Research shows that there is a high correlation between poverty and educational outcomes. According
to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), there were approximately 20 percent of school
age children who were living in poverty ridden households in 2014 (NCES,2016). The quality of
education a student attains is associated with their parent s educational attainment and household
poverty status (NCES,2016). Children who live in poverty during their early childhood years have a
higher chance of attaining a lower level of academic performance, creating a readiness gap in schools.
The readiness gap begins in kindergarten and extends through elementary and high school,
contributing to lower rates of high school completion (NCES,2016). School readiness is defined as a
measure of how prepared a child is to succeed in school, cognitively, socially and emotionally, and it
separates the disadvantaged children from their more affluent peers (Attendance Works, 2016).

Conflict theory and labeling theory are two similar theories in the world of crime. It has been debated
whether or not there is a clear line separating the two theories. By evaluating the two theories, the
differences between them can become more obvious and it becomes easier to separate the two. In

crime. These theories focus more on a criminal s lifetime and how their criminal records have evolved

In the 1990s, Carlton Pearson was pastor of one of the largest churches in the nation. He regularly
drew 6,000 people a week to his services at Higher Dimensions Family Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In
1993, he married life coach Gina Pearson. Through the rest of the 90s, he had one of the most watched
shows on TBN, filled stadiums with his evangelical conferences, and was ordained a bishop. His
Azusa conferences alone would draw upwards of 50,000 people each year. Then he decided his beliefs
were all wrong, and, by 2002, the Oral Roberts University trained preacher changed those beliefs to
accept the doctrine of inclusion. The doctrine basically says that there is no satan or hell and God

overall a good one. One example was at the Assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina. The 54th

after brutal hand to hand fighting. The Negro faced some discrimination in the Union Army in areas

mainly positive, while the South did not want Negros to serve in the Confederate Army. It wasn t until
