2. Warcraft Stereotypes
World of Warcraft (WoW) is possibly one of the most long lasting and high rated
online games. Players from different parts of the globe play the game and connect
with players from other continents. All sharing the same goal for quality
entertainment and equally invested communication. While gaming communities have
become one of the most commonly shared activities it has brought its fair share of
stereotypes like every other group has. If anything though, the stereotype has not
deterred anyone from playing games it has only grown more popular as the years go
by. It did not discourage me, as I ve decided to experience this strange community
myself.

I think WoW shows a good example of equally needed communication between
gamers and the common goals amongst them. In their endeavors for entertainment
and enjoyment gamers have established discourse communities for the purpose of
winning their games. Each gamer has a specific reason for joining the gameplay but
they all share a common goal. To win. They learned that to win they must rely and
help one another on and off the battlefield (in the game) by communicating. When I
played with the guild I joined I was grateful for how nice they all were in their tips
and advice in playing the game. Communication show s the comradery between each

3. The Role of Women in The Stone Diaries Essay example
The Role of Women in The Stone Diaries
Gender inequities have existed since the beginning of time. The various roles
assigned to men and women in society have served to perpetuate differences that
even until the present have not been overcome. These gender differences are evident
in The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields. Initially the main character, Daisy Goodwill,
is a pathetic, weak woman whose only joy comes from appreciating the small things
in life. After a series of personal events, she changes dramatically and becomes a
stronger individual. Daisy s continual need for self reliance is fulfilled by the
changing society around her.
Daisy s initial character is anything but extraordinary. She is ordinary ... Show more

Shields suggests that in an ordinary life like Daisy s, a character s imagination can
offer redemption for her ordinariness (Fitzgerald 21). She explores the experiences
and inner lives of unremarkable, unnoticed people with careful detail (Sherman 49).
The society Daisy faces daily demands standards very different from those of
present day society. In the beginning of the novel, the role of women is confined to
that of housewives. Daisy lives in an era where women are expected to make the
best of things and not ask for much for themselves. She fulfills her duties as a
woman in this society by cooking, cleaning and presenting a good image of
herself. Daisy never knows her mother and has no real role models. She manages
to follow her guardian s example in certain aspects of how a woman should act.
Daisy s roles in society are mostly those of daughter of, wife of, and mother of. This
conveys Shields true message in the novel, that Human beings are defined as much
by the things that don t happen to them as by the things that do, and part of what
Shields is doing here is honouring the restricted life, declaring that attention must be
paid to the lives of women like Daisy (Fitzgerald 19). Daisy is not truly seen as an
individual until later in life.
Daisy s is a life formed by a string of small accidents, with a few conscious decisions
on her part
4. Positive Attitude
People say that a positive attitude is the key to success. My grandma always told
me that she had a negative attitude towards love. It seems strange I know but she
despised couples. She told me that she was jealous of other people, especially her
older siblings. Love was something she was afraid of because she didn t wantto get
broken up with. When she was about 16 she decided that if she got broken up with
that she would just shake it off and wait for the right person to come along. She said
there was no point in having a negative attitude towards something so comforting.
When she was 17, she met my grandpa. They fell in loveand when they were 18 they
got married. If you have a positive attitude, then you can make more friends, have
better job interviews, and learn to cope with rejection from others.
First and foremost, making friends is easier with a positive attitude. In other
words, if someone approaches you and you act mean and hateful then they won t
want to talk to you. I always struggled with making friends. I never know the right
words to say. Making friends is something most people can do because they have
done it since they were little. Whenever we go on our band trips, my friends
always want to talk to the other bands. When we go over to them, I stand there
awkwardly while they start conversations. I always worry that I will say something
and offend someone. Since we first started band I ve gotten a lot better at talking to
people. All it took was me

The President, Congress and Representations
The legislative body, our Congress, is responsible for making laws that benefit the
people. The four kinds of representations include: symbolic representation, policy
representation, allocated representation and casework all of which are set to insure
that the American citizens are being protected from a tyrannical government.
Checks and balances demonstrate that each body of government is able to check or
ensure that each branch is supplied equal power. Therefore congress can regulate
and check the executive branch. We learn how a bill can become vetoed or signed
when it is passed to the president and then to both houses of Congress who must
gain a full two third majority vote to override a presidential veto. Political parties
that vote on laws are passed based on the most dominant party in each house. This is
because of the concept that majority rules, the party with the most seats in the house
of congress will get the most votes. In chapter eight we discuss that presidents want
to retire their presidential duties leaving a great legacy, but often times they do make
promises that they cannot keep not because they do not want to make everyone
happy but because politics gets in the way and not all things and everyone in politics

6. St Michael Research Paper
The Holy Archangel Michael is one of the most celebrated of the Angels and
bodiless powers. According to Holy Scripture and tradition, he has interceded for
humanity multiple times and continues to serve as the Defender of the Faith. St
Michael is most often invoked for protection from invasion by enemies and from
civil war, and for the defeat of adversaries on the field of battle.
The name Michael means like unto God or Who is like unto God?
The Lord appointed the Holy Archangel Michael, the faithful servitor of God, as
Chief Commander. He cast down from Heaven the arrogantly proud Lucifer and the
other fallen spirits when they rebelled against God. Michael summoned the ranks of

Through him the power of the Lord was made manifest, annihilating the Egyptians
and Pharaoh who were in pursuit of the Israelites. The Archangel Michael defended
Israel in all its misfortunes.
He appeared to Joshua, Son of Navi, and revealed the will of the Lord at the taking
of Jericho (Josh 5:13 16). The power of the great Chief Commander of God was
manifest in the annihilation of the 185 thousand soldiers of the Assyrian emperor
Sennacherib (4/2 Kings 19:35); also in the smiting of the impious leader Heliodorus
(2 Macc. 3: 24 26); and in the protection of the Three Holy Youths: Ananias, Azarias
and Misail, thrown into the fiery furnace for their refusal to worship an idol (Dan
3:22 25).
Through the will of God, the Chief Commander Michael transported the Prophet
Habbakuk , from Judea to Babylon, to give food to Daniel in the lions den (Dan.
14:33 37).
The Archangel Michael disputed with the devil over the body of the holy Prophet
Moses (Jude 1:9).

man, cast into the sea by robbers with a stone about his neck on the shores of Mt
Athos. This story is found in the Athonite Paterikon, and in the Life of St Neophytus

9. Metaphysical Poetry
Metaphysical Poetry: Much More Than Wit The two main views of metaphysical
poetry, as composed by poets A.E. Housman and T.S. Eliot, are vastly different.
Eliot s view of metaphysical poetry is a very positive and respectful one. He admires
the uniqueness of the metaphysical poets when he describes them as reflective poets
as opposed to merely intellectual ones. Eliot says they have the ability to feel their
thought as immediately as the odor of a rose, compared to the strictly thought driven
traditional poetryof lyrical poets. Housman s view is significantly more harsh and
critical. In reference to metaphysical poetry, he says that poetry, as a label for this
particular commodity, is not appropriate. According to Housman,... Show more

An interesting shift, as well as an example of assonance, is seen when the speaker
says, but oh, to no end (Line 6). In this moment of lament, the speaker begins to
seem pathetic and his other commands to God begin to seem more like emotional
begging. He is troubled that his reason [...] proves weak and untrue (Lines 7 8). In
line 7, the concept of reason is personified as an ambassador to the town when the
speaker says, Reason, your viceroy in me, me [...] This line contains anadiplosis,
followed by an example of consonance found in the phrase, should defend, / but is
captiv d. Line 8 describes this ambassador of reason as being held captive by sin. In
line 9, the poem becomes more personal when the speaker expresses his overall
feelings toward God by saying, Yet dearly I love you, and would be loved fain. The
speaker uses consonance to show he knows his love is requited. However, he feels
he cannot accept God s gift of love because he is betroth d unto [God s] enemy

10. Predicaments Caused by Affirmative Action
College, one of the first and most important milestones individuals achieve. Many
students strive to make excellent grades, excel in varsity sports, and get involved in
extracurricular activities, solely to stand out from the crowd. Every determining
factor in college admissions is up to the individual, except for one, race. A vast
amount of students find this factor controversial. Colleges are accepting and denying
students admission based on a factor that students have no control over. This system
of admission has been implemented by the government in 1961. The system was
created due to the colossal amount of discriminationminorities have faced in the past,
it s called Affirmative Action. Affirmative Actions purpose was to create a diverse
environment, which meant, sometimes turning down the best individual for the job.
At the time, this was necessary, but now, not so much. Affirmative Action was
crucial for minorities to gain financial stability after being oppressed for decades, but
in modern society, there has to be a system to assure the best individual for the job.
Affirmative Action can cause a predicament for society in a whole. A highly qualified
student can be denied admission from their first choice college, due to their race.
They can be subjected to Affirmative Action after they graduate also. When the
individual is looking to start up their career, Affirmative Action can be a factor that
denies them from obtaining that position.

11. How Did The Influence Classical Greek Art
The Influence of Classical Greek Art throughout the Eras The forms and styles of
Classical Greek art were the essential backbone of artwork and have drawn
inspiration for artists through various periods of art ranging from the beginning of
the Roman Empire to present day art. The Classical Greek sculptures were
typically composed of marble and the body forms had a much idealized style;
where the forms represented ideal body types. One of the most popular sculpture
forms during the Classical Greek art period during 600 to 300 BCE, was the male
nude sculptures. The male nude sculptures represented the ideal male figure during
the earlier centuries. One of the most popular male nude sculptures that represent
Classical Art is the marble sculpture of Doryphorus (450 440 BCE) by Polykleitos.

However, the Roman artists contributed their own additions to Greek art. Instead
of taking an idealized approach when completing works of art, the Roman s used
the style of verism. The concept of verism was to make their artwork as realistic
and similar to human forms as possible, hence why it was known as the warts and
all style. During the 1st Century, a marble sculpture of Augustus of Primaporta
was made which displayed the ruler in a powerful stance as a young leader. In
comparison to the Greek sculpture of Doryphorus, both marble statues display
movement; however the Roman sculpture had the purpose of displaying power and
not looking as relaxed and idealistic as the Greek sculpture. Augustus hand is raised
in the sculpture and he is wearing a chest plate that displays images of his victories
as a leader. The sculpture acted as propaganda due to the idealization of the leader
and depicting him during his prime achievements as a
12. The Colossus Of Latin America
The United States has been a heavily involved in Latin American affairs for a long
time, and there is great controversy surrounding how good of a neighbor we have
been. As the Colossus of the North , this country holds enormous power. The
question is; have we used our power for good or for evil? At times, we have been
generous to Latin American countries. We returned the Panama Canal to the
Panamanians and created free trade with Mexico through NAFTA. However, the
negative impact we have had outweighs the good. Time after time, the United States
has put dictators into Latin American countries out of the fear of growing
communism. We have meddled, taken the situations of our neighbors into our own
hands with force, and vilified them for situations like the drug trade dilemma that are
partially at the fault of the United States. Due to the selfish overstepping upon Latin
American governments, our discrimination and blame upon immigrants and
foreigners as well as patronizing actions like the Cuban embargo and the Roosevelt
Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, the Colossus of the North has historically been a
poor neighbor to Latin American countries. During the Cold War Era, anti communist
countries like the United States took drastic measures to eliminate communism.
Tension spread worldwide and a lot of violence sprung from the feud between
communist and anti communist parties. Many Latin American countries in this time
were under a communistic rule and the United States did
13. Reflection On Team Work
This essay will reflect on my experience during an activity which required team
work and leadership. I will be using Gibbs Reflective Cycle (Reid, 1994) to support
my structure and to help me reflect further into my experience. This activity was
carried out in Todd s Leap (an outdoor activity centre); my team and I were required
to pass a golf ballthrough pipes across 40m to a bucket at the end with a time limit
of 10 minutes. Within my team there were 12 people and each person had a 1m
pipe. The team and I had to piece the pipes together so that the ball could fall
through without falling to the floor; if the ball fell we then had to begin again. This
activity was made competitive as we were competing against another team who were
carrying out the same activity.
As a team leader it was my role to ensure everyone was in the correct place and were
communicating effectively. This was a difficult activity and resulted in our team
dropping the ball numerous amount of times. The opposing team had went into the
lead as they had got the hang of where they had to place their pipes and therefore had
potted 9 balls in while we only potted 2. I noticed a few minutes before the time ran
out that my team where not holding their pipes at the correct height resulting in the
ball falling to the floor which meant we had to start over again. I re evaluated the
situation and quickly improved our positioning; this then resulted in 5 more balls
being potted. Unfortunately by the time we began to catch up, it was too late and the
bell rang to indicate time up. The consequence of this was that our team came second
with 7 balls while the other team won the competition with a total of 9 balls.
At the beginning we were put into groups where I was elected as team leader. I
was quite nervous due to the fact I did not know anyone within my group.
However, I quickly started to focus on the activity at hand and was excited to begin;
considering I am an extremely competitive person. During the experience I felt
determined to establish a perfect technique to result in the highest amount of balls
being potted in the bucket. Once the opposing team were in the lead I begin to feel
nervous as I was afraid of losing. I was also frustrated that

Sometimes it is the people no one imagines anything of who do things that no one can

these words when speaking to Joan Clark, played by Keira Knightley, about joining
the Bletchley Park researchers in Southern England. Throughout The Imitation Game,
this same string of words is said two other times. The quote captures a reoccurring
theme portrayed within the movie. Defying adversity is the overall theme, and one
that is revealed in many aspects in the movie. The Imitation Game was directed by
Morten Tyldum in 2014, and it reveals the story of Alan Turing, a British

German Enigma code during World War II. Through the film, Tyldum magnifies

16. The Shortcomings To Lose The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War ended without a specific winner on the battlefield. Although there
was no military victory it does not mean the war ended with no clear victor. North
Vietnam are considered the winners of the war since Communism was never
overthrown in Vietnam. The United States and South Vietnam lost the Vietnam
War
due to their military policies, The plethora of advantages the North Vietnamese had,
and the shortcomings of the United States government to win over the hearts and
minds of the South Vietnamese people.
The United States military policy was a major reason they lost the war. The United
States army heavily relied on bombs throughout the war. They believed the result of
the bombs would lower Viet Cong morale to the point of surrendering. This idea of
making them lose support backfired. Although Vietnam was the most heavily
bombed country in any war, it led to an increase support for North Vietnam (Air
War). One reason the bombings created disagreement to the United States war cause
was due to the high number of Vietnamese civilians killed. According to Professor
Appy s presentation Air War , more civilians were killed due to the air was than the
troops in South Vietnam. The numbers about where the bombs were dropped also
created a lot of hostility towards the United States (Air War).
Most of the bombs the United States used during the Vietnam war was dropped on
South Vietnam. Out of the 8 million tons of bombs dropped, half of those bombs
were dropped on South

where the internet has emerged as the dominant medium the field of journalism has
experienced colossal growth, development, and evolvement. The changes caused by
the gradual introduction of new and more efficient mediums consistently affected
journalismand the way journalists delivered content to the public.
Prior to the concept of broadcasting, newspapers were the primary means of

usually on a local or regional level. In the times of the Civil War newspapers were
used to spread news through out connected areas, in that time being the North and the

With the ability to access content at any time and filter through content that you want
at your own pace things were again changed dramatically. Journalists and all outlets of
the media were forced to adapt to the changes brought on by the internet. Eventually
as internet usage skyrocketed and all outlets of the media have in some way
integrate into the internet. The popularity of the internet flipped the journalistic
world upside down, and today anyone with their own blog can report to people on
a wide scale just the same as newspapers, television, and radio. In the modern day
world by linking together with satellite and internet communication, the world has
finally been able to come together as one global community. The capabilities the
internet has brought now allows journalists to reach people from all over the globe,
which is a great change from the times of the Civil War and news being spread and
created on a local and regional basis.
In conclusion, it is important to consider that with each advancement in
communication beginning with printed text and then to radio and television and then
internet, communication throughout the world at large has increased dramatically.
Throughout these advancements journalism has evolved and has remained an
important part of our society.

Hitler s rise to power was cemented on August 2nd 1934 after the death of President
Hindenburg, already holding the title of chancellor; he took over the presidency and
became the FГјhrer, the tyrannical leader of Germany. Hitler s rise to power was
only possible as a result of many issues within Germany at the time. The Great
Depression, begun by withdrawal of loans by the US, brought out desperation in
people not wanting to see the economic and social hardship seen not long prior during
hyperinflation. Germans turned to extremists political parties to solve the crisis. The

The Treaty stripped Germany of land, demanded payments of reparations, restricted
their military and left them utterly humiliated. Many Germans, most notably Hitler
believed Germany had not lost WW1 but were in fact betrayed by civilians on the
home front. They believed they had been stabbed in the back by the German
Government Leaders who signed the Treaty, nicknamed the November Criminals.
Hitler used this stab in the back myth as fuel for propaganda campaigns against Jews
and communists and to convince Germans the Weimar Government was a morass of
corruption, degeneracy and national humiliation. Historian K J Mason believes the
biggest impact of the Treaty was the long term legacy of bitterness it brought to
Germany, a previously proud nation rather than the immediate economic desperation
it brought. The Treaty of Versailles laid a foundation for Hitler to make promises on.
His promise to abolish the Treaty and to restore the German society and economy
were a bid to gain the trust of the nation. The extremist parties, both communists and
the Nazis benefitted immensely from the lack of faith in the Weimar Republic
brought about by the signing of the treaty but Hitler had a stronger grip on how to

A more modern version of the bubble is known as Black Thursday. During little
more than a year period from 1928 to 1929 the market experienced unprecedented
growth, more than that of the prior five years combined. There was a speculative
market and everyone was getting in. Stocks were being bought on margin, thus
exemplifying the crazes. Furthermore, the investment pool strategy became
popular around this time. This involved a group of traders banding together to
manipulate a stock. The process entailed a pool manager who would buy large
portions of stock over a period of time. The pool manager would recruit a stock s
specialist on the exchange floor. The specialist had excess to all the buy and sell
prices above and below the current market price. Then the pool members would
trade among themselves at slightly higher prices, therefore manipulating the stock
price. It gave the appearance that the stocks had a lot of activity and rising prices.
Also, the media would play a part as pool managers would tell of ground breaking
news and exciting new developments Once the public saw the activity they jumped
in thinking this was a hot stock. Then the public did all the buying and the pool did
the selling. Thus the pool was rewarded significant profits. This manipulation of stock

The question of being is the darkest in all philosophy. So concluded William James in
thinking about that most basic of riddles: how did something come from nothing?
The question infuriates, James realized, because it demands an explanation while
denying the very possibility of explanation. From nothing to being there is no logical
bridge, he wrote. In science, explanations are built of cause and effect. But if nothing

The ancient Greeks suggested that empty space is filled with substance a plenum,
an ether. Aristotle conceived of the ether as an unchanging fifth element, more
perfect and heavenly in its invariance than earth, air, fire, or water. True
nothingness was at odds with Aristotle s physics, which said that bodies rise up or
fall down as dictated by their rightful place in the natural order of things.
Nothingness, however, would be perfectly symmetric it would look the same from
every angle rendering absolute spatial directions like up and down utterly
meaningless. An ether, Aristotle figured, could serve as a kind of cosmic compass,
an ultimate reference frame against which all motion could be measured. For those
who abhorred a vacuum, the ether banished every last trace of it. The ancient ether
stuck around for millennia until it was re imagined in the late 19th century by
physicists like James Clerk Maxwell, who discovered that light behaves as a wave
that always travels at a particular speed. What was waving, and speed relative to
what? The ether was a handy answer, providing both a medium for light waves to
travel through, and, as Aristotle originally imagined, a reference frame against which

On the 10th of July 1985, the Greenpeace ship, the Rainbow Warrior was anchored at
Marsden wharf in Auckland New Zealand. Ready to confront French nuclear testing

In an attempt to counteract the protests and campaigning of the flagship that
represented New Zealand s movement against nuclear testing in the Pacific, France
bombed and sunk the Greenpeace vessel the Rainbow Warrior. The bombing simply
done to prolong threats against France s nuclear testing in the pacific, and to allow
for their nuclear testing to run smoothly without protest. Without Greenpeace protest,
attention to France s nuclear testing would be minimised and allow for them to
continue without dispute.
Operation Satanique, code name for the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior, used by the
french foreign intelligence services, was the first state terrorism act on New Zealand

By arriving to New Zealand on yacht, the Ouvea crew were able to illegally bring
into New Zealand the two limpet mines used to sink the Rainbow Warrior. In diving

24. Essay The Satire of Blazing Saddles
The Satire of Blazing Saddles
Blazing Saddles, a Mel Brooks film, is a perfect example of satire. The main object
of the movie is to make fun of the western genre of films. Mel Brooks is notorious
for his satires of many different films and film genres, and Blazing Saddles follows
true to form. Many of the film s ideas and problems are common in most westerns,
although Mel Brooks has added a twist. In addition, the movie pokes fun at a more
modern theme, racism.
Many westerns contain some of the same elements. For instance, almost every
western ever made involves a sheriff. He is usually the peace keeper of a small town
overrun by outlaws and cowboys, which he eventually chases out of town or kills.
Another element of westerns is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
African Americans usually do not have major roles in westerns. Next, he is
persuaded to save a town; even though, the citizens hate him. An example of this,
is when he greets an elderly woman, she replies, Up yours, nigger, which illustrates
her dislike of the new black sheriff. In most westerns, the sheriff is the favored
citizen everyone loves, except the outlaws. An example of this is in the film is that
the townsfolk automatically remove their hats and bow their heads when someone
mentions the name Randolph Scott, a favorite western sheriff. Whenever Bart, the
sheriff, is mentioned the townsfolk cringe. Furthermore, the movie includes a
gunslinger. He is stereotypical, except for the twist that he is old and an alcoholic,
rather than a cocky young cowboy. The sheriff finds him in a jail cell, and recruits
him as a sidekick. In addition, the railroad is present throughout Blazing Saddles.
The sheriff starts the movie as a railroad worker, before becoming the sheriff of
Rock Ridge. In addition, the villain is the head of the railroad, which motivates him
to destroy the small town. He needs the land to lay more tracks, which is typical of a
power hungry villain. The elements of westerns are represented in a zany way during
the movie.
The villains are also poked fun at during Blazing Saddles. His name is Hedey Lamar,
but everyone refers to him as Hedley, which infuriates him. Typically, villains are not

Deadly Debris Humans tend to think of space as infinite, that is true as far as we
can tell, however the space around Earth is not infinite. After the Space race began
in the late 1950 s countries began sending satellites into space for various purposes.
Today these Satellites are very important to everyday life, but there is a looming
problem that has often been overlooked. Low Earth orbit, where most satellites and
spacecraft are located is filled with the remains of many old and decaying
satellites. Space debris is very dangerous for any human or structure in space and
could eventually make low Earth orbit too hazardous to ever use again. The Sci Fi
paper I am currently working on is a story about a group of astronauts in the near
future who are returning from mining an asteroid. In this story it is much like the
moon landings in that people were very intrigued at first but have lost interest now.
These are just routine missions that hardly anyone knows or cares about. This all
changes however when two satellites in high orbit on Earth collide, one being a
communication satellite with the astronauts. The unaware astronauts, now returning
to Earth, have no idea what is hurtling toward them at 15,000 miles an hour. NASA is
unable to reestablish communication quickly enough and the craft is hit. Now adrift
in space the astronauts struggle to survive in the most hostile environment for
humans. There are over five hundred

Chocolat and book Things Fall Apart showcase individualism falters when given the
ability to conform. The characters in both stories seem content on conforming, to

that individualism falters when given the ability to conform appears multiple times.

Anouk enters a heavily Catholic village with the aspiration of meeting new

and not worship like the rest of the villagers. Anouk befriends her classmates, but
soon that turns out to make her life a lot harder. Her classmates fill her thoughts
and ideas from the conversations of their parents. Most of the kids parents bash
Anouk s mother due to her individualist lifestyle. During a scene, Anouk comes
home crying asking why can t you be like normal parents? This shows how badly
Anouk just wants to live a normal childhood. She wants the ability to fit in and just
enjoy her childhood, by making friends and not worrying about drama or gossip.
She becomes frustrated when she realize her mother does not fit the stereotype the
town has in place. The idea the town has an unwritten rule that everyone must have
a spouse, and everyone must go to church. Those that don t follow this rule
sacrifice a lot to ensure others do not look down upon them. This principle adheres
to Josephine for the first part of the movie. She feels terrified to leave her husband,
who abuses her. She feels he would attack her due to the idea that the village would
mock for her leaving him. Josephine stays with him, slowing losing her
individualism. She steals things to make up for the abuse at home.
28. Essay On Pia
Many reports have clearly demonstrated the roles of phytohormones in Pi signaling
pathways (LГіpez Bucio et al., 2005; Nacry et al., 2005). Previous work has shown
that Pi starvation in plants caused a reduction in Gibberellic Acid (GA) levels and
accumulation of DELLA proteins. DELLA mediated signaling contributes to
certain aspects of Pi deficiency responses in roots, i.e. suppression of primary root
growth and raise of root hairs (C. Jiang, Gao, Liao, Harberd, Fu, 2007). Auxin is
known to control GA mediated repression of two growth repressor DELLA proteins
known as RGA and GAI (Fu Harberd, 2003). Furthermore, it was shown that ethylene
and strigolactone biosynthesis is induced in response to Pi deficiency (Nagarajan

In higher plants, four Pi transporter (Pht) families have been characterized (Pht1
Pht4) (B. Guo et al., 2008; Lin, Lin, Chiou, 2009; Nussaume et al., 2011; Poirier
Bucher, 2002; Versaw Harrison, 2002). Many members of the Pht1 family play
important roles in Pi acquisition from soil and root to shoot translocation of Pi
(Nussaume et al., 2011). The single Pht2 family member, Pht2;1, is a low affinity
Pi transporter localized to the chloroplast envelope where it plays an important role
in photosynthetic activity (Rausch, Zimmermann, Amrhein, Bucher, 2004; Versaw
Harrison, 2002). The Pht3 family is comprised of mitochondrial localized
transporters to provide Pi for the oxidative phosphorylation of ADP to ATP
(Nakamori et al., 2002; Poirier Bucher, 2002). Pht4 transporters are low affinity
transporters that localize to plastids and Golgi (B. Guo et al., 2008). The cooperation
among the four Pht families allows plants to maintain Pi homeostasis (Figure 3).
Regulatory components involved in Pi signaling and Pi homeostasis in plants Plants
have evolved to react to fluctuations of Pi levels by means of complex responses that
tightly control intercellular Pi levels. These responses are initiated and modulated by
elaborate signaling networks that maintain Pi homeostasis via global

In this type of organization can be observed few characteristics of Weber s theory
such as a clear cut division of labor, high level of specialization and the hierarchical
authority applies to offices and positions of the organization.
To coordinate and control activities in this type of organization, it is configured by
two features: horizontal and vertical differentiation. In horizontal differentiation Lego
has been grouped by functions (Finance, Sales, Human Resources, Purchase
departments etc.). But in lower levels it has been grouped by product (PMT1, PMT2,

Vertical differentiation shows that this company has good span of control, latter leads

This organization has a lot of hierarchical levels, to control all their actions in this

According to the article Child Vehicular Stroke Fact Sheet from KidsAndCars.org,
The average number of U.S. child vehicular heat stroke deaths is 37 per year. That is
one death of a child every nine days. Although, some individuals may or may not
have unintentionally left their children in the car. A majority of parents that left their
child in the vehicleunknowingly did it. However, there is a small percentage of
parents that knowingly left their child unattended in the vehicle. In some cases,
the child even entered the vehicle on their own without the parent or caregiver
noticing in time. Statistics of child vehicular heat stroke deaths reveal that 54.25%
of parents unknowingly left their child in the vehicle, 11.58% knowingly left their
child in the vehicle, and 33.58% of the children entered the vehicle by themselves
without parents or caregivers noticing in a reasonable amount of time (Child
Vehicular Heat Stroke). Some individuals, usually non parents, believe that it is
completely absurd to forget a child is in the vehicle. However, the most dangerous
mistake a parent or caregiver can make is to think leaving a child alone in a
vehicle could never happen to them or their family (Child Vehicular Heat Stroke).
A heat stroke can be extremely lethal to young children if it is not recognized and

32. Essay on Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad
Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad enthralls readers with its valiant heroes who fight for the glory of
Greece. The Iliad, however, is not just a story of war; it is also a story of
individuals. Through the characters words and actions, Homer paints portraits of
petulant Achilles and vain Agamemnon, doomed Paris and Helen, loyal Patroclus,
tragic Priam, versatile Odysseus, and the whole cast of Gods. Ironically, the most
complete character in the epic is Hector, enemy hero, and Prince of Troy. Hector is in
many ways the ideal Homeric man: he is a man of compassion and piety, a man of
integrity and bravery, a man who loves his family, and above all, a man who

Had Agamemnon demonstrated the same sort of compassion towards the supplicant
Chryses, the Greeks would have been spared the wrath of Apollo. Hector s
compassion and his respect for the gods, engenders the trust and respect of his
people, and makes him an ideal leader.
Hector continues on to the palace, where he is embraced by his mother Hecuba,
who offers him wine with which to refresh himself and to honor the Gods. Hector
politely answers, Mother, not now I d lose my nerve for war. And I d be ashamed
to pour a glistening cup to Zeus with unwashed hands. I m splattered with blood
and filth how could I pray to the lord of storm and lightning? (VI, 179 183). He then
recommends that his mother go with offerings to Athena s shrine to make sacrifices
for the success of the Trojans. Hector s respectful address to his mother, his humility
before the Gods and his understanding of the appropriate forms of supplication, stand
in sharp contrast to Achilles earlier whining and self serving demands made to
Thetis. Once again, in the matter of piety as well as compassion, Hector is the
superior man.
Nowhere in the Iliad is Hector s superiority more obvious than when he is
contrasted with his brother Paris, the man who bears the sole responsibility for the
chaos and terror that engulfs Troy. Hector finds Paris polishing (and) fondling his
splendid battle gear, his shield and breastplate, turning over and over his long curved
bow (VI, 243 245).
33. Organic Foods And Organic Food Essay
Organic food is one of the fast growing markets in the world. Only in the U.S.,
retail sales of organic foods were $6.2 billion in 2015: California made up the
biggest part of the country s organic food market, with $2.436 billion of total sales;
Colorado was on the ninth place with $155 million of total sales ( 2015 Certified
Organic Survey 9). Today, organic products are available in almost every
conventional grocery store and often have a higher price over conventional products.
In fact, the majority of consumers believe that organic products do not contain
pesticides or antibiotics, and they are better for health and the environment. Because
the U.S. Department of Agriculture regulates the use of the Organic and USDA
Organic labels, it is a primary driver of the marketing success of organic products in
the U.S. Misunderstanding of the principles and practices of organic farming, labels
and quality of organic food, values and motivations of consumers, have made many
debates in our society.
The Organic Foods Production Act of 1990 established uniform national standards
for foods labeled as organic . Now, the label organic is used to show that food or

Boorstin
Blood for Blood The exchange of opinions is not always a pleasant experience.
Conventionally, such exchanges lead to debates and arguments. Although the side
with more supporters may seem morally correct, the minority is the component of
change, risking everything to push their ideas through, even if it results in violence.
In an excerpt from The Decline of Radicalism, Daniel J. Boorstin emphasizes the
dichotomy between dissent and disagreement. According to Boorstin, disagreement
expresses a differing opinion that may promote debate, whereas dissenting places the
dissenters into the minority. Boorstin also claims that disagreement is beneficial to
democracy, while dissension is cancerous. Boorstin s assertion is heavily flawed;

36. The Conference Of The Birds And Dante Alighieri s Inferno
The overall purpose of The Conference of the Birds and Dante Alighieri s Inferno
was to motivate and inspire the specific demographic within their audiences who
already believed in and practiced the texts respective denominations to continue on
with their spiritual journeys. This is demonstrated by the main protagonists
spiritual journeys, the consequences of sin they both experience and witness, as
well as how they relate to the audience. This topic is significant due to the fact that
the two texts analyzed are examples of religious propaganda. The texts might also
prove to be important and valuable to those that practice either of the two discussed
religions, as the allegories could be used as a reminder of why spiritual journeys
exist and how they can impact those who embark on them. One could easily make a
case that this is the true reason why these were written through close analyzation of
the text. The journeys depicted in the texts show the personal, spiritual growth and
shift within the two main characters outlook on God in the selected texts. This
persuades believers of these two religions to continue on spiritual journeys of their
own because they too are prone to benefit from spiritual growth and development.
This is supported by quotes such as, So may God grant you, reader, the benefit from
reading of my poem... (CantoXX, 457). Although similar in the fact that both their
main characters grow and experience change, it is necessary to first understand that

claustrophobic he feels in this life. Then he begins to address his mother, and

everything was beginning to looking up but he believes that what will come to
him will come to him because he took another life. I m just a poor boy from a poor
family nobody loves me...spare him his life from this monstrosity. I believe that
this is stressing that he was making rather poor decisions and, seeing as this comes
from the jury of the story, I think what he s trying to say is I made a mistake, and
there s really nothing I can do about it. Then he gets a little bit bitter and talks
about how they all think that they can sneer at him and make him bitter but he s
not going to let that happen to himself. In the end, he just explains how whether he
is considered innocent or guilty, it does not matter either way because he knows
what he did to himself. 2. Thriller by Michael Jackson This story is told and they

38. Sparrows Critical Analysis
Sparrows (1926), directed by William Beaudine and starring Mary Pickford, has
reviews that focus on its non story elements as well, praising the spectacle of the
film over its narrative. Like the aforementioned Keaton films, this film has a
relatively simple plot. A group of kidnapped orphans tries to escape their evil captor,
led by the oldest of the orphans, who Mary Pickfordportrays. The climax of the filmis
the extended escape scene, which features the children crawling along a broken
tree branch above a swamp full of hungry alligators. Again, like the reviews of the
Keaton films, critics considered the story of this film lackluster, as the New York
Times paper released on September 20th, 1926,4 states: Miss Pickford s excellent
portrayal of the little mother leaves only the desire for a more plausible story. This
same reviewer states: As this film was produced before the plot, it is presumed
that the exciting experience had nothing to do with the film s story, as well as
criticisms such as the continuity is vague in spots. Here again we see the story
being criticized, while the excitement of a chase scene over alligators is the main
attraction the film offers. One reviewer for Variety even went so far to say: The truth
is the production is one of the few duds put out for Mary Pickford. Of course, the star
s name is more or less failure proof. 5 Despite these reviews, which emphasize the
film s lack of story, Sparrows still did well in the US box office,

COST MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING
ANSWER 1.1
a)DIRECT COSTS: A direct cost is defined as the price that can be directly applied
to production of goods. The direct cost classifies direct material, direct labour and
manufacturing overheads. The direct cost is related to labour, raw material and
expenses related to the production of goods. Direct cost is simply as the cost that is
applied directly to the product. For example wages of full time and part time staff.
b)INDIRECT COSTS: Indirect cost can be defined as the cost which cannot be
directly applied to the product. In simple words any cost apart from direct material,
direct labour and manufacturing overheads is considered as indirect cost. For
example insurance of company building, wages of cleaners working in the company
premises etc.
c)FIXED COSTS: A fixed costis referred to a cost which doesn t changes with
circumstances. If there is a fixed cost of any product or service one has to pay the
cost. For example, the rent of the house is fixed that has to be paid every week, no
changes are acceptable. For example salary of full time staff.
d)VARIABLE COSTS: A variable cost is a changing cost. In case of any changes the
cost of the product changes. For example, the cost paid to a casual worker may vary.

Politics Cultures of Africa
Ever since British geologists first discovered diamonds in Sierra Leone s jungles in
the 1930 s, diamonds have been a key factor in the bloody conflict that has ravaged
this small West African country. In his novel, Blood Diamonds, Greg Campbell
captures the heart wrenching story of one man s encounter with the Revolutionary
United Front (RUF), a rebel group in Sierra Leone, infamous for their brutal tactics of
mass rape, torture, looting, and excruciations. But their signature and most
documented form of persecution amputation:
Ismael Dalramy lost his hands in 1999 with two quick blows of an ax. He didn

Making up about 4 to 5 percent of the global output. (xxiii)
The world s biggest diamond mining and marketing company, De Beers
Consolidated Mines of South Africa, announced in February 2000, that it will no
longer buy any diamonds sourced from a region controlled by an armed group
opposed to the legitimate authority in a country (http://web.amnesty.org). According
to a report by Partnership Africa Canada (P.A.C.), upwards of 50,000 [have been]
killed, half the population displaced, and more than two thirds of its already severely
limited infrastructure destroyed. Meanwhile, the underground trade of illicit
diamonds is booming. Conflict diamonds are valued between 4 percent and 15
percent of the world total and generate annual trade revenues of $7.5 billion
(Johnson).
According to De Beers s, conflict diamonds are minded or stolen by rebels who are
in opposition to the legitimate government of a country (Campbell 127). With this
definition of conflict diamonds , DeBeers has no only proved itself with linguistic
maneuverability but trade maneuverability as well. It is no secret that the industry,
after all, is bigger than the company alone and in fact is critical to the economies of
at least four nations. (Campbell 127) DeBeers has taken steps to ensure that some of
their diamonds were conflict free with the demand for action so apparent. DeBeers
first step in the right direction resulted in a devastating blow to earnings, a net loss
42. Bath Bomb Surface Area
Discussion The results show, if more of the bath bomb surface area is exposed ,the
volume of the balloon is bigger, thus supporting hypothesis that the more crushed
the bath bombs is (more surface is exposed), the larger the circumference of the
balloon is. Graph one agrees with the hypothesis and shows an increase in the
balloons volume, as more of the bath bombs surface area is exposed. The result
show that if there is less of the bath bomb surface area is exposed, the volume of
the balloon will be smaller. Table one shows a 75mL difference between the balloon
with the least surface area exposed and the balloon with most surface area. There are
several random errors that were apparent in this experiment. An error that could affect
the result
43. Jumping Frog
Based on Mark Twain s comparisons of a comic versus humorous story, The
Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, is Twain s most famous humorous
story. How to Tell a Story by Mark Twain is clearly shown in this jumping frog
story and abides by the rules he has set forth according to the countless expert
storytellers he has heard from by word of mouth. Today we will explore what
makes the jumping frog story a humorous one rather an a witty one and explain
how Twain accomplished what he did. From the subject of telling a story gravely ,
how one tells a nub , and how it contrasts to a comical story. The secret is being
expressionless. Twain mention that in order to master a humorous story, it must be
told gravely. Well, what does that exactly mean? In the first few paragraphs we can
see how our author presents Simon Wheeler as seemingly to have an impartialness,
neutrality, yet true genuineness about him as he tells the story. To the author, nothing
seemed ridiculous to him no matter how crazy the story progressed. That is exactly
what gravely means. When a person builds up a story as a bland, ordinary thing
although it is evidently the contrary, it becomes the most comedic tale, and that is
what Twain takes advantage of in Wheeler s personality, whether he realizes it or not.
It takes a seasoned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything behind the so called or nub is told with neutral tone, but when it is time
for the nub, you must disregard the very importance of it and treat it just like when
your mom tells you, Get off your phone. Twain does this exactly and makes you
eventually realize that the story Wheeler presented was useless; it was windy and
led nowhere because the story was not even about Rev. Leonidas W. Smiley, but
about Jim Smiley! Twain has you completely absorbed in the story that you have to
notice the trap and acknowledge his fantastic
44. Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant
Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water
to its surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants
in wastewater from household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional
units. Processes include physical, chemical and biological manipulation of
contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body for consumption. There
are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of which have
separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up
with recycled potable water.
First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where
heavy solids settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and
lighter solids float to the top. Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with
washer compactors that remove a majority of non fine solid material waste. Other
airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine screens as also used to capture the
finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole bar screens. They can
often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much sold
material waste before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to
capture plastics that come into the system.
Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is
suspended between the top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the
use of
45. Theatre Fraud Essay
More akin to the avant garde than traditional musical theatre, Experimental Music
Theatre was created by the assimilation of the musical and theatrical revolts of the
early 20th century and the incorporation of the technological advancements of
stagecraft, set design, machinery, lighting, audio, and video. Its development was
aided by a variety of composers, writers, artists, and designers associated with art
forms such as films, traditional theatre, Futurism, Dadaism, atonality, and many more.
The futurist movement that sprang up around 1910 rejected musical traditions,
embraced experimental sounds derived from machinery, and was responsible for the
first performances devoted to sound and percussion. Futurists, like todays

Brecht wanted to stimulate a reaction rather than encourage the kind of passive
acquiescence found in the old bourgeois theatre. By alienating spectators from the
emotional content of a play he believed they were free to focus on dramatic action
instead. To prevent emotional investment, Brecht s characters would step outside
their roles and break the fourth wall, and he would often cut scenes short, never
allowing them to reach an emotional peak. His use of the blank screen over the
traditional painted backdrop was representative of a universal setting, and any
conventional theatrical elements were used ironically.
Brecht s works, such as The Threepenny Opera (1928), are characterized by social
issues, surreal theatrical forms, and are often raw in style and execution. The
musical treatment is usually crude, bitter, and vulgar. His portrayals of good and
evil are usually askew, and concepts such as goodness and heroism are usually seen
as tragic
