Joy because she does not see herself as beautiful as such a name implies. In fact, the
narrator says, she had thought and thought until she had hit upon the ugliest name

Instead, she chooses to wear a six year old skirt and a yellow sweat shirt with a

admiration and tenderness. The mere idea that this Bible salesman would be drawn
to her leaves Hulga in complete astonishment and wonder. The narrator describes
Hulga s fascination with the boy s fondness by saying, It was like surrendering to
him completely. It was like losing her own life and finding it again, miraculously, in
his (141). No one, including her mother, had ever seen Hulga as beautiful. For this

In William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, there is a motif of women being
equated with gold, money, and jewelry. Portia resides in a trapped patriarchal society
where her life revolves around the men who play her like a puppet. Ironically, men
from both the living and the dead control her. From the beginning, Portiais bounded
by the lottery set forth in her dead father s will which gives potential suitors a
chance to choose between three caskets: gold, silver, and lead. This act by her
father is an objectification of Portia. Portia is made out to be a prize waiting to be
correctly chosen. Her suitor, Bassanio, who chooses the right casket is a materialistic
men. Bassanio objectifies Portia starting from the moment he first mentions her to
Antonio. He talks about Portia s wealth status before saying her name. To
Bassanio, Portia is like a golden goose; she is the money source provider. He
compliments Portia on her physical beauty, her fair skin, and her golden locks.
However, not only does Bassanio objectify Portia but Portia seems to objectify
herself as well. Portia tells Bassanio that she is in one of the caskets he will choose.
It seems that rather than Portia actually objectifying her own self, she has a mindset
that she is an object because of the patriarchal society she lives in. However, right
before Bassanio chooses, Portia slightly hints at Bassanio the correct casket by
singing a song; she cheats. This notion of cheating can be seen as the very first step

Student athletes should be required to take physical education classes like the rest of
the school. The very important values that students learn through physical education
classes are something that sports cannot teach. If schools do consider an exemption,

When students play sports only a select group of skills are developed. The National
Association for Sport and Physical Education suggestion instruction that includes
Instruction in a variety of motor skills that are designed to enhance the physical,

National Association for Sports and Physical Education has a membership that
consists of educators and administrators. One of the main goals of the organization

Long working hours have both disadvantage and advantages (Kuriger, 2004). The
advantage being the extra working hours can be used to create employment.
However, if this is not the case and the same workers are overworked then it
becomes a drawback to both the workers and the organization. Employees will want
to work the extra hours so as to earn more pay and some it is due to job insecurity.
Some organizations will not pay the extra hours arguing that its part of the job

was a big change for myself. I had an I.E.P at the time and my caseworker was Linda
Rich. Not only did she impact my life but she impacted a lot of other teenagers look
on schooling. She was a Teacher assistant for two years at Lake Forest High School
also, a special ed and mainstream teacher since 1981. Before becoming a teacher
Rich wished people told her it wasn t always as easy as it looks. You can have a
whole lesson planned out with numerous amounts of examples and the next day
you go back to review, and the kids look at you with blank faces. With that being
said, it s not always the students that have a hard time. Each student learns
differently and at a different pace. Being the teacher you have to plan out different
methods of teaching the same material. I agree with what she stated. The role of
teacher is not always easy. You have to be ready for a whole lesson to fall apart but
it s your job to stay patient and re teach in a new way. I can agree with what Rich
said about learning a lesson and coming in the next day and not having a single
clue on how to do it. The stress and anxiety we feel when sitting there watching
them write examples on the board, is the same feeling the teachers get when
writing lesson plans. Have you ever been in class and finally something clicks in
your brain, your eyes light up big and you almost jump out of your seat? Most call
it the ah hah! Moment . That is the most rewarding thing as a teacher. As Rich
stated. It may not always be academically but socially too. Seeing the faces of kids
smile and laugh because they re in an environment you the teacher create is
something only teachers can understand. From experience and taking the course at
CLC where i learned hands on at a preschool I agree one hundred percent. As a
teacher it makes your whole day better
