In The Razor s Edge by Somerset Maugham Isabel was a sympathetic character
because she loved Larry, but married Gray. She understood that her love for Larry
would not be enough for his happiness, so she let him go. She married Gray not for
her happiness, but to appease her family. Her ability to relinquish her emotions,
future, and her family, made her selfless. Elizabeth was engaged to Larry for the first
two parts of The Razor s Edge, but her lovefor him continued throughout the novel.

exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic female form through abstract
sculpturespecifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both Chihuly s piece
as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be

W.H. Auden s The Shield of Achilles and Musee des Beaux Arts encapsulate the
sense of nihilism that pervade society after World War II. It is an age of
disillusionment when people can no longer put faith in science and technology, since
they have witnessed the catastrophe brought about by machines; nor can they rely on
their government, as totalitarianism has created a frigid world where nothingness
stands. However, although the prospect of the contemporary world seems bleak,
W.H. Auden still harbors a flicker of hope. Through the use of ekphrasis and other
poetic techniques, Auden implies that it is a matter of one s choice to break away
from this prevailing pessimism.

Truly, I don t know anything about this court but I did read the website of what
happened but yet somehow the Tinkers won in the court case mainly because the
school did not lay any good arguments on the table. The school started out with an
understandable argument but then it just went downhill from there because they
did something totally wrong when they should have done something better about

Media violence has been tremendously growing and attaining the hazardous extents.
Two thirds of TV shows contain some kind of violence. Most self involving video
games contain some violent matter in it. For example, if you manufacture guns, you
do not need to give any advertisement, because it is done by the amusement industry.
Aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, hallucinations, and fear of being
mishandled were caused by the media violence, was explained in a 2009 Policy
Statement on Media Violence, by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The increase
in aggressive behavior happens by watching violent video shows on TV, and by
playing violent video games.
The researchers found that boys and girls who played a lot of violent video games
changed over the school year. Media violence is not likely to convert the children
into a violent criminal. But, someday by just smoking a cigarette can increase the
likelihood of a lung cancer. Likewise, a violent show can increase the likelihood of

8.Throughout the entire essay, Dumas is stressing her belief that diversity is an
important thing in a life. She claims that Americans do not have enough diversity
in their everyday life. She has many points of evidence to support her claim and
argument from the very start of the essay when she says how kids made fun of her
and her family do to their names just because they were different from what
American children are used to. She states that some Americans when she lived in
Berkeley would flock to her just because her name is what we would consider

I believe Dumas has multiple tones throughout her essay. Humor or sarcasm is the
main tone that Dumas uses, but there is also a bitter tone hidden amongst the
sarcasm in the writing. I say she uses sarcasm or humor for obvious reasons
because she is constantly using funny life memories to add a livelier impact to her
rather serious writing. She uses the humorous or sarcastic tone in order to keep
readers interested on what she really means. I truly do believe, though, that Dumas
is actually bitter towards America and the Americans living in it. She never flat
out says the things she hates about America because she does not want to offend
anyone, but she hints towards it through her sarcasm. When she says, America is a
great country, but nobody without a mask and a cape has a z in his name. And
have Americans ever realized the great scope of the guttural sounds they re
missing? Okay, so it has to do with linguistic roots, but I do believe this would be a
richer country if all Americans could do a little more tongue aerobics and learn to
