Marilyn Monroe Impact
For this paper I decided to research Marilyn Monroe. To help me better understand Marilyn
Monroe, I first asked the question of how did she impact America and how and why did she
become so famous. To find these answers, I researched credible sources and took time to watch
videos to help gain a better understanding of Marilyn Monroe. When looking at many different
websites, I concluded that these different websites had the same answers to my questions. These
websites explained her life is great detail and informed me on the many major life events that took
place. When watching some videos over Marilyn, it helped me get an overall feel of what her
character, which helped me in writing my paper. Throughout this research, I realized... Show more

Later she was baptized and given the name Norma Jeane Baker after her mother. Shortly after
Marilyn was born, her mother, Gladys (Monroe) Baker Mortenson, was put in the hospital with
what most doctors would call paranoid schizophrenic. Along with her mother, her grandfather
had died when, Gladys Monroe (Marilyn s mother) was just seven years of age and when
Marilyn was only a year old. With her mother not being able to take care of her and not trace of
her father, she was quickly put into the foster care system. Marilyn was shunted from many
different homes where she was abused by one of the foster fathers. Those foster parents were
named Albert and Ida Bolender. Since Marilyn was thrown into many different
homes after that, she was never able to be in a home where she was truly able to feel as loved as a
child should. Many people would call her a mistake and say that she did not belong. Till
Marilyn was about seven years of age, she was tossed around different foster care homes and
orphanages. When Marilyn was sixteen, her foster family that she had been living with, had made
the decision to move away. To avoid going back into foster care Marilyn choose to get married to
a man that had been her neighbor, named James Dougherty. She became a housewife, but she found
that she was not happy and became very bored with life when her husband joined the Merchant
Marines in 1943 (Marilyn Monroe Biography).

Taking a Closer Look at The Cambodian Genocide Essay
To spare you is no profit, to destroy you is no loss. Pol Pot, the leader of the Khmer Rouge, once
said this truly horrifying statement (Cambodian Genocide 1). It is no wonder that he went on to
orchestrate the killings of more than two million innocent Cambodians. At the time of the mass
killings in Cambodia, the Vietnam War was raging on. It is possible that the Vietnam War masked
the true horrors of what was happening in Cambodia. The terrible events left emotional scars and
traumatized countless people. In the 1960 s a group named the Khmer Rougesurfaced, but was with
few members. They were led by Pol Pot, a man who would soon bring terror to all Cambodians.
Their goal was to bring Cambodia into a primal state, where everyone... Show more content on

In total, over two million people died and many suffered from psychological illnesses (Walker 1).
The events that happened in Cambodia showed every sign of being genocide. Mass killings took
place, emotional scars were left, and cruel treatment was inflicted.
This issue is genocide because of the mass killings that occurred. The Khmer Rouge was brutal
and killed anybody that they thought couldn t work or was in opposition to their ideals. Cambodia
lost 25% of its population, with over two millions killed. When more than two million innocent
people are killed, it is hard, if not impossible to call what happened in Cambodia, not Genocide.
Many people witnessed the deaths of their family and friends, leaving them with nightmares and
emotional scars (Carney 1).
Another strong argument that helps prove what happened in Cambodia was genocide was the
terrible treatment that the people were forced to endure every day. The Khmer Rouge was
relentless with what they did. They weren t afraid to kill someone, nor did they think twice about
it. Just the ruthlessness alone, can prove that this was genocide. The Khmer Rouge was brutal and
unforgiving; forcing people to work in terrible conditions and perform treacherous labor. The
Khmer Rouge would kill anyone who opposed this work. Due to the horrible conditions the people
worked in and the ruthless killings, the fields in which the people worked were called the

The Use Of Silicone Products For Breast Implants
Background
Biomaterials, whether from natural or synthetic origin, have been used for many biomedical
applications ranging from surgery to drug delivery (1). Of particular interest is the use of silicone
products for breast implants, which are medical prostheses serving to augment or reconstruct
breasts (1). To date, siliconeis one of the most commonly used materials for plastic surgery
procedures in North America (1, 2). The first silicone breast implants were developed in 1961
and were available for use by 1962. At that time, there was limited awareness on the safety and
efficacy of silicone in breast implants, but this view changed when attention was drawn to
repeated reports involving adverse reactions after implantation (1, 3 5). This led to a moratorium
on silicone breast implants in 1992 by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (5). After
extensive research, the majority of results concluded that there were no major harmful effects
associated with silicone products. In 2006, FDA approved the use of silicone products in breast
implants, which currently leaves silicone as the only available material for this purpose (3, 5, 6).
Since that time, there has been controversy around the nature and associated complications related
to silicone products in breast implants (1, 2, 5). This is reflected by the current body of literature,
and seems to result from a lack of consistency in the methodologies used to determine the
mechanisms underlying silicone transport, uptake,

American History: Our Hope for the Future As I peer out the bus window I am amazed by the

both the Pacific and Atlantic sides, connecting everything in a form of celebration. In the center,
water dances up into the sky and trickles back into the pool, ready to go again. Old Glory can be

help clean up the concentration camps and battlefields after the war had concluded. No wonder
he didn t want to talk about it. As I walk my way through the museum, I cannot bring myself to

On both sides of the walk are shoes of the murdered. I couldn t believe the sight, the smell, or the

Why Is Italian Immigration To The New World
Italian Immigration to the New World
Italians immigrated to the United States for many reasons. That could include being refugees,
gaining freedom, because of war, later on the great depression, ect. That all contributes in the
beginning of the 1800 s where the immigrants came by boat and was welcomed to the U.S. in Ellis
Island. Overall it is who made their journey here, where part of Italy are they coming from.
In the beginning of the 1900 s is when a majority of the Italians came over. The reason was
because of how they were being treated, disasters and much more. When they were welcome here
they were starting fresh and did not know what they were getting into. Although the boat was not as

ACTIVITY 1
What is Leadership?
Leadership may be considered as the process (act) of influencing the activities of an organized
group in its efforts toward goal setting and goal achievement. (Stogdill, 1950: 3)
Leaders set a direction for us all by giving a vision .leaders inspire and encourage. Without
leaderships a group of individuals would degenerates into argument and conflict, because we see
things in different ways and lean towards different solutions. Leadership helps to point us in the
same direction and harness our efforts jointly. (Mills, 2005)

Swimming South Documentary Review
Swimming South Documentary Review
Small, unnoticeable and lurking in the waters just off the coast of some of Queensland s most
popular beaches with the power to kill a person. Tracking further south than normal are the Irukandji
jellyfish, the focus of the 60 Minutes documentary Swimming South aired by Channel 9 on the
January 19th 2017. Through first hand sting victim stories and evidence of the jellyfish being found
further south, the documentary presents to the viewer the immense threat these lethal jellyfish
provide for beachgoers and tourism to east coast Queensland beaches.
Irukandji jellyfish are a clear, very small jellyfish with a maximum body size of only twenty five
millimetres. These jellyfish can unleash an extremely painful sting that without treatment, can kill a
person. The Irukandji have been found off the coast of northern ... Show more content on

By providing footage of victims during the time they are feeling the pain and other victims
recounting the pain they felt, it provokes a concern in the viewers for their safety in the water at
Queensland beaches as they do not want to be stung and suffer the severe pain other victim has.
This furthermore leads them to see the issue as a major problem due to their safety being at risk.
For the entirety of the documentary, Irukandji jellyfish are represented in a very negative manner.
Material excluded from the documentary includes whether there are any benefits of having the
Irukandji in the waters. These jellyfish may have a crucial role in keeping their aquatic ecosystem
functioning, however, any such positive purposes are excluded throughout the documentary as this
would weaken their intended negative representation of the animal. Any people who believe
Irukandji have any positive impact are silenced as this would also weaken the documentaries
negative perspective they are trying to convey to the

Logistics and Phyical Distribution
An organization focuses on many aspects and strategies that address customers needs and wants.
The organization develops a product that includes many steps such as, product life cycle, type of
brand, packaging and labeling, but the final step is how to have their product accessible to the
consumer, which is distribution. A distribution channel is the path where products, including their
ownership, flow from producer to consumer. There are many paths an organization can choose to
send their product. Physical distribution is the actual movement of products from a producer to
consumers. When an organization decides on what distribution channel to use, it creates the final
link in the supply chain. A supply chain is the complete order... Show more content on

Distribution costs and time is also another factor that the economy plays part it. Because of the
requirements of modern distribution, the issue of time is becoming increasingly important in the
management of commodity chains. Time is a major issue for freight shipping as it imposes
inventory holding and depreciation costs, which becomes sensitive for tightly integrated supply
chains (Dr. Jean Paul Rodrique and Dr. Markus Hesse, Logisticsand Freight Distribution, 12/30
/2007, http://people.hofstra.edu/geotrans/eng/ch5en/conc5en/cn5c4en.html, accessed on April 15,

While the costs of fuel increases, more and more logistic buyers are taking this opportunity to
negotiate and renegotiate lower base rate increases with carriers such as less than truckload

surcharges schedules and caps, expecting a longer term benefit if fuel prices continue to increase.
A Bears Stearns analysts quoted, We have heard from both shippers and carriers that the carriers
are having more difficulty passing through fuel costs as shippers are increasingly negotiating lower
surcharge schedules or capping their existing fuel surcharges, lowering overall pricing in both short
term and long term. While trucking rates continue to stay low as their demand is low, high fuel
prices and overcapacity remain big problems. With this in mind, many buyers are interested in other
options such as rail

Essay on The Gap Inc.
1. Analysis of the company s history, development and growth
Founded in 1969 by Donald Fisher and Doris Fisher, Gap Inc is largest clothing and accessories
retailer in America. The clothing store began in San Francisco California, where the Fishers opened
their first shop because they had been frustrated with the poor service and clothing styles offered at

Tax Reformation Common Ground
The tax policy in the United States is very confusing. When the tax policy was originally written
in 1913 it was four hundred pages. Now, over the past ninety one years, that tax policy has
evolved to over 72,000 pages. Since the tax code has become so lengthy and nearly impossible to
understand, the topic of taxreform has been in the minds of many. Although, most barely think
about tax reform until tax season. It is a controversial subject due to the impact a change in tax
code would have on the American people. The two most popular and widely known stakeholders in
this debate are the two major political parties in the United States, the Democrats and the
Republicans. The two parties share absolutely no common ground on the subject of... Show more

For example, if the tax rate is seven percent and one person makes one thousand dollars they would
pay seventy dollars to the government. While someone that only made one hundred dollars would
pay seven dollars to the government; this they may deem unfair.
The common ground the two parties would meet on would be a flat tax. So, any household that
is classified as on or below the poverty line will not be taxed whatsoever. Then the tax amount
for everyone else would be chosen based off of the governments projected spending amount for
that year, and incorporating the idea of reducing the deficit. It would take a lot of work to get
implemented, not only would the idea have to be adopted by both parties, it would have to be
supported by two of the three branches of government. The bill would begin in the House of
Representatives, after being passed there it would move to a vote with the Senate. If the bill
continues to be passed it will move to the executive branch where it can either be signed of
vetoed by the president, although a veto can be overridden with a two thirds vote from Congress.
Once it is passed the existing tax code would have to be completely thrown out and the flat tax
implemented. But this is not simply a month long process, the timeline for a flat tax to be
implemented would likely be about four years. It is a lengthy process, but one that is well worth
the wait.
While only economists can predict how a flat tax would impact

Theme Of Self Identity In The Bluest Eyes
A Search For A Self Finding a self identity is often a sign of maturing and growing up. This

Slippery Slope Analysis
1. After learning more about the story branding process, I strongly believe that people in
marketing and selling are just like people in other business. That is, in the beginning, they are
both taught the ethics of their chosen profession and given all the tools to go about conducting
business in a truthful and honorable way. Somewhere along the way greed can creep in and
cause those lessons to become less important and branding can slide further and further away
from the truth. In my youth group, we covered lessons on being a peacemaker and the slippery
slope on addressing conflict. The steps are similar to that addressed in the slippery slope fallacy

My Wicked Wicked Ways Poem
My Wicked Wicked Ways is a simple poem if you read it quickly, but after reading every stanza
and analyzing it you feel the complexity of it, every line of every stanza adds a different taste to
the poem, completes the painting, and with the last stanza the poet puts its magical touches to it. I
will start by identifying the subject of the poem, and then like every poem I will discuss the meter
of the poem, with the rhymeschemes and any figurative language if the poet used them.
The poem starts with This is my father (Cisneros 1) which shows the poets connection with her
father, her past, her childhood See? He is young (Cisneros 2), while reading this stanza, you start
to imagine the poet holding a small, old and non colored picture of her as a child, defining every
detail of her father s looks He looks like Errol Flynn (Cisneros 3), Errol Flynn was a handsome
actor, he was known as a womanizer, which is what she thinks her father was, in the picture her
father is wearing a hat, that leans over one of his eyes, a well suited suit, and some tow toned shoes.
Those shoes her mother doesn t like, my mother hates (Cisneros 11), the writer used the word hates,
which shows that there was an argument about the shoes but it wasn t a big argument to mention.
The second stanza, the poet moves to talking about her mother Here is my mother. (Cisneros 12),
but doesn t identify her looks, or her cloths, rather than describing her as she is not crying She is
not crying.

The Importance of Elections as a Linkage Institution and...
14 October 2012 American Politics Midterm Exam Question 3 The Importance of Elections as a
Linkage Institution and Voting Linkage institutions can be defined as institutions that connect
citizens with the government. Examples of linkage institutions include elections, political parties,
interest groups, and the media. Elections specifically are supposed to encourage public participation
in the selection of governmental officials. Unfortunately, low voter turnout has proved that
elections are an imperfect linkage institution. Elections depend on voters to be successful, and some
factors that relate to the likelihood of voting include age, education, and race. Although some

Even after the passing of the Fifteenth Amendment, African Americans were disenfranchised in the
South by intimidation and electoral trickery, including whites only primaries, rigged literacy tests,

harassment and imprisonment to encourage other African Americans to vote. Voter turnout in
African American communities is greatly encouraged. Personally, coming from an African
American family, I was strongly encouraged by my parents and grandparents to vote when I was of
legal age. My family instilled the importance of voting in me at a very young age. Although voter
turnout among African Americans is still fairly low, in the 2008 presidential election African
Americans had the second highest voter turnout, behind non Hispanic Caucasians (African
Americans, n.d.). Race can influence voter turnout because with African Americans specifically,
although rates are getting better, they are still not high. One factor that decreases voter turnout is
the misconception that a person s vote does not matter. Alienation is a feeling of personal
powerlessness that includes the feeling that the government does not care about individual people.
These people believe that the government will not respond to their concerns even if they do vote.
The problem is that a large portion of the population shares this attitude. People can have negative

Horror films
Movies have been growing increasingly more explicit for years. Horror films are no longer based
on a cleverly written script with lots of twists and turns, but rather how graphic and twisted the
images are throughout the movie. Horror films are appealing to viewers for various reasons. In
fact, according to some film critics, good horror films have particular characteristics. Maggie
McCutcheon in Too Disturbing, Too Shocking, According to Olson, people particularly enjoy

Poltergeist. Another characteristic of a horror film is Vitality or strength of source of horror.
Stanley J. Solomon in The Nightmare World claims If the depiction of archetypal fears is one
aspect of the genre, the process whereby these fears become dramatic incidents in a film reveals
at least two other genre traits: the degree of unpreparedness on the part of the endangered victim,
and the vitality or strength of the source of horror. The movie Poltergeist certainly has this
characteristic. Some examples are a normal looking neighborhood, Tweety dies , Steven has a

Authority
Authority is the power an organization gives to a supervisor to do something or to get something
done. There are two types of authority: formal and informal. Formal authority comes with the
position a person holds in the organization. Informal authority, also referred to as personal authority,
is the power you have because of your abilities and personal traits. In my opinion, authority is
means want to control something in your hand. Formal authority means use law or rules to control
the store or public place. Informal authority means you want to control something by yourself,
nobody help you.

History And Struggles Of Puerto Rican People
I will bring awareness to the history and struggles of the Puerto Rican people. I will relate the
struggles of not being recognized in society, being discriminated against, and not being able to vote
unless living in the states despite the fact we are born United States citizens. These conditions are
identical to what Zinn states happened to slaves in his book, A People History of the United States.

40 years ago, and how it has influenced me today as a Puerto Rican women. Puerto Ricois a small
island in the Caribbean. It was first settled around 1000 A.D. by the Taino Indians and called
Borinquen. In 1493, Christopher Columbus claimed it for Spain but it wasn t until the arrival of
Juan Ponce de Leon in 1508 that Spain began to colonize and rule over the land and its native
people. The Taino Indians believed the Spanish colonizers had divine powers and to test their
theory they captured a Spaniard and drowned him. It is said that they watched him for several days
until they were sure he was dead. When they learned that the Spanish were mortal, they revolted
against them but with no success. As punishment, Ponce De Leon ordered 6,000 shot; survivors
fled the mountains or left the island. After being settled by Spain and being enslaved, the native
population was nearly wiped out by disease and war. The Spanish then began brining African slaves

The First Method Of Mindfulness Of The Body
The first method of mindfulness of the body is to disentangle the direct and immediate sensation in
the body from our mental processes and reactions to the sensation. We attempt to place the
sensation itself in the foreground and fully observe it, while allowing our likes and dislikes,
thoughts and fantasies, to be noticed and let go of.
Many times as we work on our minds and bodies, there can be quite a bit of sore muscles, being
tired, just hang in there These will fade away and you will be on cloud nine. There will be
sensations you may not like.....that, too will fade away. We are instead fully observing the nature
of the sensations at hand instead of fixating on whether they are good or bad, right or wrong unless

the sensation itself is contained. As s substitute, instead of transferring our attention we should

Researchers have recently begun to take an interest in healing benefits of mindfulness and yoga.
Research has indicated that there are many health benefits when applying mindfulness based
approaches to pain management, physical functioning, and the ability to cope with stresses in
everyday life.
We need to enable ourselves to understand how we can let go of stressful conditions by recognizing
and being mindful of them, Mindfulness Meditation is an effective technique for letting go of life s

transitioning the product towards the fall would increase the profit margin.
A second alternative could be to increase their advertising budget because it has been the only brand
within the charcoal industry that has been advertising. Their advertising budget is currently very
low so with an increase in spending it could definitely generate more attraction and promote
Kingsford charcoal as the better alternative.
Thirdly, option is to strategically adjust the prices of their products because consumers are often
very price sensitive. By doing so the company can either create more value that defines the quality
and quantity of the product.
Lastly, the company suggest to expand their current inventory through increasing production and

Abstract
Aerodynamics is known as the study of the different forces acting on an object and the resulting
motion of objects as they fly through the air. Today we know that aerodynamicsplays a major role
in many sports, such as tennis, soccer, hunting, and motor sports, we will investigate the effects of
aerodynamics on baseball.
The three main forces that act on a baseball in flight are the weight, drag, and lift. In an effort to
understand how a baseball changes direction we will discuss an additional force called the lift
coefficient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the drag, the amount of lift depends on several factors related to the barometric conditions
of the air and the shape of the object. Additionally the velocity of the object and its relationship
with the air plays a role as well. For a spinning ball, the speed of rotation affects the magnitude of
the aerodynamic force and the direction of the force is perpendicular to the axis of rotation.
The orientation of the axis of rotation or spin axis can be varied by the pitcher when the ball is
thrown. If the axis is vertical, the lift force is horizontal and the ball can be made to curve to one
side. If the axis is horizontal, the lift force is vertical and the ball can be made to dive or rise
depending on the direction of rotation.
A baseball in flight is neither smooth nor symmetric because of the stitches. So the center of
pressure for a baseball moves slightly about the center of the ball with time, depending on the
orientation of the stitches. The lift coefficient Cl for the baseball was finely determined by high
speed photography of the flight of a pitched ball in many laboratories.
The motion of the ball through the air depends on the relative strength and direction of the
forces. We will look at the pitching of a curve ball. The curve ball problem involves all three
forces with an additional force called the Magnus force. This force is a lift force generated from
the spinning of the baseball produces the side force that causes the ball to

Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Throughout the years technology has changed drastically, it started out small and then increased
little by little. Many cultures around the globe are influenced by technology. In every aspect of
technology, the world is influenced in superior and inferior ways which includes self driving and
the house featured in Ray Bradbury s short story ВЁThe VeldtВЁ.
Ray Bradbury s ВЁThe VeldtВЁ is about a family of four a mother, father, and their 2 kids. The
mom and dad decide to buy a house called the Happylife Home which comes with a nursery for
the children. This is not just an ordinary house, the Happylife Home is equipped with a feature that
does everything that is required by the family. Which includes cleaning, cooking, caring for their
children Peter and Wendy, dressing, and bathing the family. Throughout the lives of the children,
they use the nursery to escape reality. The children develop a sense of imagination within the
nursery which helps them take their mind off of things. Whenever the family is busy, this feature
serves a great deal of convenience for the family. Everyday tasks are less stressful and chaotic for

The Renaissance, Baroque, And Rococo Periods
Abstract
This essay looks at the time in history beginning in the 1400 s to the mid 1700 s which we identify
in art history as The Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods. Focusing on the influence new
scientific knowledge had in the art produced during this time with specific examples from each
period and artists of the time.
Keywords: Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Art, History, Science, Knowledge The Renaissance
Beginning with the Renaissance (1400 1600) we see a change in the subject matter being portrayed
by artists of the time. We can attribute this change not only to the change in patrons, from the
Christian church to wealthy bankers and politicians, but also to the growing body of scientific
knowledge. The Renaissance was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

misleading but appropriate for a time in which men were beginning to question the divine and
finding answers in the natural world where science and mathematical solutions were starting to
make sense of everything around us.
Baroque
It is hard to believe that what began during the Renaissance would be followed by what we refer
to as the Baroque period beginning in the 1600 s and later the Rococo. The term Baroque was
first used in the eighteenth century by critics in a negative way. To the eyes of these critics, who
favored the restraint and order of Neoclassicism, the works of Bernini, Borromini, and Pietro da
Cortona appeared bizarre, absurd, even diseased in other words, misshapen, like an imperfect pearl
(Camara, E., n.d. para. 12). Stylistic style differs in the Baroque period with the use of interrupted
contours, dynamism, and instability. In addition, artists were moving toward a more realistic
subject matter and not the idealized portrayals we saw in the Renaissance period.
I see this very much in Zurbaran s paintings of Saint Francis, where the use of chiaroscuro gives it
a dramatic effect but not an idealized or unrealistic feel. However, in keeping with the focus of this
essay which is the influence new scientific knowledge had in the arts we

Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence
Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence
Neurological Development
According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for
brain development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after
conception (Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes,
breathing, and heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just
happen without thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which
connects the cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is
where complex processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the
cerebral cortex, this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated
activities, such as planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016).
The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal
lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge
of vision. The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure
and pain (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills,
social understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016).
The frontal lobe is

The Art Of Athena Parthenos
In Ancient Greece, the culture and values have been developed over time through tales and
artwork. A considerable amount of such works have been marble sculptures of various people and
gods. Many of the most famous and valuable sculptures depict a common attribute in ancient poetry,
youth or the importance of the body. A vast majority of characters in ancient stories have been that
of a youthful and intensely patriotic hero. Strength in youth and form are quite common in the
characteristics of these ancient heroes. People in the ancient world have been represented through
the power and youth within their story and appearance and reflected upon in the sculptures of this
time.
One of the most valued pieces of art in the ancient Greek world is that of Athena Parthenos. The
original statue was designed and sculpted by Phidias and placed in the parthenon in 438 B.C. The
original chryselephantine statue was almost 40ft tall and was made out of ivory with gilded
features. The sculpture stands tall, while wearing a tunic, an aegis, and helmet, while holding the
god of victory, Nike, in her right hand and holding a spear in her left hand. There have been many
replications of this statue, including one created during the Roman Period in the 2nd or 3rd
century A.D. sculpted from stone and bronze. Details include a helmet with pegasoi on each side
with the remains of a sphinx in the center. Athena s hair falls in curls down her shoulders and
snakes encircle her waist and tie in the

For many, abandoned buildings hold keys to the past. They are places frozen in time authentic,
eerie, and intriguing all in the same. Photographer and mixed media artist Samuel Quinn is one

catching abandoned white house that stood lifeless in between two simple suburban homes. Two

A closed door with its decorated frame stands next to it. Quinn uses photo manipulation to project
a slide of one of the pictures left in the home. It is a vacation photo taken by a family who once
lived in the house. In it, we see a lake with a reflection traveling towards brownish black
mountains topped with snow. Much of the wedding dress and the door are transparent, allowing
the whole vacation photo to be visible. An antique light fixture accompanies a wide open
doorway on the right wall. The picture plane is confined to a relatively small space. It is mostly
made up of straight lines, the majority of them being vertical or horizontal. The lines of the stair
railing and the right and left walls create a directional force traveling from the foreground to the
background. While observing the print, viewers will be able to notice a pattern of rectangles
repeating throughout the image. There appears to be a monochromatic color scheme, based on the
distribution of varying shades of white, along with the brown railing, ceiling wood, and stain in the
lower corner of the right wall. This could also be considered a neutral color scheme.
In Untitled 5 , viewers see the interior corner of a room on the upper floor of the abandoned house.
As with all of his photographs, Quinn staged this scene. He discovered three wooden picture
frames lying on the floor and positioned them on the adjacent green walls that face the viewers.

The Mausoleum Of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi
The mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi is one of the world s most precious cultural

the terracotta warriors, how they were discovered, made and giving you an insight into their
physical characteristics, and lastly, what other items were buried in the tomb with the warriors.

How Technology Is The New Reality All Around The World
Future of IoT
IoT is quickly becoming the new reality all around the world. The creation of IoT devices are
expected to triple in the next few years (Rossolillo 2016). The IoT appliances include everything
from autonomous cars to smart tattoos. As the gadgets change the technology and platforms used

The United States has Changed from a Melting Pot to a Vast Culture with Varying Racial
Backgrounds
The United States, created by blending or melting many cultures together into one common man,
known as an American. Modern communication and transportation accelerate mass migrations from
one continent . . . to the United States (Schlesinger 21). Ethnic and racial diversity was bound to
happen in the American society. As immigration began to explode, . . . a cult of ethnicity erupted
both between non Anglo whites and among nonwhite minorities. (22). Until recently, the only
country who has made a multiethnic society work, was the United States. Hector St. John de

The increasing accommodations directed toward immigrant culture worries many Americans.
Americans fear the special treatment granted to immigrants will affect the unifying force of the
country. Today, the trend is toward multiculturalism, diversity and adapting the newcomer, rather
than on the newcomer adapting himself or herself to a diverse society (61). Many Americans
believe the nation has lost control of its boundaries. Concerned if immigration continues, the
U.S. economy will suffer, and that employment will be scarce. Immigrants are flooding the
welfare rolls and are heavily involved in crime. (Morganthau 18). The increase number of U.S.
immigrants does affect the number of jobs available. The problem is, immigrants are either
highly qualified (take American jobs) or are less than skilled in any field (increase welfare). The
view on immigration today is one of a drag on the economy, instead of a lift (18). In 1995, new
immigration laws transfigure the American society. As a result, races group together to defend their
customs. The current immigration problem also increases the racial tension facing America today.
One result of racism in the United States is hate groups and gangs. Both have only one thing in

Americans and Hispanics, . . . many whom are ethnically white implies that these

The Myall Creek Massacre During Colonial Australia
The Myall Creek Massacre in Colonial Australia was caused by arising conflict from British
imperialism as the greed for land and goods caused the English to disregard the rights of the
Australian natives. In pursuit of resources and Newmarket s, Britain colonised the majority of the
world and the ramifications of this have continued into today. Firstly, upon colonising the land,
settlers were continuing to ship convicts to Australia, due to America refusing the convicts after the
War of Independence. The tensions that arose as a result of British colonisation culminated several
episodes of conflict such as the Myall Creek Massacre. This event occurred as the result of

The convicts did not follow this conduct and most believed that the Australian natives were
barely human (MacDougall .A.K 2004). The population ratio of British settlers in Australia to
the natives, drastically altered over the century in the result of rapid colonisation and the
conflicts which the Commonwealth of Australia Official Year Books explicitly depicts. The
British settlers came in masses bringing a new society and culture to the land. The indigenous
people were not familiar with an individual possession society and believed that the stock on the
land was to be hunted and used as a food source. This is epitomised in a letter sent to the editor of
The Sydney Monitor and Commercial Advertiser by Daniel Eaton in 1838, stating that five
horses [were] killed, and four others were wounded... a hundred head of cattle killed and the
flocks and herds were driven away in all directions by the blacks (Convict Creations, 2013).
Newspapers from the time showed that the British reacted to the natives by killing them off the

Disability In Canada
.7% individuals had severe issues. Several institutions including the federal government have
struggled to include the disabled in events and other societal norms, but this is in vain. The
participation comes in majorly about job acquisition and retention within working environments. A
close range of discrimination may have been covered up but Canada being a busy and industrious
state would thus require the ANY TOPIC (WRITER S CHOICE)6 participation of these people.
Within a short run, the retention may be said to be easy and tolerable, but as time moves by, the
managers of institutions tend to tire retaining these persons. Canada is said to be a nation that
strives to engage persons with disabilities in job networking cartels. Nonetheless, the failure to give
consideration to the disabled individuals may be seen through the continuous full time working
which many disabled persons may not meet. The introduction of well paying part time jobs would
have been quite a thoughtful implementation as the disabled going through medication would have
a free time of their own. Studies also reveal that between years 2001 to 2006 a robust growth was
witnessed within the economic sector. This, therefore, reduced the unemployment rate of the
Canadians disabled persons to 13.2%. However, first time access to the job may have been quite
difficult together with the retention rate. From 2007 onwards, the career outcome may... Show more

This is owing to the nature in which these students have to struggle to cope with the rest of the
student s fraternity. In the recent past, just before 1970, the disabled in Canada were all viewed as
a burden to the society. It is only until the veterans went fighting in wars and came back
handicapped that the rules changed, and the introduction of rights for the disabled began. This

The output of payroll professionals (paying the right people the right amount at the right time) is,
however, very much valued.
It is, therefore, essential in the interests of all stakeholders, and primarily of CIPP members
themselves, that the standards of performance expected of members should be clearly stated in a
Competence Framework and that they are understood by all concerned.
Payroll and the World of Work
Payroll is central to many activities in business and working life. The integrity of the payroll
function, in its widest sense, is essential if business and government is to operate properly. That
integrity is largely in the hands of the payroll profession.
The payroll profession s public includes taxpayers, direct outsourced clients, employers, employees,
local and national government, and those within the business and public sector communities who
rely on the independence and integrity of payroll information for:
Supporting transparent remuneration policies and practice;
Ensuring cost efficient and financially effective use of human resources;
Demonstrating sound internal financial control within organisations;
Supporting confidence in the application of the UK tax system;
Assisting in sound management decision making by ensuring the availability of timely and accurate

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Problem Solving
Various types of problems are evident. They have been classified as generic or specific for a task,
well structured to ill structured, diagnostic or remedial. (De Mast and Lokkerbol, 2012). In order
to ensure solved problems do not resurface, scientific methods of problem solving needs to be used.
Literature review suggest that scientific problem solving has been addressed by three schools of
thought namely Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing/ Lean Enterprise and World Class Manufacturing
Practices. These theories have evolved over time with the empirical evidence and new knowledge
uncovered.
2.1 Six Sigma
The origin of six sigma comes from statistics and statisticians. (Hahn et al., 1999), (Hoerl and Snee,
2002), and (Montgomery, 2001) The term six sigma is defined ... Show more content on

The challenge of having quality data available, and solutions driven by the data are expensive and
only a small part of the solution is implemented at the end.
It is a subjective judgement, where a defect may be defined as anything which does not meet
customer needs or expectations. The calculation of defect rates for non normal situations is yet to
be addressed. The start up cost for six sigma into a corporate culture (training, consulting,
improvement implementation; and software) can be asignificant investment (Karbasian et al., 2006).
Committed leadership of top management and fully fledged training are crucial to the success of
Six Sigma implementation. Human resource functions need good harmonization with Six Sigma
approach(Tjahjono, B. et al., 2010).The right selection and prioritization of projects is also a
critical success factor(Antony, J., 2004).
Evolution of theoretical and empirical knowledge redefines the theme of Six Sigma as a method of
improving product and process quality by understanding the relationships between the inputs and
the metrics that define the quality

  • 2. Marilyn Monroe Impact For this paper I decided to research Marilyn Monroe. To help me better understand Marilyn Monroe, I first asked the question of how did she impact America and how and why did she become so famous. To find these answers, I researched credible sources and took time to watch videos to help gain a better understanding of Marilyn Monroe. When looking at many different websites, I concluded that these different websites had the same answers to my questions. These websites explained her life is great detail and informed me on the many major life events that took place. When watching some videos over Marilyn, it helped me get an overall feel of what her character, which helped me in writing my paper. Throughout this research, I realized... Shortly after Marilyn was born, her mother, Gladys (Monroe) Baker Mortenson, was put in the hospital with what most doctors would call paranoid schizophrenic. Along with her mother, her grandfather had died when, Gladys Monroe (Marilyn s mother) was just seven years of age and when Marilyn was only a year old. With her mother not being able to take care of her and not trace of her father, she was quickly put into the foster care system. Marilyn was shunted from many different homes where she was abused by one of the foster fathers. Those foster parents were named Albert and Ida Bolender. Since Marilyn was thrown into many different homes after that, she was never able to be in a home where she was truly able to feel as loved as a child should. Many people would call her a mistake and say that she did not belong. Till Marilyn was about seven years of age, she was tossed around different foster care homes and orphanages. When Marilyn was sixteen, her foster family that she had been living with, had made the decision to move away. To avoid going back into foster care Marilyn choose to get married to a man that had been her neighbor, named James Dougherty. She became a housewife, but she found that she was not happy and became very bored with life when her husband joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 (Marilyn Monroe Biography). Marilyn ... • 3. Taking a Closer Look at The Cambodian Genocide Essay To spare you is no profit, to destroy you is no loss. Pol Pot, the leader of the Khmer Rouge, once said this truly horrifying statement (Cambodian Genocide 1). It is no wonder that he went on to orchestrate the killings of more than two million innocent Cambodians. At the time of the mass killings in Cambodia, the Vietnam War was raging on. It is possible that the Vietnam War masked the true horrors of what was happening in Cambodia. The terrible events left emotional scars and traumatized countless people. In the 1960 s a group named the Khmer Rougesurfaced, but was with few members. They were led by Pol Pot, a man who would soon bring terror to all Cambodians. Their goal was to bring Cambodia into a primal state, where everyone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In total, over two million people died and many suffered from psychological illnesses (Walker 1). The events that happened in Cambodia showed every sign of being genocide. Mass killings took place, emotional scars were left, and cruel treatment was inflicted. This issue is genocide because of the mass killings that occurred. The Khmer Rouge was brutal and killed anybody that they thought couldn t work or was in opposition to their ideals. Cambodia lost 25% of its population, with over two millions killed. When more than two million innocent people are killed, it is hard, if not impossible to call what happened in Cambodia, not Genocide. Many people witnessed the deaths of their family and friends, leaving them with nightmares and emotional scars (Carney 1). Another strong argument that helps prove what happened in Cambodia was genocide was the terrible treatment that the people were forced to endure every day. The Khmer Rouge was relentless with what they did. They weren t afraid to kill someone, nor did they think twice about it. Just the ruthlessness alone, can prove that this was genocide. The Khmer Rouge was brutal and unforgiving; forcing people to work in terrible conditions and perform treacherous labor. The Khmer Rouge would kill anyone who opposed this work. Due to the horrible conditions the people worked in and the ruthless killings, the fields in which the people worked were called the Cambodian killing fields ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of particular interest is the use of silicone products for breast implants, which are medical prostheses serving to augment or reconstruct breasts (1). To date, siliconeis one of the most commonly used materials for plastic surgery procedures in North America (1, 2). The first silicone breast implants were developed in 1961 and were available for use by 1962. At that time, there was limited awareness on the safety and efficacy of silicone in breast implants, but this view changed when attention was drawn to repeated reports involving adverse reactions after implantation (1, 3 5). This led to a moratorium on silicone breast implants in 1992 by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (5). After extensive research, the majority of results concluded that there were no major harmful effects associated with silicone products. In 2006, FDA approved the use of silicone products in breast implants, which currently leaves silicone as the only available material for this purpose (3, 5, 6). Since that time, there has been controversy around the nature and associated complications related to silicone products in breast implants (1, 2, 5). This is reflected by the current body of literature, and seems to result from a lack of consistency in the methodologies used to determine the mechanisms underlying silicone transport, uptake, ... So, any household that is classified as on or below the poverty line will not be taxed whatsoever. Then the tax amount for everyone else would be chosen based off of the governments projected spending amount for that year, and incorporating the idea of reducing the deficit. It would take a lot of work to get implemented, not only would the idea have to be adopted by both parties, it would have to be supported by two of the three branches of government. The bill would begin in the House of Representatives, after being passed there it would move to a vote with the Senate. If the bill continues to be passed it will move to the executive branch where it can either be signed of vetoed by the president, although a veto can be overridden with a two thirds vote from Congress. Once it is passed the existing tax code would have to be completely thrown out and the flat tax implemented. • 27. Aerodynamics of a Baseball Aerodynamics of a Baseball John Eggler Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Aerodynamics ASCI 309 Bryan E. Spears July 10, 2011 Abstract Aerodynamics is known as the study of the different forces acting on an object and the resulting motion of objects as they fly through the air. Today we know that aerodynamicsplays a major role in many sports, such as tennis, soccer, hunting, and motor sports, we will investigate the effects of aerodynamics on baseball. The three main forces that act on a baseball in flight are the weight, drag, and lift. In an effort to understand how a baseball changes direction we will discuss an additional force called the lift coefficient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like the drag, the amount of lift depends on several factors related to the barometric conditions of the air and the shape of the object. Additionally the velocity of the object and its relationship with the air plays a role as well. For a spinning ball, the speed of rotation affects the magnitude of the aerodynamic force and the direction of the force is perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The orientation of the axis of rotation or spin axis can be varied by the pitcher when the ball is thrown. If the axis is vertical, the lift force is horizontal and the ball can be made to curve to one side. If the axis is horizontal, the lift force is vertical and the ball can be made to dive or rise depending on the direction of rotation. A baseball in flight is neither smooth nor symmetric because of the stitches. So the center of pressure for a baseball moves slightly about the center of the ball with time, depending on the orientation of the stitches. The lift coefficient Cl for the baseball was finely determined by high speed photography of the flight of a pitched ball in many laboratories. The motion of the ball through the air depends on the relative strength and direction of the forces. We will look at the pitching of a curve ball. The curve ball problem involves all three forces with an additional force called the Magnus force. This force is a lift force generated from the spinning of the baseball produces the side force that causes the ball to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Renaissance, Baroque, And Rococo Periods Abstract This essay looks at the time in history beginning in the 1400 s to the mid 1700 s which we identify in art history as The Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods. Focusing on the influence new scientific knowledge had in the art produced during this time with specific examples from each period and artists of the time. Keywords: Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Art, History, Science, Knowledge The Renaissance Beginning with the Renaissance (1400 1600) we see a change in the subject matter being portrayed by artists of the time. We can attribute this change not only to the change in patrons, from the Christian church to wealthy bankers and politicians, but also to the growing body of scientific knowledge. I personally get a sense of perfection in a human world when I look at this painting, which is a bit misleading but appropriate for a time in which men were beginning to question the divine and finding answers in the natural world where science and mathematical solutions were starting to make sense of everything around us. Baroque It is hard to believe that what began during the Renaissance would be followed by what we refer to as the Baroque period beginning in the 1600 s and later the Rococo. The term Baroque was first used in the eighteenth century by critics in a negative way. To the eyes of these critics, who favored the restraint and order of Neoclassicism, the works of Bernini, Borromini, and Pietro da Cortona appeared bizarre, absurd, even diseased in other words, misshapen, like an imperfect pearl (Camara, E., n.d. para. 12). Stylistic style differs in the Baroque period with the use of interrupted contours, dynamism, and instability. In addition, artists were moving toward a more realistic subject matter and not the idealized portrayals we saw in the Renaissance period. I see this very much in Zurbaran s paintings of Saint Francis, where the use of chiaroscuro gives it a dramatic effect but not an idealized or unrealistic feel. • 30. Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence Neurological Development According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception (Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex, this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision. The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills, social understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The frontal lobe is ... A considerable amount of such works have been marble sculptures of various people and gods. Many of the most famous and valuable sculptures depict a common attribute in ancient poetry, youth or the importance of the body. A vast majority of characters in ancient stories have been that of a youthful and intensely patriotic hero. Strength in youth and form are quite common in the characteristics of these ancient heroes. People in the ancient world have been represented through the power and youth within their story and appearance and reflected upon in the sculptures of this time. One of the most valued pieces of art in the ancient Greek world is that of Athena Parthenos. The original statue was designed and sculpted by Phidias and placed in the parthenon in 438 B.C. The original chryselephantine statue was almost 40ft tall and was made out of ivory with gilded features. The sculpture stands tall, while wearing a tunic, an aegis, and helmet, while holding the god of victory, Nike, in her right hand and holding a spear in her left hand. There have been many replications of this statue, including one created during the Roman Period in the 2nd or 3rd century A.D. sculpted from stone and bronze. They are places frozen in time authentic, eerie, and intriguing all in the same. Photographer and mixed media artist Samuel Quinn is one willing to break laws and trespass property in order to explore and capture these deserted wonders. In 2008, while in the South Shore driving his friend home, Quinn passed an eye catching abandoned white house that stood lifeless in between two simple suburban homes. Much of the wedding dress and the door are transparent, allowing the whole vacation photo to be visible. An antique light fixture accompanies a wide open doorway on the right wall. The picture plane is confined to a relatively small space. It is mostly made up of straight lines, the majority of them being vertical or horizontal. The lines of the stair railing and the right and left walls create a directional force traveling from the foreground to the background. While observing the print, viewers will be able to notice a pattern of rectangles repeating throughout the image. There appears to be a monochromatic color scheme, based on the distribution of varying shades of white, along with the brown railing, ceiling wood, and stain in the lower corner of the right wall. This could also be considered a neutral color scheme. In Untitled 5 , viewers see the interior corner of a room on the upper floor of the abandoned house. As with all of his photographs, Quinn staged this scene. He discovered three wooden picture frames lying on the floor and positioned them on the adjacent green walls that face the viewers. ...
