The Dial O Matic is the best kitchen appliance out there! The Dial O Matic was super affordable for
me to buy at only $9.99. I was not disappointed with the appliance and its performance. When I first

Eddie Aikau Research Paper
Being a native to Hawaii was a helpful push towards legendary status for Eddie Aikau. The act of
riding waves with a wooden type board originated in Western Polynesia over three thousand years ago
(The Origins of Surfing). The first Polynesian settlers to land in Hawaii were said to be skilled in
simple surfing, and after a few hundred years of riding waves in Hawaii, the well known Hawaiian
form of the sport emerged (The Origins of Surfing). Eddie Aikau propelled in surfing because of his
love for the ocean, his job as a lifeguard, and his first surfing competitions.
Eddie Aikau s love for the ocean shined through on a surfboard. Most people enjoy the ocean in the
summer months when the ocean is placid and family friendly but Eddie loved the ocean all year
around. (Pasulka). When it came to surfing, it was never a competition for Eddie. Surfing for Eddie
was a connection to the ocean and the ancestral roots that were found within each wave he rode
(Rolland). Surfing was symbolized as being one of the last traditional arts that the Hawaiian people
practiced, and when Eddie surfed, it was a revival for his people every time he was in the water

(Dubiel). Eddie never even had a high school diploma, but because he was such an extraordinary
surfer he was awarded the position (Dubiel). There was never a loss of life while Eddie was on duty

Summary Of On Going Home By Joan Didion
For the first time in 130 years, more young adults are living with parents until their mid thirties. Part
of this could be an emotional attachment keeping them from leaving home because after they leave,
everything will change. However, many are losing their real sense of home and are just using it as a
place where they can avoid paying bills and many other responsibilities. Many young adults now do
not understand the extensive sacrifice it is to leave their one and only home. In On Going Home, Joan
Didion expounds on her struggle to connect with her current house, in a nostalgic and resigned tone,
and vivid imagery, symbolism, and comparison Didion expresses the regret she feels every time she
remembers she left her home . The essay it s based on the time Didion visited her parents home to
celebrate her daughter s 1 year old birthday. Throughout the visit Didion couldn t help but feel
resentment to leave her home . Didion stated that she came to dread my husband s evening call
because she didn t want to go back to Los Angeles or even be reminded of it (2). Didion wishes she
could stay in her home where she is completely happy. We find her desperately looking around the
house for her past around every corner, inside every cupboard she aimlessly goes from room to room
looking for something she once lost and will never get back (2). Didion feels the need to reconnect
with her family and, although not stated, Didion longs to go back in time and prevent

Quantitative Study Of Heat And Enthalpy Changes
PART A
Thermochemistry is the quantitative study of heat and enthalpy changes in chemical reactions.
Enthalpy (H) ... is a measure of the total energy possessed by a substance or group of substances.
(Smith 2006, pp. 289). The change in enthalpy (∆H) of a substance is defined as the heat absorbed or
released during a chemical reaction.
A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore
assisting with the movement of a car.
A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of
a hydrocarbon reacting with oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).
A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4)
and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a combustion reaction
is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of
methane (CH4) is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is:
2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g)
+13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). If combustion takes place internally, the engine is referred to as
an internal combustion engine. A diesel engine is an example of this. Internal combustion engines
convert the chemical energy in fuel to mechanical energy via an exothermic reaction.
An internal combustion engine, mainly consists of a

The Beliefs Of Rabbinic Judaism
1. Rabbinic Judaism Rabbinic Judaism is a Judaism centered around the teachings and writings of
Rabbis. Its formation began over 1,900 years ago when the Second Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.
Rabbinic Judaism consists of several branches. Those Branches include Orthodox, Conservative,
Reform and Reconstructionist. Rabbinical Judaism involves the teachings and writings of the Mishna
and the Talmud, which are considered to be the Oral Torah made up of both spoken laws passed down
by GOD to Moses as well as rabbinical commentary on the Torah. Rabbinic Judaism believes that oral
tradition is important. They also believe that the only way the Torah can be preserved is through the
oral law, the only way this can be done is through the rabbi. Whereas Biblical Judaism rely mainly on
scriptures. Rabbinic Jews also receives their guidance in the written word of God from the Halakah.
2. Branches of Judaism
The four branches of Judaism are Orthodox, Reform, Conservative, and Reconstructionist Judaism.
Orthodox Judaism is the modern classification for the traditional Jewish ways that upholds the halakic
way of life that comes from the Torah. Reform Judaism which is also known as liberal or progressive
Judaism subjects religious law and customs to human judgment. They try to approach the Torah from
a modern day aspect instead of from the times they were written in. Conservative Judaism was
established as a reaction to Judaism s liberalism. Its purpose was to conserve tradition by

Master Of Science Degree Programs
Master of Science Degree Programs
This entry gives a general overview of online Master of Science programs, then specifically examines
programs in high demand and those offered in accelerated formats. Next, the entry focuses on
information students need to succeed in M.S. programs: how to find the right program, and a major
problem that they will likely face during online matriculation.
A Master of Science degree (in Latin, Magister Scientaie) is a postgraduate academic Master s Degree
awarded by universities worldwide. In abbreviated form, the degree may appear on academic
transcripts variously as MSc., M.Sc., M.Sci., M.Si., Sc.M., M.S., MS, AM or SM. After the Master of

The latter option is most common. It involves writing and defending a thesis or completing a research
project which represents the culmination of the material learned.
Admission to a Master s program is normally contingent upon holding a bachelor s degree. Should the
student desire to graduate from a doctoral program, Master s level training is a prerequisite. In some
fields or graduate programs, work on a doctorate can begin as soon as the bachelor s degree is
finished. Some programs offer a joint Bachelor s and Master s degree after four to five years of study.
At the completion of these programs both a B.A. and an M.S. can be awarded.
For thesis projects, students will typically work with an academic adviser to propose a topic, write a
research prospectus and draft a final paper describing the research results. The research process takes
about one year. The thesis is then reviewed by the student s academic committee who must approve
the paper before the student can proceed to graduation. If revisions are needed, graduation could be
delayed for one or more semesters.
Many graduate schools have residency requirements to complete a degree. A student may be required
to spend at least one year living on campus and must accumulate a minimum number of course credits
to be considered eligible for his degree. As online graduate education advanced, this residency
requirement has been adjusted. Matriculation online may

was in a relationship, but his girlfriend recently broke it off but he began to take pills again. In his
professional life he is a board certified diagnostician specializing in infectious disease and nephrology.
Mr. House talks openly about his childhood. He is the only child of John and Blythe House. John is a
retired marine, and Blythe is a stay at home mom. When Mr. House was 12 years old he discovered
that John was not his biological father. He never found out who his real father was. Mr. House said he
often rebelled against his father, and as a result his father would discipline him by making him take ice
baths and sleeping outside. He said his father was both physically abusive and emotionally distant. He
also described his dad as both harsh and demanding. Mr. House believes his dad s abuse may have
been his way of expressing his frustration over his wife s infidelity. Mr. House describes his mother

Government-Funded Independent Schools Essays
An analysis of charter schools government funded independent schools that offer either a special
theme or are required to meet a particular performance indicator (Davies Guppy, 2006) as an
alternative to mainstream public education reveals that charter schools should be notnot be supported
for several reasons. First, in terms of academic performance, there is little evidence that charter school
students fare better than public school students (Murphy, 2003). Second, as new providers of
education, advocates claim charter schools bring innovative and fresh new thinking to schooling
practices (Davies Guppy, 2006), but research has found there is weak evidence to support such a
claim. Finally, proponents of charter schools and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is opposed to the one size fits all approach of the public education system (Davies Guppy, 2006).
Consequently, student learning and performance should increase. However, there is little evidence to
support this claim; studies have found that improvements in learning are not significant and are similar
to the achievement gains in regular public schools (Murphy, 2003).
The absence of an alleged increase in academic achievement in charter schools compared to public
schools is further supported by a study on the results of the 2003 National Assessment of Educational
Progress (NAEP) mathematics exam in the U.S. The study compared the math scores of 190,000
fourth graders and 153,000 eight graders students from 13,577 public, private and charter schools
(Lubienski Lubienski, 2006). As opposed to reading, math is more influenced by school than home
experiences and thus, math scores offer better insights into the performance of different types of
schools relative to one another (Lubienski Lubienski, 2006). Once differences in location and
demographics were controlled, the study found that the fourth graders in charter schools actually
scored a statistically significant 4.4 points lower than public schools, but eight graders in charter
schools scored a statistically insignificant 2.4 points higher than public schools (Lubienski Lubienski,
2006). Clearly, the findings of this study refute

Helping The Homeless Population With Survival Kits
Responsible leaders take seriously the need of the people they provide assistance to. During
supervision, while working with the homeless in seeking housing resources, there has been other
needs that the people requested during their visits to the office such as showering or washing their
clothes. In doing so, they also needed basic toiletries and clothing especially during the winter months,
they need warm clothing. However, working in an organization with limited funds and with it s
current status of state funding budget cuts, creates a larger barrier in the need to provide necessary
items for those that are experiencing homelessness. As the barriers were presented, it was discovered
that the organization has a need to request donations for the purpose of providing assistance to the
homeless population with survival kits to become proactive for the people s health and wellness.
However, some issues with requesting donations were presented. But a goal was set to commit to the
cause.
The initial barrier as an employee of a non profit organization, there is no support from the hierarchy

receive services beyond the homeless program. In sharing with the Chief Administrator Officer, it was
approved to create the drive under the organization s 50(c)3 and tax exempt number. However, all
connections of donations must be directed to the Marketing Department. The Marketing

The Battle Over American Dietary Guidelines
The battle over American dietary guidelines has been raging for decades. One of the most
controversial issues in nutrition? Fat and sugar. For the past thirty years, we ve been instructed that a
low fat, high carb diet is the best way to lose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle. In 1955, US
President Dwight Eisenhower suffered a heart attack, and worked with his chief physician to
encourage Americans to cut down on fat and cholesterol, stating that this would be the best way to
avoid future heart disease. The first official government dietary guidelines were published in 1980,
and they too advised Americans to limit fat and increase carbs. And though this diet surged in
popularity (Remember the low fat craze in the 80s and 90s?), many are convinced it s actually the
exact opposite of how we should be eating, and that sugar is biggest problem when it comes to weight
gain and health problems. A recent article in The Guardian explores this controversy, and ventures to
explain how we could have gotten so tangled up in this wild web of fat versus sugar. The article
begins by introducing two important figures: Robert Lustig and John Yudkin. Lustig is something of a
celebrity; his 90 minute talk titled Sugar: The Bitter Truth, has been viewed more than six million
times on YouTube, and argues that fructose is the culprit behind a majority of American health
problems. And while Lustig originally believed his idea to be revolutionary, he soon came to find that

Examples Of Semiotic Analysis
1. Introduction and Background In this essay I will evaluate the various components used to construct
meaning in Figure 1 by means of a semiotic analysis. I will discuss the theory of certain semiotic
concepts and apply them to Figure 1 throughout the text. The image in Figure 1 delivers a visual
message and it is supported by illustrated text, three captions, and two logos. The knowledge
necessary to interpret the illustration is knowledge of writing and English (Barthes 1977: 153). This

of celebrity endorsement. 1.1 Context and Representation of Figure 1 The People for the Ethical

The And Its Effects On The Food Industry
While FM provide a more practical aspect to MG, barriers to the use of MG are mainly due to its
various perceptions and the question of whether it would be enough to constitute a real paradigm shift.
According to This (2013), the way food is prepared has gone through very slow and minor changes,
relative to other fields. While more energy efficient stoves have been manufactured, the stove is a
ubiquitous appliance in the kitchen despite the fact that most of the heat produced is wasted to the
surroundings instead of applied directly to the pan and food. There are several reasons for the
relatively slow growth of the food industry. From an anthropological viewpoint, humans are naturally

Causes Of Bismarck Unification Germany
Many believe that Prince Otto Edward Leopold von Bismarck, later known as just Bismarck, was the
main reason for German unification. Bismarck was the first chancellor of this new country as
Bismarck had changed 39 smaller states, into one large industrial power. The unification of Germany
had a large impact on the balance of powers in Europe. Bismarck dominated Germany and European
politics for nearly 30 years. However some historians argue that Bismarck was only this successful
and powerful because of circumstances out of his control. Nationalism and liberalism were rising as
an ideology, the decline of Austria had an effect and 1848 was nicknamed as a year of revolutions due
to the amount of revolutions that took place also factored in, but at the heart of all these is Bismarck s
use of deception and realpolitik and manipulating situations to his advantage.
The traditional belief that Bismarck unified Germany because of the wars with France Austria and
Denmark. Although these are important in the grand scheme of unifying Germany. For Bismarck to
provoke these wars and turn them into his advantage, foundations had to be laid to support these
actions other factors had been in place to support Bismarck and his belief for a unified Germany.
Nationalism was one of these factors. Revolutions flourished and changed countries in Europe. One of
these was the coup d état led by Napoleon Bonaparte to save France from the terror reign of
Robespierre., He aimed to unite the whole

natural order of life is the balance signaling there is always a price to pay for an achievement. In line
with the explosion of the information and technology development, the quality of life has been
literally perceived as jumping onto a higher level of realm. But on the other side of the scale is the
humanity, the price to pay for such an advance achievement. Consequently there is the need to look
into the matter on whether the technology should advance the humanity or it should be the otherwise.
Therefore, this report will focus on the causes and the effects of the problems arisen, thus outlined few

Good communications skills will no longer go verbally but upon a long sour facial expression, or even
in written form. Verbal communication has always been the best medium in delivering day to day
conversation, sharing thoughts and ideologies, thus nurturing a good social responsibility among the
society. With verbal communication at stake, the social responsibility has also being driven onto the
cliff, just a step towards rolling down the hill. We can no longer practice good discussions skills, daily
conversations are no longer moderate. There is a call to climb back the cliff to rectify the problems. It
is belief the implementation of the employee monitoring system can enhance the information
transferring system thus improving the communication system. With the widespread of such working
environment, next comes the misused of the communication and information technology. Blackmail
and poison pen letter have since become threats. Dissatisfaction now leads to direct complaint to the
superior without direct confrontation or discussion; even a compliment can turn into a complaint with
such scenario growing firm affectively in the habit formation. Lot of reports has been lodged without
thorough investigation, even worse when it is a blind accusation where the innocents have to take on
the blame. A bunch of ants can also be a disaster; the growing numbers of complaints also bring chaos
to the management. Worse still, most of the

My Experience At Arizona State University, Everything Is...
This is the first year that I been study at Arizona State University, everything is new for me. After
learned ENG194, I truly learned a lot about how to write a good essay, how to write a good email,
how to take an interview with other, how to take the team presentation, how to apply a job. All the
knowledge from this class are very useful.
In the first project, I knew how to write a professional email. Actually, I never use email in my high
school, so I did not know how to write an email. Before the class, I just use the way that how to write
a mail to write an email to my professors. The text and the Messenger are very popular in our life. But
mails or texts are different with official email. On the one hand, every email must include a formal
opening and closing. Writing Dear Professor in the beginning, and writing Thanks in the end. It is just
the rule of the email, and we need to say dear even if the recipient is a old man. On the other hand, the
language choose in text is unlimited. The abbreviations are very common in text, because it is more
convenience. But we cannot use ASAP in official email, whatever Professors understand it means as
soon as possible or not.
The second project was the very difficult assignment for me. I need to make an interview with others.
There is no doubt that I never made an interview before. When I was a junior school student, I always
made some trouble. Once I played a very dangerous game that upthrow other students. My teacher

Hollywood Film Industry s Role In The Bush Administration
This study intends to determine whether the Hollywood film industry and the American media have
played a role in the Bush administration s War on Terror that was declared following the 9/11 2001
attacks, by influencing, informing or misinforming, and by encouraging or condemning it. Hypotheses
are that the magnitude of the terrorist attacks was such that the American mass media were pressured
by strong feelings of patriotism and eager to serve national interest , at the risk of failing to cover
news objectively and thoroughly, and that, consequently, the American public let the Bush
administration carry out a disastrous foreign policy in the Middle East. The study has shown that these
hypotheses are well founded, and demonstrates that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believed that both are powerful forms of entertainment as well as sources of information for a
broad range of Americans, of different ages and backgrounds. For this reason, the mass media, which
include movies, may have been used as tools by the American government and military to sell a war
that at first provoked mixed reactions, and which, in addition was carried out for illegitimate reasons,
though they were initially concealed from the public. This topic is particularly interesting as it is about
a country that is regarded as the world s top superpower of this era, at least militarily speaking, and
that defines itself as the world s first and oldest democracy. This is, however, a disputable claim,
especially as it is believed that in order to justify their actions and War on Terror policies, the U.S.
military and government made a great use of misinformation, lie and framing, that is, methods of
propaganda, to the detriment of Americans themselves and of the rest of the world. Furthermore, the
U.S. foreign policy has resulted in the death of millions of civilians in the Middle East, in the
destruction of rather stable, although unquestionably totalitarian societies, and in a chaotic and
concerning socio economic situation in the Middle East, beyond Iraq and Afghanistan. What is more,
it has been established that the Bush administration s decision to invade the Middle East for debatable
reasons has resulted in the rise of anti Americanism and anti Western feelings, and greatly contributed
to radicalisation, as the rising terrorist organization Islamic State has

African Americans During The Reconstruction Era
Even though the voting rights issue did not end with the Reconstruction era, it inspired many African
Americans to rise and to establish a new leadership platform. The enlightenment period of the radical
reconstruction brought a more active role in the political, economic, and social life of the south with
the Republican domination in the 1866 elections; it introduced a new era for African Americans (
Black Leaders ). With the ratification of the 14th and 15th amendments and the spread of political
activism towards African Americans through festive parades, protests, and community meetings,
African Americans challenged themselves with the task of serving in a political office because African
Americans never had a voice to speak for them

Role Of Merit In Buddhism
This week s readings are focused on how Buddhist monasteries in China and India play an important
role in producing merit. Both Lopez and Gethin explain the differences each region played in
producing merit through devotional practices. Lopez explains in chapter 27, how monasteries in China
implemented acts of merit into their daily practice. In addition Gethin illustrates how monks in India
lived their lives practicing merit. Even though Buddhist monasteries play a significant role in
producing meritorious acts, the lay community is significant. All four assemblies of monks, nuns,
male lay followers and female lay followers played a role in producing merit. Merit plays a significant
role in the Buddhist monasteries. Merit is not signally

The Global Population Is Ageing At An Alarming Rate
The global population is ageing at an alarming rate, with over eight precent of the world s population
over 65 and this number is expected to double by the year 2030 (International Federation for Social
Workers, 2012). For Huffnung et. al. (2010), late adulthood encompasses the years following 65 and is
characterised by a period of substantial decline in functioning including physical, psychological and
social. Whilst dementia is not an inevitable part of the ageing process, it has however due to the
ageing population become more prevalent within society, especially within remote aboriginal
communities (Brodaty Cumming 2010 cited in Jones Creedy 2012, p.44). Dementia does not refer to a
single disease rather, a group of symptoms specifically retaining to the cognitive impairment of
individual which later progresses to effect both physical and the social function of sufferers.
Developed by Engel (1977), the biopyschosocial model can be used to examine the progression of this
disease during late adulthood. Thus, late adulthood is seen as a period of significant change with
individual facing unique challenges in regards to development.
Dementia is an emerging global health problem, with the prevalence of this disease estimated to sit at
twenty five million people as of 2003 (Arkles et al., 2014, p.6). However, due to the ageing population
these figures are expected to double every twenty years and is estimated that by the year 2040 that
eighty one million people will be

The act of riding waves with a wooden type board originated in Western Polynesia over three thousand years ago (The Origins of Surfing). The first Polynesian settlers to land in Hawaii were said to be skilled in simple surfing, and after a few hundred years of riding waves in Hawaii, the well known Hawaiian form of the sport emerged (The Origins of Surfing). Eddie Aikau propelled in surfing because of his love for the ocean, his job as a lifeguard, and his first surfing competitions. Eddie Aikau s love for the ocean shined through on a surfboard. Most people enjoy the ocean in the summer months when the ocean is placid and family friendly but Eddie loved the ocean all year around. (Pasulka). When it came to surfing, it was never a competition for Eddie. Surfing for Eddie was a connection to the ocean and the ancestral roots that were found within each wave he rode (Rolland). Surfing was symbolized as being one of the last traditional arts that the Hawaiian people practiced, and when Eddie surfed, it was a revival for his people every time he was in the water (Rolland). • 4. Summary Of On Going Home By Joan Didion For the first time in 130 years, more young adults are living with parents until their mid thirties. Part of this could be an emotional attachment keeping them from leaving home because after they leave, everything will change. However, many are losing their real sense of home and are just using it as a place where they can avoid paying bills and many other responsibilities. Many young adults now do not understand the extensive sacrifice it is to leave their one and only home. In On Going Home, Joan Didion expounds on her struggle to connect with her current house, in a nostalgic and resigned tone, and vivid imagery, symbolism, and comparison Didion expresses the regret she feels every time she remembers she left her home . The essay it s based on the time Didion visited her parents home to celebrate her daughter s 1 year old birthday. Throughout the visit Didion couldn t help but feel resentment to leave her home . Didion stated that she came to dread my husband s evening call because she didn t want to go back to Los Angeles or even be reminded of it (2). Didion wishes she could stay in her home where she is completely happy. We find her desperately looking around the house for her past around every corner, inside every cupboard she aimlessly goes from room to room looking for something she once lost and will never get back (2). Didion feels the need to reconnect with her family and, although not stated, Didion longs to go back in time and prevent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Enthalpy (H) ... is a measure of the total energy possessed by a substance or group of substances. (Smith 2006, pp. 289). The change in enthalpy (∆H) of a substance is defined as the heat absorbed or released during a chemical reaction. A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore assisting with the movement of a car. A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of a hydrocarbon reacting with oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4) and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a combustion reaction is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of methane (CH4) is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is: 2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g) +13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). If combustion takes place internally, the engine is referred to as an internal combustion engine. A diesel engine is an example of this. Internal combustion engines convert the chemical energy in fuel to mechanical energy via an exothermic reaction. An internal combustion engine, mainly consists of a ... Government-Funded Independent Schools Essays An analysis of charter schools government funded independent schools that offer either a special theme or are required to meet a particular performance indicator (Davies Guppy, 2006) as an alternative to mainstream public education reveals that charter schools should be notnot be supported for several reasons. First, in terms of academic performance, there is little evidence that charter school students fare better than public school students (Murphy, 2003). Second, as new providers of education, advocates claim charter schools bring innovative and fresh new thinking to schooling practices (Davies Guppy, 2006), but research has found there is weak evidence to support such a claim. Consequently, student learning and performance should increase. However, there is little evidence to support this claim; studies have found that improvements in learning are not significant and are similar to the achievement gains in regular public schools (Murphy, 2003). The absence of an alleged increase in academic achievement in charter schools compared to public schools is further supported by a study on the results of the 2003 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) mathematics exam in the U.S. The study compared the math scores of 190,000 fourth graders and 153,000 eight graders students from 13,577 public, private and charter schools (Lubienski Lubienski, 2006). As opposed to reading, math is more influenced by school than home experiences and thus, math scores offer better insights into the performance of different types of schools relative to one another (Lubienski Lubienski, 2006). Once differences in location and demographics were controlled, the study found that the fourth graders in charter schools actually scored a statistically significant 4.4 points lower than public schools, but eight graders in charter schools scored a statistically insignificant 2.4 points higher than public schools (Lubienski Lubienski, 2006). During supervision, while working with the homeless in seeking housing resources, there has been other needs that the people requested during their visits to the office such as showering or washing their clothes. In doing so, they also needed basic toiletries and clothing especially during the winter months, they need warm clothing. However, working in an organization with limited funds and with it s current status of state funding budget cuts, creates a larger barrier in the need to provide necessary items for those that are experiencing homelessness. As the barriers were presented, it was discovered that the organization has a need to request donations for the purpose of providing assistance to the homeless population with survival kits to become proactive for the people s health and wellness. However, some issues with requesting donations were presented. But a goal was set to commit to the cause. • 15. The Battle Over American Dietary Guidelines The battle over American dietary guidelines has been raging for decades. One of the most controversial issues in nutrition? Fat and sugar. For the past thirty years, we ve been instructed that a low fat, high carb diet is the best way to lose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle. In 1955, US President Dwight Eisenhower suffered a heart attack, and worked with his chief physician to encourage Americans to cut down on fat and cholesterol, stating that this would be the best way to avoid future heart disease. The first official government dietary guidelines were published in 1980, and they too advised Americans to limit fat and increase carbs. And though this diet surged in popularity (Remember the low fat craze in the 80s and 90s?), many are convinced it s actually the exact opposite of how we should be eating, and that sugar is biggest problem when it comes to weight gain and health problems. A recent article in The Guardian explores this controversy, and ventures to explain how we could have gotten so tangled up in this wild web of fat versus sugar. The article begins by introducing two important figures: Robert Lustig and John Yudkin. Lustig is something of a celebrity; his 90 minute talk titled Sugar: The Bitter Truth, has been viewed more than six million times on YouTube, and argues that fructose is the culprit behind a majority of American health problems. John Cousins, the director of The Food and Beverage Training Company in London, teamed up with two other experts in hospitality management and interviewed many acclaimed chefs to gauge their perception of MG. While all interviewees understood and embraced the original and straight forward intentions of Herve This, most agreed that the significant media coverage had sensationalized MG to a point where it could not redeemed (Cousins et al., 2010). Many chefs also did not see the value in MG; they argued that it was no different than food science and that they were already doing the research in their own kitchens. Commonly mistaken as a style of cooking, MG became a fad, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
