Annotated Lolita Analysis
A Postcolonial view of The Annotated Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
The infamous story of Lolita by author Vladimir Nabokov has been a controversial one since its first
release in America in November 1958. The publishing world and the average readers were not
prepared or interested in reading a story about a middle aged pedophile and his twelve year old
stepdaughter. People were outraged by the book and were repulsed by it, but as the moth is drawn to
the flame, so are curious minds and within one week, Lolita became a best selling book.
Author Vladimir Nabokov was born in Russia on April 22, 1899 during a time when socially
acceptable rules were very different than what we practice in today s society. During the 19th century
in Europe, it was common for a man to marry a young girl of only 10 years of age. We can only
speculate, that Nabokov writes about the sexual relationship between father and daughter as
acceptable through the eyes of Humbert, since this may have been behavior that was familiar to him
through friends and family in Russia and his travels throughout Europe. In this story, we can apply the
postcolonial theory to the Western born Humbert to the colonization of Dolores Haze. The Europeans
invaded America and wanted them to convert to their culture. They also help power over the new land
and carried themselves with an air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and without family and no alternative, she felt as if she had nowhere else to go. Eventually, Dolores
had had enough and made her escape and put an end to this

My Personal Strengths
Essay A
Growing up, my parents frequently bombarded me with the celebrated saying: Eat all your food. Some
people in the world do not have any . As a kid, I always shrugged this off as just another instance of
parents exuding typical parental behavior. Yet as I got older, I came to learn how my parents sayings
proved not merely proverbs, but in fact their history.
Having lived and grown up in Vietnam, my parents experienced hardships atypical to the average
American family; food, funds, and fear from their government. They found food a scarcity, and
placing a meal on the table came as an effortful task, so my parents resorted to getting jobs at a young
age. Difficulties from the Vietnamese government during the war also contributed to their endless
struggles. For an example, my dad, upon my grandfather s forced captivity from the government,
became the man of the house, a home with about 500 square feet, for a family of ten. He took care of
the entire family at the age of ten years old. Coupled with all the hardships of surviving, such factors
resulted in an arduous life for my mother and father. Due to their personal life burdens, they made
raising me a priority, thus instilling in me a determination for success and wholesome traits in my
personal character.
In order to guarantee a future filled with great accomplishments, my parents emphasized the herculean
importance of education. At a young age, my parental unit enrolled me in head start, engaged me in

Stalinist Gulag Camps And Violations To Human Rights
Stalinist Gulag Camps and Violations to Human Rights There are many types of different labor camps
that were meant to confine a group of people, but one of the most significant were Stalinist Gulags,
leading to the disappearances of millions of people. The Stalinist Gulags are in violation of many
articles, but a few are Articles 4, 5, 9, and 10. Article 4 is stated that no one shall be held in slavery,
which in Gulags they are doing forced and unpaid labor. Article 5 states that no one should be
subjected to cruel, and degrading treatment or punishment, which there was quite a bit of that
happening in gulags. Article 9 says that no one should be subjected to arbitrary arrest (random arrest),
detention or exile, people would just be randomly put in the camps if they were thought to be rebels,
without a hearing that is. And the last Article, Article 10, states that everyone should have a fair and
public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, but people would commonly just disappear
and no one would know where they went, But really they were taken to Gulags to work. Stalinist
Gulags violated the articles of Declaration of Human Rights because of how prisoners were treated
and also how they were incarcerated in camps. Gulags were labor camps that were used during the
Stalin era, people were sent there for all types of reasons but mostly petty crimes and opinions. Gulag
is an acronym for something else stated here, The term Gulag is an acronym for the

Rhino Poaching Research Paper
The End of Rhino Poaching 414 Everyday more and more rhinos die from poaching. Did you know
that every 11 hours one rhino dies from poachers? How will we end rhino poaching? Now people are
using drones to stop poachers. There is an increasing demand for rhino horns. Everyday we lose more
and more rhinos for their horns. In 2012, 668 rhinos died for their horns. Then again, in 2013 by half
the year 350 rhinos had already been lost to poachers. Once, a rhino reserve in South Africa lost 13
rhinos in just one week. There is a huge increase for a demand of rhino horns, but why? In Asia,

How will drones catch the poachers? The drones are hand launched so there is no need for a big
runway. Also, the drones are only 12 pounds. Drones also have a six mile range camera. The drones
computer calculates a hot spot for poaching and watches it from the sky. Next, if the drone sees a
poacher then it sends an alert to notify the game wardens. When the game wardens see the alert they
rush down to the poaching sight and try to catch the poachers before they attack. The drones film a
video of the scene including the weather, if there was a sun or moon, when it happened and where.
The drones film this to show the trends/patterns of poachers. Drone technology can be very different.
For example, they can have different features. Thomas Smith and team at the University of Maryland
have tested out drones to stop poachers. In the last six months Smith s team had arrested a lot of
poachers with not one single gunshot. Their drones have infrared cameras and the camera sends live
video to the command center on the ground. Air Shepherd is combining with the University of
Maryland to support the drones to stop poachers. Early in 2014, South African Civil Aviation
Authority (SACAA) claimed that flying an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is against the law. Now

Hmong Social Structure
Social Structures: Hmong vs. Lao Migration is inevitable in the case of the aftermath of conflicts and
wars. Indochina or mainland Southeast Asia is a region where similar stories of migration result to
settlement for diverse groups of people. Two ethnic groups that fall into this story are Hmong and Lao.
Both groups have their unique characteristics, ranging from living in different elevations to having
distinctive social organization patterns. Both Hmong and Lao have very idiosyncratic ethnic identities.
Hmong are known for their diaspora from the mountainous region of southern China into Southeast
Asia (Lecture, 02/07/17). They reside in the highlands ranging from 3,500 to 9,000 feet, while Lao
reside in the lowlands below 3500 feet (Lecture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hmong followed a patrilineal kinship system. Only men can inherit properties and belongings; the
father holds title to family property. When couples are married, residence after marriage is either
patrilocal or neolocal, but in the vicinity of paternal house (LeBar, 75). When daughters marry, they
move out of the house. Hmong marriage is regarded as a bond between two clans, so they have strict
exogamy practices. Hmong men remain members of their birth clan for life (Hein, 68). Each of the
family clans have a leader, who is the eldest male of the line. Their society was male centered
(Lecture, 01/26/17). On the other hand, Lao followed the Southeast Asian pattern, which was a
bilateral kinship system. Kinship ties are felt to be equally strong on both sides, the mother and the
father (LeBar, 217). Lao kinship is more laid back compared to Hmong. They pay little attention to
genealogies, since tracing more than three generations is difficult for them (LeBar, 217). Both men
and women can inherit in the family as well, so Lao women are less subordinate to Lao men. Unlike
Hmong, Lao couples have freedom in choosing whether to live on their own or with either spouses
family (Lecture, 01/26/17). Lao marriage does not ensue strict exogamy practices, and Lao,
traditionally, have no family names. Lao are known by their given names, not family names. Overall,
Hmong and Lao have the exact opposite types of

Diversification And Diversification For International Markets
Introduction:
Diversification and adapting to internationalisation is a way to survive in a competitive business
environment and is well researched and adopted in the business world. It is possibly the most logical
and secure way for companies to avoid that their share of a given market will not be taken over by
other competitors when they try to diversify technologically, geographically or product wise. It also
helps reduce the risk by spreading it into different markets. There are many assorted works written
about diversification and internationalisation in order to theoretically envisage the optimal level of
diversification for international markets that generates the highest growth rate with a minimum level
of risk.
This study is an investigation of the strategic growth of a small company (Ravi Rice) based in the city
of Jhang, Pakistan. Since the business was established, it has found difficulty in gaining more
customers and it is localized in its certain area. This was a big problem for the company affecting its
sales and growth overtime, management had to overcome this hurdle, because the company would not
be able to survive with its current customers, despite having a large production but limited market
share.
To over come this delinquent and to get rid of the current situation, it was necessary to adopt a viable
expansion strategy for long run business, company needed the change and being the marketing and

the CSGU questionnaire, each individual dimension is assessed with a four item subscale. Firstly,
participants were asked to note the main reason for their performance, stated in an open end question.
Following this, questions were asked which measured attribution dimensions in relation to the
previous statement. These questions could be answered on a scale from 1 (not at all) to 5 (completely)

Business and Climate Change
§ 1.0 Introduction
Although research on climate change is quite vague about the exact degree of warming and the
consequences for the natural environment, a wide range of impacts can be expected (Metz, 2011). The
temperature changes and the sea level rise, this has a negative impact on food production, water
availability, human health, biological environment and infrastructure in coastal areas. Vulnerability is
highest in poor countries where the changes will have a devastating effect. Metz (2011) states that

Furthermore, voluntary climate change policy will result in elevating UBS reputation (Hoffman,
2005). As stated before, a large percentage of society all over the world has concerns about global
warming. Different business units of UBS can benefit from this reputational aspect. First, private
investors who consider environmental strategies in making investments will prefer UBS Wealth
Management and Business Banking Switzerland above competitors such as Citigroup and Morgan
Stanley. Second, institutional investors as well as private clients will value UBS environmental
friendly reputation. Thirdly, UBS could broaden its scope by starting trading carbon credits. Their
reputation could help them compete with competitors such as Morgan Stanley that is active in this are
already. Besides their clients, UBS employees will be more motivated to work for a CR company
since they believe that companies should contribute to solve global warming problems. Therefore, a
green policy can increase the retention rates of skilled workers (Hoffman, 2005).
§ 3.0 Method to implement green policy
To become carbon neutral, UBS could adjust their company activities or compensate their GHG
emission. Besides replacing business travel with videoconferencing, UBS could manage their energy
use more effectively with the aim to realize carbon neutral buildings. First, concerning their buildings,

President Bill Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal Essay
Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal
On January 17th, 1998, President Clinton videotaped a deposition for the Paula Jones lawsuit against
him. December 19th, eleven months later, Bill Clinton became only the second president in our nation
s history to face impeachment from congress. The 1998 1999 was a tumultuous year for the President,
the media, and the American people as a whole.
Yet, the most intriguing and surprising aspect of the scandal was not that Bill Clinton would ever cheat
on his wife or that his administration would survive such a terrible scandal. Nor was it a revelation
that the media would be zealously intrigued by a sex scandal involving the President. The one aspect
of the Lewinksy Scandal that was truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it is too early to accurately judge the presidency of Bill Clinton, most would agree that he was
successful in office. He was the first democrat to successfully be reelected since Franklin Roosevelt.
Yet, when a sufficient amount of time has passed and historians attempt to categorize and analyze Bill
Clinton s presidency, his legacy will ultimately be tied to scandal. The numerous scandals that Clinton
faced and survived were an important aspect of the Clinton presidency. On one hand, they showed the
well documented weakness of Clinton s personal character his infidelities, his evasiveness, and his
lack of integrity. Yet, Clinton s ability to survive these scandals are a true testament how politically
cunning and brilliant the man was.
In examining the political life of Bill Clinton, five major scandals stick out: his draft record; Gennifer
Flowers and Infidelity; the Marijuana controversy; Whitewater; the Lewinsky Affair. Any one of these
scandals could easily and have on numerous occasions ruin a political career. Yet, in each of these
episodes Clinton was unusually adept at surviving and restoring his image. The importance of
illustrating Clinton s past encounters with scandal is not to show the moral weakness of Clinton s
character; nor is it to show cagey moves of

Barnes Noble s Mission Statement
Barnes Noble was created by Charles Barnes and opened the first store in 1917 in New York City.
Barnes Noble is the largest retail bookseller and a leading retailer of digital media and educational

while reading books and magazines. I feel like they wanted to give the store a home feeling as if you

The Success Of A Business Owner
Being an entrepreneur is about believing in something and standing for what you believe in. The
reasons entrepreneurs start businesses is to be successful as well as to make money. No one ever starts
a business with the intent to fail, however if a business does fail most entrepreneurs learn from their
mistakes and try again. The mentality of successful business owner is an I will not lose attitude that
motivates that person to not accept failure as an option.
Having what it takes to survive and succeed is a core value of entrepreneurs, making it your civil duty
to find solutions to problems people face on a daily basis. In my research I think the main objective of
an entrepreneur, is to change the world in a way that will benefit everyone in one way or another. This
is the entrepreneurs right and clear intention to make sure they are operating from a good intent and
integrity. Entrepreneurs that have achieved a pinnacle of success often ask themselves, How can I
help? or better yet you ask yourself, How can I serve? . These are the the main motivating factors an
entrepreneur needs to create a plan of action.
Any entrepreneur that is successful in business has an instinctive ability to see problems and needs
that people have as an opportunity to apply their entrepreneurial capabilities to come up with solutions
and satisfy a person s problems or needs.
Another great example are social media entrepreneurs who

A Brief Note On Income Tax Assessment Act
Question 1
According to Income tax assessment act (ITAA) 1997, if an individual is Australian resident, he is
entitled to pay taxes from all sources throughout the world under s6 5(2) s6 10(4). Tax is executed on

Physical Dimensions And Land Title Act
Physical dimensions of property
Property comes with stings attached; a fee simple owner can enjoy a bundle of rights but there are a
number of reservations to the Crown as well as restrictions on the physical dimensions and use of
property. By utilizing a fundamental principle of Ad coelum doctrine and a three dimensional concept;
surface, airspace and subsurface of property, rights of landownership and use of property will be
examined. Then I will present three cases that modified the principle or physical dimensions.
The basic principle
Historically the common law maxim: cujus est solum ejus est usque ad coelum et ad inferos He who
owns the soils, owns up to the heavens and down to the depth of the earth, was said to apply to
physical dimensions of property. Ad coelum doctrine, however, is largely outdated and inaccurate in
BC because the use and the extent of land in three dimensions are regulated. Before discussing rights
and restrictions, I will explain physical boundaries.
Boundaries and Land Title Act
In old days, description of boundaries of land used physical objects. Toady in BC with a few
exceptions, meets and bounds, measurement of distances, angles, and directions measured by
surveyors, are included in Land Title System. In the past when a party wrongly assumes the boundary,
without any contracuaral agreement the law of adverse possession could alter the title. Although the
law has been abolished in BC by sections 24 and 171 of the Land Title Act (LTA)),

Kings Speech Intertextuality
How does Tom Hooper use intertextuality in his film The King s Speech?
Stage 1 English
SACE ID: 532883T
The King s Speech is a 2010 movie directed by Tom Hooper which explores the plight of Prince
Albert, who has an awful speech impediment, in his reluctant ascension to the throne. Intertextual
references to specific external texts, such as Peter Pan, the Tempest, Swanee River and Hamlet, are
used proficiently throughout the film to examine and emphasise a range of broader themes of duty,
friendship and overcoming challenges.
There are many times Bertie is overwhelmed by his duty to the royal family. A sense of duty can often
become overbearing in people s lives to the point where they wish for a simpler, easier life. The story

Hooper consciously references Swanee River as Bertie s favourite song in the film; further enhancing
the viewer s understanding of the theme of the temptation to disregard duty. In the song, the narrator
recalls and laments for his childhood life; When I was young, Den many happy days I squandered,
When I was playing wid my brudder, Happy was I; Oh, take me to my kind old mudder!. The narrator
wishes for his childhood life, to never grow up like Peter Pan, similar to the state of Bertie throughout
the film. Bertie s indication of Swanee River as his favourite song further illustrates the temptation he
feels to neglect his duty to the royal family and follow in his brothers footsteps. Ultimately, the
intertwining intertextual references of Peter Pan and Swanee River exemplify that although to neglect
one s duties and obligations, whether it be to the English monarchy, to your family or yourself, may be
tempting, to disregard can be selfish, lazy and fundamentally detrimental to your own life.
Bertie and Lionel develop a strong but unlikely and unorthodox friendship over the course of their
therapy sessions which is vital to the development of Bertie s emotional wellbeing and his speech
impediment. This theme of the value of friendship and the establishment of unlikely friendship is
implicitly explored through an intertextual reference to the Shakespearian

months I was unable to find a job or internship in the legal field. One summer night over dinner, I was
updating my father on my job search and career prospect, which was difficult to admit. As supportive
as he tried to be, I could see his disappointment. He then proposed I come to work at the hardware
store and see if I could help get it back on track. He no longer had the time or energy to invest into the
business.
I didn t see how working there could be beneficial for me. But after thinking it over for several days, I
realized this might be an exciting opportunity to challenge myself. I was to assume the role of store
manager, a role that is exhausting in a small business where I would be responsible for every single
thing that goes on. I spent the first few days critically and holistically assessing the business, trying to
figure out potential causes of the business decline and how I could help improve it. I noticed how
many customers would walk in and walk out

Born in 1951 in a Romanian home, Stefan Balcescu s early life was spent in and around the Atlanta
Metro Area. As he matured, his love for art became ever more present and he said so himself, he
married music in a figurative sense, but perhaps in a literal way as well. I conversed with Stefan
Balcescu, a Romanian musician born and raised in Atlanta, and he still resides there today. He is a
family friend, Stefan and my mother worked at the same middle school when I lived in Atlanta and
after knowing him for quite some time, his music truly enthralled me. Stefan s father is Romanian and
his mother is Romanian Romani, (gypsy ancestry). Stefan works as a middle school history teacher,
but in his spare time he is playing gigs and creating a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stefan further favors Roma singer, Muharem Serbezovski, he is a folk singer and writer of Roma
origin from Macedonia. I also favor some modern world singers, who sing for change, I enjoy Idan

has an empowering voice that describes the truths about American society [...] how we overlook what
actually needs to be helped, this includes poverty, abuse, education, minority rights, etcetera. What
about those artists do you admire? Stefan appreciates music that is multifaceted and utilizes intricate
beats with a variety of instruments; he also adores singers who have discrete voices. The artists are
remarkably diverse, these Roma, Turkish, French, and Eastern European musicians are not singing
ballad pop music or mainstream music. I appreciate that the music is not basic, no simple thumping,
four square, fiddle hoedown music. Growing up in a predominantly white area, I secretly listened to
my crazy Roma music, but hey, I found it exciting, but the neighbors probably thought I was a
Martian. Having to deal with racism on a daily basis, Stefan listened to music that helped him
overcome the bullying and seclusion he experienced. It is known that discrimination against Roma and
Sinti communities continues to be problem not only in Europe, but in America as well. Gypsy inspired

Summary Of Prokofiev s Harmonic And Key Relations
Prokofiev s Harmonic Idiosyncrasies and Key Relations in the Classical Symphony Prokofiev s
Classical Symphony is, oddly enough, one of his few pieces to garner much theoretical and
musicological interest. However, much of it seems to be misguided at best and more likely missing the
point altogether. This is not to say that everyone is wrong, to the contrary, most folks are not, the
problem is that the theorist and musicologist cannot seem to get on the same page. The enduring
question is not, as most would see it, whether or not the Classical Symphony is in fact classical (or for
that matter, if it is a symphony at all some have stated that it is more of a divertimento) but rather why
it is so infectiously hip and so absolutely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard Bass, however, does seem to understand Prokofiev s language, even though he does not write
about the first movement of the Classical Symphony. He describes Prokofiev s language as chromatic
displacement. I describe it the way a jazz musician might, which is sidestepping, but it is really the
same thing. Malcom Brown rails against Prokofiev for his shoe horned return to the tonic in the
second half of the primary theme, yet that is what makes the whole phrase work. That is what made it
Prokofiev s and no one elses. This detour, by half step or whole step is the underlying modus operandi
for much of Prokofiev s melodic ideas. We hear it in Peter and the Wolf, in the 5th symphony Scherzo,
in Mercutio, from Romeo and Juliet, and we hear it in the first twenty seconds of the Classical
Symphony. So with that in mind, I will be analysing Prokofiev s Classical Symphony through the
lense of harmonic variance, and occasionally rhythmic variance, since harmonic weight and
hypermeter are so often entwined. I will discuss, along with the basic formal structure of each
movement, Prokofiev s unique harmonic language as sussed out in the classical style. The opening
bars of the first movement is a Mannheim Rocket, straight out of the classical world of Haydn. This
leads immediately into the first theme, in the key of D major. All is well and good until the first theme
repeats, but this time down a whole step to C major. I bVII is

Democratic Presidential Debate
The race for the White House is a long and tedious process that is mobbed by campaigns events and
stump speeches, but more importantly candidates are givens the opportunity to contrast their ideas
with other candidates in televised debates. On January 17, 2016, I tuned into the Democratic
Presidential Debate that was hosted by NBC News in Charleston, SC and moderated by Lester Holt.
This debate included all three Presidential contenders: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O
Malley. All candidates made reference to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in their opening statements
because of the King holiday being the following day. Each candidate tried their best to make an appeal
to continuing the work of Dr. King by ensuring justice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of twitter by both the viewers and the candidates are geared toward one particular goal: to try
to change the mind of voters. By candidates operating on Twitter they possess the ability to make
instant rebuttals to something that another candidate has said without having to release an official
statement or waiting until the next debate. Also in an age of social media candidates and their
campaigns believe that it is one of the most effective ways to broadcast information and connect with
voters. Twitter users also use this median as a way to make fun at a candidate s position or simply try
to convince others to change the way they have chosen to vote. Many twitter users from the
Republican party took to the social media website to bash the democratic candidates and their policy
positions. One user slammed a comment made by Governor Martin O Malley that the greatest threat
facing the United States was climate change. This made for a twitter field day with other users
implying that the democratic candidates do not take the threat of terrorism and ISIS seriously which
disqualifies them from the presidency. These type of instances can have negative effects for either
party because of how quickly a retweet can make a statement viral and could end up severely hurting a
campaign. However, this reaction did not alter my impression of the candidates or the debate at

The Settlements Of The Treaty Of Waitangi Essay
The Settlements of the Treaty of Waitangi.
The treaty of Waitangi is considered to be the founding document of the English and European control
and settlement in New Zealand. After the treaty s signing in 1840 it has played a huge role in legal
affairs and the treatment of both European New Zealanders and Maori New Zealanders. Though there
is dispute as to the correct or incorrect translation from English to Maori and vice versa, the treaty has
on the whole created a harmonious existence between the two cultures.
In 1832 after a plea for help and protection sent to the French and English by the Maori, the English
sent James Busby to be the British Resident in New Zealand, which would lead to the later
appointment of William Hobson as the Lieutenant Governor of New Zealand. In 1834 James Busby
drafted a document known as the Declaration of Independence of New Zealand . This was signed by
himself and 35 Northern Maori chiefs in 1835 appointing those chiefs as the representatives of a state
under the name of the United Tribes of New Zealand . This document was not popular in the Colonial
Office in England and it seemed that a corrective document was needed for New Zealand. This
document ended up being the Treaty of Waitangi.
Hobsons instructions are the basis for all Waitangi Tribunal claims and settlements, the instructions
were issued to him by James Stephen of the Colonial office on behalf of Queen Victoria. The
instructions were as follows:

Short Essay On Robots
Robots used to be a futuristic fantasy seen on television, and in movies. Today though, robots are
becoming more prevalent in our daily lives. They are generally defined as machines that automatically
perform tasks with precision. A lot of robots include a computer that controls its actions
autonomously, others have a human controller, and occasionally it is a combination. As technology
advances, the use of robots is rapidly growing. Their use in the workplace increases efficiency, and
increases safety because they can do dangerous jobs humans would not normally do. From the first
robots used in manufacturing in the 1950s to now, their technology has advanced to being used in an
incredible number of fields in the present. In the future robots will create great advancements in the
fields of medicine, farming, military, science, and our daily lives.
To understand how robotics are and will be used in our daily lives it is important to know how robots
work. The most basic parts of robots are the physical frame, a motor, a sensor system, the power
supply, and a computer, that controls the robot. Most robots have movable joints, or wheels which are
controlled by an actuator, a mechanism that controls equipment (Gibilisco 1994). Lots of robots, for
example the common robotic arm, use individual step motors, which are motors that move in exact
increments, allowing for precise movements. Some robots are able to move on their own, relying on
response to outside stimuli. These robots

You have to pursue the practice if you require to be healthy and live a happy life. Having a purpose to
practice mediation will help you the most but practicing overwhelmingly will not lead you to the
results.
Start your practice of mediation with breathing and slowly add other techniques of mediation in your
practice. Breathing slowly is a simple way that leads you to relax your muscles and keep your heart
beat at a normal pace. Generally, breathing is the first stage in the mediation process and people find it
helpful as well.
Discover the job, work, activity or hobby that you find most interesting and pleasing in order to
continue the mediation process more effectively. This hobby or activity will help you concentrate on
one area of your interest and it will slowly remove negativity from your mind.
Breathing is not merely the only way to mediate yourself; there are plenty of additional techniques of
mediation that you can try to relax and calm yourself. If you do not like the practice of breathing you
can try breathing in other positions than sitting and keeping yourself straight. Just try to discover new
positions that strengthen your ability to practice and that is comfortable for

The City Of Arvada And The City Of Compton
The two cities selected for this report are to include the city of Arvada and the City of Compton. Both
coming from a long distance, the reports and statistical number between the two are jaw dropping. The
major broad topics that will be focused on will include but not limited to population, education, and
wealth statistics such as poverty level and income level.
The first city selected for this report is found just north west of the capital of Colorado. The city of
Arvada, was founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1904. A brief history and statistic on the city of
Arvada is that the city has grown in population size tremendously. Arvada has boomed in population

The word megaregion could be used because as of last year the population has grown roughly by
116,000 residents for its 32 square millage.
The second city also selected for this report is located just south of Los Angeles California, the City of
Compton founded on May 11, 1888 was the eighth city to be incorporated. A brief history on Compton
and its population is that according to the U.S Census Bureau in 2010, the total population size was at
96,455 residents. This number of residents is lower than what was expected to see in California. After
further investigation in the website, after five year span in 2015, the population of Compton raised to
97,955 residents. Although the smaller population growth isn t what it seems to be like in Arvada
Colorado. But in 2016 in Compton California the total population size decreased to 97,550 residents.
A decrease in 400 residents within the one year span. Both cities roughly over 1,000 miles apart do
share some similarities and differences between them.
The first pivotal concept between the two cities is on education. Education is key to moving up within
the world. Being more educated in this life means that you gain status, and gain power. Education is a
solution for many problems that may arise in the future and have a significant impact on various
studies including incarceration rate. Nonetheless, the data found on the percentage of high school
graduates between these two cities is very important

Analysis Of Gerald Davis s The Vanishing American...
In the text The Vanishing American Corporation by Gerald Davis the corporate economy is a term of
the past. According to Davis we are in the midst of the third industrial revolution (Davis 167). The
reason is a combination of factors such as technology, the industrial movement, and inequality and
political struggles to tame the market. More specifically novice and new technology began the
collapse of the corporation. Since corporations ceased to exist the economy is unpredictable and
unstable. Many of the once solid positions are replaced by offshoring work to other countries. Many
people are unemployed however the unemployed remain undocumented.
Given the unemployed remain undocumented the published unemployment figures convey the
unemployment rate has gone down. Yet at the same time the labor force has dropped since 1977. The
cause of undocumented unemployed citizens results from the number of social security not counted on
the unemployment data. According to Davis the past two decades substantially outnumbers the
unemployed.
Many Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) citizens remain permanently unemployed. Also, many
citizens live off part time jobs and rote tasks. Davis describes the end of the corporation as an
apocalypse in nature. Davis colorfully illustrate the current job market is like an unmapped island full
of dense rain forests, prone to earthquakes that rearrange the landscape, and with a volcano at the
center (Davis 183).
Many compare the instability of the economy of today to the 2008 financial meltdown. According to
author Joel Havemann in 2008 the nation documented the economy as the world s worst dangerous
crisis since The Great Depression since 2007. Afterward in 2008 a deep recession encompassed the
world (. However, the 2008 crisis is not the same as the same as today.
According to Censoo.com while losses could continue, the U.S. appears, at the moment, to be in a
better position to weather them. That could keep a market downturn from morphing into a full blown
financial crisis that then leads to an economic one (Censoo). The chief reason is because the United
States (U.S.) holds less debt than government debt.
American households now hold 15% of debt opposed to the 18.1%

The Myth Of Poverty In Adam Smith s Shop-Happy
The real tragedy of the poor is the poverty of their aspirations, said Adam Smith. The quote above
sheds light upon the primary driving force behind the conspicuous poverty that currently plagues
American society and its citizens alike. Whether it be the further exacerbation of an indigent
individual s lifestyle or augmented power rendered to the commonplace bon vivant, the vicious circle
of poverty seemingly appears to be an indelible taint on America s rather diverse mosaic of
individuals. From the gruesome working conditions endured by impoverished Americans to the
immense profits garnered by affluent storeowners, the nation remains fixated in an economics oriented
rudimentary state: a reality directly intertwined to a dearth of bona ... Show more content on

Evidence from the article Shop Happy that further bolsters this claim is shown when the author states,
Wanting to acquire the things that we see and like is as natural as breathing. Babies want to touch
things, taste them, bash them against the wall. We appease them with shining objects, distract them
with new toys (Smith). The quote above sheds light upon how counterfeit values, namely those
interconnected to the fostering of avarice among Americans, exacerbate financial situations to a
noteworthy degree, thus yielded a drastic escalation in the numbers of underprivileged individuals.
Delving deeper into the specifics, the blatantly obvious sense of egocentrism exercised by affluent
coteries of American citizens perpetuates the nation s fixation in an economically rudimentary state,
with poorer individuals striving to remain socially tantamount with the affluent. In addition to the
inevitable vicissitudes of a stereotypical wage slave lifestyle, the widespread desire to cope with the
capricious state of the American economy furthermore aggrandizes the burden placed upon the
impoverished. Yet another driving force behind the nearly ubiquitous state of poverty that prevails in
America today is exemplified when Schlosser, in her novel In The Strawberry Fields, states, In
Watsonville, three to four families will share a small house, seven or eight people to a room. Migrants
routinely pay $100 to $200 a month to sleep in a garage with anywhere from four to ten other people.
Despite the hardships that accompany the job, there is an oversupply of people hoping to pick
strawberries. Another constant worry is finding a place to sleep (Schlosser 433). The quote above
epitomizes the over appreciative attitudes commonly embraced by the working poor, to a point where
the factor transforms into a mere anathema

Argumentative Essay On Legal Aid
Legal rights and protections are meaningless of those in need of the justice system cannot access it.
The myth of a single level playing field, however, ignores that the field is more level for some groups
than for others real world inequities remain for racial and ethnic minorities and implicitly legitimates
hierarchies (Daum Ishiwata, 2010, p.844). Under the constitution the government is obligated to level
the playing field for the historically disadvantaged groups by not abstracting them from their real
world circumstances. Thus creating the need for the government to provide publicly funded legal aid
to address the financial and accessibility obstacles those living in poverty face. Although the right to

However, by establishing legal aid programs, the government engages in substantive equality. As it
recognizes that there are those who have realities involving oppression and disadvantage in society.
These are barriers to which an adverse impact occurs to those living in poverty. The government and
justice system recognizes this and accordingly provides a limited solution in the form of legal aid
programs. For those who are poor, the absence of legal aid is an arbitrary, unreasonable, and
inequitable interference with access to the courts. (Buckley, 2007 p.342). Although legal aid programs
are available and in place, they are not easily accessible and severely limited for those living in
poverty. Provincial legislature makes accessibility difficult and funding constraints limit the types of
legal matters covered by legal aid programs, and the categorization of problems into isolated legal
issues. Leaving those living in poverty without assistance on a number of legal

Allah was described as the compassionate Lord of the Worlds, who is the king of the day of

day.
Declaration of Student Rights Let if be know, as American students, we believe we have our own

Statements As students, trying to regain dress code freedom, we have tried numerous times to dress

been denied over and over again. We have written anonymous letters to our Queen about our

ourselves independently. We vow to this with any and everything we have, on that note, we as
American students declare war to any everyone who supports the belief that we must wear uniforms.

Essay on The Variety of Themes in Othello
The Variety of Themes in Othello
In the Shakespearean tragedy Othello the number and description of themes is open to discussion.
With the help of literary critics, we can analyze this subject in detail.
In the essay Wit and Witchcraft: an Approach to Othello Robert B. Heilman discusses the ancient s
instinctive reaction to the love theme of the play:
Before coming directly to the forming of the love theme that differentiates Othello from other
Shakespeare plays that utilize the same theme, I turn arbitrarily to Iago to inspect a distinguishing
mark of his of which the relevance to thematic form in the play will appear a little later. When Iago

Hardly. Campbell categorizes Othello as a study in jealousy :
Othello has suffered less in its modern interpretation than any other of Shakespeare s tragedies, it
would seem. So insistently did Shakespeare keep this tragedy unified about the theme of jealousy and
the central victims of the passion, so obviously did he mould his plot about the black Moor and the
cunning Iago and the victims of their jealousy that no interpreter has been able to ignore the obvious
intention of the author. Yet if we study the contemporary interpretations of the passion here portrayed,
we find that Shakespeare was following in detail a broader and more significant analysis of the
passion than has in modern days been understood. The play is, however, clearly a study in jealousy
and in jealousy as it affects those of different races. (148)
Can we narrow down the concept of jealousy in this play to a specific type? Helen Gardner in Othello:
A Tragedy of Beauty and Fortune sees this play as a study in sexual jealousy:
Othello is not a study in pride, egoism, or self deception: its subject is sexual jealousy, loss of faith in
a form which involves the whole personality at the profound point where body meets spirit. The
solution which Othello cannot accept is Iago s: Put up with it. This is as impossible as that Hamlet
should, like Claudius, behave as if the past were done with and only the present mattered. . . . (144)

George s, The And The Axis During World War II
General S. Patton once said, Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will
surprise you with their ingenuity. Some may argue that his life was cut short while others may say it
was too long. Being a man who fought in World War I and World War II, George S. Patton, Jr.
certainly contained a wealth of experience in warfare. Looking at the written history, there were those
who seemed to undervalue Patton, as well as those who may have held him much too high.
Researchers have many different opinions on Patton s leadership, but the research here will encompass
both the positive and the negative aspects of his leadership and surrounding issues while addressing
the following questions:
1. How was Patton as a leader?
2. Patton versus Politics Did this hold back his true potential?
3. How was Patton viewed by the Allies and the Axis during World War II?
The research put forth will focus on these three questions.
George Smith Patton, Jr. was born November 11, 1885, well over one hundred years ago. He is
famously known for somewhat outrageous personality and his conduct as a general during World War
II. The family he was born into was wealthy and one with a very extensive military background, with
family members having participated in the Revolutionary War, Mexican War, as well as the Civil War.
This may explain a little about Patton s almost obsessive study of military history ranging from the
Romans to the Napoleonic Wars (CMG Worldwide, Inc., n.d.).

Objective:
To observe the biodiversity in a disturbed pond (high human impact) versus an undisturbed pond (low
human impact).
To learn and practice techniques of specimen collection.
To use mathematical indices to calculate biodiversity in a community.
Background Research:
Biodiversity accounts for the difference in life throughout our planet. The different animal kingdoms
throughout ecosystems is the most notable example of biodiversity. Biodiversity is the entire spectrum
of species that live in the biosphere. A small pond such as the ones that will be sampled are
ecosystems to frogs, lilies, and insects and an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Undisturbed Pond had an evenness of .89, while the disturbed pond had an evenness of .606. This
can lead to the assumption that the Undisturbed Pond has greater Biodiversity then the disturbed pond.
This can be attributed towards the affect humans have had on the disturbed pond. The disturbed Pond
has gone through many external factors that could affect its biodiversity. Harmful effects towards the
pond such as dumping or mixing outside water could weed out weaker species, leaving only the most
adapted to survive. The lab can be taken to a larger scale to teste biodiversity in bigger lakes that have
or haven t seen human activity. Lake Sammamish versus a random lake in Fall City would be
interesting to conduct (testing for biodiversity). A sources of error in this lab could have been that the
samples came from different types of areas within the ponds. The disturbed pond s depth is different
than the undisturbed pond, and samples could only be gotten from a small area in the pond. So it is
possible the samples are from different depths within their ponds, and different species could be

Vegetation is also a factor that was not taken account of. One sample is from a highly vegetated area

I Ve Got The Light Of Freedom Analysis
That said, we should not forget that leadership and empowerment often strongly depend on
mobilization. The fact that national leaders existed served to create role models that engendered a
sense of unity and communality. As the media were very selective when it came to the coverage of
local struggles, the attention that leaders like Martin Luther King and others received was important to
force the real and imaginative ties that invigorated the struggles on the local level. Therefore, Payne s
critique entails different layers. First, it is clearly a criticism of a scholarship that selectively focuses
on famous leaders and the most dramatic events. As such, it is a critique of a historical narrative that
provides only a glimpse of what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is understandable that movement scholars tend to write from a rather activist stance.
There is nothing wrong with this per se, however, as historians, we should critically assess in how far
this positioning might limit our scholarship. At times, Payne tends to overemphasize the unity and the
solidarity among the organizers and the local population and fails to mention the tensions among
direct democratic groups like SNCC. Every social movement is made up of people, united under what
they perceive as an urgent need to bring about change. This unity tends to suppress theoretical and
practical differences for some time and can thus create a tremendous amount of communality and
solidarity among its members. However, as history has shown over and over again, as soon as the
external threat either diminishes or proves resistant to change, movements tend to disunite. This is
what Baker and other activists wanted to prevent by modeling their training around local long term
strategies and individual

The Racist Movement
To what extent was the rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 due to Mussolini?
The rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 was largely due to Mussolini himself. It is
worthwhile to examine the consequences of government inefficiency, the growth of the socialist
movement, the support of others as an enabling factor, but his leadership allowed the fascist party to
be relevant, and to take advantage of these other conditions. Though trasformismo and socialism did
destabilise Italian society, it was nevertheless Mussolini who offered solutions; though he assumed
control of the country through Victor Emmanuel s assent, it was him who created alliances to maintain
the position. Thus, Mussolini s opportunist outlook and his command ... Show more content on

In the countryside, the Labour Leagues, a form of rural trade union, was powerful enough to take
control of local governments in areas such as Tuscany and Emilia. In response, the squadristi attacked
the socialist leagues, encouraged by landowners and large farmers, natural supporters of the fascist
movement. By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror, thus providing
financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became tolerated and
normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership once again proved
to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took credit for their role as
protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more conservative, in accordance to
the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist programme was less important than its
spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat . Middle class voters also had cause to support
fascism in its new direction, since the government was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an
example being the Occupation of the Factories in September 1920. In fact, anyone who owned
property, or was better off than an urban worker found appeal in fascism, as it now represented anti
communism, patriotism, but above all, action. It is true that the ras had more direct control of the
squadristi, but Mussolini was the leader who united their causes to take advantage of the socialist
threat that divided Italian society by widening the fascist

Overpopulation And Its Effects On The Environment
Overpopulation is often Times argued as one of the most severe, if not the most severe, environmental
problem. This past year world population exceeded 7.3 billion and continues to grow at an alarming
rate. By the year 2050 it is projected that world population will exceed over nine billion.
Overpopulation puts a serious strain on the world and its resources and is a root cause of many
environmental issues. Issues such as, climate change, diminishing biodiversity, and pollution, are all
just some of the problems caused by overpopulation. In order to control the rapid population growth it
is imperative that countries begin to further educate their citizens in family planning and responsible
resource consumption.
Paul Ehrlich, an American scientist and a former professor of population studies at Stanford
University, states that
For an area to be considered overpopulated; its population reaches a point where it can t be maintained
without rapidly depleting nonrenewable resources (or converting renewable resources into
nonrenewable ones) and without degrading the capacity of the environment to support the population.
(Caion Demaestri)
Studies suggest that when it comes to our consumption of the earth s resources, society is living
beyond its means (Dimick.) Without natural resources, life on earth does not exist and at the rate that
the earth s human population is growing, resources are running out faster than most are aware of.
Finite natural resources, including freshwater,

Market Research Essay
Market Research
Market research is carried out by a business before they launch a product, to find out what the target
market wants and what they could do to increase the appeal of their product. It involves thoroughly
gathering, recording and analysing data and can often take a large amount of time. A wide variety of
market research techniques are used to find out what customers want. Depending on the product,
customers are asked questions like: Where are they? Can we satisfy them? How can we improve our
product for them?
There are two types of market research. The first, Field or Primary Research, is the process of
gathering new information about the market. The term field comes about ... Show more content on

Questionnaires can be carried out a number of ways, including face to face, over the telephone or

* Test marketing/product testing: This is when a product is marketed and tested by a small part of the
total market. The aim of this is to see if the product would be suitable for commercial release, and
what changes can be made to the product to make it better or more suitable.
* Consumer groups/panels: This is where a select group of people are give a product and asked to
comment in detail on what could be improved or changed. It is probably the least effective form of
field research as the sample of people is so small, that fewer opinions can be taken into consideration.
Methods of secondary (desk) research are:
* Government Statistics: Useful sources of information carried out by the government include the
National Census. A full Census is carried out once every ten years in the United Kingdom. It shows
many different sets of data, including age, income, religion and where people live. Government
statistics also include the Family Expenditure Survey and Social Trends.

Plane Crash Of A Cessna Citation 550
Introduction This paper examines the plane crash of a Cessna Citation 550 which impacted into lake
Michigan shortly after takeoff. We will examine the flight crew involved, flight information, crash
details, and the accident investigations about the crash. On further analyzing crashes like this one, we
should have a better understanding on how CRM (crew resource management) and good flight
practices can make flights safer.
History of the Crew There are many factors to take into account when a plane crash occurs, one of
those is the crew and how they performed before the crash occurred. Crashes can happen to a young
pilot as well as a seasoned veteran, so we need to find out if the history of the captain and the first
officer can lead to more conclusions as to how this crash occurred.
Captain
The captain of the aircraft, as many individuals know, is the person who is ultimately responsible for
the safety of the passengers, crew, as well as the aircraft. That being said the captain or chief pilot
should have a good overall background to go along with many hours of flight time. The captain, age
59, was hired by Marlin Air as a line pilot on February 21, 2005. Marlin Air designated him as the
company s chief pilot and then, on August 15, 2005, he was appointed by the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) as Marlin Air s check airman in Cessna Citation 500/550 airplanes. He held a
multi engine airline transport pilot (ATP) certificate with ratings in the Citation 500, 550,

Effects of Technology on Social Relationships Essay
As much as I regret to admit it, I m attached to my phone. I m constantly reaching into my pocket to
check the time, make sure I haven t gotten a new update, or to send a message. I do this even when I
m not talking to anyone! It s become an addiction, having to make sure I m not missing anything, and
I m not the only one who has this problem. Seventy five percent of the world population has a cell
phone, and that number will only increase. With the creation of new technology portions of life have
become easier. Technology has changed the way we go through life. It s made talking to people easier,
as well as keeping up with the lives of others. However, the effects have affected the aspects of our

You re expected to keep it short and sweet, because most people just want to hear the point and move
on. This is noticeable when you talk to people of different ages. The people who have grown up using
technology keep their conversations quick and easy.
There s no more explaining how your day was; you simply state an adjective to describe it and people
accept that. We have become accustomed to reading about other people s thoughts in a hundred and
forty characters or less. Carr mentions that reading short snippets on the internet have affected him in
other ways, When I mention my troubles with reading to friends and acquaintances literary types,
most of them many say they re having similar experiences. The more they use the Web, the more they
have to fight to stay focused on long pieces of writing. (Carr 14) People don t want to read the story of
your day, but it s nice to know you had a good one. Technology has caused our attention span to
shorten in all sides of our lives.
Matt Richtel, another journalist agrees that focusing has become harder with the increase in the use of
technology. He suggests the reason is because of how we obtain the information. Scientists say
juggling email, phone calls and other incoming information can change how people think and behave.
They say out ability to focus is being undermined by bursts of information. These play to a primitive

The Crusades Effects Essay
There were several effects of the Crusades on the European continent. To summary, the European
continent was mainly affect by the in ideology in religion and king s power.
From the Crusader s point of view, Islam and Judaism should be replaces by Christianity totally even
with the help of violence. In this way, the Crusaders began their persecution against the Jews
throughout the European continent. When Jerusalem was finally caught, the Muslim and Jewish
people were killed in bulk. Later, the slaughter against Muslim and Jews was utilized as an excuse to
indict the Roman Catholic Church in the period of Protestant Reformation. As a result of this, many
people in the European began to lose faith in the Roman Catholic Church since it was no longer
regarded as a moral authority.[1] The violence carried out by the Christians was considered to be
brutal. With the increasing scale of influence of the membership within European continent, there was
also an increase in the loyalty to the church. Consequently, the religious tolerance got low, which
made the Jewish in European become an obvious target. The Jewish population was persecuted in the
European continent and it was always the case that the Jewish population would get ... Show more

It was often the case that in the battle, some nobles would die without leaving an heir. In this case, it
was the king who had the right to get the land left by the nobles. The kings collected taxes from the
nobles to pay the Crusades. To pay this tax, some nobles would choose to sell their land and there
were less serfs and peasants needed as a result. In this way, the peasants could feel free to leave, which
was a chance that they never had before.[2] During that period, a lot of young men would choose to
take part in the Crusade. When a men who had land died in the Crusade, the king then was allowed to

Jack London s Love Of Life And To Build A Fire
In history there has been many writers. Jack London is one of those writers with a very special style.
Lots people tend to overlook the style in writing, not focusing on its impact on meaning. Jack London
has developed his own type of style which is deeply shown through their personal writing. In London

situations that could occur or already have. Some examples of this is when Bill left they guys behind
because he hurt his ankle in the story Love of Life . Regionalism is another movement of literature he
used in both stories. They both take place in the Yukon of Alaska along with many other stories he has
written. Last there is naturalism and it is the most used of literature in both of the stories. Both stories

Leister to increase Baldwin s purchasing, inventorying, and production costs over and above the added
costs that would be incurred for a comparable increase in volume for Baldwin s regular products. On
the positive side, Ms. Leister was acutely aware that the bicycle boom had flattened out, and this plus
a poor economy had caused Baldwin s sales volume to fall in the past two years.1 As a result, Baldwin
currently was operating its plant at about 75% of a one shift capacity. Thus, the added volume from Hi
Valu s purchases could possibly be very attractive. If agreement could be reached on prices, Hi Valu
would sign a contract guaranteeing to Baldwin that Hi Valu would buy its own brand bicycles only
from Baldwin for a three year period. The contract would then be automatically extended on a year to
year basis, unless one party gave the other at least three months notice that it did not wish to extend
the contract. Suzanne Leister realized she needed to do some preliminary financial analysis of this
proposal before having any further discussions with Karl Knott. She had written on a pad the
information she had gathered to use in her initial analysis; this information is shown in Exhibit 2. 1
The American bicycle industry is very volatile. From 1967 to 1970 sales average about 7 million units
a year; in 1973 sales were 15 million units; in 1975 sales were back down to 7.5 million units and in
1982 sales were 10 million units. 2 EXHIBIT 1:

  • 2. Annotated Lolita Analysis A Postcolonial view of The Annotated Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov The infamous story of Lolita by author Vladimir Nabokov has been a controversial one since its first release in America in November 1958. The publishing world and the average readers were not prepared or interested in reading a story about a middle aged pedophile and his twelve year old stepdaughter. People were outraged by the book and were repulsed by it, but as the moth is drawn to the flame, so are curious minds and within one week, Lolita became a best selling book. Author Vladimir Nabokov was born in Russia on April 22, 1899 during a time when socially acceptable rules were very different than what we practice in today s society. During the 19th century in Europe, it was common for a man to marry a young girl of only 10 years of age. We can only speculate, that Nabokov writes about the sexual relationship between father and daughter as acceptable through the eyes of Humbert, since this may have been behavior that was familiar to him through friends and family in Russia and his travels throughout Europe. In this story, we can apply the postcolonial theory to the Western born Humbert to the colonization of Dolores Haze. The Europeans invaded America and wanted them to convert to their culture. • 5. My Personal Strengths Essay A Growing up, my parents frequently bombarded me with the celebrated saying: Eat all your food. Some people in the world do not have any . As a kid, I always shrugged this off as just another instance of parents exuding typical parental behavior. Yet as I got older, I came to learn how my parents sayings proved not merely proverbs, but in fact their history. Having lived and grown up in Vietnam, my parents experienced hardships atypical to the average American family; food, funds, and fear from their government. They found food a scarcity, and placing a meal on the table came as an effortful task, so my parents resorted to getting jobs at a young age. Difficulties from the Vietnamese government during the war also contributed to their endless struggles. For an example, my dad, upon my grandfather s forced captivity from the government, became the man of the house, a home with about 500 square feet, for a family of ten. He took care of the entire family at the age of ten years old. Coupled with all the hardships of surviving, such factors resulted in an arduous life for my mother and father. Due to their personal life burdens, they made raising me a priority, thus instilling in me a determination for success and wholesome traits in my personal character. In order to guarantee a future filled with great accomplishments, my parents emphasized the herculean importance of education. At a young age, my parental unit enrolled me in head start, engaged me in piano ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Stalinist Gulag Camps And Violations To Human Rights Stalinist Gulag Camps and Violations to Human Rights There are many types of different labor camps that were meant to confine a group of people, but one of the most significant were Stalinist Gulags, leading to the disappearances of millions of people. The Stalinist Gulags are in violation of many articles, but a few are Articles 4, 5, 9, and 10. Article 4 is stated that no one shall be held in slavery, which in Gulags they are doing forced and unpaid labor. Article 5 states that no one should be subjected to cruel, and degrading treatment or punishment, which there was quite a bit of that happening in gulags. Article 9 says that no one should be subjected to arbitrary arrest (random arrest), detention or exile, people would just be randomly put in the camps if they were thought to be rebels, without a hearing that is. And the last Article, Article 10, states that everyone should have a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, but people would commonly just disappear and no one would know where they went, But really they were taken to Gulags to work. Stalinist Gulags violated the articles of Declaration of Human Rights because of how prisoners were treated and also how they were incarcerated in camps. Gulags were labor camps that were used during the Stalin era, people were sent there for all types of reasons but mostly petty crimes and opinions. • 11. Hmong Social Structure Social Structures: Hmong vs. Lao Migration is inevitable in the case of the aftermath of conflicts and wars. Indochina or mainland Southeast Asia is a region where similar stories of migration result to settlement for diverse groups of people. Two ethnic groups that fall into this story are Hmong and Lao. Both groups have their unique characteristics, ranging from living in different elevations to having distinctive social organization patterns. Both Hmong and Lao have very idiosyncratic ethnic identities. Hmong are known for their diaspora from the mountainous region of southern China into Southeast Asia (Lecture, 02/07/17). They reside in the highlands ranging from 3,500 to 9,000 feet, while Lao reside in the lowlands below 3500 feet (Lecture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hmong followed a patrilineal kinship system. Only men can inherit properties and belongings; the father holds title to family property. When couples are married, residence after marriage is either patrilocal or neolocal, but in the vicinity of paternal house (LeBar, 75). When daughters marry, they move out of the house. Hmong marriage is regarded as a bond between two clans, so they have strict exogamy practices. Hmong men remain members of their birth clan for life (Hein, 68). Each of the family clans have a leader, who is the eldest male of the line. Their society was male centered (Lecture, 01/26/17). On the other hand, Lao followed the Southeast Asian pattern, which was a bilateral kinship system. Kinship ties are felt to be equally strong on both sides, the mother and the father (LeBar, 217). Lao kinship is more laid back compared to Hmong. They pay little attention to genealogies, since tracing more than three generations is difficult for them (LeBar, 217). Both men and women can inherit in the family as well, so Lao women are less subordinate to Lao men. Unlike Hmong, Lao couples have freedom in choosing whether to live on their own or with either spouses family (Lecture, 01/26/17). Lao marriage does not ensue strict exogamy practices, and Lao, traditionally, have no family names. Lao are known by their given names, not family names. • 12. Diversification And Diversification For International Markets Introduction: Diversification and adapting to internationalisation is a way to survive in a competitive business environment and is well researched and adopted in the business world. It is possibly the most logical and secure way for companies to avoid that their share of a given market will not be taken over by other competitors when they try to diversify technologically, geographically or product wise. It also helps reduce the risk by spreading it into different markets. There are many assorted works written about diversification and internationalisation in order to theoretically envisage the optimal level of diversification for international markets that generates the highest growth rate with a minimum level of risk. This study is an investigation of the strategic growth of a small company (Ravi Rice) based in the city of Jhang, Pakistan. Since the business was established, it has found difficulty in gaining more customers and it is localized in its certain area. This was a big problem for the company affecting its sales and growth overtime, management had to overcome this hurdle, because the company would not be able to survive with its current customers, despite having a large production but limited market share. To over come this delinquent and to get rid of the current situation, it was necessary to adopt a viable expansion strategy for long run business, company needed the change and being the marketing and finance manger of the company our job was to achieve ... Under the CSGU questionnaire, each individual dimension is assessed with a four item subscale. Firstly, participants were asked to note the main reason for their performance, stated in an open end question. Following this, questions were asked which measured attribution dimensions in relation to the previous statement. The temperature changes and the sea level rise, this has a negative impact on food production, water availability, human health, biological environment and infrastructure in coastal areas. President Bill Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal Essay Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal On January 17th, 1998, President Clinton videotaped a deposition for the Paula Jones lawsuit against him. December 19th, eleven months later, Bill Clinton became only the second president in our nation s history to face impeachment from congress. The 1998 1999 was a tumultuous year for the President, the media, and the American people as a whole. Yet, the most intriguing and surprising aspect of the scandal was not that Bill Clinton would ever cheat on his wife or that his administration would survive such a terrible scandal. Nor was it a revelation that the media would be zealously intrigued by a sex scandal involving the President. The one aspect of the Lewinksy Scandal that was truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it is too early to accurately judge the presidency of Bill Clinton, most would agree that he was successful in office. He was the first democrat to successfully be reelected since Franklin Roosevelt. Yet, when a sufficient amount of time has passed and historians attempt to categorize and analyze Bill Clinton s presidency, his legacy will ultimately be tied to scandal. The numerous scandals that Clinton faced and survived were an important aspect of the Clinton presidency. On one hand, they showed the well documented weakness of Clinton s personal character his infidelities, his evasiveness, and his lack of integrity. Yet, Clinton s ability to survive these scandals are a true testament how politically cunning and brilliant the man was. In examining the political life of Bill Clinton, five major scandals stick out: his draft record; Gennifer Flowers and Infidelity; the Marijuana controversy; Whitewater; the Lewinsky Affair. Any one of these scandals could easily and have on numerous occasions ruin a political career. Yet, in each of these episodes Clinton was unusually adept at surviving and restoring his image. The importance of illustrating Clinton s past encounters with scandal is not to show the moral weakness of Clinton s character; nor is it to show cagey moves of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barnes Noble s mission statement is to operate the best omni channel specialty retail business in America, helping both our customers and booksellers reach their aspirations, while being a credit to the communities we serve (Booksellers, 2012). When I walked into Barnes Noble, it gave me a home like environment. Their shelves hold 20 to 200 thousand titles of books. Groups of couches and chairs are placed throughout the store to sit in while reading books and magazines. I feel like they wanted to give the store a home feeling as if you were just sitting in your own home reading a book. I know when I started to walk around the store it made me feel like I was at home. As I started to look around at books, I noticed a couch. I went and sat down for a bit, overviewing the book. Another feature I noticed about the store was people on their Nook. They have Wi Fi to browse the internet for books to add to their Nook. When I was in Barnes Noble I saw a number of functional qualities. • 17. The Success Of A Business Owner Being an entrepreneur is about believing in something and standing for what you believe in. The reasons entrepreneurs start businesses is to be successful as well as to make money. No one ever starts a business with the intent to fail, however if a business does fail most entrepreneurs learn from their mistakes and try again. The mentality of successful business owner is an I will not lose attitude that motivates that person to not accept failure as an option. Having what it takes to survive and succeed is a core value of entrepreneurs, making it your civil duty to find solutions to problems people face on a daily basis. In my research I think the main objective of an entrepreneur, is to change the world in a way that will benefit everyone in one way or another. This is the entrepreneurs right and clear intention to make sure they are operating from a good intent and integrity. Entrepreneurs that have achieved a pinnacle of success often ask themselves, How can I help? or better yet you ask yourself, How can I serve? . These are the the main motivating factors an entrepreneur needs to create a plan of action. Any entrepreneur that is successful in business has an instinctive ability to see problems and needs that people have as an opportunity to apply their entrepreneurial capabilities to come up with solutions and satisfy a person s problems or needs. Physical Dimensions And Land Title Act Physical dimensions of property Property comes with stings attached; a fee simple owner can enjoy a bundle of rights but there are a number of reservations to the Crown as well as restrictions on the physical dimensions and use of property. By utilizing a fundamental principle of Ad coelum doctrine and a three dimensional concept; surface, airspace and subsurface of property, rights of landownership and use of property will be examined. Then I will present three cases that modified the principle or physical dimensions. The basic principle Historically the common law maxim: cujus est solum ejus est usque ad coelum et ad inferos He who owns the soils, owns up to the heavens and down to the depth of the earth, was said to apply to physical dimensions of property. Ad coelum doctrine, however, is largely outdated and inaccurate in BC because the use and the extent of land in three dimensions are regulated. Before discussing rights and restrictions, I will explain physical boundaries. Boundaries and Land Title Act In old days, description of boundaries of land used physical objects. Toady in BC with a few exceptions, meets and bounds, measurement of distances, angles, and directions measured by surveyors, are included in Land Title System. Stage 1 English SACE ID: 532883T The King s Speech is a 2010 movie directed by Tom Hooper which explores the plight of Prince Albert, who has an awful speech impediment, in his reluctant ascension to the throne. Intertextual references to specific external texts, such as Peter Pan, the Tempest, Swanee River and Hamlet, are used proficiently throughout the film to examine and emphasise a range of broader themes of duty, friendship and overcoming challenges. Hooper consciously references Swanee River as Bertie s favourite song in the film; further enhancing the viewer s understanding of the theme of the temptation to disregard duty. In the song, the narrator recalls and laments for his childhood life; When I was young, Den many happy days I squandered, When I was playing wid my brudder, Happy was I; Oh, take me to my kind old mudder!. The narrator wishes for his childhood life, to never grow up like Peter Pan, similar to the state of Bertie throughout the film. Bertie s indication of Swanee River as his favourite song further illustrates the temptation he feels to neglect his duty to the royal family and follow in his brothers footsteps. Ultimately, the intertwining intertextual references of Peter Pan and Swanee River exemplify that although to neglect one s duties and obligations, whether it be to the English monarchy, to your family or yourself, may be tempting, to disregard can be selfish, lazy and fundamentally detrimental to your own life. Bertie and Lionel develop a strong but unlikely and unorthodox friendship over the course of their therapy sessions which is vital to the development of Bertie s emotional wellbeing and his speech impediment. This theme of the value of friendship and the establishment of unlikely friendship is implicitly explored through an intertextual reference to the Shakespearian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I graduated college I knew I wanted a career as an attorney. Prior to committing myself to law school, I wanted to gain some insight into the legal world through experience. Summary Of Prokofiev s Harmonic And Key Relations Prokofiev s Harmonic Idiosyncrasies and Key Relations in the Classical Symphony Prokofiev s Classical Symphony is, oddly enough, one of his few pieces to garner much theoretical and musicological interest. However, much of it seems to be misguided at best and more likely missing the point altogether. This is not to say that everyone is wrong, to the contrary, most folks are not, the problem is that the theorist and musicologist cannot seem to get on the same page. The enduring question is not, as most would see it, whether or not the Classical Symphony is in fact classical (or for that matter, if it is a symphony at all some have stated that it is more of a divertimento) but rather why it is so infectiously hip and so absolutely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Richard Bass, however, does seem to understand Prokofiev s language, even though he does not write about the first movement of the Classical Symphony. He describes Prokofiev s language as chromatic displacement. I describe it the way a jazz musician might, which is sidestepping, but it is really the same thing. Malcom Brown rails against Prokofiev for his shoe horned return to the tonic in the second half of the primary theme, yet that is what makes the whole phrase work. That is what made it Prokofiev s and no one elses. This detour, by half step or whole step is the underlying modus operandi for much of Prokofiev s melodic ideas. We hear it in Peter and the Wolf, in the 5th symphony Scherzo, in Mercutio, from Romeo and Juliet, and we hear it in the first twenty seconds of the Classical Symphony. So with that in mind, I will be analysing Prokofiev s Classical Symphony through the lense of harmonic variance, and occasionally rhythmic variance, since harmonic weight and hypermeter are so often entwined. I will discuss, along with the basic formal structure of each movement, Prokofiev s unique harmonic language as sussed out in the classical style. The treaty of Waitangi is considered to be the founding document of the English and European control and settlement in New Zealand. After the treaty s signing in 1840 it has played a huge role in legal affairs and the treatment of both European New Zealanders and Maori New Zealanders. Though there is dispute as to the correct or incorrect translation from English to Maori and vice versa, the treaty has on the whole created a harmonious existence between the two cultures. In 1832 after a plea for help and protection sent to the French and English by the Maori, the English sent James Busby to be the British Resident in New Zealand, which would lead to the later appointment of William Hobson as the Lieutenant Governor of New Zealand. In 1834 James Busby drafted a document known as the Declaration of Independence of New Zealand . The most basic parts of robots are the physical frame, a motor, a sensor system, the power supply, and a computer, that controls the robot. Most robots have movable joints, or wheels which are controlled by an actuator, a mechanism that controls equipment (Gibilisco 1994). • 29. Analysis Of Gerald Davis s The Vanishing American... In the text The Vanishing American Corporation by Gerald Davis the corporate economy is a term of the past. According to Davis we are in the midst of the third industrial revolution (Davis 167). The reason is a combination of factors such as technology, the industrial movement, and inequality and political struggles to tame the market. More specifically novice and new technology began the collapse of the corporation. Since corporations ceased to exist the economy is unpredictable and unstable. Many of the once solid positions are replaced by offshoring work to other countries. Many people are unemployed however the unemployed remain undocumented. Given the unemployed remain undocumented the published unemployment figures convey the unemployment rate has gone down. Yet at the same time the labor force has dropped since 1977. The cause of undocumented unemployed citizens results from the number of social security not counted on the unemployment data. According to Davis the past two decades substantially outnumbers the unemployed. Many Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) citizens remain permanently unemployed. Also, many citizens live off part time jobs and rote tasks. Davis describes the end of the corporation as an apocalypse in nature. Davis colorfully illustrate the current job market is like an unmapped island full of dense rain forests, prone to earthquakes that rearrange the landscape, and with a volcano at the center (Davis 183). Many compare the instability of the economy of today to the 2008 financial meltdown. According to author Joel Havemann in 2008 the nation documented the economy as the world s worst dangerous crisis since The Great Depression since 2007. Afterward in 2008 a deep recession encompassed the world (. However, the 2008 crisis is not the same as the same as today. According to Censoo.com while losses could continue, the U.S. appears, at the moment, to be in a better position to weather them. That could keep a market downturn from morphing into a full blown financial crisis that then leads to an economic one (Censoo). Evidence from the article Shop Happy that further bolsters this claim is shown when the author states, Wanting to acquire the things that we see and like is as natural as breathing. Babies want to touch things, taste them, bash them against the wall. We appease them with shining objects, distract them with new toys (Smith). The quote above sheds light upon how counterfeit values, namely those interconnected to the fostering of avarice among Americans, exacerbate financial situations to a noteworthy degree, thus yielded a drastic escalation in the numbers of underprivileged individuals. Delving deeper into the specifics, the blatantly obvious sense of egocentrism exercised by affluent coteries of American citizens perpetuates the nation s fixation in an economically rudimentary state, with poorer individuals striving to remain socially tantamount with the affluent. In addition to the inevitable vicissitudes of a stereotypical wage slave lifestyle, the widespread desire to cope with the capricious state of the American economy furthermore aggrandizes the burden placed upon the impoverished. Yet another driving force behind the nearly ubiquitous state of poverty that prevails in America today is exemplified when Schlosser, in her novel In The Strawberry Fields, states, In Watsonville, three to four families will share a small house, seven or eight people to a room. Migrants routinely pay $100 to $200 a month to sleep in a garage with anywhere from four to ten other people. Despite the hardships that accompany the job, there is an oversupply of people hoping to pick strawberries. Another constant worry is finding a place to sleep (Schlosser 433). Another practice that is revealed, was their belief that God will guide Muslims in their daily lives, so that, they would reach Allah in heaven. God took their sick hearts and makes them sicker, punishing them for their disbelief. This did appear to be contradictory, as Muslims and the Qur an heavily emphasized God s compassion and mercy. In this case, God was not showing mercy to the disbelievers, contradicting the Qur an s initial statements about their belief of who God was. 3) What does this selection say about religious violence? With all respect, as students, we should be able to express our opinions as teachers are allowed to do so. Declaration of Student Rights Let if be know, as American students, we believe we have our own rights. Statements As students, trying to regain dress code freedom, we have tried numerous times to dress freely and wear warmer clothes in the winter time; but, we always get in trouble. Our opinions have been denied over and over again. We have written anonymous letters to our Queen about our justifiable rights, but things have not changed, so we must go to war for our rights. Our Queen s propaganda can be proven wrong by the counterarguments that we have. As students, we have to support our opinions and what we believe is right. Conclusion We therefore, declare war for our independence and we must fight for what we deserve. As a result of declaring this war, we as students want to have a free dress code policy and express ourselves independently. With the help of literary critics, we can analyze this subject in detail. In the essay Wit and Witchcraft: an Approach to Othello Robert B. Heilman discusses the ancient s instinctive reaction to the love theme of the play: Before coming directly to the forming of the love theme that differentiates Othello from other Shakespeare plays that utilize the same theme, I turn arbitrarily to Iago to inspect a distinguishing mark of his of which the relevance to thematic form in the play will appear a little later. Campbell categorizes Othello as a study in jealousy : Othello has suffered less in its modern interpretation than any other of Shakespeare s tragedies, it would seem. So insistently did Shakespeare keep this tragedy unified about the theme of jealousy and the central victims of the passion, so obviously did he mould his plot about the black Moor and the cunning Iago and the victims of their jealousy that no interpreter has been able to ignore the obvious intention of the author. Yet if we study the contemporary interpretations of the passion here portrayed, we find that Shakespeare was following in detail a broader and more significant analysis of the passion than has in modern days been understood. The play is, however, clearly a study in jealousy and in jealousy as it affects those of different races. (148) Can we narrow down the concept of jealousy in this play to a specific type? Helen Gardner in Othello: A Tragedy of Beauty and Fortune sees this play as a study in sexual jealousy: Othello is not a study in pride, egoism, or self deception: its subject is sexual jealousy, loss of faith in a form which involves the whole personality at the profound point where body meets spirit. The solution which Othello cannot accept is Iago s: Put up with it. This is as impossible as that Hamlet should, like Claudius, behave as if the past were done with and only the present mattered. . . . (144) Of course, jealousy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some may argue that his life was cut short while others may say it was too long. Being a man who fought in World War I and World War II, George S. Patton, Jr. certainly contained a wealth of experience in warfare. Looking at the written history, there were those who seemed to undervalue Patton, as well as those who may have held him much too high. Researchers have many different opinions on Patton s leadership, but the research here will encompass both the positive and the negative aspects of his leadership and surrounding issues while addressing the following questions: 1. He is famously known for somewhat outrageous personality and his conduct as a general during World War II. The family he was born into was wealthy and one with a very extensive military background, with family members having participated in the Revolutionary War, Mexican War, as well as the Civil War. This may explain a little about Patton s almost obsessive study of military history ranging from the Romans to the Napoleonic Wars (CMG Worldwide, Inc., n.d.). He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To learn and practice techniques of specimen collection. To use mathematical indices to calculate biodiversity in a community. Background Research: Biodiversity accounts for the difference in life throughout our planet. The different animal kingdoms throughout ecosystems is the most notable example of biodiversity. Biodiversity is the entire spectrum of species that live in the biosphere. A small pond such as the ones that will be sampled are ecosystems to frogs, lilies, and insects and an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Undisturbed Pond had an evenness of .89, while the disturbed pond had an evenness of .606. This can lead to the assumption that the Undisturbed Pond has greater Biodiversity then the disturbed pond. This can be attributed towards the affect humans have had on the disturbed pond. The disturbed Pond has gone through many external factors that could affect its biodiversity. Harmful effects towards the pond such as dumping or mixing outside water could weed out weaker species, leaving only the most adapted to survive. The lab can be taken to a larger scale to teste biodiversity in bigger lakes that have or haven t seen human activity. Lake Sammamish versus a random lake in Fall City would be interesting to conduct (testing for biodiversity). A sources of error in this lab could have been that the samples came from different types of areas within the ponds. The disturbed pond s depth is different than the undisturbed pond, and samples could only be gotten from a small area in the pond. So it is possible the samples are from different depths within their ponds, and different species could be adapted to different depths, and there could naturally be less species at this level of the pond. Vegetation is also a factor that was not taken account of. One sample is from a highly vegetated area (undisturbed pond). There are naturally more species near vegetation as the use it for protection (Farmer Fred), so the results could be skewed. This suggests an additional experiment, one that could look for the difference species in the ponds, and look for the species that is dominating the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fact that national leaders existed served to create role models that engendered a sense of unity and communality. Every social movement is made up of people, united under what they perceive as an urgent need to bring about change. This unity tends to suppress theoretical and practical differences for some time and can thus create a tremendous amount of communality and solidarity among its members. The rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 was largely due to Mussolini himself. It is worthwhile to examine the consequences of government inefficiency, the growth of the socialist movement, the support of others as an enabling factor, but his leadership allowed the fascist party to be relevant, and to take advantage of these other conditions. Though trasformismo and socialism did destabilise Italian society, it was nevertheless Mussolini who offered solutions; though he assumed control of the country through Victor Emmanuel s assent, it was him who created alliances to maintain the position. In the countryside, the Labour Leagues, a form of rural trade union, was powerful enough to take control of local governments in areas such as Tuscany and Emilia. In response, the squadristi attacked the socialist leagues, encouraged by landowners and large farmers, natural supporters of the fascist movement. By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror, thus providing financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became tolerated and normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership once again proved to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took credit for their role as protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more conservative, in accordance to the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist programme was less important than its spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat . Middle class voters also had cause to support fascism in its new direction, since the government was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an example being the Occupation of the Factories in September 1920. In fact, anyone who owned property, or was better off than an urban worker found appeal in fascism, as it now represented anti communism, patriotism, but above all, action. This past year world population exceeded 7.3 billion and continues to grow at an alarming rate. By the year 2050 it is projected that world population will exceed over nine billion. Overpopulation puts a serious strain on the world and its resources and is a root cause of many environmental issues. Issues such as, climate change, diminishing biodiversity, and pollution, are all just some of the problems caused by overpopulation. In order to control the rapid population growth it is imperative that countries begin to further educate their citizens in family planning and responsible resource consumption. Paul Ehrlich, an American scientist and a former professor of population studies at Stanford University, states that For an area to be considered overpopulated; its population reaches a point where it can t be maintained without rapidly depleting nonrenewable resources (or converting renewable resources into nonrenewable ones) and without degrading the capacity of the environment to support the population. We will examine the flight crew involved, flight information, crash details, and the accident investigations about the crash. On further analyzing crashes like this one, we should have a better understanding on how CRM (crew resource management) and good flight practices can make flights safer. History of the Crew There are many factors to take into account when a plane crash occurs, one of those is the crew and how they performed before the crash occurred. Crashes can happen to a young pilot as well as a seasoned veteran, so we need to find out if the history of the captain and the first officer can lead to more conclusions as to how this crash occurred.
