Blue Ocean Research Paper
The sun glares at me, burning me even more as I look out onto the ocean. The water looks like a
blanket of diamonds, making me grin easily. Thinking of the treasure out there, my toes curl into the
sand, feeling the rough texture prod me even more. My tanned, muscled arm wraps around the smooth
surface of my white surfboard, giving me a rush of adrenaline for what is to come.
I jog towards the ocean, my heart thumping faster and faster as I get closer. The first splash of water
hits me, a cold rush enlivening my whole body. I thrust my joy against the weight of the sea, and
climb on. My wetsuit clad legs dangle in the clear blue water, as I squint at what s in front of me,
looking for the perfect wave.
I start paddling, my fingers brushing

Coli And The General Mills Outbreak Essay
Introduction to E. Coli and the General Mills Outbreak.
After reports of foodborne illnesses were observed from December 21, 2015 to September 5, 2016, the
FDA initiated investigations which led to a trace back to the source of the outbreak which were
various flours manufactured by General Mills. After the trace back, in May 2016, General Mills led a
voluntary recall of its flour due to the presence of pathogens E. coli O121 and E. coli O26.
E. coli O121 and O26 are toxin producing Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) that are gram
negative and rod shaped as can be seen in figure 1 below. Although most E. coli are harmless and are
found naturally in the gastrointestinal tracts of mammals, however, E. coli O121 and O26 are
pathogenic, meaning they can cause illness.
Figure 1: Microbial Structure of a general E. coli bacteria.
According to the bad bug book, the incubation period for these pathogens range from 2 to 8 days after
consumption of the contaminated product. After consumption, symptoms such as diarrhea and
abdominal cramps develop which are often overcome by healthy adults within a week. However, the
most susceptible and vulnerable of the population, immunocompromised people, may experience
more severe consequences such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
In this particular case, due to the nature of the product, the long shelf life of flour and the tendency for
consumers to store the product for long periods before consumption, it is most likely that

Mental, Physical And Body Aspects
Human behavior has been analyzed over time, along with conditions that have been put into
perspective, about mental, physical and body aspects. These aspects of a human being are very
important for normal functioning of a person in society. When one s mental thought process is
affected, proper reasoning is not possible, and in turn the behavior becomes erratic. One such
condition that is directly connected to this mental situation is psychosis. Apart from affecting the
mental condition, it also affects the sensory and cognitive abilities.
Psychosis is defined as a disorder that causes one to have experiences that are out of touch with
reality. According to Von (2010), this is not a disease, but just a clear symptom of a mental illness.
Psychotic people have a tendency to have untrue thoughts, or are deluded and they have
hallucinations. Von (2010) goes on to explain that these symptoms are uniquely divided into positive
and negative results. Different psychotic disorders are categorized on the basis of the duration,
bizarreness of the delusions and the intensity of mania or depression. Non affective psychosis tends to
have negative symptoms, longer duration and bizarre delusions, while affective psychosis has fewer
negative symptoms that are related to bipolar disorder (Von, 2010).
A mental health professional can only recognize psychosis in a client by observing major changes in
their behavior. These changes are such as the abrupt loss of interest in activities that one

Tax Exemptions in America
Decades ago, state and federal legislatures began offering tax exemptions, including exemptions from
property tax, for nonprofit institutions that provide charitable services to communities. Nonprofit
hospitals that qualify for federal tax exemption under Internal Revenue Code §501(c)(3) are not
guaranteed state charitable tax exemptions. A hospital must provide some amount of charity in order
to be granted a state tax exemption, however historical statues have failed to quantify what amount of
charity is sufficient to meet the charitable purpose exemption . In recent times, nonprofit hospitals
repeatedly have to defend the amount of charity and benefit they provide to the community to
maintain their state property tax exempt status. There has been a recent, notable case where a hospital
lost its property tax exemption. In the case of Provena Covenant Medical Center V. Illinois
Department of Revenue, the Illinois Supreme Court held that PCMC does not provide enough charity
care to qualify for tax exemptions provided for nonprofit organizations that provide charity care .
Nonprofit hospitals are among the largest landowners in many communities, in the US, billions of
dollars in property is owned by nonprofit hospitals . Most hospitals would owe millions in taxes if
exempt properties were taxed. This report will examine the Illinois Supreme court decision in Provena
Covenant Medical Center v. Illinois Department of Revenue, Case No. 107328, and analyze the courts

Why Is The Use Comradery And Authority In Ordinary Men
As with all historical analysis, it s important to preserve the agency of those who were involved. In
Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning, the argument is posed that due to the complexities of choice
in the Nazi regime, the men involved in the mass murder of the Jewish population did so due to a
perceived inability to liberate oneself. While the circumstances surrounding the men of Reserve Police
Battalion 101 were often constrictive, these men actively served the Nazi regime and lead to the
murder of thousands of people. Inside of the Nazi administration, there were many deep and pervasive
means of making defection and refusal to seem unreachable. Two of the ways most discussed by
Christopher Browning was the use comradery and authority to keep men complicit ... Show more

Christopher Browning cites this as a major reason for compliance in the Police Battalion, where the
refusal to follow orders could lead to repercussion from peers. In some instances, a refusal to follow
orders could be interpreted as being oneself to be above the orders given, therefore better than those
who had complied (CITATION). To refuse orders simply pushed the one person s workload onto the
rest of the group, meaning that they would endure what one was too weak to handle. This sense of
enduring the impossible also was apart of the comradery of the battalion. Inside of this tightly knit
group was also the idea that those who did endure the massacres and murder were stronger and more
manly than those who faltered, reinforcing that behavior to be desirable. (185). An example of this
behavior can be seen in some of the specific violence against women executed outside of orders, such
as Lieutenant Peters who would get drunk, sneak into Jewish homes and assault women (154). This
sort of behavior is grown out of a situation in which violence and heartlessness is the celebrated

The Woman Of Black By Susan Hill
On the twenty sixth of February 2014 our drama class travelled to The Fortune Theatre situated in
London to see the exhilarating adaptation of the thriller fiction novel The Woman In Black written by
Susan Hill that was adapted into a stage play by Stephen Mallatratt. The drama arose from many
sources and routes particularly the production that was involved.
The Fortune Theatre is a very intimate auditorium, assembling the play to become have a more
excavating effect, and the audience to become more involved with the performance.
Interestingly, The Women In Black is now the second longest running play in the West End. It has
been running at The Fortune Theatre since February 1989 one can effortlessly notify that the
production is exceedingly popular and innovative due to these given statuses. It is indisputably one of
the most bloodcurdling ghost stories relentlessly told on stage.
The Woman In Black was played by an uncredited actress, thus instigating that the play is performed
by only two actors: Arthur Kipps and The Actor who retells Kipps story. Furthermore, The Woman
may have not been listed in the programme because of the extra effect that she will enhance when she
appears on the stage to frighten the audience.
Before I saw the play, I was very sceptical about the drama as I had expected it to be predictably
monotonous as I could not interpret how the production could make a live performance to be
perceived as an alluring thriller. I had not assumed that

Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne
Author Note:
This paper was prepared for PPOL V371, Section 01, Spring 2016, taught by Professor Aitalieva.
Abstract
The main purpose of this research is to give further knowledge about the Temporary Assistance for
Needy Families Program offered in the United States (TANF). With looking at the history of the
program, it allows the reader to get an improved understanding of why the need for the program was
developed, and have an understanding at which direction the program is going to be going. The
research will share the environments of the current policy, effectiveness and efficiency, and offer some
possible policy alternatives that will either benefit the program or make it more difficult to allocate the
proper funding in order to continue to help low income families in need.
Policy Description
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program (TANF) was created to help and provide cash
assistance and supportive services to help assist families that have children under the age of 18,
including pregnant women. The assistance that is given to the individual or families allows the
financial assistance to help pay for utilities, food, and shelter. Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families Program (TANF) is administered by OFA, which is Office of Family Assistance. TANF is a
time limited program that one may only receive case

An Age Of Political Correctness Is All The Rage And...
In an age where political correctness is all the rage and conservative values are synonyms with
discrimination it is not surprising that the principles by which our great nation was built on are the
first to be tossed aside. We see an increasing number of left
wing policies put into play with almost
unanimous support from the media. These policies are masked with intent to bring our country
together but generally end up creating even larger division. This is made ever present in the repeal of
the military s Don t Ask Don t Tell act. The repel of Don t Ask Don t Tell has more Don t Ask Don t
Tell was a law passed by President Bill Clinton in 1993. This widely supported law required gay
military personal to refrain from mentioning, discussing, or implying their sexual preferences or
orientation in any public forum or platform. The law also restricted officers in command positions
from questioning any serviceman or servicewoman of having homosexual beliefs or tenancies. Retired
veteran and senator John McCain brings up many valid points when he states his belief in the
necessity of law by saying, This successful policy has been in effect for over 15 years, and it is well
understood and predominantly supported by our military at all levels. We have the best trained, best
equipped, and most professional force in the history of our country, and the men and women in
uniform are performing heroically in two wars. At a time when our Armed Forces are fighting

Genome editing of germ line cells using CRISPR/Cas9 system
Recent studies suggest that genome editing of germ line cells is an effective strategy for mutated gene
correction in sperms and oocytes for the inhibition of onset of inherited disorder. The first time, germ
line genome editing in human by CRISPR/Cas9 system , was carried out to correct mutation of HBB
(Beta globin) gene in zygote of β thalassemia patients by homologous DNA recombination (HDR)
[80, 81]. Embryonic genome editing utilized in the treatment of such monogenic diseases prior to birth

Because PGD usually is carried out by gametes prepared from parents. But parents who is confirmed
by PGD to have a high risk of transmition of inherited genetic mutation to their children and want to
have their own children, their gametes can be edited directly by Crisper/cas9 to create healthy
children.Nowdays germ line genome editing by programmable nuclease such as Crisper/cas9 is the
most useful tool to treat genetic diseases with high risk of inheritance mutation transmition.
Unresolved ethical problems still exist and are the main reason for delay onset of clinical trials in this
field. Large animal models can be utilized for a variety of monogenic diseases, particularly monogenic
neurological disorders like HD and Duchene muscular dystrophy) DMD (. Specificity, efficacy, and
side effects of germ line genome editing technology should be assessed by animal models before
entering clinical trials.

Low Birth Weight Research Essay
The term low birth weight is used in describing infants weighing less than 5 lbs 8 ounces (2500g)
whereas the average weight is 8 lbs (Stanford, 2015). An infant with a low birth weight has a
significantly higher chance of neonatal and perinatal mortality (Maheswari Behera, 2014). Babies who
do persevere and survive are documented of having inadequate neurosensory, cognitive, behavioral
development and limited school performance (Guyatt Snow, 2004). Shiono and Behrman (1995) state
that infants with low birth weight consist of 7% of live births, however, 35% of the cost of health care
goes towards caring for low birth weight infants. Studies show that African American infants are twice
more than Caucasian infants to have a low birth weight. To bring a life into this world takes more than
conception; sacrifices need to be made, nurturing, and providing a safe home for the child, but many
minorities struggle to fulfill these needs. Health and health care are imperative when it comes to being
an expecting mother; therefore, it is important that to address what influences the birth weight of
African American infants in my research paper. I hope to address how factors such as racial
discrimination within the American health care system, prenatal care, stress, and the age of the mother
contributes to the low birth weight (LBW) disparities between African American infants and
Caucasian infants.

The Internet Is An Indispensable Requirement Of Common Man
The internet has become an indispensable requirement of common man these days. Not only business
tycoons or technology geeks but also anyone and everyone around the world is tied to this magical
web today. It has so influenced the people that they need it for everything right from the moment they
wake up till they go to bed.
All activities which we used to do outdoor earlier, whether it s shopping, reading, watching movies,
learning, playing games, ordering food or whatever, is done indoor, in front of a monitor now. The
world has shrunk into a size as small as the size of the smallest mobile phone.
The advancement of the internet is witnessing its positives and negatives today. As many positives
there are, it also has its negative sides. We read daily about hackers looting money online from banks
which we used to consider safe till date. They also trick people by providing fake websites which
pretend to be a legitimate website. Inexperienced people enter their details in it, which reaches evil
hands and causes them to lose their money.
Once your machine is connected to the internet, it is no longer safe. The websites you visit may
quietly install malware onto your computer, steal all crucial data from you and you may not even
know about it.
Hacking, spamming and phishing are the greatest threats on Internet today. The internet can now be

Batman As Superheros
For many, a superhero must have certain qualities. People want a superhero that is loyal, selfless,
smart and strong. These characteristics are what many superheroes in comic books have; and in the
early twentieth century, many teen boys were turning to for guidance. Batman was created for the kids
who did not have it very easy. Batman saw both of his parents murdered and became a vigilante to
fight off crime. Bruce Wayne changes into Batman for the better and portrays the better qualities of a
hero as opposed to Dr. Jekyll in the book, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert
Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll changes himself from a good man to an evil man. Much like many other
superheroes, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne. Some heroes may not have an alter ego like
mythological heroes. Heroes are able to have all different sorts of characteristics; it just depends on
their story. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde, Dorian Gray has used his portrait to be
eternally young and learns to see evil as beautiful (150). Unlike Dorian, Batman is everything but
selfish and risks everything for the better of man kind. Batman will always be the superhero that kids
can look up to and know is going to give everything he has to better this world. When it comes to
super human powers, that is where Batman lacks. He has no powers to his human self that make him
who he is. Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne who is a very intelligent businessman of Gotham

Leadership Styles Of Remember The Titans

There are distinct management and leadership styles portrayed in this movie. Using information
learned in this course, provide examples of effective and ineffective management techniques you
observed in the movie.
I observed five different leadership styles in this movie, and I felt that each of them were effective
because of the timing of the leadership style used based on the situation at hand. Authoritative
leadership skills were used at the beginning of the movie when the coaches, players and the rest of the
staff met for the first time. Being the new coach, Boone needed to get everyone to follow his vision
for the team since the school was just recently racially integrated. The racial integration put great ...

Lastly, democratic leadership styles were portrayed by both not only by both coaches, but also
between the players. When the coaches and some of the players bought into and believed in what
Coach Boone was trying to accomplish, they were able to instill a sense of ownership in the other
team members, coaches and the town as well. In the end all but one player had become a true part of
the team and what that team stood for. The offensive team captain felt empowered enough to point out
and ask that this player be cut from the team; I believe that he did the right thing and acted as a leader
in this situation. He knew that this player was a weak link in the team and the team couldn t afford to
have even one weak link if it was going to be successful.
Do you believe Coach Boone was an effective change agent? What about Coach Yoast? Why or why
not?
I feel that both coaches played a vital role in effective change. Even though both coaches had
reservations about working together, they were willing to put aside their own prejudices for the sake
of the team. Had they not been able to do that, the team would have seen their leaders working against
each other instead of working together; that type of scenario would have hindered any chance for
effective changes.
I personally feel that Coach Boone had some rather unique change styles that he used, but they

Queensland s Jury System
Juries are an essential component of Queensland s criminal justice system. However, the current jury
system in criminal law cases does not effectively meet the needs of society. This thesis is established
by first examining the role that juries play in the criminal justice system and the various interests of
those affected by juries. This is followed by a consideration of arguments for and against juries and
reforms that may be made to the jury system. Overall, it will be seen that there are substantial reasons
to reform the current system.
In considering the effectiveness of the jury system, it is first necessary to understand the roles of
juries. Primarily, a jury is a body of legally unqualified citizens who agree on a verdict based on
evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The jury represents the voice of the people, regardless, juries are ethnically un diverse, consist heavily
of certain age groups and members of certain socioeconomic statuses. To ensure better
representativeness, two specific reforms can be implemented. First, making avoiding jury duty more
difficult. The list of excuses in the Act can be reduced to achieve this. Additionally, the reforms must
address the racial diversity in juries. According to Israel, parties are likely to attempt to exclude
Indigenous and other ethnic minorities from in the selection process (1998). However, for the jury to
represent the voice of the people it must be racially diverse, as Australia is a very multicultural
country. As a result, a possible reform is making it more difficult for the parties to object to certain
jurors. To rectify the issue of a lack of competence in juries, a solution is to expand the kinds of cases
that a judge only trials. At present, for example, complicated tax and fraud cases require a judge only
trial. A reform is to make it possible for further kinds of cases to be added. An alternative reform is to
allow an independent lawyer to explain issues to the jury outside of court sessions, rather than relying
on the judges instructions alone. The lawyer could identify any misunderstandings and correct them.
Overall, it is necessary for reforms to be put in place to address

Damien Hirst s The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living is a sculpture of a
shark entombed in a rectangular steel vitrine. The vitrine is designed so that it looks like it is divided
into three cubes. The steel that splits up the vitrine into these cubes is painted white. Inside the vitrine,
the shark is entirely frozen in what looks like clear, blue water. It is positioned so that it is in the center
of the tank. From a side view, the shark s head pops out of the first cube, its body is in the middle
cube, and its tale pops out of the third cube. The shark has its mouth wide open, showing off its sharp

There was continually something about specific parts of The Muppets that frightened me, as much as I

Jim Henson and Frank Oz executing as two singing animals using their own mouths flipped around, it
was frightening! There was something unsettling about the passages paving the way to the Gorg s

appearance of the trolls in Henson s 1986 film Labyrinth.
With a basic cut from adolescent Sarah advising her infant sibling Toby a bedtime story to a bunch of

Mathematical Modeling Of A Functional Building
Mathematical Modeling of a Functional Building
Reminder Abstract should be able to be taken out of the paper and the rest of the paper still makes
sense.
Throughout architecture there is a delicate balance between functionality and aesthetics. However a
rule of thumb to follow is form follows function . Therefore for the purpose of our designed office
block, we decided to allow form to follow function for majority of our decisions, but we also kept the
aesthetics in our modeling conscious.

We finally settled on the semicircle equation because changing the height of the structure without
altering the set width, allowed for a more natural looking curve, whereas the function creates a more
pinched look. (include pictures of the buildings)
36* sin( π/ 72* x)
46* sin( π/ 72* x)
51* sin( π/ 72* x)
Ultimately, we made this choice for the purposes of this structure because it not only provides an ideal
form, but also allows for diverse functions as well.
Because we chose this graph to model the main arch of the building, we wanted to experiment in a
sense, and see how we could use this model in conjunction with the rectangular base to adhere to
potentially different functions. One of those possibilities was for the warehouse model. To start off we
just derived our original function in order to find the maximum x value, and its corresponding y
coordinate to ultimately find the volume of the warehouse at that given height of the model. The
derivative function of the semicircle for any height (greater than or equal to 36, less than or equal to
54) is shown below:
We used this equation to generate different heights that would maximize the area of the cuboid. We
were able to isolate just the area of the cuboid because that one face is simply projected backwards
150m, so we mathematically we were able to ignore that constant in the volume equation shown
above. With the help of Excel spreadsheets, we calculated the

Lise Meitner s Fission Research
When men claim the glass ceiling was shattered with Rosie the Riveter, I can t help but laugh. The
structure is transparent to them, by its very nature. They see women struggling beneath the barrier but
attribute it to a lack of work ethic or skill set, instead of a societal ill. Qualified women are demeaned
by men when they encounter roadblocks, ones they never had to face. Gender based discrimination no
longer prevents female suffrage, but norms and socialization encourage male superiority. It is the duty
of women who succeed to cultivate future female success. I firmly believe women can lead change in
any field, but too often their achievements are ignored or underplayed. Lise Meitner s groundbreaking
fission research was passed over, the Nobel Prize presented to her colleague instead. Textbooks

As a student, one topic which I remember always making the rounds of the debating circuit was, does
violence in television and movies influence the way children behave? By the end of my learning years,
I was sure that I had heard every argument that could have been made about the topic. After all, how
many examples can you give from television and how many instances of juvenile delinquency can you
cite that resulted from watching a violent film? Yes, violence has permeated the media but can we for

Uranium Mining Impacts
Uranium is most notably recognised for its radioactivity however, when compared with other
radioactive elements, Uranium has quite slow rate of decay (Pappas, 2015). U 235, an isotope of
Uranium, can be used in a fission bomb due to the fact that when its nucleus splits it releases
substantial amounts of energy. The most infamous example of how uranium has been used in this way
is the atomic uranium bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan by the U.S in 1945 (Atomic
Heritage Foundation, n.d.). Furthermore, the same properties that allow uranium to be used in a bomb,
are valued in the world of nuclear energy. Nuclear power stations use energy from uranium to produce
electricity and this production accounts for approximately 11 percent of the ... Show more content on

What Is The Role Of Slavery In African-American Culture
Slavery had also been present in New York from the earliest days of Dutch settlement. As their role
expanded so did slavery in the city, 30 percent of its laborers were slaves. Most came from different
cultures, spoke different languages, and practiced many regions. Slavery allowed different individuals
who would never otherwise have encountered, their bond was not kinship, language, or even race, but
the impressment of slavery. They eventually came together an created a cohesive culture and
community that took many years, and it processed at different rates of speed in different regions. The
turning point of slavery by the 19th century, slaves no longer identified themselves as Ibo, Ashanti,
Yoruba, and so on, but as African American. In music, art, folklore, language, and religion, their
cultural expressions emerged as a synthesis of African traditions, European elements, and new
conditions in America. Their religion also had to changed, according to give me liberty no experience

A Mexican Restaurant
The photograph shown in the cover page is the one that I will analyze. It shows a Chipotle restaurant,
which to the average person, is just that, a regular restaurant; however, there is a purpose behind it.
Being in the twenty first century, where the modern era continues to advance, we see affect in not only
our technological gadgets, but also in our restaurants. This era causes restaurants to change into more
appealing environments. Normally, when we think of a Mexican restaurant, we assimilate it with a
very stereotypical way. The stereotypical way we think of a Mexican restaurant is in a traditional
looking building with colors that reflect the country of Mexico. Usually with very fluent waiters and
waitresses who may not be very fluent with English, as well as menus that use the Spanish names of
the recipe, with all the ingredients in Spanish. Basically, when we think of a restaurant in a
stereotypical way, we think of the culture the restaurant is geared to specifically; however, this type of
style breaks that stereotype by creating a very hipster style with its modern advances in its restaurant
that appeals to the Modern Era with also serving the relatively same Mexican food. So the purpose of
the image is to show how the Modern Era doesn t stop at technology in that it also carries on to our
eateries, and how the restaurants have to change along with what is the status quo based on the
population. As talked about in the previous paragraph, the audience is

Mary Tudor s The Queen Of The Throne
Mary Tudor journeyed on a wild adventure throughout her life as she rose to the throne. Her life began
on February 18th in 1516, when she was born to her parents King Henry and Catherine of Aragon at
the Palace of Placentia, which is located in Greenwich, England. She was a marvelous blessing to her
parents, and the events that happened when she was young greatly affected her life as she got older as
well. The Mary Tudor Biography states, She was the only child of King Henry VIII and his first wife,
Catherine of Aragon, to survive through childhood. She was baptized as a Catholic shortly after her
birth. These details may seem minuscule to her life, but they are very crucial since they are the base of
her future beliefs, like religion and values, and how her childhood plays out. These carried on with her
throughout her life and greatly impacted the events that led up to Mary arising as queen. Mary became
the queen of England through being the oldest living child of King Henry VIII, her profound
benevolence towards the English, her ardent belief in turning England into a Catholic country, and
because she was the rightful heir of the throne by blood when the people before she died.
First off, Queen Mary 1 ascended to the throne by being the oldest child that was alive of King Henry
VIII at one point. The first wife that King Henry VIII married was Catherine of Aragon.

My Dream Life
I vividly recall being asked what my dream job was on a sunny day during our physical education
class in third grade. The first thing that flashed through my mind was architecture as I observed my
surroundings, feeling a sense of belonging and deficiency. I ve always been keen towards drawing and
painting. I have an incline to attribute my surroundings, the world, through a tale; a tale behind every
landscape, edifice, and object. I don t perceive a building as a background for a setting made of cold
concrete and steel, instead, I see the marvelous architecture as a living character that provides the base
of a story. A base that influenced my upbringing when I lived in my hometown Honduras and later the
United States. Up to the present time when I lived in Honduras, the structure of our home was
surrounded by nature; the everlasting scent of the flowers in the garden as birds flew by became
habitual. Seating on the porch, I would draw on the white surface as my hands would rhythmically
move to the symphonies my mom would play on the radio like Love s Joy by Fritz Kreisler. In due
time, it was time for us to leave everything behind in search of a new beginning. Our first residence in
the United States drastically changed from what my child self was used to. We lived in a small
apartment in Collins Ave where the structural space of the buildings seemed crowded. I felt foreign,
missing the scent of home and natures labyrinth. Fritz Kreisler s Love Joy soon became Love s
Sorrow as I took small steps to accommodate myself to our new surroundings, our new architectural
landscape. Whenever I felt alone or defeated I would sit by our apartment s window and listen to
symphonies by Chopin, Vivaldi, and Paganini among others; they became a coping mechanism and
inspiration to draw my surroundings inform of a lighthearted fantasy that made our new residence and
neighborhood feel like home.
At a point in my life where the narrative that played in my head like Chopin s Waltz, soon got
defeated by blank notes when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 10. It became
evident to me when I was sitting in on the examination table that there would be notable amounts of
limitations ahead of me. I couldn t

Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglas
November 29, 2002
Problematic:
Why was it so important for slave owners that their slaves should remain ignorant and what strategies
did they use to achieve this goal?
If you give a nigger an inch, he will take an ell. A nigger should know nothing but to obey his master
to do as he is told to do , a sentence said by Mr Auld in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas,
written by himself (Boston 1845).
Since last year, I have been interested in slave narratives and I read some about them. And each time,
or almost, I noticed many common features in those books. As we already know, slaves were generally
ill treated, whipped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, what could justify this condition of slaves? Once more, in order to justify their ownership
of other human beings, slave owners must constantly deny the humanity of their slaves. To convince
themselves that their slaves are not quite human, slave owners treat them inhumanely. Even if some
slaveholders were deeply convinced that black people were white men s equal, they had to deny it or
else slavery would stop. This is what Frederick Douglas called the evil of slavery in his narrative
when good natured slave owners had to forget their own feelings and to behave very severely toward
them for the continuation of slavery. In treating their slaves like beasts, the masters became one
themselves.
Then, slave owners separated young slaves from their family very early so as to avoid strong alliances
among the slaves which could be a serious threat to their hold on power. On the contrary, they wanted
to develop a sense of individuality and rivalry among slaves, they were trying to divide them. For
example, slave owners rewarded slaves for giving information on one another. This is how they
partially prevented slaves from forming organized rebellions. There is an example which shows the
efficiency of this practice in Frederick Douglas s narrative since he is betrayed, probably by one of his
closest friend on his first attempt to escape

What is President Kennedy s U.S. balance of payment problem?
In the 1960s, the United States was experiencing the balance of payment problem when its trade
balance was in a substantial deficit, the US dollar was under an attack and a massive amount of gold
flew out of its official reserve. Such issues in the balance of payment if exist for a long time can be a
threat to the whole economy because balance of payment closely interacts with key macroeconomic
variables such as GDP, exchange rates, interest rates and inflation rates. However, it was not an easy
task for the Kennedy government to solve the balance of payment problem as ... Show more content

The third option to solve balance of payment problem was to impose trade barriers and capital control.
On one hand, this would help to restrict import and capital outflow, thereby recover the trade deficit.
On the other hand, this policy was contrary to U.S. effort to liberalize the world trade. Economic
growth of the U.S and its allies would also be affected.
All three options directly address problem of the current accounts and financial and capital accounts.
While deflation and capital control can remedy both current account and financial and capital
accounts, devaluation only has immediate impacts on the current account. (Figure 1 bellow illustrates
direct impacts of each option to these accounts.) However, as exchange rates, interest rates, economic
growth and balance of payments are interacted, when one components of the balance of payment
improves, the other accounts will also recover. For example, when import demand increases, demand
for the dollar also increases, and therefore can prevent the outflow of gold from official reserve. That
being said, all three options can solve U.S balance of payment problem; however, there must be cost
incurred that Kennedy government have to consider.

Can any lesson be drawn from President Kennedy s balance of payment problem in the 1960s to

Products that contain sodium fluoride (NaF) as the active ingredient also need to have sufficient
detergent to prevent the fluoride ions from reacting with the silica abrasives forming insoluble

available fluoride. The difficulty in achieving the analytical methods is related to the large variety of
ingredients used in toothpaste products and the different forms of fluoride delivered during tooth

free ionic fluoride which has the ability to react with tooth structure, interfere with microbial
metabolism, absorb to the oral mucosa, and has anticaries efficacy; profluoride compounds that are

Polymers And Their Monomer Units
In order to better understand this lab one must first understand about polymers and their monomer
units. Polymers are substances containing a large number of structural units joined by the same type of
linkage. The small molecules that make up these polymer chains are called monomers. Polymers in
the natural world have been around since the beginning of time and are found many places in nature.
Starch, cellulose, and rubber all possess polymeric properties. Cellulose and starch are actually
polymers of glucose which is a monosaccharide.
Man made polymers (also known as synthetic polymers) have been studied since 1832. Today, the
polymer industry has grown to be larger than the aluminum, copper and steel industries combined.
Some of these synthetic polymers are include foam rubber, disposable diapers, plastic cups, garden
hoses, nylon, plastic wrap, etc. Polymers already have a range of applications that far exceeds that of
any other class of material available to man. Current applications extend from adhesives, coatings,
foams, and packaging materials to textile and industrial fibers, composites, electronic devices,
biomedical devices, optical devices, and precursors for many newly developed high tech ceramics.
Not every kind of plastic is the same. In 1988, the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) established a
classification system to help consumers and recyclers properly recycle and dispose of each different
type based on its chemical makeup. These identification codes

In the 1870 s, the Canadian government partnered partnered with churches such as the Anglican,

Residential schools were first established after the Indian act which passed in 1876 and lasted up until
1996 when the last residential school in Saskatchewan, Canada was shut down due to lack of respect
for the culture and the harsh mistreatment that the youth suffered.
The official reasons given to the country for establishing residential schools was that the Canadian
government believed that it had the responsibility of educating and caring for the aboriginal people.
They believed that learning English and adopting christianity was their best chance for success. ...

Comparing Power In Three Years She Grew And The Sound Of...
Most relate power to such things as conformity or subordination. Nature is thought to be pure and
everlasting, but it doesn t seem to make people think of it as powerful. Certain poems such as Three
Years She Grew by William Wordsworth, There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale, and The
Sound of Night by Maxine Kumin, explain the relationship between nature and other forces like
mankind. These poems contain instances of power between nature and mankind. In order to create the
power struggle, the authors use tone, mood, and form to their advantage. Tone, mood, and form
influence how power affects the relationship between nature and mankind. Three Years She Grew uses
tone to create a caring and maternal feeling. Nature uses its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This poem explains that both nature and humans are equally struggling. Kumin writes, Birds

now on the narrow beach we defend ourselves from dark... and lie in our blankets/ while night
knickers around us (Kumin). The humans are struggling as well. They are sitting around trying to get
through the night. The night proceeds to be set as eerie, Now every voice of the hour the known, the
supposed, the strange,/ the mindless, the witted, the never seen / sing, thrum, impinge, and rearrange/
endlessly (Kumin). The different types of voices described make the reader wonder why these voices
seem to make them feel uncomfortable. The humans and nature are both shown to be similar in that
one is no better than the other. They both have equivalent problems and feelings. The relationship of
power between nature and human beings is influenced by tone, mood, and form. Humans and nature
compare and contrast in interesting ways. Some authors believe, as shown in their writing, that nature
is the more powerful component in the relationship, but others disagree. Nature and human beings
have a relationship that can be defined in many different ways. Poems Three Years She Grew by

Secondary Batteries
Batteries are essential for the wireless heart monitors to operate. A battery is composed of
electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy to electrical energy and consists of a cathode
(the positive terminal) and an anode (the negative terminal). The battery needs to connect to the
external circuits of the wireless heart monitor, and electrolytes move and cause the electrolytes to act
as ions and preform work. There are two ways in which batteries can behave: a primary and a
secondary battery. Primary batteries are disposable after one use and secondary batteries can be reused
after being charges. In primary batteries once the electrodes have changed during battery use, they
cannot b0e changed back. Secondary batteries can be recharged, and the initial make up of the
electrodes can be changed by a reverse current. Primary batteries are mainly used in devices that

The advantages of conducting responsible advertising for us as a society aren t hard to imagine or
even define, but as of now, there are no published outlines to define what constitutes responsible
advertising, and the deficit of such a definition makes it harder for stakeholders to discern what is and

Anheuser Busch took a step into the direction of promoting their responsibility campaign by launching
their Budweiser Designate a Driver Blimp campaign . This campaign was the first ever blimp to be

  • 2. Blue Ocean Research Paper The sun glares at me, burning me even more as I look out onto the ocean. The water looks like a blanket of diamonds, making me grin easily. Thinking of the treasure out there, my toes curl into the sand, feeling the rough texture prod me even more. My tanned, muscled arm wraps around the smooth surface of my white surfboard, giving me a rush of adrenaline for what is to come. I jog towards the ocean, my heart thumping faster and faster as I get closer. The first splash of water hits me, a cold rush enlivening my whole body. I thrust my joy against the weight of the sea, and climb on. My wetsuit clad legs dangle in the clear blue water, as I squint at what s in front of me, looking for the perfect wave. • 3. Coli And The General Mills Outbreak Essay Introduction to E. Coli and the General Mills Outbreak. After reports of foodborne illnesses were observed from December 21, 2015 to September 5, 2016, the FDA initiated investigations which led to a trace back to the source of the outbreak which were various flours manufactured by General Mills. After the trace back, in May 2016, General Mills led a voluntary recall of its flour due to the presence of pathogens E. coli O121 and E. coli O26. E. coli O121 and O26 are toxin producing Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) that are gram negative and rod shaped as can be seen in figure 1 below. Although most E. coli are harmless and are found naturally in the gastrointestinal tracts of mammals, however, E. coli O121 and O26 are pathogenic, meaning they can cause illness. Figure 1: Microbial Structure of a general E. coli bacteria. According to the bad bug book, the incubation period for these pathogens range from 2 to 8 days after consumption of the contaminated product. After consumption, symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal cramps develop which are often overcome by healthy adults within a week. However, the most susceptible and vulnerable of the population, immunocompromised people, may experience more severe consequences such as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). In this particular case, due to the nature of the product, the long shelf life of flour and the tendency for consumers to store the product for long periods before consumption, it is most likely that ... • 4. Mental, Physical And Body Aspects Human behavior has been analyzed over time, along with conditions that have been put into perspective, about mental, physical and body aspects. These aspects of a human being are very important for normal functioning of a person in society. When one s mental thought process is affected, proper reasoning is not possible, and in turn the behavior becomes erratic. One such condition that is directly connected to this mental situation is psychosis. Apart from affecting the mental condition, it also affects the sensory and cognitive abilities. Psychosis is defined as a disorder that causes one to have experiences that are out of touch with reality. According to Von (2010), this is not a disease, but just a clear symptom of a mental illness. Psychotic people have a tendency to have untrue thoughts, or are deluded and they have hallucinations. Von (2010) goes on to explain that these symptoms are uniquely divided into positive and negative results. Different psychotic disorders are categorized on the basis of the duration, bizarreness of the delusions and the intensity of mania or depression. Non affective psychosis tends to have negative symptoms, longer duration and bizarre delusions, while affective psychosis has fewer negative symptoms that are related to bipolar disorder (Von, 2010). A mental health professional can only recognize psychosis in a client by observing major changes in their behavior. These changes are such as the abrupt loss of interest in activities that one ... • 5. Tax Exemptions in America Decades ago, state and federal legislatures began offering tax exemptions, including exemptions from property tax, for nonprofit institutions that provide charitable services to communities. Nonprofit hospitals that qualify for federal tax exemption under Internal Revenue Code §501(c)(3) are not guaranteed state charitable tax exemptions. A hospital must provide some amount of charity in order to be granted a state tax exemption, however historical statues have failed to quantify what amount of charity is sufficient to meet the charitable purpose exemption . In recent times, nonprofit hospitals repeatedly have to defend the amount of charity and benefit they provide to the community to maintain their state property tax exempt status. There has been a recent, notable case where a hospital lost its property tax exemption. In the case of Provena Covenant Medical Center V. Illinois Department of Revenue, the Illinois Supreme Court held that PCMC does not provide enough charity care to qualify for tax exemptions provided for nonprofit organizations that provide charity care . Nonprofit hospitals are among the largest landowners in many communities, in the US, billions of dollars in property is owned by nonprofit hospitals . Most hospitals would owe millions in taxes if exempt properties were taxed. This report will examine the Illinois Supreme court decision in Provena Covenant Medical Center v. Illinois Department of Revenue, Case No. 107328, and analyze the courts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Why Is The Use Comradery And Authority In Ordinary Men As with all historical analysis, it s important to preserve the agency of those who were involved. In Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning, the argument is posed that due to the complexities of choice in the Nazi regime, the men involved in the mass murder of the Jewish population did so due to a perceived inability to liberate oneself. While the circumstances surrounding the men of Reserve Police Battalion 101 were often constrictive, these men actively served the Nazi regime and lead to the murder of thousands of people. Inside of the Nazi administration, there were many deep and pervasive means of making defection and refusal to seem unreachable. Two of the ways most discussed by Christopher Browning was the use comradery and authority to keep men complicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christopher Browning cites this as a major reason for compliance in the Police Battalion, where the refusal to follow orders could lead to repercussion from peers. In some instances, a refusal to follow orders could be interpreted as being oneself to be above the orders given, therefore better than those who had complied (CITATION). To refuse orders simply pushed the one person s workload onto the rest of the group, meaning that they would endure what one was too weak to handle. This sense of enduring the impossible also was apart of the comradery of the battalion. Inside of this tightly knit group was also the idea that those who did endure the massacres and murder were stronger and more manly than those who faltered, reinforcing that behavior to be desirable. (185). An example of this behavior can be seen in some of the specific violence against women executed outside of orders, such as Lieutenant Peters who would get drunk, sneak into Jewish homes and assault women (154). This sort of behavior is grown out of a situation in which violence and heartlessness is the celebrated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Woman Of Black By Susan Hill On the twenty sixth of February 2014 our drama class travelled to The Fortune Theatre situated in London to see the exhilarating adaptation of the thriller fiction novel The Woman In Black written by Susan Hill that was adapted into a stage play by Stephen Mallatratt. The drama arose from many sources and routes particularly the production that was involved. The Fortune Theatre is a very intimate auditorium, assembling the play to become have a more excavating effect, and the audience to become more involved with the performance. Interestingly, The Women In Black is now the second longest running play in the West End. It has been running at The Fortune Theatre since February 1989 one can effortlessly notify that the production is exceedingly popular and innovative due to these given statuses. It is indisputably one of the most bloodcurdling ghost stories relentlessly told on stage. The Woman In Black was played by an uncredited actress, thus instigating that the play is performed by only two actors: Arthur Kipps and The Actor who retells Kipps story. Furthermore, The Woman may have not been listed in the programme because of the extra effect that she will enhance when she appears on the stage to frighten the audience. Before I saw the play, I was very sceptical about the drama as I had expected it to be predictably monotonous as I could not interpret how the production could make a live performance to be perceived as an alluring thriller. Temporary Assistance For Needy Families Temporary Assistance for Needy Families: A Policy Analysis Lena Byanski Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne Author Note: This paper was prepared for PPOL V371, Section 01, Spring 2016, taught by Professor Aitalieva. Abstract The main purpose of this research is to give further knowledge about the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program offered in the United States (TANF). With looking at the history of the program, it allows the reader to get an improved understanding of why the need for the program was developed, and have an understanding at which direction the program is going to be going. The research will share the environments of the current policy, effectiveness and efficiency, and offer some possible policy alternatives that will either benefit the program or make it more difficult to allocate the proper funding in order to continue to help low income families in need. In an age where political correctness is all the rage and conservative values are synonyms with discrimination it is not surprising that the principles by which our great nation was built on are the first to be tossed aside. We see an increasing number of left wing policies put into play with almost unanimous support from the media. These policies are masked with intent to bring our country together but generally end up creating even larger division. This is made ever present in the repeal of the military s Don t Ask Don t Tell act. The repel of Don t Ask Don t Tell has more Don t Ask Don t Tell was a law passed by President Bill Clinton in 1993. The law also restricted officers in command positions from questioning any serviceman or servicewoman of having homosexual beliefs or tenancies. Retired veteran and senator John McCain brings up many valid points when he states his belief in the necessity of law by saying, This successful policy has been in effect for over 15 years, and it is well understood and predominantly supported by our military at all levels. An infant with a low birth weight has a significantly higher chance of neonatal and perinatal mortality (Maheswari Behera, 2014). Babies who do persevere and survive are documented of having inadequate neurosensory, cognitive, behavioral development and limited school performance (Guyatt Snow, 2004). Shiono and Behrman (1995) state that infants with low birth weight consist of 7% of live births, however, 35% of the cost of health care goes towards caring for low birth weight infants. Studies show that African American infants are twice more than Caucasian infants to have a low birth weight. To bring a life into this world takes more than conception; sacrifices need to be made, nurturing, and providing a safe home for the child, but many minorities struggle to fulfill these needs. Health and health care are imperative when it comes to being an expecting mother; therefore, it is important that to address what influences the birth weight of African American infants in my research paper. I hope to address how factors such as racial discrimination within the American health care system, prenatal care, stress, and the age of the mother contributes to the low birth weight (LBW) disparities between African American infants and Caucasian infants. This thesis is established by first examining the role that juries play in the criminal justice system and the various interests of those affected by juries. This is followed by a consideration of arguments for and against juries and reforms that may be made to the jury system. The jury represents the voice of the people, regardless, juries are ethnically un diverse, consist heavily of certain age groups and members of certain socioeconomic statuses. To ensure better representativeness, two specific reforms can be implemented. First, making avoiding jury duty more difficult. The list of excuses in the Act can be reduced to achieve this. Additionally, the reforms must address the racial diversity in juries. According to Israel, parties are likely to attempt to exclude Indigenous and other ethnic minorities from in the selection process (1998). However, for the jury to represent the voice of the people it must be racially diverse, as Australia is a very multicultural country. As a result, a possible reform is making it more difficult for the parties to object to certain jurors. To rectify the issue of a lack of competence in juries, a solution is to expand the kinds of cases that a judge only trials. At present, for example, complicated tax and fraud cases require a judge only trial. A reform is to make it possible for further kinds of cases to be added. Because we chose this graph to model the main arch of the building, we wanted to experiment in a sense, and see how we could use this model in conjunction with the rectangular base to adhere to potentially different functions. One of those possibilities was for the warehouse model. To start off we just derived our original function in order to find the maximum x value, and its corresponding y coordinate to ultimately find the volume of the warehouse at that given height of the model. The derivative function of the semicircle for any height (greater than or equal to 36, less than or equal to 54) is shown below: We used this equation to generate different heights that would maximize the area of the cuboid. Being in the twenty first century, where the modern era continues to advance, we see affect in not only our technological gadgets, but also in our restaurants. This era causes restaurants to change into more appealing environments. Normally, when we think of a Mexican restaurant, we assimilate it with a very stereotypical way. The stereotypical way we think of a Mexican restaurant is in a traditional looking building with colors that reflect the country of Mexico. Usually with very fluent waiters and waitresses who may not be very fluent with English, as well as menus that use the Spanish names of the recipe, with all the ingredients in Spanish. These carried on with her throughout her life and greatly impacted the events that led up to Mary arising as queen. • 29. My Dream Life I vividly recall being asked what my dream job was on a sunny day during our physical education class in third grade. The first thing that flashed through my mind was architecture as I observed my surroundings, feeling a sense of belonging and deficiency. I ve always been keen towards drawing and painting. I have an incline to attribute my surroundings, the world, through a tale; a tale behind every landscape, edifice, and object. I don t perceive a building as a background for a setting made of cold concrete and steel, instead, I see the marvelous architecture as a living character that provides the base of a story. A base that influenced my upbringing when I lived in my hometown Honduras and later the United States. Up to the present time when I lived in Honduras, the structure of our home was surrounded by nature; the everlasting scent of the flowers in the garden as birds flew by became habitual. Seating on the porch, I would draw on the white surface as my hands would rhythmically move to the symphonies my mom would play on the radio like Love s Joy by Fritz Kreisler. In due time, it was time for us to leave everything behind in search of a new beginning. Our first residence in the United States drastically changed from what my child self was used to. We lived in a small apartment in Collins Ave where the structural space of the buildings seemed crowded. I felt foreign, missing the scent of home and natures labyrinth. Fritz Kreisler s Love Joy soon became Love s Sorrow as I took small steps to accommodate myself to our new surroundings, our new architectural landscape. Whenever I felt alone or defeated I would sit by our apartment s window and listen to symphonies by Chopin, Vivaldi, and Paganini among others; they became a coping mechanism and inspiration to draw my surroundings inform of a lighthearted fantasy that made our new residence and neighborhood feel like home. At a point in my life where the narrative that played in my head like Chopin s Waltz, soon got defeated by blank notes when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 10. It became evident to me when I was sitting in on the examination table that there would be notable amounts of limitations ahead of me. I couldn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglas November 29, 2002 Problematic: Why was it so important for slave owners that their slaves should remain ignorant and what strategies did they use to achieve this goal? If you give a nigger an inch, he will take an ell. A nigger should know nothing but to obey his master to do as he is told to do , a sentence said by Mr Auld in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, written by himself (Boston 1845). Since last year, I have been interested in slave narratives and I read some about them. And each time, or almost, I noticed many common features in those books. As we already know, slaves were generally ill treated, whipped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otherwise, what could justify this condition of slaves? Once more, in order to justify their ownership of other human beings, slave owners must constantly deny the humanity of their slaves. To convince themselves that their slaves are not quite human, slave owners treat them inhumanely. Even if some slaveholders were deeply convinced that black people were white men s equal, they had to deny it or else slavery would stop. This is what Frederick Douglas called the evil of slavery in his narrative when good natured slave owners had to forget their own feelings and to behave very severely toward them for the continuation of slavery. In treating their slaves like beasts, the masters became one themselves. Then, slave owners separated young slaves from their family very early so as to avoid strong alliances among the slaves which could be a serious threat to their hold on power. On the contrary, they wanted to develop a sense of individuality and rivalry among slaves, they were trying to divide them. For example, slave owners rewarded slaves for giving information on one another. This is how they partially prevented slaves from forming organized rebellions. There is an example which shows the efficiency of this practice in Frederick Douglas s narrative since he is betrayed, probably by one of his closest friend on his first attempt to escape ... In the 1960s, the United States was experiencing the balance of payment problem when its trade balance was in a substantial deficit, the US dollar was under an attack and a massive amount of gold flew out of its official reserve. Such issues in the balance of payment if exist for a long time can be a threat to the whole economy because balance of payment closely interacts with key macroeconomic variables such as GDP, exchange rates, interest rates and inflation rates. However, it was not an easy task for the Kennedy government to solve the balance of payment problem as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third option to solve balance of payment problem was to impose trade barriers and capital control. On one hand, this would help to restrict import and capital outflow, thereby recover the trade deficit. On the other hand, this policy was contrary to U.S. effort to liberalize the world trade. Economic growth of the U.S and its allies would also be affected. All three options directly address problem of the current accounts and financial and capital accounts. While deflation and capital control can remedy both current account and financial and capital accounts, devaluation only has immediate impacts on the current account. (Figure 1 bellow illustrates direct impacts of each option to these accounts.) However, as exchange rates, interest rates, economic growth and balance of payments are interacted, when one components of the balance of payment improves, the other accounts will also recover. For example, when import demand increases, demand for the dollar also increases, and therefore can prevent the outflow of gold from official reserve. That being said, all three options can solve U.S balance of payment problem; however, there must be cost incurred that Kennedy government have to consider. There is a large effort to develop reliable methods of measurement of available fluoride. The difficulty in achieving the analytical methods is related to the large variety of ingredients used in toothpaste products and the different forms of fluoride delivered during tooth brushing (Carey, 2014). There are three categories of fluoride form toothpaste during tooth brushing: free ionic fluoride which has the ability to react with tooth structure, interfere with microbial metabolism, absorb to the oral mucosa, and has anticaries efficacy; profluoride compounds that are delivered or precipitate in the oral cavity during brushing, release ionic fluoride over time, and contribute to anticaries efficacy; and unavailable fluoride compounds that do not release fluoride ions, are either spat out or swallowed, and have no anticaries efficacy (Carey, 2014). • 33. Polymers And Their Monomer Units In order to better understand this lab one must first understand about polymers and their monomer units. Polymers are substances containing a large number of structural units joined by the same type of linkage. The small molecules that make up these polymer chains are called monomers. Polymers in the natural world have been around since the beginning of time and are found many places in nature. Starch, cellulose, and rubber all possess polymeric properties. Cellulose and starch are actually polymers of glucose which is a monosaccharide. Man made polymers (also known as synthetic polymers) have been studied since 1832. Today, the polymer industry has grown to be larger than the aluminum, copper and steel industries combined. Some of these synthetic polymers are include foam rubber, disposable diapers, plastic cups, garden hoses, nylon, plastic wrap, etc. Polymers already have a range of applications that far exceeds that of any other class of material available to man. Current applications extend from adhesives, coatings, foams, and packaging materials to textile and industrial fibers, composites, electronic devices, biomedical devices, optical devices, and precursors for many newly developed high tech ceramics. Not every kind of plastic is the same. Nature is thought to be pure and everlasting, but it doesn t seem to make people think of it as powerful. Certain poems such as Three Years She Grew by William Wordsworth, There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale, and The Sound of Night by Maxine Kumin, explain the relationship between nature and other forces like mankind. These poems contain instances of power between nature and mankind. In order to create the power struggle, the authors use tone, mood, and form to their advantage. They are sitting around trying to get through the night. The night proceeds to be set as eerie, Now every voice of the hour the known, the supposed, the strange,/ the mindless, the witted, the never seen / sing, thrum, impinge, and rearrange/ endlessly (Kumin). The different types of voices described make the reader wonder why these voices seem to make them feel uncomfortable. A battery is composed of electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy to electrical energy and consists of a cathode (the positive terminal) and an anode (the negative terminal). The battery needs to connect to the external circuits of the wireless heart monitor, and electrolytes move and cause the electrolytes to act as ions and preform work. There are two ways in which batteries can behave: a primary and a secondary battery. Primary batteries are disposable after one use and secondary batteries can be reused after being charges. In primary batteries once the electrodes have changed during battery use, they cannot b0e changed back. Secondary batteries can be recharged, and the initial make up of the electrodes can be changed by a reverse current.
