In Quebec, the wine sector is based primarily on value added bottling and blending from imported
bulk wines. Thirty five small grower/estate wineries have also recently emerged in this province,
producing 100,000 bottles annually.
In the Maritimes, six small enterprises account for 13.5% of wine volume, while the two largest
companies in Canada produce the bulk of wine in that region.
The wine industry in Ontario and BC is closely linked to the grape growing sector and, as such, is
directly affected by provincial agricultural policies. In Ontario, the vintners negotiate annually with
the grape growers represented by their marketing board to establish grape prices. In BC, the grape
market is not regulated and growers and wineries contract privately with each other.
Wineries will normally take about 80% of the annual grape production, with much of the balance
going for juice or fresh fruit consumption. Annual grape purchases by wineries in Ontario and BC are
estimated at $75 million.
The industry is closely regulated (see Regulatory Factors section below). Wines, like other alcoholic
beverages, must be distributed and sold through provincial liquor control board outlets. Some
provinces permit wineries to sell their own wines in establishments which they operate. In Quebec,
wine sold in grocery stores must be bottled in the province.

Should An Investigator Influence Of Interrogation
Yes, an interrogation and investigator influence a suspect to tell the fact, sometimes to give
incriminating proof that will be use in a consequent action. Interrogations are usually conducted in
situations where there is not enough evidence to declare a confidence. In many cases, the suspect s
real guilt may not be 100% sure. If an investigator was required to be fully honest with a suspect, the
interrogation would hum like this: Ted, I am not sure you direct this offense and Ted not have enough
proof to act against you for it. So, I would like you to come clean to me so that we can criminal you
and send you to prison. Perceptibly, under this condition, no suspect would ever admit. Out of
necessity, as a result, interrogation relies at length on deceit and act. An researcher may inflate his self

Example Of Psychological Egoism
Win Ma
PH 211: Ethics
Rejecting Psychological Egoism
Morality tells us what actions we should and should not do. We can only prescribe what to do or not
do for actions possible for humans. Therefore, we need to answer what human nature is like. Our
nature will provide us the motivation for our actions. One answer is psychological egoism, which says
the motivation of all human actions is self interest. It stands implicitly in opposition to the principle of
altruism: human actions can be done for the sake of others. This is because if psychological egoism is
true, altruistic acts are egoistic acts. I believe psychological egoism is not a well supported position.
To prove this, I will show how three psychological egoism supporting arguments are unsound. I will
also propose an alternative description of human nature: Humans do not always act in self interest.
Rather, they sometimes act in self interest and sometimes act for the sake of others. The first pro
psychological egoism argument I will consider is Shafer Landau s Argument From Strongest Desires.
(Shafer Landau, 94)
1. Whenever you do something, you are motivated by your strongest desire
2. Whenever you are motivated by your strongest desire, you are pursuing self interest
3. Therefore, whenever you do something, you are pursuing your self interest
The argument s problem is the 2nd ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we insert misery, then we are looking at the principle in the context of the Argument From Avoiding
Misery. Psychological egoists do not specify misery has to be a certain way, but Landau s principle
lends itself to that interpretation because of how it is contained in particular actions. Misery being
described by bee stings means misery is avoiding physical pain. Not true, we can describe misery with
mental suffering from war trauma. Landau therefore commits a straw man. In addition he commits
hasty generalization, since he goes from particular to

Lincoln s Attempt To Support D Estaing
American forces in the south, between 5,000 and 7,000 men, were based at Charleston under the
command of General Benjamin Lincoln. Lincoln recognized that he would need assistance from the
French navy and army to retake Savannah. On September 3, he learned that the French forces under
the command of Admiral Comte d Estaing were en route to Savannah, bringing with them ships of the
line and 4,000 soldiers. On September 11, Lincoln marched out of Charleston with 2,000 Continentals
to link up with d Estaing. Arriving first, d Estaing began offensive operations to take the city. He
initially offered Prevost an opportunity to surrender, but Prevost demurred, hoping that reinforcements
would arrive. He was given twenty four hours. This reprieve would prove in the end to be pivotal, as
1,000 men arrived to support Prevost s force just as Lincoln arrived to support d Estaing. The Allied
forces, when fully assembled, numbered near 7,000. Defending Savannah was a force totaling 2,500
men. Faced with overwhelming odds, Prevost organized a solid defensive plan. ... Show more content

Lincoln reluctantly ceded de facto command to d Estaing, who had begun operations before Lincoln s
arrival. The French commander believed that a frontal assault against the British position would be
futile and instead proposed to bombard the city. Lincoln concurred, French cannons were removed
from their ships, and a five day cannonade began. However, Savannah bore the brunt of the artillery
assault while the defensive positions remained relatively untouched, so d Estaing eventually agreed to
the frontal assault in spite of objections by his officers. He worried that a protracted siege would take
too long and wanted to redeem his glory that had been tarnished at Newport, Rhode Island.
Additionally, hurricane season was moving in and the British fleet was still lurking somewhere off the

Definition of Alliterative Verse
Definition of Alliterative Verse
Old English literature encompasses writings in Anglo Saxon England during its conversion to
Christianity in the 7th century up until the Norman Conquest in 1066. The roots of Anglo Saxon
poetry were based on Germanic tradition that was mainly in the form of alliterative verse (Greenblatt).
When comparing to other forms of poetry, there are 6 key characteristics that define alliterative verse:
four beat lines, medial caesuras, enjambments, half line alliteration, kennings and litotes. In addition
to Beowulf and Caedmon s Hymn , examples will also be taken from my alliterative verse translation
of the nursery rhyme Little Jack Horner .

If there are two pairs of different alliterative sounds, each pair does not have to be in the same half
line. For example in line 5 from Beowulf, a wrecker of mead benches, rampaging among foes there is
repetition of both r and m sounds. In the first line of Caedmon s Hymn , Sing prayers, and sound
praises of (1), half line alliteration is seen in the s and p sounds. There are not pairs of half line
alliteration in Jack the Horner. However, in the last line there are three alliterative stress syllables that
are linked by the p sound, Gleefully pulling a purple plum .
A kenning is a metaphoric, two term or compound expression used in place of a name or noun (
kenning ). In Beowulf, the term whale road in line 10 is a kenning for the ocean. In Caedmon s Hymn
, Wonder Father also means God. In my poem, Santa s big day is meant to be a kenning for Christmas.
A litote is an understatement in which an affirmative is expressed by negating its opposite ( litote ). In
Beowulf one of many litotes is seen lines 43 44, they decked his body no less bountifully , where no
less just means more, so that his body was actually more bountifully decked (Heaney) In the first line
of my alliterative verse poem, I used a litote. Jack the Horner, not gigantic was he. Not gigantic is the
litote in that it describes Jack as little. Anglo Saxon alliterative verse is defined by its structuring of
stress

Sexism In Disney Fairytales
Introduction Disney fairytales have been a popular cartoon brand that is loved by children and young
adults for many decades. However, these fairytales usually have a constant theme where princesses
most of the time are shown to be the main characters or the center of the story. Disney cartoons have
the ability to inject ideologies into the brains of children due to their animation based and fantasy story
lined films. Disney fairytales and children folktales encountered most of the time provides their

Even though through adult eyes these cartoons might be viewed as a mere naïve entertainment
methods, they don t know that these cartoons are trying to feed children how men and women in

You bet. Preschoolers are like medieval philosophers: the text a book, a movie, a TV show is more
authoritative than the evidence of their own eyes. (para.7). These cartoons subtly communicate with
children in their own language, by trying to bring a fantasy to reality and that is why these depictions
seem to be engraved in their memories. Do Rozario (2004) also said, By 1959 and the release of
Sleeping Beauty, the three good fairies give up their magic wands for housework in order to protect
and conceal Princess Aurora from the evil fairy, Malificent (who has failed to consider that these three
might give up the convenience of magic to live in a peasant cottage). (para. 11). In the Sleeping
Beauty, all that children see is how a lady from a high social class status gets her life saved by
choosing to work as a house keeper for three fairies. It is rather confusing to understand the logic of
the storyline but for children, logic isn t what they are searching for in an entertaining

Obsessive Compulsive Eating Disorder Essay
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
One kind of anxiety disorder is obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). This disease can ruin a person s
life because it causes them to have repetitive thoughts and behaviors towards certain things. Life can
become very difficult because this way of thinking and acting is very difficult to overcome, especially
since the obsessions have no point and are stressful for the person. It begins to interfere with the
person s school, work, and/or home.
Obsessions are the unpleasant thoughts or impulses that cause the person with the disorder to have lots
of anxiety and edginess. The thoughts may include things such as perfect order of things in a house,
perfect hygiene, or the fear that they are going to hurt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People used to believe that OCD was caused by the experiences in the patient s childhood. For
example, parents putting unnecessary force on the child for a clean environment. Scientists have
learned that it is due to more than just childhood experiences. They have realized that the disorder is
caused by the environmental stresses, neurobiological factors, and even what the patient recognizes as
being right or wrong.
People with OCD show differences in brain activity compared to other people. They also have less
white matter in the brain than normal people. These results have been obtained using brain imaging
machines.
Victims of OCD may also have other diseases. Some have Tourette s syndrome. This is when the
person has movement spasms and vocal outbreaks. Others have impulses to pull out their hair and to
perfect their appearance. Yet others are afraid to catch a disease, even though doctors have reassured
them that there are no defects in their health.
Victims deal with their problem in different ways. Some try to block their obsessions so they do not
have to deal with their compulsions. They are able to hide their secret during the time they are in
school or work. Over the years their condition gets worse, and they are unable to control themselves.
By the time they get some professional help, they already have had the disease for some time. The
symptoms may last for years with some mild periods and some harsh

For this week, you need to find a case that deals with Due Process, the Equal Protection Clause or
Delegation.
Plessy v. Ferguson (1896)
What are the important and relevant faces of the case?
The Case is based upon The Equal Protection Clause, in which, this case occurred one hundred and
nineteen years ago, but it was very interesting as to see what has changed during the century. In 1890,
Louisiana State passed laws prohibited races to sit together on railroads; something in common with
segregation in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reflecting the common bias of the majority of the country at the time, Brown argued that If the civil
and political rights of both races be equal, one cannot be inferior to the other civilly or politically. If
one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot put them upon
the same plane. The Court declared the Louisiana law a reasonable exercise of the State s police
power, enacted for the promotion of the public good.
In the key passage of the opinion, the Court stated that segregation was legal and constitutional as
long as facilities were equal. Thus the separate but equal doctrine that would keep America divided
along racial lines for over half a century longer came into being.
Somewhat ironically, while Brown, a Northerner, justified the segregation of the races, Justice John
Marshall Harlan, a Southerner from Kentucky, made a lone, resounding, and prophetic dissent. The
Thirteenth Amendment...struck down the institution of slavery [and]...decreed universal civil freedom,
Harlan declared. Our Constitution is color blind and neither knows nor tolerates classes among
citizens. Harlan s dissent became the main theme of the unanimous decision of the Court in Brown v.
Board of Education in 1954.
No great national protest followed in the wake of the Plessy decision. Segregation was an

The Health Facility Tours During Austria
The health facility tours in Austria were conducted at two hospitals, Barmherzige Bruder in Salzburg
and tirol kliniken s central hospital in Innsbruck. Barmherzige Bruder is a hospital based in a
monastery. Tirol kliniken s central hospital is part of a larger hospital system serving the Tirol region
of Austria. Both hospitals resembled U.S. hospitals physically; but, both hospitals had a cleaner feel.
The hospitals were quieter than then ones I ve been in the U.S. Less people were in the common
spaces.
Like some of the U.S. s university based teaching hospitals, tirol kliniken s hospital in Innsbruck is
associated with a University. The University hospital had spacious patient rooms in the neurology
department and many rooms appeared empty. A pneumatic tube delivery system delivered mail and
other things to different department s including samples to the central lab. The emergency room was
set up with two distinct units. One unit handled injuries involving blood and did not have any rooms.
This unit triaged individuals behind curtains and moved the patient to the part of the hospital best
equipped to deal with their condition. The second unit handled all other illnesses and had six beds.
Finally, we were able to tour the heliport. Due to the rural and mountainous conditions, helicopters are
placed strategically in the Tirol region where accidents are likely to occur and other vehicles can t gain

Lennie Character Analysis
In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck depicts a realistic and dreary portrait of America in the 1930 s.
He illustrates a world where the American Dream is just an illusion. During the Great Depression
1930 s many people weren t as ambitious to even try to achieve their aspirations. However, this is not
the case for our protagonists George and Lennie. Two men with inverse personalities and appearances
strive to conquer their hopes under difficult circumstances. Tragically, moments away from achieving
their aspiration, Lennie accidentally ruins their chances by committing a horrendous act. George is
then left having to end Lennie s life to spare him of the aftermath. One may think Lennie is a villain
because he harmed someone. On the contrary, Lennie is a victim because he shows signs of having a
mental disorder (Most notably Autism), constantly gets manipulated, and is oblivious to the severity
death. Lennie s personality stands out from all the characters in the novella. He is soft, amiable, naive,
and submissive. Which is a very odd thing considering his peers portray strong male stereotypes.
Curly oozes pride, Slim maintains his reputation, Crooks and George incarcerate their anger, and
Candy conceals his grief. Although it is not certain, many readers speculate Lennie personality reflects
Autism, a serious mental disorder. While playing cards with Slim, George confesses, [H]e wants to
touch ever thing he likes. Just wants to feel it. (Page 41, Steinbeck) This statement

An Integration Center Of The Reflex Arc
An integration center in the reflex arc is a neuropathway that creates a reflex action to activating
neurons to skip the spinal cord and protect your brain. The nerve cells can be categorized by their
connections, structure, and neurotransmitters. The structural classification is depending on shape and
size of the cell body, its dendritic tree, axon length, and the nature of the connections it makes. The
neurons with one, two, or more than two neurites, are unipolar, bipolar, and multipolar respectively.
Most of neurons in vertebrate nervous systems are multipolar, but there are significant exceptions. For
illustration, bipolar neurons in the retina synapse with sensory neurons, and photoreceptors in the
dorsal root ganglion are explained as pseudo unipolar as they begin life as bipolar cells but their two
neurites fuse. The unipolar neurons dominate in invertebrates. Collaterals a small side branch, as of a
blood vessel or nerve. A neuronal pool is a group of interconnected neurons with specific functions. A
pool may be diffuse, involving neurons in several regions of the brain, or localized, with neurons
restricted to one specific location in the brain or spinal cord. However, the proper function of the
circuit of the stretch reflex also relies on convergence and divergence. A single sensory has multiple
branches that diverge and make synaptic connections with many individual motor neurons. Therefore,
when the muscle contracts as a result of the neurologist s tapper, it

Free Throw Shooting
Smart 2 Introduction: Free throw shooting is an art and skill which can affect the outcome of the
game. The true definition is a stand still uncontested shot that is placed fifteen feet or four and fifty
seven hundredths meters from the basketball hoop (Lowry,5/13/07). In a coach s mind free throws
should be automatic, a player should rarely miss a free throw. But as the game keeps evolving, the
fundamental of the free throw is being lost. There are plenty of things that go into the shot, first the
routine, then the balance, after that you look at the rim or sight your goal, and finally you shoot
(Timms, 10/6/08). If you are missing mechanics or balance it will throw off your shot, even changing
your routine can drop your free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A routine consists of dribbles, spins, and breaths, whatever someone s routine is it will only be
effective if they repeat it (Lowry,5/13/07). If you change your routine a couple times in one season it
can throw off your rhythm and drop your shot percentage. Rhythm follows routine because with the
routine comes rhythm. When the shooter repeats their routine for a long period of time the natural
rhythm flows into the shot and helps the percentage (McCormick, 2/10/10). Of all these three things,
none of them are the most important, one must repeat all of them to be considered a good free throw
shooter. Focusing during a free throw is one of the most key things you can do. With the game on the
line the shooter cannot be thinking about the pressure they must think about the shot and that s it.
When the crowd is yelling wildly the shooter must clear their mind and do what feels natural (Timms,
10/6/08). A free throw is shot from the same spot with no defensive pressure being the reason it is
called a FREE throw (McCormick, 2/10/10). When a free throw is missed it is the mechanics, rhythm,
or focus that went wrong. Coaches believe that free throws are inexcusable, even though there are
plenty of things that could go wrong that is why a true shooter repeats his routine and shot form every

Life Revealed In Teenage Wasteland By Anne Tyler
Modern day parenting is far from easy, today s parents face many obstacles and sometimes can be way
too hard on the child. Parents work to protect the children and help them succeed in life whether that
is at work or at school. The endless worrisome thoughts about one s child can cause the parents to
crack down on the child which ultimately pushes them away. Teenagers are known to be distant and
stuck in a different world most of the time due to hormone changes, and outside influences such as
friends. Parents struggle to hold a relationship with teenage children because the teen tends to want to
be alone more and sees the parent as over protective . In the short story, Teenage wasteland , the
author, Anne Tyler uses imagery and the development of the characters to demonstrate the
relationships between the family members. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

work to get Donny to improve and succeed. Donny s mother is actively trying to help him to better his
grades and get him back on the right track while the father has not done much. The lack of description
of the father son interaction within the household creates the sense that the father is very laid back and

The foreign relationship between Mexico and United States shares strong and vital. These two

The Slaughterhouse By Upton Sinclair And Fast Food Nation...
Over the span of one century, the world has had significant changes to society, such as advancements
in transportation, fashion and technology. However, not all industries have had significant
advancements in today s modern world. For example, the food industry has been lacking in the basic
necessities needed to sustain a safe, humane work environment, especially in the meat industry.
Excerpts from The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser elaborately
explain the horrible environments inside the factory. Schlosser mainly addresses how unfit the
conditions are for the workers, while Sinclair informs the reader of how the animals have been
neglected in such poor conditions before death. Despite their differing ... Show more content on

The fine was $480 for each man s death. (Schlosser). That any supervisor who loses a worker on the
job has to only pay a compensation fee of $480 is impossible to justify. One especially sad anecdote is
that of Kenny Dobbins, an uneducated man, who is repeatedly injured on the job, but keeps going
back until he is crippled and permanently disabled. This story speaks the truth of how meat packaging
corporations take their workers for granted by using them for everything they have, than discarding
them like a dirty rag. Corporations like slaughterhouses do not care about employees getting injured
because they know a majority of desperate immigrants would gladly have the morally degrading job.
Often, animals feelings and well being have been overlooked because society has instilled the idea
that animals have no emotions. The Jungle describes animals as being a worker s project that needs to
be completed within a given time limit. After hogs entered Durham s meat facility, they were chained
by the ankles and abruptly tossed around the room; the only audible sound was the high squeals and
low squeals, grunts, and wails of agony (Sinclair). The hogs anticipated in fear of what was to happen
next, bred to be slaughtered for the greater good of humankind. Sinclair describes the workers

Difference Between Aggregate Demand And The Price Level
Question (3)
A) What is Aggregate Demand?
Aggregate demand is the total amount that all consumers, businesses, government agencies, and
foreigners spend on final goods and services.
Aggregate demand is represented by the aggregate demand curve, and it describes the relationship
between price levels and the quantity of output that firms are willing to provide. Aggregate demand is
not a fixed number because it depends on the price level.
The relationship between aggregate demand and the price level normally is a negative relationship,
which creates a downward sloping aggregate demand curve.
B) Develop a model showing the importance and effects of Aggregate Demand on the overall
economy.
The model is aggregate supply/ aggregate demand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It stimulates the aggregate demand and thereby increases overall economic activities and growth.
Fiscal policy, as it will be explained below, could affect the whole economy through affecting the
aggregate demand. For example, increasing government spending lead to increase the aggregate
demand and thereby boost the entire economy (more details about this example and how the
expansionary and contractionary fiscal policy could affect aggregate demand and thereby affect the
overall economy are in the answers of sections d and e)
C) What is Fiscal Policy? What are the goals of Fiscal Policy? What are the tools of Fiscal Policy?
Fiscal policy is the government s plan for spending and taxation (which in the United States is set by
the Federal Reserve). Fiscal policy is helping to steer aggregate demand in the desired direction of the
economy because the increasing or decreasing in spending and taxes levels influences the economy.
Thus, the main goals of this policy are to help the government to manage inflation, employment and
the flow of money through the economic system.
There are two main tools of fiscal policy, taxes and spending. Taxes affect the economy by
determining the total money that the government has to spend and how much money each person has
to spend. Secondly, government spending as a tool for fiscal policy can be used to drive government
money to certain sectors that need an economic boost. These sectors who receives those dollars

Ernest Hemingway Feminism
Ernest Hemingway is a male author of fictional stories whose work has been controversial regarding
the way he portrays women. This paper will explain how feminist scholars view Ernest Hemingway s
fictional stories and why. The way female scholars view Hemingway s stories are important because
readers have criticized Hemingway for use stereotyping women in his work and others have enjoyed
his work. Therefore, it is important to learn about the different view female scholars have on his
fiction. Lawrence Broer and Gloria Holland of The University of Alabama argue that Hemingway has
an inability to portray women as independent, strong and sympathetic, therefore why should women
continue to read, teach and write about his work (Broer, Holland 7). In contrast Margaret Bauer
proposes that the problem critics have with Hemingway s female characters is not that they are one
dimensional, but that they are not the central characters (Bauer 126). Throughout this paper short
stories by Hemingway like Indian Camp, Hills Like White Elephants, The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell
to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Cat in Rain and The Last Good Country. Throughout the research
studies have shown that female scholars criticize Ernest Hemingway s stories passed on prior
knowledge to what they have heard about him. However, other scholars read Hemingway s work with
an open mind and make their interpretations afterward. The research has shown both negative and
positive responses to Hemingway s

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Heart Of Darkness
After two months from that day the steamer boat is repaired, therefore, Marlow left the creek to a bank
below Kurtzś station. He began his endless voyage to the inner station, which is considered the ¨the
heart of darkness¨. Marlow specifically pays close attention to the ¨impenetrable forest¨. Points out the
silence of the forest, does not bring peace but rather so mysterious intentions. Also, contemplated on
the Congo River as a representation of time and the further he went the more similar it seemed as if he
was traveling backward in time. He descriptively inspected the jungle a prehistoric world with revenge
aspects. In the passage, John Conrad employs syntax that creates an approach to mention civilization
and imperialistic relationships. Though punctuated mostly by the complex long declarations of
darkness and hopelessness, the simple sentences parallels how restless it is to be in a strange
surrounding, and full of disturbance. As Marlow writes sentences describing the jungle s isolation
sensation, maintaining long sentences till the end of the passage which builds the annoyance of being
in an unknown place. Marlow begins with the features describing the jungle surround then shifts to
what is in the jungle to how the jungle is an endless route. The passage is expressed through a
melancholy tone of unhappiness in the light, yet overshadowed and till the same lonesome felt. The
idea of the jungle being a hopeless place is repetitive but through different syntax. Finally, dashes
enter the dialogue towards the end of how a distinctive place leads him to forget his past and prior
knowledge awakens the unknown. The last sentence he claimed quietness only aligned with danger
and anything that lied ahead had mysterious.
From the beginning of the passage, in a complex sentence a description of Joining up the river in a

emperors ruled, the big trees were kings imperialism. Then in short sentences a description of the air
being foggy symbolizing darkness and unawareness to see. Mostly loose sentences, the main point is

Essay On Impact Of Poverty On Child Development
Poverty has a large impact on a child s development, the child will be affected in a number of different
ways involving their education, health, behaviour and their intellect. When a child lives in a household
where their basic needs are being compromised it is often due to the family having to use the
resources that they do have access to for other factors that contribute to the whole family. As the
family have limited amount of resources it is often found the children have less access to opportunities
than those who aren t living in poverty. This essay will explore the negative impacts of poverty on a
child s health within developing countries, there are two forms of poverty, relative and absolute,
however it is more common for absolute poverty to occur within these developing countries.
Malnutrition is commonly found to be associated with poverty, often it is due to the lack of income
into the household which restricts the family to the food products that they can buy. The food that the
family are able to afford are often low in essential nutrients and vitamins, these food products are
cheap to buy and easy to cook. Malnutrition is defined as the lack of consumption of nutrients which
then leads to further health problems. Being malnourished can impact a child s development,
including weight loss, growth issues and cognitive issues. Having the correct nutrition intake is
required within childhood to ensure that the child develops in the correct way, it is extremely

What Is D-Day In Canada
Juno was the landing area for the 3rd Canadian Division. The division was to assault the coast through
a line of small resort towns from Graye Sur Mer to St Aubin (Neillands Norman, 232). There were
different names for different sectors of the invasion. There was Mike Red and Mike Green to the west
side, and Nan Red , Nan Green , and Nan White to the east (Neillands Norman, 233). Landing on the
beach there was the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, the Regina Rifle Regiment, the Canadian Scottish
Regiment, the Queen s Own Rifles of Canada, the French Canadian Regiment de la Chaudiere and the
North Shore (Chartwell, 52). Now D Day, or some call it Juno Beach, is a defining moment and
played a big role for Canadians in the development of their future in military affairs. What makes it a
defining moment is that Canada succeeded in their objectives, Canada supported the mother country
and allies in this battle, and Canada fought the most in D Day. But for Canada that was no problem. ...

About a mile and a half up from where they were camped, she came to a spot where the river crossed
the road; what appeared to be a structure of some sort, maybe a covered bridge or something, was
visible on the other side of the channel. It could have been an out building from a farm forced into the
river by the force of so much rain falling at once...
Seeing the water over the road, Charity gauged the depth of the rising river, by marking a spot on the
structure with a tree on shore. From living along the Savannah, she knew that once the river crested, it
would eventually begin to recede. How long that took; depended on how much rain had fallen upriver.
She decided she would ride back up there later that afternoon to see how much higher the water had
risen, or hopefully, it would be receding by then.
Riding back to camp, she saw fresh tracks, where deer had crossed the road. She would come back
later and see if she could kill one. If so, it would supply them with meat for a long while if she could

Analyzing Online For Issues About Body Image
When researching online for issues about body image, one can definitely find articles concerning
young women. Of course, when hearing about body image issues, one can only think of anorexia,
obesity, and low self esteem. However, a body image problem is not just an issue affecting young
women; it s actually an issue that is also affecting young men. Over time, a growing number of young
men have been showing issues with their body image. This is mainly due to the way media portrays
men in television shows, movies, and advertisements. Because of this, it leads to low self esteem, peer

This makes a young man think that he isn t good enough for the standards that the media puts out. The
expectations that the media puts out about men become adopted into society s expectations. A personal
trainer did an experiment where he gained seventy pounds of weight and tried losing it all. He wanted
to know how his clients felt whenever he helped trained them to lose weight. This meant he had to

man s teenage years. Peers may look at a certain individual and tease them for their body weight. It
can be that the individual is skinny or fat that the teasing starts to happen. When bullied, this can cause

Framing A Bad Argument
Abortion, animal rights, border control, gun rights and same sex marriage are always heated
discussions amongst people. Whether people know all the facts or not I can guarantee most have very
strong perceptions and feelings on each of these. A significant thought to remember is that
argumentative essays are not always a disagreement. Occasionally, they merely support an idea or
topic some cannot be argued (Reinking and Von der Osten, 269). Framing the argument, providing
firm support, while remaining cautious of fallacies were the significant points in Chapter 16 of
Strategies of Successful Writing, in my opinion.
Framing the argument, essentially choosing a side of your argument and attempting to influence the
reader to believe the same as you. You must state your argument in a very clear and precise manner so
the reader has no reason to doubt you. After choosing a specific argument, researching the points to
help prove the assumptions will become an easier task. Until a decision on how to frame the argument
has been made, it seems impossible to attempt to convince others. You must first have all the evidence
to support your framing. I do not enjoy trying to push my beliefs onto others, we are all from different

persuade in an ethical way. Appealing to a crowd, seems to be a very popular way to persuade others.

The Tyranny Of White Majority Essay
The United States, even though considered the land of freedom, has been struggling with lingering
racism and discrimination throughout the 19th and 20th century. Democratic reform throughout the
century were implanted to eliminate the tyranny of the white majority Yet many scholars like
Tocqueville, Fredrick Harris and WEB DuBois have challenged these results. The reality is that the
tyranny of white majority has continued throughout the 18th to the 21st century resulting in a society
that has suppressed and constantly failed to integrate African American into the white society by
neglecting the race, using natural prejudice, race neutral policies, and laws that benefited whites more
than African Americans.
Even before the 13th amendment and emancipation of slaves, small reforms in the northern states
were being implemented to create a true free society. One would argue that these reforms were the
first steps of a liberal reform that would lead to the eventual equality amongst the two races but what
is forgotten is that even though reforms were passed the white majority had a natural prejudice.
Tocqueville explains what makes the natural prejudice was the disgrace the African American
ethnicity received by being forced as slaves. This slavery was based on race rather than being like
ancient slavery which had nothing to do the face of a person (PG 400). The African Americans who
were considered free during the that were still disgraced because as Tocqueville said free

Gene Modification Cons
A gene is a part of cell in a living thing that controls what their appearance and characteristic are.
Children obtain their genes from their parents. Therefore, their characteristic and appearance are gifts
from God. However, parents can modify their offspring s genes and decide their children s
characteristic and appearance beforehand. Consequently, this technology gets controversial.
Opponents of gene modification claim that modification leads to the idea that children are the product
which was built up by their parents (Sandel 6). On the contrary, proponents argue that this technology
makes our social divisions smaller by creating perfect offspring (Green 2). Most of the arguments
against gene modification are based on the idea of strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opponents of gene modification claim that modification limits our freedom (Sandel 1). In this
argument, Sandel points out two reasons. One point is those modifiers, especially parents, manage
people s future (Sandel 1). For example, if people have been provided gene which expresses athlete
talents, they have no choice to be musicians. Second point is that gene modification decreases our
future options (Sandel 1). In term of thinking that human life as journey, there are numerous paths to
travel, but gene modification may close of a couple paths. However, gene modification does not
violate our freedom because people can choose their future by their own will and freedom arguments
rely on strong determinism. People s future will be shaped by their own will. Therefore, Resnik and
Vorhaus point out that exerting control over a child s genotype does not give one despotic control to
shape their future according to one s will (6) For example, if people have genes that enhance an athlete
s talents, but they want to be musician, why not to be musician? The choice depends on people s will
and does not mean someone modified to be tall cannot play the piano well. Therefore, gene
modification may not restrict any options for their future. Freedom argument assumes that strong
genetic determinism. However, this strong genetic determinism hardly occurs in nature. Therefore,

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight Essay
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is a book written by; Sherman Alexie. In this book,
Alexie writes about a group of Native Americans who live on the Spokane Indian Reservation. As this
novel may be fiction, some of the stories that are portrayed in the text have some very real meaning
the them. These Native Americans endure lots of heartache and tragedy in this book as they are faced
with problems like alcoholism, car accidents, loss of loved one and houses burning. In the face of
adversity, many of these Native Americans in this story carry on with their lives and become Warriors
. The search for warriors in this publication has many themes that come along with it such as;
Resilience and Forgiveness. This desire of being a warrior drives characters in this book to stand out
and be strong leaders. This is needed because many Native Americans on the reservation needs a
warrior to stand up and fight for them. Currently, a warrior does not have the same meaning as it did
centuries ago. When looking for a warrior we will not find a gladiator or Spartan walking the streets.
What we will find is a person who is strong and resilient enough to carry on and care for his own
family or loved ones around them. A warrior is possible to find today, just many are looking in the
wrong places as this novel give clarity to what a true warrior is. All through Sherman Alexies writing,

Understanding Email Threats
Time is a scare resource. Everyday people make decisions on how to allocate the finite amount of
minutes they have during day. In the business world, the waste of time is a luxury organizations can
seldom afford. Checking emails, answering phone calls, and other daily tasks, become a hassle when
the majority of these activities interrupt the workflow of a person.
The use of email adds another layer of complexity for organization. Email has become a de facto
medium to spread malware, propagate scams, and attack a system. The stories of people being
scammed via emails are no longer urban legends. Businesses must do everything they can to minimize
their exposure to threats.
Understanding Email Threats Spam and Phishing are the two major types of email attacks.
Organizations need to clearly understand what these terms mean in order to assess their impact and
minimize their spread. Spam is unsolicited commercial e mail. Phishing, on the other hand, uses
legitimately looking emails that trick the receiver into giving out sensitive information (Boyle Panko,
2015). Spam is the annoying email promising the reader to get rich, skinny, prettier etc. Most people

following characteristics; diseases that have recently been discovered, undergone recent evolutionary
changes, entered the human population for the first time or in a new area previously unaffected by the
disease (Smith et al.2004). The term Global change addresses recent changes in climate and climate
variability, growth of the human population, percentile of total population living in urbanized areas,
safe water accessibility and storage, plus trade and travel. Due to human activity these changes are

These are areas in which do not have the capacity to store and distribute water safely, and the
appropriate management systems for wastewater drainage, providing rich breeding environments for
mosquitoes (Sutherst 2004). The latest outbreaks of west nile fever in North America and the
emergence of bluetongue virus in Northern Europe reiterate the risk of pathogens being introduced
into foreign areas previously unaffected, as a result of modern societies interconnectivity a rapidly
advancing import and export links. The transportation of used tires globally, provides a high
probability of importing mosquito vectors into areas outside their geographic range, such as the Aedes
Aegypti (Medlock et al. 2012). The A. Aegypti species, natural habitat lies throughout tropical regions
of America, Asia and Africa as well as northern Australia and some of the islands situated within the
Indian ocean (Soumahoro et al. 2012). The mosquito seeks a blood host most actively during the hours
of the day and is most commonly found living in domestic habitats, in non biodegradable containers,
tires and other household plastics that hold water. It is in those areas the A. Aegypti mates, lays its
eggs and feeds (Troncoso 2016). A. Aegypti has been suggested as a vector of Zika Virus disease
(Medlock et al. 2012), exemplifying a high risk for global transmission of the disease (Troncoso
2016). Related to

In Ontario, the vintners negotiate annually with the grape growers represented by their marketing board to establish grape prices. Should An Investigator Influence Of Interrogation Yes, an interrogation and investigator influence a suspect to tell the fact, sometimes to give incriminating proof that will be use in a consequent action. Interrogations are usually conducted in situations where there is not enough evidence to declare a confidence. In many cases, the suspect s real guilt may not be 100% sure. If an investigator was required to be fully honest with a suspect, the interrogation would hum like this: Ted, I am not sure you direct this offense and Ted not have enough proof to act against you for it. • 5. Example Of Psychological Egoism Win Ma PH 211: Ethics Rejecting Psychological Egoism Morality tells us what actions we should and should not do. We can only prescribe what to do or not do for actions possible for humans. Therefore, we need to answer what human nature is like. Our nature will provide us the motivation for our actions. One answer is psychological egoism, which says the motivation of all human actions is self interest. It stands implicitly in opposition to the principle of altruism: human actions can be done for the sake of others. This is because if psychological egoism is true, altruistic acts are egoistic acts. I believe psychological egoism is not a well supported position. To prove this, I will show how three psychological egoism supporting arguments are unsound. I will also propose an alternative description of human nature: Humans do not always act in self interest. Rather, they sometimes act in self interest and sometimes act for the sake of others. The first pro psychological egoism argument I will consider is Shafer Landau s Argument From Strongest Desires. (Shafer Landau, 94) 1. Whenever you do something, you are motivated by your strongest desire 2. Whenever you are motivated by your strongest desire, you are pursuing self interest 3. Therefore, whenever you do something, you are pursuing your self interest The argument s problem is the 2nd ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychological egoists do not specify misery has to be a certain way, but Landau s principle lends itself to that interpretation because of how it is contained in particular actions. Lincoln recognized that he would need assistance from the French navy and army to retake Savannah. On September 3, he learned that the French forces under the command of Admiral Comte d Estaing were en route to Savannah, bringing with them ships of the line and 4,000 soldiers. On September 11, Lincoln marched out of Charleston with 2,000 Continentals to link up with d Estaing. Arriving first, d Estaing began offensive operations to take the city. He initially offered Prevost an opportunity to surrender, but Prevost demurred, hoping that reinforcements would arrive. He was given twenty four hours. This reprieve would prove in the end to be pivotal, as 1,000 men arrived to support Prevost s force just as Lincoln arrived to support d Estaing. The Allied forces, when fully assembled, numbered near 7,000. Defending Savannah was a force totaling 2,500 men. Faced with overwhelming odds, Prevost organized a solid defensive plan. ... The French commander believed that a frontal assault against the British position would be futile and instead proposed to bombard the city. Lincoln concurred, French cannons were removed from their ships, and a five day cannonade began. However, Savannah bore the brunt of the artillery assault while the defensive positions remained relatively untouched, so d Estaing eventually agreed to the frontal assault in spite of objections by his officers. He worried that a protracted siege would take too long and wanted to redeem his glory that had been tarnished at Newport, Rhode Island. • 7. Definition of Alliterative Verse Definition of Alliterative Verse Old English literature encompasses writings in Anglo Saxon England during its conversion to Christianity in the 7th century up until the Norman Conquest in 1066. The roots of Anglo Saxon poetry were based on Germanic tradition that was mainly in the form of alliterative verse (Greenblatt). When comparing to other forms of poetry, there are 6 key characteristics that define alliterative verse: four beat lines, medial caesuras, enjambments, half line alliteration, kennings and litotes. In addition to Beowulf and Caedmon s Hymn , examples will also be taken from my alliterative verse translation of the nursery rhyme Little Jack Horner . If there are two pairs of different alliterative sounds, each pair does not have to be in the same half line. For example in line 5 from Beowulf, a wrecker of mead benches, rampaging among foes there is repetition of both r and m sounds. In the first line of Caedmon s Hymn , Sing prayers, and sound praises of (1), half line alliteration is seen in the s and p sounds. There are not pairs of half line alliteration in Jack the Horner. However, in the last line there are three alliterative stress syllables that are linked by the p sound, Gleefully pulling a purple plum . A kenning is a metaphoric, two term or compound expression used in place of a name or noun ( kenning ). In Beowulf, the term whale road in line 10 is a kenning for the ocean. In Caedmon s Hymn , Wonder Father also means God. In my poem, Santa s big day is meant to be a kenning for Christmas. A litote is an understatement in which an affirmative is expressed by negating its opposite ( litote ). In Beowulf one of many litotes is seen lines 43 44, they decked his body no less bountifully , where no less just means more, so that his body was actually more bountifully decked (Heaney) In the first line of my alliterative verse poem, I used a litote. Jack the Horner, not gigantic was he. Not gigantic is the litote in that it describes Jack as little. Anglo Saxon alliterative verse is defined by its structuring of stress ... These results have been obtained using brain imaging machines. Victims of OCD may also have other diseases. Some have Tourette s syndrome. This is when the person has movement spasms and vocal outbreaks. Others have impulses to pull out their hair and to perfect their appearance. Yet others are afraid to catch a disease, even though doctors have reassured them that there are no defects in their health. Victims deal with their problem in different ways. Some try to block their obsessions so they do not have to deal with their compulsions. They are able to hide their secret during the time they are in school or work. The Case is based upon The Equal Protection Clause, in which, this case occurred one hundred and nineteen years ago, but it was very interesting as to see what has changed during the century. Reflecting the common bias of the majority of the country at the time, Brown argued that If the civil and political rights of both races be equal, one cannot be inferior to the other civilly or politically. If one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot put them upon the same plane. The Court declared the Louisiana law a reasonable exercise of the State s police power, enacted for the promotion of the public good. In the key passage of the opinion, the Court stated that segregation was legal and constitutional as long as facilities were equal. Thus the separate but equal doctrine that would keep America divided along racial lines for over half a century longer came into being. Somewhat ironically, while Brown, a Northerner, justified the segregation of the races, Justice John Marshall Harlan, a Southerner from Kentucky, made a lone, resounding, and prophetic dissent. The Thirteenth Amendment...struck down the institution of slavery [and]...decreed universal civil freedom, Harlan declared. Our Constitution is color blind and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens. Harlan s dissent became the main theme of the unanimous decision of the Court in Brown v. Anne and Patricia have many similarities, but they also contrast in some ways too. My goal is to show how they are similar and how they re also different. The Health Facility Tours During Austria The health facility tours in Austria were conducted at two hospitals, Barmherzige Bruder in Salzburg and tirol kliniken s central hospital in Innsbruck. Barmherzige Bruder is a hospital based in a monastery. Tirol kliniken s central hospital is part of a larger hospital system serving the Tirol region of Austria. Both hospitals resembled U.S. hospitals physically; but, both hospitals had a cleaner feel. The hospitals were quieter than then ones I ve been in the U.S. Less people were in the common spaces. Like some of the U.S. s university based teaching hospitals, tirol kliniken s hospital in Innsbruck is associated with a University. The University hospital had spacious patient rooms in the neurology department and many rooms appeared empty. A pneumatic tube delivery system delivered mail and other things to different department s including samples to the central lab. The emergency room was set up with two distinct units. One unit handled injuries involving blood and did not have any rooms. This unit triaged individuals behind curtains and moved the patient to the part of the hospital best equipped to deal with their condition. The second unit handled all other illnesses and had six beds. Finally, we were able to tour the heliport. • 14. Lennie Character Analysis In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck depicts a realistic and dreary portrait of America in the 1930 s. He illustrates a world where the American Dream is just an illusion. During the Great Depression 1930 s many people weren t as ambitious to even try to achieve their aspirations. However, this is not the case for our protagonists George and Lennie. Two men with inverse personalities and appearances strive to conquer their hopes under difficult circumstances. Tragically, moments away from achieving their aspiration, Lennie accidentally ruins their chances by committing a horrendous act. George is then left having to end Lennie s life to spare him of the aftermath. One may think Lennie is a villain because he harmed someone. On the contrary, Lennie is a victim because he shows signs of having a mental disorder (Most notably Autism), constantly gets manipulated, and is oblivious to the severity death. Lennie s personality stands out from all the characters in the novella. He is soft, amiable, naive, and submissive. Which is a very odd thing considering his peers portray strong male stereotypes. Curly oozes pride, Slim maintains his reputation, Crooks and George incarcerate their anger, and Candy conceals his grief. Although it is not certain, many readers speculate Lennie personality reflects Autism, a serious mental disorder. While playing cards with Slim, George confesses, [H]e wants to touch ever thing he likes. Just wants to feel it. (Page 41, Steinbeck) This statement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. An Integration Center Of The Reflex Arc An integration center in the reflex arc is a neuropathway that creates a reflex action to activating neurons to skip the spinal cord and protect your brain. The nerve cells can be categorized by their connections, structure, and neurotransmitters. The structural classification is depending on shape and size of the cell body, its dendritic tree, axon length, and the nature of the connections it makes. The neurons with one, two, or more than two neurites, are unipolar, bipolar, and multipolar respectively. Most of neurons in vertebrate nervous systems are multipolar, but there are significant exceptions. For illustration, bipolar neurons in the retina synapse with sensory neurons, and photoreceptors in the dorsal root ganglion are explained as pseudo unipolar as they begin life as bipolar cells but their two neurites fuse. The unipolar neurons dominate in invertebrates. Collaterals a small side branch, as of a blood vessel or nerve. A neuronal pool is a group of interconnected neurons with specific functions. A pool may be diffuse, involving neurons in several regions of the brain, or localized, with neurons restricted to one specific location in the brain or spinal cord. However, the proper function of the circuit of the stretch reflex also relies on convergence and divergence. A single sensory has multiple branches that diverge and make synaptic connections with many individual motor neurons. Therefore, when the muscle contracts as a result of the neurologist s tapper, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Free Throw Shooting Smart 2 Introduction: Free throw shooting is an art and skill which can affect the outcome of the game. The true definition is a stand still uncontested shot that is placed fifteen feet or four and fifty seven hundredths meters from the basketball hoop (Lowry,5/13/07). In a coach s mind free throws should be automatic, a player should rarely miss a free throw. But as the game keeps evolving, the fundamental of the free throw is being lost. There are plenty of things that go into the shot, first the routine, then the balance, after that you look at the rim or sight your goal, and finally you shoot (Timms, 10/6/08). If you are missing mechanics or balance it will throw off your shot, even changing your routine can drop your free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A routine consists of dribbles, spins, and breaths, whatever someone s routine is it will only be effective if they repeat it (Lowry,5/13/07). If you change your routine a couple times in one season it can throw off your rhythm and drop your shot percentage. Rhythm follows routine because with the routine comes rhythm. When the shooter repeats their routine for a long period of time the natural rhythm flows into the shot and helps the percentage (McCormick, 2/10/10). Of all these three things, none of them are the most important, one must repeat all of them to be considered a good free throw shooter. Focusing during a free throw is one of the most key things you can do. With the game on the line the shooter cannot be thinking about the pressure they must think about the shot and that s it. When the crowd is yelling wildly the shooter must clear their mind and do what feels natural (Timms, 10/6/08). A free throw is shot from the same spot with no defensive pressure being the reason it is called a FREE throw (McCormick, 2/10/10). When a free throw is missed it is the mechanics, rhythm, or focus that went wrong. Coaches believe that free throws are inexcusable, even though there are plenty of things that could go wrong that is why a true shooter repeats his routine and shot form every ... Over the span of one century, the world has had significant changes to society, such as advancements in transportation, fashion and technology. However, not all industries have had significant advancements in today s modern world. For example, the food industry has been lacking in the basic necessities needed to sustain a safe, humane work environment, especially in the meat industry. Excerpts from The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser elaborately explain the horrible environments inside the factory. This story speaks the truth of how meat packaging corporations take their workers for granted by using them for everything they have, than discarding them like a dirty rag. Corporations like slaughterhouses do not care about employees getting injured because they know a majority of desperate immigrants would gladly have the morally degrading job. Aggregate demand is the total amount that all consumers, businesses, government agencies, and foreigners spend on final goods and services. Aggregate demand is represented by the aggregate demand curve, and it describes the relationship between price levels and the quantity of output that firms are willing to provide. Aggregate demand is not a fixed number because it depends on the price level. What are the goals of Fiscal Policy? What are the tools of Fiscal Policy? Fiscal policy is the government s plan for spending and taxation (which in the United States is set by the Federal Reserve). Fiscal policy is helping to steer aggregate demand in the desired direction of the economy because the increasing or decreasing in spending and taxes levels influences the economy. Thus, the main goals of this policy are to help the government to manage inflation, employment and the flow of money through the economic system. The way female scholars view Hemingway s stories are important because readers have criticized Hemingway for use stereotyping women in his work and others have enjoyed his work. Therefore, it is important to learn about the different view female scholars have on his fiction. Lawrence Broer and Gloria Holland of The University of Alabama argue that Hemingway has an inability to portray women as independent, strong and sympathetic, therefore why should women continue to read, teach and write about his work (Broer, Holland 7). In contrast Margaret Bauer proposes that the problem critics have with Hemingway s female characters is not that they are one dimensional, but that they are not the central characters (Bauer 126). He had noticed how everyone looked at him and the food he ate, and had a disgusted look on their face. According to Drew Manning, it was an emotional struggle for him when doing the experiment. Another way a young man s self esteem can be lowered is by being bullied about body weight or depression. Bullying and depression would usually happen mostly in a young man s teenage years. Peers may look at a certain individual and tease them for their body weight. It can be that the individual is skinny or fat that the teasing starts to happen. When bullied, this can cause the certain individual to fall into depression which lowers the self esteem more. This can cause the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Framing A Bad Argument Abortion, animal rights, border control, gun rights and same sex marriage are always heated discussions amongst people. Whether people know all the facts or not I can guarantee most have very strong perceptions and feelings on each of these. A significant thought to remember is that argumentative essays are not always a disagreement. Occasionally, they merely support an idea or topic some cannot be argued (Reinking and Von der Osten, 269). Framing the argument, providing firm support, while remaining cautious of fallacies were the significant points in Chapter 16 of Strategies of Successful Writing, in my opinion. Framing the argument, essentially choosing a side of your argument and attempting to influence the reader to believe the same as you. You must state your argument in a very clear and precise manner so the reader has no reason to doubt you. After choosing a specific argument, researching the points to help prove the assumptions will become an easier task. Until a decision on how to frame the argument has been made, it seems impossible to attempt to convince others. You must first have all the evidence to support your framing. I do not enjoy trying to push my beliefs onto others, we are all from different walks of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lacking the information from both sides of an argument will not persuade the audience in your favor. Stereotyping, a worldwide struggle, must be avoided in order to persuade in an ethical way. Appealing to a crowd, seems to be a very popular way to persuade others. In our presidential debates, so many important topics are left on the sidelines while both nominees simply attempt to appeal to the crowds. • 35. The Tyranny Of White Majority Essay The United States, even though considered the land of freedom, has been struggling with lingering racism and discrimination throughout the 19th and 20th century. Democratic reform throughout the century were implanted to eliminate the tyranny of the white majority Yet many scholars like Tocqueville, Fredrick Harris and WEB DuBois have challenged these results. The reality is that the tyranny of white majority has continued throughout the 18th to the 21st century resulting in a society that has suppressed and constantly failed to integrate African American into the white society by neglecting the race, using natural prejudice, race neutral policies, and laws that benefited whites more than African Americans. Even before the 13th amendment and emancipation of slaves, small reforms in the northern states were being implemented to create a true free society. One would argue that these reforms were the first steps of a liberal reform that would lead to the eventual equality amongst the two races but what is forgotten is that even though reforms were passed the white majority had a natural prejudice. Tocqueville explains what makes the natural prejudice was the disgrace the African American ethnicity received by being forced as slaves. This slavery was based on race rather than being like ancient slavery which had nothing to do the face of a person (PG 400). The African Americans who were considered free during the that were still disgraced because as Tocqueville said free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Gene Modification Cons A gene is a part of cell in a living thing that controls what their appearance and characteristic are. Children obtain their genes from their parents. Therefore, their characteristic and appearance are gifts from God. However, parents can modify their offspring s genes and decide their children s characteristic and appearance beforehand. Consequently, this technology gets controversial. Opponents of gene modification claim that modification leads to the idea that children are the product which was built up by their parents (Sandel 6). On the contrary, proponents argue that this technology makes our social divisions smaller by creating perfect offspring (Green 2). Most of the arguments against gene modification are based on the idea of strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Opponents of gene modification claim that modification limits our freedom (Sandel 1). In this argument, Sandel points out two reasons. One point is those modifiers, especially parents, manage people s future (Sandel 1). For example, if people have been provided gene which expresses athlete talents, they have no choice to be musicians. Second point is that gene modification decreases our future options (Sandel 1). In term of thinking that human life as journey, there are numerous paths to travel, but gene modification may close of a couple paths. However, gene modification does not violate our freedom because people can choose their future by their own will and freedom arguments rely on strong determinism. People s future will be shaped by their own will. Therefore, Resnik and Vorhaus point out that exerting control over a child s genotype does not give one despotic control to shape their future according to one s will (6) For example, if people have genes that enhance an athlete s talents, but they want to be musician, why not to be musician? The choice depends on people s will and does not mean someone modified to be tall cannot play the piano well. Therefore, gene modification may not restrict any options for their future. Freedom argument assumes that strong genetic determinism. However, this strong genetic determinism hardly occurs in nature. Therefore, freedom arguments about gene ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this book, Alexie writes about a group of Native Americans who live on the Spokane Indian Reservation. As this novel may be fiction, some of the stories that are portrayed in the text have some very real meaning the them. These Native Americans endure lots of heartache and tragedy in this book as they are faced with problems like alcoholism, car accidents, loss of loved one and houses burning. In the face of adversity, many of these Native Americans in this story carry on with their lives and become Warriors . The search for warriors in this publication has many themes that come along with it such as; Resilience and Forgiveness. This desire of being a warrior drives characters in this book to stand out and be strong leaders. This is needed because many Native Americans on the reservation needs a warrior to stand up and fight for them. Currently, a warrior does not have the same meaning as it did centuries ago. When looking for a warrior we will not find a gladiator or Spartan walking the streets. What we will find is a person who is strong and resilient enough to carry on and care for his own family or loved ones around them. A warrior is possible to find today, just many are looking in the wrong places as this novel give clarity to what a true warrior is. In the business world, the waste of time is a luxury organizations can seldom afford. Checking emails, answering phone calls, and other daily tasks, become a hassle when the majority of these activities interrupt the workflow of a person. The use of email adds another layer of complexity for organization. Email has become a de facto medium to spread malware, propagate scams, and attack a system. The stories of people being scammed via emails are no longer urban legends. Businesses must do everything they can to minimize their exposure to threats. Understanding Email Threats Spam and Phishing are the two major types of email attacks. Organizations need to clearly understand what these terms mean in order to assess their impact and minimize their spread. Spam is unsolicited commercial e mail. Phishing, on the other hand, uses legitimately looking emails that trick the receiver into giving out sensitive information (Boyle Panko, 2015). Spam is the annoying email promising the reader to get rich, skinny, prettier etc. Most people are familiar with the Nigerian scam where a prince or oil tycoon wants to give up his fortune to the lucky ... The transportation of used tires globally, provides a high probability of importing mosquito vectors into areas outside their geographic range, such as the Aedes Aegypti (Medlock et al. 2012). The A.
