An Auspicious Tibetan Furniture Piece
It is interesting to think that furniture is something we take for granted in the modern West, unless we
are interested in and collect antique furniture. Western furniture includes useful, practical items chairs
that we sit on, raised beds that we sleep on, desks that we rest our computers on, bookshelves we put
our books on, etc. So it can be hard to imagine a culture, such as that of Tibet, where some of the
furniture has a completely different function, being used in a ritual and devotional capacity. In this
essay, I will be analyzing a nineteenth century furniture piece from Central Tibet with the label name
Altar Table with Auspicious Symbols that is currently on view at the Los Angeles County Museum of
Art. The furnishing is made from wood with mineral pigments and stands approximately twenty four
inches in height, thirty three inches in width, and eleven inches in depth. My goal, upon completion of
the essay, is to further my understanding of the altar table in Tibet which includes the importance of
the material, symbolism and iconography, its main purpose and function, and background in the
culture. I will start with my original analysis of the piece and add in my research to the following
paragraphs. When I first walked into the room where this piece was exhibited I was immediately
drawn to its ornate details and rather bright colors compared to the other objects that were displayed
next to this one. The worn primary colors contrasted with the browns of the

Stem Cell Essay
The logical history of foundational microorganism may be explored as it has unfolded in the course of
recent years; and after this, it will swing to a thought of the political history of undifferentiated
organism look into. There has been a relentless pattern of researchers progressively taking in the
privileged insights of stem cells and having the capacity to apply their new learning to either look into
potential medications or really convey powerful medicines to people. In 2001, Bush issued an official
request that put huge limitations on government financing for undeveloped cell look into; and in 2009,
Obama canceled this request with his very own request called Removing Barriers to Responsible

Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, meaning they are able to grow (i.e. differentiate) into all
derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. In other words, they
can develop into each of the more than 200 cell types of the adult body as long as they are specified to
do so. Embryonic stem cells are distinguished by two distinctive properties: their pluripotency, and
their ability to replicate indefinitely. ES cells are pluripotent, that is, they are able to differentiate into
all derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm (Science Daily).
Amongst grown up and embryonic undifferentiated cells, obviously embryonic undeveloped cell look

because of the distinction in convictions of individuals. Nonetheless, embryonic stem cells inquire

every tissue in the body. This shows the the two separate ways researchers create stem cells on the

An Analysis Of Astrophil And Stella By Sir Philip Sidney
How can we record a love so deep it lasts a life time? In Astrophil and Stella, Sir Philip Sidney does
just this, creating a chronological sequence of 108 sonnets, depicting the longing and futile adoration
of the speaker Astrophil towards his love interest Stella. It has been widely noted that the sonnets may
be a reflection of Sidney s own life, after his infamous love of Penelope Devereux following their
meeting in 1575, which is said to have lasted through her marriage to another man, and up until his
untimely death in 1583. Sonnet 31, the sonnet I will be mainly discussing in this essay, is undeniably
the most famous of Sidney s sonnets. This sonnet utilises Sidney s favourite Italian rhyme scheme
ABBA CDCD EE, paired with his preferred Italian sonnet style, including an octave, followed by a
sestet, and a turn in line 8. This writing style not native to the English Language displays Sidney s
mastery in conveying his emotional anguish a skill which elevates him as a loved and dearly missed
poet of the Elizabethan era. The poem employs iambic pentameter, showing Sidney s marriage of
typically English meter with a continental writing style, which creates a beautifully complex narrative
of a pining love. The strict meter creates a steady and somewhat lyrical rhyme scheme, which adds a
romantic essence of sound to the sonnet, almost as if Astrophil is attempting to serenade Stella
throughout the collection of poetry, unfortunately, to no avail. Sonnet 31

Aristotle s Philosophy On Ethics
Nicomachean ethics is the name of Aristotle s work on ethics based on his lectures. It is said that
Nicomachean ethics were named after either Aristotle s father or son , as they were both named
Nicomachus. Aristotle believed that happiness is what makes a person pure. To prove his point,
Aristotle believed that there were four moral virtues that worked together; the virtue of great soul, the
virtue of justice, the virtue of practical judgment and the virtue of being a truly good friend. Ten books
have been written from Aristotle s lecture notes.
Aristotle s first seven books focus on the virtues he believed were important and was believed to have
his thoughts on ethics based on Plato and Socrates philosophy. In the first seven books, Aristotle goes
over basic virtues and how they relate to each other and to moral values. Over the next few
paragraphs, I will explain my understandings of Aristotle s virtues from these books.
In Book I, Aristotle starts to discuss what Plato stated about the Theory of Forms, but mainly wants to
define happiness, what is also known as Eudaimonia. Aristotle states in Book I, three ways in which
people associate with happiness; slavish way of pleasure (majority of people), refined and active way
of politics, (which aims at honor), and the way of contemplation (Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics).
These three things are said to be what people aim for in their own sake of happiness.
In Book II, Aristotle speaks about the nature of human

Living Under Totalitarianism Research Paper
Living Under Totalitarianism
A totalitarianism is a dictatorship that exercises unprecedented control over the masses and seeks to
mobilize them for action. Living under totalitarian means that the government controls people while
they are stripped of their freedom. Life in a society without freedom is painful and unbearable. To top
it off, a government controlled society without freedom is even worse. With the government
controlling all of the systems in a society basically means that the citizens are constantly being
watched 24/7 and needs permission for every actions they take. Otherwise, they would be arrested,
exiled or even put to death. Life in a society with no freedom controls the citizens life. Giving them no

In a society without freedom they are not allowed to do what most people can do in a free society.
With government controlling the citizens, it s like as if are a group of sheep locked in a cage being
watched constantly, not being able to do what they want. As previously mentioned in document 6 32
Things Cubans Can t Do by Carlos Eire, Cuban citizens needed permission from the government just
to do the simplest thing from accessing the internet to selling products. In document 5 Hitler and Nazi
Germany by Hannah Vogt, people in the Third Reich were being tortured and executed because of
impurity of race. This illustrates how the Nazis are using their power to annihilate people from the
Third Reich while they have no power of right or freedom whatsoever. They also established
concentration camp originally as a way to convince people that they were a necessary part of restoring
public order and security and when they are voted into power, they used it as a way to keep people in
fear of opposing them. Basically the original purpose of the concentration camp was false and the
main goal was to control people and abolish them while taking away their freedom without them even

Legalization Of Polygamy In The United States
In today s developing world it is common for people to desire and be affectionate with more than one
spouse. It seems difficult for one person, man or woman to commit to being with one spouse,
therefore the divorce rates are increasing every day. The question remains whether this act should be
legalized or not.
Polygamy is having more than one spouse. There are different types of polygamy; these include
polygamy where a man has multiple wives, polyandry in which a woman has multiple husbands, and
group marriage where a family consists of multiple husbands and wives. Polygamy is definitely the
most popular of the three listed. In the United States the practice of any form of polygamy is illegal
and due to this law, many adherents of the lifestyle stays hidden. My perspective of polygamy is that
having more than one spouse should remain illegal because marriage means committing to one person
alone.
Having more than one spouse can cause many issues for the family. Financial issues, lack of attention
and affection to the other wives, one of the wives may feel like the husband is giving more attention ...

Polygamy brings many problems in a family life, but some people support it because it doesn t
conflict with religion. In my opinion, polygamy should not be legalized. By not legalizing polygamy
in the United States is a great way to save families from suffering. Polygamy doesn t only give a bad
effect for the wives but for the children s psychology. Polygamy can also encourage the idea that
women are considered objects that men can own. Eventually, this can lead to abuse and other issues
that no one should ever have to deal with. These relationships will cause hatred, jealousy, depressed,
and an emotional burden among the family members. Therefore, polygamous marriage is not a right
thing to do. It just causes more problems, women, and children suffer from

Describe Joseph Pilates
Pilates was created when Joseph Pilates was held captive as an enemy alien in England during the start
of World War I. While imprisoned, Joseph tied springs to hospital beds that allowed patients to
exercise without resistance while in bed. After being freed and returning to Germany, Joe s fitness
techniques became popular among dancers. What s interesting and unique about Joseph is that he was
interested in the Greek ideal of a man being balanced in body, mind, and spirit. Joseph looked to
animals to see how mammals moved properly. Joseph then moved to the United States where he met
his wife Clara, and they opened a fitness studio together in New York City. Most of their clients at first
were dancers, especially ballerinas. Joseph individualized

Upon its creation in 1970, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, has strived
to alleviate the onslaught of occupational injuries that have plagued American industries since the
Industrial Revolution by setting and implementing standards for safe and healthful working

13) penalized by OSHA and a reduction in injuries in those specific categories, citing the
administration s effort to negatively signal firms to change their safety programs by administering
fines as a catalyst for that decline. While this study supports the notion that OSHA has been effective
in reducing injuries in the workplace, I will be building on the results to determine if OSHA s efforts
to reduce violations specific to Fall Protection (C, 1926.501), as well as drawing attention to fall
hazards, have been effective in reducing fall related fatalities in totality, and those involving ladders,
roofs, and scaffolds, in the construction industry over a span of 23 years. Fall related accidents, unlike
many others in the construction industry, are 100% preventable if proper measures are in place. If the
correlation between the year and the quantity of fall related fatalities is statistically significant, it is
confirmable that OSHA is moving closer to its goal of alleviating injuries and deaths in one of the
most dangerous industries in the United States. Moreover, a statistically significant correlation, if
present, will provide a regression line that will allow researchers to predict the future quantities of fall
related fatalities in the construction industry, and in relationship to ladders, roofs, and scaffolds, enable
OSHA to further

Work Of Artifice
Identity in The Work of Artifice In the poem The Work of Artifice written by Marge Piercy, the motif
of identity is dominant. The author describes the making of a bonsai tree and explains the gardener s
point of view on it as it is pruned and cared for by him. Bonsai trees are usually versions of a normal
tree that are hindered in growth and kept miniature for the sole purpose of visual pleasure. They
require regular pruning and an extensive amount of work by the gardener so they can grow properly.
The Bonsai tree is tied into the poem extremely well by the author. She even produces a magnificent
extended metaphor out of the bonsai tree. During the poem Piercy focuses on two main forms of
identity: the bonsai tree s natural identity and the identity that is described ... Show more content on

This is stated by the author at the beginning of the poem when she says, eighty feet tall on the side of a
mountain (lines 3 4). Piercy is describing what the tree could have been if it were not restricted by the
gardener. If the tree would have been fortunate enough to grow up in the wild, it could have grown to
the height of at least eighty feet tall and would have been on the side of a mountain where its roots
could span the entire mountainside instead of only a few square inches inside of the bonsai pot. This
description could easily be related back to a child being raised. A child could have easily had the
potential to change the world; however, if they are not cared for in the right way and allowed to reach
their own limits, they will be restricted and forced to be what their caretakers allow them to be. This
could also be a metaphor for a marriage. The wife being the Bonsai tree and the husband being the
gardener. In this context the natural identity would be that of the wife that has the potential to be
extraordinary by herself; however, she is held down and restricted by her controlling

Conformity and Obedience Essays
Conformity and Obedience Why do we conform? Two basic sources of influence: normative social
influence, the need to be liked, accepted by others and Informational influence: need to be correct and
to behave in accordance with reality. Solomon Asch (1956) devised an experiment to see if subjects
would conform even if they were uncertain that the group norm was incorrect. In his study he asked
subjects to take part in an experiment. They were each asked to match a standard length line with three
other lines. He found that one of the situational factors of conformity is the size of the opposing
majority. In a series of studies he varied the number of confederates that gave correct answers from 1

Moscovici found that consistency in the minority was important in winning over the majority with
respect to the colour of the slides. Not all decisions are made from a majority influence. For example,
the suffragettes started a movement in 1920 which changed the public and private opinion allowing
women to have the right to vote in western society. As long as a minority stick by four basic rules then
they stand a good chance of succeeding in their campaign. They need to be Consistent in their views,
Flexible not too rigid in their views, Committed to the cause until it s heard and Relevant, they have
more chance of being influential if their views are in line with social trends. Another experiment that
psychologists use in respect of conformity and obedience is an experiment that was carried out by a
psychologist named Stanley Milgram. He recruited 40 male participants by advertising for volunteers
to take part in a study to see how punishment affects learning. The study was to take place at Yale
University and everyone would be paid the same rate of $4.50 and they were informed that they would
still get paid if they quit during the study. There were two confederates one an experimenter and the
other a learner. The participants were always the teacher. The teacher was placed with the psychologist

Explain The Sliding Filament Theory Of Muscle Action
The sliding filament theory of a muscle action has five phases. The first phase is resting. In this phase
there is no calcium available to bind the myosin to the actin. This is the normal state of the muscle
until activated by the excitatory phase. During this second phase, the sarcoplasmic reticulum becomes
stimulated. This releases calcium ions and binds with troponin. This is a protein that is strung along
the actin filaments. Tropomyosin runs along the actin filaments. The actin is pulled closer to the
sarcomere. The contraction phase is when it gets interesting. ATP is broken down into ADP in order to
create energy for the contraction. To return to the normal state of the muscle, ATP replaces ADP and
aids in detachment of the myosin cross

Colonialism In Africa
By the 1960, most of Africa had become independent from colonial powers who reluctantly gave them
freedom after wars that were gory and unpleasant. Africa had started to build or put together a
government that could hopefully unify the country. African had presidents, dictators, etc. But did
Africa ever really gain independence? Based on who you ask, you will get an answer that can be
separated into different groups, one group will tell you yes and others will say no. At the end of
colonialism there was never a shift in society in Africa. If you look at the current GDP of most African
countries, the growth of the economy, and then peer at the amount of debt they owe to the world bank
then one can see that things have not changed since the end of colonialism. Africa shifted from
colonialism to post colonialism, however Europe never left Africa formally. And Africa never really
pushed for them to leave due to the structure of colonialism. For instance, when Congo had gained
political independence from Belgium, there were only 16 college graduates in the whole country.
Colonialism underdeveloped Africa, many of the people in Africa never gained an education. In
addition, country lines were created in order for colonial powers to be able to exert control over a
group of people that it had just defeated. Before colonialism, Africans had city states as opposed to
nation states. The economy in Africa was primarily based on trade between people in the community.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GMOs?
It has been no secret that one of the biggest contributors to GMO crops is Monsanto. This is the same
company responsible for Saccharin, Aspartame, DDT, Agent Orange, Bovine Growth Hormone and
Glyphosate. In addition, they are also responsible for PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls that were used
for coolant fluids for electrical transformers, capacitors, and electric motors). This eventually led to
Monsanto paying out over $600 million in 2003 to residents of Anniston, Alabama, who experienced
severe health problems, including liver disease, neurological disorders and cancer after being exposed
to PCBs.

Many other countries have done their own analysis and research and have found unequivocally that
GMO seeds show signs of high toxicity, which offer serious side effects and negative health effects on
consumers.
Several of the companies that have been responsible for GMO crops and their negative effects on

The smell of the salt water hangs in the air on a crisp autumn day in the year 1585, as the sounds of
waves crashing against the ships on the coast can be heard off in the distant. Sir Walter Raleigh s
explorers Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe steps foot on the sand of the beach of what is now
common day Virginia, and breaths in the air of what is the New World. Roanoke was an island off the
coast of, what today is called, Dare County, North Carolina. The island was established by Queen
Elizabeth 1 in 1585. On July 4th of 1584, Amadas and Barlowe stepped foot on the grounds of what
would be called Roanoke Island. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his time there, Grenville helped build relations with the people there, as well, build a fort there.
However, the other 4 ships would never arrive, and going tired of waiting on them, Grenville decided
to leave and sail onward. After sailing onward, Grenville s ship reached the outer coast of the Carolina
s. It was there that he would met up with the other 4 ships, and together, would all explore this new
area. They built a village, and after some time, Grenville decided to return to England for more food
and supplies, but he left behind a few people to maintain the village that were built. He promised to
return shortly with more food and supplies, however, after several years, with no sign of Grenville, the
villagers were ready to leave the New World. It was during this time that Sir Francis Drake stopped by
the village on his return trip from a successful raid in the Caribbean, he offered to take the villagers
back to England with him. All accepted and soon they all left for England, with tobacco, maize, and
potatoes that the villagers brought with them from the Native Americans that they encountered there.
However, Grenville would return, but only to find that the colony was abandoned. After seeing this,
Grenville decided to return to England with most of his crew, only leaving behind a few people to
maintain the village and to keep an English presence on Sir Walter Raleigh s claim to Roanoke

The lights shine brightly onto the stage, illuminating the fact that there is a figure standing in the

While an instrumental background starts playing, the figure steps up towards the microphone, and a

The arts are a passion the gives multiple benefits. For me, one benefit is that the arts allowed me to see

was the night of the Westfield themed concert at Westfield Academy and Central School in 2016. As
with every concert I had to be there at 6:00 pm, this time was different however, because this time I
had to sing a solo to a song that was written by a past Westfield student who also happened to be the
chorus teacher s daughter, and would be sitting the audience waiting to hear the high school chorus

Starbucks Is A Leader Of The Coffee House Industry
There is no doubt that humans love their coffee, and with thousands of corporate and franchised stores
all around the world, Starbucks is a leader in the coffee house industry. Formed in Seattle, Washington
over forty years ago, this humble coffee shop has expanded into most every major city in the nation.
According to an article from Huffingtonpost.com, 80% of the population in the lower 48 United States

STARBUCKS EFFORT TO LOWER THEIR CARBON FOOTPRINT 3 Since the number of paper
cups that Starbucks goes through on an annual basis is in the billions, a reduction of these cups would
have a great positive impact on the environment. Walk into any Starbucks store and a wide variety of
reusable cups are available for sale. They vary in size, shape, price, and design, but all encourage the

article announced the roll out of a new Starbucks reusable plastic cup priced at only a dollar.
Starbucks is trying to reduce the amount of paper cups that end up in a landfill every year. The plastic
reusable cup can withstand about thirty washings in the dishwasher and then once it s no longer
usable, the cup can be recycled, as well. Starbucks kept the cup the traditional white and green themed

Exploring The Cost Of Hydraulic Fracturing Essay
Exploring the Cost of Hydraulic Fracturing in Colorado: What are the potential effects of the Tres Rio
2016 Oil and Gas Lease/Sale on Montezuma County s public health, ecological communities, and
economic stability?
Introduction
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique often administered by oil and gas companies in order
to create fissures within subsurface shale formations. After a site is established, the initial step entails
breaking through the soil and stone via a bit placed at the end of a drill. As the drill moves through the
rock layers, it utilizes air pressure to drive fragmented rocks to the surface. The drill ceases
immediately after it comes into contact with the first indication of fresh water. Once the drill is
removed, cement is incorporated into the drilled hole in an effort to prevent contamination of the
water source and as a safety measure.
Secondary steps require a perforated gun producing high magnitude electrical currents to be
introduced down the wellbore (oil field terminology pertaining to a hole generated from oil/gas
exploration), helping drive holes into the cement and ultimately enabling a channel for gas flow. The
gun is then removed. Under high pressure, the drill pumps a solution of water, sand, and chemicals
into the established site, allowing the gas (methane) to be released and stored.
Finally, a pipeline constructed from the storage space to the consumer market supplies the gas as an
energy source. Radioactive waste water also

David Wechsler developed the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI)

preschoolers (Cohen, Swerdlik, Sturman, 2012). There were three revisions developed since 1967, the
WPPSI Revised, the WPPSI III, and the current version, the WPPSI IV. Pearson Education Company
published the WPPSI IV in 2012. Pearson s revision goals aimed to increase the test s psychometric

Content validity measures the extent to which the test measures what it says it will measure. To ensure
the WPPSI IV had sufficient content validity, expert panels reviewed each revision of individual items
and subtests at each stage of the development process. Furthermore, literature reviews were
conducted, which yielded lengthy explanations of the construct each subtest was designed to measure
(Syeda Climie, 2014; Wechsler, 2012b). Test administrators interviewed individuals who had common
incorrect responses and asked them to explain their problem solving process. Utilizing the feedback
from the examinees, the test developers altered items to decrease the likelihood of these common
incorrect responses (Syeda Climie, 2014). Pearson provided adequate correlation coefficients between
the WPPSI IV and the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test Third Edition (WIAT III), and the
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Fourth Edition (WISC IV), demonstrating convergent
validity. Additionally, low correlation coefficients between tests that measured unrelated constructs
demonstrated divergent validity (Wechsler,

Chris Stapleton s Music Analysis
Chris Stapleton released his debut album, Traveller, in the Spring of 2015. This album is characterized
by what I would describe as a traditional country feel, but with a slightly more modern sound, or to be
more technical, a country rock meets blues album. This record, and Chris Stapleton himself, went
relatively unnoticed by the general public after initial release. It was not until the 2015 CMA awards
when Stapleton performed Tennessee Whiskey with Justin Timberlake that his album truly took off
(Welch). Since then, songs from Traveller can frequently be heard on national country radio stations,
as well as on tour, a show I will be attending in May. The reason I chose to review Traveller is because
Tennessee Whiskey sucker punched me in the best way possible. By this I mean that before I heard the
song, I had been ignoring most new country music and artists because I had not been connecting with
the music like I did in previous years. For the past seven years of my life I have been listening to
almost exclusively rock and metal music, music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time, Stapleton is singing with a strong, deep voice and at a slower pace, however he

Might As Well Get Stoned, Stapleton goes high in a broken manner, which would typically seem like a
mistake, however the brokenness of the notes only adds to Stapleton s emotional delivery of the song.
Sometimes I Cry is one of the most vocally profound country songs I have ever found. The first time I
listened to it, I genuinely got chills as the whole song is such an experience. The vocals of this song
are similar to Jackie Wilson s song Please Tell Me Why, as both are weeper style, though Stapleton s is
a more subdued version of it. This song best exemplifies his range on Traveller as it is easy to tell that

The Importance Of Western Hegemony In An Antique Land
What exactly is western hegemony? This question can be easily answered with a couple of minutes
using google. To save your time though I will answer it for you. Hegemony is defined as, the social,
cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group (Merriam Webster). Western
hegemony is the west exerting hegemony on the east. This has been an ongoing theme for some time
now. The west is considered more advanced or better than other countries. This is in the heads of the
people of the east at all times as they compare themselves to the west. In An Antique Land is a book
written by an Indian writer, Amitav Ghosh, in the year of 1992. The book has two main stories
throughout it. This provides for a very interesting read. It goes back and forth between Ghosh and his
anthropological adventure in Egypt and in ancient documents covering Ben Yuji and his slave Bomma
that were alive in the 12th century. Ghosh switches the views usually through different chapters and it
is easy to follow from where he left off from each side. Ghosh lives with Islamic Egyptians and
studies them and how they live while learning more about their view of the west and its hegemony.
This book is full of evidence of western hegemony on the account of Amitav Ghosh and his
acquaintances while he is in Egypt. He expresses many different scenes in the book that display
Egyptian view s of the western culture and military power. With their view comes all sorts of
misconceptions and

Evaluation Of The Concentration Of Lead Essay
Estimation of heavy Metal (Lead, Chromium, Cadmium, Zinc, Copper, Arsenic) in Fresh Milk by
AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrometer) খসড়া Abstract: This project was aimed to measure the
concentration of Lead (Pb), Chromium (Cr) and Cadmium (Cd), in brands of full cream powder milk
available commercially in Harar using Atomic Absorption spectrometer. To this effect samples of three
different brands of full cream milk powder were collected from Harar local market, Each of 3 ml of
fresh milk samples were wet digested in 5ml of HNO3 (69 72%) and 3ml HClO4 (70%) for 2:30 h at a
temperature of 210 0C. The wet digestion procedure was tested by varying reagent volume, digestion
time and digestion temperature to develop a procedure that consume less reagent volume, clear
solution, that requires minimum digestion time and minimum digestion temperature applied. The
concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Cr and Cd) in the powder milk collected from Harar were
determined by using flame Atomic Absorption spectrometer. Concentration of Lead, Chromium and
Cadmium in the powder milk brands were found to be in the range: 0.038 0.1688ppm, 0.0597
0.222ppm, and ND for sample X and Z but 0.068ppm for sample Y, respectively. The accuracy of the
optimized procedure was evaluated by analyzing the digest of the spiked samples. The recoveries of
the metals were in the range of 95.91 99.3% and the standard deviations were less than 10%. These
values are compared with recommended dietary allowance (RDA)

Virtual School Vs Online School Research Paper
Why is school so dreadful to some students? Well, for at least 11 years of their lives they must attend
school. In Florida, legally at the age of sixteen they are allowed to drop out. Although, the
consequences of dropping out will shape the future of most of the students who choose to drop out.
Dropout rates are alarmingly increasing in the United States. Students often feel trapped in school and
are not aware of the other alternatives they can take. One alternative being online education. Online
education is a better method of learning for kids because it allows them to personalize their own
education, it offers them classes that the school may not have, and it allows students to experience the
world and not feel trapped by traditional school.

However, online school also allows one to have more free time and have more variety in their
schedule. Often while in school it is stressful to go to school and have a life outside of school. Then,
when graduating high school, one may have to go to college and have a job to support themselves.
Students often drop out so they can experience life outside of school. Online school offers the
alternative by allowing them to finish their classes on their time and do other things like have jobs,
and volunteer, and join clubs. Statistically online students spend 5 to 10 hours less in virtual school
than traditional school, however have higher GPA s (Christopher,1). It is argued that the online method
of educating hinders a student from having an active social life. However, in traditional school it is
often harder to maintain a social life given that during school hours students are expected to remain
focused in school, and after school they spend hours doing homework. In online school there often isn

The Proces of Evolution
Without evolution, and the constant ever changing environment, the complexity of living organisms
would not be as it is. Evolution is defined as a process that results in heritable changes in a population
spread over many generations (8).Scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on
scientific evidence that corroborates the theory of evolution. In Figure 1 the pictures of the skulls
depict the sequence of the evolution of Homo sapiens. As the figure shows, man has evolved from our
common ancestor that is shared by homo sapiens. The change of diet of homo sapiens over time has
thought to contribute to the change in jaw structure and overall skull shape.
The process of evolution comprises of many complex of mechanisms. These mechanisms
fundamentally allow the progression of speciation and adaptation to occur. There are 4 common kinds
of evolutionary mechanism of change: Natural Selection, Genetic Drift, Mutation and Migration.
Natural selection is based on the concept survival of the fittest where the most favourable individual
best suited in the environment survive and pass on their genes for the next generation. Those
individual who are less suited to the environment will die.
Another mechanism is a hereditable type of evolution is mutations. Mutations are alterations to a gene.
Mutation can be harmful, beneficial or neutral. Mutations are the origin of the source of genetic
diversity (9).Mutation that are harmful, hinders the chances of the

Our economy is based on cash crops such as tobacco, cotton, indigo, corn, and rice. The social
standing in our colonies is based on family status and land ownership. Our society is mostly made up
of small scale subsistence farmers, hunters, and traders. The life down here is mainly people living
and working on plantations, simple, not expensive, and we also get along with each other. Our
geographic features are fertile soil, hilly coastal plains, forests, lots of rivers, bays, and wetlands. The
climate down here is warm which makes it easier to spread disease, but it s worth it because it helps
with the growth of crops. Our government in the Southern Colonies is democratic, we elect our own
legislature. We have a governor, a governor s court, and a court system. We are not dominated by any
religion which gives you religious freedom. Come down to the South now and make a huge profit
from the cash crops. Target Candidate As the real estate agent, I believe that our target candidate for
the Southern colonies should be a poor farmer. The reason I believe so is because the Southern
colonies offer a lot of lands that the farmer can get. Also, the climate down here is very good for crops
to grow in. All of these cash crops will give the poor farmer a huge profit. The farmer can also take the
advantage of using slaves for his plantations.

Analysis Of The Book Fahrenheit 451
Fahrenheit 451 begins by introducing Guy Montag, a fireman who starts fires rather than putting them
out, in a grim futuristic United States. The author describes Montag, along with the other fireman, as

The book opens by describing the pleasure experiences doing his job as a fireman one evening. The

others, no one cares to make friends or understand another person. They live to be happy. The next
day, and many days after that, Montag would meet Clarisse and they would walk together and

  • 2. An Auspicious Tibetan Furniture Piece It is interesting to think that furniture is something we take for granted in the modern West, unless we are interested in and collect antique furniture. Western furniture includes useful, practical items chairs that we sit on, raised beds that we sleep on, desks that we rest our computers on, bookshelves we put our books on, etc. So it can be hard to imagine a culture, such as that of Tibet, where some of the furniture has a completely different function, being used in a ritual and devotional capacity. In this essay, I will be analyzing a nineteenth century furniture piece from Central Tibet with the label name Altar Table with Auspicious Symbols that is currently on view at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The furnishing is made from wood with mineral pigments and stands approximately twenty four inches in height, thirty three inches in width, and eleven inches in depth. My goal, upon completion of the essay, is to further my understanding of the altar table in Tibet which includes the importance of the material, symbolism and iconography, its main purpose and function, and background in the culture. I will start with my original analysis of the piece and add in my research to the following paragraphs. When I first walked into the room where this piece was exhibited I was immediately drawn to its ornate details and rather bright colors compared to the other objects that were displayed next to this one. The worn primary colors contrasted with the browns of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stem Cell Essay The logical history of foundational microorganism may be explored as it has unfolded in the course of recent years; and after this, it will swing to a thought of the political history of undifferentiated organism look into. There has been a relentless pattern of researchers progressively taking in the privileged insights of stem cells and having the capacity to apply their new learning to either look into potential medications or really convey powerful medicines to people. In 2001, Bush issued an official request that put huge limitations on government financing for undeveloped cell look into; and in 2009, Obama canceled this request with his very own request called Removing Barriers to Responsible Scientific Research involving Human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, meaning they are able to grow (i.e. differentiate) into all derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. In other words, they can develop into each of the more than 200 cell types of the adult body as long as they are specified to do so. Embryonic stem cells are distinguished by two distinctive properties: their pluripotency, and their ability to replicate indefinitely. ES cells are pluripotent, that is, they are able to differentiate into all derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm (Science Daily). Amongst grown up and embryonic undifferentiated cells, obviously embryonic undeveloped cell look into has far more noteworthy potential to be morally tricky than grown up stem cells inquire about because of the distinction in convictions of individuals. Nonetheless, embryonic stem cells inquire about is largely considered to have the best potential for conveying restorative and logical achievements, since they are more manipulatable since they are not completely created and undifferentiated than grown up foundational microorganisms. The embryonic undifferentiated organisms are helpful for therapeutic and research purposes since they can create cells for practically every tissue in the body. This shows the the two separate ways researchers create stem cells on the right. On the left we see a timescale of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. An Analysis Of Astrophil And Stella By Sir Philip Sidney How can we record a love so deep it lasts a life time? In Astrophil and Stella, Sir Philip Sidney does just this, creating a chronological sequence of 108 sonnets, depicting the longing and futile adoration of the speaker Astrophil towards his love interest Stella. It has been widely noted that the sonnets may be a reflection of Sidney s own life, after his infamous love of Penelope Devereux following their meeting in 1575, which is said to have lasted through her marriage to another man, and up until his untimely death in 1583. Sonnet 31, the sonnet I will be mainly discussing in this essay, is undeniably the most famous of Sidney s sonnets. This sonnet utilises Sidney s favourite Italian rhyme scheme ABBA CDCD EE, paired with his preferred Italian sonnet style, including an octave, followed by a sestet, and a turn in line 8. This writing style not native to the English Language displays Sidney s mastery in conveying his emotional anguish a skill which elevates him as a loved and dearly missed poet of the Elizabethan era. The poem employs iambic pentameter, showing Sidney s marriage of typically English meter with a continental writing style, which creates a beautifully complex narrative of a pining love. The strict meter creates a steady and somewhat lyrical rhyme scheme, which adds a romantic essence of sound to the sonnet, almost as if Astrophil is attempting to serenade Stella throughout the collection of poetry, unfortunately, to no avail. • 7. Aristotle s Philosophy On Ethics Nicomachean ethics is the name of Aristotle s work on ethics based on his lectures. It is said that Nicomachean ethics were named after either Aristotle s father or son , as they were both named Nicomachus. Aristotle believed that happiness is what makes a person pure. To prove his point, Aristotle believed that there were four moral virtues that worked together; the virtue of great soul, the virtue of justice, the virtue of practical judgment and the virtue of being a truly good friend. Ten books have been written from Aristotle s lecture notes. Aristotle s first seven books focus on the virtues he believed were important and was believed to have his thoughts on ethics based on Plato and Socrates philosophy. In the first seven books, Aristotle goes over basic virtues and how they relate to each other and to moral values. Over the next few paragraphs, I will explain my understandings of Aristotle s virtues from these books. In Book I, Aristotle starts to discuss what Plato stated about the Theory of Forms, but mainly wants to define happiness, what is also known as Eudaimonia. Aristotle states in Book I, three ways in which people associate with happiness; slavish way of pleasure (majority of people), refined and active way of politics, (which aims at honor), and the way of contemplation (Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics). These three things are said to be what people aim for in their own sake of happiness. In Book II, Aristotle speaks about the nature of human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Living under totalitarian means that the government controls people while they are stripped of their freedom. Life in a society without freedom is painful and unbearable. To top it off, a government controlled society without freedom is even worse. With the government controlling all of the systems in a society basically means that the citizens are constantly being watched 24/7 and needs permission for every actions they take. • 10. Legalization Of Polygamy In The United States In today s developing world it is common for people to desire and be affectionate with more than one spouse. It seems difficult for one person, man or woman to commit to being with one spouse, therefore the divorce rates are increasing every day. The question remains whether this act should be legalized or not. Polygamy is having more than one spouse. There are different types of polygamy; these include polygamy where a man has multiple wives, polyandry in which a woman has multiple husbands, and group marriage where a family consists of multiple husbands and wives. Polygamy is definitely the most popular of the three listed. In the United States the practice of any form of polygamy is illegal and due to this law, many adherents of the lifestyle stays hidden. My perspective of polygamy is that having more than one spouse should remain illegal because marriage means committing to one person alone. Polygamy can also encourage the idea that women are considered objects that men can own. Eventually, this can lead to abuse and other issues that no one should ever have to deal with. While this study supports the notion that OSHA has been effective in reducing injuries in the workplace, I will be building on the results to determine if OSHA s efforts to reduce violations specific to Fall Protection (C, 1926.501), as well as drawing attention to fall hazards, have been effective in reducing fall related fatalities in totality, and those involving ladders, roofs, and scaffolds, in the construction industry over a span of 23 years. Fall related accidents, unlike many others in the construction industry, are 100% preventable if proper measures are in place. If the correlation between the year and the quantity of fall related fatalities is statistically significant, it is confirmable that OSHA is moving closer to its goal of alleviating injuries and deaths in one of the most dangerous industries in the United States. Moreover, a statistically significant correlation, if present, will provide a regression line that will allow researchers to predict the future quantities of fall related fatalities in the construction industry, and in relationship to ladders, roofs, and scaffolds, enable OSHA to further ... • 13. Work Of Artifice Identity in The Work of Artifice In the poem The Work of Artifice written by Marge Piercy, the motif of identity is dominant. The author describes the making of a bonsai tree and explains the gardener s point of view on it as it is pruned and cared for by him. Bonsai trees are usually versions of a normal tree that are hindered in growth and kept miniature for the sole purpose of visual pleasure. They require regular pruning and an extensive amount of work by the gardener so they can grow properly. The Bonsai tree is tied into the poem extremely well by the author. This is stated by the author at the beginning of the poem when she says, eighty feet tall on the side of a mountain (lines 3 4). If the tree would have been fortunate enough to grow up in the wild, it could have grown to the height of at least eighty feet tall and would have been on the side of a mountain where its roots could span the entire mountainside instead of only a few square inches inside of the bonsai pot. This description could easily be related back to a child being raised. A child could have easily had the potential to change the world; however, if they are not cared for in the right way and allowed to reach their own limits, they will be restricted and forced to be what their caretakers allow them to be. This could also be a metaphor for a marriage. The wife being the Bonsai tree and the husband being the gardener. For example, the suffragettes started a movement in 1920 which changed the public and private opinion allowing women to have the right to vote in western society. As long as a minority stick by four basic rules then they stand a good chance of succeeding in their campaign. They need to be Consistent in their views, Flexible not too rigid in their views, Committed to the cause until it s heard and Relevant, they have more chance of being influential if their views are in line with social trends. Another experiment that psychologists use in respect of conformity and obedience is an experiment that was carried out by a psychologist named Stanley Milgram. • 17. Explain The Sliding Filament Theory Of Muscle Action The sliding filament theory of a muscle action has five phases. The first phase is resting. In this phase there is no calcium available to bind the myosin to the actin. This is the normal state of the muscle until activated by the excitatory phase. During this second phase, the sarcoplasmic reticulum becomes stimulated. This releases calcium ions and binds with troponin. This is a protein that is strung along the actin filaments. Tropomyosin runs along the actin filaments. The actin is pulled closer to the sarcomere. The contraction phase is when it gets interesting. ATP is broken down into ADP in order to create energy for the contraction. To return to the normal state of the muscle, ATP replaces ADP and aids in detachment of the myosin cross ... • 19. Colonialism In Africa By the 1960, most of Africa had become independent from colonial powers who reluctantly gave them freedom after wars that were gory and unpleasant. Africa had started to build or put together a government that could hopefully unify the country. African had presidents, dictators, etc. But did Africa ever really gain independence? Based on who you ask, you will get an answer that can be separated into different groups, one group will tell you yes and others will say no. At the end of colonialism there was never a shift in society in Africa. If you look at the current GDP of most African countries, the growth of the economy, and then peer at the amount of debt they owe to the world bank then one can see that things have not changed since the end of colonialism. Africa shifted from colonialism to post colonialism, however Europe never left Africa formally. And Africa never really pushed for them to leave due to the structure of colonialism. For instance, when Congo had gained political independence from Belgium, there were only 16 college graduates in the whole country. Colonialism underdeveloped Africa, many of the people in Africa never gained an education. In addition, country lines were created in order for colonial powers to be able to exert control over a group of people that it had just defeated. Before colonialism, Africans had city states as opposed to nation states. The economy in Africa was primarily based on trade between people in the community. Consequently, when ... • 27. Exploring The Cost Of Hydraulic Fracturing Essay Exploring the Cost of Hydraulic Fracturing in Colorado: What are the potential effects of the Tres Rio 2016 Oil and Gas Lease/Sale on Montezuma County s public health, ecological communities, and economic stability? Introduction Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique often administered by oil and gas companies in order to create fissures within subsurface shale formations. After a site is established, the initial step entails breaking through the soil and stone via a bit placed at the end of a drill. As the drill moves through the rock layers, it utilizes air pressure to drive fragmented rocks to the surface. The drill ceases immediately after it comes into contact with the first indication of fresh water. Once the drill is removed, cement is incorporated into the drilled hole in an effort to prevent contamination of the water source and as a safety measure. Secondary steps require a perforated gun producing high magnitude electrical currents to be introduced down the wellbore (oil field terminology pertaining to a hole generated from oil/gas exploration), helping drive holes into the cement and ultimately enabling a channel for gas flow. The gun is then removed. Under high pressure, the drill pumps a solution of water, sand, and chemicals into the established site, allowing the gas (methane) to be released and stored. Finally, a pipeline constructed from the storage space to the consumer market supplies the gas as an energy source. Radioactive waste water also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To save your time though I will answer it for you. Hegemony is defined as, the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group (Merriam Webster). Western hegemony is the west exerting hegemony on the east. This has been an ongoing theme for some time now. The west is considered more advanced or better than other countries. This is in the heads of the people of the east at all times as they compare themselves to the west. In An Antique Land is a book written by an Indian writer, Amitav Ghosh, in the year of 1992. The book has two main stories throughout it. This provides for a very interesting read. It goes back and forth between Ghosh and his anthropological adventure in Egypt and in ancient documents covering Ben Yuji and his slave Bomma that were alive in the 12th century. Ghosh switches the views usually through different chapters and it is easy to follow from where he left off from each side. Evolution is defined as a process that results in heritable changes in a population spread over many generations (8).Scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on scientific evidence that corroborates the theory of evolution. In Figure 1 the pictures of the skulls depict the sequence of the evolution of Homo sapiens. As the figure shows, man has evolved from our common ancestor that is shared by homo sapiens. The change of diet of homo sapiens over time has thought to contribute to the change in jaw structure and overall skull shape. The process of evolution comprises of many complex of mechanisms. These mechanisms fundamentally allow the progression of speciation and adaptation to occur. There are 4 common kinds of evolutionary mechanism of change: Natural Selection, Genetic Drift, Mutation and Migration. Natural selection is based on the concept survival of the fittest where the most favourable individual best suited in the environment survive and pass on their genes for the next generation. Those individual who are less suited to the environment will die. Another mechanism is a hereditable type of evolution is mutations. Mutations are alterations to a gene.
