Alcohol And The Social Network
In the study Alcohol and the Social Network: Online Social Networking Sites and College Students
Perceived Drinking Norms, Fournier, Hall, Ricke, and Storey studied the absence or presence of
alcohol content on social media and how it would effect the participants perceived drinking norms of
college students (Fournier et al., 2013, Pg. 86). Their hypothesis was that subjects that were in the
alcohol content group would estimate higher college alcohol norms than the group that did not see the
Facebook page with alcohol content in it (Fournier et al., Pg. 88). Another predicted, the drinker type
that the subject is (binge drinkers vs. non binge drinkers) would interact with the condition (non

college students alcohol use. In this study, the independent variables were the differences between
what was seen on the fictitious Facebook page, whether it included alcohol or non alcohol content,
and binge drinkers vs. non binge drinkers (Fournier et al., 2013, Pg. 89). The dependent variable is the
questionnaire that each of the groups took. It measured the following: personal alcohol use,
information about the fictitious profile, perceived drinking norms, and frequency and quantity in
which a student consumes alcohol per week (Fournier et al., 2013, Pg. 89). The fictitious Facebook
page only changed the content that was shown. In the study there were fifty seven participants; 39
female and 18 men, from the University in Midwestern United States. They recruited from an
introductory psychology class, and participants voluntarily signed up. The group was not as diverse,
but they were from different class years and aged from eighteen to thirty three. After the study was
over the participants were put into two groups: non binge drinkers and binge drinkers, based on their
answer on the questionnaire about how many drinks they consumed per sitting

China, A Home And Folk Remedy
The essay gives a synopsis of Chinese culture in terms of life processes, health and illness,
Maintaining wellness, causes of illness, traditional way of healing the cure, and the impact of cultural
background of health professional during treatment. The context of this essay will highlight the
concept of cultural stereotype and its influence on ones health due to the customs and beliefs. In china,
a home and folk remedy is a conventional way of treating illness and is preferred over the western
medical practices. (Dixon.B, 2009, pp. 4 5). Some orthodox Chinese communities assume that
incongruity of qi and yin and yang disturbs the health of people. (Dixon.B, 2009, pp. 4 5). The beliefs

Traditional Chinese practices have great contribution in maintaining wellness in china. The psychiatric
wellness is maintained when the activities of mind, body and soul combine together. (Dixon.B, 2009,

Indeed, the conventional Chinese Medicine is cultural asset of wellness (Heung.V, Kucukusta.D,

Health and Illness is determined by the interaction between healthy mind, body and soul. In china, self
stigmatization is very common in people with mental illness. For example, Young and Ng (2015, p.

self stigma. Due to the unhealthy mind and surroundings, it is hard for people to recover from illness.

Bernice Bobs Her Hair Essay
amp;#8220;Bernice Bobs Her Hair ;
Have you ever at one time or another felt like an outsider? Many people do, trying desperately to fit in
with their social counterparts. Whether it be in school, at work, or life in general, many yearn to be
accepted by their peers and feel as though they are a part of some sort of amp;#8220;club ; that is
viewed by others as the amp;#8220;in ; crowed. F. Scott Fitzgerald tries to express this turmoil with
the short story amp;#8220;Bernice Bob amp;#8217;s Her Hair ;. He attempts to show the inner
workings of the popular youth and the means in which one can successfully enter it. By creating the

It seemed Bernice had amp;#8220;stolen private property ; which allegedly belonged to Marjorie (1).
Sometime being popular will make one more territorial and suspicious of others which might hurt
them in the long run.
Without Marjorie amp;#8217;s guidance, however, Bernice would have stayed the naïve and shy, thus
keeping her from being accepted by the popular crowd. It was evident in the very beginning of the
story that she was uncomfortable in social situations. When Warren asked her if she would like to
dance at the party, she immediately told him that is was too crowded to dance and when asked to go
out to the veranda, she muttered that it was too hot and proceeded to stand there. It seems that Bernice,
being a poor conversationalist, feels too uncomfortable being with others. In a group Bernice is more
likely to be stay inconspicuous and just listen rather that beginning or entering a conversation.
Another example of her shy persona was when Warren and Bernice sat down on the veranda. It was
apparent she was very nervous about the situation; her knees were pressed together so tightly one
could have cracked a nut between them. Bernice is also very naïve and Marjorie took full advantage of
that. Her innocence led her to believe that Marjorie could make all her dreams come true, question
nothing, and following all orders from her. This is apparent at the dinner table when she announced
that she was going to bob her hair in the near

Strategic Management Of Tesco
Established in 1919 by Jack Cohen from a market stall in London s East End, Tesco has grown and
became the leading multinational retailer in the UK with a wide range of products. Tesco s operations
in the UK are the largest within Tesco PLC (Tesco, 2014). The success of Tesco lies in its strategic
management. This analysis will look into Tesco s business in the UK by following a structure of four
main parts: Tesco s value chain management; Tesco s important stakeholders and its managing them;
Tesco s attempt in competing with other rivals and finally, potential international opportunities for
Tesco to get more profit.

Sainsburys.co.uk website and using an independent agency to visit Morrison s store twice a week.
(Tesco, 2014). Besides, Tesco takes advantage of technology to attract more customers by introducing
their own tablet called Hudl and mobile apps that can be used for online shopping, viewing movies

Social Themes In To Kill A Mockingbird
In the 1960 s, an extremely large amount of men were falsely, or wrongly convicted of crimes, one of
these crimes being rape. To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, portrays the topic of rape in a
saddening and sickening manner. This novel is told from a old Scout, who is a part of the Finch
family, which goes through life s obstacles while helping anyone and everyone they can to their best
ability. While doing so, the father of the family is brought into a switched around rape case with a not
so happy ending. There are three main themes that make up the book, which are race, social class, and
innocence.
The first theme this story seems to show is social class. Back then, and even a little now, this
determined where you belonged, or who you belonged with. This theme is shown many times in this
book, not only to prove its meaning, but because it was so common before the 21st century. It s shown
greatly when Calpurnia states, There s some folks who don t eat like us, but you ain t called on to
contradict em at the table when they don t (Lee 24). This quote is said to a young Scout, who doesn t
quite know that she is judging someone when it s happening. She was confused and shocked from
what Walter was doing as he poured syrup all over his food. She didn t understand that he was only
trying to get as much as he can, and add some sort of flavor to his food because he doesn t get much
food as it is. In his family situation, they are very poor, and part of the lower social

Being A School Psychologist Means Interacting With Many...
Being a school psychologist means interacting with many types of people. These people may be of a
different race, culture, or religion. This means that a school psychologist must possess a high level of
compassion and respect for everyone they meet. Anticipating becoming a psychologist I know that I
must become comfortable around people who are different from myself. So, in order to expand my
horizons, I decided to participate in something that I felt would make me a better listener and
responder when the time came. In America, there is a growing population of students who are
transgender so I decided that this is a community of people I wanted to learn more about. To achieve

(Kenneth Merrell, 2012) Because the population of transgender students is so small, many
professionals neglect to research and study the physical and emotional challenges of transgender
students (many of whom remain hidden out of fear of rejection). Transgender students live in a world
where they are made to feel isolated and rejected by their peers and society. Being African American, I
know that our culture doesn t readily accept transgender people and we frown upon and ridicule a
parent who allows their child to choose a different gender. When the situation arises where someone in
our culture chooses to openly change genders we believe that it is a condition that will either pass or
can be prayed away. This way of thinking forces our children s worldview to be rooted in shame and
embarrassment and they begin to feel trapped in the wrong body with no way out and no one to talk
to. Their individual identity is questioned because they do not feel a part of any specific culture.
Knowing that through the acknowledgement of a student s identity, a school psychologist can avoid
stereotyping them or approaching them in a stereotypical way, (Kenneth Merrell, 2012), it is important
for transgender students to form a solid personal identity. However, so many transgender students feel
like they don t belong to any group of people and this is part of the reason why

Runic having a secret or mysterious meaning
The stone looked normal, but was runic to the tribe.
Balmy extremely foolish
The man looked balmy dancing in his underwear.
Euphony something sounded good/being pleasing to the ear
The woman s voice was as lulling as a birds, it was euphonic.
Expostulation to reason with some with kindness and earnesty
The man s drinking habits got so bad, that his brother needed to expostulate with him.

Paean a happy thing that shows enthusiastic praise
When his best friend won his talent competition, Jack wrote him a paean.
Tintinnabulation a sound in which ringing/tinkling occurs
When the church bells ring, tintinnabulation occurs.
Alliteration:
What a tale of terror, now their turbulency tells! line 38
When the t sound/letter is repeated, the rhythm of the line sounds much better, but it also adds a
happy, upbeat mood that gets added, which is weird because this stanza is talking about the alarm
bells, that warn of a dangerous situation.
Onomatopoeia:
How they clang, and clash, and roar! line 54
Onomatopoeia is added here and show the normal adjectives that are described with bells (clang and
clash), but Poe uses roar which is unusual and is typically not an adjective of bells. The one different
word starts with a different letter than the other two. However when the reader gives it a deeper

The Effects Of Drug Market Pulling Levers Policing On...
Lastly, we will look at the pulling lever strategy used in High Point. Like the authors say in The
Impact of Drug Market Pulling Levers Policing on Neighborhood Violence , the reason why they did
this study was to examine the impact of the various place‐based pulling levers interventions that were
implemented in High Point (Corsaro, Hunt, Hipple, McGarrell). The reader can interpret from the
article that the purpose is to conclude what context is needed for pulling lever strategies to work in
deterrence. They go into an in‐depth statistical analysis describing the sensitivity present as there
could be things like types of selection biases. Statisticians must be careful when navigating data as we
found before where the Panel could not conclude that the pulling lever strategies had a direct
relationship between the crime rates. In the article they do come to a conclusion where they find that
although pulling levers has shown potential when focused on gangs and groups involved with
networks of chronic, violent offenders, far less is known about its capacity to diminish violent crime
associated with locally operated street drug markets (Corsaro, Hunt, Hipple, McGarrell). Essentially, it
is describing the limitations that are presented with pulling lever strategies. Like multiple of the other
articles, they have found that this strategy works for gang related violence. They question whether the
strategy would be as effective if it were applied to crime that is associated

There are various materials which can be used on aircrafts. Composite and alloy materials are the
primary component used due to the ability to combine certain materials with different strengths
together to create a composite or alloy. These have ultimate properties that are needed to create an
aircraft to be used safely in application. Composites are used due to the extreme high strength to
weight ratio, although using large amounts of metals can be strong, unlike composites this would be
too heavy. Composites essentially are designed to create a lighter aircraft, which over a long period of
time, would be more cost effective for company running the plane, due to fuel savings.

Due to the lack of corrosion resistance, it is common to add a clad layer of aluminium 1100, which
provides the resistance to corrosion. Adding the extra aluminium as a clad causes the weight and cost
to rise. Due to this, many different alloys were created to allow the aircrafts to be lighter and cheaper
to manufacture and run such as aluminium Lithium. Aluminium lithium alloys are used on modern
aircrafts like the Boeing 777 and the 787 dreamliner. A typical aluminium lithium alloy is Aluminium
2090 T83.
Aluminium 2090 T83 is an aluminium lithium alloy which consists of many different materials; AL,
Cr, Cu, Fe, Li, Mg, Mn, Si, Ti, Zn and Zr. The alloy is a light weight material and offers a higher
strength to weight ratio than other materials that are currently being used due to the low lithium
content. The advantage that it has over the 2024 is that 2090 T83 does not need a clad of aluminium as
the alloy resists corrosion, the material as a whole is less dense and has a higher strength properties.
Aluminium lithium alloys are also easy to machine, making welds easier than other alloys creating it
to be cheaper to manufacture and maintain.
Alloy 2090 T83 is primarily designed to be used in applications where high strength requirements are
necessary. Currently the alloy is used for aircraft bulkhead stiffeners to take advantage of the high
strength and lower density to achieve a substantial weight reduction. This material is also used in the

Lady Macbeth
Lady Macbeth is the most interesting and complex character in the play. She is, in fact, the point on
which the action pivots: without her there is no play.
Macbeth s most interesting and complex character is most certainly, as the question states, Lady
Macbeth. The purpose of this essay is to describe Lady Macbeth s role in the play and discuss why
this makes her the most fascinating character. Her evil doings are the main reasons why she dominates
the plot so greatly. These include the following: considers Macbeth to be a wimp not wanting to
murder; letting Macbeth fulfill her plan; taking control over Macbeth s thoughts and actions; turning
Macbeth from a loyal man to a greedy, coldhearted human being. Also ... Show more content on

Still asleep Lady Macbeth asks, what, will these hands ne re be clean? foreseeing that she will never
have peace of mind. This change in character is truly remarkable considering her dominant nature in
Acts one and two.
The transformation of the relationship between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth is another interesting part
of Lady Macbeth. In acts one and two their relationship is strong and loving. This strength is shown
when Macbeth agreements to conduct his wife s plans because of a threat Lady Macbeth made to take
away her love. This meant Macbeth was essentially willing to kill so that his relationship with Lady
Macbeth continued.
After the murder and the crowning of Macbeth the once strong relationship between Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth rapidly deteriorates, so much so that when Macbeth hears of his wife s death he does
not feel any emotion what so ever. When Macbeth became king he and his wife rarely saw each other
as Macbeth was occupied in running and protecting Scotland and also himself. At this stage (acts three
and four) in the play Lady Macbeth s role is not as evident but when she did make appearances they
were usually important to the plot.
At the beginning Lady Macbeth finds strength to lure Macbeth to murder King Duncan and to commit
the murder herself. As the play progresses, her apparent strength diminishes as she fights

Alcohol manufacturers use a variety of unscrupulous techniques to advertise alcoholic beverages to
children. Perhaps the worst example is Anheuser Busch Co., the world s largest brewer, which uses
child enticing cartoon images of frogs, dogs, penguins and lizards in ads for Budweiser beer. These
Budweiser cartoon characters are hugely popular with children, just like Joe Camel ads. A KidCom

A municipality may not, therefore, simply pass a law saying All alcohol advertising shall be
prohibited. This would clearly be an unconstitutional infringement on commercial speech, as well as
vague and overly broad. Municipalities must be selective and regulate those types of advertising
which they can prove are linked to increasing minor consumption of alcohol.
Billboards
Billboards are a major forum for alcohol advertising. Children and teenagers are regularly subjected to
these types of advertisements, but parents cannot effectively control their children s exposure to
alcohol billboards. Billboards cannot be turned off like other types of advertising. A municipality
probably may ban billboards advertising alcohol, if it can demonstrate that these billboards have an
adverse effect on minors. The Supreme Court has found that billboards are a unique form of
advertising and subject to extensive regulation. The City of Baltimore recently banned outdoor alcohol
advertising and defeated the advertiser s free speech argument in court. A federal circuit court upheld
the ban on alcohol advertising on billboards as not an unconstitutional infringement of the advertiser s
right of free speech.

Children and teenagers are adversely affected by advertising that glamorizes alcohol consumption.

What Is Symbolism In Temptation Of Saint Hilarion
The feeling of temptation is an emotion most people have felt in their lives. Temptation has been
illustrated in Christian religion since the beginning with Adam and Eve. Portraying the emotion of
temptation has varied from artist to artist, in all; the viewer will continuously understand the
awareness of the feeling. The oil painting Temptation of Saint Hilarion by Octave Tassaert was painted
around 18571. When examining this art for the first time, the viewer is thrown into a world of dark
colors and emotion. As our eyes grow accustomed to the image, we start to understand the message
behind the madness of temptation. In the next few paragraphs, we shall analyze Tassaert s work by

In order to inform others of the truth in his book, The Feast Of The Goat, Mario Vargas Llosa includes

Political Participation Essay
American political parties are unique, because the only qualification is self identification. Of course,
several factors impact how an individual politically identifies themselves. These factors may include
family life, childhood environment, etc. One major aspect is education level. How an individual s
education level impacts their political self identification in the political spectrum is a well researched
topic. Education influences the binary decision to participate in politics, whether it be through voting
or some other form of political activism. Education level also shapes an individual s various policy
positions. Most directly, education (specifically political literacy) affects how well they perceive the
larger political landscape and where they fit into it.
Education and Political Participation

their article Education and Political Participation: Exploring the Causal Link . They compared levels

public in The Nature of Political Ideology in the Contemporary Electorate . They did this by focusing
on responses to 23 questions from the 2000 American National Election Study that reflect a variety of
politically relevant issues (Treier and Hillygus 684). This way, they could see how well a person s
policy positions correlated to their ideological identification. These questions covered both economic
and social issues, so they were able to look at economic/social policy positions as independent of each

Analysis Of The Documentary Nigel Morris Empire Of Light
Nigel Morris Empire of Light offers numerous criticisms of Spielberg s Indiana Jones series. His
conclusions draw on the subconscious biases of the film with topics ranging from American
imperialism, anti feminism, and the white man s burden . Morris argues the hero the white, American,
and masculine Jones is inseparable from these identities (pg. 77). While he makes interesting points
about the role of Marion and other characters in relation to Jones to support this argument, as he
acknowledges, Spielberg has contended, it is only a movie . Morris rejects this claim by insisting, an
analogous process... occurs during viewing, the result of alignment with inscribed spectators and with
the filmmakers through recognized intertextuality (pg. 80). He dismisses Spielberg s counterargument
as a simple cliché and claims that viewers will be hit with subtle ideological biases when they are
most vulnerable. He makes valid points about the American idealism that Indiana Jones represents and
the stereotypical foreign nations which hosts his exotic escapades, but at the same time he neglects
many scenes across the films that show a deeper side of the action hero. Both Raiders of the Lost Arc
and Temple of Doom contain examples that contradict the narrative and demonstrates a more complex
film.
Indiana Jones is primarily based of the serials of the 1930 s which were overrun by stereotypes of
women and foreigners. They depicted an almost senseless violence where the white male hero

Final Paper (Summary of Endangered Species Act)
Endangered Species Act What is an endangered species? is a question that needs to be addressed
before getting known of endangered species act. An endangered species is a population of organisms
which is at risk of becoming extinct due to three possible reasons: it is few in numbers. According to
the theory of Exponential Growth Curve proposed by Malthus, a lower population tends to have a
lower reproductive rate and thus a higher risk of going extinct; or a species is threatened by changing
environment. A species which fail to adapt a new environment by means such as mutation which

In the second category, there are three conservation statuses which are critically endangered ,
endangered and vulnerable . They differ in the risk of extinction; critically endangered species has the
highest risk of extinction, followed by the remaining two. The third category consists of 3
conservation statuses: conservation dependent , near threatened and least concern , which differ from
one another in terms of their needs to be included into conservation programs. By understanding the
risk of going extinct of each species according to the Red List, international organizations and state
governments can develop appropriate conservation program corresponding to each of them. Different
graph and statistics about the situation of endangered species in the world have been collected:
Graph 1(IUCN Red List, 2007) Graph 1 above shows the percentage species in several groups which
are list in the second category: either critically endangered, endangered or vulnerable. As shown in the
graph, amphibians have the relatively largest proportion (around 30%) in second category compared to
other animal kingdoms, followed by mammals (around 20%) and birds (around 12.5%).

The Four Roles Of Mentoring And Mentoring In The Odyssey
The origin of the term mentor dates back to the near end of 18th century BC, when the Greek epic
poem Odyssey, written by Homer, is believed to have been composed. As the main character,
Odysseus, embarks in a 20 year long journey, he asks his friend, Mentor, to guide his son during his
absence. Mentor accepts it, and acts as a father figure, teacher, role model, leader, and friend to
Telemachus (Online Etymology Dictionary).
Modern interpretations of mentoring pinpoint four distinct roles which mentors are expected to play:
role modeling, sponsorship, coaching, and counseling the mentee. These many roles are played by the
mentor so the mentee is able to accomplish personal and professional growth. These mentoring roles

Thus they search for different ways of carrying out their activities successfully. Also organizations
must consider a range of factors that meet stakeholder s expectations since no organization exists
without their cooperation.
Meyer and Herscovitch (2001) argue that commitment is an energy that attracts an individual to
behave in accordance to the importance of a given task. Additionally, they claim that varying levels of
dedication result in different behaviors. Thus, it can be said that commitment also has the potential to
affect employees performance and loyalty to the organizations (Schminke 2011). Although there are
many different concepts of the connection between personal and organizational values, Kristof (as
cited in Finegan 2010) has defined it as:
The compatibility between people and organizations that occurs when: (a) at least one entity provides
what the other needs, or (b) they share similar fundamental characteristics, or (c) both (p. 5).
Therefore, the nature and extent of the relationship between organization and stakeholder, and also its
dynamics must be considered in mentoring programs (Pettinger

What Is The Zeigarnik Effect
In psychology, the Zeigarnik effect states that people remember uncompleted or interrupted tasks
better than completed tasks. In Gestalt psychology, the Zeigarnik effect has been used to demonstrate
the general presence of Gestalt phenomena: not just appearing as perceptual effects, but also present in
cognition. he advantage of remembrance can be explained by looking at Lewin s field theory: a task
that has already been started establishes a task specific tension, which improves cognitive accessibility
of the relevant contents.[3] The tension is relieved upon completion of the task. If the task is
interrupted, the reduction of tension is impeded. Through continuous tension, the content is made
more easily accessible, and can be easily remembered.[3] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we are holding things in short term memory, we have to rehearse them otherwise they
disappear, like a light going out. This requires cognitive effort, and the more things we are rehearsing
the more effort. The waiter s trick is thus to keep spinning the plates of the open orders whilst letting
those which are completed fall.
A similar effect also happens over a longer period as we worry about those things in which we have

Analysis of Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan
Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of a group of adolescents, searching for the one
situation that will proclaim them as bad boys and how their minds change. As the story begins, the
narrator gives the impression that he feels he and the others boys should have taken notice of some
obvious clues about themselves. These clues would have led them to the conclusion that they were far
from the bad guys they wished to be. However, the oblivious teenagers ignore these obvious signs and
continue in search of their goal.
In this story, Boyle uses many symbols to create the theme. The individual vehicles are each symbols

The discovery of the biker s body is the turning point in not only the story, but also in the narrator s
life. In a short time, he has been beaten, has knocked out someone with a tire iron, almost raped a
woman, found a dead body, and watched his mother s Bel Air station wagon be destroyed. Which was
all done for the rush of excitement. While hiding in the water that was previously seen as a tarn of
doom, with all the nights occurrences spinning in his head, he has an epiphany. Standing there he
realizes what becomes of tough guys and discovers that he has found his salvation within his true self.
Accordingly, as the narrator emerges from Greasy Lake, he is a new person with a newly discovered
perspective. As the sun is rising and the songs of birds replace the sounds of crickets, he leaves the
pool of once dismal waters (Boyle 118). This signals his rebirth and his baptism as a reformed
adolescent.
The narrator shares this story from his youth in the words of an educated man. His actions as a teen
are in stark contrast to his phraseology as an adult. Early in the story, he viewed nature as sex, drugs
and rock and roll (Boyle 112 113). However, as the story ends and the turmoil subsides, the narrator
sees nature for the first time, through the eyes of a person matured by this traumatic experience. The
sun firing buds and opening blossoms replaced the once revered beer and

Biomechanics Of The Tympanic Membrane

BIOE 154: Introduction to Biomechanics
Professor Norman
Biomechanics of the Tympanic Membrane
Background: Over the past years, bioengineers have applied different methods for modelling the
human ear. The human ear is an intricate biomechanical system with its primary function to sound
perception and reception. The ear is divided into 3 main components, each with its own unique
functions: the outer ear (pinna), the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear, or the pinna, consists
of the auricle, the skin covered cartilage of the ear visible on the outside of the head, as well as the
opening to the auditory canal. The middle ear refers the air filled hollow space (tympanic cavity)
behind the eardrum or tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane is a thin, cone shaped membrane
that separates the outer ear from the middle ear (Figure 1a). The tympanic membrane is made up of
two main parts: the fragile pars flaccida (upper region) and robust the pars tersa (lower region). The
pars tersa, composed of three layers: skin, fibrous tissue, and mucus, makes up the majority of the
tympanic membrane. The pars flaccida is often associated with eustachian tube malfunctions and
choleostomas, whereas the pars tersa is associated with perforations. There are 3 bones, the malleus,
incus, and stapes, in the middle ear (Figure 1b) that vibrate when exposed to the vibrations of the
sound waves. The malleus is attached to the medial surface of the tympanic

Pop Art And Its Influence On American Culture
If Pop art was a from of realism, it was a realism that represented the ways American consumer
culture had altered the perception of reality itself. Pop artists imagined themselves confronting a world
in which the scale and compass of consumer capitalism, with its near total saturation of society,
exceeded traditional perceptual structures (Miller 598). Pop Art movement took place in various cities
but mainly in New York in the sixties and became popular within two or three years. Artist from this
movement worked on imagery originally created for the base amusement of lowbrows (Scherman 68).
This movement took place to get rid of boundaries between high art and low culture. I think the artist s
concept behind their work to show everyone that there is no hierarchy of culture. Pop Art was mainly
about using other artists work and adding their own influential characteristics to it. The three
commonly known artist from Pop Art movement were Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and James
Rosenquist. Roy Lichtenstein lived in the Jersey suburbs and was an art professor at Rutgers
University. At the age 37 Roy was smuggling comic strip characters into his otherwise unremarkable
abstractions when it hit him: Why not make paintings that look just like comic books (Scherman 71).

Figurative Language In Sailing The Byzantium
Literature is always personal, always one man s vision of the world, one man s experience (W.B. Yeats
n.d.). Such perspicacity is evident in the works of William Butler Yeats, whose poetry reflects his
fascination with mysticism and the days of yore. The poem Sailing the Byzantium illustrates how
William Butler Yeats use of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the parallels between ancient
civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of obsolescence and perpetuity.
Yeats elegy, details a metaphoric spiritual journey of renewal to the holy city seeking intellectual
refuge within an artifice of eternity (Yeats, Lines 16,24). His use of figurative language elicits both the
somber and nostalgic tones evident throughout the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the second stanza, Yeats use of the metonymic phrase: Aged man...A tattered coat
upon a stick poignantly conveys the not only narrator s image of his own aging mortal form but the
insignificance of his existence among his youthful countrymen (Lines 9,10). Most notably, the use of
dramatic metaphors in Line 11 and 12, Soul clap its hands and sing...but studying Monuments of its
own magnificence , personifies the soul as a song. In addition, it articulates the idea that one s soul
achieves perpetuity, not through sensual song, but through the erudition of ancient civilization (Yeats,
Lines 7, 11,14). Yeats use of apostrophe and simile in Lines 17 22: O sages ...As in gold mosaic
...Come from the holy fire, perne in gyre...Consume my heart away; sick with desire And fastened to a
dying animal , illuminates the narrator s yearning to relinquish earthly chains. Furthermore, his use of

Beethoven was born on December 17, 1770 in Bonn, Germany. Bonn was a pleasant city. It was very

Taking a Look at Pharmacists
Pharmacy is an essential part of modern day health care. Pharmacists today are well trained, highly
skilled and easily accessible to the public. However, pharmacy was not always as convenient and
advanced as it currently is today. Since the times of prehistoric man, pharmacy has evolved greatly
over the years and has become a safer, more efficient and more important part of society.
There are still many opinions about pharmacy s origin because many theories are based on logic and
analogies rather than concrete evidence. Much is known about prehistoric diseases due to the damage
of people s bodies found by archaeologists in ancient bones. However, finding evidence of early man
trying to use natural resources as medicinal drugs is scarce. Prehistoric man viewed the causes of
diseases as wraths from supernatural or spiritual beings. This caused our ancient ancestors to practice
a type of magic which used plants and often objects for rituals to make peace with evil and disease
causing spirits ( Kremers, 3).
The ancient people learned many things from instinct. Things like water, an herb or mud were most
likely man s first soothing applications. Trial and error helped man learn which substances brought the
best results and shared them with other people. The advanced profession of pharmacy most likely
evolved from simple and crude methods used by our ancient ancestors (A History 1).
The farthest date that pharmacy can be traced back to is about 4000 B.C. The Sumerian population

A common problem regarding compliance with the influenza vaccine is patients misconceptions that
the vaccine itself can potentially cause them to contract the flu. As sentinels at the forefront of health
of the community, it is critical (albeit profoundly challenging) for pharmacists to educate patients on
these misunderstandings. First and foremost, the inactivated vaccine by definition cannot cause the
flu. Inactivated viruses are so named because they have been relieved of their ability to replicate
themselves within cells and thus cannot cause disease. It is also important to note that the Advisory
Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has recommended discontinuation of the use of live

Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory
Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey
Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing
movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well
as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and
connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept
of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to
and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole
researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey
Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster
one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general
(2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the
delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient
ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living
(Dosseydossey.com).
Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse,
individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be
acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). The nurse plays a strong

Federalism And The Separation Of Powers
Federalism is a way of organizing a nation so that two or more levels of government have formal
authority over the same area and people, ensuring that one does not become too powerful and aids in
the separation of powers. Liberty is a state of freedom within a society from oppressive restrictions
imposed by authority on one s way of life, behavior, or political views. Although these two political
science terms are different, they correlate and interact with one another in the American Government
and are still relevant to contemporary policy issues faced today. James Madison s The Federalist No.
47 doctrine exemplifies this: In order to form correct ideas on this important subject, it will be proper
to investigate the sense in which the preservation of liberty requires that the three great departments of
power should be separate and distinct.
Madison based the concept of federalism on the French lawyer Montesquieu s theory of the separation
of powers. This theory states: Were the executive power not to have a right of restraining the
encroachments of the legislative body, the latter would become despotic; for as it might arrogate to
itself what authority it pleased, it would soon destroy all the other powers. Madison, along with the
other Founding Fathers, took heed to this warning and created the three branches (executive,
legislative, and judicial). Although this system does provide a distinct separation, it does not call for
absolute separation. Instead, the

method in english just like the past classes I had. On the very first day in the class, I quickly found out

Mrs. Garth had told us, that I was going to have many weaknesses while writing my papers, but I
would also have many strengths from what I had learned in the past about writing. In August, our first

writing. As a class, we knew there would be more writing than we were use to, but the very first paper
that Mrs. Garth told us to write was unlike any other paper I had ever wrote on my own. We were told
to write about our favorite foods, our not so favorite foods, or a tragedy that has happened to us in our
life. Of course, I wrote about the tragedy, my paper was written on the note of my grandmother
passing away. I used very descriptive details in my writing about what the days were like for me and

Advantages And Benefits Of TPPA In Malaysia
TPP provides many benefits and advantages to our country, Malaysia. This is so because TPPA help in
terms of economic progress. In line with the growing progress we should be wise in arranging step so
that our country can become a developed country like other countries in the world. For example,
Qatar, Luxembourg, Singapore, Brunei and Kuwait who are economically developed.
However, there are a variety of effects or impikasi that occur due to the establishment of the TPPA, led
by the United States. TPPA establishment indirectly affects the lives of citizens and also to the
development of the country. This has created concern to the people as a result of the establishment of
the TPPA can be seen now that the short term effects.
One of the effects of the TPPA involves an increase in the price of medicines. According to the TPPA
agreement, prices of medicines will increase between 60% and 80% from the current price. This
agreement will involve the regulation of medicines in generic drugs have changed that are not allowed
to be sold in the member countries of the TPPA. A generic drug is cheaper imitations that have the
same content and effect of the original drug. Thus, drugs can only be purchased directly from ... Show

TPPA is expected to abolish import duties on rice from the United States, which is currently charged at
40%. If the tax is abolished, the price of American rice will be cheaper than the price of local rice
because of high subsidies given to US government rice producer country, then it causes the price of
rice can not be matched by our country in rice prices. When this happens, the rice industry of our
country will become weak and farmers would suffer a loss of income sources is high because so far
our country uses its own agricultural products to be sold on the Malaysian market. As a result, we will

The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities
The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the
argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating that
he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 1945
Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held philosophy
of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their national
obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national loyalty leads
to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead preferring to focus on
distant and external evils.
Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse by
those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to the
very security that such systems ought to safeguard. As such, blowing the whistle on such activities can
be an effective mechanism of exposing the ills that characterize intelligence systems. Furthermore,
Scheurman (2014) argues that a requirement for whistleblower identity disclosure as proposed in
Sagar s framework enhances their opportunity to fulfill their obligations to justify their actions. They
further state that whistleblower identity disclosure demonstrates civic mindedness. In addition, the
disclosure of the whistle blower s identity helps to prevent

Bridget Jones Character Analysis
Throughout this novel, we see Bridget Jones having a breakdown as she writes her way through her
struggles. In the novel, the quote her nerves are shot to ribbons is used to describe Bridget. This is a
perfect quote to overlook the whole book honestly, because the meaning behind it is that she is either
disappointed or depressed. In most of her situations she never knows what to do. Her mom also
explains that she cannot stand her own problems and tries to solve them through others. This metaphor
is a huge part of this book because it is clear that Bridget has many issues she needs to work out.
The first major aspect in this novel would be the ideal of self perfection. In the article Contextualizing
Bridget Jones it says, Bridget is always trying to better herself with diets, self help books, and other
American pop culture (Marsh, 53) . In the end, she still is not happy with herself. She sees that
American way of how girls should look and feels this need to make all of these changes in her life by
starting a diary that begins with a list of things to better herself . One scene that was ironic was the
fact that after she lost a certain amount of weight she wanted, people said that she had looked better
the other way. Even if she thought she was doing the right thing, whether it was for her or for herself,
her wants/needs still were not met. In this novel we see that she is in a state of being disappointed in
whatever relationship she is dealing with or even herself. As

The dependent variable is the questionnaire that each of the groups took. The fictitious Facebook page only changed the content that was shown. In the study there were fifty seven participants; 39 female and 18 men, from the University in Midwestern United States. They recruited from an introductory psychology class, and participants voluntarily signed up. It was evident in the very beginning of the story that she was uncomfortable in social situations. When Warren asked her if she would like to dance at the party, she immediately told him that is was too crowded to dance and when asked to go out to the veranda, she muttered that it was too hot and proceeded to stand there. It seems that Bernice, being a poor conversationalist, feels too uncomfortable being with others. Another example of her shy persona was when Warren and Bernice sat down on the veranda. It was apparent she was very nervous about the situation; her knees were pressed together so tightly one could have cracked a nut between them. To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, portrays the topic of rape in a saddening and sickening manner. This novel is told from a old Scout, who is a part of the Finch family, which goes through life s obstacles while helping anyone and everyone they can to their best ability. While doing so, the father of the family is brought into a switched around rape case with a not so happy ending. There are three main themes that make up the book, which are race, social class, and innocence. The first theme this story seems to show is social class. Back then, and even a little now, this determined where you belonged, or who you belonged with. This theme is shown many times in this book, not only to prove its meaning, but because it was so common before the 21st century. Being African American, I know that our culture doesn t readily accept transgender people and we frown upon and ridicule a parent who allows their child to choose a different gender. When the situation arises where someone in our culture chooses to openly change genders we believe that it is a condition that will either pass or can be prayed away. This way of thinking forces our children s worldview to be rooted in shame and embarrassment and they begin to feel trapped in the wrong body with no way out and no one to talk to. The reader can interpret from the article that the purpose is to conclude what context is needed for pulling lever strategies to work in deterrence. • 25. The Four Roles Of Mentoring And Mentoring In The Odyssey The origin of the term mentor dates back to the near end of 18th century BC, when the Greek epic poem Odyssey, written by Homer, is believed to have been composed. As the main character, Odysseus, embarks in a 20 year long journey, he asks his friend, Mentor, to guide his son during his absence. Mentor accepts it, and acts as a father figure, teacher, role model, leader, and friend to Telemachus (Online Etymology Dictionary). Modern interpretations of mentoring pinpoint four distinct roles which mentors are expected to play: role modeling, sponsorship, coaching, and counseling the mentee. Additionally, they claim that varying levels of dedication result in different behaviors. Thus, it can be said that commitment also has the potential to affect employees performance and loyalty to the organizations (Schminke 2011). • 26. What Is The Zeigarnik Effect In psychology, the Zeigarnik effect states that people remember uncompleted or interrupted tasks better than completed tasks. In Gestalt psychology, the Zeigarnik effect has been used to demonstrate the general presence of Gestalt phenomena: not just appearing as perceptual effects, but also present in cognition. he advantage of remembrance can be explained by looking at Lewin s field theory: a task that has already been started establishes a task specific tension, which improves cognitive accessibility of the relevant contents.[3] The tension is relieved upon completion of the task. If the task is interrupted, the reduction of tension is impeded. Through continuous tension, the content is made more easily accessible, and can be easily remembered.[3] ... A similar effect also happens over a longer period as we worry about those things in which we have not achieve closure. Biomechanics Of The Tympanic Membrane Darisha Jhutty April 27, 2015 BIOE 154: Introduction to Biomechanics Professor Norman Biomechanics of the Tympanic Membrane Background: Over the past years, bioengineers have applied different methods for modelling the human ear. The human ear is an intricate biomechanical system with its primary function to sound perception and reception. The ear is divided into 3 main components, each with its own unique functions: the outer ear (pinna), the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear, or the pinna, consists of the auricle, the skin covered cartilage of the ear visible on the outside of the head, as well as the opening to the auditory canal. The middle ear refers the air filled hollow space (tympanic cavity) behind the eardrum or tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane is a thin, cone shaped membrane that separates the outer ear from the middle ear (Figure 1a). The tympanic membrane is made up of two main parts: the fragile pars flaccida (upper region) and robust the pars tersa (lower region). The pars tersa, composed of three layers: skin, fibrous tissue, and mucus, makes up the majority of the tympanic membrane. The pars flaccida is often associated with eustachian tube malfunctions and choleostomas, whereas the pars tersa is associated with perforations. There are 3 bones, the malleus, incus, and stapes, in the middle ear (Figure 1b) that vibrate when exposed to the vibrations of the sound waves. The poem Sailing the Byzantium illustrates how William Butler Yeats use of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the parallels between ancient civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of obsolescence and perpetuity. However, pharmacy was not always as convenient and advanced as it currently is today. Since the times of prehistoric man, pharmacy has evolved greatly over the years and has become a safer, more efficient and more important part of society. There are still many opinions about pharmacy s origin because many theories are based on logic and analogies rather than concrete evidence. Much is known about prehistoric diseases due to the damage of people s bodies found by archaeologists in ancient bones. However, finding evidence of early man trying to use natural resources as medicinal drugs is scarce. Prehistoric man viewed the causes of diseases as wraths from supernatural or spiritual beings. This caused our ancient ancestors to practice a type of magic which used plants and often objects for rituals to make peace with evil and disease causing spirits ( Kremers, 3). The ancient people learned many things from instinct. Things like water, an herb or mud were most likely man s first soothing applications. Trial and error helped man learn which substances brought the best results and shared them with other people. The advanced profession of pharmacy most likely evolved from simple and crude methods used by our ancient ancestors (A History 1). Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general (2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living (Dosseydossey.com). Federalism And The Separation Of Powers Federalism is a way of organizing a nation so that two or more levels of government have formal authority over the same area and people, ensuring that one does not become too powerful and aids in the separation of powers. Liberty is a state of freedom within a society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one s way of life, behavior, or political views. Although these two political science terms are different, they correlate and interact with one another in the American Government and are still relevant to contemporary policy issues faced today. James Madison s The Federalist No. 47 doctrine exemplifies this: In order to form correct ideas on this important subject, it will be proper to investigate the sense in which the preservation of liberty requires that the three great departments of power should be separate and distinct. Madison based the concept of federalism on the French lawyer Montesquieu s theory of the separation of powers. This theory states: Were the executive power not to have a right of restraining the encroachments of the legislative body, the latter would become despotic; for as it might arrogate to itself what authority it pleased, it would soon destroy all the other powers. Madison, along with the other Founding Fathers, took heed to this warning and created the three branches (executive, legislative, and judicial). The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating that he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 1945 Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held philosophy of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their national obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national loyalty leads to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead preferring to focus on distant and external evils. Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse by those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to the very security that such systems ought to safeguard.
