(911). Again, it is difficult to believe that the queen would have allowed this knight to run off,
unpunished for his crime, unless she believed he would remain true to his word. It seems that it

Musical Dependency The 2002 film, The Pianist directed by Roman Polanski focuses on the
hardships of a well known, local concert pianist, Wladyslaw Szpilman. Wladyslaw Szpilman is
played by actor Adrien Brody, who does an excellent job portraying both the warmhearted side of
Szpliman and the desperate struggling side we see later on in the film. The film is based on
Szpilman s book, The Pianist where he discusses true events he underwent during the German
takeover of Warsaw. He was one of twenty survivors out of the 360,000 Jewish people killed from

gone through every obstacle to be thrown at him until he breaks. Stumbling through this huge
house he finds a single can of food and eagerly begins to search for something to open it. He
finally comes across a fireplace poker. As he tries to stab his way into the can it falls to the
ground and the camera enters an extreme close up on it. By using a close up we have nothing
else to look at and nothing else to think about aside from this fallen can. Suddenly we see feet
and the camera slowly tilts upward creating suspense until it reaches an extremely calm yet
serious German officer. The officer speaks, What are you doing here? At first, Szpilman at a loss
for words, in fear does not answer. Who are you? the officer asks, Understand?

before coming to conclusion of grouping all codes together. This is where their hypotheses data was
formed. The results from this study formed three themes which included anticipatory fear for
suffering of others, feeling unconnected or connected, and learning from others. (Schellenkens

where they feared facing other clients dealing with the same disease before the study began.

fact that women are considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a

Is a poem without any specific sound easy to understand? Possibly not! In most poems, a poet
uses assonance or consonance to draw special attention to specific parts of the poem. A poem
with assonance or vowels tells the reader about how low or high the sound is, giving them a sense
of the emotion of the character or the poet at that specific part. On the other hand, consonance
determines the friction or tone of a word or line, telling the reader when to slow down or when to
read faster. Assonance and consonance helps to create rhymein poems; a rhyme is a repeated sound

pizzeria. Throughout the film, Lee establishes two main characters that illustrate the right thing ,

Three Years of Permanent Ink I struggle with opening up my emotions when reading a story or
poem. I stay bottled up because if I feel something for it, it just makes me think of a time when I
felt worthless. The poem The World Is in Pencil, by Todd Boss opened me up and allowed me to
feel vulnerable. Its length is only sixteen short lines, but those lines mean a great deal. This poem
is about being in control of your life and symbolically writing your life in pencil, so that nothing is
ever permanent. The pencil stands for the control you have over your life and the ability to write

I often felt that I would never be in control because they almost completely broke me as a human
being. My spirit was crushed. The part that kept me going was graduation. Graduation day was one
of the happiest days of my life because despite everyone s criticism, I eventually achieved
something I wanted. I got to walk the stage with my friends and receive my diploma. When I shook
the hand of the Board of Education President, I felt freedom. I looked down at the people who
terrorized me and I smiled. Not only did I receive a diploma that day, but I received a pencil, the
most freeing utensil I ever held. Todd Boss says it best in his poem by saying, I ll bet it felt good in
the hand the o of the ocean, and the and and the and of the land (12 16). Boss is saying that when
we write our lives and worlds out in pencil, we are free to explore vast areas and open ranges of
ideas. It feels good to be in control of my life once again. I carry my pencil with pride and choose

Never known for being a pillar of peace, the Middle East has always been rife with turmoil.
However, in 2011 this turmoil was super charged, as several nations experienced civil uprising.
Citizens of Algeria, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Morocco, and Oman, mobilized, forming massive
protests. Heads of state in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen were stripped of their powers and
removed. Even more developed nations like Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Sudan experienced
protests, albeit minor during the Arab Spring. (The National.AE, 2011) Objectives in each area
varied, but civil liberties violations and economic grievances were primary concerns among
protestors. What s unique about the Arab Spring, is that activities and information was often shared
between participants via social media. Cheers and encouragement were also doled out via social
media by individuals and groups in other countries. (Kesselman, 2016 page 487)
In retrospect, it s easy to see that their objectives fell short of their intended goals. Be that as it
may, it would be wise to understand the reasoning behind their actions and take a closer look at
democracy and the expectations behind this powerful word. Furthermore, it s vital to study
