Economics And The Classical System
1. Economics would be better described by a variation on the term chrematistique rather than our
current discipline s name, which stems from oeconomica because there is a natural way of making
money and the unnatural way of making money. In the book Teachings From The World Philosophy it
states that there are the elements of true wealth but there is also another art of acquisition, which is
commonly and rightly called the art of making money (Heilbroner 8). I believe that there is a merit in
splitting economics into Marginalist and a Classical approach to economics because the classical
system was a circular process between production and consumption and Marginalism is a one way
avenue from production to consumption. If these did not spilt then I believe no one would agree on
anything because they are two different views which also I believe gave us the best possible set up
because it allowed to perspectives for people to think about.
2. Economics did not exist for many centuries still after Aristotle defined the root oeconomica because
in the early portion of civilized life there were only two method; traditional and command. Traditional
was the passage of tasks/jobs, from one generation to the other, which still holds in some under
develop countries and command, which was the enforcement of economic survival by dictatorship.
Both of these worked because they were simple and did not need any economic expansion, which
means there was no need for and

The Engineer Is An Innovator And Creator Of New Products
Having a dream is one thing, but having a strong mentality is another. People dream about being a
petroleum engineer, they dream of this because a petroleum engineer is a high paying job and requires
a lot of math, science, physics, and chemistry. People who love these subject and that are very good at
it, will have no problem being out there and getting dirty. Engineers are people who, by the reason of
their special knowledge and the use of these subjects that are required by education and experience.
An engineer is a problem solver, who applies science and technology to solve the problems and meet
the needs of society. The engineer is an innovator and creator of new products in a practical and
economic fashion. The engineer role is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Key Components Of The Physics Of Basketball
The game of Basketball is a commonly well known sport throughout the world, but many people do
not think about the science portion that has a big role in basketball. There are many key components in
shooting, body movement, where the forces come from to shoot, the potential energy, and the physics
of the shot. Many people only think of basketball as trying to perfect their jump shot, but usually that
is not what the problem is, it is mostly whether or not their eyes and their arms are pointed towards the
hoop. Jumpshot #2 will be most accurate due to the acceleration the player gets as they are trying to
get the shot off therefore gaining more energy and momentum into the arms and into the ball, making
it easier to get the shot off. There are many components to the physics of the game. The horizontal,
and vertical components play a huge part in the physics of basketball, but both play a different role.
The Horizontal component of velocity remains constant throughout the point in which the player
jumps because it is not being affected by gravity. The Vertical component of velocity can determine
how long the basketball player is airborne. Another key component in the Physics of Basketball is
what the ball is made of. Most sports balls are composed of substances that are made of elasticity. The
elasticity of the ball allows it to go back to its original shape after it has been stretched out or if it
comes in contact with something that makes it lose it s original shape or

When thinking about pursuing a career path as a diagnostic medical sonographer the first thing a
student should think about will be your dedication to learning the trade and commitment to an
incumbent of hard work you you will invest in the journey. There are many different technical schools
around for this program, but not all are created equal. Foothill College in Los Altos Hills is a
CAAHEP accredited program that is recognized by major hospitals and clinics nationwide. CAAHEP
(Commision on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) is one of the main reasons
students choose this college over the un accredited programs closer to home. Foothill College has a
remarkable DMS (Diagnostic Medical Sonography) program even though the prerequisites are lengthy
and the entry is extremely competitive, financial hardships, program depth and training being
intensive, but the graduation rate and job placement is unbelievable. As per the Foothill Community

Meriwether Lewis s Suicide
Meriwether Lewis played a vital role in finding Louisiana. He went through a life threatening journey
with William Clark, but it payed off. He became the governor of Louisiana, promoted by Jefferson.
But, on October 11th, 1809, Lewis was gruesomely murdered at the Grinder Inn. His murder has been
ruled a suicide for decades, but as more people investigate this case, it s evident that suicide is not
what happened.
It s impossible Meriwether Lewis would have killed himself. According to the investigation by the
medical examiner (exhibit B), there were two shots taken that ended Lewis life. One shot was to the
back of his head. The bullet got lodged in his brain and caused part of his skull to come off. The
second gun shot was a shot to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Priscilla Grinder was the only witness to Lewis murder. Priscilla was questioned three times, and each
time her story changed. According to exhibit C, in the first account Priscilla stated the alleged suicide
had taken place at 3 am. She said there were two gun shots and Lewis servants had come into his
room. Then, Lewis had asked for water. In the second account, the two gun shots were heard at dusk.
She stated Lewis lived for TWO HOURS after the shots were fired. In the final account, Priscilla said
men had come and called for lodging. Lewis had challenged the men to a duel, but the men declined
and continued down to the next house which was five miles away. Later, there were three gun shots
fired at two or three hours before day. Lewis allegedly knocked on Ms. Grinders door, but she did not
answer. Looking through a crack in the wall, she reported Lewis was crawling across the street on his
hands and knees. As seen in exhibit B, it would ve been impossible for Lewis to survive for long after
these shots were taken. Crawling across the street, living for two more hours after the shots, or simply
asking for water wouldn t have happened. Her accounts changed drastically three times, not one story

How Does Ll Cool J And Ice T s Body Language, Clothing,...
African American Men
African American men have been known for being more violent and less successful than other race.
For instance, African American men who are involved in a gang bang, or that drop out of school are
most likely classified as people who are not serious, and do not have a bright future ahead of them. I
chose these two portraits because one of them, portrait how society sees African American men as
forceful and destructive, and the other portrait shows a successful African American man that society
doesn t pay much attention to. LL Cool J looks very intelligent in his portrait compared to Ice T who
displays himself as a dangerous person. LL Cool J and Ice T are both successful African American
actors and Rappers well known in the entertainment industry. LL Cool J and Ice T s Body language,
clothing, and setting portray them as men who demand respect from people to preserve their manhood.
Kehinde Wiley is known for painting high profile tough African American men to look very powerful
and influence. The two portraits of LL Cool J and Ice T portrayed by Kehinde Wiley in 2005, compare
and contrast as both men expose their strength of manhood through their body language. Both men
look very serious and unpleasant in their portraits. LL Cool J is sitting very comfortable with his legs
crossed in a defensive position on an old green European chair and looking down on people. LL Cool

Morbid Taste For Bones
What do A Morbid Taste for Bones and The Man in the Passage have in common? They are both
mysteries. Although both differ considerably in length, plot complexity, and setting, both accompany a
sacerdotal sleuth as he solves a felonious offense. Despite their label, many doubt if these two
mysteries are gripping enough to entrance the reader into reading the story to the end. What makes a
mystery novel worth reading? Because the word worth is an analogous term, I will state my meaning
to avoid confusion. When I asked what makes a story worth reading, I asked whether the reader
considers it fascinating enough to continue to voluntarily read the book for the sole purpose of
enjoyment. There are many ways that a mystery story can be worth ... Show more content on

By disdaining an omniscient viewpoint, not only does the mystery writer abstain from giving too
much information to the reader too early on, but also allows the conflict to persist however long the
author desires until the climax and resolution at the end of the book. If the mystery writer decided to
either use an omniscient viewpoint or change viewpoints often, it would become increasingly hard for
him to cloak a plausible plot, since doing so would almost inevitably eliminate possible suspects,
pointlessly disrupt the detective s search, and allow the reader to discover information which frankly
the detective would probably never discover for himself. Thus, the single perspective of the detective
is the only one needed. In A Morbid Taste for Bones, the reader only learns what Brother Cadfael
himself learns, and often even less, since sometimes some of Cadfael s major thoughts or actions are
omitted until the resolution of the book in an effort to retain the greatest amount of suspense and
ignorance possible for as long as possible. The Man in the Passage s point of view is very similar,
since the reader is only able to experience what Father Brown experiences. Furthermore, although
Father Brown hints multiple times that he could

Red Bull s Marketing Strategy
Dr. Garett
Topic Red Bull s Marketing Strategy
Thesis How does Red Bull use events in extreme sports to make their product popular around the
world?
Rationale Red Bull is a global player and almost everyone has tried their drink before. But Red Bull
does so much more than just supplying the un energized part of society with the power to get through
the day. The Austrian company is one of the most successful ones when it comes to marketing their
brand even the people that don t enjoy sipping their cool energy drink know that Red Bull gives you
wings .
But what does one do with all the energy you get from drinking a can of Red Bull? What the company
has focused on is sponsoring events celebrating extreme sports and using this buzz as sources for
marketing.
The best example happened on October 14th, 2012, when Felix Baumgartner set a new world record
for the highest sky diving jump. He defied death by jumping from 128,000 feet and flying at a speed
of approximately 850 miles per hour all sponsored by Red Bull.
Researching about this extreme marketing stunt, I realized wanted to analyze how Red Bull uses
marketing, sponsoring and events to create buzz around their product all around the world.

A. Evaluation of health and safety information
1.1 Evaluation of new health and safety legislation, codes of practice and other integral health and
safety updates are the key to a successful safety management system. As I have mentioned in unit 501,
there is no such thing as a health and safety expert, maybe in their specific fields but certainly not in
all areas. This is why at Berwin Industrial Polymers Ltd (BIP) all avenues of information concerning
health and safety information are explored and used.
The main sources of information that I have used as reference points and researched to build the SMS

unfamiliar with the regulation, typing in the problem in the search engine will usually find the

Winston Churchill As A Prime Minister Of England
Sir Winston Churchill is well known for being the Prime Minister of England who led the country
through World War II and played a major role in ending the war. However, it is his internal battles that
give us far more insight into who Churchill really was. His personal struggle, possibly with bipolar
disorder, helped shape history and gave Churchill the strength to win the war. The periods of highs and
lows seen throughout Churchill s life indicate the he may have been struggling with Bipolar Disorder
(Type II). Winston Churchill himself has even said that he suffered from the black dog of depression
over the course of his life (Rubin, 2003). However, given his periods of hyperactivity it s very likely
that Churchill was actually battling bipolar II disorder. Instead letting his mental disorder control him,
Churchill overcame his bipolar disorder, and used this inspiration to lead his nation out of war.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (the DSM V),
Bipolar II disorder is characterized by a clinical course of recurring mood episodes consisting of one
or more major depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode. During the mood episode(s),
the requisite number of symptoms must be present most of the day, nearly every day, and represent a
noticeable change from usual behavior and functioning (APA, 2013). Essentially, Bipolar II Disorder
is characterized by hypomanic and depressive episodes throughout a person s

Jane Austen s Mansfield Park
Jane Austen s Novel, Mansfield Park, published in 1814, has caught the eyes of many readers after
being published. It had many different themes that depict different aspects of a society.
The focal point of this novel is on a character named Fanny Price, who is conflicted from two different
societies. At the beginning of the story, Fanny heads off to live with the Bertrams family. As she is
living with the Bertrams, she encounters another family who has different perspectives on life and
morals
Published in 1814, Jane Austen s novel Mansfield Park caught the eyes of many readers. This novel
focuses on the character Fanny Price. She is faced to experience two opposing societies. From the
beginning of the story, she is headed off to live with the Bertrams in Mansfield Park and then she finds
herself in an opposing society of the Crawfords. These two opposing societies are shown differently
by differing their morals. With seeing how these two different societies differ from each other, makes
this novel an interesting reading to see the transition from the Romantic era to the Victorian era.
As the story places its focus on Fanny Price who is considered to be the main character, she is
considered to be the heroine of Mansfield Park. Fanny Price is the eldest daughter of a mother from a
wealthy family but her mother chose to marry for love and is dealing with living in poverty with her

Research On Hydration Stations On College Campuses

this email I would take advantage of it to see what college or universities took part in this. In the body
of my email that I sent was the following: I am researching hydration stations used on college

Eastern Hemisphere And Its Impact On The Development Of...
Between Two Regions The millennium from 1000 to 1500 C.E. changed significantly from the past
eras that have been studied before. Sizable regions such as Africa and the Mediterranean Basin
dominated the eastern side of our world. From incredible advancements in agricultural technology and
extensive trade networks, to the complex social classes and religious values, the eastern hemisphere
influenced the development of all societies. Agriculture was such a prominent part in every
civilization since the beginning of time. It was a way for humans to be one with their land for it gave
them means to survive. As agriculture became much more recognized in Africa, cultivators and
herders displaced many of the hunting, gathering and fishing peoples who previously inhabited
Saharan Africa. (Bentley,384) With the progression of new technology; iron axes, adzes, and hoes
were created, and revolutionized agriculture on their land. The introduction of bananas from sea lanes
became popular in Africa and increased the supply of food that was available. Likewise for Medieval
Europe, cultivation on Europe grounds allowed more room for agricultural techniques, the utilization
of developed tools and technologies, and the institution of new crops. Similar to Africa, population
pressure rose and space for more agriculture became necessary. Beans were important to the diets of
Europeans as were the bananas to African diets. They also dug ponds to raise fish which in turn led to

Muscle Protein Synthesis Essay
Introduction:
In recent years, interest has sparked the health industry to research protein consumption after exercise
to optimise muscle growth. Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS) is not only an appealing topic for
bodybuilders, it is also beneficial to those over 60 years of age who may have experienced muscle
mass loss over time. A decrease in muscle mass does not only lead to a decrease in overall strength but
also makes daily movement severely painful, leading to a poor quality of life. All individuals can
benefit from increasing muscle protein synthesis via an increased protein intake after resistance
training. This will aid in maintaining muscle mass, strength and overall health (Wolfe, 2012).
Review of Research Studies:
Increasing muscle protein synthesis is crucial for the health of individuals over the age of 60. A study
conducted by Dr. Ryan Andrews shows that a change in daily protein intake can impact the building of
lean muscle mass. Participants between the age of 60 and 69 underwent a 12 week resistance training
regime and were given a post exercise protein drink after each session. Results showed a substantial
increase in lean muscle mass over the 12 week program for both males and females. Nevertheless,
results indicated those that had consumed a daily diet high in protein had comparable increases of lean
muscle mass as those with a daily diet low in protein. This indicates that it did not matter how much
protein was consumed daily, but the post exercise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Trickling Filters
Trickling filters are one of the oldest types of biological filters. They have a simple design in which
media is placed in a container that has a partially open bottom so water drains out [45]. The biofilter
container can be constructed of a variety of materials, including plastic, wood, glass, metal, concrete,
or any other nontoxic substance. The size of the biofilter directly determines the carrying capacity of
fish in the system. Larger biofilters have a great ammonia assimilation capacity and can support
greater fish production [43].
From the fish tank water with high ammonia flows into the trickle filter. Since a water trickles are
down over the media, the large surface area and oxygen from the atmosphere allow nitrification
bacteria to oxidize ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. Afterwards, the water exits the trickle filter with
much reduced ammonia content (see Figure 11) [36].
Trickling filters are rugged and easy to operate. They have the ability to treat a wide variety of nutrient
levels (see Figure 11). One of the big advantages of a trickling filter is that the water can leave with
more oxygen than it entered. Because trickling filters have a large air water interface, they also act as
strippers to remove CO2, H2S, N2 or other undesirable volatile gasses. The other advantages of trickle
filter are low maintenance, self aerating, moderate capital cost and medium head application. The only
major drawback of trickling filters is the energy cost required to pump the

The Anzacs And The Development Of Nationalism In Australia...
The ANZACs were a significant influence in the development of nationalism in Australia during
World War One (WWI). Throughout WWI, Australian formed the fundamentals of the now universally
recognised Australian identity. The ANZACs played a crucial role in the establishment of a mixture of
both cultural and triumphal nationalism as Australia s exposure to other cultures during WWI saw
them no longer recognised as an extension of Britain but an independent group of competent men and
women that could equal their Commonwealth forefathers in the war effort. Thus, forming a distinct
identity and sense of nationalism that s significance, decades after WWI, remained strongly associated
with the WWI ANZACs.
Nationalism is seen to have two origins. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem On the landing of Our Troops at Gallipoli by Joan Torrace, composed after the end WWI,
demonstrated a sense of nationalism when reflecting upon Australia equalling its forefather in the war
effort: Australia! ... all nations hail thee now . The poem depicts the British and Australia flags both of
equal size and focus. The poem states: hoist the ... union Jack ... and let the Southern Flag wave gaily
side by side. This poem show the authors connection between the events of WWI and seeing Australia
as an equivalent individual to Britain supporting the impact on WWI on Australia s nationalism. A
photograph depicts the Queen among her family commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Gallipoli
landing in the ANZAC parade demonstrating the British leaders respect for Australia fuelled by the
devotion of ANZACs in WWI. Finally, nationalism is still minutely evident in modern society on
cultural outlets. The popular song, We Didn t Start The Fire by Billy Joel devotes a sizeable proportion
of lyrics to American achievements, successful sportsmen, political leaders and references to mores
negative events of other countries. For example the song mentions America s first women in space:
sally ride, the American discovery of the polio vaccine and the violent and devastating separation of
north and South Korea.

The Pros And Cons Of The Civilian Conservation Corps
The Great Depression, pulled the American economy to its all time low. The government mitigated the
depression with several methods. When the stock market collapsed, people started losing their jobs
and then their homes to the banks. People were desperately searching for jobs even if it s terrible, until
the government formed the CCC. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was formed to provide
hope and dignity to young American citizens and their future generations.
The CCC was designed to garner trust from the people by giving them hope and jobs, which required
repairing the damaged land. To avoid another environmental disaster, their primary work was to plant
trees, as some people relied on their land to feed themselves. President Roosevelt saw a perfect
solution to solve the two problems; he saw the barren land that needed to be replanted and the
desperate men who could to the job. The CCC would initially hire a quarter of a million of young men
(Roosevelt 5). To the masses, this idea of putting people back into action and earn a living for them
and for their families gave hope to the future of America.
The requirements to join the program would easily qualify most young men of different races. An
enrollee had to be an American citizen man that is 18 to 25 years of age who was unemployed and
willing to work a dollar a day for a span of six months (Hammond 9). Then, after six month they
could re enlist, which gave them confidence that they could survive through the

Many people who view Chicago as a bad city, because of all the crime and murder rate, which is why

Short Summary of the Great Gatsby
Biography of F. Scott Fitzgerald
About F. Scott Fitzgerald
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, the only son of an aristocratic father
and a provincial, working class mother. He was therefore the product of two divergent traditions:
while his father s family included the author of The Star Spangled Banner (after whom Fitzgerald was
named), his mother s family was, in Fitzgerald s own words, straight 1850 potato famine Irish. As a
result of this contrast, he was exceedingly ambivalent about the notion of the American dream: for
him, it was at once vulgar and dazzlingly promising. It need scarcely be noted that such fascinated
ambivalence is itself typically American.

Fitzgerald s own divided nature can be seen in the contrast between the novel s hero, Jay Gatsby, and
its narrator, Nick Carraway. The former represents the naive Midwesterner dazzled by the possibilities
of the American dream; the latter represents the compassionate Princeton gentleman who cannot help
but regard that dream with suspicion. The Great Gatsby may be described as the most profoundly
American novel of its time; Fitzgerald connects Gatsby s dream, his Platonic conception of himself,
with the aspirations of the founders of America.
A year later, Fitzgerald published a collection of short stories entitled All the Sad Young Men. This
book marks the end of the most productive period of Fitzgerald s life; the next decade was full of
chaos and misery. Fitzgerald himself began to drink excessively, and Zelda began a slow descent into
madness. In 1930 she suffered her first mental breakdown; her second breakdown, from which she
never fully recovered, came in 1932.
Throughout the 1930s the Fitzgeralds fought an ultimately unsuccessful battle to save their marriage.
This struggle was tremendously debilitating for Fitzgerald; he later said that he left [his] capacity for
hoping on the little roads that led to Zelda s sanitarium. He did not finish his next novel, Tender Is the
Night, until 1934. It is the story of a psychiatrist who marries one of his patients, who, as she slowly
recovers, exhausts his vitality until he is a man used up. This book, the

Haggai And Zechariah Research Paper
Haggai and Zechariah are complementary prophets of the postexilic period (HW 678). Haggai urged
the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the temple of God while Zechariah called for spiritual renewal
among God s people. During the time of Haggai a decree was issued allowing conquered peoples who
were deported by the Babylonians to return to their homelands. During this time the first group of
emigrants returned to Jerusalem. Scripture states in Haggai 1:7 8, Thus says the Lord of hosts:

His task was to prepare the people for proper worship and temple service once the building project

states in Zechariah 4:6, This is the word of the Lord:.... Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,
says the Lord of hosts . The Lord is showing the people that it is only through Him that the temple will
be finished and ready for worship. At this time the people were guilty of the same covenant violations
as the generation that was sent into exile. The Lord sent Zechariah to offer the people a solution to
their problems of sin and rebellion by genuinely repenting and returning to God. God knew that only
spiritual renewal could foster true worship and meaningful service in the temple once it was finished
(HW 691). Zechariah s encouragement took many forms including a series of visions and repeated
reference to the words of former prophets. Zechariah s visions reminded the people that God cared for
them and all that they were struggling with. Zechariah s messages from the Lord were full of hope
confirming that the Lord was continuing His covenant with them and was not going to forsake them.
The prophet Zechariah was the cheerleader for the completion of the temple that Haggai had the
people start to rebuild. Haggai got the physical building of the temple started while Zechariah was the

contemporary age women got many opportunities in all field, even though women face many struggles
in their life. Throughout history, young women have been scrutinized with regard to their attitudes,

on behalf of the Indian women. A close reading of British literature up to 19th century reveals that
social issues and challenges faced by women form a part of it but they were represented by male
writers, the validity of which is ambiguous. Women s literature which Jane Austen gave rise in true

Stephenie Meyer Influence On Religion

The nurse has to do research in order to know which method would be the best for each patient, and to
learn all the new strategies to keep the patients comfortable. The nurse s knowledge is also up to date
on all the kinds of new equipment such as mattresses that help prevent the patient from getting
bedsores. The nurse is aware that the only physical pain that is hard to treat and control is neuropathic,
this is determined through research. The nurse has gained knowledge through their own person
understanding and empath which is part of Carper s (1978) ways of knowing through their experience
of when their own grandfather was a patient before they were in palliative care. They had an
experience that they would never want a family to go through when their loved one is dying. Through
this experience it made the nurse want to go into palliative care so they could use their new knowledge
to try their best to make a family with a dying loved one witness a good death . The nurse uses
knowledge and attitudes built by an ethical framework. The nurse listens to what the patients want
allowing them to be in control of their life, respecting their life, and doing what is right for the patient
s well being. The nurse knows what the patient wants in order to die a good death even if it means
stopping treatment so that there is no more pain but possibly a shorter life span. The nurse shows
knowledge through the awareness of the immediate situation and the awareness of the patient and their

My Experience On A Boat Ride To Catalina Island
One of my greatest field trips ever was on a boat ride to Catalina Island. It consisted of a three day
overnight trip to the beautiful Island. My Dad and I woke up at 4:35 in the morning just to get to
school on time to load up the bus. On the way to school, my dad and I stopped at three different stores
to make sure we had enough food, and supplies for the boat ride. I was tired, but super excited! Once
we arrived at school, we immediately started packing up the bus. Everyone looked like they just got
drug out of the bed by their parents, just to come to another regular, boring day of school. I think I was
the only one who was really excited; except for my Dad of course. Once the bus was completely
packed with all our supplies, we all used the restroom, then hopped on the bus. As we drove down the
freeway, my classmates and I played fun games like: I Spy and truth or dare. When we arrived in Long
Beach, my friends and I decided to skip rocks by throwing the rocks into the water. Unfortunately, we
got reprimanded by the person who worked there. That embarrassment did not last long because of the
exciting adventure ahead. I was surprised to see how wrong I was about the type of boat that we
would be taking. All along, I thought we were going to be taking an old wooden boat like those in the
old movies. Thankfully, I became pleasantly surprised when I saw a modern motor boat. Suddenly, the
engine turned on, and I was afraid for our lives. The woman driving sped the whole way there. It was
a long and bumpy ride. After safely making it to Catalina Island, I wanted to hurry and throw on my
swim trunks so that I could jump in the clear beautiful water. The water was so clear, that I could see
fish brushing against my legs. As we stepped off of the boat and followed our camp leader, we sat

The Legend About The Vampires And Their Secret Life
The legend about the vampires and their secret life is one that keeps on frightening and
captivate the audience around the world. The thought of an undead night stalker that nourishes
on human blood has been around for quite a long time and perseveres right up till modern days.
The image of the immortal creature has perfectly fitted into the modern popular culture. Various
nations and societies over the globe have individual deviations of a comparative folkloric
substance. Regardless of the variety, all vampire stories have a key shared characteristic the
desire for human blood and immortality. It was not until the late XIX century that an Irish writer
agreed an expansiveness of learning on such folkloric stories and devised the character that now
goes about as the format for the vampire myth. Bram Stoker s Dracula was initially distributed in
1897 and starting now and into the foreseeable future the author s title character set the point of
reference for every single anecdotal vampire. Vampire fiction, in any case, keeps on developing
and enrapture in spite of the way that it draws from a limitless folkloric and scholarly past.
Humankind has dependably been intrigued with the charm of immortality and albeit initially
vampires were not an image of this, as time passed and society changed so did the thoughts and
discernments encompassing them.
The human interest with vampires has been a noticeable swaying topic in popular culture.

affected throughout it. The film portrays the American Revolution primarily from the bias of the Pro
Revolutionists, illustrating the horrors of living through the war, while giving a more simplistic view
of certain aspects of life in the colonies during that time period. The film depicts the British as being
gullible. In the film, there is a scene where Benjamin Martin, the leader of a militia, meets with
Cornwallis to negotiate the release of approximately 18 of his men. Martin fools Cornwallis into
believing that several scarecrows dressed in British uniforms are his soldiers being held captive. In an
earlier scene, Martin s men dressed in those same British uniforms to disguise themselves in order to
sneak onto and blow up one of Cornwallis ships. The film uses the scenes listed above to give the
audience the perspective that the British could be naïve and easily misled. According to the text book,

Disadvantages Of Urbanization Of Indonesia
Concentration of economic activities in the city resulted in a mass of people flocked to the city in the
hope of improving their quality of life through economic improvement. As a result, the level of
urbanization continues to climb rapidly from year to year, including in Indonesia. Although the high
rate of urbanization brought about numerous positive impacts, it also has its share of disadvantages as
well, such as uncontrolled urban growth and unplanned urbanization (Arriaga and Beyer 1968; Bolay
2006). Currently more than half of Indonesia s population live in urban areas and the proportion are
projected to continue to grow in the future. By 2015, the urban population in Indonesia has reached
more than half (53.3%), and is expected to continue to increase every year until it is predicted to reach
68% in 2025 (Badan Pengembangan Statistik 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, urbanization has implications for housing and settlement, which is the increasing need for
decent and affordable houses, and the increasing need for basic services and settlement management
system. In addition, the natural population growth in urban areas lead to increasing density of
settlements (Asoka, Bunyasi, and Thuo 2013) and the changing needs of houses for urban households.
Nevertheless, due to the limited amount of land available and the high price of land in urban areas,
many people especially marginal communities, occupy housing with inadequate basic infrastructure,
lack access to sanitation and water provision (Neekhra, 2008). As a result, urban slums are emerging
as the place for the underprivileged to live, specifically in developing countries which fail to provide
slum residents with proper hygiene facilities, food, clothing and

Arek Hersh And The Holocaust
The word Holocaust comes from the origin Sacrifice by Fire . Living up to the name, the Holocaust
occurred because Germans believed they were racially superior to Jews and felt their race was a threat
to the European society. Adolf Hitler, the Chancellor of Germany, ordered that all Jews be killed. This
began a mass genocide of six million Jews. The deceased were worked to death in labor camps or
gassed, burned, or tortured in concentration camps. By the time the killings stopped in 1945, the
Jewish population had dwindled to just three million survivors. One of those survivors was Arek
Hersh, a Polish citizen. When Poland was attacked in 1939, Arek s family left everything behind as
they fled persecution. After spending nearly seven devastating ... Show more content on

They were forced to leave all their whole lives behind them and walk 40 miles to stay with relatives in
Lodz. One year later they made the Jews wear the Star of David and were forced into ghettos,
crammed and poor living conditions. Later on, his father and older brother were chosen to go to a
different camp and escaped form leaving causing Arek to go instead. At eleven years old, Arek was
taken to Otoschno, leaving his family behind, where he survived by stealing food while cleaning the
camp commander s office. In 1942, he was sent back to Lodz ghetto and upon his arrival many people
asked about his relatives, not being able to tell the truth about all the pain, he told them everyone was
working. In August, the Nazis liquidated the ghetto causing 400 people to assemble in a church. They
were put in the left like for working people and the other side non working; he was put on the right but
ran to the working side causing him to survive. He later found out the non working were sent to gas
chambers. Arek and the other 150 survivors were taken to Lodz. The commander of the ghetto wanted
for 10,000 children to be handed over. Arek knew he fell into that category so he managed to hide
from the SS officers where as the other children were sent to gas chambers. In 1944, the Germans
once again liquidated the ghetto because the Russian army was approaching. The remaining survivors

The bulk of the trade is still controlled very well by one party. Consolidation abbreviated Although
many companies have flirted with the idea of consolidation, few major companies of top 7 10
performers have made any meaningful headway towards consolidation via mergers. Maritime culture
is heavily steeped in neoclassical model of economics, and the utilitarian ultra capitalist teachings of
Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman. Basically it has become a null point for powerful companies to work
towards consolidation since they have natural business advantages already fixed in place. APM
Maersk When interpreting the figures it is key to remember that the top carrier of goods is APM
Maersk, holding 15 16% of the market. Lack of regulation and corporate governance has been
elemental to creating a managerial culture that is not in accordance with cost share, product
differentiation, or business regulation/taxation. Proposed solutions abbreviated In order to create a
culture that will be more open to consolidation, small companies who have more stake to gain than
lose should form mergers in order to prove the validity of mergers. Introduction The shipping industry
sustains an approximate 90% of global trade products, such as raw materials, finished products and
other essential goods. 55% of global trade is transacted via container ships. Examples of precious

Exploring the Concept of Satire in A Modest Proposal by...
A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and Top of the Food Chain by T. Coraghessan Boyle, both are
short stories that explore the concept of satire. Satire can be defined as a kind of writing that ridicules
human weakness, vice, of folly in order to bring about social reform. It is a kind of writing to bring
about change to society. Even though both are short stories, they easily get the faults of society across
to its readers. In A Modest Proposal, Swift is offering an outrageous solution to the problems of
human misery. He proposes that people should start eating babies, and using them for everything that
they are worth on a daily basis. Swift creates a pamphlet and states six reasons as to why this is a
brilliant idea. He states that money wouldn t be wasted on food, the number of Catholics would be
reduced, it would be great inducement to marriages, there would be more food so the economy would
increase, poor tenants would have money for their landlords, and it would be an improvement for the
tavern business. Swift wants everyone to know how badly the Irish people are being treated by the
English. He wants to change the reader s point of view through this sarcastic satirical pamphlet. The
authors purpose of A Modest Proposal, is to try to change society. Swift is trying to reform the British
official s involvement in Ireland. People are dying, and nothing is being done about it. He is trying to
shock readers with a twisted story, but also bring about change

The Effects Of Child Poverty
There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more
important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives
are free from fear and want and that they can grow up in peace (Kofi Annan). Children are like
flowers. They must be loved, protected, and nourished in order to bloom. If they lack any of these
essentials, they are most likely going to suffer and die without being able to serve their purpose. There
is this universal hope that all children will flourish in life; however, there are certain circumstances
that draw a line between the fortunate and unfortunate. In this case, the factor that dictates their future
is their status in society, such as having the leisure of being able to attend facilities that aren t available
to others. Poverty in children has numerous psychological, physical and mental effects and well being.
Based on the context that the children operate within their social and academic forte, poverty affects
the children unfavorably in numerous distinct ways. Children living in poverty are often denied access
to basic needs and proper living conditions for healthy growth and development. As such, the
insufficiency or dearth of the needs affect their lives in a great way that constrain their normal growth
to become productive people in the world.
In the United States, child poverty has been a severe issue even when the country was established.

King Jr Dream
Martin Luther King Jr.: Who Was He? If you can t fly, then run, if you can t run, then walk, if you can
t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward. ( King ) This quote is true
because if we never move forward and only go back or stay put, then we never achieve our goals in
life. I believe that we need to live out this quote of Martin Luther King. He had a dream and his dream
inspired many, encouraged peace, and we, as students, teachers, and parents, still play a role in living
out his dream in our lives today. There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe,
nor political, nor popular, but he must take it because his conscious tells him it s right. is a quote I
believe Dr. King lived by most of his life. He was bullied as a kid because of his race and skin color,
but he always pulled through. As he got older, he became an inspiration in the colored community. He

Psychoanalytic Techniques In Tim Burton s Films
Tim Burton Stylistic Essay
Tim Burton is a director that uses an excellent assortment of stylistic techniques. Many authors and
directors use a pattern of style traits, however, Tim Burton s traits are probably the most noticeable
when watching his movies compared to other movies made by different directors. Tim Burton is the
man who made the movies Edward Scissorhands, Vincent, Alice In Wonderland, and The Nightmare
Before Christmas, all movies that depict a dark and eerie tone. Tim Burton repeatedly uses the stylistic
techniques that connect the movies and make a dark, gentle horror and child like tone, such as
costumes/makeup that cast an appearance different than what most others would make a person or
thing look like, characters that are child like and essentially innocent, imagery is also used to portray
the dark, along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You will notice that most of the characters that are people have the same traits: pale skin, dark circles
under their eyes, light hair or blonde and are white or probably from European decent. This is seen in
Edward Scissorhands, when you first see Edward you notice his pale white skin and the ghostly dark
circles under his doe eyes. If it weren t for Edward s doe brown eyes, you would have assumed he was
dead. All of these characteristics, except for the doe eyes, make the characters in Tim Burton s films
look like corpses which gives the gentle horror tone. The doe eyes are what gives Edward a sense of
child like innocence that expresses the main tone in this movie. You will recognize some of these same
characteristics in Alice In Wonderland. In this movie, everyone in the real world is white, pale, blonde
or brown hair, never black or black hair, they also have the dark circles under their eyes. In Alice In
Wonderland, you wouldn t be able to tell Alice from the rest by how she looks, it is more how she
talks, which is more under the category of

Essay on The Sinking of the Lusitania
The Sinking of the Lusitania On the 7 May 1915 at 14:30, then 240 metre long and 27 meter wide ship
the Lusitania sunk to the sea bed. Despite the fact that so many were killed, 1,195 people, this ship has
not become one of history s most well known vessels, unlike the Titanic. This is due to the fact that
the Lusitania was sunk by the Germans during the First World War. The Lusitania and her sister ship,
the Mauretania, were built by John Brown CO Ltd in Glasgow for the purpose of winning back the
Blue Riband, an award to ships crossing the Atlantic ocean in the quickest time. *

Ships that came later, the Titanic included, could only reach speeds of 22 knots, however in these
cases speed was compromised by concentrating more on comfort and luxury; perhaps more
importantly the Lusitania was built for use in war. The Lusitania left Liverpool on the 7 September
1907 on her maiden voyage to Queenstown and New York. Approximately 200 000 people had
gathered to see her offmänniskor, despite the fact the ship had been built to win the Blue Riband back
from the German ship Deutschland it was not until the Lusitania s second journey that the record was

raised the flag of the United States hoping to reduce the risk as America had not yet joined the war.

  • 2. Economics And The Classical System 1. Economics would be better described by a variation on the term chrematistique rather than our current discipline s name, which stems from oeconomica because there is a natural way of making money and the unnatural way of making money. In the book Teachings From The World Philosophy it states that there are the elements of true wealth but there is also another art of acquisition, which is commonly and rightly called the art of making money (Heilbroner 8). I believe that there is a merit in splitting economics into Marginalist and a Classical approach to economics because the classical system was a circular process between production and consumption and Marginalism is a one way avenue from production to consumption. If these did not spilt then I believe no one would agree on anything because they are two different views which also I believe gave us the best possible set up because it allowed to perspectives for people to think about. 2. Economics did not exist for many centuries still after Aristotle defined the root oeconomica because in the early portion of civilized life there were only two method; traditional and command. Traditional was the passage of tasks/jobs, from one generation to the other, which still holds in some under develop countries and command, which was the enforcement of economic survival by dictatorship. Both of these worked because they were simple and did not need any economic expansion, which means there was no need for and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Key Components Of The Physics Of Basketball The game of Basketball is a commonly well known sport throughout the world, but many people do not think about the science portion that has a big role in basketball. There are many key components in shooting, body movement, where the forces come from to shoot, the potential energy, and the physics of the shot. Many people only think of basketball as trying to perfect their jump shot, but usually that is not what the problem is, it is mostly whether or not their eyes and their arms are pointed towards the hoop. Jumpshot #2 will be most accurate due to the acceleration the player gets as they are trying to get the shot off therefore gaining more energy and momentum into the arms and into the ball, making it easier to get the shot off. There are many components to the physics of the game. The horizontal, and vertical components play a huge part in the physics of basketball, but both play a different role. The Horizontal component of velocity remains constant throughout the point in which the player jumps because it is not being affected by gravity. The Vertical component of velocity can determine how long the basketball player is airborne. Another key component in the Physics of Basketball is what the ball is made of. Most sports balls are composed of substances that are made of elasticity. The elasticity of the ball allows it to go back to its original shape after it has been stretched out or if it comes in contact with something that makes it lose it s original shape or ... When thinking about pursuing a career path as a diagnostic medical sonographer the first thing a student should think about will be your dedication to learning the trade and commitment to an incumbent of hard work you you will invest in the journey. There are many different technical schools around for this program, but not all are created equal. Foothill College in Los Altos Hills is a CAAHEP accredited program that is recognized by major hospitals and clinics nationwide. CAAHEP (Commision on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) is one of the main reasons students choose this college over the un accredited programs closer to home. • 7. Meriwether Lewis s Suicide Meriwether Lewis played a vital role in finding Louisiana. He went through a life threatening journey with William Clark, but it payed off. He became the governor of Louisiana, promoted by Jefferson. But, on October 11th, 1809, Lewis was gruesomely murdered at the Grinder Inn. His murder has been ruled a suicide for decades, but as more people investigate this case, it s evident that suicide is not what happened. It s impossible Meriwether Lewis would have killed himself. According to the investigation by the medical examiner (exhibit B), there were two shots taken that ended Lewis life. One shot was to the back of his head. The bullet got lodged in his brain and caused part of his skull to come off. The second gun shot was a shot to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Priscilla Grinder was the only witness to Lewis murder. Priscilla was questioned three times, and each time her story changed. According to exhibit C, in the first account Priscilla stated the alleged suicide had taken place at 3 am. She said there were two gun shots and Lewis servants had come into his room. Then, Lewis had asked for water. In the second account, the two gun shots were heard at dusk. She stated Lewis lived for TWO HOURS after the shots were fired. In the final account, Priscilla said men had come and called for lodging. Lewis had challenged the men to a duel, but the men declined and continued down to the next house which was five miles away. Later, there were three gun shots fired at two or three hours before day. Lewis allegedly knocked on Ms. Grinders door, but she did not answer. Looking through a crack in the wall, she reported Lewis was crawling across the street on his hands and knees. As seen in exhibit B, it would ve been impossible for Lewis to survive for long after these shots were taken. For instance, African American men who are involved in a gang bang, or that drop out of school are most likely classified as people who are not serious, and do not have a bright future ahead of them. I chose these two portraits because one of them, portrait how society sees African American men as forceful and destructive, and the other portrait shows a successful African American man that society doesn t pay much attention to. LL Cool J looks very intelligent in his portrait compared to Ice T who displays himself as a dangerous person. • 10. Morbid Taste For Bones What do A Morbid Taste for Bones and The Man in the Passage have in common? They are both mysteries. Although both differ considerably in length, plot complexity, and setting, both accompany a sacerdotal sleuth as he solves a felonious offense. Despite their label, many doubt if these two mysteries are gripping enough to entrance the reader into reading the story to the end. What makes a mystery novel worth reading? Because the word worth is an analogous term, I will state my meaning to avoid confusion. When I asked what makes a story worth reading, I asked whether the reader considers it fascinating enough to continue to voluntarily read the book for the sole purpose of enjoyment. There are many ways that a mystery story can be worth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By disdaining an omniscient viewpoint, not only does the mystery writer abstain from giving too much information to the reader too early on, but also allows the conflict to persist however long the author desires until the climax and resolution at the end of the book. If the mystery writer decided to either use an omniscient viewpoint or change viewpoints often, it would become increasingly hard for him to cloak a plausible plot, since doing so would almost inevitably eliminate possible suspects, pointlessly disrupt the detective s search, and allow the reader to discover information which frankly the detective would probably never discover for himself. Thus, the single perspective of the detective is the only one needed. In A Morbid Taste for Bones, the reader only learns what Brother Cadfael himself learns, and often even less, since sometimes some of Cadfael s major thoughts or actions are omitted until the resolution of the book in an effort to retain the greatest amount of suspense and ignorance possible for as long as possible. Research Paper On Red Bull Katharina Ohmstedt 1179_BERKC_SAB_4410_SECNA NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT December 13th, 2017 Research Paper Red Bull s Marketing Strategy Dr. Garett Topic Red Bull s Marketing Strategy Thesis How does Red Bull use events in extreme sports to make their product popular around the world? Rationale Red Bull is a global player and almost everyone has tried their drink before. But Red Bull does so much more than just supplying the un energized part of society with the power to get through the day. The Austrian company is one of the most successful ones when it comes to marketing their brand even the people that don t enjoy sipping their cool energy drink know that Red Bull gives you wings . But what does one do with all the energy you get from drinking a can of Red Bull? What the company has focused on is sponsoring events celebrating extreme sports and using this buzz as sources for marketing. The best example happened on October 14th, 2012, when Felix Baumgartner set a new world record for the highest sky diving jump. He defied death by jumping from 128,000 feet and flying at a speed of approximately 850 miles per hour all sponsored by Red Bull. Researching about this extreme marketing stunt, I realized wanted to analyze how Red Bull uses marketing, sponsoring and events to create buzz around their product all around the world. Winston Churchill As A Prime Minister Of England Sir Winston Churchill is well known for being the Prime Minister of England who led the country through World War II and played a major role in ending the war. However, it is his internal battles that give us far more insight into who Churchill really was. His personal struggle, possibly with bipolar disorder, helped shape history and gave Churchill the strength to win the war. The periods of highs and lows seen throughout Churchill s life indicate the he may have been struggling with Bipolar Disorder (Type II). Winston Churchill himself has even said that he suffered from the black dog of depression over the course of his life (Rubin, 2003). However, given his periods of hyperactivity it s very likely that Churchill was actually battling bipolar II disorder. Instead letting his mental disorder control him, Churchill overcame his bipolar disorder, and used this inspiration to lead his nation out of war. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (the DSM V), Bipolar II disorder is characterized by a clinical course of recurring mood episodes consisting of one or more major depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode. During the mood episode(s), the requisite number of symptoms must be present most of the day, nearly every day, and represent a noticeable change from usual behavior and functioning (APA, 2013). Essentially, Bipolar II Disorder is characterized by hypomanic and depressive episodes throughout a person s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Eastern Hemisphere And Its Impact On The Development Of... Between Two Regions The millennium from 1000 to 1500 C.E. changed significantly from the past eras that have been studied before. Sizable regions such as Africa and the Mediterranean Basin dominated the eastern side of our world. From incredible advancements in agricultural technology and extensive trade networks, to the complex social classes and religious values, the eastern hemisphere influenced the development of all societies. Agriculture was such a prominent part in every civilization since the beginning of time. It was a way for humans to be one with their land for it gave them means to survive. As agriculture became much more recognized in Africa, cultivators and herders displaced many of the hunting, gathering and fishing peoples who previously inhabited Saharan Africa. (Bentley,384) With the progression of new technology; iron axes, adzes, and hoes were created, and revolutionized agriculture on their land. The introduction of bananas from sea lanes became popular in Africa and increased the supply of food that was available. Likewise for Medieval Europe, cultivation on Europe grounds allowed more room for agricultural techniques, the utilization of developed tools and technologies, and the institution of new crops. Similar to Africa, population pressure rose and space for more agriculture became necessary. Beans were important to the diets of Europeans as were the bananas to African diets. • 21. Muscle Protein Synthesis Essay Introduction: In recent years, interest has sparked the health industry to research protein consumption after exercise to optimise muscle growth. Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS) is not only an appealing topic for bodybuilders, it is also beneficial to those over 60 years of age who may have experienced muscle mass loss over time. A decrease in muscle mass does not only lead to a decrease in overall strength but also makes daily movement severely painful, leading to a poor quality of life. All individuals can benefit from increasing muscle protein synthesis via an increased protein intake after resistance training. This will aid in maintaining muscle mass, strength and overall health (Wolfe, 2012). Review of Research Studies: Increasing muscle protein synthesis is crucial for the health of individuals over the age of 60. A study conducted by Dr. Ryan Andrews shows that a change in daily protein intake can impact the building of lean muscle mass. Participants between the age of 60 and 69 underwent a 12 week resistance training regime and were given a post exercise protein drink after each session. Results showed a substantial increase in lean muscle mass over the 12 week program for both males and females. Nevertheless, results indicated those that had consumed a daily diet high in protein had comparable increases of lean muscle mass as those with a daily diet low in protein. • 24. Taking a Look at Trickling Filters Trickling filters are one of the oldest types of biological filters. They have a simple design in which media is placed in a container that has a partially open bottom so water drains out [45]. The biofilter container can be constructed of a variety of materials, including plastic, wood, glass, metal, concrete, or any other nontoxic substance. The size of the biofilter directly determines the carrying capacity of fish in the system. Larger biofilters have a great ammonia assimilation capacity and can support greater fish production [43]. From the fish tank water with high ammonia flows into the trickle filter. Since a water trickles are down over the media, the large surface area and oxygen from the atmosphere allow nitrification bacteria to oxidize ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. Afterwards, the water exits the trickle filter with much reduced ammonia content (see Figure 11) [36]. Trickling filters are rugged and easy to operate. They have the ability to treat a wide variety of nutrient levels (see Figure 11). One of the big advantages of a trickling filter is that the water can leave with more oxygen than it entered. Because trickling filters have a large air water interface, they also act as strippers to remove CO2, H2S, N2 or other undesirable volatile gasses. The other advantages of trickle filter are low maintenance, self aerating, moderate capital cost and medium head application. The only major drawback of trickling filters is the energy cost required to pump the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Great Gatsby may be described as the most profoundly American novel of its time; Fitzgerald connects Gatsby s dream, his Platonic conception of himself, with the aspirations of the founders of America. A year later, Fitzgerald published a collection of short stories entitled All the Sad Young Men. The nurse is aware that the only physical pain that is hard to treat and control is neuropathic, this is determined through research. The nurse has gained knowledge through their own person understanding and empath which is part of Carper s (1978) ways of knowing through their experience of when their own grandfather was a patient before they were in palliative care. They had an experience that they would never want a family to go through when their loved one is dying. Through this experience it made the nurse want to go into palliative care so they could use their new knowledge to try their best to make a family with a dying loved one witness a good death . The nurse uses knowledge and attitudes built by an ethical framework. The nurse listens to what the patients want allowing them to be in control of their life, respecting their life, and doing what is right for the patient s well being. The nurse knows what the patient wants in order to die a good death even if it means stopping treatment so that there is no more pain but possibly a shorter life span. • 37. My Experience On A Boat Ride To Catalina Island One of my greatest field trips ever was on a boat ride to Catalina Island. It consisted of a three day overnight trip to the beautiful Island. My Dad and I woke up at 4:35 in the morning just to get to school on time to load up the bus. On the way to school, my dad and I stopped at three different stores to make sure we had enough food, and supplies for the boat ride. I was tired, but super excited! Once we arrived at school, we immediately started packing up the bus. Everyone looked like they just got drug out of the bed by their parents, just to come to another regular, boring day of school. I think I was the only one who was really excited; except for my Dad of course. Once the bus was completely packed with all our supplies, we all used the restroom, then hopped on the bus. As we drove down the freeway, my classmates and I played fun games like: I Spy and truth or dare. When we arrived in Long Beach, my friends and I decided to skip rocks by throwing the rocks into the water. Unfortunately, we got reprimanded by the person who worked there. That embarrassment did not last long because of the exciting adventure ahead. I was surprised to see how wrong I was about the type of boat that we would be taking. All along, I thought we were going to be taking an old wooden boat like those in the old movies. Thankfully, I became pleasantly surprised when I saw a modern motor boat. Suddenly, the engine turned on, and I was afraid for our lives. The woman driving sped the whole way there. It was a long and bumpy ride. After safely making it to Catalina Island, I wanted to hurry and throw on my swim trunks so that I could jump in the clear beautiful water. The water was so clear, that I could see fish brushing against my legs. As we stepped off of the boat and followed our camp leader, we sat Matthew Milton Milton 1 Mrs. Spinelli English7 10/5 /17 down in a huge circle, and introduced ourselves to one another. The thought of an undead night stalker that nourishes on human blood has been around for quite a long time and perseveres right up till modern days. The image of the immortal creature has perfectly fitted into the modern popular culture. Various nations and societies over the globe have individual deviations of a comparative folkloric substance. Regardless of the variety, all vampire stories have a key shared characteristic the desire for human blood and immortality. It was not until the late XIX century that an Irish writer agreed an expansiveness of learning on such folkloric stories and devised the character that now goes about as the format for the vampire myth. Bram Stoker s Dracula was initially distributed in 1897 and starting now and into the foreseeable future the author s title character set the point of reference for every single anecdotal vampire. Vampire fiction, in any case, keeps on developing and enrapture in spite of the way that it draws from a limitless folkloric and scholarly past. Humankind has dependably been intrigued with the charm of immortality and albeit initially vampires were not an image of this, as time passed and society changed so did the thoughts and discernments encompassing them. Coraghessan Boyle, both are short stories that explore the concept of satire. Satire can be defined as a kind of writing that ridicules human weakness, vice, of folly in order to bring about social reform. It is a kind of writing to bring about change to society. Even though both are short stories, they easily get the faults of society across to its readers. In A Modest Proposal, Swift is offering an outrageous solution to the problems of human misery. He proposes that people should start eating babies, and using them for everything that they are worth on a daily basis. Swift creates a pamphlet and states six reasons as to why this is a brilliant idea. He states that money wouldn t be wasted on food, the number of Catholics would be reduced, it would be great inducement to marriages, there would be more food so the economy would increase, poor tenants would have money for their landlords, and it would be an improvement for the tavern business. Swift wants everyone to know how badly the Irish people are being treated by the English. He wants to change the reader s point of view through this sarcastic satirical pamphlet. The authors purpose of A Modest Proposal, is to try to change society. Swift is trying to reform the British official s involvement in Ireland. People are dying, and nothing is being done about it. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they can grow up in peace (Kofi Annan). Children are like flowers. They must be loved, protected, and nourished in order to bloom. If they lack any of these essentials, they are most likely going to suffer and die without being able to serve their purpose. There is this universal hope that all children will flourish in life; however, there are certain circumstances that draw a line between the fortunate and unfortunate. In this case, the factor that dictates their future is their status in society, such as having the leisure of being able to attend facilities that aren t available to others. Poverty in children has numerous psychological, physical and mental effects and well being.
