Babylon during 18th century BC. Slavery thrived centuries later in the Mediterranean in the 13th
century, and the Portuguese slave trade began in the 15th century, supplying slaves to Europe.
While slavery existed in the past all over the world, the systematic kidnap and illegal trade of
humans thrived in the 18th century with the beginning of the triangular trade. Throughout the
records of the North Atlantic slave trade, it is recorded that 12.5 million Africans were kidnapped
and sold into slavery. The movie Amistad tracks one slave ship, out of the millions. The revolt,
court case, and subsequent release of the slaves aboard the ship The Amistad shows the pain and
suffering that came out of the slave trade. As the movie Amistad begins, we notice how slaves
are eager to escape, especially Cinque. His cleverness of harming himself to the extent of blood
seeping from his hands just to free himself physically and emotionally, helps draw one s attention
on the movie and on slavery as well. When everyone was freed, it was as if the roles were
switched. The slaves are now leaders while the two white sailors are held hostage. As a group we
noticed how the conversations were not translated, so it is up to the viewers to depict and realize
what is happening in the scene. Cinque and his friends did not rejoice

passed down from mother to daughter: a jar that had been Mrs. Ota s was now being used by
Chikako. After Mrs. Ota s death, it had passed to her daughter, and from Fumiko it had come to
Kikuji (Kawabata 108). To underscore these concepts and establish their importance in the novel,
the author demonstrates how tea vessels evolve into cultural artifacts, embodying values and
carrying tradition with them: It s a great waste not to use Shino for tea. You can t bring out the
real beauty of a tea piece unless you set it off against its own kind (Kawabata 27). The sixteenth

significance in their culture. The author emphasises the concept that tea... Show more content on

I sometimes look at it now that she is dead, and there does seem to be a sort of flush in one place
(Kawabata 93). Mrs. Ota s lipstick that has tainted the Shino not only represents the unique story
behind this individual tea vessel, but also shows how Mrs. Ota herself has imprinted the tea vessel.
Metaphorically, the characters actions intrinsically impact her daughter s life. After Mrs. Ota dies,
Fumiko inherits not only the tea vessel but also the wreckage of her complex relationship with
Kikuji. As a result, Fumiko cannot escape the past and is left feeling resentful towards her deceased
mother. Similarly, Kikuji s obsession and bizarre relationships with his father s former mistresses,
underscore the impact of his father s life on his own. In both cases the legacies of their parents
impact not only their emotions, but also their actions and choices. It is in this manner that the
author successfully uses the tea ceremony not only as a metaphor for the continuity tradition, but
also to convey the nature of intergenerational

Family Members Of Palliative Or End Of Life Patients
Family members of palliative or end of life patients tend to be very stressed about their loved one
and are often worried about the outcome, whether the circumstances were foreseen or not. Due to
a family member being incapable of carrying out normal roles, there are shifts in the family s
identity and function of roles in their daily routines (Brier, Del Gaudio, Kissane Zaider, 2011).
Many families show significant resilience and adaptation when facing stress such as this, but a
substantial minority of families become highly distressed when a familymember has palliative or
end of life illness, condition, or acute event (Brier et al., 2011). This stress and worry can lead to
grief and bereavement before and after death. This causes coping mechanisms to begin functioning
for the family members at the time of diagnosis or discovery or imminent end of life. Each is
family member is different and some may have a more difficult time in dealing with the death of
their loved one. These coping strategies related to grief will be further discussed as it pertains to
the family.
Family Coping With Palliative and End of Life Family Members
Palliative and end of life care is not the same term. Palliative care is a longer process than end of
life care and extends for months to years and may include attempted treatments to cure an illness
throughout that time and focuses on improving the quality of life for the patient and their families

Why I Play Basketball
Why I Play Basketball
Basketball. A great game that was originated in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891. Basketball
was created by a canadian gym coach who used peach baskets when it was raining and snowing
outside. Now the sport is played all over the world. One of the most popular sports in the world,
and I hated it. I hated this God given sport, until 4 years ago. When something great happened to
me on April 17 2010 I turned my perspective on basketball. I really hated basketball from the
beginning but then I changed throughout the way.
When I was really young around 4 10 I really loved soccer because it required endurance, speed,
and it was really fun to play. And from that time I really didn t like basketball. I thought that this
sport was the epitome to the league of sports. I thought that tennis was way better at the time.
And I wasn t a big fan of tennis. But I really didn t like the sport at all. I was athletically gifted at
the sport, like most other sports. I had the fundamentals from my father, and he tried to convince
me to play, but I still refused to associate myself with basketball. I even disliked to watch basketball
I would refuse to play with my siblings. And all that I encouraged other people to play was soccer.
The reason that I loved soccer was because my first gift was a soccer ball. Since that time I was
infatuated with soccer. I played it in my backyard and in the park. I never stopped playing for
anything even when it was dark like 9 o clock

Career And Career Goals In The Criminal Justice Career
The Criminal Justice career consists of many aspects such as law enforcement, corrections, and
courts. Therefore, having a short and long term career goals will help me stay focus on my area
of interest and eventually grow in my area of choice which is corrections with juveniles. My aim is
to work closely with juvenile offenders and the public with the hope to reduce reoffending and
thereby promoting rehabilitation. To be successful in goalplanning, you have to stay positive that
you can do what you have set to do, setting goals that are feasible and you have control over. In
addition, break down your goals into mini or small achievable task that you can revisit and once
completed will leave you time or motivate you to take another goal. Most importantly, is to set a
time frame for each goal to include dates and time. This will help keep track of your achievement
or the need to reevaluate any of your goals. Earning my Master s degree that seems too long in
the beginning is now less than a month away which can be very nervous of not knowing what my
career future holds. However, course like delinquency and Juvenile Justice, Research Methods,
Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Victimology and Criminal Investigation has
prepared me to be successful in my career path of choice. In addition to my educational
achievement are my self discipline and people s person skills. I like helping others to be successful

Revitalizing dell
Situation Statement Dell Computer Corporation was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell. From the
early 1990s until the mid 2000s, Dell was ranked as a PC market leader relying on their distinctive
marketing pattern Direct Model which undertook direct communication with customers and
provided customized products. Recently, the PC industry is facing inconceivable worldwide
competition, and Dell is gradually losing their competitive advantages by using its direct model in
critical business segments. The company is facing shrinkage of growth, increasing competition,
declining quality of customer service, and limitation of expansion. These issues have an enormous
impact on Dell s position as a technological giant in the PC industry.... Show more content on

Dell positioned itself as a successful differentiator; however, its competitive differentiation is no
longer an advantage for it due to the ease of their Direct Model imitation. Home and corporate
users dominate the five categories of buyers on PC consumption. There are large amounts of
these buyers in the market that are price sensitive and have low switching costs on their products
which raises overall buyers power. However, in the case of Dell, many customers became
frustrated with Dell. For example, Dell s call centers received manyf discouraged clients
comments. One reason: many service representatives were trained to solve only one category of
a problem, so almost 45% of calls had to be transferred from the agent who answered the call to
someone with the knowledge needed to help the customer. Richard L. Hunter, who was brought in
to improve Dell s customer service, called the situation terrible , explaining that it was comparable
to delivering materials to the wrong factory 45 percent of the time. Worse, to slow the tide of calls
from customers, Dell tried removing its toll free service number from its website. Customers
reactions showed up in Dell s declining market share and slumping customer satisfaction ratings
(Certo, 2013). Moreover, when Dell went on to expand its tech support outsourcing with other call
centres in India, customers began complaining. Consequently, Dell stopped being perceived as an

Essay about Racist Positivism in Latin America
The mutability of the postcolonial relationship between Indians and the republics becomes most
apparent after 1850. The ideals of liberty and equality went astray in the late nineteenth century
being destabilized by an upswing of another form political policy, liberalism. This liberalism was
interwoven with racismand sexism, and colored by positivist interpretations of science, society and
knowledge that were becoming common currency in Western Europe.
In order to understand the reaction to liberal policies of native populations in the late nineteenth and
early twentieth century, it is important to focus on the scientific method that was applied to social
phenomenon at the time. These new urban elites embraced the scientific ... Show more content on

The elites believed themselves to be closer to the progressive goal of European whiteness and that
the lower classes did not have the racial purity necessary to participate in national progress. The
theory of scientific racism was also used to justify the heavy handed, often violent treatment of the
peasant population. After all, the theory of positivism contended that the peasants were a lower
race, and justified exploitation under the guise of supervision and regulation. Positivism was
especially suited to reform because of its practical, disciplinary, and authoritarian inclinations
(Larson p.64). The elites plan to transform the republic into a better nation was part of a larger plan
to put themselves on the same progressive track as other European nations.
The Creole elite of Colombia were the first among the Andean republics to associate economic
retardation with the concept of racial weakness (Larson p.75). The convergence of postcolonial
concepts of class and race were used to blame poverty and misery on the victim, through fault of
their inferior race (Larson p.81). In Colombia, the liberal elite s plan to transform society into a
more progressive state was to gradually blend any kind of indigenous or African race with white
European immigrants, therefore whitening the population as a whole. The main source of the
whitening population was to come from European immigrants brought in to fill the gap left by the

High School Start Times Essay
Day after day students have to drag themselves out of bed extremely early in order to make it to
school on time, and as students get older, schools start earlier and earlier. Many schools around the
country start before the recommended time of 8:30 am, particularly high schools which start the
earliest. Starting school so early takes a toll on adolescents health, sleep schedules, and
concentration, which results in poor academic achievement and safety issues. High schools in the
Gresham Barlow school district should push back their school start times in order to provide safe

By the time they travel and arrive at school most of the year, it is still dark out, which is another
factor that can lead to fatigue and feeling tired for the duration of the day, and end up affecting
academic performance. According to a 2017 study published by Jennifer Heissel, an assistant
professor of Human Development and Social Policy at the Naval Postgraduate School, and
Samuel Norris, a professor of economics: We find that moving start times one hour later relative to
sunrise increases test scores by 0.08 and 0.06 standard deviations for adolescents in math and
reading . The improvements may not seem like much, but over a large scale of students it adds up
and becomes quite significant. These scores affect both students chances for college acceptance and
overall district ratings. Shouldn t we do all we can to improve? The study, published by Heissel
and Norris covers multiple institutions and school districts and shows increases in test scores
when students had an additional hour of daylight; however, students should have an additional
hour of daylight consistently throughout the year, not simply on exam days, in order for them to
be impacted entirely (Heissel and Norris). The reason being is students have dips in their sleep
wake cycles that cause drowsiness, and the biggest dip for teens occurs between 3:00 am and 7:00
am. Beginning school an hour later gives students an additional hour of sunlight early in the day to

Woodside, NY is a large and heavily populated neighborhood in western Queens. Primarily
consisting of working class to middle class residents, the neighborhood is both residential and
commercial. With a population of 90,000, it is home to both long term residents and recent
additions. When the neighborhood was first formed, few people dared to live on its uninviting
land. Snake infested swamps and wolves nearby kept the area from being developed or populated
for many years. However, towards the mid 19th century, farmers learned how to make the land

Incest Symbolism In Hamlet
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark states a character in the play Hamlet, written by
William Shakespeare (55). In this play, the Danish Monarchy has recently suffered the death of its
King, Hamlet, caused by the King s brother. Claudius then takes the throne and marries King
Hamlet s Queen, Gertrude and from this moment on Denmark begins to deteriorate. Shakespeare
creates this overarching theme of the deterioration of the monarchy to represent the collapse of the
entire state. He does this through developing the motif of incest and paralleling that motif to
poison, as the incest literally and symbolically represents the poison that kills the Danish Monarchy,
starting with King Hamlet. Hence, Shakespeare portrays the rotting of Denmark, through the
decaying monarchs symbolic incest and its allusion to poison, to depict Claudius role in destroying
Denmark.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is depicted in this line by Hamlet, Gertrude s son, who describes Claudius and Gertrude s
relationship as, a little more than kin and a little less than kind even though they are not closely
related (Shakespeare 26). Nevertheless, throughout the play Hamlet continually makes references to
this supposed incest, describing the monarchs relationship as ...an unweeded garden that grows to
seed (Shakespeare 29). Yet, the impact of this symbolic incest is far reaching as it poisons and
affects the entire kingdom. This parallel between the situation of the monarchy and the state is
depicted, by Shakespeare, when a Danish courier states that the cess of majesty dies not alone...
(163), meaning that the monarchs actions and cess affect the entire state. Thus, Shakespeare uses
this symbolic incest as it draws a parallel between the monarchs and the state as a whole, which
becomes crucial when considering the death of those

Film Hamlet Film Essay
William Shakespeare was one of the most remarkable storytellers that the world has known. His
ability to summarize the range of human emotions in verses, from his plays, is the greatest reason
for his popularity. Many of Shakespeare s plays have been acted towards audiences or filmed for
viewers. The film Hamlet, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is a drama/thriller film. It was released
December 25, 1996. It is the only non cut or shortened film version of the classic play updated to
the 19th century. To summarize, the film is about a prince named Hamlet, son of the king of
Denmark, who is traumatized by his father s murder. He is announced home for his father s funeral

Thus, by examining the film Hamlet, it is clear that Kenneth Branagh kept his film in a similar
fashion to the original play. Throughout the film, I noticed the remarkable acting. Back in the
Shakespearean era, rehearsal time was limited. Because of this, actors would do cue acting . This
is where a person would stand backstage and whisper the lines to the actor just before being said. In
this case, cue acting was not needed. Each actor portrayed their character flawlessly. They showed
emotion when needed, conformed their facial expressions when angry, sad, happy etc. and showed
passion throughout. For example, each character got the opportunity to perform a monologue.
Every individual nailed their facial expressions, emotions and the use of their body to tell the
story. You could tell that before they stepped on screen their lines were practiced extensively. With
the dedication and passion of each actor, Kenneth Branagh, was able to create the vison that he
had in mind to recreate the play of Hamlet. The costume designers did an amazing job throughout
the play representing the clothing during the Shakespearean era and reflected the person s social
ladder in society. In other words, there were rules that controlled what you could and could not
wear according to your social status. In the Hamlet film, the actors wore the clothing of the
Shakespearean time. Some were made for the actors

Five Principles Of Resilience
ORGANISATIONAL RESILIENCE: A REVIEW
Prof. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, Principal, Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing, Kanchipuram.
Introduction
The term Organizational Resilience may be new to many of us especially in nursing. Our
workplaces can face resilience which we should be able to manage. Resilience is an abstract term
that is used substantially across a range of disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, economics,
ecology, engineering and network theory, to name but a few. In its most general human context,
resilience can be stated as the ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change .
However, in its most generally accepted form, the term resilience refers to the way in which any
entity or system achieves an end state of keeping going .

1. Leadership: Resilience begins with enterprise leadership setting the priorities, allocating the
resources and making the commitments to establish organizational resilience throughout the
enterprise. Leadership achieves a balance between risk taking and risk containment to ensure
ongoing innovation, but in the context of prudent risk minimization.
2. Culture: The second component of organizational resilience is enterprise culture. A resilient
culture is built on principles of organizational empowerment, purpose, trust and accountability. A
resilient culture is built on a strong sense of trust between employees, management, suppliers and
partners. People assume responsibility without question. People commit to action and do what has
to be done regardless of rank, title or job description. A resilient organization is a passionate
organization, and it is this culture of passion that drives, achieves and rewards personal and team

The most common campaign strategies are strategic planning, time management, political
communication, and economic management. Here in the U.S. we have different voting options, for
example we have open and closed primaries. The difference between the two are that in an open
primary any one eligible to vote may do so without having any party affiliation. Whereas in a
closed primary only eligible voters with a party affiliation may vote. A political race is funded
by a PAC or a Political Action Committee. PAC s are formed from interest groups to raise money
for a political party or candidate. There are many different types of groups for example, Economic
Interest Groups, Business Groups, Trade Associations, and also groups that promote causes and
welfare. They influence much of the political campaign because the more money they provide a
candidate with the more chances of them getting elected. There has been many speculations over
these PAC s, therefore the government has put in place various laws to prohibit any unfairness in a
political campaign. One of these methods is the Federal Election Commission which inhibits the
amount of money which could be given to a candidate running for office. As citizens of the United
States we are given many rights. For example the right to vote. Some of the current basic U.S. voter
requirements are that you must be eighteen, and a U.S. citizen. At the

decision support systems, research has demonstrated and substantiated reduced decision cycle time,
increased employee productivity and more timely information for decision making. The time
savings that have been documented from using computerized decision support are often substantial.
Researchers have not however always demonstrated that decision quality remained the same or

quality and decision making effectiveness are however hard to document and measure. Most
research has examined soft measures like perceived decision quality rather than objective measures.
For example, Hogue and Watson (1983) reported the most important reason managers cited for

A Short Note On Security Assessment And Solutions-...
Security Assessment Solutions Aircraft Solutions
Executive Summary
This paper seeks to identify two security vulnerabilities in the Aircraft Solution s computer
network. The investigation identified one policy and one software vulnerability. The policy
vulnerability is the firewall and router rule set policy that requires a review of these settings every
two years. The recommendation is to have management develop and support a new policy that will
improve network security and abide by current federal laws and regulations.
The identified software vulnerability is that customers, clients and employees have the same
network privilege with access through a corporate firewall, as in the case of the Chula Vista
location, there is direct access to the internet over WAN without any policy restrictions. The
recommendation is to install additional host based firewalls on all servers and user computers. In
addition, remove the WAN connection at the Chula Vista location and route all network traffic
through the corporate firewall.

The Physical Effects Of Smoking On The Body
It can be seen that the effects of smoking on your body can be very drastic, for example smoke in
tobacco contains many dangerous chemicals such as Tar; Carbon monoxide; Hydrogen cyanide;
Oxidizing chemicals; Metals and finally radioactive compounds known to be carcinogenic.
The physical effects on the respiratory system, meaning that the system of organs in the body take
control for the input of oxygen and the exhalation of smoking, this consist of irritation of the
trachea (windpipe) and larynx (voice box), a reduced lung function and breathlessness due to
swelling of the lungs, an impairment of the lungs clearance system which results to lung irritation
and damage, an elevated risk of lung infections and permanent damage to the air sacs of the lungs.
Moreover, the damage of the respiratory system can progress and effect the circulatory system. For
example, there will be a raised blood pressure and heart rate which will exceedingly tighten the
blood vessels in the skin eventually leading to the drop in skin temperature. As less oxygen is
carried by the blood, the blood would be more prone to clotting.
Emotionally, smoking can damage your immune system by causing infections such as pneumonia
and influenza and more severely a longer lasting illness which can decrease the levels of protective
antioxidants (such as vitamin c). When your body takes in nicotine, emotions swing in the opposite
way when the drug is removed causing a nicotine withdrawal. Smokers under nicotine

Family As A Traditional Family
Family
Language constantly evolves and changes as it is adopted by different cultures. Consequently,
words have many definitions, connotations and origins. Family is a term that has changed over
time; as a result the traditional definition of family is inadequate, and limited to describe the
modern version of the term. Our society tends to attach itself to the traditional conceptualization of
family better know as a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological
offspring (Kompara). In America, known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many
implications for the word family thus there is no such thing as a traditional family. The traditional
definition, which is limited parents and their children, can no longer be used to describe an
American family because of our diverse and changing familial structures.
The word family dates back to the 13th century and is derived from Old French word famelie (
Family ). The word originally defined the relationship of group of people living under the same
roof, household [including servants] (1337), group of people related by blood, lineage (1442 4),
a group of people who share a common philosophy (1658) ( Family ). Growing up in a different
country, my culture taught me an immediate family only consists of a mother, a father and siblings.
But in America it s not as simple because there are many variants of a family.
American families are the most diverse, encompassing gay/lesbian

Na2co3 Synthesis Lab Report
IV. CONCLUSION _
In this experiment, a solution of Na2CO3 was reacted with a solution of CaCl2 to form a
precipitate of CaCO3. The theoretical yield of CaCO3 was calculated and then compared to the
actual yield of CaCO3. The results suggest that the Theoretical Yield was 4.2246 grams and the
Actual Yield was 4.24 grams, which gave a Percent Yield of 100.473% and a Percent Error of
0.473%. The actual yield was greater than the theoretical yield. It is suggested that it was greater
than because I used two different filter papers and I only measured one. If I had measured the
two different papers, I would probably obtain a different mass for each of them. Because I am
only off by 0.02 grams, that could have been the reason why I didn t get the mass I should have

Economic And Social Decay Of Detroit
Answer to question 1: As given, it is well known that Detroit has gone through decades of
economic and social decay and has one of the highest crime rates in the country. Meanwhile,
Boston is home to some of the top universities and medical schools in the world and has one of
the lowest crime rates. In order to investigate the above information, three socio economic
characteristics have been chosen here. They are median household income, per capita income
and individual below poverty line. When it comes, to assess the median household income, it is
noted that median household income indicates the average level of income per household. This
also explores that there are equal number of households that stay above this line and equal
number of households that stay below this line. As shown in the appendices, the median
household income for Boston remains far above that in Detroit. Therefore, it can be said that
people that stay in Detroit are comparatively poorer, which enhance the crime rate. Again, per
capita income of individuals can be defined as the total income of the city divided by its
population. Therefore, a low per capita income indicates that there are either low income level or
the volume of population is high. Now, both the low income level as well as high population
directly related with crime rate. This is the reason, why in Detroit, the crime rate is comparatively
higher than in Boston. It is known that there is a positive relationship between the social

Effective Communication in Team Dynamics Essay
Throughout personal and business lives everyone will eventually work in a team setting. A team
usually consists of three or more people who have a common goal or purpose. When working in a
team, members have to decide what roles they will fill, plan their schedules for projects, and deal
with upcoming team conflicts. Stewart, Sims Manz (1999) stated, For a team to succeed, team
members need to effectively communicate with one another (p. 79). While each element of
teamwork is important, effective communication is the cornerstone to team dynamics.
One of the main elements of effective communication is open discussions. Everyone on the team
needs to be willing to share his or her point of view. De Janasz, Dowd Schneider (2002) ... Show

Once the team has achieved open communication the team members will be more willing to
encourage each other, which will lead to more creativity and risk taking. This creativity will be
achieved by trusting that the communication will be heard, discussed and tried if it will help the
team reach its goals. Temme and Katzel (1995) wrote that risk taking plays a major role in the
creative process. Trust and open communication will lead to brainstorming and sharing of ideas
between the team members. Therefore, team members must try new things to see if the ideas
presented will benefit the ultimate outcome and help achieve the final goal.
Eventually every team will have a conflict. Since conflict is inevitable, effective communication is
vital for the team success. The team needs to figure out what the conflict is, what needs to be done
to get the team going again, what the options are and how they will solve the conflict in a way that
is beneficial to the team (University of Phoenix, 2004). Without effective communication, this
process of conflict resolution would fail. The team members would not be willing to share their
point of view, teamwork would stall, and the conflict would escalate. Once a conflict escalates, the
team will have a hard time coming back together and trusting each other to accomplish the set goals.
The team must be able to communication openly and discuss solutions

Equal Employment Opportunity Law Small Business
Equal Employment Opportunity Law Small Business
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a five member body appointed by
the President to establish equal employment opportunity policy under the laws it administers (p.
827, Twomey Jennings, 2014). The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it
illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person s race, color,
religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic
information (Overview, EEOC, 2014). These federal laws include Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
of 1964, as amended in 1972, 1978, and 1991, along with the Equal Pay Act (EPA), and the Age
Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA).
Most employers with at least 15 employees are covered by EEOC laws. The EEOC website very
clearly warns that not all small businesses are covered by the laws the EEOC enforces, therefore
not all employees are protected. According to the 2012 U.S. Census Bureau, more than 47% of all
U.S. businesses have fewer than 10 employees (p.43, Gentry et al., 2013). This means a significant
portion of the workforce is not protected under EEO Law.
Defining Small Business There is a reason the term small business is vague; it reflects the lack of a
generally accepted definition. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has established
numerical definitions of small businesses. These size standards vary to reflect industry

The Crucible Of Life Has Provided Me With An...
Reading The Crucible of Life has provided me with an epistemological system to begin my
journey into serious theological contemplation. I have thoroughly enjoyed thinking about the
interrelationship of reason, experience, and scripture. Foremost, the relationship of reason and
experience has proved highly. Understanding the ways in which reason and experience relate to
each other is a tricky concept indeed and it is one that I look to in order to discern the process of
learning in general. It is this process that allows learning to occur.
Also, this process must begin at some point. This point, as suggested by Wesley, begins with the
authoritative information of scripture for trans sensory understanding and it has been interesting

I do not buy into this distinction and I do believe that an authoritative canon adequately deals with
the interaction problem. Any further questions about reality itself do not effect us and, therefore,
are meaningless to us.
Additionally, the realization of an overly pragmatic theology found in chapter nineteen proved
interesting; especially in consideration of Wesley s Experiential Theology. We mustn t become
overly skeptical in our beliefs if we wish to discover as many new ideas that we possibly can. In
this case, the best option would be the option that does not rule out an option unless logical
necessity urges otherwise. We must remain consistent in our analysis of the hermeneutical spiral if
we wish to continue through it in an appropriate, reasonable way. This sort of idea holds true for
any hermeneutical process, but it is especially significant in the method that Wesley offers because
of its reliance on correct understanding for scriptural, and then experiential, interpretation. Improper
interpretation can lead to drastically false beliefs if carried on for too long.
Correspondingly, we must apply the most accurate and consistent experience in order to receive the
results that more accurately point towards truth in Wesley s system. So, if we wish to perform
Wesley s method in the most probable fashion to produce truth known to humankind, we must
provide the hermeneutical process with the

The Athen Civilization Of Ancient Greek Culture
The Athen Civilization was one of the greatest examples of what a flourishing city state could be.
During the Golden Age, Greek civilization was destroyed by an enemy of the city the Persians. At
that time, the people of ancient Greece produced amazing architecture. The Parthenon was one of
many amazing things created by ancient Greeks. This building was constructed to be a grand
symbol of Athens. This building and the surrounding architecture stood for the representation of
Greek culture. Some ancient Greek values, beliefs, and skills that are represented by the Parthenon
are the belief in being strong, having the most beautiful and grandest architecture and, having the
most logical philosophy.
Many Greek people valued strength and believed that it was the most important virtue of all.
According to the article Athens was determined to be the most powerful, so for them to do that
they decided to organize campaigns. In these campaigns they decided that building a grand building
was the way to go; and in these buildings they would place grand statues. The Parthenon building
was filled with statues one of them being of the greek goddess Athena. Athena was made of ivory
and covered in gold; she also is depicted as having a spear and a shield in her hand. The sculptor

Passion And Love In KillingsAndA Rose For Emily
These two short stories delve on the theme of passion, crime and morality. The violence
committed in both stories is deployed with the threat of love and with the longing for love as
well. Killings portrays a father s love to his child and the desire to avenge his death. However, the
own crime he has committed led to self destruction and some sort of self murder. The character is
in ironic position since he was confronted with the ardent desire to revenge and the guilt that came
with it. Anger and righteousness can be sympathetically felt with the character. Similarly, A Rose
for Emily portrays love as the root cause of the crime. In this story, the father suppressed his
daughter s womanlife which eventually led to her killing her lover to find eternal love. The two
stories are the same in some aspect in terms of the theme which revolves on passion and crime.
However, the character differs greatly on the impact of the crime committed by them. In Killings,
the character felt guilt and a sort of self death. The character in A rose for Emily on the other hand,
died with no remorse for what she committed.
The story of Killings by Andre Dubus centers on the theme of vengeance. The lead character,
Matt Fowler, plotted revenge on the young man who killed his son. The act of killing was more
of a private vengeance rather than an act of protection. However, Matt Fowler s act was even
motivated by the desire to protect his wife who suffered tremendously just by seeing the

The Theological Ideas Of Pope Francis
As the world modernizes at unprecedented rates and becomes increasingly secular, there is
increasing scrutiny on the Church and her actions. The Church, plagued by sex scandals and
slandered for its rejection of many new ideas, is often dismissed as obsolete and unable to keep
pace. Therefore, it has to adapt its teachings to fit the current global situation while keeping true its
core values. At the forefront of this mission is PopeFrancis who must also guide the Church through

This idea in turn renders the question of universal truth no longer relevant since religion seems to
lie at the root of fanaticism . The Church attributes the fear of a common truth as the causality of
relativism since humans identify it with the intransigent demands of totalitarian systems.
However, if the truth is a truth of love , then it can be set free from its enclosure in individuals
and become part of the common good argues the Church. In other words, there is only one truth,
a truth of love, which remains true in every case, improves and sustains its adherents, and
precedes all human life. The Church argues in Lumen fidei that rather from us possessing truth, it
is truth which embraces and possesses us. It is a truth to which all life is subservient whether one
acknowledges it or not thus making relativism invalid. With this concept in mind, the encyclical
tackles skepticism caused by empiricism. It argues that although it is impossible to verify if
Christianity has encountered the real Jesus it is not a reason to discredit the Church because it is
not the only way people can attain knowledge . The other way of attaining knowledge is through
others, the encyclical says: Our own knowledge and self awareness are relational; they are linked
to others who have gone before us. Language is perhaps the best example of the

The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century
The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal
welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural
theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas,
the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address
traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second,
to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull
baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin
succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more

for the day. Also, we would both create various model artworks to inspire her students to create
something more original and imaginative. She wheeled her cart through certain elementary classes
depending on her schedule. Depending on the grade level she was assign to that day, we were able
to teach her students the fundamental concepts of arts and major art movements, all in 30 minutes.
Every three weeks, she would focus on a concept, artist, or art movement. Additionally, she would
assign vocabulary words, which her students would copy and also had access to them online on
Quizlet. At the end, she would administer a summative test on everything they learned for the past
three weeks. On the other hand, Ms. Lee s middle schoolclasses were different, more one on one,
and it was a one hour period. Her students were able to recreate impressionist and expressionist
artworks, such as Monet s Water Lilies, Van Gogh Starry Night and The Bedroom on wall sized
canvases. Despite the diversity of art concepts taught, it can become quite difficult for one teacher
to teach 23 elementary classes and 11 middle schoolclasses. As part of the Miami Dade College

Essay About A Short Story
Yeah? asked Peggy with a little upward reflection. Yep, yeahs, and ah huhs were all replied back
to her, but when Peggy took notice of what Zack sounded like, her gray eyes shifted firmly to
him and then bulged from out her head. Jesus, what the hell happened to you? Bit my tongue,
Zack said, but it came out as, Yet may ungue. He slipped on a patch of ice and mud near the
volunteer facilities, Sean said thinking fast. Lost his footing and went down hard slamming his
chin onto the ground. Everyone concurred. Well, it looks like it s swollen pretty good, maybe you
should go to the hospital? I ll E alight, Zack tried to respond. Okay, then... shrugged Peggy. I ll at

I m on it, Sean said as he shot up from his seat and took off heading back out the door s of the
doughnut shop. Phillip, how did you get that? asked Leland. May I see it? Phillip handed it over.
I took it off this guy, Lorenzo Hubbard, after I smacked him in the face with a metal locker door
in the place s changing room. I didn t want to do it... I had no choice, though. He knew who I
was... He knew I was a... Slug? Yeah, that s what he called us. My kind. Alright, give it here,
Sean requested as he had already come back inside the store and began setting up a laptop
computer on the adjacent table. Leland complied. Do you think we ll be able to get anything off
of it? asked Boyd as he directed his attention towards anyone who would answer. I would assume
they would have terminated this ID s access by now. No doubt, they did, Leland responded. But,
if Lorenzo Hubbard here was too embarrassed about having his ass kicked by a slug and didn t
want anyone finding out about it... Or, even doesn t realize yet that Phillip took his ID access card
from him... then just maybe, he might have held off on contacting central command. Where we at,

Character Development Of Hamlet
Hamlet s character drastically develops over the first four acts of Hamlet, and his character
development is most evident through the soliloquys he delivers throughout the play. The most
character development can be seen from the first soliloquy, to the second, the third, the sixth, and
the seventh and final soliloquy. Hamlets inner conflict with his thoughts and his actions are well
analyzed in his soliloquys, as well as his struggles with life and death, and his very own
existence. He begins the play wondering what purpose he has in life now that his father is dead
and his mother has remarried to his uncle. After finding out foul play was involved in his father s
death, he is motivated by revenge. Finally, he wonders how he can enact his revenge while
continuously overthinking and overanalyzing his actions. In Act I, scene II, Hamlet delivers his
first soliloquy after his mother and new step dad/uncle Claudius try to convince him to get over
the death of his father, and to accept their rather hasty marriage. In his first soliloquy, Hamlet
questions whether or not he should kill himself, and curses God for making suicide a sin.
Hamlet is also fixated on his mother s rushed marriage to his uncle, not even a month after his
father s death. Hamlet says, A little month, or ere those shoes were old/with which she followed
my poor father s body (Lines 146 147). He is very hooked on the fact that his mother wore the
same shoes to her wedding as she did to her husband s funeral, not even having time in between
to break the shoes in. Hamlet wishes he could say whatever he wants and express his disgust
about his mother s marriage and his hatred for his uncle, but since his uncle is the reigning King
of Denmark, he has to hold his tongue and show respect for the king. This first soliloquy
introduces the reader to Hamlet s indecisiveness and over analytical mindset. Hamlet is confronted
by the ghostly figure of his father in Act I, scene V. Hamlet s father informs him that he had been
murdered by Claudius. King Hamlet tells his son to avenge his death, but doesn t specify how.
King Hamlet also tells Hamlet to leave his mother out of the revenge plot, as King Hamlet believes
Claudius seduced Queen Gertrude. King

Anti-Semitism In Ww2
Desmond Tutu once said, if you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the
oppressor. The United States of America knew about the atrocities being committed in World War
II, and still did nothing. America is complicit in the deaths of all those we turned away. When the
St. Louis brought us Germany s huddled masses yearning to breathe free, we turned away, dooming
so many souls on that ship. But why? Are we not a nation created by immigrants fleeing
persecution? The cold, hard truth of the matter is that the United Stateslet six million people die
because of institutionalized anti semitism, which impacted the economic crisis and isolationist
policy within the government.
In 1883 Emma Lazarus wrote upon the Statue of Liberty give me your tired, your poor, your
huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Apparently, in the 1930s, unless they re Jewswas added in
fine print. Of course, anti semitism in the United States was nothing new, especially in cities.
Jewish people were banned from hotels, businesses, and even beaches. It was perfectly legal for
someone to be fired because he or she was Jewish. That is why, when Hitler came to power,
America did not even flinch. In fact, many Americans rallied behind his intense nationalist policies.

However, much of that work would have been unnecessary had our immigration policy not been
racist and exclusionary. We had knowledge of where the concentration camps were and what was
being done in each, and could have easily diverted manpower to bomb the camps and free the
prisoners. Instead we bombed munitions stores and urban centers (McIntyre). We had the
opportunity to save 937 lives. They were on our shores, ready to leave with papers and hope, and
we turned them away. In the Holocaust, 254 of those people

Indigenous Languages For Urban Alaskans
I was born and grew up in Ukraine. In 2008 I came to Alaska for the first time as an exchange
student. I was fascinated by the richness of traditions and natural beauty of this land. I lived in
Alaska for 5 years. As a linguist I quickly became interested in languages and dialects of Alaskan
natives and Russian descendants. During that time I was actively researching about the programs
aimed at revitalization of indigenous languages for urban Alaskans. I was meeting with Russian old
believers living on Kenai Peninsula trying to learn more about my own culture and the history of
Russian Orthodox Church.

With almost 4 years of teaching and tutoring experience I realized that teaching is an ideal
profession to help others to determine and reach their potential.
In 2006 I have entered Cherkassy National University (Ukraine) where I pursued my B. Ed in
Linguistics. Throughout my academic career I held two internships with Cherkassy School district.
For over six months I was teaching Russian language and literature to the 7th grade students. I was
also tutoring in a writing lab, and meeting with my students for a reading club.
During my summer breaks in 2008 and 2009 I participated in student exchange program Work and
Travel USA, in order to learn more about the United States and its culture. In 2009 I started
teaching Russian language to the international exchange students from the United States and the
United Kingdom. At that time I learned a lot about international education and started considering
my second degree overseas.
In 2015 I started pursuing my second B.A. degree in International Studies with Philosophy minor at
the University of Alaska Anchorage. This degree became a great addition to my work and life
experience. It expanded my vision on global issues, taught me to think critically, evaluate and
question things, and to be more empathic.
In 2015 during the fall semester I had an opportunity to work with refugee students at the Wendler

Analysis of Chapter 3 of Kurth Vonnegut s Slaughter House...
In this essay I will be stylistically analysing an extract from Chapter 3 of Kurt Vonnegut s novel;
Slaughterhouse Five. I am particularly interested in the effects different perspectives have
throughout my extract, as well as the effects of the narrative structure and if it conforms or diverges
from the typical models of narrativestructure. I am also going to be analysing the characterisation
of different figures in my extract and the impressions these give on the characters. I will also be
looking at how dialogue is represented and the overall effects of different devices. I am expecting
to find that Vonnegut uses a mixture of different perspectives throughout which may be difficult to
extract from each other. I also expect to find... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In doing so, this suggests that even though he is of a higher rank than them they don t see him this
way and see no need to pay attention to him. Bob would be therefore losing his higher status and is
trying to regain it by delivering an influential speech.
During the dialogue between Wild Bob and Billy it is important to note the act of turn taking. As
Billy withholds participation, Bob is forced to speak again, meaning that turn taking is not
fulfilled here. This gives the impression that Billy is a weak character who isn t really aware of the
situation and appears to have little knowledge about the topic. Billy couldn t remember the outfit he
was from (Vonnegut 1969: 55).
As Bob speaks for longer, and has a lot more turns in the conversation than Billy it shows that he in
charge of the soldiers and his status is evident through this conversation. He also controls the topic
of the conversation. Again, this displays that despite his physical and mental health he is still a
strong, sure and higher status soldier than Billy and it is evident that Billy recognises this.
Next I will discuss the characterisation throughout my extract. Firstly I will consider how thought is
represented. The main representation of thought that the narrator uses is indirect though. This can
be seen firstly where the narrator reports on what Roland Weary is thinking All Weary could think
about was the agony in his own feet (Vonnegut 1969: 55). This type of

The Psychological Disorder Of Depression
The human brain is one of the most important organs in your body. A lot of research has been
done on it and there are many things that still remain a mystery. The mind gives us the capability
to think and act; without it we would not be able to function. The mind is so advanced that it
can rewire itself and adapt to new situations. This paper will explore and discuss the film Girl
Interrupted (1996) by exploring the psychological disorder of depression. Depression is a mood
disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest (mayoclinic.org). When
discussing depression, Patty from Girl Interrupted will be mentioned, the way society deals with
depression will be discussed, and treatments for the psychological disorder will also be given.
Depression is very common among the population and it does not discriminate against gender or
ethnicity. There are many theories to why depression arises: faulty mood regulation by the brain,
genetic vulnerability, stressful life events, medications, and medical problems
health.Harvard.edu). Chemicals in the brain are also responsible for causing depression. One can
have too much of one chemical and not enough of the other which causes an unbalance in the
brain. Depression is one of the most common illness worldwide, Globally, more than 350 million
people of all ages suffer from depression (Who.int), but women are more prone to be impacted by
this psychological disorder.Polly was a character in Girl Interrupted

Interview With A Graphic Designer
I have chosen these questions to ask my Interviewee Neville Brody who is a very famous
Graphic Designer who is well respected in his field and internationally known because I feel it
is very important to understand the thought process that goes into designing some of the worlds
best pieces of work ever created. I would like first hand knowledge coming from Brody himself
and not any online articles or journals that I might have read up on. The thought process of
design thinking is a very independent thing, you can only learn by repeatedly attempting day
after day of new methods of research and how you apply them to your idea. I feel that a lot of
people such as fresh students who seek guidance, also young graduates and even sometimes
professional graphic designers who have been seen as an expert in their field lack the
knowledge of understanding a great design thinking strategy or need aide in this domain. Design
thinking is all about the design specific skills that a designer applies during the process of
designing, not specifically needing to be a graphic designer as this thought process can be applied
to a lot of people in the creative industries such as interior and exterior designers, game designers
and even architects. Design thinking has now come to be characterised as fusing the appreciation of
other designers and people that can produce beautiful projects and incorporating it into your own
work. It s the imaginative concept and the coherence to figure out the

Trump s Argumentative Analysis
The definition of perpetuation of misinformation is false or inaccurate information, especially that
which is deliberately intended to deceive. Although, some articles tend to lean to one side to make
their argument valid, purposely leaving out the other side, while others give a neutral view, not
showing favor of either side, but it all depends on one question. Who s responsible for it, the media
or the reader? The media spreads the articles whether or not they contain the truthtrue to express
their own beliefs, whereas, the readers decide if it is worth believing, formed from values, beliefs
or credibility. The Trade War between China and the United States took place around the beginning
of last year, when Trump announced an investigation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the reading, the author expresses how there will not be a trade war between the
first and second largest economies because of the economic damage of a trade war is
comparable to that of a real war. The announcement of tariffs are seen as a form of game playing
between China and the U.S along with problems of high level interactions and economic
dialogues due to the lack of comprehensive and mature exchange mechanisms to address issues
properly. The intended audience seems to be the Chinese people and can be seen when states,
One interesting aspect of this debate is the stance of relatively radical Chinese people. This
group argues that, as the United States has always been tough on China for over the years,
China should take this trade war as an opportunity to teach the United States a lesson in order to
make the United States more polite when dealing with China in the future. The reason as to why
the Chinese people are the intended audience is because this article is in the citizens of China s
perspective. There are multiple viewpoint of different Chinese citizens take on the trade war and
who is at fault and what would be the outcome of the trade war, as well as there are no viewpoints
from the US side, creating the article in favor of China. What makes the source not

My Strengths And Weaknesses Of My Leadership Style
One of the most beneficial tools that an individual can engage in is self improvement. This
course has reemphasized active listening, reactive and reflective thinking, inspirational
motivation, discipline model, and the insist and cooperate negotiation. Each module has helped
to demonstrate the areas of strengths and weaknesses in my leadership style. I plan on
improving my weaknesses and sharing my strengths with others. I have noticed a trend in all of
the modules that I do not stop and try to process information. I try to innovate and insist on
solutions for a quick fix. This can make me unapproachable for my subordinates because I am
ready to implement a solution as soon as I hear of a problem. My peers can also feel as if I am
being pushy when I hear of a problem and try to implement a solution. My supervisors see that I
am very proactive and try to find and fix any problem or perceived problem that I am presented
with. I spend majority of my time in the transformational leadership range. I plan on improving my
leadership style by using active listening, reactive and reflective thinking, and insist and cooperate
negotiation. Active listening is important because I want Airmen knowing I engage them when
they speak with me. I will continue to use active listening throughout my career. I realize I don t
stop working when Airmen speak with me. I had one of my subordinates, say I need you to pay

The Awakening Heroine s Journey
Edna Pontellier, from The Awakening by Kate Chopin, finds herself crying for no apparent reason,
with the voice of the sea comforting and inviting her to its depths. It is this moment that Edna
realizes her unhappiness is due to an oppression within her. The Awakening is set in the late
nineteenth century during summer vacation on the island named, Grand Isle, and follows the self
discovering journey of EdnaPontellier. Edna s husband LГЁonce Pontellier leaves for a business

This shows that Edna uses the power her husband holds as a temporary way to identify herself with
something other than the feminine, in this case his power he holds with money. The state that their
marriage is in can be seen when Edna shares pГўtes, French for small pies, with the neighboring
women and they all declare how Mr. Pontellier is the best husband in the world. The narrator
uses the third person limited to show that Edna felt forced to say how she knew of none better.
Separation from the feminine is only the beginning of a heroine s journey, however; it is not
completely necessary for someone to go through the entire heroine s circle, everyone s journey
is different. Edna s separation from the feminine is due to her lack of a role model and also
because she lacked a mother figure. It is mentioned in The Awakening that Edna s mother had
passed away which makes the separation from the mother an easier bond to break. Since Edna
had no mother figure she sought approval from a father figure and began her Identification with
the Masculine of a heroine s journey. When she marries LГ©once, he fails to give to her the
male figure to look up to and altogether wounds her sense of self from the lack of someone to
follow. This leads into the need to break away from the patriarchy to pursuit the needs of a woman.
Murdock explains this lack of self approval as how women always put others first, never putting
themselves first

Internship Interflection
My end of internship impression of Menards has changed a lot over the duration of my time in
many ways that the corporate office does actually care about its team member by offering a
benefits package, offering team members on weeks adding an extra $2.50 to the hourly wage,
whenever a national holiday comes around John MenardsJr. will send a letter with a card that offer
you to buy something in the store for free or offers a check that can be used in the store, and
every team member also can receive a 10% discount on any purchase with the store too. Another
way that surprised me was if you hard work, your managers notice, and inform corporate office
that you make receive a small pay increase. My opinion of the workplace knows I have realized
that the strict with their policies and procedures, but honestly, they seem to be more of a
guideline on what to follow, it is actually more of a laid back work environment but in a good
that managers don t micromanage. Some takeaways from my internship at Menard, is I have
discovered that I have a hidden talent for sales that did not know about. An example of this they
have been guest that have asked have you worked retail before because I was impressed with
quality of service you just offered. I learned a lot about myself that I have more patients than I
give myself credit for because they are days I am working with a guest that is beyond indecisive or

  • 3. Analysis Of The Book Amistad Amistad Paper Anna Intro and Closing Dejaв†’ 1 5 Ryanв†’ 6 10 Valerieв†’ 11 16 Wyntonв†’ 19 23 The earliest record of slavery was in the Code of Hammurabi, which originated in Babylon during 18th century BC. Slavery thrived centuries later in the Mediterranean in the 13th century, and the Portuguese slave trade began in the 15th century, supplying slaves to Europe. While slavery existed in the past all over the world, the systematic kidnap and illegal trade of humans thrived in the 18th century with the beginning of the triangular trade. Throughout the records of the North Atlantic slave trade, it is recorded that 12.5 million Africans were kidnapped and sold into slavery. The movie Amistad tracks one slave ship, out of the millions. The revolt, court case, and subsequent release of the slaves aboard the ship The Amistad shows the pain and suffering that came out of the slave trade. As the movie Amistad begins, we notice how slaves are eager to escape, especially Cinque. His cleverness of harming himself to the extent of blood seeping from his hands just to free himself physically and emotionally, helps draw one s attention on the movie and on slavery as well. When everyone was freed, it was as if the roles were switched. The slaves are now leaders while the two white sailors are held hostage. As a group we noticed how the conversations were not translated, so it is up to the viewers to depict and realize what is happening in the scene. Cinque and his friends did not rejoice ... After Mrs. Ota s death, it had passed to her daughter, and from Fumiko it had come to Kikuji (Kawabata 108). To underscore these concepts and establish their importance in the novel, the author demonstrates how tea vessels evolve into cultural artifacts, embodying values and carrying tradition with them: It s a great waste not to use Shino for tea. You can t bring out the real beauty of a tea piece unless you set it off against its own kind (Kawabata 27). The sixteenth century old tea vessel in reference holds great value due to its age and history, also revealing its significance in their culture. The author emphasises the concept that tea... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I sometimes look at it now that she is dead, and there does seem to be a sort of flush in one place (Kawabata 93). Mrs. Ota s lipstick that has tainted the Shino not only represents the unique story behind this individual tea vessel, but also shows how Mrs. Ota herself has imprinted the tea vessel. Metaphorically, the characters actions intrinsically impact her daughter s life. After Mrs. Ota dies, Fumiko inherits not only the tea vessel but also the wreckage of her complex relationship with Kikuji. As a result, Fumiko cannot escape the past and is left feeling resentful towards her deceased mother. Similarly, Kikuji s obsession and bizarre relationships with his father s former mistresses, underscore the impact of his father s life on his own. In both cases the legacies of their parents impact not only their emotions, but also their actions and choices. It is in this manner that the author successfully uses the tea ceremony not only as a metaphor for the continuity tradition, but also to convey the nature of intergenerational ... • 5. Family Members Of Palliative Or End Of Life Patients Family members of palliative or end of life patients tend to be very stressed about their loved one and are often worried about the outcome, whether the circumstances were foreseen or not. Due to a family member being incapable of carrying out normal roles, there are shifts in the family s identity and function of roles in their daily routines (Brier, Del Gaudio, Kissane Zaider, 2011). Many families show significant resilience and adaptation when facing stress such as this, but a substantial minority of families become highly distressed when a familymember has palliative or end of life illness, condition, or acute event (Brier et al., 2011). This stress and worry can lead to grief and bereavement before and after death. This causes coping mechanisms to begin functioning for the family members at the time of diagnosis or discovery or imminent end of life. Each is family member is different and some may have a more difficult time in dealing with the death of their loved one. These coping strategies related to grief will be further discussed as it pertains to the family. Basketball was created by a canadian gym coach who used peach baskets when it was raining and snowing outside. Now the sport is played all over the world. One of the most popular sports in the world, and I hated it. I hated this God given sport, until 4 years ago. When something great happened to me on April 17 2010 I turned my perspective on basketball. I really hated basketball from the beginning but then I changed throughout the way. When I was really young around 4 10 I really loved soccer because it required endurance, speed, and it was really fun to play. And from that time I really didn t like basketball. I thought that this sport was the epitome to the league of sports. I thought that tennis was way better at the time. And I wasn t a big fan of tennis. But I really didn t like the sport at all. I was athletically gifted at the sport, like most other sports. I had the fundamentals from my father, and he tried to convince me to play, but I still refused to associate myself with basketball. I even disliked to watch basketball I would refuse to play with my siblings. And all that I encouraged other people to play was soccer. The reason that I loved soccer was because my first gift was a soccer ball. Since that time I was infatuated with soccer. I played it in my backyard and in the park. • 9. Revitalizing dell Situation Statement Dell Computer Corporation was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell. From the early 1990s until the mid 2000s, Dell was ranked as a PC market leader relying on their distinctive marketing pattern Direct Model which undertook direct communication with customers and provided customized products. Recently, the PC industry is facing inconceivable worldwide competition, and Dell is gradually losing their competitive advantages by using its direct model in critical business segments. The company is facing shrinkage of growth, increasing competition, declining quality of customer service, and limitation of expansion. These issues have an enormous impact on Dell s position as a technological giant in the PC industry.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dell positioned itself as a successful differentiator; however, its competitive differentiation is no longer an advantage for it due to the ease of their Direct Model imitation. Home and corporate users dominate the five categories of buyers on PC consumption. There are large amounts of these buyers in the market that are price sensitive and have low switching costs on their products which raises overall buyers power. However, in the case of Dell, many customers became frustrated with Dell. For example, Dell s call centers received manyf discouraged clients comments. One reason: many service representatives were trained to solve only one category of a problem, so almost 45% of calls had to be transferred from the agent who answered the call to someone with the knowledge needed to help the customer. Richard L. Hunter, who was brought in to improve Dell s customer service, called the situation terrible , explaining that it was comparable to delivering materials to the wrong factory 45 percent of the time. Worse, to slow the tide of calls from customers, Dell tried removing its toll free service number from its website. Customers reactions showed up in Dell s declining market share and slumping customer satisfaction ratings (Certo, 2013). Moreover, when Dell went on to expand its tech support outsourcing with other call centres in India, customers began complaining. Consequently, Dell stopped being perceived as an American role ... The ideals of liberty and equality went astray in the late nineteenth century being destabilized by an upswing of another form political policy, liberalism. This liberalism was interwoven with racismand sexism, and colored by positivist interpretations of science, society and knowledge that were becoming common currency in Western Europe. In order to understand the reaction to liberal policies of native populations in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, it is important to focus on the scientific method that was applied to social phenomenon at the time. The elites believed themselves to be closer to the progressive goal of European whiteness and that the lower classes did not have the racial purity necessary to participate in national progress. The theory of scientific racism was also used to justify the heavy handed, often violent treatment of the peasant population. After all, the theory of positivism contended that the peasants were a lower race, and justified exploitation under the guise of supervision and regulation. Positivism was especially suited to reform because of its practical, disciplinary, and authoritarian inclinations (Larson p.64). The elites plan to transform the republic into a better nation was part of a larger plan to put themselves on the same progressive track as other European nations. The Creole elite of Colombia were the first among the Andean republics to associate economic retardation with the concept of racial weakness (Larson p.75). The convergence of postcolonial concepts of class and race were used to blame poverty and misery on the victim, through fault of their inferior race (Larson p.81). In Colombia, the liberal elite s plan to transform society into a more progressive state was to gradually blend any kind of indigenous or African race with white European immigrants, therefore whitening the population as a whole. Starting school so early takes a toll on adolescents health, sleep schedules, and concentration, which results in poor academic achievement and safety issues. • 17. Incest Symbolism In Hamlet Something is rotten in the state of Denmark states a character in the play Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare (55). In this play, the Danish Monarchy has recently suffered the death of its King, Hamlet, caused by the King s brother. Claudius then takes the throne and marries King Hamlet s Queen, Gertrude and from this moment on Denmark begins to deteriorate. Shakespeare creates this overarching theme of the deterioration of the monarchy to represent the collapse of the entire state. He does this through developing the motif of incest and paralleling that motif to poison, as the incest literally and symbolically represents the poison that kills the Danish Monarchy, starting with King Hamlet. Hence, Shakespeare portrays the rotting of Denmark, through the decaying monarchs symbolic incest and its allusion to poison, to depict Claudius role in destroying Denmark.... Yet, the impact of this symbolic incest is far reaching as it poisons and affects the entire kingdom. This parallel between the situation of the monarchy and the state is depicted, by Shakespeare, when a Danish courier states that the cess of majesty dies not alone... His ability to summarize the range of human emotions in verses, from his plays, is the greatest reason for his popularity. Many of Shakespeare s plays have been acted towards audiences or filmed for viewers. The film Hamlet, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is a drama/thriller film. It was released December 25, 1996. It is the only non cut or shortened film version of the classic play updated to the 19th century. To summarize, the film is about a prince named Hamlet, son of the king of Denmark, who is traumatized by his father s murder. He is announced home for his father s funeral and his mother s wedding to his Uncle Claudius. Hamlet discovers that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, by examining the film Hamlet, it is clear that Kenneth Branagh kept his film in a similar fashion to the original play. Throughout the film, I noticed the remarkable acting. Back in the Shakespearean era, rehearsal time was limited. Because of this, actors would do cue acting . This is where a person would stand backstage and whisper the lines to the actor just before being said. In this case, cue acting was not needed. Each actor portrayed their character flawlessly. They showed emotion when needed, conformed their facial expressions when angry, sad, happy etc. and showed passion throughout. For example, each character got the opportunity to perform a monologue. Every individual nailed their facial expressions, emotions and the use of their body to tell the story. You could tell that before they stepped on screen their lines were practiced extensively. With the dedication and passion of each actor, Kenneth Branagh, was able to create the vison that he had in mind to recreate the play of Hamlet. The costume designers did an amazing job throughout the play representing the clothing during the Shakespearean era and reflected the person s social ladder in society. In other words, there were rules that controlled what you could and could not wear according to your social status. In the Hamlet film, the actors wore the clothing of the Shakespearean time. The recommendation is to have management develop and support a new policy that will improve network security and abide by current federal laws and regulations. The identified software vulnerability is that customers, clients and employees have the same network privilege with access through a corporate firewall, as in the case of the Chula Vista location, there is direct access to the internet over WAN without any policy restrictions. The recommendation is to install additional host based firewalls on all servers and user computers. In addition, remove the WAN connection at the Chula Vista location and route all network traffic through the corporate firewall. The Physical Effects Of Smoking On The Body It can be seen that the effects of smoking on your body can be very drastic, for example smoke in tobacco contains many dangerous chemicals such as Tar; Carbon monoxide; Hydrogen cyanide; Oxidizing chemicals; Metals and finally radioactive compounds known to be carcinogenic. The physical effects on the respiratory system, meaning that the system of organs in the body take control for the input of oxygen and the exhalation of smoking, this consist of irritation of the trachea (windpipe) and larynx (voice box), a reduced lung function and breathlessness due to swelling of the lungs, an impairment of the lungs clearance system which results to lung irritation and damage, an elevated risk of lung infections and permanent damage to the air sacs of the lungs. Moreover, the damage of the respiratory system can progress and effect the circulatory system. For example, there will be a raised blood pressure and heart rate which will exceedingly tighten the blood vessels in the skin eventually leading to the drop in skin temperature. As less oxygen is carried by the blood, the blood would be more prone to clotting. Emotionally, smoking can damage your immune system by causing infections such as pneumonia and influenza and more severely a longer lasting illness which can decrease the levels of protective antioxidants (such as vitamin c). Family is a term that has changed over time; as a result the traditional definition of family is inadequate, and limited to describe the modern version of the term. Our society tends to attach itself to the traditional conceptualization of family better know as a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological offspring (Kompara). In America, known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many implications for the word family thus there is no such thing as a traditional family. The traditional definition, which is limited parents and their children, can no longer be used to describe an American family because of our diverse and changing familial structures. The word family dates back to the 13th century and is derived from Old French word famelie ( Family ). The word originally defined the relationship of group of people living under the same roof, household [including servants] (1337), group of people related by blood, lineage (1442 4), a group of people who share a common philosophy (1658) ( Family ). • 27. Economic And Social Decay Of Detroit Answer to question 1: As given, it is well known that Detroit has gone through decades of economic and social decay and has one of the highest crime rates in the country. Meanwhile, Boston is home to some of the top universities and medical schools in the world and has one of the lowest crime rates. In order to investigate the above information, three socio economic characteristics have been chosen here. They are median household income, per capita income and individual below poverty line. When it comes, to assess the median household income, it is noted that median household income indicates the average level of income per household. This also explores that there are equal number of households that stay above this line and equal number of households that stay below this line. As shown in the appendices, the median household income for Boston remains far above that in Detroit. Therefore, it can be said that people that stay in Detroit are comparatively poorer, which enhance the crime rate. Again, per capita income of individuals can be defined as the total income of the city divided by its population. Therefore, a low per capita income indicates that there are either low income level or the volume of population is high. Now, both the low income level as well as high population directly related with crime rate. This is the reason, why in Detroit, the crime rate is comparatively higher than in Boston. Stewart, Sims Manz (1999) stated, For a team to succeed, team members need to effectively communicate with one another (p. 79). Once the team has achieved open communication the team members will be more willing to encourage each other, which will lead to more creativity and risk taking. This creativity will be achieved by trusting that the communication will be heard, discussed and tried if it will help the team reach its goals. Temme and Katzel (1995) wrote that risk taking plays a major role in the creative process. Trust and open communication will lead to brainstorming and sharing of ideas between the team members. Therefore, team members must try new things to see if the ideas presented will benefit the ultimate outcome and help achieve the final goal. Eventually every team will have a conflict. Since conflict is inevitable, effective communication is vital for the team success. The team needs to figure out what the conflict is, what needs to be done to get the team going again, what the options are and how they will solve the conflict in a way that is beneficial to the team (University of Phoenix, 2004). Without effective communication, this process of conflict resolution would fail. The team members would not be willing to share their point of view, teamwork would stall, and the conflict would escalate. The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information (Overview, EEOC, 2014). These federal laws include Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended in 1972, 1978, and 1991, along with the Equal Pay Act (EPA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). Most employers with at least 15 employees are covered by EEOC laws. I have thoroughly enjoyed thinking about the interrelationship of reason, experience, and scripture. Foremost, the relationship of reason and experience has proved highly. Understanding the ways in which reason and experience relate to each other is a tricky concept indeed and it is one that I look to in order to discern the process of learning in general. It is this process that allows learning to occur. Also, this process must begin at some point. Any further questions about reality itself do not effect us and, therefore, are meaningless to us. Additionally, the realization of an overly pragmatic theology found in chapter nineteen proved interesting; especially in consideration of Wesley s Experiential Theology. We mustn t become overly skeptical in our beliefs if we wish to discover as many new ideas that we possibly can. In this case, the best option would be the option that does not rule out an option unless logical necessity urges otherwise. We must remain consistent in our analysis of the hermeneutical spiral if we wish to continue through it in an appropriate, reasonable way. This sort of idea holds true for any hermeneutical process, but it is especially significant in the method that Wesley offers because of its reliance on correct understanding for scriptural, and then experiential, interpretation. Improper interpretation can lead to drastically false beliefs if carried on for too long. Correspondingly, we must apply the most accurate and consistent experience in order to receive the results that more accurately point towards truth in Wesley s system. • 39. The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the midst of the anti vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse in the nineteenth century. • 43. Character Development Of Hamlet Hamlet s character drastically develops over the first four acts of Hamlet, and his character development is most evident through the soliloquys he delivers throughout the play. The most character development can be seen from the first soliloquy, to the second, the third, the sixth, and the seventh and final soliloquy. Hamlets inner conflict with his thoughts and his actions are well analyzed in his soliloquys, as well as his struggles with life and death, and his very own existence. He begins the play wondering what purpose he has in life now that his father is dead and his mother has remarried to his uncle. After finding out foul play was involved in his father s death, he is motivated by revenge. Finally, he wonders how he can enact his revenge while continuously overthinking and overanalyzing his actions. In Act I, scene II, Hamlet delivers his first soliloquy after his mother and new step dad/uncle Claudius try to convince him to get over the death of his father, and to accept their rather hasty marriage. In his first soliloquy, Hamlet questions whether or not he should kill himself, and curses God for making suicide a sin. Hamlet is also fixated on his mother s rushed marriage to his uncle, not even a month after his father s death. Hamlet says, A little month, or ere those shoes were old/with which she followed my poor father s body (Lines 146 147). He is very hooked on the fact that his mother wore the same shoes to her wedding as she did to her husband s funeral, not even having time in between to break the shoes in. Hamlet wishes he could say whatever he wants and express his disgust about his mother s marriage and his hatred for his uncle, but since his uncle is the reigning King of Denmark, he has to hold his tongue and show respect for the king. This first soliloquy introduces the reader to Hamlet s indecisiveness and over analytical mindset. Hamlet is confronted by the ghostly figure of his father in Act I, scene V. Hamlet s father informs him that he had been murdered by Claudius. King Hamlet tells his son to avenge his death, but doesn t specify how. King Hamlet also tells Hamlet to leave his mother out of the revenge plot, as King Hamlet believes Claudius seduced Queen Gertrude. King ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the dialogue between Wild Bob and Billy it is important to note the act of turn taking. As Billy withholds participation, Bob is forced to speak again, meaning that turn taking is not fulfilled here. This gives the impression that Billy is a weak character who isn t really aware of the situation and appears to have little knowledge about the topic. Billy couldn t remember the outfit he was from (Vonnegut 1969: 55). As Bob speaks for longer, and has a lot more turns in the conversation than Billy it shows that he in charge of the soldiers and his status is evident through this conversation. He also controls the topic of the conversation. Again, this displays that despite his physical and mental health he is still a strong, sure and higher status soldier than Billy and it is evident that Billy recognises this. A lot of research has been done on it and there are many things that still remain a mystery. The mind gives us the capability to think and act; without it we would not be able to function. The mind is so advanced that it can rewire itself and adapt to new situations. This paper will explore and discuss the film Girl Interrupted (1996) by exploring the psychological disorder of depression. Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest (mayoclinic.org). When discussing depression, Patty from Girl Interrupted will be mentioned, the way society deals with depression will be discussed, and treatments for the psychological disorder will also be given. Depression is very common among the population and it does not discriminate against gender or ethnicity. There are many theories to why depression arises: faulty mood regulation by the brain, genetic vulnerability, stressful life events, medications, and medical problems health.Harvard.edu). Chemicals in the brain are also responsible for causing depression. One can have too much of one chemical and not enough of the other which causes an unbalance in the brain. Interview With A Graphic Designer I have chosen these questions to ask my Interviewee Neville Brody who is a very famous Graphic Designer who is well respected in his field and internationally known because I feel it is very important to understand the thought process that goes into designing some of the worlds best pieces of work ever created. I would like first hand knowledge coming from Brody himself and not any online articles or journals that I might have read up on. The thought process of design thinking is a very independent thing, you can only learn by repeatedly attempting day after day of new methods of research and how you apply them to your idea. I feel that a lot of people such as fresh students who seek guidance, also young graduates and even sometimes professional graphic designers who have been seen as an expert in their field lack the knowledge of understanding a great design thinking strategy or need aide in this domain. Design thinking is all about the design specific skills that a designer applies during the process of designing, not specifically needing to be a graphic designer as this thought process can be applied to a lot of people in the creative industries such as interior and exterior designers, game designers and even architects.
