2. Lbw Case Studies
Overall, of 103830 records 82534 mothers data were analyzed that were obtained
from the Commonwealth of Virginia s Certificate of Live Birth. Descriptive results
of maternal and birth characteristics are shown in Table 1. Approximately, 57% of the
mothers were white, 33% black, 7% Asian, and 3.6% other ethnicities, respectively.
29% of the maternal age at delivery was between 20 24 years old, 22% was between
25 29 years old, 19% was between 30 34 years old, 14% was between 19 years and
younger, 11% was between 35 39 years old, and 4% was between 40 years and older,
respectively. The number of LBW babies ( 2500 g) among mothers who smoked and
non smoked were 1359 (1.6%) and 81144 (98.3%), respectively. 16 % of mothers
who smoked (n=5544) gave low birth weight babies. 5.4% of low birth weight babies
had mothers smoked between 10 14 cigarettes per day.
The prevalence of low birth weight by different characteristics of mothers and
births is shown in Table 2. The higher prevalence of low birth weight was among
black women, which was (OR= 2.70%, 95% CI [2.45 2.95]) and lowest prevalence of
low birth weight babies were among white women, which were (OR=1.30%, 95% CI

The risk of maternal age statistically significant increased LBW infants to mothers
who smoked (OR= 5.73, 95% CI [3.93, 8.34]). Thus, there was a potential confounder
with third variables (maternal age) that affect an association between LBW and
mothers who smoked during pregnancy. The crude OR of mothers who smoked and
non smoked was (OR= 2.80, 95% CI [2.41, 3.23]). For controlling the maternal age
confounder we calculated the Mantel Haenszel (OR=2.50, 95% [2.15, 2.90]). Thus,
the risk of low births weight statistically significant increased LBW babies to mothers
who smoked 2.50 times compared with LBW to mothers who non smoked when
adjusted by maternal

I have conducted an interview with a client and in my paper I will explain my
experience and how I used the skills we have gone over in class. In the paper I will
have a description of my client, my assessment, a summary of the interview,
process analysis, and analysis of professional use of self. Not only will I assess the
interviewer but myself as well. I will include all the interviewing skills I used and
the ones I didn t. Also, whether or not I used a particular skill or technique in the
right situation and was it effective. I will share what I observed while during the
interview, the use of questions I used, and did I show empathy. Last I will share my
feelings and thoughts of the interview, any errors I have made, and if I had a chance
to replay it what would I have done different.
Description of client The client I interviewed was a black African American
woman. Her name is Tonya Dukes and lives in Pennington Alabama. She is 41
years old and is middle class. She lives in a community that is rural. She attends
school at Alabama Southern Community College and is majoring in nursing. Her
plans are to finish in July 2017 and move to Florida. Her dreams one day is meet
her someone, to get married, and move far away from her home time. She has one

5. Birmingham Church Bombing Research Paper
The Birmingham Church bombing occurred on September 15, 1963. The bomb
exploded on a Sunday morning before church services at the 16th Street Baptist
Church in Birmingham, Alabama, a church with a mostly black congregation. It was
also served as a meeting place for civil rights leaders. Four young girls were killed
and many others were injured in the explosion. Outrage over this incident and the
clash between protesters and police helped draw national attention to the dangerous
struggle for African American civil rights. The brutal attack shocked the nation and
drew international attention to the violent struggle for civil rights in Birmingham.
Many whites were as angered by the incident as blacks. Over 8,000 people attended
the girls funeral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

most iconic and troubling images of the Civil Rights Movement. President John F.

6. Facts About The Best Evidence Rule
The best evidence rule is a rule that applies when someone wants to admit some
form of evidence that is a document but the actual original document is not
available for admission. Unfortunately, when this happen the party that wants to
admit the evidence has to give an acceptable excuse to why the original documents
are unavailable or absent. Therefore, the courts has to decide if the excuse is
acceptable and allow the party to use their secondary evidence in order to prove
their case or that the content of the document in order for it to be admissible as
evidence in the case. Unlike, any other rule this rule only applies when a party is
trying to prove that all of the content in the document is worthy of being admitted as
evidence if the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the U.S. court system implemented this rule but if one party suspects that
the copy or copies have been altered or it s a fraud than this comes into play for that
case.
The rationale behind its application was to find the best evidence within a case but
due to fraud and the mishandling of evidence this rule was created. It helps to
prevent anyone from trying to mislead or even lie about a certain piece of evidence.
Furthermore, it eliminates anyone from having to guess if in fact that the evidence
is from the actual original copy of if some part of the evidence had been changed at
some point in order to get a guilty or innocent verdict in the case.
After reviewing each the case of Olmstead v. United States, Nardone v. United States,
Goldman v. United States, Berger v. New York and Katz v. United StatesI have found
that each one of these case dealt with wiretapping and whether it was legal for the
police or government to tap into their phone lines and use the evidence found in
tapping in court as evidence in order to get a guilty verdict. For example, in the case
of Olmstead v. United States individuals were convicted of liquor related crimes to
include conspiracy. Now the main person in the conspiracy was the general manager
of the business which was Olmstead. The business had main office was in
7. My First Car Crash
Everybody remembers getting their very first car and discovering the limits they
could push with their car. Well, my first car was not anything special, just a bright
red 2008 Chevy Aveo5 Hatchback, which had a little less than eighty thousand
miles on it and was a manual transmission. This type of vehicle was far from being
considered fast, but at least it was enjoyable to drive due to it being a stick shift.
One of the worst habits an experienced driver can acquire is speeding, which I used
to experiment to see the maximum speedI could reach with my small red car.
Consequently, this mindset would all change after I endured the very first car crash
of my life in April, 2016.
It was a late Friday night, and I had just received a text from ... Show more content on

The car suddenly went off the road and into a large ditch, catching some air as its
forward momentum continued. The car and I abruptly stopped after we went head
first into a tree. At the same time, hearing and seeing the airbag go off, but also the
sound of screeching tortured metal crumpling as it hit the tree is what stains my
mind. The airbag obscured my vision and the plume of smoke that followed right
after. The smell of used gunpowder is what penetrated the air as I begin to get out
of the shock of what just happened. At first, I thought the car was going to set on
fire, so I quickly kicked open the crumpled door to get out. Once I was out, I was
struggling to get out of the thorn bushes that surrounded the perimeter of the
vehicle, which completely shredded both of my legs in the process. I was more
injured by the thorn bushes, than the actual crashed, which I found humorous. After
looking at the mangled metal that used to be my first car, I started to realize how
lucky I was. I was personally more angered about my stupidity than anything else,
yelling obscenities as a few people started to come closer to see if I was okay and
inspect the
8. My List Of Goals As An Early Childhood Teacher
Introduction
It is important to develop a philosophy of teaching and learning. Our philosophy
drives our passion for teaching, influences our teaching styles, sets our core values,
provides strength during challenges and constantly reminds us the importances of self
development and learning.
My philosophy is based upon my life experience, cultural values, interpersonal
relationships, interest, studies and education background. I believe the core values of
my philosophy will not change, however, refined and adjusted to meet my goals. I
believe learning is an ongoing progress and children are precious and unique
individuals. It is this belief that drives my philosophy that all students must have the
opportunity to learn and be respected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this reason, it is important to deliver a learning environment where children s
development and learning is supported. It is apparent that all students can learn and
teachers need to provide students with a variety of learning opportunities for effective
learning, for example, using diversified resources rather than focusing on worksheets
and making use of multiple intelligences and multi sensory experiences to facilitate
the different potential of students (Duchesne, McMaugh, Bochner Krause, 2013,
chapter 1).
Teaching/Pedagogy
My list of goals as an early childhood teacher are:
1.to feel excited to go to work every day, and to providing an environment for
children where children want to learn and go to school
2.to build strong relationships with students, families, colleagues and the community,
so that we can work cooperatively to learn, grow and support
3.to encourage children to be independent, but also not to be afraid to ask for help
and have a lifelong passion for creativity, innovation and learning.
4.to create resources that are practical, functional and visually appealing
5.to plan a well balance routine, that includes a time to rest, eat and play and a
learning environment that is safe and accessible for all children.

10. The Field Of The Investigative Journalism
In this article, Bourdieu proposes that the television has impacted the journalistic
field in a wider and strong way that other cultural transformations did before within
the cultural field. Doing so, says Bourdieu, television and journalistic field have
also triggered transformations in other fields upon which journalism has an impact.
As it is performed, the journalistic field tends to reinforce the economic
(commercial) field instead of the pure one. Following Bourdieu, the journalistic
field was settled during the 19th Century through the opposition between the
sensationalist newspapers and the analytical or serious newspapers (p. 4).
Additionally, the article is helpful for my final project because it sketches ways to
measure the autonomy of the journalistic field (p. 4). Bourdieu s contribution to
journalism studies is helpful to explore and analyze the Chilean journalistic field,
particularly the sub field of the investigative journalism, as I propose. Bourdieu says
that his intention is not to point out who and how are responsible or guilty about
the state of the French journalistic field by his time, but rather to provoke a critical
self consciousness among journalists and promote larger freedom for them and other
cultural producers. 7.Bourdieu, P. (2005). The political field, the social science field,

11. Abuse Of Power In 1984
Abuse of power and control evidently plays a huge role in the dystopian society
described by George Orwell in his startling novel , 1984. The political party in
control despises any concepts they can t control so they try to undermine the
feelings of pleasure and love to gain more control over the people they govern. Big
Brother does not want individuals to be forming relationships and bonds it could
not possibly break or control because they fear that it could hinder someone s
unconditional loyalty towards the party and it s ideals. The pleasure and eroticism
in sex doesn t exist in this society; the party believes that all sexual acts should be of
benefit for the party and the only reason of intercourse would be to create new party

The government does this to keep complete control over the cravings of the people.
They control rations in order to keep the people from becoming too attached to
objects that cause them pleasure. Humans tend to d rebell and participate in foolish
acts in order to obtain object the might think they need a clear cut example exists on
page 164, He knew that he was starving the other two, but he could not help it; he
even felt that he had a right to do it. The clamorous hunger in his belly seemed to
justify him. This incident portrays the idea that humans will do anything in order to
obtain something they crave. These types of feelings made the government feel
threatened. Nevertheless, winston knowing that he was hurting his family, he seemed
to not care and continued with his rebellious act.
The act of suppressing pleasure isn t a unique concept to 1984, however it greatly
contributes to the story line. Various feelings are subdued or repressed by the
government in order to keep the people they control in order. They are petrified by
the fact that these feelings could possibly fuel rebellion and the people will no
longer see them as a viable and trustworthy government. These concepts play a huge
role in the book The Giver in which the society is governed by its own totalitarian
government. Big Brother simply believed that love was too strong of a bond to

12. Folk Tale And Tale Comparison
In our time period, folktales and myths can occur in daily life. They share a
relevance in our actions, our choices, and our feelings. For example, in today s
world we are like the greek gods and goddesses. They are often jealous of one
another and fight with each other over foolish things like today people will fight
over foolish things and share some jealousy. Although people may disagree with
tales sharing similarities, tales like The Apple Of Discord still connect with our
actions, choices, and feelings in today s world. The Poem Apple of Discord by
Kate Hovey, is about the goddess of discord, Eris. Eris is angry at the gods and other
goddesses because the exclude her, yet she is doing the same thing they are.

Hawthorne, the author of Scarlet Letter, characterizes innocent looking Pearl, who
plays as a wolf in the sheep s skin that brings adversities to her surroundings, by
using her actions, thoughts, and speeches, and he shapes a vivacious Pearl in order
to form a contrast with the depressing Puritan society. Mentioning Pearl as worthy
to have been brought forth in Eden , imbued with a spell of infinite variety , and
comparing Pearl s voice to the sweet warble sound of birds, Hawthorne first brought
an immaculate Pearl into the readers sight (Chap.6). However, her behaviors do not
correspond to her looking, but characterize her as a demon. She would grow possibly
terrible when things go against her, and would snatch up stones to fling at others.
14. A Palace In Time Heschel Analysis
As a dimension widely considered inextricable from human existence as a whole,
concepts of time and temporal existence often intersect with those of sacredness and
spirituality. Indeed, many religions equate time to mortality, with the temporal
representing the irreligious and worldly confines that precede eternity, Heaven, or
Enlightenment. Contrarily, within the introductory chapter of his text The Sabbath,
entitled A Palace in Time, author and Jewish mystic Abraham Joshua Heschel
eloquently proposes the glorification of time as an inherently divine element.
To Heschel, time evokes divinity. The sabbatical observance and glorification of the
seventh day runs adjacent to that of God, who, accordingly, did not lackadaisically
rest on the seventh day but rather deliberately built the Sabbath and its underlying
concept of menuhah abstractly defined by the author as tranquility, serenity, peace,
repose, and perhaps most importantly the essence of good life. Heschel
conceptualizes the Jewish Sabbath as a recurrent, sanctified moment in time by
which holiness exudes; essentially, his conception of sabbatical observation does not
equate to the popular, non theological understanding of Sabbath as rest and ... Show

Instead, Heschel emphasizes the importance of the Sabbath as a moment of
celebration of the majesty of holiness in time, a day by which observant Jews carve
out holiness in the experiential moments of time amid the materialism of tangible
space. Time particularly, sabbatical time thereby does not undermine the practical
importance of labor and civilization, but instead grants meaning to these spatial
elements. In short, as Heschel asserts, It is not a thing that lends significance to a
moment; it is the moment that lends significance to

Estimating Exchange Rate Volatility with GARCH Models

1 Introduction
?The increased importance being attached to exchange rates is a result of the
globalisation of modern business, the continuing growth in world trade relative to
national economies, the trend towards economic integration and the rapid pace of
change in the technology of money transfer.? (Copeland, Laurence S. 2014). In 21th
July 2005, Chinese authority announced that the exchange rate system changed, from
the dollar peg to the floating basket peg system. Recently, since the volatility in the
forex market is growing, which makes there is increase concern about forecasting of
exchange rate movements. (Schnabl, 2008).
It is well known that currencies exchange rates is difficult to forecast accurately.
There are a lot of models can be used to get relatively accurate estimating result of
volatility. Using those models to research currency exchange rate volatility is
necessary. A timely and accurate exchange rate estimating can provide valuable
information in various fields, such as, economy, finance and polity, which is helpful
to get more effective portfolio allocation, better foreign exchange rate investment
result, more accurate assets pricing and more efficient politics administration.
In international finance filed, there are many studies focus on modelling the

16. A Great Mistake Of The Athenians
This was a great mistake of the Athenians, as Thucydides claims, most of them
(Athenians) being ignorant of its (Sicily) size and of the number of its inhabitants,
Hellenic and barbarian, and of the fact that they were undertaking a war not much
inferior to that against the Peloponnesians . So, Athens undervalued Sicilyand
overvalued their (the Athenians) greatness. Nicias tried to warn citizens about the
wealth and strength of the Sicilian states enemies they would have to challenge, and
insisted on a great preparation and investments in the expedition to make it
possible. He also added: Indeed, even if we leave Athens with a force not only equal
to that of the enemy except in the number of heavy infantry in the field, but even at
all points superior to him, we shall still find it difficult to conquer Sicilyor save
ourselves .
The preparation for the expedition began and the departure to Sicily took place. It
worth saying that all Athenians were taking part in preparation, the government and
citizens did their best. Indeed this armament that first sailed out was by far the most
costly and splendid Hellenic force that had ever been sent out by a single city up to
that time .
Alcibiades, one of the generals of the expedition, had a lot of enemies in Athens,
due to his luxury life and desire to get as much fame as possible. So, before the
departure of expedition his enemies tried to do everything to implicate him in
scandals and expose. All in all Alcibiades was

I.INTRODUCTIONWith the advent of modern controls theory and in the
semiconductor technology, the use of high sophisticated technologies, advance
digital controllers and embedded systems which include microprocessors, DSPs
(digital signal processors), ASICs (application specific integrated circuits), and
FPGAs (field programmable gate arrays).in the area of AC power control have
become global challenges nowadays[1]. Recently FPGAs have become a good
alternative answer and have been generally accepted as a tool for the controller`s
platform in high performance embedded control system[2]. This device completely

Also during this period of time Ma Bo and company attacked the very status quo

Maoist principle of class struggle, but regular peasants who kept to themselves and
were the very base of the Communist Party became under attack as well. Ma Bo
even admits to answering Mao s call to revolution by playing an extensive role in
their suffering. Through fulfilling Mao s class struggle theories he was a brutal

20. Stretching Technique Lab Report
1. Introduction (200 words)
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) is one of the many different types
of stretching techniques out there. This specific technique has basis in a method
known as contract and relax. This method involves relaxation and an isometric
contraction of the involved muscle. Another component of PNF is that it in order
for it to be performed correctly, there must be two individuals involved in the
process, the first doing the stretching (their partner) and the second getting stretched.
The complete procedure involves four steps, the first being a passive force being
applied by the partner, keeping in mind that said force does not include the entire
range of motion (ROM). Next, the one being stretched would apply ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hindle colleagues have found that the technique of PNF assists in increasing the
ROM of a muscle by increasing both the neuromuscular efficiency and length of the
muscle being stretched. This effect is achieved due to the gate control theory, which
is the effect that occurs when two different kinds of stimuli activate each of their
receptors at the same time. It is believed that the gate control theory works with the
golgi tendon organs (GTOs) that work to prevent injury to a muscle when it is
stretched beyond its normal limit. In PNF stretching when one stretched the muscle
to the end ROM in the first and third stage, this stretching sensation is perceived by
the GTO to be a dangerous stimulus so it forces the muscle stretched to relax after
the stimuli has been felt for around eight seconds. The GTO also comes into play in
the second stage in that when the muscle stretched is forced to contract the
immediate stretch afterwards is greater because the relaxation of the muscle is

Therefore, there is a trend in the number of species found in each stream type
based on the riparian habitat. As the amount of organic pollution increased, there
should have been a decrease in the species richness of the streams. Species richness
also has an effect on the processing of leaf material. Less species richness due to
organic pollution forces the litter breakdown to be dependent on microbial activity
rather than shredders (Masese et al. 2014). In addition, microbial breakdown of
leaf litter is accelerated by the presence of nutrients, which is high in agricultural
streams (Masese et al. 2014). Therefore, the species richness of the agricultural
stream should have been low and leaf processing would be controlled by bacteria.
Although the agricultural stream had the highest species richness, the relative
frequency of shredders was very low compared to the other functional feeding
groups shown in Figure 3. Likewise, due to the organic pollution present in urban
streams, it would be expected to have a low species richness and thus any leaf
material would be processed by microbes as well. Furthermore, the forest stream
should have had the highest species richness, which would in turn impact leaf
processing by having the shredders drive leaf litter breakdown rather than microbes.
The Family Biotic Index describes the water quality of a stream by averaging the
tolerance values of all the individuals that were sampled (Hilsenhoff 1988). Based on
the equation,
22. Drones Thesis Statement
Drones are now in much more parts of the world and are being discussed all about
all over the world. Some may think drones are bad and should not be used while
others think that they have a very positive effect. In this essay I will describe to you
all the different reasons why drones should be kept. Drones should be kept
commercially and militarily.
Drones are playing an increasingly important role in warfare around the world.
This was stated by Warren, Stephan. Drones save a ton of soldier s life when they
fight during combat. My interpretation is that every single soldier s life is a plus
into keeping the country safe. The more soldiers in a country the better it is for the
country to be kept safe. This statement refers back to my thesis ... Show more content

The number one reason drones should be kept because it saves a lot of people s lives
all over the world. Second, it gives a lot of people other jobs and new jobs and that
helps our growing population. Third, it gives Filmmakers a much bigger industry to
work with and it widens the field of recording. The Drones should be kept for a
number of reasons and the positives outweigh the negatives by a large amount. Every
single point that has been stated above has been scientifically proven and I stated my
interpretation. So these reasons are not only things that i personally think but are also
things that have been proven by science. So these reasons are significant enough to
keep drones running and to keep them in the
23. Free-Radical Chain Reaction Lab Report
Free radical chain reactions involve the formation of halides and alkyl halides by
reacting diatomic halogens with reactive hydrogens attached to hydrocarbons. In this
experiment, diatomic bromine was reacted with various arenes to produce
hydrobromic acid and alkyl halides. The mechanism behind this reaction can be
characterized by three distinct phases: initiation, propagation, and termination. During
the initiation step, bromine radicals are produced via thermal or photochemical
homolysis. These bromine radicals then react with hydrogens attached to a
hydrocarbon in the propagation step to produce hydrobromic acid and a carbon
radical. The chain reaction continues since the carbon radical formed can react with
another diatomic bromine molecule, producing a carbon bromine bond and
regenerating a bromine radical. The termination step ends the reaction by reacting
two bromine radicals with each other, lowering the concentration of highly reactive
bromine radicals in solution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when propane and diatomic bromine are reacted together, a 3:97 ratio
of primary alkyl halide to secondary alkyl halide is produced. In contrast, when
propane and diatomic chlorine are reacted together, a theoretical 3:1 ratio of primary
alkyl halide to secondary alkyl halide is produced; experimentally, the ratio is closer
to 45:55. Thus, it was determined that diatomic bromine was better suited to examine
the reaction rates of the various

South Korea has demonstrated great economic growth over recent decades,
developing from one of the poorer countries of Asia to a high tech industrialized
economy. Currently, with a GDP per capita of USD$33,200, South Korea boasts the

The Impact that Lenin had on Russia and the Russian People
Russia was an enormous empire and had over 55,650,000 Russians in it. The leader
of Russia from 1905 to 1917 was Tsar Nicholas II (emperor) who was ruler of
Russia. The Tsar was independent and had autocratic power, which meant that he
shared his power with no one, meaning Russia didn t have to vote. Before the Tsar
was in power the Russian army performed a war against Japan and lost because their

mainly supported these people because all the existing Governments would be

====================================================================
In 1905 there was a revolution, which failed, once the war ended things got really
bad in Russia because mutinies were happening in the army because they had no
equipment, food and training. Strikes broke out and around 250,000 people went
on strike because the peasants didn t get land, the soldiers wanted to lead there
normal lives again and get a job, also Social Revolutionaries wanted a Duma which
was a parliament. So the Tsar set up a Duma but didn t really listen to their
suggestions and if somebody said anything wrong then he dismissed the whole
parliament. So I don t really think it was real democracy, but this carried on for a
while so the Tsar survived the attempt of a revolution, which failed.

The particular case study in review was an incident involving a waste Mercury

issue that should be taken with immediate serious reactions. Anytime a hazardous
material is handled, moreover one that has been expended from its primary use
should come with the automatic question of how proper disposal must be conducted.
There is generally zero excuse for openly dumping a non natural substance, let alone a

BENIHANA SIMULATION REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
OVERVIEW:
BENIHANA INC, an American restaurant company was founded in 1964 in New
York City and has 116 Japanese cuisine restaurants. Benihana simulation is a
computer simulation of an operation management result based on concept of
Benihana restaurant in Tokyo designed by Harvard school. The outline of the
simulation is based on two seating position i.e. bar and the dining area. The target of
this restaurant based simulation is to boost utilization, nightly profit and throughput
time by using batching strategy, size of bar and cycle time and different advertising
scheme. Simulation consist of 6 challenges where only 1 to 3 factor can be changed
in challenges 1 to 5 whereas challenge 6 is a combination of strategies to gain the
maximum output i.e. nightly profit by using all possible factors from 5 previous
challenges.
I started simulation by testing all the possible outcomes from challenge 1 to 5 and
used the best scenario from one simulation to the other step by step and drew the
conclusion at the very end.
CHALLENGE 1:
The first challenge was to determine whether or not batching dining room customer
was beneficial. Batching means that the parties must reach a number of eight
before they are seated. Two scenarios from the simulation show that batching is a
better strategy that helped to increase profit. Utilization of the restaurant capacity
is largest while batching. We could place 8 people at single table rather than
placing group of 5 at one and 3 at another. The number of customers that can be
served at one time highly influences the profit. According to the simulation it is
more beneficial to use batching as average profit is $83.64 compared to average
profit of $282.29 when not batched. By using batching benihana restaurants are able
to eliminate bottleneck that occurs in the waiting area/bar. By doing so they are able
to see more customers in their restaurants which can be seen in the graphs to the
right. They lose fewer customers and more diners are served. Bottleneck primarily
refers to the resources with

In ancient Greece athletic activity in the ancient world fell into 2 categories:
competitive athletics in public religious festivals (victors won prizes and honored
with statues and poems) or sporting events in a gymnasium.
2. The two categories were brought about by different beliefs in how the Olympics
began:
a. According to Philostratos, an ancient Greek author and philosopher during this
time, the first contest was held during the festival at Olympia in 776 B.C. where
many competitive races were held. This was a race in which the athletes ran around
the circumference of the stadium.
b. The Games can be seen as a religious worship of the gods and heroes.
c. This idea that the Olympics were seen as worship just supports the belief that the
gods in fact began the Olympic Games. In one story, five brothers fought to protect
baby Zeus (King of the gods) by running in a race where the victor was crowned
with an olive branch crown thus beginning the Olympic Games. This story is closer
to what happened during the ancient Greek Games but there are many other stories
that exemplify the god s part in the Games.
3. The Olympic Games were seen as a status symbol if you were not part of higher
class you were not able to participate and win
a. Kind of like the Hunger Games book today where in Districts one, two and three
the tributes were to train for their whole life to win while others were just thrown in.

Question #3: Why are non human primates studied for how their behaviors related to
our own origins? What types of studies are conducted and have these studies changed
in recent years? Why or why not?
We study nonhuman primate behavior to help us better understand us as humans and
our behavior compared to nonhuman primates. Clearly there are differences in
behavior among different species of primates especially humans. Similar behaviors
may also have different causes. Current ideas are that the first primates appeared
more than 60 million years ago. Interestingly, the common ancestor of people and
African apes lived just around 5 8 million years prior; along these lines, for more than
50 million years, people and the African chimps have shared primate heritage. Shared
lineage is a noteworthy motivation behind why human and nonhuman primates have
numerous qualities in like manner the use of tools, relationships, and complex
correspondence frameworks. By finding out about nonhuman primates we came in to
take in more about ourselves. For instance, us humans walk upright, on two limbs we
are bipedal. Human and nonhuman primates likewise share physiological qualities.
For instance, the route in which the brains of rhesus monkeys and people are sorted
out is comparative. One mind range that has been examined widely is the visual
framework. Neuroanatomical investigations of the nonhuman primate mind

Chapter I: Theoretical Background 1. Newspaper headlines 1.1. What is newspaper
headline? Conventionally, it is believed that newspapers have more readers than
any other kind of written text. According to Van Dijk (1986), for most citizens,
news is perhaps the type of written discourse with which they are confronted most
frequently (p. 156). In the newspaper it is the headline that has the highest
readership. It summarizes the content of a story, and entices an audience into
reading the article. According to Ungerer (2000), a headline describes the essence
of a complicated news story in a few words. It informs quickly and accurately and
arouses the reader s curiosity (p. 48). Newspaper headlines are particularly important
for the way readers comprehend a news text, they are markers that monitor attention,
perception and the reading process (Van Dijk, 1988). According to Danuta R. (1998),
headline is a unique type of text. It has a range of functions that specifically dictate its
shape, content, and structure and it operates within a range of restrictions that limited
the freedom of the writer. In other words, headline should

43. The Characteristics Of Disney s Hercules And The Greek
Myths
First and foremost Disney s Hercules is based off Greek mythology but in a very
friendly so that the myth can be presented to a variety of different audiences in this
case kids which is the reason to why the myths and the characteristics of the
characters had to be modified so that it could be child friendly. Since the movie is
based on the Greek myth Hercules there will still be some similarities between this
movie and the movie. However, there will be a lot of differences just because it is
adjusted so that it will be able to meet the Disney criteria meaning it can be
presented to children. One way Disney tends to adapt and or change the myth a bit
is when Hercules sends off his two minions named Pain and Panic to baby Hercules as

Hercules is concerned that he doesn t seem to be like the other people just didn t

baby at the side of a cliff wearing a necklace displaying a symbol of Zeus on it.
Since Hercules wanted to find out where he really belongs and can find a place
where he will really be able to fit in, he decides to go to the temple of Zeus to ask
his father if he would be able to return to Olympus. Zeus then addresses Hercules
that he must prove himself a true hero in order to go back to Mount Olympus and
become a god. Providing him with the guidance to look for a professional trainer
named Phil a man who trained a variety of different heroes. This is considered
based on the Hercules myth because in the myth Hercules is often reckless with
his strength and ends up doing terrible things. Hera who is a jealous wife gives
Hercules guilt which had caused him to isolate himself, suffering and
overwhelmed with a lot of guilt. Hercules goes to Oracle where he is told that he
will have to complete 12 labors for King Eurystheus in order to be free of all the
suffering and guilt he had been experiencing along with an added bonus of him
becoming immortal. The movie had taken the idea of Hercules seeking the guidance
he needed and having tasks to help him become immortal. Finally, when Disney had
scenes with Phil training Hercules they had changed the myth. After Phil had agreed

44. Power In The Count Of Monte Cristo
What is considered power? How important is power? It writes history and causes
conflicts. Money, wealth, success, and titles do not classify power, as opposed to
common misconceptions. A true display of power requires control, influence,
respect, and ability. In Alexander Dumas The Count of Monte Cristo, the main
character, Edmond Dantes, is an excellent portrayal of these all aspects. Napoleon,
depicted in Russia 1812, written by Victor Hugo, is known throughout the world as a
dominant revolutionary war general and strikes as an image of respect. Aksenof, the
unfortunate character in Leo Tolstoy s The Long Exile, exhibits an ascension to
control, despite his series of disastrous events, when he becomes the dominator of his
enemy. These characters from literature are clear examples... Show more content on

In The Long Exile, Aksenof spares Makar, the man who had framed him for
murder, from being flogged to death. This act of kindness guilt trips Makar into
begging forgiveness for his acts. Ivan Dmitritch, forgive me! When they flogged
me with the knout, it was easier to bear than it is now to look at you... And you
had pity on me after all this... you did not tell on me... Forgive me for Christ s
sake! Forgive me, though I am a cursed villain! And the man began to sob (Tolstoy
811). Aksenof, whose destiny had once been sentenced by Makar, now dominated
Makar s life. Not through force and revenge, but pity and forgiveness, Aksenof had
successfully obtained control over his enemy. In The Count of Monte Cristo, the
count s final act of vengeance reveals his immense power and control. Stand up,
said the count. Your life will be spared. Your two accomplices weren t so lucky: one
of them is insane and the other is dead! (Dumas 434). Danglars is merely another
string for the count to pull, and his fate demonstrates the count s absolute power and
dominion over his
45. The Nature Of Human Behavior
By nature, we are all amateur psychologists, constantly trying to, through the informal
study of ourselves and others, make inferences and predictions about other s
behaviour. This in turn has led to the creation of many common sense notions, or
cultural beliefs about the nature of human behaviour that, while often espoused as
factual and true, tend to hold up poorly when faced with legitimate scientific
scrutiny, with an example being the belief that individuals always work harder in a
group than on their own. Since, while it is undeniable that, by nature, we are social
rather than solitary animals and that working in groups has had many advantages to
the evolution of our species by allowing us to, for example, increase our safety in...

Likewise, they tend to end up taking credit for the other s work, thus creating tension
that negatively affects the group as a whole (Tomson Pieterse, 2010, p. 2).
Moreover, outside of social loafing, group performance can also be negatively
impacted by groupthink. Concerning group performance as a whole, groupthink is
defined in Psychology: Evaluating connections, as a phenomenon that happens
when the thinking of the group takes over, so much so that group members forgo
logic or critical analysis in the service of reaching a decision (Fiest et al., 2016, p.
536 537). Likewise, it is discussed by Irving Janis (1971) in Groupthink, an article
published in Psychology Today magazine, who was the first to propose its
existence as a phenomena. Basing his theory on the thorough analysis of historical
examples of poor decision such as the Bay of Pigs invasion, Janis concluded that
groupthink arises when the members of decision making groups become motivated
to avoid being too harsh in their judgments of their leaders or their colleagues ideas
and avoid being critical of either their own or other s thinking (Janis, 1971, p. 84).
This in turn leads to negative consequences for the group, such as the failure to
consider other, more viable
46. The Effects Of Human Population On The Environment
Every year the human population on Earth increases by approximately 1.12%, or 80
million, according to the United States Census Bureau. This drastic increase in
population has created a big strain on the environments around us. As the population
increases, so does the amount of fossil fuel consumption, greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere, deforestation, and other detrimental impacts on the environment. This,
in turn, causes the extinctionof at least 10,000 species per million per year and
pushes countless others to the brink ( How Many Species Are We Losing? ). It is
important to maintain Earth s biodiversity, the variety and abundance of organisms
and their habitats, to keep humans healthy and happy. The ecosystem is very
delicate, and the more species disappear, the more the entire ecosystems become
vulnerable and would eventually fall apart as the links in the food chains become
broken ( Endangered Animals of the World ). The ecosystems around the world,
however, provide humans with a wide range of food, medicine, and other industrial
products. For example, honey bees are responsible for 80% of pollination
worldwide. That means that if honey bees were to go extinct, there would be a
drastic decrease in agriculture yield and the amount of food available for
consumption, resulting in a massive food shortage worldwide. It would also result in
a sharp decline in the diversity of plant species which would have other implications.
To stop the further extinction of other

The impact of Network on the college student.
With the advent of the era of information, network in the lives of college students
plays a very important role, the network brings us a lot of convenienceпјЊHowever,
its negative effects become more and more cause our attention. To further investigate
the influence of network for college students, I adopt the method of the questionnaire
survey and online search. (my opinion)
According to a survey (Basic situation investigation), some students can effectively
control the Internet time and the main purpose is to collect learning materials online.
There is a question (the question three is: What is the purpose of you access the
Internet? A: Check study material B: chat with friend, C: watch the news D: listen to
music or watch movies, D: others ) Forty five percent of the students chose to listen
to music and watching moviesпјЊThirty four percent of students chose to chat
onlineпјЊWhile only 15% of the students chose to find information related to the
learning and watching the news, the remaining 6% of the students chose the other.
There is no denying that, network openness and convenience, the diversity of content
and universality, for college students provide a broad space for learning, broaden the
students learning approach, help to widen the vision of the students and promote

48. Reasons On The Assassination Of Franz Ferdinand
On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Princip was
motivated by his hatred of the Archduke and his political views. However, he did
not know that his actions would spark a conflict that would quickly become one of
the bloodiest wars in human history. However, Franz Ferdinand was not perfect, as
he had opposed Serbia s wishes of independence from Austria as well as called
Serbs and Hungarians pigs , thieves as well as many other degrading names.
Despite the fact that he dehumanized Serbs and Hungarians, Franz Ferdinand s
assassination was not justified because he had a family, tensions were already
high in Europe, and his death led to World War One. Franz Ferdinand had two very
different sides to his personality. In the public eye, he was a short tempered
Archduke. In the private eye, however, he was a devoted family man. Franz
Ferdinand married Sophie Chotek in 1900 despite the fact that his uncle, Emperor
Franz Josef of Austria Hungary, opposed it. They later went on to have three
children. Franz Ferdinand was regarded as a happy husband and a devoted father in
his private life, which was a side of him that was not shown in the public eye.
Consequently, Gavrilo Principonly saw Ferdinand as an unhinged leader of Austria
Hungary, and was partly motivated by this to take his life. Due to the composition of
alliances in Europe, the conflict between Serbia and Austria Hungary got many other
countries involved. Years before Franz Ferdinand

20,000 leagues under the sea
20,000 leagues under the sea , by Jules Verne, is about how Professor aronnax goes
on a sea journey to find a giant sea monster. In their journey Professor Aronnax and
his friends find that the sea monster is actually a giant steel submarine. Professor
Aronnax and his friends are held hostage by Captain Nemo in the Nautilus. Nemo
decides to let them explore the depths of the sea with him, and his crew. Aronnax
discovers Nemo is crazy, and finds a way to escape, but once the escape, the Nautilus
is unseen. The theme of 20,00 leagues under the sea is, exploration is good, but it has
downsides. The theme is developed through the setting, the conflicts, and the
resolution.
The setting is a big part in developing the theme. The setting is the depths of the
ocean in a huge submarine that you have to stay in the rest of your life. In the text
it says, {Nemo says,} You will remain on board my ship forever as free men. You
will have the freedom to walk about , to look, and even examine everything that
goes on here. You may do all this since you will never have the chance to tell what
you have seen to another living soul. {Professor Aronnax said,} But Monsieur, I
cried, you can t possibly expect us to give up our families , our friends, or our
country forever (50). This helps develop the theme because, It shows that the setting
(the Nautilus) Is helping them explore the ocean,

Also, they have a negative effect on morale of employees leading to poor
performance. The impact of this article is that it nurtures the leaders understanding of
concepts associated with people skills, enhancing their relationships with their
subordinates/followers, improving the culture in an organization; leading to
productivity, cost saving, efficiency and increment in revenue. Upon reading this
paper, leaders get a results driven people skills model that helps them eliminate
potential biases, increase social intelligence and improve interpersonal skills (Norris,
2009).
Over 50% of leaders and managers fail. There are many factors leading to these
failures, with poor working relationships and communication failures being
considered significant contributors (Ivey, 1995; Vugt, Hogan, Kaiser, 2008). Duffy
and Ferrier attribute delegation and procedural justice to positive outcomes in
employees and abusive supervision and monitoring to negative outcomes in
employee performance. According to them, to achieve the former and eliminate the
later, leaders need to strive to create a culture that is fair, ethical and equitable in
order for employees to be respectful and have improved attitudes (Duffy and Ferrier,
2003). This article highlights how leaders can achieve all these. Therefore, another
impact of the article is that it helps leaders and managers to reduce
53. Genetic Defects in Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane...
Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to explain what Cystic Fibrosis is and also to
explain what the causes of Cystic Fibrosis are. Cystic Fibrosis is caused by a
mutation in a gene called Cystic
Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR). Cystic Fibrosis is known
as one of the most common life shortening disease. More that 1,000 mutations in the
CFTR gene have been found in people with Cystic Fibrosis. Most of these mutations
change single protein amino acids in the CFTR protein and it deletes a small amount
of DNA from the CFTR gene. I am going to explain what happens when the CFTR
proteins is functioning normally and when it is diseased.

Ion channels are pore forming proteins which allow the passage of ions that are
charged into and out of the cell down the electrochemical gradient [4].
Electrochemical gradient is a change in an ion that represents a type of potential
energy that accounts for the both concentration and the membrane potential [1]. The
channel transports particles called chloride ions. Chloride ions are formed when the
element chlorine picks up one electron to form an ion. Chlorides ions help keep the
movement of water in tissues and maintain the fluidity of mucus and other secretions
[3].

[5]
When the protein is diseased, that causes people with Cystic Fibrosis to have
digestive problems. The mucus can block the ducts of the pancreas, and that prevents
the enzymes from reaching the intestines to help digest food [6]. People with Cystic
Fibrosis have an increased risk of lung infection and that could result in respiratory
failure. Also males with Cystic Fibrosis could get

In our Milky Way galaxy, there are over a hundred billion stars, and within the
universe there are billions of galaxies (Classifying Stars). Astronomers have always
come up with different techniques to make their jobs easier. One important technique
in, not only astronomy but science itself, is trying to classify something into groups
to find a certain pattern. Since there are so many stars in a single galaxy,
astronomers must find methods for organization. Stars are not all the same, they vary
in size, temperature, and brightness. To keep track of all these different
characteristics, astronomers had to come up with a diagram. The Hertzsprung
Russell diagram is one of the most useful plots for stellar astronomy (Classifying
Stars). The diagram... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
