Australi The Biggest Country
Australia is the sixth largest country, and the largest island continent in the world, and full of an
abundance of natural resources. Geographically Australia is about the same size as the lower 48
United States, however the population is less than the size of Los Angeles at 23.6 million. The
majority of the population is therefore grouped into the capital cities Sydney in New South Wales,
Melbourne in Victoria, Adelaide in South Australia, Brisbane in Queensland, Darwin in Northern
Territory, and Perth in Western Australia, Canberra in Australian Capital Territory
. While Australia
may be small in population, they also have a level of consumerism that equals the US, UK and
other first world countries. The amount of natural resources in Australia is astounding and with the
population grouped around the country its works to allow the country to utilize them as much as
possible. For Australia being such a large country with many natural resources, the use of their
mining industry has helped improve the economy and helped develop a stronger country.
Over the past years, Australia has gone through many changes associated with their economy. In
1996, Australia was in a period of recession, but began to have economic growth in the years of
1997 through to the early 2000s. This growth was due to the weakening of the Australia dollar
causing an increase in market shares for Australia exports. With the help of the decrease in prices
of exports for foreign buyers, in return

Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan: An Influence for a Generation A person is a success if they get up in the morning
and gets to bed at night, and in between dose what he wants to do words spoken by the singer
/songwriter Bob Dylan. Being a man of success himself, yet a very humble and simple man,
changed the way people view musical quality. Dylan was awarded with the number one song in
the twentieth century with those lyrics from his masterpiece Like a Rolling Stone, by Rolling
Stone Magazine. His poetic words were heard all across the world, inspiring all who heard his
voice. Telling tales of political and civil injustice, Dylan s words brought normal everyday life a

His inspiration was to intimidate the music of his own music idol, Woody Guthrie. He wanted
to be a socially conscious singer/composer just like Guthrie (Heatly, 126). As the times changed,
Dylan became a musical chameleon. He was able to conform to the changes in the popularity in
music. Dylan s career started with folk and protest music in the early 1960 s then moved through
to electrified folk rock in the mid and late 1960 s and early 1970 s (Kamin). After the Civil
Rights, most fans found Dylan s folk music more admiring and significant than anything he had
ever wrote; popularity formed by creating the raw sounding combo of vocals, harmonica and
guitar. That mixture alone has kept his music career last him forty seven years (Rathbone).
Dylan did not want to stop there; he wanted to evolve into the new generation of music. Dylan
cross pollinated folk and country music with electric rock, creating an entirely new dimension
of popular music (Heatly, 126). He liked to mix sounds and experiment different styles to meet
his high expectations of creativity. He created the new style called folk rock mixing his original
folk sound but began to play electric guitar to embrace rock and roll (Dylan). Some Dylan fans
did not approve of his switch but happened to still remained a musical sensation with a wider
audience. Dylan and his band also caused an uproar at the Newport Folk Festival in July of 1965,
when they began to

Proton- Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) Essay
A H2/O2 protonв€’exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is a clean, sustainable energy source
and suitable for the operation of small electronic device [1]. Among many problems that still exist
for PEMFC, the sluggish reactions at the cathode electrode and poor mass transport of protons and
electron decrease the fuel cell performance by increasing the activation overvoltage, or activation
loss [2]. This problem can, however, be solved by raising the fuel cell operating temperature [3],
but only up to a certain temperature before the deformation or degradatation of polymeric
components occurs. Thus, the reduction in the activation overvoltage for low temperature fuel cell
operation is still necessary when the PEMFC components are made of... Show more content on

Epichlorohydrin is suitable to be used as a crosslinking agent for crosslinking chitosan as it only
reacts with the hydroxyl groups of chitosan, leaving the primary amine groups free to bind with
protons or water molecules (both of which contribute to the proton mitigation). However, many
questions have not been answered in the previous report [7]. The current study thus focuses on
the effects of the operating temperature and relative humidity (RH) on performances of H2/O2
PEM fuel cells, which are assembled with Pt/C which have previously been treated by using
various epichlorohydrin amounts. In addition, the thermal stability, morphology, and stability of

What Are The Benefits Of African American Studies
There are multiple factors that differentiate the history and experience of African Americans from
those of Asian, Hispanic and Native Americans. First African Americans were involuntary
immigrated to the United States by traders looking to exploit them as a commodity to promote
slavery. Unlike African Americans most ethnic groups immigrated here voluntary for economic and
political freedom. Also while some of these groups were discriminated against their was a intensive
effort to erase African culture from the minds of African Americans. Forcing them to abandon their
language, history, culture and ancestral ties, to the europeans they were nothing, but a piece of
property. Then after their past had been striped from them, African Americans were contintually
taken advantage by whites to stay above them and not allow them to move up society. Even social
reform that occurred before, during and after the Civil Rights movement still haven t allowed for
significant changes. This coordinated effort has created a lingering legacy that has negatively

African Americans and their role in American society. One of the biggest social objective that
comes along with the definition of African American Studies is that it must be defined by someones
who is African American or African. They have to be the ones that define their culture, not a person

Slavery In Haiti
Haiti, the second largest island in the Caribbean founded in 1749 surrounded by Dominican
Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Haiti has thrived and been replenished upon multiple
occasions due to hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires. Though Haiti sought independence as early as
1804, Haiti was never truly independent. Haiticontinues to endure much death, hardship, economic
and social problems while they struggle to establish and maintain a stable democratic government
(Ngcheong Lim, 2005 p 17).
Dating back to 1697 when the France and Spain divided Hispaniola in efforts to gain control. This
caused much chaos; the Haiti Revolution was a pivotal aspect demolishing slavery and it still
affects Haitians today from patterns established under the French colonial rule. While Haiti is
considered a developing country with many resources, it does not provide a sufficient standard of
living for its citizens causing them to migrant to other countries such as Cuba, United States of
American, and Dominican Republic.
The 2010 earth quake was a horrific event dismantling Haiti and leaving people without shelter,

The Anterior Cruciate Ligament ( Acl )
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is regarded as critical to the normal functioning of the knee,
its disruption causing functional impairment, meniscal lesions, and the early onset of joint
degeneration (Daniel 1994). The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee originates from the
anterior aspect of the tibial plateau, inserting on the lateral femoral condyle. The ligament resists
anterior translation and medial rotation of the tibia to the femur (Dai, 2012).
Injury of the ACL is now the most common ligamentous injury of the knee and accounts for about
30 injuries per 100,000 of the population (Irrgang, 1996). Over time it became apparent that
multiple variables act in combination to influence ACL injury risk(Wojtys, 2003). Risk... Show

No definitive management strategy exists for patients with this injury, a case particularly evident
when deciding between conservative rehabilitation and reconstruction, and between methods of
reconstruction (Risberg, 2001a). Healing properties of the ACL are poor due to inadequate
vascularity, owing to and its presence within the synovial fluid (Freeman, 2007). Currently, ACL
reconstruction is most often performed using an arthroscopically assisted technique (Irrgang, 1996).
For the past two decades, the gold standard in ACL reconstructions has been the patellar tendon
graft from the middle third of the patella tendon(Keays, 2001), but increasingly the Hamstring graft
has been used. This shift in popularity has occurred for several reasons, including, concerns about
damaging the knee extensor apparatus using the patella tendon procedure and the potential for
subsequent anterior knee pain, patella fracture, ligament rupture, and infra patella
contraction(Beard, 2001). The semi tendinosus tendon with or without the gracilis tendon is
harvested, typically from the ipsilateral leg. The resultant tissue is fashioned into a four strand graft
which is then used to reconstruct the ACL (Daniel, 2014).

Bank Mergers And Its Effect On The Banking Industry
Bank mergers often occur to diminish costs and increase efficiency across the banking industry.
In Finance 412, we have expressed the importance of regulatory burdens and the stress and
challenges banks face with enforcing these regulations. According to Kersha Cartwright, a bank
official that I spoke with, ProBank (PB), formerly located in Tallahassee, Florida, was under a
regulatory order to raise more capital. Since 2009, regulators have been concerned with banks
holding greater capital buffers and to keep larger reserves of liquid assets to prevent from
becoming insolvent. ProBank s regulatory order precluded it from lending new money within the
Tallahassee market place until more capital was raised. Bremen, Georgia s American... Show more

number increased by 56% to 39 employees. According to Kersha Cartwright, the merger between
the two banks did not involve a lot of layoffs. Another important part of a merger and acquisition, in
addition to layoffs and employment information, is how well the two companies blend in terms of
company culture. Stephen R. Winn, Interim President of ProBank stated that: partnering with a

The Fundamental Principle Of A Republic By Anna Howard Shaw
In the June of 1915, Anna Howard Shaw exposes the hypocrisy in America s voting system in her
speech The Fundamental Principle of a Republic. Her voice full of acerbic indignation indicates
her frustration with male domination in America s so called Republic. She denounces America as
a Republic since half of its citizens cannot vote and condemns its arbitrary and discriminatory form
of voting. She employs a sarcastic tone to demonstrate how ridiculous the voting system is and to
gain men s support in the women s suffragemovement. Shaw s sarcasm enhances her argument by
making the current voting system seem illogical. She bluntly states that America should stop
pretending to be a Republic when it does not uphold the fundamental ideals of

Essay on Friedman vs Freeman
What is ethically responsible management? How can a corporation, given its economic mission, be
managed with appropriate attention to ethical concerns? These are central questions in the field of
business ethics. There are two approaches to answering such questions. The first one is Milton
Friedman s shareholdertheory of managementand the second one is Edwards Freeman s
Stakeholder theory of management, two different views about the purpose and aims of a business.
Milton Friedman s shareholder theory of management says that the purpose of a business is to
make money for the owner or the stockholders of the business. Friedman says that there is only one

It says that you cannot look at any one of those stakes / stakeholders in isolation. Their interest
has to go together, and a job of a manager or an entrepreneur is to figure out how the interest of
customers, suppliers, communities, employees and financiers go in the same direction. Each of
these groups is important for the business to be successful and if one of the groups is having
problems to associate with the rest then it has a negative impact to all the rest.
In my opinion I believe that both theories have their own advantages and disadvantages and every
business has to follow a theory that complies with its goal, when in my case I would rather follow
the theory of Freeman in one extend. Friedman s position we can see it as a theory for short term
investment and businesses, while Freeman s theory targets businesses that are planning to stay for
a longer term. Also I believe that Friedman s theory affects society in an inefficient way when costs
are not really paid, as for example pollution, traffic congestion, no taxes, and poorly educated
workforce. Another problem with Friedman s position is that it assumes that forces of competition
are sufficiently vigorous, but they are not. In addition the distribution of income that results from
profit maximization is very

The During The Progressive Era
During the Progressive Era, various groups responded to the political, social, and economic woes
that resulted from the rapid industrialization and urbanization of America during the 19th Century.
The mass immigration of foreigners and the northern migration of Africa Americans led to urban
overcrowding and competition for wage paying jobs. Electric lighting allowed factories to expand
the working hours and increase the output of manufactured goods. There was little regulation for
employee welfare and many men, women, and children toiled long hours in unsafe factory
conditions. Expanding communications through the widespread use of telephones, magazines, and
newspapers brought the plight of the poor and oppressed to middle class America. Improving
personal economics allowed these reformers to think less about personal issues and more about
society at large. These middle class Americans led a social movement to cope with the problems
associated with rapid industrialization in the 19th Century by bettering society through
governmental, business, and social reform. Reform of government, which had become increasingly
corrupt through political machines and special interest groups, was one focus of the progressive
movement. Because government officials often aligned themselves with big business or bought
their way into office, the American public lost faith in the integrity of politicians. One type of
journalist, the muckraker, revealed the widespread corruption of

Authority Is A Fundamental Part Of Life Essay
Authority is a fundamental part of life. It is utilized in both micro and macro ways, such as it
being used in a particular group of individuals or a mass society. In order for society to function,
some aspect of authority is required. Police officers use authority to maintain order and obedience
throughout communities. Parents possess characteristics of authority in order to teach children
right from wrong. As well as, teachers are considered authority figures since they need to control
and maintain obediencein the classroom.
Authority cannot exist without obedience. Society is developed on this notion. Without authority,
and its required obedience, disorder and disruption would occur. But how much obedience to
authority is necessary? When is it too much or too little? Authority figures hold such power, that it
quite often becomes abused. We can relate back to these questions by looking into the novel,
Crimes of Power and States of Impunity , and connecting it with the element of the chain of
command. Often, higher authority individuals abuse their powers, just like those involved in the
scandal at Abu Ghraib. The American Soldiers were ambiguously declaring to torture, punish,
interrogate, and harm the inmates prior to interrogation. Yet, these soldiers were following the
commands of their higher authorities, that exactly being the United States of America. Obeying the
authority can sometimes be perilous, especially, when one s morals are disrupted. When you are

ABSTRACT The obligation to provide free or reduced fare travel to passengers who redeem their
accrued frequent flyer program (FFP) benefits represents a significant liability on every major U.S.

CNBC estimated that over 15 trillion frequent flyer miles were outstanding as of May 2011
(Whitman, 2011). Today, major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for FFP
liabilities for mileage credits earned by paying passengers: either the Deferred Revenue Method or
the Incremental Cost Method. The Deferred Revenue Method recognizes a liability for the fair
value of the outstanding mileage credits (with fair value defined under International Financial
Reporting Standards (IFRS) as the amount for which the award credits could be sold separately )
(KPMG, 2008). The Incremental Cost Method recognizes a liability for the marginal cost of
providing air transportation to eligible award passengers (i.e. the cost of taxes, fuel, food, etc. to
fly one additional passenger on a seat that otherwise would have been empty generally a nominal
amount). Incremental cost accounting has been subject to scrutiny several times throughout the
history of FFPs. Within the past few years airlines have reduced seating capacity due to high fuel
prices and weaker travel demand during the global economic recession, causing flights to be fuller
on average and increasing the chance that, for any given seat, a passenger flying on redeemed
frequent flyer miles could displace a fare paying passenger (notwithstanding the fact that many
airlines limit the number of seats eligible to be reserved using FFP

Research Paper On Captain Matthew Flinders
Captain Matthew Flinders (16 March 1774 19 July 1814) was one of the most successful
navigators and cartographers of his age. In a career that spanned just over twenty years, he sailed
with Captain William Bligh, circumnavigated Australia and encouraged the use of that name for
the continent. He survived shipwreck and disaster only to be imprisoned for violating the terms of
his scientific passport by changing ships and carrying prohibited papers. Matthew Flinders carried
out several important and daring voyages of discovery along coastal portions of the land now
known as Australia. Additionally he was first to prove that the eastern and western sections of
Australia were connected, and his work gave the map of Australia its present... Show more content

Flinders first trip to Port Jackson was in 1795 as a midshipman aboard HMS Reliance, carrying
the newly appointed Governor of New South Wales Captain John Hunter. In March 1800,
Flinders rejoined the Reliance which set sail for England. Flinders reached Cape Leeuwin on 6
December 1801, and proceeded to make a survey along the southern coast of the Australian
mainland. On 8 April 1802 while sailing east Flinders sighted the GГ©ographe, a French
corvette commanded by the explorer Nicolas Baudin, who was on a similar expedition for his
government. Both men of science, Flinders and Baudin met and exchanged details of their
discoveries, at what would later be named Encounter Bay. Proceeding along the coast, Flinders
explored Port Phillip, which unbeknownst to him had been discovered only 10 weeks earlier by
John Murray aboard the Lady Nelson. With stores running low, Flinders proceeded to Sydney,
arriving 9 May 1802. Having hastily prepared the ship, Flinders set sail again on 22 July, heading
north and surveying the coast of Queensland. From there he passed through the Torres Strait, and
explored the Gulf of Carpentaria. During this time, the ship was discovered to be badly leaking, and
despite careening, they were unable to affect the necessary repairs. Reluctantly, Flinders returned to
Sydney, though via the western coast, completing the

Behavior Change Project
Selecting a Student
I selected my student from one of my students that I viewed to have some of the worst behavior

student population comes from subsidized housing (the projects). I am in a first grade class of
nineteen students. While performing my duties at in Mrs. J Williams Classroom I became very
eager to observe as well as work with a student by the name of Ja Von W. Ja Von is a six year old,

technique I will record how many words he gets wrong with the tally marks on the form same as I

Developing an Intervention
The intervention I selected was Chart Moves. The way that I implemented this particular
intervention with the student is by writing his name on the poster in which I supplied. Every time
the student performed the desired behavior, which was reading fluently within two minutes and
answering post questions he would move up half a notch. With the chart, Ja Von would have the
opportunity to earn different reinforcement such as things that he was interested in or things that
he liked. I became aware of the things that he was interested in during the observation phase and
before I introduced him to the intervention, I asked him to make a list of the 10 things that he
enjoyed doing or things that he liked in general. The list included but were not limited too
cookies, candy and action figures. This gave me the opportunity to use the reinforcers as ways to
increase the desired behavior and decrease the inappropriate one. After the intervention was
introduced, it was explained to the student how it would work. Moreover, the way the system was
designed to work in the way that the student would quickly and accurately read a passage

Sex Between Children s Toys Of Non Human Primates (...
Sex differences in response to children s toys in non human primates (cereopithecus aethiops
sabaeus)
The study of sex difference in toys boys and girls tend to play wit, has always been classified as
gender socialization. According to researchers such as, Connor and Serbin, 1977; Liss, 1981, the
explained that boys favour construction and transportation toys, while girls favour doll. Research
also shows that boys do tend to be more active (Campbell and Eaton, 1999; Eaton and Enns, 1986)
and show more physical play than girls (Dipietro, 1981). These sexual characteristics of play style
is said to have derived from learning and cognitive mechanisms in association with gender
socialization. Bandura, 1977; Fagot and Hagan, 1991; Langlois and Downs, 1990 state that sex
differences in play actions and toys preference arise from modelling and reinforcement of sex
typical paly, based on learning theory. Cognitive theories connote that as children grow, they tend
to develop awareness of their gender identity, which results in a mental representation of what
gender is defined as socially, appropriate behaviour and show a positive understanding of toys and
activities associated with their individual gender (Maccoby, 1988; Martin, 1999, Martin, Wood, and
Little, 1990).
Biological factors can also influence sex difference in paly behaviour. In a research test conducted

Human Trafficking And Child Prostitution
Every person in this world has to make a living somehow. The most unprotected and risky
profession, in my opinion has to be prostitution. These men and women go to work without
knowing who they will have to deal with and what could possibly happen to them. These
individuals participate in this line of work not only to provide for themselves, but also for family
members. In essence, the government should legalize prostitutionbecause it would protect their
rights, ensure safety, and benefit their health.
I believe pushing lawmakers towards the legalization of this profession would be beneficial to sex
workers. However, many may argue about the downsides such as human trafficking and child
prostitution. This does not affect my view because if this profession is to be legal one could find,
address, and reduce or hopefully eradicate these problematic issues.
After conducting this extensive research, I believe I learned a lot about this profession. I
gathered a copious amount of information from Sources such as Vice, Whores Glory , and online
websites. These sources helped me understand the workers and what they have to face every single
day. Also letting the people who are willing to listen to know what changes should be implemented.
With these results I aim to prove why passing this law would help these individuals health and well
being. These men and women should not be looked upon differently because of the job they chose
to pursue. Anyone in this world no matter the

Essay on Analysis of The Party Is Over by Mile Lofgren
The Party is Over by Mike Lofgren goes undercover to reveal what politics is like behind the

The GOP and Republicans are a lot different in politics now than they were decades ago. The
book talks about how the Republicans are against the government, how Republicans are anti
science and anti intellectual, and also how they view religious rights. All of these lead to problems
with politics. The Democrats were brought up than the Republicans, but were still mentioned. They

Honestly, science is way more accurate than religion will ever be. It is bizarre to completely knock

affiliations. The Republican Party has been overtaken by religion sense the rise of the religious
right. The religious fundamentalism may have been the key factor in the transformation of the
Republican Party. It is the largest single bloc in their voting base. The GOP bases themselves and
others off of religious beliefs. The Party is Over states, that the Republican Party cuts slack to the
candidates that claimed to have been washed by of the lamb and reborn into a more Christian life.
From this they overlook the candidate s flaws, if they agree with the Republican Party s
fundamentalists values. I took these previous statements as an inefficient way to choose if a

misdemeanors? Robertson, the founder of the Christian Coalition stated: Those people in the
Republican primary have got to lay off this stuff. They re forcing their leaders, the front runners,

Holding True to Convictions in a World of Differences Essays
INTRODUCTION We live in a world full of people who hold different beliefs and convictions.
Many of them may even be different from our own. For example John Haught, in his book God
and the New Atheism shares his belief that, Science alone can tell us what religion is really all

Berger and Zijderveld, on the other hand, argue in In Praise of Doubt that, Whether God does or

empirical sciences: God cannot be the object of an experiment (1).

This circumvention is comparable to creationists rejecting evolution without ever having taken a
course in biology (29). Haught believes that the new atheist s theological literacy is closely related
to that of religious fundamentalists.
The new atheists scarcely notice the irony in their intolerance of religious tolerance he says, On the
one hand they bring up past inquisitions as evidence of the evils of religion, but on the other they
now excoriate theological moderates who espouse the new spirit of tolerance. Moreover, they seem
not to notice that the very same liberal tolerance in modern Western history that influenced the
Catholic Church to change its stand on religious freedom provides the cultural space and freedom
of expression by which the new atheists themselves are permitted to vent their own literalist ideas
(Haught 37, 38). Here, Haught points out the intolerance of the new atheists and one can easily see
that he does not approve.
In the book In Praise of Doubt, Berger and Zijderveld argue that it is possible for individuals to hold
moral certainty about societal values without succumbing to the extremes of either 1) the new
atheists fundamentalism (complete lack of certainty) or 2) relativism (absolute certainty). One of
their main points throughout the majority of this book is the idea that modernity leads to plurality.

How Technology Has Changed Copyright
The Creative Commons by Lawrence Lessig discusses how freedom to create has drastically
changed ever since its origin. I think this was the most interesting article I have read about
copyright. Lessig discusses the era of creativity and freedom of using one s work to create and
imagine something completely knew. The author uses Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and comics
examples to address his views regarding how the art of creativity and freedom has changed upon
the era of digital media. How technology has changed the freedom to created? One thing I was
surprised by was how many times the copyrightlaw has been altered. It used to be where copyright
material had limited time until it ended up in public domainfor others to uses. However, changes to
copyright lawthroughout the years has keep on increasing the year of ownership, which gives big
companies to monopolize. This lives no room for others to uses one s material. Automatically,
copyright law regulates essentially any creative work reduced to tangible form. (pp.6). Another
point I found interesting was how technology itself enforcing the copyright law, not the court. In
addition, technology enforcing the copyright law has its own copyright law. It is technology which
determines what your freedom is (pp.7). Even the software codes are copyrighted to protect... Show

Lessig mentions an example of this where a fan of the Sony Aibo dog alters the code to make
dog dance. He creates a website and provide others with instructions on how they can make their

Millennum Copyright Act, it is forbidden (pp.8). That s another thing, how many copyright laws

Animal Testing and The Animal Welfare Act
Many scientists claim that without animal testing, medical breakthroughs and research would not
have progressed to where it is today. Some people claim that animals do not have rights and
mankind naturally has dominion over them, making it acceptable to use them for scientific
experimentation. This is simply not true. Animals can feel pain. They can suffer. One critic of
animal testing maintains that pain is an intrinsic evil, and any act that causes pain in any other
creature is morally wrong (Andre). A scientist should not be allowed to perform any experiment on
an animal that they would not perform on a fellow humanbeing. Animal testing is not only
inhumane, it is bad science, and in light of other alternatives, it should have been halted decades
ago. Millions of people still labor under the delusion that animal experimentation is the only way to
test new medications, cosmetics, and household chemicals for human use. The media,
experimenters, universities, and lobbying groups have propagated this misconception, arguing for
the role animal testing has played in past medical advances and exaggerating the potential for it to
lead to new cures ( Animal Testing ). If people took the time to research the actual tests animals are
forced to undergo, they would be appalled by the inhumanity of the whole process. There is only
one piece of legislation in the United States that regulates animal testing in laboratories. The Animal
Welfare Act, first passed in 1966, has not

Immigration And The United States
Immigration is one of the most heated topics in the U.S. political and social agenda and usually

1.HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION
The United States of America has a rich immigration history, dating back to the 18th century, where
there were virtually no immigration restrictions, making the U.S. a kaleidoscope of ethnic and
cultural groups it is today. Following the Civil War, several U.S. states made initial attempts in
regulating immigration, which led to the 1875 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to make the
immigration a federal responsibility, thus launching a chain of Immigration laws and regulations
leading us to today.
The first immigration law, the Page Act of 1875 (aka the Asian Exclusion Act) was passed in
1875 and prohibited the importation of Asian contract workers, any Asian women who would
engage in prostitution and everybody who is considered to be a convict in their own county. The
Page Act of 1875 was followed by the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, which prohibited Chinese
contract laborers to immigrate to the United States, as well as Alien Contract Labor laws of 1885
and 1887, both of which broadened the laborers exclusion list.
Soon after, the increasingly complex immigration laws established by the federal government led to
the creation of the Office of the Superintendent of Immigration within the Treasure Department. The
newly organized government office inspected, admitted or rejected as well as processed all the
newly arriving immigrants.
January 2nd, 1892 marked the opening of the famous immigration station located on Ellis Island in

Comparison Between Roman And Modern Era
From calculating digital computations to setting the foundation of modern applications, the number
system is more relevant in life and culture than most people realize. For example, people use the
number system to organize sections and chapters from literature, keep financial affairs orderly and
neatly, and compute numerous types of everyday costs. Also, it dictates how modern applications
function and how programming languages work seamlessly. Despite these incredible
accomplishments, the world would lack all knowledge of it were it not for ancient numbersystems.
These systems include three of the most famous ones in the world: Roman numerals, Mayan
numerals, and Egyptian numerals. Through innovation, technology, and ingenuity, ancient... Show

For example: IV = 4, IX = 9, XXXIV = 34, CIX = 109, CD = 400, and MCMIV = 1904. The key to
handling this exception is to subtract the digit ahead of the power from the numeral itself [4].
Now that the basic numbers and rules have been covered, the arithmetic for addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division can be understood. To calculate addition, one must first rewrite the
numbers to arrange them in descending order after putting them together. Next, one must learn
to ignore the subtractive system and write out individual numbers when appropriate. For
example: 4 = IIII, 9 = VIIII, 34 = XXXIIII; but 3 still equals III, 6 still equals VI, and 37 still
equals XXXVII. Third, evaluating in ascending order, one must rewrite trailing I digits into a
simplified version. Finally, any further required simplification is performed. To demonstrate this,
consider two numbers in addition, 13 + 66. The numbers are written side by side (XIII + LXVI),
then put together in descending order (LXXVIIII). The four trailing I digits are rewritten as IV,
and this number is rewritten as LXXVIV. The last three digits, the VIV, is equivalent to IX (9), so
the number is rewritten one final time as LXXIX (79).
For subtraction, one must borrow numbers by marking out common symbols in the second number.
For example, LXVIII XII (68 12) =

Abstinence-Only Education In Texas
Abstinence only education . Every person has the right of balanced sex education, if they want.
Abstinence only education is not the correct approach in Texas, because the programs ignore youth

advocate contraceptive use and does not emphasize their failure rates, and virginity pledges do not

The constant pressure that the Texas government apply on the teenage population about sex before
marriage makes them think that their only solution when a teenage girl gets pregnant is abortion.
Abortion is legal and accessible in Texas, and the majority of Texas metropolitan areas have
abortion clinics. This kind of education would work better if the state chooses to teach about
contraception methods, and the importance of abstinence. The only proven method for reducing
pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease, the studies say, is to combine the abstinence message
with one that teaches young people how to protect themselves against pregnancy and disease .
However, the state opposes to teach about contraception because they do not want to give the
impression that the state supports premarital sex. This conclusion from the Texas government is
completely awful, because if the state teaches the teenage population about the importance and
usage of contraception methods many teenage pregnancies could be prevented. Contraception can
be extremely effective at preventing unwanted pregnancies when it is used consistently and
correctly. Abstinence only is not a realistic approach for everyone, because what about those
teenagers that have been sexually assaulted

Theme Of Love And Hate In 1984
Love begets hate, while hate thrives on the death of love. This relation makes them single most
powerful and destructive forces both on their own and in conjunction. The destructive and
repressive qualities are explored in the 1984 by George Orwell. The protagonist name is a
middle aged man named Winston, who lives in a totalitarian society in which most human
interactions have been dehumanized, the people are constantly monitored, and hate is the
driving force in society that is in perpetual war. It is WinstonЕ› desire for freedom and human
interaction that finds him in an affair with a young woman named Julia and a mind clouded
with rebellious thought. love and hate are used as weapons, as Winston s government creates,
manufactures, and destroys the ideas to manipulate their society. Orwell conveys Love and hate
as fickle and unreasonable emotions that carry great power yet are so easily manipulated and
swayed. Love and hate are inherently fickle as they are object of one s mind, and are in a
constant state of change, decay, and fluctuation from person to person. You can not definitively
define love, you can only ever know it in one s mind. This unfortunately leads to a flaw in that
love is an idea, an ideal, that can be manipulated as people skew its definition or condition the mind
to reassess the idea and change it. Winston s society is under constant surveillance by dual
broadcasting tvs known to them as telescreens, these devices severely inhibit their action,

Church History on Water Baptism
Church History on Water Baptism
Introduction
Baptism can be traced back to the Old Testament era during the time when the wanted to identify
themselves with the Israelites and become Jews. The word Baptize was coined from the Greek
work Bapto which basically means to immerse down in water and then pull out. Christians have
been practicing water baptism since time immemorial as a way of cleansing themselves of sins and
getting closer to Jesus Christ. Some churches require that a person must have specific qualifications
before one can perform a baptism.
However, in the Old Testament the act wasn t actually practiced as a way of repenting but rather
the Judaists saw it as a cleansing ritual. Such as when someone a person was ill they ... Show more

Instead of using water during the baptism, Holy oil was used. The priest would meet the child at
the entrance of the church and if the child had not yet been baptized, the priest would put salt in the
child s mouth as a way of exorcising demons.
At the baptismal font, the priest would anoint the child after which the child would be immersed
under water. The child after being taken out of the water would then be wrapped by the
godparents in pure christening white linen gown. The child s godparents and the sole responsibility
to look out for the child as one would to their own children. Other than looking out for the child,
the godparents were expected to teach the child prayers and even go further to teach the child on
morals and ways of conducting one in a Christian manner in the society.
The Reformation
The reformation was a movement lead by Martin Luther in the sixteenth century in Western Europe
whose main purpose was to change of the Christian beliefs that were already in place at the time.
The reformation brought about the rise of four major Protestants; Lutheranism, Calvinism,
Anglicanism and Anabaptism. All the four Protestants were in agreement that baptism of infants
was unnecessary since as a new born child one could not possibly already have faith in something.
Luther s views on water baptism was just as similar as that of the Roman Catholic church as he
believed that infant baptism was of

What comes to your mind when you think of an interaction an authoritative figure (police, teacher,

authoritative figure, especially if you are a male. The intersection of race and gender for the African
American male provides a basis for premature judgment by many authoritative figures in their lives.

Now consider the number of innocents that never get this chance at redemption. Currently the
Federal Bureau of Investigation is collecting racial and ethnic information and mapping American
communities based on crude stereotypes about which groups commit different types of crime and
sharing it with unknown state, local and federal agencies (American Civil Liberties Union,
2012). Since 9/11 the operating parameters Americans expect to protect their rights to privacy
have been obliterated. The FBI can now initiate an investigation of a person without the standards
of just cause that once protected the rights of all Americans. To the African American male this
is nothing new, random searches and undue investigations have always been a part of being an
AAM. From a police prospective there are ongoing efforts to equalize the authorities governing
the communities focused on diversifying the system and gaining trust amongst the inhabitants.
Jones Brown (2001) argues that to be black and male amounts to a fatal profile for which there
has been little to no judicial redress. She cites Natapoff (2004) in noting that one in four black
males 20 29 years of age is locked up, on probation or parole, or being pressured to snitch. The
research goes further to say that one in twelve in high crime areas are snitching under duress
causing a social breakdown of communities nationwide.

In any two locations there are just as many similarities as there are differences. Differences in
living standards, food, and transportation stand out more because they may not be as practical in a
specific location. Japan and America outdo each other in comparison and relate in so many ways
except size.
America has an abundant amount of space for expansion. New houses are being bought and land is
sold every day. An apartmentor house may have rooms ranging from none to as much as the heart

Dinner time may be the couch or the dinner table. In America a yard is cherished by some and
neglected by others. Children are driven to school or they take the bus. Community or
personnel pools may be available or spotted in some one s back yard for swimming. Due to
japans small size and rising population, space is limited. Acres of land or even a yard is hard to

Social Forces are the Forces of the environment that include the demographic characteristics of the
population and its values. (Richard J. Ch.3) The social forces can affect the conceptual framework
of marriage, education, social class, and politics. In the Nineteenth Century, many authors addressed
those social forces in forms of novels. Among those authors were William Makepeace Thackeray

Resist Much, Obey Little
Resist Much, Obey Little Kenneth M. Price asserts that Walt Whitman is a foundational figure in
American culture. This statement certainly holds true, as the transcendental father of free verse
gained his place as one of the 19th century s greatest American writers after self publishing his
most renowned work, Leaves of Grass, multiple times, each time with added pieces and revisions
of previous ones. The novel, inclusive of his widely recognized poem Song of Myself , composed
of fifty two sections, is considered an American landmark in literature. The collection offers
profound, universal ideas dealing with significant transcendental concepts such as self love,
nonconformity within a society, the ideas that God exists within everything and beyond, and that
true comprehension of life involves true appreciation of nature. Prior to his rapid gain of literary
recognition, Whitman volunteered as a nurse for the Civil War for three years. His experiences at
the hospital inspired numerous poetry and prose pieces, and he soon became certain that he could
construct more pieces out of his life changing encounters with wounded soldiers. Walt Whitmans
distinct style and technique presented in his work always leads back to the highly significant
transcendental principle of nonconformity.
A major theme that Walt Whitman conveys throughout his work is that experience is more
important than education. One way in which Whitman demonstrates this idea is in When I Heard

With the new twitter update which allows that creation of polls that users can vote in, countless

The Book Outliers The Story Of Success By Joe Flom
The story of Joe Flom incorporates many aspects of the first half of the book Outliers The Story
of Success. Malcolm Gladwell uses comparisons of other families with similarities of Flom s story
to demonstrate why he is successful. The story of Flom not only has what the previous chapters
present but also some new concepts. At the beginning of the chapter Gladwell tells the reader about
Flom s successand then jumps backwards to explain how it occurred. He also explains why some
people thrive while others do not such as lacking a certain skill or background. The first lesson
of this chapter is the importance of culture. Gladwell tells the story of one of Flom s classmates,
Alexander Bickel. Doing this shows a meaningful connection between everyone that was a
Jewish immigrant and just of a single person. This is shown by both stories being similar in the
protagonist, apart from the end result, and the denial of a first rate law firm. Therefore it is seen
as an impediment, but it is a golden opportunity (124). Because Flom was forced to start his own
firm or join a second rate one, he chose to join an up and coming new firm which he then
elevates to the top. This leap to the top happened because he was part of a newer firm. Gladwell
writes about this portion as a barrier for Flom intended to have the reader feel sorry for Flom.
However, Gladwell swings it around and states that thanks (original emphasis) to this Flom s proxy

Theme Of Identity In The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
One thing all human beings, have in common is the struggle for self identity. Children are raised
by parents or guardians who have struggled and fought for their own identities. In many cases,
parents are still trying to figure it out, while raising their own children. Such is the case with the
characters in Junot Diaz s, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. The theme of identity
is
conveyed through the characters Dominican culture, social standing, and in finding love. Oscar,
Lola, and Yunior are three central characters in Oscar Wao, who s Dominican cultural and family
expectations were major obstacles as they struggled to establish their identity. Yunior represents the
stereotypical Dominican male raised in the states, yet he battles with selfdefinition as he comes to
terms with who he is on the inside as opposed to who he is purportedly supposed to be on the
outside. According to the Dominican culture, males are the picture of masculinity, known for their
womanizing ways. The central conflict within Yunior is his love for the Dominican social norm
versus his love for the things in his life that represented nerdiness. Yunior lifted weights and ran to
keep himself physically fit and was sexually promiscuous, at the same time, he enjoyed and
engaged in nerdy banter with Oscar about science fictiongenre, anime, fantasy and even writing.

Kelley Simon s anecdote, Frank Sinatra s Gum, is a literacy narrative about an outcast teenage girl
s personal account of her riveting interview with the one and only Frank Sinatra. The narrative
illustrates Simon s internal struggle over how to successfully become part of a school clique of
girls and her external struggle with Frank Sinatra. Her motivation for the interview, her self

were unreasonable, illogical, and self centered (Simon 1). Both resorted to a physical means in
order to resolve their differences. Sinatra reminds Simon of her father, and in such a way that
allows her to admire him while she struggles with her uncertainty on whether or not she likes him.
Simon uses descriptive imagery and sensory language to allow the reader a vicarious experience.
To demonstrate how idolized Sinatra was at the

Geographically Australia is about the same size as the lower 48 United States, however the population is less than the size of Los Angeles at 23.6 million. The majority of the population is therefore grouped into the capital cities Sydney in New South Wales, Melbourne in Victoria, Adelaide in South Australia, Brisbane in Queensland, Darwin in Northern Territory, and Perth in Western Australia, Canberra in Australian Capital Territory . While Australia may be small in population, they also have a level of consumerism that equals the US, UK and other first world countries. The amount of natural resources in Australia is astounding and with the population grouped around the country its works to allow the country to utilize them as much as possible. For Australia being such a large country with many natural resources, the use of their mining industry has helped improve the economy and helped develop a stronger country. Over the past years, Australia has gone through many changes associated with their economy. In 1996, Australia was in a period of recession, but began to have economic growth in the years of 1997 through to the early 2000s. This growth was due to the weakening of the Australia dollar causing an increase in market shares for Australia exports. Bob Dylan Bob Dylan: An Influence for a Generation A person is a success if they get up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between dose what he wants to do words spoken by the singer /songwriter Bob Dylan. Being a man of success himself, yet a very humble and simple man, changed the way people view musical quality. Dylan was awarded with the number one song in the twentieth century with those lyrics from his masterpiece Like a Rolling Stone, by Rolling Stone Magazine. His poetic words were heard all across the world, inspiring all who heard his voice. Telling tales of political and civil injustice, Dylan s words brought normal everyday life a new sense of hope through tough times in a person s life. Discussed will be the early era... He wanted to be a socially conscious singer/composer just like Guthrie (Heatly, 126). As the times changed, Dylan became a musical chameleon. He was able to conform to the changes in the popularity in music. Dylan s career started with folk and protest music in the early 1960 s then moved through to electrified folk rock in the mid and late 1960 s and early 1970 s (Kamin). After the Civil Rights, most fans found Dylan s folk music more admiring and significant than anything he had ever wrote; popularity formed by creating the raw sounding combo of vocals, harmonica and guitar. That mixture alone has kept his music career last him forty seven years (Rathbone). Dylan did not want to stop there; he wanted to evolve into the new generation of music. Dylan cross pollinated folk and country music with electric rock, creating an entirely new dimension of popular music (Heatly, 126). He liked to mix sounds and experiment different styles to meet his high expectations of creativity. He created the new style called folk rock mixing his original folk sound but began to play electric guitar to embrace rock and roll (Dylan). Some Dylan fans did not approve of his switch but happened to still remained a musical sensation with a wider audience. Dylan and his band also caused an uproar at the Newport Folk Festival in July of 1965, when they began to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Proton- Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) Essay A H2/O2 protonв€’exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is a clean, sustainable energy source and suitable for the operation of small electronic device [1]. Among many problems that still exist for PEMFC, the sluggish reactions at the cathode electrode and poor mass transport of protons and electron decrease the fuel cell performance by increasing the activation overvoltage, or activation loss [2]. This problem can, however, be solved by raising the fuel cell operating temperature [3], but only up to a certain temperature before the deformation or degradatation of polymeric components occurs. Thus, the reduction in the activation overvoltage for low temperature fuel cell operation is still necessary when the PEMFC components are made of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Epichlorohydrin is suitable to be used as a crosslinking agent for crosslinking chitosan as it only reacts with the hydroxyl groups of chitosan, leaving the primary amine groups free to bind with protons or water molecules (both of which contribute to the proton mitigation). What Are The Benefits Of African American Studies There are multiple factors that differentiate the history and experience of African Americans from those of Asian, Hispanic and Native Americans. First African Americans were involuntary immigrated to the United States by traders looking to exploit them as a commodity to promote slavery. Unlike African Americans most ethnic groups immigrated here voluntary for economic and political freedom. Also while some of these groups were discriminated against their was a intensive effort to erase African culture from the minds of African Americans. Forcing them to abandon their language, history, culture and ancestral ties, to the europeans they were nothing, but a piece of property. Then after their past had been striped from them, African Americans were contintually taken advantage by whites to stay above them and not allow them to move up society. The Anterior Cruciate Ligament ( Acl ) The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is regarded as critical to the normal functioning of the knee, its disruption causing functional impairment, meniscal lesions, and the early onset of joint degeneration (Daniel 1994). The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee originates from the anterior aspect of the tibial plateau, inserting on the lateral femoral condyle. The ligament resists anterior translation and medial rotation of the tibia to the femur (Dai, 2012). Injury of the ACL is now the most common ligamentous injury of the knee and accounts for about 30 injuries per 100,000 of the population (Irrgang, 1996). Over time it became apparent that multiple variables act in combination to influence ACL injury risk(Wojtys, 2003). Risk... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No definitive management strategy exists for patients with this injury, a case particularly evident when deciding between conservative rehabilitation and reconstruction, and between methods of reconstruction (Risberg, 2001a). Healing properties of the ACL are poor due to inadequate vascularity, owing to and its presence within the synovial fluid (Freeman, 2007). Currently, ACL reconstruction is most often performed using an arthroscopically assisted technique (Irrgang, 1996). For the past two decades, the gold standard in ACL reconstructions has been the patellar tendon graft from the middle third of the patella tendon(Keays, 2001), but increasingly the Hamstring graft has been used. This shift in popularity has occurred for several reasons, including, concerns about damaging the knee extensor apparatus using the patella tendon procedure and the potential for subsequent anterior knee pain, patella fracture, ligament rupture, and infra patella contraction(Beard, 2001). The semi tendinosus tendon with or without the gracilis tendon is harvested, typically from the ipsilateral leg. The resultant tissue is fashioned into a four strand graft which is then used to reconstruct the ACL (Daniel, 2014). This review of literature is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are central questions in the field of business ethics. There are two approaches to answering such questions. The first one is Milton Friedman s shareholdertheory of managementand the second one is Edwards Freeman s Stakeholder theory of management, two different views about the purpose and aims of a business. Milton Friedman s shareholder theory of management says that the purpose of a business is to make money for the owner or the stockholders of the business. In my opinion I believe that both theories have their own advantages and disadvantages and every business has to follow a theory that complies with its goal, when in my case I would rather follow the theory of Freeman in one extend. Friedman s position we can see it as a theory for short term investment and businesses, while Freeman s theory targets businesses that are planning to stay for a longer term. Also I believe that Friedman s theory affects society in an inefficient way when costs are not really paid, as for example pollution, traffic congestion, no taxes, and poorly educated workforce. • 12. The During The Progressive Era During the Progressive Era, various groups responded to the political, social, and economic woes that resulted from the rapid industrialization and urbanization of America during the 19th Century. The mass immigration of foreigners and the northern migration of Africa Americans led to urban overcrowding and competition for wage paying jobs. Electric lighting allowed factories to expand the working hours and increase the output of manufactured goods. There was little regulation for employee welfare and many men, women, and children toiled long hours in unsafe factory conditions. Expanding communications through the widespread use of telephones, magazines, and newspapers brought the plight of the poor and oppressed to middle class America. Improving personal economics allowed these reformers to think less about personal issues and more about society at large. These middle class Americans led a social movement to cope with the problems associated with rapid industrialization in the 19th Century by bettering society through governmental, business, and social reform. Reform of government, which had become increasingly corrupt through political machines and special interest groups, was one focus of the progressive movement. Because government officials often aligned themselves with big business or bought their way into office, the American public lost faith in the integrity of politicians. • 13. Authority Is A Fundamental Part Of Life Essay Authority is a fundamental part of life. It is utilized in both micro and macro ways, such as it being used in a particular group of individuals or a mass society. In order for society to function, some aspect of authority is required. Police officers use authority to maintain order and obedience throughout communities. Parents possess characteristics of authority in order to teach children right from wrong. As well as, teachers are considered authority figures since they need to control and maintain obediencein the classroom. Authority cannot exist without obedience. Society is developed on this notion. Without authority, and its required obedience, disorder and disruption would occur. But how much obedience to authority is necessary? When is it too much or too little? Authority figures hold such power, that it quite often becomes abused. We can relate back to these questions by looking into the novel, Crimes of Power and States of Impunity , and connecting it with the element of the chain of command. Often, higher authority individuals abuse their powers, just like those involved in the scandal at Abu Ghraib. The American Soldiers were ambiguously declaring to torture, punish, interrogate, and harm the inmates prior to interrogation. Yet, these soldiers were following the commands of their higher authorities, that exactly being the United States of America. CNBC estimated that over 15 trillion frequent flyer miles were outstanding as of May 2011 (Whitman, 2011). Today, major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for FFP liabilities for mileage credits earned by paying passengers: either the Deferred Revenue Method or the Incremental Cost Method. The Deferred Revenue Method recognizes a liability for the fair value of the outstanding mileage credits (with fair value defined under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as the amount for which the award credits could be sold separately ) (KPMG, 2008). The Incremental Cost Method recognizes a liability for the marginal cost of providing air transportation to eligible award passengers (i.e. the cost of taxes, fuel, food, etc. to fly one additional passenger on a seat that otherwise would have been empty generally a nominal amount). Incremental cost accounting has been subject to scrutiny several times throughout the history of FFPs. Within the past few years airlines have reduced seating capacity due to high fuel prices and weaker travel demand during the global economic recession, causing flights to be fuller on average and increasing the chance that, for any given seat, a passenger flying on redeemed frequent flyer miles could displace a fare paying passenger (notwithstanding the fact that many airlines limit the number of seats eligible to be reserved using FFP ... Sex differences in response to children s toys in non human primates (cereopithecus aethiops sabaeus) The study of sex difference in toys boys and girls tend to play wit, has always been classified as gender socialization. According to researchers such as, Connor and Serbin, 1977; Liss, 1981, the explained that boys favour construction and transportation toys, while girls favour doll. Research also shows that boys do tend to be more active (Campbell and Eaton, 1999; Eaton and Enns, 1986) and show more physical play than girls (Dipietro, 1981). These sexual characteristics of play style is said to have derived from learning and cognitive mechanisms in association with gender socialization. Some people claim that animals do not have rights and mankind naturally has dominion over them, making it acceptable to use them for scientific experimentation. This is simply not true. Animals can feel pain. They can suffer. One critic of animal testing maintains that pain is an intrinsic evil, and any act that causes pain in any other creature is morally wrong (Andre). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example: IV = 4, IX = 9, XXXIV = 34, CIX = 109, CD = 400, and MCMIV = 1904. The key to handling this exception is to subtract the digit ahead of the power from the numeral itself [4]. Now that the basic numbers and rules have been covered, the arithmetic for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division can be understood. To calculate addition, one must first rewrite the numbers to arrange them in descending order after putting them together. Next, one must learn to ignore the subtractive system and write out individual numbers when appropriate. For example: 4 = IIII, 9 = VIIII, 34 = XXXIIII; but 3 still equals III, 6 still equals VI, and 37 still equals XXXVII. Third, evaluating in ascending order, one must rewrite trailing I digits into a simplified version. Finally, any further required simplification is performed. To demonstrate this, consider two numbers in addition, 13 + 66. The numbers are written side by side (XIII + LXVI), then put together in descending order (LXXVIIII). The four trailing I digits are rewritten as IV, and this number is rewritten as LXXVIV. The last three digits, the VIV, is equivalent to IX (9), so the number is rewritten one final time as LXXIX (79). For subtraction, one must borrow numbers by marking out common symbols in the second number. For example, LXVIII XII (68 12) = ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The constant pressure that the Texas government apply on the teenage population about sex before marriage makes them think that their only solution when a teenage girl gets pregnant is abortion. Abortion is legal and accessible in Texas, and the majority of Texas metropolitan areas have abortion clinics. This kind of education would work better if the state chooses to teach about contraception methods, and the importance of abstinence. The only proven method for reducing pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease, the studies say, is to combine the abstinence message with one that teaches young people how to protect themselves against pregnancy and disease . However, the state opposes to teach about contraception because they do not want to give the impression that the state supports premarital sex. This conclusion from the Texas government is completely awful, because if the state teaches the teenage population about the importance and usage of contraception methods many teenage pregnancies could be prevented. Contraception can be extremely effective at preventing unwanted pregnancies when it is used consistently and correctly. This relation makes them single most powerful and destructive forces both on their own and in conjunction. The destructive and repressive qualities are explored in the 1984 by George Orwell. The protagonist name is a middle aged man named Winston, who lives in a totalitarian society in which most human interactions have been dehumanized, the people are constantly monitored, and hate is the driving force in society that is in perpetual war. It is WinstonЕ› desire for freedom and human interaction that finds him in an affair with a young woman named Julia and a mind clouded with rebellious thought. love and hate are used as weapons, as Winston s government creates, manufactures, and destroys the ideas to manipulate their society. Orwell conveys Love and hate as fickle and unreasonable emotions that carry great power yet are so easily manipulated and swayed. Love and hate are inherently fickle as they are object of one s mind, and are in a constant state of change, decay, and fluctuation from person to person. You can not definitively define love, you can only ever know it in one s mind. This unfortunately leads to a flaw in that love is an idea, an ideal, that can be manipulated as people skew its definition or condition the mind to reassess the idea and change it. The reformation brought about the rise of four major Protestants; Lutheranism, Calvinism, Anglicanism and Anabaptism. • 33. Resist Much, Obey Little Resist Much, Obey Little Kenneth M. Price asserts that Walt Whitman is a foundational figure in American culture. This statement certainly holds true, as the transcendental father of free verse gained his place as one of the 19th century s greatest American writers after self publishing his most renowned work, Leaves of Grass, multiple times, each time with added pieces and revisions of previous ones. The novel, inclusive of his widely recognized poem Song of Myself , composed of fifty two sections, is considered an American landmark in literature. The collection offers profound, universal ideas dealing with significant transcendental concepts such as self love, nonconformity within a society, the ideas that God exists within everything and beyond, and that true comprehension of life involves true appreciation of nature. Prior to his rapid gain of literary recognition, Whitman volunteered as a nurse for the Civil War for three years. His experiences at the hospital inspired numerous poetry and prose pieces, and he soon became certain that he could construct more pieces out of his life changing encounters with wounded soldiers. Walt Whitmans distinct style and technique presented in his work always leads back to the highly significant transcendental principle of nonconformity. A major theme that Walt Whitman conveys throughout his work is that experience is more important than education. One way in which Whitman demonstrates this idea is in When I Heard the Learn d ... Malcolm Gladwell uses comparisons of other families with similarities of Flom s story to demonstrate why he is successful. The story of Flom not only has what the previous chapters present but also some new concepts. At the beginning of the chapter Gladwell tells the reader about Flom s successand then jumps backwards to explain how it occurred. He also explains why some people thrive while others do not such as lacking a certain skill or background. The first lesson of this chapter is the importance of culture. Gladwell tells the story of one of Flom s classmates, Alexander Bickel. Doing this shows a meaningful connection between everyone that was a Jewish immigrant and just of a single person. This is shown by both stories being similar in the protagonist, apart from the end result, and the denial of a first rate law firm. Therefore it is seen as an impediment, but it is a golden opportunity (124). Because Flom was forced to start his own firm or join a second rate one, he chose to join an up and coming new firm which he then elevates to the top. This leap to the top happened because he was part of a newer firm. Gladwell writes about this portion as a barrier for Flom intended to have the reader feel sorry for Flom. Kelley Simon s anecdote, Frank Sinatra s Gum, is a literacy narrative about an outcast teenage girl s personal account of her riveting interview with the one and only Frank Sinatra. The narrative illustrates Simon s internal struggle over how to successfully become part of a school clique of girls and her external struggle with Frank Sinatra. Her motivation for the interview, her self identity, and her ultimate decision all play a part in her methods. She uses rhetorical devices throughout the autobiographical sketch of Sinatra that help portray her true feelings.
