The Roots of Our Digital World Essay
The Roots of Our Digital World
Today s world revolves around the storing, organization, and communication of information.
While the world today may seem new and unique, this digital world arose out of a combination
of many smaller steps that varied from innovations like a new discovery in science or a new
philosophical outlook. In their writings Lev Manovich, a professor of New Media at San Diego
University, and Dr. Simon Cook, an Economics professor at Duke University, have developed of a
history of what lead to the development of the visual world. Manovich claims that the digital
revolution came in a three step process. The first took place in the time period between 1870 and
1920. Manovich believes that during this time period, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manovich and Cook created a strong structure for a digital history, however, the two failed to
make note of a few critical aspects that compliment and add more depth to this history. Both
scholars place too much emphasis on setting a specific beginning to this history. Manovich and
Cook, also, fail to incorporate the work of Charles Dogson, otherwise known as Lewis Carroll, into
the late Victorian history, and fail to note the importance of technological developments in creation
of the modern digital world.
Finding the actual beginning of the digital history might not be possible and unnecessarily weakens
the narrative. Lev Manovich believes that this history behind the digital world of today began with
developments in the late Victorian time period. Cook refutes this belief and notes that the major
contributors to late Victorian visual reasoning called upon the influence of already existing
mathematics to develop their charts and graphs. The late Victorian time period, however, remains
the initial time period where these influences related to the history of the creation of the digital
world of today (Cook 6 7). While Cook may be correct in making such an argument, Cook s
attempt to clarify Manovich s claim creates more confusion about when the start of this change
began.
As the more people study and research the history of the modern

Healthy Eating Persuasive Speech Outline
Persuasive Speech: Making healthy Nutritional decisions.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my classmates to make healthier nutritional choices.
Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act
now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future.
1.Introduction:
a.Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia
Western. I asked her, What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word Nutrition? She
shocked me by saying, Confusion . With so much conflicting and confusing information from both
the scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don t know what to eat to be
healthy or to lose weight.
b.Focus on Topic: Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin,
or depriving yourself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relevance: When it comes down to it, I m not going to shove kale down your throat if you tell me
that you just hate kale, even though it appears to be another one of the big health crazes. I m just
trying to show you all that eating healthy doesn t have to be a miserable experience, and despite our
limitations as college students, we can overcome the hurdles of Availability, Time, and Money, to
maintain a healthy diet.
e.Preview: So today, we re going to talk about the wonderful world of Nutrition, and I m going to
try to convince you that carrots and celery aren t just rabbit food, but people food too.
2.Problem Step:
a.Internal Preview: So let s start with some reasons as to why so many people are confused about
what to eat: misinformation and marketing.
b.Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional
food pyramid, which has been the standard by which many have ascribed as far as recommended
food intake. I m sure this model looks familiar to most of you.
c.Now, the USDA recommends MyPlate , which was introduced in 2010, as the new guidelines for

How Music And Humor Defines My Life
For centuries, people commissioned portraits of themselves as a way to for their posterity to
remember them. Typically, these portraits are usually of dispassionate royalty displaying their
wealth. However, sometimes these portraits carry something sentimental to the person being
painted to show what they might have enjoyed during their time on Earth. Seeing paintings such
as these made me ponder, what would I have in my portrait for my kin to remember me as? As of
now, people tend to remember for my humor and my taste in music. The question made me
further realize that there may be a time, years after I m gone when I ll be forgotten and the only
part of me that may be still relevant is this portrait. This epiphany plagues the mind of an adult at
least once in their life, so, obviously, one would love for there to be something they will be
remembered by. In this paper, I will explain how music and humor defines my life and how they
will be a focus in this portrait to give the viewer a decent understanding of who I am. A large part
of my interest in music stemmed from my father, an accomplished pianist, and my brother, an
accomplished drummer, who both had the opportunity to be lead musicians at many churches.
Their tastes in music are a big reason why I like such genre s as Hip Hop, R B/Soul, and Jazz.
Seeing how my family would analyze the intricate parts that go into making music made me want to
understand lyrics, production, and rhyme schemes on a deeper level. An

Persuasive Essay On Drug Decriminalization
Just Say No. This phrase was uttered in 1982 by Nancy Reagan, the first lady of the United States,
in response to a schoolgirl s question of what she should do if offered drugs (Weinraub A5). These
words became the slogan for a nationwide substance abuse prevention program that followed the
then recently enacted drug policies intended to discourage the manufacture, sale, and use of illicit
drugs in the United States. These zero tolerance policies carried harsh penalties and strict
enforcement for all drug related offenses. Almost four decades later, these policies are still in
effect, as is their focus on criminalization as a means to reduce the availability and usage of drugs.
Their ineffectiveness is evidenced by the facts that drug use rates have remained steady over the
past four decades and incarceration rates have exponentially rose during that same period. I believe
that a new course of action should be taken, and a bold new drug policy should be enacted.
Decriminalization would result in a substantial decrease of the prison population, relieve the
unnecessary burden that has been placed on our criminal justice system, shift the paradigm from
drug enforcement to drug treatment, reduce the health risk of HIV, AIDS, and heroin
related deaths;
and provide unprecedented benefits from the regulation of the manufacturing and sales of
substances that are currently illegal.
In order to understand why drugs should be decriminalized in this country, it is important to know

Into The Charge Of The Light Brigade Essay
The depictive lines of Alfred Lord Tennyson s poem Into the Valley of Death/Rode the six
hundred... Cannon to the right of them/ Cannon to the left of them The Charge of the Light
Brigade has long held its place in the public imagination. According to Denis Cummings, it is a
symbol of heroic failure, a Victorian icon of sacrifice and devotion to duty. The poem itself is a
modified and dramatic depiction of what the war was like. The poem, The Charge of the Light
Brigaderevises the real horrors of the war by rendering it into more dramatic, motivational, and
personal events.
Although the article, The Battle of Balaclava, by William Howard Russell and the poem, The
Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson tell about... Show more content on

But thanks to that, readers can experience the war as if they were a part of it. The first line was
broken it was joined by the second, they never halted or checked their speed an instant. (89)
Standing in the middle of hundreds of horses racing at 30 mph is pretty ghastly. Getting struck
by one of those horses can end your life, but these soldiers raced to protect their country and to
defeat their opponent. Not only does vocabulary affect the dramaticism of the story, it gives a
lifelike experience of what the war was like. The effect of personalization can change how the
story is accepted and understood. The article could have just said that there were dead bodies, but
it states, The plain was strewed with their bodies and with carcasses of horses. (89)
Poetry typically delivers events more deeply and memorably than the original. The Charge of the
Light Brigade renders the horrors by making it more dramatic, patriotic, and personal. Conceivably,
The Charge of the Light Brigade does not emphasize and thoroughly describe the original story.
But, both the poem and the article emphasize that these 600 soldiers will always be remembered.
Nevertheless, the poem s rhythm and conveyance will have a long lasting and heartfelt effect in

The Barren Woman By Sylvia Plath
Barren Woman by Sylvia Plath Poems are a structure of words with multiple layers of meanings.
The Barren Woman by Sylvia Plath describes a childless woman who sees herself as empty and
bare. Plath uses specific figurative language, such as, allusion, diction, and imagery to help explain
what being barren is like. The form, context, and figurative language of Barren Womanconveys
what it is like to be barren, emotionally and physically. Barren Woman is a relatively short poem.
It is separated into two parts. This helps distinctly structure the poem. In the first part of this
poem, the woman is comparing herself to an empty museum. Empty, I echo to the least footfall,
/ Museum without statues, grand with pillars, porticoes, rotundas. / In my courtyard a fountain
leaps and sinks back into itself (1 3). In the second part of this poem the narrator takes a different
point of view. She abruptly changes from describing herself as an empty museum, to expressing
how she imagines her life, and the harsh reality that it actually is: I imagine myself with a great
public, / Mother of a white Nike and several bald eyed Apollos. / Instead, the dead injure me with
attentions, and nothing can happen ( Barren 5 7). Plath constructs the separate parts as two separate
stanzas; part one is the first stanza, and the second part is the second stanza. By doing two stanzas
each with five lines, it helps balance two different points in one poem. Barren Woman is a very

Causes of the 1905 Revolution
The 1905 revolution in Russia began when armed forces set fire on a group of peaceful protestors
outside the Tsar s Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. However there were many factors in the build
up to revolution in 1905. Prior to 1905, disturbances in Russia could have been seen as quite rare.
Russiawas though suffering from a long period of repression and unrest. From the implementation
of tsarism in Russia, the regimes had slowly developed into more of an autocratic establishment

The majority of the protestors did not have a chance. This event was the spark for many further
revolutionary activities by different groups which culminated in the 1905 revolution.
The mood prior to the 1905 revolution in Russia was a quiet but angry one. The peasants and
workers situation was slowly worsening, only made worse by bad harvest and economic
reforms implemented by the tsarist government which left the poor even poorer. The tsarist
regime had always been, but was becoming more and more repressive and undemocratic. The
choice to go to war with Japan had initially been perceived as a good one but as a result of the
severe losses the tsar and his regime was seen to be incompetent and all morale in the government

Empiricism In Grendel
In Grendel by John Gardner, twelve philosophies are connected to each one of the twelve chapters
in the novel. These philosophies are all coats that the main character, Grendel, tries on to see if he
truly aligns and believes in the philosophy. Similarly, I, throughout my fifteen years of living, have
tried on coats of philosophies and align specifically with parts of two philosophies present in
Grendel: Empiricism and the philosophyof Nietzsche. Empiricism is the philosophy that professes
all knowledge comes from sense experience, and the primary aspect of Nietzsche s philosophy is
that tragedy is the affirmation of life. Ultimately, because of the experiences I have had in my life,
I have developed into an Empiricist and believer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I closed my eyes in disbelief. I refreshed the page. I thought Ms. Platt had attached another

but a C . I earned a seventy percent. My eyes watered, and I began to feel nauseous. I felt as if I
failed myself and my family. This grade was not supposed to be possible. In the words of Grendel,
it was an accident. But unfortunately, it was not. At that moment, I had to accept, even if I did not
want to, that I, for once, did not reach my high goals or had to surrender my unrealistic view of
myself. I had erred, like all humans do, and learned that I was not perfect and that I could fail to
reach my standards. At that moment, I realized that I wasn t superhuman but human, and this was
something challenging for me to cope with at the time. However, in discovering my ability to fail,
my perception of myself had been revolutionized.
After that moment, I no longer saw myself as an intelligent kid who was unable to fail, but one
who was and could be challenged by failure and challenged to learn from my mistakes. After
revising the essay, I received an A+, yet this was not what made me happy. The fact that I, the
twelve year old boy who had previously rejected failure as a possibility, could accept failure (by my
standards) and use it as

Duchess Of Malfi As A Revenge Tragedy Analysis
Sr. Deena David
17/PELA/035
Webster s Duchess of Malfi as a Revenge Tragedy
A revenge tragedy is one in which the tragedy is brought about by the pursuit and accomplishment
of revenge. In other words, its blood asking for blood. The revenge tragedy was very popular
during the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, and it owned its popularity largely to the influence of
Seneca, the ancient Roman dramatist. Revenge tragedy is different from other tragedies in the
sense that the whole part of the tragedy will be based on revenge. In Shakespeare s Macbeth,
though Macduff kills Macbeth to avenge the killing of his family, the play can t be called a
revenge tragedy as Macbeth himself is responsible for his own tragic end. The Duchess of Malfi by
the English dramatist John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no ghost but the echo from the Duchess tomb fulfils one of the functions of the ghost of
revenge tragedy. The voice warns a doomed man of his danger and, at the same time, reveals the
unknown fact of its own death. The play is sometimes ridiculed by modern critics for the
excessive violence and horror. The severed hands of dead Antonio, the wax figures of the Duchess
children, dance of the mad men, the appearance of the tomb maker, and the executioner with all the
apparatus of death bring in the elements of horror in the play. In a typical revenge play, the
protagonist directs his revenge towards an unjust action, but the vengeance is followed by a
series of retributions, which ultimately lead to the death of many characters. The Duchess,
Anotonio, Cardinal, Ferdinand, Julia, Bosola etc are all murdered for revenge. Though it begins
as a love story it ends as a dreadful tragedy. The violence and the horror scenes give it the touch it
needs to be a revenge tragedy. Though all the main characters are dead order is restored at the
end. The Antonio s eldest son is raised to the throne giving a sign of hope to the spectators after all

Persuasive Essay On Global Warming
Our world has adapted to the changes that come with our personal actions. Many of these actions
initiated around the time of The industrial revolution and the advances in technology generated
issues such as pollution. As time went on, one conflict became more evident, global warming.
Global warming is when there is a rise in the average temperature of the Earths climatesystem.
Environmental policies should be more enforced in order to make progress in our environments
because global warming alters ecosystems and generates danger to human life. People should also
be able to contribute in a positive way because global warming also causes changes in things such
as sea levels, temperature, diseases,etc.
The individuals that currently reside on planet earth carry out harmful actions that have generated
issues such as climate change. The Earth s average temperature has increased over the last decade
and has affected agricultural aspects around the world. In areas where farming takes place, water
is essential in order to sustain crops. Climate change alters the way farmers take care of their
crops because water has become more scarce throughout the years . As the extremities in weather
patterns becomes more common, more frequent droughts are bound to occur. People in urban
areas depend on food that derives from rural areas, therefore climate change is a threat to us.
Colder environments are also affected by climate because many ice glaciers are rapidly melting.

Resource Depletion And Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Lifecycle Analysis
Background
The content of analysis will examine paper. It will look at the harvesting of the materials,
production, distribution, and finally the waste. This lifecycle analysis is to explain a consumer
product s life from production to waste. This is to show the environmental effects that the products
has during its life time. A few of the environmental impacts that will be focused on is resource
depletion and greenhouse gas emissions. These were chosen because of the chain reaction they can
cause. Greenhouse gases are known to be linked to climate change, which is a global problem so
the impacts of these emissions are on a very large scale. Resource depletion is another problem
because more than one species rely on forest. Therefore, the depletion of it is not only bad to
humans but the other organisms that use it for their survival. If this resource was to be
completely used up, then it could lead to a loss of biodiversity which could be bad for the local
ecosystem. In addition, since some ecosystems are linked together the loss of one could have a
huge effect on another causing a domino effect. LCA Inventory Trees are a good source of

Christine Castel Biography
Christine took up writing so she could support her family. Her father, Tommaso Di Benvenuto di
Pizzano, was an astrologer to Charles the Fifth, the king at the time. He was respected greatly by
Charles the Fifth. Christine was married at fifteen to Etienne du Castel. This was arranged, but
they loved each other anyways. Etienne was a scholar, a nobleman, and the Duke of Guyenne. He
was part of the French court, and supported Christine completely on her writing interests. Etienne
and Christine had three children together, including Jean de Castel, who was born in 1384 and
lived for eighty eight years. That is the only known child. One fateful day, Charles the fifth died,
and Christine s father lost his job. Not long after, Tommaso got sick and finally died. Just a few

even considered their husband s property. Christine started to criticize women s lack of rights in

Other than gender equality and love poems, she also wrote biographies and autobiographies. This
includes a biography about Charles the Fifth, which was very flattering and pleasing, and her
autobiography, which talks about her thoughts on women. This was written to cease the continued
debate about women. Christine was the original advocate for women s

Sociological Explanations Of Gender Display By Goffman s
This next section provides a general discussion of Goffman s (1976) gender display . This is
used to investigate how gender is represented through interaction, and therefore be seen as natural,
while it s being produced as a socially organised achievement . Femininity and masculinity are
viewed as prototypes of essential expression something that can be conveyed in any social

p. 75). These are seen as meaningful behaviour which are evidence of our essential natures .

Go on take it! (615). These are perhaps words parents might use with their college age child to

exams or something. A parent knows that the money is not going to be paid back, just as Pete
knows Donald will never pay the money back to him. This situation reinforces the idea that Pete
enables Donald to take advantage of him. Just as history repeats itself, so does the cycle that is
Pete and Donald. Donald once again takes advantage of his brother s loyalty when on the drive
home from the farm the brothers pick up Webster, a hitchhiker and conman. Webster spins a tale
too good to be true but Donald can t see anything other than dollar signs when Webster offers him
a share in his gold mine in Peru. Pete, as most adults would have, can see the scam through
Webster s tale immediately and tries to help Donald see the truth by offering up multiple snarky
comments and direct questions for Webster to answer. It s just not enough though as Donald
gives away Pete s $100 to Webster in good faith for a share in the mine. This is a much larger
issue than the fact that Donald just gave away Pete s money and feels justified and blameless.
The other issue is Pete s past experience should have taught Pete that Donald is incapable of
understanding the value of other people s money or material items, which is part of the reason he
was asked to leave the farm.

Civil Right
Everything began with a third grader student named Linda Brown who was an African American
and had to walk a mile to get to a colored school, while she lived about seven block away from an
all white school. This commanded the awakening of a nation to combat segregation. According to
the book American Government roots and reform , explains that Brown v. Board of education(1954)
case consisted on the U.S. Supreme Court decision holding that school segregation is inherently
unconstitutional because it violates the fourteen Amendment s that guarantee equal protection. This
shows that African American kids were discriminated as well their rights were violated.

by Kenneth and Mamie Clark demonstrated that children from segregated schools feel inferior to
white children. Finally, this led on May 17, 1954, Chief justice Earl Warren and the justices to agree

relevant is Brown v. Board of Education today? As a nation, we have backed away from the

The Internet s Impact On Social Capital
In the 21st century humans are presented with means to impact their societies potential in a greater
way than ever before. With new technology, individuals have astounding control over the
foundations of social value. One of the most powerful tools to mold these foundations is the
Internet. After its creation in the 1950s, the Internet has witnessed excessive and continuous
growth. As more and more people become part of the Internet s population its power to shape
society s capital. To examine this power the definition of social capital must be clarified. Former
president of the American Political Science Association, Robert Putnam explains in his book

Like food and shelter, community development has also allocated a majority of human resources.
From primitive inventions such as basic language and writing utensils to the telephone and the
Internet, humans have a communal goal to connect more frequently and with more people. As of
2014, the Internet is the most successful device because it increases global connection and
frequency of communication. The Internet increases community access enabling users to
communicate with forty percent of the world, over three billion people (Internet). Increasing by
almost thirty thousand users a day the Internet exhibits amounts of efficiency surpassing that of
other communication technologies (Howard 383). Before the Internet social networks were limited
to local communities. Communication mainly occurred between people geographically close. The
Internet has broken the constraint geography placed on community. Sociologist Barry Wellman
discusses the Internets extension of society connectedness in Connecting Community: On and
Offline. With the Internet, people have global connectivity and [i]nstead of being bound up in a
neighborhood community where all know all people create networks based on their unique traits
not proximity (Wellman 25,27). Through this increased exchange between diverse people the
global social capital is increased as well. The world as one large society sees a connectedness that

The Book Of The Grotesques, Hands, And The Teacher By...
In Sherwood Anderson s three short stories The Book of the Grotesques , Hands and The
Teacher we confront the beauty and difficulty in existing amongst multiple beautiful, harsh truths
in a world where so many choose and push only one. These stories in succession reminded me of
Mark Edmundson paraphrasing William Carlos Williams: People die miserably every day for
lack of what is found in despised poems (1). But what Anderson brings us is another version of a
small, poetic, dangerous layering of truths. Adolf Myers, Kate Swift and their students live in a
world of small, lowercase t truths, where affection given and received is not automatically perverse.
Their ruin comes from the fact that they are denied permission to have this affection... Show more

acknowledge much less admit. He would tell us that nothing heals and nothing scars like human
connection, physical or otherwise. He would tell us that even the idea of affection gone wrong is
enough to beat a successful school master into the dirt of his own playground. He would give us
these truths, and tell us that living required us to be able to juggle them all, simultaneously. He

Big Question-Does God Exist
The video Big Question Does God Exist? by Grenville Kent was eye opening in many ways. I
have always known that God is the creator of everything and the He spoke them into existence. I
have always viewed evolution to be quiet silly, but haven t really known how to explain what I
believe in a way that others would understand. I really liked professor John Lennox from Oxford
University s illustration of a nonbird becoming a bird. Nobody has ever seen the big transition.
Nobody has let alone defined what the nonbird is. Nobody has seen the transition from one species
turning into another species. If it happens so often why has nobody seen it? I like this thought
because it is really quiet simple. It addresses one of the problems with evolution

The Acceptance Of Oneself In Walt Whitman s A Song Of Myself
A Song of Myself; a poem of learning to love yourself A Song of Myself by Walt Whitman
portrays many things, but the most overwhelming message is the acceptance of oneself and their
surroundings. Whitman used this poem as an ode to life, to give a sense of liberation from
conformity. Whitman begins the poem with I celebrate myself, in order to show how the poem
is a celebration not only for life but of the acceptance for oneself. Not only does Whitman accept
himself, he urges others to do the same. In the poem he states, For every atom belonging to me as
good belongs to you. This sentence means that Whitman and the readers can both succeed, and
also means both figures can accept themselves. Whitman also talks about how easy it is to step
away from conformity and be himself, saying that the Me is nearest and easiest to him. In one of
the last sections of the poem, Whitman states that his essence has always been present in the
universe and always will be. Whitman talks about how the entire history of the universe has been
building for when Whitman realizes who he is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whitman uses Grass to symbolize hope, growth and death. In the first section of the poem,
Whitman wants to look at a spear of grass. The grass is now representing weapons and danger in
the surroundings of one s life, but still overcoming the obstacles to love one. Also, grass was a
great representation of the resurrection of someone; the grass grows from the decomposition in
the soil. The way grass represents growth and death is exactly what the readers go through every
day. Death happens every day and grass represents that though death happens we can rebuild and
flourish. Grass can grow through the cracks of concrete; it can grow high and thick above the
decomposition below. It is representation of us in society and how we can overcome these
obstacles, the same way Whitman writes about and

in a downward direction following each drop in price. Moreover, the value of Russia s ruble has

one Russian ruble is only worth 0.017 USD. Along with the country s weak economic growth,
Russia s annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of war in Ukraine have contributed to the
devaluation of Russian currency ().
Noticeably, Russia s economic struggles have affected its people, especially those who live in
poverty. Today, roughly 13.4% of Russia s people live in poverty (). For this reason, Russia s
economic inequality continues to be one of its biggest issues. According to the investment bank
Credit Suisse, Russia has the highest rate of inequality in the world with 35% of the household

Mother Depicted In Enrique s Journey
Introduction Sonia Nazario tells a personal story in her 2007 novel, Enrique s Journey, and one in
which a young Honduran boy places his life at risk in order to reach the United States and be with
his mother. The main characters are Enrique, his grandmother, his girlfriend Maria Isabel, his sister
Belky and the mother. Enrique s mother, Lourdes, had to make the painful decision a mother
could make, she had to leave her son because of the poverty in Honduras. Her plan was that once
she was in America, she would send money for both her children, Enrique and his sister. Her son
becomes resentful and turns to drugs, and then, at the age of seventeen, finally resolves to somehow

In the Foreword, she brings the reader to a day in 1997, when her cleaning woman Carmen reveals
that she has four children in Guatemala, whom she has not seen in twelve years. Nazario is
stunned. She cannot understand how a mother could so walk away from her young children, but
Carmen then presents a reality the author will soon investigate and know to be ordinary. Since the
1960s, untold numbers of Central American mothers, often abandoned by their husbands, come to
America to take any work available (Nazario xiii). In the late 20th century, then, and as American
women were entering the workforce more and more, supply met demand and the illegal immigrant
mothers found work as house cleaners and nannies. As Carmen expresses, nonetheless, the distance
is almost unbearable and these mothers intensely feel the distance from their children. As the novel
also reinforces, the children similarly experience the pain of separation, which goes to another
form of immigration ; basically, and often at very young ages, they risk their lives to join their
mothers. Most importantly, then, and as Nazario is further moved by the true tale of Carmen s son
Minor, Enrique s Journey actually documents an ongoing situation based on inequality and
injustice. The novel is then completely based on the realities researched by the

giving you some advice for some of the classes you will have to take in 10th grade. It is your
second year in highschool and you still have a while till you graduate so you still have to try your
best. So the classes we will be talking about is English 10 with Mrs. Ladwigs, Speech with Mr.

YOU SAVE YOUR WORDS OF THE DAYS! You will need them at the end of both semesters.
Biology with Mr. Carmichael is not so bad. He teaches you very well and explains things to you
so that you will understand. There are a lot of notes but you will be fine if you write them down.
Because they help you out a lot and most of your homework will rely on your homework. Study a
lot before the quizzes and tests because trust me you will need the studying. The labs are honestly
not so bad so just finish them and get them turned it and you will do great in Biology!
Last class, I will be giving advice to you for is Geometry with Mrs. Backstrom. Some of you don

When the Greeks die they have to have a proper burial. They put a coin on the eye or in the
mouth of the dead person. If they did not have a proper burial the person would appear to
someone in their dream and tell them where their body was and to give them a proper burial.
Charon will only pick up people who have the coin to take them across Lethe. They then go
through the veil of mourning to the Plain of Judgement. If they have been good they get to go

What Are The Characteristics Of Cockroaches
For some people, even the mention of cockroaches sends shivers down their spines. Often, people
are reminded of dirtiness when it comes to cockroaches. Worse still, cockroaches are known for
spreading diseases such as Salmonellosis, and also triggering allergies and asthma!
On top of that, cockroaches also portray another shocking characteristic cannibalism.
Studies have shown cannibalism in six species of cockroaches, including German, American, and
Oriental that show cannibalistic tendencies. Unfortunately, the German and American cockroachare
most commonly found and seen in Malaysian homes.
You may notice some cockroaches found in your home tend to be bigger and some tend to fly
while some don t. That s the difference between German and American cockroaches. German
cockroaches come in yellowish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually, it s the older, stronger cockroaches praying on the young and weak.
However, in terms of pest control this survival instinct sometimes doesn t work out for them. If one
cockroach has consumed some bait, and then falls victim to being cannibalised, those feeding upon
it will also become infected with the effects of the bait.
Regulation
Another reason behind their cannibalistic instinct is due to self regulation. Large populations mean
less food to go around. Eliminating members of the intrusion means fewer mouths to feed, resulting
in more food for everyone else. Usually, this occurs with the females consuming eggs and nymphs
when food is scarce.
German cockroach nymphs can sometimes avoid being cannibalised by foraging for food during the
day. Adult cockroaches usually operate during the night. These nymphs have also developed a
pheromone that repels adult cockroaches.
It has also been reported that female American cockroaches turn to cannibalism when mating. Just
like black widow spiders, female American cockroaches can consume their male partner during

The Lilly Kane Murder Trial Interest
She waits for Saturday before she stalks Aaron Echolls again. Digging up his credit history, fine,
she could do that between classes. Phone logs were a little sketchier, apparently Mr. Echolls had up
to three cell phones, she would have to talk to Logan about that. And internet info... She was put off
enough by the number of times people in that house Google d themselves, she didn t have time to
stomach the porn. The Lilly Kanemurder trial interest was morbid, but she figured she could relate.
Going back months, there were searches about Lilly. She might talk to Logan about that, too.

He talks, all the wisdom and false modesty of a man trying to impress, and she jots his answers
on her notepad so she doesn t have to reveal the recorder in her bag. It s not like she expects him
to tell her he s dating a sixteen year old, who s also been dating his son, but she likes to have the
audio, just in case. Her eyes spot two wine glasses that tell him he probably had company this
morning or was expecting company later, and she tucks that into her memory.
Can I use your bathroom? She interrupts cheerily, and he obliges, even as she s calling him stupid
in her head.
His trailer bathroom has a stash of barely concealed pill bottles she snaps pictures of with the
water running, and the showers wet, which could mean nothing at all. She catches her own eyes in
the bathroom mirror, noticing her eyebrows are getting a little wild child, and thinks about how
Lilly would ve teased her into tweezing, and just smoothes them. When she s sure she has
everything Aaron s willing to give her, she excuses herself out, getting his phone number for any
follow ups. Curiosity piqued, before she s even back to the LeBaron she s trying to calculate which
number he s given her.

Sir Thomas Mun s Theory Of Mercantilism
Sir Thomas Mun (1571 1641), a famous economic thinker from the sixteenth century, was most
closely associated with the idea of Mercantilism. This school of thought mainly focused on
international trade and the balance of trade through acquisition of silver and gold. Thomas Mun
achieved many accomplishments in his 70 years of life; most notably, his role as the Director of the
East India Company, publishing books and pamphlets on his theory of mercantilism, molding
England s trade policies to maximize the nation s wealth, and further setting a precedent for
international tradethat many countries thereafter followed. When Thomas Mun first introduced
his idea of foreign trade, it was during a time of an economic downfall in England. Many people
believed that the East India Company was to blame because they had financed their trade by
exporting a large amount of bullion in order to purchase spices (Walter,1). When accusations arose
of his company being at fault for the trade imbalance in England, Mun s defense strategy involved
informing the citizens of the country about the benefits of international trade to increase England s
wealth. Mun wrote a pamphlet, A Discourse of Trade, from England unto the East Indies, to
explain why his company had chosen to be a participant of trade. Mun explained that if the
company had chosen to deter from the trading of bullion for spices, England would have actually
been at more of disadvantage economically. The reason for this, is that

Environmental Pollution In Honeybees
Effects of global warming and pollution in honeybees.
Pollination is one of the necessary processes to maintain global biodiversity along with nearly a
third of the universal food production sector (1). European honey bees are known as one of the
most significant pollinators in the western world but a decline in population management has been
shown over the years (5). Declines in honey bee populations not only caused by poor supervision
but can be attributed to pollution and combined effects of climate change (4). Intraspecific
communication amongst honey bees has been negatively impacted by factors such as pollution of
air (4), landscape alteration, the spreading of pathogens and agricultural intensification (5), along
with the extreme temperature variation (1). Plant fitness is affected by the diminishing levels of
volatile compounds which cause these pollinators to spend their energy ineffectively (4). Drastic
measures will need to be set in place in order to preserve this genetically rich species and to
maintain the ecosystems that are so valuable, not only for global biodiversity but for the multi
billion agricultural industries as well (1).
The honey bee is known for its genetic variability and plasticity in varying environmental conditions
(1). With temperatures changing, honey bees will have to adapt to new stressors such as plant
morphology, pesticides, harvesting capacity and floral ecosystem (1).
Looking at climate change trends, regions will be unable to

The Babylonian Of The Assyrian Army
This research paper is about one aspect of the ancient world that I have analyzed and the topic that
I have done this research on is the Assyrian Army. I will give a detailed analysis with precise and
concise information with well presented information with credible claims to support my paper and
my thesis statement that .The Assyrian Army was the most organized Army in the Ancient near east
;
they conquered the Dark Age era with their tactical and physical nature of militant system which
makes them the best army of all time . The Worldview connection is that the Assyrian was into
terror and believed that they were immortal which shows how brutal they were. The Assyrians not
only viewed themselves as a great army but had a worldview that was set as the foundation of
western civilization which was more polytheistic. Assyriais a major Mesopotamian East Semitic
kingdom and empire of the Ancient Near East, existed as an independent state for a period of
approximately nineteen centuries, from the 25th century BCE to the 6th century BCE, spanning the
mid to Early Bronze Age through to the late Iron Age. (Humanities 26) For a short time the
Assyrians became the first people to rule both Egypt and Mesopotamia. The Assyrians came to rule
powerful empires at several times. As mentioned in class by (Mesner 08 28 2015) the Make up a
substantial part of the greater Mesopotamian cradle of civilization, which included Sumer, Akkad

Act 5 sc 3 and Act 3 sc 3 in Shakespeare s Coriolanus Essay
A tragedy typically deals with the downfall of an important character, in a serious play, via a fatal
flaw. The audience would feel upset for the character as his weakness is not his fault and his in his
nature. A tragedy has an unhappy ending or ongoing poignant events and during Act 5 sc3 and Act
3 sc3 in Shakespeare?s Coriolanusmany of these take place.
Coriolanus? weakness is his honesty. As we see later others know how to manipulate this which in
turn brings him to his demise. Although he is modest and honourable the common people despise
him as he is arrogant about his fighting skills and constantly insults them. ?You dissentious rouges,

tragedy to life. This scene is controlled by the tribunes; they have hatched a plan to bring
Coriolanus to his exile, ?Put him to choler straight.? They know that he will speak what?s in his
heart if he is aggravated enough and they know exactly how to control him. They know that he is a
proud man and has a strong nature which causes him not retaliate to insults to his character. The
tribunes, mainly Sicinius and Brutus, feel that if Coriolanus runs for consul than he would have too
much power. In the scene they try to prove to the plebeians that all Coriolanus? actions are to take
total control of the city causing them vote for him to be banished.
Shakespeare has now shown the first trait of Coriolanus? tragedy, he strives to control his anger
towards what is unfolding but finally erupts at being called a traitor when he?s anything but.
Menenius, Coriolanus? close friend, tries to calm Coriolanus praying him to stop but the citizens
erupt, ?To th? rock, to th? rock with him!? playing their part to enrage him more. Shakespeare uses
dramatic devices in this scene to emphasise Coriolanus? feelings. Dramatic devices help to
emphasise how the audience react to the character by stage directions which follow the text, also
sound, lighting and body positioning on stage. These emphasise mood and emotions, and during the
RSC production Coriolanus is being surrounded by the citizens both in speech and on stage adding

  • 2. The Roots of Our Digital World Essay The Roots of Our Digital World Today s world revolves around the storing, organization, and communication of information. While the world today may seem new and unique, this digital world arose out of a combination of many smaller steps that varied from innovations like a new discovery in science or a new philosophical outlook. In their writings Lev Manovich, a professor of New Media at San Diego University, and Dr. Simon Cook, an Economics professor at Duke University, have developed of a history of what lead to the development of the visual world. Manovich claims that the digital revolution came in a three step process. The first took place in the time period between 1870 and 1920. Manovich believes that during this time period, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manovich and Cook created a strong structure for a digital history, however, the two failed to make note of a few critical aspects that compliment and add more depth to this history. Both scholars place too much emphasis on setting a specific beginning to this history. Manovich and Cook, also, fail to incorporate the work of Charles Dogson, otherwise known as Lewis Carroll, into the late Victorian history, and fail to note the importance of technological developments in creation of the modern digital world. Finding the actual beginning of the digital history might not be possible and unnecessarily weakens the narrative. Lev Manovich believes that this history behind the digital world of today began with developments in the late Victorian time period. Cook refutes this belief and notes that the major contributors to late Victorian visual reasoning called upon the influence of already existing mathematics to develop their charts and graphs. The late Victorian time period, however, remains the initial time period where these influences related to the history of the creation of the digital world of today (Cook 6 7). While Cook may be correct in making such an argument, Cook s attempt to clarify Manovich s claim creates more confusion about when the start of this change began. As the more people study and research the history of the modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I asked her, What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word Nutrition? She shocked me by saying, Confusion . With so much conflicting and confusing information from both the scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don t know what to eat to be healthy or to lose weight. b.Focus on Topic: Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself ... • 4. How Music And Humor Defines My Life For centuries, people commissioned portraits of themselves as a way to for their posterity to remember them. Typically, these portraits are usually of dispassionate royalty displaying their wealth. However, sometimes these portraits carry something sentimental to the person being painted to show what they might have enjoyed during their time on Earth. Seeing paintings such as these made me ponder, what would I have in my portrait for my kin to remember me as? As of now, people tend to remember for my humor and my taste in music. The question made me further realize that there may be a time, years after I m gone when I ll be forgotten and the only part of me that may be still relevant is this portrait. This epiphany plagues the mind of an adult at least once in their life, so, obviously, one would love for there to be something they will be remembered by. In this paper, I will explain how music and humor defines my life and how they will be a focus in this portrait to give the viewer a decent understanding of who I am. A large part of my interest in music stemmed from my father, an accomplished pianist, and my brother, an accomplished drummer, who both had the opportunity to be lead musicians at many churches. Their tastes in music are a big reason why I like such genre s as Hip Hop, R B/Soul, and Jazz. Seeing how my family would analyze the intricate parts that go into making music made me want to understand lyrics, production, and rhyme schemes on a deeper level. An ... • 5. Persuasive Essay On Drug Decriminalization Just Say No. This phrase was uttered in 1982 by Nancy Reagan, the first lady of the United States, in response to a schoolgirl s question of what she should do if offered drugs (Weinraub A5). These words became the slogan for a nationwide substance abuse prevention program that followed the then recently enacted drug policies intended to discourage the manufacture, sale, and use of illicit drugs in the United States. These zero tolerance policies carried harsh penalties and strict enforcement for all drug related offenses. Almost four decades later, these policies are still in effect, as is their focus on criminalization as a means to reduce the availability and usage of drugs. Their ineffectiveness is evidenced by the facts that drug use rates have remained steady over the past four decades and incarceration rates have exponentially rose during that same period. I believe that a new course of action should be taken, and a bold new drug policy should be enacted. Decriminalization would result in a substantial decrease of the prison population, relieve the unnecessary burden that has been placed on our criminal justice system, shift the paradigm from drug enforcement to drug treatment, reduce the health risk of HIV, AIDS, and heroin related deaths; and provide unprecedented benefits from the regulation of the manufacturing and sales of substances that are currently illegal. In order to understand why drugs should be decriminalized in this country, it is important to know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cannon to the right of them/ Cannon to the left of them The Charge of the Light Brigade has long held its place in the public imagination. According to Denis Cummings, it is a symbol of heroic failure, a Victorian icon of sacrifice and devotion to duty. The poem itself is a modified and dramatic depiction of what the war was like. The poem, The Charge of the Light Brigaderevises the real horrors of the war by rendering it into more dramatic, motivational, and personal events. Getting struck by one of those horses can end your life, but these soldiers raced to protect their country and to defeat their opponent. The effect of personalization can change how the story is accepted and understood. The article could have just said that there were dead bodies, but it states, The plain was strewed with their bodies and with carcasses of horses. • 8. The Barren Woman By Sylvia Plath Barren Woman by Sylvia Plath Poems are a structure of words with multiple layers of meanings. The Barren Woman by Sylvia Plath describes a childless woman who sees herself as empty and bare. Plath uses specific figurative language, such as, allusion, diction, and imagery to help explain what being barren is like. The form, context, and figurative language of Barren Womanconveys what it is like to be barren, emotionally and physically. Barren Woman is a relatively short poem. It is separated into two parts. This helps distinctly structure the poem. In the first part of this poem, the woman is comparing herself to an empty museum. Empty, I echo to the least footfall, / Museum without statues, grand with pillars, porticoes, rotundas. / In my courtyard a fountain leaps and sinks back into itself (1 3). In the second part of this poem the narrator takes a different point of view. She abruptly changes from describing herself as an empty museum, to expressing how she imagines her life, and the harsh reality that it actually is: I imagine myself with a great public, / Mother of a white Nike and several bald eyed Apollos. / Instead, the dead injure me with attentions, and nothing can happen ( Barren 5 7). Plath constructs the separate parts as two separate stanzas; part one is the first stanza, and the second part is the second stanza. By doing two stanzas each with five lines, it helps balance two different points in one poem. Barren Woman is a very important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Duchess Of Malfi As A Revenge Tragedy Analysis Sr. Deena David 17/PELA/035 Webster s Duchess of Malfi as a Revenge Tragedy A revenge tragedy is one in which the tragedy is brought about by the pursuit and accomplishment of revenge. In other words, its blood asking for blood. The revenge tragedy was very popular during the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, and it owned its popularity largely to the influence of Seneca, the ancient Roman dramatist. Revenge tragedy is different from other tragedies in the sense that the whole part of the tragedy will be based on revenge. The voice warns a doomed man of his danger and, at the same time, reveals the unknown fact of its own death. The play is sometimes ridiculed by modern critics for the excessive violence and horror. The severed hands of dead Antonio, the wax figures of the Duchess children, dance of the mad men, the appearance of the tomb maker, and the executioner with all the apparatus of death bring in the elements of horror in the play. In a typical revenge play, the protagonist directs his revenge towards an unjust action, but the vengeance is followed by a series of retributions, which ultimately lead to the death of many characters. The Duchess, Anotonio, Cardinal, Ferdinand, Julia, Bosola etc are all murdered for revenge. Though it begins as a love story it ends as a dreadful tragedy. It will look at the harvesting of the materials, production, distribution, and finally the waste. This lifecycle analysis is to explain a consumer product s life from production to waste. This is to show the environmental effects that the products has during its life time. A few of the environmental impacts that will be focused on is resource depletion and greenhouse gas emissions. These were chosen because of the chain reaction they can cause. Greenhouse gases are known to be linked to climate change, which is a global problem so the impacts of these emissions are on a very large scale. Resource depletion is another problem because more than one species rely on forest. Therefore, the depletion of it is not only bad to humans but the other organisms that use it for their survival. If this resource was to be completely used up, then it could lead to a loss of biodiversity which could be bad for the local ecosystem. Pete, the elder brother, is the epitome of the American Dream. He has worked hard and become an entrepreneur, has a wife and kids, and even brags about an ocean view from his home. Donald is completely opposite. He is for the most part unemployed, and although he is a spiritual person, he has been unable to find the right fit for his spirituality and bounced from religion to religion. The Rich Brother, begins at the end of Donald s most recent search for spirituality when he must call his brother, Pete, knowing that Pete cannot deny his brother s need for help yet again, and asks to be picked... A parent knows that the money is not going to be paid back, just as Pete knows Donald will never pay the money back to him. This situation reinforces the idea that Pete enables Donald to take advantage of him. Just as history repeats itself, so does the cycle that is Pete and Donald. Donald once again takes advantage of his brother s loyalty when on the drive home from the farm the brothers pick up Webster, a hitchhiker and conman. Webster spins a tale too good to be true but Donald can t see anything other than dollar signs when Webster offers him a share in his gold mine in Peru. Pete, as most adults would have, can see the scam through Webster s tale immediately and tries to help Donald see the truth by offering up multiple snarky comments and direct questions for Webster to answer. It s just not enough though as Donald gives away Pete s $100 to Webster in good faith for a share in the mine. This is a much larger issue than the fact that Donald just gave away Pete s money and feels justified and blameless. The other issue is Pete s past experience should have taught Pete that Donald is incapable of understanding the value of other people s money or material items, which is part of the reason he was asked to leave the farm. ... The main characters are Enrique, his grandmother, his girlfriend Maria Isabel, his sister Belky and the mother. Enrique s mother, Lourdes, had to make the painful decision a mother could make, she had to leave her son because of the poverty in Honduras. Her plan was that once she was in America, she would send money for both her children, Enrique and his sister. Her son becomes resentful and turns to drugs, and then, at the age of seventeen, finally resolves to somehow make the journey and be with the mother who so inexplicably vanished.... In the Foreword, she brings the reader to a day in 1997, when her cleaning woman Carmen reveals that she has four children in Guatemala, whom she has not seen in twelve years. Nazario is stunned. She cannot understand how a mother could so walk away from her young children, but Carmen then presents a reality the author will soon investigate and know to be ordinary. Since the 1960s, untold numbers of Central American mothers, often abandoned by their husbands, come to America to take any work available (Nazario xiii). In the late 20th century, then, and as American women were entering the workforce more and more, supply met demand and the illegal immigrant mothers found work as house cleaners and nannies. As Carmen expresses, nonetheless, the distance is almost unbearable and these mothers intensely feel the distance from their children. As the novel also reinforces, the children similarly experience the pain of separation, which goes to another form of immigration ; basically, and often at very young ages, they risk their lives to join their mothers. Most importantly, then, and as Nazario is further moved by the true tale of Carmen s son Minor, Enrique s Journey actually documents an ongoing situation based on inequality and injustice. • 38. Statement of Purpose to Become a Nursing Student at... Since my first day in nursing school, I have always looked forward to the day I become a family nurse practitioner (FNP). Among the driving forces and strengths being that apart from being the first nurse in the family, I graduated with a degree in nursing making me a source of inspiration within the family. Additionally, I will be the first to graduate with a master s degree in the family given this opportunity. Besides, I wish to be a source of motivation and inspiration to many nurses who wish to advance their nursing careers. It is through a demonstration of what is possible and mentoring them through that I can make a positive change among fellow nurses. Since I graduated about three years ago, I have worked with many patients and clients that require much of the required advanced nursing skills that I seek. Equipped with such skills, I will be at a better position to adequately, competently and confidently assist the adult patients and clients. In fact, nursing is a passion allowing me to serve the community and at the same time be a light in someone s disease process darkness. I wish to live to learn broadly, to serve others generously and courageously lead other fellow nurses. Since I graduated three years ago, I have had two certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), which have enabled to work effectively at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA as a RN, in GI and Pulmonologist labs. Among the tasks I took part ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. What Are The Characteristics Of Cockroaches For some people, even the mention of cockroaches sends shivers down their spines. Often, people are reminded of dirtiness when it comes to cockroaches. Worse still, cockroaches are known for spreading diseases such as Salmonellosis, and also triggering allergies and asthma! On top of that, cockroaches also portray another shocking characteristic cannibalism. Studies have shown cannibalism in six species of cockroaches, including German, American, and Oriental that show cannibalistic tendencies. Unfortunately, the German and American cockroachare most commonly found and seen in Malaysian homes. However, in terms of pest control this survival instinct sometimes doesn t work out for them. If one cockroach has consumed some bait, and then falls victim to being cannibalised, those feeding upon it will also become infected with the effects of the bait. Regulation Another reason behind their cannibalistic instinct is due to self regulation. Large populations mean less food to go around. Eliminating members of the intrusion means fewer mouths to feed, resulting in more food for everyone else. Usually, this occurs with the females consuming eggs and nymphs when food is scarce. German cockroach nymphs can sometimes avoid being cannibalised by foraging for food during the day. Adult cockroaches usually operate during the night. These nymphs have also developed a pheromone that repels adult cockroaches. It has also been reported that female American cockroaches turn to cannibalism when mating. Just like black widow spiders, female American cockroaches can consume their male partner during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Sir Thomas Mun s Theory Of Mercantilism Sir Thomas Mun (1571 1641), a famous economic thinker from the sixteenth century, was most closely associated with the idea of Mercantilism. This school of thought mainly focused on international trade and the balance of trade through acquisition of silver and gold. Thomas Mun achieved many accomplishments in his 70 years of life; most notably, his role as the Director of the East India Company, publishing books and pamphlets on his theory of mercantilism, molding England s trade policies to maximize the nation s wealth, and further setting a precedent for international tradethat many countries thereafter followed. When Thomas Mun first introduced his idea of foreign trade, it was during a time of an economic downfall in England. Many people believed that the East India Company was to blame because they had financed their trade by exporting a large amount of bullion in order to purchase spices (Walter,1). When accusations arose of his company being at fault for the trade imbalance in England, Mun s defense strategy involved informing the citizens of the country about the benefits of international trade to increase England s wealth. Mun wrote a pamphlet, A Discourse of Trade, from England unto the East Indies, to explain why his company had chosen to be a participant of trade. Mun explained that if the company had chosen to deter from the trading of bullion for spices, England would have actually been at more of disadvantage economically. The reason for this, is that ... • 45. Environmental Pollution In Honeybees Effects of global warming and pollution in honeybees. Pollination is one of the necessary processes to maintain global biodiversity along with nearly a third of the universal food production sector (1). European honey bees are known as one of the most significant pollinators in the western world but a decline in population management has been shown over the years (5). Declines in honey bee populations not only caused by poor supervision but can be attributed to pollution and combined effects of climate change (4). Intraspecific communication amongst honey bees has been negatively impacted by factors such as pollution of air (4), landscape alteration, the spreading of pathogens and agricultural intensification (5), along with the extreme temperature variation (1). Plant fitness is affected by the diminishing levels of volatile compounds which cause these pollinators to spend their energy ineffectively (4). Drastic measures will need to be set in place in order to preserve this genetically rich species and to maintain the ecosystems that are so valuable, not only for global biodiversity but for the multi billion agricultural industries as well (1). The honey bee is known for its genetic variability and plasticity in varying environmental conditions (1). With temperatures changing, honey bees will have to adapt to new stressors such as plant morphology, pesticides, harvesting capacity and floral ecosystem (1). Looking at climate change trends, regions will be unable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Act 5 sc 3 and Act 3 sc 3 in Shakespeare s Coriolanus Essay A tragedy typically deals with the downfall of an important character, in a serious play, via a fatal flaw. The audience would feel upset for the character as his weakness is not his fault and his in his nature. A tragedy has an unhappy ending or ongoing poignant events and during Act 5 sc3 and Act 3 sc3 in Shakespeare?s Coriolanusmany of these take place. Coriolanus? weakness is his honesty. As we see later others know how to manipulate this which in turn brings him to his demise. Although he is modest and honourable the common people despise him as he is arrogant about his fighting skills and constantly insults them. ?You dissentious rouges, that, rubbing the poor itch of opinion make yourself scabs?? This scene is controlled by the tribunes; they have hatched a plan to bring Coriolanus to his exile, ?Put him to choler straight.? They know that he will speak what?s in his heart if he is aggravated enough and they know exactly how to control him. They know that he is a proud man and has a strong nature which causes him not retaliate to insults to his character. The tribunes, mainly Sicinius and Brutus, feel that if Coriolanus runs for consul than he would have too much power. In the scene they try to prove to the plebeians that all Coriolanus? actions are to take total control of the city causing them vote for him to be banished. Shakespeare has now shown the first trait of Coriolanus? tragedy, he strives to control his anger towards what is unfolding but finally erupts at being called a traitor when he?s anything but. Menenius, Coriolanus? close friend, tries to calm Coriolanus praying him to stop but the citizens erupt, ?To th? rock, to th? rock with him!? playing their part to enrage him more. Shakespeare uses dramatic devices in this scene to emphasise Coriolanus? feelings. Dramatic devices help to emphasise how the audience react to the character by stage directions which follow the text, also sound, lighting and body positioning on stage. These emphasise mood and emotions, and during the RSC production Coriolanus is being surrounded by the citizens both in speech and on stage adding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
