Summary Of For He Look Not Upon Her By George Gascoigne
Love tends to be the topic of many poetic literary works, whether it be the joys that come with it or the
pains suffered because of it, but what can be made of the love that results in both? In the poem, For He
Looked Not upon Her, George Gascoigne already makes that message clear through his title:
sometimes, there is reason not to desire what we can not help but long for. When his audience reads
the work, they are meant to discover that reason behind why He would not look upon Her . Through
the speaker s form, diction, and imagery that he utilizes in the poem, it becomes clear that his tone
towards love is wary, yet also conflictingly longing.
Starting with form, we can split Gascoigne s poem into three parts that depict what love feels like in
the speaker s experience: lines 1 4, lines 5 10, and lines 11 14. In the first part, the speaker almost
seems to be addressing the audience when he says, You must not wonder... , but it soon becomes
apparent he is speaking to a specific person when he describes features in the fourth line, About the
gleams which on your face do grow. This means the first part is personal to him and him alone. Then
in lines 5 10, he offers examples of two creatures who learn from past injuries, as if backing up a
claim where he has somehow been injured as well. That claim soon follows in the last 4 lines when he
reverts back to his personal point of view, Because your blazing eyes my bale have bred. The speaker
is cautious of someone, most

Political Conflict In Riyadh And Iran
The latest developments that just unfolded in Riyadh are unsettling and carry a high risk of a regional
confrontation. An assertive Saudi crown prince is determined to consolidate power by purging
dissidents at home while escalating rhetoric abroad.
Such a diversionary approach, seemingly employed to shift attention away from domestic turmoil, is
challenging an emboldened Iranian regime whose armed proxies have been strengthening their hold
from the Levant to Yemen. While these circumstances are tantamount to an imminent war scenario
between Riyadh and Tehran, there are indications that it might not actually be the case.
On November 4, within the span of few hours, two major events took place: Lebanese Prime Minister

Two Saudi ambassadors in Iraq and Lebanon were appointed last week, showing a willingness to
engage. On October 25, Saudi Arabia and Iran finally agreed to have the Swiss government as a go
between for consular and diplomatic services, after breaking off diplomatic ties in early 2016.
Riyadh has returned to Iraq after a long absence, hoping to increase political influence and explore a
new market. A military confrontation with Iran is counterproductive to Saudi engagement in Iraq.
While in Syria, Saudi Arabia has been keeping a low profile with an influence restricted to elements in
the exiled civilian opposition.
Third, a confrontation is not in Iran s interest for now. The Iranian regime, which has been more
united since President Hassan Rouhani s reelection in May, is focused on reaping the economic
benefits of the nuclear deal and preserving the gains made in Syria.
Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of Iran s Revolutionary Guard, announced on October 31 that Iran
will be restricting its long range missiles to 2,000km, which can reach Israel and US interests in the
Middle East. The move was meant to reassure European countries that are beyond that missile range.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who visited Tehran on November 1, convinced Tehran to tone down
the rhetoric against the US. While Russia is focused on advancing a political solution in Syria, Iran
sees that the Syrian war will

The Song Of Wandering Aengus, By William Yeats And Seamus...
William Yeats and Seamus Heaney are both considered as the best Irish poets. Although, they are both
Irish, however, they did not always agree on the same topics. In the poem The song of wandering
Aengus written by W.B Yeats which was a one of a kind poem that shared the same theme as the poem
Digging which was written by Heaney. Regardless of the common theme, these two poems are
different for the reason that Yeats s poem refers more to cultural identity whereas Heaney s poem talks
more about family identity, mostly about his father.
The Song of Wandering Aengus poem gives the reader a great introduction to one of the famous myths
of Ireland: the mythology of love and beauty, and his infatuation with a beautiful girl. I went to blow
the fire a flame, / But something rustled on the floor, / And someone called me by my name:/It had
become a glimmering girl (lines 10 13). In these lines, Yeats mentioned the word fire which represents
enlightenment and inspiration in the Irish culture. In addition to, it also represents Yeats desire to
breath life into Ireland s literary and cultural identity as he is the enlightened one. Where he
transitioned the trout into life which shows the reflection of his desire. However, Heaney s poem
Digging does not related in anyway to the Irish mythology or culture that was referred to in the few
lines in The Song Of Wandering Aengus . Seamus Heaney prefered to cover the idea of family in his
poem and avoided the cultural identity

Descriptive Essay On The Pond
The Pond
It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had been
muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the sun
shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider,
and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes.
Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was
parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could
wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that s what we began to do. But, as we sat, the
sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn t stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and
started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road.
We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. We can keep going down here and get
there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that ll be faster. We
made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision.
I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the
brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I d hit the web, panic
and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We d get back up, rinse and repeat for
about another mile. Once we were back

To What Extent Did The Europeans Dominate African Nations
What urged the Europeans to dominate African nations? Before the 19th century, Europeans feared
entering Africa due to disease, such as malaria, until they invented a cure in 1820. Improved
technology allowed them to venture into the country and investigate. An abundant of factors promoted
the extensive endeavor. Politics, cultural attitudes, and economics drove the European forces to invade
Africa.
In the world of politics, it was a crucially intense race for the control of African nations between
European countries. In the Berlin conference, each country was ambitious to authorize as much
territory as possible. Therefore this spiked the cause of fierce competition over areas. In the map
partition of Africa, Britain and France were the most

Zodiac Analysis
The Monster Within In Zodiac, written by Robert Graysmith he says, Just because you can t prove it
does not mean it is not true. This premise was completely accurate and disheartening for David
Toschi, the lead detective on the case because he could not uncover concrete evidence to convict
Arthur Leigh Lee Allen. Lee was the prime suspect in the investigation and all signs pointed to him
being Zodiac, which was the main similarity between the publication and motion picture. In addition,
the text contained two prime suspects, but the feature film fixated on one. Graysmith later went to say,
The film ends by hinting that Zodiac may be the man behind you in the theatre (Zodiac). He was
articulating how they should be vigilant at all times because Zodiac could be the person juxtaposed to
them and never know it. People may look ordinary but in reality, everybody is insane, some just
suppress it better than others. Zodiac written by Graysmith had several parallels with the motion
picture directed by David Fincher, but the main similarity was the accusation of Arthur Leigh Allen
being Zodiac. Both the novel and the film focused on Lee being the main suspect considering all signs
pointed to him, even though law enforcement officers did not have sufficient evidence to validate it.
Zodiac allegedly murdered 37 civilians, although only 7 were substantiated to be Zodiac with 2
survivors: Mike Mageau and Bryan Hartnell. However, the cinema and publication both prompted
scrutiny to the deaths of David Faraday, Betty Lou Jensen, Darlene Ferrin, Cecelia Shepard, and Paul
Stine. Each of their unfortunate demises all corresponded to Lee s whereabouts (Zodiac). The timeline
made an impeccable match, but the evidence was not substantial for conviction. Lee was the only
suspect served with a search warrant, after searching Lee s trailer they uncovered incriminating
evidence, but his handwriting did not match Zodiac s (Collins). Lee went through handwriting tests
that the police arranged for him and much to their dismay the handwriting expert determined there
was no correlation from Zodiac s letters to the handwriting submissions Lee presented (Grinell). The
only known sign of the Zodiac logo was on a watch and

The Mission Statement Of The Healthy Marriage Initiatives
Healthy Marriage Initiative
To help couples, who have chosen marriage for themselves, gain greater access to marriage education
services, on a voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to form and
sustain a healthy marriage ( Healthy Marriage Initiative , 2012). This is the Healthy Marriage
Initiatives Mission statement. As part of Welfare reform, President George W. Bush implemented the
Healthy Marriage Initiative. It was enacted to address the growing issues low income families have
been facing for decades, including social problems that affect both children and the parent. This paper
will address the background, implementation, oversight, cost, and outcomes of the Healthy Marriage
Initiative.
A little background, from 1935 to 1996 a federal assistance program managed by The Department of
Health and Human Services, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children(AFDC) provided
assistance to the children of low income families. Initially, the program was restricted to white
women, but after some adjustment, the government graciously (insert sarcasm) permitted people of
color to claim the benefit. As time went on, officials (and citizens) felt it was encouraging women to
become single mothers and avoid joining the workforce. These concerns led to the development of
The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996(PRWORA), Under
this act, AFDC was replaced by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

Graduation Speech On Teaching And Learning And Interactive...
I enrolled in the Certificate in the University Teaching (CUT) program in spring 2014 right after
completing the FUT program in winter 2014. Through the GS901 workshops, I learned about students
traits and attitudes toward learning and interactive teaching through active learning. With regards to
course design, I learned the importance of having an organized, yet flexible, course plan that is
designed in equilibrium with course objectives and assessments. Teaching observation practicum,
provided me with an opportunity to assess my teaching from the perspective of an experienced
educator. Below, I will discuss the elements and strategies that I have experimented with based on the
comments and suggestions I received.
COLLECTIVE LEARNING:
One of the key elements in teaching undergraduate classes is to create a learning environment that
cultivates critical thinking and mastery of concepts. As an instructor, I have experienced with various
active learning methods to keep my students engaged and motivated. Within the pedagogy toolbox, I
found the element of discovery to be the most effective way of teaching. In my classes, before even
explaining a new concept, I usually pose a question to class and ask my students to find a solution. I
ask my students to work in pairs (and sometimes groups) to come up with a solution without them
knowing the new concepts. The idea is to assist them to discover the new concepts by thinking out of
the box and trying different approaches. During

Internal And External Factors That Affect The Core...
Professional football clubs need revenue. It is vital to the financial survival of a club as they have
ultimately become a business. Money is a vital necessity to enable the club to function. From paying
ground rent to the funding of the youth system and to even signing players for the clubs, it is
fundamental that a club is making a profit. The owners of the clubs will want to see profits being
made otherwise the club will eventually no longer be able to function. In this assignment I will be
exploring the ways in which Internal and external factors have an impact on the core revenues of
Clubs and how clubs themselves can potentially help put the factors in their favour. Topics such as
Fans and their behaviour and Player conduct on and off the pitch will be explored. Things that can
occur which clubs have little or no power over such as a major political shift which can affect a clubs
income will also be covered. One of the most obvious ways a club can make money is through ticket
sales. Supporters of the clubs in question and also neutral spectators will all pay the club to watch the
match. To ensure that the club continues to hold or expand its fan base the club will have to be
somewhat successful in its competitive competitions. Clubs who are less competitive in their
competitions will generally have less of a following than a more dominant club. Another way to bring
in fans is to also give them a good match day experience. Catering, comfort and ease of access

Teaching And Learning For Students With Disabilities
In order for students with disabilities to learn in a science classroom, there needs to be a balanced
approach to learning that includes both instructed and constructed learning activities. Direct teaching
and mnemonic strategies can be used in order for students to learn vocabulary and facts. Text structure
comprehension and summarization strategies can be implemented to help students read science
textbooks. Graphic organizers and framed outlines can help improve learning of abstract concepts.
Students with disabilities can also benefit from hands on science, where they learn from experience.
Research has shown positive effects from the use of hands on activities with students who have
disabilities and concrete activities. Direct, explicit, targeted questioning, and deductive thinking,
through the use of coached elaborations, can improve learning for students with disabilities during
hands on science lessons. Students with disabilities may be able to perform experiments and activities,
but may not be able to draw conclusions or transfer learning like their peers. Differentiated curriculum
enhancements, embedded in materials, can help all students. Peer tutoring and cooperative learning
have also been shown to be effective in increased engagement and motivation of students, including
those with disabilities, in science classrooms (Scruggs Mastropieri, 2007). Aydeniz, Cihak, Graham,
and Retinger (2012) investigated students with learning disabilities in order to improve

Speech On Fireworks
Fireworks on New Years Eve Brandon Carlin
Should the taxpayers of Australia be spending large amounts of money for very costly and short 15 30
minute displays of fireworks on New Years Eve . Good morning, Mrs Arnold, Ms Shiels and fellow
classmates. Today I would like present to you why I believe fireworks on New years eve are a waste
of money and why the amount spent on fireworks should be reduced and how all this money could be
spent in a way that would be more beneficial towards not only the people that suffer in third world
countries and the people that beg for money to stay alive but also the communities. In Sydney alone,
the total cost of the firework display on New Years Eve was worth approximately 7.2 million dollars
which ran for a duration of 20 minutes. This is equivalent to $360,000 per minute. Imagine all the
lives you could save if this money was put towards saving the lives of those that barely survive day in,
day out. Fireworks also leave behind harmful products that have an affect on the community.
This change is going to effect the amount of jobs available for pyrotechnicians but in return they could
work around this by figuring way to reducing the total cost of fireworks but still keeping a decent

Vanessa Vadim whom is an environmental activist says that fireworks are an environmental disaster.
She explains all the colours and explosions have to come from somewhere and they leave behind
harmful toxins. The gunpowder alone which is used for combustion leaves behind things such as
potassium carbonate, potassium sulphate and sulphide, plus unreacted sulphur and levels of fine
particulates that cause asthma, cancer and other respiratory problems . This also makes the air exceed
national quality standards. If we have less fireworks and a safer environment this will potentially

Justice Department was investigating the company s March 2006 agreement with Canadian generic
drug manufacturer Apotex. The agreement was intended to delay the Apotex s release of an
inexpensive generic version of Plavix.
Under the terms of Bristol Myers ill conceived agreement with Apotex, BMS offered Apotex $40
million to halt production of the generic Plavix until June 1, 2011. This date was five months before
the Plavix patent was set to expire. Bristol Myers also agreed not to release its own non branded
Plavix until six months after Apotex began to sell its generic version of the blood thinner. When asked
to approve the agreement, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state Attorneys General
objected to these provisions. They labelled the Bristol Myers concession anti competitive because it
assured that Apotex would be the sole market vendor of cheap, generic Plavix for at least six months.
So, Bristol Myers Squibb agreed to remove the anti competitive provision from the contract.
Nevertheless, the FTC began questioning Apotex regarding the revised agreement. During these
questioning sessions, Apotex told the federal regulators that Bristol Myers had given Apotex private
assurance that it would not release a general version of Plavix to the market.

American Identity In Daniel James Brown s The Boys In The...
American identity is a concept that has never truly been defined. Though anyone is at freedom to
come up with their own personal definition of this concept, it proves near impossible to place meaning
on this imposing subject. To author Daniel James Brown, the definition of American identity was not a
matter of picking the right words, but rather examining the actions of everyday Americans. In his book
The Boys in the Boat, he delves into the topic of the nine man rowing team who would go on to defeat
Germany in the 1936, Berlin Olympics. This novel is important to the definition of American Identity
because of the backgrounds of the boys, the process they had to go through, and what their victory

It specifically centers upon the life of Joe Rantz, whom Brown had met and interviewed for many
months after deciding to write this book. Rantz is in many ways similar to the other eight boys as they
all had to struggle with the economic and environmental disasters that plagued America in the 1930 s.
Following the stock market crash in 1929, the country was going through the Great Depression
(History.com). This event left many Americans without jobs, and banks began to close rapidly taking
with them more than $2.5 billion in deposits (History.com). People struggled to raise enough money to
be able to feed their families, and often resorted to doing hard labor or odd jobs to make ends meet. As
difficult as this was, it was not the end of the hardships that were faced in this time. Another event
called the Dust Bowl ravaged its way through America. Including a massive drought, heat waves, and
wind storms, there was little land left that was able to farm (History.com).

Bias In 12 Angry Men
The movie 12 Angry Men, directed by Sidney Lumet, introduces twelve jury members each one
coming from a different background. The experiences and personalities of these men play a critical
element in the first majority vote in deciding the verdict of guilty or not guilty. Juror #3, #10, and #11
were very influential in that their opinions and thoughts on the case were determined by their own
personal bias. Therefore, a person s behavior, opinions, and thoughts are reflected on how that person
feels on the inside. Juror #3 is against the boy that is being tried and very biased towards him; this
results in how he acts during the meeting and what his thoughts are regarding the case. This bias is
due to an argument he had with his own son who punched him in the jaw and ran away from home: I

Disadvantages Of Functional Organisation
Functional Organisation F.W. Taylor, who is known as the father of scientific management developed
the concept of Functional Organisation . According to name, functional organisation implies that the
organisation ought to be based on various functions. Taylor s functional/practical approach is based on
principle of specialization and tries to cover up the organisational balance. The principle of
specialisation enlighten the concept that both the workers and the supervisors can develop or maintain
a higher degree of proficiency by separating the manual from mental requirements. Taylor
recommended that there ought to be functionalisation even at the lowest(shop) level where workers
are producing goods. He felt that the usual practice of putting one foreman supervisor of some forty to

However, prior to taking this course, there were questions I had and requirements that I was unaware
of that TTUHSC School of medicine requires. Prerequisites that an individual must complete are as
follow: six hours of biology, six hours of upper division biology, two biology labs, six hours of
general chemistry, two general chemistry labs, six hours of organic chemistry, two organic chemistry

TTUHSC are: the main application (TMDSAS and/or AMCAS), secondary application, MCAT score,
letters of evaluation, transcripts from all attended colleges and universities, photos, and application

Fee is $60.00). The Office of Admissions of TTUHSC will then review the applications of all
individuals whom meet the entrance requirements. It is no surprise that the admissions office does not
only look at grades and test scores, but the committee members look for the characteristics of who the
applicant is such as their compassion, ethics, motivation, maturity, and personal integrity. As stated by

Why Christians Need AAnchor
No boat would be complete if it lacked an anchor. With no way to secure it in place, the boat would
simply drift to sea aimlessly, meaning a total loss for its owner. Christians, a religious group that
claims to follow the Man Jesus who was executed years ago, claim that our soul needs an anchor just
as badly as a boat. The soul , according to them, is the immortal part of man that exists within the
physical body, but will continue to live after the body has deceased. This spiritual part of mankind is
in need of an anchor to keep it rooted, and they teach that Jesus is that anchor. An anchor must hold
fast no matter how hard the wind gusts or how boisterous the waves become. Those on the ship must
be able to have faith that the anchor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see the promises that He made to Abraham and to other men, and then we see that He always kept
those promises. God has never failed to keep His word, and He never will. Because He has confirmed
Jesus, we can be anchored by our hope in Him, without wavering! God cannot lie! If He says it, He
means it. When God tells me that I can have hope and faith in His Son, I believe Him! It is abundantly
clear by talking to these three Christians, as well as others, that these people have absolutely no doubt
in the Man they call their Savior. Such confidence is rare to say the least, but not everyone feels that
the assurance the Christians have in Jesus is warranted. A local worshipper of the god Saturn stated, I
just don t get how they can have a steadfast hope in someone who is just a Man! I know that Saturn is
not a man, he is a god! I can come to this temple and see an image of him, something tangible. But
there is no such thing for these Christians. There s nothing physical to even show who this Jesus is!
While many may disagree with them, the hope that Christians have in this Man is unwavering and
they truly believe their soul is securely anchored. In light of this, it seems possible that there may be
some validity to Christianity after

John Stuart Mill s On Liberty
John Stuart Mill s On Liberty essay, published in 1859, portrays Mill s perception of liberty with an
emphasis on individuality. He explicitly states at the start of the essay that the main point is to govern
absolutely the dealings of society with the individual in the way of compulsion and control (5). His
push to establish the basic guidelines for the relationship between authority and liberty is a result of
his ethical theory of utilitarianism. Throughout the course of this essay, Mill provides the reader with a
deeper understanding of their individual civil liberties, as well as presenting examples that enhance his
ideas. Mill begins this essay with an introductory chapter that immediately questions the nature and
limits of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The introduction of the essay provides a better understanding for the foundation of Mill s beliefs, as
well as preparing the audience to examine Mill s next point focused thought and discussion. In
Chapter 2, Mill discusses the problem of people, both individuals and those in government, coercing
the opinions of others. Mill states that the power itself is illegitimate , meaning that it is unjust to
silence the opinion of an individual. (21) He believes that there is a peculiar evil in silencing the
opinion of an individual, and that evil is robbing the human race of helping better understand not only
that particular opinion but also opposing opinions (21). He first defends his claim by asserting that
society is harmed by the silencing of opinion because it could be true. With this argument, Mill begins
to refute any criticisms of his work. He responds to four main critics, first discussing how a person is
only deserving of confidence if they are open to contradicting opinions through experience and
discussion. According to Mill, No wise man ever acquired his wisdom in any mode but this and that
an individual cannot become wise in any other manner e.g. (24). Following this, Mill states that The
usefulness of an opinion is itself matter of opinion , as it is different for everyone (27). To help
strengthen his argument, he uses the persecutions of Socrates and Jesus Christ as examples of
mistakes made by popular opinions, as

Classical Music s Influence On The Beatles
Classical Music s Influence on the Beatles In this essay I am going to look at the way that classical, in
particular baroque, music has affected music of the 20th century. To do this I have chosen three beatles
songs and compared them directly to music by Bach and Beethoven. I hope to find many correlations
between the two pieces of music in each case. The first song I have chosen is the song Blackbird.
McCartney has claimed that the music was inspired by Bach s Bouree in E minor, of which he and
George Harrison had learned to play at a young age. https://www.youtube.com/watch?

index=1 Blackbird Bouree In E Minor (Bach) Musically, the songs at first glance aren t that similar,
for example the song Blackbird is majoritively in a major key, whereas Bach s Bouree in E Minor, as
named, is in a minor key. This is a seemingly large difference but Blackbird is in G major and
therefore the relative major key of E minor. The two keys are very closely related and add to the
similarities between the two pieces. The Bourrée is distinguished by melody and bass notes played
simultaneously on the upper and lower strings. McCartney adapted a segment of the Bourrée and
reharmonized it into the relative major key of G as the opening of Blackbird, . He then carried the
musical idea throughout the song. This song also makes use of baroque like counterpoint melodies.
Part of its structure is a particular

I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie Olsen
Women have for many years struggled with balancing the demands of home, children and work. This
is especially true for young single mothers who do not have the support of family.
I Stand Here Ironing written by Tillie Olsen is a short story that reflects on the struggles of a single
mother who looks back on the past and tries to assess the effect her decisions and circumstances had
on her young daughter, Emily. This story is part of the awarding winning collection, Tell Me A Riddle,
which was first published in 1961 (Wolfe). This story is considered the most autobiographical of
Olsen s literary works (Piedmont Marton). The title of the story is taken from the stories opening line,
I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron (Bauer,
Olsen). The story is one of the best examples in literature, and certainly one of the first, to offer
readers a glimpse into the lives of the working class women and families from a woman s perspective.
(Piedmont Marton) This story illustrates Olsen s particular concern with the difficulties faced by
women . (Wolfe) As the story unfolds, Olsen uses distinct character traits, imagery, tone, and style to
create a dramatic sense of the mother s internal debate of her own feelings. The tone of this story is
one of fear, regret, and guilt. The story first leaves the reader with impression that it may be a recount
of the life of a daughter who was lost due to neglect. Soon it is evident

In This Paper, I Plan To Argue The Ideas By Edward Conard,
In this paper, I plan to argue the ideas by Edward Conard, in his argument that we don t need more

gaps in his arguments and counter arguments in this topic. My argument is important because I will
challenge Conard s article with the self fashioning s article by Keohane.
In Conard s article, he demonstrates to answer the question whether or not we need more humanities.
His answer is that we should be focus on technology and innovation to have a better living standards.

(43) Schools give one the time and materials to achieve all what one desire in life. (43) In the same
way, I would challenge the students to leverage their energy and time to become the best they can be
in their life. (43)
This paper also supports the self fashioning article by Keohane. Self fashioning builds the character,
personality, and focus on the student. A self fashioned student is more likely to succeed in life in
whichever line of specialization he chooses. Likewise, I disagree with Conard on the point that
innovation and technology are more likely to bring success to the student. From experience, people
who know their personality and character are able to use in their skills, time and education to be the
best in whichever field, whether in technology and innovation or humanities. In my view, success and
failure are not a factor of chosen line of specialization rather, it is a factor of hard work and
determination to create a change. Self fashioning is more fundamental and basic education, like
authority, and intelligence and it is determined by how people deal with small and basic things in life.
Things like cleaning, washing, and taking care of oneself are more important that education when it
comes to self fashioning.
In my life, the most common basic things derive from self fashioning. They include taking care of

Semi-Detached Housing Changes
In Britain there has historically always been a belief that the ideal living situation is a married
heterosexual couple with children. In this lifestyle model the male of the house is the wage earner and
the woman holds responsibility for domestic chores and rising children. This model is particular
apparent in the working classes during the early 20th century. In the years following the Second World
War housing was designed and master planned in a way that embodied these ideologies. These
generalisations structured ideas about the location of new post war housing laying the way for married
women to be exploited in the low pay labour market. However rapid social change following the war
resulted in greater number of women being drawn into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These houses were amalgamation of retained social expectations of housework but also more
progressive architectural ideas. The period saw great change thanks in part to the influence of the
Garden City Movements and Raymond Unwin. Unwin semis featured additional living space on the
ground floor, running hot water, internalised kitchen and bathing facilities. The extra living space on
the ground floor provided an area for families to engage with everyday life and again a parlour in the
front of the house to entertain with. The changed position of the kitchen to inside the house really
demonstrates the change of gender perspective during this time, it lessened the separation of house
tasks by bringing them closer to the family. The provision of hot running water, electricity and internal
washrooms helped ease some of the labour of housework, beginning to liberate the housewife. It was
however still expected that she would prepare and serve all foods. Therefor the housewife found
herself in a funny situation of being both privileged with modern conveniences but still bound to being

Media And Negative Body Image
Body image is a huge issue around the world. It has affected so many teens, adults, and children all

generations of body image will get worse, increasing the amount of stress on young children. Body

My Journey In The Odyssey In The Odyssey
In The Odyssey by Homer, an epic poem from Ancient Greece, parallels can be drawn from Odysseus
s adventure and my life. Odysseus and I have goals that we strive to reach, furthermore, we will not
stop until we accomplish them. On our journeys to reach these goals we have temptations and
obstacles put before us that we must overcome to attain our dreams. Luckily, we have mentors and
help from divine intervention to guide us on the right path to grasp these ambitions. Odysseus s goal is
to see my native land again (Homer 142) and be reunited with his family. One of my main goals in life
is to attend college at Penn State University. Our goals may be different but one can draw multiple
parallels in our journeys. I have abounding obstacles in my way on the boulevard to my main goal.
One of these hindrances is high school. High school is proving to be the learning ground for life. It is
always providing challenges that I must overcome to reach my ambitions. One current challenge is my
senior English class. I have a feeling that it is going to take a great deal more effort than what I have
ever had to put into any academic study. I know that I will do all that I can to conquer this burden. If I
work vigorously while staying focused, I should be able to surmount the work I have to complete. I
will have to use my intelligence and cunningness to pass this class. High school draws many parallels
with Odysseus s adventure due to the fact they both have a multitude of obstacles

Interpretation Of Daimon In Greek Literature
Overall, the analysis of Greek literature reveals several ideas that are helpful in understanding the
demonology referenced in the New Testament. The different interpretations of daimon are fluid and
should not be expected to be completely consistent. Daimones are widely recognized as intermediate
beings, between the gods and men, and could be good or bad. Although Plato generally perceived
them as being good, after his time there was a tendency to assign evil actions to them. They
determined one s destiny and were responsible for exacting punishment after death. The daimon was
commonly identified with deceased souls, especially those thought to have been noble or heroic. Some

At its most basic, daimon refers to any power or activity that is divine or superhuman. Daimon has
many interpretations, though, which a fluid and sometimes overlap. At first, the term was used almost
synonymously with theos. In then came to mean a person s lot in life, similar to moira. Daimones were
characterized as general deceased souls, and then turned into guardian spirits. They were widely
recognized as intermediate beings that could with be good or bad. With the introduction of bad
daimons, there was an increasing tendency to attribute evil, demonic in a sense, actions to them.
Eventually, the daimon gained the ability to possess human beings, a significant influence on the early
Christian concept of the demon. Exorcism was widespread in the ancient role and there are several
similarities between the exorcism stories of antiquity and those found in the New Testament. The
expulsion of demons was a prominent part of Jesus ministry and the characterization of Jesus as an
exorcist was significant for showing the triumph over Satan. The demon still undergoes many more
changes after the New Testament, resulting in the demons that so often appear in horror films today.

The Boundaries Of Childhood Amnesia Essay
Understanding the boundaries of childhood amnesia has become a large discussion among researchers.
Over the years, researchers have developed multiple theories of the boundaries of childhood amnesia
for adults, adolescents, and as well for children by using different methodology of measurement
(Usher Neisser, 1993; Eacott Crawley, 1998; Macdonald et al., 2000; Peterson et al., 2000; Tusin and
Hayne 2010; Wang Peterson, 2014 2016). Childhood amnesia occurs when adults are unable to recall
memories from their childhood. Although, this definition is still up for debate on whether or not
childhood amnesia only occurs for adults, a specific gender, specific cross cultural difference, or if the
boundaries fluctuate over development (Macdonald et al., 2000; Peterson et al., 2000; Wang Peterson,
2014). While there are still many variables researcher s must consider when studying childhood
amnesia, there is a common theme that arises throughout the research. Researchers are intrigued in the
boundaries of childhood amnesia and how using different methods provides different might alter the
perspectives and outcomes for how long childhood amnesia lasts after birth (Usher Neisser, 1993;
Eacott Crawley, 1998; Macdonald et al., 2000; Peterson et al., 2000; Tusin and Hayne 2010; Wang

The Reality Of Women s Soccer
Isabel Cesarotti Dr. Barron ENC 1101 12 September 2016 The Reality of Women s Soccer One of the
clearest memories I have is of the day when my mom sat me down, looked me in the eye and said to
me that as a women in this world, I was going to have to work ten times harder as any man to
command respect. She told me that as a woman in this world, there are certain inevitabilities I have to
accept. The main one is that life is unfair. She said that accomplishments are inevitably going to be
handed to men that you feel you worked hard for and deserved. This, she said, was going to
sometimes make me feel outraged or bitter, and oftentimes make me feel worthless. She said,
however, the most important thing that I must do is simply put away my pride, roll my shoulders,
stiffen my lip and work harder than anyone. In that way, I can succeed. But what if after succeeding,
after working harder, longer and more intensely than everyone else, you achieve the most you can in
your career and realize that your hard work is meaningless? Meaningless because you simply do not
get the same respect as your male counterparts. Many professional woman soccer players are currently

Let Me Know You Essay
Let Me Know You
My work Let Me Know You is a performance: without the audiences knowing what is going to
happen, I sniff their body from toe to head like an animal, with no physical touching. The most of
audiences feel uncomfortable during the performance, others, try to sniff me back at the same time.
Humans are commonly known to have five primary senses: sight, hearing, taste, touching and smell,
governed by five important organs: eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. Smell is often ignored , though,
it plays an important role in our daily life without people noticing it. The purpose of my performance
is to remind people to explore all their senses, be more aware of the surroundings and their own body.
I developed new respects on objects that we see daily, and grew more appreciations of human nature.
Scent takes a much important position in animal s world. People who have pets often notice that cats
take long time to find biscuits near their face. It is because their sights are bad in short distance, and
they rely on nose to locate food; in the wild, big cats spray urine to make their territory, average 300
square kilometers; in the water, a shark can sense one drop of blood in a million drops of water; dogs
smells each others anus at the first time they meet, they only shut down their tails to hide their odour
when they are scared or dominated. Human, instead, are trying to conceal body odour as much as they

The genome, all the genetic material encoded within the sequence of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA),
which is unique to each individual organism, has all the information required for a cell to sustain life.
This is possible due to gene expression which is the process of the genetic code, DNA, being
translated into proteins which a cell can then utilise for specific functions whether it be a unicellular or
multicellular organism. Through this process there are many steps taken from the raw genetic code to

though there are more ways in which a gene can be regulated. For instance, DNA in eukaryotic
organisms binds tightly to histones, a type of protein, and this forms chromatin. Depending on how
decondensed the chromatin is can affect how easily the gene can be transcribed
(www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. 2017.). Processes such as these are needed throughout all branches of life,

Vimy ridge was a very important battle for the allies as holding the location would give them a great
vantage point that overlooked the vast network of trenches on either side and No Man s Land. It was
even more important to the CEF and Canada, as it was the first time they received worldwide
recognition, they were no longer seen as an afterthought of Britain. It was crucial that the allies win
this battle. The next months were spent preparing and going over strategy. During this time, Colonel
E.G. Mason was transferred to another battalion and replaced Lieutenant Colonel Page. Under new
command the 50th battalion was ready to on the offensive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With the pimple in hand it was easy for Canadian troops to push into the nearby village of Givenchy
en Gohelle, the location of the German troops. The Germans surrendered this location and retreated
from Vimy Ridge, Canada had officially won the battle of Vimy Ridge. It was during the battle of
Vimy Ridge where Henry was finally recognized for his contribution to the war. On April 14th, 1917
he was rewarded the Military Medal for his help in capturing the pimple. His official award citation
says that, Norwest showed great bravery, skill and initiative in sniping the enemy after the capture of
the Pimple. By his activity he saved a great number of our men s lives. He was very deserving of this
honor, as in this battle he achieved the sniping record for his battalion. During his three months at the
Vimy Ridge he was credited with 59 kills. Due to his humble nature he only ever claimed a kill when
he was with his spotter so it is very likely that he had even more. The battle of Vimy Ridge is one the
most famous battles of World War one as it was very important for Canada in defining the identity. It
was also very important for Private Henry Norwest as it was here where he finally deserved the
recognition he deserved by receiving the

Cosmetic Testing On Animals
Testing cosmetics on animals is not only cruel and inhumane, but it has been proven to produce
inaccurate results. Testing on animals has become an every day occurrence and routinely happens in
the cosmetic industry. It costs billions of dollars each year and produces ineffective results. Animals
are treated inhumanely during testing, as they are shaved and have chemicals spread onto their bodies
and chemicals sprayed into their eyes. Animal species are different just as animals are different from
humans so test results vary and provide inaccurate and unreliable results. The Food and Drug
Administration no longer requires testing on animals in the United States prior to the sale of
cosmetics, and we, as consumers, can help put an end to cosmetic testing on animals. Further, there
are alternative tests that cosmetic companies can use which would eliminate animal testing and
produce more accurate results. Cosmetic testing on animals costs billions of dollars each year and
often produces ineffective results. From Fact Sheet: Cosmetic Testing: The Humane Society of the
United States. Cosmetic companies are using animals to test products like skin cream, perfume, make
up and shampoo. As we spend so much money on cosmetic testing on animals, one should be
reminded how different animals really are from humans which makes results completely unreliable in
most cases. Also, different animal species tested may have one result and another animal species may
produce an entirely different result. One test result might indicate that a chemical is safe while another
test on a different type of animal might indicate that the chemical is harmful. This then provides the
cosmetic company with a failed and inaccurate testing result and could even pose risks to consumers.
This makes the testing on animals seem unnecessary since they are not accurate. Testing on animals
has been done in the past for medical and science purposes and is now being done to test cosmetics to
determine whether or not they are safe for humans. Animals are most often shaved and have chemicals
smeared onto their skin and are left for days or weeks with the chemicals on their bodies to see what
effects they have on the animal s skin. They also have

Impact Of The Great San Francisco Earthquake
Great San Francisco Earthquake
On April 18, 1906, at 5:12 am over 400 thousand lives were forever changed, due to the San Francisco
Earthquake. The 7.7 7.9 magnitude earthquake only lasted for a minute, however, the impact was
incredible. The earthquake ignited several fires that spread throughout San Francisco and lasted for
three days.
Tectonic plates make up the outermost shell of the Earth and have been moving in relation to each
other for hundreds of millions of years. Two tectonic plates, North American Plate and Pacific Plate,
meet in Western California. The boundary between these plates is a zone of faults. One of these faults
is called the San Andreas fault, which is a transform plate boundary. This means the motion between
the two relative plates is mainly horizontal. At 5:12 am, the Pacific Plate slid horizontally north west
in relation to the North American Plate, causing the earthquake along the San Andreas fault and
associated faults.1 Contemporary geologists were amazed and bewildered with the size of the
horizontal tectonic movements and the large rupture length (477km).2
The San Francisco Earthquake had a highly significant impact on the surrounding environment. The
overwhelming total death count for the earthquake and fires is estimated to be 3 thousand people. In
addition, the earthquake left 250 thousand residents homeless and destroyed 28 thousand building.3
The tremors of the earthquake destroyed San Francisco s water mains, resulting in the

  • 2. Summary Of For He Look Not Upon Her By George Gascoigne Love tends to be the topic of many poetic literary works, whether it be the joys that come with it or the pains suffered because of it, but what can be made of the love that results in both? In the poem, For He Looked Not upon Her, George Gascoigne already makes that message clear through his title: sometimes, there is reason not to desire what we can not help but long for. When his audience reads the work, they are meant to discover that reason behind why He would not look upon Her . Through the speaker s form, diction, and imagery that he utilizes in the poem, it becomes clear that his tone towards love is wary, yet also conflictingly longing. Starting with form, we can split Gascoigne s poem into three parts that depict what love feels like in the speaker s experience: lines 1 4, lines 5 10, and lines 11 14. In the first part, the speaker almost seems to be addressing the audience when he says, You must not wonder... , but it soon becomes apparent he is speaking to a specific person when he describes features in the fourth line, About the gleams which on your face do grow. This means the first part is personal to him and him alone. Then in lines 5 10, he offers examples of two creatures who learn from past injuries, as if backing up a claim where he has somehow been injured as well. That claim soon follows in the last 4 lines when he reverts back to his personal point of view, Because your blazing eyes my bale have bred. The speaker is cautious of someone, most ... • 3. Political Conflict In Riyadh And Iran The latest developments that just unfolded in Riyadh are unsettling and carry a high risk of a regional confrontation. An assertive Saudi crown prince is determined to consolidate power by purging dissidents at home while escalating rhetoric abroad. Such a diversionary approach, seemingly employed to shift attention away from domestic turmoil, is challenging an emboldened Iranian regime whose armed proxies have been strengthening their hold from the Levant to Yemen. While these circumstances are tantamount to an imminent war scenario between Riyadh and Tehran, there are indications that it might not actually be the case. On November 4, within the span of few hours, two major events took place: Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two Saudi ambassadors in Iraq and Lebanon were appointed last week, showing a willingness to engage. On October 25, Saudi Arabia and Iran finally agreed to have the Swiss government as a go between for consular and diplomatic services, after breaking off diplomatic ties in early 2016. Riyadh has returned to Iraq after a long absence, hoping to increase political influence and explore a new market. A military confrontation with Iran is counterproductive to Saudi engagement in Iraq. While in Syria, Saudi Arabia has been keeping a low profile with an influence restricted to elements in the exiled civilian opposition. Third, a confrontation is not in Iran s interest for now. The Iranian regime, which has been more united since President Hassan Rouhani s reelection in May, is focused on reaping the economic benefits of the nuclear deal and preserving the gains made in Syria. Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of Iran s Revolutionary Guard, announced on October 31 that Iran will be restricting its long range missiles to 2,000km, which can reach Israel and US interests in the Middle East. The move was meant to reassure European countries that are beyond that missile range. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who visited Tehran on November 1, convinced Tehran to tone down the rhetoric against the US. • 4. The Song Of Wandering Aengus, By William Yeats And Seamus... William Yeats and Seamus Heaney are both considered as the best Irish poets. Although, they are both Irish, however, they did not always agree on the same topics. In the poem The song of wandering Aengus written by W.B Yeats which was a one of a kind poem that shared the same theme as the poem Digging which was written by Heaney. Regardless of the common theme, these two poems are different for the reason that Yeats s poem refers more to cultural identity whereas Heaney s poem talks more about family identity, mostly about his father. The Song of Wandering Aengus poem gives the reader a great introduction to one of the famous myths of Ireland: the mythology of love and beauty, and his infatuation with a beautiful girl. I went to blow the fire a flame, / But something rustled on the floor, / And someone called me by my name:/It had become a glimmering girl (lines 10 13). In these lines, Yeats mentioned the word fire which represents enlightenment and inspiration in the Irish culture. In addition to, it also represents Yeats desire to breath life into Ireland s literary and cultural identity as he is the enlightened one. Where he transitioned the trout into life which shows the reflection of his desire. However, Heaney s poem Digging does not related in anyway to the Irish mythology or culture that was referred to in the few lines in The Song Of Wandering Aengus . Seamus Heaney prefered to cover the idea of family in his poem and avoided the cultural identity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Essay On The Pond The Pond It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had been muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the sun shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider, and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes. Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that s what we began to do. But, as we sat, the sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn t stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road. We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. We can keep going down here and get there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that ll be faster. We made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision. I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I d hit the web, panic and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We d get back up, rinse and repeat for about another mile. Once we were back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Zodiac Analysis The Monster Within In Zodiac, written by Robert Graysmith he says, Just because you can t prove it does not mean it is not true. This premise was completely accurate and disheartening for David Toschi, the lead detective on the case because he could not uncover concrete evidence to convict Arthur Leigh Lee Allen. Lee was the prime suspect in the investigation and all signs pointed to him being Zodiac, which was the main similarity between the publication and motion picture. In addition, the text contained two prime suspects, but the feature film fixated on one. Graysmith later went to say, The film ends by hinting that Zodiac may be the man behind you in the theatre (Zodiac). He was articulating how they should be vigilant at all times because Zodiac could be the person juxtaposed to them and never know it. People may look ordinary but in reality, everybody is insane, some just suppress it better than others. Zodiac written by Graysmith had several parallels with the motion picture directed by David Fincher, but the main similarity was the accusation of Arthur Leigh Allen being Zodiac. Both the novel and the film focused on Lee being the main suspect considering all signs pointed to him, even though law enforcement officers did not have sufficient evidence to validate it. Zodiac allegedly murdered 37 civilians, although only 7 were substantiated to be Zodiac with 2 survivors: Mike Mageau and Bryan Hartnell. However, the cinema and publication both prompted scrutiny to the deaths of David Faraday, Betty Lou Jensen, Darlene Ferrin, Cecelia Shepard, and Paul Stine. Each of their unfortunate demises all corresponded to Lee s whereabouts (Zodiac). The timeline made an impeccable match, but the evidence was not substantial for conviction. Lee was the only suspect served with a search warrant, after searching Lee s trailer they uncovered incriminating evidence, but his handwriting did not match Zodiac s (Collins). Lee went through handwriting tests that the police arranged for him and much to their dismay the handwriting expert determined there was no correlation from Zodiac s letters to the handwriting submissions Lee presented (Grinell). • 8. The Mission Statement Of The Healthy Marriage Initiatives Healthy Marriage Initiative To help couples, who have chosen marriage for themselves, gain greater access to marriage education services, on a voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to form and sustain a healthy marriage ( Healthy Marriage Initiative , 2012). This is the Healthy Marriage Initiatives Mission statement. As part of Welfare reform, President George W. Bush implemented the Healthy Marriage Initiative. It was enacted to address the growing issues low income families have been facing for decades, including social problems that affect both children and the parent. This paper will address the background, implementation, oversight, cost, and outcomes of the Healthy Marriage Initiative. A little background, from 1935 to 1996 a federal assistance program managed by The Department of Health and Human Services, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children(AFDC) provided assistance to the children of low income families. Initially, the program was restricted to white women, but after some adjustment, the government graciously (insert sarcasm) permitted people of color to claim the benefit. As time went on, officials (and citizens) felt it was encouraging women to become single mothers and avoid joining the workforce. These concerns led to the development of The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996(PRWORA), Under this act, AFDC was replaced by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families ... With regards to course design, I learned the importance of having an organized, yet flexible, course plan that is designed in equilibrium with course objectives and assessments. Teaching observation practicum, provided me with an opportunity to assess my teaching from the perspective of an experienced educator. Below, I will discuss the elements and strategies that I have experimented with based on the comments and suggestions I received. COLLECTIVE LEARNING: One of the key elements in teaching undergraduate classes is to create a learning environment that cultivates critical thinking and mastery of concepts. As an instructor, I have experienced with various active learning methods to keep my students engaged and motivated. Within the pedagogy toolbox, I found the element of discovery to be the most effective way of teaching. In my classes, before even explaining a new concept, I usually pose a question to class and ask my students to find a solution. I ask my students to work in pairs (and sometimes groups) to come up with a solution without them knowing the new concepts. The idea is to assist them to discover the new concepts by thinking out of the box and trying different approaches. During ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Internal And External Factors That Affect The Core... Professional football clubs need revenue. It is vital to the financial survival of a club as they have ultimately become a business. Money is a vital necessity to enable the club to function. From paying ground rent to the funding of the youth system and to even signing players for the clubs, it is fundamental that a club is making a profit. The owners of the clubs will want to see profits being made otherwise the club will eventually no longer be able to function. In this assignment I will be exploring the ways in which Internal and external factors have an impact on the core revenues of Clubs and how clubs themselves can potentially help put the factors in their favour. Topics such as Fans and their behaviour and Player conduct on and off the pitch will be explored. Things that can occur which clubs have little or no power over such as a major political shift which can affect a clubs income will also be covered. One of the most obvious ways a club can make money is through ticket sales. Supporters of the clubs in question and also neutral spectators will all pay the club to watch the match. To ensure that the club continues to hold or expand its fan base the club will have to be somewhat successful in its competitive competitions. Clubs who are less competitive in their competitions will generally have less of a following than a more dominant club. Another way to bring in fans is to also give them a good match day experience. Teaching And Learning For Students With Disabilities In order for students with disabilities to learn in a science classroom, there needs to be a balanced approach to learning that includes both instructed and constructed learning activities. Direct teaching and mnemonic strategies can be used in order for students to learn vocabulary and facts. Text structure comprehension and summarization strategies can be implemented to help students read science textbooks. Graphic organizers and framed outlines can help improve learning of abstract concepts. Students with disabilities can also benefit from hands on science, where they learn from experience. Research has shown positive effects from the use of hands on activities with students who have disabilities and concrete activities. Direct, explicit, targeted questioning, and deductive thinking, through the use of coached elaborations, can improve learning for students with disabilities during hands on science lessons. Students with disabilities may be able to perform experiments and activities, but may not be able to draw conclusions or transfer learning like their peers. Differentiated curriculum enhancements, embedded in materials, can help all students. Peer tutoring and cooperative learning have also been shown to be effective in increased engagement and motivation of students, including those with disabilities, in science classrooms (Scruggs Mastropieri, 2007). In Sydney alone, the total cost of the firework display on New Years Eve was worth approximately 7.2 million dollars which ran for a duration of 20 minutes. This is equivalent to $360,000 per minute. Imagine all the lives you could save if this money was put towards saving the lives of those that barely survive day in, day out. With no way to secure it in place, the boat would simply drift to sea aimlessly, meaning a total loss for its owner. Christians, a religious group that claims to follow the Man Jesus who was executed years ago, claim that our soul needs an anchor just as badly as a boat. The soul , according to them, is the immortal part of man that exists within the physical body, but will continue to live after the body has deceased. This spiritual part of mankind is in need of an anchor to keep it rooted, and they teach that Jesus is that anchor. An anchor must hold fast no matter how hard the wind gusts or how boisterous the waves become. Those on the ship must be able to have faith that the anchor ... When God tells me that I can have hope and faith in His Son, I believe Him! It is abundantly clear by talking to these three Christians, as well as others, that these people have absolutely no doubt in the Man they call their Savior. Such confidence is rare to say the least, but not everyone feels that the assurance the Christians have in Jesus is warranted. A local worshipper of the god Saturn stated, I just don t get how they can have a steadfast hope in someone who is just a Man! I know that Saturn is not a man, he is a god! I can come to this temple and see an image of him, something tangible. But there is no such thing for these Christians. There s nothing physical to even show who this Jesus is! He explicitly states at the start of the essay that the main point is to govern absolutely the dealings of society with the individual in the way of compulsion and control (5). His push to establish the basic guidelines for the relationship between authority and liberty is a result of his ethical theory of utilitarianism. Throughout the course of this essay, Mill provides the reader with a deeper understanding of their individual civil liberties, as well as presenting examples that enhance his ideas. The introduction of the essay provides a better understanding for the foundation of Mill s beliefs, as well as preparing the audience to examine Mill s next point focused thought and discussion. In Chapter 2, Mill discusses the problem of people, both individuals and those in government, coercing the opinions of others. Mill states that the power itself is illegitimate , meaning that it is unjust to silence the opinion of an individual. (21) He believes that there is a peculiar evil in silencing the opinion of an individual, and that evil is robbing the human race of helping better understand not only that particular opinion but also opposing opinions (21). He first defends his claim by asserting that society is harmed by the silencing of opinion because it could be true. With this argument, Mill begins to refute any criticisms of his work. He responds to four main critics, first discussing how a person is only deserving of confidence if they are open to contradicting opinions through experience and discussion. According to Mill, No wise man ever acquired his wisdom in any mode but this and that an individual cannot become wise in any other manner e.g. (24). Following this, Mill states that The usefulness of an opinion is itself matter of opinion , as it is different for everyone (27). Classical Music s Influence On The Beatles Classical Music s Influence on the Beatles In this essay I am going to look at the way that classical, in particular baroque, music has affected music of the 20th century. To do this I have chosen three beatles songs and compared them directly to music by Bach and Beethoven. I hope to find many correlations between the two pieces of music in each case. The first song I have chosen is the song Blackbird. McCartney has claimed that the music was inspired by Bach s Bouree in E minor, of which he and George Harrison had learned to play at a young age. https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=BrxZhWCAuQw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APNI2CC0k6A list=RDAPNI2CC0k6A index=1 Blackbird Bouree In E Minor (Bach) Musically, the songs at first glance aren t that similar, for example the song Blackbird is majoritively in a major key, whereas Bach s Bouree in E Minor, as named, is in a minor key. This is a seemingly large difference but Blackbird is in G major and therefore the relative major key of E minor. The two keys are very closely related and add to the similarities between the two pieces. The Bourrée is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the upper and lower strings. McCartney adapted a segment of the Bourrée and reharmonized it into the relative major key of G as the opening of Blackbird, . He then carried the musical idea throughout the song. This song also makes use of baroque like counterpoint melodies. Part of its structure is a particular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Stand Here Ironing written by Tillie Olsen is a short story that reflects on the struggles of a single mother who looks back on the past and tries to assess the effect her decisions and circumstances had on her young daughter, Emily. This story is part of the awarding winning collection, Tell Me A Riddle, which was first published in 1961 (Wolfe). This story is considered the most autobiographical of Olsen s literary works (Piedmont Marton). The title of the story is taken from the stories opening line, I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron (Bauer, Olsen). The story is one of the best examples in literature, and certainly one of the first, to offer readers a glimpse into the lives of the working class women and families from a woman s perspective. (Piedmont Marton) This story illustrates Olsen s particular concern with the difficulties faced by women . (Wolfe) As the story unfolds, Olsen uses distinct character traits, imagery, tone, and style to create a dramatic sense of the mother s internal debate of her own feelings. The tone of this story is one of fear, regret, and guilt. The story first leaves the reader with impression that it may be a recount of the life of a daughter who was lost due to neglect. In my view, success and failure are not a factor of chosen line of specialization rather, it is a factor of hard work and determination to create a change. Self fashioning is more fundamental and basic education, like authority, and intelligence and it is determined by how people deal with small and basic things in life. In this lifestyle model the male of the house is the wage earner and the woman holds responsibility for domestic chores and rising children. In the years following the Second World War housing was designed and master planned in a way that embodied these ideologies. Over the years, researchers have developed multiple theories of the boundaries of childhood amnesia for adults, adolescents, and as well for children by using different methodology of measurement (Usher Neisser, 1993; Eacott Crawley, 1998; Macdonald et al., 2000; Peterson et al., 2000; Tusin and Hayne 2010; Wang Peterson, 2014 2016). Childhood amnesia occurs when adults are unable to recall memories from their childhood. • 42. Cosmetic Testing On Animals Testing cosmetics on animals is not only cruel and inhumane, but it has been proven to produce inaccurate results. Testing on animals has become an every day occurrence and routinely happens in the cosmetic industry. It costs billions of dollars each year and produces ineffective results. Animals are treated inhumanely during testing, as they are shaved and have chemicals spread onto their bodies and chemicals sprayed into their eyes. Animal species are different just as animals are different from humans so test results vary and provide inaccurate and unreliable results. The Food and Drug Administration no longer requires testing on animals in the United States prior to the sale of cosmetics, and we, as consumers, can help put an end to cosmetic testing on animals. Further, there are alternative tests that cosmetic companies can use which would eliminate animal testing and produce more accurate results. Cosmetic testing on animals costs billions of dollars each year and often produces ineffective results. From Fact Sheet: Cosmetic Testing: The Humane Society of the United States. Cosmetic companies are using animals to test products like skin cream, perfume, make up and shampoo. As we spend so much money on cosmetic testing on animals, one should be reminded how different animals really are from humans which makes results completely unreliable in most cases. Also, different animal species tested may have one result and another animal species may produce an entirely different result. One test result might indicate that a chemical is safe while another test on a different type of animal might indicate that the chemical is harmful. This then provides the cosmetic company with a failed and inaccurate testing result and could even pose risks to consumers. This makes the testing on animals seem unnecessary since they are not accurate. Testing on animals has been done in the past for medical and science purposes and is now being done to test cosmetics to determine whether or not they are safe for humans. Animals are most often shaved and have chemicals smeared onto their skin and are left for days or weeks with the chemicals on their bodies to see what effects they have on the animal s skin. They also have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Impact Of The Great San Francisco Earthquake Great San Francisco Earthquake On April 18, 1906, at 5:12 am over 400 thousand lives were forever changed, due to the San Francisco Earthquake. The 7.7 7.9 magnitude earthquake only lasted for a minute, however, the impact was incredible. The earthquake ignited several fires that spread throughout San Francisco and lasted for three days. Tectonic plates make up the outermost shell of the Earth and have been moving in relation to each other for hundreds of millions of years. Two tectonic plates, North American Plate and Pacific Plate, meet in Western California. The boundary between these plates is a zone of faults. One of these faults is called the San Andreas fault, which is a transform plate boundary. This means the motion between the two relative plates is mainly horizontal. At 5:12 am, the Pacific Plate slid horizontally north west in relation to the North American Plate, causing the earthquake along the San Andreas fault and associated faults.1 Contemporary geologists were amazed and bewildered with the size of the horizontal tectonic movements and the large rupture length (477km).2 The San Francisco Earthquake had a highly significant impact on the surrounding environment. The overwhelming total death count for the earthquake and fires is estimated to be 3 thousand people.
