Examples Of Heroism In Beowulf
Heroism and Its Adaptation Over Time (Prompt #3)
Heroism is defined as great bravery, but there are many interpretations of what great bravery truly
signifies. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals. Often
times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and become a role
model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is portrayed as a
superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a warrior as a hero did
not last long in history, however. As times changed, people developed different values and beliefs that
transformed a hero from a warrior to a saint. In today s world, a hero is considered as ... Show more

As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new
image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how
people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more
specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be successful.
Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as Beowulf, heroes were
modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient heroes such as Achilles in
Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were established and people became
more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on life and ended much of the barbarian
lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous god fearing person; so, saints became the
newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes today, but much more sparsely. This can be
accredited to various events in history including the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the
Renaissance came an increase in individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day
heroism. People of all types began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their
caliber. With the colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as
Christopher Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to
today, heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives.
Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the Hudson
River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was hailed as a
national hero (Chesley). Not only is the word hero used in relation to real events, but fictional
characters are also dubbed as heroes in modern

1. Recently, you sold 1,000 shares of stock for $21,400. The sale was a short sale with an initial
margin requirement of 60 percent. The maintenance margin is 30 percent. The stock is currently
trading at $27.50 a share. What is your current margin position in this stock?
Assets = $21,400
Equity = $21,400 x .60 = $12,840
Short position = 1,000 x $27.50 = $27,500
Account equity = $21,400 + $12,840 $27,500 = $6,740
Margin position = $6,740 / $27,500 = 24.51 %

What if the stock price declines by 25%? (note: 3% is annualized effective rate).

$55980 $41985 = $13995 Liability
3 % of 13995 = 209.93
$14204.93 + $41985 = $56189.93
Stock price increases by 25% = $77.75 per share
Stock price decreases by 25% = $46.65 per share

Opioids Case Study Essay
I. Opioids Study 1: Jae Hwang Song et al. divided 336 patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery
under sciatic or femoral sciatic nerve block into treatment and control groups Based on the date of
surgery. All the patients received a nerve block preoperatively. The block was established with mixture
of lidocaine and ropivacaine injection. In the postanesthesia recovery room, a transdermal patch of
fentanyl was applied to the chest of the patients with intravenous midazolam in the treatment group.
The primary outcome measure was the difference in the number of requests for additional
postoperative pain medication. The secondary outcome of interest was the degree of postoperative
pain using a visual analog scale (VAS). also, complications noticed. Metoclopramide was given to
nauseated patients (6). Results: 47.12% in the control group patients and 27.16% in the ... Show more

Group N showing a faster onset compared to group B and the time that was taken to achieve complete
block was shorter in group N. also, group N had prolonged postoperative analgesia (11). Discussion:
The onset of sensory and motor block was faster and time taken to attain complete sensory and motor
block to occur was shorter in the nalbuphine group as compared to bupivacaine group. Postoperative
regression of both sensory and motor block was significantly slower in group N than in group B and
the first rescue analgesic requirement in group N was significantly late than in group B. 0.8mg
intrathecal nalbuphine as an adjunct to spinal bupivacaine prolongs the postoperative analgesia with
minimal side effects and with desirable sedation intraoperatively which helps in taking care of
psychological impact of operation theatre environment. Rawal et al found that nalbuphine was the
least irritating to neural tissue even when used in large doses and was associated with minor

Examples Of Sorrow In A Mercy
Sorrow: suffering from loss or afflliction; feeling grief, sadness, or regret. Everyone has experienced a
time of sorrow in their lives, a time where they struggled through life because of something drastic
that happened to them. In the novel, A Mercy, by Toni Morrison, a mysterious character goes beyond
the simple feeling of sorrow. Toni Morrison decides to name one of her characters Sorrow, adding a
much deeper side of the character. Toni Morrison s use of figurative speech throughout the book helps
show Sorrow s dynamism into someone different, letting the audience learn that not everyone is who
they always seem to be. In the novel, Sorrow is presented to the audience as a mysterious slave, who
is pretty much useless. Sorrow first joined the household after being adopted by Jacob Vaark. Not
much is known about her because she was found along the shore with little background information.

Toni Morrison s uses of figurative speech helped deepen the feelings that Sorrow felt. In the
beginning, Sorrow was seen as a unusual character who seemed very incapable of doing anything. She
was a useless person around the house who could not do anything right. As the book continued,
Sorrow s life started to open up. The audience starts to see Sorrow s life, with power ful words that
they can relate to. They started to see the devastation that Sorrow felt when she lost a child, even
though she barely knew how to take care of anything. Sorrow may not be able to do anything but she
knows what love is. All her life, that is what she strived for: the love of her own baby that she did not
get to experience before. But with her new baby, Sorrow s life became

How Does W. Jacobs Create Tension In The Monkey s Paw
W.W. Jacobs created a story that is built off of suspense, tension, and mystery. There is alot of
foreshadowing and the word choice is very intriguing. The dialogue helps build tension in many ways.
One being the way that the group sees one another. There are alot of arguments throughout the piece
discussing how the monkey s paw should be taken care of and how it is used. The Monkey s Paw s
story is filled with suspense, tension, and foreshadowing. How was part one built? Well, part one was
made around the introduction of the mokeys paw and the powers it has. This builds a lot of tension in
the first part when the soldier in part on brings the monkey s paw to Mr. and Mrs. White. The soldier
said, I don t know what the first two were,

Those who are animal rights activists would affect the political aspect of the business. However, the
business has several legal laws and forms to deal with to keep the uniqueness and quality of the
products. Copyright is the most commonly known legal concern when dealing with right to reproduce
the work. Although, we need to consider the Visual Artists Rights Act because it defines visual arts as
a painting, drawing, print, or sculpture. It protects only unique works or signed, limited editions of two
hundred or fewer copies of sculpture, print, or photograph (Crawford, 2005, p. 17). This means that
many disciplines of the crafts, which may include leather crafts, may not be protected under Visual
Artist Rights Act. Some other legal aspect of the business is the selling local craftspeople s leather
goods. Contracts and negotiation forms must be legally reinforced so that each party gives some sort
of value to the product. Eventually, technological forces will become significantly important to Breezy
Leather Goods to have a broader market and to allow more consumers to have access to our product.
Similar to how Shinola in Detroit, Michigan has expanded. They started as a small business with
handcrafted leather goods and is still producing handcrafted leather items that anybody can obtain
with simple Internet access. Mass manufacturing will take away from the craftsmanship, but
technology will be necessary for promotion and

Kalam Cosmological Argument Analysis
The Kalam Cosmological argument is considered one of the most powerful argument for Gods
existence. The syllogism goes like this, Whatever begins to exist has a cause; The universe began to
exist; Therefore: The universe has a cause. Being able to give a reason to why one believes something
should be the foundation of one s belief. The universe either had a beginning or it is eternal, there is
no middle ground in the Kalam Cosmological argument (Vitale 103). Many will try and take premise
one of the argument and say that in physics there is no such thing as nothing. Instead, skeptics will say
that the universe doesn t need a creator because according to the laws of quantum mechanics it can
just come into existence from nothing. This nothing

ABSTRACT
I thought it would be fun to fling things like raw eggs and rocks with a catapult. Guess
what, it was! By flinging these items I tried to find out if heavier things would travel farther than
lighter ones. Basically how force effects motion.
With the catapult as the force, I sent items soaring, after weighing them, and then
recorded how far the items travelled. This showed me how Newtons Three Laws of Motion
work.

3. Weigh the items on a scale and record the results.
4. Measure out 40 feet in the yard with tape measure
5. Spray paint lines for each foot.
6. Conduct experiment with catapult pulled back to 180 degrees. (All the way back)
7. Record the results in log book.
8. Conduct experiment a second time with catapult pulled back to 90 degrees. (Half way back)
9. Record results of second experiment in log book.
Variables
My dependant variables are the amount of force which is shown by how far I pull back
the arm on the catapult. My independant variables are the items and their different weights
which represent mass/weight..
My experiment shows how my independant variables are effected by my depentant
variables as to force and motion.

Ray Charles was suffering from substance abuse disorder. Substance disorder is defined as a complex
behavioral disorder characterized by preoccupation with obtaining alcohol or other drugs (AOD) and a

impairment in social and occupational functioning. Ray Charles continued substance abuse caused

Therefore, the counselor needs to be someone that has a personality and willing to listen to Ray and
his stories. The therapist needs to approach Ray as a human and not a client. This will let Ray open up
to him/her and will allow for Ray to get deeper and deeper into his reasons of his drug addiction.
The first treatment that the therapist should enforce on Ray is inpatient treatment. Inpatient treatment
will allow him to be able to withdraw from the drug and not have the ability to relapse quickly.
Performing on the road was his introduction to his drug addiction; therefore, he needed a break from
the road to fully recover. While in inpatient treatment he will have one on one counseling as well as
group counseling. During his one on one counseling the therapist will include role playing. Ray
Charles should role play talking to his mom and expressing his feelings that he couldn t express at the
age 7 when his brother died. Ray carried the blame of his brother dying from childhood to his
adulthood without telling anyone how he felt at the time of the event. Therefore, the role playing will
let out all the hurt, blame, and uneasiness that were felt at that time. The therapist will act as the
mother and Ray will be allowed to dig deep in his inner feelings so that there will not be any need to
long for drugs. After this measure has been applied the therapist will then focus on the future of Ray
Charles life.

A Short Summary On Bad Habits
My Habits
I can definitely relate to Patsy, about the bad habits. If I could remember how I acted as a child, then I
would try to work towards that. I feel like I started my habits at a very young age because, my past
was difficult and I knew it was wrong with what I went through. I feel like I can tell people what I
went through as a kid which, I was sexually abused. But I know I have to drop it and move forward
because I feel like it is holding me back. I started to close off my happiness towards the males in my
family. I noticed that the people who hurt me, did not bother me anymore because my goal was to not
be around them anymore. That is when I started to feel comfortable with not talking to people about
how I was feeling because I felt embarrassed or ashamed. My bad habits started to kick in with me
being shy, not confident, not talking to boys, and trying to show I was happy. I stay quiet because I
feel safe and nobody will judge me on my voice or what I have to say or I have nothing to say. With
that, I do not know why my mouth is always closed. A lot of people say I look mad or sad which I can
understand but I cannot help it because its been a habit ever since I was able to understand my
feelings. Now that I am talking about all these habits, I wish we did not learn them because, they are
hard to let go. I am learning so much about myself in the first year of acting school! I am aware of my
habits and in the process of letting them go one step at a time. I use

Essay on Film
Everyone lives in a different reality, that is why people enjoy watching movies. It gives insight into
the world s of others. Film directors strive to portray their characters lives as believable as possible.
Many help set up the authenticity with costumes and such.
In The Governess Goldbacher sets the historical reality with subtle elegance. In the scene where
Rosina enters the dining area to inform her employers of her departure, all are dressed in attire
associated with the English Victorian era. The son in an oversized baggy shirt, the father with a smart

Towards the movie s beginning we see Elizabeth being interogated on treason charges. From a God s
Eye view she is seated alone in the middle surrounded by three men moving around her. The shot
mirrors that of the opening burning at the stake. When the camera recedes to her eye level,
occasionally cross shaped windows are visible on the back wall of the castle. This piece illustrates
how she must continually stand alone against those are out to oust her as their rightfull ruler, the caslte
s vast open space also helps to confirm her lack of support amoung the nobles. The windows portray
the on going religious battle.
In Raging Bull Scorsace portrays Jake LaMotta s life as a constant battle. At the turning point with the
montage sequence of flashbacks we see many short clips of his numerous bouts mixed with colorized
home video of his late courtship to early marriage with Vicky. This shows that he has no distinction
between the boxing ring and life in general. The home video having color only means that this was the
point in his life where he was most happiest, and he will always remember it vividly.
In Rocco and His Brothers Visconti conveys Rocco s strength through his self and moral sacrifices.
This is most evident in the scene on the bridge where Rocco denies himself and breaks up with Nadia
by telling her to go back to his brother Simone. It s not that Rocco doesn t love her, it s that his moral

Essay on Mongolian Management
The Mongolian Empire quickly conquered monumental sums of land in only a relatively small amount
of time, but their serious challenge was figuring out a way to govern and maintain the newly acquired
land. Genghis Khan united the Mongols and with their superior military skills, they toppled the
governments of surrounding nations and captured their lands. The Mongols who occupied each
subjected nation ruled the people and installed different government systems that fit their liking. The

Criminological Theory Of Subculture Essay
This essay will attempt to explain arson by applying the criminological theory of subculture theories.
The Oxford dictionary defines arson as the criminal act of deliberately setting fire to property . Brake
suggests a subculture is like a culture inside of a culture (Brake, 1985). A culture is defined by
Williams as a particular way of life which expressed certain meanings and values not only in art and
learning but also in intuitions and ordinary behaviour (Williams, 2012). Many people such as Albert

These were called criminal subculture, conflict subculture, and retreatist subculture. Criminal
subcultures tend to arise in areas surrounded by a lot of organized adult crime, this causes young
people to have criminal role models and learn how to commit criminal acts. In these subcultures,
young people can move up the subcultures social hierarchy by committing more crimes. They are
usually concerned with utilitarian crimes which yield a financial reward. Conflict subcultures tend to
arise in areas surrounded by very little organized adult crime, so instead of young people committing
serious monetary crimes, they are instead committing gang related crimes to gain gang reputation.
Retreatist subcultures tend to arise in areas where young people have managed to fail at both the
criminal and conflict subcultures and cam be classed as double failures . These individuals tend to
resolve to drugs and alcohol abuse to soothe the blow dealt by being rejected by the other subcultures.
Arson could fall under a gang related crime, which falls under conflict

In reality, of course, it s just the reverse. Clear, tough minded people are the most simple.
According to Tichy and Sherman (1993), Jack Welch saw reality objectively and consistently applied
this orientation. He was willing to face reality, even if it was different from that in the past: Facing
reality as it is, not as it was or as you wish ... facing reality is crucial in life, not just in business. You
have to see the world in the purest, cleanest way possible or you can t make decisions on a rational
basis.
As noted by Locke (2000), Welch was a problem finder, not just a problem solver. When he became
CEO in 1981, General Electric already was quite profitable, without obvious problems. He grasped the
reality that if the status quo continued GE eventually would decline, so he proceeded to transform the
company. Even during his final years at GE, Welch was not content to rest on his triumphs. Thrusts in
the 1990s included a massive quality program ( 6 sigma ), a push further into financial services, and a
string of acquisitions meant to give GE technological leadership in key industries.

Essay about America Needs a Larger Gas Tax
America Needs a Larger Gas Tax
Don t you hate driving up to the gas station to fill up your car with gasoline only to see that the price
has risen again. You stand there stunned for a moment. Just long enough for the rage to build up and
compell you to go into a frenzy of screaming obsceneties. Yes, it is a scene that happens all across the
country, but, I think I can offer some words of advice: Get used to it.
You may hate the gas prices now but if I had my way I would raise it a whole dollar more than what it
is now. Now before you gouge my eyes out let me explain. Gas prices should go up a dollar for three
reasons. First, we need to build a high speed rail system in America. We are long overdue for one and

We would keep it tightly regulated and only the
upmost security would be kept.
A high speed rail system would be a good idea for many reasons. Primarily, it would cut down on the
amount of people who drive or fly. In 1997 the government issued a report about how high speed
trains would help solve congestion problems that face our nation s highways and airports
(www.fra.dot.gov/o/hsgt/index.html). Also, most high speed trains require less fuel than your average
airplane or automobile.
Money left over form the tax, or if we choose to continue the tax just for this purpose, would be used
to help fund research on alternative fuels. They have already made a great many advances with
alternative fuels and hybrid cars. Honda has already made a that can travel up to 700 miles on one
tank of gas. And it can get up to 70 mpg on the highway
(www.consumerenergycenter.org/transportation/afv/hybrid.html). This kind of progress has all been
done within the last decade. Imagine with a little extra funding the progress that could be made.
Imagine, driving down the road, getting about 100 to 150 mpg. You would no longer have to even
worry about gas prices because you would only have to fill up about once a month, which leads me to
the next reason why raising gas prices would be a good idea.
If we raise gas prices now it ll mean a lot lower prices later on. Simple math will

Chief Walton Eager Case Study
Upon reviewing the required case study, the facts and concerns of the study are easily recognizable.
The first fact is that Chief Walton Eager experience before becoming chief was in the department he
currently runs (Cordner, 2016). Also, according to the reading he also apparently possesses some
people skills. Next, since receiving the appointment, he posts new policy and procedure on a bulletin
board to let his department know about desired guidelines. Additionally, the majority of the officers at
the Rixton Police Department use service style policing, and perform ethically and professionally.
However, there is a small number of officers that believe in aggressive law enforcement rather than
serving the public. Consequently, these set of facts listed in the case study present an enormous
amount of problems for the Rixton community.
Although Chief Eager is technically implementing new policies and procedures in the department, he
is failing to ensure that his officers understand (Cordner, 2016). The study does not refer Chief Eager
ensuring that his supervisors understand the new policies, nor ensuring that they will implement and
enforce them. When an administrator fails to confirm that new mandates are recognized and followed,

The Conflict Between Ralph And Jack
The conflict between Ralph and Jack shows how lack of civilization can result to savagery. Ralph
states, We need shelters contrasting to Jack who says, We need meat (Golding, p.42). The lack of
civilization in Jack shows because he thinks hunting is more important than shelters although he has
yet to catch a pig, while on the other hand Ralph thinks it s more important to build shelter for a sense
of home and protection from the rain and the beastie that all the littluns are afraid of. Let him be chief
with the trumpet thing (Golding, p. 15). This quote states that Ralph should be in charge because he
has the conch, and Jack gets upset since he is not voted chief but then Ralph puts him charge of the
choir boys who later on become the hunters. Ralph creates civilization when he is given power to
become the chief on the island, and he has the power with or without the conch. Later in the novel
when Ralph realizes he doesn t like being dirty and disliked perpetually flicking the tangled hair put of
his eyes, it shows that Ralph is used the civilization he had before and wants to return to that
civilization (Golding, p.66). Then Jack becomes an example of savagery when he shows up to the fire
in chapter 8, stark naked save for the paint and a belt (Golding, p.125). Ralph and his followers show
the civilized and orderly side of the island, but on the contrary, Jack and his tribe show the savagery of
man and barbaric side of the island. The contrasting images

The Apostle Paul
3.1 Describe Paul s gospel in regards to the elements he learned from the disciples in Jerusalem and in
regards to those elements he received by revelation. To whom did Paul talk when he went to
Jerusalem? How do we know? Show the similarities and differences between tradition and revelation
in Paul s gospel.
Three years after his conversion, Paul went to Jerusalem to meet with Cephas (Peter). He remained in
Jerusalem for fifteen days. After this time, he also met with James, the Lord s brother. It was from
Peter that Paul learned of the tradition, i.e., the details of Jesus teachings during His earthly ministry.

In discussing the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, Paul uses almost the same words to convey the
fact that he was transmitting the original traditions. He says in I Corinthians, For I delivered to you as
of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins...
In the parable of the prodigal son , Jesus tells of a father s unconditional love and acceptance to his
repentant son to illustrate God the Father s unconditional love and grace to repentant sinners. Paul
follows accordingly in his teaching where he emphasizes that believers are no longer slaves but
legitimate sons and heirs of God.
In the parable of the laborers in the vineyard, Jesus teaches that His love and grace are unmerited and
do not depend on what one does or doesn t do. Grace is grace, and it is free for all at whatever time of
life it is accepted. Paul s teaching confirms this. In Galatians, Paul reproves the Galatian believers for
thinking that salvation could be changed from faith in God s grace to dependence on the law. The
merging of tradition and revelation in both of the gospel parables mentioned above resonate with me.
It is important for contemporary hearers of the Word of God to know that the salvation from God is
unconditional and unmerited. It is not dependent on what one does or doesn t do, but on the love and
grace of almighty God through His Son Jesus

Microfinance Is The Best Option Help People Out Of Poverty
Microfinance is grown to one of the biggest areas in fighting again poverty, it can be discussed, if
microcredits are the best option to help people out of poverty. In the past it was almost impossible for
the poor population of the world to get a loan with acceptable conditions. Banks would not lend to the
poor, because the risk of losing the money was too high for them, which meant poor people in Africa
had no chance of getting a loan from big banks. The so called money lenders would take advantage of
this situation, and give the poor an opportunity to receive a loan. The money lenders were not trying to
help the poor, they just wanted to earn money, thinking on their own personal benefit. That s why their
loans have insane conditions with interest payments of a couple hundred percent. If someone could
not pay back the loan in time, they would take everything from the customers, and maybe even kill
them. This was the only opportunity for poor people to get a loan until microfinance was born.
Another problem is, that women have been excluded from the banking system in general in some
regions of the world, because that was nothing women would do in their culture. In most cultures it
was implemented, that women are staying at home, taking care of the house, children, and food. Men
would go to work and earn the money for the family needed for the cost of living. It would also be
more complicated for women to get a loan, because they traditionally work less than men, and

Linda Loman s Life
Is it possible that human aspirations can kill a person? The author, Arthur Miller, alive during the end
of the Great Depression, uses this setting and the difficulties a family may face to become the
framework for his play, Death of a Salesman . Set during the post war era, he writes about a father
who strives to achieve the American Dream of financial success and his family that does not have his
same aspirations. Miller creates these characters with striking and relatable human qualities. In the
tragic stage play, Death of a Salesman , Arthur Miller creates Willy Loman as the most compassionate
and sacrificing character, Linda Loman as the strong link holding the family together, and Biff Loman
as the individual most in touch with reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arthur Miller uses Biff as the truth teller as he, take that phony dream and burn it before something
happens (Miller 1706). Biff views life s success as happy and being content rather than focusing on
unreachable wealth. Biff realizes that he is never going to be successful and wishes to be released
from his father s far fetched dreams. Realizing that despite everything he has done, Biff is unable to
make his father happy. He has a dream of working on a ranch, which shows that he is reasonable and
due to his past physical abilities would be a very plausible dream. Biff further recognizes his father s
detachment from reality as he states, We never told the truth for ten minutes in this house (Miller
1708). At this point in the tragedy, he is trying to show his father and his brother that they have been
lying to each other. Biff tries to teach his father that facing reality doesn t mean failure. Genuine and
realistic expectations are sufficient as admirable goals.
The Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, uses characters such as Willy Loman, Linda Loman, and
Biff Loman to represent sacrifice, honor, and a sense of reality. Throughout the play, these concepts
are developed through these characters and relationships, which have an impact on the outcome of the
story. The interactions of these characters, promotes self awareness and understanding of one s

Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson is one of America s greatest poets, her work was original and
unique, and the speakers in her poem would often express what limitations they saw in their society
and how they wish they could escape it. Although Dickinson became a famous poet, she didn t want
her work published, during her lifetime other people would have some of her poems published. The
poems that were published were considered to be eccentric and were altered significantly by
publishers. Dickinson often wrote about the idea of being famous and how much she would dread it if
she ever did become famous because she felt that it wouldn t allow her to stay true to herself. Upon
her death thousands of poems were discovered by her family and were eventually published, these
poems are what cemented her legacy as one of the greatest poets to ever live. Emily Dickinson was
born in 1830 to a prominent family, her father was a well respected lawyer. Dickinson was well
educated, she had attended school from a very young age and also attended Amherst Academy, her
father wanted his children to be well educated and he reminded them to pay attention in school and
learn as much as possible. At age 15 Dickinson left the academy and began to attend Mount Holyoke
Female Seminary but after a year she left and went back home, nobody knows why she left but some
believe this was the beginning of her reclusiveness. From an early age Dickinson began to write and
some of her influences included her principal and a friend who was an attorney that worked with her
father. In addition, one day during a trip to Philadelphia she befriended a minister who also became a
great influence, she would correspond with him, often writing letter just like she would with everyone
else. Dickinson also experienced many deaths of friends that affected her profoundly and it caused her
to become depressed, sometimes expressing it in her writings. In addition, she would often express
herself in statements to others not being able to understand why those close to her were constantly
dying, she also expressed her depression, and she even wondered if she should die too, it is believe
that these tragedies are also the reason for her reclusiveness. Emily Dickinson

Breast Cancer Awareness And Cancer
Breast Cancer Awareness
Cancer cells can grow on any part of your body, and start when cells begin to grow out of control and
eventually become invasive. What is breast cancer? (2015, June 10) The breast is made up of lobes
that have 15 to 20 sections and in each lobe there are many small sections that are called lobules. The
lobules end in tiny bulbs that produce milk, the bulbs, lobes, and lobules are all linked by thin tube
called ducts. Breasts also contain blood and lymph vessels. Lymph vessels carry lymph between the
lymph nodes, which are small bean shaped structures that can be found through out the body. Lymph
nodes filter the substances that go through the lymph to help fight infection and disease. Breast Cancer

How Did The Us Convert To The Metric System
When the United States separated from Britain they kept the original Imperial measurement system
despite disregarding the previous government. Ever since America has used inches, feet, and yards as
standard measurement. However, while the U.S. continued to use the imperial system other countries
progressed. In 1799, after the french revolution, France converted to the metric system. Invented by
Gabriel Monton in France 1670, the metric system uses common powers of ten to measure weight and
lengths so that it could be conveniently used with decimals. Soon the metric system had spread from
France to Britain and most of the world. Countries now use the metric system to measure length, area,

Erechteinon On The Acropolis In Athens

Plate Tectonic Analysis
The plate tectonic theory states that rigid plates slowly ride on the molten mantle. The boundaries
between the plates are known to serve as an important mineral resource. Three types of tectonic plate
exist: convergent, divergent and transform boundaries. A convergent boundary represents two plates
moving towards each other mostly forming a subduction. When two plates move away from each
other, a divergent boundary is formed. In transform boundaries, the plates move laterally past each
other (Mission, 2016).
Within the mid ocean ridges forming a divergent boundary, a zone of low pressure is formed allowing
magma to rise to the surface. Potentially valuable metals are present in the hot magma. The valuable
deposits are further concentrated by leaching of metals from water permeating the rocks (Mission,
2016). The water circulating through the rocks is heated by the magma forming hydrothermal fluids.
The hot hydrothermal fluids form black smokers covering the sea floor and are rich in sulfur
containing minerals, for instance, galena, a lead sulfide, and pyrite, an iron sulfide (Mission, 2016). ...

The volcanoes heat up water percolating through the rocks and the dissolved minerals are carried to
surrounding rocks. This kind of deposit represents the majority of world s copper supply (Mission,

is the Mother Lode of the Sierra Nevada containing gold deposits. Once volcanic mountains from
subduction erode, portions of silver, gold or other metals may flow into streams and their
accumulation forms placer deposits. Other resources are the Ophiolites, a rich source of chromium
which is formed from portions of oceanic crust emplaced on continents after subduction events

used portrays that this is the extent of their world. They are trapped. Then the term business is used, a

that deaths are so frequent in the setting that it has become normality. This sentence in the setting may
have therefore been used by Jones to portray how devastating the war is and to help us to understand
his purpose in showing the brutality and loss in the written text. In relation to the wider world, during
World War One and Two, soldier and civilian deaths skyrocketed. At first each individual was
mourned and paid with honour but as time went on each death just became another statistic as with the

Definition Of Beauty In American Culture
It s human nature to desire to be perceived as beautiful, but who determines what beauty is or looks
like? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines beauty as the quality of being physically attractive;
qualities a person possesses that gives pleasure to the senses or the mind (Merriam Webster). The
definition of beauty can vary greatly between cultures and countries. We ll explore the similarities and
differences of beauty in Asian and American cultures. The concept of beauty in most Asian countries
is identified within Caucasian (Anglo Saxon) standards. Many Asian women are unaware of the fact
that this standard of beauty was shaped by the influences of Caucasian standards on their society. A
beautiful Asian woman is described as thin, pale skinned, black or brown hair, and dark brown eyes.
Modern Asian women often seek to have blonde hair and colored eyes which further personifies

The Pilgrim s Role In The New Plymouth Colonies
The Pilgrims, were an English group trying to escape religious persecution from the Church of
England, by fleeing to Holland. While in Holland, the Pilgrims received a land patent from the
Virginia Company. The Pilgrims created their own joint stock company to finance their trip to the New
World. In 1620, led by William Bradford, the Pilgrims boarded the Mayflower and set sail for
Virginia. While Virginia was their destination, a storm blow them off course and they came to land on
a place they called Plymouth. Since the Pilgrims were not in Virginia under the authority of the
Virginia Company, they considered themselves to be independent and created their own government
under the Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower Compact was the fundamental document spelling out
laws for the new Plymouth Colony. It was an agreement or covenant signed by 41 men aboard the
Mayflower. In the covenant the colonists in unity bound themselves together by promising to abide by
the new government laws to ensure protection and survival. Unlike the colonists in Jamestown, the
purpose of the Pilgrims was of a religious nature, their desire to create a pure society under the
authority of God.

In the traditional education environments, the duty of the students is to adhere the education activities
as a passive receiver and memorize the content of the lesson (Surmeli 2007: 30). PowerPoint
presentations create more powerful sensory alerts when compared with the traditional education
materials (blackboard, overhead projections, etc.)While giving the lessons with PowerPoint
presentations, the content of the lesson stays the same, but the form of transmitting the lesson to the
student changes. The PowerPoint presentations which are prepared for lessons have the advantages
such as having strong colors, gradual building of text, simple animation of diagrams, facilities for
simple editing and updating (Lowry 1999:19). Thus it can be mentioned that the PowerPoint
presentations provide significant time and force savings. As the popularity of the PowerPoint
presentations increase, the studies concerning the pedagogical results of the usage of this tool increase.
The advantages of giving lessons with the PowerPoint presentations could be generalized as follows in
the light of the academic studies till now: * PowerPoint contributes to properly forming the course
content and giving lesson (Sugahara amp; Boland 2006: 392, Hlynka amp; Mason 1998: 47, Nouri

Essay On Black Panther
The Black Panther party was founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966. The Panthers placed
militant self defense of minority communities against the U.S Government, and fought to establish
revolutionary socialism through mass organizing and community based program. (Baggins, Brian.
Black Panther Party, www.marxists.org/history/usa/workers/black panthers/.). During the 1960 s the
civil rights movement was at its full strength. The BPP fought for change in America for African
Americans and even other minority groups too. They wrote the Black Panther: Ten Pointe Program in
the book War Against the Panthers by Huey Newton. It was a list of wants they believe they deserved
from the government. For example, point 2 in the list said We want full employment for our people ,
during this time period many African Americans and other minority groups were being discriminated
against by not being hired by the business owners. Leaving many minority people out of work, barely

The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Gain and loss are intimately connected and in a constant struggle for balance. This pair of themes is
intertwined through many works of literature, such as, Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, William
Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew, and Robert L. Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde. Each of these works consists of elements of gain and loss that serve a very crucial
purpose to both the characters and the plot. For instance in Frankenstein and The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde we find that, oftentimes, in order to gain understanding about life, one loses a lot
in life. And in The Taming of the Shrew, readers see that someone s gain can be another s loss. I have
lost everything and cannot begin life anew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, his thirst for eminence clouded his practical judgment and his morality. Frankenstein
made a choice. A choice that resulted in a great fall from which he was never, never again to rise
(Shelley, 188). He chose to sacrifice the world he had originally wanted to advance and abandoned his
own creation in a hypercritical world and consequently lost his humanity. Meanwhile, his creation
battled to understand the world around him. He hoped to gain many things from this beautiful world
for he had nothing to lose besides curiosity and innocence. Sadly, the creation lost even his innocence
and initial fascination and instead gained hate, anger, and vengeance on his creator. He gained an
understanding of how people judge others by their appearances despite their true nature and well
intentioned actions. He realized that no one will accept him despite his efforts and so he lost the
respect and compassion he had for humans and despised his creator for bringing him into such a
hateful world. He was compelled to commit actions that defied his own morals and hence lost his will
to be good. He once disclosed the pain he suffers when murdering humans. Do you think that I was
then dead to agony and remorse?... My heart was fashioned to be susceptible of love and sympathy,
and when wrenched by misery to vice and hatred, it did not endure the violence of the change without
torture such as you cannot even imagine (Shelley, 195). Eventually, Dr.

Ankle Sprains
Introduction
Ankle sprain injuries are most common in team sports that include contact, jumping, sharp cutting
manoeuvres and running, such as football, volleyball, handball and basketball (Fong et al and Thacker
et al). Pefanis et al found that 10% to 30% of the injuries recorded in football, basketball and
volleyball are ankle sprains.
According to physioroom.com, ankle sprain is the 2nd most common injury footballer players suffer
from. Woods et al found that over two seasons in the English football leagues, 11% of the injuries
recorded were ankle sprains, and 77% of these involved the lateral ligament complex. They also found
that defenders (35%) and midfielders (31%) were the playing positions affected the most. In a UEFA
injury study, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ankle sprains usually occur in professional football as a result from a tackle, making sharp cutting
edge movements, or landing awkwardly after jumping. The most common type of ankle sprain is to
the lateral ligaments (anterior talofibular, calcaneofibular and posterior talofibular ligaments) after
inversion plantar flexion and internal rotation of the ankle (85% of all reported ankle injuries).
At the time of the injury the athlete would feel pain on the lateral side of his ankle, and the ankle
would show signs of swelling and bruising (the swelling might start on impact, but it could also take a
few hours depending on the severity of the injury). A snap or tear sound may be heard, but it is not of
diagnostic significance (Tropp et al, Garrick, aofas.org, Khan and Bruker, nsmi.org and Yeung et al).
The ankle sprain could be person related, like when the individual perform poorly executed tackles or
cutting manoeuvres to cause the inversion of the ankle. The injury could also be a result of
environmental risk factors, like the condition/irregularity of the pitch/field, position the athlete plays
in, and foul play (Willems et al and

Dopamine Functions In The Brain
Author Sally Robertson discusses how dopamine functions in the brain. Dopamine is a member of a
class of molecules called the catecholamines , which serve as neurotransmitters and hormones. In the
brain, dopamine serves as a neurotransmitter and is released from nerve cells to send signals to other
nerves. Dopamine has already been proven to have roles in thinking, memory, movement and reward.
However, researchers have shown that dopaminergic neurotransmission plays a central role in
modulating pain perception and analgesia within certain parts of the brain including the insula,
thalamus, basal ganglia, anterior cingulate cortex and periaqueductal gray. In cases of acute pain
suffered after an injury, pain signals are sent from the site of

Lab Report On The Effect Of Water Temperature On Fish Growth
Leah Espenhahn February 16, 2015 Period 4 The Effect of Water Temperature on the Growth Rate of
Bluegills Introduction In this experiment, the effect of water temperature, from 2 to 44℃, on the rate
of growth of male bluegill frys will be studied. This is an important thing to study because Earth is
warming, so it would be good to learn what this increase in temperature does to fish growth rates. This
is also important because fish are a major food source and there is great overfishing,s so if it was
learned the best temperature for the rate of growth of bluegills, bluegill farms could more easily grow
bluegills in the shortest amount of time and not rely on the environment to produce them, thus
reducing overfishing. Wetlands include ecosystems such as swamps, bogs, and marshes. They are
extremely important, providing flood protection by acting as a sponge, holding and slowly releasing
any water runoff that comes in contact with them. This includes holding flood waters, preventing
floods from occurring. Also, wetland plants will trap soil with their roots and can absorb the energy of
waves thereby preventing shoreline erosion. They naturally improve water quality by filtering water
runoff, and some groundwater, saving millions of dollars of waste water treatment. It has been
estimated that wetlands provide shellfishing and fishing companies with 15 billion dollars worth of
catch (EPA, Wetlands and People ), including bluegills. Not only do wetlands supply all these

Empathy In Harvest Gypsies
A Heart Behind Words
Authors empower our understanding of the world through compassion and empathy. Meaning to make
readers share and understand the feelings of another. In Harvest Gypsies by John Steinbeck the author
informs of two families and their tussles for survival. In the same manner, Kevin Starr in his excerpt
titled Endangered Dreams tells of a family and their daily troubles. Both taken place during the great
depression they both depict the hardships of migrant families trapped in poverty. While Dorothea
Lange helped readers perceive the poor living conditions of the 1900 s through her photo, John
Steinbeck helped evoke the most empathy through his descriptiveness, straightforward style, and
listing of dramatic events.
To begin with, Lange helped perceive the poor living conditions of the 1900 s through her photo of the
migrant mother and three children. For instance, Lange with her photo of the migrant mother helped
raise awareness, for the federal government gave the pea pickers camp, where the migrant mother had
been distinguished, twenty thousand pounds of food . (Starr 48) The photo of the unfortunate pea
pickers helped people realize how hopeless they really were. This creating a willingness to help.
Showing Lange s photography ability to create empathy through a simple photo. In addition, the
mother was so desperate for help that when the picture was taking place, there she sat in the lean to
tent motionless. (Starr 47) The migrant mother was so

Abstract The historical context of globalization covers centuries. This paper divides those centuries
into three eras. The first era covers the fifteenth through eighteenth centuries and views globalization
through the lens of individuals who struggled to overcome natural, governmental, religious and
economic barriers in their quest for wealth, freedom, position, and power. Throughout this era, the
world of commerce was encumbered by territorial boundaries. The second era covers the nineteenth

  • 2. Examples Of Heroism In Beowulf Heroism and Its Adaptation Over Time (Prompt #3) Heroism is defined as great bravery, but there are many interpretations of what great bravery truly signifies. Over time the image of heroism is altered to conform to cultural beliefs and morals. Often times, heroes are written into poems, or stories to set an exceptionally high standard and become a role model for people in their time period. In the famous epic, Beowulf, the ideal hero is portrayed as a superior warrior who is able to overcome unthinkable means. This proposal of a warrior as a hero did not last long in history, however. As times changed, people developed different values and beliefs that transformed a hero from a warrior to a saint. In today s world, a hero is considered as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As new religions develop and spread, people began to form a new idea of perfection. As the new image of an ideal hero was formed, poems, books, and such were written to set example for how people should act in their day and age. The reason that these heroes change over time more specifically is due to their lifestyles. In ancient times, people required different traits to be successful. Due to the warring lifestyle that was existent during the writing of texts such as Beowulf, heroes were modeled to be great fighters. This is also consistent with other ancient heroes such as Achilles in Greek Mythology; however, this changed over time as religions were established and people became more civilized. Religion gave people a more positive outlook on life and ended much of the barbarian lifestyle. The new idea of a hero developed into a righteous god fearing person; so, saints became the newfound role models. Saints are still seen as heroes today, but much more sparsely. This can be accredited to various events in history including the Renaissance and Protestant Reformation. With the Renaissance came an increase in individualistic thinking, and so on the entire root of modern day heroism. People of all types began highly regarding artists and philosophers, longing to be of their caliber. With the colonization of the Americas also came a new type of hero. Adventurers such as Christopher Columbus were praised received glory for their accomplishment. Jumping forward to today, heroes are labeled daily for their acts of bravery and quick thinking abilities that save lives. Everyday individuals such as pilot Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot that crash landed into the Hudson River, are remembered as heroes for saving lives, as stated many times that He was hailed as a national hero (Chesley). Not only is the word hero used in relation to real events, but fictional characters are also dubbed as heroes in modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, we need to consider the Visual Artists Rights Act because it defines visual arts as a painting, drawing, print, or sculpture. It protects only unique works or signed, limited editions of two hundred or fewer copies of sculpture, print, or photograph (Crawford, 2005, p. 17). This means that many disciplines of the crafts, which may include leather crafts, may not be protected under Visual Artist Rights Act. The syllogism goes like this, Whatever begins to exist has a cause; The universe began to exist; Therefore: The universe has a cause. Being able to give a reason to why one believes something should be the foundation of one s belief. The universe either had a beginning or it is eternal, there is no middle ground in the Kalam Cosmological argument (Vitale 103). • 15. A Short Summary On Bad Habits My Habits I can definitely relate to Patsy, about the bad habits. If I could remember how I acted as a child, then I would try to work towards that. I feel like I started my habits at a very young age because, my past was difficult and I knew it was wrong with what I went through. I feel like I can tell people what I went through as a kid which, I was sexually abused. But I know I have to drop it and move forward because I feel like it is holding me back. I started to close off my happiness towards the males in my family. I noticed that the people who hurt me, did not bother me anymore because my goal was to not be around them anymore. That is when I started to feel comfortable with not talking to people about how I was feeling because I felt embarrassed or ashamed. My bad habits started to kick in with me being shy, not confident, not talking to boys, and trying to show I was happy. I stay quiet because I feel safe and nobody will judge me on my voice or what I have to say or I have nothing to say. With that, I do not know why my mouth is always closed. A lot of people say I look mad or sad which I can understand but I cannot help it because its been a habit ever since I was able to understand my feelings. Now that I am talking about all these habits, I wish we did not learn them because, they are hard to let go. I am learning so much about myself in the first year of acting school! Microfinance Is The Best Option Help People Out Of Poverty Microfinance is grown to one of the biggest areas in fighting again poverty, it can be discussed, if microcredits are the best option to help people out of poverty. In the past it was almost impossible for the poor population of the world to get a loan with acceptable conditions. Banks would not lend to the poor, because the risk of losing the money was too high for them, which meant poor people in Africa had no chance of getting a loan from big banks. The so called money lenders would take advantage of this situation, and give the poor an opportunity to receive a loan. The money lenders were not trying to help the poor, they just wanted to earn money, thinking on their own personal benefit. That s why their loans have insane conditions with interest payments of a couple hundred percent. If someone could not pay back the loan in time, they would take everything from the customers, and maybe even kill them. This was the only opportunity for poor people to get a loan until microfinance was born. Another problem is, that women have been excluded from the banking system in general in some regions of the world, because that was nothing women would do in their culture. In most cultures it was implemented, that women are staying at home, taking care of the house, children, and food. Men would go to work and earn the money for the family needed for the cost of living. It would also be more complicated for women to get a loan, because they traditionally work less than men, and ... • 33. Plate Tectonic Analysis The plate tectonic theory states that rigid plates slowly ride on the molten mantle. The boundaries between the plates are known to serve as an important mineral resource. Three types of tectonic plate exist: convergent, divergent and transform boundaries. A convergent boundary represents two plates moving towards each other mostly forming a subduction. When two plates move away from each other, a divergent boundary is formed. In transform boundaries, the plates move laterally past each other (Mission, 2016). Within the mid ocean ridges forming a divergent boundary, a zone of low pressure is formed allowing magma to rise to the surface. Potentially valuable metals are present in the hot magma. The valuable deposits are further concentrated by leaching of metals from water permeating the rocks (Mission, 2016). The water circulating through the rocks is heated by the magma forming hydrothermal fluids. The wartime setting of Bougainville was central to the writer s purpose, once again, when Grace passed away. The village mourns the loss and buries her body as a community. Matilda states the process of her burial as it was the world getting on with its business . The way that the term world is used portrays that this is the extent of their world. They are trapped. Then the term business is used, a term with connotations of formality, clinicalness, and removal. This term may have been used to show that deaths are so frequent in the setting that it has become normality. This sentence in the setting may have therefore been used by Jones to portray how devastating the war is and to help us to understand his purpose in showing the brutality and loss in the written text. In relation to the wider world, during World War One and Two, soldier and civilian deaths skyrocketed. At first each individual was mourned and paid with honour but as time went on each death just became another statistic as with the setting witnessed in Mister Pip . Another time that the wartime setting of Bougainville was central to the writer s purpose was when the Redskins arrived in the village for the last time in the novel. They arrived again in search of Pip, a character that they did not know to of been a character in the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. He did not exist. First, the media depicts wrongly of middle class blacks. Secondly, it presents television shows that doesn t illustrate how the working class are living. Lastly, it shows whites as the wealthy ones in the class. The class is portrayed as one but it is actually imbalances of two different kinds of class. With TV shows portraying the working class as something else and whites being presented as if they are not part of the working class, it leads Deresiewicz to ask What is the working class? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines beauty as the quality of being physically attractive; qualities a person possesses that gives pleasure to the senses or the mind (Merriam Webster). The definition of beauty can vary greatly between cultures and countries. We ll explore the similarities and differences of beauty in Asian and American cultures. The concept of beauty in most Asian countries is identified within Caucasian (Anglo Saxon) standards. Many Asian women are unaware of the fact that this standard of beauty was shaped by the influences of Caucasian standards on their society. Lab Report On The Effect Of Water Temperature On Fish Growth Leah Espenhahn February 16, 2015 Period 4 The Effect of Water Temperature on the Growth Rate of Bluegills Introduction In this experiment, the effect of water temperature, from 2 to 44℃, on the rate of growth of male bluegill frys will be studied. This is an important thing to study because Earth is warming, so it would be good to learn what this increase in temperature does to fish growth rates. This is also important because fish are a major food source and there is great overfishing,s so if it was learned the best temperature for the rate of growth of bluegills, bluegill farms could more easily grow bluegills in the shortest amount of time and not rely on the environment to produce them, thus reducing overfishing. Wetlands include ecosystems such as swamps, bogs, and marshes. They are extremely important, providing flood protection by acting as a sponge, holding and slowly releasing any water runoff that comes in contact with them. This includes holding flood waters, preventing floods from occurring. Also, wetland plants will trap soil with their roots and can absorb the energy of waves thereby preventing shoreline erosion. They naturally improve water quality by filtering water runoff, and some groundwater, saving millions of dollars of waste water treatment. It has been estimated that wetlands provide shellfishing and fishing companies with 15 billion dollars worth of catch (EPA, Wetlands and People ), including bluegills.
