The two texts provided are Decomposition , a poem by Zulfikar Ghose, and Street People: How
Dangerous are They? , an article for Survival magazine by Loren W. Christensen. The former is about
a man who is describing, in hindsight, his experience photographing a homeless man on the street,
while the latter is about how to protect oneself from dangerous people on the street while travelling or

The first article has a more sympathetic tone towards street people, and questions if we are actually
compassionate to their situations or just feel pity because that s how we think we should feel. Such
sights are so common that we have learned to automatically filter them and treat them as though they

fact, if you think about it, it s depressing and shocking that there are people who are suffering because

The films, American Movie and It Follows, offers different aesthetics, because the two movies are
implementing a different message and want to be perceived differently to the viewers. American
Movie displays aesthetics of realism, such as direct addresses to the camera, on camera interviews,
real mise en scene, and real people. It Follows is a more typical film that displays aesthetics of
formalism such as expressive sound, expressive cinematography, expressive mise en scene, and

Most horror films do create this to engage the audience and suggest feelings about what is happening
within the scene. Within the film they use expressive sounds and tones to create a feeling of horror or
suspense. When It is transferred to Annie the guy she slept with drops her off in front of her house. He
then speeds away in his car and the viewer hears the screeching of tires as he peels out. The peeling
out noise continues and his car leaves the screen, but a creepier and screeching noise is implemented
in the film to create a feeling of uneasiness. The purpose of this noise is to express a feeling of
discomfort to the viewers as Annie crawls her way back to her porch. Obviously, this noise was
created artificially and was edited in after the filming of the scene. The film makers implemented and
blended the sound of the car tires and the screeching noise to make a continuous sound. This aesthetic
would be seen within film of realism, since making artificial sounds within the film would take away
