Essay On Real Estate Training
Who?
Who can and who should take the real estate training or course?
Practically anyone who wants to make a career in the property industry can choose to go for the
training. If one feels that they can carve their niche in the property sector and have what it takes to
excel in the profession, a good real estate course will be of crucial importance.
Amid the current financial recession when all industries appear to be toppling, property industry is
still somewhat stable. Although there is an evident slowdown in the industry, yet it is growing. So
the requirement for real estate professionals has not eroded and every property company needs a
property professional. Today, when career opportunities in other professions show a great deal of...

Analysis of the Theme of Survival in Auschwitz Essay
Survival in Auschwitz tells of the horrifying and inhuman conditions of life in the Auschwitz
death camp as personally witnessed and experienced by the author, Primo Levi. Levi is an Italian
Jew and chemist, who at the age of twenty five, was arrested with an Italian resistance group and
sent to the Nazi Auschwitz death camp in Poland in the end of 1943. For ten terrible months, Levi
endured the cruel and inhuman death camp where men slaved away until it was time for them to
die. Levi thoroughly presents the hopeless existence of the prisoners in Auschwitz, whose most
basic human rights were stripped away, when in Chapter 2 he states, Imagine now a man who is
deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits,... Show more content

In Chapter 6, Levi tells how Kapos, beat us from pure bestiality and violence, but others beat us
when we are under a load almost lovingly, accompanying the blows with exhortations, as cart
drivers do with willing horses (67). A further aspect of Survival in Auschwitz that reinforces the
dehumanizing effect of the death camp on the Jewish prisoners is the constant presence of
hunger and starvation among the prisoners. Food and its acquisition and consumption are a
constant topic that Primo Levi discusses because it constantly occupied the minds of most
prisoners. Levi states, We have learnt the value of food; now we also diligently scrape the
bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under our chins when we eat bread so as not
to lose the crumbs (33). Bread and soup are the only things prisoners in the camp receive and
whether you are served soup from the top or the bottom is of great importance. The prisoners
would try to get soup from the bottom half of the vat because soup from the upper portion is
mostly watery broth whereas soup from the bottom portion contains more vegetables pieces (33).
The insatiable desire for food would lead prisoners to act in very animalistic ways. Upon waking up
in the morning, prisoners would quickly make their beds and then run to the latrines urinating while
they run to save time, because within five minutes begins the

The Dolphin Free Tuna Dilemma
Introduction In this paper I will focus on the dolphin free TUNA dilemma (case from 1991
GATT) where several countries (that imported into the US) called for a review of policies in
place by the US protectionist trade policies on tuna production and the free trade agreements
under GATT. Furthermore, I will discuss what the results of the case was, what implication it has
on the global economy and what role the GATT/WTO has had in this policy. I will briefly
compare it to the policies that the EU have in place to prevent mad cow disease tainted meat from
coming into the EU. This is a take on different policies, about the process to produce a product, why
the countries would want to prevent the importation of it and subsequently what... Show more

This is important because schools (groups) of Tuna fish swim underneath school of dolphins.
The US looks to collaborate with trading partners to cooperate with this Act and help enforce it.
Countries Oppose US Regulations On Process Case #1 In 1990, Tuna from several countries,
(which included Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, etc.) was banned from the US (in the
form of imports). In other words, the US set an embargo for light skin tuna sales from these
countries. Mexico and Venezuela challenged the US action and took it to the GATT. The decision
was in their favor and in 1991 and 1992 both the countries cases were resolved through an outside
settlement. The decision was not binding until after the Uruguay Round and adopted by the
countries then. Countries Oppose US Regulations On Labeling Case #2 Later there was a second
case that arose of third world countries (including Mexico) importing Tuna and Tuna products from
other countries that did not meet the MMPA agreement. This was also dismissed by the GATT,
under the same assumptions that other countries could not dictate how other countries use their
natural resources and prevented free flow of trade. This second case was led by Mexico, and a
complaint about discriminatory labels on tuna product packaging that led consumers to believe the

Disability In Freaks
The film Freaks was released in the early 20th century by Tod Browning and it definitely caught
the eyes of everyone because of its risky and unusual cast. The lecture notes state that the movie
was pulled by MGM and was not shown in mainstream theaters until 1960 because of the negative
reactions of the viewers. This filmhad representations of a mixture of class and disability that was
not fit to be shown at the time of the early 20th century. Freaks illustrates disability mainly and at
first displays deficiencies as being monstrous by showing the people screaming once seeing one of
the disabled humans at the very beginning. However, by the first ten minutes in the movie it is
obvious that the freaks are just like normal people but with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Janet Zandry who is the author of Decloaking Class: Why Class Identity and Consciousness
Count , defines class as an experience of shared economic circumstances and shared social and
cultural practices in relation to positions of power (Zandry 103). The film the Freaks illustrates
class by showing Cleo and the other people without disabilities as part of a group who share the
same social practices like how they think they are better than the freaks and how they think it is
okay to steal from and hurt them. The normal group all believed the same; they thought of
themselves as higher class and that they were in charge. The scene that really stood out and
showed the class differences was when Cleo and Hercules had a dinner with the freaks . The
freaks tried to invite Cleo into their group by passing around a drink that all the disabled drank
out of while chanting one of us, one of us. Once the cup got to Cleo, she freaked out and threw
the drink in one of their face. She was showing that she is not part of their class group and it made
her upset that they even would consider her part of them. This scene is a good indicator of how the
people in America during the 20th century thought as themselves as better than the disabled people
and did not want to think of themselves as equal to

Amusing Ourselves To Death Neil Postman Analysis
In 1985, when Neil Postman penned, Amusing Ourselves to Death, CNN, and the twenty four hour
news cycle existed in its infancy and televangelism was still unscathed by the Jim Baker and Jimmy
Swaggart scandals. A B movie actor sat in the Oval Office. Conceivably most importantly,
television, the love child of the photograph and the telegraph, had reached maturity to become fully
entrenched in American culture after thirty some years (p. 100). Newscasters, preachers, and
politicians had become celebrities. The information presented on the tube was deficient in
meaningful content and lacked context. Nevertheless, the public s level of amusement rode high.
Televisions capacity to manipulate public persona and information on the news, in religion, and in
politics creates a vaudeville atmosphere on these modes of public discourse.
First, when it comes to the news, Postman raises the fact that television is a business that sells its
time in minutes and seconds. While the thirty minute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hostage Crisis still fresh in the minds of an early mid eighties audience. Even though the crisis was
on the news nightly for around a year, most people had no knowledge of basic information about
the Iranians. Yet, nearly everyone had an opinion, mostly based on the emotion based on watching
the news and being informed . Perhaps this is better described as disinformation, not false or untrue,
but fragmented, irrelevant and misleading. This is the inevitable result of TV news packaging

Advantages Of Voluntourism
Reading Between the Lines Voluntourism Topic tourism: Should Voluntourism trips be
discouraged? It is not uncommon to see on Facebook selfies taken by youths with village
children some half naked some fully naked. Teaching English in Schools, building a basketball
court, painting beautiful murals on the walls of new schools and distributing food and healthcare
packs to the villages are some activities that are commonly included in the itinerary of such
Voluntourism trips. In the recent years, there are a growing number of youths who take a gap year
to volunteer overseas. Voluntourism can be defined as a form of tourism in which travelers
participate in voluntary work to help communities or the environment in the places they are
visiting (dictionary.com). In the context of Singapore, such trips are normally termed as Overseas
Service Learning Trips (OSLP). They are usually organized by schools to bring students abroad to
broaden the students world view (Poh, 2014) and serve the community there. I have chosen three
articles on the effects on Voluntourism. In this essay, I will be taking a closer look at the arguments
presented and critic and improve on the current system of Voluntourism. Firstly, a broad over

Developing A Schedule. Where Do You Begin To Prepare Your
Developing a schedule
Where do you begin to prepare your advertising schedule? The best point of reference is the
creative or advertising brief. Here, you will be given a direction on how long the campaign should
run for, when it should begin and when it should end, along with other relevant information. You
may choose to run it over days, weeks, months or even years.
Regardless of which option you select, the length and timing of the campaign will be determined by
the targets set by the original brief and the budget.
If there is any doubt about how long the campaign should run for, it is best to go back to the team
that created the original brief and seek clarification.
The next step in developing the schedule is to ensure that your ... Show more content on

The account executive debriefs the art director and copywriter, who then direct the assembly of the
ad. This may require a fashion shoot by a reputable fashion photographer, a model, make up artist,
wardrobe artist, props, and lighting assistants.
The finished artwork is assembled digitally in the digital studio by a graphic designer, under the
direction of the art director. Once the ad is completed and proofed, it goes back to the client for
final approval and sign off. The production department sends the approved ad directly to the
magazine, electronically, to their production department.
The double page ad appears in the December edition of the magazine.
As shown in the example above, there are a lot of moving parts to producing a simple ad. With so
many moving parts, there are a number of opportunities for things to go wrong or fall behind
schedule, this is why proper planning and scheduling, along with constant follow up with each of
the people involved in the process, is critical to the success of any advertising campaign.
Identifying relevant service providers
Which service providers will you need to achieve your advertising objectives? This will depend on
the type of campaign you are running and the media you select. As we saw in the previous section,
service providers may include:

в—Џphotographers
в—Џmedia planning/buying agencies

lowering the emotional heightened state. Once this has been accomplished, therapists will
encourage couples to identify the vulnerabilities in their relationship. These vulnerabilities likely

Building A Waddell A-Truss Bridge
Building a Waddell A Truss Bridge
Introduction:
Bridges have been used for thousands of years, beginning with natural formations, such as huge
rock arches (Appendix A). The first bridges made by humans were most likely simple spans of
wooden tree trunks laid across streams, or planks, such as rafts tied together (Gascoigne, 2001).
These simple designs evolved over time, as new materials became available, to form the hundreds
of bridges we use today. Some basic bridge designs include truss, arch, beam and suspension
bridges. The most basic of these is the beam bridge (Appendix B1), which consists of a deck,
spanning a relatively short distance, that is held up by a pair of abutments (vertical supports at
either end). When weight is placed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that it excessively designed, and can create excessive burdens on the cost, size and
complexity (Sade, 2014). When designing large bridges, these three factors (excessive cost, size
and complexity) regulate if a bridge is built, or if a different design is chosen. The Waddell A
truss bridge (Appendix C) is a truss bridge designed by engineer John Alexander Low Waddell. It
was built in 1898, as a short span railway bridge, and is one of only two bridges remaining which
had the A truss design. Due to its high trusses, it is quite rigid in all directions, and it is easily
erected as it has a simple design (Syazwi, 2013). These are some of the reasons why the Waddell
a truss design was chosen. It is simple to create out of the materials which can be used (Manila
folders) as it consists of beams and bars, as well as some gusset plates (Appendix C). Not only
this, but the design allows it to hold quite a large amount of weight, in spite of the fact that a
folder is not necessarily strong. However when folded, it may be surprising how much a small
piece of card can actually hold. Manila folders were used to create this bridge because they are
inexpensive, easy to cut bend and glue, have surprisingly predictable structural behaviour and can
be used to build tubes, bars and strong

Osteoporosis And How It Begins
Osteoporosis and How It Begins
Common fractures that occur in the spine, hips, and wrist are frequently related to osteoporosis.
Sometimes mild stressors such as coughing or bending over may cause a fracture of brittle and
weakened bones related to osteoporosis. Bone is live tissue that is continuously damaged and
repaired.
Out with the Old, In With the New
Osteoporosis takes place when the removal rate of the old bone tissue is faster than the
formation of new bone. Normally in the beginning stages of bone loss there are no symptoms
exhibited. When weakness has developed in the bones due to osteoporosis, some signs and
symptoms that appear are: height loss, forward bent posture, back pain or fractures that occur
easily. Bones are regenerated continuously, the aged bone is destroyed as the new bone is
created. As the body ages, and the process of old bones being broken down occurs at a quicker
rate than new bone being formed, this process decreases bone mass. The chances of developing
osteoporosis is influenced by the amount of bone mass developed in adolescent years. An elevated
bone mass at peak level indicates the amount of bone present and indicates that you have less
chances to develop osteoporosis with age (Mayo Clinic, 2014).
Bone Density Test
A common test used to determine the health of bones is a Bone Mineral Density (BMD) test. This
test can detect osteoporosis, risks for fractures, and assess treatment response. A dual energy x ray
absorptiopmetry (DXA) test is

Model Of Christian Charity
A Model of Christian Charity is a sermon written in 1630 by John Winthrop, a Puritan leader. The
Way to Wealth is an essay written in 1758 by Benjamin Franklin. Winthrop gives his sermon on
the Arbella while its members are sailing for the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the New World.
Franklin s essay consists of proverbs and advice given throughout his yearly almanac titled Poor

argues that success can be achieved through a sense of community; however, Franklin believes that
success can be attained through individual industry and frugality. In A Model of Christian Charity ,

People cannot be lazy if they want to be wealthy. Franklin states, Sloth makes all things difficult,
but industry all things easy, and that riseth late must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his
business at night, while laziness travels so slowly that poverty soon overtakes him (Franklin
458 459). Franklin believes that being lazy will not lead to success, it will only lead to poverty.
Someone attains success though individual industry. This is a central belief in Franklin s essay.
A person must be motivated and not idle if they want to achieve success. Franklin writes, Early
to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise (Franklin 459). Through this
quote, Franklin articulates that being productive will help a person reach success. Besides
individual industry, Franklin believes that another way of achieving success is through
frugality. Being wise with money is a key aspect in attaining success. Franklin says, If you
would know the value of money, go and try to borrow some, for, he that goes a borrowing goes a
sorrowing (Franklin 461). Someone who keeps borrowing money and is unable to pay that
money back is not responsible and frugal. Franklin also says, Beware of little expenses; a small

inhibit black Americans to be a part of the society. Although it was a very hard fought battle
between southern whites and African Americans, there were some black nationalists that helped

The Attacks On The World Trade Center
Many people remember where they were, what they were doing, and how they reacted to the
news of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Questions running through people s minds would
be who was responsible for this, and how could we let something this dreadful happen to this
great nation of ours. About 14 years ago the United States was not involved in any type of war,
believe it or not, ISIS did not exist, and people were not aware of the Islamic terrorist group, al

than what it is today, and airport security was extremely lenient. September 11th, 2001 marks a

coming from Boston, crashed into the side of the north tower. This was the first of four planes that
were hijacked on 9/11. Most people who witnessed the first collision thought it was only a small
commuter plane that accidentally crashed. However, seventeen minutes later, the second plane,

convictions (179). Indeed, these tactics used by the FBI crippled and eventually broke up the BPP
Party.
In the same way, the FBI s actions were not solely responsible for the BPP s demise. In fact,
various BPP mistakes caused its own downfall. The most serious structural flaw in the BPP was
the way it carried out operations. Party members who openly worked in BPP offices or organized
in the community daily, were the same people who carried out underground armed operations at
night. Naturally, this provided the police with a convenient excuse to make raids on any BPP
offices or the homes of the members. Such raids forced the party to make stationary defenses of the
BPP offices. Unfortunately, since there was no separation between the daily operations and the
underground armed apparatus, the Party became doomed.
In addition, although the BPP was proficient at the art of propaganda making very good use of its
own and the establishment s media, too many Panthers still fell into the habit of making boisterous
claims in the public media that they could not back up.

Scottsboro Trial
In Scottsboro, Alabama, March 9, 1931 nine African american boys, Olen Montgomery, Clarence
Norris, Haywood Patterson, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Charles Weems, Eugene Williams,
Andy Wright, and Roy Wright were incriminated of rapeing two white women on the subway. As
they were accused of raping Ruby Bates and Victoria Price they were put on trial. This trail was
long and unfair. On the train the boys were evidently taken away by the sheriff, once Ruby told a
posse member (sheriff/police) of what went on. They were taken to the jail, Ruby and Victoria told
the jail, they should be lynched as their chastisement. Twenty minutes after the train had been
stopped, one of the women, Ruby Bates, called over a posse member and told him that she... Show

This caused many rallies, riots, peaceful protest. This case informs us now because it also tells
us how bad they were treated back then, the people believed the girls because they were white,
and mostly overlooked the boys because they were black. So to end this long unfair trial, they

A And The American Dream
A Xicano and The American Dream Is the American Dream something that is feasible for the
son of two immigrant parents? Watching my parents try to climb up the ranks of their job and
society, in general, in the most honest way, only to just be met with racist legislation, police
brutality, racial profiling, and exploitation, I have come to the conclusion that the American
Dream is a fallacy. I ve seen too many people beat and killed by the system; too many people of
color systemically beat down and killed. I have had too many friends fall victim to the prison
system. I have worked too many years in the strawberry, blackberry, and blueberry fields. I am
tired of seeing my people suffer; it is time for me to help. I want to become a teacher and
hopefully, someday, become a lawyer. The circumstances that led me to the path that I am on
started long before I was born. My father came to the U.S when he was 14 years old. I wish I could
say that he was still a kid, but he wasn t he was treated like a man. He was expected to work the
blazing hot summer fields and the terribly cold winter fields like a grown man is expected to
work. He was expected to provide for his three brothers and three sisters like a grown man is
expected to provide for his family. There wasn t time to play outside with the other children, paint,
draw, or even go to school; there was only time to work and provide. At age 19, he married my
mother and they had my oldest sister. He undertook

Hag Seed Analysis
Unexpected occurrences take place that are negative, and these might be things which one does not
have control over. Authors often use internal struggles as a mental imprisonment that one much
conquers in order to achieve their full potential. In Hag Seed, Felix is backstabbed, kicked out of
his job as the director of the Makeshiweg theater festival, and put on his journey to prove to those
who betrayed him that they were wrong but most importantly he has to show himself that he can
overcome the harsh obstacles of failure and rejection. The psychotic break Felix suffers after his
termination, and Mirandas death, motivates him to direct The Tempest, which ultimately heals him.
With the acceptance that his career, in his mind, is over, Felix leaves the theater and consumed
with revenge. Humiliated, he retreats from society. Alone in a tiny hut, he mourns his lost little
girl, Miranda, who died not long before he was ousted from his position, and he plots his
revenge on his replacement, Tony Price. Refusal to tackle the situation head on leads to a path
of self wallowing. Felix s mind is clouded with possibilities of how he can hurt Tony because
forgiving takes more work and effort. He starts to realize that his spying is a little deranged,
though only a little (Atwood 44). With hopes of bettering himself, Felix searches for a job hoping
to gain control back to his life. He could not have found a more suitable position. He starts his own
theatre with the inmates who are

Application Of Using An Application For A Communication...
Any user using an application in a communication network will expect the quality of the application
to be high without annoying interruptions or delays. In mobile environments due to user mobility,
interference and varying channel conditions lead to a variation of the available network resources
which ultimately affects application quality. An approach named over the top (OTT) virtual access
network allows the aggregation of multiple wireless networks into a single IP pipe to provide users
with more bandwidth.
So how do you define bandwidth? Bandwidth is a measurement of bit rate of available or
consumed data communication resources expressed in bits per second or multiples of it in
computer networking and computer science [1] The aim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today s smartphones are equipped with at least two access technologies, e.g. Wi Fiand Cellular

network based on UDP tunneling, which has been widely used in Mobile IP or for VPN (Virtual

In order to minimize the energy consumption at the end device and the usage of the Cellular

The contribution of this paper is in two ways. We define three algorithms in the OTT VAN
architecture which take application type or application quality into account. The objective is to
address the application demands to achieve an effective network. We need evaluate these
algorithms on a scenario basis. We will have to investigate a user watching a YouTube video clip
under varying video quality, while both Cellular and Wi Fi networks are available. We can evaluate
the user aware quality, Cellular usage, and power consumption of the device using test bed
measurements. Cell phones get the energy from the batteries which is needed for their operation.

Louisa May Alcott Transcendentalism
Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 in Germantown, Pennsylvania where she was taught by her
father who was a transcendentalist philosopher. She studied informally with other authors such
as Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker. She has been publishing
since 1851 poems, short stories, thrillers and juvenile tales. Her most popular novel was Little
Women published in 1868. From what I read in a biography, she transformed her father s story
Fruitland to make it look like the woman was the hero. It says in the article that she: makes her
own creation out of his Fruitland s story, feminizes it, making the mother the hero and the father
the fool . I feel like Louisa wanted to mock her father s story by telling her own that... Show more

Mrs. Hope said that with their new beliefs it created tension between them, they turned away
from the family. For the family it was the Utopia, but the others outside were not ready to be in
such place as they say: The world was not ready for Utopia yet, and those who attempted to
found it only got laughed at for their pains. . Utopia is an ideal place or a visionary system of
political or social perfection. With the transcendental movement everyone has to follow a routine.
They would all wake up at the same time every day, take baths, eat at the same time, have
meaningful conversations, get back to work and finish work the evening came. Within the
community there are beliefs so it is not just one person thinking in a different way, but a group of
people. It is a transcendental movement because they choose to live and believe in different things
than the rest of the world, but within the community they all have to think the same way, someone
cannot be self reliant on his own. From what I understand, the children were allowed to do what
they wanted, and members in the community were allowed to express their feeling freely, in other
community this not accepted if it is not intellectual or spiritual thinking. People should not express
their feelings freely and should speak in a very kind way, one youth did the opposite in Fruitland.

Analysis Of Stop All The Clocks
W. H. Auden s poem, Stop all the clocks, expresses the meaning of massive grief, a tragic loss,
and a tireless hopelessness best represented in the last lines, For nothing now can ever come to
any good. Personally the mood of the poem felt a bit depressing and a sadness that I know all too
well. The title and first line of the poem explains the author s heartbroken grief by including the
audience to do something which we all know is not possible, Stop all the clocks. This itself let
us know that time could not be stopped, yet when a loved one has pass it feels like at that
particular time we don t want to believe that the love of our life is gone. So we want the clocks to
stop. The time could also signify to the deathand shortness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The funeral parade described in lines 7 and 8 serves to further represent both the importance of
the deceased and the grief caused by this person s death. The third verse, especially lines 9, 10,
and 11, again bring the closeness of the relationship between the author and the deceased. The
author shows great respect for this person by using overstatement, figure of speech to imply how
important this person meant to the author. In line 9, He was my North, my South, my East and
West, indicates the intimacy between the two individuals and incorporated with the next line,
My working week and my Sunday rest, indicates their relationship to be of a very devoted nature.
This is also stated in line 12, I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong. This can be
interpreted to represent the speaker s unawareness toward an inescapable death. The author s
love for this man is very rare as he can describe it, to the points of end of time. This love between
them is so strong that anyone reading this poem would believe their love will last forever, but as
you read on you realize not until the death of this person that he loved; was the realization made
that this thing called love, like everything else, must and will come to an end. The last verse mainly

Human Security And National Security
Too often, the notion/concept of national security is misinterpreted and made too narrow. It s a
common belief of many that national security only entails the protection of states borders from
outside threats. In recent times, this seems to not be the case, since the dangers that states faces
now threatens the life of the individual, therefore, protection of the citizens, their wellbeing, and the
laws of the land becomes a priority which links it or makes it human security. States like the US are
adjusting their foreign policies to fit this new human security as national security approach. Also,
with the world becoming a small global village, states are using less military force to settle
dispute. They are reducing the amount of violence they use against one another. Everyone seems
to be embracing the notion of peace rather than war and I believe this is so because nations do not
want to go back to the hostility and instability of the Cold Warera. Using the United Statesforeign
policies (past and current) regarding terrorism, I will be analyzing how they fit or do not fit into the
spectrum of human security as national security.
According to Roland Paris, human security does not have one explicit definition. Different nations
and organization define this concept differently; each according to its view, policies, interests, and
goals. Paris compared the concept to standard developmental goals, in the sense that though most (if
not all) nations desire it, only a few knows

Quotes From The Messenger
Messenger changed me in several ways. I would recommend this book to Taiya because I know
she is reading the series and I want to encourage her to persevere, so I can have someone to talk
about with. The first lesson I learned was that you have to face evil and destroy it, you can t let
it slowly seep into you and others because it spreads like wildfire. This occurred throughout the
novel, especially with the village as a whole and mentor. I believe that Trademaster was created
to prove this point by Lois Lowry, evil and sin are sinister and will slowly creep into you and
that s why you have to be on the lookout. Mentor is a prime example of this done wrong during

Impact Of Human Geography
The Impact Of Human Geography
Does physical or human geography have more of an impact on lives? The question has been
asked by many geographers and there are many strong examples for both sides. Human geography
plays a greater role in human development by changing the way people act by being more obedient
and having freedom and having a cultures that are unique , while physical geography is the outside
environment. The outside environment is not as important since humans are sheltered in homes.
People s culture make people s lifestyle different and unique. Cultural convergence is when one
culture comes in contact with another. This makes people have more diverse and and modern
cultures. Cultural convergence helps the spread of culture, like sports, which has led to the
development of the Olympics. The opposite of cultural convergence is cultural divergence, which is
the restriction of a culture coming in contact to other cultures and other influences. Because of
cultural divergence, there are still pure cultures, like in Africa. These cultures had to make

A dictatorship is a type of government where one person leads the territory, and this person is

Although tooth decay is largely preventable, it s still the most common chronic disease in children.
And while fluoride plays a key role in strengthening tooth enamel and preventing decay, parents

Benefits vs Cost of Fluoride Treatments

If a physician was called, death was inevitable (42). My grandmother wholeheartedly disagrees with
Abel s ideas. She trusted her doctor literally with her life. Emily Abel emphasizes that doctors
proved to remain unreliable and costly. She illustrates the difficulties of summoning a physician;
transportation difficulties not only delayed doctors arrivals but also prevented them from
providing continuing care (41). My grandmother lived in a different kind of situation. The town
she resided in consisted of almost all relatives; where as in Abel s stories, the doctor most likely
would be required to travel long distances to provide care. Transportation served as a significant
challenge that prevented care from being rendered in a timely fashion, especially if major trauma

True Grit Analysis
St. George, South Carolina claims to be the Grits Capital of the World , eating more pounds of
grits per capita than any place else in the world. Grit, what is it? Well it can be food or a
personality trait, depending on how you look at it. This question is underlined in the novel True
Grit. This idea of grit comes from the book True Gritby Charles Portis, about a 14 yr. old girl,
Mattie Ross, who has come to find someone with grit to avenge her father. She hires a U.S
Marshall named Rooster Cogburn who brings along a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf to help her
capture and/or kill her father s murderer, named Tom Chaney. Through this story Portis explores
characters who have grit and those who lack it. Several definitions of grit are brought... Show more

In my opinion someone with true grit is not being pitiless, tough and fearless. Mattie reiterates
this grit description by telling him, They tell me you are a man with true grit (Portis 59). I
disagree with Mattie on this one, to me there are other traits of true grit shown later that describe
the meaning of grit better. This tells us that Rooster has a grit that is different from Mattie s grit
shown in the book, and that grit can also mean being harsh, resilient and fearless. Rooster and
them finally run into the gang that Chaney is in, led by Lucky Ned Pepper. At this point Ned s
gang has left Chaney with Mattie, to cash their stolen goods when La Boeuf and Rooster come
to halt them in their tracks. La Boeuf knocks Chaney out while Rooster challenges the band of
four bandit s head on, like so, He took the reins in his teeth and pulled the other saddle revolver
and drove his spurs into the flanks of his strong horse and charged directly at the bandits (Portis
201). This action quote is my favorite display of Rooster s true grit because he shows it as being
bold and courageous. Rooster kills all but one, by means of this action he illustrates grit in his
boldness, strength and roughness by literally gritting his teeth together to perform this act of
true grit. After this event, Mattie is poisoned by a snake bite and Rooster shows grit again by
risking many things, including his hat, Rooster lost his hat and never looked back (Portis 215).
I have a favorite hat and would be sad to lose it, so for me this shows that Rooster s meaning of grit
changed. If it wasn t for his care about Mattie, he probably would have turned back for his hat. He
did it to save Mattie s life, displaying a different type of grit, one of valor, resolution and care of
her. While Rooster showed us more sides to grit, La Boeuf surprisingly proved that even Texas

The Issue of Prayer in Schools
Often, as was the case of the abolition of slavery in our country, it seems that courts ratified change
that had already occurred in the ethos of the national culture and consciousness of the nation after
the tide had already turned. This is the case with the issue of prayer in schools and the separation of
church and state in general.
As much as the history of court cases is good evidence for the separation of church and state and
with it the denial of prayer in schools, supporters of prayer in public schools can and do make the
argument that the intention of the Founding Father s of this nation was to form a nation centered
around prayer and Biblical instruction with it s accompanying values. Their understanding of
religious freedom was no doubt defined and acted out in the context of their culture and religious
influences. Courts of their day certainly did not push back against the integration of church and
state as we think of it today. Why else would the countries oldest and now most prestigious
institutions have their roots founded in the preparation of clergy for religious work? Harvard, Yale
and Princeton, among other great universities, were actually built for the purpose of raising up
educated pastors. Use the david lose inside quote Proponents of prayer in schools will no doubt

A. Urie Bronfenbrenner’S Ecological Systems Theory Looks
A. Urie Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory looks at the development of a child as
happening within an intricate system of relationships affected by various levels of their
environment. Bronfenbrenner called his theory a bioecological model because the child s
biological attributes mesh with the environment to further development. There are 5 different
systems that make up the child s surrounding environment. The distinct systems are the
microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and the chronosystem. The microsystem is
the first layer of the environment. It consists of the child s immediate surroundings and the direct
interactions involved within.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some examples include the parents workplaces, religious institutions, and even any place they
receive government help. Some more informal surroundings of the exosystem include the parents
social networks such as friends and extended family who provide advice, assistance, and friendship
to the parents. The fourth layer of the environment is the macrosystem. The macrosystem contains
cultural values, customs, resources, and laws. The more the macrosystem prioritizes children s
needs, the more support they get at the more inner levels of the environment. It also works the other
way around. For example, in countries that emphasize laws which give generous benefits to
employed parents or even laws that prioritize a higher standard of education, children see more
support and have more beneficial experiences in their immediate surroundings. The last system is
the chronosystem. According to Bronfenbrenner, the environment is a dynamic influence on a child
s development. There are always new environmental conditions being created for the child. The
timing of the ever changing environment also matters in terms of the child s circumstance and age
at the time of environmental change. The chronosystem consists of temporal environmental
changes and

Irony In Flannery O Connor s Good Country People
Unlike Alanis Morissette, Flannery O Connor used irony in a much subtler fashion in her work.
O Conner s unique use of literary tools is one reason she is considered one of the best short story
authors of the 20th century (Biography.com ). O Connor s use of irony is especially evident in
the short story Good Country People. Equally important is O Connor s use of clichГ©s. The
typical clichГ© lacks any substance. Ironically, clichГ©s expressed in Good Country People
depict abstract ideas. O Connor s unique combination of clichГ©s and irony forces readers discern
deeper concepts within the text. However, the readers ability to grasp these concepts hinges on
paying close attention to the character depictions of Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga Hopewell, and Manely
Pointer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hopewell s character is restricted to the use of clichГ©s such as that is life and nothing is perfect
(O Connor). Mrs. Hopewell s use of clichГ©s extends beyond dialogue. For Mrs. Hopewell,
clichГ©s represent her frame of mind. Mrs. Hopewell implies that she has an optimistic nature and
is always hoping for the best (Kirk 73). Although harmless on the surface, this perspective makes
Mrs. Hopewell blindly optimistic. Throughout the short story, Mrs. Hopewell correlates good
country people to the salt of the earth . Mrs. Freeman and her two daughters, Glynese and
Carramae, are her primary examples of good country people. Mrs. Hopewell does not miss an

Examples Of Sacrifice In The Poisonwood Bible
Sacrifice is one of the roots in life. To have one thing, another has to be sacrificed. Just like with
life, in order for one to live, another has to have a consequence. In Barbara Kingsolver s novel,
The Poisonwood Bible, Ruth May is the sacrificed soul to save the Price family. Because of her
death, Orleanna was able to finally snap out of her Nathan ruled trance. Orleanna was finally able
to grab Nathan by the horns and push back. Because of Ruth May, Orleanna was able to finally
break Nathan s hold on her and escape the torment. Because of Ruth May, the sacrifice, Orleanna is
able to break her inner feelings out to be the strong, young woman that she is painted to be. In the
beginning of the novel, Nathan told his family to pack their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When Nathan came back, life as a servant for Orleanna began. He ridiculed her and made her do
women work, essentially slave work. It took me a long time to understand the awful price I d
paid, and that even God has to admit the worth of freedom.[...] By then, I was lodged in the heart
of darkness, so thoroughly Fowler 1 bent to the shape of marriage I could hardly see any other
way to stand. ( 201) Here, Orleanna realizes what type of predicament she is in. She realizes that
Nathan is essentially making her his slave. She begins to fear Nathan even though that is not
what the Bible says about marriage. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is
not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not
rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes
all things, endures all things. (English Standard Version, 1 Corinthians 13:4 7) Nathan instead does
the opposite. He is arrogant, rude, irritable, resentful of their marriage, points out all of Orleanna s
wrongdoings, and it can be inferred that Nathan might hit his wife if she does something that he is
not appreciative of

The Morality of Capital Punishment Essay
The precise question at issue in this essay is the moral standing of capital punishment. Taking the
teachings of the largest Christian denomination (Catholic) as a starting point, some say that the
presentation of capital punishment in the Catechism of 1992 (#2266) differs surely in
restrictiveness from the teaching of the Catechism of 1566. And that the revised Catechism of 1997
is even more restrictive. Leet s examine these ane other aspects of the morality of capitalpunishment
.
The Catechism (1997) #2267 says, in part, ... the traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude
recourse to the death penalty, if this is the only possible way of effectively defending human lives
against the unjust aggressor.... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The penalties for murder and manslaughter were legislated as norms for you and all your
descendants, wherever you live (Nm 35:16 29).
This is seen as Old Testament justice but that justice is sometimes tempered with mercy,
prudence and even stated exceptions that are not so well remembered and rarely cited. For
example, no one was to kill the murderer Cain: If anyone kills Cain, Cain shall be avenged
sevenfold (Gn 4:15); and again, the great cry in Ezekiel: Answer them: As I live says the Lord
God, I swear I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, but rather in the wicked man s
conversion, that he may live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! (Ez 33:11).
Few took the latter two citations as a restriction on the community s right to execute a justly
condemned criminal. The same proved true of the Lord s reversal of the eye for an eye (life for life)
(Mt 5:38): But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on
your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well (Mt 5:39).
More prominent among Christian writers was their recollection and invocation of St. Paul s
defense of civil authority: for it (authority) is a servant of God for your good. But if you do evil, be
afraid, for it does not

  • 3. Analysis of the Theme of Survival in Auschwitz Essay Survival in Auschwitz tells of the horrifying and inhuman conditions of life in the Auschwitz death camp as personally witnessed and experienced by the author, Primo Levi. Levi is an Italian Jew and chemist, who at the age of twenty five, was arrested with an Italian resistance group and sent to the Nazi Auschwitz death camp in Poland in the end of 1943. For ten terrible months, Levi endured the cruel and inhuman death camp where men slaved away until it was time for them to die. Levi thoroughly presents the hopeless existence of the prisoners in Auschwitz, whose most basic human rights were stripped away, when in Chapter 2 he states, Imagine now a man who is deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Chapter 6, Levi tells how Kapos, beat us from pure bestiality and violence, but others beat us when we are under a load almost lovingly, accompanying the blows with exhortations, as cart drivers do with willing horses (67). A further aspect of Survival in Auschwitz that reinforces the dehumanizing effect of the death camp on the Jewish prisoners is the constant presence of hunger and starvation among the prisoners. Food and its acquisition and consumption are a constant topic that Primo Levi discusses because it constantly occupied the minds of most prisoners. Levi states, We have learnt the value of food; now we also diligently scrape the bottom of the bowl after the ration and we hold it under our chins when we eat bread so as not to lose the crumbs (33). Bread and soup are the only things prisoners in the camp receive and whether you are served soup from the top or the bottom is of great importance. The prisoners would try to get soup from the bottom half of the vat because soup from the upper portion is mostly watery broth whereas soup from the bottom portion contains more vegetables pieces (33). The insatiable desire for food would lead prisoners to act in very animalistic ways. Upon waking up in the morning, prisoners would quickly make their beds and then run to the latrines urinating while they run to save time, because within five minutes begins the ... The Dolphin Free Tuna Dilemma Introduction In this paper I will focus on the dolphin free TUNA dilemma (case from 1991 GATT) where several countries (that imported into the US) called for a review of policies in place by the US protectionist trade policies on tuna production and the free trade agreements under GATT. Furthermore, I will discuss what the results of the case was, what implication it has on the global economy and what role the GATT/WTO has had in this policy. I will briefly compare it to the policies that the EU have in place to prevent mad cow disease tainted meat from coming into the EU. This is a take on different policies, about the process to produce a product, why the countries would want to prevent the importation of it and subsequently what... The US looks to collaborate with trading partners to cooperate with this Act and help enforce it. Countries Oppose US Regulations On Process Case #1 In 1990, Tuna from several countries, (which included Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, etc.) was banned from the US (in the form of imports). In other words, the US set an embargo for light skin tuna sales from these countries. Mexico and Venezuela challenged the US action and took it to the GATT. The decision was in their favor and in 1991 and 1992 both the countries cases were resolved through an outside settlement. The decision was not binding until after the Uruguay Round and adopted by the countries then. Countries Oppose US Regulations On Labeling Case #2 Later there was a second case that arose of third world countries (including Mexico) importing Tuna and Tuna products from other countries that did not meet the MMPA agreement. This was also dismissed by the GATT, under the same assumptions that other countries could not dictate how other countries use their natural resources and prevented free flow of trade. This second case was led by Mexico, and a complaint about discriminatory labels on tuna product packaging that led consumers to believe the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Disability In Freaks The film Freaks was released in the early 20th century by Tod Browning and it definitely caught the eyes of everyone because of its risky and unusual cast. The lecture notes state that the movie was pulled by MGM and was not shown in mainstream theaters until 1960 because of the negative reactions of the viewers. This filmhad representations of a mixture of class and disability that was not fit to be shown at the time of the early 20th century. Freaks illustrates disability mainly and at first displays deficiencies as being monstrous by showing the people screaming once seeing one of the disabled humans at the very beginning. However, by the first ten minutes in the movie it is obvious that the freaks are just like normal people but with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Janet Zandry who is the author of Decloaking Class: Why Class Identity and Consciousness Count , defines class as an experience of shared economic circumstances and shared social and cultural practices in relation to positions of power (Zandry 103). The film the Freaks illustrates class by showing Cleo and the other people without disabilities as part of a group who share the same social practices like how they think they are better than the freaks and how they think it is okay to steal from and hurt them. The normal group all believed the same; they thought of themselves as higher class and that they were in charge. The scene that really stood out and showed the class differences was when Cleo and Hercules had a dinner with the freaks . The freaks tried to invite Cleo into their group by passing around a drink that all the disabled drank out of while chanting one of us, one of us. Once the cup got to Cleo, she freaked out and threw the drink in one of their face. She was showing that she is not part of their class group and it made her upset that they even would consider her part of them. This scene is a good indicator of how the people in America during the 20th century thought as themselves as better than the disabled people and did not want to think of themselves as equal to ... • 7. Amusing Ourselves To Death Neil Postman Analysis In 1985, when Neil Postman penned, Amusing Ourselves to Death, CNN, and the twenty four hour news cycle existed in its infancy and televangelism was still unscathed by the Jim Baker and Jimmy Swaggart scandals. A B movie actor sat in the Oval Office. Conceivably most importantly, television, the love child of the photograph and the telegraph, had reached maturity to become fully entrenched in American culture after thirty some years (p. 100). Newscasters, preachers, and politicians had become celebrities. The information presented on the tube was deficient in meaningful content and lacked context. Nevertheless, the public s level of amusement rode high. Televisions capacity to manipulate public persona and information on the news, in religion, and in politics creates a vaudeville atmosphere on these modes of public discourse. First, when it comes to the news, Postman raises the fact that television is a business that sells its time in minutes and seconds. While the thirty minute ... It is not uncommon to see on Facebook selfies taken by youths with village children some half naked some fully naked. • 11. Building A Waddell A-Truss Bridge Building a Waddell A Truss Bridge Introduction: Bridges have been used for thousands of years, beginning with natural formations, such as huge rock arches (Appendix A). The first bridges made by humans were most likely simple spans of wooden tree trunks laid across streams, or planks, such as rafts tied together (Gascoigne, 2001). These simple designs evolved over time, as new materials became available, to form the hundreds of bridges we use today. Some basic bridge designs include truss, arch, beam and suspension bridges. The most basic of these is the beam bridge (Appendix B1), which consists of a deck, spanning a relatively short distance, that is held up by a pair of abutments (vertical supports at either end). When designing large bridges, these three factors (excessive cost, size and complexity) regulate if a bridge is built, or if a different design is chosen. The Waddell A truss bridge (Appendix C) is a truss bridge designed by engineer John Alexander Low Waddell. It was built in 1898, as a short span railway bridge, and is one of only two bridges remaining which had the A truss design. Due to its high trusses, it is quite rigid in all directions, and it is easily erected as it has a simple design (Syazwi, 2013). These are some of the reasons why the Waddell a truss design was chosen. It is simple to create out of the materials which can be used (Manila folders) as it consists of beams and bars, as well as some gusset plates (Appendix C). Not only this, but the design allows it to hold quite a large amount of weight, in spite of the fact that a folder is not necessarily strong. However when folded, it may be surprising how much a small piece of card can actually hold. Manila folders were used to create this bridge because they are inexpensive, easy to cut bend and glue, have surprisingly predictable structural behaviour and can be used to build tubes, bars and strong ... • 13. Osteoporosis And How It Begins Osteoporosis and How It Begins Common fractures that occur in the spine, hips, and wrist are frequently related to osteoporosis. Sometimes mild stressors such as coughing or bending over may cause a fracture of brittle and weakened bones related to osteoporosis. Bone is live tissue that is continuously damaged and repaired. Out with the Old, In With the New Osteoporosis takes place when the removal rate of the old bone tissue is faster than the formation of new bone. Normally in the beginning stages of bone loss there are no symptoms exhibited. When weakness has developed in the bones due to osteoporosis, some signs and symptoms that appear are: height loss, forward bent posture, back pain or fractures that occur easily. Bones are regenerated continuously, the aged bone is destroyed as the new bone is created. As the body ages, and the process of old bones being broken down occurs at a quicker rate than new bone being formed, this process decreases bone mass. The chances of developing osteoporosis is influenced by the amount of bone mass developed in adolescent years. An elevated bone mass at peak level indicates the amount of bone present and indicates that you have less chances to develop osteoporosis with age (Mayo Clinic, 2014). In fact, various BPP mistakes caused its own downfall. The most serious structural flaw in the BPP was the way it carried out operations. Party members who openly worked in BPP offices or organized in the community daily, were the same people who carried out underground armed operations at night. Naturally, this provided the police with a convenient excuse to make raids on any BPP offices or the homes of the members. Such raids forced the party to make stationary defenses of the BPP offices. Unfortunately, since there was no separation between the daily operations and the underground armed apparatus, the Party became doomed. An approach named over the top (OTT) virtual access network allows the aggregation of multiple wireless networks into a single IP pipe to provide users with more bandwidth. So how do you define bandwidth? Bandwidth is a measurement of bit rate of available or consumed data communication resources expressed in bits per second or multiples of it in computer networking and computer science [1] The aim ... • 26. Louisa May Alcott Transcendentalism Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 in Germantown, Pennsylvania where she was taught by her father who was a transcendentalist philosopher. She studied informally with other authors such as Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker. She has been publishing since 1851 poems, short stories, thrillers and juvenile tales. Her most popular novel was Little Women published in 1868. From what I read in a biography, she transformed her father s story Fruitland to make it look like the woman was the hero. It says in the article that she: makes her own creation out of his Fruitland s story, feminizes it, making the mother the hero and the father the fool . Utopia is an ideal place or a visionary system of political or social perfection. With the transcendental movement everyone has to follow a routine. They would all wake up at the same time every day, take baths, eat at the same time, have meaningful conversations, get back to work and finish work the evening came. Within the community there are beliefs so it is not just one person thinking in a different way, but a group of people. It is a transcendental movement because they choose to live and believe in different things than the rest of the world, but within the community they all have to think the same way, someone cannot be self reliant on his own. From what I understand, the children were allowed to do what they wanted, and members in the community were allowed to express their feeling freely, in other community this not accepted if it is not intellectual or spiritual thinking. Auden s poem, Stop all the clocks, expresses the meaning of massive grief, a tragic loss, and a tireless hopelessness best represented in the last lines, For nothing now can ever come to any good. Personally the mood of the poem felt a bit depressing and a sadness that I know all too well. The title and first line of the poem explains the author s heartbroken grief by including the audience to do something which we all know is not possible, Stop all the clocks. This itself let us know that time could not be stopped, yet when a loved one has pass it feels like at that particular time we don t want to believe that the love of our life is gone. The funeral parade described in lines 7 and 8 serves to further represent both the importance of the deceased and the grief caused by this person s death. The third verse, especially lines 9, 10, and 11, again bring the closeness of the relationship between the author and the deceased. The author shows great respect for this person by using overstatement, figure of speech to imply how important this person meant to the author. In line 9, He was my North, my South, my East and West, indicates the intimacy between the two individuals and incorporated with the next line, My working week and my Sunday rest, indicates their relationship to be of a very devoted nature. This is also stated in line 12, I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong. This can be interpreted to represent the speaker s unawareness toward an inescapable death. The author s love for this man is very rare as he can describe it, to the points of end of time. This love between them is so strong that anyone reading this poem would believe their love will last forever, but as you read on you realize not until the death of this person that he loved; was the realization made that this thing called love, like everything else, must and will come to an end. It s a common belief of many that national security only entails the protection of states borders from outside threats. In recent times, this seems to not be the case, since the dangers that states faces now threatens the life of the individual, therefore, protection of the citizens, their wellbeing, and the laws of the land becomes a priority which links it or makes it human security. States like the US are adjusting their foreign policies to fit this new human security as national security approach. Also, with the world becoming a small global village, states are using less military force to settle dispute. They are reducing the amount of violence they use against one another. Everyone seems to be embracing the notion of peace rather than war and I believe this is so because nations do not want to go back to the hostility and instability of the Cold Warera. Using the United Statesforeign policies (past and current) regarding terrorism, I will be analyzing how they fit or do not fit into the spectrum of human security as national security. According to Roland Paris, human security does not have one explicit definition. Different nations and organization define this concept differently; each according to its view, policies, interests, and goals. Paris compared the concept to standard developmental goals, in the sense that though most (if not all) nations desire it, only a few knows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would recommend this book to Taiya because I know she is reading the series and I want to encourage her to persevere, so I can have someone to talk about with. The first lesson I learned was that you have to face evil and destroy it, you can t let it slowly seep into you and others because it spreads like wildfire. This occurred throughout the novel, especially with the village as a whole and mentor. I believe that Trademaster was created to prove this point by Lois Lowry, evil and sin are sinister and will slowly creep into you and that s why you have to be on the lookout. The question has been asked by many geographers and there are many strong examples for both sides. Human geography plays a greater role in human development by changing the way people act by being more obedient and having freedom and having a cultures that are unique , while physical geography is the outside environment. The outside environment is not as important since humans are sheltered in homes. People s culture make people s lifestyle different and unique. Cultural convergence is when one culture comes in contact with another. This makes people have more diverse and and modern cultures. Well it can be food or a personality trait, depending on how you look at it. This question is underlined in the novel True Grit. This idea of grit comes from the book True Gritby Charles Portis, about a 14 yr. old girl, Mattie Ross, who has come to find someone with grit to avenge her father. She hires a U.S Marshall named Rooster Cogburn who brings along a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf to help her capture and/or kill her father s murderer, named Tom Chaney. I disagree with Mattie on this one, to me there are other traits of true grit shown later that describe the meaning of grit better. This tells us that Rooster has a grit that is different from Mattie s grit shown in the book, and that grit can also mean being harsh, resilient and fearless. Rooster and them finally run into the gang that Chaney is in, led by Lucky Ned Pepper. At this point Ned s gang has left Chaney with Mattie, to cash their stolen goods when La Boeuf and Rooster come to halt them in their tracks. La Boeuf knocks Chaney out while Rooster challenges the band of four bandit s head on, like so, He took the reins in his teeth and pulled the other saddle revolver and drove his spurs into the flanks of his strong horse and charged directly at the bandits (Portis 201). This action quote is my favorite display of Rooster s true grit because he shows it as being bold and courageous. Rooster kills all but one, by means of this action he illustrates grit in his boldness, strength and roughness by literally gritting his teeth together to perform this act of true grit. After this event, Mattie is poisoned by a snake bite and Rooster shows grit again by risking many things, including his hat, Rooster lost his hat and never looked back (Portis 215). I have a favorite hat and would be sad to lose it, so for me this shows that Rooster s meaning of grit changed. If it wasn t for his care about Mattie, he probably would have turned back for his hat. He did it to save Mattie s life, displaying a different type of grit, one of valor, resolution and care of her. While Rooster showed us more sides to grit, La Boeuf surprisingly proved that even Texas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Issue of Prayer in Schools Often, as was the case of the abolition of slavery in our country, it seems that courts ratified change that had already occurred in the ethos of the national culture and consciousness of the nation after the tide had already turned. This is the case with the issue of prayer in schools and the separation of church and state in general. As much as the history of court cases is good evidence for the separation of church and state and with it the denial of prayer in schools, supporters of prayer in public schools can and do make the argument that the intention of the Founding Father s of this nation was to form a nation centered around prayer and Biblical instruction with it s accompanying values. Their understanding of religious freedom was no doubt defined and acted out in the context of their culture and religious influences. Courts of their day certainly did not push back against the integration of church and state as we think of it today. Urie Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory looks at the development of a child as happening within an intricate system of relationships affected by various levels of their environment. Bronfenbrenner called his theory a bioecological model because the child s biological attributes mesh with the environment to further development. There are 5 different systems that make up the child s surrounding environment. The distinct systems are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and the chronosystem. Some more informal surroundings of the exosystem include the parents social networks such as friends and extended family who provide advice, assistance, and friendship to the parents. The fourth layer of the environment is the macrosystem. The macrosystem contains cultural values, customs, resources, and laws. The more the macrosystem prioritizes children s needs, the more support they get at the more inner levels of the environment. It also works the other way around. For example, in countries that emphasize laws which give generous benefits to employed parents or even laws that prioritize a higher standard of education, children see more support and have more beneficial experiences in their immediate surroundings. The last system is the chronosystem. According to Bronfenbrenner, the environment is a dynamic influence on a child s development. There are always new environmental conditions being created for the child. The timing of the ever changing environment also matters in terms of the child s circumstance and age at the time of environmental change. For example, no one was to kill the murderer Cain: If anyone kills Cain, Cain shall be avenged sevenfold (Gn 4:15); and again, the great cry in Ezekiel: Answer them: As I live says the Lord God, I swear I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, but rather in the wicked man s conversion, that he may live.
