Necessary? In modern society, violence is unquestionably looked down upon. With

However, this was not always the case. In Octavia Butler s book Kindred, she does
not hesitate in intensely describing the unjust and violent exploitation of power by
white people against blacks within the 1800 s. Even more so, she uses violence as a
dominant theme throughout the entire novel. As always, a sensitive topic like full
out physical abuse is hard to handle for some readers, and that makes people question
whether the prevalent violent theme in Kindred was truly necessary. Without violence,

In Kindred, the impact of these violence acts were accurately represented through
Dana s thoughts on them. She said the whipping served its purpose as far as I was

criminal justicesystem. I chose to research the topic of recidivism for many reasons,
one of them is that it relates to my experience because many of the residents I
interacted with this summer had been involved with the system more than one
time and in fact many of them have been through the L/M CBCF s program
multiple times. One of the females who is currently going through the program
had been to the facility five times prior to this one and many of the males have
been through the program at least twice. Many of them also talk about not being
able to stop themselves from relapsing once they are released from the facility and
being through a lot of other rehabilitation and recovery centers. After this discovery
I wanted to explore and research more about recidivism and why it is a common
occurrence for most criminal offenders and what can be done about it. In order to do
this I searched a lot of online databases and examined quite a few academic journals,
articles and other scholarly documents and websites on the topic. I tried to find

The present study was established to show revealed the presence of neurochemical
and histopathological changes in the cerebellum of rat model of Parkinson s disease
induced by the intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This may change the strategy of the
disease treatment that depends mainly on the restoration of dopaminelevels in the
basal ganglia.
The present findings showed the development of hyperexcitability in the cerebellum
of rat model of PD induced by intrastriatal injection of rotenone. This was indicated
from the significant increase in the excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters; glutamate
and aspartate and the significant decrease in the inhibitory amino acids; GABA,
glycine and taurine. These neurotransmitters are involved in many functions such as
motor behavior, cognition, and emotion (Ottersen and Storm Mathisen, 1986,
Schmidt et al., 1992)1,2. The balance between excitatory and inhibitory
neurotransmission is important for brain to sustain proper neuronal function (Mel et
al., 2004)[1]. Perturbation in glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission is
associated with several neurological and psychiatric disorders (Sanacora et al., 2004)
