Organization often looks the other way when making a decision regarding the process of their
product.
A lot of money would be used for solving the social problems. Most of the time, there is limited
money for that. Technical also been used to solving problems. So, in order to avoid the limited of
resources, most of the organizations will possess the resources (such as money and expertise)
needed to tackle social problems.
Analysis:
My analysis is that is in order to solve these social problems, the environment will need to be
cleaner. Our organization would benefit by contributing to assist in correcting these issues. The
company can use ethical decision making to secure the organization environmental responsibility.
Decisions that would allow for government agencies to get involved with the organization. For
instance if a company is proactive and follows the United States Environmental Protection
Agency‎ guidelines for emissions on dangerous pollutants and even goes an extra step to get
involved in the community and address those concerns that the public might have; they would be
less likely to have the EPA investigate them for environmental concerns.(Corporate social
responsibility, 2009).
This would produce a good image of the company to their stakeholders or other companies, the
confidence of consumer s increases, and favor to buy the goods from the company. The profit of
the company will increase eventually. Therefore, acts of assisting in

Irish Ireland Research Paper
Despite the Catholic Irish people making up over 80 percent of the population, they were
subjugated to the lower classes to live in squalor. Despite the inherent divide between the
Protestant British and Catholic Irish, Ireland was relatively peaceful for the next century, other
than a rebellion led by Theobald Wolfe Tone and the United Irishmen in 1798. 30,000 people were
killed in this rebellion, which laid the groundwork for the separatist republicanism to come and
caused the Act of Union of 1800 to be passed, closing the Irish Parliament in Dublin and giving
Protestant London full control over Catholic Ireland.
The population quadrupled during the peaceful century from 1740 1840, the economy flourished,
Catholics fought for, and gained, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An Irish nationalist paramilitary organization called the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB)
was established in 1858 and worked for the armed expulsion of the British, where the Home
Rule Party worked for the political expulsion. In 1912, the British passed a Home Rule Bill,
which gave the Irish political autonomy, but the bill was never enacted due to the breakout of
World War I in 1914. In 1913, two organizations, the nationalist Irish Volunteers (IV) and unionist
(pro British) Ulster Volunteers (UV) were founded in Dublin and Belfast, respectively, and the
IV absorbed the IRB. The two groups were set for a full on conflict before the outbreak of the
war, but both sides believed the national question could be answered after WWI and sent men to
the trenches. A small, revolutionary minority of the IV stayed behind, as they did not want to
fight for the British, these men constituted the IRB, and saw WWI as their time to strike the
weakened British. They struck on Easter Sunday in 1916, but were defeated after six days. This
became known as the Easter Rising. After the IRB was defeated, 16 of the leaders were taken to
Kilmainham Gaol and executed. Executing the leaders of the Rising was England s big mistake as
it made them martyrs and gave the Irish the momentum they needed to fight a war of Independence,
which began in 1919, and that s where the movie, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, takes

Evaluation Of Selected Patient And Theories Essay
Course Project Introduction: Selected Patient and Theories In the history of nursing many
theories have been developed and applied to nursing practice. After selecting a patient, I have
assessed her demographics, health status, and health needs. Also, I have selected two theories to
address these needs and have summarized their main concepts. Finally, I have discussed my
patient and theories choices. M.R. is a white fifty two years old Spanish female who lives in
Spain. She is five feet and four inches tall and weighs 121 pounds. She thinks of herself as a
member of Western and Spanish cultures. M.R. is a married Catholic, has two adult children,
owns a flat in a tranquil area, and works as a clerk at a public high school. In Spain health
services are paid for using taxes and M.R. lives near several medical facilities. Although M.R. has a
cardiomyopathy, she is otherwise healthy. She performs self care, activities of daily living,
employment tasks, and light exercise independently. In Spanish culture family members usually
live together or nearby and gather on Sundays. However, M.R. s husband is away on Sundays and
her daughter lives in other country. These facts constitute her cultural needs. Also, M.R. takes care
of the household finances and housework and has no time to socialize. This situation constitutes her
main psychosocial need because it has an impact on her support system. Finally, her spiritual needs
include the uncertainty of her condition s process,

The Relationship Between Corporate Governance And Performance
LITERATURE ABSTRACTS
1. This article focuses on the Gompers, Ishii, and Metrick (GIM, 2003) study which found that
strong shareholder rights lead to higher stock price returns and thus value. This is a great indicator
that good governance has a direct effect on the performance of the firm. The article finds the
correlation of corporate governance and the positive impact it has on the firm, management, and
shareholders. However the article provides a subjective view, is good governance the correct metric
of evaluation. The primary finding of the article is a comprehensive and economic analysis
defending the relation between corporate governance and performance. This article examines the

Yermack, 1996). This article argues against the findings of Jensen (1993) and Lipton and Lorsch
(1992), which stated that larger boards have a negative effect on firm value; in fact the study
suggests that having a large diverse board enables the firm to have more experience and expertise
to contribute to firm value and boost firm performance.
3. This article notes advocates for shareholders have requested that corporations have smaller
board sizes with more outside representation. Despite the importance of corporate boards and the
call to action for them to reform, economists have not been able to conclude what drives the
composition and size of boards. This study was based on three non mutually exclusive testable
hypotheses. Overall the article, came to a conclusion that board size/composition vary across all
firms and remains unexplained. Firms that issue IPO start off with small board sizes and add .13
members every year for the first 10 years. Board of firms issuing IPO s usually are comprised of
56% outside members and 44 inside members. This study identified the following characteristics
within them: larger firms have seasoned and diverse independent boards and firms in which
managers have substantial influence have less independent boards.
4. The article supports the idea of good corporate board of governance leads to increased firm
performance. For example with increased operating performance

Flq Essay
In October 1970, Canada faced a pressing terrorist attack in Montreal, Quebec by a group known as
the Front de Liberation du Quebec, or the FLQ for short. The group committed multiple attacks
starting in 1963 that slowly escalated until the October Crisis, where they kidnapped two
government officials and proceeded to murder one of them. The Canadian government responded
harshly and rapidly. The prime minister of Canada, Pierre Trudeau, issued the War Measures Act
which along with various things allowed the police and military full reign to arrest people and hold
them with no explanation. The Canadian population was highly supportive of the government s
action believing that this extreme state repression would bring a finish to the October... Show more

Some of these demands were a reading of the manifesto on public radio, a half million dollar
ransom, and the release of several convicted or detained FLQ members . The government refused
to release the FLQ members, but did read the manifesto on public radio and select newspapers
printed the manifesto. However, this was not enough for the FLQ and they kidnapped and shortly
killed the provincial cabinet minister Pierre LaPorte. James Cross remained kidnapped until
December 1970, when the police found his holding cell.
The government responded aggressively to the kidnapping of both James Cross and Pierre
LaPorte. After LaPorte s body was found in a car by the Montreal airport, the government
requested assistance from the Canadian Armed Forces . The federal government proclaimed the
existence of a state of apprehended insurrection under the War Measures Act . Under these
emergency regulations, the FLQ was outlawed and membership became a criminal act . The
liberties of citizens were also suspended, and arrests and detentions were authorized without a
charge . During the War Measures Act, the military was patrolling the streets and police forces
were given additional freedom, while the liberties of citizens were taken away. One way that the
police force was given further freedom is they had the freedom to search and detain anyone they
wanted without stating a reason. Through this

Chuck E Cheese Research Paper
Chuck E. Cheese s, the home of many childhood parties and fun packed arcade games, had been
a place I often frequented many times as a young boy. After every quarterly ME and MP filled
report card I received in primary school, my mother brought me to this kid friendly hub as a
reward. I remembered having tons of fun playing skee ball, the Contra and TMNT arcade machines,
and the ticket splashing Jumpin Jackpot game. Even though I used to fear Chuck E. roaming
around the play areas, I absolutely enjoyed making loads of one day friendships with the kids
roaming around me, which resulted in a multitude of sketch booth pictures, and tickets cashed in
for slinkies. By the way, their pizza had me jumping for joy in every visit. Coming back as an
adult, I initially felt a vibe of delight and happiness upon returning. The ultimate difference,
however, when comparing my childhood experiences to now was through my value of gathering
tickets for prizes. Considering that most of the prizes are not meant for the teenage audience, I
usually left my tickets on a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

routines. An example I saw was that there was a 7 year old boy with a blue white striped shirt
that came down playground slide area upside down. Two other boys of similar age pulled him
out and laughed together as they headed to the basketball arcade games. This interaction
remained calm and collected from start to finish with positive moods at the end, which fits the
easy child temperament. Most of the children I examined were not crying or angry except one
case I saw. This example involved a relatively chubby kid of 9 to 10 years old who got relatively
frustrated with a Spongebob coin game after always coming short to big payouts, which will

Estrogen Therapy Essay
The idea of using large doses of estrogen to permanently seal the epiphyseal, or growth plates
began in the 1940 s and 1950 s. It was originally used to treat children with acromegaly, or
excessive growth disorder caused by the pituitary gland producing excessive growth hormone,
GH.(6) When the growth plates are closed at an early age it can reduce a height by several inches.
In 2006, the intentions of this type of treatment drastically changed. Douglas Diekema, who was the
director of education at the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics at the Seattle Children s
Hospital, and Daniel Gunther, a endocrinologist, announced in the Archives of Pediatrics and
Adolescent Medicine a new use of estrogen therapy. This time though, it was for... Show more

It was argued how the health care system is moving towards fully adopting evidence based
medicine, yet Gunther and Deikema offered no evidence that Ashely or any other child would
actually benefit from the treatment. Estrogen therapy for growth attenuation is considered a new
innovative therapy or off label treatment using an approved drug, but the AAIDD claims there have
be no other studies to date that have tracked these outcomes, including complications, and long
term effects of its use. (7) The National Catholic Partnership on Disability put emphasis on the
risks of thrombosis and seizures associated with high estrogen levels and the lack of rigorous
clinical trials testing this treatment. There is also concern for the additional health risks related to
weight gain and short stature and the effects that will come from it. Lastly, the article touched on
the slippery slope of medical decision making. Once the decision was made to start estrogen therapy
and compromise growth, it then became incredibly easier for doctors and parents to partake in an
invasive hysterectomy without considering the moral and ethical objections.

Left Pedal Pedal
The Left Pedal: The clutch pedal is actually a three position pedal. When fully depressed it puts
the T in low gear. When let off halfway, you are in neutral and when released all the way out you
are in second or high gear. This last position is only true if you have the hand lever pushed all the
way forward. If the hand lever is half way back or all the way back the clutchpedal is in neutral. It
is a little safety feature of the Model T Ford transmission so if the hand lever is back or halfway
forward, you have to actively push the clutch pedal in to make the car move. For the beginner, it
is best to leave the hand lever in the halfway position while you are starting to drive the T. This
way you only have to deal with low gear while you get a feel for the clutch and brakes. Your
instructor will let you start out in low gear so you can get the feel of how you can speed up and
slow down using the throttle. Yes, the engine will help you slow down in low gear if you push the
right lever under the steering wheel all the way forward. You don t have to rely solely on the
brakes to slow and stop you. Putting the car in low gear by pushing the clutch pedal and moving
the throttle lever up is a great way to slow down for turns and stop lights without going into neutral.
It is actually the preferred way to reduce speed. Practice pushing the clutch into low gear and letting
it out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You use it to slow the car and to stop the car. As pointed out before, you should use the engine to
slow the T but at some point when you need to stop, you must release the clutch pedal halfway or
all the way (depending on the position of your hand brake/high gear lever) and then step on the
right brake pedal. Because of the three pedals, the brake is used the most, it pays to use the
engine to slow the car. As we will point out next, using the reverse pedal to slow the car to save

Marco Polo- An Exploratory Essay
Many children, including myself, have once played the game Marco Polo. Although, I have
always been curious, who exactly is Marco Polo? My fascination of Marco Polo warped into a
fixation of his travels. Marco Polo was born in Venice in the year 1254. His father, Nicolo, and
his uncle, Maffeo, were merchants who had seats in the great nobleman council of Venice (Polo
IV). According to his records, he had traveled thousands of miles with his father and uncle. Marco,
Nicolo and Maffeo (known as the Polos) left Venice, and did not return for twenty six years. Upon
their return, they were not welcomed in Venice. The Polos were long thought to have been dead.
When they arrived in Venice, their clothes were old and worn out; the things that... Show more

He called this city the City of Heaven (Freedman 41); Marcos wrote, It is without a doubt the
finest and most splendid city in the world (Freedman 41). However, Marco Polo s last stop was in
China, a place so different and interesting compared to his own; he spent the majority of his time
there. After about a three and a half year journey, Marco noted that the Polos arrived in the court of
Kublai Khan, the conqueror of China. The Great Khan ruled a vast empire of prosperous cities that
had richer goods, services, and technology than any place in Europe that Marco had ever seen
(Freedman 6). Kublai Khan was the grandson of the infamous Genghis Khan, the fearless Mongol
who swept across Asia and the Middle East generations earlier. When the Polos arrived in
Shangdu (the capitol of Kublai Khan s empire), the Mongol empire stretched from China, to
Russia and Iraq; the empire was at the pinnacle of its existence (Polo 26). Marco stated that he
soon rose to a position of power in Kublai Khan s court, because Mublai Khan was pleased by
Marco s knowledge and logic. Marco endeavored on confidential missions to learn about all kinds
of different matters in the countries he visited, in order to satisfy the curiosity of the Great Khan
(Hart 35). The Polos accumulated great wealth in jewels and gold, thanks to the generosity of
Kublai Khan; however, they eventually grew homesick and began their

The factors that contributed in the growth were aggressive marketing campaigns with the aim to
promote its brand and product. The company gained the competitive advantage by enhancing the
services it offered like making online shopping easy and cheap with almost every product available

also contributed in its growth as the number of stores was increased; however, the factors involved
in decrease in G.P include the closure of its Strategic Business Unit in some foreign countries.

Guidance Services
CHAPTER I BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Introduction Historically, the term guidance has
been used in the field of education to designate the assistance given to students in the solution of
problems that lay outside the area of classroom teaching situations. For instance, ever since the first
decade of the present century, guidance has meant, to a large extent, the guidance of students in the
area of vocational problems. By about 1925, a growing number of colleges and universities were
providing guidance services for their students. These activities were more commonly referred to as
student personnel services. Today, these services constitute an all embracing program of assistance

Epistemological Assumptions Focus On What Can Be Acquired...
Epistemological assumptions focus on what can be known and how knowledge can be acquired
(Bell, 8). I am a positivist; we believe that knowledge is found via empirical observations
(obtained through the senses). Positivism follows an identical approach as the study of natural
sciences in the testing of a theory. Though their is a difference between the two fields the
deductive approach works just as well in both. You create a theory, generate a hypothesis, test
with empirical data, and see whether or not it confirms or rejects it (6). If it is confirmed by
empirical means, then it is knowledge (9). I believe that the world can be objectively experienced
and described, via quantitative research: collecting data, transforming it into statistics which then
formulate into facts and uncover patterns (14). Ontology as Bell states is split up into two
camps, by two questions, firstly: is social reality real, or is it a set of mental constructions? (12)
Secondly, is social reality pre existing or is it created through our actions? (12) I am an
objectivist; I believe there is a pre existing social reality, were social phenomena exist outside the
influence of social actors. My assumptions, would impact my choice of research design by
limiting my selection. For me to research a social phenomenon, I would need a research design
that would allow me to study it as a physical object. Something that provides a lot of quantitative
data, and that if given to other researchers would reveal the

As stated in the Morning Call on January 11, 2013, Uniforms will reduce bullying, teasing and
disruption while also being a cheaper alternative for poor parents who struggle every year to afford
new school clothes for their children (Esack). Much like the Allentown Area School District,
incorporating uniforms needs to be a priority for Pen Argyl High School. Not only will students
have better attendance once uniforms are required, but one can also expect school achievement to
increase. The enacting of a uniform rule by the Pen Argyl School District geared towards the high

Overall, if uniform wearing was an required component of Pen Argyl High School, student priorities
would be focused on the more appropriate topic of academics rather than the fad of fashion trends;
leading to more student awareness and less bullying, or attention to student clothing, throughout the
school day. In addition to the apparent bullying over style trends and choices, another issue that
could be eliminated through the incorporation of uniforms is the lessening of disciplinary action
directed towards students for dress code violations. Almost daily, students are sent to the office for
dress code checks which are most often handled by the Vice Principal. Students are commonly
sent for checks based on the following items that are considered questionable: midriff revealing
tops, ripped and low rise jeans, short skirts and shorts, exposed shoulders and necklines and
spandex for the girls. Then there are ill fitting jeans and inappropriate slogans on t shirts and
sweatshirts for the boys. A uniform policy would eliminate the need for dress code checks, which
would enable the vice principal to concentrate on more important issues within the high school. Not
only would uniforms eliminate this disciplinary issue of student dress, but the incorporation of a
uniform policy would better prepare students

Summary and Critique of The Gift of Sex Essay
A Book Review of The Gift of Sex University Abstract This paper is a summary of the book The
Gift of Sex along with my responses for each section in the book. Along with the physical aspect
of sex, there is a spiritual aspect of sex, which is mostly neglected by today s culture and even by
Christians. The authors believe that sex is also a spiritual and emotional act, involving the total
person, the body, soul and spirit. There is a connection with the sexual relationship of a husband
and his wife, and the intimate relationship of God and man. Revelation of this reality would bring
freedom and fulfillment in God and in marriage. There are many aspects to a sexual relationship
between a husband and wife,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scriptures such as Jeremiah 7:9, 23:10; Isaiah 62:5; and the entire book of Hosea reveal that the
relationship of God and His people is compared to a marriage relationship. The symbolism of the
bride and groom is depicted in the New Testament in scriptures such as Ephesians 5 and
Revelation 19:6 7. The authors believe that sex is not just for unity and procreation, but also for
pleasure in the marriage relationship. The Song of Songs is poetry of the erotic relationship
between a man and his wife, which is filled with passionate feelings. Christ has broken down the
barriers between men and women, and therefore they do not have to live by different standards
of sexual pleasure any longer. Men and women are equal in terms of value, ability, and position
before God. Therefore, both husband and wife are commanded to give themselves to each other
in marriage, with love being the guiding principle for sexual behavior. Penner and Penner (2003)
believe that, it is important for Christian couples to understand the Bible s pro sex message
(Kindle Location 425). I agree that sexuality reflects an aspect of the image of God in us and I

Kung Bushman Essay
The !Kung Bushman
Most contemporary foraging groups, such as the !Kung and other Bushman tribes, are viewed as a
primitive people. Some have even gone as far to say that they are the last representatives of the
stone age. While it is true that these people have the most similar culture to what we believe
primitive persons to have had, the analogies they can provide us with the people of the past are
very inaccurate. These comparisons are so unrivaled due to factors such as time and the wrong
sense of view many people have on them. Another reason that we cannot compare the !Kung of
today to the people of the past is because they are now advancing in society with the use of
technology. I believe that the !Kung tribe is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

manner of accomplishing a task especially using technical processes, methods, or knowledge.
According to this definition, the !Kung have a very advanced technology. They have proven that
they can accomplish tasks using very precise processes, methods, and vast knowledge. It is not our
technology, but they have proved that they do not need ours to survive. It is their own form of
living, which makes them a unique, separate culture. This in no way makes them animal like, wild,
or undomesticated. In fact, the bushman have developed techniques that are obviously creditable
due to the fact that they survived this way for so long. In addition, they have the same kinship if
not stronger than our own. They can handle disputes without a leader and are very fond of working
together as a team. In this aspect, they don t need our methods of living. Our methods though, is
exactly what the !Kung are getting involved in. According to Howell, most bushman are settled on

Living Like Weasels Rhetorical Analysis
Living Like Weasels Rhetorical Analysis In her essay Living Like Weasels , Annie Dillard
explores the idea of following a single calling in life, and attaching one s self it this calling as the
weasel on Ernest Thompson Seton s eagle had. Dillard presents her argument using the analogy
of a weasel and how the; weasel lives as he s meant to, yielding at every moment to the perfect
freedom of single necessity (Dillard). In constructing her argument, however, she often contradicts
herself undermining the effectiveness of her argument and leaving the reader confused. Dillard
primarily uses ethos and pathos to support her argument and concerning both, the reader
discovers; inconsistencies in her character, and conflicts between her perceptions of the weasel s
emotions and its actions. Concerning her ethos, Dillard presents herself as a part of suburbia and
then is suddenly, inexplicably overcome by the desire to live wild. Dillard also uses very detailed
language throughout the essay in describing her surroundings and thoughts, however; this further
undermines her argument and ethos as she is trying to convince the reader that she could simply
become as simple and single minded as the weasel she has focused her argument around. With her
use of pathos, Dillard begins her essay with descriptions of the weasel s brutality, yet; she
concludes by stating the weasel lives as is necessary. By simplifying her experience and presenting
a reasonable explanation for why she wanted to

Animal Captivity Research Paper
Zoos have been around for thousands of years holding thousands of different species for humans
to marvel at. The first recorded instance of animals in captivity was in fifteen hundred B.C. in
egypt where animals from all over Africa were kept. Zoos have been used as ways for people to
view animals they would most likely never have a chance to see in the wild. This is why zoos
have been so popular because everyday people have the opportunity to see animals that they would
have never seen before. Unfortunately animals living in zoos have no chance of living in their
natural habitat. They will spend their entire lives living in a enclosement being marveled at by
humans. Animals should not be kept in captivity because no living creature should... Show more

Some animal containment facilities are solely designed to rehabilitate injured animals and prepare
them to be released back into the wild. Zoos on the other hand are only meant for people s
entertainment. The animals in zoos are not being prepared to be sent back into the wild. Zoos are
filled with animals which are not often seen by the population surrounding the zoo. Rather than
keep endangered species in the zoos more widely covered animals are placed in zoos to draw
crowds. Zoos find themselves in a bind. In order to maintain this popularity and income they
have to cram in as many charismatic, big draw species as possible into a limited space. This
commercial need can clash with the desire to recreate natural environments and can even, as
studies have shown, diminish the actual proportion of endangered species under their care.
(Sanctuaries or Showbiz: What s the Future of Zoos?). Zoos need to focus on rehabilitation and
protecting endangered wildlife. Instead of just being a major tourist trap zoos should focus on
saving endangered animals. If you wanted to design a zoo for conservation, that would be very
different from an entertainment zoo, said Ben Minteer, an ethicist at Arizona State University. A

Summary Of The Guitarist By Pablo Picasso
While visiting the Dallas Museum of art I saw many pieces of art and many different names of
the artist. Some of the artist I recognized and even more that I didn t. One artwork that I found
very extraordinary was The Guitarist by Pablo Picasso 1965. It s a unique oil on canvas
painting that has dimensions overall of 76 x 38 3/16 in. (1 m 93.04 cm x 96.98 cm). The
Guitarist is located under European Art 20th Century on the 2nd level. It is apart of The Karl
and Esther Hoblitzelle Collection and was gifted by the Hoblitzelle Foundation. This fine art has
many remarkable qualities to be discussed, more than just it being created by Picasso. Such as
him almost always making artwork with an intent for the viewers to interpret the deeper meaning.
He I able to do this by incorporating elements of art and principles of art in order for us to decipher

Guitarist, along with biographical and contextual evidence for further understanding.
Pablo Picasso is well known for creating paintings that are considered to be abstract. He distances
the images he draws from anything of the natural world. The Guitarist is no stranger to this
concept. He s able to create this abstract art, by again, using elements of art; starting with his
unique use of lines. In this particular artwork, he uses contour lines; he draws an object as though

Solipsism In The Fight Club
From the beginning of the Fight Club, Tyler s apparent purpose, in the forming of Fight Club
and Project Mayhem, was to bring the narrator to rock bottom in order to take him out of the
unsatisfying everydayness of his life. The narrator develops a form of solipsistic therapy that
allows his own mind to find a way to heal himself. In this way, he learns that in order to start over
in life he needs let go of all his physical possessions and begin again with nothing. Once he hits
rock bottom, there would be nowhere left to go but up. In addition, he initiates Project Mayhem
in an attempt to create as much chaos as possible in order to spread his therapy further. This type
of therapeutic strategy is similar to the methodology of crossfit training, which focus on specific
areas of weakness in training. This therapy employs a form of personal solipsism in order to
confront the narrator s issues, because Tyler knew that only he was able to control and
understand his own conscience. The first step towards Tyler s downward spiral in his life, which
also led him to start joining therapy groups, was when the narrator was denied any medication for
his insomnia by a doctor. After the doctor refused to acknowledge his suffering, Tyler realized that
he would find no solace in asking for help, and he reacted to this by relying on personal solipsism
to help himself. The form of therapy that he develops, which would initially establish the first Fight
Club, was based around the theory that

Speechmakers understand the importance of using persuasive strategies to attract the attention of
their listeners. Politicians especially, use communicative devices that are powerful enough to elicit
interest from their audience. In his trial, Socrates understood the importance of using rhetorical

Political and Economic Changes in America 1820 1848
Since the creation of the United States Constitution, the many leaders of our nation took different
roles in trying to attain perfectionism for their country. From the federalist views of John Adamsto
the democratic views of Jefferson, America was experiencing the endeavor that was being a young
nation in the midst of the 19th century. The emergence of John Quincy Adamsin 1820 started an
Era of Good Feelings with exceptional political advancements and economic achievements. While
Jackson s democratic views were not always what were expected, during his presidency, the country
grew national and world attraction. Through periods of boom and bust, political and economic
changes in America undeniably helped reshape society between the years 1820 and 1848 with the
emergence of new and innovative advancements.
At the beginning of this time period, in 1820, the United States government was trying to figure
out its identity. Both the Senate and House of Representatives were trying to regulate the
executive office. John Quincy Adams addressed this issue in a personal diary while serving as
Secretary of State to James Monroe, stating One of the most remarkable features of what I am
witnessing every day is the perpetual struggle in both the House of Congress to control the
Executive гѓј to make it dependent upon the subservient to them (Doc 1). Following the Panic

The daily life of children in homosexual families will help to further advance a better understanding
of the daily family life of children with parents of the same sex. Research shows that children within
these same sex families have an inclusive and flexible (Bosisio 9) representation of family. Along
with this representation in, Peer Relations Among Adolescents With Female Same Sex Parents this
suggests that important decisions about adolescent lives (such as custody determinations) should be
made not on the basis of parental sexual orientation, but by focusing instead on the qualities of
adolescents relationships with parents (Wainright 125). Quality of parent child relationship is
an important factor in any family. As this is seen as a similarity between the heterosexual and
homosexual families, there is also that one up that a statement has to be made about child on
behalf of their parent s sexual orientation. Children are uniquely vulnerable. A range of
international human rights laws aim to protect the family rights of children and recognise that
the family often makes a vital contribution to the happiness and security of children s lives
(Hodson 519). Children in general do not have a choice to what type of family dynamic they
become involved in. Whether they are born into a family, or adopted into one, it is not based on
the choice of the child. Because of this, the happiness of these children comes into question. A
valid family by law is not continuous throughout the world, so if the family is not recognized as
real, it effects the children, and leads them to question then what they are. In opposition to Bossio
s claim that children have a inclusive and flexible description of family is the work of Jacky

The Use of Immorality in Order to Achieve Popular Rule Essay
Throughout The Prince and The Discourses of Livy, Niccolo Machiavelli demonstrates multiple
theories and advocacies as to why popular rule is important to the success of a state. Popular rule is
a term that will be used to define an indirect way to govern the people of a state. In order to rule the
masses, a leader must please the people or revolts will occur, causing mayhem and a lack of
stability in one’s state. During both written works, Machiavelli stresses the importance of
obedience and order needed for a state, and especially for a leader to be successful. Machiavelli
thoroughly states that anything and everything must be done to keep the peace of the masses, even

In the bigger picture, it is more moral to prevent disorder to a community and keep it obedient and
prosperous than to let it fall to disorder and tyranny. Therefore, the acts of immorality that a ruler
does to accomplish this are justifiable means to the more important end of securing power to
maintain order.
Machiavelli is a supporter of popular rule, though in an indirect way. Rulers must please their
constituents but not give them power. For if the people feel they have power they will rebel
against their leader and cause chaos in the state. On page 96 Machiavelli states, “it is the
populace who are responsible for innumerable conflicts and clashes in a republic. Because it
is difficult to satisfy the majority without upsetting the minority, people become enraged and
protest, causing what the government would consider to be conflicts. That is why it is so important
to create a strong government that revolves around a magistrate or council, for people fear being
publicly accused of faults, let alone as a threat to public liberty. Machiavelli states that there is no
authority more “useful and necessary for leaders of a government to employ upon
their citizens. “[Citizens] for fear of being accused, dare not attempt to do anything that

As it s required to remove the ponds and G. Ross Lord Dam for some of the simulations, Civica
will remove them from the calibrated model and future model to create another two models.
The models (scenarios) will be simulated using 2 to 100 year design storm, 350 year storm and
regional storm (Hurricane Hazel). The 2 to 100 year design storm will be only used for models
with ponds. The 350 year storm will be used for all four models. The regional storm will be used

The regional storm (Hurricane Hazel) will be adjusted for each catchment to consider the areal
reduction factor. The factor will be calculated based on the equivalent circular area and the area
reduction factor percentage lookup table given in Technical Guide, River Stream Systems: Flooding
Hazard Limit (Water Resource Section, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, 2002). Considering
the large number of catchments, Civica will develop a tool to calculate the equivalent circular area
and then assign the right reduction factor.

Attenuated Vaccination
A common alternative to the live attenuated vaccinations are inactivated, or killed, vaccines.
Inactivated vaccines are produced by growing the virus in a medium and then inactivating it with
heat and/or a chemical. Since the virus is inactivated, it is unable to cause infection, even in patients
that suffer from immunodeficiency. Inactivated viruses are faced with limitations, however. Only
viral vaccines containing the whole virusare available in this form, which includes; influenza; polio;
rabies; and hepatitis A (Figure 3). The inactivated vaccinations also must be administered in
multiple doses, as the first dose does not produce protective antibodies, but only primes the immune
systemfor infection (Offit et al.. 2002). Polysaccharide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is still a great deal of information to learn from the study of viruses and the continued
exploration of the viral genome is crucial in understanding how viruses communicate, transmit from
host to host and evade immune responses. The ever change nature of the viral genome has shown
us that the most dangerous viral infections of today may be undermined by newer and more
effective viruses, resulting in catastrophic outcomes. Through the study of viruses, it is the hope of
the scientific community to be ahead of the viral curve, preventing infections before they even

Analysis Of Stripped For Parts By Jennifer Khan
Disruption of the Dead In the essay Stripped for Parts written, by Jennifer khan. The general
concept that is addressed is how morbid the process of harvesting dead peoples organs out of
their bodies. The way Khan starts the essay is by using a narrative approach. The narrative
approach helps express the emotion throughout her points she tries to bring up. She uses the story
of a dead old man lying on a table waiting for his organs to be taken out. Throughout this she goes
from giving examples of different doctors, professors, and other professionals. The thesis statement
that grabbed my attention the most is Compared with such micro scare cures, transplants which
consist of salvaging entire organs from a heart beating cadaver and sewing... Show more content on

The main emotion I felt while reading Khans paper was that I was shocked by the process organ
donors go through in their afterlives. It slightly made me angry at some moments as well. On
the first page when Khan brings up different points the one that made me interested was In the
movies, for instance, surgeons tended to say it would take time to find a heart as though one
had been hidden behind a tree or misplaced along with the car keys (123.) This was the point that
brought out the anger emotion that came upon me. The reason I used this quote the was
because she compared how surgeons took time to find these organs to having to find a pair of
keys that were lost, which are two very different concepts. This essay was also very shocking
considering how unaware I was of what a donor even meant. Eventually finding out that not
every organ works in the new host it is planted in. Even though it is not the major concept it
really helps convince the readers. When it is said Sustaining a dead body until its organs can be
harvested is a tricky process requiring the latest in medical technology (124.) This really puts it
into perspective for some readers from what is essentially going on. Also considering it is just
upsetting about how a dead person has had their whole entire lives and is just lying on a table
waiting to be dissected. This approach is added to Khan s essay for the sympathy

Essay On Braling s Pov
Braling s POV But why so early, Braling? Smith asked me. It was about ten in the evening and
the sun was setting. I hadn t had a full drink all night, coming home from a restaurant with a bar.
This was the first time I had a night away from my wife in 10 years. I couldn t believe I got out.
How d you get away? Smith asked me, as if he was reading my mind. But the answer was a secret.
Mysteriously, I answered, I ll tell you in a minute, but responding to his question wasn t what
was on my mind at the moment. It was how I was going to reveal my secret to him. Luckily, the
subject changed. I explained how my wife blackmailed me into marrying her, and then decided
to ask him about how his relationship was. It s fine. Smith said briefly. I knew that this wasn t
the truth. I stopped walking, looked him in the eyes, and gave a slight nod to say, Go on.
Realizing that he had to keep talking, he continued. It s just hard to live with a woman who calls
you at work all day, and sits on your lap all evening, especially when you ve been married 15
years, you know? Seeing his distressed face, I knew he wanted to change the subject, so I put my
hand in my pocket. When I took it out, I heard Smith gasp and start wheezing, as if he were a
balloon flying out of control. But that is the ticket for the Thursday rocket to Rio! I could tell from
his voice that he thought Mrs. Braling would never allow

A P And Godfather Death Comparison
In John Updike s A P, and Godfather Death, we see many similarities between the plots, but while
both authors know how to captivate their audience by introducing different plots, there are also
many differences in the plots throughout the story. The first part of the plot in Godfather Death
takes place when a poor man who has twelve children and had to work all day and night just to
give them bread ,(Grimm 1) has a thirteenth child. Worried about what he will do he runs outside to
find a godfather for the child. And because the father was so poor he chose Death as the godfather
because Death makes all men equal, (Grim 14) and also because Death takes the rich and the poor
without distinction (Grimm 14). The next part of the plot takes place after the kid has grown up
and Death led him out into the woods, showed him an herb, (Grimm 18). With the herb, the kid
soon becomes a rich and famous doctor. Thus, Death kept his promise to the... Show more content

Progenitor Cell Vascularization
The trachea is an organ particularly prone to infections as it functions to transport atmospheric air,
containing a multitude of airborne bacteria and viruses, to the lungs. When these microorganisms
enter the respiratory system the trachea s goblet cells secrete mucus to trap them and halt their
progression into the lungs. Ciliated epithelium within the lumen along with the cough reflex clears
the secretions from the trachea and excretes them through the mouth. Therefore it is important that
when generating a TET appropriate cell expansion and differentiation occurs. There are several
proposed methods of seeding a scaffold that include direct in vitro implantation, progenitor cell
mobilization and adjacent tissue cellular migration. Progenitor cell mobilization is promoted by...

Vascularization is done either through a shared blood supply from adjacent structure or
angiogenesis within the graft. Angiogenesis was confirmed in all patients by one month. The
patient with postmortem analysis showed the presence of capillary proliferation, whereas in the
other patient bleeding was elicited by bronchoscope contact of the graft within the lumen. These
results show that the grafts will likely not failure due to inadequate vascularization. Despite these
promising results the patients experienced stenosis and fungal infections that complicated their post
operative periods. Stenosis was identified in two patients along the distal anastomosis sites
secondary to scar formation. In both cases the stenosis responded well to serial balloon dilation.
Fungal infections were found in two patients, although one was likely caused by the pre and
postoperative steroid administration. Based on this it is suggested that patients with TET
transplantation should be treated with prophylactic with anti fungal

Reflection About The TazпїЅ Prayer
At the TaizГ© prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about
10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures
together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person
placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their
burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayeraround the cross continued, but this time the cross
statue was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross statue at the table and placed
their heads on it or kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the altogether
final prayer followed by a song was the end of the prayer. From this opportunity of praying in a
group, I learned about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to
the meditative music.
The TaizГ© prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others
together. This was my first time in a TaizГ© prayer, I have never heard about it before this class.
The prayer is centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings,
people stand up to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the
statue. You are not alone, you spend the hour with people of different churches or religious beliefs
either in silence, singing, praying and worshipping.
During the prayer, I learned that the peace

Hersey favorite time was exercised his imagination with reading and writing. Hersey attended
the American School. He also attended British Grammar School. Hersey graduated in literature
at Cambridge University due to the fact that he moved to the United States of America with his
families at the age ten. He also worked at Yale University and Cambridge University as Waiter

World War II. Passionate and hard worker, Hersey won the Pulitzer Prize of American writer and
he was considered one of the New Journalism. In New Journalism, storytelling article of the novel
was typically nonfiction reportage. This is obviously the reason why John Hersey was interested in
the subject of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshimain Japan because John speaking depicts real
historical figures by using the story technique of nonfiction. Moreover, the purpose of writing
Hiroshima was to inform human about the incredible destructive power of atomic bomb on human
beings (1). Another purpose of John Hersey of writing Hiroshima was to show that there was no
political or national consolidated reaction to the bombing of Hiroshima. In

Bacterial Vaginosis Case Studies
Bacterial Vaginosis
Last year I experience for the first time a bacterial vaginosis. It was horrible; a long month of
intense itch, soreness and burning whenever I urinated or had intercourse. My mother
recommended I try some over the counter antifungal cream, I purchase Monistat 7 ( Miconazole
Nitrate 2%) and it worked great. I have not had reoccurrence of bacterial vaginosis but I have heard
it is very common to experience a relapse.
Occurs when there is disequilibrium of normal vaginal flora where Lactobacilli decreases in
population below normal and there is an increase of other bacteria. Three common microorganisms
believed to be present and causing agents for bacterial vaginosis include Candida albicans,

susceptible to the gram staining in diagnosing because it is a gram variable. G. vaginalis has

to be the cause of bacterial vaginosis but rather a signal of microbial imbalance.

For diagnosing a sample of vaginal discharge is needed to perform a wet smear, then observe with
microscope to find trichomonads protazoa and clue cells. Another test for diagnosing is the

Hazardous Train Systems
Heavy rail systems in the United States, and around the world, face a number of hazards and
vulnerabilities. For example, the Movement of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) represents a
potential environmental or chemical hazard if an accident were to occur. The 2013 Lac MГ©gantic
rail disaster exemplify this hazard. Although the trainrolled down a very slight (~1 2%) incline, the
devastation that followed was more representative of a bomb being dropped on the town rather
than a rail accident. This is, of course, an extreme instance, however, even the lesser hazards, for
example trespassing, can lead to disastrous consequences. One of the hazards faced by heavy rail
systems is there sheer size. Often consisting of several locomotives... Show more content on

Many procedures are in place to address the dangers surrounding hazardous cargo. For example,
placarding rail cars to identify contents and requiring the train s crews to carry the Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS) assist first responders in identifying the material in the event of an accident.
A second concern security plans must address is theft of hazardous material when a train is
parked. What prevents someone from stealing or releasing chlorine gas when a train, like the one
in Lac Megantic, is left running and unattended? Terrorists learned how to fly passenger aircraft so
it isn t beyond the realm of possibility that they are learning how to operate freight trains. These are
both serious security concerns that must be address. Again, referencing the Lac Megantic accident,
it appears the LE began his duty day at 1355 and concluded it at 2330, just 25 minutes short of a 10
hour day. This may seem insignificant, but when we consider that his duty day was primarily at
night and he was operating the train alone, these would be considered contributing, but not causal,
factors resulting in the accident. In this case, security planners might address this vulnerability by
dictating that trains operated after sunset have two crew members or limit the total duty day to 8

Terrorism And The Terrorist Group Isis
Unit 9 DB 1
Introduction
As we know the world is gripped with fear in regards to the lasts terrorism acts and the terrorist
group ISIS. Within this report we will discuss how terrorism tends to take a hold on some
individuals and this learner will discuss the overall feeling of this subject that seems to be
missed by the USA and other Nations very briefly. We will try to get a better understanding by
reading these three article which are: Bloom s 2011 article, Bombshells: Women and Terror, from
Gender Issues; Campbell and Hansen 2014 article, Is Narco Violence in Mexico Terrorism? from

issue that can cost more lives and that is when our soldiers are continuously trained to shoot
these girls/women that they were trained to protect can end up affecting our soldiers deeply and
leave psychological marks forever like PTSD. Thereby, we tend to keep seeing an upsurge in
female suicide bombers which has occurred across a variety of nationalistic and secular groups,
but it has also spread to the conservative religious terror networks as well (Bloom, 2011). So, this
learners question about this article is how do you stop a Ghost? This learner will shed more light on
this question in the conclusion.
Is Narco Violence in Mexico Terrorism
The next article by called the Is Narco Violence in Mexico Terrorism, took a look at something
like drug dealer, drug trafficking, and the Cartels, that this learner would have never linked to
terrorism. The author of this article decided that the drug war that is continuously going on in
Mexico produced more than 999, 999 deaths alone between 2006 and 2012, and the extreme
violence has sparked the notion that Mexico is nothing but a failed state wracked by terrorism,
drug terrorism to be exact (Campbell, Hansen, 2014, p. 159). By examining how the narco violence
affect Mexico the articles author was able to augured that there is

Tell All Truth But Tell It Slant Poem Analysis
Poetry is defined as writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience
in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning,
sound, and rhythm (CITE) There are many great poets but one of the most highly regarded is
Emily Dickinson. Dickinson is considered the recluse of Amherst, little did everyone know, she
would turn out to be one of the most influential poets of not only her time but forever. Two of her
poems This is my letter to the world, and Tell all truth but tell it slant both deal with society and
people s emotions. In the poem this is my letter to the world Emily writes about the feeling she has
as she leaves society. Tell all truth but tell it slant is a piece about how the truth is not meant for
everyone. Emily Dickinsonuses poetic devices such as personification, rhymescheme, and metaphor
to accurately convey the unique themes of her pieces.
In Dickinson s poem This is My Letter to the World, she is expressing her reclusiveness towards
the world. What Emily means by this is that she wrote a letter to the world, but the world does
not know who she is since she never leaves her home. She also writes about what nature has
taught her in hopes to teach other people lessons. In the closing of the poem she asks the readers
to not judge her harshly on what she has written. The overall theme of this poem is that if people
were to judge, they should judge by the truth. She does not want to be judged harshly for
separating herself from the world, she just wants to belong. She uses many devices through all of
her poems to help convey the overall theme. In the poem This is My Letter to the World, Dickson
uses the personification of nature, rhyme scheme, and metaphor to show her overall theme.
Within the poem, Dickinson writes, The simple news that Nature told, With tender majesty.
Dickinson is using personification because nature cannot literally speak to her and tell her the basic
truths about life. In this poem, Dickinson communicates with the world, though the message from
Nature. She views nature as her friend, which stresses to the reader that nature is personified.
Dickinson uses slant rhyme within the poem, she also uses

Cyp61 Week 1 Lab Report
Introduction
Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) are present in all three domains of life and constitute a superfamily of
heme containing monooxygenases. CYPs are involved in the metabolism of endogenous and
xenobiotic compounds 1 4. CYPs belong to a variety of families with two global sub families,
CYP51 and CYP61. CYP51 is involved in sterol biosynthesis and is reported as housekeeping CYP
in fungi and is an important target for the antifungal drugs 3, 5. CYP51s are found in sterol
producing animals, plants, protists, but rarely in bacteria, producing 14 О± demethylated sterols 6.
The CYP51 reaction occurs in three steps, each reaction requires one molecule of oxygen and two
NADPH derived reducing equivalents 7 9. Another cytochrome P450 CYP61 (sterol 22
desaturase) represents an ancient activity, as the superfamily is present as CYP710 in plants 10.
Plant P450s are generally classified as strong candidate of the C 22 desturases that produce
stigmasterol and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sterol C 22 desaturase plays an important role as terminal enzyme in the sterol biosynthesis in
fungi and plants. Fungal cytochrome P450 monooxygenase, CYP61, is the sterol C 22 desaturase,
the penultimate enzyme in the ergosterol biosynthetic pathway 14, 16. Erogosterol synthesis
involves lanosterol synthase needed for cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqalene and CYP61 for C 22
desaturation. In case of plants, the first cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqalene is mediated by
cycloartenol synthase and CYP710 (a C 22 desaturase) for C 22 desaturation 11. Interestingly,
Leishmania and Trypanosomes being non photosynthetic protozoans not only synthesize lanosterol
but also contain CYP710 (L. major, XP_001684965) related genes 17, 18. Presence of CYP710
related gene suggests the possible role of these C 22 desaturases in the synthesis of stigmasterol in
these

Importance Of Political Egalitarianism
Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have
equal conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of
political equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio
professional categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider
democracy as the only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes
some participate and the others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the
major factors that affects participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work
compares how people with different economic situations participate in the society, specifically
whether they try to help to solve problems in the community if they ask help from government
officials and etc. It also examines other factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election,
and believe that politicians listen to the needs of people. Many studies on different countries have
established that the greater economic status of the individuals corresponds to greater political
participation. Political commitment is quite rigidly subordinates to the following logic: a certain
social and economic position that evokes a sense of social and political competence generates a
certain level of political participation. Understanding political participation presupposes the ability
to understand

A lot of money would be used for solving the social problems. Most of the time, there is limited money for that. Technical also been used to solving problems. So, in order to avoid the limited of resources, most of the organizations will possess the resources (such as money and expertise) needed to tackle social problems. Analysis: My analysis is that is in order to solve these social problems, the environment will need to be cleaner. Our organization would benefit by contributing to assist in correcting these issues. The company can use ethical decision making to secure the organization environmental responsibility. Decisions that would allow for government agencies to get involved with the organization. • 4. Irish Ireland Research Paper Despite the Catholic Irish people making up over 80 percent of the population, they were subjugated to the lower classes to live in squalor. Despite the inherent divide between the Protestant British and Catholic Irish, Ireland was relatively peaceful for the next century, other than a rebellion led by Theobald Wolfe Tone and the United Irishmen in 1798. 30,000 people were killed in this rebellion, which laid the groundwork for the separatist republicanism to come and caused the Act of Union of 1800 to be passed, closing the Irish Parliament in Dublin and giving Protestant London full control over Catholic Ireland. The population quadrupled during the peaceful century from 1740 1840, the economy flourished, Catholics fought for, and gained, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An Irish nationalist paramilitary organization called the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) was established in 1858 and worked for the armed expulsion of the British, where the Home Rule Party worked for the political expulsion. In 1912, the British passed a Home Rule Bill, which gave the Irish political autonomy, but the bill was never enacted due to the breakout of World War I in 1914. In 1913, two organizations, the nationalist Irish Volunteers (IV) and unionist (pro British) Ulster Volunteers (UV) were founded in Dublin and Belfast, respectively, and the IV absorbed the IRB. The two groups were set for a full on conflict before the outbreak of the war, but both sides believed the national question could be answered after WWI and sent men to the trenches. A small, revolutionary minority of the IV stayed behind, as they did not want to fight for the British, these men constituted the IRB, and saw WWI as their time to strike the weakened British. They struck on Easter Sunday in 1916, but were defeated after six days. This became known as the Easter Rising. After the IRB was defeated, 16 of the leaders were taken to Kilmainham Gaol and executed. Executing the leaders of the Rising was England s big mistake as it made them martyrs and gave the Irish the momentum they needed to fight a war of Independence, which began in 1919, and that s where the movie, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, takes ... • 5. Evaluation Of Selected Patient And Theories Essay Course Project Introduction: Selected Patient and Theories In the history of nursing many theories have been developed and applied to nursing practice. After selecting a patient, I have assessed her demographics, health status, and health needs. Also, I have selected two theories to address these needs and have summarized their main concepts. Finally, I have discussed my patient and theories choices. M.R. is a white fifty two years old Spanish female who lives in Spain. She is five feet and four inches tall and weighs 121 pounds. She thinks of herself as a member of Western and Spanish cultures. M.R. is a married Catholic, has two adult children, owns a flat in a tranquil area, and works as a clerk at a public high school. In Spain health services are paid for using taxes and M.R. lives near several medical facilities. Although M.R. has a cardiomyopathy, she is otherwise healthy. She performs self care, activities of daily living, employment tasks, and light exercise independently. In Spanish culture family members usually live together or nearby and gather on Sundays. However, M.R. s husband is away on Sundays and her daughter lives in other country. These facts constitute her cultural needs. Also, M.R. takes care of the household finances and housework and has no time to socialize. This situation constitutes her main psychosocial need because it has an impact on her support system. • 6. The Relationship Between Corporate Governance And Performance LITERATURE ABSTRACTS 1. This article focuses on the Gompers, Ishii, and Metrick (GIM, 2003) study which found that strong shareholder rights lead to higher stock price returns and thus value. This is a great indicator that good governance has a direct effect on the performance of the firm. The article finds the correlation of corporate governance and the positive impact it has on the firm, management, and shareholders. However the article provides a subjective view, is good governance the correct metric of evaluation. The primary finding of the article is a comprehensive and economic analysis defending the relation between corporate governance and performance. This article examines the inter relationships among corporate governance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yermack, 1996). This article argues against the findings of Jensen (1993) and Lipton and Lorsch (1992), which stated that larger boards have a negative effect on firm value; in fact the study suggests that having a large diverse board enables the firm to have more experience and expertise to contribute to firm value and boost firm performance. 3. This article notes advocates for shareholders have requested that corporations have smaller board sizes with more outside representation. Despite the importance of corporate boards and the call to action for them to reform, economists have not been able to conclude what drives the composition and size of boards. This study was based on three non mutually exclusive testable hypotheses. Overall the article, came to a conclusion that board size/composition vary across all firms and remains unexplained. Firms that issue IPO start off with small board sizes and add .13 members every year for the first 10 years. Board of firms issuing IPO s usually are comprised of 56% outside members and 44 inside members. This study identified the following characteristics within them: larger firms have seasoned and diverse independent boards and firms in which managers have substantial influence have less independent boards. 4. The article supports the idea of good corporate board of governance leads to increased firm performance. For example with increased operating performance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Flq Essay In October 1970, Canada faced a pressing terrorist attack in Montreal, Quebec by a group known as the Front de Liberation du Quebec, or the FLQ for short. The group committed multiple attacks starting in 1963 that slowly escalated until the October Crisis, where they kidnapped two government officials and proceeded to murder one of them. The Canadian government responded harshly and rapidly. The prime minister of Canada, Pierre Trudeau, issued the War Measures Act which along with various things allowed the police and military full reign to arrest people and hold them with no explanation. The Canadian population was highly supportive of the government s action believing that this extreme state repression would bring a finish to the October... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these demands were a reading of the manifesto on public radio, a half million dollar ransom, and the release of several convicted or detained FLQ members . The government refused to release the FLQ members, but did read the manifesto on public radio and select newspapers printed the manifesto. However, this was not enough for the FLQ and they kidnapped and shortly killed the provincial cabinet minister Pierre LaPorte. James Cross remained kidnapped until December 1970, when the police found his holding cell. The government responded aggressively to the kidnapping of both James Cross and Pierre LaPorte. After LaPorte s body was found in a car by the Montreal airport, the government requested assistance from the Canadian Armed Forces . The federal government proclaimed the existence of a state of apprehended insurrection under the War Measures Act . Under these emergency regulations, the FLQ was outlawed and membership became a criminal act . The liberties of citizens were also suspended, and arrests and detentions were authorized without a charge . During the War Measures Act, the military was patrolling the streets and police forces were given additional freedom, while the liberties of citizens were taken away. One way that the police force was given further freedom is they had the freedom to search and detain anyone they wanted without stating a reason. Through this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Chuck E Cheese Research Paper Chuck E. Cheese s, the home of many childhood parties and fun packed arcade games, had been a place I often frequented many times as a young boy. After every quarterly ME and MP filled report card I received in primary school, my mother brought me to this kid friendly hub as a reward. I remembered having tons of fun playing skee ball, the Contra and TMNT arcade machines, and the ticket splashing Jumpin Jackpot game. Even though I used to fear Chuck E. roaming around the play areas, I absolutely enjoyed making loads of one day friendships with the kids roaming around me, which resulted in a multitude of sketch booth pictures, and tickets cashed in for slinkies. By the way, their pizza had me jumping for joy in every visit. Coming back as an adult, I initially felt a vibe of delight and happiness upon returning. The ultimate difference, however, when comparing my childhood experiences to now was through my value of gathering tickets for prizes. Considering that most of the prizes are not meant for the teenage audience, I usually left my tickets on a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example I saw was that there was a 7 year old boy with a blue white striped shirt that came down playground slide area upside down. Two other boys of similar age pulled him out and laughed together as they headed to the basketball arcade games. This interaction remained calm and collected from start to finish with positive moods at the end, which fits the easy child temperament. Most of the children I examined were not crying or angry except one case I saw. This example involved a relatively chubby kid of 9 to 10 years old who got relatively frustrated with a Spongebob coin game after always coming short to big payouts, which will connect to the next ... • 9. Estrogen Therapy Essay The idea of using large doses of estrogen to permanently seal the epiphyseal, or growth plates began in the 1940 s and 1950 s. It was originally used to treat children with acromegaly, or excessive growth disorder caused by the pituitary gland producing excessive growth hormone, GH.(6) When the growth plates are closed at an early age it can reduce a height by several inches. In 2006, the intentions of this type of treatment drastically changed. Douglas Diekema, who was the director of education at the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics at the Seattle Children s Hospital, and Daniel Gunther, a endocrinologist, announced in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine a new use of estrogen therapy. This time though, it was for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was argued how the health care system is moving towards fully adopting evidence based medicine, yet Gunther and Deikema offered no evidence that Ashely or any other child would actually benefit from the treatment. Estrogen therapy for growth attenuation is considered a new innovative therapy or off label treatment using an approved drug, but the AAIDD claims there have be no other studies to date that have tracked these outcomes, including complications, and long term effects of its use. (7) The National Catholic Partnership on Disability put emphasis on the risks of thrombosis and seizures associated with high estrogen levels and the lack of rigorous clinical trials testing this treatment. There is also concern for the additional health risks related to weight gain and short stature and the effects that will come from it. Lastly, the article touched on the slippery slope of medical decision making. Once the decision was made to start estrogen therapy and compromise growth, it then became incredibly easier for doctors and parents to partake in an invasive hysterectomy without considering the moral and ethical objections. ... • 10. Left Pedal Pedal The Left Pedal: The clutch pedal is actually a three position pedal. When fully depressed it puts the T in low gear. When let off halfway, you are in neutral and when released all the way out you are in second or high gear. This last position is only true if you have the hand lever pushed all the way forward. If the hand lever is half way back or all the way back the clutchpedal is in neutral. It is a little safety feature of the Model T Ford transmission so if the hand lever is back or halfway forward, you have to actively push the clutch pedal in to make the car move. For the beginner, it is best to leave the hand lever in the halfway position while you are starting to drive the T. This way you only have to deal with low gear while you get a feel for the clutch and brakes. Your instructor will let you start out in low gear so you can get the feel of how you can speed up and slow down using the throttle. Yes, the engine will help you slow down in low gear if you push the right lever under the steering wheel all the way forward. You don t have to rely solely on the brakes to slow and stop you. Putting the car in low gear by pushing the clutch pedal and moving the throttle lever up is a great way to slow down for turns and stop lights without going into neutral. It is actually the preferred way to reduce speed. Practice pushing the clutch into low gear and letting it out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As pointed out before, you should use the engine to slow the T but at some point when you need to stop, you must release the clutch pedal halfway or all the way (depending on the position of your hand brake/high gear lever) and then step on the right brake pedal. Because of the three pedals, the brake is used the most, it pays to use the engine to slow the car. As we will point out next, using the reverse pedal to slow the car to save brake ... • 11. Marco Polo- An Exploratory Essay Many children, including myself, have once played the game Marco Polo. Although, I have always been curious, who exactly is Marco Polo? My fascination of Marco Polo warped into a fixation of his travels. Marco Polo was born in Venice in the year 1254. I am a positivist; we believe that knowledge is found via empirical observations (obtained through the senses). Positivism follows an identical approach as the study of natural sciences in the testing of a theory. Though their is a difference between the two fields the deductive approach works just as well in both. You create a theory, generate a hypothesis, test with empirical data, and see whether or not it confirms or rejects it (6). If it is confirmed by empirical means, then it is knowledge (9). I believe that the world can be objectively experienced and described, via quantitative research: collecting data, transforming it into statistics which then formulate into facts and uncover patterns (14). Ontology as Bell states is split up into two camps, by two questions, firstly: is social reality real, or is it a set of mental constructions? (12) Secondly, is social reality pre existing or is it created through our actions? (12) I am an objectivist; I believe there is a pre existing social reality, were social phenomena exist outside the influence of social actors. My assumptions, would impact my choice of research design by limiting my selection. For me to research a social phenomenon, I would need a research design that would allow me to study it as a physical object. In addition to the apparent bullying over style trends and choices, another issue that could be eliminated through the incorporation of uniforms is the lessening of disciplinary action directed towards students for dress code violations. Almost daily, students are sent to the office for dress code checks which are most often handled by the Vice Principal. Students are commonly sent for checks based on the following items that are considered questionable: midriff revealing tops, ripped and low rise jeans, short skirts and shorts, exposed shoulders and necklines and spandex for the girls. Then there are ill fitting jeans and inappropriate slogans on t shirts and sweatshirts for the boys. Along with the physical aspect of sex, there is a spiritual aspect of sex, which is mostly neglected by today s culture and even by Christians. The authors believe that sex is also a spiritual and emotional act, involving the total person, the body, soul and spirit. There is a connection with the sexual relationship of a husband and his wife, and the intimate relationship of God and man. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scriptures such as Jeremiah 7:9, 23:10; Isaiah 62:5; and the entire book of Hosea reveal that the relationship of God and His people is compared to a marriage relationship. The symbolism of the bride and groom is depicted in the New Testament in scriptures such as Ephesians 5 and Revelation 19:6 7. The authors believe that sex is not just for unity and procreation, but also for pleasure in the marriage relationship. The Song of Songs is poetry of the erotic relationship between a man and his wife, which is filled with passionate feelings. Christ has broken down the barriers between men and women, and therefore they do not have to live by different standards of sexual pleasure any longer. Men and women are equal in terms of value, ability, and position before God. Therefore, both husband and wife are commanded to give themselves to each other in marriage, with love being the guiding principle for sexual behavior. Penner and Penner (2003) believe that, it is important for Christian couples to understand the Bible s pro sex message (Kindle Location 425). I agree that sexuality reflects an aspect of the image of God in us and I believe that the church should openly speak out about the biblical perspective of the gift of sex. The concept of marriage is portrayed in the relationship the church has with Christ. This is one of the most differentiating dissimilarities that these two families endure. In How Law Shapes Experiences of Parenthood for Same Sex Couples, by Nicolas Park, Emily Kazyak, and Kathleen Slauson Blevins the impact on the law has on gay, lesbian, and bisexual(GLB) parents is discussed. This represents the view from the United States perspective, as the study was done in California and Nebraska: Law impacts the method gay men and lesbians use to become parents and their subsequent experiences as a family (Park 121). The daily life of children in homosexual families will help to further advance a better understanding of the daily family life of children with parents of the same sex. Research shows that children within these same sex families have an inclusive and flexible (Bosisio 9) representation of family. Along with this representation in, Peer Relations Among Adolescents With Female Same Sex Parents this suggests that important decisions about adolescent lives (such as custody determinations) should be made not on the basis of parental sexual orientation, but by focusing instead on the qualities of adolescents relationships with parents (Wainright 125). Quality of parent child relationship is an important factor in any family. As this is seen as a similarity between the heterosexual and homosexual families, there is also that one up that a statement has to be made about child on behalf of their parent s sexual orientation. Children are uniquely vulnerable. A range of international human rights laws aim to protect the family rights of children and recognise that the family often makes a vital contribution to the happiness and security of children s lives (Hodson 519). Children in general do not have a choice to what type of family dynamic they become involved in. Whether they are born into a family, or adopted into one, it is not based on the choice of the child. Because of this, the happiness of these children comes into question. A valid family by law is not continuous throughout the world, so if the family is not recognized as real, it effects the children, and leads them to question then what they are. In opposition to Bossio s claim that children have a inclusive and flexible description of family is the work of Jacky Coates and Richard Sullivna s, Achieving Competent Family Practice with Same Sex Parents, they claim that we do not yet live in a post heterosexist world, and ... The Use of Immorality in Order to Achieve Popular Rule Essay Throughout The Prince and The Discourses of Livy, Niccolo Machiavelli demonstrates multiple theories and advocacies as to why popular rule is important to the success of a state. Popular rule is a term that will be used to define an indirect way to govern the people of a state. In order to rule the masses, a leader must please the people or revolts will occur, causing mayhem and a lack of stability in one’s state. In the bigger picture, it is more moral to prevent disorder to a community and keep it obedient and prosperous than to let it fall to disorder and tyranny. Therefore, the acts of immorality that a ruler does to accomplish this are justifiable means to the more important end of securing power to maintain order. Machiavelli is a supporter of popular rule, though in an indirect way. Rulers must please their constituents but not give them power. For if the people feel they have power they will rebel against their leader and cause chaos in the state. On page 96 Machiavelli states, “it is the populace who are responsible for innumerable conflicts and clashes in a republic.â€? Because it is difficult to satisfy the majority without upsetting the minority, people become enraged and protest, causing what the government would consider to be conflicts. In The Battler by Ernest Hemingway, Nick Adams, a young man of roughly twenty years of age encounters an older gentleman named Ad Francis, a once famous boxer who claims to have gone crazy after his life as a fighter. Ad is accompanied by his best friend Bugs, a black man who accompanies him on his travels throughout the country and helps keep Ad in check. After Bugs knocks out Ad with the pan, he proceeds to make sure he did not hit him too hard, making sure his eyes can close and that he is still breathing. The narrative approach helps express the emotion throughout her points she tries to bring up. She uses the story of a dead old man lying on a table waiting for his organs to be taken out. Throughout this she goes from giving examples of different doctors, professors, and other professionals. On the first page when Khan brings up different points the one that made me interested was In the movies, for instance, surgeons tended to say it would take time to find a heart as though one had been hidden behind a tree or misplaced along with the car keys (123.) This was the point that brought out the anger emotion that came upon me. The reason I used this quote the was because she compared how surgeons took time to find these organs to having to find a pair of keys that were lost, which are two very different concepts. This essay was also very shocking considering how unaware I was of what a donor even meant. Eventually finding out that not every organ works in the new host it is planted in. Even though it is not the major concept it really helps convince the readers. When it is said Sustaining a dead body until its organs can be harvested is a tricky process requiring the latest in medical technology (124.) This really puts it into perspective for some readers from what is essentially going on. Also considering it is just upsetting about how a dead person has had their whole entire lives and is just lying on a table waiting to be dissected. Reflection About The TazпїЅ Prayer At the TaizГ© prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about 10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayeraround the cross continued, but this time the cross statue was moved to a table. Then next issue that can cost more lives and that is when our soldiers are continuously trained to shoot these girls/women that they were trained to protect can end up affecting our soldiers deeply and leave psychological marks forever like PTSD. Thereby, we tend to keep seeing an upsurge in female suicide bombers which has occurred across a variety of nationalistic and secular groups, but it has also spread to the conservative religious terror networks as well (Bloom, 2011). So, this learners question about this article is how do you stop a Ghost? This learner will shed more light on this question in the conclusion. Is Narco Violence in Mexico Terrorism The next article by called the Is Narco Violence in Mexico Terrorism, took a look at something like drug dealer, drug trafficking, and the Cartels, that this learner would have never linked to terrorism. The author of this article decided that the drug war that is continuously going on in Mexico produced more than 999, 999 deaths alone between 2006 and 2012, and the extreme violence has sparked the notion that Mexico is nothing but a failed state wracked by terrorism, drug terrorism to be exact (Campbell, Hansen, 2014, p. 159). By examining how the narco violence affect Mexico the articles author was able to augured that there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Tell All Truth But Tell It Slant Poem Analysis Poetry is defined as writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm (CITE) There are many great poets but one of the most highly regarded is Emily Dickinson. Dickinson is considered the recluse of Amherst, little did everyone know, she would turn out to be one of the most influential poets of not only her time but forever. Two of her poems This is my letter to the world, and Tell all truth but tell it slant both deal with society and people s emotions. In the poem this is my letter to the world Emily writes about the feeling she has as she leaves society. Tell all truth but tell it slant is a piece about how the truth is not meant for everyone. Emily Dickinsonuses poetic devices such as personification, rhymescheme, and metaphor to accurately convey the unique themes of her pieces. In Dickinson s poem This is My Letter to the World, she is expressing her reclusiveness towards the world. What Emily means by this is that she wrote a letter to the world, but the world does not know who she is since she never leaves her home. She also writes about what nature has taught her in hopes to teach other people lessons. In the closing of the poem she asks the readers to not judge her harshly on what she has written. The overall theme of this poem is that if people were to judge, they should judge by the truth. She does not want to be judged harshly for separating herself from the world, she just wants to belong. She uses many devices through all of her poems to help convey the overall theme. In the poem This is My Letter to the World, Dickson uses the personification of nature, rhyme scheme, and metaphor to show her overall theme. Within the poem, Dickinson writes, The simple news that Nature told, With tender majesty. Dickinson is using personification because nature cannot literally speak to her and tell her the basic truths about life. In this poem, Dickinson communicates with the world, though the message from Nature. She views nature as her friend, which stresses to the reader that nature is personified. Dickinson uses slant rhyme within the poem, she also uses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Cyp61 Week 1 Lab Report Introduction Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) are present in all three domains of life and constitute a superfamily of heme containing monooxygenases. CYPs are involved in the metabolism of endogenous and xenobiotic compounds 1 4. CYPs belong to a variety of families with two global sub families, CYP51 and CYP61. CYP51 is involved in sterol biosynthesis and is reported as housekeeping CYP in fungi and is an important target for the antifungal drugs 3, 5. CYP51s are found in sterol producing animals, plants, protists, but rarely in bacteria, producing 14 О± demethylated sterols 6. The CYP51 reaction occurs in three steps, each reaction requires one molecule of oxygen and two NADPH derived reducing equivalents 7 9. Another cytochrome P450 CYP61 (sterol 22 desaturase) represents an ancient activity, as the superfamily is present as CYP710 in plants 10. Plant P450s are generally classified as strong candidate of the C 22 desturases that produce stigmasterol and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sterol C 22 desaturase plays an important role as terminal enzyme in the sterol biosynthesis in fungi and plants. Fungal cytochrome P450 monooxygenase, CYP61, is the sterol C 22 desaturase, the penultimate enzyme in the ergosterol biosynthetic pathway 14, 16. Erogosterol synthesis involves lanosterol synthase needed for cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqalene and CYP61 for C 22 desaturation. In case of plants, the first cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqalene is mediated by cycloartenol synthase and CYP710 (a C 22 desaturase) for C 22 desaturation 11. Interestingly, Leishmania and Trypanosomes being non photosynthetic protozoans not only synthesize lanosterol but also contain CYP710 (L. major, XP_001684965) related genes 17, 18. Presence of CYP710 related gene suggests the possible role of these C 22 desaturases in the synthesis of stigmasterol in these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Importance Of Political Egalitarianism Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have equal conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of political equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio professional categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with different economic situations participate in the society, specifically whether they try to help to solve problems in the community if they ask help from government officials and etc. It also examines other factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election, and believe that politicians listen to the needs of people. Many studies on different countries have established that the greater economic status of the individuals corresponds to greater political participation. Political commitment is quite rigidly subordinates to the following logic: a certain social and economic position that evokes a sense of social and political competence generates a certain level of political participation. Understanding political participation presupposes the ability to understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
