stores. This paper will explore the known issues in the Target breach and consider some of the Critical
Controls that could have been used to prevent this breach and mitigate the losses. There are multiple
factors that led to the largest data loss in history. Vendors were subject to various phishing attacks,
memory scraping malware and detection used by Target that failed. One of the possible solutions for
preventing and mitigating similar breaches is using a multi layered security strategy, and to consider
human factors that may be contributed to the loss of this information.
The Breach
Target, one of the nation s largest retailers, had a data breach that had up to 40 million consumers have
their credit card and debit card data stolen, while up to 70 million had their personal information
stolen such as their addresses and phone numbers. Information from the credit and debit cards stolen
was the names, the card numbers, expiration date and the CVV (card verification value). The
consumer information that was stolen such as names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and even
email addresses. The breach took place during the holiday shopping rush of 2013. This breach

readers themselves, who are after innovation in business and marketing, are able to incentivize and
persuade the people. The main message focuses on making decisions and choices appealing to a larger
group that could have once started off as a decision to be of one s own private benefit. In order, to
think like a Freak as Dubner and Levitt put it, one must first be able to put away their moral compass .
This is considered the thought processes of oneself that are vague, for they are biased by the views of
the persons on what would be the right thing to do according to their political, religious, or ethical

put away their moral guiding will already have a plan on what to do that may not be the most

Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church has two different youth groups, one for the Senior High and one
for the Junior High. The Edge program, which is the youth group as a whole, consists of dividing the
students into young teen and senior teen. Every Sunday night the youth group meets from 6pm to
7:45pm. Ryan Moline is the youth pastor of the young teens, he has split the youth group into the 7th
and 8th graders which meet on Sunday nights and 5th and 6th graders that meet on Wednesday nights.
