Empress Wu Research Paper
Empress Wu Zetian (originally called Wu Zhao) was the only female in Chinese history to rule as
Emperor. Although for centuries, she was painted as a brutal and remorseless person due to her
inhumane actions, Empress Wu remains as the most influential and mysterious woman in Chinese
history.
Born into a wealthy family in 624 A.D., Empress Wu was taught how to write, read Chinese
classics and to play music. At the age of fourteen, she became a concubine to Emperor Taizong
who favoured her knowledge of literature and history. In 649 A.D., the Emperor died and he was
succeeded by his son, Gaozong, who also became fascinated by Wu s beauty and talents. After
earning the Emperor s trust, Wu wanted a higher status in the palace and to achieve her goal, ...

She took over administration of the court when Emperor Gaozong was ill and gained the respect
and love from the court with her great skills, courage, ambitious character and readiness to use
vicious actions if necessary. When Emperor Gaozong passed away, his throne was taken over by
Wu s third son, Li Xian. Emperor Zhongzong (Li Xian) found difficulties in ruling the empire and
soon after, was replaced by his younger, weaker brother, Emperor Ruizong (Li Dan). Six years
later, Wu Zetian declared herself as emperor after forcing Emperor Ruizong to abdicate. As
Empress of the Zhou dynasty, Wu Zetian was ruthless. She operated a secret service to carry out
false accusations, tortures and executions on individuals who were against. Empress Wu also
exiled or make the family of the individuals into slaves. An extreme torture that she would enact
at times was called the, human pig . This is when one s arms and legs are cut off and they were left
to suffer. Empress Wang was an example as her arms and legs were chopped off at Empress Wu s

Board Of Education Case
One influential Supreme Court decision would be the case if Brown v. Board of Education. This
case is important because it helped stop segregation in schools. Before this case there was another
case named Plessy v. Ferguson where they ruled in 1896 where schools were to be separate but
equal. This meant that black and whites could not attend the same school but they were getting the
same education. It wasn t until the case of Brown v. Board of educationwhere it changed. In this
case Linda Brown was not allowed to attend a school in her area because it was an all white
school and she was black. The mother of Linda Brown filed a suit against the school. This suit went
all the way up to the Supreme Court. The decision to this case was made on May 17, 1954. As the
book states the court decided, Segregation in schools violated the equal protection clause of the
Fourteenth Amendment. This meant that having separate facilities of school based on race was

The Implicit Association Test (IAT) created by Anthony Greenwald and his co worker. A lot of
people have taken the test online and have realized that they are much faster to relate positive
words with the face of white people than black people. The result that perchance most of
American is really racist. Another greater fear is that Americans are racial discriminate, but they

Light vs. Dark in Heart of Darkness Essay
Light vs. Dark in Heart of Darkness
The realism movement of the late nineteenth century produced works in literature that were marked
by reduced sentimentality and increased objectivity. The goal was to let details tell the story, and
remove noticeable bias of the author through scientific and detailed descriptions. While this form of
storytelling undoubtedly is most accurate, it creates difficulties for authors to incorporate their
themes into the story. This resulted in an increase in symbolism in realist works. The objects and
descriptions within the story are the author s vehicle for displaying the values and themes of the
work. Light and darkness are symbols commonly used in literature, and have held specific symbolic

One of the biggest ways he contrast s the two is in physical locations themselves.
Conrad uses light as a symbol of civilization. Just as darkness is defined as the absence of light,
the black jungle represents the absence of white man s civilization a civilization marked by
corruption and evil. Conrad s description of Brussels in part one is an example of how he uses
detail to convey deeper meaning. In a very few hours I arrived at a city that always made me
think of a white sepulcher. (953) It is significant that Conrad describes the building Marlow
departs from as a white coffin, because the offices in that building are driven by greed and their
job is sending men out to their almost certain deaths. The white men in the white town send
sailors in search of their white prize, ivory. This cycle of evil begins and ends in this town.
Describing the town as white is deceptive, because the town itself possesses an ominous feeling of
death. This symbolizes the deception of all the sailors who come to this town in hopes of finding
fortune and are sent to their deaths. Conrad makes it clear that this is a deception not found in the
darkness of the jungle. When Marlow approaches dying slaves in the darkness of a shaded cove, he
states: They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were nothing earthly now, nothing but

Mozart Clarinet Concerto Essay
Introduction
One of the problems clarinetists of the 21st century face when performing Mozart s Clarinet
Concerto, K. 622, is creating a performance that is memorable while keeping the authentic integrity
of the work. Many clarinetists who perform this work are often concerned with how they should the
approach and execute the concerto. Any musician who tackles any new work will approach it by
researching historical information on the composer and work, do a musical analysis, and gathering
recordings of other interpretations of the same work. This approach will not only allow the
performer to be fully immersed in the piece but allow for the performer to create a memorable
interpretation.

He first decided to use the clarinet in his composition of Divertimento, K 113, due to the singing
qualities it possessed. He composed the Clarinet Concerto in 1791 for a clarinetist by the name
of Anton Stadler. The concerto was on one of the Mozart s last compositions and his last
concerto for a solo instrument. The composition of the piece began in 1787 for basset horn in G
with about 200 measures and then was revisited in the last few weeks of Mozart s life in 1791.
When he returned to the piece in 1791, Mozart decided to change the key and the
instrumentation of the piece. The key was changed from G major to A major and the instrument
of choice was the basset clarinet in A. Stadler designed the basset clarinet. Compared to the
current clarinet, the basset clarinet had a range that was 2 whole tones lower than a normal
clarinet. Francoeur s Diapason general gives tonal qualities of various clarinets and describes the
G clarinet s sound as sweet, sad, and lugubrious (Lawson, pg. 29). When describing the tonal
quality of the A clarinet, it I said to have a very sweet sound, [that it] much less somber than the G

Financial Ratios Case Study

RATIOS TELL A STORY 2011
Financial results and conditions vary among companies for a number of reasons. One reason for the
variation can be traced to the characteristics of the industries in which companies operate. For
example, some industries require large investments in property, plant, and equipment (PP E), while
others require very little. In some industries, the competitive productpricing structure permits
companies to earn significant profits per sales dollar, while in other industries the product pricing
structure imposes a much lower profit margin. In most low margin industries, however, companies
often experience a relatively high rate of product throughput. A second reason for some of the...

Female Genitalia Mutilation ( Fgm )
Female Circumcision: Female Genitalia Mutilation As a nursing student in my first experience
working in a labor ward, I witnessed a lady birthing a baby with part of the birth canal scarred and
narrow due to her circumcision at puberty. To say that the birthing process was hard to watch is an
understatement. As the labor progressed with no sight of the baby coming out naturally, she was
offered a C section, which she vehemently turned down. She said, I don t want to be the joke of my
peers. I have to do it like others did it. Watching this, made me more curious and passionate to find
the origin of this practice and hopefully, educate the practitioners leading to its eradication. Some
may argue that the after effects of female genital mutilation (FGM) are not new. I hope that my
research into the origin of this practice will help the public health community understand how it can
help these women and eradicate this practice. For everything that has a beginning, most of the time,
has an end. Delancer (2015) presenting a speech to The United Nations High Commissioner for
Human Rights (UNHCHR) on traditions that hurt women states that: Most women in developing
countries are unaware of their basic human rights. It is this state of ignorance which ensures their
acceptance and consequently, the perpetuation of harmful traditional practices affecting their well
being and that of their children. Even when women acquire a degree of economic and political
awareness, they often feel

Within an ideal attachment relationship as suggested by Mary Ainsworth (1963, 1967) in the
strange situation procedure, the caregiver acts as a secure base where to the infant can return
during exploration of the environment if the infant feels insecure or fearful. John Bowlby (1969,
1988) proposed the maternal deprivation hypothesis based on the belief that infants are biologically
predisposed to form attachments to a caregiver, founded upon the caregivers ability to respond
appropriately to the infants needs. The maternal deprivation hypothesis proposes long term damage
due to absence of attachment with a caregiver during the critical or sensitive period, within the first
two to three years of life. Caregivers responses to emotional cues through such things as affect
attunement, in which the care giver is sensitive and attuned to the infants emotions, as well as the

Of these trauma survivors up to 20% develop PTSD. Put another way, approximately 13 million
Americans 5% of the population suffers from PTSD at any given time.(Goulston, 2008 ) Post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder acquired when a person becomes a
victim of some form of trauma. Trauma can come in the form of experiencing natural disasters
such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, or floods. Personal traumas such as being robbed,
assaulted, raped, physically or sexually abused, or tortured can cause PTSD. Those who have
suffered extreme illness such as Cancer and AIDS may experience it. And even those who have
watched their loved ones suffer through extreme illnesses can succumb to the disorder. They
suffer what is called a secondary trauma. It has even been recently discovered that someone
viewing media coverage of a traumatic event can even get PTSD. There were people viewing
the live coverage of the 9/11 attacks in 2001, that triggered the same types of emotional and
physical responses as if they were physically at Ground Zero! Naturally, those who have served in
the military especially those who have survived wars and gone to combat, are highly at risk for
PTSD. So what exactly is a trauma? When we think of the word trauma we often think of something
horrendous, something horrible or really, really bad. But what actually constitutes something as a

Social Media Communication And The Power Of Online...
In the world of technology communication has become easier than ever. The world has now
shrunk from a vast populated land to a network of communicating individuals living in a global
village. People from all over the globe have come closer together and distances have decreased to
the extent that an individual is merely a click away.
In this ever growing network of people a new theory has emerged, the idea of 6 degrees of
separation. The idea behind this is that between you and any another person in the world is only a
chain no longer than six people. This emphasizes the significance of online communication and the
way it has made the world a whole lot smaller.
This is the power of social media and the developments in online communication. A happening in
one part of the world reaches to the second part in a matter of seconds. Imagine if that news or
happening was about you. The significance of this technology is the ease it provides. Using this
tool to your advantage can give you a large number of benefits.
Social Media Marketing brings global fame to your name.
This is your ticket to international level fame. Your company or your name could be known
throughout the globe with millions of followers and fans. Millions of people can access these
sites where people come to communicate online and express their views. Once you step into the
world of the social media marketing all of these people become your potential prospects. Your
services are merely a single search away.

Internal environment strategy
In recent years Qantas is going through a significant transformation plan. It is known that in present
scenario the global market is changing significantly and thus it has been critical for various business
units to understand the need of change in present organisational structure (Centreforaviation.com,
2014). There are various strategies that need to be implemented by a business unit in order to be
competent in the industry. It was evident that the global forces had imposed various challenges for
Qantas and as the prices of oil increased significantly, it also affected the Australian dollars. A
profound impact of globalisation was seen on Qantas competitive situation and thus they had to
implement various strategies in order to restore the competitive position of the organisation (Freed,
2014).
Thus Qantas took the initiative to turn a loss making company into one of the global aviation
company of the world with a tremendous competitive advantage by doing a strategic alliance with
the Emirates (Gazzar, 2014). Qantas has taken various strategies to make sure that they remain cost

Analysis Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And Caleb...
In A.D Harvey s article Frankenstein and Caleb Williams, he explains that Mary Shelley s famous
work, Frankenstein; was not intended to be of any actual scientific evidence, but rather written just
only with the intention of a gothic horror piece we will each write a ghost story (Frankenstein
Author s introduction vii). Harvey s target is to reach out to the science community and to sway
them to look past the mechanics of how Frankensteins monster is created and focus on other points
of interest. Harvey formerly goes into an analysis of Shelley s monster story before giving a
literary compare and contrast with Godwin s Caleb Williams. In A.D Harvey s essay, his main
claim is that there is more to the novel of Frankenstein on the controversial issue on how the
monster was created (A.D. Harvey. 24). I agree that the author s analysis of A.D Harvey s essay
about Frankenstein provides evidence that there is more to the novel other than science on how
Frankenstein the monster was created. What Harvey does well in his essay is how he shifted the
focus of Marry Shelley s work with logical reasoning while showing how it is just gothic novel,
not a revolution to a scientific era. In the beginning of the essay Harvey says, Mary Shelley was no
scientist, and her novel has no roots in science (21). What he means by this is that Shelley is just
writing a horror story and that she did not intend to infringe upon the scientific community. What
this does is lets the reader know

The First Amendment was first established to guarantee Americans with the basic civil liberties that

the times the media will go to extremes to get the attention of the citizen of the US by releasing

Public Drinking Water Fluorination Research
Fluoride is a mineral found in the earth s crust with proven benefit in protecting against dental
caries better known as cavities (Colgate Oral Care, 2016). Fluoride is available through oral health
care products and disseminated through the public water supply in every state across the country.
Even rural residents receiving their water from a well have trace concentrations of fluoride.
Individuals using private well water are urged to have their fluoride levels analyzed by a
laboratory; suggestions on reputable laboratories are provided through the U.S Environmental

Martin Luther Justification
Martin Luther wrestled over justification his whole life, it tore him apart and tore him away from
the church. He set out to challenge the belief of the church at the time. He came to the opinion,
from his study of the gospel and the early church, that justification comes from God s gift of grace,
that only must be accepted through faith. To have salvation, one must be justified in front of God.
Luther struggled with this in his early years. He felt that to be saved he had to be righteous, which
caused Luther an immense amount of guilt since he saw how unrighteous he was. However, soon
he realized to be justified the only thing one must do is to have faith in God and His Son s
resurrection. There is no amount of works that one could do to be justified; one must only have
faith. Faith alone bring righteousnessand thus justification. Luther had a very strong belief that
salvation comes from faith alone. All that is needed to be justified in front of God is to have
faith. Michael M. Ramos writes Martin Luther believed that salvation depends not on human
effort or merit but only on the freely given grace of God, which is accepted in faith (35). Luther
believes that first God extends grace, which is the death of Jesus and the sending of the Holy
Spirit. God reaches out to man and offers grace. The grace is not because humans deserve it from
merit or human accomplishments. God extends grace because he is a righteous God. Now the only
thing that humans must do to be justified

Medical Ethics Of The Doctor Patient Relationship
You may not control life s circumstances, but getting to be the author of your life means getting to
control what you do with them (Atul Gawande). This quote, from renowned surgeon and essayist,
Atul Gawande, expresses an important idea in medical ethics: patients possess a certain level of
autonomy in the doctor patient relationship, and this autonomy needs to be respected by medical
professionals. Ethically speaking, physicians owe their patients full disclosure about their
diagnoses, treatment options, and any potential medical risks. Patients have the inherent right to
know all aspects of their illness or malady, and it is not up to physicians to decide which
information should be withheld from patients. Withholding information from patients breaks down
any trust that may have existed within the physicianpatient relationship, and thus leads to an overall
patient dissatisfaction towards the healthcare system.
In any patient physician relationship, one of the most essential components is the element of trust.
One patient remarks on the importance of trust by saying, We trust them not to use that expertise to
exploit our vulnerability for their own interests...and we trust them to empower and enable us to
place their recommendations into the full context of our own hierarchy of values (Pellegrino,
Thomasma 1993). This patient is accurately describing trust in the context of the consumer model
or patient autonomy model of a doctor patient relationship doctors provide

Selfishness In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour

Writing About Literature

The Road to Unselfishness Michael Jordan once said, To be successful you have to be selfish or
else you never achieve. And once you get to your highest level, then you have to be unselfish. Stay
reachable. Stay in touch. Don t isolate (Jordan). Many people would argue against the idea of
needing to be selfish. Selfishness is viewed by society as being greedy and ignorant to what is
going on in the world. Even though society has a negative view on selfishness, people are selfish
because it is necessary to focus on achieving their own successes, and once they are successful,
they then can take a step back and be concerned about other people. This is best shown through ...

When she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it
over and over under her breath: free, free, free! (Chopin 477). The main character, Louise, wasn t
concerned about her husband s death, instead she was excited to finally be free from him. This
is an example of Louise having the need to be selfish. If she focused on her husband s death,
then she would be unable to reach her full potential. Instead, by her being selfish, she becomes a
stronger person, allowing her to be confident in her ability to live on her own and to live for
herself rather than for other people. Connecting this back to Michael Jordan s quote, Louise will
not be able to reach her full potential with her husband alive which causes her to be selfish and
not care that he was reported dead. Society would argue that Louise should be upset over the
reported death of her husband, and would be appalled to find out she was actually relieved when
she was told he died. Overall, even though society has a negative view on selfishness, people are
selfish because it is necessary to focus on achieving their own successes, and once they are
successful, they then can take a step back and be concerned about other people. This is best

The History of Humanitarian Intervention
The history of Humanitarian intervention is a controversial one. In March 1999 the North Atlantic
Treaty Organisation (NATO) justified the use of force against Yugoslavia, a country that at this time
was having a number of atrocities being committed within it. This act welcomed by those that
thought that the veto of the permanent five in the United Nations Security Councilsometimes block
necessary cases of intervention. According to Sarooshi (2001) they believe morality should trump
legality where governments commit mass atrocities. Some claim NATO s action is legal because it
represents the crystallization in state practice of a new customary law of humanitarian intervention.
(Sarooshi, 2001:12) According to a number of authors namely Bellamy, Chandler as this essay shall
soon explore, was the downfall of any form of containing humanitarian intervention . The principle
of Responsibility to Protect(R2P) was endorsed by the United NationsGeneral Assembly in 2005
and in 2006 the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reaffirmed the R2P principle.
Lyon (2009) questions the validity of the R2P discourse. He describes it as a normative
advancement of the idea of humanitarian intervention. Whilst Bellamy (2008) argues that R2P can
be seen as a working language in the international community where cases of mass atrocities are
being committed.
A question that continues to arise is that of sovereignty. What gives a sovereign state the right to

Ed Fletcher s Response To The Message
Ed Fletcher was one of the creators of the song The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the
Furious Five, which was released in 1982. This song depicted a horrible scene of blacks living in
the ghettos, which was relevant socially because of the issue of racism that was being
addressed, and had been an issue for a long time. Although the book didn t mention much about
his personal life, as a black man it is obvious why he would want to create a song that addresses
racism towards blacks. The Message takes the approach of describing the awful treatment that
people living in the ghettos were receiving, which was particularly relevant to the artists who
created the song, like Ed Fletcher as I just mentioned, because they were all blacks who had likely
experienced this situation. The lyrics used in the song, such as Got no money to move out, I guess

Tuberculosis, An Airborne Disease
Tuberculosis, an airborne disease, infects people through inhalation of mycobacterium tuberculosis,
which is called droplet infection, and is potentially fatal to its victims. (Muller, 2011).
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the causative agent for tuberculosis. There are 19 registered types of
mycobacterium that are associated with tuberculosis, which are identified and differentiated by
culture of the organism and the disease kills around 1.7 million people each year.
Tuberculosis is primarily found in areas of poverty and is the number one killer of people who
have contracted HIV. Evidence of the presence of Tuberculosis has been traced back to the
Ancient Egyptian era as evidence of tubercular decay has been found in the spines of mummies.
Tuberculosis was also very prevalent and a wide spread killer in both ancient Greece and Imperial
Rome. As time has progressed, various scientific discoveries have occurred which have been able
to loosen the grip of tuberculosis on the world and significantly reduce its death rate. These include;
the discovery of the mycobacterium tuberculosis, discovery of the Bacille Calmette GuГ©rin
vaccine and development of both curative and preventative drugs.
Tuberculosis is most prevalent in developing countries, particularly in South East Asia and the
Western Pacific regions, which account for 58% of new cases globally. However, Africa also has a

The 3rd fastest rollercoaster in the world reaches a speed of 120 mph. It s called the Top Thrill

you go on. It also had music videos, games, trivia, and general information about the park. I
could smell funnel cakes and all kinds of other foods. The line moved slowly, barely moving
forward each time the cars went around the track. The track was short, but loading up the cars
took awhile. Every group of people that went on had to have that quick safety speech. As we got
closer to the front, I started sweating. It was already blazing hot outside, and the sun was

The Long Term And Short Term Effects Of Grade Skipping Essay
The effects of grade skipping has been the focus of many researchers. Some want to find out if
students who skip a grade are more likely to have advanced math skills, and if that would result
in them going on to make contributions to the STEM field. Others want to know if and how it
affects other aspects of the student, such as their language skills. In these studies, researchers
investigate these questions to determine the both the long term and short term effects of grade
skipping. Park, Benbow, and Lubunski (2013) used the Study of Mathematically Precocious
Youth, a 40 year longitudinal study, to determine if skipping a grade has long term effects on
performance in STEM fields. The main goal was to find if individuals who skipped a grade after
identification at or before thirteen years of age were more likely to receive advanced degrees
and accomplishments in STEM fields, reach those achievements faster than their peers who did
not skip a grade, and were more productive in their careers at midcareer. Participants were chosen
from the first three cohorts of the previous study, and were only used if they scored 390 or higher
on the math subtest of the SAT. In the present study, to determine the accomplishments of the
participants, they were given surveys to complete at age 33 that determined the degrees earned by
each participant. Their names were entered into databases to see if they completed a dissertation or

A Streetcar Named Desire The societal choices of women
In his play A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams explores his ideas about women in
society. By depicting Blanche s desperate need of a man and Stella s dependence upon Stanley,
Tennessee Williamsdepicts women as being vulnerable and suggests the social construct is
created in a way that women s reliance on a man ultimately forces them to choose between
banishment or subjugation. Blanche needs a man in order to exist in the society and so she is
desperate. Blanche is depicted as desperate after the death of Allan as the death of Allan, the only

unable to believe the idea that Stanley would betray her and so she rejects the voice of her own
sister, Blanche, informing us that the voice a woman without a man is no voice at all I couldn t
believe her story and go on living with Stanley (William 144). This depicts Blanche as being
overpowered by the influence of men, here Stanley s opinion, and so rejected by the

to the literary critic Panda, Stella has been immensely passivized (Panda 53) when Stanley plays

Analysis Of A Walk In The Woods
Bill Bryson is the author and the main character of the novel A Walk in The Woods. Bryson
came from Britain over twenty years ago. He brought along his friend Katz to reflect and
reacquaint his discovery on a 2,100 mile of the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail stretches
from the two states of Georgia to Maine. They will be discussing their hilarious jokes that were
witnessed in this novel. Here are few examples: Bryson said he wanted to use the bathroom in the
woods, Mary Ellen was the controlling and impatient camper they met, and what Mary Ellen called
and did for Bryson and Katz while on the trail. Bill Brysonand his friend Katz are determined to
experience the Appalachian Trail, which creates amusing stories.
First, Bill himself is hilarious. For example, the reader writes this quote: I wanted a little of that
swagger that comes with being able to gaze at a far horizon through eyes of chipped granite and
say with a slow, manly sniff, Yeah, I ve shit in woods. (Bryson 4) Bill Bryson said that because
the restrooms on the trail were disgusting and completely appalling to go into. He probably meant
that they were all taken by other camper and that he couldn t wait so he decided to use the
restroom in the woods. Or he wanted to go in the restroom in the woods to prove a point to show
other campers and animals that the woods are just nature.
Second, Mary Ellen is one example of amusing by this quote in the novel: When s your birthday?
she said to me.

The Five Types Of Conflict And Interpersonal Communication
Conflict and Interpersonal Communication In this paper, I will demonstrate the types of
interpersonal conflict styles and ways of managing these communication conflicts. This will entail
with a focus on characters in a film, and analyzing how these characters managed during this time
of communication conflict. By focusing on characters and determining their conflict styles, ways
of communication, and how the conflict resolved, always a way to study how the type of
communication style can make an impact in everyday life. Conflict Management Styles The five
strategies for managing conflict management are competing, avoiding, compromising,
collaborating, and accommodating. Competing is a method that acts only in favor of your point
in the argument. This style does not seek any cooperation with the other individual involved and
the only focus is for your side of the argument to be the winning side. This approach can be selfish
as it does not take the other individuals intentions, views, or feelings on the conflict into
consideration. Avoiding the conflict does not require strength or consideration for the other person
involved. When you avoid the conflict, you are pretending that it never happened or does not
exists anymore. This style of conflict is when you simply avoid the issue altogether. This style
does not work toward reaching the goal of either parties involved. This style can be effective when
the atmosphere is emotionally charged and you need to create space (Meier,

Effects Of Recasts And Prompts On L2 Learners
Ammar and Spada (2006) investigated the effects of recasts and prompts on L2 learners written
and oral ability across different proficiency levels. The study fits in with the previous research,
as in previously the focus of research was just based on CF being a solution for low levels of
grammatical efficiency, which have been explained as the proof against the accuracy of
understandable input and exceptionally meaning based direction. The researchers have thus
proposed FFI in CF, which is based both on reactive and proactive form of feedback and which
has been proposed by the researchers as the most important way of attracting the learners towards
language form in case of communicative classroom environment. The main motivation, just as in
previous article, is to explore the form focused instruction as alternative way of instruction so as to
make CF more proactive as well as reactive. The main hypothesis of this researchis that learners
who have been more exposed to the communicative activities including components of the CF
would probably get more benefits as compared to those who are exposed only to the
communicative activities alone. For this purpose, there were 64 students, who were divided into
three different groups in ESL classes in Montreal and there were two experimental conditions that
were applied to them. One group had received the CF in the form of prompts as well as recasts.
Similarly, other was the control group. The target structure was third person

The Report From Raleigh s News And Observer The Ghost...
The report from Raleigh s News Observer The Ghost of 1898; Wilmington s Race Riot and the
Rise of White Supremacy by Timothy B. Tyson discussed the historical event that is crucial, yet
was rarely spoke of until recent years. On November 10, 1989 Wilmington a majority black
populated city as well as center of African American political and economic success a group of
white supremacist burned down the building the local black newspaper resulting in the killing
dozens of black residents, banishment of successful black leaders as well as their white supporters.
The effects of this incident set path to the further expansion of white supremacy, and to an era of
segregation, violence and repression. One of the main contribution to the success of the
Democratic party ruled by white supremacist was the usage of the press, particularly newspapers,
that carry propaganda to push the campaign in their favor. They exploited the power of the press to
demonized black men as rapists who threatened the pure flower of Southern women (Tyson 7) and
as tyrannical demons that threatens the white race.
Racial superiority of whites was an ideology deeply ingrained, but the Democratic Party
understood that it would be crucial to their campaign to fan [the ember of bigotry] to full flame (6).
The major theme of the campaign became a mission to save white supremacy from Negro
domination. Black men are portrayed as heinous and savage creatures that target the pure image of
white women.

Although for centuries, she was painted as a brutal and remorseless person due to her inhumane actions, Empress Wu remains as the most influential and mysterious woman in Chinese history. Born into a wealthy family in 624 A.D., Empress Wu was taught how to write, read Chinese classics and to play music. At the age of fourteen, she became a concubine to Emperor Taizong who favoured her knowledge of literature and history. Before this case there was another case named Plessy v. Ferguson where they ruled in 1896 where schools were to be separate but equal. This meant that black and whites could not attend the same school but they were getting the same education. It wasn t until the case of Brown v. Board of educationwhere it changed. In this case Linda Brown was not allowed to attend a school in her area because it was an all white school and she was black. The mother of Linda Brown filed a suit against the school. This suit went all the way up to the Supreme Court. The decision to this case was made on May 17, 1954. Light vs. Dark in Heart of Darkness Essay Light vs. Dark in Heart of Darkness The realism movement of the late nineteenth century produced works in literature that were marked by reduced sentimentality and increased objectivity. The goal was to let details tell the story, and remove noticeable bias of the author through scientific and detailed descriptions. While this form of storytelling undoubtedly is most accurate, it creates difficulties for authors to incorporate their themes into the story. This resulted in an increase in symbolism in realist works. The objects and descriptions within the story are the author s vehicle for displaying the values and themes of the work. Light and darkness are symbols commonly used in literature, and have held specific symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the biggest ways he contrast s the two is in physical locations themselves. Conrad uses light as a symbol of civilization. Just as darkness is defined as the absence of light, the black jungle represents the absence of white man s civilization a civilization marked by corruption and evil. Conrad s description of Brussels in part one is an example of how he uses detail to convey deeper meaning. In a very few hours I arrived at a city that always made me think of a white sepulcher. (953) It is significant that Conrad describes the building Marlow departs from as a white coffin, because the offices in that building are driven by greed and their job is sending men out to their almost certain deaths. The white men in the white town send sailors in search of their white prize, ivory. This cycle of evil begins and ends in this town. Describing the town as white is deceptive, because the town itself possesses an ominous feeling of death. This symbolizes the deception of all the sailors who come to this town in hopes of finding fortune and are sent to their deaths. Conrad makes it clear that this is a deception not found in the darkness of the jungle. When Marlow approaches dying slaves in the darkness of a shaded cove, he states: They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were nothing earthly now, nothing but black ... • 6. Mozart Clarinet Concerto Essay Introduction One of the problems clarinetists of the 21st century face when performing Mozart s Clarinet Concerto, K. 622, is creating a performance that is memorable while keeping the authentic integrity of the work. Many clarinetists who perform this work are often concerned with how they should the approach and execute the concerto. Any musician who tackles any new work will approach it by researching historical information on the composer and work, do a musical analysis, and gathering recordings of other interpretations of the same work. This approach will not only allow the performer to be fully immersed in the piece but allow for the performer to create a memorable interpretation. He first decided to use the clarinet in his composition of Divertimento, K 113, due to the singing qualities it possessed. He composed the Clarinet Concerto in 1791 for a clarinetist by the name of Anton Stadler. The concerto was on one of the Mozart s last compositions and his last concerto for a solo instrument. The composition of the piece began in 1787 for basset horn in G with about 200 measures and then was revisited in the last few weeks of Mozart s life in 1791. When he returned to the piece in 1791, Mozart decided to change the key and the instrumentation of the piece. The key was changed from G major to A major and the instrument of choice was the basset clarinet in A. Stadler designed the basset clarinet. Compared to the current clarinet, the basset clarinet had a range that was 2 whole tones lower than a normal clarinet. One reason for the variation can be traced to the characteristics of the industries in which companies operate. For example, some industries require large investments in property, plant, and equipment (PP E), while others require very little. In some industries, the competitive productpricing structure permits companies to earn significant profits per sales dollar, while in other industries the product pricing structure imposes a much lower profit margin. • 8. Female Genitalia Mutilation ( Fgm ) Female Circumcision: Female Genitalia Mutilation As a nursing student in my first experience working in a labor ward, I witnessed a lady birthing a baby with part of the birth canal scarred and narrow due to her circumcision at puberty. To say that the birthing process was hard to watch is an understatement. As the labor progressed with no sight of the baby coming out naturally, she was offered a C section, which she vehemently turned down. She said, I don t want to be the joke of my peers. I have to do it like others did it. Watching this, made me more curious and passionate to find the origin of this practice and hopefully, educate the practitioners leading to its eradication. Some may argue that the after effects of female genital mutilation (FGM) are not new. I hope that my research into the origin of this practice will help the public health community understand how it can help these women and eradicate this practice. For everything that has a beginning, most of the time, has an end. Delancer (2015) presenting a speech to The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) on traditions that hurt women states that: Most women in developing countries are unaware of their basic human rights. Harvey s target is to reach out to the science community and to sway them to look past the mechanics of how Frankensteins monster is created and focus on other points of interest. Harvey formerly goes into an analysis of Shelley s monster story before giving a literary compare and contrast with Godwin s Caleb Williams. In A.D Harvey s essay, his main claim is that there is more to the novel of Frankenstein on the controversial issue on how the monster was created (A.D. Harvey. 24). I agree that the author s analysis of A.D Harvey s essay about Frankenstein provides evidence that there is more to the novel other than science on how Frankenstein the monster was created. What Harvey does well in his essay is how he shifted the focus of Marry Shelley s work with logical reasoning while showing how it is just gothic novel, not a revolution to a scientific era. In the beginning of the essay Harvey says, Mary Shelley was no scientist, and her novel has no roots in science (21). What he means by this is that Shelley is just writing a horror story and that she did not intend to infringe upon the scientific community. What this does is lets the reader know ... He set out to challenge the belief of the church at the time. He came to the opinion, from his study of the gospel and the early church, that justification comes from God s gift of grace, that only must be accepted through faith. To have salvation, one must be justified in front of God. Luther struggled with this in his early years. He felt that to be saved he had to be righteous, which caused Luther an immense amount of guilt since he saw how unrighteous he was. However, soon he realized to be justified the only thing one must do is to have faith in God and His Son s resurrection. There is no amount of works that one could do to be justified; one must only have faith. Faith alone bring righteousnessand thus justification. Luther had a very strong belief that salvation comes from faith alone. All that is needed to be justified in front of God is to have faith. Michael M. Ramos writes Martin Luther believed that salvation depends not on human effort or merit but only on the freely given grace of God, which is accepted in faith (35). Luther believes that first God extends grace, which is the death of Jesus and the sending of the Holy Spirit. God reaches out to man and offers grace. • 27. Medical Ethics Of The Doctor Patient Relationship You may not control life s circumstances, but getting to be the author of your life means getting to control what you do with them (Atul Gawande). This quote, from renowned surgeon and essayist, Atul Gawande, expresses an important idea in medical ethics: patients possess a certain level of autonomy in the doctor patient relationship, and this autonomy needs to be respected by medical professionals. Ethically speaking, physicians owe their patients full disclosure about their diagnoses, treatment options, and any potential medical risks. Patients have the inherent right to know all aspects of their illness or malady, and it is not up to physicians to decide which information should be withheld from patients. Withholding information from patients breaks down any trust that may have existed within the physicianpatient relationship, and thus leads to an overall patient dissatisfaction towards the healthcare system. In any patient physician relationship, one of the most essential components is the element of trust. One patient remarks on the importance of trust by saying, We trust them not to use that expertise to exploit our vulnerability for their own interests...and we trust them to empower and enable us to place their recommendations into the full context of our own hierarchy of values (Pellegrino, Thomasma 1993). And once you get to your highest level, then you have to be unselfish. Stay reachable. Stay in touch. Don t isolate (Jordan). Many people would argue against the idea of needing to be selfish. Selfishness is viewed by society as being greedy and ignorant to what is going on in the world. Even though society has a negative view on selfishness, people are selfish because it is necessary to focus on achieving their own successes, and once they are successful, they then can take a step back and be concerned about other people. She said it over and over under her breath: free, free, free! (Chopin 477). The main character, Louise, wasn t concerned about her husband s death, instead she was excited to finally be free from him. This is an example of Louise having the need to be selfish. If she focused on her husband s death, then she would be unable to reach her full potential. Instead, by her being selfish, she becomes a stronger person, allowing her to be confident in her ability to live on her own and to live for herself rather than for other people. Connecting this back to Michael Jordan s quote, Louise will not be able to reach her full potential with her husband alive which causes her to be selfish and not care that he was reported dead. In March 1999 the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) justified the use of force against Yugoslavia, a country that at this time was having a number of atrocities being committed within it. This act welcomed by those that thought that the veto of the permanent five in the United Nations Security Councilsometimes block necessary cases of intervention. According to Sarooshi (2001) they believe morality should trump legality where governments commit mass atrocities. Some claim NATO s action is legal because it represents the crystallization in state practice of a new customary law of humanitarian intervention. The principle of Responsibility to Protect(R2P) was endorsed by the United NationsGeneral Assembly in 2005 and in 2006 the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reaffirmed the R2P principle. Lyon (2009) questions the validity of the R2P discourse. He describes it as a normative advancement of the idea of humanitarian intervention. Whilst Bellamy (2008) argues that R2P can be seen as a working language in the international community where cases of mass atrocities are being committed. • 33. Ed Fletcher s Response To The Message Ed Fletcher was one of the creators of the song The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, which was released in 1982. This song depicted a horrible scene of blacks living in the ghettos, which was relevant socially because of the issue of racism that was being addressed, and had been an issue for a long time. Although the book didn t mention much about his personal life, as a black man it is obvious why he would want to create a song that addresses racism towards blacks. The Message takes the approach of describing the awful treatment that people living in the ghettos were receiving, which was particularly relevant to the artists who created the song, like Ed Fletcher as I just mentioned, because they were all blacks who had likely experienced this situation. The lyrics used in the song, such as Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice, Rats in the front room, roaches in the back, Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat aid in connecting with the listener s sympathy for those who experience this, in... They lyrics are very straightforward, depicting a story through words such as, Got in a little hometown jam, so they put a rifle in my hand; Sent me off to a foreign land to go and kill the yellow man (Google). What s particularly ironic about this is that a lot of people thought that the song was very patriotic, even though it s lyrics clearly state the opposite. One reason the book suggested this might have been so was because people might not have even been listening to the lyrics, hence weakening the impact of his message. One reason why Springsteen might have created this song was because although he didn t have this experience himself, a lot of people his age had come home from the war not long before and received this rough ... It s called the Top Thrill Dragster, and I rode it last summer when we visited Ohio. That one ride taught me that I can do anything with enough determination. I stared up at the rollercoaster that was as fast as the fastest cheetah. Ok. I d said the words, now all I had to do was actually ride the rollercoaster. We got in the neverending line. The sign said it would take at least an hour before we got on the ride. The park had TVs set up throughout the line, advertising cotton candy, hotdogs, and their app, which puts everyone on teams that compete each day for points based on how many rides you go on. It also had music videos, games, trivia, and general information about the park. I could smell funnel cakes and all kinds of other foods. The line moved slowly, barely moving forward each time the cars went around the track. The track was short, but loading up the cars took awhile. Every group of people that went on had to have that quick safety speech. As we got closer to the front, I started sweating. It was already blazing hot outside, and the sun was burning, but that wasn t why I started sweating. My hands were sticky with sweat. I was as nervous as a cat. I ve never ridden a ride this fast. • 39. The Long Term And Short Term Effects Of Grade Skipping Essay The effects of grade skipping has been the focus of many researchers. Some want to find out if students who skip a grade are more likely to have advanced math skills, and if that would result in them going on to make contributions to the STEM field. Others want to know if and how it affects other aspects of the student, such as their language skills. In these studies, researchers investigate these questions to determine the both the long term and short term effects of grade skipping. Park, Benbow, and Lubunski (2013) used the Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth, a 40 year longitudinal study, to determine if skipping a grade has long term effects on performance in STEM fields. The main goal was to find if individuals who skipped a grade after identification at or before thirteen years of age were more likely to receive advanced degrees and accomplishments in STEM fields, reach those achievements faster than their peers who did not skip a grade, and were more productive in their careers at midcareer. Participants were chosen from the first three cohorts of the previous study, and were only used if they scored 390 or higher on the math subtest of the SAT. In the present study, to determine the accomplishments of the participants, they were given surveys to complete at age 33 that determined the degrees earned by each participant. He brought along his friend Katz to reflect and reacquaint his discovery on a 2,100 mile of the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail stretches from the two states of Georgia to Maine. They will be discussing their hilarious jokes that were witnessed in this novel. Here are few examples: Bryson said he wanted to use the bathroom in the woods, Mary Ellen was the controlling and impatient camper they met, and what Mary Ellen called and did for Bryson and Katz while on the trail. Bill Brysonand his friend Katz are determined to experience the Appalachian Trail, which creates amusing stories. First, Bill himself is hilarious. For example, the reader writes this quote: I wanted a little of that swagger that comes with being able to gaze at a far horizon through eyes of chipped granite and say with a slow, manly sniff, Yeah, I ve shit in woods. (Bryson 4) Bill Bryson said that because the restrooms on the trail were disgusting and completely appalling to go into. He probably meant that they were all taken by other camper and that he couldn t wait so he decided to use the restroom in the woods. Or he wanted to go in the restroom in the woods to prove a point to show other campers and animals that the woods are just nature. The Five Types Of Conflict And Interpersonal Communication Conflict and Interpersonal Communication In this paper, I will demonstrate the types of interpersonal conflict styles and ways of managing these communication conflicts. This will entail with a focus on characters in a film, and analyzing how these characters managed during this time of communication conflict. By focusing on characters and determining their conflict styles, ways of communication, and how the conflict resolved, always a way to study how the type of communication style can make an impact in everyday life. Conflict Management Styles The five strategies for managing conflict management are competing, avoiding, compromising, collaborating, and accommodating. Competing is a method that acts only in favor of your point in the argument. This style does not seek any cooperation with the other individual involved and the only focus is for your side of the argument to be the winning side. This approach can be selfish as it does not take the other individuals intentions, views, or feelings on the conflict into consideration. Avoiding the conflict does not require strength or consideration for the other person involved. When you avoid the conflict, you are pretending that it never happened or does not exists anymore. This style of conflict is when you simply avoid the issue altogether. This style does not work toward reaching the goal of either parties involved. This style can be effective when the atmosphere is emotionally charged and you need to create space (Meier, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Recasts And Prompts On L2 Learners Ammar and Spada (2006) investigated the effects of recasts and prompts on L2 learners written and oral ability across different proficiency levels. The study fits in with the previous research, as in previously the focus of research was just based on CF being a solution for low levels of grammatical efficiency, which have been explained as the proof against the accuracy of understandable input and exceptionally meaning based direction. The researchers have thus proposed FFI in CF, which is based both on reactive and proactive form of feedback and which has been proposed by the researchers as the most important way of attracting the learners towards language form in case of communicative classroom environment. The main motivation, just as in previous article, is to explore the form focused instruction as alternative way of instruction so as to make CF more proactive as well as reactive. The main hypothesis of this researchis that learners who have been more exposed to the communicative activities including components of the CF would probably get more benefits as compared to those who are exposed only to the communicative activities alone. For this purpose, there were 64 students, who were divided into three different groups in ESL classes in Montreal and there were two experimental conditions that were applied to them. One group had received the CF in the form of prompts as well as recasts. Similarly, other was the control group. The target structure was third person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tyson discussed the historical event that is crucial, yet was rarely spoke of until recent years. On November 10, 1989 Wilmington a majority black populated city as well as center of African American political and economic success a group of white supremacist burned down the building the local black newspaper resulting in the killing dozens of black residents, banishment of successful black leaders as well as their white supporters. The effects of this incident set path to the further expansion of white supremacy, and to an era of segregation, violence and repression. One of the main contribution to the success of the Democratic party ruled by white supremacist was the usage of the press, particularly newspapers, that carry propaganda to push the campaign in their favor. They exploited the power of the press to demonized black men as rapists who threatened the pure flower of Southern women (Tyson 7) and as tyrannical demons that threatens the white race. Racial superiority of whites was an ideology deeply ingrained, but the Democratic Party understood that it would be crucial to their campaign to fan [the ember of bigotry] to full flame (6). The major theme of the campaign became a mission to save white supremacy from Negro domination. Black men are portrayed as heinous and savage creatures that target the pure image of white women. ...
