Capstone Of Reflection
Reflecting on the Journey
Throughout my two semesters in CommSkills 1015 and 1016, I have learned a lot,
and developed academically. The countless essays and speeches have helped me to
become a better writer, and speaker. Prior to my time in CommSkills, I would write
without a goal. I would sit down and words would go down on paper, but they never
truly accomplished the goals that I had while writing. Through attention to MAP,
attention to detail and practice I have come a long way. The Integrative Learning
Rubric is a way of measuring how well students can use the knowledge they acquire
from their studies in real life. Throughout my year in CommSkills, I have greatly
developed my ability to reflect and self assess. When I started at Virginia... Show

It is also important that you are able to see these strengths and weaknesses in aspects
of your life outside of writing papers and speeches. Once I realized why I struggled
with procrastination, I was able to take advantage of it. I knew that I would always
prefer to be doing something active so I used this knowledge to get a lot of hours
in volunteering with the Special Olympics. Instead of procrastinating by going for
a run or to the gym, I went to special olympics events on tuesdays and thursdays. I
was not required to do more than ten hours of service work for class, but once I
started I truly could not stop. I loved and still love, taking the time to support
people with disabilities, but it did not only help them. I always leave Special
Olympics events with a refreshed perspective on life. It puts into perspective both
your happiness and the daily struggles we all face. If my friends at Special Olympics
bowling can come every week with a smile on their face and put their best foot
forward, so can I. We all face our own problems in life and working with the Special
Olympics always redefines my concept of what is possible and what is

ImpureAmerican, an Ambiguous American. In the 19th century, Texans used to say
that the reason Mexicans were so easily defeated in battle was because we were so
dilute, being neither pure Indian nor pure Spaniard. Yet, at the same time, Mexicans
used to say that Mexico, the country of my ancestry, joined two worlds, two
competing armies. JosГ© Vasconcelos, the Mexican educator and philosopher,
famously described Mexicans as la raza cГіsmica, the cosmic race. In Mexico what
one finds as early as the 18th century is a predominant population of mixed race
people. Also, once the slave had been freed in Mexico, the incidence of marriage
between Indian and African people there was greater than in any other country in the
Americas and has not been equaled since. Race mixture has not been a point of pride
in America. Americans speak more easily about diversity than we do about the fact
that I might marry your daughter; you might become we; we might become us.

Thomas Hobbes Argues That Reason Is Both A Cause Of
War
Thomas Hobbes argues that reason is both a cause of war and a cause of peace. It is
a cause of war because reason obeys the law of nature and human exercise the right
of nature rationally will inevitably lead everyone to war. It is a cause of peace
because the state of war is a bad place for everyone to function the law of their nature.
Thus reasonleads to a better but more vulnerable conditional state that is the state of
peace. In this paper, I will explain this dual role of reason in Hobbes theory. I will do
so by first explain what is the law of nature and what is the right of nature, and how
does reason obey the law of nature inevitably lead human to war. Then I will explain
the three rational laws that lead human to peace.... Show more content on

We fight to acquire what we desire, to defend what we have acquired or to acquire or
defend our reputation.
But in the states of war, we are not able to preserve our life well. Thus to preserve
one s life, reason makes human wants peace. The first law is saying: every man
ought to endeavor peace, as far as he has the hope of obtaining it, and when he can
t obtain it, that he may seek and use all help and advantages of war. Which means if
possible, peace is a choice of reason.
However, making peace requires everyone to lay down parts of his rights. Thus we
have the second law claiming that in the state of peace, a man is willing, when
others are willing too and when the man is still able to defense himself, to lay
down his right to all things and be content with so much liberty against other men,
as he would allow other men against himself. Hobbs believes the only way to make
peace is to lay down one s rights because as discussed in the previous part: retain the
right of nature inevitably leads to war. But one could only lay down his rights while
others are doing so as well because if he is the only one who is disarmed, he simply
made himself a prey to his armed competitors and will be taken advantage of, which
is not allowed by reason.
Things could go smoothly if two people sign a contract and lay down their rights
simultaneously. However, when they are signing a
Reflective Essay About Life
Do you ever hear a story and think to yourself, Wow I can t imagine what that family
/ person is going through, and then suddenly you find yourself stuck, trapped, broken,
in a tragedy you never thought would happen to YOU.
Well, if you said yes, me too.
Life is a strange thing, so unexpected, so random in some ways, but also so put
together. Everything that happens here on Earth happens for a reason. Every person
we encounter, every smile we give, every laugh we release, every second of this life
is relevant. YOU are relevant. Everything we do, everything we see, everything we
touch, has an impact on this world, and on us too.
One minute life will be so good, that in my opinion, it s scary. When life is good, I
often question when something else will happen that will throw me off my path. On
this specific day, April 13th 2013, I thoughtlife was good, better than it had been in a
while. Hardly any worries, hardly any obstacles to overcome. Little did I know, that
God knew I needed something to wake me up from my absence in Him. So, he
woke me right up. In fact, he woke up my whole family.
This night, changed my life. I would say for the better now, and that it all worked out
according to God s plan, but in that moment, my world came crashing down.
I received a phone call while dozing off at my friends house, celebrating her
birthday. A phone call that I never would have expected. My mom calling me late in

Role of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
Role of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
The inspector is an enigmatic character; playing one of the biggest parts in the drama.
He is described on his entrance as creating an impression of massiveness, solidity
and purposefulness. He is a man in his fifties, dressed in a plain darkish suit... He
speaks carefully, weightily, and has a disconcerting habit of looking hard at the
person he addresses before actually speaking. .
He works very systematically; he likes to deal with One Person and one line of

He leaves the family with the message We are responsible for each other and warns
them of the fire and blood and anguish that will result if they do not pay attention to
what he has taught them.
All this mystery suggests that the Inspector is not a real person. I think this is
where the pun on the name Google comes in. In my opinion, Priestly has used the
inspectors name in reference to the word ghoul , suggesting that the inspector is an
enigmatic, supernatural force of some kind. I also believe that the inspector could
represent something else; like an entity such as God, the world s conscience or even
Priestley s ideas and opinions on his 1912 society.
The Inspector himself adds drama to the play, he controls the pace and tension by
dealing with one line of enquiry at a time. Slowly the story of Eva s life is
unravelled, like in a whodunit . He is in command at the end of Act I and the start
of Act 2, and the end of Act 2 and the start of Act 3. Altogether he is a brooding,
inescapable presence, very much in control. He is very mysterious and seems to
know what is going to happen before it does. Because of this, he stands as the most
powerful, important person in the room, capable to manipulating the other people to
make them say and do what he wants.
There are hidden features in the play that expose certain dramatic features,

Swot Analysis for Walmart
SWOT Analysis for Walmart Fay Stewart MGT/521 February 1, 2012 Audrey
Ellison A SWOT analysis looks at the strengths and weaknesses of a company and the
opportunities and threats. When used in business it can help a company carve a
sustainable niche in the market. A SWOT analysis can be a powerful tool that can
assist a company in uncovering opportunities that they can exploit. If a company can
comprehend their weaknesses they can then manage and eliminate threats that would
otherwise have caught them off guard. By a company looking at themselves and their
competitors and using this tool, a company can come up with a strategy that will set
them apart from their competitors. Background Sam Walton had a dream of being

To maintain constant low prices the products must be purchased in bulk and this can
harm the revenue. Many time products fail in the market and they can be stuck with
large amounts of product that will now move slow and take up space in their
distribution centers. Another often mentioned weakness is that they tend to keep
more part time employees than they do full time. The part time employees are paid
and low wage and are offered no incentives, this leads to large turnover rates.
Walmart has had many labor relations issues that include being sued by employees
for being gender biased. The company s top management is held by few women and
minorities. They have tried to rectify this problem, but females and minorities getting
promoted to manager positions remain issues for the company. The company does
not believe or want a labor union; this can give the perception that the company treats
employees poorly. The image this may cast can deter a person to apply for
employment. Opportunities The opportunities for the SWOT analysis of Walmart
end only where their resourcefulness ends. Walmart needs to focus on the future and
develop their insight. The people and other businesses need to know and understand
that they are not coming into their community to destroy the local businesses. The
American consumer is driven by cost and that is now starting to change. People in
America notice the bigger picture and Walmart needs to start endorsing optimistic
ideals.
Muscular Endurance Research Paper
Muscular endurance is the capability to move one s part of the body repeatedly
without being affected by fatigue. People who participate in games that require
having to sustain or repeatedly do an action for a long period of time need to have
good muscular endurance in order to be successful and do what they need to do in
order to win without becoming weary. Badminton players will need to have a high
degree of muscular endurance in order to maintain a good performance throughout
the whole match, which may last for about 45 to 75 minutes. Without great Muscular
endurance, players will become tired easily and therefore their shots become less
accurate. This will affect the quality of their shots as well as the quality of their
performance and
The Importance Of My Classroom
For the past decade, I have taught in one of the smaller classrooms in my school.
Nestled into a central hallway, the classroom sees a lot of traffic and is
conveniently located near the Special Education office that houses a printer that I
can pillage from in a pinch. Being an older classroom with original vents and
windows that look directly into windows of another classroom, the room is not
without its rustic charms (And by charms, I mean dust. An abounding amount of
DUST). Nevertheless, I love this little classroom and the memories that have been
created with my students and speechies through the years. This year, my husband
also purchased a portable air purifier for, which significantly improved my ability to
breathe through allergy season. Why didn t I think of that years ago?
To compensate for the tightness that a small room can exude when 26+ seniors are
packed into small desks with no air conditioning on an almost summer day, a few
years back I asked my awesome and supportive assistant principal if I could have the
custodians remove my teacher desk. In its place, I was given a narrow table on
wheels on which I could rest my computer and sit in the early morning before the
start of a school day. I also stocked supplies into a small three drawer contains to
house school supplies that my colleagues who also shared the room could use. I even
started stashing paperclips and pens in a speech team trophy another cause to chuckle

Effective communication can be in non verbal, verbal or written form. There are
several factors that the sender of the message has to take into consideration and
understand in order for that to happen: understand what they are trying to convey,
the audience receiving the message and how the audience will perceive the
message. New Field Grade officers will be assigned to levels in the Army and DoD
that they have not been accustomed to working at while they were Company Gade
officers. Some will have direct daily contact with General officers. Others will be
assigned to Joint assignments where the terminology they are accustomed to will
seem like a foreign language to others. An example of understanding the audience
that is receiving the message would be to take the simple phrase secure the building
as understood by member of different services:
The Army will post guards around the place.
The Navy will turn out the lights and lock the doors.
The Marines will kill everybody inside and set up a headquarters
The Air Force will take out a 5 year lease with an option to buy.2 Although the
above example is intended to be humorous it directly proves the point that different
branches of service have different meanings for the same word and/or phrase. This
is why it is imperative for senders of a message to understand their audience and
know how their audience will perceive a message.

We also provide evidence on management s exercise of discretion over the entire
earnings distribution rather than only in the area immediately around zero. The
magnitude and frequency of earnings management is of significant interest to
standard setters and regulators, but existing research provides little relevant evidence
(Healy and Wahlen, 1999; Dechow and Skinner, 2000). Our analysis indicates that
earnings management occurs across the entire distribution of reported earnings, with
earnings management by small profit firms accounting for only a fraction of
total earnings management activity. Specifically, we find that the least
profitable firms understate reserves relative to the most profitable firms.
This evidence is consistent with P C п¬Ѓrms managing loss reserves to smooth
earnings rather than to take an earnings bath. Our second research objective is to
examine the effect of ownership form and п¬Ѓnancial condition on management of
the loss reserve accrual and the distribution of earnings. Because the extent of owner
manager and owner policyholder conflicts varies across public, private, and mutual
insurers (Mayers and Smith, 1988, 1994), incentives to manage earnings are also
likely to vary.1 For public and mutual insurers, we find that small profit firms
significantly understate loss reserves relative Concurrent research by Beatty et al.

There is encouragement to congregants to get involved with Bible studies, small
groups, reading the Bible, praying, and more ( 2011 Summary Report ). This
concept is moving in tremendous ways due to the congregants having a choice to
take actions with their faith. It is also known that with having bigger Churches, there
is a higher demand for volunteers. And along with the need for volunteers, and the
more contemporary feel, there are more opportunities to serve. Serving is
encouraged but not required, giving the congregants freedom to chose (Got
questions). The mission to reach others for Christ, in Megachurches has advanced
from individually speaking to reaching brothers and sisters of Christ locally and

His Everlasting Moment of Intimacy Essay
In the widely acclaimed novel Catching Fire , the fictional character Peeta Mellark is
quoted as saying, I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in
it forever. (Collins). Coincidentally, that is what the unnamed lover in Robert
Browning s dramatic monologue Porphyria s Lover aspires to achieve when he
murders his beloved Porphyria, in hopes of preserving their intimate moment for
eternity. At the start of the poem, Browning seemingly shows his audience a loving,
romantic scene of Porphyria affectionately tending her inert beau. As the dramatic
monologueprogresses, it is learned that the originally envisioned romantic love story
has transformed into a disturbing tale of a cruel lover s massacre of his... Show more

He does this when he refers to Porphyria in a peculiarly different way after she has
died: The smiling rosy little head, / So glad it has its utmost will, / And I, its love,
am gained instead! (52 53, 55). The persona, through synecdoche, addresses his
dead lover as only a head and continues to objectify her by calling her it . The
speaker s objectification of his beloved shows how he only views Porphyria as an
object that he owns a mere possession. He also stresses about how Porphyria has
gained him, when in actuality what he really means is that now he finally owns her
forever. This clearly illustrates his outrageous and crazy way of thinking as he
fulfills his never ending moment with Porphyria by murdering her, and diminishes
her later into a simple possession that he could do whatever he wishes to do with.
Therefore, Browning makes use of adept word choices in order to display the
persona s extreme possessiveness and irrationality. In addition, Browning blatantly
uses imagery to convey the persona s deliriousness, and obsessiveness towards his
lover. In the poem, Browning noticeably visualizes the events that have just occurred
in the monologue, while at the same time he effectively illustrates the underlying
meaning behind its imagery to reveal the persona s nature. It is visualized in the
piece, Blushed bright beneath my burning kiss; (48). If

Loose Animal Laws
Dogs remain one of the friendliest and most beloved animals to humans, but despite
their ability to sustain a lovable reputation, dogs do not possess the ability to realize
the ramifications of their actions. Homes built in the rural area are built fenceless,
giving dogs a literal doorway to run loose because the owner chooses not to enclose
their property. Loose dogs must be properly restrained because they cause
neighborhood nuisances, contaminate property, and above all violate animal laws.
Dogs are not born to live in an enclosed house, they deserve to freely run in open
space and relish the taste of freedom. While that fact remains an important part of
making a happier dog, the fact of having consideration and respect for others also
remains crucial. Construction sites for new homes aren t a rare site in developing
neighborhoods. A neighbor s loose dog disrupted some builders at work by playing

plan to attract 2,000 more residents over the next five years, to help grow the
territory s economy. ( N.W.T. Aims to Attract 2,000 to Territory1 ) This plan seems
to have very good promise since there is a lot to be attracted to in the Northwest
Territories. Aside form the cold temperatures there is a surplus of job opening and
offering, there is plenty of land and space, resources have yet to be exploited and
as mentioned before there are the northern lights and plenty of adventurous
activities. The government hopes that at least 20% of the 2000 residents will be
students who leave the territory for post secondary education coming back to live
and work. ( With Population Shrinking 1) The government also has hopes to
improve its immigrant nominee program ( With Population Shrinking 1), which
will help eliminate fly in/fly out workers. The potential for economic growth is
very promising. In a time where a good portion of economies are taking a hit, this
is the perfect opportunity for people to move and take advantage of the Northwest
territories small population and weak economy. Many people struggle to find jobs
and if they move there is a good chance they could land their dream job instead of a
fall back dream. For example, in the article With Population Shrinking, Canada s

The Pros And Cons Of Football
What is football? Football is a sport where you can shine and show your potential
talent. For most people football is not just a game; it is more than that, it is a job
as much as it is a lifestyle. For most athletes, when you step out onto the field you
forget what is really going on in your life. However, for a professional quarterback,
you cannot just forget about the world and play the sport. The quarterback has many
responsibilities since they are the most valuable player on the field, so they cannot
lose their mind in the chaos of the game. Being a quarterback is already a hard
role, which is why there are limited amount of great quarterbacks in the National
Football League. There are many great quarterbacks in the spotlight, which is why
they get all the blame for the wrongdoing. However, out of all the quarterbacks in the
National Football League, the real question is which can prove himself to be the best

Comparative Analysis of La Belle Dame Sans Merci and The Lovesong of J.
Alfred Prufrock It comes as no surprise that love poems are not a rare commodity.
Whether they re about a lovesick man pining for his soul mate or a general reflection
about how one perceives love, these poems offer an analysis of one of the most
innate desires of our human nature. Despite inevitable differences in writing style
and point of view, there can be times where love poems employ similar strategies to
tackle such an analysis. John Keats La Belle Dame Sans Merci and T. S. Eliot s The
Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock are no exception to this occurrence. Both poems use

13, 25 26). Because of how the knight describes the meadow, it can be inferred that
it is springtime. This is a significant contrast to the bleak, wintry hillside that he
described previously. With the contrast in this setting comes a contrast in how the
knight characterizes love. In the meadow, the knight meets a beautiful woman
with long hair and wild eyes. The knight describes her as having an almost fairy
like presence (Ln. 14 16). He makes her a garland for her head and bracelets from
the flowers in the meadow (Ln. 17 20). The woman eventually takes the knight
back to her elfin grot , or, cave, where he kisses her. By establishing a different
setting where the knight appears to experience love, the second setting in La Belle
Dame Sans Merci serves to resolve the knight s alienation and abandonment from
love. T.S. Eliot s The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock similarly offers a second
setting where Prufrock tries to recall love to resolve his alienation from it. The
dirty, urban, insidious streets laced with an ominous yellow fog suggest that
Prufrock is alienated from love. He fears not being able to find a woman that will be
able to look past his physical inadequacies. However, Prufrock attempts to resolve his
alienation by shifting the setting from the insidious streets of a city to the beach. The

After a time, the existence of subnormal profits would cause firms to leave the
industry. Supply would fall and prices rise. Hence long run equilibrium is one of
normal profits only.
Perfect Competition Long Run
[pic]
Advantages of perfect competition
Because firms produce where MC=MR=Price, allocative efficiency is achieved.
Productive efficiency is also achieved because the firm produces at the lowest point
of the AC curve.
Prices are lower because of increased competition.
Because of perfect knowledge firms must keep up to date and innovate or they will
be forced to leave the industry.
In the long run all firms will earn normal profits.
Cartels and other restrictive agreements cannot emerge to exploit consumers.
Perfect competition can be used as a model in economic analysis.
Disadvantages of perfect competition
Firms have little time to benefit from inventions because they quickly enter the public
domain.
Since firms make only normal profits they might not have the funds to undertake
expensive research that often yields the most outstanding discoveries.
Firms might not benefit from economies of large scale production.
In order to prevent abuse of the consumer, some industries are best run by the state as
natural monopolies and so perfect competition would be inappropriate.
Perfect competition is a goal that cannot be reached in the real world.

Essay on Apostolic Ministry in Rome
Apostolic Ministry in Rome
According to tradition, there are two apostles who ministered in Rome. While some
modern scholars question whether the Apostle Peter was ever in Rome, he is
certainly the most celebrated Apostle of the city. A simple example of this is that the
largest basilica in Rome (and one of the largest in the world) is named in honor of
Saint Peter. The Apostle Pauls existence in Rome is less disputed and even though he
is less commemorated nearly two millennia later. The circumstances surrounding
Peter and Paul s arrivals in Rome, their ministries in Rome, and their deaths are worth
examining since these two figures are still remembered nearly two millennia after
their ministries in Rome.

Design Of Vehicles Based On Changing Pinion Over The

Design of vehicles based on changing pinion over the rack steering mechanism
Abstract In this paper, the results of the work on the development and implementation
of steering mechanism is presented. The proposed approach is to construct a vehicle
with 90 degrees turning wheels through changing pinion over the rack steering
mechanism. The steering mechanism uses rack and pinion in defined gear ratios.
The most conventional and general steering arrangement is to turn the front wheels
using a hand operated steering wheel which is positioned in front of the Driver. The
steering column, which contain an universal joint which is part of the collapsible
steering column which is designed to allow it to deviate from a straight line according

While for rotating the wheel, they used two separate Geared motors.
Convertible four wheel steering with three mode operation This concept was
based on insertion and removal of lock nuts consisting of a steering setup, spur
gears, bevel gears. The three modes were Front wheel steer, Both front and rear
wheel steer in same direction ,Both wheels in opposite direction. When the lock nut
is removed, the steering operation is carried out in normal condition. That is only
front wheels steer. But when the lock nut is inserted, the other two modes can be
used. When the gear arrangement is pushed to one position, the spur gears get
engaged and the steering of rear wheel is ensured and is in same direction as that of
the front wheels. When the gear arrangement is moved to other side, the spur gear
disengages and the bevel gear gets engaged. Due to bevel gear arrangement, the rear
wheel steers in opposite direction to the front wheel. This results in third mode
steering.
Linkage based steering mechanism Linkages are employed to transmit steering from
steering wheel to wheels, Here a set of diagonal wheels are selected in which power
and steering both systems are attached.
In our project Design of vehicles based on changing pinion over the rack steering
mechanism we are using separate mechanisms for transmitting of power and steering
the vehicle and there will be two modes of operation.

successive years, beginning with 1912, there had been a continuous decrease in the
number of children sent to institutions. For instance, in 1912, 1913, 1914, 1915 and

Essay The Effectiveness of the Five Year Plans
The Effectiveness of the Five Year Plans
Stalin introduced the Five Year Plans. This brought all industry under state control
and all industrial development was planned by the state. The state would decide
what would be produced, how much would be produced and where it should be
produced. An organisation called Gosplan was created to plan all this out.
В· The first five year plan was from 1928 to 1932.
В· The second five year plan was from 1933 to 1937.
В· The third five year plan was from 1938 to 1941 when the war interrupted it.

Factories decided to inflating their production figures and the products produced
were frequently so poor that they could not be used, even if the factory producing
those goods appeared to be meeting its target. The punishment for failure was severe.
A manager could be executed as an enemy of the people . Workers could be sent to a
prison camp in Siberia. Nobody was allowed to criticise the five year plans as they
were Stalin s idea.
Life was very hard for industrial workers. Their pay was poor and there was barely
anything they could spend their money on even if they had any. Consumer goods
were not produced. Working conditions were very poor and dangerous and the hours
were long. The homes that were provided were poor.
They often worked hard because the young workers were still idealistic and
dreaming. The concept of communism was still making them believe. They called
Stalin Uncle Joe and they were willing to suffer a few years of hardship if they were
going to get to the promised land of a better society.

Chicago Meatpacking History
History of the Back of the Yards
Running from west Pershing Road, around south Western Avenue, west Garfield
Boulevard, and ending at the intersection with south Halsted Street and west Pershing
Road lies the neighborhood, New City, also known as the Back of the Yards.
Canaryville is also another neighborhood that lies within New City.
The establishment of the Union Stock Yardsin 1865 led to the expansion of
meatpacking in southside Chicago. Before private stock yards were created, tavern
owners provided land and care for cattle herds waiting to be sold. With the
increasing service of railroads throughout the United States, small stockyards were
created in and around the city of Chicago. Chicago became the largest railroad center
in the world, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book described the horrifying conditions in the stockyards and meatpacking
industry. The story depicts a young man and woman who have recently
immigrated to Chicago from Lithuania. They have a wedding feast at a bar in
Packingown. The couple and some of their relatives go to Chicago for a better life
but Packingtown, the center of the city s meatpacking industry, is dangerous,
filthy, and hard. It was also difficult to find a job. The couple become a hundred
dollars in debt to the saloonkeeper and Jurgis has faith in the American dream that
he could just work harder to make more money. They go through struggles with
hard laboring jobs such as digging freight tunnels (which resulting in him going to
the hospital), getting arrested because of attacking a man for not giving him
correct change, he starts to commit crimes such as burglaries and soon gets
recruited to work for a corrupt political boss. His spirit soon gets crushed by misery
and wanders into a socialist political rally which fills Jurgis with inspiration
through a speech. He finds a job as a porter at a socialist run hotel and later reunites
with wife. This story is filled with signs of corruption and immorality. A big symbol
in this story was the animals and slaughterhouses of Packingtown which represent the
working class. Just like the animals were killed with impunity, made to suffer and
had no choice about their fate, so were thousands of immigrant workers who lived in
poverty. They were forced into capitalism. Waves of animals pass through
Packingtown, just as the generations of immigrants continue to eventually be
replaced by a new
Saussure s Five Objects To Build-A-Bear
As we go on with our regular and daily routines, we pass by objects that are essential
to us and our environment. These assortment of objects are not only functional but
represent ideas that channel to our needs and wants. Throughout my day, I have
encountered five objects that stand out to me. The first object is lipstick. Because after
I brush my teeth and dress up, I want to put on makeup. All my lipsticks are shaped
similarly with their black bullet like container and adjustable rolling bottom. Each
of these colored sticks push out a different shade of red wax and each have different
consistencies of the product. The form of this beauty product is small, portable and
full of pigment, which relates to Saussure s idea of the signifier. Saussure... Show

It is fifteen years old and wears a red plaid sweater. It was given to me as a gift
from the store Build a Bear and is the original mascot of the store, which makes it
easily recognizable and iconic. The form of my teddy bear is familiar because it is
a big brown bear covered faux fur with big watery plastic eyes and a soothing
smile. It is soft to the touch. Just looking at it brings you back to your childhood
and hugging it completely relieves you. The signifier of this toy is that it is a
caricatured and simplified version of brown bear made of materials such as
plastic, fabric and thread. It has no functional use. The signified form of my teddy
bear is that although it serves no real purpose, it is needed in my life because I
believe it helps me sleep. This soft toy in the shape of a brown bear is essential
because it s a symbol of childhood and innocence. This idea of purity is often
hailed and celebrated through films, music, media and literature. In a form of a soft
centered toy, it symbolizes love, sympathy and celebration. The variety of teddy
bears can be seen through history and through shop windows, which show the depth
of how common these toys have become in our world. It s so common and
constantly demanded that it has been an industry since the 20th century. The teddy
bear is a good design because of it s good image, it channels happiness and comfort to

Assignment On The Kite Runner
Rationale
Khaled Hosseini is the author of the book Kite Runner which was published on 29th
May 2003. The book Kite Runner revolves around the life of Amir, a young boy
from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul and his closest friend, Hassan. The story
is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of Afghanistan s
monarchy through the Soviet military intervention, the exodus of refugees to
Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime.
My Written Assignment will be a Diary entry. I think that choosing such type of text
will help me to view a situation from different perspective or one s perspective. My
written assignment is written from Hassan s point of view because I think that

My Father, Ali and I live at the bottom of Amir and Baba s garden. We are his
servants, but are more like brothers. By the time Amir is out of bed, I ve washed
up, prayed and made breakfast. I then do all the housework and get Amir ready for
school. I ve grown up with Amir. I always defend Amir when neighbours try to
threaten him. Amir believes me a lot. My loyalty is unbendable. I am a Shi a
Muslim. My mother ran off with a clan of travelling singers and dancers. I never
knew her. And it seems she never wanted to know me.
In the winter of that year, 1975, the tournament is held in Amir s neighbourhood.
Usually each neighbourhood has its own competition, but the nearby districts will
compete together this time. A few days before the tournament, Amir s father casually
told Amir that he may win the tournament. An overwhelming desire to win seizes
Amir as Amir thinks this will earn him Baba s approval. The day of the competition
comes. The tournament lasts all day, and Amir is doing well. Amir can see Baba
sitting on a rooftop, watching. Eventually all that remain are Amir s kite and one
other, a blue kite. We have fought and Amir won the tournament, sending the blue
kite flying loose. Amir and me cheer and hug, but Amir sees Baba motioning for them

Technology Plan Design
Introduction: Technology Plan Design A technology plan should set the direction for
the future use of technology as a tool for assisting School District in attaining their
vision, mission, and goals. As noted by Picciano (2011), planning should include a
comprehensive approach to identifying needs, commitment to follow through with
action steps and resource acquisition, collaboration between internal and external
publics. The planshould also be a continuity between change and a connection to the
past that builds toward the futuredetailing objectives, rationale, strategies, and
measurements. This approach to planning assists in developing a technology plan
through minimizing risks by establishing basic evaluation criteria early in the process
(pp 20 25) such as identification of measurable goals and insuring that all
stakeholders are involved throughout the process. Knight (2011) and Senge (2001,
2012) recommend using a systems approach to planning and Picciano (2011) supports
this by describing an implementationmodel that defines, designs, develops and
disseminates technology in small incremental stages until satisfied that the
technology is meeting expected goals on a limited basis before implementing on a
larger scale (p. 25). Using a systems approach, a technology plan must identify
operational feasibility and is often best implemented through a pilot or phased in
process. While a technology plan can look excellent on paper, identifying needs,

The countless essays and speeches have helped me to become a better writer, and speaker. Prior to my time in CommSkills, I would write without a goal. I would sit down and words would go down on paper, but they never truly accomplished the goals that I had while writing. Through attention to MAP, attention to detail and practice I have come a long way. The Integrative Learning Rubric is a way of measuring how well students can use the knowledge they acquire from their studies in real life. You might wonder about the complexity of historical factors, the collision of centuries, that creates Richard Rodriguez. My brownness is the illustration of that collision, or the bland memorial of it. I stand before you as an ImpureAmerican, an Ambiguous American. In the 19th century, Texans used to say that the reason Mexicans were so easily defeated in battle was because we were so dilute, being neither pure Indian nor pure Spaniard. Yet, at the same time, Mexicans used to say that Mexico, the country of my ancestry, joined two worlds, two competing armies. JosГ© Vasconcelos, the Mexican educator and philosopher, famously described Mexicans as la raza cГіsmica, the cosmic race. In Mexico what one finds as early as the 18th century is a predominant population of mixed race people. Also, once the slave had been freed in Mexico, the incidence of marriage between Indian and African people there was greater than in any other country in the Americas and has not been equaled since. Race mixture has not been a point of pride in America. Americans speak more easily about diversity than we do about the fact that I might marry your daughter; you might become we; we might become us. America has so readily

  • 5. Thomas Hobbes Argues That Reason Is Both A Cause Of War Thomas Hobbes argues that reason is both a cause of war and a cause of peace. It is a cause of war because reason obeys the law of nature and human exercise the right of nature rationally will inevitably lead everyone to war. It is a cause of peace because the state of war is a bad place for everyone to function the law of their nature. Thus reasonleads to a better but more vulnerable conditional state that is the state of peace. In this paper, I will explain this dual role of reason in Hobbes theory. We fight to acquire what we desire, to defend what we have acquired or to acquire or defend our reputation. But in the states of war, we are not able to preserve our life well. Thus to preserve one s life, reason makes human wants peace. The first law is saying: every man ought to endeavor peace, as far as he has the hope of obtaining it, and when he can t obtain it, that he may seek and use all help and advantages of war. Which means if possible, peace is a choice of reason. However, making peace requires everyone to lay down parts of his rights. Thus we have the second law claiming that in the state of peace, a man is willing, when others are willing too and when the man is still able to defense himself, to lay down his right to all things and be content with so much liberty against other men, as he would allow other men against himself. Hobbs believes the only way to make peace is to lay down one s rights because as discussed in the previous part: retain the right of nature inevitably leads to war. But one could only lay down his rights while others are doing so as well because if he is the only one who is disarmed, he simply made himself a prey to his armed competitors and will be taken advantage of, which is not allowed by reason. Things could go smoothly if two people sign a contract and lay down their rights simultaneously. However, when they are signing a

Well, if you said yes, me too. Life is a strange thing, so unexpected, so random in some ways, but also so put together. Everything that happens here on Earth happens for a reason. Every person we encounter, every smile we give, every laugh we release, every second of this life is relevant. YOU are relevant. Everything we do, everything we see, everything we touch, has an impact on this world, and on us too. One minute life will be so good, that in my opinion, it s scary. When life is good, I often question when something else will happen that will throw me off my path. On this specific day, April 13th 2013, I thoughtlife was good, better than it had been in a while. Hardly any worries, hardly any obstacles to overcome. Little did I know, that God knew I needed something to wake me up from my absence in Him. So, he woke me right up. In fact, he woke up my whole family. This night, changed my life. I would say for the better now, and that it all worked out according to God s plan, but in that moment, my world came crashing down. All this mystery suggests that the Inspector is not a real person. I think this is where the pun on the name Google comes in. In my opinion, Priestly has used the inspectors name in reference to the word ghoul , suggesting that the inspector is an enigmatic, supernatural force of some kind. I also believe that the inspector could represent something else; like an entity such as God, the world s conscience or even Priestley s ideas and opinions on his 1912 society. The Inspector himself adds drama to the play, he controls the pace and tension by dealing with one line of enquiry at a time. Slowly the story of Eva s life is unravelled, like in a whodunit . He is in command at the end of Act I and the start of Act 2, and the end of Act 2 and the start of Act 3. Altogether he is a brooding, inescapable presence, very much in control. He is very mysterious and seems to know what is going to happen before it does. Because of this, he stands as the most powerful, important person in the room, capable to manipulating the other people to make them say and do what he wants. Many time products fail in the market and they can be stuck with large amounts of product that will now move slow and take up space in their distribution centers. Another often mentioned weakness is that they tend to keep more part time employees than they do full time. The part time employees are paid and low wage and are offered no incentives, this leads to large turnover rates. Walmart has had many labor relations issues that include being sued by employees for being gender biased. The company s top management is held by few women and minorities. They have tried to rectify this problem, but females and minorities getting promoted to manager positions remain issues for the company. The company does not believe or want a labor union; this can give the perception that the company treats employees poorly. The image this may cast can deter a person to apply for employment. Opportunities The opportunities for the SWOT analysis of Walmart end only where their resourcefulness ends. Walmart needs to focus on the future and develop their insight. The people and other businesses need to know and understand that they are not coming into their community to destroy the local businesses. The American consumer is driven by cost and that is now starting to change. People in America notice the bigger picture and Walmart needs to start endorsing optimistic ideals.

New Field Grade officers will be assigned to levels in the Army and DoD that they have not been accustomed to working at while they were Company Gade officers. The magnitude and frequency of earnings management is of significant interest to standard setters and regulators, but existing research provides little relevant evidence (Healy and Wahlen, 1999; Dechow and Skinner, 2000). Our analysis indicates that earnings management occurs across the entire distribution of reported earnings, with earnings management by small profit firms accounting for only a fraction of total earnings management activity. Coincidentally, that is what the unnamed lover in Robert Browning s dramatic monologue Porphyria s Lover aspires to achieve when he murders his beloved Porphyria, in hopes of preserving their intimate moment for eternity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does this when he refers to Porphyria in a peculiarly different way after she has died: The smiling rosy little head, / So glad it has its utmost will, / And I, its love, am gained instead! (52 53, 55). The persona, through synecdoche, addresses his dead lover as only a head and continues to objectify her by calling her it . The speaker s objectification of his beloved shows how he only views Porphyria as an object that he owns a mere possession. He also stresses about how Porphyria has gained him, when in actuality what he really means is that now he finally owns her forever. This clearly illustrates his outrageous and crazy way of thinking as he fulfills his never ending moment with Porphyria by murdering her, and diminishes her later into a simple possession that he could do whatever he wishes to do with. Therefore, Browning makes use of adept word choices in order to display the persona s extreme possessiveness and irrationality. In addition, Browning blatantly uses imagery to convey the persona s deliriousness, and obsessiveness towards his lover. In the poem, Browning noticeably visualizes the events that have just occurred in the monologue, while at the same time he effectively illustrates the underlying meaning behind its imagery to reveal the persona s nature. It is visualized in the piece, Blushed bright beneath my burning kiss; (48). If

With the contrast in this setting comes a contrast in how the knight characterizes love. In the meadow, the knight meets a beautiful woman with long hair and wild eyes. The knight describes her as having an almost fairy like presence (Ln. 14 16). He makes her a garland for her head and bracelets from the flowers in the meadow (Ln. 17 20). The woman eventually takes the knight back to her elfin grot , or, cave, where he kisses her. By establishing a different setting where the knight appears to experience love, the second setting in La Belle Dame Sans Merci serves to resolve the knight s alienation and abandonment from love. T.S. Eliot s The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock similarly offers a second setting where Prufrock tries to recall love to resolve his alienation from it. The dirty, urban, insidious streets laced with an ominous yellow fog suggest that Prufrock is alienated from love. The proposed approach is to construct a vehicle with 90 degrees turning wheels through changing pinion over the rack steering mechanism. The steering mechanism uses rack and pinion in defined gear ratios. The most conventional and general steering arrangement is to turn the front wheels using a hand operated steering wheel which is positioned in front of the Driver. Convertible four wheel steering with three mode operation This concept was based on insertion and removal of lock nuts consisting of a steering setup, spur gears, bevel gears. The three modes were Front wheel steer, Both front and rear wheel steer in same direction ,Both wheels in opposite direction. When the lock nut is removed, the steering operation is carried out in normal condition. That is only front wheels steer. But when the lock nut is inserted, the other two modes can be used. When the gear arrangement is pushed to one position, the spur gears get engaged and the steering of rear wheel is ensured and is in same direction as that of the front wheels. When the gear arrangement is moved to other side, the spur gear disengages and the bevel gear gets engaged. Due to bevel gear arrangement, the rear wheel steers in opposite direction to the front wheel. This results in third mode steering. Linkage based steering mechanism Linkages are employed to transmit steering from steering wheel to wheels, Here a set of diagonal wheels are selected in which power and steering both systems are attached. In our project Design of vehicles based on changing pinion over the rack steering mechanism we are using separate mechanisms for transmitting of power and steering the vehicle and there will be two modes of operation. Technology Plan Design Introduction: Technology Plan Design A technology plan should set the direction for the future use of technology as a tool for assisting School District in attaining their vision, mission, and goals. As noted by Picciano (2011), planning should include a comprehensive approach to identifying needs, commitment to follow through with action steps and resource acquisition, collaboration between internal and external publics. The planshould also be a continuity between change and a connection to the past that builds toward the futuredetailing objectives, rationale, strategies, and measurements. This approach to planning assists in developing a technology plan through minimizing risks by establishing basic evaluation criteria early in the process (pp 20 25) such as identification of measurable goals and insuring that all stakeholders are involved throughout the process. Knight (2011) and Senge (2001, 2012) recommend using a systems approach to planning and Picciano (2011) supports this by describing an implementationmodel that defines, designs, develops and disseminates technology in small incremental stages until satisfied that the technology is meeting expected goals on a limited basis before implementing on a larger scale (p. 25). Using a systems approach, a technology plan must identify operational feasibility and is often best implemented through a pilot or phased in process. While a technology plan can look excellent on paper, identifying needs,
