Essay On The Movie Crash
Crafting an essay on the movie "Crash" presents a unique set of challenges that require a delicate
balance of critical analysis, thematic exploration, and insightful commentary. The film, directed
by Paul Haggis, is known for its intricate narrative structure and its exploration of complex social
issues such as racism and prejudice.
One of the difficulties lies in deciphering the multifaceted characters and their interwoven
storylines. "Crash" introduces a diverse cast of characters, each grappling with their own biases
and struggles. Analyzing their interactions and understanding the underlying motivations
requires a keen eye for detail and a nuanced understanding of human behavior.
Moreover, the film doesn't offer easy answers or clear-cut resolutions. It delves into the messy,
uncomfortable aspects of societal tensions, forcing the writer to navigate the ambiguity and
moral gray areas presented in the narrative. Crafting an essay that captures the nuances of the
film's themes without oversimplifying its complexities demands a thoughtful and sophisticated
approach.
Furthermore, exploring the film's cinematography, symbolism, and soundtrack adds an additional
layer of complexity. Discussing how the director uses visual and auditory elements to convey the
underlying themes requires a deep understanding of film analysis and the ability to articulate
these nuances effectively.
Addressing the societal implications of "Crash" also poses a challenge. Tackling topics like
racism, discrimination, and social inequality demands sensitivity and a well-researched
understanding of these issues. It requires the writer to engage with the broader cultural context
and offer meaningful insights into the relevance of the film's message.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the movie "Crash" is a demanding task that necessitates a
thorough understanding of the film's intricate narrative, character dynamics, thematic depth, and
social commentary. Successfully navigating these challenges requires a combination of critical
thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.

Recent economic policy has essentially relied on three approaches: a huge boost in
government spending, which was supposed to create new jobs; a tax on the
wealthy, which was supposed to address the growing inequality; and a reliance on
the Federal Reserve zero interest rate policy, which hasn t increased median family
income but instead fueled a record stock market and significantly added to the
wealth of the already wealthy, who have significant stock holdings and whose
incomes are less reliant on wage levels than are the incomes of middle and working
class people (Patrick, 2016).
Transition: The value of minimum wage is decreasing every year which is making
harder than ever to support a family or even oneself. ii. According to the FACT
SHEET: The economic case for increasing the minimum wage: State by state
impact written in 2014, In 2014 alone, the minimum wage is projected to lose 1.7
percent of its value. For a full time worker, that represents nearly $250, enough to
pay for a month of groceries or a month of utilities ( Fact Sheet , 2014).
Transition: Federal policy is causing a decline of income value among lower class
Americans when necessity are increasing such as education and health
The People Believe About Rastafarians
Despite what many people believe about Rastafarians, there are many
misunderstandings. Many are set on calling any person that has dreadlocks, or
anyone who lives away from the Rasta society. Reggae musicians, weed smokers
and Jamaican lingo talkers are in the make beliefs of the Rastafarians. Clearly those
exterior references only create a more confusing understanding of Rastafarians. For
anyone to call themselves Rasta, one must know everything about their culture.
Unlike other religions where all one has to do is accept whatever that religion says
without study, one must study the doctrine, the diet, the laws and the strict codes that
obey to the Rasta faith. It is seen as a way of life rather than just another religion.

Garvey s dream of a return to Africa became the Rastafarian dream as well, and
some Rastafarians have indeed settled in Ethiopia, Ghana, and Zaire. One of the
early impacts who paved the way for the rise of this cult was Marcus Garvey.
Garvey lived in New York City, and believed that the black man would never
receive fair treatment in a white man s world. He then organized a back to Africa
movement that attracted thousands. Which were followers among the poor
blacks of certain large city urban areas. Garvey was convicted of mail fraud, and
spent time in prison. When he finally returned to his native Jamaica in 1927,
Garvey allegedly prophesied that a black king would be crowned in Africa. He
also stated through that monarch freedom for dark skin people would be realized
eventually. Garvey himself never joined the succeeding religious movement that
became known as Rastafarianism. Garvey was even critical of Haile Selassie for
leaving Ethiopia during the time of the Italian Fascist occupation. Entirely too
many people are caught up on the concept of whether Tafari Makonnen, also known
as His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, was Christ, and whether he was or was not
the returning Messiah in the flesh. To many people, it is necessary to belittle King

William Berkeley In The 1676 Analysis
In the 1670s, dissent from small farmers and frontiersmen marred the leadership of
William Berkeley. Reasons, such as restrictions on the right to vote, high taxes, low
tobacco prices, aristocratic leadership, and inadequate security against Native
American attacks caused the dissent. Nathanial Bacon, a relative of William Berkeley,
relocated from England in 1673 and became part of the administration in Virginia.
Over time, the two disagreed on the issue of Indians (Rice, 2012). It was at this point
that emigrants of English descent were conquering land through force.
Some leaders in the Virginia governorship administration opposed this idea by
preferring negotiations. In 1676, a civil war erupted because of disagreement among
the colonists. Nathanial Bacon emerged as a leader of the people who lived on the
frontier to protect them from attacks by Native Americans. It was evident that
Nathanial Bacon was fighting the colonial government by urging poor farmers to
express dissent by fighting the Native Americans and colonial government (Rice,
2012). Consequently, the victims of the 1676 rebellion included the Pamunkey and
the Occoneechee tribes.
Following the discovery that Bacon was anti government, he was removed from his ...

However, William Berkeley was focused on establishing peace with the Native
Indians. The rebellion grew whereby African Americans joined the frontiersmen
demanding better treatment from the colonial government. The colonial government
soldiers became vigilant by suppressing Bacon s forces; hence, restoring the colonial
rule in the Virginian colony. The unification of poor farmers and African Americans
was seen as a potential threat to the colonial government. As a result, the colonial
government implemented measures to toughen racial labor for purposes of
preventing any further resistance (Rice,
Myasthenia Gravis
Your arms are too weak to pick up the remote control, your eyelids too droopy to
watch your favorite show, your jaw too weak to chew and enjoy your meal. Episodes
like these are all too familiar to individuals suffering from Myasthenia Gravis, a rare
debilitating chronic autoimmune disease. This disease can affect people of all ages
and like all autoimmune diseases, sufferers of Myasthenia Gravis have immune
systems that attack the body, in this case, targeting an important neurotransmitter
known as acetylcholine. This prevents acetylcholine from binding with the
acetylcholine nicotinic receptor thereby preventing the muscle from carrying out the
signal and contracting. The nature of this disease sometimes makes it difficult to

Because Myasthenia Gravis is such a rare disease, it makes it difficult for medical
professionals to diagnose it, often leading to misdiagnoses. The first reported case
of the what is now recognized as Myasthenia Gravis was documented in 1664 of
Native American Chief Opechancanough whose mystery illness caused the
excessive fatigue he encountered to wreck his constitution...his sinews lost their
tone and elasticity; and his eyelids were so heavy that he could not see unless they
were lifted up by his attendants... he was unable to walk... It is believed that the
mystery illness afflicting the chief was most likely Myasthenia Gravis due to the
hallmark symptoms of fatigue, bulbar ocular weakness as well as overall muscular
weakness in the arms and legs. Because the facial muscles are also affected, other
symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis include muffled speech, difficulty swallowing
chewing, and diplopia (double vision). In approximately 85% of MG patients, the
disease becomes generalized and within 3 years, the limbs, axial muscular groups

Analyse the Argument of the Existence of God from...
i) Analyse the Argument for the Existence of God from Religious Experience (18)
The argument for the existence of God from Religious Experience is a simple one,
with only two premises. The first being that some people have, or have had a
religious experience, the second premise is that these are only explicable though God,
thus leading to the conclusion that God exists. This leads us to question, what exactly
are religious experiences?
Theologians have struggled for centuries trying to define what a religious experience
is, with many believing a religious experience to be a sort of revelation, meaning that
God reveals some part of hi nature to the experient. St Thomas Aquinas believed that
to be his Revealed Theology , where truths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Swinburne s third type is a strong feeling, a conviction that they were experiencing,
even though there is no phenomena surrounding the experience. The penultimate type
is witnessing a perfectly normal experience, such as the Grand Canyon, which creates
a numinous experience. The final type of experience is in perceiving a very unusual
public object, like a miracle, for instance, the resurrection.
To help identify a religious experience, William James put forward four
characteristics of a typical experience. The first being passivity: how in control the
experient is; as whilst you undergo a religious experience, you take on an
alternative personality outside of your own, surrendering your own control to God.
The second quality is ineffability, where the experient can t quite put the occurrence
into words. Another characteristic of a religious experience is the Noetic Quality
of said experience. This quality is the knowledge that is gained in a religious
experience, knowledge that cannot be gained in a conventional manner, and tells
you something that you otherwise wouldn t know. The final quality is transciency,
where the time the experience takes doesn t dictate the significance of the
experience, as time is altered or distorted in some way, just as in a dream the dream
may seem really long, whereas in reality it s only been a few minutes

best cleats in the world. But is it true? The Mercurial Vapor X are truly fascinating
and probably are way better than the Vapor 9. Nike packed them with innovative
technologies that offer great comfort and touch on the ball, something that is not
usually associated with the Vapor range. The Vapor X s fit and feel is the number
one thing people talk about when they hear the new Vapor X. Between the Vapor 9

the Superfly and Hypervenom, the Vapor X now features split toe technology that
allows the forefoot to move more freely from side to side, helping with stability
and changes of direction. Also Nike has added Compressed Nylon, essentially a
more flexible and thinner variation of the Glass Nylon soleplate found on the
Hypervenom Phantom and doesn t give you the feeling of slipping. The Nike
Mercurial X has an astonishing great upper. Another brilliant microfiber upper
material has been introduced on the Vapor X that has all the softness and comfort
of a Hypervenom upper at a fraction of the thickness and weight. Also the lightness
is incredible too. The Vapor 9 weighs about 6.9 ounces but the Vapor 10 only
weighs 6.3 ounces. All this has to do with the soulplate. Which makes the Vapor X
a very comfortable cleat. In the end, the people who said the Vapor 10 is the best,
they have said the truth. But also depends in how you like the feeling when you
wear cleats. The Mercurial Vapor 10 is just so comfortable that just by itself is
better than any other cleat in the market. Also the Nike Mercurial Vapor 10 is a
definite improvement over its predecessor. Finally for my final thought is that, the

What Caused The Red Scare Essay
American history can generally be vast and complex, but can be broken down into
moments and time periods that are divided, unified, and have changed the United
States into the country it is today. Unfortunately, some of American history is filled
with mistakes that are made by previous countrymen. The Red Scare was a period
in which several hundred immigrants were rounded up of poorly made, radical
political views, of the federal government in the years of 1917 1920, following the
Bolshevik Russian Revolution in the year of 1917 and all of the events and impact
of World War 1 in America. This scare was caused by fears of subversion by
communists in the United States ( The First Red Scare). There were a lot of causes
that caused The Red Scare. The events in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Extraordinary Confinement In Prisons
Some may argue that consecutive 6 month solitary confinement sentences is
allowable if the sentences are for separate charges or the inmate consistently poses a
threat to the prison staff and other inmates. However, extensive solitary confinement
often causes serious psychological harm to the inmates. Therefore, spending a full
year in solitary confinement should be considered cruel and unusual. In the late 1700
s, the Quakers built the Walnut Street Jail, and later, the Eastern State Penitentiary,
both of which operated with solitary confinement of the prisoners to focus on
penitence. This often drove prisoners mad and made them unfit to be released into
society. Reformers have since changed prisonpractices to allow inmates to socialize,

that the child had a life threatening disease, Wal mart paid for expenses that the
family alone would not have been able to afford. Even with the commercials like
this, it seems like nobody likes to focus on the positive aspects.
My view of this firm has not changed. Wal mart has positive and negative sides,
yes, but they do what they need to do to stay on top. I am here for an education in
business, and I hope to someday work for or own a successful business. I think that
every business has ethical issues; whether it is where the products are manufacture,
how much employees are paid or how much the business gives back to the
community. All I know is that if I were at top, I would be happy. To be a business
you have to be competitive or you get nowhere, Wal mart does have very competitive
prices, and that is why they are such a success.
Although I do not have as much experience with Target, I have pretty much the same
opinion; good prices and good quality equals a good store. I think that Wal Mart and
Target compete with each other in many aspects of their businesses; and competition
is what keeps them in good standings in the business world. I think that

The modern French style is known for its bright and brilliant sound as well as its

Steps To Take To Protect Your Transmission In The Summer
In order to make sure that your vehicle can handle all of the conditions listed above,
you need to make sure that the fluid is clean and full.
You can do this by opening the hood of your vehicle and finding the cap to your
transmission. Make sure you only open it when your vehicle is cool; the liquid
inside your transmission can get very hot and could burn you if you open the cap
when your engine is still hot.
Look at the fill line and see if your transmission needs more fluid. Pull out the
dipstick and examine the fluid. It should be a clear pinkish red color and it should
not have any debris in it nor should it really have an odor. If is is a different color,
has debris in the fluids, or smells funky, you need to take your vehicle in and have
your transmission flushed.
If the fluid looks alright, but the levels are a little low, all you need to do is top off
your transmission fluid. You can purchase the appropriate transmission fluid and a
funnel at a local auto parts store; just provide them with the make and model of your
vehicle and they will find the correct transmission fluid for
Essay about Joan Of Arc
Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc, first known as Jeanne d Arc, was born in the village of Domremy, in
the Champagne district of northeastern France. She was born on January 6, 1412
and died May 30,1431 at the age of 19. Joan is a French national heroin and a saint
of the Roman Catholic Church. She rescued France from defeat during the Hundred
Years War against England. In honor of her victory she is often called the Maid of
Orleans. This is a story of her life.
Joan was not a well educated woman. She had never learned to read or write but was
skilled in sewing and spinning. Her deeply religious mother and father, Isabelle and

In April of 1429 Joan and her army set out to rescue Orleans from English control. At
first the French commanders hesitated to obey her orders but eventually listened to
her. Ten days after she arrived in Orleans, April 28 May 8, Joan s forces broke the

Charles to receive a proper ceremony to crown him as king, this is called

The Green Computing research project is well underway and we have to select a
research tool that will help with quality control. The choices are Cause and effect
diagrams, control charts, Run charts, scatter diagrams, histograms, Pareto charts
and flow charts. I am a huge fan of statistical analysis however; it is not one of the
seven tools we have to work with. Therefore, I have chosen the Pareto Chart method
to help with our quality control. A Pareto Chart will allow us to look at energy
consumption over a period of time and break it down to what was the major factor
leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the processes are categorized, then they can be prioritized. This is where the
whole leadership team gets involved, to include the stakeholders. Then these
prioritized categories can be made into a hierarchical structure with substance and
value. This Pareto analysis chart is rather easy to produce in Microsoft Excel,
which is a good thing because I am fairly competent with the process using MS
Excel. We simply put in a table the consumption values during the determined period
of study and then turn it into a chart and you have a visual of the consumption
periods. We can then find the highest consumption periods and compare them to any
changes or patterns differences from the lower periods. Then these values can be re
charted in another analysis chart to visually compare the major causes of energy
consumption. In conclusion, the Pareto analysis will allow us to identify the major
energy consumption issues or the major energy conservation savings factors and
allow us to prioritize them in a hierarchical manner. Then the decision making
process can begin to work to reduce the overall costs and save energy at the same
time.

My Definition Essay
The best part about being a human being is our ability to look into ourselves, and
see both the good and the bad. Sometimes we might see traits that we love about
ourselves, and other times we might only see things we hate, but we should be able
to see that all of it is good. This good comes from God making us in God s image; by
doing this God gives us inherent dignity, and value. And just as Bonaventure says
we can use our internal reflections like a mirror to see God. This idea really struck
me while I was reading, there is no way am I a mirror to see God. There s no way
you can see God through a blonde haired, blue eyed, 18 year old, privileged white

In this text Francis describes again that we are made in God s image and likeness,
but because of this we can t take undue credit for our talents and gifts, because after
all they re not ours to take credit for they re God s. Therefore it s not a bad
reflection on myself to enjoy my witty humor; in fact it s a form of praising God.
To praise God I have to appreciate that first my wittiness helps to bring out more of
my outgoing nature. Because when I first meet someone again it might be an
awkward situation, but by making a joke I m able to alleviate some of that tension,
and get the ball rolling on our hopeful friendship. Secondly, I have to take my wit
for what it is, and as one of God s gifts to me I have an obligation to try and
alleviate the suffering of others by making them laugh. Obviously this isn t always
going to happen. But, I also feel like my wit helps me to see if I could be friends with
a person, for example if I don t make someone laugh with a joke that I find hilarious,
maybe its better for me to put my effort into a friendship else
Electroconvulsive Therapy
An emerging area of experimental research in MDD treatment relates to the use of
electromagnetic devices and stimulators in a therapeutic context. The approach builds
on historical treatment methods like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which though
exceptionally effective in the short term, often sees a return of depressive symptoms.
Compounding the problem with ECT was the increased tolerance some patients
showed, thus requiring higher and higher voltage dosages to achieve the same results,
not unlike drug tolerance, and side effects like generalized mental confusion in the
immediate aftermath of the therapy. As Ren et al. (21014) describe in
electromagnetic treatments have advanced considerably since their inception and

Battle Of Great Britain Essay
War is horrible, but slavery is worse, and you may be sure that the British people
would rather go down fighting than live in servitude. вЃ· By July 10th, 1940,
Germany had overrun Europe using Blitzkrieg method and then declared war on
Great Britain. This war was the first military campaign in history to be fought
entirely in the air. Conquering all the odds, the Royal Air Forcestood alone and
defeated the German Luftwaffe. Even when facing certain defeat, Britain prevailed.
The leadership of Great Britain, radar, and the Royal Air Force without a doubt were
the three most crucial reasons into why Britain prevailed.
The leadership of Great Britain played an important role to Britain s success during
the Battle of Britain. Winston Churchill and Lord Beaverbrook were two of the most
important people to thank when it comes to Great Britain s success. Winston
Churchill had a defiant attitude and stirring speeches that inspired the nation at a time

Radar played a big role in the Dowding system as well. It allowed the RAF to
respond as fast as possible to the incoming german attacks and use the resources of
pilots and aircrafts to their full potential. Radar also gave the Royal Air Force early
warning signs on German attacks or raids. It gave the fighters valuable time to
prepare for German attacks and made sure they were not caught alone and
defenceless. Another benefit of the radar was that the RAF had more than fifty radars
stations in the south of Britain under their possession, which gave them an edge over
Germany throughout the battle. Overall, radar was very effective and it helped Great
Britain have an edge over Germany throughout the entire

Uniform Accelerated Motion Down an Inclined Plane

Physics 130: Introduction to Physics
11 September 2015
Introduction: In physics, it is thought that when objects are placed under a pattern
of uniform acceleration they will obey, v_f^2=v_i+at, or the equation of motion,
according to the lab manual. Each of these variables has a direct meaning to the
uniformed acceleration, where, v_f^2 is final speed, v_i is initial speed, a is
acceleration, and t is time. According to the lab manual, time (t) can be switched
with distance traveled (x) to be given the equation, v_f^2=v_i+ax. Once final speed,
initial speed, and distance traveled are found, the above equation can be used to

If We Must Die By Claude Mckay
The poem If We Must Die by Claude McKay is not only a sonnet, but also a story
that portrays so much more than what first meets the eye. The poem is discussing
a group of people who are going off to battle. The narrator of the poem is preparing
the group to die, but implying that they must die with honor and in a noble way.
The group has been pressed into a corner and there is no way out without a fight
and warns them that death is most likely in their future. This poem sheds light into
the author McKay s history and the importance of the time in which he wrote the
poem. This poem uses a group of men s final battle to discuss how one handles his
last choice in life, and how he will be remembered.
Claude McKay was born in Jamaica, he emerged as a successful poet in the 1920 s
and took part in the Harlem Renaissance. This was a cultural movement for African
American musicians, artists, scholars, and poets. The cultural movement McKay
was apart of would suggest that he knows exactly how it feels to be at battle, and
to feel like you can t win. The Harlem Renaissance was a period of rebirth for the
artists like McKay and their voices were finally heard as significant contributors to
the intellectual community. The movement finally gave them a chance to be
remembered and to carve out a legacy for themselves. The people who are after the
soldiers in McKay s poem, are trying to defeat everything that they stand for, but the
narrator argues that if they have nothing else to live
Oaths Euphemisms
A euphemism is the substitution of an agreeable or less offensive expression in place
of one that may offend or suggest something unpleasant to the listener;[1] or in the
case of doublespeak, to make it less troublesome for the speaker.[citation needed] It
also may be a substitution of a description of something or someone rather than the
name, to avoid revealing secret, holy, or sacred names to the uninitiated, or to obscure
the identity of the subject of a conversation from potential eavesdroppers. Some
euphemisms are intended to be funny.

The common names of illicit drugs, and the plants used to obtain them, often
undergo a process similar to taboo deformation, because new terms are devised in
order to discuss them secretly in the presence of others. This process often occurs in
English (e.g. speed or crank for meth). It occurs even more in Spanish, e.g. the
deformation of names for cannabis: mota (lit., something which moves on the black
market), replacing grifa (lit., something coarse to the touch ), replacing marihuana (a
female personal name, MarГa Juana), replacing caГ±amo (the original Spanish name
for the plant, derived from the Latin genus name Cannabis). All four of these names
are still used in various parts of the Hispanophone world, although caГ±amo ironically
has the least underworld connotation, and is often used to describe industrial hemp,
or legitimate medically prescribed cannabis.
[edit] The Euphemism Treadmill
Euphemisms often evolve over time into taboo words themselves, through a process
described by W.V.O. Quine, and more recently dubbed the euphemism treadmill by
Steven Pinker. (cf. Gresham s Law in economics). This is the well known linguistic
process known as pejoration.
Words originally intended as euphemisms may lose their euphemistic value, acquiring
the negative connotations of

Self GovernmentThe guideline where the people are the definitive wellspring of
overseeing power and choices are made focused around majority rules guidelines. For

have a voice and that voice is heard through voting (Patterson, 2013).
Division of PowersThe rule utilized for the portion of power among the legislative,
executive, and the judicial branches that diagram the obligations of every branch.
For example each branch is responsible for their part of decision making. This is
important because it prevents abuse of power and freedom for all (Patterson, 2013).
Checks and BalancesAn arrangement of the government used to save an offset of

In the United States, the national government utilizes a framework called governing

legislative, executive and judicial. Each one extension has controls that it can use to

Step Back For A Minute
Step Back For A Minute
No, this is not a scary movie, so you don t have to step back to survive. Learning
how to step back for a minute and look at thing from a vantage point can have its
benefits. Looking at yourself from an outside point of view will help make sure
things are done right. You need to evaluate and re evaluate your plans of actions to
see if they are working. If you are finding yourself repeating something over and
over again and making mistakes while doing it, then you need to change your
approach. When we re keenly focused on something (which a good thing), it can get
our minds so caught up that forget what the heck we re doing. To avoid this, be
mindful of what s taking place and determine what needs to be changed.
Push It To The Limit

power forward and using it to accomplish amazing feats. Just imagine if you had
the car, house, business, and everything else of your dreams just by using your
mind power. Mulimillionaires and billionaires understand this power and use it on

desirable results and even offer advice on how you can do it. Pick up a few of their
books, read them and become successful in life. Pushing

The Democratic Accountability Of The European Union
Essay
In this assignment I will be assessing the democratic accountability of the European
Union. I will begin by briefly describing the institutions, their functions,
compositions and discuss how they work as check and balance system to ensure
democratic accountability further to look on to how laws are made and what they
are In order to establish whether or not the EU is in fact answerable to its citizens.
The 4 main institutions in the EU are; The EU parliament, the Council of Ministers,
the European council and the Commission.
The Commission is an independent body. Its powers are found in Article 17 on the
Treaty on the European Union. Each member state has 1 commissioner; this was a
consequence of the Lisbon Treaty.
The president of the commission allocates each commissioner with a portfolio that
oversees areas such as fisheries, environment, and trade. General Commissioners are
suggested by member states and elected by president elect from the Council and
parliament. Commission president is nominated by qualified majority vote of the
European council, and is then elected by the European Parliament by majority vote if
this candidate doesn t get the required amount of majority votes the council will
propose another within four weeks.
It could be argued that there is too much discretion in the powers of the president in
that he/she can literally decide which commissioner gets which portfolio this could be
out of personal preference.
The Commission is sometimes referred to
Adult Correctional System
The Adult Correctional system in the United States is growing at an alarming rate
due to the increase in recidivism among adults. How do we combat the problem? The
answer is quite simple. We start at the very beginning when the adults are involved in
the Juvenile Justice System, under the age of eighteen. Juvenile delinquencyis an
ongoing issue within the United States that presents a challenge, not only to the
respective court, but to the correctional system. It is often thought that the Juvenile
System is separate from the criminal justicesystem due to the age of the youth.
However, a lot of the same laws apply in Juvenile Court. A delinquent can be
adjudicated with an offense and given a determinate or indeterminate sentence should
the court feel that the youth should enter into the legal custody of the respective
State. There is a strong correlation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You may ask, why would Tennessee offer such a diverse system? Through lots of
research, Tennessee found that there is a direct correlation between early child
neglect exposure and the overall risk of delinquency. Ryan, Williams, and
Courtney (2013) stipulated that identifying youth with an active child welfare
case is critical for the justice systems as they seek to understand and address
specific family dynamics that may directly interfere with efforts to interrupt
offending behaviors. Family context and parent child relationships are critical
because they serve as a foundation for the provision of quality care (Ryan,
Williams, Courtney, 2013, p. 462). This is not to say that all neglected youth can
have a free pass to making poor choices. What the research tells us is that we need
to provide a family focused approach rather than a punitive one. This is due to the
fact being punitive in nature, has not bode well for society. A change is greatly
Essay An Analysis of The Harlot s House
An Analysis of The Harlot s House
Oscar Wilde s The Harlot s House was written in 1881, towards the latter part of the
Victorian era. This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this
piece is from the narrator s perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further
distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in, then out again.
The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the
harlot s house (Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde
transitions to the inside of the house depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside,
above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the figures inside are projected onto the

The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an
insinuation that these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3).
The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed
by the music and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house
of Lust (10.3). Another reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot
herself. I find that harder to fathom, but rather the story of the narrator s love wooed
by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable. The narrator s condemnation of
this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a time ruled by
propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a
wanton, rule free lifestyle though.
This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage
and fatherhood but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then
said to have become enamoured of a book known as the bible of decadence (p.
2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to enter the harlot s house, so to speak.
His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as Wilde being summoned
to the underground (p. 2067).
Wilde later fell in love with a young man, Lord Alfred Douglas, who unfortunately
for Wilde, had a father that disapproved of the relationship (p.

what has formed this ideal body. Also, the research conducted uncovered that the

After this statistic was proven, various amounts of examinations were performed
to discover the ideal body type in juveniles. The various investigations influenced a
woman named Renee Hobbs and her research team to create a website called My
Pop Studio , where people online can create their own celebrity images based on
physical characteristics. Soon enough, the results were revealed, and it proved
that the majority of girls who went on My Pop Studio created themselves to look
tall, very thin, and blonde (Heuback). These results infer that being tall, thin, and
blonde is the ideal image young girls desire to have. In summary, the examinations
that were managed proved that young girls are dissatisfied with their body, and
would change their appearance if they had the chance. Also, traditional types of
media such as magazines, TV shows, and commercials affect the perception of
body image. Furthermore, a recent study revealed adolescent females who watch
reality TV more than the average person start to care more about their appearance (

popular kid s channels such as Disney Channel or Nickelodeon. A review analyzed

for allegedly slimming their iconic characters ; Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck (Culp

Corporate Social Responsibility Essay
INTRODUCTION:
To sustain the present natural resources for the future generations to come was
considered to be the social responsibility for each and every human being on this
planet, therefore sustainability, accountability and transparency of resources became
the basic ingredients for social responsibility.
Only in 1953, Bowen raised a question What responsibility to the Society can
business people be reasonably expected to assure that evaluated the term Corporate
Social Responsibility abbreviated as CSR.
The CSR in 1966 was then defined as: Social responsibility, therefore, refers to a
person s obligation to consider the effects of his decisions and actions on the whole
social system. Businessmen apply social responsibility when they consider the needs
and interest of others who may be affected by business actions. In so doing, they look
beyond their firm s narrow economic and technical interests by Keith Davis and
Robert Blomstrom.
Even the European Commission explained CSR as By stating their social
responsibility and voluntarily taking on commitments which go beyond common
regulatory and conventional requirements, which they would have to respect in any
case, companies endeavour to raise the standards of social development,
environmental protection and respect of fundamental rights and embrace an open

Mc Escher Tessellation Essay
A tessellation is a pattern put together by identical shapes that fit together perfectly
with no gaps or overlaps. M.C. Escher is the man who created the idea of
tessellations, who is a Dutch graphic design artist. He had a very tough early life
since he suffered from very common skin infections, which in turn caused him to
do very poor in his core curriculum. Although he was very bad in his main subjects,
he excelled in his music and art classes. As an artist, M.C. Escher began by
drawing landscapes primarily of nature. After a few years of this, he decided to go
in a different variety of art by using the dimensional planes to his advantage to
create illusions and trick the eye. He would sketch landscapes of Italy from very
unique perspectives that alter reality, later he would sketch artwork from his mind

such as many circles, squares and triangles, but the main geometric figures used to
create this tessellation are thousands of dots and lines. This drawing is a mezzotint
which is made by hatching, layering lines and dots. The mathematics behind this

mathematics of the geometry of space and planes. In this tessellation, it is evident
how the planes change as the lizards go into the tessellation and leave. Lizards would

Overtime And Fatigue
In today s society, overtime is the primary method that healthcare facilities are using
to keep up with the high demand of staffing. Many employers mandate that healthcare
workers work extra shifts and they threaten them with dismissal for insubordination,
even to the point of reporting them to the state board of nursing for job abandonment.
Bae (2013) stated that working overtime is closely associated with the fatigue and
sleep deprivation in nurses. Sleep deprivation causes fatigue. Fatigue is linked to
difficulties in behavioral functioning. It slows reaction time. Overtime can cause
injury to nurses.
Overtime is hours worked by an employee beyond a regularly fixed shift. It is
determined by what the usual length of a shift is for an employee. ... Show more

They can depreciate the mettle of providers, causing a job burnout. That will reduce
their retention and make more openings, which forces the rest of the workers to
work more overtime. Therefore, mandated overtime consequently worsens the
shortage of staff and contributes to worker dissatisfaction. Some people, when they
are tired, cannot concentrate on having normal conversations. They can get
frustrated with their coworkers and patients, which causes poor communication.
Healthcare workers that work overtime usually get less sleep and are more
vulnerable to diseases and an imbalance of work and family. Providers experiencing
fatigue can experience a decrease in energy and attention, slower reaction times, and
are more likely to make medical errors. Nayab (2011) stated that the U.S. Department
of Health and Human services reported that 16 out of the 22 major studies addressing
general health effects associate overtime with poorer perceived general health,
increased injury rates, more illnesses, and increased mortality (para.

Abstract
With the great speed of economic globalization, E Business is developing in a
surprising speed through the wide spread of information technology. Nowadays,
there are a lot of big E business corporations such as Amazon, E bay focus on
different E business model and field. However when these international companies
carving up the global market, some local enterprises also growing up and want to
share this big cake.

Taobao s Success 5 problem was solved by eBay Each, but without doubt, eBay Each
lost its advantage in credit transaction.
Third, eBay Each used advertisement blocking tactics to fight Taobao. In 2003, the
biggest three portal in China (Sohu, Sina, 163) made a deal with e Bay that they
would never use Taobao s advertisement. To fix this problem, Taobao use a lot of
traditional medium such as newspaper, TV or subway stops, bus, road advertising.
Moreover, Taobao also made a co operation with Yahoo, using Yahoo s search bid,
investing 2 million keywords. Then Taobao increased the keywords to 3 million, and
the hits up to 6million in one day. That made Taobao beyond its opponent in two key
indicators, accounting for the initiative in future competition. Furthermore, another
difference in Taobao s advertisements, their membership in the trading process could
feel lively culture of family. Fourth, eBay Each and Taobao had a significant
understianding gap in market positioning. EBay Each have their global strategy and
want to do business with the people who are 30 40years old. While Taobao s
strategy is localization, and its target population was also younger than its
counterpart. Last but not least, Taobao encouraged their buyer and seller makes
private transaction, and supported a convenient platform. One example is the
communication tool for members in a timely manner Live Messenger. If the user
enters a shop, just the owner is also
Chemical Weapons Convention ( Cwc )
Chemical Weapons Convention
By: Jamie Dainty
John Sununu once said and I quote, When we re talking about technology that
involves weapons of mass destruction, nuclear, chemical or biological weapons, there
has to be an element of preemption . Chemical weapons are being fought by chemical
weapons convention (CWC), but what is CWC? When some people hear chemical
weapons convention they might get the wrong idea in their head. They might think of
something more along the lines of a gathering where they would show their latest
models of their chemical weapon products. But in this case that s not exactly what it
is. Chemical weapons convention is actually an arms control treaty which outlaws the

chemical weapon is to cause physical harm ranging from discomfort to death. (NTI)
The convention is made up of a preamble, twenty four articles and three annexes;
annexes on chemicals, the verification annex and the confidentiality. (Organisation
for the prohibition of chemical weapons) In 1925 after the world war one, the
Geneva Protocol prohibited chemical weapons in warfare (U.N.O.D.A.), which can
be viewed as the first step to the chemical weapons convention. Banning chemical
weapons due to the devastating outcomes of the usage of the weapons, devastating
outcomes such as deaths and mutations, have made the steps to take to chemical
weapons much easier. Yet the chemical weapons convention wasn t started until it
was signed in 1993 by president George H.W. Bush and ratified in 1997, which is
about sixty eight to seventy two years later. (The Reagan Vision) On March sixteenth
1988 a most notorious example of chemical weapons used occurred, when Saddam
Hussein unleashed a mixture of mustard gas and nerve agents on Kurdish civilians in
Halabja, Iraq. (Sounds chemical management) At least five thousand civilians
including women, children and elderly people immediately died, while at least ten
thousand were blinded or harmed. (Sounds chemical management) Henry Waxman

The History and Future of the Internet Essay
The History and Future of the Internet
Many believe the internet was an over night sensation, that one day, someone
invented the internet and it spread in popularity faster than Tickle Me Elmo or the
Macarena. Although the internet did have a surge of commercial popularity, with the
invention of Mosaic and later with e commerce, it was created many years ago with
the development of military networking technologies. Also, the internet, unlike many
pop culture fads of the nineties, will continue to see a growth in popularity and
usefulness as a form of media throughout the information age. Sure, the internet
became overambitious to the point where many internet start up companies lost their
businesses in the recession of the past few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mosaic, created by Marc Andreessen, is described as the killer application for the
internet. Because it was the first program to provide a slick multimedia graphical
user interface, people had a reason to logon and download their free version of this
monumental application. Mosaic soon turned into Netscape Navigator and the rest is
history (dictionary.com).
Through the internet was original used to support the development of the military
many years ago, it became a commercial commodity in the nineties and into the new
millennium. The internet grew and grew as an explosion of people logging on and
creating their own personal website. Companies could advertise their products,
people could freely send emails; there was no limit or bounds to its never ending
content. Competition between internet providers increased the speed of the internet
from dial up to DSL/Cable to Ethernet. However, despite an enormous increase in
availability and internet traffic in the early years of the new millennium, a decrease
in consumer confidence saw to the death of many start up companies. It was hard to
keep up with the expansion of the internet during its turbulent growth in the late
nineties. Many companies that started a retail or service business made a lot of
money in a short amount of time and then lost it all. This volatile market saw the
quick decline in the consumers loyalty in internet
My Goals And Steps For Yourself
Having learned that setting goals and steps for yourself is one of the best and
most efficient ways to reach your goals. A while ago, I decided to set my own
academic, career, and leadership goals. I came up with the best three steps that can
be taken to reach those goals. In addition, I analyzed my strengths that can best
assess me get those steps done. This helped boost my self esteem and motivated
me to reach my goals, because I proved to myself that I already have the strengths
needed to take specific steps that would get me closer to my goals. For my
academic goal, I wanted to earn a GPA of 3.80 or higher by the end of the semester.
The three steps I took to achieve this goal are important. First, I turned in all of my
assignments and studied well for any exams or quizzes. Second, I managed to
study for at least 2 hours for almost everyday of the week. This step not only helped
me get step 1 done, but it also increased my ability to learn more material. Third, I
met with professors about once a week for additional help over course material.
Those steps were very successful at helping me reach my academic goal. I was
able to stay on track with all of my classes, manage enough studying time to to
prepare well for exams and get assignments done on time. Outstandingly, my grades
did go up and are still on the increase. After getting great results, I will definitely
keep doing the steps I have done over the past few weeks to raise my grades even
more. Although all three
Social Rules For Dating
The social rules for dating have drastically changed over the years. In today s
society, dating has lost all of its meaning and has been overruled by the term hooking
up . Social media and texting have taken over the means of communicating face to
face and made our generation socially awkward. Since the arrival of new technologies
and the changing definitions of traditional dating, dating has become a more loosely
used term. According to The History of Dating , between the timeframe of 1900 and
1910 was the start of the dating era. As mentioned in the History of Dating, men
would address young women, who they were interested in, by stopping by their
house for a visit. The parents of the woman would oversee the couple s visitation and

How Did Henry II Improve The Legal System
During the initial years of Henry II s reign as king of England, he attempted to
restore the authority that had lapsed during the reign of King Stephen from 1141 to
1154. In order to do this, Henry II worked to limit the power of the nobles, for
example, by destroying adulterine castles. In addition, he standardised the legal
system, which meant that the nobility was reliant on him for justice and also became
more involved with financial matters, which helped to reinforce his control. However,
he also had some shortcomings, which affected his success such as the facts that he
spent such vast quantities of time on the continent and that he failed to prevent
uprisings. Henry II started to limit the power of the nobility from the very beginning

This group of legal officials who acted on the behalf of the king exerted royal
authority over the law, bringing it further under his control. Brand comments on
how Henry II restored the legal system, saying that he nationalised what had
previously been a broken and localised system. This demonstrates how as king,
Henry II extended royal authority successfully over the legal system, which
allowed him to restore his authority over the entire country as the legal system was
at the centre of justice. Henry II also standardised punishment in the Grand Assize
of Clarendon of 1166, which helped to limit the power of the nobles, as they could
no longer choose how their vassals were punished. Furthermore, it reasserted the
fact that the king was at the head of the legal hierarchy as with the Assize, it
showed that he was beginning to use his influence and power to restore the legal
system. As well as this, Henry II started to use royal writs more often. This meant
that all EVERYTHING was done with the king s authority and that the people were
reliant on Henry II for
Freedom Against Unreasonable Search and Seizure Essay
As said by the Fourth Amendment, the right of the people to be secure in their
persons, houses, papers, and effects, against an unreasonable search and seizures,
shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things be seized. In simplest terms the Fourth
Amendment says that all searches are to be conducted under authority of a warrant(
Barany). Many times this amendment is violated which can result in the dismissal
of a case, release of a guilty suspect, or the arrest of an innocent individual that was
not properly been given his or her rights. In this paper topics involving the violations

Now a police officer has the right to detain and search any an all individuals
without a warrant, just as long as she or he can justify a suspicion that the suspect
may be armed. Also anything that an officer feels during pat downs may be used
as probable cause for a complete and unwarranted search. Since the Terry vs. Ohio
case the stop and frisk power had now been extended to the power to frisk cars
(Cronin ,145 147). There are a few exceptions to the general rule against
warrantless search and seizure though., some of which I will review are : the plain
view exception, emergency situation exception, automobile exception, and the
border search exception. The plain view exception refers to the police using the five
senses: sight , hearing, smell, taste, and touch. By these means anything detected
does not have the Fourth Amendment protection if police officers are lawfully
present when they detect something (Berger). So in general, anything of evidence
nature of another crime that is immediately observed without search is seizurable.
For this the three pronged test is used: 1) a officer engaged in an activity of lawful
nature at the time; 2) the object (s) of incriminating character was , from the start,
apparent and my no means concealed; 3) the police or official had lawful access to
the object and was accidentally discovered (Dash, 15 16, 19). The second is the
emergency situation exception. This exception is
Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory
Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory and Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory are
two well known theories of personality development with various similarities and
differences. While Erikson was influenced by Freud s ideas, his theory differed in
a number of important ways and was ultimately created to be an improvement to
Freud s personality development theory (Friedman Schustack, 2012). Like Freud s
psychosexual theory, Erikson agreed that personality progresses in a sequence of
predetermined phases. However, unlike Freud s theory of psychosexual stages,
Erikson s theory describes the impact of social experience across the whole
lifespan (Hoare, 2005). According to Freud s psychosexual theory, personality
develops across 5 sexual stages while Erikson s develops among 8 social stages.
Freud s theory has fewer stages due to his belief that the last stage of identity
develops during adolescence, while Erikson s theory had more stages because he
believed an individual s identity continually evolved over their entire lifetime (Hoare,
2005). The 5 stages of Freud s theory: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency and Genital, will be
discussed, compared and contrasted with Erikson s 8 stages: Trust vs. Mistrust,
Autonomy vs. Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Identity vs. Role
Confusion, Intimacy vs. Isolation, Generativity vs. Stagnation, and Integrity vs.
Despair (Passer, Smith, Atkinson, Mitchell Muir, 2011). Each stage in Erikson s
theory involves a

Is the Federal Reserve Accountable for sub prime market economic disaster and its
sustainability in a post disaster U.S economy?
The most commonly known sub prime finance crisis came into illumination when a
sudden rise in home foreclosures in 2006 twirled seemingly out of control in 2007,
triggering a nationwide economic crisis that went worldwide within the year. The
greatest responsibility is pointed at the lenders who created such problems. It was
the lenders who, at the end of the day, lend finances to citizens with poor credit and a
high risk of failure to pay. When the Feds inundated the markets with growing capital

The sub prime crisis affected, not only to the US, but it s footpath across the world.
The economic financial system across the world experienced suffering very badly,
thereby leading the deteriorating of the economy. According to numerous
economists, the crisis of 2008 was the most severe economic contraction, despite the
fact that it is less than the Great Depression. To preserve financial policy steadiness,
Federal Reserve applied conservative financial policy stimulus thereby decreasing the
federal resources rate to almost zero and becoming the lender of the last resort . Fed
created this new loan program to improve the deteriorating financial system.
In this paper, we will be using the log log model. The log log model used for the
demand for wealth (attuned for inflation). We will be using the M1, as a display, for
demand on wealth and interest rate as the illuminating variable affecting the demand
for wealth. Using the regression, we will study the hypothesis. For this paper, the
hypothesis used will talk about the connection between money and the interest rate.
The null hypothesis, in this case, will be the interest affecting the demand for
money in the economy. The data that we will be reviewing is from October 2008 to
October 2011, 3 years worth of data. This connection will give us the basic
understanding of the performance of the monetary policy in US economy after the
crisis.

Analysis Of The Nothing That Is A Natural History Of
Zero...
The Nothing that is about Everything The Nothing That Is A Natural History of
Zero by Robert Kaplan is a book literally a book about the number zero and how it
was formed. He takes the reader on a journey through time and shows the
transformation of not just zero but numbers in general from multiple countries and
empires. Kaplan starts off his book by describing zero and what its possibilities are
in the world. Then he jumps into the Sumerians who were one of the first to create
a number system comprised of stick that had a triangle on the top. Slowly their
number system evolved but never had a zero. They started making place holders
for the larger numbers and assigning different sizes to the shapes in order to show a
larger amount. He then moves on to the Greeks who he credits the discovery of
zero. It is believed that the O came from the Greek word omicron which is the first
letter of ouden or nothing. Zero was not originally used to show the absences of
something but as a place holder or a space between other numbers. It was then used
by Greek astronomers as anything from minutes and seconds to degrees but still not
as zero today. It wasn t until 730 AD that the Greeks used an informal way to show
zero. They would count using their fingers and zero was a relaxed hand. The Greeks
even created a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

important figure is Donald Knuth who came up with exponents they were
originally pictured as 3 3. The more arrows placed in between the threes the more
exponents were stacked on each other. Later on Kaplan shows a property of zero, he
is setting quadratics equal to zero so they can be
The Color Red in American Beauty Essay
The Color Red in American Beauty
The beauty that addresses itself to the eyes is only the spell of the moment; the eye
of the body is not always that of the soul. George Sand hit the nail right on the head
when he said this in 1872. Appearance versus reality has been a central theme in
many American creative works including the film American Beauty. American
Beauty is a film that delves into your typical, middle class suburban American home
and slowly uncovers all of the abnormalities that lie within. The family is portrayed
as normal but as the films tag line suggests look closer then it is possible to fully
understand the implications that takes place in this seemingly happy home. The film

Another adaptation of the title is the beauty of a perfect American home much like
the Burnham s home appears to be. But all have flaws, the rose has thorns to prick,
Angela has her fear of being ordinary and the Burnham s home, well it too is cursed
with the reality that they are a dysfunctional family.
Red roses become not only a motif in the film; they come to represent symbols.
They are prevalent in almost every scene. They are in the garden; almost every
room in the house has a bouquet of brightly colored roses in a vase. They are the
centerpieces to the dining room table. This table becomes a motif in the film as
well, the family has its nightly dinner ritual and over the course of the movie we
see a delineation of the family at this table. Rose petals are the symbol of sex as
well, they are seen surrounding Angela for Lester, they burst out of her blouse, they
pop out of his mouth after he fantasizes of kissing her and they fall from the ceiling
onto his face when he pictures her above his bed. The front door to the house
becomes a motif as well, with constant references from neighbors about the house
with the red door. As if the door is a gateway to the oddities lurking inside the house.
Within the house Mendes restricted the colors to a monochromatic blue gray scheme

Realism In The Slynx
Depiction of the post historical time in the Tolstaya s novel represents a perfect
morally corrupt world in need of a saviour. This degraded setting echoes the failed
utopianism thinking of the early post Soviet period, as according to Agren: it [The
Slynx] is a reflection of the postmodern and late Soviet disbelief in the utopian idea of
state promoted progress as a grand narrative. Even though Agren argues that the anti
utopianism of the novel was inspired by the Soviet collapse, the Blast in The Slynx is
commonly associated with the Chernobyl catastrophe , which puts an end to the
Soviet fascination with the progress. Although the technological disaster or a Blast

Alternate Energy Automobiles Essays
Alternate Energy Automobiles
Of the world s approximately 650,000,000 motor vehicles, fewer than 1,500,000 are
not powered by either gasoline or diesel. (Bradley 24). This minority of the
vehicular population equates to a mere two thousandths of a percent of alternately
powered vehicles. Nearly all of these alternately powered vehicles are powered by
liquefied petroleum or compressed natural gas. The time to change that for the better
is here and we must push our way through the red tape created by automakers so we
can finally drive practical low emission cars. It is imperative that we begin driving

That is why I find it hard to believe that DiamlerChrysler, Ford, and Ballard have
spent close to $1 billion on fuel cells and plan to spend at least a billion more by
2004 to begin mass producing vehicles. (Fairley 55). All of this without being forced
upon by an environmental regulation or us. Ironically when both the chief executive
officer of GM and Ford retired they both decided to put their effort into electronic
vehicles (EVs).
The EV has a strange history which all started in the 1800s. The first invention that
contributed to the EV was the lead acid battery; the battery was constructed mainly
of lead, copper, and an acid. Back then people had no use for an EV which was
incredibly slow and wasn t rechargeable. However, a major step for fuel cells in the
1800s was by William Grove, [w]hile experimenting with electrolysis [breaking up
of water into gases] in 1839, Sir. William Grove discovered that the reverse was also
true. (Syndor, 57). Grove was accredited with the invention of fuel cells because of
this.
The most popular battery powered EV was offered by General Motors, and was on a
lease only basis for about the price of a BMW, or a Lexus. The new EVs are self
sustaining, so they don t need to be recharged like the battery powered vehicles.
Most of the new EVs are hybrid or fuel cell powered. Nearly all EVs can accelerate
Network Theory, Plot Analysis And With Shada s...
As we ve previously encountered social network analysis with some of our readings
like Franco Moretti s article, Network Theory, Plot Analysis and with Shada s
presentation last week, I m not going to go into too much detail about the basics of
social network analysis since I think that would be kind of redundant. My
presentation will focus mainly upon how social networkanalysis can be used in
literary studies to enrich our knowledge of subsets within the English discipline, and
even the discipline as a whole. So before I get into that, I ll provide a super quick
review of the most important parts of social network analysis. Social network analysis
started off as a technique in sociology, but has since expanded into other disciplines,
including, of course, literary studies, and the technique allows us to see relationships
among actors through visual displays of nodes and and ties. In their book Social
Network Analysis, David Knoke and Song Yang underline some fundamental
underlying assumptions about the importance of social network analysis, and state
that social networks affect perceptions, beliefs, and actions through a variety of
structural mechanisms that are socially contructed by relations among entities. Direst
contacts and more intensive interactions dispose entities to better information, greater
awareness, and higher susceptibility to influencing or being influenced by others.
Importantly, they also remind us that networks are not static structures, but are

Essay On The Movie Crash.pdf

  • 1. Essay On The Movie Crash Crafting an essay on the movie "Crash" presents a unique set of challenges that require a delicate balance of critical analysis, thematic exploration, and insightful commentary. The film, directed by Paul Haggis, is known for its intricate narrative structure and its exploration of complex social issues such as racism and prejudice. One of the difficulties lies in deciphering the multifaceted characters and their interwoven storylines. "Crash" introduces a diverse cast of characters, each grappling with their own biases and struggles. Analyzing their interactions and understanding the underlying motivations requires a keen eye for detail and a nuanced understanding of human behavior. Moreover, the film doesn't offer easy answers or clear-cut resolutions. It delves into the messy, uncomfortable aspects of societal tensions, forcing the writer to navigate the ambiguity and moral gray areas presented in the narrative. Crafting an essay that captures the nuances of the film's themes without oversimplifying its complexities demands a thoughtful and sophisticated approach. Furthermore, exploring the film's cinematography, symbolism, and soundtrack adds an additional layer of complexity. Discussing how the director uses visual and auditory elements to convey the underlying themes requires a deep understanding of film analysis and the ability to articulate these nuances effectively. Addressing the societal implications of "Crash" also poses a challenge. Tackling topics like racism, discrimination, and social inequality demands sensitivity and a well-researched understanding of these issues. It requires the writer to engage with the broader cultural context and offer meaningful insights into the relevance of the film's message. In conclusion, writing an essay on the movie "Crash" is a demanding task that necessitates a thorough understanding of the film's intricate narrative, character dynamics, thematic depth, and social commentary. Successfully navigating these challenges requires a combination of critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. Recent economic policy has essentially relied on three approaches: a huge boost in government spending, which was supposed to create new jobs; a tax on the wealthy, which was supposed to address the growing inequality; and a reliance on the Federal Reserve zero interest rate policy, which hasn t increased median family income but instead fueled a record stock market and significantly added to the wealth of the already wealthy, who have significant stock holdings and whose incomes are less reliant on wage levels than are the incomes of middle and working class people (Patrick, 2016). • 4. The People Believe About Rastafarians Despite what many people believe about Rastafarians, there are many misunderstandings. Many are set on calling any person that has dreadlocks, or anyone who lives away from the Rasta society. Reggae musicians, weed smokers and Jamaican lingo talkers are in the make beliefs of the Rastafarians. Clearly those exterior references only create a more confusing understanding of Rastafarians. For anyone to call themselves Rasta, one must know everything about their culture. Unlike other religions where all one has to do is accept whatever that religion says without study, one must study the doctrine, the diet, the laws and the strict codes that obey to the Rasta faith. It is seen as a way of life rather than just another religion. Since each... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Garvey s dream of a return to Africa became the Rastafarian dream as well, and some Rastafarians have indeed settled in Ethiopia, Ghana, and Zaire. One of the early impacts who paved the way for the rise of this cult was Marcus Garvey. Garvey lived in New York City, and believed that the black man would never receive fair treatment in a white man s world. He then organized a back to Africa movement that attracted thousands. Which were followers among the poor blacks of certain large city urban areas. Garvey was convicted of mail fraud, and spent time in prison. When he finally returned to his native Jamaica in 1927, Garvey allegedly prophesied that a black king would be crowned in Africa. He also stated through that monarch freedom for dark skin people would be realized eventually. Garvey himself never joined the succeeding religious movement that became known as Rastafarianism. Garvey was even critical of Haile Selassie for leaving Ethiopia during the time of the Italian Fascist occupation. Entirely too many people are caught up on the concept of whether Tafari Makonnen, also known as His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, was Christ, and whether he was or was not the returning Messiah in the flesh. To many people, it is necessary to belittle King Selessie s role and
  • 5. William Berkeley In The 1676 Analysis In the 1670s, dissent from small farmers and frontiersmen marred the leadership of William Berkeley. Reasons, such as restrictions on the right to vote, high taxes, low tobacco prices, aristocratic leadership, and inadequate security against Native American attacks caused the dissent. Nathanial Bacon, a relative of William Berkeley, relocated from England in 1673 and became part of the administration in Virginia. Over time, the two disagreed on the issue of Indians (Rice, 2012). It was at this point that emigrants of English descent were conquering land through force. Some leaders in the Virginia governorship administration opposed this idea by preferring negotiations. In 1676, a civil war erupted because of disagreement among the colonists. Nathanial Bacon emerged as a leader of the people who lived on the frontier to protect them from attacks by Native Americans. It was evident that Nathanial Bacon was fighting the colonial government by urging poor farmers to express dissent by fighting the Native Americans and colonial government (Rice, 2012). Consequently, the victims of the 1676 rebellion included the Pamunkey and the Occoneechee tribes. Following the discovery that Bacon was anti government, he was removed from his ... The rebellion grew whereby African Americans joined the frontiersmen demanding better treatment from the colonial government. The colonial government soldiers became vigilant by suppressing Bacon s forces; hence, restoring the colonial rule in the Virginian colony. The unification of poor farmers and African Americans was seen as a potential threat to the colonial government. As a result, the colonial government implemented measures to toughen racial labor for purposes of preventing any further resistance (Rice,

Episodes like these are all too familiar to individuals suffering from Myasthenia Gravis, a rare debilitating chronic autoimmune disease. This disease can affect people of all ages and like all autoimmune diseases, sufferers of Myasthenia Gravis have immune systems that attack the body, in this case, targeting an important neurotransmitter known as acetylcholine. This prevents acetylcholine from binding with the acetylcholine nicotinic receptor thereby preventing the muscle from carrying out the signal and contracting. The first reported case of the what is now recognized as Myasthenia Gravis was documented in 1664 of Native American Chief Opechancanough whose mystery illness caused the excessive fatigue he encountered to wreck his constitution...his sinews lost their tone and elasticity; and his eyelids were so heavy that he could not see unless they were lifted up by his attendants... he was unable to walk... It is believed that the mystery illness afflicting the chief was most likely Myasthenia Gravis due to the hallmark symptoms of fatigue, bulbar ocular weakness as well as overall muscular weakness in the arms and legs. Because the facial muscles are also affected, other symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis include muffled speech, difficulty swallowing chewing, and diplopia (double vision). • 7. Analyse the Argument of the Existence of God from... i) Analyse the Argument for the Existence of God from Religious Experience (18) The argument for the existence of God from Religious Experience is a simple one, with only two premises. The first being that some people have, or have had a religious experience, the second premise is that these are only explicable though God, thus leading to the conclusion that God exists. This leads us to question, what exactly are religious experiences? Theologians have struggled for centuries trying to define what a religious experience is, with many believing a religious experience to be a sort of revelation, meaning that God reveals some part of hi nature to the experient. St Thomas Aquinas believed that to be his Revealed Theology , where truths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Swinburne s third type is a strong feeling, a conviction that they were experiencing, even though there is no phenomena surrounding the experience. The penultimate type is witnessing a perfectly normal experience, such as the Grand Canyon, which creates a numinous experience. The final type of experience is in perceiving a very unusual public object, like a miracle, for instance, the resurrection. To help identify a religious experience, William James put forward four characteristics of a typical experience. The first being passivity: how in control the experient is; as whilst you undergo a religious experience, you take on an alternative personality outside of your own, surrendering your own control to God. The second quality is ineffability, where the experient can t quite put the occurrence into words. Another characteristic of a religious experience is the Noetic Quality of said experience. This quality is the knowledge that is gained in a religious experience, knowledge that cannot be gained in a conventional manner, and tells you something that you otherwise wouldn t know. The final quality is transciency, where the time the experience takes doesn t dictate the significance of the experience, as time is altered or distorted in some way, just as in a dream the dream may seem really long, whereas in reality it s only been a few minutes
  • 8. Vapor 9 Research Paper Great Choice? Fashion Review By:Adan CaballeroDate:Feb/16/2016 Lots of people are talking about the new Mercurial Vapor X and how it s supposedly the best cleats in the world. But is it true? The Mercurial Vapor X are truly fascinating and probably are way better than the Vapor 9. Nike packed them with innovative technologies that offer great comfort and touch on the ball, something that is not usually associated with the Vapor range. The Vapor X s fit and feel is the number one thing people talk about when they hear the new Vapor X. Between the Vapor 9 and Vapor 10 the the Vapor 10 has more thinner material which makes it more comfortable. Then the 9 has three different pieces and in the other hand the Vapor 10 has one piece... Like the Superfly and Hypervenom, the Vapor X now features split toe technology that allows the forefoot to move more freely from side to side, helping with stability and changes of direction. Also Nike has added Compressed Nylon, essentially a more flexible and thinner variation of the Glass Nylon soleplate found on the Hypervenom Phantom and doesn t give you the feeling of slipping. The Nike Mercurial X has an astonishing great upper. Another brilliant microfiber upper material has been introduced on the Vapor X that has all the softness and comfort of a Hypervenom upper at a fraction of the thickness and weight. Also the lightness is incredible too. The Vapor 9 weighs about 6.9 ounces but the Vapor 10 only weighs 6.3 ounces. All this has to do with the soulplate. Which makes the Vapor X a very comfortable cleat. In the end, the people who said the Vapor 10 is the best, they have said the truth. But also depends in how you like the feeling when you wear cleats. The Mercurial Vapor 10 is just so comfortable that just by itself is better than any other cleat in the market. Also the Nike Mercurial Vapor 10 is a definite improvement over its predecessor. Finally for my final thought is that, the vapor x is probably the best choice for any

What Caused The Red Scare Essay American history can generally be vast and complex, but can be broken down into moments and time periods that are divided, unified, and have changed the United States into the country it is today. Unfortunately, some of American history is filled with mistakes that are made by previous countrymen. The Red Scare was a period in which several hundred immigrants were rounded up of poorly made, radical political views, of the federal government in the years of 1917 1920, following the Bolshevik Russian Revolution in the year of 1917 and all of the events and impact of World War 1 in America. Extraordinary Confinement In Prisons Some may argue that consecutive 6 month solitary confinement sentences is allowable if the sentences are for separate charges or the inmate consistently poses a threat to the prison staff and other inmates. However, extensive solitary confinement often causes serious psychological harm to the inmates. Therefore, spending a full year in solitary confinement should be considered cruel and unusual. In the late 1700 s, the Quakers built the Walnut Street Jail, and later, the Eastern State Penitentiary, both of which operated with solitary confinement of the prisoners to focus on penitence. This often drove prisoners mad and made them unfit to be released into society. Reformers have since changed prisonpractices to allow inmates to socialize,

Once the processes are categorized, then they can be prioritized. This is where the whole leadership team gets involved, to include the stakeholders. Then these prioritized categories can be made into a hierarchical structure with substance and value. This Pareto analysis chart is rather easy to produce in Microsoft Excel, which is a good thing because I am fairly competent with the process using MS Excel. We simply put in a table the consumption values during the determined period of study and then turn it into a chart and you have a visual of the consumption periods. We can then find the highest consumption periods and compare them to any changes or patterns differences from the lower periods. Then these values can be re charted in another analysis chart to visually compare the major causes of energy consumption. In conclusion, the Pareto analysis will allow us to identify the major energy consumption issues or the major energy conservation savings factors and allow us to prioritize them in a hierarchical manner. Then the decision making process can begin to work to reduce the overall costs and save energy at the same time. The poem is discussing a group of people who are going off to battle. The narrator of the poem is preparing the group to die, but implying that they must die with honor and in a noble way. The group has been pressed into a corner and there is no way out without a fight and warns them that death is most likely in their future. This poem sheds light into the author McKay s history and the importance of the time in which he wrote the poem. This poem uses a group of men s final battle to discuss how one handles his last choice in life, and how he will be remembered. Claude McKay was born in Jamaica, he emerged as a successful poet in the 1920 s and took part in the Harlem Renaissance. This was a cultural movement for African American musicians, artists, scholars, and poets. The cultural movement McKay was apart of would suggest that he knows exactly how it feels to be at battle, and to feel like you can t win. The Harlem Renaissance was a period of rebirth for the artists like McKay and their voices were finally heard as significant contributors to the intellectual community. The movement finally gave them a chance to be remembered and to carve out a legacy for themselves. I will begin by briefly describing the institutions, their functions, compositions and discuss how they work as check and balance system to ensure democratic accountability further to look on to how laws are made and what they are In order to establish whether or not the EU is in fact answerable to its citizens. The 4 main institutions in the EU are; The EU parliament, the Council of Ministers, the European council and the Commission. The Commission is an independent body. Its powers are found in Article 17 on the Treaty on the European Union. Each member state has 1 commissioner; this was a consequence of the Lisbon Treaty. The president of the commission allocates each commissioner with a portfolio that oversees areas such as fisheries, environment, and trade. General Commissioners are suggested by member states and elected by president elect from the Council and parliament. Commission president is nominated by qualified majority vote of the European council, and is then elected by the European Parliament by majority vote if this candidate doesn t get the required amount of majority votes the council will propose another within four weeks. It could be argued that there is too much discretion in the powers of the president in that he/she can literally decide which commissioner gets which portfolio this could be out of personal preference. The answer is quite simple. We start at the very beginning when the adults are involved in the Juvenile Justice System, under the age of eighteen. Juvenile delinquencyis an ongoing issue within the United States that presents a challenge, not only to the respective court, but to the correctional system. It is often thought that the Juvenile System is separate from the criminal justicesystem due to the age of the youth. However, a lot of the same laws apply in Juvenile Court. A delinquent can be adjudicated with an offense and given a determinate or indeterminate sentence should the court feel that the youth should enter into the legal custody of the respective State. Through lots of research, Tennessee found that there is a direct correlation between early child neglect exposure and the overall risk of delinquency. Ryan, Williams, and Courtney (2013) stipulated that identifying youth with an active child welfare case is critical for the justice systems as they seek to understand and address specific family dynamics that may directly interfere with efforts to interrupt offending behaviors. Family context and parent child relationships are critical because they serve as a foundation for the provision of quality care (Ryan, Williams, Courtney, 2013, p. 462). This is not to say that all neglected youth can have a free pass to making poor choices. What the research tells us is that we need to provide a family focused approach rather than a punitive one. This is due to the fact being punitive in nature, has not bode well for society. A change is greatly
  • 36. Essay An Analysis of The Harlot s House An Analysis of The Harlot s House Oscar Wilde s The Harlot s House was written in 1881, towards the latter part of the Victorian era. This genre is a poem containing 12 stanzas. The point of view in this piece is from the narrator s perspective early on, the narrative distance moves further distant in the fourth stanza, zooms in, then out again. The narrator is walking down a street and pauses, with his companion, beneath the harlot s house (Wilde, Longman p. 2069: 1.3). In the next two stanzas Wilde transitions to the inside of the house depicting a partygoers atmosphere in Inside, above the din and fray (2.1) and shadows of the figures inside are projected onto the blind (3.3). The narrator turns to his love and opines, the dead are dancing with the dead an insinuation that these are not people, but sinners in their despised condition (9.2 3). The final three stanzas contain the climax where the narrator s companion is wooed by the music and chooses to go into the harlot s house Love passed into the house of Lust (10.3). Another reading would have the narrator s love as the actual harlot herself. I find that harder to fathom, but rather the story of the narrator s love wooed by the gaiety and frivolous lifestyle more believable. The narrator s condemnation of this brothel is in keeping with the ending of the Victorian age, a time ruled by propriety and prudishness. The companion of the narrator chose the allure of a wanton, rule free lifestyle though. This poem typifies Wilde s own life to some degree, in that he enjoyed marriage and fatherhood but found married life a bore (Longman p. 2067). Wilde is then said to have become enamoured of a book known as the bible of decadence (p. 2067) and similar to his poem, he then chose to enter the harlot s house, so to speak. His biographer described his decision to follow decadence as Wilde being summoned to the underground (p. 2067). Wilde later fell in love with a young man, Lord Alfred Douglas, who unfortunately for Wilde, had a father that disapproved of the relationship (p.

While Erikson was influenced by Freud s ideas, his theory differed in a number of important ways and was ultimately created to be an improvement to Freud s personality development theory (Friedman Schustack, 2012). Like Freud s psychosexual theory, Erikson agreed that personality progresses in a sequence of predetermined phases. According to Freud s psychosexual theory, personality develops across 5 sexual stages while Erikson s develops among 8 social stages. Freud s theory has fewer stages due to his belief that the last stage of identity develops during adolescence, while Erikson s theory had more stages because he believed an individual s identity continually evolved over their entire lifetime (Hoare, 2005). The Nothing that is about Everything The Nothing That Is A Natural History of Zero by Robert Kaplan is a book literally a book about the number zero and how it was formed. He takes the reader on a journey through time and shows the transformation of not just zero but numbers in general from multiple countries and empires. Kaplan starts off his book by describing zero and what its possibilities are in the world. Then he jumps into the Sumerians who were one of the first to create a number system comprised of stick that had a triangle on the top. Slowly their number system evolved but never had a zero. They started making place holders for the larger numbers and assigning different sizes to the shapes in order to show a larger amount. He then moves on to the Greeks who he credits the discovery of zero. It is believed that the O came from the Greek word omicron which is the first letter of ouden or nothing. Zero was not originally used to show the absences of something but as a place holder or a space between other numbers. It was then used by Greek astronomers as anything from minutes and seconds to degrees but still not as zero today. It wasn t until 730 AD that the Greeks used an informal way to show zero. They would count using their fingers and zero was a relaxed hand. The Greeks even created a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Indians created their own type of arithmetic called Bakhsali and they had to learn to solve fractions and multiply them. Hindus was one of the people to uses this math to solve many different problems like foiling and solving for x. Another important figure is Donald Knuth who came up with exponents they were originally pictured as 3 3. The more arrows placed in between the threes the more exponents were stacked on each other. Later on Kaplan shows a property of zero, he is setting quadratics equal to zero so they can be
  • 52. The Color Red in American Beauty Essay The Color Red in American Beauty The beauty that addresses itself to the eyes is only the spell of the moment; the eye of the body is not always that of the soul. George Sand hit the nail right on the head when he said this in 1872. Appearance versus reality has been a central theme in many American creative works including the film American Beauty. American Beauty is a film that delves into your typical, middle class suburban American home and slowly uncovers all of the abnormalities that lie within. The family is portrayed as normal but as the films tag line suggests look closer then it is possible to fully understand the implications that takes place in this seemingly happy home. The film is masterfully directed by the famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another adaptation of the title is the beauty of a perfect American home much like the Burnham s home appears to be. But all have flaws, the rose has thorns to prick, Angela has her fear of being ordinary and the Burnham s home, well it too is cursed with the reality that they are a dysfunctional family. Red roses become not only a motif in the film; they come to represent symbols. They are prevalent in almost every scene. They are in the garden; almost every room in the house has a bouquet of brightly colored roses in a vase. They are the centerpieces to the dining room table. This table becomes a motif in the film as well, the family has its nightly dinner ritual and over the course of the movie we see a delineation of the family at this table. Rose petals are the symbol of sex as well, they are seen surrounding Angela for Lester, they burst out of her blouse, they pop out of his mouth after he fantasizes of kissing her and they fall from the ceiling onto his face when he pictures her above his bed. The front door to the house becomes a motif as well, with constant references from neighbors about the house with the red door. As if the door is a gateway to the oddities lurking inside the house. Within the house Mendes restricted the colors to a monochromatic blue gray scheme to emphasize

  • 54. Realism In The Slynx Depiction of the post historical time in the Tolstaya s novel represents a perfect morally corrupt world in need of a saviour. This degraded setting echoes the failed utopianism thinking of the early post Soviet period, as according to Agren: it [The Slynx] is a reflection of the postmodern and late Soviet disbelief in the utopian idea of state promoted progress as a grand narrative. Even though Agren argues that the anti utopianism of the novel was inspired by the Soviet collapse, the Blast in The Slynx is commonly associated with the Chernobyl catastrophe , which puts an end to the Soviet fascination with the progress. Although the technological disaster or a Blast puts an end to the Soviet utopianism, fragmentary Soviet narratives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 55. Alternate Energy Automobiles Essays Alternate Energy Automobiles Of the world s approximately 650,000,000 motor vehicles, fewer than 1,500,000 are not powered by either gasoline or diesel. (Bradley 24). This minority of the vehicular population equates to a mere two thousandths of a percent of alternately powered vehicles. Nearly all of these alternately powered vehicles are powered by liquefied petroleum or compressed natural gas. The time to change that for the better is here and we must push our way through the red tape created by automakers so we can finally drive practical low emission cars. It is imperative that we begin driving higher efficiency automobiles because the limited supply of fossil fuels is running low, global warming is becoming a major issue ... That is why I find it hard to believe that DiamlerChrysler, Ford, and Ballard have spent close to $1 billion on fuel cells and plan to spend at least a billion more by 2004 to begin mass producing vehicles. (Fairley 55). All of this without being forced upon by an environmental regulation or us. Ironically when both the chief executive officer of GM and Ford retired they both decided to put their effort into electronic vehicles (EVs). The EV has a strange history which all started in the 1800s. The first invention that contributed to the EV was the lead acid battery; the battery was constructed mainly of lead, copper, and an acid. Back then people had no use for an EV which was incredibly slow and wasn t rechargeable. However, a major step for fuel cells in the 1800s was by William Grove, [w]hile experimenting with electrolysis [breaking up of water into gases] in 1839, Sir. William Grove discovered that the reverse was also true. (Syndor, 57). Grove was accredited with the invention of fuel cells because of this. The most popular battery powered EV was offered by General Motors, and was on a lease only basis for about the price of a BMW, or a Lexus. The new EVs are self sustaining, so they don t need to be recharged like the battery powered vehicles. Most of the new EVs are hybrid or fuel cell powered. Nearly all EVs can accelerate
  • 56. Network Theory, Plot Analysis And With Shada s... As we ve previously encountered social network analysis with some of our readings like Franco Moretti s article, Network Theory, Plot Analysis and with Shada s presentation last week, I m not going to go into too much detail about the basics of social network analysis since I think that would be kind of redundant. My presentation will focus mainly upon how social networkanalysis can be used in literary studies to enrich our knowledge of subsets within the English discipline, and even the discipline as a whole. So before I get into that, I ll provide a super quick review of the most important parts of social network analysis. Social network analysis started off as a technique in sociology, but has since expanded into other disciplines, including, of course, literary studies, and the technique allows us to see relationships among actors through visual displays of nodes and and ties. In their book Social Network Analysis, David Knoke and Song Yang underline some fundamental underlying assumptions about the importance of social network analysis, and state that social networks affect perceptions, beliefs, and actions through a variety of structural mechanisms that are socially contructed by relations among entities. Direst contacts and more intensive interactions dispose entities to better information, greater awareness, and higher susceptibility to influencing or being influenced by others. Importantly, they also remind us that networks are not static structures, but are
