Stereotypes Of Women In The 21st Century
In the early 21st century, women s activist groups have been becoming a more and more
prominent sight in modern day society, but whilst nowadays, they are common sight, prior to the
20th century, it was impossible for women to vote or run for office in Canada, as well as many
other countries (Stoddart, 2016). Knowing this, it raises the question, why were women fine with
such standards for 1900 years? The answer to this question revolves around social conventions.
Social conventions are unwritten rules in society that are treated as the norm and as such, can be
misinterpreted as the right thing to do, making them very hard to oppose. However, in truth,
following social norms is not always the correct thing to do. Budge Wilson s short... Show more

However, where Elizabeth is being treated poorly by her husband, I was being treated poorly by a
bully. In modern society, victims of bullying are known for enduring the abuse silently until the
situation miraculously resolves from a change in locations. As such, bullies do not pose a large
problem if the victim will change locations within 1 or 2 years; however, in my case, I shared
classes with the perpetrator for 6 years. Over the course of those years, he progressively made a
greater impact in my life to the point that I felt scared of seeing my friends if it meant
confronting the bully. This seriously affected my happiness and contributed to stress/anxiety until
his taunts had built up enough anger in me to cause physical contact. The trigger incident for this
was that he had slapped me twice as a joke, but in return, I grabbed his shirt and dragged him
until he stopped resisting. Eventually I let him go, but as a result of my resistance, he has ceased
to attack me since then. Had I followed social conventions, I would have spent the rest of the year
stressed out and bottling my emotions, which has been scientifically proven to increase health risks
and statistically shorten life spans (Gustafson, 2016). This situation is almost identical to the one in
the The Leaving, as in both our scenarios, the victim is abused by the perpetrator for years until the
victim is distressed to the point that they are forced to take a stand. Additionally, both of our
struggles help stop the abuse, proving that in certain situations, it is indeed worth challenging a
social norm rather than following it. As such, we can conclude that following social expectations is
not always the right thing to

Essay on The Mbuti Culture
Mbuti Culture
Introduction
The Mbuti people are known as foragers because their main source of survival lies on hunting
and gathering as they move from one place to another. They originated from a region in Africa
called Congo. The Mbuti people even with their fairly decent population prefer to be grouped into
smaller groups or bands which are mostly made up of close relatives. They live in the rainforests
of central Africa, where they have lived popularly for more than 6000 years now.
Different anthropologists such as Nowak and Laird (2010), and Butler (2006), recommended that
these residents of jungles contain an exclusive background; position, morals and everyday life is
entirely through big adjustment. It can be said that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a bird named the Greater Honey steer that flies to the bee hives and demonstrates the
Mbuti where the honey is. The honey steers live on beeswax. According to Kaczynski, (2010), he
described that the Mbuti people constructed their homes from leaves and branches. They dress in
small clothing as it is forever warm in the rainforest. They create their clothing from leaves and
objects they discover in the rainforest. Their techniques of life are in hazard as of the obliteration of
the rainforest that they exist in. The government has attempted to teach them how to farm, however
the Mbuti do not wish to alter the techniques of their lives.
They are conscious about passageway, rivers and valleys. The Mbuti hunts through traps, nets and
arrows. Bend over hunting is masculine issue, at the same time as net hunting is completed by both
sexes; (women and men). The men rest in the traps and the women attempt to redden nature out of
their defeating spot. Some animals they hunt are the antelopes, ants, crawfish, pigs, worms, insects,
snails, monkeys and fishes. The head of the hunters shares all the meat with his grouping. A further
leader technique of achieving food is plundering. This is when women and men explore the jungle
headed in groups gathering every sort of plants: honey, roots, fruits, leaves, wild yams, berries and
cola nuts etc.

Gnosticism And Tertullian s Development Of Christian...
During a time where Gnostic ideology was one of the heresies gaining momentum, Tertullian and
Irenaeus were two of the individuals that brilliantly defended the faith. They saw Gnosticism
through the same lens as many other Church Fathers, as nothing else but a heresy. In their time this
was a real threat to the true faith that was laid out for them through the Scriptures and through the
oral tradition passed down by the apostles. Like many heresies, Gnosticism started off within a
Christian foundation. However, what makes it more interesting is that Gnosticism as philosophy or
the ideology as a whole may have predated Christianitysince we see some epistles arguing against
some of the Gnostic principles (Kelly 23). To further refute the heresy, Irenaeus and Tertullian had a
tremendous contribution in the development of Christian apologetics. While similar, many have
credited Irenaeus to his ecclesiological development and Tertullian to his Christological
development in the early Church.
Through the writings of Irenaeus, we quickly learn of how he viewed the Scriptures and the
apostles. Irenaeus laid his argument by stating a foundation that every Christian would agree with,
which was that Christ himself is the ultimate source of Christian doctrine. While this may seem
very intuitive, it is because of this foundation that Irenaeus lays out that he is able to further
develop his argument. Irenaeus continues with this argument by stating that Christ has revealed his

Similarities Between Us And Vietnam
Although US and Vietnam have many similarities, they also have greater differences. First of it,
In US, people use cars as the main transportation method. They prefer cars than other
transportation because of several reasons. The climate in US is not suitable for driving
motorbikes. Some states have cold climate, for example, Alaska and North Dakota. As a matter
of fact, Alaska has an average daytime summer temperatures range from approximately 55 to 78
degrees Fahrenheit, and North Dakota has an average of 57 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. In
addition, in Alaska, the average winter temperatures range from 5 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and
from 23 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit in North Dakota. So it is not suitable to drive motorbikes in US.
Secondly, roads system in US is made for car transportation, because it doesn t have lanes for
motorbikes. Typically, a highway in US have 10 lanes. On the other hand, Vietnamese people use
motorbike as the main transportation method. It is easy to understand because streets in Vietnam
are mostly small and tight, so cars cannot drive into it. Furthermore, in peak hours, travelling by
motorbikes will save much time because they can wriggle through every spaces possible.
Additionally, using cars in Vietnam is increasing the amount of carbon dioxide that is expelled to
the environment because Vietnam doesn t have a modern technology to create an eco friendly car
which produces less gas to the environment. In conclusion, Vietnamese people... Show more content

that come to mind are trustworthy or honest, motivated, and knowledgeable. Ever leader needs
to be honest and have the trust of those who are following them. This is essential for any plan or
idea to be carried out steadily. Also, open communication cannot happen if one does not trust
their leader. Next, a leader must be motivated and have energy. If a leader is not motivated, those
who are following them are also not going to be motivated either. Someone has to be able to
push others to keep up the hard work to get to where they need to be. Lastly, a leader needs to be
knowledgeable. At work, often when faced with something that I do not know the answer to, I
go to my charge nurse who is very knowledgeable on almost all situations that may arise. If
lacking any vital knowledge, staff under that leader will not have anyone to go to in times of
need. This leads to the follower being lost and not knowing what the next step is in their situation.
All of these traits are what I like to see in a leader in my work

The Merit Of Education
Education is a process of acquisition of ideas, either skill, facts or the art of imparting judgment to
a group, society or even an individual (Grace, 1996). Most of the countries to spend a lot of their
funds on education. It is mainly experienced in the American government. The education system in
this continent is free to its citizen. To my opinion, making it free adds a lot of merit to them. They
can develop their society in different areas because they have the required skills and knowledge
that may be necessary to carry out any development activity. It is through educationthat several
developments relay on. Educated people can pool their ideas together to alleviate a problem that
may be affecting them. My argument on the merit of education will be based on what value it has
to the person being educated and the one proving funds for education.
The United States government does a lot to its citizen. The primary task is to educate its citizen. It
makes sure that everyone can access the quality education all over the American soil. The
government spends a lot of its fund to educate its citizen. It is so because education is free in
America. It ensures that no one will be segregated out due to poverty that maybe a hindrance to
education. There are merits that people leap from this education such as technology advancement,
cohesion, economic growth, employment, agricultural developments and many others. The
government does reap a lot from the education it provides to its

I believe that one of the main reasons why this restaurant is so successful is the fact that people
who eat here enjoy the unique environment and want to come back. The design at all Cheesecake
Factories is very elegant and the architecture at each restaurant is more developed and fancy.
People often come back for more because, even though they know the prices are slightly higher
than at other restaurants, the meal sizes are bigger and of a better quality. The Cheesecake Factory
takes pride in being known for giving their customers large portions of food which is why many of
them take the leftovers back home with them all the time.
One of the strength is the common knowledge of cheesecakes. When people think of
Cheesecake Factory the number one thing that comes to their minds is the cheesecake. There are so
many different kinds of cheesecakes and with this amount of varieties to choose from, it definitely
is one of the most significant strengths that the Cheesecake Factory has. I believe that
The Cheesecake Factory should take an advantage of this strength and start selling all the kinds of

Comparison Of Drummer Hodge And I Look Into My Glass By...
Thomas Hardy was a poet and novelist from the 19th century. He was born in June 1840, and he
had wrote over 800 poems in his lifetime, a lot of which were published in his latter years. I am
going to compare and contrast two of his poems: Drummer hodge and I Look into my glass.
Drummer Hodge is a poem about a young man who tragically lost his life in the Boer war. Hardy
heard news about the death of the young drummer who was from Dorchester in wessex (the region
that Hardy most commonly wrote about) The drummers in the war could often be as young as
thirteen or fourteen, as they would be dishonest about their age to the recruitment officers. Hodge is
not the drummer s name; it was often a nickname given to agricultural workers at this period ...

Both poems use the abab structure, have three stanzas and concentrate on the theme of death.
Whilst the poem of Drummer hodge has the backdrop of a huge landscape, I look into my glass
portrays the sufferings of a melancholy man who is writing in self pity. The language differs a
lot between the two pems as Drummer Hodge is a external pem that can easily be imagined
however I look into my glass is not only internalised it is introverted. Hodge himself wouldnt of
wanted to die so young while Hardy felt he had lived his life and wanted it to come to an end,
this displays a huge contrast between the poems. In I look into my glass the coldness of other
people s hearts is emphasised by the assonance of grown cold and then lonely in the next line. It
also underlines Hardy s grieving with the words steals and eve . Assonance cannot be found in
Drummer Hodge as I believe he is telling a story while in I look into my glass he truly wants
sympathy for himself from the

How Did Elizabeth Pinncney Influence The Economy
Elizabeth Pinckney is perhaps one of the most influential people when it comes to agriculture in
the early U.S. as she established indigo as a new cash crop, first for South Carolina, then the rest
of the South. Her discovery and the tests that she conducted in botany helped the agricultural
economy in the South grow and soon flourish. Eliza Lucas was born in Antigua in the West
Indies in 1722 and was the eldest child of Lt. Colonel George Lucas and Ann Lucas. She had 3
other siblings; her brothers, Thomas and George, and her sister Mary. Eliza was in no way born
in poverty as her family was well set, owning 3 sugarcane plantations. She grew up on one of
these plantations and lived an average life like everyone else and was soon, along with the rest of
her siblings, sent to receive schooling in England as this was the usual thing for elite colonists to

Justice In The Odyssey
As Mahatma Gandhi once noted astutely, An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Gandhi
s assertion challenges this moral code established in both the Odyssey and the Old Testament, just
as Aeschylus challenges the validity of vendetta as a successful technique for maintaining societal
order in his Oresteiatrilogy. The revenge ethic plays a key role in the story because it makes
justice the personal responsibility of the person insulted; the killer must be killed, and the act of
retribution must be carried out by the most appropriate person preferably a close blood relative. It
is a radically straightforward basis for justice, linking retribution to the family and its collective
honor. Like the storied blood feud between the Hatfields... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did Louis Pasteur Saved France
Shortly after Pasteur s discovery, he made an even greater impact but on the economy of France in
the mid nineteenth century instead. During the mid 1850s, Louis Pasteur lived in Lille, a region
inhabited by vinegar makers, brewers, and wine producers. It was no surprise that Pasteur gradually
developed a great interest in the science of fermentation. During the early 1860s, manufacturers of
wine and vinegar were confused as to why the fermentation process suddenly stopped prematurely.
When this occurred it was common for the liquid to turn sour, leaving it useless for the producers
and consumers, and resulted in massive financial loss to the manufacturers. In 1862, Pasteur began

He discovered that yeast cells were actually living microorganisms and were the main characters in
the process of fermentation. He found that although yeast helped the liquid to ferment, another
microorganism was ceasing this process. Louis Pasteur also discovered the reason for why
thousands of gallons of wine was gradually becoming sour and figured out a solution as well. He
discovered by putting it through a pasteurization process, the wine would not spoil but instead
return back to its once pleasant taste and texture. By making these discoveries, Louis Pasteur
saved France millions of francs, years of time, and thousands of gallons of resources. He
prevented a major aspect of France s economy from collapsing: their wine, beer, and vinegar

People are desperate in the nature in doing anything to find out what will happen next or what
will happen in the future. This reaction of feeling desperate to find out what will happen seems
to be more of an accumulated feeling of wanting to have a sense of control. Instead of allowing
the future to just to be the future they are desperate on finding answers to unknown answers
about their lives to gain of power of control over their lives. Desperate measures could be going
to mediums and fortunetellers just like the character (serial killer) to feel a sense of control.
Finally, the episode showed that people in reaction for searching for the control over their lives
become gullible. Being gullible in the fact that they basically believe anything anybody says
about knowing an aspect of their future. For an example in the episode, when the FBI officers
brought in a fortuneteller to help on a lead on finding a serial killer the man was naming broad

Fraternal Twins Nature Vs Nurture
Twins are a unique twist to life. Families are blessed with one pregnancy and two children. Twins
open a portal for researchers to study the oldest debate in psychology; nature vs. nurture, a concept
that seems to stump many and have few models to learn from. Essentially, there are two types of
twins. There are identical twins, who are monozygotic, developing from a single fertilized egg,
split. Then, there are fraternal twins, who come from two separate fertilized eggs, making them
dizygotic. Identical twins share 100% of their DNA, practically making them clones; while fraternal
twins share 50% DNA. When studying twins, many scientists use both identical and fraternal twins
to analyze how the environment and genetic makeup can influence attitude... Show more content on

Twin studies are vital for behavioral genetics in the sense that researchers can study how
genetics can influence certain traits. For example, identical twins many be raised in the same
household and both enjoy horseback riding, while a set of fraternal twins may not both enjoy
horseback riding. The standard study conducted is based on twins raised in the same family
environment, as this method can show how life experiences play a role. Many twins are raised in
the same home and share a lot of the same experiences, which can impact their behavior, no
matter the genetic makeup. A significant theory associated with twin studies is the Random
Mating theory. In this theory, researchers tend to assume that people are as likely to choose
partners who are different from themselves as they are to choose partners who are similar for a
particular trait (2017). While twin studies are essential in gathering data for behavioral genetics,
they can only estimate the heritability of a trait, while molecular genetics attempts to pinpoint the
effects of a particular gene. While twins who grow up in a similar environment is the ideal method
used, there are cases that involve twins who grew up in separate environments. In Joseph s (2014)
piece, he reviews common facts and fallacies associated with studies on twins reared apart. It was
found that, a particular study,

Byzantine Empire Religion
Byzantine The important thing about the Byzantine Empire is that it prospered for another 1000
years after the fall of Rome. The Roman Empire was split into the Byzantine Empire(East Roman
Empire) by Diocletian to make it easier to rule the huge territory. The Emperor Constantine moved
the capital to Constantinople, a city where many trade routes pass through. As a result,
Constantinople was a rich and prosperous city and so was the empire. Emperor Justinian made a
set of laws for all in the empire to follow called the Justinian Code. It covered almost every topic
such as robberies, marriage, wills, and etcetera. Later in 1054, the Great Schism occurred splitting
Christianity into the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church which was used in
the Byzantine Empire. But the important thing about the Byzantine Empire is that it prospered for

Miss Piggy And Miss Housekeeping By Claudia Rankine Citizen
Equality? Equality is the state of being equal, however the idea of equality has been such an
issue not only in the past but the present as well. White people believe that they are superior to
minorities such as Women, African Americans and Hispanics because, minorities, are They
make women feel inferior, believe that African Americans are threatening and violent, and think
that Hispanics are murderous and slothful. This is in fact very wrong because they judge people
based on what is being said or events that have no relevance. Minorities are treated unfairly
because they are different and are believed to be less than others. Women have always been seen
as though they are below men. This has been traced all the way back to the days where women
had no rights and had no voice or opinion, and some men still seem to think that way even after so
many decades of women s rights. For example, the presidential candidate Donald Trumpcalled a

Americans are seen as people who are frightening and dangerous, however that is not always the

Larry The Cable Guy Analysis
Language is a powerful tool that the average person uses on a day to day basis. There are many
dialects and accents within each language in the world. Sometimes people manipulate the way
they speak in order to achieve a goal. This paper will serve to illustrate a particular dialect that is
being manipulated in order to achieve a goal. I chose to analyze the speech of Larry the Cable
Guy and will attempt to explain the language bias he employs. Larry the Cable Guy is a famous
stand up comedian, actor, voice artist and country music artist. He is best known as a member
of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour where he performs stand up. His real name is Daniel Lawrence
Whitney, although he usually is referred to by his stage name. He was born in Pawnee City,
Nebraska. His father was raised in a farming and cattle ranching family from Northeast Kansas. As
a result, Whitney s father became a pig farmer which is what Whitney was raised around. Then,
Whitney moved to Florida in high school where he gravitated towards people similar to his family.
This is when he first began to pick up on the Southern American Englishdialect. He then attended
Baptist University of America in Georgia where he majored in drama and speech. He claims to
have really picked up on the southern dialect during his first year of college. He credits his
roommate for influencing the way he began to speak as he was from Dalton, Georgia and had a
thick southern accent. Whitney calls himself a linguist chameleon as a result of always speaking
like those that are around him (Graham Bensinger 2017). His ability to speak another dialect well
is obvious during his stand up especially. He clearly articulates a Southern American Englishdialect
during his stand up and other various roles. The Southern English dialect is one of the most
stigmatized dialects, behind African American Vernacular English. There are many misconceptions
about having a southern accent. Those who speak Southern American English often face
discrimination as many people few it as an ignorant way to speak. It is theorized that the Southern
American English dialect originated in a large part from a mix of immigrants from the British Isles
who moved to the American

Michael Jordan Essay
Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, and when he was still a
toddler, his parents moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Jordan played baseball, basketball,
and football as a child. He loved baseball, but his love for basketball started growing when his

Following Jordan s third NBA championship, he had some troubles. Jordan s father pulled over

began an investigation into allegations that Jordan had illegally bet on NBA games, but he was
eventually cleared. These events eventually caused Jordan to lose his motivation and the sense
of having to prove something as a basketball player, and he felt it was time to step away from the
court. Jordan sought a new challenge to play professional baseball. He signed a minor league
contract with the Chicago White Sox. He was assigned to the Birmingham Barons, and played
an outfielder position. His presence in the minors grew large numbers in attendance, but Jordan s
batting was uncharacteristic of his athletic skills. In his first summer with the Barons, he batted
.202 with 114 strikeouts in 127 games. On March 18, 1995, Jordan announced that he would be
playing basketball again. He ended his short baseball career and rejoined the Bulls near the end
of the 1994 1995 regular season, eventually losing to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference
Semifinals. Jordan once again had something to prove to the world, that he was still the greatest
basketball player to ever play the game, and that he would be even greater in the season to come.

The Freedom Of School Choice Essay
In a nation founded upon freedom, the liberty to choose the institution from which you get your
education should be a greater concern in Pennsylvania. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy
of liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our
government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America
should have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned
with this infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom
to homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being
that they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire
the religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated.
Because of the support that the government gives public schools using taxdollars and government
subsidies, parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools,
secular private schools, or even charter schools.
Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents
to put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Many public schools are
dropping their academic standards as well as losing their ethical standards altogether. Thus many
parents do not want to put their children in a school where they do not

Food Assistance Program Essay
Introductory Summary
Today the majority of our farm bill is dedicated to food assistance programs. In 2013 through the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP) the U.S fed 47.6 million citizens at the cost
of 76.4 billion. Another food assistance program called WIC has fed 9 million woman, infants,
and children at the price of 7 billion. The American government is doing a tremendous job at
feeding the less fortunate through these programs but like many programs they need to be
improved. Through the SNAP program participants are able to spend taxpayer money on sugar
filled soft drinks and candy. The new bill that is being prepared will limit the purchase of these
unnecessary products. This bill will restrict participants to simple food staples such as bread, beans,
fruit, vegetables and rice. The new bill will also add white potatoes to the WIC program. These
changes that need to be made will contribute in boosting the demand of multiple commodities and
help eliminate unneeded aid to unhealthy foods.

Disadvantages Of Pricing Strategy
Price strategy refers to the enterprise through the estimation of customer demand and cost analysis,

A good pricing strategy can help you determine the price point that maximizes your profit when
you sell your product or service. Although the customer does not buy goods that are too

Pricing strategy, a very critical component of the marketing mix. Price is usually an important

Preventive measures attempt to stop blooms from occurring, minimize their incidence or limit their
extent. The most effective way to prevent adverse health effects to humans from the red tides is to
prevent exposure to the toxins and organisms. Lowering the amount of nutrients that are discharged
into local watersheds is a top priority for prevention advocates that engage in red tide debates.
Reduced nutrient loads will improve water quality throughout watersheds, in addition to lowering
the intensity of terrestrial fluxes when a red tide is in close proximity to the coastline. Reduced
loads may or may not lead to a discernible change in red tide patterns, but they will certainly
improve the health of local watersheds. An important issue that prevention advocates need to
consider, however, is the modalities of reducing nutrient loads and the most appropriate venues for
affecting change. The major sources of local water quality impairment includes domestic and
industrial wastewater, urban and suburban stormwater, agricultural runoff and hydrological
changes. Local water quality problems could be associated with domestic and industrial point
sources but stricter regulatory controls and new wastewater treatment technologies have
substantially reduced pollution from these sources. Non point sources now account for most of the
water quality problems in the state with urban stormwater and agricultural runoff being the
primary concerns. And unlike point source discharges, non point sources are difficult to measure,
monitor and control. In the case of NSP, this means monitoring shellfish beds for organisms and
toxins as well as closing shellfish beds to harvest when specified levels are detected. When
aerosolized red tide reach specific levels, water and air monitoring can detect high levels in the air,

Rule of Law and Separation of Powers
Government under the law and the protection of rights and freedom are twin pillars of the rule of
law. Without the separation of powers, neither of these principles would be realized.
Governments perform three functions namely executive, judicial and legislative functions. The role
of separation of powers involves the diffusion rather than concentration of powers within the state.
Thus, these branches should be separate, unique and equal. The underlying principle of the
separation of powers is that individuals have the potential to harm others, and this can become a

AV Dicey s view on the rule of law cannot be ignored because of the lasting influence he has had.
Dicey s views were derived from his understanding of the nature of democracy in UK as unitary
and self correcting in which the will of the people are expressed through Parliament, and in which
Parliament controlled the government. In setting out the rule of law, Dicey considered three
distinct elements. No punishment may be inflicted on anyone other than for a breach of the law;
irrespective of rank and status, all men are equal under the law; and the rights and freedom of
citizen are best protected under the common law.
The rule of law represents a challenge to State authority and power, demanding both that power be
granted legitimately and that their exercise is according to law. The law is not autonomous but
rests on the support of those it governs. Whilst the rule of law places law above everyone, it
remains paradoxically subjected to the ultimate judgment of the people. The rule of law is
considered the most fundamental doctrines of the constitution of UK. The constitution is said to be
founded on the idea of the rule of law.
The UK does have a kind of

Essay on Dietary Factors in Preventing Heart Disease
Dietary Factors in Preventing Heart Disease As coronary heart disease is the leading cause of
death in the UK, more attention should be paid to preventing the disease. Many patients
suffering from heart disease realise that it was mainly caused by their diet. Research has shown
that elevated levels of LDL cholesterol are associated with increased risk of heart disease.
Studies indicate that for every 1% elevation in the bad cholesterol there is a 2% increase in risk
of heart disease (A leaflet on heart disease.) Continually it has been proved that a low fat, high
fibre diet rich in unrefined complex carbohydrates helps lower the risk of heart disease and

Benecol foods are another way to help prevent Heart Disease. The unique ingredients in benecol
foods block the absorption of cholesterol into the body. In Finland over 1 million have eaten
Benecol margarine since 1995. Benecol is the first and only range of foods to contain plant
stanol ester. (www.benecol.co.uk/howben cont.html) All Benecol foods contain plant stanol
ester, a unique ingredient derived from plants that has the ability to work with your body to
actually lower blood cholesterol when eaten as part of a healthy diet. Benecol has a range of
foods that are easy to include in your diet, e.g. yoghurts, cheeses and spreads. These I have
noticed are readily available in shops and are not out of reach of a reasonable budget. Benecol
foods taste no different to your ordinary foods. Two are three servings a day will give you the
optimum cholesterol reducing effect combined with a healthy eating routine. Once you start eating
benecol foods regularly, your cholesterol levels may begin to fall within 1 to 2 weeks
(www.benecol.co.uk) Benecol does have one downfall, if you stop eating it, the cholesterol your

Mannequin Challenge News Report
Throughout this poetry unit, we analyzed numerous pieces of literature. Through looking at
different mediums, we examined how the inventive use of language in poetry boosts
communication and empowers self expression. This gave me a whole new insight on several
notions within our unit.
It made me recognize how poetry is not just a couple of rhyming short lines with a rhythm, but
much more than that. Poetry is a form of self expression; it is a means of imparting one s unique
ideas through conveying their perspective and feelings to the audience. It provokes emotions,
elucidates ideas and delivers a strong, perceptive message in an artistic way. Poems have a common
language, such as dialect, diction and connotation. Each of these devices transmits ... Show more

By merely reading a poem, one can identify the writer s mood, which reveals the self expression
aspect of poetry. When contemplating a poem s structural characteristics, such as style, expressions
and diction, the poet s emotions and condition is easily unravelled. For instance, The Old Familiar
Faces explored a poignant, sorrowful tone with the repetition of tragic expressions throughout. This
helped portray the theme of nostalgia and uncover the poet s condition when writing the poem. This
why I concur with the unit s statement of inquiry as I think it is very fitting of our poetry

Finding Food Stability
The increased dependence on biofuels also deter from food production, as they are produced
from crops, for example ethanol which is made from corn crop. In 2001, 7% of the US corn crop
was devoted to biofuel production and since then that number has increased to 23% (Searchinger).
Many argue then by switching to alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro we can
reduce our dependence on biofuels and thus use more of our crop for foodproduction efforts. It has
also been argued that the issue with world hunger isn t insufficient production of food but in fact
insufficient distribution. Because of this many believe that reducing trade barriers between nations
will help in equally distributing food to countries that lack it.
Vegetarianism is also another alternative that many consider will help feed more mouths. Since
1980, Brazil s meat consumption has more than doubled to 197 pounds a year and China s
intake of meat has quadrupled to 109 pounds per person. It requires a lot of time and energy to
produce animals for consumption. It takes about 7 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of beef,
6.5 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of pork, and 2.6 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of
chicken. From an energy efficiency standpoint then it makes sense to phase out the middleman of
meat as it means that more calories are received per person and not lost. Moreover, animal
agriculture accounts for 50% of water use worldwide so by reducing this activity, more water can be

Negative Effects Of Consumerism
Consumerism is becoming the characteristics of most world economies. In today s society,
consumerism is often having a negative aspect of people s lives. But, if looked in a positive light,
consumerism have certain positive characteristics. Consumerism has been as part of a history
process. People often want more than they have now, more money, a better car, a more comfortable
house, more luxuries brand clothing or shoes. People never be satisfied with them, because there is
new advertisement for new cars, clothes and electronics every day. In term of is discussion
consumerism, James B. Twitchell, author of The Allure of Luxury , explores the joys of luxury and
challenges the academic criticism that condemns our material instincts as shallow and self centered.
Another author Daniel Gross of Will Your Recession Be Tall, Grande, or Venti? , illustrates the
correlation which economists should be counting the number of baristas when they judge the
direction the economy will take between having too many Starbucks and having a financial crisis.
So, consumerism has a major effect on our lives, whatever negative effects or positive effects.
Consumerism increase economy growth. More consumption requires more production, more
production means more jobs and more incomein society, and more incomes means more
consumption. This is a cycle which if managed properly can bring growth to economy. Twitchell
said that This spending is being done by younger and younger consumers. Take a walk up Fifth
Avenue, and then, at 58th, cross over and continue up Madison. You will see who is swarming
through the stores with names we all recognize.....and you will see the same furious down
marketing and up crusting. (119) More production of manufactured goodsand services has increased
the consumerism world. Take cell phones for instant, it has become a need today. Elementary
school students are given the cell phone for safe reasons, giving the growth to the production of cell
phones. Furthermore, increases the employment opportunities directly or indirectly associated with
the communication industry. Consumerism not only affects the local markets, it has its effect
throughout the globe. Gross said that And these are precisely

Comparing The Book Frankenstein By Mary Shelly
For my dissertation I will be comparing the books Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, The Strange
Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and finally 1984 by George Orwell. All three books I believe
share a common theme which will be the subject of my dissertation. They all hold many themes
but the main ones I will be looking at are the perils of playing god, abuse of power, and lastly
manipulation and control.
One of the main themes of Frankenstein written by Mary Shelly in 1816 is the fall of man which
can be found in all three of the books in my dissertation, how man tries to progress in science or
society but ends up making the situation worse. This can be found in many books and in real life
situations which leads me to think trying to improve yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While undoubtedly the biggest theme running through Frankenstein is the perils of playing god
and how that can backfire, another large theme is parental neglect and irresponsibility which can
also be found in again Jekyll and Hyde and 1984. Sadly parental neglect can be found throughout
human history which again makes me think it could be a metaphor for something bigger. It
could be how people always have a secret dark side; maybe it s that side of us which can be to
blame for all the wrong things in society? Or maybe that s just another excuse to be the bad guy.
Victor Frankenstein s quote can also be compared with a quote from Robert Louis Stevenson s Dr
Jekyll and Mr Hyde narrated by Dr. Jekyll himself. In this next quote it shows again the total lack
of responsibility that we first saw in Frankenstein.
I hesitated long before I put this theory to the test of practice. I knew well that I risked death; for
any drug that so potently controlled and shook the very fortress of identity, might, by the least
scruple of an overdose or at the least inopportunity in the moment of exhibition, utterly blot out that
immaterial tabernacle which I looked to it to change. But the temptation of a discovery so singular
and profound at last overcame the suggestions of alarm. (Chp.10 Pg.54)
As previously shown, Dr. Jekyll completely ignores his own knowledge in that if that potion had
gone wrong (an instant death rather than split personality disorder) he would ve died. He

maxine hingston Assess the claim that social class differences in educational achievement are
primarily the result of school factors
Social class background has a powerful influence on a child s chances of success in the education
system. Children from middle class families on average perform better than children from working
class families and the gap between middle and working class educational achievement gets bigger
as children get older. Internal factors, also known as school factors, these are factors inside the
education system, such as a students subcultures, teacher labeling and language codes also affect a
child s achievement in education.

Labeling theory is also to deterministic; it says that once you re negatively labeled that s it, you ll
fail this isn t always the case. Some sociologist may argue that even though working class
students are often labeled and streamed into low achieving section, they are far from discouraging
students, it often makes students more likely to want to work hard to prove their teachers wrong.
This was proved in research in which black young girls were streamed into lower ability classes,
and were then determined to do better than they would have if they were labeled as high achievers.
Negative labelling and putting students into different streams or bands can cause some pupils to
rebel against school values. As a response to negative labelling and frustration with low status,
pupils may form antmaxine hingstoni school subcultures or vice versa and create a pro school
subculture.
Hargreaves said there were two distinctive subcultures emerged within the school; conformist and
non conformist delinquents. Hargreaves found that those in bottom setting and streaming groups
were more maxine hingstonlikely to be non conformist. Woods responded by saying that there are
lots of different reactions to school, but non conformist reactions were more likely to come from
working class student.
The Swann Report found that socio economic factors affected the lower levels of achievement

Charlotte Hornets Throw Team Case Study
Who must improve for the Charlotte Hornets to be a playoff team in 2016 17?
The 2015 16 Charlotte Hornets were extremely competitive after the All Star break last season, as
they had a 21 8 record after the All Star break. They went back and forth with the Atlanta Hawks,
Boston Celtics, and Miami Heat for the 3rd,4th,5th and 6th seed throughout the second half of the
season. In the end, the Hornets went back to the playoffs after a one year absence and ended up
with the 6th seed, losing to the Miami Heat in an exciting first round, seven game series. This
offseason saw the Hornets re sign Nicolas Batum and Marvin Williams, but they also lost some
key pieces from the previous playoff season in guard Courtney Lee (Knicks), center and sixth man

Kaminsky, however, was not consistent with scoring and rebounding last year and that will
have to improve. He more than likely will move into the starting lineup at center. Kaminsky will
also need to step up the rebounding numbers as he only averaged 4 rebounds a game. This
offseason it was reported that Kaminsky added some more muscle which will hopefully help
him in the post this year. Frank the Tank showed flashes of being able to the shoot the short/mid
range jump shot and hopefully he has developed somewhat of a game in the low post. With
Tyler Zeller backing him up or even possibly playing alongside of him with the second unit, his
rebounding and scoring in the post will be needed. Kaminsky will also be looking to improve on
the 41% FG shooting, which for a seven footer is fairly poor. This probably comes from fewer
attempts near the basket and more jump shots for a big man. Maybe Kaminsky adds to his strong
showing in the playoffs last year as a confidence builder towards the regular season. The addition
of Roy Hibbert along with starting power forward Marvin Williams should help provide the
veteran big man leadership he will need going forward this

Benefits Of College Credit In College
Earning college credit in high school sounds like a dream for many students, and can be extremely
beneficial, but there are various downfalls. Throughout the United States there are many programs
that offer students opportunities to obtain college credits. The four most popular are Advanced
Placement(AP), International Baccalaureate(IB), Collegein the School (CIS), and Postsecondary
Enrollment Options (PSEO).
Advanced Placement(AP) offers rigorous, college level classes that gives students an
opportunity to gain skills that colleges recognize. To earn college credits, students must take an
AP exam. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 5,4, or 3 mean the student did well,
and is qualified to receive college credit for that course, but anything lower than a 3 does not
qualify the student for college credits.
The second program I will be discussing is, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB
programs mission is to, develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to
create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. ( ) The IB
organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop
challenging courses and rigorous assessment. These courses encourage students across the world to
become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their
differences, can also be right. To obtain an IB diploma, students must receive a

  • 2. Stereotypes Of Women In The 21st Century In the early 21st century, women s activist groups have been becoming a more and more prominent sight in modern day society, but whilst nowadays, they are common sight, prior to the 20th century, it was impossible for women to vote or run for office in Canada, as well as many other countries (Stoddart, 2016). Knowing this, it raises the question, why were women fine with such standards for 1900 years? The answer to this question revolves around social conventions. Social conventions are unwritten rules in society that are treated as the norm and as such, can be misinterpreted as the right thing to do, making them very hard to oppose. However, in truth, following social norms is not always the correct thing to do. Budge Wilson s short... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, where Elizabeth is being treated poorly by her husband, I was being treated poorly by a bully. In modern society, victims of bullying are known for enduring the abuse silently until the situation miraculously resolves from a change in locations. As such, bullies do not pose a large problem if the victim will change locations within 1 or 2 years; however, in my case, I shared classes with the perpetrator for 6 years. Over the course of those years, he progressively made a greater impact in my life to the point that I felt scared of seeing my friends if it meant confronting the bully. This seriously affected my happiness and contributed to stress/anxiety until his taunts had built up enough anger in me to cause physical contact. The trigger incident for this was that he had slapped me twice as a joke, but in return, I grabbed his shirt and dragged him until he stopped resisting. Eventually I let him go, but as a result of my resistance, he has ceased to attack me since then. Had I followed social conventions, I would have spent the rest of the year stressed out and bottling my emotions, which has been scientifically proven to increase health risks and statistically shorten life spans (Gustafson, 2016). This situation is almost identical to the one in the The Leaving, as in both our scenarios, the victim is abused by the perpetrator for years until the victim is distressed to the point that they are forced to take a stand. Additionally, both of our struggles help stop the abuse, proving that in certain situations, it is indeed worth challenging a social norm rather than following it. As such, we can conclude that following social expectations is not always the right thing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on The Mbuti Culture Mbuti Culture Introduction The Mbuti people are known as foragers because their main source of survival lies on hunting and gathering as they move from one place to another. They originated from a region in Africa called Congo. The Mbuti people even with their fairly decent population prefer to be grouped into smaller groups or bands which are mostly made up of close relatives. They live in the rainforests of central Africa, where they have lived popularly for more than 6000 years now. Different anthropologists such as Nowak and Laird (2010), and Butler (2006), recommended that these residents of jungles contain an exclusive background; position, morals and everyday life is entirely through big adjustment. It can be said that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a bird named the Greater Honey steer that flies to the bee hives and demonstrates the Mbuti where the honey is. The honey steers live on beeswax. According to Kaczynski, (2010), he described that the Mbuti people constructed their homes from leaves and branches. They dress in small clothing as it is forever warm in the rainforest. They create their clothing from leaves and objects they discover in the rainforest. Their techniques of life are in hazard as of the obliteration of the rainforest that they exist in. The government has attempted to teach them how to farm, however the Mbuti do not wish to alter the techniques of their lives. They are conscious about passageway, rivers and valleys. The Mbuti hunts through traps, nets and arrows. Bend over hunting is masculine issue, at the same time as net hunting is completed by both sexes; (women and men). The men rest in the traps and the women attempt to redden nature out of their defeating spot. Some animals they hunt are the antelopes, ants, crawfish, pigs, worms, insects, snails, monkeys and fishes. The head of the hunters shares all the meat with his grouping. A further leader technique of achieving food is plundering. This is when women and men explore the jungle headed in groups gathering every sort of plants: honey, roots, fruits, leaves, wild yams, berries and cola nuts etc. Kinship The system of Kinship in this culture is very important. • 4. Gnosticism And Tertullian s Development Of Christian... During a time where Gnostic ideology was one of the heresies gaining momentum, Tertullian and Irenaeus were two of the individuals that brilliantly defended the faith. They saw Gnosticism through the same lens as many other Church Fathers, as nothing else but a heresy. In their time this was a real threat to the true faith that was laid out for them through the Scriptures and through the oral tradition passed down by the apostles. Like many heresies, Gnosticism started off within a Christian foundation. However, what makes it more interesting is that Gnosticism as philosophy or the ideology as a whole may have predated Christianitysince we see some epistles arguing against some of the Gnostic principles (Kelly 23). To further refute the heresy, Irenaeus and Tertullian had a tremendous contribution in the development of Christian apologetics. While similar, many have credited Irenaeus to his ecclesiological development and Tertullian to his Christological development in the early Church. Through the writings of Irenaeus, we quickly learn of how he viewed the Scriptures and the apostles. Irenaeus laid his argument by stating a foundation that every Christian would agree with, which was that Christ himself is the ultimate source of Christian doctrine. While this may seem very intuitive, it is because of this foundation that Irenaeus lays out that he is able to further develop his argument. Irenaeus continues with this argument by stating that Christ has revealed his message ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They prefer cars than other transportation because of several reasons. The climate in US is not suitable for driving motorbikes. Some states have cold climate, for example, Alaska and North Dakota. As a matter of fact, Alaska has an average daytime summer temperatures range from approximately 55 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, and North Dakota has an average of 57 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, in Alaska, the average winter temperatures range from 5 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and from 23 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit in North Dakota. So it is not suitable to drive motorbikes in US. Secondly, roads system in US is made for car transportation, because it doesn t have lanes for motorbikes. Typically, a highway in US have 10 lanes. On the other hand, Vietnamese people use motorbike as the main transportation method. It is easy to understand because streets in Vietnam are mostly small and tight, so cars cannot drive into it. Furthermore, in peak hours, travelling by motorbikes will save much time because they can wriggle through every spaces possible. Three that come to mind are trustworthy or honest, motivated, and knowledgeable. Ever leader needs to be honest and have the trust of those who are following them. This is essential for any plan or idea to be carried out steadily. Also, open communication cannot happen if one does not trust their leader. Next, a leader must be motivated and have energy. If a leader is not motivated, those who are following them are also not going to be motivated either. Someone has to be able to push others to keep up the hard work to get to where they need to be. Lastly, a leader needs to be knowledgeable. At work, often when faced with something that I do not know the answer to, I go to my charge nurse who is very knowledgeable on almost all situations that may arise. If lacking any vital knowledge, staff under that leader will not have anyone to go to in times of need. This leads to the follower being lost and not knowing what the next step is in their situation. Most of the countries to spend a lot of their funds on education. It is mainly experienced in the American government. The education system in this continent is free to its citizen. To my opinion, making it free adds a lot of merit to them. They can develop their society in different areas because they have the required skills and knowledge that may be necessary to carry out any development activity. It is through educationthat several developments relay on. Educated people can pool their ideas together to alleviate a problem that may be affecting them. My argument on the merit of education will be based on what value it has to the person being educated and the one proving funds for education. The United States government does a lot to its citizen. The primary task is to educate its citizen. It makes sure that everyone can access the quality education all over the American soil. The government spends a lot of its fund to educate its citizen. It is so because education is free in America. It ensures that no one will be segregated out due to poverty that maybe a hindrance to education. There are merits that people leap from this education such as technology advancement, cohesion, economic growth, employment, agricultural developments and many others. • 11. Comparison Of Drummer Hodge And I Look Into My Glass By... Thomas Hardy was a poet and novelist from the 19th century. He was born in June 1840, and he had wrote over 800 poems in his lifetime, a lot of which were published in his latter years. I am going to compare and contrast two of his poems: Drummer hodge and I Look into my glass. Drummer Hodge is a poem about a young man who tragically lost his life in the Boer war. Hardy heard news about the death of the young drummer who was from Dorchester in wessex (the region that Hardy most commonly wrote about) The drummers in the war could often be as young as thirteen or fourteen, as they would be dishonest about their age to the recruitment officers. Hodge is not the drummer s name; it was often a nickname given to agricultural workers at this period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both poems use the abab structure, have three stanzas and concentrate on the theme of death. Whilst the poem of Drummer hodge has the backdrop of a huge landscape, I look into my glass portrays the sufferings of a melancholy man who is writing in self pity. The language differs a lot between the two pems as Drummer Hodge is a external pem that can easily be imagined however I look into my glass is not only internalised it is introverted. Hodge himself wouldnt of wanted to die so young while Hardy felt he had lived his life and wanted it to come to an end, this displays a huge contrast between the poems. In I look into my glass the coldness of other people s hearts is emphasised by the assonance of grown cold and then lonely in the next line. It also underlines Hardy s grieving with the words steals and eve . Assonance cannot be found in Drummer Hodge as I believe he is telling a story while in I look into my glass he truly wants sympathy for himself from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Elizabeth Pinncney Influence The Economy Elizabeth Pinckney is perhaps one of the most influential people when it comes to agriculture in the early U.S. as she established indigo as a new cash crop, first for South Carolina, then the rest of the South. Her discovery and the tests that she conducted in botany helped the agricultural economy in the South grow and soon flourish. Eliza Lucas was born in Antigua in the West Indies in 1722 and was the eldest child of Lt. Colonel George Lucas and Ann Lucas. She had 3 other siblings; her brothers, Thomas and George, and her sister Mary. Eliza was in no way born in poverty as her family was well set, owning 3 sugarcane plantations. She grew up on one of these plantations and lived an average life like everyone else and was soon, along with the rest of her siblings, sent to receive schooling in England as this was the usual thing for elite colonists to do when their children reached a certain age. Gandhi s assertion challenges this moral code established in both the Odyssey and the Old Testament, just as Aeschylus challenges the validity of vendetta as a successful technique for maintaining societal order in his Oresteiatrilogy. The revenge ethic plays a key role in the story because it makes justice the personal responsibility of the person insulted; the killer must be killed, and the act of retribution must be carried out by the most appropriate person preferably a close blood relative. Twins open a portal for researchers to study the oldest debate in psychology; nature vs. nurture, a concept that seems to stump many and have few models to learn from. Essentially, there are two types of twins. There are identical twins, who are monozygotic, developing from a single fertilized egg, split. Then, there are fraternal twins, who come from two separate fertilized eggs, making them dizygotic. Identical twins share 100% of their DNA, practically making them clones; while fraternal twins share 50% DNA. Twin studies are vital for behavioral genetics in the sense that researchers can study how genetics can influence certain traits. For example, identical twins many be raised in the same household and both enjoy horseback riding, while a set of fraternal twins may not both enjoy horseback riding. The standard study conducted is based on twins raised in the same family environment, as this method can show how life experiences play a role. Many twins are raised in the same home and share a lot of the same experiences, which can impact their behavior, no matter the genetic makeup. A significant theory associated with twin studies is the Random Mating theory. In this theory, researchers tend to assume that people are as likely to choose partners who are different from themselves as they are to choose partners who are similar for a particular trait (2017). While twin studies are essential in gathering data for behavioral genetics, they can only estimate the heritability of a trait, while molecular genetics attempts to pinpoint the effects of a particular gene. While twins who grow up in a similar environment is the ideal method used, there are cases that involve twins who grew up in separate environments. • 29. Larry The Cable Guy Analysis Language is a powerful tool that the average person uses on a day to day basis. There are many dialects and accents within each language in the world. Sometimes people manipulate the way they speak in order to achieve a goal. This paper will serve to illustrate a particular dialect that is being manipulated in order to achieve a goal. I chose to analyze the speech of Larry the Cable Guy and will attempt to explain the language bias he employs. Larry the Cable Guy is a famous stand up comedian, actor, voice artist and country music artist. He is best known as a member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour where he performs stand up. His real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, although he usually is referred to by his stage name. He was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska. His father was raised in a farming and cattle ranching family from Northeast Kansas. As a result, Whitney s father became a pig farmer which is what Whitney was raised around. Then, Whitney moved to Florida in high school where he gravitated towards people similar to his family. This is when he first began to pick up on the Southern American Englishdialect. He then attended Baptist University of America in Georgia where he majored in drama and speech. He claims to have really picked up on the southern dialect during his first year of college. He credits his roommate for influencing the way he began to speak as he was from Dalton, Georgia and had a thick southern accent. Whitney calls himself a linguist chameleon as a result of always speaking like those that are around him (Graham Bensinger 2017). His ability to speak another dialect well is obvious during his stand up especially. He clearly articulates a Southern American Englishdialect during his stand up and other various roles. The Southern English dialect is one of the most stigmatized dialects, behind African American Vernacular English. There are many misconceptions about having a southern accent. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy of liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America should have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned with this infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom to homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being that they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire the religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated. Because of the support that the government gives public schools using taxdollars and government subsidies, parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools, secular private schools, or even charter schools. Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents to put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Algal blooms can occur at any time of year, but usually increase between September and February. K. brevis is the main producer of brevetoxin, which is a powerful toxin. It has killed millions of marine organisms, and mostly occurred in gulfs and coast. It happened in the Gulf of Mexico primarily, especially on the Western Gulf coastal area of Florida. Although uncommon, it occurred in other parts of the Gulf as well, such as the Texas coast and Indian River Lagoon on the Atlantic coast of Florida. Preventive measures attempt to stop blooms from occurring, minimize their incidence or limit their extent. The most effective way to prevent adverse health effects to humans from the red tides is to prevent exposure to the toxins and organisms. Lowering the amount of nutrients that are discharged into local watersheds is a top priority for prevention advocates that engage in red tide debates. Reduced nutrient loads will improve water quality throughout watersheds, in addition to lowering the intensity of terrestrial fluxes when a red tide is in close proximity to the coastline. Reduced loads may or may not lead to a discernible change in red tide patterns, but they will certainly improve the health of local watersheds. An important issue that prevention advocates need to consider, however, is the modalities of reducing nutrient loads and the most appropriate venues for affecting change. The major sources of local water quality impairment includes domestic and industrial wastewater, urban and suburban stormwater, agricultural runoff and hydrological changes. Local water quality problems could be associated with domestic and industrial point sources but stricter regulatory controls and new wastewater treatment technologies have substantially reduced pollution from these sources. Non point sources now account for most of the water quality problems in the state with urban stormwater and agricultural runoff being the primary concerns. And unlike point source discharges, non point sources are difficult to measure, monitor and control. In the case of NSP, this means monitoring shellfish beds for organisms and toxins as well as closing shellfish beds to harvest when specified levels are detected. Without the separation of powers, neither of these principles would be realized. Governments perform three functions namely executive, judicial and legislative functions. The role of separation of powers involves the diffusion rather than concentration of powers within the state. Thus, these branches should be separate, unique and equal. The underlying principle of the separation of powers is that individuals have the potential to harm others, and this can become a reality when power is concentrated in one person, faction, or institution. In combining the three in separate institutions (the Commons, Lords, and Crown respectively), the English constitution provides all that is necessary for good government. AV Dicey s view on the rule of law cannot be ignored because of the lasting influence he has had. Dicey s views were derived from his understanding of the nature of democracy in UK as unitary and self correcting in which the will of the people are expressed through Parliament, and in which Parliament controlled the government. In setting out the rule of law, Dicey considered three distinct elements. No punishment may be inflicted on anyone other than for a breach of the law; irrespective of rank and status, all men are equal under the law; and the rights and freedom of citizen are best protected under the common law. The rule of law represents a challenge to State authority and power, demanding both that power be granted legitimately and that their exercise is according to law. The law is not autonomous but rests on the support of those it governs. Whilst the rule of law places law above everyone, it remains paradoxically subjected to the ultimate judgment of the people. The rule of law is considered the most fundamental doctrines of the constitution of UK. The constitution is said to be founded on the idea of the rule of law. The UK does have a kind of ... This gave me a whole new insight on several notions within our unit. It made me recognize how poetry is not just a couple of rhyming short lines with a rhythm, but much more than that. Poetry is a form of self expression; it is a means of imparting one s unique ideas through conveying their perspective and feelings to the audience. In 2001, 7% of the US corn crop was devoted to biofuel production and since then that number has increased to 23% (Searchinger). Many argue then by switching to alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro we can reduce our dependence on biofuels and thus use more of our crop for foodproduction efforts. It has also been argued that the issue with world hunger isn t insufficient production of food but in fact insufficient distribution. Because of this many believe that reducing trade barriers between nations will help in equally distributing food to countries that lack it. Vegetarianism is also another alternative that many consider will help feed more mouths. Since 1980, Brazil s meat consumption has more than doubled to 197 pounds a year and China s intake of meat has quadrupled to 109 pounds per person. It requires a lot of time and energy to produce animals for consumption. It takes about 7 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of beef, 6.5 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of pork, and 2.6 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of chicken. • 43. Negative Effects Of Consumerism Consumerism is becoming the characteristics of most world economies. In today s society, consumerism is often having a negative aspect of people s lives. But, if looked in a positive light, consumerism have certain positive characteristics. Consumerism has been as part of a history process. People often want more than they have now, more money, a better car, a more comfortable house, more luxuries brand clothing or shoes. People never be satisfied with them, because there is new advertisement for new cars, clothes and electronics every day. In term of is discussion consumerism, James B. Twitchell, author of The Allure of Luxury , explores the joys of luxury and challenges the academic criticism that condemns our material instincts as shallow and self centered. Another author Daniel Gross of Will Your Recession Be Tall, Grande, or Venti? , illustrates the correlation which economists should be counting the number of baristas when they judge the direction the economy will take between having too many Starbucks and having a financial crisis. So, consumerism has a major effect on our lives, whatever negative effects or positive effects. Consumerism increase economy growth. More consumption requires more production, more production means more jobs and more incomein society, and more incomes means more consumption. This is a cycle which if managed properly can bring growth to economy. Twitchell said that This spending is being done by younger and younger consumers. While undoubtedly the biggest theme running through Frankenstein is the perils of playing god and how that can backfire, another large theme is parental neglect and irresponsibility which can also be found in again Jekyll and Hyde and 1984. Sadly parental neglect can be found throughout human history which again makes me think it could be a metaphor for something bigger. It could be how people always have a secret dark side; maybe it s that side of us which can be to blame for all the wrong things in society? Or maybe that s just another excuse to be the bad guy. Victor Frankenstein s quote can also be compared with a quote from Robert Louis Stevenson s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde narrated by Dr. Jekyll himself. In this next quote it shows again the total lack of responsibility that we first saw in Frankenstein. I hesitated long before I put this theory to the test of practice. I knew well that I risked death; for any drug that so potently controlled and shook the very fortress of identity, might, by the least scruple of an overdose or at the least inopportunity in the moment of exhibition, utterly blot out that immaterial tabernacle which I looked to it to change.
