Graphic Design Essay Topics
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Graphic Design Essay Topics" can be both challenging and
rewarding. The difficulty lies in the vastness of the field and the need to choose a specific aspect
or theme to explore. Graphic design encompasses a wide array of topics, ranging from the history
of design movements to the latest trends in digital design. Selecting a focused and engaging
topic is crucial, as it sets the tone for the entire essay.
Additionally, delving into the world of graphic design requires a good understanding of design
principles, techniques, and the evolution of visual communication. Researching credible sources,
staying updated on current design trends, and analyzing case studies can be time-consuming but
is essential for producing a well-informed and insightful essay.
Expressing ideas in a clear and coherent manner is another challenge. Effective communication is
fundamental in graphic design, and the essay should reflect this through organized structure,
logical flow, and articulate language. Balancing creativity with academic rigor is key, as the essay
should not only be visually appealing but also intellectually stimulating.
Moreover, the dynamic nature of the field poses a challenge in keeping the information relevant
and up-to-date. Graphic design is ever-evolving, with new tools, technologies, and design
philosophies emerging regularly. Ensuring that the essay reflects the contemporary landscape of
graphic design requires continuous research and adaptation.
In conclusion, writing an essay on graphic design topics demands a blend of creativity, analytical
thinking, and a deep understanding of the subject. It is a task that requires dedication, time, and
a genuine passion for the field. However, the opportunity to explore and articulate ideas about
the visual world makes the process both challenging and enriching.

Life Sketch for a Funeral
My dad married his high school sweetheart, Lisa Malee Erickson, on February 5,
1993. He had joined the Army Reserve and left soon after they were married to
attend basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. I m his first daughter,
Christine Brianne Hill. I was born May 26, 1993, while he was in training. Daddy
was given leave to come home and see his new baby daughter, but had to return just
two days later. He completed his training two months later and returned to his wife
and baby. He adored Christine and would not be without her. I was looking at
pictures and talking to my mom, she said she remembers him sleeping with Christine
on his chest. (Insert letter from Ryan to Christine) Dad was always very supportive

They loved to camp together. It became a family tradition to camp in Zion s National
Park over Easter and then drive into St. George for the annual Easter egg hunt.
It was around this time that Ryan got very interested in food. We can all remember
the strange things he liked to eat, like oysters and Kipper Snacks. He loved
Tabasco sauce and would add it to everything, seriously everything. But, he not
only liked to eat food, he loved to cook it. He had become an amazing cook. He
made turkey and oyster dressing for the Hill Family Thanksgiving a couple of
years ago and raised the bar for all Thanksgivings to come. He regularly cooked
prime rib dinner for the Erickson family on Christmas Eve. Lisa said he could
spend 25 minutes picking out a steak. He loved to cook, but he especially loved to
cook for his siblings. While Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Ryan and Aunt Megan and
Uncle Shawn were attending BYU, Ryan would invite them over regularly for
Sunday dinner and a game of Sequence, until I decided to choke on a game piece,
and dad had to stick his finger down my throat to make me throw up. We will miss
his good cooking.
Ryan started working for PMG in 2002. This was the start of a very successful
career in sales. He quickly moved up and became the top salesperson at the
company, which later changed its name to Prosper. Most recently, he was leading a
sales team at Property23. He was good at what he did

Childbirth And The Italian Renaissance
Childbirth and Childbearing in Renaissance Italy for upper status woman, was far
different than what childbearing is compared to today s standards. In renaissance
Italy it was said that woman only had one purpose and that purpose was to have
many legitimate babies, especially for the nobility and upper status couples. From
having these babies, the family could inherit a lot of wealth (King, M. L., 2003).
This differs greatly in todays society, as now woman s primary function is not only
to produce children. Woman today are seen as equals to men, and have a larger
significance than just having their husbands children. Childbearing in the
Renaissance was not as easy or as safe as it is today either, as we will further
discuss. This paper will explain the role of child birthing and bearing in the Italian
Renaissance, everything from mortality rates, to wet nurses and this differs from
today s society. As mentioned before, the main role for woman in the renaissance
was to produce children for her husband and handle household affairs, this was
proven in the document by Alberti when he had said Furthermore, I made it a rule
never to speak with her of anything but household matters or of the children. Of
these matters I spoke a great deal to her...(Famiglia, D., 1996, pg 40). Thus showing
the wife s role was greatly dependent on her house and children. It was also
important, especially in the nobility, that the children the wife gave birth to were her
husband s children. Her role
Marxism And The Power Of The Media
The mass media is an extremely integral part of society as it consumes and
influences our everyday lives, whether we are conscious of it or not. Whether it is
through the Internet, television, newspapers, advertisements or the radio, we are
constantly bombarded by mass media. As Burton observes, the main power of the
media lies in the fact that it can shape what we know about the world and can be a
main source of ideas and opinions (2002:2). As the media continues to compel such
power over socialisation, many researchers have set out to perceive the power of the
mass media(Curran, Gurevitch, Woollacott 2006:1). This essay will discuss these
theories, namely the liberal pluralist and Marxist approaches as well as the role of
media in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, the Marxists were concerned about the effects that the mass media had on the
audience. Media s influence can be evaluated from an essentially ideological
standpoint; it propounds the view that the media can be compared to a hypodermic
needle , because it has the power to inject a repressive ideology directly into the
consciousness of the masses (Morley, 1980:1). However, ironically, Marxist and
critical commentators have also argued that the mass media play a strategic role in
reinforcing dominant social norms and values that legitimise the social system.
(Curran ,etal, 2006:14). Marcuse suggested that we greatly overrate the indoctrinating
power of the media. For instance, voting, some Marxists claim that media portrayals
of elections constitute dramatized rituals that legitimise the power structure in liberal
democracies, voting is seen as an ideology that helps to sustain the myth of
representative democracy, political equality and collective self determination
(Curran, etal, 2006:14). However, pioneering studies into the effects of the media on
voting behaviour by McQuail (1961) concluded that the media had only a marginal
influence in changing the way in which people voted.
In contrast to the Marxists, who saw the
Examples Of Language In 1984
Each language provides a worldview or the reality of the world for the people who
speak it. It carries the consciousness of people using it and ideologies employed to
explain how lives should be lived. George Orwell s 1984 is a dystopian novel which
explores the world if individualism were nonexistent and wars and violence were the
norm. These characteristics of a totally imperfect world were mainly illustrated
through violence and the regulation of the Newspeaklanguage.
1.Historical Background of the Text
Before the First World War, the ideas of the Enlightenment prevailed in the socialist
movements in Europe. However, as mankind witnessed the death of millions under
the illusion of peace during the First and Second World Wars such as... Show more

However, this was not the only purpose of the language. It was made to make all
other modes of thought impossible. The control of language is parallel to the control
of citizens by the Party.
Winston Smith, the protagonist of the novel, embodies the assumptions of Orwell
about man s nature rational, individual and has a constant desire to define reality.
Orwell concerns himself not only with the failure of communication but also with
tyranny using the language. The novel explores the effect of totalitarianism on
individual human consciousness through the experiences of Winston and his desire
to have the freedom to have the freedom to say that two plus two is equal to four.
Like Marx, Winston thinks of language as a medium of human consciousness. In he
novel, it was shown that he thinks of Newspeak as something that strips humanity of

Revenge In The Film Gladiator
For almost three thousand years, revenge has been a central preoccupation of
European literature. ( #2 ) Even today we as students of the world see Aristotle s
influence around us. Especially in the forms of entertainment that we seek, such as
movies. The film Gladiator contains the need for revenge; just like the many
European literatures before its time. It also follows Aristotle s guidelines of tragedy.
The protagonist, Maximus, suffers from a thirst of revenge for the murderer of his
family. As the audience watches this film they are taken through a roller coaster of
emotion such as, sympathy for Maximus and fear for his defeat. In the film Gladiator,
written by Ridley Scott, follows Aristotle s guide to tragedy by depicting the
protagonist s fatal flaw of vengefulness, the audience s emotions of fear and pity
while watching this film. Throughout the course of the film it is obvious that
Maximus s need to avenge the death of his wife and child is the driving force behind
his actions, and inevitable death. After a crucial change in power for the Roman
empire, General Maximus Decimus Meridiusis put into a tough situation. The new
Caesar holds a grudge against Maximus and takes it out on his wife and son,
creating a storm of rage within the Roman General. Driven by his need for blood,
Maximus uses his newfound life as a Gladiator to get close to the emperor. Near the
end of the film Maximus and the emperor finally clash, and the duel brings about the
death of each
A Comparison Of The Knight In Sir Gawain And The Green
Knight
Several fictional works set in Arthurian times contain numerous similar elements,
whether that be in the structure of its plot or encounters with mythical beings;
however, one particular element of these tales stands out among the rest, that being
the knights in the stories. Both chivalrous and virtuous, knights are the very
embodiment of Arthurian mythology, and are a staple in many Arthurian legends.
Their courageous acts of selflessness and loyalty to their lords only add to their
reputation, inspiring many authors throughout the ages to capture their likeness in
various texts; however, only one author has been able to truly capture what it means
to be a knight, that author being the Gawain Poet. Also known as the Pearl Poet, the
Gawain Poet is most known for his chivalric romance Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight. The story revolves around a central conflict in which the protagonist, Sir
Gawain, must fulfill an agreement with a mysterious knight. Gawain s debt must be
repaid exactly one year after their agreement, and if Gawain should fail to do so, his
honor and reputation would be tarnished. It is through his struggles that Gawain not
only grows as a character, but also shows what it means to truly be a knight. Sir
Gawain is the epitome of a knight because he is not only chivalrous and virtuous, but
also stays true to his word in the face of danger. Countless Arthurian tales portray
knights as true altruists, meaning that they are more concerned for the

Probation Parole And Parole For The Year 2013
In 2014 the Bureau of Justice Statistics released a report regarding probation and
parole for the year 2013, the most recent year for which data is available. The report
noted that by the end of that year there were an estimated 4,751,400 adults serving
probation or parole; women accounted for 25% (Herberman Bonczar, 2014). The
number of women on probation and paroledoubled between 1990 and 2003, which
led to research into the best practices for women offenders (Sydney, 2005). In
addition to supervised release there were 173,824 individuals who were
unconditionally released in 2013 (Carson, 2014). Unconditional release occurs when
an inmate completes their prisonterm and is released without probation or parole
requirements.

Education was also a factor of recidivism. Individuals who did not have a high
school education were one and a half times more likely to return to prison (Matheson,
Doherty, Grant, 2011; Wikoff, Linhorst Morani, 2012).
Substance abuse is also a factor in recidivism rates. A sizable amount of prisoners
met the DSM IV criteria for either drug dependence or abuse in 2004, with 45% of
those in federal prison and 53% of those in state prison diagnosed (Karberg Mumola,
2006). The Survey of Inmates in State and Federal Correctional Facilities completed
by the Bureau of justice Statistics in 2004 found that almost one third of state
prisoners admitted that their crime was committed while they were under the
influence of an illegal substance. It also found that one in every three inmates
committed their crime to gain drug money (Karberg Mumola, 2006). Those who
were at high risk for substance abuse were more likely to recidivate than those
without drug issues (Wikoff, Linhorst, Morani, 2012).
According to Yamatiani and Spieldnes (2011) the biggest issues faced by women
exiting incarceration were stable housing and long term, legal employment. It was
also noted that women suffer from issues such as sexual trauma and problems
connecting with their children more often than their male counterparts (Bloom, Owen,
Andrew Wiggin And Valentine Quotes
In the novel Ender in Exile , by Orson Scott Card, the two characters I am

similarity is that they are both very intelligent but in different things. Valentine is
more aware of people s emotions and how to manipulate them as shown in the
quote, Valentine s brilliantly perverse talent for demagoguery . She is able to
manipulate people however she wants without them realizing they had been
manipulated. Ender possesses a more general genius, and one that allows him to
lead everyone greatly as shown by the quote, Who would hope to fool a genius like
you? which was said to Ender. He was a tactical genius who win the war against the

Life Regard Model
In this study, we investigated the relationship between life regard, perceived social
support, HIV symptom load, forgiveness and optimism. We hypothesized that life
regard, perceived social support and forgiveness would positively correlate with
optimism, people who reported HIV symptoms would be less optimistic than people
without HIV related symptoms and that our independent variables accounted for a
significant proportion of variance in optimism. Our results support these hypotheses,
except for a significant difference in optimism between people who reported HIV
related symptoms and those without. Our findings are consistent with current
literature regarding the relationships between positive constructs such as meaning in

Ashton Kutcher s Speech Human Trafficking Speech
Ashton Kutcher, co founder of Thorn, is seen giving a speech about human
trafficking in front of congress. In his speech he tells us about some of the scary
realisms of human trafficking. Ashton Kutcher starts off by telling Congress his
position on the matter. After that, he tells us some statistics on human trafficking.
He brings up a strong point on how foster homes and foster communities are prime
government programs that help fuel the unloved soul of the foster child. Then,
Ashton goes on to tell us some stories of young girls who were abused, raped, and
tortured in human trafficking rings. Ashton Kutcher uses a lot of pathos in his
speech so that his audience can feel sympathy to all the people who are trapped in
the human trafficking industry. This helps him convey the severity of human
trafficking. He tells us a specific example of one girl who was so used to the
situation that she thought she was playing. This is a very sad tear jerking story you
actually see one of the ladies in the background cry because of his strong use of
pathos in this speech. After that, Ashton Kutcher bring in statistics of how useful his
foundations human trafficking program is. He tells Congress that it turns six months
of cases into six weeks. In conclusion Ashton Kutcher is pitching his new program to
Congress so that the number of human trafficking cases can go down and stop earlier.

Examples Of Mature In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet are believed to mature throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet , but
in reality, their sophistication did not change at all. At the beginning of the story, they
both threatened to kill themselves because they didn t get what they want but by the
end of the story, they actually took their lives. Being mature consists of being
responsible, and acting a few years over a current age. Romeo and Juliet were not
mature with their relationship. They got married in a matter of hours. These reasons
make Romeo and Juliet not mature, although they were believed to mature somewhat
throughout the play/book. Romeo and Juliet are considered to be royal rich kids who
get what they want, but one thing they can not get is an either
Macklemore s Song Same Love
Macklemore s song Same Love was nominated for Song of the Year at the 56th
Grammy Awards and is no doubt one of the most popular and influential songs of
2012. Their song is meant as a protest of the gay and lesbian rights as well as his
way of expressing his feelings towards the hip hop culture and their views on
homosexuality. During Macklemore s life, he grew up with a gay uncle, however it
was not just the problem with equality that powered the song. The obvious and
outrageous use of the term gay in the hip hop world was utilized as a disparaging
term also fueled the creation of Same Love. So many people have used and are still
using words like that s gay and you re gay in casual everyday conversation and
Macklemore feels like something needs to change. This wanted change is seen in
his song where he hopes people will slowly remove these words from everyday
convos and make people reconsider their usage of such derogative words and make
them more aware.1... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song Same Love starts with a flashback from his childhood in the third grade
where he was afraid of being gay since he grew up with an uncle who was gay.
Since then he tries to discuss the ongoing issue of same sex marriage in his lyrics
despite the struggle. Even though he is not gay, he is a strong believer in how there
is no such thing as freedom until we are all equal and we can see that in his song.
He simply cares because it is our time to create the change that is right.
Danaher Case Study
Introduction
This case study is conducted to understand how information systems can help
Danaher work leaner. Organizations now have to use technology to transform their
business. Since the creation of the internet, it has brought many opportunities for
innovative e business that will be based on for new approaches to the business. The
more businesses advertise on social media like Facebook, Twitter and other social
media. There are also a lot of new information technology and information systems to
help businesses to achieve their goals and make their work more effectively and more

Although the firm has been working on maximum efficiency, Tom Mathis has come
up with a better solution to solve the problem. He plans to cut costs by purchasing
supplies from overseas sellers. Mr. Mathis knew that this strategy would have
increased the cost and time of delivery. The factory buyers should also take the time
to investigate any potential new vendors. So he is using information technology to
implement the program and to improve the process of inventory restocking.
(Larenernest, 2010) However, workers have been so accustomed to the Kanban
system that it is difficult for them to change the system, so there is a high resistance
to change among the business. In addition, it is well known that Microsoft managed
to reduce inventory levels and increase production rates without significant
investment in information technology. They settled with the traditional method of
trying to adopt new methods and many operating firms were deliberately separated
from the technology because the first thing the experts tell Kanban factory to do is to
disconnect the Material Requirements Planning System (MRP). MRP is a system
used to manage manufacturing processes in terms of production planning,
scheduling, and inventory control. This causes another problem for Mr. Mathis since
the firm does not have the internal resources needed to support the system that he
wants to employ. (Carr, 2005)

Crime And Media Analysis
The media has a tendency to vilify the perpetrator in order to gain more attention
from the readers and they do this by leaving things out of their report. The types of
information that tend to be excluded from media accounts of criminal behaviour are
those that would explain why the crime was committed. Such as, the type of
situation the individual was in, whether they were in the correct state of mind, and
/or what led the accused person to commit the offence. The textbook had a great
example of how the media fails to give the audience an alternative reasonable
explanation For instance, a report about a single mother accused or convicted of

Reflection Paper On The Wellman Well
The Wellman Well is one of the most well known spot on campus as it is close to
Memorial Union. The building was built in honor of the 13th UC President Harry
R. Wellman, and built in 1969. The building was remodeled in 1999 interiorly to
keep up with the large number of students that were using the facility. For this
assignment, I have decided to work on the Wellman Hall since I have classes in the
building. Everytime I passed through the Wellman s Well I feel that I can do an
improvement by proposing a plan. During my observation, Wellman Hall is one of
the most heavy traffic area as students tend to pass through the building or
surroundings area to get through places. The building is close to the Memorial
Union, which it is the port of buses and restaurants. For this assignment. I focused
on the back entrance of the Wellman Hall, Well, and surrounding area. I found that
the Well has a big space that is not being used, and there is only six benches in
total. When I was annotating my notes, I felt that the Well feels empty and
obsolete as there weren t a lot of people using the space except for getting to
classes. Also, the western area of the well is a popular route that many people go
through. I found that most people go through the south side of the building instead
of the north side of the building. I feel there should be an equal flow between the
south and north side of the building to ease up the flow, and promote safety for all.
My third observation is that the

Preserving the Eldorado
Each year in the United States, thousands of wildland firefighters risk their lives
working day and night attempting to get ahead of the fire. Whether they are trying
to save a single home, a community, or simply trying to save the forest, they
dedicate themselves; spending weeks at a time away from their loved ones, eating
MRE s, and getting few hours of rest as they sleep on the forest floor, sometimes
only feet away from the fire line. The effects of wildfire can be devastating, as the
residents of El Dorado county witnessed when the King Fire blazed in 2014,
destroying a total of twelve homes and close to 70 other structures and burning close

One potential solution is to change the current rules and regulations that the
Eldorado National Forest has set in regards to wood cutting. According to the
woodcutting guidelines for the Eldorado National Forest on the USDA website,
the current limit of wood cut per year is two cords that you may not sell, specific
to dead trees only that are located at least 200 feet away from any campsite or main
roads. If the Forest Service were to have well trained employees mark living trees
that were too close together and would be appropriate to be removed, effectively
thinning out the denser areas of the forest, people that have purchased woodcutting
permits could cut down the marked trees. The most predominant downsides to
cutting down a living tree is that it is significantly heavier that a dead tree would
be and that it would need to dry out for about a year to actually be able to be
burned in a fireplace or woodstove. A potential incentive would be to allow an
unlimited amount of cords to be acquired throughout the year and to allow for the
personal sale of the wood that is cut. If the Eldorado were to adopt these guidelines,
as each forest is allowed to set and regulate their own woodcutting standards, this
would be effective in suppressing future fires by thinning out the forest, at no
additional cost to the forest service, aside from the wages paid to the employees
marking the trees. The long term benefits of
Allied Counter Invasion In WWII
Allied Counter Invasion in WWII
On September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany began what would be later known as World
War Two. After the Axis invasion in China and in parts of Europe during World
War Two, the Allies began to push back. One way the Allies pushed the Axis back
was the Allies were going through Africa to the boot toe of Italy to capture Italy.
Another way the Allies fought back began on D Day when America and Britain
pushed their way into France from Britain and at the same time, the USSR had been
fighting the Nazis and began to take back their land pushing toward Germany. The
final way the Allies kept the Axis reign to a minimum was the battles in the Pacific

The Americans began to regain control of Japanese controlled islands. One group of
soldiers went south by Australia and began to push up. Another group began to push
east, toward Japan. Then, President Franklin Roosevelt died in office, leaving Vice
President Harry Truman to decide how to make Japan surrender. Truman then met
with the Allied leaders and sent a message to Japan asking them if they wanted to
surrender or face utter destruction. The Japanese decided not to surrender and
America dropped the first two nuclear bombs on Japan. The Japanese then
surrendered, bringing the second World War to a close.
The Allied powers in World War Two had a great problem on their hands. They had
to stop the Axis powers from taking over more of the world. The Allies had four
different fronts to attack the three main Axis countries and they finally overthrew all
three. Even with the war over, the effects and the advancing Cold War were far from
over.

Lack Of Interaction In The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury
The way people interact and who they interact with greatly influences how end up

nightly activities when he says on his way he would see the cottages and homes
with their dark windows, and it was not unequal to walking through a graveyard
where only the faintest glimmers of firefly light appeared (Bradbury 1). This quote
is illustrating the idea of how Leonard Mead s lack of interaction with others and
how he observes the way people interact influences him to be different from others.
Without the lack of interaction he has, his choice to go out and walk at night wouldn

Financial Aid In College Essay
Perusing higher education, going to college, getting a degree seems to be way too
easy for people to accomplish these days. Getting through high school is simple
enough, all you have to do is show up and stay on task. The next step after high
school is college for most people, anyone can do it, but why is it so simple? College
used to be difficult to achieve, you go to college and people look up to you. The
answer to all of this, Financial Aid, the government will pay for your college
tuition based on your family s income. On a college campus you will find a variety
of people, but in this case we are talking about people s financial status. Ranging
from well off to very poor, which brings up the question, if you are so poor then
how are you attending school here ? Very good question, the students that are
struggling so hard financially is because they come from middle class families, or
what is considered middle class to the state. Middle class students are the students
that family s fall into a spot where they just make enough money that they don t
qualify for financial aid because they can pay their bills on time. This all seems fair
enough, you can pay your bills why should the government pay for your college
tuition? For most universities after a 4 year degree a student can owe between

students from families that qualify for financial aid that only sign up for school
because they know the government is giving them so much money for school and
that they are going to receive a huge refund from the school each semester. In their

Similarities And Differences Between King Henry And

4.Comparing Caesar to King Henry V
4.1 Aristocratic family backgrounds
King Henry V and Caesar share common historical grounds. As the third king in the
Lancaster family line, King Henry was descendent of the old, aristocratic Angevin
dynasty which reigned in England from 1154 to 1485, beginning with King Henry II
of Plantagenet. The family dynasty began in the region of Anjou and the dynasty s
expansion into Europe was considered its golden age (Vauchez, A et al. 2000:65).
Similarly, Caesar too came from an old, aristocratic family that had patrician roots. In
his infamous speech made at his Aunt Julia s funeral, Caesar illustrated how the Julia
gens claimed ancestry from Aeneas, son of Aphrodite saying ...while the
Julians...descend from the goddess Venus herself... Caesars adds that his family
...therefore hold the sanctity of kings who rule among men and of gods whole rule
over kings... (Freeman 2008:52). By both having an aristocratic family background,
there exists a commonality between the two prominent historical figures.

As Julius Caesar advanced Roman influence and territory into the West through his
conquests of Gaul, Spain, Africa and parts of Asia, Henry V expanded the British
empire into France. Henry s invasion of France began with the attack on the French

in the Treaty of Troyes being signed on the 21st of May 1420, the effect being that
Henry became the heir to the French throne, further solidified to solidified with his

Genomic Variations
Genetic and genomic variations are being taken into consideration when referring to
nursing interventions for patients. In the discussion paper, Individual Genetic and
Genomic Variation: A New Opportunity for Personalized Nursing Interventions by
Munro (2014), the author examines the potential for genetic and genomic variations
being incorporated into nursing interventions for patients. According to Tremblay and

these genomics revealed that genomes are able to respond to environmental

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death among men and
women in the United States. There is a higher chance of CHD affecting men,
therefore when CHD affects women there are less interventions and poorer
recognition of this disease. The study Women s Experiences of Undergoing
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery by Banner (2011), it explores the lived
experiences of women before and after CABG surgery. This study included thirty
women aged between 53 and 80 years old who were interviewed before and after their
surgery. Prior to surgery, these women were reluctant to seek medical attention when
they were not feeling good. Instead, they often sought the advice of friends and
family members. However, talking about their condition made the women feel more
anxious, fearful, insecure and more reluctant to discuss these worries with loved ones
partly to preserve normal family relationships and to decrease their anxieties (p. 923).
Banner states that symptoms were frequently ignored being attributed to other less
serious causes, chronic conditions or to advancing age (p. 922). The patients did not
seek medical attention for their symptoms until the symptoms disrupted their lives.
When they finally sought medical attention their descriptions of their symptoms were
very and vague therefore led to inaccurate diagnoses. After surgery these women felt
they were able to return to normal
Cloud Computing And Its Impact On The Entire Ict

Cloud computing has evolved with the passage of time and has revolutionized the
entire ICT industry. Cloud computing is categorized into two forms Service oriented
computing and Grid Computing. Service oriented Computing is an transpiring
paradigm that has revamped the consumption of software and related product all
around the globe. The core functionalities that service oriented computing provide is

Essay on Crusading Movement
The Crusading movement
The Crusades were military expeditions undertaken by Christian Europe between the
11th and the 17th century to recapture the Holy Land from the Muslims. The main
crusading movement took place between the 11th and 13th century. The word
crusade, which is derived from the Latin Crux was adopted by crusaders who
adorned themselves with the symbol of Christianity: the cross.1 Crusaders wore a red
cross sewn on their tunics to indicate their status as soldiers of Christ.
The causes of the Crusades were many and complex, but prevailing religious beliefs
were of major importance. The Crusaders assumed a dual role as pilgrims and
warriors. Such an armed pilgrimage was regarded as an acceptable war, because it ...

The First Crusade was launched by Pope Urban II in a speech at the Council of
Clermont, France, on Nov. 27, 1095. Urban spoke of the need to help the Christian
East, to stop the abuse of the holy places, and stressed the moral duty of keeping
the Peace of God at home. 2 He appealed for volunteers to set out for Jerusalem.
The response was overwhelming. With the cry Deus vult! ( God wills it ), thousands
took the cross. Bands of poorly armed pilgrims, most of them inexperienced and
poor, set out for Constantinople under Peter the Hermit and Walter the Penniless
even before the army gathered. Some began by massacring Jews in the Rhine valley.
Many perished on there way east, and the rest were destroyed by the Muslims when
they crossed into Anatolia.
The main army, mostly French and Norman knights under brilliant leadership of

campaign, four Crusader states had been formed along the Syrian and Palestinian

Analysis Of Three Sisters, The Time Span Of The Play
In Three Sisters, the time span of the play covers three years, starting from Irena s
20th birthday. At the start of the play, Irena was a cheerful, naГ
Їve dreamer. Even
though Irena is from an upper class family, her actions and words depicted her as
someone innocent and somewhat childish. Irena s fantasy about the life of the
working class made her very passionate about the concept of working from dawn to
dusk. She often wondered about the fulfillment of having a job, and disliked the
aristocrats meaningless lifestyle. Irena also adored the idea about being in love, she
believed that she will find her true love in Moscow. In fact, out of three Prozorova
sisters, Irena is most attached to Moscow. At the end of each act, she would state how
she missed her hometown dearly and wanted to return to her hometown.
The physical world of the play looks old and simplistic. The Prozorov household
looks grandiose but empty, the interior furniture and wallpaper are simple and
quaint. The emptiness of the house reflected the three sister s yearning for their
return to Moscow. Most of the furniture seen around the house, such as chairs and
tables, are made out of wood. A simple white laced tablecloth was placed over the
rectangular dinner table. Silverwares and cups were neatly placed in front of each
chairs as guests filed in the living room one by one. When guests entered the room,
they are greeted with candles from the chandelier as lunch was being prepared. The

risks include database corruption, spyware, and hacking.
Database Corruption
Database corruption is one potential safety concern for the Benefits Election System.
Database corruption comes in several forms including viruses and worms. Viruses
act as a real program that is installed on the computer or network and every time the
program is accessed the virus spreads to other programs until the system and/or
computer essentially crashes. On the other hand, worms attack the security holes
within a network. Like viruses, worms attach themselves to holes within the security
of the network. Once worms have attached to the network the worm then scans for
other networks with holes to replicate. This kind of corruption to the system can lead
to loss and damage of information on the system. Anti corruption software is readily
available in today s market which reduces
Theodore Roosevelt s Influence
Theodore Roosevelt lived through many things, experienced great events, and
lead country changing movements. From the days where he was called Teedie by
his siblings to him taking on the role of becoming our country s leader, it s safe to
say that there were many aspects of his life to look at. The years 1889 to 1900 in
his life were fundamentally the building blocks of his presidency and his many other
successes. Had it not been for these essential years, then Theodore Rooseveltmay
have not been the great historical figure that we view today. Although his
presidency decade is seen as the most influential, his military service decade is the
most superior compared to the other decades because these were the years where
he was appointed the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, lead the Rough Riders in the
Spanish American War, and was elected governor of New York. Primarily,
Roosevelt s influence began to rise when he was first appointed the Assistant
Secretary of the Navy. A paper done on Roosevelt s time in the Navy says, Roosevelt
was rewarded for his diligent service when President William McKinleymade him the
assistant to the Secretary of the Navy in 1896. While holding this position, Roosevelt

Two Types Of Exposure Therapy
Exposure Therapy is when a therapist works with a patient to carefully gain control
of the panic and trauma associated with the anxiety caused by their fear. It is
commonly used to help patients to address the cause of the panic, and to work with
the panic rather than ignore it altogether. The goal is not to re traumatize the patient
but rather to have them be able to work with their panic at a pace comfortable to
them. The goal is to not let the patient use safety mechanisms such as avoidance and
distraction, which are behaviors that can commonly be used by those who suffer
from this type of panic hindering their ability to overcome the fear. There are two
types of Exposure Therapies, graduated exposure and flooding. Graduated exposure is

Also,
Higgins and Eliza have moments where they begin to sing about the short lines
Higgins has Eliza reading in order to improve her pronunciation (Levin, 1964).
Therefore, the play and the film contrast with the use of music because the book does
not implement the musical approach as the film does.
On the other hand, the characters in Pygmalion and My Fair Lady perform both
similar and different actions compared to one or the other. Additionally, however
both the play and the film mostly shared similar actions rather than being unalike.
For example, Eliza says in the final act of the play that Pickering treats a flower girl
as if she was a duchess (Shaw, 1916,

These requirements are translated into design. A code is produced as according to the
design that is created which is according to the requirement. This is called the
development phase of the lifecycle. After coding and development the testing verifies
the deliverable of the implementation phase against requirements [3].
2.2) what are the benefits of the Software development life cycle process?
The main aim of the lifecycle process is to produce a product which would be cost
efficient, effective and also up to the high standard. Once the application is created,
the lifecycle determines the proper arrangement and decommissioning of the software
once it becomes legacy [5].
The life cycle contains following stages:

пѓ Design
пѓ Implementation or coding
пѓ Testing
пѓ Deployment
пѓ Maintenance
2.3) Requirement gathering and analysis
This phase is critical to the success of the project. In this phase the purpose of the

requirements that the software needs to fulfil when it is completed. Hence this stage
is the main focus of project managers and stakeholders.
This phase involves more communication to get the detailed description from the

Inherently, the focus of God is love and to respect His authority is to love Him.
Learning to worship God as Trinity involves more than just searching for creative
techniques. We need to know about the nature of our triune God if we are to
worship him and enjoy him properly (Shaw 79). Often when I feel discouraged,
the instinct is to blame God, the creator of everything. Sometimes I get so wrapped
up in my own selfishness, that I forget all the things God has done, not just for me,
but also for the world. His mercy is compassionate love for sinners who do not
deserve the redemption in Christ that he offers. His grace likewise speaks of his
free favor granted to sinners (Shaw 81). I am also reminded that God is
transcendent. He surpasses time and money, earth and space. God is so important,
that metaphors are constantly referred to as representing God: God is a rock, God
is the light, God is the bread, God is a fortress, God is the potter and we are the
clay (GCU text). According to the text, creation and humanity are the work of a
triune God. Creation includes the entire activity of God. In creation all three
persons are at work simultaneously, including the Holy Spirit (Gen 1:2) and the
Word (John 1:1) (Chapter 5). 3 Studies of Jesus primarily focus on the duality of
Jesus and how he is able to be both human and divine at once. This subject was

1. I believe that these values do accurately reflect what is of greatest importance to
me. There are alternate values that perhaps could have landed on this list, but these
values ring true to me and are an accurate portrayal of that which I hold dear to me
and use as guidance within my life decisions. 2. The most difficult values to discard
were forgiveness, loving, and nurturing. I had an arduous time ranking items such as
God s will and friendship. My predicament with God s will was my ruling on
whether it was legitimately very important to me, or whether I simply knew that it

Based on my week, I spend the bulk of my time on school associated activities.
This was not a surprise to me, what I was surprised by was the small amounts of
time that I devote to my religion. Although I attend seminary, read my scriptures,
and pray everyday, the accumulative time of all on these activities adds to just over
an hour a day. I am quite aware of how I spend my time, it is very unusual for me to
lay around and waste time of useless tasks.
2. Based on my week, I can only largely identify two main values from exercise #1:
knowledge and service. This makes sense because I spend 32 hours sitting in class a
week. This doesn t include time spent on homework or other corresponding activities.
Something that did not make too large of an appearance was my spirituality. I will
admit that my scripture studies and other related activities were extremely diminished
this week. But it is to be expected that my religion isn t quite as evident within my
daily schedule because it isn t practical to spend over 4 hours a day reading scriptures,
there simply isn t enough time. True spirituality is seen through more subtle actions
than in extravagant activities that draw large amounts of attention. With this
considered, I do still need to increase the amount of time I spend improving my

Pre Raphaelites
I visited National Gallery of Art, Washington DC on Friday, March 29, 2013 to see
the exhibition Pre Raphaelites: Victorian Art and Design, 1848 1900 .
It is the first major survey of the art of the Pre Raphaelites to be shown in the United
States features some 130 paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and decorative art
objects. The young members of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood, formed in 1848,
shook the art world of mid 19th century Britain by rejecting traditional approaches to
painting. Combining scientific precision, an innovative approach to subject matter,
and brilliant, clear colors, Pre Raphaelitism was Britain s first avant garde art
movement.

(In a futile attempt to keep her warm, he put candles beneath it, but she reportedly
became ill afterward and her father refused to allow her to work for him again.)
Rarely, however, had her demise been imagined as explicitly as in Millais s painting,
which shows her floating down the stream before the moment when, in the words of
the Bard her garments, heavy with their drink, / Pull d the poor wretch from her
melodious lay / to muddy death. Several years after Ophelia caused a sensation,
another painting with a similarly bleak subject caught the attention of the public.
2. William Holman Hunt
The Awakening Conscience, 1853 1854,
Oil on canvas, presented by Sir Colin and Lad Anderson through the Friends of the
Tate Gallery, 1976
Hunt s The Awakening Conscience depicts a moment of salvation, a spiritual
message embedded in a composition dense with symbolism. A kept woman, on
hearing the song her lover has been singing, realizes her mistaken ways and rises
from his lap. The sentimental lyrics reminded her of lost innocence; she looks out
from the dark, gaudily furnished apartment that has been set up for their trysts,
toward the light of the garden, reflected in the large gilded mirror behind her. The
fallen woman was a shocking subject, but it fascinated many painters. Including
Rossetti, who addressed the controversial theme in a poem and a number of drawings.

How Charles Dickens Life Influenced Oliver Twist
The range of his creative activity is, in the first place, limited to the world of his
youth (Cecil 169). This quote explains many people. What has previously happened
to a person has a tremendous impact on them. It can affect their decisions, emotions,
and life. The life of a person can sometimes be seen quite easily through what they
do. Artists often reveal what their life has been like through the works that they
create. The same can be said about writers. Events in authors past often show up in
his works. The above quote is, in fact, made in regard to Charles Dickens.
Dickens had several real life experiences of poverty and abandonment in his life that
influenced his work, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, they saved him from the factory. Charles grew up and put himself
through the education he could manage to find. He got a job as a lawyer s
apprentice, and then he worked as a parliamentary reporter. Dickens began to do
some freelance writings for several magazines. He eventually became the editor of a
magazine and an author of his own novels.
Throughout Dickens journey through life, the poor laws of Great Britain were
closely intertwined. The first major impact that his childhood experiences had on
him was his exposure to the factory system. The Industrial Revolution created large
urban areas with a central factory that employed most of the area s people. The
factory was full of lower class people in unsanitary conditions. In the days of
Dickens factory experience the old poor laws were in effect. This helped Dickens
situation greatly. His father lived in a fairly nice and sanitary prison, and was given
time to find the money he owed. The old poor law system of giving aid to the poor
helped to save the Dickens family. When Dickens grew up and was a
parliamentary reporter, the new poor laws were about to be passed. Dickens
realized that the new poor laws would bring doom to many families. The new poor
laws did not help the poor but worsened their condition in order to drive them to work.
Dickens experiences of living in abandonment and working in Warren s Blacking

Essay Divorced, Beheaded, Survived
B ...Divorced, Beheaded, Survived A short story written by Robin Black in 2010.
Death is an issue everybody has to face at some point in their lives. The only thing
we know for certain as human beings is that we are mortal. We do not know why
we are here and how we got here, however we definitely know that someday we are
going to die. Nevertheless, death is also a very vulnerable topic and it is difficult
to know how to handle it when and we all have different ways of dealing with death.
In the short story ...Divorced, Beheaded, Survived (2010) by Robin Black we meet
the I narrator, Sarah, her husband Lyle and their two children Mark and Coco. The
short story deals with themes such as death, memories, childhood and the... Show

From line 52 to 65 we are introduced to Sarah s contemporary family, her children
and her husband. Then another flashback appears and the tense switches from
present tense to past tense. From line 65, page 3, to line 126, page 5, we hear
about the car accident through dialogues from the day it happened and through
passages of descriptions. Subsequently the tense switches from past to present
from line 127 to 130 where Sarah describes her feelings about Terry s death. In this
passage she reflects about the fact that when you are dead, as loved as you may be,
you may also be forgotten. There appears another flashback from line 131 to line
147 where Sarah memorises an episode ten years ago where she decided to put away
a picture of Terry as soon as Mark was old enough to ask questions because the line
between Mark and Terry was too easily drawn. She hides the picture in the dresser
where she also keeps her gloves and her really fine scarves, which is a symbol of
her protecting her brother and maybe the gloves are a symbol of Sarah still
holding him tightly with her hands, heart and memory. From line 147 to 156 the
tense goes from past to present again. She is describing how Mark handles the
death of Peter and how his little sister Coco is worried about him because he does not
speak to his friends. However, because Sarah has experienced death in an early age
too, she is not
Comparing Burke And Wills
Introduction/Background Information Burke and Wills both came from very
different backgrounds, but despite this, they both found themselves in Australia
attempting to explore the continent from South to North. Robert O Hara Burke was
born in Count Galway, Ireland, in 1821, he was the second of three sons of James
and Anne Burke. After leaving school he decided to migrate to Australia and in
1853 he entered the Victorian Police force. Then in 1860 he was appointed the
commanding officer of the exploration expedition to cross Australia from South to
North (Fitzpatrick, 2015). Having not been in the field of exploring and having no
experience as a leader of an expedition it was quite puzzling how he was appointed
the principal of such a significant operation. On the other hand John William Wills
was born in 1834 in Devon, England, he was an only child to William and Sarah
Wills. As John s father, Dr William Wills, was interested in Australia, he decided to
buy a share in a Melbourne gold mining company and because of this his entire
family moved to Australia. In Australia Wills studied surveying and later become an...

that there was no sign of Burke and his fellow explorers having been there, and
therefore didn t bother to dig up the cache which now contained the letter from

the 30th of May. After searching the site he was also completely unaware that anyone
had returned to the dig tree after they departed on the 22nd of
Research Paper About Quebec
Have you ever visited the city Quebec? It s a old city located in Canada, just barely
north of the border.
Quebec is an old, city built a long time ago. It has many features, both geographical,

lots of greenery, and a castle that doubles as a hotel too!

In the pictures above, you can see that many of the buildings in Quebec are old timey
like. This is likely because Quebec was founded long ago, and no one wanted to get
rid of the beautiful structures built long ago. Many other building are like this too.

My family and I go there every year! It is similar to ACL in Austin, except fancier
with more hands on activities. Most of the locals go here, along with some people
who travel to Quebec exclusively for this purpose. There are a bunch of bands, and
usually couches and carpets that the audience can sit on while watching the bands.
Some of the performances are outside, while some of them are in tents to protect
the audience from the wind and cold. There are also other booths, like shops and
such. My dad and I went in one where they use a green screen to make it look like
you re at a concert!
There are many things that students can enjoy there. There s many kinds of foods,
like escargot, chocolate croissants, and french onion soup. As mentioned earlier,
there is also a fancy castle hotel which people can stay in. You can visit stores there
which sell all different kinds of products.
In Quebec, there are many family attractions, which include fancy family friendly
restaurants. There are lots of historical spots and museums, which the family can
drop by to receive a quick history lesson. There s also hotels all over, so you won t
have a hard time finding a place to stay.
I say that Quebec is a great place to visit, both historically and recreationally. See you

Engels Inspired Utopian Society Essay
An Engels inspired utopia contains a society with minimal government involvement
and a technological driven life. It outlines a life where the imperfections of
capitalism is absent thus leading to a happy, ideal life. Capitalism is an economic
system where private ownership is permitted to allow exchange of goods and services
in a monetary system surrounded by competition (Dictionary 1). Technologywould
solve world issues in this ideal society such as having clean energy. With little
opposition, people in this society would be able to have any desire or needs at their
will. In such an Engels inspired utopian life, technologies such as advanced smart
houses and 3D printing would be utilized to enforce a society where safety and...

The advantage of having a smart home is that people living in this utopian society
will have more time for entertainment and less time stressing about their home
maintenance. This way, people can live a more luxurious and advantageous life
where they can enjoy the spoils that technology can offer. For instance, people in
this society can have breakfast ready instantly since their smart home learns their
routinely behavior. In a society where people have smart homes, they are being
moral for the greater good which stands in the face of the ethical theory of Virtue.
Having a smart home will end up reducing the production and consumption of
goods of regular houses such as wood and appliances. This reduces the carbon
footprint left behind by humans. By reducing the carbon footprint, choosing to have
smart houses is a characteristic of being considerate. Secondly, advanced 3D
printing applied to the medical field can be utilized in an Engels non capitalist
technology drive society to impact the area of safety. In this utopian society,
advanced 3D printing will have the capabilities to print synthetic tissue and organic
tissue that can bond to the patient s cells. In effect, this helps the patient s wound
heal faster. This type of advanced 3D bio printing can save many lives
Socrates Vs Niccolo Machiavelli Essay
Socrates and Niccolo Machiavelli are revered as some of the most influential thinkers
of their respective times. Both of these thinkers developed their thoughts while
Athens and Florence, their respective cities, faced political unrest. By questioning
the people of Athens through their period of turmoil following a shift in
government, Socrates was able to formulate opinions regarding how a government
should operate and how people should rule. Centuries later during the Renaissance
era, Machiavelli s Italy was in a divided state with the Medici family holding rule
over his native Florence. It was during this period when Machiavelli s harsh views
on how a prince should obtain power and use that power came to fruition. Apology
and Crito... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates would view Machiavelli s prince as unnecessarily strict and limiting to the
knowledge that people crave to possess. Machiavelli s leanings towards the state over
the individual starkly contrast Socrates quest for individual knowledge through
questioning.
Throughout his trial in Athens and when facing execution, Socrates solidly stuck
beside his belief that life without this sort of examination is not worth living
(Apology, 38a). Socrates deeply believed in philosophy. He spent his whole life
seeking wisdom through moral and political questions and even when addressing a
jury with the possibility of execution looming over him he declared I shall never
stop practicing philosophy and exhorting you and indicating the truth for everyone
(Apology, 29d). The truth and the means of finding it were the most important thing
to Socrates. Even though questioning was Socrates way to achieve power, he still
believed in following the law. Practicing free speech and resisting political tyranny
are not harmful as long as they fall within the constraints of the law. In explaining to
Crito why escaping execution was not an option, Socrates questions Crito saying, Do
you imagine that a city can continue to exist and not be turned upside down, if the
legal judgements which are pronounced in it have no force but are nullified and
destroyed (Crito, 50b). In refusing to escape his death sentence Socrates proves his

  • 2. Life Sketch for a Funeral My dad married his high school sweetheart, Lisa Malee Erickson, on February 5, 1993. He had joined the Army Reserve and left soon after they were married to attend basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. I m his first daughter, Christine Brianne Hill. I was born May 26, 1993, while he was in training. Daddy was given leave to come home and see his new baby daughter, but had to return just two days later. He completed his training two months later and returned to his wife and baby. He adored Christine and would not be without her. I was looking at pictures and talking to my mom, she said she remembers him sleeping with Christine on his chest. (Insert letter from Ryan to Christine) Dad was always very supportive of us kids.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They loved to camp together. It became a family tradition to camp in Zion s National Park over Easter and then drive into St. George for the annual Easter egg hunt. It was around this time that Ryan got very interested in food. We can all remember the strange things he liked to eat, like oysters and Kipper Snacks. He loved Tabasco sauce and would add it to everything, seriously everything. But, he not only liked to eat food, he loved to cook it. He had become an amazing cook. He made turkey and oyster dressing for the Hill Family Thanksgiving a couple of years ago and raised the bar for all Thanksgivings to come. He regularly cooked prime rib dinner for the Erickson family on Christmas Eve. Lisa said he could spend 25 minutes picking out a steak. He loved to cook, but he especially loved to cook for his siblings. While Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Ryan and Aunt Megan and Uncle Shawn were attending BYU, Ryan would invite them over regularly for Sunday dinner and a game of Sequence, until I decided to choke on a game piece, and dad had to stick his finger down my throat to make me throw up. We will miss his good cooking. Ryan started working for PMG in 2002. This was the start of a very successful career in sales. He quickly moved up and became the top salesperson at the company, which later changed its name to Prosper. Most recently, he was leading a sales team at Property23. He was good at what he did

  • 4. Childbirth And The Italian Renaissance Childbirth and Childbearing in Renaissance Italy for upper status woman, was far different than what childbearing is compared to today s standards. In renaissance Italy it was said that woman only had one purpose and that purpose was to have many legitimate babies, especially for the nobility and upper status couples. From having these babies, the family could inherit a lot of wealth (King, M. L., 2003). This differs greatly in todays society, as now woman s primary function is not only to produce children. Woman today are seen as equals to men, and have a larger significance than just having their husbands children. Childbearing in the Renaissance was not as easy or as safe as it is today either, as we will further discuss. This paper will explain the role of child birthing and bearing in the Italian Renaissance, everything from mortality rates, to wet nurses and this differs from today s society. As mentioned before, the main role for woman in the renaissance was to produce children for her husband and handle household affairs, this was proven in the document by Alberti when he had said Furthermore, I made it a rule never to speak with her of anything but household matters or of the children. Of these matters I spoke a great deal to her...(Famiglia, D., 1996, pg 40). Thus showing the wife s role was greatly dependent on her house and children. It was also important, especially in the nobility, that the children the wife gave birth to were her husband s children. Her role
  • 5. Marxism And The Power Of The Media The mass media is an extremely integral part of society as it consumes and influences our everyday lives, whether we are conscious of it or not. Whether it is through the Internet, television, newspapers, advertisements or the radio, we are constantly bombarded by mass media. As Burton observes, the main power of the media lies in the fact that it can shape what we know about the world and can be a main source of ideas and opinions (2002:2). As the media continues to compel such power over socialisation, many researchers have set out to perceive the power of the mass media(Curran, Gurevitch, Woollacott 2006:1). This essay will discuss these theories, namely the liberal pluralist and Marxist approaches as well as the role of media in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, the Marxists were concerned about the effects that the mass media had on the audience. Media s influence can be evaluated from an essentially ideological standpoint; it propounds the view that the media can be compared to a hypodermic needle , because it has the power to inject a repressive ideology directly into the consciousness of the masses (Morley, 1980:1). However, ironically, Marxist and critical commentators have also argued that the mass media play a strategic role in reinforcing dominant social norms and values that legitimise the social system. (Curran ,etal, 2006:14). Marcuse suggested that we greatly overrate the indoctrinating power of the media. For instance, voting, some Marxists claim that media portrayals of elections constitute dramatized rituals that legitimise the power structure in liberal democracies, voting is seen as an ideology that helps to sustain the myth of representative democracy, political equality and collective self determination (Curran, etal, 2006:14). However, pioneering studies into the effects of the media on voting behaviour by McQuail (1961) concluded that the media had only a marginal influence in changing the way in which people voted. In contrast to the Marxists, who saw the
  • 6. Examples Of Language In 1984 Each language provides a worldview or the reality of the world for the people who speak it. It carries the consciousness of people using it and ideologies employed to explain how lives should be lived. George Orwell s 1984 is a dystopian novel which explores the world if individualism were nonexistent and wars and violence were the norm. These characteristics of a totally imperfect world were mainly illustrated through violence and the regulation of the Newspeaklanguage. 1.Historical Background of the Text Before the First World War, the ideas of the Enlightenment prevailed in the socialist movements in Europe. However, as mankind witnessed the death of millions under the illusion of peace during the First and Second World Wars such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this was not the only purpose of the language. It was made to make all other modes of thought impossible. The control of language is parallel to the control of citizens by the Party. Winston Smith, the protagonist of the novel, embodies the assumptions of Orwell about man s nature rational, individual and has a constant desire to define reality. Orwell concerns himself not only with the failure of communication but also with tyranny using the language. The novel explores the effect of totalitarianism on individual human consciousness through the experiences of Winston and his desire to have the freedom to have the freedom to say that two plus two is equal to four. Like Marx, Winston thinks of language as a medium of human consciousness. In he novel, it was shown that he thinks of Newspeak as something that strips humanity of being
  • 7. Revenge In The Film Gladiator For almost three thousand years, revenge has been a central preoccupation of European literature. ( #2 ) Even today we as students of the world see Aristotle s influence around us. Especially in the forms of entertainment that we seek, such as movies. The film Gladiator contains the need for revenge; just like the many European literatures before its time. It also follows Aristotle s guidelines of tragedy. The protagonist, Maximus, suffers from a thirst of revenge for the murderer of his family. As the audience watches this film they are taken through a roller coaster of emotion such as, sympathy for Maximus and fear for his defeat. In the film Gladiator, written by Ridley Scott, follows Aristotle s guide to tragedy by depicting the protagonist s fatal flaw of vengefulness, the audience s emotions of fear and pity while watching this film. Throughout the course of the film it is obvious that Maximus s need to avenge the death of his wife and child is the driving force behind his actions, and inevitable death. After a crucial change in power for the Roman empire, General Maximus Decimus Meridiusis put into a tough situation. The new Caesar holds a grudge against Maximus and takes it out on his wife and son, creating a storm of rage within the Roman General. Driven by his need for blood, Maximus uses his newfound life as a Gladiator to get close to the emperor. Near the end of the film Maximus and the emperor finally clash, and the duel brings about the death of each
  • 8. A Comparison Of The Knight In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Several fictional works set in Arthurian times contain numerous similar elements, whether that be in the structure of its plot or encounters with mythical beings; however, one particular element of these tales stands out among the rest, that being the knights in the stories. Both chivalrous and virtuous, knights are the very embodiment of Arthurian mythology, and are a staple in many Arthurian legends. Their courageous acts of selflessness and loyalty to their lords only add to their reputation, inspiring many authors throughout the ages to capture their likeness in various texts; however, only one author has been able to truly capture what it means to be a knight, that author being the Gawain Poet. Also known as the Pearl Poet, the Gawain Poet is most known for his chivalric romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The story revolves around a central conflict in which the protagonist, Sir Gawain, must fulfill an agreement with a mysterious knight. Gawain s debt must be repaid exactly one year after their agreement, and if Gawain should fail to do so, his honor and reputation would be tarnished. It is through his struggles that Gawain not only grows as a character, but also shows what it means to truly be a knight. Sir Gawain is the epitome of a knight because he is not only chivalrous and virtuous, but also stays true to his word in the face of danger. Countless Arthurian tales portray knights as true altruists, meaning that they are more concerned for the

  • 10. Probation Parole And Parole For The Year 2013 In 2014 the Bureau of Justice Statistics released a report regarding probation and parole for the year 2013, the most recent year for which data is available. The report noted that by the end of that year there were an estimated 4,751,400 adults serving probation or parole; women accounted for 25% (Herberman Bonczar, 2014). The number of women on probation and paroledoubled between 1990 and 2003, which led to research into the best practices for women offenders (Sydney, 2005). Education was also a factor of recidivism. Individuals who did not have a high school education were one and a half times more likely to return to prison (Matheson, Doherty, Grant, 2011; Wikoff, Linhorst Morani, 2012). Substance abuse is also a factor in recidivism rates. A sizable amount of prisoners met the DSM IV criteria for either drug dependence or abuse in 2004, with 45% of those in federal prison and 53% of those in state prison diagnosed (Karberg Mumola, 2006). The Survey of Inmates in State and Federal Correctional Facilities completed by the Bureau of justice Statistics in 2004 found that almost one third of state prisoners admitted that their crime was committed while they were under the influence of an illegal substance. It also found that one in every three inmates committed their crime to gain drug money (Karberg Mumola, 2006). Those who were at high risk for substance abuse were more likely to recidivate than those without drug issues (Wikoff, Linhorst, Morani, 2012). According to Yamatiani and Spieldnes (2011) the biggest issues faced by women exiting incarceration were stable housing and long term, legal employment. It was also noted that women suffer from issues such as sexual trauma and problems connecting with their children more often than their male counterparts (Bloom, Owen,
  • 11. Andrew Wiggin And Valentine Quotes In the novel Ender in Exile , by Orson Scott Card, the two characters I am comparing are Andrew Ender Wiggin and Valentine Wiggin, his sister. One similarity is that they are both very intelligent but in different things. Valentine is more aware of people s emotions and how to manipulate them as shown in the quote, Valentine s brilliantly perverse talent for demagoguery . She is able to manipulate people however she wants without them realizing they had been manipulated. Ender possesses a more general genius, and one that allows him to lead everyone greatly as shown by the quote, Who would hope to fool a genius like you? which was said to Ender. He was a tactical genius who win the war against the Fornics in the war for humanity s

We hypothesized that life regard, perceived social support and forgiveness would positively correlate with optimism, people who reported HIV symptoms would be less optimistic than people without HIV related symptoms and that our independent variables accounted for a significant proportion of variance in optimism. In his speech he tells us about some of the scary realisms of human trafficking. Ashton Kutcher starts off by telling Congress his position on the matter. After that, he tells us some statistics on human trafficking. He brings up a strong point on how foster homes and foster communities are prime government programs that help fuel the unloved soul of the foster child. Then, Ashton goes on to tell us some stories of young girls who were abused, raped, and tortured in human trafficking rings. Ashton Kutcher uses a lot of pathos in his speech so that his audience can feel sympathy to all the people who are trapped in the human trafficking industry. This helps him convey the severity of human trafficking. He tells us a specific example of one girl who was so used to the situation that she thought she was playing. • 15. Macklemore s Song Same Love Macklemore s song Same Love was nominated for Song of the Year at the 56th Grammy Awards and is no doubt one of the most popular and influential songs of 2012. Their song is meant as a protest of the gay and lesbian rights as well as his way of expressing his feelings towards the hip hop culture and their views on homosexuality. During Macklemore s life, he grew up with a gay uncle, however it was not just the problem with equality that powered the song. The obvious and outrageous use of the term gay in the hip hop world was utilized as a disparaging term also fueled the creation of Same Love. So many people have used and are still using words like that s gay and you re gay in casual everyday conversation and Macklemore feels like something needs to change. This wanted change is seen in his song where he hopes people will slowly remove these words from everyday convos and make people reconsider their usage of such derogative words and make them more aware.1... He simply cares because it is our time to create the change that is right.

Although the firm has been working on maximum efficiency, Tom Mathis has come up with a better solution to solve the problem. He plans to cut costs by purchasing supplies from overseas sellers. Mr. Mathis knew that this strategy would have increased the cost and time of delivery. The factory buyers should also take the time to investigate any potential new vendors. So he is using information technology to implement the program and to improve the process of inventory restocking. (Larenernest, 2010) However, workers have been so accustomed to the Kanban system that it is difficult for them to change the system, so there is a high resistance to change among the business. In addition, it is well known that Microsoft managed to reduce inventory levels and increase production rates without significant investment in information technology. They settled with the traditional method of trying to adopt new methods and many operating firms were deliberately separated from the technology because the first thing the experts tell Kanban factory to do is to disconnect the Material Requirements Planning System (MRP). MRP is a system used to manage manufacturing processes in terms of production planning, scheduling, and inventory control. This causes another problem for Mr. Mathis since the firm does not have the internal resources needed to support the system that he wants to employ. (Carr, 2005) Question 2 From a

Such as, the type of situation the individual was in, whether they were in the correct state of mind, and /or what led the accused person to commit the offence. I found that the Well has a big space that is not being used, and there is only six benches in total. When I was annotating my notes, I felt that the Well feels empty and obsolete as there weren t a lot of people using the space except for getting to classes. Also, the western area of the well is a popular route that many people go through. I found that most people go through the south side of the building instead of the north side of the building. I feel there should be an equal flow between the south and north side of the building to ease up the flow, and promote safety for all. My third observation is that the

If the Forest Service were to have well trained employees mark living trees that were too close together and would be appropriate to be removed, effectively thinning out the denser areas of the forest, people that have purchased woodcutting permits could cut down the marked trees. The most predominant downsides to cutting down a living tree is that it is significantly heavier that a dead tree would be and that it would need to dry out for about a year to actually be able to be burned in a fireplace or woodstove. A potential incentive would be to allow an unlimited amount of cords to be acquired throughout the year and to allow for the personal sale of the wood that is cut. If the Eldorado were to adopt these guidelines, as each forest is allowed to set and regulate their own woodcutting standards, this would be effective in suppressing future fires by thinning out the forest, at no additional cost to the forest service, aside from the wages paid to the employees marking the trees. The long term benefits of

This quote is expressing how Tan felt toward the things her mother made her do and the things that came from her always following her mother s orders . This is important to note because, her whole life she looked up to her mother and always listened but after she was embarrassed in front of a large crowd and her mother kept pressing her to do better and to do things he didn t want to, she was influenced to do everything she could to defy her mother rather than have a peaceful and normal relationship with her. College used to be difficult to achieve, you go to college and people look up to you. The answer to all of this, Financial Aid, the government will pay for your college tuition based on your family s income. As the third king in the Lancaster family line, King Henry was descendent of the old, aristocratic Angevin dynasty which reigned in England from 1154 to 1485, beginning with King Henry II of Plantagenet. The family dynasty began in the region of Anjou and the dynasty s expansion into Europe was considered its golden age (Vauchez, A et al. 2000:65). Similarly, Caesar too came from an old, aristocratic family that had patrician roots. In his infamous speech made at his Aunt Julia s funeral, Caesar illustrated how the Julia gens claimed ancestry from Aeneas, son of Aphrodite saying ...while the Julians...descend from the goddess Venus herself... The response was overwhelming. With the cry Deus vult! ( God wills it ), thousands took the cross. Bands of poorly armed pilgrims, most of them inexperienced and poor, set out for Constantinople under Peter the Hermit and Walter the Penniless even before the army gathered. Some began by massacring Jews in the Rhine valley. Many perished on there way east, and the rest were destroyed by the Muslims when they crossed into Anatolia. But making the wireless wallet a reality will require an evolution of both technology and consumer attitudes that is still far in the distance. I will explore my personal thoughts of God, humanity and Jesus, as well as reflect on Christian worldview. Inherently, the focus of God is love and to respect His authority is to love Him. Learning to worship God as Trinity involves more than just searching for creative techniques. We need to know about the nature of our triune God if we are to worship him and enjoy him properly (Shaw 79). Often when I feel discouraged, the instinct is to blame God, the creator of everything. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own selfishness, that I forget all the things God has done, not just for me, but also for the world. His mercy is compassionate love for sinners who do not deserve the redemption in Christ that he offers. His grace likewise speaks of his free favor granted to sinners (Shaw 81). I am also reminded that God is transcendent. He surpasses time and money, earth and space. God is so important, that metaphors are constantly referred to as representing God: God is a rock, God is the light, God is the bread, God is a fortress, God is the potter and we are the clay (GCU text). According to the text, creation and humanity are the work of a triune God. Creation includes the entire activity of God. In creation all three persons are at work simultaneously, including the Holy Spirit (Gen 1:2) and the Word (John 1:1) (Chapter 5). 3 Studies of Jesus primarily focus on the duality of Jesus and how he is able to be both human and divine at once. This subject was disputed at the Council of Chalcedon in the year 451 between the

Based on my week, I spend the bulk of my time on school associated activities. This was not a surprise to me, what I was surprised by was the small amounts of time that I devote to my religion. Although I attend seminary, read my scriptures, and pray everyday, the accumulative time of all on these activities adds to just over an hour a day. I am quite aware of how I spend my time, it is very unusual for me to lay around and waste time of useless tasks. 2. Based on my week, I can only largely identify two main values from exercise #1: knowledge and service. This makes sense because I spend 32 hours sitting in class a week. This doesn t include time spent on homework or other corresponding activities. Something that did not make too large of an appearance was my spirituality. I will admit that my scripture studies and other related activities were extremely diminished this week. But it is to be expected that my religion isn t quite as evident within my daily schedule because it isn t practical to spend over 4 hours a day reading scriptures, there simply isn t enough time. True spirituality is seen through more subtle actions than in extravagant activities that draw large amounts of attention. With this considered, I do still need to increase the amount of time I spend improving my

William Holman Hunt The Awakening Conscience, 1853 1854, Oil on canvas, presented by Sir Colin and Lad Anderson through the Friends of the Tate Gallery, 1976 Hunt s The Awakening Conscience depicts a moment of salvation, a spiritual message embedded in a composition dense with symbolism. A kept woman, on hearing the song her lover has been singing, realizes her mistaken ways and rises from his lap. The sentimental lyrics reminded her of lost innocence; she looks out from the dark, gaudily furnished apartment that has been set up for their trysts, toward the light of the garden, reflected in the large gilded mirror behind her. The fallen woman was a shocking subject, but it fascinated many painters. Including Rossetti, who addressed the controversial theme in a poem and a number of drawings. 3. Comparing Burke And Wills Introduction/Background Information Burke and Wills both came from very different backgrounds, but despite this, they both found themselves in Australia attempting to explore the continent from South to North. Robert O Hara Burke was born in Count Galway, Ireland, in 1821, he was the second of three sons of James and Anne Burke. After leaving school he decided to migrate to Australia and in 1853 he entered the Victorian Police force. Then in 1860 he was appointed the commanding officer of the exploration expedition to cross Australia from South to North (Fitzpatrick, 2015). Having not been in the field of exploring and having no experience as a leader of an expedition it was quite puzzling how he was appointed the principal of such a significant operation. On the other hand John William Wills was born in 1834 in Devon, England, he was an only child to William and Sarah Wills. For instance, people in this society can have breakfast ready instantly since their smart home learns their routinely behavior. In a society where people have smart homes, they are being moral for the greater good which stands in the face of the ethical theory of Virtue. Having a smart home will end up reducing the production and consumption of goods of regular houses such as wood and appliances. This reduces the carbon footprint left behind by humans. Both of these thinkers developed their thoughts while Athens and Florence, their respective cities, faced political unrest. By questioning the people of Athens through their period of turmoil following a shift in government, Socrates was able to formulate opinions regarding how a government should operate and how people should rule. Centuries later during the Renaissance era, Machiavelli s Italy was in a divided state with the Medici family holding rule over his native Florence. Socrates would view Machiavelli s prince as unnecessarily strict and limiting to the knowledge that people crave to possess. Machiavelli s leanings towards the state over the individual starkly contrast Socrates quest for individual knowledge through questioning. Throughout his trial in Athens and when facing execution, Socrates solidly stuck beside his belief that life without this sort of examination is not worth living (Apology, 38a). Socrates deeply believed in philosophy. He spent his whole life seeking wisdom through moral and political questions and even when addressing a jury with the possibility of execution looming over him he declared I shall never stop practicing philosophy and exhorting you and indicating the truth for everyone (Apology, 29d). The truth and the means of finding it were the most important thing to Socrates. Even though questioning was Socrates way to achieve power, he still believed in following the law. Practicing free speech and resisting political tyranny are not harmful as long as they fall within the constraints of the law. In explaining to Crito why escaping execution was not an option, Socrates questions Crito saying, Do you imagine that a city can continue to exist and not be turned upside down, if the legal judgements which are pronounced in it have no force but are nullified and destroyed (Crito, 50b). In refusing to escape his death sentence Socrates proves his
