USA policy of containment
Was the US policy of Containment a success or a failure?
It was in a speech made by the 33rd President of the United States of America, Harry Truman in
which he announced a policy that would undoubtedly shape the way his nation would be looked at
for much of the century (or at least the half of it that remained). It was in this speech that he
announced his very own Doctrine, intended to to support free people who are resisting attempted
subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. , to save the free peoples of Eastern
Europe from the monster known as Communism, a political ideology born out of the Russian
Revolution of 1917, that had spread somewhat like a plague, throughout the lands in the East, which

Initially, American leaders were unsure about how exactly containment would be implemented.
Would it be applied everywhere? Would it involve economic aid to help nations reconstruct their
economies? Would it involve military confrontation? The answer was to come soon.
In June 1947, the United States announced the Marshall Plan, intended to help economic recovery
in Europe and thus prevent the spread of Communism in a Europe that was increasingly becoming
a breeding ground of hate , thus providing a comforting environment for the rise of the Marxist
ideology. At first, the Marshall Plan seemed to be a success, with economic aid worth $17 billion
being made available to Europe and ensuring the protection of democratic governments in Turkey
and Greece. Marshall Aid did help economic recovery in Europe, erasing unemployment and
improving living standards greatly. Most Western European nations were happy to accept American
aid in order to redevelop their economies. However, Stalin forbade any Eastern European countries
from accepting the Plan and setup organizations like the Cominform and Comecon instead, to
further tighten Stalin s grip over Eastern Europe.
One of containment s major aims was also to ensure that West Germany and West Berlin could get
its economy back on track to prevent the infiltration of Communism from East Germany, controlled
by the Soviets. In 1946, the Allied zones of Germany were combined

The Importance Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is the utilization of computers to imitate human brains in restricted domains.
This is a consequence of developing computer which carry on logically, reason rationally and can
adequately decipher its surroundings continuously in real time. Artificial Intelligence is no longer a
fictionist concept, the superior computing prowess of artificial intelligence has enabled them to
surpass humans in problem solving. They have made it conceivable to recreate complex activities
that need proficient mastery. Chess playing program is an astounding case of an intellectual
system. Artificial intelligence is an extremely wide interdisciplinary field which connects to many
domains, all the computing disciplines, but also chemistry,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

to portray, understand human emotion and also learn from experience and learn from errors.
The Basic format of AI and its components is displayed inside the image (Tecuci). With the
creation of robots with artificial intelligence, we are able to create robots which can work on
task with greater efficiency than human beings. Hence, the basic fear of robots replacing
humans in the workforce rises as a potential threat for losing jobs. But individual of society
forget that Artificial intelligence will also create lots of jobs as they will require humans to help
maintain the condition of the bots and also to upgrade and fix issue in the bots. Also, the bots will
mostly take the jobs which are mainly labor infused. Therefore, if we have bots performing the
simple task of society it will require society to grow and become smarter hence benefiting the
society as a whole (Atkinon). Second, frequently individual of society worry that development in
Artificial intelligence will result in computer starting a revolution as they

The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History
Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded
through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story
and provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both
aspects give historya better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written
history due to the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social
implications of oral history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a
complex process, it enhances historical practices for many reasons.
The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the
understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due
to being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words
which may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through
text thus it allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity
of words also creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an
analogy to express the difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and
handbooks invariably provide advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice
and comment show considerable divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion
that textual accounts can leave out some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience
perceives the information given, importance will be given to items which can t be expressed
through text. Oral history serves a social purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a
better understanding about social, political and economic issues which may not be written about.
Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices
by emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise.
Oral history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the
illiterate, to express their stories. In Telling

What Ideas About Love and the Past Are Explored in †Love...
Throughout Love Songs in Age and Wild Oats, Philip Larkin uses various literary techniques, such
as imagery, structure and symbolism to convey certain aspects of love and the passing of time.
These aspects are illuminated by Dannie Abse in Down the M4.
Love Songs in Age pictures a woman, perhaps Larkin s mother, who has kept the musical scores
of songs she used to play, perhaps on the piano, and rediscovers them after many years, when she is
a widow. In the poem, Larkin uses lexical choice to explore how the idea of love is often distorted
and in reality, love fails to live up to its promises of freshness and brilliance . In the third stanza,
the concept of much mentioned almost clichГ©d, love is presented in its brilliance , love ... Show

The imagery conjures thoughts of gorgeous petals, yet we often forget about the prickly stem on
which the rose sits. This word is used in both, the first and third stanzas, to depict the beautiful
woman who the narrator falls in love with. Her beautiful face and body allure him into affection,
leading him to overlook her harsh thorns . Ironically rose also suggests favourable, comfortable,
or easy circumstances, a definition that is the complete opposite of what the unattainable lover
instigates in the narrator s life. The speaker also uses words such as cathedral , ring , and clergy
in the second stanza, to implicitly state that he proposes to the beautiful lover, and is denied
many times. In the third stanza, Larkin s creative use of the word snaps in describing the
pictures of his lover he carries around. Instead of simply calling them pictures or photographs, he
substitutes a word that resembles what the woman in the picture did to his heart! In the last lines
of the first stanza the speaker ends with But it was the friend I took out , considering he rambles
on about how beautiful and great her friend is, it is confusing and ironic that he chooses the girl in
specs . The speaker continues on in the second stanza and says I believe I met beautiful twice the
uncertainty of how many times he met her is not genuine and is only meant to look like he does not
consider or remember how many times they met, when realistically

Thomas Hobbes s The Once-Ler
Thomas Hobbes once said, The passions that incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such
things as are necessary to commodious living; and a hope by their industry to obtain them.
According to the quote, Hobbes presumed that humans are committed to fulfill their own desires,
while remaining ignorant to the effects of their actions. This quote is accurate because in the book
The Lorax, Dr.Seuss depicts an antagonist, the Once ler, who detrimentally impacts the environment
to satisfy his gluttony for money. In the story, Once ler discovers the resource, truffula trees, and
uses it as the main product of his business. After his destruction of a truffula tree, he s then warned
by the Lorax to cease his actions. Nevertheless, the Once ler fails to recognize his concern and the
dowry of his actions began to surface. The atrocities that occurred due to his operation resulted in
deforestation and pollution, which inevitably created a egregious environment that was no longer
habitual to the inhabitants of the area. Despite his actions, the Once ler does... Show more content

For instance, the Great London Smog, was an incident that occurred in December, 1952 that
massacred approximately four thousand people. The event was inevitably caused by the industrial
revolution, which caused Britain to be slathered with factories that polluted the environment it was
located in. The demand for tangible and luxurious products led to an increase of factories, which
manifested to a repugnant environment that was inadequate for human life. The selfness exhibited
displayed not only ignorance, but aided to confirm that humans are innately selfish, as they satisfy

Gay Men and Adoption Debate Essay
Gay Men and Adoption Debate
My investigation is based on the issue should gay men be allowed to adopt .
My aims are:
(1) To find out how the media portray gay adoption
(2) To uncover the attitudes of the general public toward gay adoption.
I am interested in this issue because I believe that it is unfair that gay people suffer more prejudice
than straight people when adopting a child. I think they should just be given the same checks as
straight people.
My first aim links into the parts of the syllabus; The Media and Power and Authority.
My second aim links in with The Family, Power and Authority, The Media and Stratification and
Differentiation.

Ultimately the contemporary family is more diverse. Today, more than in the past, gay couples
are more widely accepted, but there is still a longstanding taboo hanging over the idea of two
men bringing up a child. This is less so where there are two women, because they do not need to
adopt, and people also believe that it is women s natural goal to bring up a child. The debate over
gay men adopting is fuelled by the media who often make people scared of the idea.
Methodology ===========
For this investigation I used a number of methods to create my report. When distributing my
questionnaires I first used a pilot questionnaire to test my style of questions. From this study I
found that some of my questions were badly worded or contained spelling mistakes. This turned
out to be very helpful as a lot of my questions were very badly worded and could cause some
confusion.
When writing my questionnaire, I was careful not to include any questions that may cause offence
to my interviewees. The subject, Finding out the publics attitudes to gay adoption could raise some
problems. For example it was difficult to ask peoples sexuality because to many people that is a
very sensitive and private issue. I also accepted that asking peoples religion was too much of a
personal question. I realise that these questions

Donald Trump Monologues
Although my main focus of my mockumentary was Trump s issue with Mexicans, I d like to
expand the focus onto Trump s racism, xenophobia and general thoughts, policies and views that
have offended many different individuals and groups of people. I believe that these things he has
said he would do should nullify his eligibility to run for president.
Donald Trump has voiced his strong opposition to Mexicans being in the United States; he even
went as far as proposing the idea of building a wall separating Mexico from the US. According to
Forbes article written by Dolia Estevez, he wants to deport 11.3 million undocumented workers, 6
million of which are Mexicans, and strip babies born to undocumented immigrants of their
birthright citizenship.
Trump s public racism dates back to long before the start of his presidential campaign. As a real

One of the scariest things about Trump saying all these things is that there s so many people out

usually wouldn t approach anyone else. Furthermore, others are drawn to people in wheelchairs
because they automatically feel pity and interest in the difference in lifestyles. Rather than letting a

astounding and I was, frankly, blown away by her accomplishments. She was able to travel to

Designing A Computer Controlled Machine
Robots, like any computer controlled machine, can be programmed in their movements. But the
production of control data in the form of coded machine instructions requires programming skills as
well as an understanding of robotics concepts such as kinematics, which lie outside most architects
domain of expertise. To address this problem, the custom robotprogramming library YOUR, which
aims at making robot control intuitively accessible to students, has been implemented. Based on
this, a toolkit of visual programming components for GrasshopperTM, allowing students to directly
assemble graphical components for the control of their robotic fabrication sequences, was
developed. The technologies for controlling robot arms are especially... Show more content on

Robotic fabrication and computational design augment each other in several ways. In addition to
the direct materialization of digitally conceived designs, the physical working model provides
students with a differentiated and sensual feedback on their design, whereby they can immediately
engage with its constructive and structural aspects. As part of an iterative process, these insights
can then be re integrated into the computational design strategy.
Architectural design practice will be increasingly mediated by digital technology in the future.
Digital fabrication technology allows architects to conceive designs both digitally and physically,
and may empower them to take a more active role in the materialization and construction process.

People are not forced to exercise so they could be equal with the stronger; rather the strong must
equal themselves by adding weights to make them weaker. This produces a sickly and
depressing view of society. The people themselves become lesser. After time, the dictatorship of
downward living becomes almost a way of live. George has been carrying this burden of forty
seven pounds for so long now around his neck that he says it does not bother him anymore. It has
become apart of him. When one has become desensitized from the situation, there is no hope for an
uprising or change.
This is why the person who is in their mid thirties living with their parents all their life are most
likely not going to move out anytime soon on their own will. After a longer period of time, it
almost becomes comfortable and natural. To move on would actually be harder to accomplish.

Signs of Stress in the Police Profession
What issues can be a sign of stress in the police profession and what could be done to help
prevent it? All aspects of any job can be stressful. There are several different factors that can
cause stress. The cause of stress in the police profession is characterized by job related stress and
fatigue. According to Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary (2013), stress in general is a
physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a
factor in disease causation (Full definition of stress, 1c.). Job stress may involve the type of
work your do, your boss, or co workers or your hours you work. When it comes to job stress, it
can take a toll on your productivity, as well as your physical and emotional health. Job related
stress is one of the most common causes of heart disease in the workplace. However, in my
current career as a Deputy Sheriff, I have more stress from work related issues then the stress
that comes from everyday life. Besides the job related stress issues and concerns, my job is very
rewarding to me. I have the opportunity to help people and give them a sense of security.
However, there are times where the workplace is not so rewarding because we are over worked
and under paid. Also the constant changes to the workplace policies and procedures are designed
to benefit the employer instead of the employee is major cause in job stress. These types of
stressful situations may affect policepersonnel on every level.

Brutus s Responsibility In Julius Caesar
Honourable people have been known to perform credible acts typically characterized by integrity
and candor which have earned them the respect of many people. Throughout the entire play, Brutus
has shown various examples of an appropriate claim to honour which is what makes him the most
honourable man. He has been able to stand by his morals, take responsibility for his actions, and
was able to earn the respect of many characters in the play, including his enemies.
With the lingering idea of Julius Caesar s rise to dictatorial power, many of the Roman politicians
are beginning to become anxious, since an emperor of Rome would mean an end to the Roman
republic and their own power. In spite of this, many of them seek to end his life and want Brutus
to join in on the conspiracy. Brutus agrees to join the conspiracy but only because it helps the
Roman people. Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more. (3.2.21) In Brutus speech

The Effects Of Prenatal Screening On Children
Prenatal screening is used to detect any potential diseases or disabilities that a fetus may have or
develop in the future. Many procedures are done to test said fetus, including analyzing a sample of
amniotic fluid or testing a few cells from the placenta. Various genetic disorders are tested for, such
as mental retardation, sickle cell anemia, and Tay Sachs. Once informed of a fetuspotential defects,
the parents can then decide to either carry the fetus to full term or terminate the pregnancy. As with
any situation concerning a human life, this has produced ethical issues. For those who believe
prenatal screening followed by abortionis acceptable consider it a moral duty for parents to
prevent a disease or disability that could cause their child suffering if they have the means to do
so. Just as a mother can change her diet during a pregnancy to prevent a mental disorder, parents
can choose to abort a fetus to prevent that child from having a life of pain and suffering. To not
prevent a disease or disorder is to disregard a child s basic human desire to live a normal, healthy
life, and is thus unfair to the child. Further advantages of prenatal screening are that it helps
minimize overall suffering in the world and promotes general welfare. It also not only prevents the
child from physical and emotional distress but it prevents a family s emotional and economical
distress, too. Although prenatal screening and abortion procedure may be relatively expensive, it

Scott Lunder May 1, 2013 HT MGT397J Reflection Paper
I always heard stories from my dad about how great the 1970s and1980s were but I never could
grasp what was so great about it. After interviewing my father about what made the 1980s
unique, special, and different, I was really able to make a connection of how identical his
description was to the one that took place in Ready Player One. After comparing the similarities
between the two, I was also able to make the connection of how different everything is today
compared to the lifestyle back in the 1980s. Before I interviewed my dad, I informed him that I

excitement in as we could only hope it was the Nintendo 64. We ripped off the gift wrap and there it
was the Nintendo 64. I recall being speechless and in state of shock because I finally had my own
Nintendo 64. Now I can t speak for every kid but a majority of my childhood consisted of playing
video games. My memories of playing the games with my friends, being excited about a new video
game console, and the pure anticipation of buying the new and hottest video games still stick
with me today. I was glued to my Nintendo 64 and could not stop playing Super Mario 64 and
NFL Blitz. I was like Wade in Ready Player One, I did not care what was happening around me,
all I wanted to do was play my Nintendo 64. Like Wade said in Ready Player One, Going outside
is highly overrated (Cline, P.267) I found this funny because as a kid this is exactly how I felt.
Anyways after the Nintendo 64 phase grew old, it was all about the Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube,
Playstation and Play Station Portable. Sadly my parents never bought me the Gameboy but they
made up for it by buying me three of those four systems. My house had turned into a video arcade,
my friends always couldn t wait to come over. What can I say my house was the place to be as a
kid. As usual this phase grew old and then it was all about the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. I was in

The Movie Invictus
Invictus: Is it Hollywood or is it History? No one is born hating another person because of the
color of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to
hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its
opposite. I have viewed the Invictus film and thoroughly researched Nelson Mandela and the
people he encountered during his term in office and even during his prison time. Mandela has
been one of the greatest inspirations in this world, he has shown people that even if you start
life bad, there are always things you can mend back together. Mandela is definitely one of the
most dedicated, encouraging people I have ever researched about. In this paper I will prove that
the film, Invictus, was historically accurate by discussing the true historical people and events,
summarizing the movie, and comparing and contrasting how the movie portrayed the true
people and events. Nelson was such an inspiration and he influenced so many people in his
lifetime, he was truly such a strong and straight forward person. Nelson Mandela was from a
village of Mvezo, Transkei. He was born July 18, 1918 and he was raised in the small village.

Communism And Fascism Similarities
There are many political philosophies in this day and age. Many people seem to confuse the terms
such as Communism, Socialism, and Fascism together. This is major mistake. Although they have
some overlap they are all different ideologies and are not the same thing. These ideologies all have
their own separate beliefs. Their terms are not interchangeable, Socialism is Socialism, not
Communism. Fascism, by definition, is an authoritarian and nationalistic right wing system of
government and social organization. The name comes from an Italian word, fascismo. This means
bundle, political group. This would be prominent in Mussolini s Italy. The main idea is to do what
is best for the state, not necessarily the people. The government would do what they thought would
be best for the wellbeing of the country as a whole, not necessarily its residents.( What is Fascism?

It would be published in his Communist Manifesto. This ideology would spread to Russia in the
form of Stalin. He would study the works of Marx and bring the ideas with him when he came to

theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and
exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole. This ideology basically
makes everyone even. Equal wages amongst everyone to make society equal. This ideology can be

The Forgotten Legion By Directed By Ridley Scott
The words veni, vidi, vici, or otherwise roughly translated as I came, I saw, I conquered , were
spoken by the man who could be considered as ancient Rome s most famous persona, Julius
Caesar. These three words have become iconic and synonymous with what can readily be labeled as
ancient Roman philosophy . It was an outlook that, in certain contexts, marginalized groups of
people through slaverywhile glorifying the image of honour and warfare. The Forgotten Legion,
written by Ben Kane, ideally follows the story of three men, two ex gladiators and an Etruscan
prophesier, as they travel to the far reaches of the Roman Republic s hold on Asia in a legion of
soldiers to face the dangers of an unknown enemy. The film Gladiator, directed by... Show more

In the novel, The Forgotten Legion, and the film, Gladiator, the characters exhibit traits of
perseverance and strong determination when seeking to break away from Roman ideologies to
fulfill one s goals and aspirations.
Being labelled as slave was a harsh reality faced by the characters of The Forgotten Legion;
moreover, it was the ambition of the two gladiators to escape Rome and cut ties with their past.
Being seen as a slave meant that the characters, Romulus and Brennus, would be considered the
property of the gladiator school, Ludus Magnus, or amongst the lowest ranking in Roman society.
After killing a Roman patrician in an unforeseen scrap, both gladiators were confronted with an
opportunity to escape the city and free themselves from slavery. After leaving Rome, it becomes
evident to both characters that the only action that could negate their status as slaves was the
removal of their brands:
Seeing the slave population [as they travelled through the countryside] had increased both men s
desire to discard all memories of their own captivity. Romulus and Brennus brands were permanent
evidence of their status ... [that left] only one solution. [Brennus] heated the blade over the flames
before removing the hated letter LM with a few deft cuts. (Kane 339)
The brand was a discernible indication for prompt execution for run away slaves; furthermore, the
implications of the mark stemmed any chance of the ex gladiators surviving very long outside of
the city of

Invisible Child In The Shadows Dasani s Homeless Life
Within the confines of this text I will be exploring the New York Times article invisible child in the
shadows Dasani s homeless life. Dasani s life will be examined through the lenses of five different
theories. The five theories will be, Health and wealth connection theory, cognitive theory,
psychoanalytic theory, attachment theory, and relational theory. To be summed up in the end with
the conclusion.
The Health and wealth connection distilled is our health will most commonly reflect from our
amount of wealth. The wealthy can afford the cost of quality care and the time to take care of them
selves. Within the textbook, Dimensions of Human Behavior Hutchison writes. Public health
experts have long noted the association of poor health outcomes, in all body systems, with low
income, low education, unsanitary housing, in adequate healthcare, on stable employment, and
unsafe physical environment (Hutchison, 2015). Easily demonstrated throughout American society
the rather dubious and is somewhat perplexing phenomenon of the Health and Wealth connection
theory. The gap between the haves and have nots are ever expanding. Those who have the funding
to pay for resources will pay to get those resources. And those who do not have adequate funding to
pay for said resources will unfortunately have to stand in the long lines to receive seemingly,
deceptively, scarce resources.
Looking at Dasani through the ever changing and expanding theory of the Health and Wealth
connection. The

Sea cliffs, beaches, river valleys, bays, sandbars, sea stacks, and sea arches are examples of
coastline features. Sea cliffs are high walls of rock. They are formed when erosion from the
waves takes place on a raised piece of land forming a sharp drop off in the land. Beaches are the
portion of land that is the area between low and high tide. Many beaches are made of millions of
tiny quartz particles called sand. River valleys is a stream that erodes itself into the land
forming a valley. River valleys are an important source of sediments going to the sea. A bay is a
broad inlet of the sea where a sandbar partly encloses it from the sea. A sandbar is a thin piece of
land which curves toward the land usually enclosing a bay. Sometimes sandbars are made of
sediments carried by the waves. Sea stacks are tall narrow rocks along the seacoast. Sometimes
sea cliffs can be eroded by waves into a large arch made of rock. Like the ocean itself, the
coastline is full of beautiful qualities. The ocean profile is full of features like underwater
mountains, cliffs, valleys, volcanoes, and plains. The coastline, which is a feature of the ocean
profile, is full of beauty and variety. Erosion helps in the formation of both ocean profile and the

Examples Of Deceiving Others In A Doll s House
Deceiving others is not always done with ill intentions. Saving your life or someone else s is
enough for some to lie to those that are close to them. Such is seen in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s
House. In Ibsen s drama, the protagonist, Nora Helmer lies to her husband in order to illegally
acquire money for a trip that saves him from depression and potential death. Nora deceives her
husband because during the Victorian era, women were not allowed the same rights as men, so
she had no legal means by which to acquire the money, and continues to deceive him in order to
preserve his reputation and their marriage. Nora is initially a character who tells only white lies,
seemingly harmless fibs. The play starts off with her lying about sneaking snacks... Show more

been their children trying to get into it, not willing to admit that she had tried to break into his

of dignity that she has left, finally worrying about herself before anyone else. This last lie, however,
leads up to her finally speaking the truth and expressing that she no longer feels that she loves
Torvald. Her husband is furious at her, insulting her, and fails to see that every lie that she told
was for his sake. Realizing that Torvald can t see her side of things and will only find fault in
what she did, she consequently comes to her decision to leave her family. Nora states that she is
not happy and never really was, her marriage to Torvald was as fake as a doll house according to
her. Rather than lie, she is completely honest now and states that she wants to become her own
person and learn that which she doesn t know despite what society might think.
In A Doll s House, Nora lies to Torvald in order to save his life. This one deceptionthat took place
in the past leads to many more and helps her realize that she is unhappy in her marriage. Early on,
Nora tells petty, inconsequential lies. However, most of her lies and deceptions are done for the
sake of her family.

Mandatory Access Control
In computer security, Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is a type of access control in which
a user has complete control over all the programs it owns and executes, and also determines the
permissions other users have those those files and programs. Because DAC requires permissions to
be assigned to those who need access, DAC is commonly called described as a need to know

In computer security, discretionary access control (DAC) is a type of access control defined by the
Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria[1] as a means of restricting access to objects based

More recently, with the departure from strict hardware based enforcement the expectations of the

The Birth Control Movement Essay example
The Progressive Era was a period of social and political reform beginning in the post Gilded Age
19th century and lasting through WWI. Industrial and urban growth of early 19th century America
while representative of opportunity and future advancement simultaneously posed many difficulties
for working class citizens. Prior concerns over the conditions of working class citizens were
multiplied and magnified by overpopulated and impoverished urban communities. During this era
many new Progressive agendas were introduced with the goal of reforming dated and unregulated

In document three from The Case for Birth Control Sanger s rhetoric changes, relying on facts,
statistics, and knowledge based reasoning. Document three proves to be a much more reliable and
comprehensive argument than document one. Sanger advocates small families for the working
class as a means to eliminate poverty (due to large families), illegal abortions, child labor, and to
protect the health of women from overwork and the strain of too frequent child bearing (6, 3,124)
The argument shifts from a pseudo socialist agenda to simply the right of a woman to control her
own body and choose her own destiny. Following the release of The Woman Rebel, Anthony
Comstock spearheaded an anti birth control campaign with the aid of the Society for the
Suppression of Vice, vice as Comstock described it intemperance, gambling, and evil reading

Comstock approaches the birth control issue as a religious zealot, arguing that it is the moral and
spiritual obligation of the people to stray from vice and practice abstinence as the only means of
family planning. Comstock s conservative rhetoric appealed to the Victorian era principles of self
control and moral fortitude. Moreover, Comstock employs the ideology of rule by fear, by

Conflict of interest often appears with post Civil Rights Movement monuments. Placing a
Confederate statue near a Civil Rights Movement memorial could be seen as an attempt to
strengthen white supremacy which is one of the fastest ways to aggravate the immediate audience
which would result in the removal of the Confederate monument. The placement of a statue can
lend it authority or the semblance of government support. Monuments can be placed near a
government building or near government backed memorials and this tactic is known as symbolic
accretion (2, p.420).
A new Confederate monument is being built in Texas which demonstrates positively and
negatively attributes as mentioned above. I will discuss what was done the right way first.
Before building commenced a survey was given to the residents to see if they approved of the

The Importance Of Copper Abuse In Australia
Copper was the first metal used by man in 7000 BC. They used copper a lot in the bronze ages
for swords. They use copper now in TV wirings, charges and mobile phones. Copper ore is mined
both underground and on the surface. They dig large excavations formed called open pit mines.
There are about .5 oz. of copperin your mobile phone. That s more than all the other metals in your
phone and weighs 15% of your phone.
The biggest mine in Australia is the Olympic dam. It produces 55000 tonnes of copper. The
Olympic dam is in the centre of South Australia, and 550 kilometres in Adelaide.
Australia first discovered copper at Kapunda, South Australia in 1842. Copper is mined in Qld,
Nsw, SA, WA and Tasmania. Copper is only not mined in Vic and Nt. Nsw has the most mines in
Australia but Qld produce more copper because their mines are bigger .Copper is found mainly in

Honesty is classified as a noun in part of speech. Honesty has many similar meanings; such as
uprightness, morality, trustworthiness, goodness, scrupulousness, decency, rectitude, righteousness,
fairness, reliability and honor. These synonyms are all equal to truth. The meaning of honesty in

individually wrapped food to our hygiene products. Since the discovery of plasticit has become the
go to material of choice due to its cheap price of production. Unfortunately because of its high
production rate and the fact that it s essentially non biodegradable it has started to consume our
planet from landfills, to rivers, and our oceans. When talking about plastic pollution people usually
think about plastic bags and bottles but another huge product of plastic waste is a toothbrush.
Currently there s about 323,060,000 people in the United states; if you take a very rough estimate
that there s at least 5 million people/ babies who don t have teeth, subtract that from the population,
and then estimate that the average person goes through 3 tooth brushes a year, you end up with
955,800,000 toothbrushes being thrown away per year. That s 1 billion toothbrushes from America
alone, disregarding the fact that your dentist recommends you change your toothbrush at least 4
times a year. Plastic is generally what the average toothbrush is made of. Little plastic beads are
poured into a mold and then heated up till they reach a doughy consistency, rubber detailing is then
added for looks and texture

Self Observation Of A Self
Throughout my self observation, I felt the need to start with a baseline of who I am. Being
raised in the south I learned to respect myself and others, but sometimes people are just right
down obnoxious. Also, I hold myself to high standards because there s no reason why I cannot
make my goals a reality if I give it my all. This is known as Self Concept: The relatively stable set
of perceptions you hold of yourself. (Page 63) For example, in my observationI notice my patience
level is very thin for people who do not have respect for other s education. There s one girl in
particular yesterday, who texted the whole class, which my nursing class is from 8:30am to
2pm. Therefore, as I m trying to listen and highlight in my book, only thing I hear is the sound
of her long nails tapping on her keyboard or her phone vibrating. Than during break she wants to
ask me for the notes, because the teacher was moving too fast. Since this is still the first couple
of weeks of school, I try to be a little more understanding, but I will not do someone s work just
for them not to pay attention. Therefore today, when the test came around I had studied my butt
off and scored very well. But for the girl that sits next to me, she complained that the test was too
hard and how we didn t have the appropriate information to study for the test. In that moment, I
found myself comparing our differences, I work hard for my grades. I study and work my butt off
then there s those people that don t do anything in class but are the first ones to complain. The book
recognized this as Social Comparison: Evaluating ourselves in terms of how we compare with
others. (Page 66) Throughout the rest of my day, I noticed I compare myself to a lot of different
people without even noticing. Like when I was driving home I saw all these people texting and
driving, and I just could not help thinking like what the heck, I can t even look to the side without
going into the other line so how in the world are they texting! I do not compare myself to other to
prove whose better but I believe it just natural to compare others to yourself.
While at home, I observe the unreserved self more than while am at school where I trend to be a
little reserved. I

Nietzsche s View Of Dionysus
In a letter to a nun, Bernard of Clairvaux admonishes, Until now, when living according to your
will and not the will of God, by your law and not that of God, you were living while dead, living
in the world but dead to God; or, if I can speak more truly, living neither in the world or for God
(qtd. in Newman 177). The sentiments that living on one s terms and not God s is and was
common within Christianity. In fact, multiple documents written in the medieval era point to the
tenet that people must live submit their will to God to achieve salvation and to be accepted in the
Christian community. Part of submitting to his doctrine involves inhibiting visceral and brutish
aspects of the self and encouraging spiritual and benevolent (civilized)... Show more content on

Dionysus, representing the oneness of existence, is experienced as an individuated image
appearing to dazed spectators a relationship that is the germ of Greek tragic theater as a mimesis of
human life (505). If this concept were to exist in Lybeaus Desconus, the townspeople would
experience a sense of awe for both women displayed during the exhibition. They might compare in
positive terms the difference between and preferences they might see. In addition, the hero who is
on display (in this case, Lybeaus Desconus) would provide a sense of unity between the Dionysian
and the Apollonian. Instead of the Apollonian figure emerging from the primordial oneness of
existence where opposites would coexist, Lybeaus Desconus systematically slaughters the creatures
that represent wildness and restricts notions of beauty. The foreground of Nietzsche s criticisms of
Christianity comprises repudiating not only ecstasy but also suffering, manifested through
suppressing bodily impulses and instinctive drives and focusing on an afterlife rather than the
current moment. In general, it is likely Nietzsche would react more positively to the Christian ideals
embedded in many medieval texts than he does in the early 20th century. Ben Morgan reveals

  • 2. USA policy of containment Was the US policy of Containment a success or a failure? It was in a speech made by the 33rd President of the United States of America, Harry Truman in which he announced a policy that would undoubtedly shape the way his nation would be looked at for much of the century (or at least the half of it that remained). It was in this speech that he announced his very own Doctrine, intended to to support free people who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. , to save the free peoples of Eastern Europe from the monster known as Communism, a political ideology born out of the Russian Revolution of 1917, that had spread somewhat like a plague, throughout the lands in the East, which Stalin and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, American leaders were unsure about how exactly containment would be implemented. Would it be applied everywhere? Would it involve economic aid to help nations reconstruct their economies? Would it involve military confrontation? The answer was to come soon. In June 1947, the United States announced the Marshall Plan, intended to help economic recovery in Europe and thus prevent the spread of Communism in a Europe that was increasingly becoming a breeding ground of hate , thus providing a comforting environment for the rise of the Marxist ideology. At first, the Marshall Plan seemed to be a success, with economic aid worth $17 billion being made available to Europe and ensuring the protection of democratic governments in Turkey and Greece. Marshall Aid did help economic recovery in Europe, erasing unemployment and improving living standards greatly. Most Western European nations were happy to accept American aid in order to redevelop their economies. However, Stalin forbade any Eastern European countries from accepting the Plan and setup organizations like the Cominform and Comecon instead, to further tighten Stalin s grip over Eastern Europe. One of containment s major aims was also to ensure that West Germany and West Berlin could get its economy back on track to prevent the infiltration of Communism from East Germany, controlled by the Soviets. • 5. The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story and provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both aspects give historya better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written history due to the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social implications of oral history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a complex process, it enhances historical practices for many reasons. The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due to being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words which may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through text thus it allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity of words also creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an analogy to express the difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and handbooks invariably provide advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice and comment show considerable divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion that textual accounts can leave out some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience perceives the information given, importance will be given to items which can t be expressed through text. Oral history serves a social purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a better understanding about social, political and economic issues which may not be written about. Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices by emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise. Oral history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the illiterate, to express their stories. In Telling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. What Ideas About Love and the Past Are Explored in †Love... Throughout Love Songs in Age and Wild Oats, Philip Larkin uses various literary techniques, such as imagery, structure and symbolism to convey certain aspects of love and the passing of time. These aspects are illuminated by Dannie Abse in Down the M4. Love Songs in Age pictures a woman, perhaps Larkin s mother, who has kept the musical scores of songs she used to play, perhaps on the piano, and rediscovers them after many years, when she is a widow. In the poem, Larkin uses lexical choice to explore how the idea of love is often distorted and in reality, love fails to live up to its promises of freshness and brilliance . The imagery conjures thoughts of gorgeous petals, yet we often forget about the prickly stem on which the rose sits. This word is used in both, the first and third stanzas, to depict the beautiful woman who the narrator falls in love with. Her beautiful face and body allure him into affection, leading him to overlook her harsh thorns . Ironically rose also suggests favourable, comfortable, or easy circumstances, a definition that is the complete opposite of what the unattainable lover instigates in the narrator s life. The speaker also uses words such as cathedral , ring , and clergy in the second stanza, to implicitly state that he proposes to the beautiful lover, and is denied many times. In the third stanza, Larkin s creative use of the word snaps in describing the pictures of his lover he carries around. Instead of simply calling them pictures or photographs, he substitutes a word that resembles what the woman in the picture did to his heart! In the last lines of the first stanza the speaker ends with But it was the friend I took out , considering he rambles on about how beautiful and great her friend is, it is confusing and ironic that he chooses the girl in specs . The speaker continues on in the second stanza and says I believe I met beautiful twice the uncertainty of how many times he met her is not genuine and is only meant to look like he does not consider or remember how many times they met, when realistically ... Thomas Hobbes s The Once-Ler Thomas Hobbes once said, The passions that incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to commodious living; and a hope by their industry to obtain them. This quote is accurate because in the book The Lorax, Dr.Seuss depicts an antagonist, the Once ler, who detrimentally impacts the environment to satisfy his gluttony for money. Many procedures are done to test said fetus, including analyzing a sample of amniotic fluid or testing a few cells from the placenta. Various genetic disorders are tested for, such as mental retardation, sickle cell anemia, and Tay Sachs. Once informed of a fetuspotential defects, the parents can then decide to either carry the fetus to full term or terminate the pregnancy. For those who believe prenatal screening followed by abortionis acceptable consider it a moral duty for parents to prevent a disease or disability that could cause their child suffering if they have the means to do so. Just as a mother can change her diet during a pregnancy to prevent a mental disorder, parents can choose to abort a fetus to prevent that child from having a life of pain and suffering. To not prevent a disease or disorder is to disregard a child s basic human desire to live a normal, healthy life, and is thus unfair to the child. • 24. The Movie Invictus Invictus: Is it Hollywood or is it History? No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. I have viewed the Invictus film and thoroughly researched Nelson Mandela and the people he encountered during his term in office and even during his prison time. Mandela has been one of the greatest inspirations in this world, he has shown people that even if you start life bad, there are always things you can mend back together. Mandela is definitely one of the most dedicated, encouraging people I have ever researched about. In this paper I will prove that the film, Invictus, was historically accurate by discussing the true historical people and events, summarizing the movie, and comparing and contrasting how the movie portrayed the true people and events. Nelson was such an inspiration and he influenced so many people in his lifetime, he was truly such a strong and straight forward person. Nelson Mandela was from a village of Mvezo, Transkei. He was born July 18, 1918 and he was raised in the small village. (history.com) While he was a child, they lost everything just because his father refused to go to court. This is major mistake. Although they have some overlap they are all different ideologies and are not the same thing. These ideologies all have their own separate beliefs. Their terms are not interchangeable, Socialism is Socialism, not Communism. Fascism, by definition, is an authoritarian and nationalistic right wing system of government and social organization. The name comes from an Italian word, fascismo. This means bundle, political group. This would be prominent in Mussolini s Italy. The Forgotten Legion By Directed By Ridley Scott The words veni, vidi, vici, or otherwise roughly translated as I came, I saw, I conquered , were spoken by the man who could be considered as ancient Rome s most famous persona, Julius Caesar. These three words have become iconic and synonymous with what can readily be labeled as ancient Roman philosophy . It was an outlook that, in certain contexts, marginalized groups of people through slaverywhile glorifying the image of honour and warfare. The Forgotten Legion, written by Ben Kane, ideally follows the story of three men, two ex gladiators and an Etruscan prophesier, as they travel to the far reaches of the Roman Republic s hold on Asia in a legion of soldiers to face the dangers of an unknown enemy. In the novel, The Forgotten Legion, and the film, Gladiator, the characters exhibit traits of perseverance and strong determination when seeking to break away from Roman ideologies to fulfill one s goals and aspirations. Being labelled as slave was a harsh reality faced by the characters of The Forgotten Legion; moreover, it was the ambition of the two gladiators to escape Rome and cut ties with their past. Being seen as a slave meant that the characters, Romulus and Brennus, would be considered the property of the gladiator school, Ludus Magnus, or amongst the lowest ranking in Roman society. After killing a Roman patrician in an unforeseen scrap, both gladiators were confronted with an opportunity to escape the city and free themselves from slavery. After leaving Rome, it becomes evident to both characters that the only action that could negate their status as slaves was the removal of their brands: Seeing the slave population [as they travelled through the countryside] had increased both men s desire to discard all memories of their own captivity. Romulus and Brennus brands were permanent evidence of their status ... [that left] only one solution. The placement of a statue can lend it authority or the semblance of government support. Therefore, as I m trying to listen and highlight in my book, only thing I hear is the sound of her long nails tapping on her keyboard or her phone vibrating. Since this is still the first couple of weeks of school, I try to be a little more understanding, but I will not do someone s work just for them not to pay attention. Therefore today, when the test came around I had studied my butt off and scored very well. But for the girl that sits next to me, she complained that the test was too hard and how we didn t have the appropriate information to study for the test. In that moment, I found myself comparing our differences, I work hard for my grades.
