Classification Of Soils As Well As Overcoming Management...
Introduction
Soil classification is the categorisation of soils into groups at various levels of generalisation
according to their physical, chemical and mineralogical properties (Boul et al 2011:34). The formation
and subsequently the classification of soil has been at the forefront of geological scientific research
since its emergence in the 19th Century.
Over the course of this essay I will be considering the various classifications of soils as well as
overcoming management problems they may entail.
How can soil be classified in the UK?
It is important to be able to distinguish between soil types across farmed landscape, and classification
is the main way this can be achieved (Soffe, 2003:24). One common practice used to record
classification is through mapping; carried out on varying scales by National Soil Resources Institute
for England and Wales based on differences and similarities in soil profile investigations (Soffe,
2003:24; Simpson 1983:47).
Soils can be classified based on their structural and textural properties, formed from Parent material
(Soffe 2003:23). The primary components of soil comprise the Texture, this relating to the range of
sizes of particles in the soil and their distribution. (The Macaulay Institute, 2016;Soffe, 2003:3). The
texture of specific soil types will fall into one of 4 classifications; Clay, Silt, Sand or in some cases an
equal percentage of each to form Loam.
Soil Structure is influenced almost solely by Soil Texture (The

The Failure of the Post Civil War Reconstruction Period...
After the North won the civil war, it was time to rebuild this nation. This period of reconstruction was
supposed to have a profound change on society. Unfortunately this was not the case. Reconstruction
did not fundamentally alter this nation. Not to say that nothing happened, but nothing that really made
a change or difference happened. First, the control of the south was given right back to the planter
elite. Also, even though slavery was abolished; blacks were not free. Finally, Congress and President
Johnson could not get along. Although the civil war reshaped this country profoundly. The
reconstruction efforts did little but scratch a surface, before being quickly wiped away. After the civil
war the South was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also called for any officials to swear an oath of allegiance to the union.2 After Lincoln s
assassination, and Johnson s inaugeration these plans changed. Johnson pardoned all the southern
leaders that were in trouble for seceding from the union. This effectively put them back in power in
the South. Ultimately everything that congress and Lincoln had tried to do in the south. Taking back
the power from those who seceded. As well as any help that was given to the poor whites or any
blacks in the south was undone by Johnson. One of the biggest ways the reconstruction efforts failed
was with giving equal rights to the black community. Although the slaves were freed it was very
conditional freedom. The creation of Black codes made it seem like they were free. These codes made
it possible for black families to remain intact. It also gave blacks the right to sue in court, and own
property. This seems like progressive thinking at the time. The big problem with these codes is what
they denied blacks. Blacks could not testify against whites. They could not own guns, or travel
without permits. Although slavery had ended blacks were still being controlled. Without slaves to
work in the fields the plantation owners needed workers. A lot of them would rent out their land to
newly freed blacks. In exchange these poor blacks would have to give up 2/3 of their crop.3 The rest
would be used to pay off their debts. This would

Finding Your Dreams :Hopes and Dreams in The Absolute True Diary of a Part time Indian What price

Arnold Spirit, a Native American who lives on a reservation in Spokane, changes schools because he

motivation. Arnold had brain disabilities and it is hard for him to stand up for himself, with the help of
his friends Rowdy, Penelope, Gordy, and Roger, he starts to find himself in a place he never thought

Song Tra Bong river symbolizes the beginning of Mary Anne s shift into this other person. It appears
that she goes into the river with only the natural curiosities one may possess. However, it is after her

Causes Of Failure Of Bridge Roof Vibration
CAUSES OF FAILURE OF BRIDGE
Deck Vibration Since the well known bridge, Tacoma Narrows Bridge was destroyed in 1940 the
designers and owners started to concern more about the stability of bridge deck. For short and long
term of monitoring the deck, the instruments of geophysical are increase used which are;
1. accelerometers and tilt meter
2. strain gages
Figure1: Tacoma Narrows Bridge with severe vibration
Figure 2: Tacoma Narrows Bridge after collapse due to wind fluttering
These are several problems that had been summarized;
1. The stability of aerodynamic of bridge deck when subject to high wind.
2. Some effect on stability of bridge decks for long term, impact by fatigue that caused by cyclic
stresses which are including increased loading from the traffic, temperature changes and trucks that
have heavy load.
3. The bridge decks stability during earthquakes.
All the geophysical techniques are applied to overcome problems above. Those are principally specific
to the vibration monitoring and some environmental monitoring which is vibration monitoring
including strains, displacements, rotation and acceleration, while environmental monitoring including
wind and temperature. All of these are affected
Below are two major solutions to overcome fluttering problems of cable bridges;
1. Modification of the deck
To create more stiff deck, the shape and configuration of the bridge deck must be modified (with
respect to the length of the span).

Yankee Stadium Tragedy
The reason for the subsidies of these stadiums over recent years has been the incredible cost of
construction. There are over 100 various sports stadium in the U.S. with sixty four new major league
facilities alone have been built over a 16 year span beginning in the early 1990 s at a combined costs
of over $20 billion (Sanderson). One high profile example is of the new Yankee Stadium in New York:
The construction cost is expected to be around $1.3 billion... New York City is projected to spend
$220 million on infrastructure and various other improvements across the area (Robertson). The extra
expenditure is the type of costs that investors primarily like to argue as the reason for the subsidies.

By the time construction of a new stadium commences, construction jobs of all types have been
created, from welders to painters, from foremen to day laborers. Many of the workers needed for the
new construction projects are not local and will typically move temporarily or permanently into the
communities as construction can take years to complete. The moves can generate an increase in local
and state tax dollars from hotel lodging, home sales and spending on items necessary for daily living
such as clothing, food, gas and entertainment. When searching for funding for these stadiums and
workers to construct the project, many cities opt to subsidize the cost. Subsidizing is when the city
makes use of tax payer funds to help limit the private cost of the project. However, many economists
say that the subsidies are not beneficial to the average taxpayer. In spite of all of these economic
arguments, economists generally oppose subsidizing professional sports stadiums (Wolla). Many
economists agree that, Providing state and local subsidies to build stadiums for professional sports
teams is likely to cost the relevant taxpayers more than any

Comparing Religions And Beliefs Of Christianity And Islam
Christianity and Islam have a lot in common. One of the many is they are both monotheistic religions.
Both religions teach the same things like respect and tolerance. Muslims and Christians have much in
common in our mutual interests in governing families and in educating children in virtue and in
knowledge of the good, and in these areas, we have the basis for a building block of harmony between
us (Kleven, 2013).
Followers of Christianity are called Christians. Christians believe that the son of God, Christ, walked
the earth as an incarnate of God. Christians believe at the end of the world that Christ will return. We
also believe in the deity of Jesus. Christian worship: The father, son and holy spirit. Scripture comes
from The Holy Bible. Christians worship in personal dwellings, churches, chapels, cathedrals. It was
originated in Judea, a roman province. Christians believe original sin was created by Adam. Mankind
needs forgiveness for this inherited sin. Christians choose their actions by knowing what s right and
what s wrong. Christians believe that we are in need of salvation and should be repaired by God.
Practice such as: prayer, communion, sacraments, worship in church, reading of the bible and acts of
charity. Christian clergies consist of: nuns, ministers, monks, bishops and priest. They believe it is life
after death. You will spend eternity in Heaven or eternity in Hell. Marriage is a holy sacrament for
Christians. Mary is the mother of God. Abraham is

The Effect of Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration on Catalase...
Introduction
H2O2 is commonly known as hydrogen peroxide and it is a strong oxidizer and a naturally produced
compound in humans as a by product of oxidative metabolism. Because of this, humans also produce
the enzyme catalase peroxidases in order to convert small amounts of H2O2 into oxygen and water. It
uses the following chemical formula:
2H_2 O_2→O_2+〖2H〗_2 O
This process is called decomposition as two hydrogen peroxide molecules are broken down into
oxygen and two water molecules.
Catalase is an important enzyme that protects cells from oxidative damage, which hydrogen peroxide
can cause. It is an incredibly efficient enzyme where one catalase molecule can convert millions of
hydrogen peroxide molecules each second.
This experiment looked at how substrate concentration can affect enzyme activity. In this case the
substrate was hydrogen peroxide and the enzyme was catalase. Pieces of meat providing the catalase
were added to increasing concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in order to measure the effect of
hydrogen peroxide concentrations on the enzyme s activity. The variable measured was oxygen
produced, as water would be too difficult to measure with basic equipment.
Research Question
What is the effect of the concentration of a hydrogen peroxide solution on catalase activity?
Hypothesis
The hypothesis is that catalase activity will increase exponentially with higher concentrations of
hydrogen peroxide until all catalase active sites are filled, in which case the

Existence of a Valid Contract

3. Damages for Breach of Contract
If, and only if, these elements are met, the plaintiff, in this case Ms. Lee, can effectively argue her case
and potentially win this case. Conversely, if Disney is able to prove that her accusations fall short of
the requirements for a breach of contract suit, Disney will be able to successfully defend against the
suit. The element of breach of contract that falls into issue in this case is whether or not there was an
actual breach of the contract s terms. Under Ms. Lee s claim of breach of contract, her argument
revolves around the ambiguity of the text within the contract. In her defense, she claims that sales of
videocassettes were authorized by the 1952 contract. Her contract stated the sale of phonographic
recordings and/or transcriptions for sale to the public, but lacked the specificity of the term
videocassettes. Ms. Lee s claim is that she was not paid what was entitled to her; the profits accrued
from the sales of video cassettes. If video cassettes are to be understood as transcriptions, her
argument holds a valid case. In contrast, under Disney s defense to the breach of contract, they base
their argument on another factor. Under their customs and usage provision of this contract, Disney
interpreted the sales of videocassettes as any other technology to be invented. Although videocassettes

discovered that violence on television is indeed one of the prime factors contributing to the increase in
violent and aggressive behavior among the youth in society. That is to say there has been a growth of

In the minds of young children, television is a source of entirely factual information regarding how the
world works. For instance, as a child I could remember imitating violent acts after watching violent
movies such as Superman, Star Wars, Star
Trek, and Rocky. It felt fun to imitate these so called heroes because it seemed like the characters in
the movies were invincible. Moreover, the main characters in the movies were always liked and
respected. There are many other examples that confirm that people imitate violence scenes on
television. For instance, the cartoon Beavis and Butthead on MTV in the United States was widely
criticized for depicting the cartoon characters shaped like cigarettes. The cartoon also gained national
attention when a young five year old fan from the United
States set fire to his house after watching the show. This was due to the fact that in one of the
episodes, Beavis and Butthead were going around setting fires to houses. Furthermore, in a resent
incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the head and
other parts of her body numerous times. As a result, the child died from being left out in the cold
because she was not able to move due to her injuries. Later the officials had discovered that the
barbaric incident was due to the fact that the children had watched the violent cartoon Mighty

Personal Librarian Interview
For this project, I interviewed Dr. Sonya Gaither, director of the Hightower Library at Gordon State
College in Barnesville, Georgia. The challenge Dr. Gaither wanted to focus on was changing
procedures within the library that have not been updated in years, specifically how the librarians on
her staff conduct appointments with students seeking research assistance through the Personal
Librarian Program.
Currently, the librarian conducting the appointment does the bulk of the work, while the student
participates very little. As a result, students do not learn evaluation skills or research techniques, and
librarians are kept busy for thirty minutes to an hour as they identify specific sources for students.
This, consequentially, leads to crowds of students, who have made appointments or walked in with a
question, waiting to work with the librarian. When asked how these appointments would ideally be
handled, Dr. Gaither said that they should be between fifteen and thirty minutes and that the student

If it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn t, it ain t. That s logic, according to
Tweedledee, a character in Lewis Carroll s famous children s work Through the Looking Glass
(Complete Works 181). Of course, Lewis Carroll is most well known for that particular book, and
maybe even more so for the first Alice book, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. The connection
between Lewis Carroll and logic is less obvious for most people. In reality, Lewis Carroll is the nom

His hope that it might be of real service to the young, and be taken up, in High Schools and in private

incorporation of such logic games and problems in all of his children s books (qtd Braithwaite 174).
His love of chess and card games is apparent in his Alice books; each contains characters that are
portrayed by cards or pieces in a chess game. The two books, especially Through the Looking Glass,
are rich in mathematical humor. In the latter, Alice takes a journey into the reversed world behind the
Looking Glass, allowing Dodgson to introduce not only reversals of space, but reversals of time as
well this world is abundant in left and right symmetries. The Tweedle brothers, who are mirror images

God promised Abraham and Sarah a child, but she did not bear a son, Isaac, until age 90 (Genesis

Isaac, Rebekah s husband, prayed fervently, and God answered, resulting in the births of Jacob and

Rachel prayed, and at long last God opened her womb. She bore two sons, Joseph and Benjamin

Comparing John Wilmot s A Satire Against Reason And Mankind
John Wilmot, a writer from the seventeenth century, uses several literary devices to drive his point
home. One of his most famous poems, A Satire Against Reason and Mankind , is unique in many
ways. It uses several literary devices that create a paradox between the author s words and the satirical
nature of his razor sharp wit. During Wilmot s time, several authors such as John Locke and Thomas
Hobbes use their own wit and intelligence to define, attack, and attempt to explain reason. Not only is
reason a common theme among the writers of this century, each writer is tied to the church and
religion. Wilmot s use of satire to destroy the purpose of reason creates an irony through metaphors
and verse that needs wit and reasoning to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wilmot contradicts himself as he introduces two specific interlocutors into the framework of the
narrative. These interlocutors, the clergy (band and beard) and the adversary, create chaos and
simplicity irony in and of itself to reconstruct mankind s ability to reason. The clergy uses a simple
and direct approach to explaining why mankind was given the ability to reason. God himself intended
for mankind to rule over animals and beasts. Wilmot states, Whom his creator took such care to make,
/ that from himself he did the image take, / and this fair frame in shining reason dressed, / to dignify
his nature above beasts (2304). This irony shows that man was given the very thing that Wilmot rails
against reason. As for the adversary, his response to Wilmot s argument fabricates a narrative filled
with chaos. Knight explores this issue further and he states, The adversary s remarks represent a break
in both the content and structure of the poem. They give the speaker a specific position against which
to argue and a specific audience against which to direct his arguments ( Knight 256). This implies that
the interlocutor was created to help Wilmot expound on his argument through a continued

Description And Overview Of Trauma Specific Intervention
Description and Overview of Trauma Specific Intervention Internal Family Systems (IFS) was
developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz PhD. from feedback he gathered from clients. Through his work
as a family therapist Schwartz had received training in systems thinking and family therapy theory. Dr
Schwartz believed he was truly able to listen to the individuals in his care once he set aside his
preconceived ideas of therapy and the human mind. Clients would describe various experiences which
Dr. Schwartz believed were seen as different parts of their inner self. Dr. Schwartz noticed how a

Major Treatment Components The use of IFS treatment is generally used when clients have been
determined through assessment to have experienced severe traumatic event. In the IFS system, the
centre of this diverse collection of parts is the Self, which we may experience as a core self or true self
(Johnston, 2001). In the IFS model, the parts fall into three categories: Managers, Exiles and
Firefighters. It should be noted some therapist call the firefighters, protectors. The self works within
the primary types of parts called the firefighters and the exiles. The Manager parts are found in typical
roles ones we view as our inner critic, pleaser, organizer, judge, our intellectual self. Our Managers
work hard anticipating what others want from us and they feel anxious when criticized, rejected or
abandoned. They like to keep us in line and in top form with their ambitions, goals, and lists
(Johnston, 2001). The firefighters are the parts you usually encounter first in exploring yourself. Their
job is to handle the world and protect against the pain of the exiles. (Earley, 2016). Exiles take on pain
and burdens from what they experienced as children (or occasionally at other times). Locked away,
hidden deep in the psyche, the younger parts are often barely detectable. Acting like Exiles, they are
locked away in an earlier time, still feeling the same hurt. We may view theses Exiles as in some sort
of time warp unable to understand other parts

Analysis Of Orange Is The New Black By Piper Kerman
We were a clan of doctors and lawyers and teachers, with the odd nurse, poet, or judge thrown into the
mix. (Kerman, 5). Piper Kerman came from a family that resident from Boston, Massachusetts with no
intention of returning home Kerman started her adventure. Graduating from Smith College with a
degree in Theater she was already going against the norms for her family. With no set plans after her
graduation, the involvement of drug smuggling influenced her life by being incarcerated for the crime.
Within the memoir, Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman, symbolism is used through everyday
items to represent the awareness of human character and allowing the prisoners to latch onto and
allow them to keep some value of their life. Memoirs are written to tell the unfiltered story of an event
in an individual s life. Every memoir is written differently occurring to how the individual would like
to focus his or her story. Kerman s idea of a memoir differs from the previous memoir we recently
read. The idea of telling not only her story but also the stories of the individuals that are also being
incarcerated with her. With that being said, it seems that Kerman s audience consists of any person
who is not incarcerated, any person who isn t behind bars. She really focuses on stories that truly
define how the prisoners are treated and what they experience during their sentencing. It is important
to Kerman and the other inmates that people hear the truth of what is really happening

Examples Of Propaganda In Augustus Of Primaporta
Throughout history, propaganda has been used as a means to spread a political message. Shown above
are two different examples of propaganda, each from a different time period and society. On the left is
Augustus of Primaporta, a marble statue carved in Rome during the 1st century C.E. To the right is
Chairman Mao en Route to Anayan, an oil on canvas painted by Liu Chunhua in the People s Republic
of China during 1967. While seemingly distinct in visual appearance, both pieces incorporate similar
aspects from society that contribute to the overall intent. Each piece implements certain elements from
society that are considered to be idealized, resulting in an almost god like representation of their
respective leader. As the first emperor of Rome, Augustus sought to demonstrate his military and
physical strength. In Augustus of Primaporta, he is portrayed as muscular and commanding, with his
hand outstretched as if he is addressing his troops. Then, shown to his right is a dolphin, symbolizing
his recent naval victory at the Battle of Actium. However, due to the differences between societies,
Mao chose to be depicted as wise rather than strong. Directly before Mao en Route to Anayan was
created, Mao launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in an effort to fix the economic ...

A Brief Look at Guantanamo Bay
today Guantanamo Bay has been a big topic in today s society. On his campaign trail, President
Obama pledged, I will close Guantanamo bay detention center within a year of being elected . My
main argument has to be the amount of money were wasting on this prison. To be specific according to
democratic lawmakers it has skyrocketed to $2.7 million per inmate. Guantanamo has been dubbed
the most expensive prison on earth. President Barack Obama in May citied its cost then calculated at
about $900,000 per prisoner. That s one of the many reasons to close it. My evidence supports my
topic sentence because it just states fact of why this expensive prison should be shut down. It s
common sense would you rather have all the money the tax payers ... Show more content on

Seems unfair right? But if that doesn t convince you that this prison is worthless then this might. The
pentagon wants to more improvements on the prison and spend more of YOUR hard working money. I
guarantee you that the shutdown of this prison will bring a lot of great benefits. First the spending of
ridiculous money on a prison will be out of the picture. Second the boycotts in front of the white
house and government building will stop. People that want this prison close will do everything they
can to get it shut down and create something more productive that can benefit everyone in the United
States for the future.
Even though my main argument has to be the amount of money we re wasting on this prison, they
should close down the prison because we can t be wasting that much money on inmates that should be
dead. The United State citizens who are paying from their taxes are not agreeing with this prison
instead of wasting the money on that they can help the economy boost back up.
The most important reason they should close the prison down has to be the amount of money we are
wasting on it. We waste $2.7 million dollars a year on EACH inmate. If this doesn t seem legit all the
money budget can be found very quickly. We need all our money to go to us and help us boost up our
economy. The prison isn t worth keeping and having those inmates being kept there.
The smart thing to do in a scenario like this has to be is shutting the prison down and save our money

Rose For Emily Plot
A Rose for Emily is an interesting story about Emily Grierson s life, separated into parts, explained by
the narrator. There are five parts to this story and each of them has a unique significance to the story.
Throughout the story, a plot is developed and told by the narrator. The development of this plot
directly shapes the events that take place. Plots vary from story to story, but the basic meaning is still
there. A plot is defined as a sequence of interrelated events that make up its basic narrative structure.
Mostly, plots have a definite beginning, middle and end. Most of the time, a story has a chronological
plot, and in A Rose for Emily s case it is chronological throughout five parts. The plots purpose is to

Part two ventures into Emily relationship with a man named Homer Barron, a construction worker
who works on the sidewalks. Emily and Barron s relationship is frowned upon because of their
differences in values, social class, and territorial backgrounds, according to the people of the town.
This is the complication aspect of the plot because the conflict is how the townspeople think the
relationship between Emily and Homer is inappropriate due to social differences and background. It
seems Emily and her family are somewhat royal to the people around town, and rather wealthy. This is
why the townspeople are so nosy into Emily s life, because her and her family are the talk of the town.
Part three has Emily s father pass away, and Emily secluding herself and then getting sick from it.
Emily does not have a cold, more like a mental breakdown because she lost her father. This is the
crisis stage of the plot, because Emily s father died, and it doesn t seem like she has any other family
around, so it was a hard hit. Part four has Emily according to the townspeople, preparing for her
wedding. The townspeople find out about a possibility of a wedding after Emily is found buying a
bunch of men s bathroom items, apparently there is a correlation. After all of this is found out, Homer
Barron leaves town and is not around until he is seen entering Emily s house and not coming back out.

How does Owen s portrayal of the relationship between youth and war move us to a deeper
understanding of suffering? As an anti war poet, Wilfred Owen uses his literary skills to express his
perspective on human conflict and the wastage involved with war, the horrors of war, and its negative
effects and outcomes. As a young man involved in the war himself, Owen obtained personal
objectivity of the dehumanisation of young people during the war, as well as the false glorification
that the world has been influenced to deliver to them. These very ideas can be seen in poems such as
Anthem for Doomed Youth and Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori . Owen uses a variety of
literary techniques to convey his ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the subject of nightmare is only in two lines of the whole poem, this minor contribution is
highly effective for it allows the audience access to the traumatising aftermath of the horrors of war.
Wilfred Owen exhibits dehumanisation at an early stage in the poem Anthem for Doomed Youth . The
first line already connotes such idea, What passing bells for these who die as cattle? This metaphor
represents the soldiers as cattle for they are slaughtered like cows, and at a much too young age.
Dehumanisation is also indicated through the improper celebratory send off they receive after death,
where there is a lack of appropriate commemoration. No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells
. These factors demean the value of the young lives lost, therefore showing dehumanisation. Similar to
Anthem for Doomed Youth, the idea of dehumanisation in Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori is
also introduced early in the poem. The first lines, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks , and
Knock kneed, coughing like hags both describe the condition in which young people of the war
suffered through. The similes allow the audience to visualise the soldiers more accurately. They are
portrayed somewhat so weak and devaluated, look and feel much older than they are; in general, not at
all possessing the qualities

within a society s population whereby these are changes from high levels of crude birth and death
rates with a low rate of natural increase to lower levels of crude death and birth rates yet still having a
low rate of natural increase and having a higher total population, and all of these changes that occurs

and gathering to get food and when there was enough food for everyone population used to increase
on the other hand if food was hard to find they usually saw a decline in their population. Whereas
stage two it s a stage of high growth which means there is a rapid decline in death rate yet having a
rapid growth in the population, therefore having a high natural increase, this is mainly because of
improvements in medicine or access to cleaner and healthier life. Usually, countries that experience an

The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healingg
The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healing
Abstract
Caring for patients with wounds is commonly encountered in a nurse s career in most health care
settings, whether it is in neonatal, mental health, community, or aged care. In the past, wound
dressings were created to absorb all exudate, believing that dry wounds will reduce the risk of
infection. Within the last fifty years, the concept of moist wound therapy has become the most
effective approach to wound care. Before treating any wound, it is important to discover the
underlying cause and consider other possible factors that may impact on the healing process and
deliver a systematic and rational approach towards wound care assessment. Nurses must have a basic

Describing the overall appearance of the wound is necessary to classify it (Brown amp; Edwards, 200,
p.223). Open wounds can be found in pressure ulcers that involve the skin separating apart, whilst
closed wounds the skin is held together mainly by sutures [FIGURE 1 page 3] (Dealey amp; Cameron,
2008, p.68). Identifying the aetiology correctly also determine if the wound is either acute or chronic
and what depth of the tissue is affected (Brown amp; Edwards, 2008, p.227).

Apathy In American Psycho
I believe that everyone in my generation should watch the controversial film American Psycho. This
movie is essentially a social commentary on how our society is dying. It provides some examples of
the symptoms of a dying society we see in our world today, like apathy, moral decay, and affluenza.
American Psycho displays apathy in the last scene of the movie. The main character,
Patrick Bateman, had just committed mass murder the night before and confessed it to his lawyer. His
lawyer, fearing the public backlash against Patrick, essentially told him to act as if nothing happened.
Patrick was never punished for his heinous crime because no one cared enough to prosecute him. In
addition, when Patrick returned to the apartment where he murdered his friend several days before, he
found a real estate company there that was cleaning up the place and attempting to sell the apartment.
When he inspected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One scene that displays this features Patrick and his friends comparing business cards. Patrick s card is
not the best, so he has a mental breakdown. In another scene, he kills his friend because his friend
likes a different restaurant than Patrick does. Perhaps the most glaring example, however, is the scene
where he brutally stabs a homeless man to death: first, he felt bad for the homeless and said he would
help the him, but then when Patrick saw that the homeless man was absolutely pathetic by Patrick s
standards , Patrick proceeded to take out a knife and stab the homeless man to death. American Psycho
is a masterfully crafted social commentary relevant today. It shows the signs of a defective and dying
society, which include apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. This is relevant today because these three
qualities are exactly what we see today in society. American Psycho can be interpreted as a call to
action, to maintain high moral standards and to not let our wealth blind us to the needs of other

Consequences Of Civilization Dbq
A Civilization improves people s lives in comparison to the Neolithic Society as it shows an advanced
step into a social development and human society. The Neolithic Age which began around 8,000
B.C.E could be possibly describe as the greatest single change in human history, this is probably
because everything really revolves around it in our society now. As said by William Howells, Back of
History, Doubleay Co. It was dramatic, but long after, in its consequences, because everything else we
have achieved flowed out of this as a beginning... During the time of the Neolithic Revolution, people
had to set up temporary camps to live there for a while until the food begin to dwindle as starvation
was one step away with the weather changes and the animal migration! With the time passing by, they
were able to develop agriculture and with that people were able to farm instead of hunting and
gathering which lead to population expansion thus this is when a Civilization begin. With a

his biography published while being alive, something that is impressive. One of his most impressive
works was David, from the story of David and Goliath which he was able to sculpt before he turned
30. Bernini, on the other hand, was a famous Italian sculptor and architect that is also very well known
for his sculpture of David which he sculpted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a major difference we have to consider because he belonged to the Baroque style whereas
Michelangelo belonged to the Renaissance. Michelangelo David has many major differences to the
prior designs by both Donatello and Verrocchio, they were the firsts to create a statue about the story
of David and Goliath. In both Donatello and Verrocchio s David, David is considerably younger,
compared to Michelangelo s. A major difference between Donatello and Verrocchio s David vs.
Michelangelo and Bernini s is that on the latter there is no head of Goliath in their feet. Due to the
time which latter artists belonged to, that wasn t a common. It is also important to consider that
Michelangelo s David is very unrealistic. Due to the fact that he was going to be placed outside in a
plaza, the design was made to be looked at from the bottom to the top. The statue has a very large
head and particularly big hands in comparison to an actual person s. It was very uncommon for
Michelangelo to do this. Bernini s David on the other hand is life sized, meaning it doesn t share
Michelangelo s features of exaggerated body parts. Michelangelo s David is in contrapposto, very
common during the Renaissance, where his head is to the left in contrast of his arms. Bernini s is
supposed to represent movement, is positioned in a way that when you look at it you define him as

Latin American Culture And Globalization
Economy: An expanding international commitment to free trade among countries has internationalized
the market for goods; people have access to goods that were previously out of reach. Finally, in
addition to the exchange of goods across borders, traders move billions of dollars daily with the click
of a mouse. Some countries have been helped by the newly emerging economic order because they
have the resources to expand production worldwide and to create goods that are in demand
internationally. On the other hand, some countries and individuals have been hurt because they are not
able to compete with the strongest producers internationally. The United States is one of the world s
leading exporters and maintains a lead in many of the future s most promising industries, including
biotechnology, space technology, and computer software. U.S. corporations have sought a competitive
edge by taking advantage of cheap labor in Latin America and Asia. ... Show more content on

In one sense, globalization has produced strong pressures for harmonization of values around the
world, in particular, a value in universal human rights. In another important sense, globalization has
resulted in the emergence, interaction, and competition of many different value systems on the global
stage. While there have always been debate and discussion within cultures about values, globalization
has brought these debates to a global scale. Sometimes the interaction of differing value systems has
been a source of positive change and growth. The globalization of culture and values has brought
Western conceptions of democracy and liberty to many areas of the world in the last twenty five years.
In many cases, the internet and popular culture have helped to spread those ideas. Many people resent
the Americanization of the world and feel that the forces of globalization threaten their

The formation and subsequently the classification of soil has been at the forefront of geological scientific research since its emergence in the 19th Century. Over the course of this essay I will be considering the various classifications of soils as well as overcoming management problems they may entail. How can soil be classified in the UK? One common practice used to record classification is through mapping; carried out on varying scales by National Soil Resources Institute for England and Wales based on differences and similarities in soil profile investigations (Soffe, 2003:24; Simpson 1983:47). Soils can be classified based on their structural and textural properties, formed from Parent material (Soffe 2003:23). The primary components of soil comprise the Texture, this relating to the range of sizes of particles in the soil and their distribution. (The Macaulay Institute, 2016;Soffe, 2003:3). The texture of specific soil types will fall into one of 4 classifications; Clay, Silt, Sand or in some cases an equal percentage of each to form Loam. Soil Structure is influenced almost solely by Soil Texture (The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Failure of the Post Civil War Reconstruction Period... After the North won the civil war, it was time to rebuild this nation. This period of reconstruction was supposed to have a profound change on society. Unfortunately this was not the case. Reconstruction did not fundamentally alter this nation. Not to say that nothing happened, but nothing that really made a change or difference happened. First, the control of the south was given right back to the planter elite. Also, even though slavery was abolished; blacks were not free. Finally, Congress and President Johnson could not get along. Although the civil war reshaped this country profoundly. The reconstruction efforts did little but scratch a surface, before being quickly wiped away. After the civil war the South was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also called for any officials to swear an oath of allegiance to the union.2 After Lincoln s assassination, and Johnson s inaugeration these plans changed. Johnson pardoned all the southern leaders that were in trouble for seceding from the union. This effectively put them back in power in the South. Ultimately everything that congress and Lincoln had tried to do in the south. Taking back the power from those who seceded. As well as any help that was given to the poor whites or any blacks in the south was undone by Johnson. One of the biggest ways the reconstruction efforts failed was with giving equal rights to the black community. Although the slaves were freed it was very conditional freedom. The creation of Black codes made it seem like they were free. These codes made it possible for black families to remain intact. It also gave blacks the right to sue in court, and own property. This seems like progressive thinking at the time. The big problem with these codes is what they denied blacks. Blacks could not testify against whites. They could not own guns, or travel without permits. Although slavery had ended blacks were still being controlled. Without slaves to work in the fields the plantation owners needed workers. A lot of them would rent out their land to newly freed blacks. In exchange these poor blacks would have to give up 2/3 of their crop.3 The rest would be used to pay off their debts. This would ... The moves can generate an increase in local and state tax dollars from hotel lodging, home sales and spending on items necessary for daily living such as clothing, food, gas and entertainment. When searching for funding for these stadiums and workers to construct the project, many cities opt to subsidize the cost. • 11. The Effect of Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration on Catalase... Introduction H2O2 is commonly known as hydrogen peroxide and it is a strong oxidizer and a naturally produced compound in humans as a by product of oxidative metabolism. Because of this, humans also produce the enzyme catalase peroxidases in order to convert small amounts of H2O2 into oxygen and water. It uses the following chemical formula: 2H_2 O_2→O_2+〖2H〗_2 O This process is called decomposition as two hydrogen peroxide molecules are broken down into oxygen and two water molecules. Catalase is an important enzyme that protects cells from oxidative damage, which hydrogen peroxide can cause. It is an incredibly efficient enzyme where one catalase molecule can convert millions of hydrogen peroxide molecules each second. This experiment looked at how substrate concentration can affect enzyme activity. In this case the substrate was hydrogen peroxide and the enzyme was catalase. Pieces of meat providing the catalase were added to increasing concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in order to measure the effect of hydrogen peroxide concentrations on the enzyme s activity. The variable measured was oxygen produced, as water would be too difficult to measure with basic equipment. Research Question What is the effect of the concentration of a hydrogen peroxide solution on catalase activity? Hypothesis The hypothesis is that catalase activity will increase exponentially with higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide until all catalase active sites are filled, in which case the ... The element of breach of contract that falls into issue in this case is whether or not there was an actual breach of the contract s terms. Her contract stated the sale of phonographic recordings and/or transcriptions for sale to the public, but lacked the specificity of the term videocassettes. If video cassettes are to be understood as transcriptions, her argument holds a valid case. In contrast, under Disney s defense to the breach of contract, they base their argument on another factor. Description And Overview Of Trauma Specific Intervention Description and Overview of Trauma Specific Intervention Internal Family Systems (IFS) was developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz PhD. from feedback he gathered from clients. Through his work as a family therapist Schwartz had received training in systems thinking and family therapy theory. Dr Schwartz believed he was truly able to listen to the individuals in his care once he set aside his preconceived ideas of therapy and the human mind. Clients would describe various experiences which Dr. Schwartz believed were seen as different parts of their inner self. Dr. Schwartz noticed how a person s parts which were identified as confidence, openness and compassion acted as a center around which various parts constellate (or bring together in one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Major Treatment Components The use of IFS treatment is generally used when clients have been determined through assessment to have experienced severe traumatic event. In the IFS system, the centre of this diverse collection of parts is the Self, which we may experience as a core self or true self (Johnston, 2001). In the IFS model, the parts fall into three categories: Managers, Exiles and Firefighters. It should be noted some therapist call the firefighters, protectors. The self works within the primary types of parts called the firefighters and the exiles. The Manager parts are found in typical roles ones we view as our inner critic, pleaser, organizer, judge, our intellectual self. Our Managers work hard anticipating what others want from us and they feel anxious when criticized, rejected or abandoned. They like to keep us in line and in top form with their ambitions, goals, and lists (Johnston, 2001). The firefighters are the parts you usually encounter first in exploring yourself. Their job is to handle the world and protect against the pain of the exiles. (Earley, 2016). Exiles take on pain and burdens from what they experienced as children (or occasionally at other times). Locked away, hidden deep in the psyche, the younger parts are often barely detectable. Acting like Exiles, they are locked away in an earlier time, still feeling the same hurt. Piper Kerman came from a family that resident from Boston, Massachusetts with no intention of returning home Kerman started her adventure. Graduating from Smith College with a degree in Theater she was already going against the norms for her family. With no set plans after her graduation, the involvement of drug smuggling influenced her life by being incarcerated for the crime. Within the memoir, Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman, symbolism is used through everyday items to represent the awareness of human character and allowing the prisoners to latch onto and allow them to keep some value of their life. Memoirs are written to tell the unfiltered story of an event in an individual s life. Every memoir is written differently occurring to how the individual would like to focus his or her story. Kerman s idea of a memoir differs from the previous memoir we recently read. The idea of telling not only her story but also the stories of the individuals that are also being incarcerated with her. With that being said, it seems that Kerman s audience consists of any person who is not incarcerated, any person who isn t behind bars. She really focuses on stories that truly define how the prisoners are treated and what they experience during their sentencing. Shown above are two different examples of propaganda, each from a different time period and society. On the left is Augustus of Primaporta, a marble statue carved in Rome during the 1st century C.E. To the right is Chairman Mao en Route to Anayan, an oil on canvas painted by Liu Chunhua in the People s Republic of China during 1967. While seemingly distinct in visual appearance, both pieces incorporate similar aspects from society that contribute to the overall intent. Each piece implements certain elements from society that are considered to be idealized, resulting in an almost god like representation of their respective leader. As the first emperor of Rome, Augustus sought to demonstrate his military and physical strength. In Augustus of Primaporta, he is portrayed as muscular and commanding, with his hand outstretched as if he is addressing his troops. Then, shown to his right is a dolphin, symbolizing his recent naval victory at the Battle of Actium. Guantanamo has been dubbed the most expensive prison on earth. President Barack Obama in May citied its cost then calculated at about $900,000 per prisoner. But if that doesn t convince you that this prison is worthless then this might. The pentagon wants to more improvements on the prison and spend more of YOUR hard working money. Second the boycotts in front of the white house and government building will stop. People that want this prison close will do everything they can to get it shut down and create something more productive that can benefit everyone in the United States for the future. Even though my main argument has to be the amount of money we re wasting on this prison, they should close down the prison because we can t be wasting that much money on inmates that should be dead. The United State citizens who are paying from their taxes are not agreeing with this prison instead of wasting the money on that they can help the economy boost back up. The most important reason they should close the prison down has to be the amount of money we are wasting on it. We waste $2.7 million dollars a year on EACH inmate. If this doesn t seem legit all the money budget can be found very quickly. We need all our money to go to us and help us boost up our economy. As an anti war poet, Wilfred Owen uses his literary skills to express his perspective on human conflict and the wastage involved with war, the horrors of war, and its negative effects and outcomes. As a young man involved in the war himself, Owen obtained personal objectivity of the dehumanisation of young people during the war, as well as the false glorification that the world has been influenced to deliver to them. These very ideas can be seen in poems such as Anthem for Doomed Youth and Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori . Owen uses a variety of literary techniques to convey his ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the subject of nightmare is only in two lines of the whole poem, this minor contribution is highly effective for it allows the audience access to the traumatising aftermath of the horrors of war. Wilfred Owen exhibits dehumanisation at an early stage in the poem Anthem for Doomed Youth . The first line already connotes such idea, What passing bells for these who die as cattle? This metaphor represents the soldiers as cattle for they are slaughtered like cows, and at a much too young age. Dehumanisation is also indicated through the improper celebratory send off they receive after death, where there is a lack of appropriate commemoration. No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells . These factors demean the value of the young lives lost, therefore showing dehumanisation. Similar to Anthem for Doomed Youth, the idea of dehumanisation in Dulce ET Decorum EST Pro Patria Mori is also introduced early in the poem. The first lines, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks , and Knock kneed, coughing like hags both describe the condition in which young people of the war suffered through. The similes allow the audience to visualise the soldiers more accurately. The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healingg The Principles and Practice of Moist Wound Healing Abstract Caring for patients with wounds is commonly encountered in a nurse s career in most health care settings, whether it is in neonatal, mental health, community, or aged care. Within the last fifty years, the concept of moist wound therapy has become the most effective approach to wound care. This movie is essentially a social commentary on how our society is dying. It provides some examples of the symptoms of a dying society we see in our world today, like apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. American Psycho displays apathy in the last scene of the movie. The main character, Patrick Bateman, had just committed mass murder the night before and confessed it to his lawyer. His lawyer, fearing the public backlash against Patrick, essentially told him to act as if nothing happened. American Psycho is a masterfully crafted social commentary relevant today. It shows the signs of a defective and dying society, which include apathy, moral decay, and affluenza. In both Donatello and Verrocchio s David, David is considerably younger, compared to Michelangelo s. A major difference between Donatello and Verrocchio s David vs. Michelangelo and Bernini s is that on the latter there is no head of Goliath in their feet.
