of challenges. Firstly, the topic itself requires a thorough understanding of persuasive writing
techniques tailored specifically to a high school audience. This involves considering the age
group's interests, concerns, and cognitive abilities to effectively engage them and sway their
opinions.
Moreover, generating original ideas within this framework can be demanding. While there are
plenty of resources available, including sample essays and persuasive techniques, ensuring
authenticity and creativity in the essay is crucial. Striking the right balance between presenting
compelling arguments and maintaining a persuasive tone without sounding overly forceful or
didactic requires finesse.

Analysis of Will Smith s Party Starter
In order to analyze Will Smith s song and video entitled Party Starter, it is
important to understand the history of hip hop music. Hip hop music was created
out of rap music. Rap has been around since the 1970s. It was originally used as a
way for inner city African American youths to voice their daily struggles. Most rap
songs had a simple beat with words spoken to the rhythm of the beat. These songs
were usually upbeat even when the subject matter was serious. There was the
impression or hope that things will get better. Soon, corporate record labels started
to repackage rap music as it gained in popularity. The business minded executives
were looking to create a wider appeal by erasing hip hop s historic function. Hip hop

The new music was labeled hip hop. Many of today s hip hop artists grew up
listening to classic rap or at least the 1990s gangsta versions. The lifestyle that was
once frowned upon is now glamorized and sought after. Even though hip hop has
become commercially successful, it is still distributed by white dominated
corporate America. It is marketed through white dominated, mainstream media
outlets. Record companies seek out controversial artists that draw attention and
free publicity in the media. Female artists are marketed as sex symbols. If they
aren t, their careers are short lived. They may speak about equality between the
sexes in their songs; they are still sexualized in a negative way in the media. They
are disrespected and often referred to as bitch or ho . Exotic dancing is glamorized.
Videos of half naked women dancing played on mainstream music networks has
made today s youth feel that this behavior is acceptable. Will Smith s Party Starter
conforms to the commercial and acceptable trends of hip hop in several ways. The
way women are shown in the video is very typical of hip hop today. There are a lot
of beautiful, scantily dressed women dancing in a provocative way. They are
mostly African American women. The video portrays them as sex symbols. The
clothing worn by Will Smith is also fits the commercialized image of hip hop. He
has on baggy jeans, a warm up jacket, sneakers, a t shirt

Situation Analysis
Environment
The economic environment from 1982 to 1990 was the age of new technology.
During this time there were many new companies emerging in the computer industry,
trying to find a niche market. The economy was trending towards a large increase on
economic wealth and very low unemployment rates. The culture was starting to
embrace the idea of computer technology and the idea of networking.
Industry
The industry in which Sun Microsystems is competing in is computer workstations for
scientists, engineers, and commercial companies. Sun s founder s believed there was
demand for a desktop computer workstation costing between $10,000 and $20,000 in
a market niche, ignored by minicomputer makers such as, IBM, Data General, Dec,
and Hewlett Packard. Sun s executives believed that they would only have a short
time in this market before the other large companies decided to enter, because it was
an exclusive market with a high entry barrier, but with opportunity for extensive
profitability.
The workstation market for engineers and scientists was rapidly becoming saturated.
The company is now concentrating more of its efforts on airlines, banks, insurance,
financial companies, and other commercial companies, trying to persuade users to
utilize Sun workstations to solve new problems. Sun had to change their product
design to make its machines easier to install, and improve the understandability of
product manuals. As Sun

by Pamela Yartes
In 1982, filmmaker Pamela Yates traveled to Guatemala to make a film about the
nation s ongoing civil war, with General Efrain Rios Montt s military dictatorship on
one side and a rebel army of farmers, intellectuals and indigenous Mayans on the
other. Yartes stated that she has wanted to see these people pay for their crimes. This
documentary link Guatemala s blustery past and present. At the time Yates
completed her film When The Mountains Tremble, the world was just becoming
aware that Montt and his troops were engaging in genocide, determined to wipe out
the Maya people one and for all. However, she narrates the films about the search
for evidence of Guatemala s genocide, much of it drawn from footage she filmed
back in 1982. At least ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, Yartes made a strong connection with forensic scientists, lawyers, and the
press. Yartes also explained that Granito is mostly about the importance of human
rights and not just as she is a filmmaker but it is going into all of the outtakes from
1982 to find evidence for the cases in Guatemala. There was this guy named Freddy
Peccerelli who ve been finding and looking for scientific, forensic evidence, and also
this lady named Kate Doyle, which she went through secret military and police
documents to find evidence, including evidence against Otto PГ©rez Molina another
man linked to the Plan SofГa which in seen in Granito. Furthermore, the importance
of this film was to document every step throughout the ongoing genocide in
Guatemala and how important this documentary could be to trial General Efrain
Rios Montt. However, Freddy Peccerelli stated what has happened in Guatemala is
pretty much blanket impunity after the signing of the peace accords and people are
afraid to talk because of the lack of justice. To support this view, Freddy and his

Tom Wolfe Analysis
Tim O Brien and Tom Wolfe are two American authors known for their wartime
novels. Tim O Brien and Tom Wolfe utilize diction, imagery, and tone; however, O
Brien emits a more colloquial style of writing whereas Wolfe s writing style is more
derisive. Each author shows his unique style of writing through numerous amounts of
literary devices and sentence structure. Both authors use tone, voice, diction, and
imagery to contribute to the overall themes of their books. Tim O Brien and Tom
Wolfe use tone in their novels to set the overall theme their books have. Tim O Brien
illustrates the emotional and physical toll the war had on soldiers through tone and
voice. Throughout The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien emanates a very
sentimental and nostalgic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His use of detail is what makes readers cringe, for example, They d found him at
the bottom of an irrigation ditch, badly burned, flies in his mouth and eyes. The
boy wore black shorts and sandals. At the time of his death he had been carrying a
pouch of rice, a rifle, and three magazines of ammunition. (13). The use of imagery
and detail in this book describes the hardships the soldiers had to overcome, adding
to the somber tone conveyed throughout the book. In The Right Stuff, Tom Wolfe s
use of imagery and detail helps paint a picture of the pilots situations. For example,
A sheet of light hit Gus and the others, and the boiling voices dropped down to a
rumble, or a buzz, and then you could make them out. There appeared to be hundreds
of them, packed in shank to flank, sitting, standing, squatting. (85) Wolfe s
meticulous descriptions of the pilots deaths and the difficulty of their jobs make it
seem like he is praising the pilots for their courage and hard
Blink Gym Observation
Friday, December 11 2015 6pm i went to the Blink gym on Utica Ave. I have been
working out at this gym for about a year. I decided to observe the people that are
working out at the gym, i was looking at the various people, exercises, and even the
most popular area in the gym. The gym was very crowded with people. This is the
only gym in my neighborhood and the monthly price for the gym goes low as 15$
a month. They also have special that allows you to get the first Two months free of
no charge and if you have a 20$ Membership you can bring a guest with you. I
made the conclusion based on these factors that s why the gym has so many
customers. The time i have spent here i noticed that the members of this gym is
predominantly African American. I can safely say that majority of them were
from the Caribbean. This distinction was made because of my previous research on
the types of people that purchase lottery tickets from the corner store across the
street from the gym. Based on that research i discovered that most of the
customers in the store had an accent and my neighborhood is predominantly
African American this plays a huge role in the type of people that are seen in
average inside the store or even the gym. I also noticed a few Spanish and White
people as well but the amount wasn t nearly as large. It wasn t possible to determine
the class of the people working out in the gym. The things i... Show more content on

Even though the gym is pack in attempt to maximize the affordable price people

popular so is the leg/yoga area. Does this mean people are skipping leg
Gender Segregation And Gender Roles
Many writers deepen the meaning of their works through social issues they tackle
within their writing. Each social issue that a writer writes about is most often one
that is impactful on their life. Most often authors who are African American write
about racial segregation, or perhaps a religious man writes about the religious
persecution he faces. People remember authors, such as Lorraine Hansberry, for
writing about both racial segregation and the changing role of women in society.
This is evident in A Raisin in the Sun. In her A Raisin in the Sun, Hansberry makes
use of genderroles as part of characterization and the plot; she does this by switching
the roles of genders, showing the different views on gender roles, and the battle...

When she denies him the money for the store, he responds, You tell that to my boy

form of pathos so that he can persuade his mother for the money. He wants his mother

provide for his family.
During the 1950 60s, it is uncommon to find women going to college. Even more so,
it is extremely rare to find an African Americanwomen there. Women are still found
in nursing positions and as housewives. The only nursing positions an African
American woman can find is at a hospital in a predominantly African American
area. Housekeeping as a maid and cooking is the main jobs that these women have,
but, a counter ideology was beginning to emerge that challenged women s so called
traditional domestic role in society. This ideology was bolstered by the increasing
employment of wives and mothers in the marketplace (McLeer 81). Beneatha
Younger is one who applied this knew ideology to her life. In the play, she attends
medical school to become a doctor. Beneatha is a non traditionalist who wants more
in her life than an average woman life. She has two men in her life that she tries to
discover who she wants to be with. One man is from a wealthy family whom
everyone in her family wants
Sigmund Freud s Civilization And Its Discontents
Sigmund Freud, in his book Civilization and Its Discontents, contests that humans are
subject to savage, animalistic instincts. He opposes the Marxist value that humans are
superior to their animal counterparts, rather, he holds, humans are quite like wolves
to each other. With this claim, he explores how internal compositions work in the
grand scheme, to create a working mechanism of society that tames and creates
internal negotiations of behaviour and instinct. (also include what comes of the last
question) Freud, a psychologist, had views that were at odds with Marxist values,
derived from a philosopher and economist. Their views on what drives human nature
are fundamentally different. Freud adhered to the belief that humans are enslaved by
their instinctive forces. This is to say that humans are driven to seek out pleasure.
Marx, on the other hand, believed that humans are motivated by their place in society
through labour. His core value was the division of labor, and how it structures society.
Freud understood man in a Darwinian sense, that man comes from natural selection,
in the sense that Darwin insisted on its [homo sapiens] kinship with lesser cousins
and observed that the stamp of [its] lowly origin was quite ineffaceable (12). This
contrasts with the Marxist assumption that humans are different from animals, the
belief in human exceptionalism. Under this presumption, Marx finds that abuse and
violence occurs in consequence to disproportionate distributions
Insanity of Blanche Dubois
Insanity of Blanche Dubois The movie A Streetcar Named Desire contains many
elements of insanity. The character that displays the most tragic insanity is Blanche
Dubois. Blanche is from Laurel, Mississippi were she loses her home Belle Reve,
after the death of her relatives. She then travels to her sister s home where her
actions lead her to insanity. She goes to her sister home as a fallen woman of society.
She has a difficult time distinguishing between what is real and what is fantasy.
Blanche Duboisis a complex individual who provokes strong reactions from other
characters. The main factors are her lying, drinking and infatuations with men.
Unfortunately, these actions drive her to the final breaking point and lead her to an...

She tries to hold on to him but is unable to keep him attracted. Blanche is lost,
confused, conflicted, lashing out in sexual ways, and living in her out own fantasies.
She has no concern for anyone s well being, including her own. Thus, this is her utter
most harmful demise. She has no realistic outlook for the future.
In the end, Blanche Dubois is a tragic character. She works so hard to portray
herself as a young innocent woman. She only wanted to have a good, clean life.
Instead she acquired one full of pain, illusion and complexities with in her soul.
Her life crumbles from her own self destruction. By the end she is able to release
her true self through all the lies, drinking and infatuation with men. Her struggle
with fantasy and reality is more then she can bear, therefore driving her to insanity.
As she is taken to the mental hospital we can conclude that her self torture is over
and are witness of the final breakdown. All Blanche ever wanted was to be happy.
Though she may have never obtained the life she wanted or even dream of, through
the torture of her antics she is able to finally have closure.

Differences In The Outsiders Movie And Novel
The Outsiders movie and novel are both great. After finishing both I found out
they are very similar , but they also have some differences. The movie and novel
both share similarities that are very alike. For example , both have the same
characters , the church burns down , and the greasers and Socs both hate each
other. They might have these major similarities ,but they have a lot of very minor
differences. In The Outsiders there are a lot of similarities . For example , the
church that Ponyboy and Johnny stayed in burnt down . The story takes place in
Tulsa Oklahoma . They might be similar , but they have some differences as well . A
major differenceis that in the book the greasers live on the East

Doodle is incapable of being as active as the narrator. Everybody thought he was

Doodle was born with health condition that make him weaker and incapable of

neon Essay
Did you know that neon is a Greek word that means quot;new quot;? Neon is the
element that I am most interested in. I chose to do neon because I found out what
many uses it has in our daily life. Neon is the element that allows you to watch TV.
Without neon we would never see the cool flashing signs outside of diners and bars.
In my essay I am going to tell you about neon and its many uses.
First, I m going to tell you about the history and uses of neon. Neon was discovered
by Sir William Ramsay, a Scottish chemist, and Morris M. Travers, an English
chemist, shortly after their discovery of the element krypton in 1898. Neon is one of
the most amusing elements used today. Neon mixed with some other elements ...

All there is to talk about neon now is about how it integrates into our life. To show
you the integration in our society I will demonstrate a situation in which neon comes
into play. Imagine walking around in Las Vegas with your friends looking to have a
good time before your business meeting the next day. You look up and see giant signs
that flash and move around advertising casinos and restaurants. Those signs are
discharge tubes holding the active ingredients of our friend neon and his buddy

walk over to the nearest craps table. You play craps for a couple hours and decide to

get a drink and you notice a TV with the Lakers game on. You look up at the TV
and notice they are losing 84 to 36. The television has a tube in it that holds neon to
project things onto the glass screen you see, without neon you wouldn t be able to
watch any of your favorite shows. When you are finished eating your friends ask if
you want to go to the Smithsonian observation museum about 10 miles away from
downtown Las Vegas. You agree and pile into your rented Mercedes Benz SRX. As

It is widely agreed that social media has got many advantages in our live. Using
social media has become a daily routine by many people all over the world. People

Robert Browning And Porphyria s Lover
The Master of Drama : Robert Browning and Porphyria s Lover
Robert Browning was an English poet and playwright who mastered dramatic
poems, which made him one of the most influential Victorian poets. Browning was
born in Camberwell, United Kingdom and died at the age of 77 in Venice, Italy.
Throughout his life he wrote many poems including My Last Duchess and
Porphyria s Lover ; he also wrote some plays including The Pied Piper of Hamelin
and Pippa Passes . Robert Browning was a much underappreciated poet until later in
his life; he wrote very dark and dramatic poems that people did not give credit to
until after his death.
Robert Browning was born on May 7, 1812, in Camberwell, United Kingdom, a

This co worker was Linda Tripp. Tripp and Lewinsky worked closely at The
Pentagon s public affairs office. In mid 1996, excited about her relationship,
Lewinsky told her about the affair. A few months after Tripp found out about the
affair she saw Kathleen Willey, a volunteer aide, coming out of Oval Office.
According to Tripp, Willey was missing her lipstick. In a later statement made by
Willey, she claimed Clinton had groped her. Tripp, knowing of Lewinsky s affair,
began to record phone conversations between them. She recorded direct evidence,
from Lewinski, which is evidence of a witness who testifies to the truth of the fact

Clinton s lawyer said, Linda Tripp is not to be believed (Newsweek article). On

How Gambling Should Be Made Illegal
Statistically, in 2010, the gambling industry in Canada was worth over $15 billion
dollars (Derek Miedeva)! That means that thousands of Canadians gamble each
month. Most gambling is done within a casino, consisting of slot machines, poker
tables, etc. Another way to gamble includes buying lottery tickets and simply
making a bet with a friend. People who gamble take a chance. Most times they take
a chance involving money or tangible objects where each can either be lost or won.
Most people think of gamblingas a fun way to spend and evening out, when in reality
gambling has become an everyday problem for those who become dependent on the
game. In the media, it is always brought to the attention of the public when someone
has won the million dollar jackpot or strikes gold at the casino. What is not brought
to the attention of others is how sometimes the gamble can take over someone s
entire life. Gambling should be made illegal due to the possibility of adapting an
addiction, leading to strains on the human body, the raise of crime and violence in
one s life, even though the gambling business provides economic and social benefits.
One serious outbreak caused by the act of gambling is the production of problem
gambling. Problem gambling is actually and impulse control disorder, where the
gambler cannot control his or her obsession. People easily become obsessed with
winning the more they play, but when they lose it all, the only goal in their mind is to
obtain that next
Esterification Lab Report
Jack Kelly
Experiment 2: Esterification
Organic Chemistry II Lab
CH224 53
Dr. Kwan
Introduction Experiment 2 involves an esterification reaction, shown in figure 1.
Each student was given an unknown, which consisted of an acid and alcohol mixed
together. The unknowns all had low molecular weights, causing them to have a strong
odor. For this reason, the unknowns were only supposed to be opened under the hood,
so that no strong scents were sitting in the lab. Each unknown was heated and mixed
with concentrated sulfuric acid, producing an ester and bi product of water, which can
be seen in figure 1 as well. The ester was purified through distillation, and the
components were separated during the distillation ... Show more content on

The experimental boiling point from distillation was compared to the literature
value, having an experimental value of 121 122В°C. the literature value of the
boiling point for Isopropyl Isobutyrate is 121В°C, which matches almost exactly
with the experimental value. The boiling point range for the ester itself was not
very large, although it did take a little bit of time for the temperature to rise. Once
the temperature rose, it leveled and was very consistent at 122В°C. the next value
used for identification was the refractive index. The experimental refractive index
was found to be 1.392, which is slightly different from the literature value of 1.421.
This could be due to human error or a misread in the refractive index itself.
Although the literature value from Dr. Kwan says 1.421, the literature value on
Sigma Aldrich gives a literature value of 1.388, which is much closer to the
experimental refractive index, assuring that it is the correct identity of the unknown.
The slight difference between the values may be due to an impurity that was left
inside of the ester at the time of the reading. Once the refractive index was
compared, the melting point of the 3,5 dinitrobenzoic acid compared. The
experimental value was found to be 120 123В°C, while the literature value was
found to be 123В°C. This value is exact to the literature, showing that the unknown
was extremely pure since it had a small range for its melting point and matched the
literature value. There was a decent amount of solid formed in the final portion of the
experiment. After reading the unknown, it was proven that the unknown was

Female Gender And Sexuality Constructed Through Sport
How is female gender and sexuality constructed through sport? Within sport, as
throughout society, gender differences exist. The socially constructed phenomenon
of gender dictates a dichotomous system whereby females are feminine and males
are masculine. Focusing on females specifically, society determines the feminine
traits and roles ascribed to this gender. Being domesticated, slender, passive and
heterosexual are a part of the desirable appearance that society has formed
surrounding femininity (Wolf, 1991). On the other side of the dichotomy is the
masculine realm that sport plays into. Sport is fuelled by muscle, power and
aggressiveness, which are behaviours and images associated to masculinity. Sport
therefore, defies all existing female gender ideals. It would be assumed that
females have no place within this institution due to the gender clash. However,
female athletes do exist, and many are very successful. For this to work, sport has
established and reinforced the social constructions of gender that exist in society.
Female athletes are viewed as inferior and are pushed into gender appropriate sports.
Furthermore, they are often labeled as masculine until they can prove otherwise, and
so great attempts are made to reassert femininity. The stigma associated to being
masculine or homosexual for female athletes is so great that many have become
irrationally fearful of this label. The sexualisation of the female body and overt
displays of heterosexuality are used in
Selection Of Participants By Hinduja And Patchin
Selection of Participants Hinduja and Patchin (2013) used random sampling from
33 middle and high schools in a large school district. The administrators randomly
selected two or three classes from each grade level, generating a sample of 4,441
students (Hinduja Patchin, 2013). Random sampling is effective because each
student from the population pool has a chance to be selected. The large sample size
creates the likelihood that the sample is representative of the population, making it
more generalizable (Sheperis, Young, Daniels, 2013). Yet, the randomized selection
was left to the administrator at each school, which could have decreased the
randomizationbecause they could have decided to use specific criteria, such as high
referral rate classes, which would have made the chances of selection unequal. The
selection could have been improved by assigning classes specific numbers that are
inputed into a random number generator for selection (Sheperis, Young, Daniels,
2010). This would help to ensure the selection was truly a random sample.
Gaining Permission Passive consent was gained from the parents of the research
participants (Hinduja, Young, Daniels, 2013). However, there was no mention as to
how the researchers gained access to the schools. Gaining access to the school sites
could be granted by asking the school district and individual school administrators for
approval. The researchers did follow ethical standards by obtaining informed consent
from parents
Tinnitus Research Papers
What Is Tinnitus?
If you have experienced sudden ringing in ear, then you may have a condition
called tinnitus. This is a condition that affects around 20 percent of adults. It is
often a sign of an underlying problem, such as a circulatory problem or ear injury. It
may also be a sign of hearing loss.
In addition to sudden ringing in ear, a person may notice a clicking, roaring or
hissing sound. One may hear the noise in one or both ears. In some cases, the noise
is so loud that a person is unable to concentrate.
What Causes Sudden Ringing In Ear?
There are a number of things that can possibly cause tinnitus. It can be caused by an
infection or blockage in the ear. It may also be caused by exposure to loud noises. In
fact, it is estimated that 90 percent of people with tinnitus have noise induced hearing
loss.
High blood pressure and heart disease can also cause tinnitus. This condition can also

Treatments For Tinnitus
There is no cure for tinnitus, but there are some things that can be done to manage
it. If your tinnitus is caused by the buildup of earwax, then removing the earwax can
help alleviate the sudden ringing in ear. Earwax can be removed by flushing the ear
out with warm water. It can also be removed with a device called a curette.
There are also some medications that can be used to reduce the tinnitus symptoms.
Valium, which is an anti anxiety medication, can be used to treat tinnitus.
Alprazolam, which is another medication, can also reduce tinnitus symptoms.
White noise machines can also be beneficial for people who suffer from tinnitus.
These machines create environmental sounds, such as ocean waves and falling rain.
Additionally, if a person suffers from noise induced tinnitus, then hearing aids can

The Bulge The Battle of the Bulge took place in the Ardennes Forest a region in
South Eastern Belgium near Luxembourg and France. This area is heavily wooded
and is scattered with deep ravines and dangerous rivers. The mountains are also
exceptionally daunting rising in heights around 700m. The Ardennes was an area
that the United States felt was the last place the Germans would attack; no one
expected the Germans would attack here especially not in the middle of winter. At
dawn on December 16, 1945 the silence was broken by an overwhelming artillery
attack on the United States. The attack was initiated with a German fighting force of

##hagavad Gita As Duty And Virtue Ethics In Bina Gupta
s...
What makes a person virtuous? What is virtue ethics and how does one display
virtue ethics? These questions have been asked and debated over and over again,
each time resulting in different answers. Bina Gupta attempts to answer this question
of the ages in his article Bhagavad Gita as Duty and Virtue Ethicsby declaring, So,
who is a virtuous person? A virtuous person knows what she is doing; chooses to act
for herself; and acts through an expression of a stable and mature character. In The
Mahabharata translated and abridged by R.K. Narayan, there are many of the cast of
thousands that grow in their character and display virtueethics. Each of these
characters develops through trial and situations they are thrust into or unwisely place
themselves in. There is one character that stands out and clearly displays virtue ethics
throughout the entirety of the narrative. This character is Draupadi, the daughter of
Drupada and wife to the Pandava brothers. Draupadi has a firm sense of her beliefs,
acts for herself, upholds the values of the culture, and holds others to the same
standard of virtuous behavior. Draupadi has a strong sense of what she believes are
ethical decisions and attitudes, and she lets these beliefs guide her actions.
Dhritarashtra, the king of Hastinapur, said of Draupadi Daughter, even in this trial
you have stood undaunted holding on to virtue. (65)
Firstly, Draupadi is a strong character, who knows what she is doing and chooses to
act for herself.
Symbolism In Rabbit Proof Fence
The 2002 controversial movie, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, aims
to enlighten the audience about the suffering of Indigenous Australians during The
Great Depression. Similar to this, the 1986 Play No Sugar has the same purpose. Set
in Northam, Western Australia, both texts utilise a first person point of view to
explore the hardships of surviving during the Great Depression, but with vastly
different characters. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks,
dialogue and symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly
different views on the Indigenous people and White Australians.
Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig,
a half caste Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her
cousin and sister in order to find her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of
this movie is to highlight the negative effects of attempting to assimilate a race that
does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines wanted was to
live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to
have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the
audience. They are able to imagine their children in Molly s situation and realise that
stealing the Aborigine children from their mothers was not right. Molly is
characterised as a strong, stubborn and courageous young girl who does everything
she can to make it back

Effect Of Myopia On Measuring Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness
ABSTRACT
Settings: Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt.
Purpose: To assess the influence of axial length (AL) and refractive status of the eye
on retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in myopic eyes measured by spectral
domain optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Methods: This study included 60 eyes of 60 healthy myopic individuals. Patients
with a history of glaucoma or any other concurrent ocular disease were excluded.
The peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured using a Spectralis OCT
(Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany). An average of 3 good quality scans
was used to get the thickness of the RNFL.
Results: The uncorrected inferior RNFL thickness showed the highest correlation
with AL (r = 0.81, r2 = 0.66, p 21 mm Hg in either eye; those with a history of ocular
trauma, intraocular or refractive surgery, or any ocular or neurologic disease that
could have affected the optic nerve head or RNFL or could cause a visual
disturbance; those who showed a closed or occludable angle by gonioscopy; and
those whose RNFL or optic discs indicated an RNFL defect or a disc anomaly by
fundus examination. The pupils of the eyes of the included subjects were
pharmacologically dilated. The eyes were then scanned by the same operator with
the Spectralis OCT system (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany). The

King Henry V Character Analysis
Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce
good leaders. However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is
acclaimed as the dynastic successor to England. Henry has a valid claim to the
French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With some
convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the
French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a
young age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was
young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper
ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he
seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s conduct
causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality, impartiality, and authority cause
him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be a just ruler. When
Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as possible,
and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry
becomes a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important
morals for a ruler such as humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age.
Henry shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the
siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once
more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2). By addressing the
soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as far
as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they
respond as motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold
his/her head higher than his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more
popular when he/she considers all people equally. Also, Henry is loved by the
Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of Canterbury and the Bishop
of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church, the Bishops
mention that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the

The Impact Of Gunpowder
Everyone knows what a gun is right? But do you REALLY know the impact that
gunpowder has caused? Gunpowder has been around for centuries, over
millennium. How has gunpowder effected Warfare, and life as we know it? You
would never think about how gunpowder may have affected the existence of the
electronic device you re using right now. But its effects are longer lasting than one
might have ever thought. The smart phone in your pocket? It exists because of the
Industrial revolution, which was powered by gunpowder. The Car you drive, the
toaster in your kitchen? All powered by gunpowder. Now let s start off from the
beginning of the discovery of gunpowder. In the early 900 s it was discovered on
accident. (5) Gunpowder was found originally in China, some Taoist monks were
trying as hard as they could to find a way to make an immortality potion. They
found out how it blew up if dropped or was set on fire, it was put to use against the
invading Mongols by the existing Song Dynasty in China right away. The first
recorded use of Gunpowder was when the Chinese strapped a tube filled with
Gunpowder to arrows; they then lit these arrows on fire and shot them at the
invading Mongolians. (5) They were extremely effective at scaring the Mongols
away. It would be comparison to scaring a newborn child with a popped balloon.
The reaction you get from them is similar to how a person would react if they never
knew what gunpowder was. Soon after that, the Chinese tried to put the
Hemingway Soldier s Home Analysis
Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21,1899 Oak Park IL and is said to be one of
the most influential writers in American history. He wrote the story Soldier s
Home which is a tale of a soldier who returns home from World War I as a
transformed person. The story tells us about his struggle to fit back into society
after his experience at war. After the war in 1919 when Krebs is back at home he
has a hard time adapting to the idea that he s no longer in Germany. He is with his
family but yet he doesn t feel he belongs there. Krebs feels like he should have
stayed in Germany instead of coming back home. When at home he found, himself

He used his own emotions and experiences to portray Krebs character. The story
helps illustrate what it was like for a war veteran to come home after everything that
they have been through (Putnam). After the war, in 1919 Hemingway returned home
to Oak Park just to face a difficult time of adjustment back into society. Once back
from war both physically and mentally tired from his war time injury s Hemingway
entered a time of adjustment in his life. Hemingway didn t seem to know what he
wanted to do with his life once he got home. during this time this wasn t uncommon
among returning soldiers. Hemingway was later able to talk about his home
experience after the war in his story Soldier s Home when he depicted himself as
the character of Harold Krebs. Hemingway, a World War I veteran, felt the need to
have to lie about his involvement in the war just to be heard by others.
Hemingway felt that lying about his war experience was the only way he could
get others besides his family to listen to him. Which eventually made him feel sick
due to the fact that he was an honorable man. The deception he practiced at home
even just amongst his family made him feel very uncomfortable and to the point he
no longer felt the desire to talk about it anymore. This also effected Krebs in the
story when it came to girls. He didn t want to put the effort forth of trying to court
someone if all he was going to was tell more lies. (Mayers
The Issue Of Mandatory Overtime For Nurses And Why It...
McIntyre s framework is a method of conducting in depth analysis that emphasizes
understanding issues in healthcare as complicated and multifactorial problems, while
exploring barriers to resolving the issue (McIntyre McDonald, 2014, p. 5). Using this
framework, this paper will provide an in depth analysis of the issue of mandatory
overtime for nurses, and why it should not be eliminated from use by hospital
management.
Situating the Topic
Working overtime is a prevalent practice among nurses that hospital management
uses to deal with staff shortages. According to Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU),
34% of Manitoba nurses reported working overtime (2014, p. 4). Most overtime
worked by nurses in Manitoba is voluntary, however, it is legal to mandate nurses to
work overtime if required. Three in 10 overtime shifts worked by nurses in Manitoba
are involuntary (MNU, 2010, p. 6). MNU defines mandatory overtime as a situation
in which the nurse refuses the offered overtime and the employer orders the nurse to
continue working after their assigned shift has ended (p. 7). Mandatory overtime is
seen as an absolute, last possible resort for hospital managers, after all other options
and possibilities have been exhausted (MNU, p. 6).
If the nurse being offered overtime determines they are too exhausted to provide safe,
competent, and compassionate care, the nurse may refuse to work the mandatory
overtime (College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba [CRNM], 2002, p. 1). Other

experience and my thoughts regarding my internship. The process of finding an
internship was very stressful for me. I honestly had no idea where to start or even

  • 2. Analysis of Will Smith s Party Starter In order to analyze Will Smith s song and video entitled Party Starter, it is important to understand the history of hip hop music. Hip hop music was created out of rap music. Rap has been around since the 1970s. It was originally used as a way for inner city African American youths to voice their daily struggles. Most rap songs had a simple beat with words spoken to the rhythm of the beat. These songs were usually upbeat even when the subject matter was serious. There was the impression or hope that things will get better. Soon, corporate record labels started to repackage rap music as it gained in popularity. The business minded executives were looking to create a wider appeal by erasing hip hop s historic function. Hip hop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new music was labeled hip hop. Many of today s hip hop artists grew up listening to classic rap or at least the 1990s gangsta versions. The lifestyle that was once frowned upon is now glamorized and sought after. Record companies seek out controversial artists that draw attention and free publicity in the media. Female artists are marketed as sex symbols. If they aren t, their careers are short lived. They may speak about equality between the sexes in their songs; they are still sexualized in a negative way in the media. They are disrespected and often referred to as bitch or ho . Exotic dancing is glamorized. Videos of half naked women dancing played on mainstream music networks has made today s youth feel that this behavior is acceptable. Will Smith s Party Starter conforms to the commercial and acceptable trends of hip hop in several ways. The way women are shown in the video is very typical of hip hop today. There are a lot of beautiful, scantily dressed women dancing in a provocative way. They are mostly African American women. The video portrays them as sex symbols. The clothing worn by Will Smith is also fits the commercialized image of hip hop. He has on baggy jeans, a warm up jacket, sneakers, a t shirt

The boy wore black shorts and sandals. At the time of his death he had been carrying a pouch of rice, a rifle, and three magazines of ammunition. (13). The use of imagery and detail in this book describes the hardships the soldiers had to overcome, adding to the somber tone conveyed throughout the book. In The Right Stuff, Tom Wolfe s use of imagery and detail helps paint a picture of the pilots situations. For example, A sheet of light hit Gus and the others, and the boiling voices dropped down to a rumble, or a buzz, and then you could make them out. There appeared to be hundreds of them, packed in shank to flank, sitting, standing, squatting. (85) Wolfe s meticulous descriptions of the pilots deaths and the difficulty of their jobs make it seem like he is praising the pilots for their courage and hard

I decided to observe the people that are working out at the gym, i was looking at the various people, exercises, and even the most popular area in the gym. The gym was very crowded with people. This is the only gym in my neighborhood and the monthly price for the gym goes low as 15$ a month. They also have special that allows you to get the first Two months free of no charge and if you have a 20$ Membership you can bring a guest with you. I made the conclusion based on these factors that s why the gym has so many customers. The time i have spent here i noticed that the members of this gym is predominantly African American. I can safely say that majority of them were from the Caribbean. This distinction was made because of my previous research on the types of people that purchase lottery tickets from the corner store across the street from the gym. Based on that research i discovered that most of the customers in the store had an accent and my neighborhood is predominantly African American this plays a huge role in the type of people that are seen in average inside the store or even the gym. I also noticed a few Spanish and White people as well but the amount wasn t nearly as large. It wasn t possible to determine the class of the people working out in the gym. The things i... Each social issue that a writer writes about is most often one that is impactful on their life. Most often authors who are African American write about racial segregation, or perhaps a religious man writes about the religious persecution he faces. People remember authors, such as Lorraine Hansberry, for writing about both racial segregation and the changing role of women in society. This is evident in A Raisin in the Sun. In her A Raisin in the Sun, Hansberry makes use of genderroles as part of characterization and the plot; she does this by switching the roles of genders, showing the different views on gender roles, and the battle... • 11. Sigmund Freud s Civilization And Its Discontents Sigmund Freud, in his book Civilization and Its Discontents, contests that humans are subject to savage, animalistic instincts. He opposes the Marxist value that humans are superior to their animal counterparts, rather, he holds, humans are quite like wolves to each other. With this claim, he explores how internal compositions work in the grand scheme, to create a working mechanism of society that tames and creates internal negotiations of behaviour and instinct. (also include what comes of the last question) Freud, a psychologist, had views that were at odds with Marxist values, derived from a philosopher and economist. Their views on what drives human nature are fundamentally different. Freud adhered to the belief that humans are enslaved by their instinctive forces. This is to say that humans are driven to seek out pleasure. Marx, on the other hand, believed that humans are motivated by their place in society through labour. His core value was the division of labor, and how it structures society. Freud understood man in a Darwinian sense, that man comes from natural selection, in the sense that Darwin insisted on its [homo sapiens] kinship with lesser cousins and observed that the stamp of [its] lowly origin was quite ineffaceable (12). This contrasts with the Marxist assumption that humans are different from animals, the belief in human exceptionalism. Under this presumption, Marx finds that abuse and violence occurs in consequence to disproportionate distributions

People who gamble take a chance. Most times they take a chance involving money or tangible objects where each can either be lost or won. Each student was given an unknown, which consisted of an acid and alcohol mixed together. The unknowns all had low molecular weights, causing them to have a strong odor. For this reason, the unknowns were only supposed to be opened under the hood, so that no strong scents were sitting in the lab. Each unknown was heated and mixed with concentrated sulfuric acid, producing an ester and bi product of water, which can be seen in figure 1 as well. The ester was purified through distillation, and the components were separated during the distillation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The experimental boiling point from distillation was compared to the literature value, having an experimental value of 121 122В°C. the literature value of the boiling point for Isopropyl Isobutyrate is 121В°C, which matches almost exactly with the experimental value. The boiling point range for the ester itself was not very large, although it did take a little bit of time for the temperature to rise. Once the temperature rose, it leveled and was very consistent at 122В°C. the next value used for identification was the refractive index. The experimental refractive index was found to be 1.392, which is slightly different from the literature value of 1.421. This could be due to human error or a misread in the refractive index itself. Although the literature value from Dr. Kwan says 1.421, the literature value on Sigma Aldrich gives a literature value of 1.388, which is much closer to the experimental refractive index, assuring that it is the correct identity of the unknown. The slight difference between the values may be due to an impurity that was left inside of the ester at the time of the reading. Once the refractive index was compared, the melting point of the 3,5 dinitrobenzoic acid compared. The experimental value was found to be 120 123В°C, while the literature value was found to be 123В°C. This value is exact to the literature, showing that the unknown was extremely pure since it had a small range for its melting point and matched the literature value. There was a decent amount of solid formed in the final portion of the experiment. After reading the unknown, it was proven that the unknown was Isopropyl Isobutyrate. • 27. Female Gender And Sexuality Constructed Through Sport How is female gender and sexuality constructed through sport? Within sport, as throughout society, gender differences exist. The socially constructed phenomenon of gender dictates a dichotomous system whereby females are feminine and males are masculine. Focusing on females specifically, society determines the feminine traits and roles ascribed to this gender. Being domesticated, slender, passive and heterosexual are a part of the desirable appearance that society has formed surrounding femininity (Wolf, 1991). On the other side of the dichotomy is the masculine realm that sport plays into. Sport is fuelled by muscle, power and aggressiveness, which are behaviours and images associated to masculinity. Sport therefore, defies all existing female gender ideals. It would be assumed that females have no place within this institution due to the gender clash. However, female athletes do exist, and many are very successful. For this to work, sport has established and reinforced the social constructions of gender that exist in society. Female athletes are viewed as inferior and are pushed into gender appropriate sports. Furthermore, they are often labeled as masculine until they can prove otherwise, and so great attempts are made to reassert femininity. The stigma associated to being masculine or homosexual for female athletes is so great that many have become irrationally fearful of this label. The sexualisation of the female body and overt displays of heterosexuality are used in
  • 28. Selection Of Participants By Hinduja And Patchin Selection of Participants Hinduja and Patchin (2013) used random sampling from 33 middle and high schools in a large school district. The administrators randomly selected two or three classes from each grade level, generating a sample of 4,441 students (Hinduja Patchin, 2013). Random sampling is effective because each student from the population pool has a chance to be selected. The large sample size creates the likelihood that the sample is representative of the population, making it more generalizable (Sheperis, Young, Daniels, 2013). Yet, the randomized selection was left to the administrator at each school, which could have decreased the randomizationbecause they could have decided to use specific criteria, such as high referral rate classes, which would have made the chances of selection unequal. The selection could have been improved by assigning classes specific numbers that are inputed into a random number generator for selection (Sheperis, Young, Daniels, 2010). This would help to ensure the selection was truly a random sample. Gaining Permission Passive consent was gained from the parents of the research participants (Hinduja, Young, Daniels, 2013). However, there was no mention as to how the researchers gained access to the schools. Gaining access to the school sites could be granted by asking the school district and individual school administrators for approval. The researchers did follow ethical standards by obtaining informed consent from parents

These questions have been asked and debated over and over again, each time resulting in different answers. Bina Gupta attempts to answer this question of the ages in his article Bhagavad Gita as Duty and Virtue Ethicsby declaring, So, who is a virtuous person? A virtuous person knows what she is doing; chooses to act for herself; and acts through an expression of a stable and mature character. In The Mahabharata translated and abridged by R.K. Narayan, there are many of the cast of thousands that grow in their character and display virtueethics. Each of these characters develops through trial and situations they are thrust into or unwisely place themselves in. There is one character that stands out and clearly displays virtue ethics throughout the entirety of the narrative. This character is Draupadi, the daughter of Drupada and wife to the Pandava brothers. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks, dialogue and symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly different views on the Indigenous people and White Australians. Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig, a half caste Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her cousin and sister in order to find her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of this movie is to highlight the negative effects of attempting to assimilate a race that does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines wanted was to live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the audience. They are able to imagine their children in Molly s situation and realise that stealing the Aborigine children from their mothers was not right. Molly is characterised as a strong, stubborn and courageous young girl who does everything she can to make it back

The man that rules with a heavy hand controls everything, deciding our worth and selling us to the white men rumored to have been coming to the coast, taking our people to new lands. I prayed for the last friend a person ever has, death, to relieve me; but to my utmost disappointment the white men came down to provide us with food. The thought of food nauseated me, and I refused to eat. Quickly, one held me by my hands, another tying my feet, then laid me across what I believed was to be the windlass. They flogged me severely. I had never experienced anything like that before, and for the first time I thought of jumping into an element I had naturally feared, the water. I thought about jumping over the side, but knew it was almost impossible, as those who were not chained on the deck were monitored closely by the crew. Those that attempted were severely cut, as I had witnessed this first hand from other African prisoners attempting to jump over. Those of us that refused to eat in hopes of dying were hourly whipped. Effect Of Myopia On Measuring Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness ABSTRACT Settings: Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt. Purpose: To assess the influence of axial length (AL) and refractive status of the eye on retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in myopic eyes measured by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT). Methods: This study included 60 eyes of 60 healthy myopic individuals. Patients with a history of glaucoma or any other concurrent ocular disease were excluded. The peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured using a Spectralis OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany). An average of 3 good quality scans was used to get the thickness of the RNFL. Results: The uncorrected inferior RNFL thickness showed the highest correlation with AL (r = 0.81, r2 = 0.66, p 21 mm Hg in either eye; those with a history of ocular trauma, intraocular or refractive surgery, or any ocular or neurologic disease that could have affected the optic nerve head or RNFL or could cause a visual disturbance; those who showed a closed or occludable angle by gonioscopy; and those whose RNFL or optic discs indicated an RNFL defect or a disc anomaly by fundus examination. The pupils of the eyes of the included subjects were pharmacologically dilated. The eyes were then scanned by the same operator with the Spectralis OCT system (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany). The software used was Heidelberg Eye Explorer version 1.6.4.0

He wrote the story Soldier s Home which is a tale of a soldier who returns home from World War I as a transformed person. The story tells us about his struggle to fit back into society after his experience at war. After the war in 1919 when Krebs is back at home he has a hard time adapting to the idea that he s no longer in Germany. He is with his family but yet he doesn t feel he belongs there. The story helps illustrate what it was like for a war veteran to come home after everything that they have been through (Putnam). After the war, in 1919 Hemingway returned home to Oak Park just to face a difficult time of adjustment back into society. Once back from war both physically and mentally tired from his war time injury s Hemingway entered a time of adjustment in his life. Hemingway didn t seem to know what he wanted to do with his life once he got home. during this time this wasn t uncommon among returning soldiers. Hemingway was later able to talk about his home experience after the war in his story Soldier s Home when he depicted himself as the character of Harold Krebs. Hemingway, a World War I veteran, felt the need to have to lie about his involvement in the war just to be heard by others. Hemingway felt that lying about his war experience was the only way he could get others besides his family to listen to him. Which eventually made him feel sick due to the fact that he was an honorable man. The deception he practiced at home even just amongst his family made him feel very uncomfortable and to the point he no longer felt the desire to talk about it anymore. This also effected Krebs in the story when it came to girls. He didn t want to put the effort forth of trying to court someone if all he was going to was tell more lies. (Mayers
  • 43. The Issue Of Mandatory Overtime For Nurses And Why It... McIntyre s framework is a method of conducting in depth analysis that emphasizes understanding issues in healthcare as complicated and multifactorial problems, while exploring barriers to resolving the issue (McIntyre McDonald, 2014, p. 5). Using this framework, this paper will provide an in depth analysis of the issue of mandatory overtime for nurses, and why it should not be eliminated from use by hospital management. Situating the Topic Working overtime is a prevalent practice among nurses that hospital management uses to deal with staff shortages. According to Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU), 34% of Manitoba nurses reported working overtime (2014, p. 4). Most overtime worked by nurses in Manitoba is voluntary, however, it is legal to mandate nurses to work overtime if required. Three in 10 overtime shifts worked by nurses in Manitoba are involuntary (MNU, 2010, p. 6). MNU defines mandatory overtime as a situation in which the nurse refuses the offered overtime and the employer orders the nurse to continue working after their assigned shift has ended (p. 7). Mandatory overtime is seen as an absolute, last possible resort for hospital managers, after all other options and possibilities have been exhausted (MNU, p. 6). If the nurse being offered overtime determines they are too exhausted to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care, the nurse may refuse to work the mandatory overtime (College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba [CRNM], 2002, p. 1). Other potential

I honestly had no idea where to start or even what I was interested in. It took me many weeks to do research into different facilities that had internships available. After calling tons of organizations I finally interviewed at one that felt right for me. The interview took place with Laura Crain, who I also interviewed for this essay. The internship is at the McHenry County Substance AbuseCoalition. The McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition is located in Woodstock, IL. It was started 16 years ago by a small group of treatment providers who recognized the growing danger presented by the rise in Heroin abuse in our communities. At the time, there was little awareness of this new trend of abuse of this dangerous drug. This
