1. Espository Essay
Crafting an expository essay can prove to be a challenging endeavor, demanding a careful
balance between informative content and engaging prose. First and foremost, one must grasp the
essence of the expository genre, which necessitates a comprehensive exploration of a specific
topic, backed by well-researched facts and devoid of personal biases or opinions. The challenge
lies in presenting information in a clear, coherent manner that not only educates but also
captivates the reader's attention.
Moreover, the process involves extensive research to gather credible sources and data, ensuring
the essay is not only informative but also reliable. Juggling the art of conveying complex ideas in
a straightforward manner can be daunting, as it requires a keen awareness of the target
audience's understanding and a commitment to simplifying intricate concepts.
Structuring the essay is another hurdle, demanding a meticulous arrangement of ideas, evidence,
and transitions. Crafting a compelling introduction that hooks the reader, followed by a series of
well-organized body paragraphs, and concluding with a strong summary without introducing
new information is a formidable task.
The mastery of language is also crucial; finding the right balance between clarity and eloquence
can be a tightrope walk. Additionally, maintaining an unbiased tone throughout the essay
challenges the writer to remain objective, presenting information without personal influence.
In conclusion, writing an expository essay is an intricate process that demands a combination of
research, organization, and a command of language. It is an art that requires dedication and skill
to present information in a way that educates, engages, and leaves a lasting impact on the reader.
For those seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of essay writing, various resources are
available. Similar essays and a plethora of writing services can be explored, offering support to
individuals striving to master the art of expository writing. Platforms like HelpWriting.net can
be valuable allies in the quest for well-crafted, informative essays.

3. History of Civil Aviation
Civil aviation came about after World War one when pioneers explored new uses
for aircraft, before that aircraft were only used for war purposes. In 1908 the
British army developed aircraft, a few years before in 1904 J. E. Cooper, from the
British war office, visited the Wright Brothers. His aim was to bring back
information and skills on aircraft. This did not happen because the Wright brothers
asked for $100,000 for the method of aircraft and a further $100,000 for the formulae
and theoretical knowledge. The war office was unwilling to pay this amount.
Later, during the First World War, the aeroplane matured rapidly. Aeroplanes had to
stand up to the war time maintenance. Although the Bi planes of 1918 resembled pre
war types they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following D.H.4A and D.H.16 de Havilland designed a purely civil D.H.18, with a
450hp Napier Lion engine and eight seats. This came about in 1920, used by
Aircraft Transport and Instone. Improved development brought about the Lion
powered eight passenger D.H.34 which had its first flight on March 26th, 1922 then
went into service with Daimler Airway, just a week later, on April 2nd. This
aeroplane type was also used by Instone and one was even exported to Russia.
Handley Page designed and built the W.8, based on its own 0/400 series, which
had two Eagle engines. The W.8 compared to the 0/400, had reduced wing span,
better passenger accommodation and a single fin and rudder in place of the 0/400s
box like structure. The W.8 had its first flight on 4th December 1919 and had
limited service with Handley Page Transport. It was followed by three 12/14 seat
Eagle powered W.8bs.
The aeroplane to become the best known through out all pioneering days or aircraft
manufacturer was the Vickers Vimy Commercial, named City of London . It was in
turn a modified Vimy bomber, the aircraft that was first to make a non stop
transatlantic flight and England Australia flight. The City of London airplanes
difference was that it incorporated a new fuselage having seats for up to ten paying
customers.
It soon proved that for an air route to be successful it would
4. College Football Research Paper
The game can be played on either natural or artificial surfaces, the surface must be
green and rectangular in shape. The two long sides of the rectangle are called
touch lines and the two shorter sides are called goal lines. The field is divided in
half by the halfway line. One 11 man team has possession of the football. It is called
the offense and it tries to advance the ball down the field by running with the ball
or throwing it and score points by crossing the goal line and getting into an area
called the end zone. The other team (also with 11 players) is called the defense.
It tries to stop the offensive team and make it give up possession of the ball. If the
team with the ball does score or is forced to give up possession, the offensive and
defensive teams switch roles (the offensive team goes on defense and the defensive
team goes on offense). And so on, back and forth, until all four quarters of the game
have been played. The game is played in 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These are many and varied, broadly speaking it is an offence to use excessive force
while playing the game either deliberately or undeliberately or to handle the ball
(unless you are a goal keeper). The referee may show the yellow card to caution
players for less serious offences and the red card for more serious offences resulting
in the player being sent off. Two yellow cards are equivalent to one red card. Free
kicks are given by the referee for fouls and misconduct. A free kick can either be
direct or indirect. A goal can be scored directly from a direct free kick. A goal can
only be scored from an indirect free kick if it touches at least one other player first.
The free kick must be taken from a stationary position with that position varying
depending on whether the free kick was given inside or outside the goal area and

5. Freedom And Symbolism In Zeena, By Ethan Wharton
In addition, this smell of geranium, that the cat made evident to Ethan, is used
throughout the novel to represent Zeena s presence which is why he dragged himself
wearily to his feet (Wharton 71) as a reaction to the smell.
Concerning the aspects of both freedom and isolation, Wharton made the decision
to choose birds and a domestic cat for a specific reason. According to Setting and
Symbolism , References to trees, birds, and mice, therefore, are all image patterns
connecting Mattie, and Ethan s love for her, with the natural freedom of the
outdoors. In contrast, and a natural enemy to both birds and mice, is Zeena s
domestic cat. (Springer 8). So, as you can see, these two animals were chosen to
show that Zeena will always have the upperhand on Mattie and Ethan can t do
anything to stop it. In nature, you can t stop an animal from killing another because
that is how they survive and that is life. In a similar scenario, Ethan has no control
on what Zeena does because she has appropriated the role as the head of the
household and, essentially, controls Mattie s every move. Regarding this facet of
isolation versus freedom, the reader can see how Ethan psychologically has
associated Mattie with the things he desires to have and Zeena with the things he
desires to escape. Following this concept, Wharton uses the environment to express
Ethan s psychological state of mind. The story takes place in an isolated town covered
in snow which becomes one of the main contributors to Ethan s misery. In the novel,
Wharton uses winter as the key to Ethan s isolation,
After the funeral, when he saw her preparing to go away, he was seized with an
unreasoning dread of being left alone on the farm; and before he knew what he was
doing he had asked her to stay there with him. He had often thought since that it
would not have happened if his mother had died in spring instead of winter. (Wharton
41).
This quote brings up the idea of how the season of winter is what isolated him to a
point where people question that ... he s been in Starkfield too many winters. Most
of the smart ones get away. (Wharton 5). As the novel progresses, this brutal climate
also develop characteristics, warm and happy or cold and miserable,

inappropriate to others. But who ultimately gets to decide what is considered vulgar
and what is not? Who decides who hears what in the music industry? The RIAA is
responsible for applying the Parental Advisory stamp on every album that is released
in the United States. The FCC is responsible for making sure that no vulgarities or
controversial comments are aired on radio or television. But why is some content
edited and other content not? I will try and explain these questions in our article.
What decides whether or not the Parental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6) Any depiction of sex, drug abuse, or violence

We should also keep in mind that having the Parental Advisory label on an album is
not the Kiss of Death. Anyone of any age can still purchase the music, they just need
to be aware of the content that is on it, and that it may offend them. It is reported
that most record stores inventory only carries less than half of one percent of albums
that sport the Parental Advisory sticker. Also, extensive research done on a young
group of teenagers shows that the sticker does not influence them to buy the album
more. They are more attracted to music and rhythms than they are to the lyrics.
(Rosen, H October 25 2004)
So what does the FCC do? The FCC is responsible for making sure that the bad
content is edited out of every song that hits the radio or television. The Parental
Advisory sticker does not mean the content has to be erased, just that it is there and
you need to be aware of it. But when that song is played on radio or television, it
needs to be edited out. They will not disrupt the flow of the song, but when that
offensive lyric comes up, it needs to be blanked out. This also includes music videos
and their visual content. There can not be offensive images. Eminem is an example
of an artist who is constantly pushing the limits of both the FCC and the RIAA.

Abstract
In a story, the particular way a character uses language sheds light on her
understanding of herself and the world around her because language is the vessel for
meaning making and the construction of reality. In literature, stylistics (Simpson
2004, Jeffries 2010) provides the tools for an analysis of language by investigating
where the literary effects stem from. One of the tools is transitivity (Halliday 1985,

From the beginning of the story the reader comes to know Esther as a perceptive
woman who is strongly aware of the chasm between her fifteen years of straight A s

her. This quality is reflected in her language, which is one of the most prominent
features of the novel itself. The protagonist s ambivalence towards her role models,
her dissatisfaction with herself, and her desire to be recognized as a mature, talented
individual can be inferred from her language throughout the course of the

System
5. Conclusion
It is well understood that DNA is useful in the criminal justice system, whether it is
rape and murder case to prove paternity for the sake of civil cases or the identity of
the missing person. The value and reliability of DNA is manifested in science and
justice because DNA took part to help and facilitate the criminal proceedings.
However, the DNA used also the risk of reliability when it is created by an act of
false police collected evidence from the crime scene. The police officer must protect
and recognize the crime scene.
The DNA evidence is evidence that has weight and importance. Meanwhile, it is
possible to question it as well. The judge has a duty to weigh the DNA evidence by

9. The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo
The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine
University 23 April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking,
fluid feeding behavior. The purpose of this experiment was to get a better
understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding behavior; more specifically, the study was
designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo s
thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the
time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment
yielded results that help explain whether or not there was a connection between the
amount of blood available to Hirudo for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to
attach to the blood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Hirudo, more commonly known as leeches,
are interesting creatures with a very distinctive feeding behavior. In society, they
are primarily known as blood suckers, but not much else is known about their
feeding behavior. In nature, Hirudo utilizes its abilities to detect and feed on blood
for efficient uses of energy (Sawyer, 1986). These unique behaviors caught my
interest and made me question them. This eventually led to the question: how do
different volumes of blood affect Hirudo s thirst? Hirudo are segmented worms
that can grow up to 20cm. long when fully mature and range from green to brown
in color. Hirudo have two suckers, one on each end called the anterior and
posterior. They are predacious animals and mostly fluid feeders. Some are true
blood suckers, attaching themselves to a host during feeding periods. They feed
mostly on turtles, fishes, dolphins, and other mammals (Elliot, 1986). Hirudo live in
many different places all over the world. Their habitats even stretch across Europe
and Asia. The most preferred habitat for this species is muddy freshwater and
ditches with a lot of weeds (i.e. lakes, ponds, streams, and marshes). Hirudo prefer
water that is eutrophic, meaning it is high in nutrients (Fields, 1991). In various
countries around the world, Hirudo are used for medical purposes. Leeches have been
used for treatment for illnesses such as benign tumors,

It happens many times. A person finds the car of their dreams. They drive it around
for a few weeks when it happens. The car will not start, it makes a funny noise, or
the breaks just will not do anything while stepping onto the pedal. Does the person
have to pay for the repairs all by themselves? And if so, what happens when the
exact same problem happens more than 3 times? It is just not fair to pay all this
money on your brand new affordable car. But, one should not worry. There is a
solution to all these annoying questions one just does not know how to answer. This
is how the Magnuson Moss warranty act comes into this situation. The lemon lawis a

It involves more serious things, which can not be repaired within 3 repairs.
Autopedia explained that for any serious safety defect, such as brakes or steering,
the manufacturer has one attempt. If it is a safety but not serious, they have 2
attempts. And for any other defect, they usually receive 3 or 4 chances to repair.
The repairs may not be a result of abuse, neglect or unauthorized modifications or
alterations. The cases must be given to the manufacturer, and they must have
responded to your complaint and rendered a decision within 40 days. The terms
apply within the express warranty or the first year of ownership from date of
delivery, which ever comes first. Another way also is within the first 12 24 months or
24,000 miles. If miles have been put on, the manufacturer may decide to use
reduction. In order to do this, they use the following equation:
Miles at time of refund x the purchase price
100,000
This equation was found on both the Cartalk and the Autopedia sites. Another point
that a consumer may argue, is about the miles put on in between the repairs.
However, the majority of times, it does not work. In events of strike, war or natural
disaster that prevent repairs, lemon laws will not help a person with any car
11. Individualism In The Minister s Black Veil
Ralph Waldo Emerson voices his beliefs on the importance of individualism through
the quote: To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something
else is the greatest accomplishment. This quote is said with the underlying purpose of
decreasing the pressures to adapt to societal norms, while simultaneously encouraging
the development of a unique identity. Of course, this should be the ideal mindset, but
this concept does more damage to the individual, who is trying to stand out, than can
be anticipated. Overall, the idea of this notion is admirable, but it does not take into
account the obstacles that will overcomplicate the life of the said individual. Because
of this, the position presented in the above quote is neither... Show more content on

this individualism of hers is her separation from the rest of the community both
physically and physiologically. Because of her sin, which is swed onto her breast,
she is rejected by the Puritan Society, forced to take up a living in an isolated

13. An Analysis Of Kathryn Schulz s Writing, An Essay,...
Kathryn Schulz is an excellent writer who wrote an essay, Evidence, regarding her
ways of thinking and how different types of evidence prove said different ways of
thinking. We rely on it [...] to advance our understanding of the world (Schulz,
362). She explains in great detail throughout the entire piece the importance of
evidence in everyday life. The evidence she is explaining is the proof of why
people think how they think or why they do what they do. We care about what is
probable. We determine what is probable based on our prior experience of the world
(Schulz, 366).
The two ways of thinking that Schulz explains in her essay are unmodified assertions
and self subversive thinking. She compares the user of unmodified assertions to a
confident bulldozer. Unmodified assertions include words like, always, never and
best/worst, while self subversive thinking includes types of words such as but; those
that show a change in thinking. Schulz ___thesis___? Although both types of
thinking are very important, generally people take evidence in both ways; people
typically apply a mix of the two to the ways they think and speak. ? [...] evidence is
the engine that drives the entire miraculous machinery of human cognition (Schulz,

One of the most important parts of thinking is inductive reasoning, which is referred
to in the essay multiple times. Schulz states that inductive reasoning is something that

redundant applications such as CRM systems were created. This was a global issue
as well as a localized issue. The Cisco philosophy regarding IT was simple: As long

16. A Critical Examination Of The Inter Relationship Between...
A critical examination of the inter relationship between ethnicity and nationalism in
Eritrea Introduction The notions of ethnicity and nationalism have been used to
discuss the formation of what is so called a nation state. Many anthropologists (e.g.
Eriksen, 1993) assert that ethnicity is a multifaceted product of ever changing social
relations and organisation. In a similar way, Eriksen (1993) discusses nationalism as a
social cohesion defined by its relationship to the state. Echoing further dichotomy to
the anthropologists interpretation, Brubaker (2004) also affirms the presence of
normative ambivalence and conceptual ambiguity in the study of ethnicity and
nationalism. What such debates suggest is therefore neither the definitions nor the
relationship between ethnicity and nationalism has been straightforward. From an
anthropological point of view, loyal individuals who share symbols, history and
found a common expression among themselves claim an imagined concept of civic
nationhood (Eriksen, 1993). On the other hand, a different form of nationalism can be
traced from vertical relationship between ethnicities competing for power (ibid.).
Nonetheless, nationalism exists as an abstract conception that involves exclusion and
inclusion of inevitably changing identities (Eriksen, 1993; Smith, 1994 and Brubaker,
2004). Despite the above controversies, anthropological analyses of ethnicity and
nationalism play a crucial role in mediating the different

While working at the train station Edison saved a toddler s life and the father
awarded him by teaching Thomas the skills to work a telegraph. This would be
important for Thomas later in life as telegraphy would be something that he would
be doing as a career for a certain part of his life. At the time of the American Civil
War, Edison worked across the country as a telegrapher. However due to his scarlet
fever as a child he began to develop hearing problems and due to the important use of
hearing signals for telegraphy, telegraphy became difficult for Thomas. Thomas later
left telegraphy in 1869 and moved on to just working on inventions. In 1871, Edison
lost his mother, and later he married his first wife Mary Stillwell. Unfortunately for
Thomas he soon began to have financial troubles and met problems due to the
situation. Thomas s father came to help his son, and thanks to Thomas s father help,
they built Thomas s iconic laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Thomas invented
the Carbon Transmitter in 1877, a device which improved the transmission in the
telephone. Thanks to his past work and skills on the telegraph, Thomas invented the
phonograph, a device which could record sound and reproduce that same sound.
Through these inventions Thomas was given the name The Wizard of Menlo Park by
the press. Then came his most famous invention the incandescent lightbulb. Unlike
what some people think, Thomas Edison did not invent the lightbulb, he did however

Write a Critical Appreciation of the passage (Rebecca (1936), by Daphne du
Maurier), relating your discussion to your reading of the gothic
The gothic extract, Rebecca (1936), by Daphne du Maurier is an excellent and
insightful passage because of how it uses the key gothic concepts like fear, foreboding
and dark setting, but also exhibits a romanticism in such darkness. This first person
narrative, recalling the events of a dream, describes the protagonists visit to the
seemingly gloomy and unpleasant Manderley. The extract heavily uses gothic
concepts such as horror, the sublime, the uncanny, the supernaturaland obscurity to
induce a foreboding fear of Manderley. The unnamed protagonist has a deep
connection with Manderley, romantic and threatening in its nature. Through the use
of typical gothic themes and romanticism, Du Maurier creates a complex novel
highlighting the fears and attachments of the individual towards a setting.
At the beginning of the passage, the audience is told that this passage was just a
dream. This transitions to the opening paragraph describing the protagonists entrance
past the gates to Manderley, and in a supernatural way surpassing her dilemma. As
the protagonist makes their way to Manderly, we see how the elements wild unkept
powers of nature, fuelled by the supernatural, have taken back the path to manderly,
suggesting more sinister powers have been conceived in the dark nebulous setting of
manderly. Trees encroaching the road, dark and

Alfred Thayer Mahan s seminal work, The Influence of Sea Power upon History,
1660 1783, published in 1891, is an influential work of military theory. Although
he is a revered military theorist, Mahan was criticized for not being a systematic.
For example, he failed to consider social and cultural conditions in the rise of sea
power; the rise of the English middle class, American agrarian discontent, and the
rise of Russia. He also neglected to properly define the term sea power, of which he
claimed to have invented. Even so, two main interpretations of sea power do start to
emerge. Firstly, the command of the sea through naval superiority and second, that
combination of maritime commerce, overseas possessions, and privileged access to
foreign markets that produces national wealth and greatness. Mahan also theorized
that a naval fleet should never be divided and that victory at sea is only possible by
fleet concentration, his most important principle in naval warfare.
During the time of Mahan s publishing, the United States was beginning to change its
views on warfare. After the Civil War, US militaryleaders had more time to devote to

another. When certain parts of the body or certain organs of the body stop working
properly, there are reasons why this may happen, which include how we may treat
our body or just if there s a problem going on that we may or may not have control

Brain death is a little bit different from cardiac death (American Heart Association).
With brain death, this seems to be a loss of function of the brain that tends to be
irreversible in some cases for people. This loss of function also includes the
brainstem of a person. Brain death is now defined as one being in a coma with no
responsiveness and movement do to receptors of the body which also includes
possibly breathing. If one is considered brain dead, then there will also be no
reflexes of the brain stem which connects the brain to the spinal cord for electrical
signals to be sent throughout the body. Many times, ones death for being brain
dead can be caused from a massive injury to the brain versus for cardiac arrest is a
death that just comes with no warning. With our heart and brain being two vital
organs, damage to both causes to opposite issues for people with one being able to
be reversed and the other being irreversible, depending upon damage and how long
this damaged has occurred. Most times with a person being in a coma or brain
dead there is no reversible cause, but with time there could be some change within
a person. With cardiac arrest, a defibrillator can quickly change one being dead to one
being back alive once the heart is revived, but could still have some complications

grow companies size and profitability, but the acquisition is restricted by law. For
example, French law requires that one company should report its purchase action

other ways to circumvent the law, it may face lawsuit issues later on. Conclusion:
Overall, the global luxury goods industry still has high potential to growth
sustainably in the future. Since the market of this industry is worldwide,
companies revenues will not largely affected by a single country or region. The
important thing is to keep the balance of expansion between different countries.

28. Freudian Approach In Literature
2.2 Freud s main issues Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of Freudian theory is
the predominance of the unconscious. According to Freud the human mind is like an
iceberg. It is frequently hidden in the unconscious . He further supposed that the
conscious level of the mind was like to the tip of the iceberg which could be seen,
but the unconscious was mysterious and was hidden. According to Freud the greater
part of what one experiences in her/ his life, the underlying sensations, beliefs,
feelings, and impulses are not available to one at a conscious level. He believed that
most of what drives us is buried in our unconscious. Freud makes a distinction
between the levels of conscious and unconscious mental action :

according to moral customs of parents and culture. It is, as Freud says in The
Anatomy of the Mental Personality, the representative of all moral restrictions, the
advocate of the impulse toward perfection, in short it is as much as we have been
able to apprehend psycho logically of what people call the higher things in human life
(95).
2.3 The importance of Freudian approach in literature There are certain
psychoanalytic concepts expressed by Sigmund Freud that can be applied to interpret
literary texts. literary texts, like dreams, articulate the secret unconscious desires
and concerns of the author, that a literary work is a expression of the author s own
neuroses. One may psychoanalyze a particular character within a literary work, but it
is usually assumed that all such characters are outcrops of the author s psyche. The
interesting side of this approach is that it confirms the importance of literature, as it
is built on a literary key for the making out. Lois Tyson points out, aspects of
psychoanalysis have become so embedded in our culture that terms such as sibling
rivalry, inferiority complexes, and defense mechanisms are in such common use that
most of us feel we know what they mean without ever having heard them defined.

29. Indus Valley Polytheism
The early river valley civilizations are different and similar in many ways. The one
and
big similarity of Sumer, Egypt, and the Indus Valley would have is that they were all
worshipping more than one god as of which we call it polytheism. First off, since
Egypt,
Sumer, and the Indus Valley were all polytheistic in their own ways, those places also
had
empires. This shows the thing about Egypt, Sumer, and the Indus Valley is that they
can be
similar in things that they do but except they can do their own ways differently than
the others, as
an example, since Egypt has their slaves as to also have jobs as warriors, then it
would be

First off, we definitely know
that Egypt is a country(or a region) in northeastern Egypt. Second, to combine, we
already know
that Egypt has more than 2,000 temples and each temple, there is a god for each
Egyptian to
worship. Third and finally, Egypt has developed something interesting called
hieroglyphics,
which is to, to make it real short and interesting, worshipping all types of different

idols. Since we are done with Egypt, we move on to the Indus Valley civilization. As
we said
Egypt, Sumer and the Indus Valley were different in many ways, it can still relate to
the other
two civilizations in many ways. First, The Indus Valley can be located in about 4
countries of

The second and final thing about the Indus Valley is that they were the first ever

32. The Many Forms of English
In America we have many immigrants from other countries that come over to
America speaking only the language that is known to them. In Mothers Tongue by
Amy Tan, she talks about the many kinds of English that she uses to speak with
her mother, husband, and people outside her home. Most immigrant children end
up learning their parents language, English, and the broken, yet passing English
that their parents use. This isn t just exclusive to immigrant homes; many
Americans have different forms of English that they use daily. We have the often
informal, laidback English we speak with our families, the English we speak to our
friends with, which tends to be more slang filled, and the more formal type of
English we speak to our colleagues and bosses with. Why do we have these many
variants of English and why do we use them, and is one better than the other? In a
bilingual home the child is usually the first person to learn English in the home. This
usually leads to the parents using the child as a translator or in Amy Tan s story her
mother uses her because of the fact that Amy can speak better English than her, My
mother has long realized the limitations of her English. When I was fifteen, she used
to have me call people on the phone and pretend I was she. (Tan 656). During this
time the parents learn their own broken form of English that they can use to
communicate with either their children or other people. This leads to the other form
of English that Amy Tan
33. A Day Is A Special Holiday For Those Who ve Lost A Soldier
Memorial Day is a special holiday for those who ve lost a loved one in military
service. For me, the holiday is two fold. Yes, I remember the passing of my military
dad, , but it s also the day I remember all the best things about my father. It s when I
celebrate Father s Day.
My father was always proud to be a soldier. Sure, he would grumble about Army
politics or how the service caused him to have bad knees and feet. Yet. he was good
at being a solider. This was ironic because he did not choose to join the Army on his
own.
He, like many others, was part of the Vietnam draft. My father had no intentions of
being a military man. He was going to go to a local college and play football. That
dream was cut short when he received his draft letter right before graduation
football dreams would have to wait. After the war ended and he satisfied his
minimal service requirements, he did not leave. He re enlisted and went on to
serve 20 years in the Army. He retired before he was 40. It would seem that with a
full military career and generous retirement package under his belt, he would relax
and move on. This was not the case, he had a hard time relaxing into civilian life.
My dad had a rough childhood. He grew up poor in a little town in Eastern
Kentucky with no father figure. Sure, he showed promise and talent in playing
football at the local college, but academics was not on his horizon. Whether he
realized it or not at the time, the Army was not only an escape from his
34. Colleges Use Of Social Media
Social media is a way people can share their lives with each other by just the click
of a button. This allows people to access an unlimited amount of information in
seconds. People can post everything from family vacation photos to their political
views at any time, and this can reveal more about a person than they realize. On
most social media accounts there are privacy settings which allows a person to
control who see the content of their account. By sharing information that everyone
can see, people are making their private lives are more public. Universities have
begun using social media as a way to keep track of their current students and their
prospective students in and outside of school by monitoring what they post. Even if

Many people often have more than one social media account, and on each account
they will post several times a day about different topics. If colleges wanted to use
online accounts to vet current and future students, they would need several people
and a long period of time to do the searching. The University of Virginia s dean of
admission stated, Frankly, we don t have the time to look for individual student
information on Facebook, and sometimes I doubt the authenticity (qtd in
Greenwood 2). Admitting students into college can be a very long process and by
adding a social media check to the process would be time consuming and
unhelpful. People use their social media as a way to express themselves, and many
people have a lot to post on their accounts. Millions of students submit their
application to the colleges they want to attend each year. In addition to looking
through all the applications students send, colleges would have to look through
every social media account that the possible student has. In the article Network Your
Way into College, The director of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at
Vanderbilt University said, College admissions representatives simply don t have
time to look up an applicant s Facebook profile (qtd in Wood 14). Colleges have to
look through many different items on many different applications during the process

The moon, ocean, and wind shape and sculpt the earth. The moon creates the tides,
and lights the earth at night. The ocean erodes the earth, making sand where dirt and
water meet. The wind molds the landscape of the earth, carrying dust, seed, and
storm. These different forces of nature define the earth s form, creating coasts, rivers,
mountains, and deserts. In the novel Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya, MarГa,

and strength. The conflicting dreams of Gabriel and Maria, along with a crisis of
faith, create Antonio s internal conflict, which Ultima and Gabriel help resolve.
Gabriel and MarГa s clashing aspirations create inner conflict in Antonio. Gabriel is
firmly opposed to MarГa s dream for Antonio. MarГa wants Antonio to become a
Luna priest who rules over a farmer community, and makes it clear what her
expectations of Antonio are. However, Gabriel doesn t have good feeling[s] towards
priests; his father beat a priest for preaching against him, and Gabriel often makes
fun of priests, calling them women, as they wear long skirts (29). When MarГa
suggests talking to the current priest about Antonio s future, Gabriel snaps at her,
saying that it is not the priest who will decide when the time comes, but Tony himself

George Smith Patton was born on November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel, California,
the relative of a Confederate Common War veteran. Dyslexic as a kid, he was
guided at home until the age of 12 instead of go to government funded school. In
any case, Patton needed to be a warrior more than whatever else, and he endeavored
to conquer his dyslexia. His endeavors were remunerated in 1903 when he picked
up acknowledgement into the Virginia Military Foundation. After a year of study,
Patton was admitted to the U.S. Military Foundation at West Point, however
insufficiencies in science postponed his graduation until 1909. He was then
dispatched a second lieutenant of rangers and in 1912, turned into the first
American to take an interest in the Olympic pentathlon in Stockholm. General
Patton, driven a campaign over a mainland to free the universe of the Nazi controls
that undermined it. Patton went to the U.S. Military and graduated in 1909. After
his graduation, General Patton joined the cavalry where he served in World War I.
Patton put in stock in diligent work and an intense mental perspective from his
men. Patton got his first tastes of activity in quest for Mexico s unbelievable

new defensively covered branch as the first U.S. Officer of Armor. In the middle of
World War I, General Patton was struck by automatic weapon shoot and was
genuinely injured, barely getting away from a conceivable demise.
41. Computer Mediated Communication In Social Media
The world is more connected than ever before. The various channels of
communication available to us allow for a multitude of opportunities for civic
engagement, public speech and an ability to organize collective action. Within the
realm of politics, social media has the possibility of connecting ordinary citizens with
politicians and encourage a more participatory kind of politics (Shirkey, 2011).
However, internet trolling has made politicians wary about engaging with citizens on
social media platforms. An internet trollis an individual who uses anonymity to stir up
drama, often within a comment thread on a blog or news website with a goal of
enticing arguments and disputes among other users (Cramer, 2013). By creating a
disruptive and an abusive environment on social media, internet trolls are disrupting
political discourse, interrupting civic engagement and as a result hurting the
democratic process.
Communication between users on social media is an example of mediated
communication. Mediated communication is a method in which there is something
between the sender and the receiver , most frequently that something being
technology, such as a computer (Dainton Zelley, 2015). Computer mediated
communication, or CMC, as it is also called, carries many benefits such as quick and
efficient communication (Hardaker, 2015). This type of communication is
asynchronous, meaning users don t interact with each other in real time and may
respond to posts and comments on

as the emergence of inspirational symbols. St. Paul s Cathedral is undoubtedly the

The raid consisted of over 800 tons of explosives and produced over 2,000 fires.
Prepping the City
In order to deal with the threat of the bombing of London, the British government
took on a variety of precautions. From a militaristic standpoint, the R.A.F. bomber
force was built up in hope that fear of reprisal would keep the Germans away. But
when it came to the point that an attack was more than likely, the British government
sought to camouflage targets as best as they could. Individual targets were hidden by
smoke and paint during the day and a total blackout, over all of Britain and Northern
Ireland, was mandatory at night. The blackout made it difficult for the bombers to
find their targets and did result in a spreading out of the bombs, instead of
concentrated attacks on selected areas.
Prepping the People
With the threat of gas, high explosives, and fire, the people of London called for
protection. The British government had plans to distribute respirators even before the
war began to deal with potential gassing. As far as dealing with bombs, the
government faced a variety of problems. First, it was estimated that there would be

Sectarianism refers to the rivalry of division along religious lines, which in many
cases led to prejudice, discrimination and even violent behaviour amongst the

Sectarianism had a negative impact on employment opportunities. This because many

William Hughes. There was a conscription referendum twice during the First World

During the lead up to the first referendum, Archbiship Mannix used the conscription
