Rhetoric In Socrates The Gorgias
The Gorgias is a dialogue in which Socrates expresses his ideas with others about rhetoric. From
the dialogue, it can be argued that the philosopher is a mortal enemy of rhetoric. He condemns it on
ethical and epistemic grounds. Socrates argues that rhetoric is not a real knowledge because it is
not a legitimate art, and that the teachers of rhetoricare nothing but fraudsters. In addition, he
asserts that rhetoric is ethically bankrupt and its main objective is to gratify the ignorant and
enhance its experts power to practice it. It tends to manipulate ignorant individuals into believing on
imaginative things. Therefore, Socratesargues that it is not real art, because a real art should depict
a purified rationalism and knowledge that maintains the changeless good. As a result, Socrates
draws a sharp line between rhetoric and real art or knowledge.
In his argument with Polus, Socrates seems to provide a level ground for both charges against
rhetoric. Socrates asserts that rhetoric is an emperia and a knack based experience. It is a piece
of flattery whose objective is to gratify and provide pleasure, and that it degenerates ethically
(Pratt, 2015). According to Socrates, rhetoric is not part of art. Instead, he refers to it as a flattery

Therefore, rhetoric has no regard to the genuine interest of men (Pratt, 2015). Rhetoric continues to
make pleasure as the bait of innocent and deceives them to believe that rhetoric has the highest
value. According Socrates, cookery pretends to depict an understanding of the kind of food
appropriate for the body. Supposing that the cook and physician are engaged into a competition
regarding the understanding of best and the worst of food with children of men with little

Big Data Management And Management Of Huge Volumes Of All...
3. Big Data Management
Big Data Management (BDM) is the governance and management of huge volumes of all types of

big data management has to deal with and management of Big Data including the key factors
Volume, Velocity and Variety of Big Data. Big data is all about size of data. Big data is very large

information and information management. Big Data Management serves as the essential step for
overseeing and administrating huge amount of information called as Big Data in the organizations.
The security of data is another huge concern of Big Data Management which is expanding with
the increase in Big Data. Big Data Management is not only restricted to storage of ample data. It
also offers data security and integrity. This gets to be the greatest preference of Big Data
Management which makes the associations to adopt BDM and also to create new technique for

Los Angeles Union Station Research Paper
The Los Angeles Union Station Los Angeles Union Station began as a thought in the early1900 s
but it was not until 1933 that construction began based upon the plans of Parkinson and
Parkinson, a father and son team. With the collaborative efforts of many designers, such as
Herman Sachs and Warren Hoak, construction was completed in 1939. The only major structural
changes made since then have been the massive semi dome on the east side, and an office
complex that was added in the 1990 s. The elements used for a building must blend together or
the design will not seem unified and LAUS is an iconic and almost seamless cultural blend of
old style Spanish Colonial Revival, which includes elements of Romanesque Revival as well as
Moorish Revival and Southwestern elements with the newest style of the period known as Art

the railway romanticist era, it has been credited by many as the last great train station ever built,
and it may also be the only one built during the height of the art deco era (Solomon 2015 p 34 35).

Pericles Funeral Speech
In Pericles s Funeral Speech for Athenian War Dead, he brings the listeners attention to the form
of living Athenians and how it differs to outsiders, The way we live differs in another respect
from that of our enemies. Our city is open to all the world. We have never had any aliens laws to
exclude anyone from finding out or seeking anything here, nor any secrets of the city that an enemy
might find out about and use to his advantage. The Athenians lived a simple lives with limited
democracy because of the leadership strategy of Pericles.
Throughout Pericles s childhood, he interacted with artist, philosophers, and musicians. This
interaction took a huge role in his character, and he became a leader of Athens and a huge
supporter of the arts. After the Persian invasion in 480, most Athenians refused to rebuild
Acropolis which was in a state of ruin and served as a reminder of the price of the previous war.
Regardless of their refusal, Pericles convinced them to rebuild Acropolis. The centerpiece of

Dr. Margaret Walker
Organizational Change Phase III Organizational change encompasses many challenges to both the
individual, and the organization. An organization is a living system, as Flower (2002) states living
systems cannot survive without change, challenge, variety, and surprise (Flower, 2002, p. 16). An
organization requires the ability to adapt in to survive as Darwin states in The Origin of Man, It is
not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive
to change (Read Me First, 2013, p. 1). It must adapt to the changing market, global economic
pressures, stakeholder demands, and the diverse needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data obtained from Press Ganey Scores to evaluate patient satisfaction has been shown to have a
direct link with hospital profitability. A 2002 Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care
Organizations report states According to a Press Ganey and Associates report, there is an almost
perfect correlation between hospital employee satisfaction and patient satisfaction (Health care at
the crossroads, 2002, p. 8).
Outcome measurement strategies focus on prevention of slide back by reinforcing the goal,
identifying challenges that may lead to barriers to proposed change, and establishing early
intervention. For example, Schein (2002) states for new behaviors to last, they must first fit into the
personality of the individual or the culture of the group that is being changed. Otherwise, the
behavior will be only a temporary adaptation to the pressures of the change situation, and will erode
once the change agent has ceased to disconfirm the old behavior (Schein, 2002, p. 39). Research
suggests if minimum staffing regulations improve nurse satisfaction, reduce job stress, and relieve
workload, nurse turnover may indeed decline, further improving the quality of hospital care, (Spetz,
2008, p. 1). Although the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care report described on
three pages the dangers of the growing nursing shortage, and its long term impact, managements

Parable Of The Sower Octavia Butler Essay
God is Power infinite, irresistible, inexorable, indifferent. And yet, God is Pliable trickster,
teacher, chaos, clay. God exists to be shaped. God is Change. (Butler 25). In Parable of the
Sower Octavia Butler introduces the concept of religion through her characters specifically
Lauren. In a society that is crumbling, religion is seemed to be the only thing striving. The idea
that although society could be falling apart many of the characters either cling to their beliefs,
or shy away from them. Laurens creation of Earthseed proves that in a failing society, the
concept of religion somehow still survives. In the very beginning of the book Lauren begins to
question the idea of God. Since she grew up in a religious setting (her father being a pastor)
much of her religious knowledge comes from the church. However, from a very early start
Lauren has always begun to question the very principles that were taught to her. In present
society, the issues are just beginning. Lauren is in a secluded community, unable to leave
because of the unknown dangers outside the walls. It s no surprise she begins to question the
principles of God. In the book of Job, God says he made everything and he knows everything so
no one has any right to question what he does with any of it. Okay. That works. That Old
Testament God doesn t violate the way things are now. But that God sounds a lot like Zeus a super
powerful man, playing with his toys the way my youngest brothers play with toy

My First Year As Camp Director
I established a repport and friendship with many of the campers, and especially the counselors.
And this was only my first year as camp director! This was the group of youth that made me realize
that they have such an influence on the younger youth. I was able to see the campers imitate and
follow their counselors. I am excited to put my plans into motion for next summer. The feelings I
have for the youthI have gotten to know over the past year and a half is outrageous. I have so
much pride in them. They are truly amazing individuals. I have seen so much improvement in
them that now I can also see exponential potential in them also. It has only been one complete 4
H year and I cannot even imagine how I will feel five, 10 or 20 years from now. This gives me
the inspiration and motivation to work hard for these youth. I have assigned several roles to
myself to support the growth of older youth in my county and region. I will be a mentor, a friend,
a leader and motivator. I have an advantage when it comes to youth adult partnerships; my age can
dismantle the intimidating authority figure some older youth may see. Our generations, Y
(individuals born in 1981 through 1994) and Z (individuals born after 1994) (Schuckenbrock,

The Sweetest Place On Earth
The sweetest place on Earth is Hersheypark, and not just because of all the Hershey s chocolate.
It truly is a fun, family friendly amusement park that is worth the two hour drive through rural
Pennsylvania. Hersheypark started as a small retreat created by Milton Hershey for his factory
workers. It was a small picnic site with a little pond where the workers could take a break from
their job. This site sits between the Chocolate World building and the main entrance to Hersheypark
with it s iconic red and white striped mini lighthouse marking the location. The park opened to
the public in 1907 and slowly grew to the park we enjoy today. It continues to grow each year
with new rides added and older rides refurbished or replaced making sure that Hersheypark
continues to please its patrons and continues to live up to its Sweetest Place on Earth reputation.
Hersheypark is in rural Hershey, Pennsylvaniaright outside Harrisburg. It is a beautiful two hour
drive from the Washington D.C. suburbs up route 15 through Gettysburg. Though there are other
local amusement parks that are closer, the drive down 95 to Kings Dominion or up 95 to Six Flags
is often riddled with traffic, especially beach traffic, during the summer months. One downside to

Essay on The Effects of Divorce
The Effects of Divorce
Divorce in our society has become increasingly common. Fifty percent of all marriages will end in
divorce and each year 2 million children are newly introduced to their parents separation, (Monthly
Vital Statistics Report ).
Demographers predict that by the beginning of the next decade the majority of the youngsters
under 18 will spend part of their childhood in single parent families, many created by divorce.
During this confusing period of turmoil and high emotional intensity, the child must attempt to
understand a complex series of events, to restructure numerous assumptions and expectations about
themselves and their world. He or she may be uprooted to a new school, city or neighborhood

The role of the child becomes one of warding off the serious depression that threatens the parents
and holding the parent together. Wallerstein calls these children the overburden child . They
accounted for 15 percent of the children in her study. Many become angry at being trapped by
the parent s demands, at being robbed at their separate identity and denied their childhood. They
are saddened, sometimes beyond repair, at seeing so few of their own needs gratified, (p. 41).
Judith Wallerstein also found that divorce has long lasting psychological effect on many children,
one that in fact, may turn out to be permanent. Children of divorce have vivid memories about
their parens separation. The details are etched permanently in their minds, more than any other
experiences in their lives. She also identified the sleeper effect as another long term implication
of divorce. It is a delayed reaction to an event that happened many years earlier, (p.60). She saw
many young women with acute, delayed depression which she defines as the sleeper effect and
warns of it s danger. It occurs when many young women are about to make decisions that have long
term implications for their lives. Due to the different studies that have been followed out and the
research that I have done, I expect to find many changes in children both short and long term due to
the divorce of their parents. I expect that these long

Nursing A Concept Analysis Paper
Theory can be defined as the explanation of an event in which constructs and concepts are
identified, relationships are proposed and predictions are made; it is a set of interpretative
assumptions, principals or propositions that help explain or guide action. (McEwen Wills, 2014,
p521) Concepts occur in three steps; originating as a thought which are abstract or concrete in
nature, progressing to a stage in which words and meaning are given to the concept, and lastly it is
operationalized becoming a variable to be used tested during research. (McEwen Wills, 2014, p50)
According to McEwen, Wills, (2014), a concept analysis identifies, clarifies and explores the
meaning of concepts in order to promote understanding which aids in the development of
conceptual frameworks, theories and research studies. (p55) Concepts relative to nursing include
quality of life, blood pressure, hope, job satisfaction and pain.

I got very annoyed and was very disturbed when Moore discussed the ordination of women in the
Catholic Church; as well as the discussion about changing the words of the Bible and the Lord s
Prayer. First, Moore discusses feminist liberal movements changing the wording of the Bible:
Proffered gender neutral language, substituting brothers and sisters for brothers, interpreting the
pronoun He as the proper noun God, and using Our Parent instead of Our Father in the Lord s
Prayer (Moore 143). The Lord s Prayer was given to us by Christ in the Gospel of Matthew and the
Gospel of Luke. To turn around and decide you don t like the wording so you re going to change it

There are many advantages to them for example high yield and good eating quality. The farmer
rotates the crop every year as it prevents the build up of potato cyst nematode.
Cultivation practises:
Potatoes need deep and well cultivated soil. Ground left without vegetation on it over the winter
months is susceptible to nitrogen leaching. As a result, ploughing to a depth of 22cm, rotovation
and bed formation occur in spring to produce a fine seedbed. Potatoes are then sown 10 cm below
the ridge by hand. I learned from talking to the farmer that the seeds should be spaced 20 25cm
apart to help with individual growth of the plant.
Establishment:
On my farm the farmer does a soil test before he sows the potato crop. This is to find out the
nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) content of the soil. The farmer then applies a
compound fertilizer such as 10 10 20 to their potato crop before planting the seed. This is done by
broadcasting the fertilizer and then incorporating it into the soil in one of the final cultivations.
Weed control:
Once 15 to 20 per cent of the potato plants have emerged after sowing the potato crop is sprayed
with an herbicide. The contact herbicide kills all plants including the potatoes however the potato
crops will quickly recover. I was told the residual herbicide prevents any weed seeds germinating.

She states that Young s church elders swept through the outlying communities and scrutinized those
who were found lacking (Denton 105). Denton then focuses on the revival of blood atonement, and
how it struck fear in the saints. She points out that Mormons tried to flee after the reformation was
in progress, but were hunted down and killed (Denton, 106). In her book she talks about how the
church had more problems, stating that the church was on the brink of bankruptcy, and with
apostates and internal dissenters at an all time high (Denton 107). Denton uses all of these radical

Working With The Elderly Population
Reminiscing to 2010, when I was faced with my grandmother s illness during the adolescent
years in my life I knew that I had a passion to care for the elderly (aging) population. From this
passion, it ignited a fire so strong that I pursue my certified nursing assistant certification to gain a
better understanding of working with the elderly population. By doing so, it has been a great
benefit to my life; aging is an inevitable experience that we all will go through during our life. It is
important to ensure that our elderly individuals are still able to enjoy the best quality of life after
retirement. However, as we age, there will be a lifestyle change that the aging population must
encounter. Instead of relying on income from previous occupation, the elderly population, income

All Quiet On The Front Line Analysis
The front lines of a battlefield remain to be one of the toughest situations to be on. Everything is
on the line. Your life, the future of your family, and countless other little things to worry about.
Those very brave men who have decided to serve the military have enough to worry about; why
should they have to concern over protecting women when on the front lines? This topic is very
controversial to many people; but it is not right to have the men that fight for our freedom also has
to protect women. That brings the attention of the soldiers to the protection of the womanand not

Jim Conklin exemplifies this trait in battle right before he gets shot. He demonstrates that he
would die for what he believes in and for his country. His actions when similarly, of what he told
Henry what to do in a fight; that he would not run, he would fight with his fellow soldiers till the
end. That is only the beginning of what Henry saw, later in the book he learned from all of this
and took action. At last, when the time comes Henry fights with all of his heart and later he ends
up bearing the flag while marching towards battle. From that point on, Henry learned what it was
like to be a brave protector of his country. This is what it should look like today, a man bearing
arms with his comrades and fighting for the freedom and rights for his country. In today s world,
men are still fighting for our freedom, but alongside with women. Since the early 2000s, women
have started enlisting in the military, and now, according to the Military Times, all restrictions
against women joining the military have been lifted. Since the beginning of times the men have

Informative Research Paper On Dementia
Abstract Dementia is a family of degenerative diseases. It is a health problem compromising the
mental and physical health of it suffers, as well as challenging their quality of life. No cure
exists for this disease. This paper presents predicaments caused by dementia and it s impacts on
mental health, social interactions, abuse, and intelligence. Dementia and Adulthood Dementia
is one of the most feared diseases. Globally, it affects thirty seven million people. The disease
causes cognitive and behavioral decline that lead to permanent, irreversible and degenerative
damage to the brain. The damage is so traumatizing it leads to death. The population most
susceptible to this deadly disease are adults over the age of sixty five. It is forecasted that by the
year 2050, approximately 16 million people will be diagnosed with dementia. Despite the facts,
recently there has been a rise in the number of adults being diagnosed with early onset dementia;
challenging even younger adults to live with this disease longer. To ensure a healthy life for our
population and a quality of life, it is imperative that we find a cure. Until a cure is rendered, many
will suffer indefinitely. Pre senile Dementia Adults younger than sixty five are now being diagnosed
with early onset dementia. This rise is being considered ...a significant clinical and social problem

Jesus as a Figure in History: a Wealth of Information for Those Already Informed
Jesus Christ is one of the most recognizable figures in the modern world. And the legacies of few
people have sparked as many wars, built as many nations, and changed as many individual s lives,
as Jesus of Nazareth. Understandably, scholars and spiritualists alike have striven to answer one
central question, who was this Jesus? To some, He is known as the Son of God, who overcame
death and sin, offering salvation through His resurrection for all who place their faith in him. To
others, He was merely a carpenter from the small town of Nazareth, living in the early years of the
Common Era. And trying to figure out much else about Jesus is one of the most ... Show more

In antiquity, historical thought was not what we would recognize as history today. Those who
lived alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were not concerned so much
with what was but with what ought to have been. They wrote biographies with some sort of pre
conceived posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not
seen as dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories.
But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical
validity of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this
time, various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing
various works, presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw,
which has infected historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery,
they were truly projects. Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical
Jesus movement, that a life of Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis
upon the material that allowed everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm...
[and] exclude material in the Gospels that did not fit with this paradigm... (Powell, 12) Powell takes

What are the techniques or processes involved in mining?
The mining techniques that involved in underground mining are Bord and pillar is the and was
very common in Australian like in NSW. This method uses a grid of tunnels that involves a lot of
cutting panels into a coal seam. While leaving the pillars of coal behind to support the mine.
Longwall mining was introduced and began in the 1960s. Longwall mining uses a mechanical
shearer to cut the coal away although the hydraulic powered holds up and supports roof of the
underground mine. When the coal is removed from the work site, the supports that are on the roof
of the underground mine are moved forward and the roof collapse behind them, which actually can
result in subsidence. Longwall mining are much better than the Bord and pillar. This is because

Research And Management Of Chronic Low Back Pain
Part B Critical Literature Review
Part B of this paper will critically review and compare four articles identified as relevant to the
topic chosen for systematic review proposal. The review will therefore be analysing the research
methods, description of the study, design and significance of findings to the topic of research and
management of chronic low back pain. Further, the review will discuss some strength and
weakness associated with the chosen articles and relevant findings and their implication for
current and future practice. Critical Literature Review has been described as a systematic process
through which the strengths and weaknesses of a research study can be identified (Young 2009).
Such process would assist the reader to appraise and evaluate the study s usefulness and therefore
determine whether its findings could be dependable and be used in clinical practice (Young 2009).
As previously stated, the articles were searched through the UOW Library databases; and the total
of articles identified during search were 148 journal articles, and articles which were not indirectly
meeting the criteria were excluded from this review; and inclusion criterial included studies that

My Day Of School After Winter Break
Numb Toes and Good Times
There are not many things I love more than the smell of pine trees, the cold brisk wind of the
first snowfall, and the joy of Christmas time. I can see myself now, getting released on my last
day of school before winter break. Second grade might not have been a struggle, but a couple
weeks off of school was just what a little me needed. I trudged home through the snow and slush.
The sidewalks were almost non existent in Michigan winters; you had to search for footprints
made by others or risk a rolled ankle. Muddy slush seeped into my snow boots, yet still I had a grin
peeled across my face. This smile was mostly a result of the day approaching, December 25th.
Christmas mostly meant a couple things to me when I was little, presents, candy, and my favorite
vacation out west to the mountains. The Christmas card had already sent out that year, it was all
seven of us; heads morphed onto the Little Rascals characters. At the time this was probably
relatively funny, but now it s pretty much just embarrassing. The poems on the cards were always
the best, I m sure my second grader friends couldn t interpret the jokes my mom wrote, but their
moms would. We would start planning our Christmas cards around September, it was way too
early but I guess it was necessary, to create a comic masterpiece. I never understood how she made
everything rhyme and flow so well, it still amazes me to this day.
When I finally made it home, like clockwork, my mom yelled at me

social stigma for being public about my appreciation for the show. Bussey and Bandura would
suggest that this is a standard practice for fathers reacting more negatively to their son s gender
infractions. For many people, it is hard to see men occupy a feminized space and still see them as
masculine. After discovering the Brony fandom, many people have questions regarding the
sexuality of the fandom such as the following Yahoo Answers post from a concerned parent of a fan:
Well I just created my account, so I can ask this. Yesterday I came home from work early, and I
walked up to my 15 year old sons [sic] room. When I opened it, I saw him with headphones
watching My little pony . He didn t notice me, so I just acted like nothing happened. Could he be
gay, or just likes the show?
Update: Please explain what a brony is. Are they a gay group of men? Or sonthing [sic] else?
Learning that his adolescent son is watching a cartoon about ponies, this parent draws the
conclusion that his child is gay. His assumptions demonstrate how members of society regard
masculine space because enjoying ponies relegates young men into an effeminate position.
Thankfully, there are number of people who answer his question by explaining the fandom to him.

Analysis Of Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer
In the short story called, Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer, the protagonist is dealing with the
complicated relationship between her divorced parents. Ashleigh, the main character, is questioned
by her dad if she can borrow her mom s money for his own problems. Ashes, short for Ashleigh,
like the compliments that she keeps receiving from her dad. Ashes complex relationship with her
parents makes her choose between her mom or her dad. One lesson this story suggests is that no
matter how much you love someone, you have to let them handle things on their own.
In the beginning of the story, the readers can understand that is Ashes talking about her parents.
Her mom is a practical person and always ready for anything, extra batteries for flashlights
during a blackout or extra coins for laundry and her dad on the other hand, is an easygoing,
carefree and willingness to help. In the story it says, ... All I can give you is dreams, Ashes. But
one good dream is worth a thousand flashlight batteries. This provides an explanation of how her
dad can only give her dreams and nothing else. He called her a name that made her feel special,
something her mom did not do, and her mom did not promise things she could not fulfill.
There is a part in the beginning of the story where Ashes, says When I was little, Dad used to
promise me the stars for a necklace, but like most of his promises, that one never quite happened.
This quote explains that he speaks more and is actionless. He has promised her things and
accomplished nothing. If he had bought her a necklace with fake stars, it would make Ashes feel
like her at least cared for her. He did not have to hype her up with hopes and then destroy them by
not fulfilling it.
In the text, Ashes is constantly getting compliments that she does not believe. Her dad calls her a
.. one in a million girl. A name Ashes does not believe she lives up to. Ashes knew that was not
true but did not tell her dad anything because she loves him and does not want to hurt him. Her
father keep on complimenting her, which makes him seem warm and loving. Her father s purchase
of loyalty by the way of compliments came into play when he asks Ashes to take her mother s
money from the teapot

In the past few decades, Christians have gradually and increasingly acknowledged that human
relationship to the natural world should be included in theology. However, this theology has still
enjoyed only limited development and acceptance (Cobb 82). Humanity needs to further its
understanding of itself as an integral constituent of creation, rather than seeing itself as above,
below or outside creation. According to the prophetic tradition of the Hebrew Bible, humanity is an
inextricable part of nature. In the Genesis creation story, God forms humans (adam) from humus
(adamah), making them true earth creatures (Guengerich 15). Because God created all things, all
things in the world are in relationship, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The norm of participation seeks to engage the entire human community in decisions that affect it,
which often requires dismantling the social, political and economic forces that prevent the full
participation of some (Martin Schramm 211). In the Old Testament, the law served as a model for
full participation, making clear that the land s bounty must be used for the welfare of all, including
widows, orphans and aliens (Kaufman 22). Jesus ministry to the outcast and marginalized also
made possible increased participation. He gave attention to Samaritans, women, the poor, the
despised and the diseased, drawing all people into the Reign of God.
Participation sees all forms of life and parts of creation as relevant to justice. Humans may have a
special relationship to God, but the Bible repeatedly describes all creation as intimately affected
by the interactions of God and humanity. The Hebrew scriptures are full of imagery like Hosea
4:1b 3:
There is no faithfulness or loyalty, and no knowledge of God in the land. Swearing, lying, and
murder, and stealing and adultery break out; bloodshed follows bloodshed. Therefore the land
mourns, and all who live in it languish; together with the wild animals and the birds of the air, even
the fish of the sea are perishing.
Humans and other creatures experience the pain together that comes from alienation from God.
Solidarity is the fourth norm of ecojustice, establishing the interdependence of all life forms and

The Human Tissue Act 2008 Essay
Background
Currently in New Zealand the major law regarding the donation of organs is the Human Tissue
Act 2008 introduced by the then labour government s Minister of Health David Cunliffe. The bill
received support from both Labour and National members and in its second reading received 115
votes for and only 3 votes against (while 3 members were not present for the vote) the three votes
against can be attributed to opposition from 3 of the 4 Maori party members due to cultural values
tikanga ДЃ iwi, Mana and Tapu The Human Tissue Act 2008 prohibits the sale and advertisement
of any human tissue which includes organs without written permission at the discretion from
whomever is acting as the Minister of Health. So far the only reported case (of which all
exemptions must be reported in the Gazette) is the paired kidney donation scheme allowing viable
living donors that wish to donate to a family or friend that is incompatible with their kidney to
donate to another who is in the same position. This effectively facilitates a non monetary trade
between two donors to ensure the chosen recipients receive a kidney that will work for them.
Currently a shortage is occurring between the supply of viable organs collected from living donors
and from the deceased and the demand required from those on the waiting list. Organs that can be
provided from living donors include Kidneys, liver segments, some of your lung and Pancreas but

Continuous Auditing is a part of a company s internal control and is not implemented to replace

The Key Areas Separating Bosses From Leaders
By examining the definitions of the words, you ll already be able to notice the intricacies at play.
While at the outset the two words can seem rather similar and interchangeable, the closer
examination highlights differences that give both roles a different meaning. So, what are the key
areas separating bosses from leaders? The major differences between the two can be divided into
six core areas of the focus, the driving force, the approach to work and objectives, the source of their
authority, the communication and delegation style, and their accountability.
The focus
When it comes to an organisation, the key consideration is often the focus of the organisation.
What is it for and why? The underlying focus is what drives an organisation, but also the
individual to perform the required tasks. The focus gives direction and largely determines the
approach to work. So, what is the focus for the two?
For a boss the end objective is profit. A boss is in a role, which is about guaranteeing the
organisation the best financial results that ll help guarantee the continuation of the business. That s
behind the boss interest in supervising things getting done. The boss is not interested in how the
subordinates get from Point A to Point B because the result is all that matters. If you are able to
achieve the goals and do it in an efficient manner, then the boss is happy as this guarantees the
organisation enjoys a profit. The orientation of the boss is about achieving the goals,

Gay Marriage Research Paper
In today s society, there are many stereotypical people that are against gay or lesbian marriage.
Everyone should have the right to decide on who they would like to marry. Gay marriage should
be legal and a non punishable offense because it can prevent teenage suicides, more children will
be adopted, and people will not feel like second class citizens.
If humanity were to accept gay marriage, it would lower and prevent some teen suicides. Most
teens are deciding and revealing what path they are going to take in middle and high school. The
number of suicide attempts among high school students decreased in states where same sex marriage
was legal. The findings covered thirty two states that legalized same sex marriage from 1999 to
2015 (Willingham). All kids have a difficult time coming out to the world, and it causes them not
to feel heard or accepted. When states make it legal more people that do not support it change their
views when they see it is not different from a ordinary couple.
Many teens also feel less accepted by the world when it comes to other kids in their school. Students
that do not support others orientation creates a discomforting environment. Unsafe school
environments prevent LGBT students from reaching their full academic potential (Slater). The

Servant Leadership In Health Care
Servant leadership is a fundamental skill that is of great importance in today s health care system.
Servant leadership allows healthcare workers to effectively conquer challenges and promote
teamwork during stressful situations. Servant leadership requires an individual to have authority
with the people they are leading. It is a complex task to gain authority among people; I believe
that an effective and important way to obtain authority is to show love to others. The book, The
Servant by James C. Hunter describes love not as a feeling, but rather as a behavior or action
towards people. As a leader, one might have good intentions, but without following up with the
intended action, the leader loses authority. The act of love requires having... Show more content on

The Servant (1998) examines this by suggesting that people have a need to be shown they are
important. In order for a leader to build authority, they must respect others and acknowledge their
value as part of the team. According to Robert Greenleaf (as cited in Ramer, 2008, p. 256), a
servant leader must be a servant to others by meeting their needs first in order to become a
servant leader. I believe respecting others, actively listening to others and acknowledging the
importance of those individuals; which are all aspects of respect accomplish this. Appreciative
The book The Servant (1998) suggests that people have a legitimate need to feel appreciated. It
is an underlying requirement that must be met and once someone feels acknowledged, they are
given a sense of empowerment. A leader gains authority by providing these individuals with a
sense of empowerment. I believe a servant leader should acknowledge the work of those being
led, through rewards or praise; which I believe increases individual moral. In order for a leader to
be able to appreciate and acknowledge others they must possess some aspect of humility.

Compare Popes and Swifts Ideas on Reason Essay example
Reason s Significance
One of the most important differences between humans and all other forms of life can be seen in
our ability to think and rationalize our decisions and choices as humans. Without reason, we as
humans would be no different than a cat or dog. God, in his infinite wisdom, blessed man with the
ability to reason, but left it entirely up to us whether or not we choose to use it. Alexander Pope and
Jonathon Swift, two prominent writers of the eighteenth century, take two very different approaches
when it comes to the importance or insignificance of reason. Pope chooses to argue that reason is
the balancing factor in our lives and helps us to achieve the most possible success if we listen to its

He does not seem to think that reason is important at all or at least not to extent that others make it
out to be. The other voyages in Gulliver s Travels seemed strange for obvious reasons such as the
drastic size difference of the inhabitants, but the voyage to Laputa is preposterous based on its sheer
impracticality. He finds it humorous how the inhabitants of the island can be so consumed with
absolutely nothing. They spend their whole lives attempting to figure out seemingly impossible
things. What they are concerned with is abstract thought and nothing that is even close to practical
or concrete. The Laputians are so consumed with not doing anything practical that they even
completely renounce right angles. The absence of right angles only limits them further in their
ability to advance. Swift also makes fun og the inhabitants and their seeming obsession with
language. They seem to take it to the extreme when they assign a certain letter to certain parts of a
machine, but then using different letters or symbols to describe the movements of these parts.
Language is a fundamental element of any civilization, but Swift appears to believe that they are
taking their language too far and he finds it ridiculous. Gulliver even becomes bored with his
conversation with the inhabitants and desires to leave. In turn, the Laputians do not find him very
interesting either and are more consumed with their own mathematics

condemned to live as long as God himself.
Never.
There was a woman among us, a certain Mrs. Schachter. She was in her fifties and her ten year old
son was with her, crouched in a corner. Her husband and two older sons had been deported with the
first transport, by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is hallucinating because she is thirsty, poor woman... That s why she speaks of flames
devouring her... But it was all in vain. Our terror could no longer be contained. Our nerves had
reached a breaking point. Our very skin was aching. It was as though madness had infected all of
us. A few young men forced her to sit down, then bound and gagged her. Silence fell again. The
small boy sat next to his mother, crying. I started to breathe normally. We could begin to doze
again, to rest, to dream... And so an hour or two passed. Another scream jolted us. The woman had
broken free of her bonds and was shouting louder than before: Look at that fire! Look at the

The Odysseus And Wesley Autrey And The Subway Hero
Everyone in a way is a hero, depending on how people see other people determines how highly
they think of them. Our version of a hero in modern times is someone does an action that would
be unheard of, this is common when firefighters do the unthinkable and enter a burning building
often risking their lives to save civilians that are stuck in the building. This is just one example of
what a modern day hero looks like, they appear in everyday life doing actions that help others.
Sometimes people become hero s by Phronesis, translated as practical wisdom. This is the concept
of disembodiment and instinctual know how exhibited by the Odysseus, as well as Wesley Autrey,
better known as the Subway Hero. Odysseus, who is a capable soldier, diplomat, sailor and ruler, in
addition to his other virtues, is the prime example of phronesis. His fast thinking gets his men
out of Polyphemus s cave alive, lets him listen to the Sirens song without going mad. He ensures
that when he does make it home he isn t murdered by his wife s numerous suitors and would be
pretenders to his throne. The disembodiment actions happen all of the time in the world. Wesley
Autrey, the man who saved a seizing man who fell onto train tracks was saved by Wesley when
he laid on top of him underneath the passing train. He said, I don t feel like I did something
spectacular; I just saw someone who needed help, he told the Times. I did what I felt was right. .
He did something that was unthinkable to most

Anxiety happens to everyone, at some point in time. In fact, a little anxiety can actually be good

and home. (www.mayoclinic.com) However, when anxiety becomes so strong that it affects your

(www.nmha.org) GAD affects approximately 6.8 million Americans, or about 3.1% of the
population, between the ages of 18 and 54. (www.helpguide.org) Women are affected almost
twice the number of times as men. Sadly, almost 2/3 of all people with a severe mental illness
never receive treatment. (www.mentalhealth.com) The cost of treating patients with anxiety
disorders (including GAD) are astronomical. According to The Economic Burden of Anxiety
Disorders, a study commissioned by the ADAA and based on data gathered by the association
and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, anxiety disorders cost the U.S. more than
$42 billion a year, almost one third of the $148 billion total mental health bill for the U.S. More
than $22.84 billion of those costs are associated with the repeated use of healthcare services, as
those with anxiety disorders seek relief for symptoms that mimic physical illnesses. People with
an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more
likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than non sufferers. (www.anxietycentre.com)
GAD usually has a slow onset and can begin at any age, although the greatest risk is between
childhood and middle age. The median age for the onset of GAD is 31. (www.nimh.nih.gov) GAD
is a serious mental illness that may affect all facets of one s life. However, there are treatments
available for GAD. The

Difference Between Latin American Spanish
2. Describe a non standard variety of a language with which you are familiar.
The difference between Latin American Spanish (LAS) and Castilian Spanish (CS) is something
that is increasingly prominent in the global Hispanic society. These differences lie in the
grammatical, lexical and phonological features of the two variations of both the variant and the
original form of the language. Latin American Spanish, spoken in countries such as Mexico,
Panama, Chile and Honduras all adopted the Spanish language in the late 15th century and have
since made Latin American Spanish one of the most widely spoken variations of the Spanish
language in the world. It is also worth noting that in Spain there are four different co official
languages within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Spain, both the vosotros and ustedes forms of the verbs are used. Below is an example of the
verb Hablar conjugated in the present tense, which shows the absence of the vosotros form of the
verb in Latin American Spanish (excluding Argentina which, in this case, follows the grammar
rules of Castilian Spanish). CASTILLIAN SPANISHLATIN AMERICAN SPANISH

Figure 1: Verb Hablar Conjugated in the Present tense
For example, to say who are you (pl) talking to? would be ВїCon quiГ©n hablaГs? in Castilian
Spanish and ВїCon quiГ©n hablan? In Latin American Spanish. This can often cause difficulty
when learning the Spanish language. You may become fluent in Madrid, then move to Columbia
only to find that you need to change the way you speak entirely to comply with this variation of the
Spanish language.
Another feature which furthers the difference between Latin American Spanish and Castilian
Spanish is the different lexical features between LAS and CS. Often there can be misunderstandings

Tim Tebow Religious Beliefs
Tim Tebow, Colin Kaepernick, and Kurt Warner are popular outspoken athletes who express their
personal beliefs on the field. Some fans love these athletes expressing their beliefs on the field,
but some of their outspoken beliefs are a distraction. Their expression of beliefs have led to more
athletes making their personal beliefs known, but not every athlete s personal belief on the field are
about religion. The outspoken beliefs of athletes should be banned from professional sports if
sports fans believe it is such a problem, but when they do that they should discourage athletes
from having any sort of tattoo on them. Professional athletes sharing their personal and religious
beliefs on the field, should not be outlawed by sports coaches to express themselves with their
personal belief that include religious tattoos on the field, because professional athletes sharing
their personal and religious beliefs on the field distract fans from the game. One of these popular
athletes is Tim Tebow, acknowledged by many as the greatest player in the history of college
football. Tebow went onto play in the National Football Leaguefor the Denver Broncos and New
York Jets and his popularity provided a platform that he used became expression for his faith.
After being traded by the Denver Broncos in 2012, his number fifteen has become the league s
highest selling jersey. After the Denver Broncos traded Tebow to the New York Jets in early 2012,
Tebow continued to be featured in

  • 2. Rhetoric In Socrates The Gorgias The Gorgias is a dialogue in which Socrates expresses his ideas with others about rhetoric. From the dialogue, it can be argued that the philosopher is a mortal enemy of rhetoric. He condemns it on ethical and epistemic grounds. Socrates argues that rhetoric is not a real knowledge because it is not a legitimate art, and that the teachers of rhetoricare nothing but fraudsters. In addition, he asserts that rhetoric is ethically bankrupt and its main objective is to gratify the ignorant and enhance its experts power to practice it. It tends to manipulate ignorant individuals into believing on imaginative things. Therefore, Socratesargues that it is not real art, because a real art should depict a purified rationalism and knowledge that maintains the changeless good. As a result, Socrates draws a sharp line between rhetoric and real art or knowledge. In his argument with Polus, Socrates seems to provide a level ground for both charges against rhetoric. Socrates asserts that rhetoric is an emperia and a knack based experience. Outcome measurement strategies focus on prevention of slide back by reinforcing the goal, identifying challenges that may lead to barriers to proposed change, and establishing early intervention. For example, Schein (2002) states for new behaviors to last, they must first fit into the personality of the individual or the culture of the group that is being changed. Otherwise, the behavior will be only a temporary adaptation to the pressures of the change situation, and will erode once the change agent has ceased to disconfirm the old behavior (Schein, 2002, p. 39). God is Change. (Butler 25). In Parable of the Sower Octavia Butler introduces the concept of religion through her characters specifically Lauren. In a society that is crumbling, religion is seemed to be the only thing striving. The idea that although society could be falling apart many of the characters either cling to their beliefs, or shy away from them. Laurens creation of Earthseed proves that in a failing society, the concept of religion somehow still survives. In the very beginning of the book Lauren begins to question the idea of God. Since she grew up in a religious setting (her father being a pastor) much of her religious knowledge comes from the church. However, from a very early start Lauren has always begun to question the very principles that were taught to her. In present society, the issues are just beginning. Lauren is in a secluded community, unable to leave because of the unknown dangers outside the walls. It s no surprise she begins to question the principles of God. In the book of Job, God says he made everything and he knows everything so no one has any right to question what he does with any of it. Okay. That works. As a result, ploughing to a depth of 22cm, rotovation and bed formation occur in spring to produce a fine seedbed. Potatoes are then sown 10 cm below the ridge by hand. Working With The Elderly Population Reminiscing to 2010, when I was faced with my grandmother s illness during the adolescent years in my life I knew that I had a passion to care for the elderly (aging) population. From this passion, it ignited a fire so strong that I pursue my certified nursing assistant certification to gain a better understanding of working with the elderly population. By doing so, it has been a great benefit to my life; aging is an inevitable experience that we all will go through during our life. It is important to ensure that our elderly individuals are still able to enjoy the best quality of life after retirement. However, as we age, there will be a lifestyle change that the aging population must encounter. Instead of relying on income from previous occupation, the elderly population, income will fixate, resulting in dependency on their 401k saving plan and other government related programs to assist with activities of daily living. This is why I choose to work with this population, to ensure that dignity, worth, and respect of a person is maintained. However, the aging population should not feel that they are being treated as a burden by the government or their families. In the United States, we undermine our aging population by treating them as though they are not of any value. Understandably, scholars and spiritualists alike have striven to answer one central question, who was this Jesus? To some, He is known as the Son of God, who overcame death and sin, offering salvation through His resurrection for all who place their faith in him. Those who lived alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were not concerned so much with what was but with what ought to have been. They wrote biographies with some sort of pre conceived posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not seen as dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories. But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical validity of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this time, various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing various works, presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw, which has infected historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery, they were truly projects. Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical Jesus movement, that a life of Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis upon the material that allowed everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm... My Day Of School After Winter Break Numb Toes and Good Times There are not many things I love more than the smell of pine trees, the cold brisk wind of the first snowfall, and the joy of Christmas time. I can see myself now, getting released on my last day of school before winter break. Second grade might not have been a struggle, but a couple weeks off of school was just what a little me needed. I trudged home through the snow and slush. The sidewalks were almost non existent in Michigan winters; you had to search for footprints made by others or risk a rolled ankle. Muddy slush seeped into my snow boots, yet still I had a grin peeled across my face. This smile was mostly a result of the day approaching, December 25th. Christmas mostly meant a couple things to me when I was little, presents, candy, and my favorite vacation out west to the mountains. The Christmas card had already sent out that year, it was all seven of us; heads morphed onto the Little Rascals characters. At the time this was probably relatively funny, but now it s pretty much just embarrassing. • 31. Analysis Of Ashes By Susan Beth Pfeffer In the short story called, Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer, the protagonist is dealing with the complicated relationship between her divorced parents. Ashleigh, the main character, is questioned by her dad if she can borrow her mom s money for his own problems. Ashes, short for Ashleigh, like the compliments that she keeps receiving from her dad. Ashes complex relationship with her parents makes her choose between her mom or her dad. One lesson this story suggests is that no matter how much you love someone, you have to let them handle things on their own. In the beginning of the story, the readers can understand that is Ashes talking about her parents. Her mom is a practical person and always ready for anything, extra batteries for flashlights during a blackout or extra coins for laundry and her dad on the other hand, is an easygoing, carefree and willingness to help. In the story it says, ... All I can give you is dreams, Ashes. But one good dream is worth a thousand flashlight batteries. This provides an explanation of how her dad can only give her dreams and nothing else. He called her a name that made her feel special, something her mom did not do, and her mom did not promise things she could not fulfill. There is a part in the beginning of the story where Ashes, says When I was little, Dad used to promise me the stars for a necklace, but like most of his promises, that one never quite happened. This quote explains that he speaks more and is actionless. He has promised her things and accomplished nothing. If he had bought her a necklace with fake stars, it would make Ashes feel like her at least cared for her. He did not have to hype her up with hopes and then destroy them by not fulfilling it. In the text, Ashes is constantly getting compliments that she does not believe. Her dad calls her a .. one in a million girl. A name Ashes does not believe she lives up to. Ashes knew that was not true but did not tell her dad anything because she loves him and does not want to hurt him. Her father keep on complimenting her, which makes him seem warm and loving. However, this theology has still enjoyed only limited development and acceptance (Cobb 82). According to the prophetic tradition of the Hebrew Bible, humanity is an inextricable part of nature. The norm of participation seeks to engage the entire human community in decisions that affect it, which often requires dismantling the social, political and economic forces that prevent the full participation of some (Martin Schramm 211). In the Old Testament, the law served as a model for full participation, making clear that the land s bounty must be used for the welfare of all, including widows, orphans and aliens (Kaufman 22). Jesus ministry to the outcast and marginalized also made possible increased participation. He gave attention to Samaritans, women, the poor, the despised and the diseased, drawing all people into the Reign of God. Participation sees all forms of life and parts of creation as relevant to justice. Humans may have a special relationship to God, but the Bible repeatedly describes all creation as intimately affected by the interactions of God and humanity. The Hebrew scriptures are full of imagery like Hosea 4:1b 3: There is no faithfulness or loyalty, and no knowledge of God in the land. Swearing, lying, and murder, and stealing and adultery break out; bloodshed follows bloodshed. Therefore the land mourns, and all who live in it languish; together with the wild animals and the birds of the air, even the fish of the sea are perishing. The major differences between the two can be divided into six core areas of the focus, the driving force, the approach to work and objectives, the source of their authority, the communication and delegation style, and their accountability. The focus When it comes to an organisation, the key consideration is often the focus of the organisation. What is it for and why? The underlying focus is what drives an organisation, but also the individual to perform the required tasks. The focus gives direction and largely determines the approach to work. God, in his infinite wisdom, blessed man with the ability to reason, but left it entirely up to us whether or not we choose to use it. He finds it humorous how the inhabitants of the island can be so consumed with absolutely nothing. They spend their whole lives attempting to figure out seemingly impossible things. The Laputians are so consumed with not doing anything practical that they even completely renounce right angles. The absence of right angles only limits them further in their ability to advance.
