Disclosure Research Paper
Some agree that the term disclosure is known as the action of making new or secret information
known, while others, particularly in the electronic dance music scene, provide a whole other meaning.
Two brothers, Howard and Guy Lawrence, make up the English electronic music duo known as
Disclosure. Popularized for making pop structured songs in the style of house music and garage, this
brotherly duo has quickly tapped in to the fan base of electronic dance music fans worldwide; creating
a demand for more styles similar to Disclosure s. Who would have thought that the blend between
pop, house, and garage music would become such a hit? But with a name just of that of Disclosure s
there is no doubt that the duo has brewed up some new beats that fans will be longing to give a listen
to. There is much reason why the second studio album released, Caracal, on September 25, 2015 was
nominated for Best Dance/ Electronica Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Three songs from the
album stuck out to me tracks two, three, and seven. More commonly known as Omen, Holding On,
and Magnets. The first song, Omen, features Sam Smith while the brothers, Disclosure, provide the
almost seductive keyboard track that Smith takes control of, incorporating stimulating vocals while
narrating a story that conveys the analogy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Porter s jazz influence gives the song a warmer feel; while the rich, smooth tones of Disclosure s
computerized electronic beats, become balanced with Porter s more natural and humanly touch. This
song tells the story of a girl named Mariela, who helps a group of rebels take back a city from an army
of soldiers. Holding On, displays the artistic ability of Disclosure to stay faithful to their formula for
beats while also managing to launch their music steadfastly into the future by adding new elements to
the song

A Report On Micro Farming
The last four week our group has been tasked with looking into and researching micro farming in a
small enclosed area of a greenhouse in mills wyoming we had four weeks to research and build a
prototype of a micro farm with the dimensions 2 x 2 or 24in x 24in by however tall we would like to
make we can not use sprouted plants we have to start with seeds. We had a set budget of xxxx. Our
goal was to grow as many food calorie wise from september to december but we could not modify the
farm after a certain date other than like watering or other basic maintenance. In this paper i will be
going over topics including cycles for growing plants and what is required for plants to grow. What

Which also used for energy in the plant to grow Continuing i will be talking about the carbon cycle.
Now the carbon cycle. The carbon cycle starts with carbon atoms being absorbed in the water soil or
living things (ex plants animals etc.). It then when the said thing is burned or decomposed the carbon
is released back to be reabsorbed. Or when a living creature it pulls in o2 with C and then when it
exhales it creates Co2 which then is absorbed in plants to create glucose in the process refer to image
above. But when trees and stuff are burned or animals are caught in fires it releases C or carbon. back
into the Atmosphere where it is restarted.
Next is the oxygen cycle. Where oxygen is taken and turned by animals into co2 plants then take it
and turn it into o2 where it is released where is is either absorbed by the atmosphere where it will stay
for 4500 years or turn into o3 ozone, the biosphere where it will stay for 50 years ,the lithosphere
where it will stay for 500,000,000 years, and last the hydrosphere. after it is released it will cycle
again and find a new place to populate. oxygen is used in plants in the form of co2 and h2o to form the
photosynthesis equation to create energy. Which it then uses to grow while outputting o2 or oxygen
makes up 20% of our atmosphere. Next i will be covering the nitrogen cycle
The nitrogen cycle starts with atmospheric nitrogen. Where it then gets absorbed into the soil. Where a

Differences Between Minority And Minority Groups
Abstract
This study explores the relationships between majority and minority groups and their awareness of
blatant and subtle prejudice, by priming either common or dual identity. It was hypothesized that due
to their marginalization, minority groups will be more aware of both subtle and blatant prejudice and
that those primed with dual identity will show a similar heightened awareness. The results
demonstrated that majority groups were more aware of both types of prejudice, contradicting many
previous results in this area. This study was conducted on an Australian population, making it unique,
and possibly explaining the contrary results. However, it has also been suggested that the social stigma
surrounding racism in our society has increased the awareness by majority groups, as they strive to be
politically correct and avoid judgment by their peers. Another worthy discussion point is the
internalization of prejudice by minority groups living in a majority dominated society.
How Common and Dual Identity Can Influence Majority and Minority Awareness of Subtle and
Blatant Prejudice
In modern society, prejudiced ideas and values are present amongst majority dominated societies
(Banaji Devos, 2005). Minority groups, and individuals with a heightened sense of cultural affiliation
to their ethnicity, have been shown to be more aware of subtle prejudice than majority groups
(Operario Fiske, 2001). Previous research in the area of racial prejudice has also

Carol Greider s Discovery Of The Enzyme Telomerase
Carol w Greider is the person who discovered the enzyme telomerase, which is the DNA that holds the
secrets to how we age and get cancer. In the essay I will also be talking about the personal life and the
life as a scientist of Carol Greider. Another thing I will be talking about in the essay is how people
have used her discovery in science. I will also be talking about how people have used the enzyme
telomerase to try and find out the secrets to how we age and get cancer. But that s the cool part, how
can something like that be what causes us to age and get cancer.
Carol W Greider was born on April 15, 1961 in San Diego, California, she is still alive to this day and
she is currently 54 years of age. She married Nathaniel c. Comfort, he was also a fellow academic in
1992, they had two children together. She is sadly now divorced, but before their children were born
she competed in some cool competitions and stunts. Those stunts were triathlons, biking, running, and
swam for fitness. Some of her notable awards are the Richard Lounsbery Award, Lasker Award,
Louisa Gross Horwitz prize, and the nobel prize in Physiology or medicine.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Node. Js
SP15 BCS 055 6A COURSEASSIGNMENT3
1) NODE.Js:
It is an open source framework and a server side platform. It responds to actions generated by the user
so it provides an event driven environment. Node.js uses asynchronous programming which means
that when a task is sent to the system, the server does not wait for API to return data and it does not
even block it. Else, it gets ready to handle the request and moves to the next API, and when the file
has been read (event) by the system, it responds to the client. Node.js does not support the buffering of
data; it sends the output in chunks which makes it fast in executing the code as well as memory
efficient.
Node.js applications are written in JavaScript. It also provides a library of JavaScript ... Show more

JSON stands for JavaScript Object Notation. It is very easy to use, read and write since it uses
JavaScript syntax but in Text Format which makes it very easy to change any JS object (form of text)
into JSON and vice versa and send/receive to/from the server; known as data interchange language.
JSON does not depend on the language as it uses the text format and text is not restricted to any
particular programming language. It can easily convert a string from JSON format into JavaScript

Scapegoat Research Paper
A scapegoat is someone or something that receives all the blame for when something goes wrong.
Scapegoats have been humanity s way of pointing the finger and ignoring any wrongdoing that may
have led to a failure. No one ever wants to take responsibility when a failure occurs, but there s always
someone around to take the glory if success is achieved. Historically speaking, scapegoats were more
of a reason people used to do bad things. Hitler, for instance, used the Jewish religion and people who
practiced it in his country as his scapegoat for trying to achieve domination. No one wants to gain the
responsibility and criticism that comes with failure, but appointing a scapegoat seems to be the easy
way of dealing with it. In ancient societies, scapegoats were very popular and there were even specific
animals and people who would be sacrificed if something went wrong. I think that was done more as
part of religious practice, but the idea of a scapegoat taking the blame still stands. The people would
most likely have been criminals or problematic people in the society and who would easily be
accepted as a scapegoat for any failures experienced. As time continued, scapegoats were not as ...

Role of Gender in the Book of Genesis and Theogony. Essay
The roles that men and women play tend to differ in different works of literature. The roles depend on
the culture and the context of a particular work of literature, and even the time the work of literature
was written. For instance the roles of gender will differ from African culture to American culture, as
well as from ancient America and Modern America. Old stories such as the Book of Genesis and
Theogony portray different roles men and men play. Most of these roles are similar in both books, and
a few are different.
From the Book of Genesis we can observe the male role of domination. In this book a man was
created before a woman and was given domination over all creations upon the earth. God said, Let us
make a man in our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1: 5 10), God gave the same authority to Adam to name the leaving creatures that were Gods
creations. He even named the woman created from the bone of his rib (Gen. 2: 22 23). Also, the
command of not eating from the tree of life and the tree of knowledge was given to Adam without the
presence of woman (Gen. 2: 16 17), meaning the male had the important role of passing this message
to the female.
Males authority is also clearly visible in Theogony. In this text all major duties and decisions are made
by the male God (Zeus), while there are also goddesses who could have made those decisions. Hesiod
writes that, He [Zeus] has appointed their [Muses ] ordinances to the immortals, well in each detail,
and assigned them their privileges (Hesiod, pg 4). He further explains that the kings were the ones that
made important judgments and settled disputes whenever the need to do so arises. Moreover, Hesiod
tells that When he [king] goes among a gathering, they seek his favour with conciliatory reverence, as
if he was a God, and he stands out among the crowd (Hesiod, pg. 5). This portrays a male as a superior
being and a ruler.
The important role of female even in today s society is to be a mother and child bearer. This role can
be observed in the Book of Genesis. Eve gives birth to three sons and the role continues throughout
the text (Gen. 3: 1). And the females who could not conceive would pray to God to give them the
ability to conceive (Gen. 30:23)
This role can

How Does Marat Use Art As Propaganda
On July 13, 1793, a young Royalist by the name of Charlotte Corday managed to gain entry into
French revolutionary leader Jean Paul Marat s apartment. As the well known writer had agreed to
receive her, she proceeded to stab and kill him when he was most vulnerable, in his bathtub. This was
where he was accustomed to sitting hour after hour treating the disfiguring skin disease from which he
suffered. The disease is thought of to be dermatitis herpetiformis, a rare ailment where the sufferer
lives with chronic, very itchy skin rashes made up of bumps and blisters. A traumatic political
assassination was carried out by a woman and only added fuel to the revolutionary fire. The Death of
Marat has been forever captured by Jacques Louis David as a famous work of art which now resides
within the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. Further examining this piece shows how the work
of art was used as propaganda during its time period. Looking at the piece it s clear that Marat is

any connection towards the assassin almost completely erases her from the picture. Rather than place
the attention on her, he shines a light on Marat, allowing him to show a gentler side to the man. The
only piece of furniture in the room beside the bathtub itself is the writer s makeshift writing table
which at the bottom had something very interesting on it written in french. On the bottom of the

Sexual Harassment At The Civil Rights Act
With such practices agencies protect not only the victims rights but also evidence that is later used in
cases. This stratifies Miranda Rights actives that have grave concern for the effect... that the individual
may not be compelled to incriminate himself (Linkins, 2007). This practice also satisfies the State,
who has interest in protecting clear evidence of proper due process procedures and statements given.
In instances where states aim to protect victims under different circumstances, for example individuals
using cameras to harass others; states must adapt and utilizes laws already at their disposal.
18 USC § 2510 2516 addresses wire tapping and privies protection against illegally tapping someone s
telephone, and 47 USC § 223 of the Communication Decency Act prohibits interstate or foreign
telecommunications that is used with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass another... Title 42
of the Civil Rights Act may be utilized to address online victimization. This statute has been
interpreted to prohibit sexual harassment in work environments (Southworth, Finn, Dawson, Fraser,
Tucker, 2007).
States can utilize other statues in an effort to protect victims. Such statues can be applied to cameras,
invasion of privacy, and even stalking attempts where cameras and such devices are used. The need
for exact laws with cameras is sometimes clear but how and what statues are not always so.
Cameras and Future Laws Cameras, and other forms of technology, are

Potato Catalase Lab Report
The scientific purpose of this experiment was to examine the rate of enzyme activity of a potato

concentration, 2.5 ml of 15% salt concentration, or 2.5 ml of 30% salt concentration. It was
hypothesized that the higher the concentration of salt each catalysts solution contained, the rate of
enzyme activity would decrease when applied to hydrogen peroxide. This was tested by measuring (up
to 240 seconds) in room temperature of 21 degrees Celsius how long it would take for each filter disk

Human Rights Act And Discrimination In Canada
The purpose of the Canadian human rights act is to prohibit discrimination in public situation based on
the number of grounds. Discrimination does not have behaviour intentionally to be against the act. In
other word, even if someone responsible for the action/comment that he/she did not mean, it is still
discrimination against the law. Discrimination in the work place means an employer/employee has an
action or a decision that effect a person in negative/unfair treatment based on grounds. For example,
firing a woman from a job because she has mental disability and paying differently between a man and
a woman in the same job. People in Canada are from different countries and have multi culture.

Revenge In The Film Gladiator
For almost three thousand years, revenge has been a central preoccupation of European literature. ( #2
) Even today we as students of the world see Aristotle s influence around us. Especially in the forms of
entertainment that we seek, such as movies. The film Gladiator contains the need for revenge; just like
the many European literatures before its time. It also follows Aristotle s guidelines of tragedy. The
protagonist, Maximus, suffers from a thirst of revenge for the murderer of his family. As the audience
watches this film they are taken through a roller coaster of emotion such as, sympathy for Maximus
and fear for his defeat. In the film Gladiator, written by Ridley Scott, follows Aristotle s guide to
tragedy by depicting the protagonist s fatal flaw of vengefulness, the audience s emotions of fear and
pity while watching this film. Throughout the course of the film it is obvious that Maximus s need to
avenge the death of his wife and child is the driving force behind his actions, and inevitable death.
After a crucial change in power for the Roman empire, General Maximus Decimus Meridius is put
into a tough situation. The new Caesar holds a grudge against Maximus and takes it out on his wife
and son, creating a storm of rage within the Roman General. Driven by his need for blood, Maximus
uses his newfound life as a Gladiator to get close to the emperor. Near the end of the film Maximus
and the emperor finally clash, and the duel brings about the death of each

Japanese Internment In Canada
Japanese internment plays a big role in Canada s history. Canada s reputation for being nice and polite
is questioned by the internment of Japanese and Japanese Canadians during World War Two. With a
review of the past, it is absolute that the internment of the Japanese people in Canada was not
justified. Internment caused more problems than it solved as it ruined relations between Japanese
people in Canada and other Canadians, it ruined the futures of all Japanese descendants in Canada and
innocent Japanese Canadians were taken from their homes and families and put into the camps.
Though relations between white Canadians and Japanese in Canada were not great, internment created
anger and hatred on both sides. Most politicians in the time period ... Show more content on

When the government first started to distrust the Japanese people in Canada, measures were put in
place which marked the first steps of interment. Almost 22,000 of the approximately 24,000 people of
Japanese descent living in Canada were removed from their homes and distributed to various locations
across Canada. Seventy five percent were Canadian citizens. ( World War II Internment , n.d.) This is
the result of the government creating a protected zone [160 km from B.C. coast] which forced all
Japanese descendants out of that area. Many of these people moved were innocent first generation
Canadians, still, they were treated as enemies and moved away. The Japanese being moved sparked
debate about whether or not internment was justifiable. Canadian military officials and the RCMP felt
that the Japanese Canadian population posed no threat and opposed taking any punitive action against
them. (McRae, 2017) While most politicians and most white Canadians saw the Japanese in Canada as
threats, some saw it as putting innocent and harmless Canadians in internment camps. Looking back,
those who believed the Japanese people in Canada were innocent were correct. Their actions were
monitored; their rights suspended. Yet no hearings or trials were ever held and no charges of treason
were ever laid ( Facts Figures , 2011) The politicians and white

numerous, from his early family life living on a farm, his interest and involvement in theology and his
formative professional career. One incident which appears to have had a particular impact on Carl
Rogers was when working in his first job as a psychologist, at Rochester New York, for an
organisation for the prevention of cruelty to children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These correct conditions which are required within person centred therapy in order that the client can
achieve self actualisation and personality change were outlined by Carl Rogers and he believed that if
this 6 conditions were met, it would facilitate change within the client: Two persons are in
psychological contact both client and counsellor are present physically and psychologically. The client
is in a state of incongruence, (which will be discussed in more detail) the communication of the
counsellor s empathetic understanding and unconditional positive regard is met at a minimal level.
The last condition mentioned involves 3 other conditions, which are essential attitudes and qualities
necessary for the counsellor to posses for successful therapy; empathic understanding, unconditional
positive regard and congruence. (Rogers C, 1957).
Before looking at the latter 3 in more detail, it is important to understand Carl Rogers s view of the
person and perhaps what is ultimately bringing the client to therapy. Carl Rogers believed that there is
incongruence between the self that is the actualisation part, that has a desire to grow, is open to
experiencing in the moment and ultimately psychological well being and the actual experience of the
self. He believed this effect was caused

Examples Of Satire In Candide
Danisa Quezada
English 10

Ms. Kalick/Carlton Candide s Garden Candide is a satire written by Voltaire. Voltaire wrote it to poke
fun at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz s idea of philosophical optimism, the belief that we live in the best of
all worlds. Voltaire disagreed with this philosophy, a philosophy which Dr. Pangloss, a character from
the satire, strongly believes in. Another philosophy that is stated in the satire is Candide s, but let us
cultivate our garden . To cultivate [a] garden means to improve ourselves through open mindedness
and adaptation. One way you can improve yourself is by being open to new ideas. Candide does this
throughout the whole novella. At the beginning, Candide blindly follows Dr. Pangloss s ... Show more

The old woman is the quintessence of a fighter I caught [the plague] it. Imagine to yourself the
distressed situation of the daughter of a Pope, only fifteen years old, who, in less than three months,
had felt the miseries of poverty and slavery, had been ravished almost every day, had beheld her
mother drawn in quarters, had experienced famine and war, and was dying of the plague in Algiers .
The old woman was born the daughter of a Pope and lived in great wealth until she was about 15 years
old. After her ship gets taken over by pirates her life goes downhill from there, she is raped sees her
mother get killed, loses her love and catches the plague but is still able to say A hundred times I was
upon the point of killing myself; but still I loved life . Another fighter is Cunegonde, who has a similar
story to the old woman. I was in bed and fast asleep when it pleased God to send the Bulgarians to our
delightful castle of Thunder ten Tronckh; they slew my father and brother, and cut my mother in
pieces. A tall Bulgarian, six feet high, perceiving that I had fainted away at this sight, began to ravish

Preparation Of Scarification And Stratification
Started this experiment on February 25th and we gathered all our results on May 3rd 2016. When we
started we tested Redbuds in 4 treatments and tested Peaches in 3 treatments. For the Redbuds, we did
a control group with nothing but wrapping it with a paper towel and storing it into a Ziploc bag. Then
we soaked redbuds in sulfuric acid without promix, and soaked them with sulfuric acid with promix
(not moist), and then for the last lot we wrapped redbuds with moist promix. For peaches we also had
a control group with just storing them in a Ziploc bag, and for the second lot we placed that seeds in
moist promix in a cooler. Finally, for the third lot we soaked the seeds in water for a week and added
moist promix and then placed in the cooler. As a result, to this experiment of scarification and
stratification we have seen that lot 3 for Redbuds (scarification) germinated 16/40, which is a good
amount of germination. For stratification with the peaches only lot 2 germinated 1/20 which was more
than the other lots.
Introduction:
Scarification in botany involves weakening, opening, or otherwise altering the coat of a seed to
encourage germination. Scarification is often done mechanically, thermally, and chemically. The seeds
of many plant species are often impervious to water and gases, thus preventing or delaying
germination. Any process designed to make the testa (seed coat) more permeable to water and gases
(and thus more likely to germinate) is known as scarification.

Analysis Of Spike Lee s Do The Right Thing
The art of storytelling is a primary foundation for human communication and understanding. Whether
it is through myths Greek, Roman, Egyptian, you pick or wives tales or even Grandpa telling his old
war stories, stories have power. Through technological advancements in the last 150+ years, there are
multiple mediums to tell stories; film being the most potent medium used. Film has the power to not
only entertain but enlighten too. Filmmakers have the ability to challenge and manipulate the power of
the story through creative resistance; by exploring other elements of storytelling: location, voice,
color, angles, rhythm, language, filmmakers can create dramatically different films out of the same
story. Many of these filmmakers, through the feminist movement, have taken Hollywood by storm.
There are many individuals that believe the feminist movement is a woman s movement to further the
female agenda and while, it is true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

against; in the way that Johnston, Haskell, Rosen, Williams, etc., all discuss what it was to be a
woman in Hollywood, omitting the way African American s were also poorly treated and often
vilified, the Caucasian suppressors in this film forget about the success of the Civil Rights movement

The Importance Of Civil Engineering
When you hear of the word engineering, what comes to mind? Do you think of a train engine rolling
over the plains of South Dakota? Maybe you think of a bridge or a road? If you thought of either of
those things, you are correct. Furthermore, Civil Engineering is all of these things and a little more.
Civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering discipline. It deals with the built environment and
can be dated to the first time someone placed a roof over his or her head or laid a tree trunk across a
river to make it easier to get across (Civil Engineering). Some of the first ever examples of the civil
engineering was the roof and the bridge. Eventually, our knowledge and tools advanced to enhance the
durability and aestheticism of roads, bridges, and buildings. In addition to roads and bridges, civil
engineering also deals with planes, cars, and boats as well.
In order to become a civil engineer or any job, for instance, you must study and become a perfectionist
in that field. Studying in the school of engineering does not focus on just one subject of study. To put
differently, to become a professional in the job of an engineer you must excel in mathematics. Math is
one of the largest staples in engineering, architecture, and business. Diving deeper, at Iowa State
University Calculus 1 and 2 are two required courses to be taken in order to continue in the path of
engineering. In order to build the building that is aesthetically and structurally sufficient engineers

Oedipus The King Research Paper
Tragedies are events that cause great suffering, distress, and destruction, such as a serious accident,
crime or natural catastrophe. One example of a tragedy is Oedipus The King, written by Sophocles
around 441 B.C. Many events in this tragedy take place and cause the main character, Oedipus, to
reach his downfall. Oedipus intelligence, pursuit of truth, and hot temper all contribute to his
downfall. Oedipus intelligence is one thing that leads to his downfall. When Oedipus first came to
Thebes he had solved the riddle of the sphinx. Because of this, the Priest had come to him and asked
him to help them with the plague that has come to Thebes (39 43). The priest comes to Oedipus
saying, You freed us from the Shinx, you came to Thebes and cut us loose from the bloody tribute we
had paid that harsh, brutal singer (44 46). The village came to Oedipus because they felt that he could
help them. He had helped them before and he could help them again. If Oedipus did not defeat the
sphinx he would not have become king. They would not have found out that he killed King Laius

Also, impart not only reading and writing, but also professional and technical knowledge, this can lead
to a fuller participation in economic and civic life (Cummins, 1994). On the other hand, cultural
literacy underlines the necessity for shared experiences and points of reference among an interpretive
society in order to comprehend texts adequately. As opposed to functional literacy which focuses on
skills, cultural literacy requires familiarity with a particular knowledge that is essential to meaningful
text interpretation in particular cultural contexts (Irvin et. al, 1994). Furthermore, critical literacy is a
sociocultural method that encourages individuals to analyse texts. It is crucial in the learning of
reading, because it enables people to comprehend how a text works to position and who get benefits
from this positioning. According to Cummins (1994), learners should not only read the word, but read
the world. Reading the word creates limitations in the ways that individuals can understand the world.
Critical literacy helps individuals to engage critically with how they interpret and apply the knowledge
in the society.

Women s Exploitation Of Women
The exploitation of women in production, and the exclusion of women from consumption is not the
only ways in which the female body is harmed as a result of the globalization of the fashion industry.
Perhaps the most obvious occurrence of female body harm in the fashion industry is a result of fashion
modeling. An up close look into the modeling industry as a microcosm of the fashion industry reveals
the severe objectification and commodification of fashion models for the sake of consumption.
The modeling industry has created a culture of exclusion across genders and races. Author Ashley
Mears (2010) critically analyses the fashion industry, and how it influences production of culture and
beauty ideals around the world. The modeling world is extremely female dominated, and the women
who participate are continually commodified as they are used as a means to promote and disseminate
ideas of how women should look, (p. 23). Because consumption is valued so in today s society, the
model is employed based on her perceived ability to sell a product. The clothes she is hired to wear
and the beauty ideal that she is helping sell are more important than her humanity, and she becomes
dehumanized. Clothes take on such utmost importance that models are and should be mere clothes
hangers, with perfectly discrete bodies that will display the clothes but not detract from them, (Mears,
2010, p. 35). Models are blatantly objectified as they are forced be invisible for the sake of

Not only are these ideas full of ambiguity, they are also idealistic in that both compassion and
solidarity fail to incorporate the human natural instinct to survive. However, even if these concepts did
provide a realistic solution, the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II are still going in the wrong
direction, because if they were to try and end the million homicides occurring worldwide, their efforts
would need to be collaborative.
II. The Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II:
Tezin Gyatso, the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet, was born in Amdo, China on July 6,
1935 into a peasant family. At the age of two, Gyatso was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th
Dalai Lama, and therefore an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Gyatso s life
as the Dalai Lama began when he was enthroned at the age of four in Lhasa. However his political
responsibilities did not arise until 1950 when thousands of soldiers of the People s Liberation Army
invaded Lhasa. In 1959, the Tibetans held the largest demonstration against China s invasion of their
home, therefore declaring Tibet s already established independence. This was known as the Tibetan
National Uprising, which was crushed by the Chinese army. As a result, Gyatso and over 100,000
Tibetans fled across the Himalayas and into India where His Holiness was given political asylum.

Social Psychologist Philip Zimbardo s Prison Experiment...
When we see people doing bad things we assume it is because they are bad people. Social
Psychologist Philip Zimbardo would argue that this isn t true. In April 2004 disturbing and graphic
pictures surfaced, showing American soldiers mentally and physically abusing Iraqi prisoners held at
the Abu Ghraib prison located in Bagdad. Looking at the photos that was surfaced, it looks strikingly
familiar to those in the Stanford prison experiment that was done many years ago. The prisoners had
bags over their heads and were subjected to all kinds of sexual and inhumane humiliation. The
military went on the defence saying those officers were a few bad apples. To understand why the
military soldiers at the Abu Grahib prison abused the Iraqi prisoners, we need to look back at the
lessons of Philip Zimbardo s prison experiment and Stanley Milgram s Obedience to Authority
experiment. The results of these experiments showed that there are a set of social psychological
factors that can make ordinary people do things they could have never imagined doing. It shows how
people respond when placed in cruel environments without clear rules, do bad things. I will look at
Zimbardo s case of Good apples in bad barrels. And I will try to understand what lead to the abuses
that occurred within the walls of Abu Ghraib. Philip Zimbardo made it evident that in his analysis it
was the military command and the Bush Administration that created the evil system that created the

Ideology In The Revolution Of 1848 Essay
The Role of Ideology in the Revolutions of 1848
Year 1848 is described as mad year mad with fight for freedom. Already its first months, in almost all
parts of Europe, brought explosion of aims and aspirations, which were accumulated during the after
congress period. Revolutionary movements spread throughout the whole Europe, apart from Russia,
where the system of serfdom did not allow any revolts, and Great Britain, where the reforms were
carried out in non revolutionary channels. Despite the differences in social, economic and political
structures of European countries, the revolutions of 1848 were characterised by uniformity, and their
ideology was a common denominator.

Because of overall crises, many reforms were needed, most of which had an ideological background.
Nevertheless, the ideology did not play a huge role throughout the whole revolution. Year 1848 can be
divided into three periods which were characterised by variable importance of new ideas of 19th
century. The main ideology in opposition to the order established during the Congress of Vienna was
often called liberalism . This name indicates that the primary motive of it was to strive after freedom
in contrary to dependence and restrictions forced on societies and individuals by absolute monarchs.
Colloquially, all people who were against absolute regime and were after constitution established by
nations representativer, were called liberals. They demanded freedom of religion and tolerance,
freedom of word, press and societies. They thought that everybody should be equal as far as law is
concerned.
Another 19th century idea was radicalism, which was pretty much the same ideology, with only slight
differences: radicals supported republican form of power rather than constitutional monarchy, they
wanted common right to vote, they were saying less about freedom of an individual, more about social
justice.
At the beginning of the revolutions 1848, the ideology was extremely important. All social classes
were in misery, because the outcome of

The area I struggled most with in this category was focusing on my own abilities rather than what

Marxist View On Gender Inequality
As a social institution, gender is a process of creating distinguishable social statuses for the
assignment of rights and responsibilities. As part of a stratification system that ranks these statuses
unequally, gender is a major building block in the social structures built on these unequal statuses.
As a process, gender creates the social differences that define women and men . In social interaction
throughout their lives, individuals learn what is expected, see what is expected, act and react in
expected ways, and thus simultaneously construct and maintain the gender order: The very injunction
to be given gender takes place through discursive routes: to be a good mother, to be a heterosexually
desirable object, to be a fit worker, in sum, to signify a multiplicity of guarantees in response to a
variety of different demands all at once (Butler, 1990: 45).
Members of a social group neither make up gender as they go along nor exactly replicate in rote
fashion what was done before. In almost every encounter, human beings produce gender, behaving in
the ways they learned were appropriate for their gender status, or resisting, or rebelling against these
norms. Resistance and rebellion have altered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unionised men who could easily be replaced by women collude in this process because it allows them

the work processes, and levels in work hierarchies, into which men can move in order to keep their
distance from women (Cockburn: 1985:

1. It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.1,5.2,5.3 and5.4 that:
Almost 95% of the people in Guwahati have their accounts in State Bank of India. This is because
everyone has the stereotype that State Bank of India is the best amongst all the banks.
The younger generation people are comfortable in banking with the privatized banks while the elder
generation seems to be comfortable with the nationalized banks.

and 5.5.6 that:
The various facilities provided by the banks like availability of information brochures, ATM machines
in convenient locations, no long line ups at counters etc. are very important now a days to gain
customer satisfaction regarding the banks they are banking with. Also the customers like a pleasant
and attractive décor within the banks so that they can feel relax while doing their important work with

The manner, appearance, efficiency, professionalism and knowledge of the staffs of the bank also play
an important role in driving customers to their respective banks. The reason is that if the staffs are not
able to handle the queries or problems of the staffs then the customers are not tempted to do banking
with a particular bank. This may be either with a nationalized or a privatized bank.

Characteristics Of Frederick Douglass
Leaders at church often say, God wants his people to use their unique gifts and talents to serve others.
Heroes are a great example of people who use their gifts to serve others; however, their gifts are not
always superpowers. In spite of the stereotypes, many heroes are average people with a dream of
something better for themselves and others. For instance, Frederick Douglass was a slave, yet he still
became a hero. Despite the many trials he escaped and used his gifts of speech and writing to inspire
hope in millions. Frederick Douglass spoke about the horrendous experience of being a slave because
many people back then did not truly understand. Through these speeches he created a book and years
later when the Civil War broke out he convinced the U.S Army to allow African Americans to join to
earn freedom. Although, Frederick was not done yet, after they gained freedom he protested that it is
pointless for African Americans to be free but not have the same rights as White Americans. These
protests led to the abolishment of slavery. Frederick Douglass is clearly a hero, but what
characteristics do all heroes need? Simple, a hero must be brave and determined to make a change and
they can not be arrogant in any way. Furthermore, in the real world all heroes use bravery as a way to
repel fear and their bravery helps others show bravery. For example, Deamonte Love had to show a
great amount of bravery when he and a few other children got separated from their parents.

The Thucydides Trap Summary
Mr. Allison first coined the phrase The Thucydides Trap, a trap where a rising power will inevitably
challenge the ruling power that could most likely end in war. The Thucydides Trap is occurring in the
21st century between the US, the ruling power, and China, the rising power, who are getting
increasingly more powerful on the international stage. War is most likely possible between the two
powers, but past history shows that the US and China can get out of the trap through peaceful means.
The first evidence that the author uses to support his thesis is previous examples of the ruling power
being challenged by the rising power. The first example that author uses is the rivalry between Athens
and Sparta, which ended with the Peloponnesian war and with Sparta the victor. The war happened
because Sparta and Athens had entangling alliances with other city states who went to war with each
other and called the superpowers into the war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though previously they were on friendly terms, the UK felt threatened by Germany goal of
having a powerful navy and sought allies in Europe to counteract Germany. The entangling alliances
that UK and Germany made brought the whole world into WW1, which ended as the UK and its allies
as the victors. Although 12 out of 16 examples of the Thucydides Trap ended in war, the chart in the
article shows that it is possible to get out through peaceful means.
The second evidence to support his thesis is that the Chinese economy will overtake the US economy.
The Chinese economy is rising significantly, its economy in 1980 was smaller than the Netherlands,
while in 2014 the Chinese increment of growth of its GDP is equal to the entire Dutch economy. As
shown in the GDP chart in the article, the Chinese GDP is growing significantly compared to the rest
of the world and didn t even stopped during the 2008 financial crisis and the Great

The Grudge Essays
Lesson Four: Capstone Review
(The Grudge)
The film I recently watched was The Grudge. The film was filmed entirely in Tokyo where Japanese
director Takaghi Shimizu brought the popular Japanese horror stories to the American movie viewers.
I went into The Grudge expecting a horror film based on the previews I had seen. When I watched the
movie I found it to be quite a bit scary than what the previews had made it to be. So the film held up to
its previews, however it was scary I would not rank it very high.
The movie stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, During the film Sarah Michelle Gellar plays (Karen Davis) as
an American exchange student who volunteers at a home care agency in return for university credit.
When one of the regular nurses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shocked by what she seen, Karen is briefly hospitalized. She hears a strange noise coming from the
presumably vacant second floor. Making her way up the creaky stairs, and into a darkened bedroom,
Karen is about to set the plot through a series of flashbacks and flash forwards, this film tells of
horrible events that happen in a house and forever stains the place to the point where anyone and
everyone who enters is cursed and will eventually be claimed by the ghosts who inhabit the place. The
movie claims the Japanese believe if a person dies in a fit of rage, their spirit continues to haunt the
living.
The acting by Sarah Michelle Gellar during the movie was good and the rest of the acting isn t bad
either, there really wasn t any actor that didn t do a good job fulfilling his or her part. The films special
effects are also pretty good, they are also very freighting as well. The best thing about the movie and
what really makes the movie so scary is that it has some great cinematography. The shots look good,
and there are a great number of shots in the movie. The scenes are weird and a little outrageous at
times from the repeated gruesome images of a bloodied woman, depictions of suicides, murders, to the
disfigured body parts, but I do like how the film does fit the disjointed scenes together, it leaves your
imagination filling

Gold Standard Dbq
Then in 1929. one of great disasters opposing the gold standard was the Great Depression. The world
economy started to fail, causing Great Britain to abandon the Gold Bullion Standard in 1931. This
event was used as evidence to say that the gold standard was advantageous in the long run, but under
the stress short term shocks and depression, it was incompatible. The only way to get back on the gold
standard was to first get off the gold standard, restabilize the economy, and then return to the gold
standard. Such events that pointed to the inadequacies of the system was, in 1933 Franklin Roosevelt
prohibits the public to hold gold in order to solve a national gold run. A run is when a large amount of
people try to withdraw at the same time. When there isn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This depression lead many to say that gold was inadequate to use in a capitalist system. Many
countries stayed with the gold system thinking they could patch up the gold standard, as it had worked
perfectly before World War I and it was still the most advanced economic policy to date, so many
countries stayed on the gold standard. What many countries didn t expect, which would lead to the
downfall of the gold standard, was World War II.
After World War II, the Bretton Woods Agreement established the gold standard and two support
institutions called the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. This would lead to a
shift, away from the gold standard, to more relaxed systems. The idea of currency purely backed by
gold was slowly being shifted to a trust based currency. These institutions purpose was to regulate the
economies by injecting or taking money in a process called sterilization. Sterilization is to protect
certain countries from a going bankrupt. If a country goes bankrupt, it chain a chain reaction of
bankruptcies. So, in order to maintain balance, currencies need to be stable enough, so that it can be in
debt without having to declare bankruptcy. The idea is

Synopsis Of Il N Existe Probablement
peuvent commencer à vieillir dès la naissance, voire in utero.

Comparing The Accounts Of Eros In Plato s Symposium
The Accounts of Eros in the quot;Symposium quot;
The word love carries with it many, many different interpretations. In modern day, our views on what
is appropriate love is much different from the views from the time of Socrates and Plato. To them love
was eros, a direct translation of the word love.
However, the word itself wasn t the only thing that was different about love. In
Plato s quot;Symposium quot;, there is a celebration for Agathon. He had just won a dramatic contest
in Athens, Greece two nights ago. It is customary to drink much wine at these gatherings, however,
every one present is too weak from the night before. (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. xiii) So a
proposition is made, by Phaedrus, to properly give praise to the ... Show more content on

She speaks of the way Love was conceived, a clever scheme by a god to escape her misfortunes. It
seems the goddess of poverty,
Penia laid down beside Poros and became pregnant with Love (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg.48) This
makes Love unique. Love is good, though, because he is a lover of wisdom, that is, he pursues the
notion of philosophy. But, he is in between wisdom and ignorance (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. 49),
according to Diotima, which is much different an account from the other speakers. Phaedrus had
placed Love at the top of all gods, describing ways in which Love quot;breathes might into some of
the heroes, quot; (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. 10). This is untrue. However, Diotima speaks of ways
in which love helps human beings. This happens when the love for things like sports or poetry helps a
person create something from nothing. Love is a word used to describe the whole, where there are
special parts of love used to describe specific passions and possessions. (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg.
51). And love is wanting to posses the good forever (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. 52) Finally we see
the main points in Diotima s argument when she accurately describes the real purpose of love. It is
almost like a natural instinct. All animals, including humans, have a need to reproduce. The real
purpose in love is giving birth in beauty, whether in body or soul (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg.53).
This means that the pregnant person causes the baby, or new born idea if the

Reseach on the Impact of Religion Bias on Performance...
1. Introduction One of the fundamental purposes of management accounting and control research is to
motivate employees to operate for the firm s interest. It is clear that incentives affect overall
performance, and thus, managers and accountants by providing monetary incentives and compensation
systems aim to improve their employees performance. However, the inequity is produced by the
design of compensation contracts and by managers performance evaluation biases, is perceived to be
one of the main problems of firm s prosperity. A large theoretical literature, based on agency theory,
has emphasized how firms design compensation contracts make employees to do their best for the
firm. Therefore, firms include many different mechanisms (i.e. piece rates, options, bonuses and
stocks, budget targets) in their compensation contracts to align interests between the employees and
their managers. However, objective measures are not perfect and using only these is unlikely to be the
most effective way to motivate employees (Feltham Xie 1994; Hemmer 1996). Financial measures
provoke a reallocation of activities toward those that are directly compensated and away from the
uncompensated activities, known as multitasking problem (Holmstrom Milgrom, 1990, Baker 1992).
They have been criticized for promoting over emphasis on short turn financial results, and thus, they
sacrifice long turn (Ittner et al., 1997, 2003). Moreover, financial measures of performance tend to be

Military Strategy Research Paper
The purpose of this Foundation of Strategy paper is to defend this author s opinion as to What have
been or are currently the three greatest challenges for the United States in translating its military
power into desired political outcomes or end states? (Air War College) Additionally, the paper will
evaluate the three challenges in the context of two different conflicts. (Air War College) In today s
ever dynamic and changing strategic landscape, there are plenty of challenges facing the United
States. As one can imagine, the palate is full given the many facets and combinations in which senior
leaders make decisions as to how best to reach a desired end goal and/or political outcome.
This paper begins with a summary view to develop the concept of strategy and why its
implementation is difficult. The following sections then cover the core discussion of this paper to

critical thinking required advising our Commander in Chief. Napoleon stated it this way, knowledge
of the higher conduct of war can only be acquired by studying the history of wars and the battles of
great generals and by one s own experience. There are no terse and precise rules at all... a thousand
other circumstances make things never look alike (Gray, p. 26 Lesson 1 Reading 3). With this in mind,
let s now focus on two past conflicts and interrelate the challenges (Fiscal Landscape; Alignment with

Avoid Sequences
A. How I Use First, Use as Needed, or Avoid Sequence I use Sequence AS NEEDED. I like the idea
of a schedule but it s hard for me to stick to it. I rarely double check things but I am always taking
steps toward improving. I need enough time to perform and I hate to rush. This gives me a chance to
perform trial and error before arriving at my conclusion. I skim through pages and search for main
ideas and I can t take too much information in one sitting. In school, for example, I ll write a paper
seven or eight times before turning it in making sure all my words were in my desired order and I
made use of the best possible diction. My tendencies to do this most times cause frustration and
pressure to make my due dates, and I end up doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I love to learn things by physically testing, building or using my hands alongside my mind. A great
example demonstrating this pattern would be when I took apart one of the lamps that my boyfriend
and I had in the living room. It wasn t broken and had been a fully functioning lamp until I decided to
take it apart to get to the part where the knob is at the top. I had wanted to use a specific lampshade
but couldn t because the center of it wasn t in compliance with the current lamp. My brain told me to
just switch lamp knobs, thus allowing me to put my new lampshade to use. If you don t already know
not to take apart a lamp, let me warn you, it is not worth it. My lamp needed to be disassembled from
the BOTTOM UP. My point is, I now know every single part of that lamp and how it was put together.
I never di get the new lampshade on nor was I able to reassemble that lamp. I remind you of my
previous reflection on Confluence, and how part of that was being able to make mistakes and take
risks, even if sometimes the results are not as productive as they could have

Internet Censorship Essay
America Needs Censorship of Cyberspace
In June of 1998 the country was horrified to learn of the death of James Byrd Jr. He was a 49 year old
black man who had been found horribly mutilated after being dragged to death. Authorities have
charged three men with murder and violation of civil rights ( A Fatal Ride in the Night 33). Obviously,
if convicted, these men are guilty of a horrible crime, but what if this crime had been committed after
viewing a racist website? If a person reads an emotionally charged, hate filled website and then
commits an act of violence, can the creator and owner of the website also be found guilty?
No laws have yet been established to censor material in cyberspace. The ... Show more content on

He states that we cannot say, the First Amendment is so sacrosanct that we must stand idly by while
our children are inundated with pornography and smut on the Internet (Exon 156).
However, those who are against censorship on the Internet believe that it violates their right to free
speech. Because the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates radio and television,
Internet users believe this is the only available forum that guarantees the open exchange of ideas. The
freedom of expression is a right guaranteed to Americans and therefore should not be restricted by the
government.
The First Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of
the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
In fact, Americans have a limited form of free speech. Several types of speech are not protected
including fighting words, commercial speech, libel and slander, and obscenity. The Supreme Court has
three tests for determining what is obscene: (1) whether the average person, applying local community
standards, would find that a work, taken as a whole, appeals to a prurient interest; (2) whether the
work depicts in a patently offensive way sexual conduct specifically defined as obscene in law; and
(3) whether the work,

The Sherman Act Of 1890
A Sherman Act of 1890 The Sherman Act of 1890 as referenced in McConnell and Campbell (2011),
consists of two main regulations; Section 1 Every contract, combination in the form of a trust or
otherwise, or conspiracy, in restraint of trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign
nations is declared to be illegal. Section 2 Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to
monopolize, or combine or conspire with any person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or
commerce among the several states, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony (as
later amended from misdemeanor ). (p.375) The historical context of the Sherman Act lies in the
corporate climate of the United States during the time period preceding the creation of these antitrust
laws. At that time the market was dominated by several monopolies in industries such as railroads,
tobacco production, meatpacking and coal mining. The US Government determined the monopolies
did not provide enough fair competition in those industries to provide protection of consumers. The
Sherman Act of 1890 created the legislation to declare the existing monopolies illegal and made
violation of the Act a felony, essentially deeming the existing monopolies in violation of the law.
These two regulations made common practices such as price fixing and market divisions illegal. The
Sherman Act would open the doors for individuals and government agencies such as the U.S

Figurative Language In Thomas Paine Crisis No. 1
Thomas Paine was an influential man who achieved many accomplished throughout his life. Back in
the revolutionary time period the colonists had to make a crucial decision, which was if they should
kneel as english subjects or stand as for what s right as americans. Thomas Paine Crisis No. 1 uses
pathos as the most persuasive technique to appeal the audience s angry feelings toward the king about
the separation from britain, he uses an anecdote to show this. Paine believed that the only power
people should have is God and nothing else. He uses figurative language to show the audience how he
feels so that they are able to connect to the situation better. let them call me rebel, and welcome, i feel

  • 2. Disclosure Research Paper Some agree that the term disclosure is known as the action of making new or secret information known, while others, particularly in the electronic dance music scene, provide a whole other meaning. Two brothers, Howard and Guy Lawrence, make up the English electronic music duo known as Disclosure. Popularized for making pop structured songs in the style of house music and garage, this brotherly duo has quickly tapped in to the fan base of electronic dance music fans worldwide; creating a demand for more styles similar to Disclosure s. Who would have thought that the blend between pop, house, and garage music would become such a hit? But with a name just of that of Disclosure s there is no doubt that the duo has brewed up some new beats that fans will be longing to give a listen to. There is much reason why the second studio album released, Caracal, on September 25, 2015 was nominated for Best Dance/ Electronica Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Three songs from the album stuck out to me tracks two, three, and seven. More commonly known as Omen, Holding On, and Magnets. Holding On, displays the artistic ability of Disclosure to stay faithful to their formula for beats while also managing to launch their music steadfastly into the future by adding new elements to the song ... The carbon cycle starts with carbon atoms being absorbed in the water soil or living things (ex plants animals etc.). It then when the said thing is burned or decomposed the carbon is released back to be reabsorbed. Or when a living creature it pulls in o2 with C and then when it exhales it creates Co2 which then is absorbed in plants to create glucose in the process refer to image above. But when trees and stuff are burned or animals are caught in fires it releases C or carbon. back into the Atmosphere where it is restarted. Next is the oxygen cycle. Where oxygen is taken and turned by animals into co2 plants then take it and turn it into o2 where it is released where is is either absorbed by the atmosphere where it will stay for 4500 years or turn into o3 ozone, the biosphere where it will stay for 50 years ,the lithosphere where it will stay for 500,000,000 years, and last the hydrosphere. after it is released it will cycle again and find a new place to populate. oxygen is used in plants in the form of co2 and h2o to form the photosynthesis equation to create energy. Which it then uses to grow while outputting o2 or oxygen makes up 20% of our atmosphere. Next i will be covering the nitrogen cycle The nitrogen cycle starts with atmospheric nitrogen. • 7. Differences Between Minority And Minority Groups Abstract This study explores the relationships between majority and minority groups and their awareness of blatant and subtle prejudice, by priming either common or dual identity. It was hypothesized that due to their marginalization, minority groups will be more aware of both subtle and blatant prejudice and that those primed with dual identity will show a similar heightened awareness. The results demonstrated that majority groups were more aware of both types of prejudice, contradicting many previous results in this area. This study was conducted on an Australian population, making it unique, and possibly explaining the contrary results. However, it has also been suggested that the social stigma surrounding racism in our society has increased the awareness by majority groups, as they strive to be politically correct and avoid judgment by their peers. Another worthy discussion point is the internalization of prejudice by minority groups living in a majority dominated society. How Common and Dual Identity Can Influence Majority and Minority Awareness of Subtle and Blatant Prejudice In modern society, prejudiced ideas and values are present amongst majority dominated societies (Banaji Devos, 2005). Minority groups, and individuals with a heightened sense of cultural affiliation to their ethnicity, have been shown to be more aware of subtle prejudice than majority groups (Operario Fiske, 2001). Previous research in the area of racial prejudice has also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Scapegoat Research Paper A scapegoat is someone or something that receives all the blame for when something goes wrong. Scapegoats have been humanity s way of pointing the finger and ignoring any wrongdoing that may have led to a failure. No one ever wants to take responsibility when a failure occurs, but there s always someone around to take the glory if success is achieved. Historically speaking, scapegoats were more of a reason people used to do bad things. Hitler, for instance, used the Jewish religion and people who practiced it in his country as his scapegoat for trying to achieve domination. No one wants to gain the responsibility and criticism that comes with failure, but appointing a scapegoat seems to be the easy way of dealing with it. In ancient societies, scapegoats were very popular and there were even specific animals and people who would be sacrificed if something went wrong. I think that was done more as part of religious practice, but the idea of a scapegoat taking the blame still stands. The people would most likely have been criminals or problematic people in the society and who would easily be accepted as a scapegoat for any failures experienced. • 12. Role of Gender in the Book of Genesis and Theogony. Essay The roles that men and women play tend to differ in different works of literature. The roles depend on the culture and the context of a particular work of literature, and even the time the work of literature was written. For instance the roles of gender will differ from African culture to American culture, as well as from ancient America and Modern America. Old stories such as the Book of Genesis and Theogony portray different roles men and men play. Most of these roles are similar in both books, and a few are different. From the Book of Genesis we can observe the male role of domination. In this book a man was created before a woman and was given domination over all creations upon the earth. God said, Let us make a man in our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1: 5 10), God gave the same authority to Adam to name the leaving creatures that were Gods creations. He even named the woman created from the bone of his rib (Gen. 2: 22 23). Also, the command of not eating from the tree of life and the tree of knowledge was given to Adam without the presence of woman (Gen. 2: 16 17), meaning the male had the important role of passing this message to the female. Males authority is also clearly visible in Theogony. In this text all major duties and decisions are made by the male God (Zeus), while there are also goddesses who could have made those decisions. Hesiod writes that, He [Zeus] has appointed their [Muses ] ordinances to the immortals, well in each detail, and assigned them their privileges (Hesiod, pg 4). He further explains that the kings were the ones that made important judgments and settled disputes whenever the need to do so arises. Moreover, Hesiod tells that When he [king] goes among a gathering, they seek his favour with conciliatory reverence, as if he was a God, and he stands out among the crowd (Hesiod, pg. 5). This portrays a male as a superior being and a ruler. The important role of female even in today s society is to be a mother and child bearer. This role can be observed in the Book of Genesis. Eve gives birth to three sons and the role continues throughout the text (Gen. 3: 1). And the females who could not conceive would pray to God to give them the ability to conceive (Gen. 30:23) This role can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was hypothesized that the higher the concentration of salt each catalysts solution contained, the rate of enzyme activity would decrease when applied to hydrogen peroxide. • 19. Revenge In The Film Gladiator For almost three thousand years, revenge has been a central preoccupation of European literature. ( #2 ) Even today we as students of the world see Aristotle s influence around us. Especially in the forms of entertainment that we seek, such as movies. The film Gladiator contains the need for revenge; just like the many European literatures before its time. It also follows Aristotle s guidelines of tragedy. As the audience watches this film they are taken through a roller coaster of emotion such as, sympathy for Maximus and fear for his defeat. In the film Gladiator, written by Ridley Scott, follows Aristotle s guide to tragedy by depicting the protagonist s fatal flaw of vengefulness, the audience s emotions of fear and pity while watching this film. Throughout the course of the film it is obvious that Maximus s need to avenge the death of his wife and child is the driving force behind his actions, and inevitable death. After a crucial change in power for the Roman empire, General Maximus Decimus Meridius is put into a tough situation. The new Caesar holds a grudge against Maximus and takes it out on his wife and son, creating a storm of rage within the Roman General. Canada s reputation for being nice and polite is questioned by the internment of Japanese and Japanese Canadians during World War Two. With a review of the past, it is absolute that the internment of the Japanese people in Canada was not justified. Internment caused more problems than it solved as it ruined relations between Japanese people in Canada and other Canadians, it ruined the futures of all Japanese descendants in Canada and innocent Japanese Canadians were taken from their homes and families and put into the camps. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the government first started to distrust the Japanese people in Canada, measures were put in place which marked the first steps of interment. Almost 22,000 of the approximately 24,000 people of Japanese descent living in Canada were removed from their homes and distributed to various locations across Canada. Seventy five percent were Canadian citizens. ( World War II Internment , n.d.) This is the result of the government creating a protected zone [160 km from B.C. coast] which forced all Japanese descendants out of that area. Many of these people moved were innocent first generation Canadians, still, they were treated as enemies and moved away. The Japanese being moved sparked debate about whether or not internment was justifiable. Canadian military officials and the RCMP felt that the Japanese Canadian population posed no threat and opposed taking any punitive action against them. (McRae, 2017) While most politicians and most white Canadians saw the Japanese in Canada as threats, some saw it as putting innocent and harmless Canadians in internment camps. The last condition mentioned involves 3 other conditions, which are essential attitudes and qualities necessary for the counsellor to posses for successful therapy; empathic understanding, unconditional positive regard and congruence. When we started we tested Redbuds in 4 treatments and tested Peaches in 3 treatments. For the Redbuds, we did a control group with nothing but wrapping it with a paper towel and storing it into a Ziploc bag. Then we soaked redbuds in sulfuric acid without promix, and soaked them with sulfuric acid with promix (not moist), and then for the last lot we wrapped redbuds with moist promix. For peaches we also had a control group with just storing them in a Ziploc bag, and for the second lot we placed that seeds in moist promix in a cooler. Finally, for the third lot we soaked the seeds in water for a week and added moist promix and then placed in the cooler. As a result, to this experiment of scarification and stratification we have seen that lot 3 for Redbuds (scarification) germinated 16/40, which is a good amount of germination. For stratification with the peaches only lot 2 germinated 1/20 which was more than the other lots. Introduction: Scarification in botany involves weakening, opening, or otherwise altering the coat of a seed to encourage germination. Scarification is often done mechanically, thermally, and chemically. The seeds of many plant species are often impervious to water and gases, thus preventing or delaying germination. Maybe you think of a bridge or a road? If you thought of either of those things, you are correct. Furthermore, Civil Engineering is all of these things and a little more. Civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering discipline. It deals with the built environment and can be dated to the first time someone placed a roof over his or her head or laid a tree trunk across a river to make it easier to get across (Civil Engineering). Some of the first ever examples of the civil engineering was the roof and the bridge. Eventually, our knowledge and tools advanced to enhance the durability and aestheticism of roads, bridges, and buildings. In addition to roads and bridges, civil engineering also deals with planes, cars, and boats as well. In order to become a civil engineer or any job, for instance, you must study and become a perfectionist in that field. Studying in the school of engineering does not focus on just one subject of study. To put differently, to become a professional in the job of an engineer you must excel in mathematics. Perhaps the most obvious occurrence of female body harm in the fashion industry is a result of fashion modeling. An up close look into the modeling industry as a microcosm of the fashion industry reveals the severe objectification and commodification of fashion models for the sake of consumption. The modeling industry has created a culture of exclusion across genders and races. Author Ashley Mears (2010) critically analyses the fashion industry, and how it influences production of culture and beauty ideals around the world. The modeling world is extremely female dominated, and the women who participate are continually commodified as they are used as a means to promote and disseminate ideas of how women should look, (p. 23). Because consumption is valued so in today s society, the model is employed based on her perceived ability to sell a product. The clothes she is hired to wear and the beauty ideal that she is helping sell are more important than her humanity, and she becomes dehumanized. Clothes take on such utmost importance that models are and should be mere clothes hangers, with perfectly discrete bodies that will display the clothes but not detract from them, (Mears, 2010, p. 35). Social Psychologist Philip Zimbardo would argue that this isn t true. In April 2004 disturbing and graphic pictures surfaced, showing American soldiers mentally and physically abusing Iraqi prisoners held at the Abu Ghraib prison located in Bagdad. Looking at the photos that was surfaced, it looks strikingly familiar to those in the Stanford prison experiment that was done many years ago. The prisoners had bags over their heads and were subjected to all kinds of sexual and inhumane humiliation. The military went on the defence saying those officers were a few bad apples. To understand why the military soldiers at the Abu Grahib prison abused the Iraqi prisoners, we need to look back at the lessons of Philip Zimbardo s prison experiment and Stanley Milgram s Obedience to Authority experiment. The results of these experiments showed that there are a set of social psychological factors that can make ordinary people do things they could have never imagined doing. As part of a stratification system that ranks these statuses unequally, gender is a major building block in the social structures built on these unequal statuses. As a process, gender creates the social differences that define women and men . In social interaction throughout their lives, individuals learn what is expected, see what is expected, act and react in expected ways, and thus simultaneously construct and maintain the gender order: The very injunction to be given gender takes place through discursive routes: to be a good mother, to be a heterosexually desirable object, to be a fit worker, in sum, to signify a multiplicity of guarantees in response to a variety of different demands all at once (Butler, 1990: 45). Members of a social group neither make up gender as they go along nor exactly replicate in rote fashion what was done before. • 38. Characteristics Of Frederick Douglass Leaders at church often say, God wants his people to use their unique gifts and talents to serve others. Heroes are a great example of people who use their gifts to serve others; however, their gifts are not always superpowers. In spite of the stereotypes, many heroes are average people with a dream of something better for themselves and others. For instance, Frederick Douglass was a slave, yet he still became a hero. Despite the many trials he escaped and used his gifts of speech and writing to inspire hope in millions. Frederick Douglass spoke about the horrendous experience of being a slave because many people back then did not truly understand. Through these speeches he created a book and years later when the Civil War broke out he convinced the U.S Army to allow African Americans to join to earn freedom. Although, Frederick was not done yet, after they gained freedom he protested that it is pointless for African Americans to be free but not have the same rights as White Americans. These protests led to the abolishment of slavery. Frederick Douglass is clearly a hero, but what characteristics do all heroes need? Simple, a hero must be brave and determined to make a change and they can not be arrogant in any way. Furthermore, in the real world all heroes use bravery as a way to repel fear and their bravery helps others show bravery. For example, Deamonte Love had to show a great amount of bravery when he and a few other children got separated from their parents. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Thucydides Trap Summary Mr. Allison first coined the phrase The Thucydides Trap, a trap where a rising power will inevitably challenge the ruling power that could most likely end in war. The Thucydides Trap is occurring in the 21st century between the US, the ruling power, and China, the rising power, who are getting increasingly more powerful on the international stage. War is most likely possible between the two powers, but past history shows that the US and China can get out of the trap through peaceful means. The first evidence that the author uses to support his thesis is previous examples of the ruling power being challenged by the rising power. The first example that author uses is the rivalry between Athens and Sparta, which ended with the Peloponnesian war and with Sparta the victor. The war happened because Sparta and Athens had entangling alliances with other city states who went to war with each other and called the superpowers into the war. ... Even though previously they were on friendly terms, the UK felt threatened by Germany goal of having a powerful navy and sought allies in Europe to counteract Germany. The entangling alliances that UK and Germany made brought the whole world into WW1, which ended as the UK and its allies as the victors. Although 12 out of 16 examples of the Thucydides Trap ended in war, the chart in the article shows that it is possible to get out through peaceful means. The second evidence to support his thesis is that the Chinese economy will overtake the US economy. The Chinese economy is rising significantly, its economy in 1980 was smaller than the Netherlands, while in 2014 the Chinese increment of growth of its GDP is equal to the entire Dutch economy. As shown in the GDP chart in the article, the Chinese GDP is growing significantly compared to the rest of the world and didn t even stopped during the 2008 financial crisis and the Great ... The film was filmed entirely in Tokyo where Japanese director Takaghi Shimizu brought the popular Japanese horror stories to the American movie viewers. I went into The Grudge expecting a horror film based on the previews I had seen. When I watched the movie I found it to be quite a bit scary than what the previews had made it to be. So the film held up to its previews, however it was scary I would not rank it very high. The movie stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, During the film Sarah Michelle Gellar plays (Karen Davis) as an American exchange student who volunteers at a home care agency in return for university credit. When one of the regular nurses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shocked by what she seen, Karen is briefly hospitalized. She hears a strange noise coming from the presumably vacant second floor. Making her way up the creaky stairs, and into a darkened bedroom, Karen is about to set the plot through a series of flashbacks and flash forwards, this film tells of horrible events that happen in a house and forever stains the place to the point where anyone and everyone who enters is cursed and will eventually be claimed by the ghosts who inhabit the place. The movie claims the Japanese believe if a person dies in a fit of rage, their spirit continues to haunt the living. The acting by Sarah Michelle Gellar during the movie was good and the rest of the acting isn t bad either, there really wasn t any actor that didn t do a good job fulfilling his or her part. The films special effects are also pretty good, they are also very freighting as well. The best thing about the movie and what really makes the movie so scary is that it has some great cinematography. The shots look good, and there are a great number of shots in the movie. The scenes are weird and a little outrageous at times from the repeated gruesome images of a bloodied woman, depictions of suicides, murders, to the disfigured body parts, but I do like how the film does fit the disjointed scenes together, it leaves your imagination filling ... Gold Standard Dbq Then in 1929. one of great disasters opposing the gold standard was the Great Depression. The world economy started to fail, causing Great Britain to abandon the Gold Bullion Standard in 1931. This event was used as evidence to say that the gold standard was advantageous in the long run, but under the stress short term shocks and depression, it was incompatible. The only way to get back on the gold standard was to first get off the gold standard, restabilize the economy, and then return to the gold standard. This depression lead many to say that gold was inadequate to use in a capitalist system. Many countries stayed with the gold system thinking they could patch up the gold standard, as it had worked perfectly before World War I and it was still the most advanced economic policy to date, so many countries stayed on the gold standard. What many countries didn t expect, which would lead to the downfall of the gold standard, was World War II. After World War II, the Bretton Woods Agreement established the gold standard and two support institutions called the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. This would lead to a shift, away from the gold standard, to more relaxed systems. The idea of currency purely backed by gold was slowly being shifted to a trust based currency. These institutions purpose was to regulate the economies by injecting or taking money in a process called sterilization. Sterilization is to protect certain countries from a going bankrupt. If a country goes bankrupt, it chain a chain reaction of bankruptcies. In modern day, our views on what is appropriate love is much different from the views from the time of Socrates and Plato. To them love was eros, a direct translation of the word love. However, the word itself wasn t the only thing that was different about love. In Plato s quot;Symposium quot;, there is a celebration for Agathon. He had just won a dramatic contest in Athens, Greece two nights ago. It is customary to drink much wine at these gatherings, however, every one present is too weak from the night before. She speaks of the way Love was conceived, a clever scheme by a god to escape her misfortunes. It seems the goddess of poverty, Penia laid down beside Poros and became pregnant with Love (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg.48) This makes Love unique. Love is good, though, because he is a lover of wisdom, that is, he pursues the notion of philosophy. But, he is in between wisdom and ignorance (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. 49), according to Diotima, which is much different an account from the other speakers. Phaedrus had placed Love at the top of all gods, describing ways in which Love quot;breathes might into some of the heroes, quot; (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. 10). This is untrue. However, Diotima speaks of ways in which love helps human beings. This happens when the love for things like sports or poetry helps a person create something from nothing. Love is a word used to describe the whole, where there are special parts of love used to describe specific passions and possessions. (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. 51). And love is wanting to posses the good forever (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg. 52) Finally we see the main points in Diotima s argument when she accurately describes the real purpose of love. It is almost like a natural instinct. All animals, including humans, have a need to reproduce. The real purpose in love is giving birth in beauty, whether in body or soul (Nehamas amp; Woodruff, pg.53). This means that the pregnant person causes the baby, or new born idea if the ... • 44. Reseach on the Impact of Religion Bias on Performance... 1. Introduction One of the fundamental purposes of management accounting and control research is to motivate employees to operate for the firm s interest. It is clear that incentives affect overall performance, and thus, managers and accountants by providing monetary incentives and compensation systems aim to improve their employees performance. However, the inequity is produced by the design of compensation contracts and by managers performance evaluation biases, is perceived to be one of the main problems of firm s prosperity. A large theoretical literature, based on agency theory, has emphasized how firms design compensation contracts make employees to do their best for the firm. Therefore, firms include many different mechanisms (i.e. piece rates, options, bonuses and stocks, budget targets) in their compensation contracts to align interests between the employees and their managers. However, objective measures are not perfect and using only these is unlikely to be the most effective way to motivate employees (Feltham Xie 1994; Hemmer 1996). Financial measures provoke a reallocation of activities toward those that are directly compensated and away from the uncompensated activities, known as multitasking problem (Holmstrom Milgrom, 1990, Baker 1992). They have been criticized for promoting over emphasis on short turn financial results, and thus, they sacrifice long turn (Ittner et al., 1997, 2003). Section 2 Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several states, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony (as later amended from misdemeanor ). (p.375) The historical context of the Sherman Act lies in the corporate climate of the United States during the time period preceding the creation of these antitrust laws. At that time the market was dominated by several monopolies in industries such as railroads, tobacco production, meatpacking and coal mining. The US Government determined the monopolies did not provide enough fair competition in those industries to provide protection of consumers. The Sherman Act of 1890 created the legislation to declare the existing monopolies illegal and made violation of the Act a felony, essentially deeming the existing monopolies in violation of the law.
