How Did The Bulgars Build The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire had shrunk considerably due to earlier invasions and plundering by groups
such as Bulgars, Slavs, and Avars. The Bulgars marched on Bulgaria sometime in 670s. They
defeated the Byzantine troops in 681 forcing the Byzantine ruler to acknowledge their new nation.
Avar and Slavs changed the Balkans when they integrated with the locals and imposed their
language and religious cults. They took control of the Balkans away from Byzantine rule and
severed trade and travel between Constantinople and the settlements on the Dalmatian coast. Under
constant attacks by invaders, the already shrunken empire saw many of its towns destroyed,
obliterated or changed. The once bustling open markets, town squares, and theatres were no more.

The City Of Sparta And Athens
The city of Ancient Sparta did not have wall. Its walls were its strong warriors, young men equip
with spears and shields. This radically unique city was unparalleled compared to cities in its time
and present day. The ideals related to the equality males and females were some of the most unique
aspects of Sparta. Women had power and responsibility in their own right. Its strict militaristic
mentality was the backbone of its well run city which was unlike the city of ancient Athens. Athens
was dynamic and open to the world yet its democracy excluded people. Although good order was
important, women played the part of dutiful wife, not being seen or heard as a valuable part of
society. Sparta and Athens were radically different in its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only with Persian help in year 405 BCE was Sparta able to defeat the Athenian fleet at
Aegospotami (Cartwright). Sparta s rivalry with other city states grew as Sparta grew more
ambition in controlling central and northern Greece. The Corinthian Wars started from 396 to
387 BCE with Athens, Thebes, Corinthian, and Persia (Cartwright). In its push to destroy
Thebes, Sparta lost in the battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE and Sparta has lost its glory for good. In
195 BCE Sparta joined the Achaean Confederacy and under Roman control t sparked the
Achaean war during its efforts to leave the confederacy. But, finally in 396 CE, Sparta was
completely taken by King Alaric of Visigoth (Cartwright). According to legend, Athens began in
competition between the Greek Gods Poseidon and Athena for the honor of the city. Athena
dropped a seed on the land that quickly became an olive tree and Poseidon brought water to the
land. The tree was deemed more valuable and the city was therefore named after Athena (Mark).
The land were not at fertile as the land of Sparta so early Athens turned to land and sea trade in
order to prosper. During the Mycenaean period from 1551 to 1100 BCE, the Mycenaean people
were of the first people to occupy Attica, the land surrounding the area (Mark). The Mycenaean
people were known to be great warriors and seafaring people who influenced the land with their
unique culture as Greece slowly developed (Mark). From about

How Did Slavery Affect Roman Economy
Discussion Forum Unit 8
How did slaves affect the daily Roman economy?
Introduction:
As a sign of great wealth and power, slaves were primarily prisoners of war (POW), both
captured fighters and the women and children of conquered populations. With no reservation, it is
historically clear that slaves contributed a lot to the growth of Roman economy. As slaves formed
significant part of the labor force, they were also vita to fabric of Roman society. Slaves were
involved in the following aspects of economy: farming, mining, domestic works, white collar jobs
and others. The Daily Roman Economy:
In Rome, slavery was a major force of farming. Farming shifted to estate slavery due to influx of
slaves. Farms were initially owned and run by small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slaves working as domestic workers in private household had the chance to seek favor with their
owners and perhaps get their freedom. And they constituted the private staff of villas, town house,
and palaces.
Nevertheless, slaves were also white collar job workers who kept the machinery of bureaucracy and
administration working and in other government services such as the mint and corn supply.
They worked as accountants in private businesses, and as teachers, secretaries, librarians, doctors,
scribes, artists, and entertainers.
Slavery was fundamental to the Roman economy, perhaps more essential than any other ancient
civilization. Slavery gradually changed and expand as Rome expanded through conquest. For all of
the greatness and grandeur of Ancient Rome, the Roman economy never developed into anything
horribly intricate compared to modern economies. Ancient Rome was an agricultural and slave
based economy whose main concern was feeding the vast number of citizens and legionaries who
populated the Mediterranean region (unrv.com, n.d).

3d Printing Has A Huge Future
3D Printing
One Emerging Technology field that is soon to change the game is 3D Printing. Though 3D
Printers have been around since the 1980 s, it hasn t been widely accessible or used until now.
This is due to the advances in technology, which allow 3D Printers to be created in a smaller form
factor and used at a much cheaper price. Throughout this paper, I will further go through more
reason why I believe 3D printing has a huge future. This paper s topics are broken up into various
paragraphs, which will discuss technology specifications, business value, examples of usage,
competitive value, and my analysis and perspective of 3D Printing technology.
Technology Specifications. As stated in the previous paragraph, the earliest known 3D Printers
have been around since the 1980 s. In 1984, advances made on the inkjet concept of printing
transmuted into printing with materials. The concept is closely related to the inkjet concept but
during the early stages of 3D printing, manufactures could not produce the necessary equipment
at a cheap enough price in order for the 3D printing phenomena to lift off. If you fast forward 20
years you will see that technology has made a huge leap. This leap allowed for the necessary
advances of the 3D Printing industry that allowed for cheaper printer production cost. The
following is a brief description of how 3D Printers work. Typical 3D Printers are composed of about
5 different parts: laser source, elevator, vat, layered part, and

firm to have more opportunities of internal communication among all employees in the
organization. Manco Abbott should encourage weekly meetings between community managers and
assistants to find solutions to solve tenant s issues in accordance to social media. The firm should
strictly schedule routine meetings for representatives from different departments to discuss and
solve the most appealing issues that they are facing regarding social media. Additionally, the firm
should offer a social media training program within the organization that is designed for community
managers and assistants. This special training program should focus on solving tenant s issues via
social media in the most appropriate ways without damaging the firm s reputation. Second
recommendation, Manco Abbott should offer training and certification programs for their

Why I Decided For The Army For Three Reasons
It is dark outside and many men lay sick on the cold dirt floor of the huts. I want to return to my
family, however I must serve my country until the end. Our huts only have mud and straw for
our bedding. Space was limited in the hut, there are no windows and only one door. The huts are
16 by 14 , not enough room for the 12 men inside. Still, many of the conditions at Valley Forge
are okay for living in. The living conditions occurred to be very harsh, but they happened to be
bearable. I decided to re enlist in the army for three reasons; the army needs more soldiers, in the
end there is much pride and glory, and many leaders are helping us get through the war.
In 1773, the Boston Tea Partycommenced causing most of this drama with the British. Before
we arrived at camp we had victories in Princeton and Trenton, demonstrating that we can win this
war. Then in 1776, our Declaration of Independence had started to be written. Before I left to the
war, my home was quartered or taken over by the British. I knew that I had to leave my family
to help support them. In the year 1777 our army marched into the Valley Forge camp, home for
me and my fellow men for 9 months. We ate, slept, and trained for many days. Upon our arrival at
Valley Forge many soldiers started to desert, or in other words, they were leaving without
permission from General Washington. The war conditions were getting worse and I knew that I had
a duty to help the army.
The first reason I will re enlist in

Jean Pierre Corteggiani From The French Institute Of...
Jean Pierre Corteggiani from the French Institute of Oriental Archeology states that the Nile is
therefore life itself to Egypt. He said that the eastern part of the desert of Sahara would be nothing
without the water supplied by the Nile river. Water was life at the time of the ancient Egyptian
civilization. The source of life of this river comes from the mountains of Ethiopia, 2,000 kilometers
from the Delta. However, between the months of June to September when is storm season, the Nile
river overflows becoming a sea converting nearby cities into islands. Therefore, Egyptians tried
to keep a record of the Nile s first signs of overflow by building Nilometers to measure increases
in the water level. It took 10 years to control the annual overflowing. A thought of that time was
that gods spread blessings all over the river, since the banks of this river gave the pass to
agriculture. As new techniques were developed, so the ancient Egyptian civilization production
increased as well. Nonetheless, the Nile river became the natural route for traders. On the golden
age of ancient Egyptians, pharaohs ruled over those lands. Pharaohs were seen as a god. Touching a
pharaoh could have been punished with the death, since they were sacred. Under their commands,
gigantic pyramids were constructed. However, the logic of the edification of those pyramids and
their builders are still a mystery. All that is known is that the construction of the mausoleum
required high technical

Perinatal Mental Health Midwife
Application for Temporary perinatal health midwife
There is increasing awareness of perinatal mental health as a public health issue. The Government
is keen for midwives to further develop their role in public health. Midwives need to be adequately
prepared to take on a more developed role in perinatal mental health if practice improvements are to
be made. I am aware that death from psychiatric causes has been the leading cause of maternal
death for the last few years. Although the most recent Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child
Health indicated that this is no longer a leading cause, mental health problems before and after
childbirth have a significant impact on the health of women, family relationships and children s

I am a naturally creative person who enjoys implementing evidence based practice change at a
strategic and operational level. I am very excited about the opportunity to be potentially involved
with designing an E learning package. Whilst working with other experts in this industry I have
gained some knowledge in the process of elearning development. I think that routine antenatal and
postnatal care present an excellent opportunity to screen the mental health of pregnant women
and women with a new baby. To do this effectively however, requires working more
collaboratively across different professions to meet the needs of our patients. Having the post of a
specialist midwife in mental health could allow me to provide focused care to pregnant women
with mental illness. This could include co morbid substance alcohol misuse problems. I envisage
the role as working closely with a perinatal psychiatry team at W.M.U.H and as an important point
of liaison between the other midwives, especially safeguarding and case loading midwives,
obstetricians, health visitors, child and family social services, obstetricians in the hospital, and
mental health services. A useful means to achieve partnership working would be for the S.M.M.H
to attend the weekly midwifery team meeting. Here, all midwifery community and labour ward
teams meet to discuss the caseload and update the antenatal progress notes. This provides a valuable
opportunity for potential referrals

Research Paper On Brown Dwarfs
The life and death of a star is both interesting and complicated. The formation of a star might not
be as simple as you think. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might
also believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them
to become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several
forms including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Starformation is a rather simple
process. Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials
begin to form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core
will become hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear
fusion. This fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space.... Show

A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as
failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy.
Brown dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are
called brown because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their
core to give it a small glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of
millions of years. White dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star
runs out of hydrogen to create energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over
due to no energy pushing back. The star then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together.
The hot ball is then left in space to cool over billions of years. No known white dwarf has ever
cooled because the universe is only 13.7 billion years old and some of the first white dwarfs are
still thousands of degrees

Using Complex Numbers In Circuit Analysis
Complex Analysis:
Complex analysis, traditionally known as the theory of functions of a complex variable, is the
branch of mathematical analysis that investigates functions of complex numbers. It is useful in
many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, number theory, applied mathematics;
as well as in physics, including hydrodynamics and thermodynamics and also in engineering fields
such as nuclear, aerospace, mechanical and electrical engineering.
Murray R. Spiegel described complex analysis as one of the most beautiful as well as useful
branches of Mathematics .

Take a look at the equations in the previous section. The addition and subtraction equations do not
mix up the real and imaginary parts, but the equations for multiplication and division do.
Multiplying a complex number by a real constant also obviously does not mix up the real and
imaginary parts. Essentially, a linear equation is one that will not mix up the real and imaginary
parts of the voltages and currents. From a practical standpoint, a linear circuit is one that includes
only passive components (resistors, capacitors, and inductors) plus voltage and/or current sources.
No diodes, transistors, vacuum tubes, etc. are allowed. It is perhaps worth mentioning here that the
same formalism, with the same advantages of using complex numbers, works in mechanics when
dealing with small, harmonic oscillations of mechanical systems. voe^(j(wt)) or Io e^(j(wt)) where
the phase can be taken to be zero if there is only one source. Otherwise the relative phases of the
sources must be taken into account. Then treat each passive component as an impedance

Chris Ofili The Holy Virgin Mary
The above quotes are used to describe Chris Ofili s most controversial painting, The Holy Virgin
Mary. Artists throughout time have often pushed the boundaries of artistic expression. Some have
been criticized and questioned from viewers if what they are making is truly art. Ofili is one of the
numerous artists who have created debatable paintings and received hate in return.
One of the many individuals who were in an uproar about Ofili s painting was the mayor of New
York City, Rudolph Giuliani. When he first saw the exhibit, Sensation, which included Ofili s
painting, he saw the unusual depiction of the Virgin Maryand was instantly appalled and disgusted.

In addition to the decorated excrement, the entire painting is supported by two varnished balls of
dung. They are also decorated with tiny pins that spell out the words Virgin on one and Mary on
the other. Spectators often see the elephant dung and are instantly appalled and disgusted. At first
glance the viewers might think that droppings were splattered, or smeared, unthoughtfully over a
holy icon. However, instead of unintentionally and carelessly thrown onto the canvas, Ofili
deliberately placed the varnished dung onto the painting to represent the bare breast. The simple
nature of propping the portraiture up off the ground with two little balls of dung gives it a
feeling that [it has] come from the earth rather than simply being hung on a wall (Vogel). Even
though some viewers might think that using a normally foul item as a collage element is
blasphemous to the holy image of Mary, in the African culture it is sacred (Sooke). Ofili was
inspired to incorporate elephant dung in his art due to a safari trip in Zimbabwe. Scattered around
the Zambezian ground, Ofili took interest in the sacred African element and even brought some of
samples of it home to use in his work. He started to experiment with using the excrement in some of
his earlier paintings and had success. Ofili said that using the droppings attract a multiple of
meanings and

The True Cost Of Animal Experimentation Essay
The True Cost of Animal Experimentation Imagine being held captive in an unnatural environment,
alone and frightened, with burns and open wounds covering any and all exposed skin. On top of
this, picture living in inadequate housing, being handled improperly which leads to serious injury,
not knowing if and when the next meal is coming, and finally, not having access to proper medical
treatment when required. Unfortunately, this is not an imaginary scenario for many species of
animals worldwide today but a harsh reality. Animal experimentation is still a common practice
among medical laboratories and cosmetic industries. These animals have no choice in the matter
and, more commonly than not, are not treated properly in accordance with the standards provided
by the Animal Welfare Act. Animal experimentation results in animals being hurt physically and
emotionally, there is a lack of regulation, results found in animal trials are not always compatible
with results found in humans, and finally, it s an outdated practice as there are other viable
technological alternatives. Animal experimentation should be outlawed due to sufficient harm done
to animals, incompatible results, and alternate options being available. Animals unnecessarily suffer
physically and emotionally in animal experimentations. Supporters of experiments involving
animals argue that there are laws and committees in place at all research institutions to prevent the
abuse and wrongful treatment of the animals,

The Role Of Economic Development As Measured Through Levels
Gender inequality has been and is still a problem being faced worldwide. It has inhibited the social,
economical, and political growth of women in all different nations, especially third world
countries. There are various implications that change the level of inequality such as education,
culture, religion, democratization of countries, years of independence, and most importantly,
economic development. (Dollar Gatti, 1999). This paper is examining the role economic
development as measured through levels GDP (low, medium, high) plays in the level of gender
empowerment in a country. After reading various studies, I have concluded that when regarding
gender empowerment it is specific to the empowerment of women It is hypothesized that increased
economic development will display higher levels of gender empowerment. The following three
literature reviews will demonstrate and support the hypothesis. The first article, Gender Inequality,
Income, and Growth: Are Good Times Good for Women? by David Dollar and Roberta Gotti, is a
cumulated work that was published by The World Bank under the Development Research Group.
Dollar and Roberti addressed three specific questions that they felt were strong factors in the
implications economic development brought upon gender empowerment. The questions were
constructed in efforts to respond to the macroeconomic data revealed through its answers. The
questions are: 1. Is lower investment in girls education simply an efficient economic

Essay about The Last of the Mohicans
The Last of the Mohicans
James Fenimore Cooper s the Last of the Mohicans is a gripping novel that depicts the travel of 7
people through the dangerous woods of western New York in the late 18th century. The story takes
place during the French and Indian war at the height of conflict. Major Duncan Heyward is
accompanying singer David
Gamut and the two daughters of the English colonel Munro from Fort Edward to
Fort William Henry. Along the way, the four travelersdiscover that their Indian guide Magua has

Magua had recaptured the travelers and Hawkeye, the Mohicans, and Heyward were on their
trail. They found David in the woods who informed them that the sisters were being held at two
different posts. One, a post of the Huron s, the other of the Delaware. Using different disguises
and deception the group rescues Alice from the Huron s. At the camp of the Delaware where
Magua was holding Cora, Magua convinced the others that Hawkeye and the Mohicans were the
enemy. Hawkeye then proves that he is a chief to the sage Tamenund. At this point they had
rescued all but Cora who Magua managed to flee with. After a chase and a fight, Magua and his
Huron s were defeated but one Huron killed Cora. Uncas then killed that Huron because at that
point, he had fallen deeply in love with Cora. Magua then killed
Uncas by stabbing him in the back. Magua was then chased until he was forced to jump over a
cliff and died.
While James Cooper doesn t express his personal opinion on the history of our nation, he speaks
through his characters and discusses how the Europeans introduced alcohol to the Indians. And had
them drink until they thought they were enlightened and lost their land. Throughout the story it
becomes more and more apparent that Indians were used and abused by the French and the English.
The book makes me think that our history is full of ruthless deception. From the beginning when
the travelers were first taken the wrong

properties, is relatively easy because of its tangibility and lack of mobility.
With respect to revenue diversification, local governments have attempted to diversify their
sources of revenue by implementing one or a combination of these taxes: sales taxes, income
taxes, game of chance taxes (gambling, races, lotter, and their derivatives), user charge taxes, and
sumptuary taxes (cigarettes, alcohol, and their derivatives) (Lee, Johnson, and Joyce, 2013). In
circumstances that affect the primary source of revenue, having access to other sources may serve
as a buffer for the local government. However, the problems with these sorts of taxes is
uncertainty. Property tax, as stated earlier is the most reliable while income or sales taxes rely on
income/ salaried employees and consumption of products, respectively.
2.Explain the major forecasting methods used by governments to forecast revenues and
expenditures. Explain Florida s experience with the consensus forecasting process. Discuss which
methods are more likely to be used and for what revenue

The Deregulation Of Generation Facilities Essay
INTRODUCTION . Centralization of generation facilities give way to smaller, more distributed
generation partially due to loss of traditional economies of scale.Penetration of distributed
generation across U.S has not yet reached significant levels. However that situation is changing
rapidly, requires attention to issues related to high penetration of distributed generation within the
distribution system.Distributed generation encompasses wide range of prime mover technologies,
such as IC engines, gas turbines, microturbines, photovoltaic, F.C(fuel cell), wind power. Most
emerging technologies such as micro turbines, photovoltaic, F.C s, gas internal combustion engines
with permanent magnet generator require an inverter to interface with electrical distribution
system, These emerging technologies have lower emissions, potential to have lower cost negating
traditional economies of scale. All applications include power support at substations, deferral of T
D upgrades, onsite generating. Indiscriminant application of individual distributed generators can
cause as many problems as it may solve. better way to realize emerging potential of distributed
generation is to take system approach which views generation, associated loads as subsystem or
microgrid . This approach allows for local control of distributed generation thereby reducing or
eliminating need for central dispatch. During disturbances, generation, corresponding loads can
separate from distribution system to isolate

Roman Catholic Contemporary Culture
Roman Catholic Theology and Contemporary Culture
Christy James
Grand Canyon University: HTH 469

Similar to that of the rise of classical liberal theology and Protestantism, the Roman Catholic
Church experienced a change in theological thought. Modernism led to increased biblical
criticism and called for Catholic theologies to adapt to the surrounding modern world. Just like
those who opposed liberalism, this new way of thinking was also faced with many within the
church who opposed it. In 1959 however, John XXIII was elected as the new pope who would set
out to bring the church up to speed with the modern world. The result was the formation of the
Second Vatican Council also commonly referred to as the Vatican II. Theologians Karl Rahner and
Hans KГјng s attendance to the council had a major impact because their ideas helped to advance a
Catholic theology which focused on bridging the gap between the church and contemporary culture.
Vatican II met at the Vatican City in Rome from 1962 to 1965. It was formed in order to discuss
different theological controversies that continued to confront the Church. Prior to this meeting the
church was experiencing the integralism movement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
KГјng focused much of his theories on apologetics. For Kung, true Christian apologetics must take
seriously the secularism and atheism of modern Western culture and attempt to communication

area of weakness for KГјng however is his Christology. In his book, On Being a Christian, he goes

Material And The Design Of Football Helmets Essay
Material Use in the Design of Football Helmets: Importance of helmets in concussion Prevention
By: Luc E. Desroches 5/7/15 Introduction American football has been around for over one
hundred years, and along with the sport has been the need to provide proper safety for the players.
An assortment of padding has been instituted in the game that protects against most blunt trauma
including blows to the shoulders, mid section, and legs. In an attempt to prevent fracture of the
skull, helmets were designed. However, studies have shown that helmets do little to nothing to
prevent concussive damage to the brain. A polycarbonate shell is used as the outer housing for
regulation football helmets, but along with this material, the materials used on the inside of the
helmet are just as, if not more, important. The purpose of this report is to analyze the materials
used in current football helmet design and the improvements being made in the field of materials
science in order to combat the severe number of concussions suffered by NFL players.
Concussions There is a large amount of ambiguity when diagnosing concussions. Since there is no
definitive test that can be run on the brain while a person is alive to determine if they have
suffered a concussion, recording an accurate number of concussions is difficult in the NFL or any
sport for that matter. A concussion, in the simplest terms, is a jarring of the brain that is caused by
a blow to the head or body. Traditional thinking led

Summary Of Angela Liddel
Angela Liddel stares forlornly out of the window in the limousine. Movies and novels often
romanticize boarding school, but the concept is daunting to the sixteen year old. The Atlantic
Ocean is rather unimpressive; nothing like she d expected, and so far feels general
disappointment amid arriving at Madame LeFoux s Academy for Exemplary Young Ladies.
Angela wasn t certain what she was expecting, but this certainly wasn t it. She treks up the steps
to the large mansion, uncertain of what would come next. Angela takes a deep breath, and
sounds the large lion head knocker, and the door swings open. Hello? Angela calls out, but there
is no response. She decides to search for the headmistress s office so that she might become
more acquainted with the building. As she turns a corner she collides with a petite woman.
Pardon me, darling. She says, picking up her pocketbook from the ground. As she returns to
standing, she sees Angela clasping on to her suitcase for dear life. This must be the new student,
Miss Liddel. The woman murmurs to herself. Her chestnut brown eyes smile fondly down at the
student. Yes, it s Angela Liddel. The girl says uncertainly, Who might you be? Pleased to make
acquaintances Miss Liddel, darling, I am Headmistress Ariadne LeFoux, but you may simply
call me Madame. I am the headmistress. If you d like to follow me, let s begin by giving you a
tour of these grounds. The woman s grin is startling, as she doesn t seem the type to smile very
often. The headmistress leads Angela to the dining hall, and as they approach the room, Madame
pauses before throwing the double doors open. The dining hall is vast, with long wooden benches
and identical long tables fill the room. It s a grand room, and ornate in style. What sort of classes
are available? Angela asks, even more disappointed. This school intends to teach stuffy rich girls
how to embroider and keep house. A highly unusual education is in store for you, Miss Liddel,
darling. We specialize in more... investigative skills and covert operations. Madame LeFoux replies,
eying Angela s reaction cautiously. Pardon, Madame. I don t understand... This is spy school?
Angela asks, utterly dumbfounded, I thought that your

Essay about Salmonella enterica typhi
Salmonella enterica typhi
Introduction:
Worldwide, typhoid fever affects roughly 17 million people annually, causing nearly 600,000
deaths. The causative agent, Salmonella enterica typhi (referred to as Salmonella typhi from now
on), is an obligate parasite that has no known natural reservoir outside of humans. Little is known
about the historical emergence of human S. typhi infections, however it is thought to have caused
the deaths of many famous figures such as British author and poet Rudyard Kipling, the inventor
of the airplane, Wilbur Wright, and the Greek Empire s Alexander the Great. The earliest recorded

It also produces no gas when grown in TSI media, which is used to differentiate it from other

Typhoid/ Enteric Fever:
Infection of S. typhi leads to the development of typhoid, or enteric fever. This disease is
characterized by the sudden onset of a sustained and systemic fever, severe headache, nausea, and
loss of appetite. Other symptoms include constipation or diarrhea, enlargement of the spleen,
possible development of meningitis, and/or general malaise. Untreated typhoid fever cases result in
mortality rates ranging from 12 30% while treated cases allow for 99% survival.
Virulence Factors:
S. typhi has a combination of characteristics that make it an effective pathogen. This species
contains an endotoxin typical of Gram negative organisms, as well as the Vi antigen which is
thought to increase virulence. It also produces and excretes a protein known as invasin that allows
non phagocytic cells to take up the bacterium, where it is able to live intracellularly. It is also able
to inhibit the oxidative burst of leukocytes, making innate immune response ineffective.
Epidemiology:
The encounter of humans to S. typhi is made via fecal oral route from infected individuals to
healthy ones. Poor hygiene of patients shedding the organism can lead to secondary infection, as
well as consumption of shellfish from polluted bodies

Coming To America Passage Analysis
Welcoming. Belonging. Sense of Purpose. Everyone wants that. Without it we feel naked,
incomplete. Ultimately, it is what mankind really strives for. While food, water, and shelter are
important, there is no purpose to life without that sense of belonging. Kao and her family never
really felt belonged anywhere, and they struggled to feel a sense of purpose in their home .
My favorite passage in the book, is when Kao is telling her story of her adjustment of coming to
America. This passage is part of the third section of the book, The American Years. In the section,
Kao and her family had just arrived in their new tiny home in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While they
had training of what to expect from America, it did not prepare them well enough for what was to

In the passage, Kao says, For the first year and a half, we wanted to be invisible (112). This is
my favorite passage because it is really jaw dropping to see that after all Kao and her family had
been through they wanted to stay invisible in America for the first year and a half that they were
afraid of being who they are, Hmong. Back in their old home they were accustomed to frequent
bombings, disease, malnourishment, and so much physical pain. But here, their biggest fear
being in the US is the hatred and racism that is targeted on them. Day after day it s a struggle for
Kao s family. For many immigrants, America has always been projected as the Golden Gate . A
place where one would no longer struggle for their family and if you worked hard enough one can
accomplish anything. Malnourishment, clean air, and safety would no longer keep you up at
night. And at the start of Kao s American journey, it was hard to see if any positive opportunity
would arise. But it would, as they didn t let the hard work or racism get to them. Kao s parents

Religion and the Development of the Western World
Religion and the Development of the Western World
The accomplishments and success of civilizations are closely linked to their religious outlook and
the role of religion in their governments and society. Throughout history rulers have used the
influence of religions to control their populations and provide the justification for their power. A
society with a greater degree of separation between religion and government promotes a superior
level of liberty and creativity amongst its people. By the time of the decline of the Roman Empire in
the west, however, the world had come full circle to a return to theocratic dictatorship. In the
ancient civilization of the Sumerians religion was an important part of both the lives of the ... Show

By the time of the republic it had developed into an honorific system of ancestor worship that
focused on family and the importance of that unit as a model for the republic. The Roman
religion came to mirror that of the Greeks, as did so much of their society. Their government
maintained a control over religion throughout, however, using laws to promote the worship of
some and condemn the worship of other gods. Indeed, after the crises of the late republic one of
Augustus actions was to promote a return to the traditional family and religious values by
building temples and supporting religious schools. He outlawed new, foreign religions and after
his death he was worshiped as a god. This was the beginning of the turn back towards religious
autocracy. The emperors became quasi religious figures in life and were objects of popular cult
worship after their deaths. This is a rejection of the Hellenic ideal of the greatness of the
common man. It promotes the will of a single idealized super elite to the detriment of the
populace. By the decline of the western empire the emperors ruled by decree, sending their
infallible word down from on high to the masses. The free debate of ideas was dead. This became
the religious model propagated in the Byzantine Empire. There all semblance of separation between
the state and religion was eliminated. The emperor made his decrees on matters of politics and law
as well as matters of faith and theology. Christianity was

Poppy Flower In The Great Gatsby
The delicate beauty of a flower has been recognized by every generation, starting at even the
beginning of time and prevailing during even the grimmest of situations. In 1920, two years after
the end of WWI, a now hailed woman by the name of Moina Michael began a tradition that
would last for years to come. She, like so many others, had been deeply affected by the war and,
inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, proposed presenting the poppyfloweras a symbol of
remembrance of those who had given their lives to the war. This small proposal led to the poppy
flower being worn every Armistice day. It became a tribute to those who were strong enough to
fight and die for their country, and those who fought to right the flaws and weaknesses of... Show

Wilson is one of the smallest yet most important people in all of The Great Gatsby. He is
claimed by his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely one of the reasons
she leaves him in the dust behind her (137). This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a
weakness of living almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful,
silver dog collar. After finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a
lover. Due to this realization, he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that
he had more strength than she had anticipated. However, he does not have the emotional strength
to follow through with it, and in a fit of hysteria, Myrtle runs into the road and is instantly killed
after being run over by a car. He was so fearful of her that he did not stop her, and so ignorant that
he did not realize his situation until death came knocking at his door. As it is gracefully put by
Tom, He s so dumb he doesn t know he s alive (26). After Myrtle s death, something changes
inside of him, something snaps, and it is best explained through the words of one of Wilson s
neighbors, Michaelis: He was his wife s man, not his own (137). After placing so much into
Myrtle and allowing himself to be completely taken over by her, her death caused him to lose a
sense of identity

Simple Tweaks to reduce bounce rate by 50%
A website s rank is dependent on many factors. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is done in

Pros And Cons Of Youth Sports
Youth Sports: Are They Good or Bad?
Each year in the United States, more than 36 million school aged children participate in an
organized sport ( Youth Sports Statistics ). Especially over the past few years, many studies have
proved or disproved the idea that sports are beneficial for young kids. Those studies have found
that youth sports have both positive and negative effects on young children, and research shows
parents and coaches have the greatest effect on a child s experience.
Pros of Youth Sports Positive Physical Effects. The most tangible effects on children who play
sports is the effects on children s bodies. According to the author of the book ReSYNC Your
Life, Samir Becic, kids are not as injury prone when involved in athletics because sports help to
boost a child s skeletal and muscular system ( Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports ). Not only does a
healthy, uninjured child feel better, parents also save money by not having to go to the
Emergency Room as often. In Becic s eyes, fighting obesity by keeping kids moving is another
positive influence of sports ( Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports ). Obesity is an ever growing
problem in our society, and obesity leads to multiple different health issues including heart
problems. Becic explains that playing sports as a child promotes a healthy heart, which ultimately
suppresses the chance of heart disease ( Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports ). These studies show
that by participating in athletics as a child, that child is likely to see their physical health improve.
Positive Psychological Effects. Along with a child s physical health, research shows that a child s
psychological well being will improve through sports as well. An article on Health Fitness
Revolution mentions that playing sports heightens the athlete s morale through the different ways
the athlete helps their team ( Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports ). More specifically, an article on
Psychology Today says that a girl who participates in sports generally has a more positive view of
her body, even if she doesn t conform to society s very rigid standards of female beauty (Lindholm).
When children feel confident about themselves, they ultimately feel the same about their whole life
as well.

The Ethics Of An Incomplete Attempt
An incomplete attempt is where the attempter had planted a bomb but is detained before he could
set the bomb off. There have been many arguments put back and forth to punish incomplete
attempts as you would if you had completed the attempt. Treating incomplete more leniently was
first brought to our attention by Sir Blackstone (Ashworth, A 1988) whom stated that the affirmed
punishment must only be in accordance with the actions that have been committed (Jacqueline M,
2013). Further arguing that incomplete should have greater leniency than complete attempts is due
the attempter s chance of voluntary abandonment. The attempter may change his mind voluntarily
and not gone through with the unlawful act. From my personal perspective, I feel it would be
legally and morally justified for the attempter to occur the same punishment as that of the
completed offender because even if they voluntarily had not gone through with the unlawful act
they had the mere preparation in place. Although mere preparation cannot be used, you would
consider other factors and implications like the level of intent the defendant had. It is important to
remember the punishment of an attempt is at the judge s discretion. Therefore if the offence is the
offender s first attempt, the judge may be more lenient to let them off with a less punishment,
despite them having all the intention required to commit the crime. Attempts to Commit the
Impossible Under the Criminal Attempts Act S.1 (2) 1981 it states

Essay About Jiao Zi
When people talk about Chinese food culture, I have to mention the traditional Chinese food Jiao
Zi. After Zhang Zhongjing create cold dispelling dumpling soup , it passed to Mongolia in Song

Why dumplings called Jiao Zi? In ancient times, people divided one day into twelve periods to

Supernatural Elements Of The Supernatural
Transformation scares readers by possibly using some of the following: the supernatural, the
unknown and death. People may be scared of clowns or the dark. A scene can be bright and happy
then go to something dark and scary. This relates to the topic because someone can go from alive
to dead, which could be a supernaturalelement. Also because change will create fearfor the reader.
Here s a quote that may give an easier understanding She remembered who she was and the game
changed. (Lalah Deliah). This can be used to relate because someone will be scared, but then it
will kick in that it s not real. A form of transformation is the element of the supernatural. Ghosts
for example. We read the story House Taken Over it states in the story The sound came through
muted and indistinct, a chair being knocked over onto the carpet or the muffled buzzing
conversation. (Cotazar pg39). This shows how a character may have been doing something
then suddenly here s something then or scared or startled. Another example would be
possession. In the movie The Exorcist made in 1973 A girl was possessed. During the movie it
says I have dreams of a rose and falling down a long flight of steps (William the exorcist ).
Thinking of roses then suddenly falling down a flight of stairs? The shows a different type of
fear. Lastly moving objects. In the movie Paranormal Activity a lot of this happens. Something
goes from one side of the room to the other. You re unsure why or how this kind of thing could
happen. That isn t something you see on a daily basis so it causes you to be scared.
Another way transformation can be shown in the story is by the unknown. In the story Where is
There a stranger is outside, and the family is unsure why. It says here So in the chill, damp,
dampening dusk the stranger wandered around the property while the mother set the dining room

Hatred And Anger In Homer s Like The House
This scene not only serves to illustrate why hatred and anger are not able to be acted out, but
also serves to indicate the moment when Homer begins to engage with the fantasy. However,
while Faye and Harry s emotions are like many of the characters often a performance, prior to
their meetings, Homer s weren t, which is what makes him both atypical and more dangerous
than the other characters in the novel. Once Faye s father dies and she moves into Homer s
home, Homer becomes fully engaged with the performance. Ironically, while Homer was sent to
California so that he could get better, being drawn into this performance with face puts him on the
path to become one of the people that go to Hollywood to die. Homer becomes an actor in Faye s...

Similar to the argument that Faye has with her father, the moment one person is unable to keep
up the fantasy, no one is able to successfully participate, which more often than not, leads the
participants to want to destroy what has deprived them of their escape. Faye, in this case, is the
person who refuses to fully participate in the fantasy because [s]he became bored with the life
they were leading together and as her boredom deepened, she began to persecute him (111). The
issue here seems to be the fact that there is still an authenticity to Homer s actions and emotions,
whereas Faye is incapable of feeling the same type of tenderness, or being candidly generous the
way Homer can. As a result, she found his servility was like that of a cringing, clumsy dog, who
is always anticipating a blow, welcoming it even, and in a way that makes overwhelming the
desire to strike him (111). The anger that Faye feels leads her to be both verbally and physically
abuse to Homer. While they are at dinner with Tod, Faye physically forces Homer to drink a
cocktail by pouring the liquor into his mouth and holding her hand over his lips so that he
couldn t spit it back. Some of it came out of his nose, even though Homer has told her before that
drinking makes him feel sick (112). Once he realizes that drinking may be the only thing that
will appease Faye, Homer takes the next drink but this time he took it and drank it himself
fighting the stuff down (113). He begins to act as though he enjoys it and does his best to laugh
with [Faye] as the night goes on (114). But, it is too late. Faye is no longer fully participating in
the fantasy with Homer, and when Tod witnesses the violence and malice that Faye is capable of,
he forces Homer to confront reality as

Essay about Prohibition vs War on Drugs
The United States of America В€s war on drugs today is very similar to America В€s
Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920 В€s. These two major issues of their time may not seem like
they can be logically compared, but statistics for usage and a correlating rise in crime for both
eras show a strong relationship. There is also a tendency for an outright defiance of the laws and
law makers of the United States government in both cases. Most people today think that the
prohibition of the 1920 В€s and the current war on drugs have many contrasting points. The
opposite is true. However, the points that do contrast are more opinion based than fact oriented.
The following paragraphs will attempt to clearly and effectively show a comparison and ... Show

A change was clearly needed and the government responded by redefining the Volstead Act. The
redefinition made any drink containing more than 3.2% alcohol illegal. Wine, because of its lower
alcohol content, became very popular and sales soared. Then on December 5th,
1933, thirty three states ratified the 21st Amendment to the Constitution which repealed the 18th
Amendment. Drinking, and the sale of alcohol were once again legal in the United States.
A summary of the war the United States is waging on drugs is necessary before any comparison
and contrast position can be made with the Prohibition Era.
In the past several decades, millions of people in America have become involved in illegal drugs,
either through usage or through the importation, manufacture, sale and distribution of these illegal
substances. According to United States Justice Department statistics, of the millions of Americans
who use illegal drugs today, 2.7 million of these people are hard core drug abusers. The hard core
drugs that enjoy the most popularity are crack, cocaine and heroin all of which are highly addictive.
Addiction increases consumption and consumption increases the necessity to provide the drugs. It
is an illegal example of a supply and demand scenario.
While drugs attract users in all economic levels, it appears to be especially prevalent among those
living in poverty. One possible explanation is that at the poverty level there is little

However, ironically, the celebrity identities that captivate fans are usually a carefully staged
illusion (Nicol, 2006, p. 67). Celebrities may appear magical or superhuman (Rojek, 2001, p. 13),
but that is often because they are cultural fabrications (Rojek, 2001, p. 10). This can be thanks to
the celebritys management and public relations team, but it is chiefly credited to the media, who
can build up a celebrities image or tear it down. Following Lennon s death, the media universally

absolves the rest of us from recognizing unreasonable, possessive tendencies with respect to stars in

Behavior Modification Essay example
Behavior Modification Behavior Modification, a psychological theory of human behavior. It
evolved from the application of experimentally derived principles of learning to the modification of
problem behaviors. The theory is based on a psychological model of human behavior that rejects the
psychoanalytic or quasi disease model of mental illness. Approaches to behavior modification
assume that abnormal behavior is acquired and maintained in the same manner as normal behavior
and can be changed directly through the application of social learning principles. Assessment
procedures focus on describing how an individual behaves, thinks, and feels in specific situations.

This procedure, used to alleviate anxiety in adult patients, became one of the best known and most
widely used behavior modification techniques. Another key development in the evolution of
behavior modification was the work of Hans Eysenck and his colleagues in England in the 1950s.
Eysenck defined behavior modification as the application of modern learning theory to the
treatment of behavioral and emotional problems. He held that, in contrast to traditional
psychoanalytic procedures, the efficacy of behavior modification procedures could be verified
through experiments. The third major development in the evolution of behavior modification was
the publication in 1953 of B. F. Skinner s Science and Human Behavior. This work heralded a
philosophical shift from the search for inner causes of behavior to an emphasis on the
measurement and modification of observable behavior. A fundamental tenet of Skinner s radical
behaviorism is that the probability of a behavior is related directly to the nature of the
environmental consequences that follow performance of that behavior. From this basic tenet he
derived a set of procedures for modifying behavior by a method called operant conditioning.
Specifically, behavior is strengthened, or increased in frequency, when followed by either a
positive consequence (positive reinforcement) or removal of a negative consequence (negative
reinforcement). Behavior is weakened, or decreased

Boccaccio s Use Of Allegory And Satire In The Decameron
The Decameron is a book whose conclusions are shrouded in complexity. As a result, the stories
and overall structure of the book provide scholars plentiful amounts of literary material to analyze.
The book s broad moral structure based mainly on natural will allows Boccaccio to approach
multiple topics, including restraint, desire, sex, misogyny, deceit, social structure, religion, and
death, without becoming constrained by any one topic. Additionally, the individual stories in The
Decameron offer multiple meanings to further expand the interpretive potential of the book. The
tenth story of day ten (10.10), told by Dioneo, exemplifies Boccaccio s usage of allegory and satire
to provide a multilayered critique of social norms in medieval society.... Show more content on

Williams focuses on Dioneo s last story because she thinks it represents a capitulation to
medieval misogyny and interests. Even with many good ideas and connections, in my opinion,
she misconstrues the ultimate significance of the Griselda story by neglecting Dioneo s
reflection at the end of the tale. Williams focuses on how this story is meant to return the brigata
to the medieval expectations of which they are about to face again. According to Williams, the
final story shows how Dioneo relinquishes all claim to being considered an advocate for social
change and instead simply returns to acting as the primary voice of the author, Giovanni
Boccaccio. Central to this claim is Williams belief that the story returns the brigata to the existing
gender roles of medieval society. However, after reading Petrarch s thorough reworking of the
Griselda story to fit a more moralistic stance, Boccaccio s extreme Griselda story is a satirical
criticism of existing gender roles in The Decameron. Ending with his reflection, Dioneo states that
Gualtieri should have married a woman that would have found another man to warm her wool.
Showing the power of the final reflection, Petrarch completely omits it from his Griselda story,
similarly to how he does not include the introductory statements by

Human Activities And Its Effect On The Environment
As humans, it is important that we understand what our built environment is. The built environment
is human activities and their interactions to the environment that are shaped by our social economic
activities. Furthermore, it is also imperative to know what pollutants are, pollutants are any gas,
liquid or solid substance that have been emitted into the atmosphere and are in high enough
concentrations to be considered harmful to the environment, or human, animal and plant health
(B.C. Air Quality , 2013). The concepts of spatiality, temporality, organizational structure, and
health effects and outcomes all relate to one another in a sense that they are scales or levels that
can correlate with one another to create cause and effects to the environment. Scale can be defined
as the spatial, temporal, quantitative, or analytical dimensions used to measure and study any
phenomenon, and levels as the units of analysis that are located at different positions on a scale
(Cash, 2006). Similar to spatial scale that can be thought of as divisible into different levels,
temporal scale can be thought of as divisible into different time frames related to rates, durations, or
frequencies (Cash, 2006). Studies have found that exposure to pollutants such as nitrogen dioxides
(NO2), sulfur dioxides (SO2), ozone, and particulate matter (PM) has been associated with
increased mortality and hospital admissions due to health outcomes such as respiratory and
cardiovascular

  • 2. How Did The Bulgars Build The Byzantine Empire The Byzantine Empire had shrunk considerably due to earlier invasions and plundering by groups such as Bulgars, Slavs, and Avars. The Bulgars marched on Bulgaria sometime in 670s. They defeated the Byzantine troops in 681 forcing the Byzantine ruler to acknowledge their new nation. Avar and Slavs changed the Balkans when they integrated with the locals and imposed their language and religious cults. They took control of the Balkans away from Byzantine rule and severed trade and travel between Constantinople and the settlements on the Dalmatian coast. Under constant attacks by invaders, the already shrunken empire saw many of its towns destroyed, obliterated or changed. The once bustling open markets, town squares, and theatres were no more. ... This radically unique city was unparalleled compared to cities in its time and present day. The ideals related to the equality males and females were some of the most unique aspects of Sparta. Women had power and responsibility in their own right. Its strict militaristic mentality was the backbone of its well run city which was unlike the city of ancient Athens. Athens was dynamic and open to the world yet its democracy excluded people. Although good order was important, women played the part of dutiful wife, not being seen or heard as a valuable part of society. Sparta and Athens were radically different in its... Sparta s rivalry with other city states grew as Sparta grew more ambition in controlling central and northern Greece. The Corinthian Wars started from 396 to 387 BCE with Athens, Thebes, Corinthian, and Persia (Cartwright). In its push to destroy Thebes, Sparta lost in the battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE and Sparta has lost its glory for good. In 195 BCE Sparta joined the Achaean Confederacy and under Roman control t sparked the Achaean war during its efforts to leave the confederacy. But, finally in 396 CE, Sparta was completely taken by King Alaric of Visigoth (Cartwright). According to legend, Athens began in competition between the Greek Gods Poseidon and Athena for the honor of the city. Athena dropped a seed on the land that quickly became an olive tree and Poseidon brought water to the land. The tree was deemed more valuable and the city was therefore named after Athena (Mark). The land were not at fertile as the land of Sparta so early Athens turned to land and sea trade in order to prosper. During the Mycenaean period from 1551 to 1100 BCE, the Mycenaean people were of the first people to occupy Attica, the land surrounding the area (Mark). • 4. How Did Slavery Affect Roman Economy Discussion Forum Unit 8 How did slaves affect the daily Roman economy? Introduction: As a sign of great wealth and power, slaves were primarily prisoners of war (POW), both captured fighters and the women and children of conquered populations. With no reservation, it is historically clear that slaves contributed a lot to the growth of Roman economy. As slaves formed significant part of the labor force, they were also vita to fabric of Roman society. Slaves were involved in the following aspects of economy: farming, mining, domestic works, white collar jobs and others. The Daily Roman Economy: In Rome, slavery was a major force of farming. Farming shifted to estate slavery due to influx of slaves. Farms were initially owned and run by small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slaves working as domestic workers in private household had the chance to seek favor with their owners and perhaps get their freedom. And they constituted the private staff of villas, town house, and palaces. Nevertheless, slaves were also white collar job workers who kept the machinery of bureaucracy and administration working and in other government services such as the mint and corn supply. They worked as accountants in private businesses, and as teachers, secretaries, librarians, doctors, scribes, artists, and entertainers. Slavery was fundamental to the Roman economy, perhaps more essential than any other ancient civilization. Slavery gradually changed and expand as Rome expanded through conquest. For all of the greatness and grandeur of Ancient Rome, the Roman economy never developed into anything horribly intricate compared to modern economies. Ancient Rome was an agricultural and slave based economy whose main concern was feeding the vast number of citizens and legionaries who populated the Mediterranean region (unrv.com, n.d). • 5. 3d Printing Has A Huge Future 3D Printing One Emerging Technology field that is soon to change the game is 3D Printing. Though 3D Printers have been around since the 1980 s, it hasn t been widely accessible or used until now. This is due to the advances in technology, which allow 3D Printers to be created in a smaller form factor and used at a much cheaper price. Throughout this paper, I will further go through more reason why I believe 3D printing has a huge future. This paper s topics are broken up into various paragraphs, which will discuss technology specifications, business value, examples of usage, competitive value, and my analysis and perspective of 3D Printing technology. Technology Specifications. As stated in the previous paragraph, the earliest known 3D Printers have been around since the 1980 s. In 1984, advances made on the inkjet concept of printing transmuted into printing with materials. The concept is closely related to the inkjet concept but during the early stages of 3D printing, manufactures could not produce the necessary equipment at a cheap enough price in order for the 3D printing phenomena to lift off. If you fast forward 20 years you will see that technology has made a huge leap. This leap allowed for the necessary advances of the 3D Printing industry that allowed for cheaper printer production cost. The following is a brief description of how 3D Printers work. Typical 3D Printers are composed of about 5 different parts: laser source, elevator, vat, layered part, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Why I Decided For The Army For Three Reasons It is dark outside and many men lay sick on the cold dirt floor of the huts. I want to return to my family, however I must serve my country until the end. Our huts only have mud and straw for our bedding. Space was limited in the hut, there are no windows and only one door. The huts are 16 by 14 , not enough room for the 12 men inside. Still, many of the conditions at Valley Forge are okay for living in. The living conditions occurred to be very harsh, but they happened to be bearable. I decided to re enlist in the army for three reasons; the army needs more soldiers, in the end there is much pride and glory, and many leaders are helping us get through the war. In 1773, the Boston Tea Partycommenced causing most of this drama with the British. Before we arrived at camp we had victories in Princeton and Trenton, demonstrating that we can win this war. Then in 1776, our Declaration of Independence had started to be written. Before I left to the war, my home was quartered or taken over by the British. I knew that I had to leave my family to help support them. In the year 1777 our army marched into the Valley Forge camp, home for me and my fellow men for 9 months. We ate, slept, and trained for many days. Upon our arrival at Valley Forge many soldiers started to desert, or in other words, they were leaving without permission from General Washington. The war conditions were getting worse and I knew that I had a duty to help the army. The first reason I will re enlist in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Jean Pierre Corteggiani From The French Institute Of... Jean Pierre Corteggiani from the French Institute of Oriental Archeology states that the Nile is therefore life itself to Egypt. He said that the eastern part of the desert of Sahara would be nothing without the water supplied by the Nile river. Water was life at the time of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The source of life of this river comes from the mountains of Ethiopia, 2,000 kilometers from the Delta. However, between the months of June to September when is storm season, the Nile river overflows becoming a sea converting nearby cities into islands. Therefore, Egyptians tried to keep a record of the Nile s first signs of overflow by building Nilometers to measure increases in the water level. It took 10 years to control the annual overflowing. A thought of that time was that gods spread blessings all over the river, since the banks of this river gave the pass to agriculture. As new techniques were developed, so the ancient Egyptian civilization production increased as well. Nonetheless, the Nile river became the natural route for traders. On the golden age of ancient Egyptians, pharaohs ruled over those lands. Pharaohs were seen as a god. Touching a pharaoh could have been punished with the death, since they were sacred. Under their commands, gigantic pyramids were constructed. However, the logic of the edification of those pyramids and their builders are still a mystery. All that is known is that the construction of the mausoleum required high technical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Government is keen for midwives to further develop their role in public health. Midwives need to be adequately prepared to take on a more developed role in perinatal mental health if practice improvements are to be made. I am aware that death from psychiatric causes has been the leading cause of maternal death for the last few years. I think that routine antenatal and postnatal care present an excellent opportunity to screen the mental health of pregnant women and women with a new baby. To do this effectively however, requires working more collaboratively across different professions to meet the needs of our patients. Having the post of a specialist midwife in mental health could allow me to provide focused care to pregnant women with mental illness. This could include co morbid substance alcohol misuse problems. • 10. Research Paper On Brown Dwarfs The life and death of a star is both interesting and complicated. The formation of a star might not be as simple as you think. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might also believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them to become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several forms including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Starformation is a rather simple process. Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials begin to form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core will become hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear fusion. This fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy. Brown dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are called brown because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their core to give it a small glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of millions of years. White dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star runs out of hydrogen to create energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over due to no energy pushing back. The star then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together. The hot ball is then left in space to cool over billions of years. No known white dwarf has ever cooled because the universe is only 13.7 billion years old and some of the first white dwarfs are still thousands of degrees ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using Complex Numbers In Circuit Analysis Complex Analysis: Complex analysis, traditionally known as the theory of functions of a complex variable, is the branch of mathematical analysis that investigates functions of complex numbers. It is useful in many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, number theory, applied mathematics; as well as in physics, including hydrodynamics and thermodynamics and also in engineering fields such as nuclear, aerospace, mechanical and electrical engineering. Murray R. Spiegel described complex analysis as one of the most beautiful as well as useful branches of Mathematics . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take a look at the equations in the previous section. The addition and subtraction equations do not mix up the real and imaginary parts, but the equations for multiplication and division do. Multiplying a complex number by a real constant also obviously does not mix up the real and imaginary parts. Essentially, a linear equation is one that will not mix up the real and imaginary parts of the voltages and currents. From a practical standpoint, a linear circuit is one that includes only passive components (resistors, capacitors, and inductors) plus voltage and/or current sources. No diodes, transistors, vacuum tubes, etc. are allowed. It is perhaps worth mentioning here that the same formalism, with the same advantages of using complex numbers, works in mechanics when dealing with small, harmonic oscillations of mechanical systems. voe^(j(wt)) or Io e^(j(wt)) where the phase can be taken to be zero if there is only one source. Otherwise the relative phases of the sources must be taken into account. Then treat each passive component as an impedance Resistor: Z = R Capacitor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Artists throughout time have often pushed the boundaries of artistic expression. Some have been criticized and questioned from viewers if what they are making is truly art. Ofili is one of the numerous artists who have created debatable paintings and received hate in return. One of the many individuals who were in an uproar about Ofili s painting was the mayor of New York City, Rudolph Giuliani. In addition to the decorated excrement, the entire painting is supported by two varnished balls of dung. They are also decorated with tiny pins that spell out the words Virgin on one and Mary on the other. Spectators often see the elephant dung and are instantly appalled and disgusted. At first glance the viewers might think that droppings were splattered, or smeared, unthoughtfully over a holy icon. However, instead of unintentionally and carelessly thrown onto the canvas, Ofili deliberately placed the varnished dung onto the painting to represent the bare breast. The simple nature of propping the portraiture up off the ground with two little balls of dung gives it a feeling that [it has] come from the earth rather than simply being hung on a wall (Vogel). Even though some viewers might think that using a normally foul item as a collage element is blasphemous to the holy image of Mary, in the African culture it is sacred (Sooke). Ofili was inspired to incorporate elephant dung in his art due to a safari trip in Zimbabwe. Scattered around the Zambezian ground, Ofili took interest in the sacred African element and even brought some of samples of it home to use in his work. He started to experiment with using the excrement in some of his earlier paintings and had success. Ofili said that using the droppings attract a multiple of meanings and ... The True Cost Of Animal Experimentation Essay The True Cost of Animal Experimentation Imagine being held captive in an unnatural environment, alone and frightened, with burns and open wounds covering any and all exposed skin. On top of this, picture living in inadequate housing, being handled improperly which leads to serious injury, not knowing if and when the next meal is coming, and finally, not having access to proper medical treatment when required. Unfortunately, this is not an imaginary scenario for many species of animals worldwide today but a harsh reality. Animal experimentation is still a common practice among medical laboratories and cosmetic industries. These animals have no choice in the matter and, more commonly than not, are not treated properly in accordance with the standards provided by the Animal Welfare Act. Animal experimentation results in animals being hurt physically and emotionally, there is a lack of regulation, results found in animal trials are not always compatible with results found in humans, and finally, it s an outdated practice as there are other viable technological alternatives. Animal experimentation should be outlawed due to sufficient harm done to animals, incompatible results, and alternate options being available. Animals unnecessarily suffer physically and emotionally in animal experimentations. Supporters of experiments involving animals argue that there are laws and committees in place at all research institutions to prevent the abuse and wrongful treatment of the animals, ... It has inhibited the social, economical, and political growth of women in all different nations, especially third world countries. There are various implications that change the level of inequality such as education, culture, religion, democratization of countries, years of independence, and most importantly, economic development. (Dollar Gatti, 1999). This paper is examining the role economic development as measured through levels GDP (low, medium, high) plays in the level of gender empowerment in a country. After reading various studies, I have concluded that when regarding gender empowerment it is specific to the empowerment of women It is hypothesized that increased economic development will display higher levels of gender empowerment. The following three literature reviews will demonstrate and support the hypothesis. The first article, Gender Inequality, Income, and Growth: Are Good Times Good for Women? by David Dollar and Roberta Gotti, is a cumulated work that was published by The World Bank under the Development Research Group. With respect to revenue diversification, local governments have attempted to diversify their sources of revenue by implementing one or a combination of these taxes: sales taxes, income taxes, game of chance taxes (gambling, races, lotter, and their derivatives), user charge taxes, and sumptuary taxes (cigarettes, alcohol, and their derivatives) (Lee, Johnson, and Joyce, 2013). Centralization of generation facilities give way to smaller, more distributed generation partially due to loss of traditional economies of scale.Penetration of distributed generation across U.S has not yet reached significant levels. However that situation is changing rapidly, requires attention to issues related to high penetration of distributed generation within the distribution system.Distributed generation encompasses wide range of prime mover technologies, such as IC engines, gas turbines, microturbines, photovoltaic, F.C(fuel cell), wind power. Most emerging technologies such as micro turbines, photovoltaic, F.C s, gas internal combustion engines with permanent magnet generator require an inverter to interface with electrical distribution system, These emerging technologies have lower emissions, potential to have lower cost negating traditional economies of scale. All applications include power support at substations, deferral of T D upgrades, onsite generating. Indiscriminant application of individual distributed generators can cause as many problems as it may solve. better way to realize emerging potential of distributed generation is to take system approach which views generation, associated loads as subsystem or microgrid . Roman Catholic Contemporary Culture Roman Catholic Theology and Contemporary Culture Christy James Grand Canyon University: HTH 469 April 3, 2016 Similar to that of the rise of classical liberal theology and Protestantism, the Roman Catholic Church experienced a change in theological thought. Modernism led to increased biblical criticism and called for Catholic theologies to adapt to the surrounding modern world. Just like those who opposed liberalism, this new way of thinking was also faced with many within the church who opposed it. Desroches 5/7/15 Introduction American football has been around for over one hundred years, and along with the sport has been the need to provide proper safety for the players. An assortment of padding has been instituted in the game that protects against most blunt trauma including blows to the shoulders, mid section, and legs. In an attempt to prevent fracture of the skull, helmets were designed. However, studies have shown that helmets do little to nothing to prevent concussive damage to the brain. A polycarbonate shell is used as the outer housing for regulation football helmets, but along with this material, the materials used on the inside of the helmet are just as, if not more, important. The purpose of this report is to analyze the materials used in current football helmet design and the improvements being made in the field of materials science in order to combat the severe number of concussions suffered by NFL players. Concussions There is a large amount of ambiguity when diagnosing concussions. Since there is no definitive test that can be run on the brain while a person is alive to determine if they have suffered a concussion, recording an accurate number of concussions is difficult in the NFL or any sport for that matter. A concussion, in the simplest terms, is a jarring of the brain that is caused by a blow to the head or body. Traditional thinking led ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She decides to search for the headmistress s office so that she might become more acquainted with the building. As she turns a corner she collides with a petite woman. Pardon me, darling. The woman murmurs to herself. Her chestnut brown eyes smile fondly down at the student. Yes, it s Angela Liddel. The girl says uncertainly, Who might you be? Pleased to make acquaintances Miss Liddel, darling, I am Headmistress Ariadne LeFoux, but you may simply call me Madame. I am the headmistress. A society with a greater degree of separation between religion and government promotes a superior level of liberty and creativity amongst its people. By the time of the republic it had developed into an honorific system of ancestor worship that focused on family and the importance of that unit as a model for the republic. The Roman religion came to mirror that of the Greeks, as did so much of their society. Their government maintained a control over religion throughout, however, using laws to promote the worship of some and condemn the worship of other gods. Indeed, after the crises of the late republic one of Augustus actions was to promote a return to the traditional family and religious values by building temples and supporting religious schools. He outlawed new, foreign religions and after his death he was worshiped as a god. This was the beginning of the turn back towards religious autocracy. The emperors became quasi religious figures in life and were objects of popular cult worship after their deaths. This is a rejection of the Hellenic ideal of the greatness of the common man. It promotes the will of a single idealized super elite to the detriment of the populace. By the decline of the western empire the emperors ruled by decree, sending their infallible word down from on high to the masses. The free debate of ideas was dead. He is claimed by his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely one of the reasons she leaves him in the dust behind her (137). This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a weakness of living almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful, silver dog collar. After finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a lover. Due to this realization, he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that he had more strength than she had anticipated. However, he does not have the emotional strength to follow through with it, and in a fit of hysteria, Myrtle runs into the road and is instantly killed after being run over by a car. Further arguing that incomplete should have greater leniency than complete attempts is due the attempter s chance of voluntary abandonment. The attempter may change his mind voluntarily and not gone through with the unlawful act. From my personal perspective, I feel it would be legally and morally justified for the attempter to occur the same punishment as that of the completed offender because even if they voluntarily had not gone through with the unlawful act they had the mere preparation in place. Although mere preparation cannot be used, you would consider other factors and implications like the level of intent the defendant had. It is important to remember the punishment of an attempt is at the judge s discretion. Therefore if the offence is the offender s first attempt, the judge may be more lenient to let them off with a less punishment, despite them having all the intention required to commit the crime. • 37. Supernatural Elements Of The Supernatural Transformation scares readers by possibly using some of the following: the supernatural, the unknown and death. People may be scared of clowns or the dark. A scene can be bright and happy then go to something dark and scary. This relates to the topic because someone can go from alive to dead, which could be a supernaturalelement. Also because change will create fearfor the reader. Here s a quote that may give an easier understanding She remembered who she was and the game changed. (Lalah Deliah). This can be used to relate because someone will be scared, but then it will kick in that it s not real. A form of transformation is the element of the supernatural. Ghosts for example. We read the story House Taken Over it states in the story The sound came through muted and indistinct, a chair being knocked over onto the carpet or the muffled buzzing conversation. (Cotazar pg39). This shows how a character may have been doing something then suddenly here s something then or scared or startled. Another example would be possession. In the movie The Exorcist made in 1973 A girl was possessed. During the movie it says I have dreams of a rose and falling down a long flight of steps (William the exorcist ). Thinking of roses then suddenly falling down a flight of stairs? The shows a different type of fear. Lastly moving objects. In the movie Paranormal Activity a lot of this happens. Something goes from one side of the room to the other. You re unsure why or how this kind of thing could happen. That isn t something you see on a daily basis so it causes you to be scared. Another way transformation can be shown in the story is by the unknown. In the story Where is There a stranger is outside, and the family is unsure why. It says here So in the chill, damp, dampening dusk the stranger wandered around the property while the mother set the dining room table and the father appeared covertly out the window (Oates pg69). Being unsure of what a strangers doing at your house makes you nervous and fearful he will do something to your family. There is then dreams. Have you ever had a bad dream? Waking up in the middle of the night when you re young. Even getting a dream catcher because you think it ll help stop bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similar to the argument that Faye has with her father, the moment one person is unable to keep up the fantasy, no one is able to successfully participate, which more often than not, leads the participants to want to destroy what has deprived them of their escape. Faye, in this case, is the person who refuses to fully participate in the fantasy because [s]he became bored with the life they were leading together and as her boredom deepened, she began to persecute him (111). The issue here seems to be the fact that there is still an authenticity to Homer s actions and emotions, whereas Faye is incapable of feeling the same type of tenderness, or being candidly generous the way Homer can. As a result, she found his servility was like that of a cringing, clumsy dog, who is always anticipating a blow, welcoming it even, and in a way that makes overwhelming the desire to strike him (111). The anger that Faye feels leads her to be both verbally and physically abuse to Homer. While they are at dinner with Tod, Faye physically forces Homer to drink a cocktail by pouring the liquor into his mouth and holding her hand over his lips so that he couldn t spit it back. Some of it came out of his nose, even though Homer has told her before that drinking makes him feel sick (112). Once he realizes that drinking may be the only thing that will appease Faye, Homer takes the next drink but this time he took it and drank it himself fighting the stuff down (113). He begins to act as though he enjoys it and does his best to laugh with [Faye] as the night goes on (114). But, it is too late. These two major issues of their time may not seem like they can be logically compared, but statistics for usage and a correlating rise in crime for both eras show a strong relationship. There is also a tendency for an outright defiance of the laws and law makers of the United States government in both cases. Another key development in the evolution of behavior modification was the work of Hans Eysenck and his colleagues in England in the 1950s. Eysenck defined behavior modification as the application of modern learning theory to the treatment of behavioral and emotional problems. He held that, in contrast to traditional psychoanalytic procedures, the efficacy of behavior modification procedures could be verified through experiments. The third major development in the evolution of behavior modification was the publication in 1953 of B. F. Skinner s Science and Human Behavior. This work heralded a philosophical shift from the search for inner causes of behavior to an emphasis on the measurement and modification of observable behavior. A fundamental tenet of Skinner s radical behaviorism is that the probability of a behavior is related directly to the nature of the environmental consequences that follow performance of that behavior. From this basic tenet he derived a set of procedures for modifying behavior by a method called operant conditioning. Specifically, behavior is strengthened, or increased in frequency, when followed by either a positive consequence (positive reinforcement) or removal of a negative consequence (negative reinforcement). As a result, the stories and overall structure of the book provide scholars plentiful amounts of literary material to analyze. The book s broad moral structure based mainly on natural will allows Boccaccio to approach multiple topics, including restraint, desire, sex, misogyny, deceit, social structure, religion, and death, without becoming constrained by any one topic. Additionally, the individual stories in The Decameron offer multiple meanings to further expand the interpretive potential of the book. The tenth story of day ten (10.10), told by Dioneo, exemplifies Boccaccio s usage of allegory and satire to provide a multilayered critique of social norms in medieval society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Williams focuses on Dioneo s last story because she thinks it represents a capitulation to medieval misogyny and interests. Even with many good ideas and connections, in my opinion, she misconstrues the ultimate significance of the Griselda story by neglecting Dioneo s reflection at the end of the tale. Williams focuses on how this story is meant to return the brigata to the medieval expectations of which they are about to face again. According to Williams, the final story shows how Dioneo relinquishes all claim to being considered an advocate for social change and instead simply returns to acting as the primary voice of the author, Giovanni Boccaccio. Central to this claim is Williams belief that the story returns the brigata to the existing gender roles of medieval society. However, after reading Petrarch s thorough reworking of the Griselda story to fit a more moralistic stance, Boccaccio s extreme Griselda story is a satirical criticism of existing gender roles in The Decameron. Ending with his reflection, Dioneo states that Gualtieri should have married a woman that would have found another man to warm her wool. The built environment is human activities and their interactions to the environment that are shaped by our social economic activities. Furthermore, it is also imperative to know what pollutants are, pollutants are any gas, liquid or solid substance that have been emitted into the atmosphere and are in high enough concentrations to be considered harmful to the environment, or human, animal and plant health (B.C. Air Quality , 2013). The concepts of spatiality, temporality, organizational structure, and health effects and outcomes all relate to one another in a sense that they are scales or levels that can correlate with one another to create cause and effects to the environment. Scale can be defined as the spatial, temporal, quantitative, or analytical dimensions used to measure and study any phenomenon, and levels as the units of analysis that are located at different positions on a scale (Cash, 2006). Similar to spatial scale that can be thought of as divisible into different levels, temporal scale can be thought of as divisible into different time frames related to rates, durations, or frequencies (Cash, 2006).
