British Rule in India and the Response of Indian Society
India is a country that is rich in culture and spiritual beliefs. This all changed when the British
landed a company that not only changed the societal business but also the government rule as well
as their cultural aspects. This company was named the East India Company. With its gradual
expansion, the company managed to build English communities in Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras;
the three presidency states of India. Although the East India Company s intentions where to pursue
and expand trade with the East Indies, they manage to gain control of India by utilizing military
power. The appointed governor general of this company was Warren Hasting who established the

question on how the nation state was going to be divided. The Partition of Bengal was developed in
1905 by a Viceroy named Lord Curzon. It was encourage for administrative motives. Due to its
enormous population, it was hard to manage. The government thought it would been a good idea to
divide Bengal into two because they know that they can never mix Hindu s and Muslim s together.
Muslim s highly favored this partition due to having a dominated control over the area, while
Hindus opposed it because they did not want Muslim s to have much of a control over them. The
Hindus protest against this partition led to Muslims forming a Muslim organization called the All
Muslim League. Muslims wanted to secure their place in eastern Bengal. Muhammed Ali Jinnah
was the leader whom tried to unite the Muslims and Hindus to gain the independence of India. But
he failed to unite the two nations and in a conference in Lahore in 1940, he stated: Hindus and the

Contemporary Issues On Public Management

1
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN PUBLIC MANAGEMENT
Select one example or issue from the public sectors of a major public policy. Explore in essay how
that current policy problem in government is relevant to and then undercuts the quality of public
service and the operation of key regime values and political character traits
In his book Theories of the Policy Process (2007) Paul Sabatier described the public policymaking
process as follows: problems are conceptualized and brought to government for solution;
governmental institutions formulate alternatives and select policy solutions; and those solutions
get implemented, evaluated, and revised (p. 3). For the purpose of this essay the Social Security and
its financial soundness problem will be considered. The alternative solutions to this problem will
be reviewed. The range of services provided by the Social Security Administration will be reviewed
with an emphasis on quality component of the public service delivery.
The financial soundness of the Social Security system is an important issue which gets frequent
attention from politicians, public servants, citizenry, and media. If the established system would
fail financially at any point in the future, it will significantly undercut the quality of public service
and undermine the trust of citizenry in the existence of the safety net within the country. It is
important to understand the nature of the problems existing within the

The Effect Of Chemical Reactions On The Rate Of Reaction
A chemical reaction is the interaction of two or more chemicals that produces a new chemical
compound, most reactions require an increase in temperature, pressure, surface area, concentration
or the inclusion of a catalysts to speed up the rate of reaction. Chemical reactions can be found in
everyday life, without many of us knowing. Either it be a soluble tablet in water, or photosynthesis
in a plant. The prerequisites for a reaction are known as the Collision Theory . As stated by M.
Ferguson (2016), For a reaction to occur, particles must collide, with sufficient energy(also known
as activation energy) in the correct orientation to break the existing bonds between the particles .
There are many factors that influence the rate of reaction, these include: an increase in,
temperature, concentration, surface area (SA), pressure and a catalyst. When a gas, liquid or
solid solution is heated, the molecules of that particular chemical gain kinetic energy, and thus
move faster, allowing for more frequent and successful collisions. This allows for the product to
be formed much faster than if the molecules had less kinetic energy. If the concentration of a
solution has increased, there will be more molecules in the same volume, which allows for the
molecules to collide more frequently. This process speeds up the rate of reaction more so, than if
there were fewer molecules in the same volume. An increase in surface area of a solid substance
allows for an increase in rate of

Gandhi s Influence On Society
Mahatma Gandhi was born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on the 2nd of October, 1869, at
Porbandar located in Gujarat. Gandhi s father was the chief minister of Porbandar and his
mother was engulfed in religious devotion. As his mother was involved so deeply in religion
Gandhi s upbringing was enshrined with the Jain pacifist teachings of mutual tolerance, non
injury to living beings and vegetarianism. Gandhi was born into a privileged castle and was
provided with a comprehensive education. At the age of 19, Gandhi left home to study law in
London. Gandhi was determined to adhere to his religious principles which included
vegetarianism as well as alcohol and sexual abstinence. Gandhi initially found London rather
restrictive however eventually delved into the philosophical study of religions which included:
Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and others. After admission to the English Bar he returned to
India where he at first struggled but then in 1893 joined an Indian firm in South Africa. Gandhi
then spent the next 21 years of his life living in South Africa and within those 21 years he railed
against the injustice or racial segregation. On one occasion Gandhi was catching a train and then
as a result of his race he was thrown out of first class, the racial bias acted as a catalyst for his
later activism. Gandhi founded a political movement called the Natal Indian Congress and

Stress Of Stress In Nursing
With the high demand of medical professionals and increasing numbers of people with chronic
diseased, there might be a time where one nurse have to over see more patients than normal. Taking
care of extra patients than normal might bring some work burnout and prevent nursing
professionals from performing their job effectively. A study was done to measure the stress
level of
nurses working on the oncology department and the effect of stress leading the nurses to consider
looking for job in other departments. It was found that 35% of the nurses were experiencing
emotional stress and 17 % were depersonalized which then resulted in considering for other
opportunities in less stressful departments (Davis S, Lind BK, Sorensen C, 2013). Stress can be
experience from many factors such as death of a patient, patient s family history, severity of patient
s health condition, and emotional attachment with patients. As a nursing professional, one have to
witness devastating situations such as death of loved ones. It has been found that death and close
relationship with patients and working environment are the main factors causing stress among
nurses (Pavlos S et. al, 2016). Despite the fact that nursing professionals have to go through many
stressful situations at work and may be in their personal life, how much attentive can they be while
performing their nursing duties?
It requires a lot of positive attitude and strong personality to be able to perform nursing duties

Female Archetypes
One Hundred Years of Female Archetypes Throughout the years, different forms of literature have
generally stereotyped women and shown them as weaker than men. They have played archetypes
such as the mother or the lover, which have traits less desirable than the roles men would take.
These archetypes tend to limit their personalities and they become characters that are solely there
for inconveniencing the hero and creating obstacles. Throughout history many people have made
efforts to change these archetypes and make them more desirable. Even though archetypes for
women have been shown as weak, it has changed throughout the years. Literature is a main example
that shows how stereotypes and genderroles for women have been affected... Show more content on

While archetypes are still able to exist, they are able to be more rounded characters without
limitations on their personalities. This can be seen in books such as The Hunger Games, where
the main character Katniss Everdeen is a strong female character who is able to fight and
defend herself and is also able to act motherly and care for her sister, Prim. Characters portrayed
as either gender are able to keep ideas for that gender from the past while also being capable of
being more modern and more desirable. (BrГЁgent Heald). Although weak female characters still
exist in current literature, Bella from Twlight being a very familiar example of a weak character
who constantly relies on men to save her and becomes a motherly figure by the end, there are many
other female characters in current series that make up for it

Reflection Paper On Narcissism
Reading this week s articles became all too personal for me as I began to reflect on the book that
I am writing in which the protagonist is a narcissist. When telling people about my book most
people cannot get past the fact that the protagonist is my mother, but her narcissistic personality
is what created the storyline for my entire text. She has many of the classic attributes of a
narcissist, my favorite (from a writer s perspective) is her immense lack of empathy. It is
extremely incredible that what little empathy she can find she can control based on who she is
with and what the specific circumstances are. While the book may shed light on some of the
negative things she has done in her past or the negative behaviors associated with her narcissismI
have been sure to include an entire chapter detailing my belief that narcissism should be considered
an objective personality type. Narcissism has an enormous amount of negative connotation
surrounding it which is ironic to be because there are positive attributes some of which many of us
share.
The article mentioned, Most of us have elements of all three, when referring to the three main
personality types of erotics, obsessives, and narcissists (Maccoby). I agree with Maccoby which
is why I think it is important that we continue to find a place in the workplace for those who are
narcissistic and abrasive because even though we may not agree with their style we must
welcome diversity in order to avoid groupthink. I think that ensuring a well balanced mix of
personalities in a workplace can boost production and allow leaders to rise from the shadows of
abrasive and narcissistic leaders who may have overstayed their welcome. Another benefit to
maintaining the abrasive personality in the workplace is to encourage the high achiever in the
room who may have the leadership skills to take over a conversation and just need the right
opportunity to do so. If a high achiever gets fed up with another s behavior it may serve as a
catalyst for his/her management of the group.
If an abrasive worker is also a brilliant one, then we must give him/her a chance to find success
within the organization. If one allows his/her personality to get in the way of success,

Essay Native American Relations with The United States
Native American Relations with The United States
What were the significant treaties, policies, and events that defined US Government and Native
American Relations? How did the Native American respond to these treaties, polices, and events
historically? How did these treaties, policies, and events affect the subsistence, religion, political,
and social structures of the Native American people? I will answer these questions through the
examination of two centuries of US history in six time periods that define clear changes in the
relationship between the Native American and the US Government.

The Constitution further enumerates these powers denied to the states in Article I section x. The
state of Georgia challenged the federal government s power over states rights, a precursor to the
Civil War, when it challenged the trust relationship and the autonomy of the Cherokee. Supreme
Court Justice John Marshall in three decisions (Marshall Trilogy) upheld the United States federal
power, defined the responsibility of the doctrine of federal trust, and clarified the sovereignty of
Indian nations: Johnson v McIntosh 1823, Cherokee v Georgia 1831, Worcester v Georgia 1832.
The new government wanted to keep peace with the Indians and used trade as its device. It was
hoped that the interaction between the white settlers and Indians would create a dependence of the
Indian for white goods and soothe the tensions of the white settlers through familiarity via social
interaction. President George Washington proposed government regulated and operated trading

What Are The Causes And Effects Of Legalizing Marijuana

Cause and Effects of Legalizing Marijuana Legalizing marijuana, or known as weed, can produce
an abundant number of pros and cons. Associating the legalization of marijuana to tobacco may
generate verbal and physical arguments between many individuals. Observations from a source the
NYLN Youth Leader Blog reports, the legalization of marijuana can regulate crimes, protect law
enforcement, provide medical benefits, and boost income ( 19 Primary Pros and Cons of
Legalizing Weed n.p.). Although weed may benefit its seller, it can cause treacherous dangers for

Many people seem to push for the legalization while others not so much. Marijuana is believed to
help ease painful illnesses as well as provide safety for law enforcement along with their attention
to deal with more serious crimes. With that being sad there are endangerments that come with using
marijuana such as the potential for a dealer to sell you synthetic weed with harmful chemicals.
Another con is the alteration in one s awareness when the drug is present in the body such as, the
risk of getting behind the car and causing a fatal accident meaning death for yourself or another
individual. Anyone can argue the pros and cons on marijuana, but the ratification may turn out to
only harm more people than what it is sought out to be. Along with the legalization of weed, many
people are on the big topic of tobacco use compared to marijuana. Tobacco is believed to have
worse outcomes on your body than weed, and allow you to have addiction issues as well as health
issues. The use of tobacco in avid smokers can cause damage to your heart, lungs, blood vessels,
etc. Although tobacco is said to be worse, some of the outcomes have similarities in both
substances and are being investigated in hope for more answers in the

Go Ask Alice Addiction
Go Ask Alice is a young adult book written by an anonymous author, and published in 1971. The
novel tells the story of a fourteen year old girl in 1968 who writes about her experiences in a
diary. The unnamed protagonist falls into a life filled with drug addiction, and is forced to deal
with the consequences of it. She creates a life for herself that includes being raped, being
bullied and eventually drugged, and having to become a prostitute to provide for her drug
addiction. In both the epilogue and back cover of the book, it is revealed that the protagonist
was either not able to overcome her addiction, or was drugged by her peers, and died of an
overdose. Go Ask Alice, while upsetting in nature, is a book that shows the true dangers of drug
addiction. What started off as a little bit of LSD, became a life of taking any drugs the protagonist

Go Ask Alice is a reminder that drugs aren t always what they seem to be in today s society, they
can lead you onto a dark path that could ruin your life, and potentially end it. Because of this, the
anonymous author s apparent true story of her addiction is a great read. The story may be a bit
older, but it is still relevant to teenage life today. Go Ask Alice takes the reader into something
personal, a story of apparent real life drug addiction, something that is not often explored even
now. This creates an important story with an even more important message for teenagers, both
in 1971 and 2018. Go Ask Alice was adapted into a television movie in 1973. While some of the
content from the book had to be edited for a more family friendly film, the movie does manage
to keep some of the key points of the original Go Ask Alice, and maintain the character s
personalities. Expectedly, the basic plot of the book is the same in the film, a young girl faces
drug addiction. A scene almost identical to the book where the protagonist takes drugs for the first
time, up until they later remove a scene due to

The Symbolism of Death in Alistair McLeod’s The Lost Salt...
In Alistair McLeod s collection of short stories the Lost Salt Gift of Blood; death seems to be a
constant companion. Death is important and perhaps even symbolic in this collection of short
stories. It is important because it has the power to affect people and relationships, invokes freedom
and even predetermines ones future, through the deathof animal s people and the impending death
of others. The first story In the Fall consists of 2 deaths, the death of a horse and a death of

Pros And Cons Of 1950s Decade
I agree with the author on even though 1950s get more votes compared to other decades,
however, it still have a lot of mixed pros and cons. The 1950s sound like a great decade for many
family to have a better life because of better economy. However, there still a lot of sexism and
racism which cause the decade sound like a nightmare for an Asian girl like me. The 1950s
decade is not a good decade to live in even though it have a lot things that help family to have a
better life. For example, the author give the reader some statistics : In Philadelphia, for example,

This shows that, the only people that have a better life and find this decade is a good decade to

these problems many others have a difficult time to find a job, a place to live, and even have to
deal with others people bias and bad treatments. An example, The Federal Housing Authority...,
refused to insure homes in all black or in racially mixed neighborhoods (40). This means that,
there were a lot of government benefits got created only to help out the White people.
Compared to today, people with different races can receive many more benefits than when they

living within the city. Later, the Spanish brought more soldiers and invaded the rest of the Aztec
empire (World Book Online).
Once the Spaniards were in control of the colonies the Spanish king made the Amerindians pay
tribute, convert to Catholicism, and work for the Spaniards when help was needed. Although Spain
imposed many laws onto the citizens it allowed the natives to continue to speak their own
languages to help prevent revolt. The Europeans brought many diseases along with them such as
small pox. As a result, about 24,000,000 indigenous people died (World Book Online).
In the wake of the loss of the indigenous peoples two new races of people came to power; the
creoles and the mestizos. They were the product of indigenous peoples bred with Europeans. Later
on, the Spanish introduced about 200,000 African slaves to help perform work in the area that is

family oriented. The managers of such organisations are unable to understand the importance of
strategic human sources recruitment process (Abraham et al. 2015) and tend to neglect the hidden
message behind it.
To fully understand human resources recruitment, the hidden messages underlay it must be
discussed.
Hidden messages of HR recruitment to organisations
A good recruitment plan includes programs for candidates to train, develop and stay in the
organisation. According to statistics in the United States where more than 51% of employees are
considering getting a new job (Gallup 2015), human resources turnover is an enormous cost to the
organisation, as the training and recruiting cost will pile up for new entrants to the vacant jobs.
Also, the high performance employee who left the organisation is likely to be hired by the

The Pros And Cons Of Estate Planning
It is shocking to know that a majority of working American adults do not make estate planning a
priority. While most agree that estate planning is important, the misconception is that it is too
complicated or expensive. The majority do not know that they are indirectly involved in estate
planning by enrolling in a pension plan at work and choosing their beneficiary. This paper will
examine a simple form of estate planning through different employer benefits and qualified plans;
analyze why employer benefits should be considered in estate planning; determine the extent to
which an employee factors in estate planning when choosing life or death benefits from his or her
job.

To help finance the Spanish American War, the War Revenue Act of 1898 was passed, and
subsequently abolished in 1902. The 1898 death tax was a form of estate tax, levied upon the
value of all personal property included in a decedent s gross estate (Luckey, 2003). A possession
passing to a surviving spouse was excluded from the tax, and a $10,000 specific exemption
excluded small estates. The tax rates were graduated from 0.74 percent to 15 percent, taking into
consideration both the size of the estate and the degree of affiliation of the decedent and the
beneficiaries (Luckey, 2003). Due to the cost of World War I, the Revenue Act of 1916 restored
an estate tax that has since influenced the current estate tax code (Luckey, 2003). In 1797 it was
10 cents on inventories of the effects of a deceased individual and 50 cents on the probate of wills
and letters of administration. In 1862 the tax package included an inheritance tax in addition to the
stamp tax of the probate of wills and letter of administration. Federal death taxes in the United
States between 1797 and 1915 appear to have served as additional revenue sources adopted only

The Leadership and experience of Samuel Chapman Armstrong, during the Civil War mainly caused
his legacy displayed by one of his most influential students, Booker T. Washington. Booker T.
Washington carried this legacy by continuing the philosophy of Samuel Chapman Armstrong

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children s Behavior
The effect of violent video games on children s behavior has been the major concern of numerous
researchers over the last several decades. Indeed, a great number of researches conducted by
psychologists show that regular exposure to violent video games has both long term and short
term negative effects on a player s behavior. Aggressiveness and lack of empathy are considered to
be two main outcomes of constant playing games with violent content. However, it should be noted
that the content is not the only criteria that should be taken into account when measuring games
effects on behavior. Indeed, much attention should be paid to the difficulty of games and time
spent on playing. Thus, a brief overview of studies concerning the violent video games effect and
those disproving this idea along with the analysis of other factors affecting children s behavior
such as moral standards and family environment will show that violent video games are not
principal factors that affect children s behavior and cause child violence.
When analyzing different studies proving the idea that all violent video games lead to
aggressiveness and violence, it is important to mention that all 3 main types of studies have both
advantages and disadvantages. Anderson and Swing distinguished the following types of studies:
(a) experimental; (b) cross sectional correlational; and (c) longitudinal ones (Paludi 47). Thus,
experimental studies are focused on manipulating exposure to violence via media and

For Six Months During 1835 And 1836, The People Of Texas,
For six months during 1835 and 1836, the people of Texas, both Tejanos and colonist, fought for
their independence from Mexico and from Santa Anna, who had been establishing new, stricter laws
for those in Texas. In the most iconic battle of this revolution, the men at the Alamo went beyond
what was expected of the typical Texassoldier in the revolution and their deaths created a thirst for
revenge that lasted through the rest of the war. It was this thirst for revenge that played a
significant role in the success at the Battle of San Jacinto. As was true with the rest of the Texas
revolutionaries, there was variety in the group of men who fought at the Alamo. They were freemen
and slaves, Tejanos and Texans, those who were willing to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While Fannin s attitude is not necessarily representative of the rest of the Texas Army, there was
certainly a difference between the Texas Army and the men at the Alamo. Although all of the
soldiers fighting in the revolution were putting their lives at risk, the men at the Alamo knowingly
sacrificed their lives because of their commitment to their cause. Prior to the battle of the Alamo,
San Antonio was taken by the Texas army with significant help from the local Tejanos
population. Approximately 160 Tejanos fought, many from the city to which they were laying
siege. While having the Tejanos on the same side as the Texans was incredibly beneficial, the
relationship began to fall apart quickly, due in part to the Texas soldiers need for supplies and
their lack of funds. The Texans started to simply take what they needed, be it crops or livestock.
Although farmers and ranchers received assurances that they would be reimbursed in the years
following the war, it was small comfort. Another problem was the difference in what the two
groups were trying to accomplish. While the Texans were seeking complete freedom from Mexico,
the majority of Tejanos wanted to become a Federalism within Mexico. This difference in end goals

Does Memory Decline With Age
Does Memory Decline with Age Once you reach a certain point in your life how do you just
forgot? Is there a certain point in your life where your memory is affected? The common
question going around is does your memory decline with age. One reason this is important
because it will affect all of us. We will all get old and this can greatly affect our health. The
research can show how our older age will affect our memory. Human memory loss is an effect that
we all will have to deal with. Numerous studies show age related decline in episodic memory.
(Naveh Benjamin and Kilb, 2014) The initial research done has shown that indeed your memory
will decrease. There are many reasoning for why this happens but one of the main points refers to

Selective memory retrieval is research to try and recall events that occurred in your past life. In
their studies, they used sixty four participants between the age of (20 35) for the younger

each group certain images to remember. Both groups showed a very poor retrieval to the images
portrayed. For the most part, this initial test between the young and older ages was unsuccessful.
Since, this experiment didn t go as planned they came up with a new process. That process being

The New Deal And Civil Rights
Over the years State powers has changed. The States have gained less power relative to the Federal
government. Originally the States were the sole governing power through the Articles of the
Confederation due to the fear of the development of a monarchy that the U.S. had fought so hard to
rid themselves of. Thus gave creation a new form of government through the constitution which
fundamentally began the shift of power from state to federal. Next, though significant historical
events such as the New Deal and Civil Rights we will see the Federal government infringement on
State power. Lastly, we will see how this constant struggle has continued to present day. First, let s
discuss how the constitution transferred State power to Federal power. The first form of U.S.
Government was through the Articles of Confederation. The Articles joined the States into a
collective group but allowed the states to retain their freedom and power (Lenz and Holman, 2013,
p. 31). Unfortunately, soon after the articles establishment the republic realized the need for a
stronger federal government. Thus the constitution was signed and ratified establishing a stronger
federal government to remedy the major defects of the Articles; taxing, executive office, interstate
and foreign commerce, amendment, and domestic order (Lenz and Holman, 2013, p. 32).
Therefore, the first drastic power shift occurred between State Power and Federal Power. According
to Lenz and Holman (2013), the constitution provided

Paris Peace Conference Vs Treaty Of Versailles
During the Paris Peace Conference, there were many different approaches how to create an
effective solution after the conflicts of the war. Georges Clemenceau of France, who had also
served during the French defeat in the Franco Prussian War, wanted revenge on Germany by
humiliating the country. The actions of the British representative, David Lloyd George, were
driven purely by self interest, and the Italian representative, Vittorio Orlando, was greedy in his
pursuit to acquire colonies. However, the representative from the United States, President Wilson,
sought to create a plan that would create a fair peace. Wilson felt that it was essential to create a
proposal that would establish a liberal structure of peace to prevent major European powers from
engaging in further conflict over issues such as colonies. The plan that President Wilson designed,

losing one tenth of its land, Germany having to downsize their army and disband their navy and
airforce altogether, Germany paying reparations that would cripple its economy, and Germany
having to admit that they were the cause of World War I. These points would allow for the rise of
fascist powers in Italy and Germany, eventually leading to the outbreak of World War II. However,
one success of Wilson s plan was Point 14, which led to the creation of the League of Nations, a
group of nations that would meet to prevent conflict and preserve peace. Overall, the Fourteen

Religion Acts As A Central Point For Many People
Religion acts as a central point for many people, in which they can relate to each other in

strict about their traditions, behaviors, actions, and in some extreme cases they do not accept any

chapters 11 through 21, the plot begins to escalate when Grant begins visiting Jefferson alone in
his cell. When Grant visits Jefferson for the first time without Tante Lou and Miss Emma,
Jefferson releases his aggression towards Grant. He begins to display animalistic behaviors to
resemble his negative connotative term, hog . For example, when Grant brings the bag of food,...

He reacts in an accusatory fashion, consistently asking Jefferson if he s trying to make him
susceptible to guilt. In chapter 11, Ernest J. Gaines references Jackie Robinson and Joe Louis
suggesting that in the 1940 s there were a significantly low number of black public figures and
heroes that existed around that time; therefore, Jackie Robinson and Joe Louis assumed the burden
of personifying black individuals in public. Generally, Ernest J. Gaines portrays two ordinary
black men living in the controversial, troubled south as heroic figures. The novel begins to direct
towards the love affair of Vivian and Grant, which happens to seem like a minor Fifty Shades of
Gray temporarily throughout the novel. Ernest J. Gaines portrays their relationship as genuine and
real. Compared to all promiscuous, relationships I ve read throughout the school year, their love
seems more convincing. Even though the entire school is suspicious of their relationship, they
proudly accept it. Throughout the chapters, Grant alternates between wanting to help Jefferson, and
insisting he cannot

Oral Contract And Uniform Commercial Law
Task1.2 Oral contract An agreement between parties that is either partly in writing and partly
dependent on spoken words or that is entirely dependent on spoken words. An oral contract is
enforceable unless its subject matter comes within the statute of frauds, an English Law adopted in
the United States, that requires certain contracts to be in writing. For example, a contract to sell
real property, to be enforceable, must be in writing to comply with the statute. An oral contract to
sell Personal Property for an amount less than that set in the statute does not fall within its limits
and, therefore, is enforceable without being reduced to a writing. The Uniform Commercial Code
governs the enforceability of oral contracts in sales transactions

Persuasive Essay On Black Hawk Down
Black Hawk Down Persuasive Essay No one has ever enjoyed learning when they were being
forced to do so; luckily they don t need to be forced any longer. How things are presented to
someone directly affects their interpretation, this fact influenced Mark Bowden to set all norms
aside as he wrote his book Black Hawk Down and used uncommon techniques to allow students to
make connections on their own about the event of the Battle of Mogadishu. The Battle of
Mogadishu took place in 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia, quickly becoming a terrible situation for
many Delta Forces and Rangers as they seemingly fought an entire city, unprepared. Themes within
the book Black Hawk Down include: moral decisions, brotherhood, and nationalism, but these...

As a result of the disastrous effects of the mission much room was made for learning and
improvement, as well as humility to be gained. American leaders and generals can learn from
the battle Bowden describes in Black Hawk Down. First, [to keeping all forces informed], and
second, the over confidence of the Americans ultimately led to more casualties (Anderson). It is
especially important for students to see real world examples of problems and what they can
cause, which this book lays out excellently. Black Hawk Down envelops social issues as well as
educational lessons that can be learned about from inferences. Within Black Hawk Down the
significance of events can challenge students social views and cause a sense a nationalism in
readers. One way that this story can do this is by creating a connection between readers and
troops. This book, brings to life the heroic efforts of American soldiers in Mogadishu s maze of
streets and alleys to survive the attacks of Somalis (Matray). The audience finds themselves
learning of the struggles of soldiers as well as gaining respect for them through this process. In a
similar fashion, Bowden writes this book, giving the happenings of a significant militaristic event,
indirectly teaching history during the process. One author previously stated that, [the Battle of
Mogadishu] ... was the most serious firefight involving American troops since the Vietnam War.
Eighteen American soldiers were killed, and more than 70

Henry Viii s Second Pregnancy
February of 1518 brought with it the announcement of a royal pregnancy. Catherine of Aragon,
Henry VIII s first wife, announced her sixth pregnancy[]. Not unlike her previous five pregnancies,
this one was greeted with as much, if not more caution than excitement. Henry VIII wanted nothing
more than to produce a son to carry on his name and to continue the Tudor dynasty, and until this
point, he and Catherine had not been granted that luxury. After two stillborns, two infant deaths,
and the birth of one daughter, Mary, the hope that Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragonwould
produce a son was all but diminished. That hope was not soon restored, as Catherine delivered a
girl on the Tenth of November in 1518, and the infant died within hours of her birth.
Henry VIII s marriage to Catherine of Aragon had often been described as unusually good by the
people they interacted with in daily life[]. They slept together often, they spent a lot of time
together outside of their regular royal duties, and they seemed to get along together quite well.
However, not unlike most kings in that time, Henry VIII did carry on affairs with other women.
His most notable affair while married to Catherine was with Elizabeth Blount, who was a lady in
waiting to the Queen. While most of Henry s affairs were short lived, his relationship with
Elizabeth Blount lasted close to eight years []. In June of 1519, Blount gave birth to healthy boy,
and the boy was named Henry.
Although Henry VIII had

Morgan Hobbs
Mr. Meyer
Algebra II
12 December 2016
The Importance of Slope Slope is one of the most important equations used in day to day life.
Every structure that you own and live in uses slope. The only reason why everything is stable, is
because of construction workers and anyone that builds things uses slope formula. The formula
for slope is y2 y1 over x2 x1. Slope is very important in the construction field because it often states
the best way to complete a project. The slope of a road affects water runoff, so engineers and
construction workers must plan accordingly. Slope is also important to people who use wheelchairs
and other types of devices to help others move around. Skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers
must pay attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Skiers use slope every time they go skiing, as well as snowboarders, and snowmobilers. When
you are snowmobiling, you need to assess your surroundings, and decide whether or not it is
safe to go up a steep slope. If you attempt to go up an extremely steep slope without a snowmobile
with high horsepower, you will most likely roll down the slope and get seriously injured. If you
are going down a slope, you need to be aware of the fact that you could possibly start an
avalanche. If an avalanche occurs there is one maneuver to increase your chance of survival.
This maneuver is called a slope cut. When performing a slope cut, you want to have your speed
built up and go in a direction where it is safe, so that if the slope that you are on fractures, your
momentum will carry you off the moving slab and onto a safe

High Frequency Trading Essay
High Frequency Trading (HFT) consists of the predictive buying and selling of contracts using
algorithmic trading software and ultra low latency trading infrastructure where fractional
increments of money can be earned in sometimes microseconds (millionth of a second). The trading
technique as such as been used in various forms as markets evolved and equity trading matured.
With the ascendency of new algorithmic trading firms with their cutting edge, technology driven
trading strategies with the goal of earning profits in billions of dollars, HFT has become the wonder
strategy for low investment, high profit trading opportunities. Today, nearly seventy three percent

Typically, a high frequency trading firm will run several trading strategies with very low
margins, on custom built software through intermediaries. Each firm thrives on minimum
latency of flash orders of the software to move in and out of markets. In fact, in Melbourne, a
large FX fund has been using High Frequency Trading in FX, successfully for well over a
decade. Insight into High Frequency Trading in FX A recent by BIS reflects the role of HFT in
FX marketplaces. The report says that, there is an increasing use of HFT in FX market in the
past few years as there is greater infrastructure available for electronic trading. It was found that,
in the FX market, HFT was active in most liquid currency markets and prevalent among
dominant currencies. It relied on operating high volume but very small orders, maintained low
margins along with low latency. This meant that all orders were placed and withdrawn in a
matter of a few milliseconds. Specific algorithms, which analyzed the market, were used to
perform these strategies. Another noticeable trend was that most traders adopted short risk
holding periods of less than five seconds for greater efficiency. The report predicts that HFT will
spread to currencies, which are traded in lesser volumes as well and will likely be used in
currency markets of emerging economies. HFT is found to have a profound impact in the FX market

Foreshadowing In The Chrysanthemums
In the valley there were hills brighter than the cars passing by on the highway. Red, green,
orange, and yellow. On this side of the highway there was a small building with warm colors that
people called A taste of Barcelona . When I first entered the building, I noticed that there was a
Latin band playing salsa. To my right I noticed that a man asked a woman to dance. It was an
interesting site. Men and woman dancing with each other on the wooden dance floor. It is so
amazing how specific details in Short Fictionor any story can be. Take John Steinbecks The
Chrysanthemums for example. It starts out with a detailed setting to the reader that reveals
certain elements that the reader could otherwise not see. This can also be seen in Ernest
Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants . The setting for both of these stories is revealed to the
reader right at the start of the story. This begs questions such as Why do these authors reveal the
setting so early? What does this entail? Revealing the setting of the story can contain a great deal
of information before any of the hard facts are even mentioned. For example, a vivid description of
the setting can allow the reader to see between the lines of the plane text and notice things that they
could possibly miss through their first time reading. Setting can also help give insight to the
audience by foreshadowing, giving hints to the major plot and even showing distinct elements that
could not be found elsewhere. While some short

Scopes Monkey Trial Research Paper
The aftermath of the Great war and the Great Depression brought on a dramatic social change in
America in the 1920s. The social change was a revolution that brought on two fundamentally
different beings; modernists and fundamentalists. While fundamentalists valued the bible, and lived
by it in its entirety, modernists were more self conscious and favored creativity and common sense
rather than the bible. The divide had to come head when the controversial Scopes Monkey Trial
began and new theories were explored which were then applied in modernist art, literature, and the
way of thinking. The revolution in manners in morals is the direct outcome of new innovations
studied in the twentieth century. The Scopes Monkey Trial is a direct reflection... Show more

Albert Einstein, famed psychist, offered scientific research that startled fundamentalists and excited
modernists. The huge influence the reject God was largely responsible of famed psychist, Albert
Einstein. His contributions in science left individuals unsure about the past and curious about the
future. Einstein theorized that space, time, matter, and energy were not distinct (Shi and Tindall
799). His research left many to embrace the idea that there were no absolute standards or fixed
points of reference in the world (Shi and Tindall 799) . What was once said that God created all
was questioned with Einstein s research. Another man s research in psychoanalysis questioned the
morals and the way that people carried out their lives in the 1920s. Sigmund Freud, a psychoanalyst
from Europe, heavily influenced Americans because of his teachings about sex and behavior. Freud
believed that the mind was essentially and mysteriously conflicted by often unconscious efforts to
control or repress powerful irrational impulses or sexual desires (Shi and Tindall 799). His work
gave life a deeper meaning and influenced sexual liberation. Writers expressed their art through
dreams and imaginations. The new revelations bought on by Einstein and Freud changed the way
of life for both modernists and fundamentalists. Modernists applied the news ideas by applying
them into their life by expressing themselves through art, rejecting the bible, and imagine about the
unknown. Fundamentalists stuck to traditional values and believed in God. The new revelations

Latin America Metaphors
Solitude is more than a state of being alone; it is recognizing the fact that the individuals whom one
introduces to their environment will never learn to accept their differences. It is being aware that
positive things will never be satisfiable enough to gratify those around you. Gabriel Garcia
Marquez, a Colombian author, illustrated the ideal picture of solitude in Latin Americathough his
words he expressed in his Nobel Prize speech. Gabriel Marquez lived his childhood in a small
isolated town in Columbia alongside his grandparents. Marquez was rudely denied a VISA to the
United Statesdue to his thoughts about the U.S military. However, Marquez was still able to
publish and sell millions of copies of his novel 100 Years of Solitude which later became the
second most read book in Latin America, following the Bible. In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Nobel
Prize speech, The Solitude of Latin America, he uses the term solitude as a metaphor for Latin
America through negative stereotypes from other countries and Latin America s geographic
isolation.
Initially, Latin America endures solitude as a result from the negative stereotypes they face from
other countries based on inferred connotations from past actions. The chief faction that interrogates
Latin America for their differences are the Europeans leaders who Have thought so, with the
childishness of old timers who have forgotten the fruitful excess of their youth (Marquez 3). Latin
America has been ostracized on

Business Continuity Research Methods
Business Continuity Research Research methods should contain research questions and hypothesis,
present a research design, discuss participants, instruments used, the procedure, a data analysis plan,

such as whether it was quantitative, qualitative, or mixed. The quantitative method assesses the
participant responses on a measure. The qualitative method is a semi structured interview that gets
transcribed. The mixed method is a mix of the quantitative and the qualitative methods. Discussion
of the participants should discuss the sample of the population, how they were selected, why they
were selected, and the method used to select them. The instruments used in the study should be
discussed, what types of instruments, the scales and subscales, how the scales are computed, and
the reliability and validity of those scales. There should also be reference to the researchers that
designed the scales that were used in the study. The procedure, explaining how the instruments
should be used, should be discussed in detail where the reader understands every step of the
process. The data analysis plan should discuss how the data was analyzed, including statistical tests,
statistical assumptions of those tests, and the justification for the statistical tests. The sample size

In our contemporary society, pornography verses propriety has been a topic of debate for
decades. Fortunately, child pornography is consistently labeled as obscene and possession of this
type of pornography is criminal. The Communications Decency Act (CDA) was signed into law in
1996 by then President Bill Clinton (Schmalleger, 2008, p. 235). A portion of this law criminalized
the knowledge that obscene or indecent messages were being transmitted to recipients under 18
(Schmalleger, 2008, p. 235). However, the ACLU had to get involved challenging the law stating
that one person s perception of indecent may not be that of another s; in other words, this would

Fine art exemplifies the beauty of God s creation, whereas porn focuses strictly on lust and

all efforts should focus on achieving and maintaining superficial beauty. God is the Supreme
Psychologist and His words provide the wisdom needed to avert and counteract the influence of
the media/pornography. Counseling needs Christian DNA if it is to call people out of the death
spiral of self preoccupation (Powlison, 2012, p. 19). For centuries, Spiritual and Religious
leaders have conceded that our vessel [body] can be codified by the actions of language, words,
and thought forms; Scientific evidence now supports this and has proven that our DNA can be
reprogrammed by words and frequencies (Fosar Bludorf, 2001, p. 50). Sexualization can be
averted and counteracted by receiving the right messages through the power of sound and what
better sound than that of the Lord (John 1:1, 10:27). God has given us His DNA, transferring His

  • 7. The Effect Of Chemical Reactions On The Rate Of Reaction A chemical reaction is the interaction of two or more chemicals that produces a new chemical compound, most reactions require an increase in temperature, pressure, surface area, concentration or the inclusion of a catalysts to speed up the rate of reaction. Chemical reactions can be found in everyday life, without many of us knowing. Either it be a soluble tablet in water, or photosynthesis in a plant. The prerequisites for a reaction are known as the Collision Theory . As stated by M. Ferguson (2016), For a reaction to occur, particles must collide, with sufficient energy(also known as activation energy) in the correct orientation to break the existing bonds between the particles . There are many factors that influence the rate of reaction, these include: an increase in, temperature, concentration, surface area (SA), pressure and a catalyst. When a gas, liquid or solid solution is heated, the molecules of that particular chemical gain kinetic energy, and thus move faster, allowing for more frequent and successful collisions. This allows for the product to be formed much faster than if the molecules had less kinetic energy. If the concentration of a solution has increased, there will be more molecules in the same volume, which allows for the molecules to collide more frequently. This process speeds up the rate of reaction more so, than if there were fewer molecules in the same volume. An increase in surface area of a solid substance allows for an increase in rate of ... Gandhi s father was the chief minister of Porbandar and his mother was engulfed in religious devotion. As his mother was involved so deeply in religion Gandhi s upbringing was enshrined with the Jain pacifist teachings of mutual tolerance, non injury to living beings and vegetarianism. On one occasion Gandhi was catching a train and then as a result of his race he was thrown out of first class, the racial bias acted as a catalyst for his later activism. They have played archetypes such as the mother or the lover, which have traits less desirable than the roles men would take. These archetypes tend to limit their personalities and they become characters that are solely there for inconveniencing the hero and creating obstacles. Throughout history many people have made efforts to change these archetypes and make them more desirable. • 12. Reflection Paper On Narcissism Reading this week s articles became all too personal for me as I began to reflect on the book that I am writing in which the protagonist is a narcissist. When telling people about my book most people cannot get past the fact that the protagonist is my mother, but her narcissistic personality is what created the storyline for my entire text. She has many of the classic attributes of a narcissist, my favorite (from a writer s perspective) is her immense lack of empathy. It is extremely incredible that what little empathy she can find she can control based on who she is with and what the specific circumstances are. While the book may shed light on some of the negative things she has done in her past or the negative behaviors associated with her narcissismI have been sure to include an entire chapter detailing my belief that narcissism should be considered an objective personality type. Narcissism has an enormous amount of negative connotation surrounding it which is ironic to be because there are positive attributes some of which many of us share. The article mentioned, Most of us have elements of all three, when referring to the three main personality types of erotics, obsessives, and narcissists (Maccoby). I agree with Maccoby which is why I think it is important that we continue to find a place in the workplace for those who are narcissistic and abrasive because even though we may not agree with their style we must welcome diversity in order to avoid groupthink. I think that ensuring a well balanced mix of personalities in a workplace can boost production and allow leaders to rise from the shadows of abrasive and narcissistic leaders who may have overstayed their welcome. Another benefit to maintaining the abrasive personality in the workplace is to encourage the high achiever in the room who may have the leadership skills to take over a conversation and just need the right opportunity to do so. If a high achiever gets fed up with another s behavior it may serve as a catalyst for his/her management of the group. If an abrasive worker is also a brilliant one, then we must give him/her a chance to find success within the organization. If one allows his/her personality to get in the way of success, ... To help finance the Spanish American War, the War Revenue Act of 1898 was passed, and subsequently abolished in 1902. The 1898 death tax was a form of estate tax, levied upon the value of all personal property included in a decedent s gross estate (Luckey, 2003). A possession passing to a surviving spouse was excluded from the tax, and a $10,000 specific exemption excluded small estates. The tax rates were graduated from 0.74 percent to 15 percent, taking into consideration both the size of the estate and the degree of affiliation of the decedent and the beneficiaries (Luckey, 2003). • 27. The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children s Behavior The effect of violent video games on children s behavior has been the major concern of numerous researchers over the last several decades. Indeed, a great number of researches conducted by psychologists show that regular exposure to violent video games has both long term and short term negative effects on a player s behavior. Aggressiveness and lack of empathy are considered to be two main outcomes of constant playing games with violent content. However, it should be noted that the content is not the only criteria that should be taken into account when measuring games effects on behavior. Indeed, much attention should be paid to the difficulty of games and time spent on playing. Thus, a brief overview of studies concerning the violent video games effect and those disproving this idea along with the analysis of other factors affecting children s behavior such as moral standards and family environment will show that violent video games are not principal factors that affect children s behavior and cause child violence. When analyzing different studies proving the idea that all violent video games lead to aggressiveness and violence, it is important to mention that all 3 main types of studies have both advantages and disadvantages. Prior to the battle of the Alamo, San Antonio was taken by the Texas army with significant help from the local Tejanos population. Approximately 160 Tejanos fought, many from the city to which they were laying siege. While having the Tejanos on the same side as the Texans was incredibly beneficial, the relationship began to fall apart quickly, due in part to the Texas soldiers need for supplies and their lack of funds. The Texans started to simply take what they needed, be it crops or livestock. Although farmers and ranchers received assurances that they would be reimbursed in the years following the war, it was small comfort. • 45. Henry Viii s Second Pregnancy February of 1518 brought with it the announcement of a royal pregnancy. Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII s first wife, announced her sixth pregnancy[]. Not unlike her previous five pregnancies, this one was greeted with as much, if not more caution than excitement. Henry VIII wanted nothing more than to produce a son to carry on his name and to continue the Tudor dynasty, and until this point, he and Catherine had not been granted that luxury. After two stillborns, two infant deaths, and the birth of one daughter, Mary, the hope that Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragonwould produce a son was all but diminished. That hope was not soon restored, as Catherine delivered a girl on the Tenth of November in 1518, and the infant died within hours of her birth. Henry VIII s marriage to Catherine of Aragon had often been described as unusually good by the people they interacted with in daily life[]. They slept together often, they spent a lot of time together outside of their regular royal duties, and they seemed to get along together quite well. However, not unlike most kings in that time, Henry VIII did carry on affairs with other women. His most notable affair while married to Catherine was with Elizabeth Blount, who was a lady in waiting to the Queen. While most of Henry s affairs were short lived, his relationship with Elizabeth Blount lasted close to eight years []. In June of 1519, Blount gave birth to healthy boy, and the boy was named Henry.
