Social Differences Of The European Way Of Life In Colonial...
Although undoubtedly influenced by England, the American Colonies formed their own unique way
of life. One aspect much like England is the layout of the town and its house, especially in Salem, was
rather haphazard with streets and alleys crossing at irregular angles. Unlike Europe, property
ownership was not the only way to ensure a fortune, a considerable number of Americans found New
Money through their occupation. The upset of wealth standards also led to the development of
different and more varied social groups and hierarchies. The different classes had different cuisine and
past times as well, with the higher class being more European in nature. Travel was an interesting
affair in America, with the land s rather extreme weather and the limited forms of transportation. Life
in Colonial America, and specifically Salem, was significantly different to that experienced in England
due to the difference in lodging, occupations, social groups, leisure, and environment.
Since there was less of a social divide between the colonist when they settled, most of the time the
poor and rich lived right next to each other, with no distinct neighborhoods. This led to a slight
reconciliation between the classes, drawing them together. The people were still aware of the status of
the elite, but they were no longer physically separated as they were in England. One method of
acknowledgement is that whenever a noteworthy family moved or built a house on a street, said street

Columbia Space Shuttle Program
It launched for the first time on mission STS 1 on April 12, 1981, the first flight of the Space Shuttle
program. Over 22 years of service it completed 27 missions before disintegrating during re entry near
the end of its 28th mission, STS 107 on February 1, 2003, resulting in the deaths of all seven crew
members.
History: Columbia was named after the American sloop Columbia Rediviva which, from 1787 to
1793, under the command of Captain Robert Gray, explored the US Pacific Northwest and became the
first American vessel to circumnavigate the globe. It is also named after the Command Module of
Apollo 11, the first manned landing on another celestial body. Columbia was also the female symbol
of the United States. After construction, the orbiter arrived at Kennedy Space Center on March 25,
1979, to prepare for its first launch. Columbia was originally scheduled to lift off in late 1979,

Letter To The Massachusetts Bay Colony By John Winthrop
In a letter written by John Winthrop he explains to a friend his vision of the settlement in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony. Winthrop discusses the difficulties in establishing a self governing and
self sustaining settlement as well as the conflicts the colonists amount to with the Indians.
Early New England s colony totaled to above 4,000 colonists. Winthrop describes them as all being in
good health and well provided of all necessarys: so hath not died about 2 or 3 grown persons . This
means that the colonists are overall healthy with only a few deaths. This is of much importance for
him to mention because it shows the well being of the colonists as well as the colony s capabilities of
providing good health. Winthrop furthers onto this idea of health by saying it being verye rare to heare
of any sick of agues or other diseases , meaning these diseases and sickness in New England are rare
which is also positive and advantageous. As far as supporting themselves goes, everyone makes a
contribution in different work fields. Winthrop says that this includes the ... Show more content on

Winthrop says the civil Government is mixt and all assist the magistrates making laws, imposing
taxes, and disposing of lands . Within this government our Churches are governed by Pastors,
Teachers ruling Elders and Deacons, yet the power lies in the whole Congregation . This means that
the Churches became the center for political social and order because the Puritans were very spiritual
and their beliefs were of much importance to them. This means that those Puritan colonists are very
much included because of this belief system, whereas the non puritans and natives are more excluded.
Winthrop mentions the natives towards the end when he says they are all dead of the smallpox

Capitalism Vs. Communism And Communism
Necati Ucev Mr. Raia Creative Writing 1 5 May 2015 Capitalism vs Communism Throughout history,
people have tested many different political systems have a better society. The most common political
systems that people have tested are monarchy, oligarchy, theocracy, aristocracy and democracy. I will
talk about capitalism and communism in this research paper. Both those systems are created to change
the economic situation. There have been a huge debate about Capitalism vs Communism. Throughout
this research paper, I am going to talk about how these different method works, advantages and
disadvantages that each of them creates Capitalism is an economic system with the right of a business
to make its own decision and operate with a profit motive and individual rights to possess and dispose
of goods, services, and resources . (1). The government who choose to use capitals system were
democratic. Adam Smith is from Scottish. He was one of the great philosopher during his time.
Because of his great work on capitalism, he is also known as the father of the capitalism. He published
a book named The Wealth of Nation in 1776.His book had so much influence on economic thinking at
that time and as well as at this time. The thesis of the book is The best way to increase the wealth of
nation is through individual decision making with minimal government interference (2). This quotes
simply states that in order to make richer and better society, there should be individual decision
making.

State Apparatuses By Antonio Gramsci
I have been for the most part skeptical about whether Louis Althusser s essay on state apparatuses
accomplishes anything not previously explained in more humanistic and less functionalist terms by
Antonio Gramsci. Indeed, although there appears to be a clear divergence between the two insofar as
Gramsci associates ideological work with civil society whereas Althusser locates it in the state, even
this distinction is not as stark in light of certain passages in Selections from the Prison Notebooks.
Gramsci s historically specific analysis of domination through hegemony simply seemed to me to
constitute a social theory that better accounts for contingency, agency, and change. After further
reflection, however, it also clear to me that we can improve upon it by incorporating Althusser s useful
references to materiality and production.
Before explaining Althusser s contribution to theories of ideology and the state, it is necessary to
review Gramsci s own writings on the topic, particularly since his definition of the state and its
functions varies a great deal within his fragmented notes from 1929 1936. The particular conception
with which Gramsci is perhaps most associated is found in State and Civil Society the dichotomous
title of which is highly suggestive in which he describes the state as the coercive and punitive force of
juridical regulation of a country. It was Gramsci s attention to ideological struggles in the voluntary
associations and private institutions of

Examples Of Ethical Issues In The Movie
6. Do you think the form of presentation of ethical issues in that art form a correct portrayal of the
ethical issue? Was it lost in details or made subtle, intangible and more convincing? 300 words.
The ethical issues manifest in the form of unintentional irony. Bruner remarks in the first half of the
movie that she is an agnostic, skeptical woman and does not believe in Father Moore s explanation of
the events that have transpired. Later on when she herself experiences some events that veer on the
threshold of the supernatural, she decides to prove to the court that Emily in fact was possessed by
demons. In the end, failing to produce adequate evidence, she manipulates the jury using Father
Moore s background and influences them further by invoking their faith, the faith that she has newly
discovered.
If the viewers find themselves engaging with the supernatural aspect of the film, they certainly miss
the ethical breach that Bruner commits. Because the viewer follows the movie only from the point of
view of either Bruner or Father Moore, they are oblivious to the manipulation that Bruner and Father
Moore execute throughout. The ethical issue is not presented as the central issue the use of religious
sentiments to sway the public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

right to life include, right to die. In Indian context, Supreme Court in the case of Gian Kaur v. State of

liberty and by no stretch of imagination can extinction of life be read to be included in protection of
life. Further, in State of Punjab v. M.S. Chawla (dated 17 December, 1996), it has been held that the
right to life guaranteed under Article 21 includes within its ambit the right to health and medical care

sociology in religion
A Critical Analysis of Putnam, Robert D., and David E. Campbell. American Grace: How Religion
Divides and Unites Us. New York: Simon Schuster, 2010. Print, pp 1 246
In a renowned examination to approach religion as a sociological study, respected scholars Robert D.
Putnam and David E. Campbell trek through the social history of our nation over the past few decades
and the affects that have consequently or thankfully been left on religious institutions. While the
authors explore detailed cultural developments, America s religiosity and diversity is examined
through comprehensive surveys and empirical analysis. As Putnam and Campbell search to uncover
the relationship between sociological developments and religious institutions, a ... Show more content

As society began to expand under this foundation, women became increasingly more respected and
their presence was accepted into various social realms that previously were not inviting for women.
On the list of newly acceptable places for women to thrive is the workplace, which is another affect of
the rise of women in religion according to our authors. Putnam and Campbell claim that these are
interrelated because it was a social change that happened simultaneously, but the authors continue by
giving little example to what sort of revolutionary changes happened to women inside of the churches.
This brings the validity of their conclusion regarding cultural development and religion to question:
did the authors uncover correlation, or are they over generalizing causation for the sake of the
argument? Other experts have questioned the correlation as well, as Wallstreet journalist Wilfred
McClay goes it say: In matters of sexuality, they offer a surprisingly crude formulation that reflects the
authors rather coercive brand of moderation: The polarization of the past five decades on sexual
matters has come about because libertines and prudes have successively provoked one another. If only
the sensible, nonextremist folks had been

The Seventh Seal Analysis
The Seventh Seal follows the knight, Antonius Block, his squire Jon, his actor friends Mia, Jof and
their son Michael, as well several other members of their acting troupe. Antonius and his squire have
just returned home from the Crusades, during which Antonius had become disenchanted with life and
began to feel abandoned by God. At the beginning of the film, the knight is met on a beach by Death
in the form of a man. Believing Death has come to kill him, Antonius challenges him to a game of
chess which continues throughout the film. Along the way home, Antonius befriends several members
of an acting troupe and invites them back to his castle in an attempt to save them from the plague
ravaging the country. In their travels, they meet the Flagellants, who march through towns in a group
whipping themselves in an attempt to repent for the sins they believe brought the plague on. Jof is the
only other character able to see the chess match with Death. Antonius intentionally distracts Death so
that Jof and his family may escape. However, Antonius loses the match in the next move. In the final
scene of the movie, Jof sees Death, the knight and his followers dancing in a field.
A central theme in The Seventh Seal is the ever looming presence of death in the lives of medieval
Europeans. The characters in The Seventh Seal are all presented with the reality of their mortality as
they face the horrors of the plague spreading throughout the country. In the movie, Death is embodied

Significance Of The Number Seven In Poetry
Before being used by human beings as scientific symbols, the numbers played a symbolic and
mythological role in human life. The connection between the life of the primitive man with the
numbers has certainly been more, if not less, than today. In the current study, the number 7 has been
considered as one of the most efficient mythological symbols and archetypes in the contemporary
poetry to investigate into the role of this mythological number in the perspective of contemporary
poets. The number seven is a symbol of perfection and a combination of three and four. Three is a
symbol of female and four is a symbol of male and that s why it has drawn a lot of attention. Many of
the symbolic and ancient roles of this number are still used in the subconscious of today s human
beings. The contemporary poets have used the number seven in their poems as a sacred and complete

who has not been born from a mother and the number seven represents god. Also, in the Middle Ages,
they regarded the number seven as a complete number. Of course, from the same early times, the
number nine has been in competition with the number seven. In the myths and creeds of the Greek,
and also in the beliefs of the Germans, there have been nine distances/ intervals similar to the periods
of seven distances/intervals. (Cassirer, 1999, P. 233). In the Golden Branch, Frazer (1384, P. 268)

Essay on The Great Gatsby and The Hollow Men
The Great Gatsby has been one of the classic novels of the twentieth century. It creates a unique
society that makes the story such a masterpiece. Another magnificent work that relates to The Great
Gatsby is T.S. Eliot s The Hollow Man. ; The lines in the poem portray the story so vividly that it
should have been an epigraph for the novel. The poem s references to hollow and stuffed men, can
describe different characters in The Great Gatsby. The hollowness of men represents ruthless
barbarians with no respect for humans and no understanding of love. However, the stuffed men seem
to be educated, wealthy, and respectful. The differences in these types of men can be seen through the
events of the novel. Another aspect of the poem that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, she is also revolting and doesn t understand the concept of love. At one point in the novel
she gets frustrated and says to Jay Oh you want too much, I love you now, isn t that enough?(139) ;
This shows the emptiness in her heart and the depression of her life. Daisy really has a low self esteem
and even with her possessions, she is still a disheartened lady with no motive in her life. In addition,
Daisy s hollow character eventually leads to her mental break down and ultimately conveys her love
to Tom. This occurs when she runs over Myrtle and kills her without even looking back. Daisy then
destroys Jay s love and never acknowledges his death.
Another similarity between the works is the idea of the stuffed men mentioned in the poem. There are
two characters in the novel that carry this trait. Jay Gatsby s classy demeanor and restrained behavior
show what good quality he is made of. Another trait he carries is his love for others such as Daisy and
Nick. Even though he loves them as stepping stones to reach his goals, he has the decency to respect
their goals in life. His persona and character is best summed up by Nick in the beginning of the novel.
He stated: There was something gorgeous about him that heightened the sensitivities to the promises
of life.(6) ; Another stuffed character is George Wilson. Even though he committed suicide and had a

Hallucinogens Effective For Therapeutic

Research on Ibogaine as a treatment for addiction started in New York City in 1962 by Howard
Lotsof.
Ibogaine doses ranging from 0.14 to 19mg/kg were given to heroin dependent group and they
experienced an unexpected elimination of the physical symptoms of opioid withdrawal. In 1980,
Lotsof received a US patent for using Ibogaine in opioid dependence and many countries like, France,
The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovinia,, Panama, Mexica, Canada and South Africa used Ibogaine
in nonmedical settings (Alper, 2007). Ibogain is used to reduce or eliminate the addiction to opioids,
and to alleviate the symptoms of opioids withdrawal. It is also used in treating dependence on cocaine,
and other stimulants, alcohol, nicotine, and polysubstance abuse (Bastiaans, 2004).
Experiences of patients who are treated with Ibogaine consist of three stages: acute, evaluative and
residual stimulation. Acute phase starts within an hour of taking the ibogaine, their physical changes,
and patients lose coordination and feel the need to lie down. It relates to visual experiences like
dreams rather than hallucination and visual experiences ranges from autobiographical, life narratives,
themes relating to prehistory and evolution and sometimes surreal or comical cartoon like images. But
visual phenomenon from Ibogaine varies due to doses and they cannot recall the visual images
afterwards (Alper, 2007). In the evaluative phase, which

The Rising House Costs On New Zealand
The rising house costs in New Zealand specific in Auckland are empowering more young experts to
search elsewhere for a stable job with higher wages. Conversely, we are losing highly skilled
Aucklanders to other regions in the country to pursue a better work life balance. The major concern
for the unaffordability of housing is creating a big issue to all Auckland based businesses as talented
employees moved away from the city to escape from the increasing cost of living. This will threaten
the vitality of many businesses or local organizations that rely on upon their talent. So because of this
house costs are moving up faster than the wages of employees therefore this implies that housing is
turning out to be less affordable. As indicated in an article by Nichol states that three quarters said
they had lost employees to other locations in New Zealand or overseas, nearly half of them moved to
Christchurch or Tauranga. Also many highly skilled people won t move or come to Auckland because
they won t able to afford living here (Nichol, 2016). The housing cost in Auckland was extremely
deterred in drawing in the middle income workers to Auckland city.
While on the opposite side of the scale a few organizations will wind up paying rewards to their staffs
so as to hold on to their employees from moving. A large portion of these organizations won t have the
capacity to offer flexible part time or full time employment because of the time it takes to commute

Monetary Policy For The Entire Euro Area
ECB The European Central bank in Frankfurt, Germany defines the monetary policy for the entire
Euro area. It is a single monetary authority with a single monetary policy and primary objective to
maintain price stability. The ECB sets interest rates at which it lends to commercial banks in the
Eurozone. This controls money supply and inflation. It manages the Eurozones foreign currency
reserves and the buying or selling currencies to balance exchange rates. It ensures that financial
markets and institutions are well supervised. This makes sure the payments systems work well. It
produces Euro s banknotes by Eurozone countries. Last, the ECB monitors price trends and risks to
price stability. There are three decision making bodies: Governing Council, Executive Board, and
General council. Governing Council is the main decision making body that assesses economic and
monetary developments. The Executive Board implements monetary policy and manages day to day
operations. The General Council has more of an advisory and coordination role to help prepare for
new countries joining the euro. The ECB works with the national central banks of all EU countries.
Together they are the European System of Central Banks. This helps with cooperation between central
banks and the Eurozone. The ECB chose a quantitative definition of price stability with three main
reasons: to make monetary policy more transparent, provide a yardstick against what the public can
hold the ECB accountable, and is

Comparison Of Frederick Douglass And Martin Luther King Jr
Out of oppression rises resilient individuals whose voices cannot be silenced. Though the exact
circumstances may vary, both Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. were empowered in the
face of persecution. Both came from a place of suffering and restriction, were inspired by the brutality
the observed, and attacks institutions which allowed these atrocities and others to continue. Their
words, powerful and thought provoking, will serve as pieces that will not soon be forgotten. Frederick
Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. both utilized certain writing techniques to emphasize their story
and increase the degree of impact to the reader. In both pieces, Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass and Letter from Birmingham Jail, emotionally charged elements are included to create a
response from the reader. Douglass ultilizes a deeply personal and graphic style. Remembering the
horrific story of his Aunt Hester, Douglass recounts, and after rolling up his sleeves, he (slave master)
commenced to lay on the heavy cow skin, and soon the warm, red blood (amid heartrending shrieks
from her, and horrid oaths from him) came dripping to the floor. In contrast, King calls upon the
emotion of the recipients through his reference to the greater evil committed against society. Relating
what he has seen to the larger picture, King describes, But when you have seen vicious mobs lynch

Coach Carter Comparison
Life is an inexplicable process of existence. It has never been understood and will probably not be
understood in the years to come. In life we see comparisons and contrasts everyday in our lives in one
way or another. At the same time it is astonishing too, how one situation, person or movie can have
amazing resemblances to other situations and movies. It is always a whirlpool of a mixture of
comparisons and contrasts. One just needs an observant eye or a magnifying glass to look at things
differently. Excellent examples of this are two great movies; Coach Carter and Pursuit of Happiness .
Coach Carter directed by Thomas Carter is about the struggle of a man who tries to mend his
basketball team into becoming educated students along with strong athletes. Pursuit of Happiness
directed by Gabriele Muccino is about a salesman who is struggling to make ends meet, and raise his
son after the mother walks out on them. After watching these two movies, the audience is left

movies display technical codes, theme of motivation and the analysis of the main characters.

I think our society values athletes and workers over intellect. When most people turn on their tv, if
they are given the choice between a football game or a documentary about plants, they would choose
the football game. In my opinion athletics and working should be equally balanced with intellect.
Some people will disagree stating that one is more important than the other. Choosing one over the
other can lead to serious consequences. If we spend to much time learning how to work and play
sports, like our modern day society does, we will forget the valuable information like art, music,
history, research, our progress in learning about the universe we live in. We will ultimately stay stuck

High Correlation Between Poverty And Educational Outcomes...
Research shows that there is a high correlation between poverty and educational outcomes. According
to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), there were approximately 20 percent of school
age children who were living in poverty ridden households in 2014 (NCES,2016). The quality of
education a student attains is associated with their parent s educational attainment and household
poverty status (NCES,2016). Children who live in poverty during their early childhood years have a
higher chance of attaining a lower level of academic performance, creating a readiness gap in schools.
The readiness gap begins in kindergarten and extends through elementary and high school,
contributing to lower rates of high school completion (NCES,2016). School readiness is defined as a
measure of how prepared a child is to succeed in school, cognitively, socially and emotionally, and it
separates the disadvantaged children from their more affluent peers (Attendance Works, 2016).
Children as early as 18 months from low income families who come into school with a readiness gap,
experience disadvantages in vocabulary development and begin falling behind in reading, leaving
them unable to read at grade level by 3rd grade (Attendance Works, 2016).

states that the association between poverty and academic performance has been documented to begin

Conflict Theory And Labeling Theory
Conflict theory and labeling theory are two similar theories in the world of crime. It has been debated
whether or not there is a clear line separating the two theories. By evaluating the two theories, the
differences between them can become more obvious and it becomes easier to separate the two. In
addition to conflict theory and labeling theory, there is another type of theories that are used to explain
crime. These theories focus more on a criminal s lifetime and how their criminal records have evolved
over time. Two of the leading theories in this realm of criminology are Moffit s theory of life course
persistent offenders and Sampson and Laub s age graded theory of informal social control. These
theories both explain why people commit or don t commit crime. There are similarities between the
theories and also differences. By analyzing all four of these theories, a better understanding can be
gained related to crime.
The traditional view of crime has sometimes been that if a government is tougher on crime, the crime
rates will go down. There are theories that suggest the state interventions can reduce the crime rates
and are key to solving areas of high crime. However, labeling theory challenges all of this. This theory
suggests that state intervention can actually increase crime rates. By assigning labels to criminals and
felons , the state is deepening the problems that are getting people to turn to crime in the first place.
Labeling theory states that the state

Oedipus (Aristotle 1961, p. 1453a). Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero comprises the character
Oedipus. Oedipus displays several qualities as a tragic hero to included the cause of his downfall.
Even though Oedipus is not known as a wise scholar, he did have the ability to outwit the Sphinx and
solve the riddle. This story of the Sphinx adds to his respect and sets up an emotional feel to like
Oedipus character. Oedipus earns sanctification as a King by saving the natives of Thebes, which
gains him more influence as he comes a consecrated King of the city. Even the Priest addresses
Oedipus by saying, Great Oedipus, O powerful King of Thebes (Sophocles 425, p. 860). Oedipus
character has sainthood like status. Even with his this status, Oedipus has a treacherous ethical
wrongdoing. He is in an incest relationship with his mother, despite not knowing she was his mother.
Using Aristotle s definition, Oedipus s downfall does not stem just from his evil. This downfall stems
from his pride and a combination of different issues.
One issue that contributes to Oedipus downfall is his anger. Oedipus becomes very angry when the
blind prophet warns him by saying, Am I to bear this from him? Damnation Take you! Out of this

Surgical Anatomy
Surgical anatomy of the mandible
The mandible is a U shaped bone that supports the lower teeth and makes up the lower facial skeleton.
It has no bony attachments to the skull. It is suspended below the maxilla by muscles, ligaments, and
other soft tissues, which therefore provide the mobility necessary to function with the maxilla. The
superior aspect of the arch shaped mandible consists of the alveolar process and the teeth. The body of
the mandible extends posteroinferiorly to form the mandibular angle and posterosuperiorly to form the
ascending ramus. A vertical plate of bone that extends upward as two processes forms the ascending
ramus of the mandible. The anterior of these is the coronoid process; the posterior is the condyle.(13)

Essay On Evaluation Of Teaching
The Evaluation of Teaching Methods In US Universities Even the smartest students have certain
classes that they cannot focus in, no matter how hard they try. Everyone knows that no one is exactly
the same; for example, identical twins may look identical at first glance, if you look more closely, you
will notice differences between the two. This basic concept applies to teachers and professors too.
Every teacher has a different teaching method, some people may think that the teaching methods are
the same, but it is slightly different. This difference may be due to the different subjects that the
teachers are teaching or just the difference in personalities and teaching styles that each teacher has.
These differences greatly affect students performances in numerous of ways that one could not
possibly think of. I had observed in several of my classes to compare and contrast different teaching
styles from my professors and the students behaviors depending on the subject and the professors. The
classes that I have observed include General Chemistry 1, Calculus 2 and Asian Behaviors and
Thought (ABT). Two of these classes are the main subjects with the last one is a general education
class in order to see the differences better and if there are any similarities. Calculus 2 and ABT are
both classroom based courses. I chose to observe General Chemistry 1 because unlike the other two
classes, this class is a lecture, which means there is no doubt that the teaching methods of the

Admiral Yi s Impact On East Asian History
Few people in history are as influential yet obscure as Admiral Yi Sun shin. Admiral Yi was born in
1545 and died in battle in 1598. His exemplary performance as an admiral and his loyalty to his
country were lauded by both Koreans and Japanese. Even westerners like Admiral George Alexander
Ballard have acknowledged the brilliance of admiral Yi. Admiral Yi Sun shin had a significant impact
on East Asian history through his defense of Korean independence, development of revolutionary
naval combat tactics, and his legacy sparking Korean nationalism. The first and most obvious impact
that Yi Sun shin had on history was his defence of Korea from Japan. If Japan had successfully

The Imjin Wars themselves drummed up nationalism in both Korea and Japan2. However for Korea in
particular Yi was a potent symbol (Yi Sun shin 1998). One reason for his importance is that during his
life he was not treated well by the Choson government. After fighting off the first Japanese invasion
Yi was arrested and demoted to the lowest level in the military. Even after his humiliation and
demotion at the hands of the government that he had saved he served devotedly in his station (Yi Sun
shin 1998). Perhaps this was due to his confucian ethic or maybe it was due to his personal
nationalism and loyalty to the Korean state Since that response was also redolent of Korean patriarchy
and a host of prevailing social values as well as martial spirit and actually succeeded in driving off the
invader, it was to earn him even greater accolades as a savior of his nation (Gilbert, 2017). Yi s status
has also caused an annual festival to be held at the headquarters of the Korean navy to commemorate
admiral Yi s accomplishments and to celebrate the blossoming of the cherry trees (Gilbert, 2017).
Admiral Yi also has a national shrine that is 342,112 square meters. There are also several statues of
Yi Sun shin in south Korea, the largest is in downtown Seoul (Gilbert, 2017). Based on his presence
today it is clear to see that Yi had a lasting impact on Korean nationalism.

The Life and Work of John Calvin and Galileo Galilei Essay
John Calvin was born July 10th, 1509, in Noyon, Picardy. He was raised up in a staunch Roman
Catholic family. Early in his life, Calvin s father was employed by the local bishop as an administrator
at the town s cathedral. With this newly acquired job, John Calvin s father wanted Calvin to be a
priest. Due to the fact that his family had close ties with the bishop and his noble family, Calvin s
classmates in Noyon were aristocratic and culturally influential in his childhood. At the age of
fourteen, Calvin set off for Paris to study at the College de Marche. This helped him prepare for
university study. At the College de Marche, he studied seven subjects: grammar, rhetoric, logic,
arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music. Towards the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A year later, Calvin ran away from Paris. Reason being, his friends wrote papers and gave lectures
opposing the Roman Catholic Church, which frightened Calvin. For the next three or so years, John
Calvin lived in several places outside of France. This included him using a dozen or so names;
changing it from place to place he traveled. He traveled alone, studying by himself, preaching, and
beginning work on the Institutes of the Christian Religion, which turned out to be an instant best
seller. By 1536, he had stopped work in the Roman Catholic Church, and made plans to leave France
for good. He planned on leaving France and heading over to Strasbourg. However, due to the war
between Francis I and Charles V, Calvin decided to make a detour to Geneva. Calvin was a huge
success in Geneva. Farel, a reformer, invited him to stay in Geneva. Farel also threatened Calvin s life
with God s anger if he chose not to stay. After deciding to stay in Geneva, thus began a long
relationship with the city. Due to theological conflicts, Calvin was asked to leave the city, where he
began as a lecturer and preacher. In 1538, he left the city of Geneva, and headed off for Strasbourg. In
1541, Calvin, who was now working as a pastor to French refugees, was requested to come back to
Geneva by the Council of Geneva. So, in 1541, Calvin returned to Geneva. He remained in Geneva
until his death on May 27th, 1564. Those last several years were plentiful with lecturing,

Fall Of Acre Mongols
Out of the Mongols, Christians, and Muslim, the most barbaric warriors would have to be the
Muslims. Examples that support this answer comes from the text The Fall of Acre. When the Muslims
would conquer a castle on their way to Acre, they would step over the enemies corpses while
marching and the city of Acre was burned within the walls. The Muslims couldn t break the Christians
at Acre so they made a truce between the crusaders and the Muslims slewed them into captivity in
Babylon. On one account of an Islamic historian he stated that a single one of the Muslim warriors
would enter a village or a quarter wherein were many people, and would continue to slay them one
after another, none daring to stretch forth his hand against this horseman.

Romanticism Response To The Industrial Revolution
Romanticism was a response towards the industrial revolution. The movement rejected the idea of
reason that gripped the educational masses of earlier 18th century Europe. Romaticism idolized the
unknown and the idea of personification. As romanticism started to dwindle in the mid 1800 s
innovative ideas formed. The new movements that evolved from Romanticism are Nationalism,
Liberalism, and Conservatism. Liberalism didn t start out as a reactionary or branch off from the
romanticism period, instead it has roots throughout the ages. For example, in 1789 after revolutions in
France, France passed the document Declaration of Rights and Man, which proclaimed men are born

Romantics reacting towards and rejecting the enlightenment, single handily brought both the
protestant and the catholic church back into the limelight. Conservatives would soon pick up on this
and believing that all humans are not intrinsically good, believed in the stronger control of the church
to maintain virtuous behavior, in both the citizen and in the state . In France and Austria, conservatism
was the most prevalent with strong ties to the Catholic Pope. Conservatism would ensure peace during
the Vienna congress. As romanticism dwelled in the unknown and the personification. Nationalism
became a popular movement by dwelling in the bonds of certain cultures by location, religion, and
even language. Johann Gottfried Herder (1744 1803) a German philosopher, would argue that each
nation had its own distinctive spirit, or a volksgiest, and would continue to argue that each spirit was
discovered, not invented. Eugene Delacroix (1798 1863) a French painter, and Francisco Goya (1746
1828) a Spanish painter, would soon put paintings into nationalism limelight. Delacroix interpretation
of the revolution of 1830 in the painting Liberty Leading the People would soon be a rallying cry with
the personification of Marianne, or the spirt of liberty to France, leading the charge and holding the

Being able to work in teams as a medical assistant is helpful because in any situation I would need the
assistance of my co workers. Being able to break information down to where the patient or patients
can understand is a wonderful skill to posses because I will be dealing with so many cultures,
ethnicity, and age groups. A lot of people do not understand when doctors and even medical assistants
use certain terms, so when they are spoken to where they can understand, it makes them feel better
just knowing what is going on instead of feeling more confused than what they was when they came
in. And also it lets them know that you care enough to take the time and effort to make sure they
understand. According to Engel (2000), Kamien explains that the task of general practice should go
well beyond simply dealing with a patient s presenting complaint (p.4). The same explanation applies
to adapting to change as a medical assistant in the sense that I should be able to listen and adapt to
each patient s needs that I come in contact with. Being able to adapt to change is a plus because as a
medical assistant I will be dealing with new equipment, new procedures, and different co workers that
might be able to show me better ways to treat the patient s complaints. As a medical assistant, being
able to adapt to change goes hand and hand. I would have to be able to adjust to the problems that

Emperor Nero Emperor Nero ruled from 54 A.D until his death by suicide 14 years later. His birth
name was Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus. His mother, Agrippina the Younger, was a sister of Emperor
Caligula. Nero was a great nephew of Emperor Claudius. He was also related to the Roman politician
and general, Mark Antony. Emperor Claudius had two sons from several marriages, and after marrying
Agrippina, he adopted Nero. One of his sons died when he was younger and while the other son,
Britannicus lived, Claudius liked Nero better as an Emperor. He made Nero his heir to the throne.

The Great War, later dubbed as the First World War , hadn t really piqued the interest of the United

Triple Alliance that had threatened France. There were also a lot more causes that also contributed to
World War 1, but amongst them all, the one that was probably the most important was the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The reason as to why it was and is the most important
cause to World War I was how much of a propulsion it had on the European countries to cause World
War I in the first place. To start off, the assassination of the Archduke was by a member of a group
called The Black Hand who were Serbian nationalists. During that time Russia had supported these

Carlton Pearson Essay
Oh, How Great the Fall of Carlton Pearson
In the 1990s, Carlton Pearson was pastor of one of the largest churches in the nation. He regularly
drew 6,000 people a week to his services at Higher Dimensions Family Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In
1993, he married life coach Gina Pearson. Through the rest of the 90s, he had one of the most watched
shows on TBN, filled stadiums with his evangelical conferences, and was ordained a bishop. His
Azusa conferences alone would draw upwards of 50,000 people each year. Then he decided his beliefs
were all wrong, and, by 2002, the Oral Roberts University trained preacher changed those beliefs to
accept the doctrine of inclusion. The doctrine basically says that there is no satan or hell and God
loves everybody regardless of their sin or lifestyle. As he continued to preach this doctrine, he was
soon branded a heretic by his church peers including the other bishops in the Church of God in Christ
(COGIC) and Joint College of African American Pentecostal Bishops. By 2005, his church had less
than 20 percent of its membership and by 2006 his building was foreclosed upon.

Inspectors may inspect businesses and obtain undertakings from employers to comply with their duties
in terms of the Act. Failing that, they may issue compliance orders, to which or against which an
employer may object or appeal. Any party assessing compliance with the Act has discretion to
consider a variety of factors amounting to whether the employer has made reasonable attempts, in
his/her particular circumstances, to comply. The Director General may conduct a review of whether an
employer has complied with the Act and followed it with recommendations on methods of
compliance. If that fails, the Director General may refer the matter to the Labour Court, which is the
ultimate Court which may enforce the provisions of the Act. Chapter II of the Act came into operation

American Civil War and Sectionalism
1. Approximately 180,000 Negros served in the Union during the Civil War. The Negro Soldier was
overall a good one. One example was at the Assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina. The 54th
Massachusetts Colored troops led the assault and scaled the fort s parapet and were only driven back
after brutal hand to hand fighting. The Negro faced some discrimination in the Union Army in areas
such as pay. It wasn t until June 15th, 1864 that the Congress granted equal pay to Negro troops.
Several Negro soldiers earned the Medal of Honor. The North attitude towards Negro troops was
mainly positive, while the South did not want Negros to serve in the Confederate Army. It wasn t until
the Confederates were running low on men did they allow Negros to serve. The Negros serving in the
North felt it as their duty to serve and support the cause for their own freedom.
2. General Ulysses S. Grant was a brilliant strategist and seemed to be able to plan out movements in

that the South s casualties to be much more than the North s. Grant did have the support and trust of
the North though and his record did well to deserve that support. His commanders trusted his

Edvard Munch s The Scream
The 1893 painting The Scream , painted by Edvard Munch is very captivating. This painting makes
me feel the true emotion Edvard is feeling. At first, I see the dark dull colours in the gloomy scenery
but then I can look past that and see such a warm fiery red orange sky. I love the details in this panting
from the people in the background to the organic strokes of the paintbrush exhibiting a different shade
with every stroke. However, I cannot help but wonder why? Why is this human screaming or are they
human? Maybe it is a representation of someone s inner demon or thoughts just shouting to get out. In
spite of that, I think not knowing the true meaning of this painting is the beauty of it.
There are many elements/principles of art shown in this painting. The painting is filled with many
wavy smooth lines that help signify the movement of the water. The use of complementary colours in
the background help emphasis the focal point, the screaming person. I think this painting is a cry for

nature. After learning the inspiration for this painting, this piece intrigues me even more. I feel that
Munch expressed his ideas very well you can really see the anxiety he felt when he saw the blood red
sky and scream of nature he heard. I think that most people would interpret this panting as sad or
fearful however, that does not mean that everyone s perception will be the same. I think the most
fascinating part of this piece is that everyone can view it in a different

in General Electric (GE). The paper first introduces two leaders with some brief biographies,
characteristics and their contribution to the GE. It then looks at who would be the more effective
leader by providing with some aspects of leadership. It then comes up with some skills these people
employed in their leadership to help GE growth rapidly during 1990s till now. The next part will put a
conclusion and some recommendations about leadership for potential leaders in the future.

Welch was a very good hunter for opportunities and also a good manager of risks and threats while
Immelt improved what Welch had. As a successful story in business management, application of Six
Sigma program in GE was spread over the world as one of the most valuable lessons among
businesses in the world relating to quality control. (see Appendix B, Story 1)
Above all, Welch was a ruthless taskmaster at GE. Immelt works with long term perspective rather
with a short term one. Immelt proved that he is a very effective leader by helping GE overcome the
hardship in 2001 when terrorist attacks on September 11 were a harbinger of bad times to come for
GE. (see Appendix B, Story 2)
It s really difficult to say this leader is better than another one. To compare and contrast them, in the
range of this paper, in terms of leadership, we would just use leadership styles, traits of emotional
intelligence that helped them become top leaders in the world.
2.1. Leadership styles
In the reign of Jack Welch during his 20 year at GE, a new leadership style was introduced and spread
companywide. Welch developed a ranking system that put employees in one of the three categories.
The top 20 percent were stars , the middle 70 percent were the crucial majority and the bottom 10
percent were weeded out. Through his policy of differentiation, Welch was able to separate those who

Mangroves in the Australian Ecosystem Essay
Mangroves in Australia
Introduction
Mangroves are an integral part of the Australian ecosystem. They are valuable ecologically,
economically and socially. Mangroves provide nurseries to an abundance of marine species which
would die if the ecosystem was knocked out of balance. They also account for about 75% of
commercially caught fish in Australia. Unfortunately mangroves are under constant threat from
humans. Since European settlement in Australia, around 17% of Australia s mangroves have been
destroyed. Three large threats to mangroves are coastal development, chemical runoff and climate
change. These factors are all caused by humans, and can be easily stopped without much hassle.
Values of Mangroves

The Aboriginal people have been able to extract these benefits without causing direct damage to the
mangrove ecosystem. Mangroves also play a large role in tourism. They provide a place for tourists to
go bird watching and partake in many other recreational activities. Human Impacts on Mangroves
Humans have played a large role in the destruction of mangroves. Pollutants, such as oil, fertilizers
and toxic chemicals, have affected the growth of mangroves. These pollutants are all forms of waste
produced by humans. Oil spills release large amounts of oil into the mangrove ecosystem. This oil can
smother the roots of mangrove trees, which kills the mangroves. Deforestation is caused when many
mangrove systems are cut down in order to develop infrastructure on the mangrove site. When
fertilizers and other nutrient filled products are not disposed of properly, the result is eutrophication.
Mangroves act as nurseries to fish and other marine animals. Currently too many sea creatures are
being fished, leading to the destruction of the mangrove ecosystem.
Deforestation
Many people see mangroves as nothing more than smelly, useless, trees, taking up valuable building
space. Lack of knowledge about the values of mangroves leads to them being cut down, in order to
build human settlements. So far, about 35% of the world s mangroves have been destroyed. Most of
the mangroves have been destroyed in

1. Which water soluble vitamins does Brian have too much or too little of? Brian s unhealthy eating
habits have caused his body to either be receiving inadequate amounts or a surplus of water soluble

Either cleaning up his diet by including more Vitamin C rich foods such as fruits and vegetables or
adding a Vitamin C supplement to his diet will help to resolve this problem. If he were going to begin
taking a supplement however I would recommend visiting his doctor first and discussing it with him.
Although, I would recommend to him that supplementing with Vitamin C is a possibility I would
express to him the benefits of receiving the needed nutrients through food. Obtaining nutrients through
a healthy diet is always going to be the best option.
3. Why does Brian have trouble sleeping, especially when he restricts his diet?
There are a few different reasons to why Brian could be having trouble sleeping based on his diet. One
of the reasons could be that because he consumes so many calories on some days that because he s so
full he may be suffering from heartburn, uncomfortably full or sleep apnea. When Brian fasts he is not
taking in any carbohydrates that is one of the main cofactors, which helps tryptophan and serotonin,
reach the brain. These two hormones are responsible for help an individual sleep. Another cause to
Brian s insomnia would be due to his alcohol consumption. When a person drinks alcohol, especially
before bed, it can mess with your sleeping patterns. A person can fall immediately into NREM sleep,
deep sleep, bypassing REM sleep causing the person to come out of a sleep cycle

Nursing Interventions For The Management Of Patient Fatigue
Michaela P. Capulong
NU310
Unit 3 Assignment Worksheet
August 17, 2015
Directions
1. List the source in APA style and format
Reference:
Patterson, E., Wan, Yi, Wai, T., Sidani, S. (2013). Nonpharmacological nursing interventions for the
management of patient fatigue: a literature review. Journal of Clinical Nursing, 22, 2668 2678. doi:
10.1111/jocn.12211
2. Is the review thorough does it include all of the major studies on the topic? Does it include recent
research? Are studies from other related disciplines included, if appropriate? (25 points)
In my opinion the review was fair, but the research study is weak due to several limitations.
The reviewers clearly identified the limitations of the study such as, the sample size and the evaluation
of the interventions. Although, the eight types of interventions were reviewed, the researchers did not
include the effect and impact of nonpharmacological interventions of patients with fatigue. The
reviewers included the recent research studies for comparison and credible references were used to
support the review. A table with descriptions and interventions should also be clearly labeled and in
detailed. Based on the study, the interventions were delivered by nurses and nurse researchers. It
would more effective if other disciples such as the occupational therapist, physical therapist,
Kinesiotherapist, and physicians were included in the studies. The OT, PT, KT plays a significant role
in improving activity tolerance and

Five Characteristics Of High Quality Information To Zillow
Justification
The Importance of the Five Characteristics of High Quality Information to Zillow
According to Baltzan (2012), the five common characteristics of high quality information are accurate,
complete, consistent, timely, and unique. The data is accurate when the value is correct, it is complete
when there is no missing values such as missing state or zip code. The data is consistent when looking
at different views arrive at the same total, e.g. the aggregated total agree with the total of the
individual items. The data is timely when it is current with respect to the business needs, such as with
weekly, daily, or hourly frequency. It is unique when there is no duplication of data.
Based on Zillow s business needs of presenting accurate, up to date data to the users, the order of
importance of these five characteristics to Zillow (from high to low level of importance) would be
accurate, timely, consistent, complete, and unique. Accuracy can be assured when Zillow takes data
from reliable authenticated sources (e.g. the land office), and timeliness can be assured with daily
updates (or hourly where applicable). Consistency can be assured with a proper design of the database
structure, and the presentation layer. Completeness and uniqueness could something be missed, as data
completeness depends on the availability of the information provide by home owners to the land
office, and some amount of attributes might be missing. Uniqueness of data is a challenge when some

Cash Flow Statement
Cash Flow Statement:
A cash flow statement is a financial report with information on the sources of a firm s cash and how it
was spent within a given period of time. In contrast to other financial reports, a cash flow statement
does not present information on non cash items like depreciation. As a result, the cash flow statement
is beneficial in analyzing the temporary feasibility of a company, especially its capability to pay bills.
Many analysts recommend entrepreneurs to study a cash flow statement quarterly because of its
importance for small and large businesses.
Since a cash flow statement classifies cash receipts and payments based on operations, investments,
and financing activities, it s categorized into these three functional sections within the business.
Therefore, the major parts of the cash flow statement are cash related operations, investments,
financing, and net increase or decrease in cash. While cash from operations is cash generated from a
firm s daily operations, the investing cash is generated from assets investments. On the other hand,
financing cash is paid or received from the issued or borrowed funds whereas net increase or decrease
in cash is from annual rise or reduction in cash. It s important to note that regardless of the slight
differences in cash flow statements, they all present financial information in all the four categories (
Cash Flow Statement , n.d.).
One of the major advantages of a cash flow statement is that it provides

  • 3. Social Differences Of The European Way Of Life In Colonial... Although undoubtedly influenced by England, the American Colonies formed their own unique way of life. One aspect much like England is the layout of the town and its house, especially in Salem, was rather haphazard with streets and alleys crossing at irregular angles. Unlike Europe, property ownership was not the only way to ensure a fortune, a considerable number of Americans found New Money through their occupation. The upset of wealth standards also led to the development of different and more varied social groups and hierarchies. The different classes had different cuisine and past times as well, with the higher class being more European in nature. Travel was an interesting affair in America, with the land s rather extreme weather and the limited forms of transportation. Life in Colonial America, and specifically Salem, was significantly different to that experienced in England due to the difference in lodging, occupations, social groups, leisure, and environment. Since there was less of a social divide between the colonist when they settled, most of the time the poor and rich lived right next to each other, with no distinct neighborhoods. This led to a slight reconciliation between the classes, drawing them together. The people were still aware of the status of the elite, but they were no longer physically separated as they were in England. One method of acknowledgement is that whenever a noteworthy family moved or built a house on a street, said street gained the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over 22 years of service it completed 27 missions before disintegrating during re entry near the end of its 28th mission, STS 107 on February 1, 2003, resulting in the deaths of all seven crew members. History: Columbia was named after the American sloop Columbia Rediviva which, from 1787 to 1793, under the command of Captain Robert Gray, explored the US Pacific Northwest and became the first American vessel to circumnavigate the globe. It is also named after the Command Module of Apollo 11, the first manned landing on another celestial body. Columbia was also the female symbol of the United States. • 5. Letter To The Massachusetts Bay Colony By John Winthrop In a letter written by John Winthrop he explains to a friend his vision of the settlement in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Winthrop discusses the difficulties in establishing a self governing and self sustaining settlement as well as the conflicts the colonists amount to with the Indians. Early New England s colony totaled to above 4,000 colonists. Winthrop describes them as all being in good health and well provided of all necessarys: so hath not died about 2 or 3 grown persons . This means that the colonists are overall healthy with only a few deaths. This is of much importance for him to mention because it shows the well being of the colonists as well as the colony s capabilities of providing good health. Winthrop furthers onto this idea of health by saying it being verye rare to heare of any sick of agues or other diseases , meaning these diseases and sickness in New England are rare which is also positive and advantageous. As far as supporting themselves goes, everyone makes a contribution in different work fields. Winthrop says that this includes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that those Puritan colonists are very much included because of this belief system, whereas the non puritans and natives are more excluded. • 7. State Apparatuses By Antonio Gramsci I have been for the most part skeptical about whether Louis Althusser s essay on state apparatuses accomplishes anything not previously explained in more humanistic and less functionalist terms by Antonio Gramsci. Indeed, although there appears to be a clear divergence between the two insofar as Gramsci associates ideological work with civil society whereas Althusser locates it in the state, even this distinction is not as stark in light of certain passages in Selections from the Prison Notebooks. Gramsci s historically specific analysis of domination through hegemony simply seemed to me to constitute a social theory that better accounts for contingency, agency, and change. After further reflection, however, it also clear to me that we can improve upon it by incorporating Althusser s useful references to materiality and production. Before explaining Althusser s contribution to theories of ideology and the state, it is necessary to review Gramsci s own writings on the topic, particularly since his definition of the state and its functions varies a great deal within his fragmented notes from 1929 1936. The particular conception with which Gramsci is perhaps most associated is found in State and Civil Society the dichotomous title of which is highly suggestive in which he describes the state as the coercive and punitive force of juridical regulation of a country. It was Gramsci s attention to ideological struggles in the voluntary associations and private institutions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Examples Of Ethical Issues In The Movie 6. Do you think the form of presentation of ethical issues in that art form a correct portrayal of the ethical issue? Was it lost in details or made subtle, intangible and more convincing? 300 words. The ethical issues manifest in the form of unintentional irony. Bruner remarks in the first half of the movie that she is an agnostic, skeptical woman and does not believe in Father Moore s explanation of the events that have transpired. Later on when she herself experiences some events that veer on the threshold of the supernatural, she decides to prove to the court that Emily in fact was possessed by demons. In the end, failing to produce adequate evidence, she manipulates the jury using Father Moore s background and influences them further by invoking their faith, the faith that she has newly discovered. If the viewers find themselves engaging with the supernatural aspect of the film, they certainly miss the ethical breach that Bruner commits. Because the viewer follows the movie only from the point of view of either Bruner or Father Moore, they are oblivious to the manipulation that Bruner and Father Moore execute throughout. Print, pp 1 246 In a renowned examination to approach religion as a sociological study, respected scholars Robert D. Putnam and David E. Campbell trek through the social history of our nation over the past few decades and the affects that have consequently or thankfully been left on religious institutions. While the authors explore detailed cultural developments, America s religiosity and diversity is examined through comprehensive surveys and empirical analysis. As society began to expand under this foundation, women became increasingly more respected and their presence was accepted into various social realms that previously were not inviting for women. On the list of newly acceptable places for women to thrive is the workplace, which is another affect of the rise of women in religion according to our authors. Putnam and Campbell claim that these are interrelated because it was a social change that happened simultaneously, but the authors continue by giving little example to what sort of revolutionary changes happened to women inside of the churches. This brings the validity of their conclusion regarding cultural development and religion to question: did the authors uncover correlation, or are they over generalizing causation for the sake of the argument? Other experts have questioned the correlation as well, as Wallstreet journalist Wilfred McClay goes it say: In matters of sexuality, they offer a surprisingly crude formulation that reflects the authors rather coercive brand of moderation: The polarization of the past five decades on sexual matters has come about because libertines and prudes have successively provoked one another. The Seventh Seal Analysis The Seventh Seal follows the knight, Antonius Block, his squire Jon, his actor friends Mia, Jof and their son Michael, as well several other members of their acting troupe. Antonius and his squire have just returned home from the Crusades, during which Antonius had become disenchanted with life and began to feel abandoned by God. At the beginning of the film, the knight is met on a beach by Death in the form of a man. Believing Death has come to kill him, Antonius challenges him to a game of chess which continues throughout the film. Along the way home, Antonius befriends several members of an acting troupe and invites them back to his castle in an attempt to save them from the plague ravaging the country. In their travels, they meet the Flagellants, who march through towns in a group whipping themselves in an attempt to repent for the sins they believe brought the plague on. Jof is the only other character able to see the chess match with Death. Antonius intentionally distracts Death so that Jof and his family may escape. However, Antonius loses the match in the next move. In the final scene of the movie, Jof sees Death, the knight and his followers dancing in a field. A central theme in The Seventh Seal is the ever looming presence of death in the lives of medieval Europeans. The characters in The Seventh Seal are all presented with the reality of their mortality as they face the horrors of the plague spreading throughout the country. The connection between the life of the primitive man with the numbers has certainly been more, if not less, than today. In the current study, the number 7 has been considered as one of the most efficient mythological symbols and archetypes in the contemporary poetry to investigate into the role of this mythological number in the perspective of contemporary poets. The number seven is a symbol of perfection and a combination of three and four. Three is a symbol of female and four is a symbol of male and that s why it has drawn a lot of attention. Another magnificent work that relates to The Great Gatsby is T.S. Eliot s The Hollow Man. ; The lines in the poem portray the story so vividly that it should have been an epigraph for the novel. The poem s references to hollow and stuffed men, can describe different characters in The Great Gatsby. The hollowness of men represents ruthless barbarians with no respect for humans and no understanding of love. However, the stuffed men seem to be educated, wealthy, and respectful. The differences in these types of men can be seen through the events of the novel. Another aspect of the poem that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daisy really has a low self esteem and even with her possessions, she is still a disheartened lady with no motive in her life. In addition, Daisy s hollow character eventually leads to her mental break down and ultimately conveys her love to Tom. This occurs when she runs over Myrtle and kills her without even looking back. There are two characters in the novel that carry this trait. Jay Gatsby s classy demeanor and restrained behavior show what good quality he is made of. Another trait he carries is his love for others such as Daisy and Nick. Even though he loves them as stepping stones to reach his goals, he has the decency to respect their goals in life. His persona and character is best summed up by Nick in the beginning of the novel. • 14. The Rising House Costs On New Zealand The rising house costs in New Zealand specific in Auckland are empowering more young experts to search elsewhere for a stable job with higher wages. Conversely, we are losing highly skilled Aucklanders to other regions in the country to pursue a better work life balance. The major concern for the unaffordability of housing is creating a big issue to all Auckland based businesses as talented employees moved away from the city to escape from the increasing cost of living. This will threaten the vitality of many businesses or local organizations that rely on upon their talent. So because of this house costs are moving up faster than the wages of employees therefore this implies that housing is turning out to be less affordable. As indicated in an article by Nichol states that three quarters said they had lost employees to other locations in New Zealand or overseas, nearly half of them moved to Christchurch or Tauranga. Also many highly skilled people won t move or come to Auckland because they won t able to afford living here (Nichol, 2016). The housing cost in Auckland was extremely deterred in drawing in the middle income workers to Auckland city. While on the opposite side of the scale a few organizations will wind up paying rewards to their staffs so as to hold on to their employees from moving. Though the exact circumstances may vary, both Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. were empowered in the face of persecution. Both came from a place of suffering and restriction, were inspired by the brutality the observed, and attacks institutions which allowed these atrocities and others to continue. Their words, powerful and thought provoking, will serve as pieces that will not soon be forgotten. Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. both utilized certain writing techniques to emphasize their story and increase the degree of impact to the reader. In both pieces, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and Letter from Birmingham Jail, emotionally charged elements are included to create a response from the reader. Douglass ultilizes a deeply personal and graphic style. Remembering the horrific story of his Aunt Hester, Douglass recounts, and after rolling up his sleeves, he (slave master) commenced to lay on the heavy cow skin, and soon the warm, red blood (amid heartrending shrieks from her, and horrid oaths from him) came dripping to the floor. In contrast, King calls upon the emotion of the recipients through his reference to the greater evil committed against society. Excellent examples of this are two great movies; Coach Carter and Pursuit of Happiness . Coach Carter directed by Thomas Carter is about the struggle of a man who tries to mend his basketball team into becoming educated students along with strong athletes. Pursuit of Happiness directed by Gabriele Muccino is about a salesman who is struggling to make ends meet, and raise his son after the mother walks out on them. After watching these two movies, the audience is left wondering how these directors or writers can think alike yet have contrasts at the same time. • 19. Athletes Vs Intellect Analysis I think our society values athletes and workers over intellect. When most people turn on their tv, if they are given the choice between a football game or a documentary about plants, they would choose the football game. In my opinion athletics and working should be equally balanced with intellect. Some people will disagree stating that one is more important than the other. Choosing one over the other can lead to serious consequences. If we spend to much time learning how to work and play sports, like our modern day society does, we will forget the valuable information like art, music, history, research, our progress in learning about the universe we live in. We will ultimately stay stuck in the same spot in human advancement forever. The research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. High Correlation Between Poverty And Educational Outcomes... Research shows that there is a high correlation between poverty and educational outcomes. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), there were approximately 20 percent of school age children who were living in poverty ridden households in 2014 (NCES,2016). The quality of education a student attains is associated with their parent s educational attainment and household poverty status (NCES,2016). Children who live in poverty during their early childhood years have a higher chance of attaining a lower level of academic performance, creating a readiness gap in schools. The readiness gap begins in kindergarten and extends through elementary and high school, contributing to lower rates of high school completion (NCES,2016). School readiness is defined as a measure of how prepared a child is to succeed in school, cognitively, socially and emotionally, and it separates the disadvantaged children from their more affluent peers (Attendance Works, 2016). Children as early as 18 months from low income families who come into school with a readiness gap, experience disadvantages in vocabulary development and begin falling behind in reading, leaving them unable to read at grade level by 3rd grade (Attendance Works, 2016). In an article by Engle and Black, they discuss the impact of poverty on educational outcomes and it states that the association between poverty and academic performance has been documented to begin as early as the second year of life and ... • 21. Conflict Theory And Labeling Theory Conflict theory and labeling theory are two similar theories in the world of crime. It has been debated whether or not there is a clear line separating the two theories. By evaluating the two theories, the differences between them can become more obvious and it becomes easier to separate the two. In addition to conflict theory and labeling theory, there is another type of theories that are used to explain crime. These theories focus more on a criminal s lifetime and how their criminal records have evolved over time. Two of the leading theories in this realm of criminology are Moffit s theory of life course persistent offenders and Sampson and Laub s age graded theory of informal social control. These theories both explain why people commit or don t commit crime. There are similarities between the theories and also differences. By analyzing all four of these theories, a better understanding can be gained related to crime. The traditional view of crime has sometimes been that if a government is tougher on crime, the crime rates will go down. There are theories that suggest the state interventions can reduce the crime rates and are key to solving areas of high crime. However, labeling theory challenges all of this. This theory suggests that state intervention can actually increase crime rates. By assigning labels to criminals and felons , the state is deepening the problems that are getting people to turn to crime in the first place. Labeling theory states that the state ... • 24. Essay On Evaluation Of Teaching The Evaluation of Teaching Methods In US Universities Even the smartest students have certain classes that they cannot focus in, no matter how hard they try. Everyone knows that no one is exactly the same; for example, identical twins may look identical at first glance, if you look more closely, you will notice differences between the two. This basic concept applies to teachers and professors too. Every teacher has a different teaching method, some people may think that the teaching methods are the same, but it is slightly different. This difference may be due to the different subjects that the teachers are teaching or just the difference in personalities and teaching styles that each teacher has. These differences greatly affect students performances in numerous of ways that one could not possibly think of. I had observed in several of my classes to compare and contrast different teaching styles from my professors and the students behaviors depending on the subject and the professors. The classes that I have observed include General Chemistry 1, Calculus 2 and Asian Behaviors and Thought (ABT). Two of these classes are the main subjects with the last one is a general education class in order to see the differences better and if there are any similarities. Calculus 2 and ABT are both classroom based courses. I chose to observe General Chemistry 1 because unlike the other two classes, this class is a lecture, which means there is no doubt that the teaching methods of the ... Even westerners like Admiral George Alexander Ballard have acknowledged the brilliance of admiral Yi. Admiral Yi Sun shin had a significant impact on East Asian history through his defense of Korean independence, development of revolutionary naval combat tactics, and his legacy sparking Korean nationalism. The Imjin Wars themselves drummed up nationalism in both Korea and Japan2. However for Korea in particular Yi was a potent symbol (Yi Sun shin 1998). One reason for his importance is that during his life he was not treated well by the Choson government. After fighting off the first Japanese invasion Yi was arrested and demoted to the lowest level in the military. Even after his humiliation and demotion at the hands of the government that he had saved he served devotedly in his station (Yi Sun shin 1998). Perhaps this was due to his confucian ethic or maybe it was due to his personal nationalism and loyalty to the Korean state Since that response was also redolent of Korean patriarchy and a host of prevailing social values as well as martial spirit and actually succeeded in driving off the invader, it was to earn him even greater accolades as a savior of his nation (Gilbert, 2017). Yi s status has also caused an annual festival to be held at the headquarters of the Korean navy to commemorate admiral Yi s accomplishments and to celebrate the blossoming of the cherry trees (Gilbert, 2017). Admiral Yi also has a national shrine that is 342,112 square meters. There are also several statues of Yi Sun shin in south Korea, the largest is in downtown Seoul (Gilbert, 2017). • 41. American Civil War and Sectionalism 1. Approximately 180,000 Negros served in the Union during the Civil War. The Negro Soldier was overall a good one. One example was at the Assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina. The 54th Massachusetts Colored troops led the assault and scaled the fort s parapet and were only driven back after brutal hand to hand fighting. The Negro faced some discrimination in the Union Army in areas such as pay. It wasn t until June 15th, 1864 that the Congress granted equal pay to Negro troops. Several Negro soldiers earned the Medal of Honor. The North attitude towards Negro troops was mainly positive, while the South did not want Negros to serve in the Confederate Army. It wasn t until the Confederates were running low on men did they allow Negros to serve. The Negros serving in the North felt it as their duty to serve and support the cause for their own freedom. 2. General Ulysses S. Grant was a brilliant strategist and seemed to be able to plan out movements in advance. The people of the North thought the tremendous casualties to be horrendous. But Grant knew that the South s casualties to be much more than the North s. Grant did have the support and trust of the North though and his record did well to deserve that support. • 42. Edvard Munch s The Scream The 1893 painting The Scream , painted by Edvard Munch is very captivating. This painting makes me feel the true emotion Edvard is feeling. At first, I see the dark dull colours in the gloomy scenery but then I can look past that and see such a warm fiery red orange sky. I love the details in this panting from the people in the background to the organic strokes of the paintbrush exhibiting a different shade with every stroke. However, I cannot help but wonder why? Why is this human screaming or are they human? Maybe it is a representation of someone s inner demon or thoughts just shouting to get out. In spite of that, I think not knowing the true meaning of this painting is the beauty of it. There are many elements/principles of art shown in this painting. The painting is filled with many wavy smooth lines that help signify the movement of the water. The use of complementary colours in the background help emphasis the focal point, the screaming person. I think this painting is a cry for help; the person screaming is a representation of the Edvard Munch. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edvard Munch actually created four different versions of this painting using different materials. In addition, the original copy of the scream has been a target of various high profile art thefts. Munch discovered his inspiration for this painting while walking along the road with two friends...the sky turned blood red...I stood there trembling with anxiety...I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature. After learning the inspiration for this painting, this piece intrigues me even more. I feel that Munch expressed his ideas very well you can really see the anxiety he felt when he saw the blood red sky and scream of nature he heard. I think that most people would interpret this panting as sad or fearful however, that does not mean that everyone s perception will be the same. I think the most fascinating part of this piece is that everyone can view it in a different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They provide a place for tourists to go bird watching and partake in many other recreational activities. Human Impacts on Mangroves Humans have played a large role in the destruction of mangroves. Pollutants, such as oil, fertilizers and toxic chemicals, have affected the growth of mangroves. These pollutants are all forms of waste produced by humans. Oil spills release large amounts of oil into the mangrove ecosystem. This oil can smother the roots of mangrove trees, which kills the mangroves. Deforestation is caused when many mangrove systems are cut down in order to develop infrastructure on the mangrove site. When fertilizers and other nutrient filled products are not disposed of properly, the result is eutrophication. Mangroves act as nurseries to fish and other marine animals. Currently too many sea creatures are being fished, leading to the destruction of the mangrove ecosystem. Deforestation Many people see mangroves as nothing more than smelly, useless, trees, taking up valuable building space. Lack of knowledge about the values of mangroves leads to them being cut down, in order to build human settlements. So far, about 35% of the world s mangroves have been destroyed. Is the review thorough does it include all of the major studies on the topic? Does it include recent research? Are studies from other related disciplines included, if appropriate? (25 points) In my opinion the review was fair, but the research study is weak due to several limitations. The reviewers clearly identified the limitations of the study such as, the sample size and the evaluation of the interventions. Although, the eight types of interventions were reviewed, the researchers did not include the effect and impact of nonpharmacological interventions of patients with fatigue. The reviewers included the recent research studies for comparison and credible references were used to support the review. A table with descriptions and interventions should also be clearly labeled and in detailed. Based on the study, the interventions were delivered by nurses and nurse researchers. • 49. Cash Flow Statement Cash Flow Statement: A cash flow statement is a financial report with information on the sources of a firm s cash and how it was spent within a given period of time. In contrast to other financial reports, a cash flow statement does not present information on non cash items like depreciation. As a result, the cash flow statement is beneficial in analyzing the temporary feasibility of a company, especially its capability to pay bills. Many analysts recommend entrepreneurs to study a cash flow statement quarterly because of its importance for small and large businesses. Since a cash flow statement classifies cash receipts and payments based on operations, investments, and financing activities, it s categorized into these three functional sections within the business. Therefore, the major parts of the cash flow statement are cash related operations, investments, financing, and net increase or decrease in cash. While cash from operations is cash generated from a firm s daily operations, the investing cash is generated from assets investments.
