I Am A C + Does Not Sit Well With Anyone
A C+ does not sit well with anyone. For me, that great sense of academic disappointment came in the
form of EECS 183 Elementary Programing Concepts. As a freshman, I was incredibly excited to be
exploring the plethora of academic disciplines available to me at the University of Michigan. Having
never been exposed to computer science, I decided to enroll in the introductory course. I was also
heavily influenced by my academic peers and hall mates, many who were interested in programming
apps or websites, and few of whom were pursuing degrees in computer science engineering. With a
slightly skewed sense confidence instilled in me by my friends, I began learning how to program
amidst many other academic subjects I was engulfed in as a Spanish major and pre med prospective.
At first, I couldn t get enough of the course. Every day, I approached the course material as a new, fun,
engaging puzzle that I would need to figure out. It was like learning a language all over again. In fact,
we were learning to program in a new language (C++ at first and then Python to finish the semester)
which made me feel as though I could now communicate with a whole new world of people. I was
very engaged in the homework, lectures, and discussions because I realized I would have to figure out
different ways to solve problems and think in an entirely unique manner than I was used to. However,
I learned quickly that the computer scientist mindset was one that not all students possessed

Everyone Needs A Little H2o
Everyone Needs a Little H2O Ever since the beginning of time water has been important. Water has
been important because it is one of the most abundant substance on Earth. Water is important because
every living thing contains water, and every living thing must have water to function. Water is
important whether it is e drunk a supper or if it is being used for survival in the desert. Water is
important because it is required for man to live, breath and thrive on this planet. In the article, How
Much Water Do We Actually Need, J. Lunn and R. Foxen state, Water is an essential requirement for
life without water, humans can only survive for 2 to 3 days at the most (336). In addition to water
being essential for life, it also has many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prehydration 2. Hydration 3. Dehydration 4. Rehydration (Okanovic et al. 69). These four phases
indicate when the athlete should hydrate. Prehydration and hydration are similar because both refer to
hydrating before competition. While prehydration refers to hydrating a few days before a competition,
hydration refers to hydrating throughout the day of the competition (Okanovic et al. 69 70).
Dehydration is the loss of water from the body. While Prehydration and hydration have to do with
hydrating prior to competition, rehydration is rehydrating the body after a competition (Okanovic et
al. 70). Dehydration is a serious condition and should not be taken lightly While the body not having
enough water is a big issue for athletes, too much water can also be a problem. In the article, How
Much Water Do We Actually Need, it states, If an individual consumes too much water, this can lead
to water intoxication with potentially life threatening hyponatraemia (Lunn and Foxen 336 337).
While an athlete should be careful on over consuming water, an athlete also needs to consume enough
water to last throughout a competition. Laura Purcell in her article, Sports Nutrition for Young
Athletes, Laura Purcell states, Before activity, athletes should consume 400ml to 600ml of cold water
2 h to 3 h before their event (Purcell). While four hundred to six hundred milliliters may not seem like
a lot of water,

The enduring nature and extensive range of the debate about dividend policy has spawned a vast
amount of literature that grows by the day. For this reason, a full review of all debates is not feasible1.
However, this paper endeavours to give justice to the importance of both the topic of dividend policy
as an area of financial economic research, and also to the literature that has been produced addressing
that topic, by reviewing the most important and influential studies in this area. It attempts to outline
the main theories and explanations of dividend policies and to review the main empirical studies on
corporate dividend policy. The remaining of this paper is organized as follows. Section 2 gives a short
background of corporate dividend policy. Section 3 analyses the theories of dividend policy starting
with the dividend irrelevance hypothesis of Miller and Modigliani, and then the alternative hypotheses
including bird inthe hand, tax preference, clientele effects, signalling, and agency costs hypotheses.
Section 4 summarises the paper.
2. Background of Corporate Dividend Policy2
The issue of corporate dividends has a long history and, as Frankfurter and Wood (1997) observed, is
bound up with the development of the corporate form itself. Corporate dividends date back at least to
the early sixteenth century in Holland and Great Britain when the captains of sixteenth century sailing
ships started selling financial claims to investors, which

Negative Consequences Of The Dust Bowl
I ve seen very often that some people seem to think their actions won t have any negative
consequences, or effect on anything around them. This can lead them to make decisions that have can
create major consequences for others and themselves, all for personal gain. This idea was widely acted
upon in the 1920 s, where so many people had not known that their actions would lead to, creating
The Great Depression. One of the more important Consequences was called the Dust Bowl. The Dust
Bowl was an event caused by the rise of farming in the 1920 s, which continues to affect the way we
grow our crops to this very day. The Dust Bowl was known as a large section of the US that was
covered in a large amount of powerful dust storms, which was caused by over excessive farming
during the 1920 s. Like many things during the time period, farming had started to become more and
more profitable. In fact, farming had been getting more profitable since WW1. However, this caused
people to become greedy. People would farm more and more land each year, in an effort to produce
better results. Farmers plowed away at field after field, unaware that anything negative would occur
from it. As said in the article The Dust Bowl on USHistory.com, What was unknown to these early
pioneers was that the grass and trees of the plains essentially nourished and held the soil in place with
their tough roots, (3). So when farmers would plow the land, they were disturbing what was keeping

Developing Personal Skills
Developing personal skills
Sexual and reproductive health is promoted in schools and the community in order to develop personal
skills. Various programs have been introduced in schools to provide accurate health information to
young people and enhance their skills in communication and decision making. This empowers
individuals to make their own safe choices and decreases health risks. Information on sexual health
has also been incorporated into the school syllabus, so it is being taught in schools to the students by
teachers. Raising awareness of STIs through media, for the general public, is a strategy being used to
spread information.
The Sexual Health and Relationship Education (Share) program was created by SHine SA, South
Australian Department of Health and the Department of Education and Children s Service in 2006,
involving 15 schools across South Australia. Their aim was to improve the sexual health, safety and
well being of young people in South Australia through an educational program. Although the program
did not result in substantial development of health knowledge, it created stronger family and
community bonds and students felt more confident discussing issues with their parents. The Share
program has now become the Focus Schools Program, which is being delivered in 102 schools across
South Australia. There has also an adaptation called the Aboriginal Schools Focus program which has
been specifically implemented for Aboriginal schools.

Andrew Carnegie Essay
Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie was born in Dumferline, Scotland, in November of 1935. His parents were Will and
Margaret Carnegie. He also had a brother, Tom. The main income for the geographic location where
he grew up was weaving linen. The people who engaged in this type of employment considered this
an art since it had relatively unchanged since medieval times. Andrew s father was one of those
craftsmen. Since there had been so little change in this type of work, they were really caught off guard
when machine production came around. For some, this industrialization was good. The Carnegies
were lead to believe that this was the way they should be headed. At first the returns were good for
them, but prices and demand fell, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He hired Carnegie to be his personal telegrapher and to assist him in dispatching trains over the
western division s mountainous main line. Here Andrew was able to really maximize the opportunity
set before him. He did public relations work, observations into how shipments were made and
received, and mastered the controlling of the division s operations. In 1859, Scott was promoted to
vice president and appointed Carnegie superintendent of the western division. This was Andrew s big
break. His knowledge of operations and innovative thinking pushed him to the top of his field. From
the years1859 1865, Carnegie expanded the road and increased traffic to an all time high. By doing
this, cost per ton mile fell. This process was his calling. The ability to lower costs. From there
Carnegie learned how to make money without lifting a finger: investing. He also learned that it didn t
matter whose money was being used for the transactions as long as the return exceeded the cost. It was
this type of mentality that led him into investing in sleeping cars, oil companies, and bridge companies
at that time. All of these business adventures were not all successes, though. The bottom line for him
at this time was to invest no matter what. Carnegie also learned that he could make money off of
selling bonds and shares of stock. He had an amazing ability to understand the working structures of
the business world. Nothing could escape him. All of this knowledge seemed to be

After having defied the odds myself by graduating from college and working toward two Master s
degrees, I owe it to the next generation to pass the torch. They have too much against them:
threats both seen and unseen. With love for all mankind in my heart, it is important that I do all I can
to preserve our communities.
If so fortunate to become a member of this distinguished organization I hope to serve the community
as well as form life long bonds through the principle of brotherhood. An Oromo proverb states,
Knowledge kept to oneself is as useless as a candle burning in a pot. I believe this same statement
applies to an individual s talents and skills. Talents and skills that are given to us, but not used, are
useless. Accordingly, as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Incorporated, I will make sure to continue the work of Alpha in my service to others throughout my
life. In hopes of leaving a legacy of manly deeds, scholarship, and most importantly love.

was born January 5, 1860, in franklin County, Mississippi. E.Y. Mullins early demonstrated a love for
learning and reading, inspired by his father s teaching example. A definite call to ministry, led Mullins
to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Louisville Kentucky to study in 1881. Mullins believe
the Seminary was a school with clear theological convictions and much respected faculty. By 1885,
Mullins was recognized as a full graduate of the seminary. In 1898, the seminary was facing the
second theological crisis. The SBC originated in denominational schism and throughout history has

Mullins was concerned that Baptists were known more for what they reject (ecclesiastical hierarchies,
infant baptism, interdenominational union, etc.) rather than the fundamentals of the Baptists faith. The
Axioms were an attempt to explicate the full meaning of the soul competency. Whereas, Christian
theism is the only possible philosophy for man who accepts the fundamentals principle of the soul s
competency, for it asserts God s ability to communicate a revelation to man and man s capability to
receive it and to communicate with God. Every significant movement of our day is one form another
man s purpose to make his way back to God. (p.74). The six Axioms of religion:
The theological axiom: The holy and loving God has a right to be sovereign.
The religious axiom: All souls have an equal right to direct access to God.
The ecclesiastical axiom: All believers have a right to equal privileges in the church.
The moral axiom: To be responsible, man must be free.
The religio civic axiom: A free church in a free state.
The social axiom: Love your neighbor as yourself.
Mullins states, many of the essential and fundamental things of the gospel, indicate there are at least
theological agreement. He further states, Baptist are the best example to Christianity, because they

How Rural Slaves Lived And Worked On Brazilian Sugar...
Throughout the 16th century, as there was a demographic collapse of the indigenous population, there
was now a new demand for slave labor in Latin America. In Brazil, the Portuguese needed a large
workforce to cultivate sugar plantations. As a result, numerous slaves from Africa were imported to
work on large plantation fields. In various plantations, rural slaves experienced harsh working and
living conditions. Few slaves had a high life expectancy. Robert Edgar Conrad in Children of God s
Fire, shares some primary sources that dealt with the types of environments and conditions many
slaves faced and encountered in Brazil. The sources also gave insight into the regulations and
economics/business of the slave trade. Conrad states that rural Brazil was a hell for blacks (Conrad
54). Many slaves dealt with extremely harsh conditions just to keep the European market in Latin
American growing and profitable. This paper will analyze how rural slaves lived and worked on
Brazilian sugar plantations.
To start, in Brazil the Portuguese become convinced that full scale exploitation of the land was
imperative for the safety of their entire overseas empire. Sugar cultivation was the ideal crop to
guarantee the existence of a profitable colony. As a result, the Portuguese dominated the Atlantic slave
trade. Various slaves from different parts of Africa were brought to Brazil and experienced difficult
working and in living in Brazilian sugar plantations and that only slaves

A Narrative Of Me And You Written By Niccolo Ammaniti s...
A narrative bears many similarities to a snowflake. All snowflakes are composed of exactly the same
material, but when scrutinized, no two are the same. The same can be said about two narratives which
may contain the same story but the meaning can change when recounted by different narrators. The
difference in narratives can be observed in the novel and film adaptation of Me and You written by
Niccolò Ammaniti s and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. All stories contain a mixture of constituent
and supplementary events. The overall constituent events that must be present in Me and You are that
Lorenzo must first lie about leaving for a week long ski trip, then he must hide in a cellar, after which
Olivia rest with her brother until the week ends. Both Ammaniti and Bertolucci insert supplementary
events that although do not move the story forward or directly affect the constituent events, add
meaning to their perspective of the story. The supplementary event which Ammaniti attaches to his
narrative occurs when he writes the scene about Lorenzo and his mother were stuck in a traffic jam on
the Corso Vittorio. On the other hand, Bertolucci incorporates the scene where Oliva invites a friend to
the cellar to further strengthen his vision for his narrative. Meanwhile Ammaniti crafts his narrative to
present the reader with Italy s imperfections and perfections, Bertolucci limits the audience s
knowledge of the Italy outside of Lorenzo s bunker to bring us to a closer meaning of

2007-2008 Financial Crisis
The Global Financial Crisis of 2007 2008
The Global Financial Crisis 2007 2008 Economists and scholars spend years dissecting financial
markets and evaluating the causes of booms and busts. Throughout United States history there have
been multiple economic booms that were underestimated and followed by recessions. In the situation
of the 2007 2008 global financial crisis many culprits have been identified as causes, such as loose
monetary policy, credit booms, deregulation, over complexity, and greed. Since the economic boom
was solely dependent on weak policies and misconceptions, this leads me to believe prevention was
possible with adequate regulatory policy, risk assessment and clarifications for commercial banks.

Generally homeowners were required to meet certain qualifications in order to borrow funds for
mortgages, also known as prime mortgages. Since the prime mortgage market had receded, lenders
were encouraged to lower their requirements for lending and began to allow subprime mortgages.
These less responsible homeowners began to default on their mortgages, which turned investment
bankers stream of mortgage payments into empty houses. Increases in foreclosures raise the supply of
available houses, which lowers the fair market values of houses. The prime mortgage homeowners
were left with houses that were highly devalued relative to their mortgages and began to abandon their
mortgage obligations. Mortgage lenders, investment bankers, and outside investors froze their
activities, as they faced possible bankruptcy.
Regulatory/Supervisory Inadequacies Deregulation is believed to be the underlying cause of all
economic downturns, as its scope of responsibility reaches all markets. In the 1930s the United States
experienced a bank crisis that sparked a widespread distrust in the banking system and people
withdrew their money from the depository institutions overnight. The sudden retraction of the money
supply from the economy caused many banks to close and the economy to suffer. The Banking Act of
1933, also known as the Glass Steagall Act, was created to insure depositors

Automation levels will be increased to improve margins and to offset second shift/overtime costs.
Mission Statement
Reliable products for low technology customers: Our brands offer value. Our stakeholders are
bondholders, stockholders, customers and management.
Tactics
Research Development: We will concentrate our existing product line into the Low End and
Traditional segments. The traditional product will migrate to the Low End segment. The High product
will migrate to the Traditional segment. During the early years we will migrate (gradually) our
Performance and Size segment products to the Traditional segment. We can also introduce a new
product to work in the Traditional market.
Marketing: Initially we will attempt to keep pace with the awareness and accessibility of our
competitors products. After we establish our cost leadership position we will revisit our situation to
decide whether sales and promotion budgets should be reduced or if we should continue to match our
competitors. Our prices will be lower than average.
Production: We will significantly increase automation levels on our products. However, because
automation sets limits upon our ability to reposition products with R D, we will postpone automation
for the High End and Size products until they arrive in the Traditional Segment. We will prefer second
shift/overtime to capacity expansions.
Finance: We will Finance our investments primarily through long term bond

Essay On St. Louis Home
I have been exposed to the Holocaust from grade school, through my own personal interest in school.
For the most part, this was through books historical fiction, and survivor accounts. My most recent
expose was this past summer as an intern with the St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center.
This experience brought me working closely with artifacts from survivors who call St. Louis home. I
worked with the artifacts to create condition reports. What was important to me about the museum
was that it main parts were about 1933 1945, but it talked about the pre war and post war life for Jews.
It was a very rewarding experience to work with artifacts that belonged to survivors who live the
reminders of their lives in St. Louis.

In stability, leads can lead to conflict, but nationalism has a similar effect in a stressful situation like
the 1930 s in Germany. Nationalism important to the formation of Germany. However, it can have
some serious conquests because of the emphasis on a shared culture, history, and language. This by
nature makes nationalism exclusive; it forces states to create who are its people. Hitler uses
nationalism to his advantage to sow doubt to his supports that Jews were not German. Nationalism
allowed for non Jewish Germans to understand that Jewish were not like them. For the fact that Jewish
had a shared history, culture, and langue that is different from other Germans. The creation of shared
identities allows for those who appear to not have these qualifications to be discriminated against.
When a nation holds tightly to nationalistic standards it leads down a path towards a genocide. Hitler
speeches and writing are based on who is German. Studying the Holocaust shows that nations must
take a more multicultural perspective and legal basis for defining citizens. A policy based on emotion
does not create the best policy for a state. This goes back to physiologically how people think about
others, and in moving towards both extremes of the political spectrum there is black and white
thinking. Nationalism allows for not critical

The film was released in 1954, and it was Kurosawa s first samurai film. This film is one of the
greatest Japanese films ever made. The story of this film is based on historical samurai who once

Why do you think the director chose to present them this way?
The beginning of the opening credits is almost the same of the other movies that we have watched in
the class, but what makes the beginning of this film famous is the attack of bandits on the village.
● How does the film start? How does this affect you as a viewer?
The film starts with a group of bandits attacking a village of farmers and stealing their crops. As
viewer, it tells me historical some facts like formers were the victims or the poor weak class in the
society because they did not have the power to fight back.
● What are the three most important scenes in the film? Why?
In the scenes where the seven samurai warriers teach the farmers how to fight the bandits or defend
themselves are very important because we see two different social classes unite to fight the same
enemy. One of the most important scenes is the scene where the seven samurai warriers agree to help
the villagers without getting a great amount of money or status in return. They agree to help because
they care about the people. They want to teach the villagers how to defend themselves to get rid of the
bandits that are ruining and taking advantage of the lives of the poor

The Epic of Gilgamesh and Sumerian Culture Essay
The Epic of Gilgamesh and Sumerian Culture The Epic of Gilgamesh is generally regarded as the
greatest literature about tales of a great king. The Epic of Gilgamesh served to show us a lot of things.
The time period of BCE is very blurry, and this story attempts to describe many different things in not
only Sumerian beliefs, but also Sumerian s culture as a whole. Like many stories from BCE the truth
itself is questionable, even though a lot of the information is fact. The factual information that
Gilgamesh teaches us about Sumerian Civilization is that had had many craftsman and artistic skills,

This is proof of the Sumerian architectural abilities. The architecture in Mesopotamia are considered
to have been contemporary with the founding of the Sumerian cities, but there was some complexity
in the architectural design during this Protoliterate period (c. 3400 c. 2900 BC). This is shown in the
design of many religious buildings. Typical temples of the Protoliterate period both the platform type
and the type built at ground level are, however, much more elaborate both in planning and ornament.
The interior was decorated with cones sunk into the wall, covered in bronze. Most cities were simple
in structure, but the ziggurat was one of the world s first complex architectural structures. The
Sumerian temples, called ziggurats was a small brick house that the god was supposed to visit
periodically. This house, however, was set on a brick platform, which became larger and taller as time
progressed. Along with showing many types of Sumerian craftsmanship, the epic shows the strong
belief in many gods. All through out the story Gilgamesh comes in contact with many gods. But even
before the contact with the gods, there was talk about Gilgamesh being created by them. When the
Gods created him they gave him a perfect body...Shamash...endowed him with beauty, Adad endowed

Mobile Phone And Modern Cell Phone
Research Question Over years technology has expanded dramatically. The amount of high level
technology that is around us today in popular culture is massive. Things such as ipads, computers, tvs,
ipods, and especially cell phones are used 24/7. Since 1876, when Alexander Graham Bell invented
the first phone, it was a major success in technology. People could finally communicate with each
other on the phone without actually having to see the person. The invention was great and really
expanded the world with the telephone. Humans love to socialize. Before the telephone was invented
people had to get up and actually physically talk to the person. However, as time went on phones have
expanded. Home phones led to cell phones and now we have all the iphones. Are we getting more
sociable with the resource we have in the cell phone? Not just the physical aspect of the phone but all
the things that apply on the phone such as all the social media apps like twitter, facebook, and
instagram that are all accessible on the phone. The research study that i want to analyze is does the
modern day cell phone make people less physically social. Method In order to test this theory out I
first think it s important to define what sociable means. Sociable can be taken in different ways so i
would like to clarify specifically for this experiment. Socialization is the process by which a living
organism is changed into a person and a social human being. It is with the help of this process that

Exile In Disney Film
A fairly frequent, if not oft considered, theme of Disney films is exile. Simba in The Lion King, Mike
and Sully in Monsters, Inc., Elsa in Frozen, Will and Elizabeth in Pirates of the Caribbean, the list
goes on and on. Whether self initiated or forced, all of these characters face exile at some point in their
stories. Battling isolation, self loathing, and identity crises, however, these characters also experience
an awakening of sorts. In the true Disney way, from the source of their sorrow springs strength and
illumination. Though in a much darker setting, Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness also explores exile
and both the alienating and enriching effects it can have upon people. Conrad denounces European
imperialism through the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This isolation lends Marlow a sort of objectivity, allowing him to keenly assess the true damage
Europe has inflicted upon the Congo. Unbound by friendships or any close ties, Marlow is able to
survey the Congo and its colonists from an outsider s perspective. As previously noted, he refers to
them as pilgrims as a means of detaching himself. He comments on how when attacked by natives,
The pilgrims had opened with their Winchesters, and were simply squirting lead into that bush
(Conrad 41). By distancing himself from the others, Marlow is able to recognize the pointlessness of
the chaotic violence the Europeans perpetuate. Though his distaste for European methods is not
always well defined, it is definitely evident, seeming to escalate as he travels further along the Congo.
Perhaps, then, the heart of darkness that Marlow so frequently says he is journeying into is not the
jungle itself, but rather the truth about European brutality. At the core of this heart, both physically and
symbolically, lies the Inner Station, where Marlow finds Kurtz. When Marlow first hears about Kurtz,
he is fascinated. The colonists rave, He is a prodigy...He is an emissary of pity, and science, and
progress, and devil knows what else (Conrad 22). These colonists are naïve, uninformed, beholding
Kurtz as

Digital Ethnographic Research
The word photography comes from the Greek, meaning drawing with light . It is a kind of art, as well
as a technology with a long path of development that seems destined to continue as new possibilities
for capturing images are discovered. Digital photography has come a long way in a short amount of
time. The digital camera, when first invented, was labeled by many in the industry as no more than an
overpriced gimmick that had no real value in the world of photography. As of 2016, research shows
that over 122.68 million households in the U.S. own a digital camera. While those statistics are

Signs And Symptoms Of Sickle Cell Anemia
Signs and symptoms of sickle cell anemia may be determined at birth. Some infants though, do not
show any signs until the age of four months. Other infants, might show some signs at birth that have to
deal with the anemia part of the illness. Babies special hemoglobin protects their red blood cells which
is why some of them are not diagnosed at birth. Some people have severe symptoms and others could
just be mild. There are many different symptoms or signs of sickle cell anemia, there are signs that
have to do with just the anemia part and other signs that have to do with the disease part of the illness.
Many different symptoms have to deal with the anemic part of the illness. Some of the most
commonly diagnosed symptoms are; shortness of breath, dizziness, jaundice, pale skin, headaches,
and coldness in the head and feet. The hands and feet of sickle cell patients could be swollen which is
the first sign of sickle cell sometimes. A fever is usually side by side with the swelling. Red blood
cells carry oxygen through our bodies and delivers it throughout our systems. With sickle cell, those
red blood cells tend to form a crescent moon shape and often get stuck together in the blood vessels.
This will cause swelling and pain in which ever body part the blood is sickling in. Blood is carried to
each body part, which also means for sickle cell patients sickling can happen almost anywhere in their
entire body. Pain would have to be one of the most common symptoms of sickle

Europeans In 19th Century Americans
In chapter one I was intrigued to learn about the Europeans. Edwin Gaustad and Leigh Schmidt stated
that learning about the inhabitants of what we referred to as the New World , the Europeans would
romanticize and idealize themselves as symbols. The Europeans were symbolic in their way of
innocence, they were the true inheritors of the Garden of Eden before the fall. Exploring deeper into
the Europeans symbolic meaning, I discovered that the tendency of Europeans to sentimentalize the
earliest Americans were always correlated by a tendency to be brutal and exploit them. During the
nineteenth century, a period of a rapid European sweep across the North American continent, racial
stereotypes of white men verse red man became more intense. During

Mars chocolate is one of the worlds leading chocolate manufacturers and employs more than 13,000

The issue of slave labour is not merely one that requires unilateral action... international actors such as
foreign governments, NGOs, civil society participants, as well as other actors implicated either in
supplying the labour or consuming its products are (needed) to help address the problem
(Chanthavong, 2002). When it comes to how Mars can help solve this issue, they must continue to
finance and support cooperative efforts with both governments and nongovernmental organizations.
Such efforts include the International Cocoa Initiative , an initiative working throughout the Ivory
Coast with a goal of totally eliminating child labour in cocoa (Peter McAllister, BBC interview); and
the The World Cocoa Foundation , an initiative helping to achieve cocoa sustainability, supporting
cocoa communities, education, field programs and scientific research (World Cocoa Foundation,

in eradicating this issue completely requires the support, cooperation and commitment of the
governments of cocoa producing countries, the cocoa farmers and others from within the cocoa
community (Mars, 2012).

Current Situation Of The New World Project Coordinate...
Current situation
Virtually all transportation engineering firms today produce digital data for their designs, mostly in the
form of 2D files in either Microstation (.dgn) or Autocad (.dwg) format. These files represent the plan
layout, in the real world project coordinate system, of each discipline of work: roadway, drainage,
structure, electrical, communications, and so on. Some of the digital data represents other views, such
as profile, elevation, cross sections, and highly complex digital data contains non graphic data such as
coordinate geometry, templates, and networks. This digital design data isn t new; it s been growing in
use since the early 80 s and reached critical mass in the early 90 s
However, even with all of this digital data being created, the focus of the work is still on producing
traditional deliverables in the form of plans (also referred to as drawings) who s format has changed
very little since the blueprint was invented in the mid 1800 s.
Traditional Plans Are Analog Information
Traditional plans or drawings are analog information printed by referencing the underlying digital
information. The only means of interpreting them is by visual recognition (shape), scaling
(approximate distance), or by reading a callout (text and numbers). They are a mimicry of what past
technology caused the format of communication to be. However, even though the technology has
changed, the mimicry of past form stays the same, in much the same manner as an

Life Orientation Line Dancing Portfolio
10 August 2015
Section B:
Definition: a type of country and western dancing in which dancers line up in a row without partners
and follow a choreographed pattern of steps to music.
History: Line dancing originated before Christ and it originated from another kind of dance called
Contra dancing which was done in the New England states in the early 1800s. The Contra was set up
in such a way that there would be two lines facing each other one line would be men and the other line
would be woman. A couple would then step into the middle and do their own routine down the line
and then the next couple would come forward and so on and so forth.

One of the strengths that I realized while dancing was that I have a good ear for hearing the beat of the
music and find it easy to keep to the rhythm of the dance. I also found it easy to remember the steps
and the order of the steps. I struggled with the technicalities of certain steps. In the beginning I also
struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this
enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. I enjoyed learning choreography and
dancing in time to the music but I did not enjoy how some people were singled out and forced to
dance in front of the entire class. Line dancing was very beneficial not only physically but it also
teaches a lot of life lessons that cannot be learned anywhere else such as discipline and to respect and
appreciate women. I would participate in further line dancing activities because it is a good
opportunity to get to know new people and become involved in new thing and learn new skills. Line
dancing can improve confidence and self esteem so I would therefore do it again if I was struggling
with these things. I personally highly enjoyed going to the line dancing lessons as it was a way for me
to escape from the busy life of a matric student. It gave me a chance to forget about all other work and
subjects and allowed me to express myself in such a way that it relieved stress from my everyday

The Genide Of Native American Genocide To The Native...
The only good Indians I ever saw were dead. Those were the infamous words of General Philip H.
Sheridan to a Comanche Chief named Toch a way when the chief introduced himself as a good Indian.
General Sheridan wasn t the first to see it that and way and he surely wasn t the last. There is evidence
to conclude that a genocide did in fact happen to the Native Americans. Native Americans also known
as Indians have been persecuted and targeted from the day the first Europeans stepped foot on the
Americas. European expansion into North America whether to find gold, escape religious persecution
or start a new life led to the destruction of Native American livelihoods. Disease was a major killer,
followed by malnutrition. Colonists in search of gold staged violent ambushes on tribal villages,
fueling animosity with Natives. Several wars broke out between tribes and American settlers which
led to large death tolls, land dispossession, oppression and blatant racism. (Atrocities) When
Christopher Columbus was searching for a direct route from Europe to Asia in 1492 he came across
the Americas. He called the people he encountered there Indians because he believed that he was
sailing the Indian Ocean. Although Columbus is praised as a glorious explorer of the new world he
was also one of the early perpetrators of atrocities against Native Americans. The early eighteenth
century brought about the beginning of extreme Native American persecution. As

when the streets are frustrated with the police for police brutality, harassment, racism, and being

the police refused to provide security for the N.W.A concert tours, as if the police picked its side

community in Compton. In 1989, a rare scene in the history of music occurred when the F.B.I notably

No Longer at Ease by by Chinua Achebe
No Longer at Ease is an interesting book. While it has its negatives, the way this book was written and
the deeper meaning to be found once you look closer into the book outweigh said negatives. In the
book No Longer at Ease by Chinua Achebe, morals are tested and eventually lost. The author places
the main character, Obi Okonkwo, into many financial struggles and tests his idea of being an
incorruptible person. Eventually Obi falls to the corruption of bribery and is arrested. The author
makes a lot of effort in placing Obi in financial situations where he just cannot keep up with all of the
expenses and at times makes bad financial decisions. Obi s constant struggle with his fiancée, Clara,
his parents, and the Umuofian Progressive Union beat down Obi s will to continue struggling to pay
his expenses and takes the easy way out. This book is about several major themes, but one in
particular stands out to me: colonization versus traditional living among the Nigerians. The English
come and colonize Africa with a goal of making them better people and to educate them. They pay for
the education of the smartest Africans and send them to England to learn. The Africans that have the
experience with the teachings of the English begin to become naturally greedy. They have lived their
whole lives as just having enough but when they are educated and get a good paying job, they start to
want more. Obi was a prime example of a colonized African . Obi bought a really luxurious car,

Mexican American Relations Of The Past And The Present Essay
After thinking well about our class and the sociological symbols of power what first comes to my
mind is the border. Seemingly enough I first had an idea to do my paper on the narcotics trafficking
but I stumbled across a few good articles that support my thesis to my paper. In my paper my goal of
is to address Mexican American relations of the past and the present, and to project what type of
relations must exist between these two countries in order to address key issues that are symbolic
power indicators such as racism and poverty, who benefits, who wins, who rules when dealing with a
major local sociological issue of treating illegal immigrants.
A little background on the history, in the early 1990 s immigrants suffered poor economic situations in
the United States. The blame had to be put somewhere so Governor Pete Wilson of California decided
to vocally address this issue with his proposed Proposition 187 in 1994. At this time California was
facing economic recession and felt that the massive immigration of illegal immigrants from Mexico
was the primary reason for residents economic struggles. Furthermore Proposition 187, promoted as
the Save Our State initiative, called for a dismissal of the availability of public service such as
education and health care to illegal immigrants. It also aided in their deportation, as people such as
nurses and teachers would be required to report suspected illegal immigrants to authorities. This
initiative was able to pass even

Comparing Hasker And The Star Trek
Upon reading both Hasker and the Star Trek synopsis, I have come to the conclusion that Picard and
Maddox exhibited different views of Data and because of this difference in beliefs tension is felt
throughout their arguments. To begin, I feel the mind/body problem exhibited by Picard is one of a
materialistic view which states, Man is a wholly material being (Hasker, P. 69). Throughout Picard s
argument it becomes apparent that he regards Data, who is an android, as an officer aboard his ship
and deems him more than just a machine. The reading suggest the human brain functions in a way that
resembles a self operating computer similar to the computer found in Data (Hasker, P. 70) Hasker adds
that our thoughts and other functions of the brain are simply the characteristics of complex, highly
organized physical systems namely that of the brain (Hasker, P. 70). Throughout Picard s argument he
repeatedly echoes Data s use of the word my in respect to Data s rights, freedoms and choices and
asserts the idea that Data is comprised of a brain and body working together forming both ideas and
emotions. Picard views him as having the capability to feel the same emotions as humans as well as
the capacity to make decisions in the same way as a human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Essay On Editing Drafting And Persuasion
The use of editing, drafting, and persuasion are all beneficial in the use of writing, but they also
impact society by way of helping audience understanding. Drafting is the beginning, it s the
opportunity to discover what you have to say and how best to say it (Murray). Editing is a way of
correcting a piece over time to make writing less blocked so words will come more easily (Elbow).
Persuasion is the reason to make a speech or publish a document a document such as the Constitution
achieving what the author wants to say (Aristotle). The Constitution had a positive impact, written by
James Madison and a group of others who took the time to draft, edit, and eventually persuade
Congress to publish the document to the United States. Drafting can be a long antagonizing process,
but in the long run it ll pay off like it did for the Constitution. There needs to be a focus on drafting
including revising, editing, and reading (Murray) so that you re completely successful in eventually
finishing a piece. It took the authors of the Constitution 5 months, from May 1787 until the signing in
September 1787 (National Constitution Center) to achieve this. That shows that drafting can be a long
process, but because of the positive outcome to the United States, drafting was just the beginning part
of an impactful piece on society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

without persuasion. Without it, the Constitution would not have been ratified the way it was, written

Male Gaze In The Gaze
The gaze is an important part of any literary work in that it defines the viewpoint from which the
reader sees the rest of the story. The gaze, however, is also much more than a particular point of view.
It is a conveyance of power, and a way in which a narrator is able to completely shape the way readers
understand other characters in the story, imparting their own standards and beliefs onto an often
unrealizing audience. The gaze has a very clear relation to power in the sense that it is what shapes
how an audience sees certain things. An example of this is through the institution of white supremacy
in media via the gaze of the mass media in the mid 20th century. As Bell Hooks explains, when black

Whether it be the console game or the video, the gaze conveys the same image: the woman is an
object, there for the male to act upon, but without any input onto her surroundings of her own.
Let us take, for example, the role of Mary Jane in the Spiderman franchise. This is especially
important because Spiderman is primarily marketed towards a younger audience, thus imparting the
male gaze upon young people who may never realize that they are being influenced. Mary Jane is the
object of affection of not only Spiderman, but also of Harry Osborn, who becomes the villain Green
Goblin.
Here, we see Mary Jane as the object of desire for both hero and villain, and is subsequently captured
and used to lure the hero into battle, where Spiderman must come to her rescue and save the day. And
then, once rescued, of course, Mary Jane falls for her heroic savior, despite the obvious danger that his

The Topic Of Specific Language Impairment
The topic of Specific Language Impairment (SLI) has been debated throughout the field of speech
language pathology for various years. It is a topic that has been researched to a limited extinct and is
continued to be a mystery for professionals within the field. To further the controversy as to what is
considered an SLI, many professionals debate whether a person who utilizes sign language can be
diagnosed with this disorder. The disorder becomes even more complex when the question of
assessment of this disorder is evaluated. The complexity of this disorder further fuels the controversy
and frustration of speech language pathologists around the world.
To determine ones opinion regarding SLI s in individuals, whose primary language is sign language,
the basics of this disorder must first be addressed. According to Richard Schwartz, an SLI can be
defined as an impairment of language comprehension, production, or both in the absence of a hearing
impairment, a general developmental delay, any neurological impairment and/or a diagnosis of autism
(2009). With 7% of the American population diagnosed with an SLI, it can be said that a more
accurate prevalence can be identified if professionals identify reliable inclusionary characteristics of
the disorder. if Based on this primary definition, a person who is Deaf and utilizes sign language as a
primary form of communication purely based on his or her hearing impairment. Although many

Why Is Swing Better Than Traditional Jazz
A few years later that jazz was born in 1930 another style was created and it is call swing. Also called
the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the most popular
style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted the one that made
people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does not mean that one
is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people and it is hard to
describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music consisted in five
saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm section with the guitar,
bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that people were crazy about.
Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing feeling although in swing
there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed musicians to have an
advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a melody. Because big
bands in the swing era could not do collective improvisations bands started to use more arrangements
and the improvisation was only with solos. Duke Ellington was one of the most influential musician

thing was the emotion that a person could feel while listening to her. She had what is most important

Questions On Google File System
4 Modern Distributed File System
4.1 GFS (Google File System)
Google File System (GFS) as a proprietary file system was first published by ACM 2003 Article, and
was developed by Google for its own use. Its design goal was to provide efficient, reliable access to a
large amount of data using clusters of commodity hardware. Those cheap commodity computers will
bring the high failure rate of individual nodes and the subsequent data loss. So GFS has some
strategies to deal with the system failure. GFS also supports for high data throughputs, even when it
comes at the cost of latency.
In GFS, files are extremely rarely overwritten, or shrunk. When these files need to be modified, it only
adds append to those files.
A GFS cluster consists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only when all chunk servers send back acknowledge, the changes can be saved on the system. This
strategy guarantees the completion and atomicity of the operation.
Client application accesses the files by first querying the Master server for the locations of the desired
chunks; with these information the client can contact with the chunk servers directly for further
operations. But if the chunks are being operated on (i.e. there are outstanding leases exist), the client
cannot access those files at this time.
GFS is not implemented in the kernel of an operating system, but is instead provided as a user space
library.
4.2 HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System)
Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is developed from GFS, so it has almost the same
architecture with GFS, master/slave architecture. HDFS is designed to hold large amount of data
(terabytes or even petabytes) and distributes the data in a cluster of connected computers. HDFS, as
the important part of Hadoop, usually handles those data with large size. It puts the large data into
small chunks, which is usually 64 megabytes, and stores three copies of each chunk into different data
nodes (chunk servers). By fragmenting the large data and distributing them into different datanodes
allow client application to read data from distributed files and perform operations by using
MapReduce. but is an open source system developed using GFS as a

The Importance Of High School Athletes In Sports
Bobby Unser once said Success is where preparation and opportunity meet. . This quote is relevant to
this subject, because if the athlete works hard at preparing himself to excel at his grades he should be
granted the opportunity to play sports. High school athletes should be required to acquire a certain
GPA in order to participate in sports for a multitude of reasons, including: First, having higher grades
would teach the players to work hard in order to participate in activities they enjoy. Second, after the
student graduates from high school, colleges are going to look at their GPA in order for the athletes to
qualify for a scholarship whether for athletics or academics (Blake). Lastly, playing sports is a
privilege, not a priority (Reeves). The players having to maintain a certain GPA would teach them
hard work. It would teach them hard work by showing the players they won t receive everything just
handed to them. It would also show the athletes that they need to work hard in order to be able to do
the extracurricular activities they enjoy doing. The athletes learning hard work would help them in
college because they need to know how to work hard on their education in college. Lastly, learning
hard work from obtaining a high GPA is that if the player proves he can work hard academically it will
also prove that he can work hard as an athlete (Wells) After high school if the athlete wants to attend
college they will need to have a certain GPA. They will need a certain

Essay On Lower House Of Government
The United States and France are two countries with similar ways of electing the lower house of
government. Both countries are divided into districts with single member representation. However, the
United States uses a majority system, first past the post, while France uses a majority plurality, two
round system. With each system there are separate advantages and disadvantages. Nonetheless, the
first past the post system used in the United States is more efficient, cost effective, and
comprehendible to the average person. The United States of America elects the lower house of
government using simple majority. This system can also be described as a plurality, or first past the
post. The United States is divided into 435 different districts by population, with one individual
representing each constituency. Members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of
government in the United States, are elected every two years. (Parline Database, 2016) The methods
by which candidates are brought to the ballot vary by state. However, most states use a partisan
primary to bring candidates to the final ballot. For example, Washington State uses the top two method
to bring candidates to the ballot. Under this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under plurality, the individual who receives the most votes receives the seat in the House of
Representatives. The individual may not always receive the majority of votes because more than two
individuals may receive votes. This leads to wasted votes in that everyone who voted for the losing
candidate does not have their vote represented. In addition, more seats may be given to a political
party than votes received. If a political party receives a plurality of votes with thirty percent
nationwide, they may be the new majority party but seventy percent of the country still voted for
somebody else. (Hoard,

Don John Character Analysis
When thinking about the well known comedy Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare the
audience is quick to focus on the wit and comedy that the play has to offer, rather than the understated
villain who easily disappears in the background. While reading the play, one can posit that Don John
is not the typical villain who acts with a specific motive in mind, rather, he is acting out of an
obligation he feels to serve as an antagonist considering his position as a bastard. This is demonstrated
in his dialogue, which reveals his inner turmoil on being chained to the villainous role and his
willingness to act on any malicious opportunity that presents itself to him. This is significant in that, it
provides another layer to our villain and causes the audience to think beyond the first layer that is
easily presented, and into the true inner motives of the character.
Don John claims that the resentment people have towards him is rooted in the fact that he is a bastard
and any friendly intentions towards him are fraudulent ones. From the beginning of the play Don John
does not come across as a friendly figure, especially compared to the rest of the soldiers that come
with the party to Messina in a flourish of good and excitement. As Leonato welcomes the party he
seems to implicate that he is extending the welcome on to Don John, because of his relationship with
Don Pedro, the prince and his brother. Don John remarks in a conversation, ...it better fits my blood to

Theme Of Death In The Veldt
The Suspenseful Death in The Veldt
This suspense story The Veldt written by Ray Bradbury, is about the overuse of technology. In this
writing, the characters; Lydia and George have given their children all they could ask for but what
happens at the end would be a parents worst nightmare. As the story comes to an end Peter and Wendy
locked the parents in the nursery to become the lions tasty lunch. Bradbury creates suspense through
the use of sensory details and foreshadowing.
One unusual day George and Lydia wander into their children s nursery confused on the appearance of
lions and vultures. The couple observes a pride of lions heading to the watering hole after finishing the
lunch. The author describes the dead carcasses circling around the body. The reader can infer that
things that happen in the nursery have to do with death. A few moments later, Lydia observes the lions
and realizes that the lions might be a little too real to be virtual reality. The lions feeding and other
actions looked like more than what a fake lion would do. Later in the story Lydia and George are
standing near the nursery confused about the lions when Lydia hears a scream. Startled, she asks
George if he heard it too. Surprisingly, George did not hear anything. As the story progresses the
couple hears the screams two more times. The screams are unusually familiar to George and Lydia. At
the end George and Lydia realize the screams were their own. Bradbury describes the lions to allow

Sex Workers And The Criminalization Of Prostitution
INTRODUCTION
Though being a party of the same society the sex workers are denied the right to vote and dignity.
They are criticized and a considered a stigma to the society .
If no steps are taken to legalize it and issue license then there can be no ways to keep a track on the
illegal human trafficking and further to keep a check on their health.
They are most often ostracized by the society.
The rights of the sex workers are also human rights and also that the right to trade their body is their

Stigma
Criminalisation, stigma, social exclusion49and climate of impunity
It has been seen that the State is considered as an instrument of violence which is often feared by the
sex workers instead of considering it as protector of rights. The police authorities abuse them, demand
sexual favors, illegally detain and torture them in custody. Their ability to seek protection from the
police is diminished because of the stigma which is attached to them because of the nature of their
work.
Sex work and Trafficking
It is said that the sex workers are lured by money or rather deceived into sex work and might be
trafficked as well, however there is an enormous no. who looks up to this profession as a source of
better life and livelihood and not deceived or lured into it. There is a difference between voluntarily
entering the profession and trafficking. In case of the former they are not coerced or deceived into sex
work they opt it voluntarily because of poverty or any such reason and the latter

Ferdinand State Forest Essay
Growing up in Southern Indiana, trips to the Ferdinand State Forest inspired many fantastic memories.
Who had the foresight to plan such an amazing place? Who chronicled the history of the Ferdinand
State Forest? According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, In 1933, a local conservation
club raised funds to buy 900 acres to build a lake and establish an area to hunt and fish. The Ferdinand
State Forest plans started at a hunting party on Saturday, December 9, 1933, John Bartley, Sylvester

  • 2. I Am A C + Does Not Sit Well With Anyone A C+ does not sit well with anyone. For me, that great sense of academic disappointment came in the form of EECS 183 Elementary Programing Concepts. As a freshman, I was incredibly excited to be exploring the plethora of academic disciplines available to me at the University of Michigan. Having never been exposed to computer science, I decided to enroll in the introductory course. I was also heavily influenced by my academic peers and hall mates, many who were interested in programming apps or websites, and few of whom were pursuing degrees in computer science engineering. With a slightly skewed sense confidence instilled in me by my friends, I began learning how to program amidst many other academic subjects I was engulfed in as a Spanish major and pre med prospective. At first, I couldn t get enough of the course. Every day, I approached the course material as a new, fun, engaging puzzle that I would need to figure out. It was like learning a language all over again. In fact, we were learning to program in a new language (C++ at first and then Python to finish the semester) which made me feel as though I could now communicate with a whole new world of people. I was very engaged in the homework, lectures, and discussions because I realized I would have to figure out different ways to solve problems and think in an entirely unique manner than I was used to. However, I learned quickly that the computer scientist mindset was one that not all students possessed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water has been important because it is one of the most abundant substance on Earth. Water is important because every living thing contains water, and every living thing must have water to function. Water is important whether it is e drunk a supper or if it is being used for survival in the desert. Water is important because it is required for man to live, breath and thrive on this planet. In the article, How Much Water Do We Actually Need, J. Lunn and R. Foxen state, Water is an essential requirement for life without water, humans can only survive for 2 to 3 days at the most (336). These four phases indicate when the athlete should hydrate. Prehydration and hydration are similar because both refer to hydrating before competition. While prehydration refers to hydrating a few days before a competition, hydration refers to hydrating throughout the day of the competition (Okanovic et al. 69 70). Dehydration is the loss of water from the body. While Prehydration and hydration have to do with hydrating prior to competition, rehydration is rehydrating the body after a competition (Okanovic et al. 70). Dehydration is a serious condition and should not be taken lightly While the body not having enough water is a big issue for athletes, too much water can also be a problem. In the article, How Much Water Do We Actually Need, it states, If an individual consumes too much water, this can lead to water intoxication with potentially life threatening hyponatraemia (Lunn and Foxen 336 337). While an athlete should be careful on over consuming water, an athlete also needs to consume enough water to last throughout a competition. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The enduring nature and extensive range of the debate about dividend policy has spawned a vast amount of literature that grows by the day. For this reason, a full review of all debates is not feasible1. However, this paper endeavours to give justice to the importance of both the topic of dividend policy as an area of financial economic research, and also to the literature that has been produced addressing that topic, by reviewing the most important and influential studies in this area. It attempts to outline the main theories and explanations of dividend policies and to review the main empirical studies on corporate dividend policy. The remaining of this paper is organized as follows. Section 2 gives a short background of corporate dividend policy. Section 3 analyses the theories of dividend policy starting with the dividend irrelevance hypothesis of Miller and Modigliani, and then the alternative hypotheses including bird inthe hand, tax preference, clientele effects, signalling, and agency costs hypotheses. Section 4 summarises the paper. 2. Background of Corporate Dividend Policy2 The issue of corporate dividends has a long history and, as Frankfurter and Wood (1997) observed, is bound up with the development of the corporate form itself. This can lead them to make decisions that have can create major consequences for others and themselves, all for personal gain. This idea was widely acted upon in the 1920 s, where so many people had not known that their actions would lead to, creating The Great Depression. One of the more important Consequences was called the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl was an event caused by the rise of farming in the 1920 s, which continues to affect the way we grow our crops to this very day. The Dust Bowl was known as a large section of the US that was covered in a large amount of powerful dust storms, which was caused by over excessive farming during the 1920 s. Like many things during the time period, farming had started to become more and more profitable. In fact, farming had been getting more profitable since WW1. However, this caused people to become greedy. People would farm more and more land each year, in an effort to produce better results. Farmers plowed away at field after field, unaware that anything negative would occur from it. As said in the article The Dust Bowl on USHistory.com, What was unknown to these early pioneers was that the grass and trees of the plains essentially nourished and held the soil in place with their tough roots, (3). Various programs have been introduced in schools to provide accurate health information to young people and enhance their skills in communication and decision making. This empowers individuals to make their own safe choices and decreases health risks. Information on sexual health has also been incorporated into the school syllabus, so it is being taught in schools to the students by teachers. Raising awareness of STIs through media, for the general public, is a strategy being used to spread information. The Sexual Health and Relationship Education (Share) program was created by SHine SA, South Australian Department of Health and the Department of Education and Children s Service in 2006, involving 15 schools across South Australia. Their aim was to improve the sexual health, safety and well being of young people in South Australia through an educational program. Although the program did not result in substantial development of health knowledge, it created stronger family and community bonds and students felt more confident discussing issues with their parents. The Share program has now become the Focus Schools Program, which is being delivered in 102 schools across South Australia. There has also an adaptation called the Aboriginal Schools Focus program which has been specifically implemented for Aboriginal schools. Creating supportive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the 16th century, as there was a demographic collapse of the indigenous population, there was now a new demand for slave labor in Latin America. In Brazil, the Portuguese needed a large workforce to cultivate sugar plantations. As a result, numerous slaves from Africa were imported to work on large plantation fields. In various plantations, rural slaves experienced harsh working and living conditions. Few slaves had a high life expectancy. Robert Edgar Conrad in Children of God s Fire, shares some primary sources that dealt with the types of environments and conditions many slaves faced and encountered in Brazil. The sources also gave insight into the regulations and economics/business of the slave trade. Conrad states that rural Brazil was a hell for blacks (Conrad 54). Many slaves dealt with extremely harsh conditions just to keep the European market in Latin American growing and profitable. This paper will analyze how rural slaves lived and worked on Brazilian sugar plantations. To start, in Brazil the Portuguese become convinced that full scale exploitation of the land was imperative for the safety of their entire overseas empire. Sugar cultivation was the ideal crop to guarantee the existence of a profitable colony. As a result, the Portuguese dominated the Atlantic slave trade. All snowflakes are composed of exactly the same material, but when scrutinized, no two are the same. The same can be said about two narratives which may contain the same story but the meaning can change when recounted by different narrators. The difference in narratives can be observed in the novel and film adaptation of Me and You written by Niccolò Ammaniti s and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. All stories contain a mixture of constituent and supplementary events. The overall constituent events that must be present in Me and You are that Lorenzo must first lie about leaving for a week long ski trip, then he must hide in a cellar, after which Olivia rest with her brother until the week ends. Both Ammaniti and Bertolucci insert supplementary events that although do not move the story forward or directly affect the constituent events, add meaning to their perspective of the story. The supplementary event which Ammaniti attaches to his narrative occurs when he writes the scene about Lorenzo and his mother were stuck in a traffic jam on the Corso Vittorio. On the other hand, Bertolucci incorporates the scene where Oliva invites a friend to the cellar to further strengthen his vision for his narrative. Meanwhile Ammaniti crafts his narrative to present the reader with Italy s imperfections and perfections, Bertolucci limits the audience s knowledge of the Italy outside of Lorenzo s bunker to bring us to a closer meaning of ... Throughout United States history there have been multiple economic booms that were underestimated and followed by recessions. In the situation of the 2007 2008 global financial crisis many culprits have been identified as causes, such as loose monetary policy, credit booms, deregulation, over complexity, and greed. Since the prime mortgage market had receded, lenders were encouraged to lower their requirements for lending and began to allow subprime mortgages. Increases in foreclosures raise the supply of available houses, which lowers the fair market values of houses. The prime mortgage homeowners were left with houses that were highly devalued relative to their mortgages and began to abandon their mortgage obligations. Nationalism allowed for non Jewish Germans to understand that Jewish were not like them. For the fact that Jewish had a shared history, culture, and langue that is different from other Germans. The creation of shared identities allows for those who appear to not have these qualifications to be discriminated against. When a nation holds tightly to nationalistic standards it leads down a path towards a genocide. Hitler speeches and writing are based on who is German. Unbound by friendships or any close ties, Marlow is able to survey the Congo and its colonists from an outsider s perspective. As previously noted, he refers to them as pilgrims as a means of detaching himself. He comments on how when attacked by natives, The pilgrims had opened with their Winchesters, and were simply squirting lead into that bush (Conrad 41). By distancing himself from the others, Marlow is able to recognize the pointlessness of the chaotic violence the Europeans perpetuate. Though his distaste for European methods is not always well defined, it is definitely evident, seeming to escalate as he travels further along the Congo. Perhaps, then, the heart of darkness that Marlow so frequently says he is journeying into is not the jungle itself, but rather the truth about European brutality. At the core of this heart, both physically and symbolically, lies the Inner Station, where Marlow finds Kurtz. When Marlow first hears about Kurtz, he is fascinated. The colonists rave, He is a prodigy...He is an emissary of pity, and science, and progress, and devil knows what else (Conrad 22). These colonists are naïve, uninformed, beholding Kurtz as ... The Contra was set up in such a way that there would be two lines facing each other one line would be men and the other line would be woman. In the beginning I also struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. While it has its negatives, the way this book was written and the deeper meaning to be found once you look closer into the book outweigh said negatives. In the book No Longer at Ease by Chinua Achebe, morals are tested and eventually lost. The author places the main character, Obi Okonkwo, into many financial struggles and tests his idea of being an incorruptible person. Eventually Obi falls to the corruption of bribery and is arrested. The author makes a lot of effort in placing Obi in financial situations where he just cannot keep up with all of the expenses and at times makes bad financial decisions. Obi s constant struggle with his fiancée, Clara, his parents, and the Umuofian Progressive Union beat down Obi s will to continue struggling to pay his expenses and takes the easy way out. This book is about several major themes, but one in particular stands out to me: colonization versus traditional living among the Nigerians. The Africans that have the experience with the teachings of the English begin to become naturally greedy. Drafting is the beginning, it s the opportunity to discover what you have to say and how best to say it (Murray). Editing is a way of correcting a piece over time to make writing less blocked so words will come more easily (Elbow). • 42. Why Is Swing Better Than Traditional Jazz A few years later that jazz was born in 1930 another style was created and it is call swing. Also called the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the most popular style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted the one that made people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does not mean that one is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people and it is hard to describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music consisted in five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm section with the guitar, bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that people were crazy about. Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing feeling although in swing there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed musicians to have an advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a melody. Because big bands in the swing era could not do collective improvisations bands started to use more arrangements and the improvisation was only with solos. • 43. Questions On Google File System 4 Modern Distributed File System 4.1 GFS (Google File System) Google File System (GFS) as a proprietary file system was first published by ACM 2003 Article, and was developed by Google for its own use. Its design goal was to provide efficient, reliable access to a large amount of data using clusters of commodity hardware. Those cheap commodity computers will bring the high failure rate of individual nodes and the subsequent data loss. So GFS has some strategies to deal with the system failure. GFS also supports for high data throughputs, even when it comes at the cost of latency. In GFS, files are extremely rarely overwritten, or shrunk. When these files need to be modified, it only adds append to those files. A GFS cluster consists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only when all chunk servers send back acknowledge, the changes can be saved on the system. This strategy guarantees the completion and atomicity of the operation. Client application accesses the files by first querying the Master server for the locations of the desired chunks; with these information the client can contact with the chunk servers directly for further operations. But if the chunks are being operated on (i.e. there are outstanding leases exist), the client cannot access those files at this time. GFS is not implemented in the kernel of an operating system, but is instead provided as a user space library. 4.2 HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is developed from GFS, so it has almost the same architecture with GFS, master/slave architecture. HDFS is designed to hold large amount of data (terabytes or even petabytes) and distributes the data in a cluster of connected computers. HDFS, as the important part of Hadoop, usually handles those data with large size. It puts the large data into small chunks, which is usually 64 megabytes, and stores three copies of each chunk into different data nodes (chunk servers). By fragmenting the large data and distributing them into different datanodes allow client application to read data from distributed files and perform operations by using MapReduce. but is an open source system developed using GFS as a ... • 44. The Importance Of High School Athletes In Sports Bobby Unser once said Success is where preparation and opportunity meet. . This quote is relevant to this subject, because if the athlete works hard at preparing himself to excel at his grades he should be granted the opportunity to play sports. High school athletes should be required to acquire a certain GPA in order to participate in sports for a multitude of reasons, including: First, having higher grades would teach the players to work hard in order to participate in activities they enjoy. Second, after the student graduates from high school, colleges are going to look at their GPA in order for the athletes to qualify for a scholarship whether for athletics or academics (Blake). Lastly, playing sports is a privilege, not a priority (Reeves). The players having to maintain a certain GPA would teach them hard work. It would teach them hard work by showing the players they won t receive everything just handed to them. It would also show the athletes that they need to work hard in order to be able to do the extracurricular activities they enjoy doing. The athletes learning hard work would help them in college because they need to know how to work hard on their education in college. Lastly, learning hard work from obtaining a high GPA is that if the player proves he can work hard academically it will also prove that he can work hard as an athlete (Wells) After high school if the athlete wants to attend college they will need to have a certain GPA. They will need a certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Essay On Lower House Of Government The United States and France are two countries with similar ways of electing the lower house of government. Both countries are divided into districts with single member representation. However, the United States uses a majority system, first past the post, while France uses a majority plurality, two round system. With each system there are separate advantages and disadvantages. Nonetheless, the first past the post system used in the United States is more efficient, cost effective, and comprehendible to the average person. The United States of America elects the lower house of government using simple majority. This system can also be described as a plurality, or first past the post. The United States is divided into 435 different districts by population, with one individual representing each constituency. Members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of government in the United States, are elected every two years. Under plurality, the individual who receives the most votes receives the seat in the House of Representatives. The individual may not always receive the majority of votes because more than two individuals may receive votes. This leads to wasted votes in that everyone who voted for the losing candidate does not have their vote represented. In addition, more seats may be given to a political party than votes received. If a political party receives a plurality of votes with thirty percent nationwide, they may be the new majority party but seventy percent of the country still voted for somebody else. (Hoard, ... • 47. Don John Character Analysis When thinking about the well known comedy Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare the audience is quick to focus on the wit and comedy that the play has to offer, rather than the understated villain who easily disappears in the background. While reading the play, one can posit that Don John is not the typical villain who acts with a specific motive in mind, rather, he is acting out of an obligation he feels to serve as an antagonist considering his position as a bastard. This is demonstrated in his dialogue, which reveals his inner turmoil on being chained to the villainous role and his willingness to act on any malicious opportunity that presents itself to him. This is significant in that, it provides another layer to our villain and causes the audience to think beyond the first layer that is easily presented, and into the true inner motives of the character. Don John claims that the resentment people have towards him is rooted in the fact that he is a bastard and any friendly intentions towards him are fraudulent ones. From the beginning of the play Don John does not come across as a friendly figure, especially compared to the rest of the soldiers that come with the party to Messina in a flourish of good and excitement. As Leonato welcomes the party he seems to implicate that he is extending the welcome on to Don John, because of his relationship with Don Pedro, the prince and his brother. Don John remarks in a conversation, ...it better fits my blood to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
