Essay about John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln
John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. He served as President
when the country was under war. Abe Lincoln was born in 1806 and grew up in the countryside as a
pioneer. His mother died at a young age and he had a sister. His father married a widow that had three
children and Abe Lincoln liked her very much. Every day he attended school and worked very hard on
his father s farm.
John F. Kennedy was born in 1917 and died in 1963. John grew up in Massachusetts in a very wealthy
and politically powerful family. His father was ambassador for Great Britain and his mother was the
daughter to John F. Fitzgerald, who was a congressman and major of Boston. John Kennedy was ...

So Lincoln became the new candidate, and he pledged to stop anymore spread of slavery. The
Southern thought Lincoln would be the worst thing to ever happen to the U.S. and they viewed him as
a black republican . After the civil war another big issue was the Reconstruction. But he was
assassinated before he could put his plan into effect.
Lincoln s Vice President Andrew Johnson, he took over Lincoln s plan to reconstruct, but he changed
it a little. One difference was that he tried to take the voting privileges away from planters and wealthy
landowners of the South. But, however, the Southerners did like his policies, because he thought that
white men alone must manage the South. The South states agreed to Johnson s terms and they then set
up new governments and elected representatives to Congress. After the Freedman s Bureau and Civil
Rights act was passed, but Johnson vetoed them. But Congress cam back and overrode the presidents
vetoes and the also made the 14th amendment. Johnson was impeached shortly after because he
removed the Secretary of War and he can t do that.
Kennedy was the nominee for the Democratic party, who was running for President. Running against
him was Vice President, Richard M. Nixon, who was on the Republic party. NIxon hoped that
Eisenhower s popularity would help him in the running. But Kennedy won the election by less than
119,000 votes. Two main reasons why Kennedy won, was

A Literary Analysis Of The Jaunt By Stephen King
The Jaunt The jaunt by Stephen King is a science fiction short story. It was first published in The
Twilight Zone Magazine in 1981 . The story takes place early in the 24th century, when the
technology for teleportation, also called Jaunting is allowing for transportation across enormous
distances, even to other planets in the solar system, and that is what the Jaunt is about. The story
contains two parallel running storylines. One that is written in the present and one that is written in the
past. The first storyline is the father Mark Oates, who is telling his family a story about the Jaunt, and
how it was invented. This storyline is written in the present. The other storyline is where, we are
getting all the information s about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this text there is no Antagonist, because there is not any bad guy. The minor characters are Mark s
family. They are less important characters, but they still play an important part in the meaning of the
story. The text consists of a dialogue between Mark Oates and his two kids Ricky and Patricia. Mark is
telling them how the Jaunt is working. He is trying to explain, how the scientist Victor Carune
discovered, that you must be a sleep, when you are being transported, after he had tested it on mice. If
you are a wake, the jaunting will then feel longer than the 0,067 seconds, it normally takes, when you
are jaunting , but Mark forgot to tell, what s really going to happen to you. This dialogue is important
to understand to get the point of the story, because in most of the text Mark is speaking to his family.
Human VS Technology is the theme in the text. Mark s son Ricky was awake, when the family was
going through the Jaunt, which resulted in the fact that he got crazy and acted strange, like the mice
Victor Carune used to test the Jaunt with. Ricky wanted to see the travel to Mars, so he challenged the
technology, though he knew, it was dangerous and lost . Also because the whole story is about people
and technology, and if those two things are mixed, then incredible thinks can happen like the

Starbucks vs. Ethiopia (Csr Issue)
Issue Two: Starbucks vs. Ethiopia
In March 2005, Ethiopia filed applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to
trademark its coffee names, Harar, Sidamo, and Yirgacheffe, which are three coffee regions in the
country. The Ethiopian government had hoped that by forcing coffee buyers into licensing agreements
would lead to coffee farmers gaining more control over its coffee trade and earn a bigger slice of the
pie by receiving a higher percentage of earnings from the retail price of coffee. It is estimated that
Ethiopian farmers could earn up to USD 88 million extra per year.
Oxfam America had accused Starbucks of prompting the National Coffee Association of USA (NCA)
to oppose the trademark application which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Utilitarianism is an ethical doctrine which states that people should produce the most happiness or
pleasure for everyone who is affected by those actions. The utilitarian view of justice proposes an
economic system which will benefit the society than any other system. Besides, the proponents of this
view also hold the opinion that steps should be taken to reduce great income disparities that further
polarize our society. Hence it is suggested that an egalitarian allocation of income would increase the
income of people who earn less which would eventually boost total happiness (Shaw, 2005) The
underlying fact that coffee farmers only get 10% of the profit of each cup of coffee sold and millions
of Ethiopians who rely on coffee trade as a source of income and living under extreme poverty
suggests that Starbucks did not practice what they preach and should have taken a more holistic
approach in helping coffee farmers in Ethiopia earning a fairer share of income from the coffee trade.
Proponents of the broader view of corporate social responsibility stress that organizations are
integrated with the rest of the society and have a moral obligation to their stakeholders which include
employees, suppliers, customers, the community, and the society at large (Shaw, 2005). Besides,
proponents of human rights

Transgender People Face Harmful Discrimination
His mother holds up another dress, remarking on how cute it is and handing it to him to try on. She
ignores the uncomfortable look on his face and tells him to hurry up. He sits in the dressing room in
silence, looking at himself in the mirror, the dress hanging on a hook beside him. He furrows his
brows, covers his chest with his arms, and stares at the face looking back at him. It doesn t look right,
he thinks, trying not to cry. All his life he had been called she and girl and it never felt right. No one
told him it was okay to feel this way when he brought it up, instead yelling at him, telling him he was
just confused. It made him sick, pretending to be a girl, but no one listened or cared. Due to the many
misconceptions about them, transgender people face harmful discrimination, whether being told their
feelings are invalid, that there is no such thing, or being killed for who they are. Identifying as a
gender other than the one you are assigned at birth is seen as unnatural in a world ruled by a rigid
gender binary, so understanding transgender people s experiences is necessary for a safe life for them.
Some protections are already available to transgender people, though paltry: Only 15 [states] and the
District of Columbia have laws prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity/expression (
Knowledge Center ). Additionally, seven state governors have put orders into effect that ban the
discrimination of state workers on the basis of them being

Personal Narrative-Defining Moment
Ms. Napholz made us write these paragraphs on someone we have memories with. So, I decided to
chose you since we have so many awesome memories together. I know that you will think this is very
lame but I had to chose someone. Hopefully you will enjoy revisiting some of these moments we had
together.
About 5 years ago you were snowmobile racing, and you were doing super good until you crashed.
You were racing with Dalton. I remember it was very cold outside and it was in early January. It was
one of the last races of the night; you went off the edge of the track. The snowmobile went as high as
the light fixtures; it was terrifying. Everyone ran over to you to check and see if you were okay. The
medics arrived and took you in an ambulance to the nearest hospital. The doctors said that you had
broken 5 vertebrates and shattered your tailbone. You were on bed rest for many months but ended up
having a great recovery.
The first maybe 12 years of our lives together you were pretty mean to me. You would make wait 3
feet behind you for the bus, wait to get inside, push me in the snow, and overall just harass me. These
are just a few of the hundreds of ridiculous, cruel things I had to deal with. However, I believe this
made us closer. Now we get along great and I don t know where I would be without you. You ve made
me a stronger person and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the door handle and was trying to get in. We called our parents but they didn t answer. Eventually our

Divorce Mediation And A Divorce Mediator

The Role of a Divorce Mediator in Broadrun, VA
Although a judge and a divorce mediator in Broadrun, Virginia both have the ability to finalize a
divorce case, the way they do so is quite different. The role of a divorce mediator in Broadrun,
Virginia is more of a helping one. In contrast, the role of a judge is that of a decision maker. In most
instances, the parties are more satisfied with the results of their cases when they use a divorce
mediator, primarily because they are able to have a direct role in the negotiation of a settlement
agreement.
A divorce mediator assists the parties in a divorce case with creating a settlement agreement. To do so,
the divorce mediator will first meet with the parties to discuss their positions in the dispute. The
divorce mediator will next attempt to help the parties find common ground in their positions. Once the
parties have reached agreement on an issue, the mediator will make note of the agreement and move
on to the next contested issue. Issue by issue, the divorce mediator will discuss the case with the
parties and help them settle as many issues as possible.
Whereas a judge will make a decision for the parties, the mediator helps them make their own
decisions. In fact, a mediator has no decision making power during mediation. The fate of the case is
entirely in the hands of the parties.

Dragons Vs Dungeons
Zen, when one thinks of the ideas behind it, may not be the first word used to describe the game
Dungeons and Dragons, due to the fact that quite the opposite happens within the game in fights with
other players, bosses and creatures. Though with a look into some of the philosophical processes that
can be applied to the game similar to the ones that the narrator applies to his motorcycle maintenance
this word choice can be understood. With the use of the classic and romantic mode of thinking,
classification of components, and the explanation of a truth trap within the game; the players and
characters within the game get further explained as to why this game of destruction can be considered
a philosophical Zen. Dungeons and Dragons has two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A truth trap can explain this phenomenon in the game. Truth traps are concerned with the data that are
apprehended and are within the boxcars of the train (Prisig (ZMM), 410). The narrator speaks of truth
traps and the ability to understand data using a scientific method, though the issue of yes no questions
are brought up with a third option of mu which states neither yes or no. Dungeons and Dragons
requires the players to think critically about decisions being made and while this thinking is going on
questions are often asked to the other players and often to the Dungeon Master. Though in most
instances the Dungeon Master does not give simple yes or no replies to these questions it seems as if
he or she sticks with this mu to allow the group of players to figure it out for themselves. This is often
due to the fact that the Dungeon Master wants to see the way the players handle a situation for
possible character development or to make it more realistic as there is no person you can ask in the
real world to solve all of ones issues or to tell them what to do next, where to go to, etc. this would
make the Dungeon Masters actions similar to those explained by the narrator as Buddha s actions,
since if the Dungeon Master were to answer your question it could be incorrect due to the fact the
world within Dungeons and Dragons is what the players wish to make it not a straight forward way
where the players have to do very specific things in order to move on in a

The Irish Culture And The Person I Interviewed
Ireland is a country that is rich in culture, traditions, and faith. This country has struggled with over
time with famine, religious tension, and even freedom. Many individuals immigrated to America in
search of a better life. The person I chose to interview family came over to the United States when
Ireland was struggling with famine. They came over on a boat through New York and changed there
name to make it more American. For this paper I will further discuss the Irish culture and the person I
interviewed.
Description of the Person and Cultural Heritage
For a short time in Ireland many were faced with a hard decision due to the struggling with starvation
in a time of famine. With this hardship many made the difficult choice to leave their country and seek
refuge in the United States. The individual that I interview had family that lived in County Cork,
Ireland and they decided to make the journey to the United States in hopes of a better life. Her
Grandparents came to the United States through New York and changed their last name by dropping
the prefix to make it more American. They moved to Cleveland and her grandfather was able to find
work at chief Boyardee to support his family. Many traditions have been passed down from generation
to generation. Celebration St. Patrick s day was always an important day for this family. This was a
time to eat traditional Irish food, music, and Irish folk dancing. The catholic faith is very important

Acute Myeloid Leukemia
This year in the United States there will be an estimated 1,665,540 diagnosed cancer cases and
585,720 deaths due to the disease.1 Cancer ranks as the second most common cause of death in the
US only behind heart disease. As cancer accounts for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the United
States2, many people view the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence. This feeling of hopelessness
can lead patients to make questionable decisions regarding treatment options. While current advances
have led to increasingly positive prognoses for those diagnosed with differing forms of cancer, the
significant death rate among those same patients may deter cancer patients from seeking traditional
therapies and treatments. What people often times do not realize is that most of these alternative forms
of treatment that have not been proven to be effective may be more detrimental to patients health than
the actual cancer itself. In order to fully understand the effectiveness of the treatments that a patient is
going to receive, it is important to look not only the physiological effects of the treatments themselves,
but also the effects of the disease.
Each year in the United States roughly 2.4 per every 100,000 Americans under the age of 65 are
diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and 12.6 per 100,000 are diagnosed over the age of 65 10. Up
until the 1970s the five year survival rates for affected patients was less than 15 percent.

Alone Doesn t Mean Strong
Henrik Ibsen s quote ... the strongest man upon earth is he who stands most alone. Attempts to define
what takes to become the most powerful man. Unfortunately, the assumption is completely wrong. He
who stands most alone is not who is the strongest but the weakest. If you are alone, you cannot
influence others, and your initial drive will cease due to discouragement. A man who strongly believes
in an idea and convinces others of him being right is the strongest man upon earth. Because he does
not stand alone, he stands united.
In Grendel, by John Gardner, the protagonist conflicts with being alone which ultimately lead him to
his destruction. During the course of the story Grendel struggles to find ... Show more content on

The Traditional Change Model Consists Of Three Steps
1. The traditional change model consists of three steps: unfreezing, that is, recognizing the need for
change because of some event or threat, the actual change actions and refreezing, that is, incorporating
new ways of operating, and thinking into the everyday operations of the organization. Apply this
model to the situation at the Coca Cola Company at the point when the lawsuit was served in 1999.
As it is stated in the case of Coca Cola, it was a marketing machine ran by bureaucrats and
accountants focused more on getting the most out of what they had than of thinking of good ideas
(Harvey Allard, 2015, p. 100). At that stage, Ivestor, who was a CEO of the company, was focusing
more on the numbers and revenues than on what is really going inside of the company. He was
described as arrogant and insecure (Harvey Allard, 2015, p. 100) and refused to listen to his own
people, working for him. Instead of solving the real problems in the company, he was focusing on
keeping profits on the same level. Case gives an example of passivity of his actions by increasing the
price of Coke syrup sales to bottlers to keep it. Of course, it was a mandatory action due to the largest
product recall in company history (Harvey Allard, 2015, p. 100) but it only accumulated a racial
tension in the company, as he was indifferent to people and focused on financial results. Ivestor tried
to prevent dramatic outcomes of the lawsuit more than to solve the problem and prevent it in the

Next, I will explore the relationship between language and emotion. An example that I have noticed of
language controlling emotion is while learning Spanish. I have just begun to learn Spanish about five
months ago. One of the first things I learned in Spanish was that there are two different pronouns for
the word you. Firstly, there is the casual you, tú and the respectful you, usted . This is quite interesting
because it may be possible that using these two words when speaking with two different people might
affect our emotions toward them. For example, if I am speaking to someone on the football pitch and
refer to him or her as tú, I would feel more relaxed and even lack respect to him or her. On the other
hand, if I was speaking to my Spanish teacher I would refer to him as usted, and I would feel more
respectful toward him.
Another example of this that I being a speaker of both English and Hindi, have noticed is the word
sukhi , for which the closest English translation is peaceful . However, the most appropriate word for
peaceful in Hindi is shanti . Sukhi is being peaceful, but on a much larger scale something that cannot
be expressed accurately in English. Perhaps I am only hypothesizing, this is due to the fact that Indian
culture is generally more spiritual, and therefore they have a word for being completely at peace with
everything.

Renaissance Knights Research Paper
The knights were the warriors of the time period in between the fall of Rome and the beginning of the
Renaissance, also known as the Middle Ages. Knights had to undergo years of training starting as a
young boy. Though they were well trained, knights still needed protection. To protect themselves,
knights would wear complex armor that usually took over an hour to put on, and often needed the help
of his squire. In order to fight well, they needed strong weapons. A knight s weapons were sharp and
durable. In France, England, and Germany, knights defended their lords
Usually if a boy s father was a knight or was of a noble family, he would automatically become a
knight. Sometimes, if a man proved that he was good on the battlefield, he was pronounced a knight.
Young boys, usually age seven, were sent to castles or to wealthy people s houses. There, they would
start their training. The ranks of a knight in training showed how long he had been working towards
knighthood. The ranks are from least to greatest: page, squire, and knight. From age seven to fourteen,
the boys trained as medieval pages. From age fourteen to twenty one, they were squires. Squires were

Destriers were trained to follow the knight s commands via leg pressure because knights needed their
hands to hold shields and swords. Warhorses were trained to trample fallen enemies. Horses were also
trained to be able to kick and bite on the knight s command. Destriers also needed armor called
barding. His barding consisted of a crinet, chamfron, and a crupper. A crinet protects the horse s neck
and the chamfron is a face mask for the horse. The destrier s last piece of armor, the crupper protects
the hindquarters of the destrier. Destriers gave knights a height and speed advantage.

The company can trace its history to the Minneapolis Milling Company, an organization founded in
1856 by Illinois Congressman Robert Smith which leased power rights to mills operating along Saint
Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River. Cadwallader C. Washburn acquired the company shortly after
its founding and hired his brother, William D. Washburn to assist in the company s development. In
1866, the Washburns got into the business themselves, building the Washburn B Mill at the falls. At
the time, the building was considered to be so large and output so vast that it could not possibly

recognised as an ethnic group. An ethnic group is defined as a category of people who identify with
each other based on common language, ancestral, social, cultural, or national experiences (Bailey

minority group. This is despite the best efforts from the government funded non governmental

Pavee Lackeen is a 2005 documentary style film which captures young Traveller girl Winnie Maughan
over ten months as she lived in a roadside caravan with her mother and ten brothers in Dublin. The
living conditions of Winnie and her family are common throughout the Travelling community in
Ireland, as stated by Pavee Point (2016) that 800 Traveller families live on the side of the road with no
running water or sanitation . This film, in contrast to Into The West, which though accurate of its
representation of Travellers is a fiction film, not real world. Pavee Lackeen is a very real depiction of
how Irish Travellers live in society today. Winnie Maughan is not an actress, she was filmed in her
own home with no cinematic effects added to enhance or derail the experience of her surroundings.
The result is a real life illustration of the lives of Travellers in Ireland. The film portrays the poverty in
which Winnie and her family live, in a run down caravan dangerously close to a Dublin dual
carriageway. Just as in Into The West the lack of interest in school shown by children and parents alike
emphasizes the stereotype of Travellers but the fact that it is highlighted in the film that a large
number of schools refuse Traveller children, all the blame cannot rest with them. An issue which is
heavily evident and pressing is the lack of resources available to Winnie and her family by the Irish
government. The council cannot even provide housing with sufficient running water for the family.
Throughout research for this paper, it was continually argued by those who were against Irish
Travellers being recognized as an ethnic minority that Travellers are Irish so therefore cannot be an
Ethnic minority group in this country. There is a constant theme which cannot be missed in the film as
the people that Winnie comes into contact

A Report On Vehicle Communication Network
1. Introduction
Since the market demands get varied and segmented, automotive manufacturers have been focus on
improving users driving experience for a long period while developing advanced electronic based
technologies, with respect to requirements such as convenience, safety, fuel efficiency and etc.
However, with more functions achieved, a large quantity of wires individually connected to different
electronical control units needs to be conducted in order to transfer signals from sensors, thus making
the entire vehicle system significantly complex, heavy, costly and less reliable. This issue was
foreseen by engineers and could not be solved properly until the introduction of vehicle
communication network in which electronic control units interchanges information alone the bus with
much less wirings required.t Within the following sections, in order to ensure accuracy for final
investigation result, a Toyota Prius 2012 model are researched in terms of how information required is
processed by each control unit after being detected by those sensors related. Based upon investigation
mentioned, discussion on benefits of using in vehicle network will be further taken with respect to
weight and cost savings.

Evangelical And Neo-Orthodox Movements
The modern world saw three theological movements representing various view on the nature and
authority of the scriptures. The Liberal, Evangelical and Neo Orthodox movements all attempted to
define what was true in relations to God, Jesus, and the scriptures and how it should be applied to the
Christian s life. Each movement also had their own view on the history of the scriptures and Jesus
Christ.
Those supporting the Liberal theological movement felt the Church had been corrupted by
philosophical additions and sought to make Christianity relevant to the current times searching how to
bridge the gap between the first century and modern times. This movement also exhibited a shift on
their focus regarding religion from divine to more human. In the ... Show more content on

These individuals have been concerned with the truthfulness of the Scriptures and how to interpret
them. Evangelicals believed the Scriptures were the inspired and infallible Word of God but did not
deny it s human characteristic focusing on the humanity of scriptures. They also understood that this
can lead to misinterpretation of the scriptures and insisted that one must take into consideration the
language and time they were written in order to understand their message. Page 264
The Neo Orthodox movement believed that theology is not the study of human philosophy or religious
experiences but of God s word and authority of Christian theology is found in the Gospels. The
Scriptures are God speaking to man in Jesus and these are his personal revelations to us. Supporters of
this movement both accepted the Scriptures but also criticized them in ways such as questioning the
authorship of some books in the Bible. The Neo Orthodox movement also stressed that God s word is
not found in a static document to be dissected and analyzed but is active that control s one

The Word Plum Analysis
Plums are any of various trees and shrubs (genus Prunus) of the rose family with globular to oval
smooth skinned edible fruits that are drupes with oblong seeds (Merriam Webster). To a common
home owner, plums are merely household foods. However, to poets and imagists, plums become
euphemisms for intense ideas that vary in classical appeals from the ethos of damnation to pathos of
sex (Conrad). Two poems in particular This is Just to Say by William Carlos William and The Word
Plum , by Helen Chasin take something seemingly trivial like plums and connect to their reader with
respect to imagery, rhyme, meter, and theme. William Carlos William s word choice in This is Just to
Say is written in three stanzas, two sentences, and 28 words. Nonetheless, this simplicity does not stop
him from detailing a deliberate importance to the plums he is describing. Rather, Williams paints the
plums as delicious (Line 10), so sweet (Line 11), and so cold (Line 12) . He artistically showcases
them onto a canvas, appealing to his audience s own appetite. This is just to say how much can truly
be said about something in only a few statements. Like Williams, Helen Chasin centers her poem
around plums. She elegantly menus them not just as delicious (Line 1), but also as taut skin pierced,
bitten, provoked into juice, and tart flesh (Line 6 8). Only 11 lines, Chasin personifies the word plum
through several arrangements of alliteration and onomatopoeias, such as pout

Summary Of The Bird Lady
Joshua Samuel 7/31/14
The Bird Lady.
Old stuff aren t just said to be old, it s the new stuff that makes it old. Even to a girl in an orphanage
seeing new things make me feel young and happy. A white lotus might bring a smile on a poor man s
face and the world will seem to be in order. However, the main focus is on something that is old.
Never did I have an interest in something like this but because of an old lady, I do now.
The sun shined bright when I was walking on a sidewalk to a park. My normal routine and activities
laid aside as I held my half eaten sandwich and walked up the steps to the abandoned park. There was
a plastic playground and a sandbox that was full of sand as if not used. I shivered as the wind blew
and I saw a really big acorn tree. The grass was turning yellow and I looked past the tree to see the
pond. The pond was clear as I stood and saw my reflection. I crouched down and as usual, I took my
sandwich out and tore a piece and threw it in the water. In five minutes time, ducks started to appear
and eventually I ran out of food to give them. As I brushed my hands and stood up, I looked behind
me and there was a little boy behind me. At first the boy scared me because I thought it was an
oversized duck that didn t get his share of the sandwich but I felt nogalstic when he said something.
What are you doing? he asked innocently. I replied to him smiling, Feeding the ducks. He looked at
me again and said, Why?

Persuasive Essay On Religion
You might as well cut off your entire personality under the roof of religious parents, or at least learn to
pretend you are someone else in front of them. There is no having your own beliefs, being gay or
being with someone of another race. You learn to find excuses on why you haven t found yourself a
white, Christian man like I don t know mom, I guess God hasn t provided him for me yet, when really
the only guy you re looking for is in fact a woman. If you came out of the closet, of course, you can
bet God will strike you down with a bolt of lightning and your family will shun you. You also have to
be cautious of when you say you don t believe in God, because really you do, you ve just turned away
from him. You get to go to church a little more because your family thinks that Satan has gotten a hold
on you. What you need to do is wipe away any free will you think you have and get on your knees and
pray to God for redemption. Get use to the white walls around you because when they find out you
have a happy relationship with a black boy you will never see another room beside your own. I like to
call this one House Arrest.
That s where I m at now. No more phone, no more going outside, no more even walking to the bus
stop without my mom by my side. I d like to state for the record that I do not enjoy lying to my
parents. I wish that I could be open and honest with them, but their minds are set on two things; they
must be white and they must be Christian.

Compare and Contrast 2 Great Newspapers
Despite being printed for the same date, in this case January 30th, 2014, the distinction can still be
made, and by this it can be said that if the titles of the newspapers were removed it would not be hard
to distinguish one from the other. By placing the front page of the New York Times (NYT) and of the
Wall Street Journal (WSJ) side by side, the reader can piece together few similarities and a greater
amount of contrast between the two. These are especially true when looking at the stories that were
covered, the amount of space some stories took compared to others, and the slants many of the
headlines took. These were the headlines from that day. On the cover of the NYT: childhood obesity, a

Visually looking at the two different covers, the amount of space given to the 2 3 major stories was
about the same. In both, the biggest space was taken by the pictures. In the NYT, an image of stalled
cars on the highway in Atlanta took the biggest space and the next biggest was an image of two
children crying with a chard car behind them. In the WSJ, there was a collection of charts that
displayed data about the stock market and another of stranded people sleeping in a store in Atlanta.
Both of the newspaper share this trait, the most of space going to the pictures. Another similarity
would be that the written articles shared length, for example in the NYT the story of obesity and
Russian missile test were about the same and in the WSJ the articles of Reid and movie productions
were also about the same. The clear distinction comes with the content of the pictures and again it
revolves around the interests of organizations: money and social issues. One major difference and an
unexpected part was the ad for Oracle in the WSJ which took up as much space if not more than the
Reid commentary, the Russian test, or even the picture from the Atlanta crisis. The length of the
Google article was also distinct, where the NYT gave a full column, the WSJ gave it a small
paragraph. Another point to note is the display and position of the headlines or newsfeed. The WSJ
had two broad

Volunteering Rough Draft
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons
working together (Ryan). These words said by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, reflects the words my
parents would always say to me when I was little. I would donate old clothes that did not fit, or toys I
did not play with anymore. Every summer I would volunteer at my town s public library, as well as at
my church. However, as I got older, doing the simple tasks at the library felt tedious and uninteresting
so I stopped volunteering for a while. There were times when I had spare time that could have and
should have been put to use volunteering, but I did not have the motivation. However, after being
inducted into my High School s National Honors Society, I needed volunteer hours in order to remain
in it. This was the motivation I needed to begin volunteering again.
I decided to give back to one of my passions, hockey. The hockey community has always had
volunteer coaches come to help out at practices. In fact, the younger player always look up to the

The Gucci Mane Conspiracy
After his release from prison in 2016, the conspiracy that Gucci Mane is a clone rose due to leaving
his trap lifestyle behind, picking up a new, sophisticated lifestyle, and how he will not confirm nor
deny the allegations. To this day, there is still a lot of buzz in the air that the Gucci that was released in
2016 is not the same Gucci that was incarcerated in 2013.
Previous to his arrest, Gucci Mane became notorious for living and glamorizing the trap lifestyle, a
lifestyle heavily influenced by and involved with drugs. From songs like Breakfast (Trap God), a song
with lyrics I smoke weed for breakfast / I drink lean for breakfast / I take mollies, I take xannies, I can

After his release from Prison 3 years later, Gucci left behind his drug induced lifestyle and turned his
life around to better himself, his career, and the people around him. In Gucci s autobiography, he
describes how he changed for the better, I looked different from the man in my September mugshot.

My Father Lost My Life
In the Summer of 2012, my father lost his job. I was only 12, and I had little understanding as to why
my mother was so upset. My parents fought about my father s unemployment for days, leaving me
scared for the condition of my family. Eventually, my father went ahead and took out his life insurance
money, and I was left wondering why my father could not just find another job. Despite the fact that
my father had a side business, my family struggled. I watched as the food in my house diminished and
common necessities seemed to disappear. For each week in the month, my family only had fifty
dollars to spend on all the food we needed plus toiletries. Being that I was young, I had no
comprehension as to why I could not have the newest shoes or iPhone. I envied other kids that had a
kitchen filled with snacks and food, and as a result I tried to never be at home in my depressing
kitchen. To say the least, I was angry with the world. I felt outraged that I could not get simple things
such as a chocolate bar and I pondered on how I use to be able to pile stuff into a cart with no thought
about the bill that would be put on my father s bank account. I will admit, I was a spoiled child. I
could get away with buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff and feel no remorse for my spending,
but alas, the reality of the economy and my father s unemployment hit me. There was a sense of
hopelessness in my heart. I often wondered if my parents marriage would survive, if we would have to
skip a meal or two, if I would have enough money for school supplies, and if college would even be
an option for me. I was forced to swallow my pride and accept that the easy life I once had was now
non existent. At the age of sixteen, my father still only had his side business. While this brought a
source of income, I knew it was not enough to support our family of three. I was at the age where I
could legally work so I sought out every job I could apply for and hoped that I could help my parents
in whatever way I could. Perhaps the most defining moment in my life was seeing how my mother and
father both sacrificed meals and necessities for me. This sent a sense of urgency throughout my being,
an urge in which I needed to give back to my

Controversy Surrounding The New Immigration Reform Essay
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the new immigration reform that was introduced by
President Barack Obama. The issue has been split between politicians because one side wants illegal
immigrants to face deportation while others want to make drastic changes to improve the broken
system, so President Obama decided to take his own legal action on the issue. Three critical elements
of the President s executive actions are: cracking down on illegal immigration at the border, deporting
felons not families, and accountability by passing criminal background checks and paying their fair
share of taxes (The White House). Every year hundreds of thousands of immigrants come into the
United States illegally. These immigrants come to America for a variety of reasons; whether it s
hoping for a chance at a better life or escaping violence and poverty in their home country. America s
immigration system has been broken for decades. Too many employers cheat the system by hiring
undocumented workers who don t have proper work authorization. There are millions of people living
in the shadows that are afraid of being caught by authorities and sent back. These ongoing problems
are neither good for the economy or the country. Obama has argued that this has been an ongoing
problem for decades and that its time to fix this broken system. The President s actions will streamline
legal immigration to boost our economy and will promote naturalization for those who qualify (The

Essay On How To Break Your Ankle
A human being, a person, a mortal, an individual really can t appreciate the little things until you have
it all taken away from you. I am saying this as I have experienced it in the past. One of the worst
experiences in my life so far was when I broke my ankle in three different places and dislocated it all
at once. The actual breaking of my ankle and the process of recovery was the long and painful part,
but however, I did learn valuable life lessons to work with for future reference. It was Christmas
time... All you saw we re christmas lights outside and Mariah Carey on the radio singing All I want for
Christmas is You. December 13th, 2013 was a normal day for many people except for me, an
unfortunate event occurred as I attended my volleyball practice 30 minutes from home. For about
seven months, I faced pain, depression, and challenges that life comes with that I had no choice but to
overcome and be strong throughout. Although, breaking your ankle doesn t seem like a big deal while
looking at life as a whole, it actually refocused my view to the right way to continue living life. To
continue with the story, the night went on. I ended up in the hospital that night with tears running
down my face due to the amount of pain I was in. The last thing I wanted to think of was that my
ankle was broken, but the only news the emergency room gave me was that I needed to see an
Orthopedic ankle specialist immediately due to my injury. I ended up going home not even being able
to shower and falling asleep because of medication the doctors gave me at the emergency room. The
next day came and I woke up to my mom helping me get up to get in the car to drive 45 minutes from
home to attend to an appointment my mom made with an Orthopedic specialist. Luckily, my mom
knew the doctor and he told her to have me come immediately. The doctor s office was so cold but
maybe I was also just so anxious to find out what was wrong with my ankle. Was my ankle fractured?
Or was my ankle broken? I couldn t stop thinking about it. I couldn t stop thinking about the news I
was just about to receive because I knew it was more than just a fracture. I wish it was all just a dream

Comparison Of Adgio Bronzino And Robert Campin
The Comparison of Angolo Bronzino and Robert Campin Paintings One must truly have the desire to
understand the true nature of another s painting to find the impression or story the creator is pertaining
to. These two painting Cupid Folly Venus and Time by Angolo Bronzino and The Merode Alter Piece
by Robert Campin tell a story with every detailed brush stroke. Throughout this essay one will
compare, contrast, symbolize, and Iconograph the two painting, to get a better idea how they are
similar and different. First one must understand the symbolism, reasoning and iconography of both
painting, starting with Cupid, Folly, Venus and Time This painting dates back to 1546, is an oil on
wood, 61 x 56 ¾ displayed at National Gallery in London, England. Cosimo de media, the duke of
France ordered this painting, who then gave it to king Francis 1 of France. This painting was
considered sophisticated, playful, and erotic for the time period. The iconography in this painting has
been studied extensively by art scholars for many years, this is what has been determined thus this far.
Looking at this picture you see many different things going on, almost chaotic, especially for those
who may not know Greek mythology, yet once one knows these myths one will see the suspected
hidden meaning in this work. Starting off Mr. Bronzino paints Venus whom seems to be the object
being used by those around her for their pleasure, or entertainment. She holds an apple which is meant

Essay on Biomechanics of Running
Introduction: A Qualitative Analysis of Running
In the 1970 s, thousands of people took to the road with a new trend of exercise running. It was fairly
easy; just put one foot in front of the other as fast as you can and go as far as you can. Feel the burn in
your chest? The sweat trickling down your face? The throb in your knees as your foot pounds into the
ground with every step? Well then, you re exercising! You re running! Since then, running has become
a dominant factor in sports and fitness; a factor so prevalent that the number of musculoskeletal
injuries due to running has also increased over the last quarter century. These chronic injuries are
usually due to overuse, improper training techniques, or a combination of the two. ... Show more

High correlations were found between the muscle forces and the VOI time curves for the
monoarticular hip, knee and ankle extensor muscles. However, the correlations for the biarticular
muscles were low. The results from the model concluded that the active state of the gastrocnemius was
high during the stretch phase; the active state of the soleus started out low during the stretch phase, but
reached a higher plateau as the stretch phase ended and the shortening phase began. Therefore, the
difference in stimulation is a compromise between minimizing energy dissipation and optimal use of
the stretch shortening cycle.
Nig, DeBoer, and Fisher (1995) did a comparison of treadmill and overground running. Twenty two
subjects ran on four different surfaces: overground and three treadmills, each varying in size and
power. Each subject was filmed in the sagittal and frontal (posterior) plane. Body landmarks were
placed on the superior border of the greater trochanter, the lateral femoral epicondyle, the lateral
malleolus, and the head of the fifth metatarsal of the right leg. Subjects ran at four different speeds
varying from 3.0 6.0 m/s. It was concluded that the subjects systematically planted their feet in a
flatter position on the treadmill than overground. Therefore, using a treadmill for running assessment
can lead to inadequate conclusions about overground running.

The s Debts And Obligation Essay
Shkreli s debts and obligation. They were able to defrauded Retrophin by manipulating shares of
Retrophin and defrauding investors as an alternative means to settle liabilities (U.S. Attorney s office,
2015). The fraud scheme started to become undone when external auditors extended their
investigation (Mangan, 2016). Investigators started questioning the activity of the agreements that
were made and discovered that Retrophin had insufficient funds to cover the transactions that took
place (Mangan, 2016). More red flags starting appearing causing a huge domino effect when
Retrophin entered into four sham agreements and money were being paid out from more faulty
agreements (Mangan, 2016).
This case was unique because it had numerous funds being transferred between numerous accounts
and for an extended period of time, demonstrating a pattern of classical securities and wire fraud. The
fact that it involved vital medications price gouging to the public further made this investigation
notorious (U.S. Attorney s office, 2015).
It became crucial to study each transaction in order to connect the sources of the funds, as Shkreli was
accused of medication price gouging, repeated losing investor s money and falsifying report, and then
illegally taking funds from other companies to pay off investors (U.S. Attorney s office, 2015). If we

The Day Will Come That You Won T Be Analysis
Similar to gothic literature, one of the scenes in The Day Will Come That You Won t Be has a biblical
parallel. In this scene, the characters follow part of the story of Abraham and Isaac. In the show,
Negan fulfills the role of God (which he would, undoubtedly, appreciate), Rick is Abraham, and Carl
is Isaac. Negan demands a personal sacrifice of Rick that will protect other people, but cause profound
damage to his son and himself. Negan demands fulfillment up until Rick has resigned himself to
cutting of Carl s arm. Negan does not need Rick to actually complete the act, he just needs Rick to
accept his domination. It functions not only as a test of Rick s sense of duty to his people and the
power of his fear, but also makes Rick grateful to Negan. In a very twisted way, Negan saves Carl by
sparing him from the fate Negan had demanded of him. It is a little different than the original story,
Negan comes out of the situation with Rick s obedience, fear, and maybe some reverence. Maybe it s
not so different after all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of The Glass Mengotie And The Glass Menagerie
Free as a bird. It s the next best thing to be... What ever happened to the life we once knew? Always
made me feel so free! This song, by the Beatles, shares the well known idea of being free as a bird.
Since the beginning of time, mankind has wondered what it would feel like to fly, to travel around the
world, and to be free. Humans have idolised the talents of birds for this reason. They can go wherever,
whenever, and always seem happy soaring through the sky at their own leisure. While birds used to all
roam free, now, approximately 3,700,000 of the 8,300,000 birds are being kept as household pets in
the United States according to www.avma.org. That s about 44% of the birds in the United States that
are kept in cages. Naturally, these birds yearn to fly free and be happy, but instead they are trapped in
tiny cages, or, for the lucky ones, some are thrown in a cage as big as a living room television. This
feeling of being trapped is how Tom Wingfield from The Glass Menagerie and Mamie from the poem
Mamie feel.
In the Glass Menagerie and the poem Mamie, respectively, Tom Wingfield and Mamie both feel
trapped in their horrible, hated lives. All Tom and Mamie want is to be happy and feel free, but they
can t because they are trapped in their society s social disadvantages.
In the Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, Tom Wingfield is living the disadvantageous life of
the 1930s. At this time, the Great Depression has begun and WWII is on the way. Tom Wingfield, a

Dr. Fujii was the proprietor of a peculiarly Japanese institution: a private, single doctor hospital. His
hospital was next to the Kyo River, and next to the bridge at the same name, contained 30 rooms for
the patients and their kinfolk. Dr. Fujii had only straw mats for his patients and not beds. He did have

Summary Of Ambush ,Contents Of The Dead Man s Pockets
In the three stories Ambush , The Leap , and Contents of the Dead Man s Pockets had many
similarities and differences. These similarities and differences were found in the characters, conflicts,
and settings of the stories. Each element impacts the stories in so many similar and different ways. In
Ambush , The Leap , and Contents of the Dead Man s Pockets the characters had a major impact on
even the simplest details. ...and as he passed me on the trail I threw a grenade at his feet and killed
him. This is a quote from Ambush which showed that the main character in the story made the
decision to kill a man, which would later affect his feelings. In the story Contents of the Dead Man s
Pockets the main character Tom did multiple things to affect the story. One of these things are, Now,
balanced easily and firmly, he stood on the ledge outside in the slight, chill breeze, eleven stories
above the street, staring into his own lighted apartment, odd and different seeming now. Tom did this
because of a paper that blew out of his window, that could have possibly got him a promotion. Him
being out on this ledge later impacted his feelings and other parts of the story. In The Leap the narrator
told stories of her mother s past and how she used her past career to overcome cataracts and save the
narrators life. The stories that the narrator tells affects the way she feels and thinks about her mother.
An example of this is, It has occurred to me that the catlike

Ludwig Van Beethoven 9th Symphony Essay
Ludwig Van Beethoven 9th Symphony
Symphony number nine in D minor, Op.125, the Choral is the outstanding piece accompanied with a
vocal chorus. Beethoven began concentrated work on the piece in 1822. It occupied him throughout
1823, and he completed it in February 1824. The first performance took place at the Karntnertor
Theater in Vienna on May 7, 1824. The deaf composer stood on stage beating time and turning the
pages of his score, but the real conducting was done by Michael Umlauf. The first American
performance was given on May 20, 1846 by the New York Philharmonic under George Loder. Its
performance can never be an ordinary event, just another concert, it is something special because the

Just so you know before hand, the lyrics to the music came from the CD with trademark of Delta
Music Inc. The movement opens agitatedly as the orchestra picks up fragments of one theme after
another from the previous three movements, as if seeking a satisfactory vehicle for its expression; but
each is discarded in turn. The first seven notes of the main theme to come are tentatively uttered, but it
too is abandoned as the search continues. Once again the theme begins, this time in the woodwinds,
but it soon breaks off. Finally, the theme emerges decisively in the basses for a subdued first
statement. The second statement is calm, tranquil, confident, and the theme continues onward in the
various voices of the orchestra, broad and flowing. The winds make a strong statement of the theme.
The flow of the music abruptly halts there are rapid shifts great agitation, until the orchestra introduces
the baritone singing the first three lines of the poem, rejecting the feverish discords of the previous
passage, calling for a different music, whose nature is suggested by the strings beneath his voice:
O Freunde, nicht diese Töne,
O friends, not these notes! sondern lasst uns angenehmere
Rather let us take up something more anstimmen, und freudenvollere. pleasant, and more joyful.
The chorus echoes his Freude! and he is off through the first part of the ode on the main theme:
Freude, schöner Götterfunken
Joy, lovely divine light,

Why Is Affordable Housing Important
Affordable housing is housing which is deemed affordable to those with a median household income
as rated by the national government or a local government by a recognized housing affordability
index. The New York City Housing Authority was created in 1935 to provide affordable housing for
New Yorkers with low and moderate income. The New York City Housing Authority is one of the
largest public housing authorities in North America and are homes to 400,000 New Yorkers who
reside across the City s five boroughs. The NYCHA provides homes to 1 in 14 New Yorkers who
provide services which are essential to our city, including those who are employed as teachers, police
officers, and nurses. Being able to have affordable housing is very important. Affordable ... Show

Affordable housing is a key issue in New York City because affordable housing doesn t address the
needs of lower and middle income households. The people who do need affordable housing don t
qualify for it based on governmental standards and majority of the population aren t able to buy
houses at the market price. Affordable housing programs are an essential need to many hard working
New Yorkers. Affordable housing aids adults, children, and seniors in feeling secure and stable and
contributes to the mental and physical well being of New Yorkers. Something I can do to aid in the
fight for affordable housing is spread the word about it and the issues surrounding it. By spreading
information about affordable housing I d be educating my fellow New Yorkers on the housing crisis in
our state. I d also inform individuals who want to fix it how to do so through word of mouth, social
media, volunteering and maybe even fundraising. Everyone needs a place to live. Having a safe,
decent, affordable home should be a right for all, not a privilege for select few. We all need housing to
be better and more affordable in this country, if it not for ourselves and our neighbors, then for our
economy and for generations to come. And there s no better time than

Open Door Policy Case Study
The Open Door Policy is a case study to assist those interested in growing as educational leaders.
Consistency in leadership is critical to the progress and growth of schools and educational institutions.
Creek Middle School had six principals in seven years and each leader possessed a different
leadership style. Some involved all stakeholders in making decisions and others worked in isolation.
Consistency, collaboration, and communication are key components that drive the culture and climate
of successful schools. As leaders it is important that professional relationships are created and nurtured
in order to have an environment where teachers and staff are willing to work collaboratively to
achieve success. Creek Middle School struggled in many areas as a result of the constant change in
principals. Although there were various reasons for the many changes in leadership, the district is
responsible for ensuring that everything is done to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Problem Of Hip Hop Music
In the past 2 years alone, more than 3 dozen criminal prosecutions have had rap lyrics be presented by
the prosecutor as a vital piece of evidence in the case. [Manly] In many of these cases the prosecutor
will use violent lyrics created by the defendant to prove that that person is inherently dangerous and in
other cases, will use the lyrics as a direct confession to having committed the crime in question. If you
read into these cases you will notice a common theme between them; the defense will claim that the
lyrics are freedom of speech and should be considered artistic expression, while the prosecutors will
claim that the song is either a criminal threat or has too many similarities to the actual crime that it
should be considered a confession. The primary basis for this debate is that hip hop music is a
misunderstood cultural practice because of the racial divide between the defendant and the criminal
justice system. The precedent for using rap lyrics as evidence can be traced as far back as 1994 in
California, when they were used to prove that Francisco Calderon Mora was a member of the
Southside F Troop gang. The prosecutor went on to say that since he was a member of the gang, Mora
has the motive and intent to commit the killing he was tried for. [O Connor] Since this case many
prosecutors through the years have started using lyrics as critical pieces of evidence in these types of
trials. Often using these pieces as evidence is unfair to the defendant because they

Sixth Mass Extinction
The sixth mass extinction is the only one caused by another species. There are 200+ species a day
dying off. Human s waste of trash and littering is destroying ecosystems all over the globe. The sixth
mass extinction is creeping up on humanity, and we can prevent it but we are turning a blind eye to
this catastrophe.
The sixth mass extinction is was caused by humans in various ways such as poaching. Poaching is
huge in Europe and Africa, they hunt for tigers, then they use various parts of the tiger for many things
such as old western medicine, food, and there pelts are very rare on the market thus making the skins
expensive (Stopping Poaching). Rhinos are another one that s close to becoming extinct because of
poaching, they kill Rhinos because of there horns, the horns are a symbol of wealth (Stopping
Poaching). The human s need for more of everything is destroying, animals species and there habitats,

We have been at war with each other since the beginning because we can t learn that everyone is the
same and not different. If we learned from the beginning that everyone was created equal then we
wouldn t have half the problems we would have. There has been a few cultures out there that cared
about the earth, like the indians, they only killed and took what they needed, until the british came
over and slaughtered the Indians and turned them against each other, for petty land, weapons or food.
Since the beginning we have been destroying the earth we have killed of it s species, we caused
massive deforestation all over the world. We cause massive amounts of pollution and no one bats an
eye because it s invisible and no one can see it, but if it was black, then we would ve fixed this

Traditional Beliefs Of The M Ā Ori And The Rural Urban...
Whenua is the Māori term for land, it also refers to placenta (notion of birth). Land was and still is
extremely important to the Māori people. From the time the Maori people set foot on Aotearoa, their
way of life is highly revolved around the land. They have an immeasurable respect for the land and it
holds the utmost significance. This essay will explore traditional beliefs of whenua such as the
creation myth and the importance of Tāne. It will also discuss the importance to the Māori and how
the loss of land (after the Treaty of Waitangi) played such a significant role. It will also explore the
location of Māori and the rural urban drift, from the 1940s and still very much evident in today s
society, as well as the influence of Pakeha and other cultures. My theory is that the significance of the
land has changed overtime from traditional usage; to the way it is today. The traditional beliefs such as
Māori myths play an important role to whenua. The creation myth involving the separation of
Papatūānuku and Ranginui created light in a world, which was previously full of darkness. The gap
created from Papa and Rangi created the land and the sky. In most creation traditions Tāne mahuta
separated the earth and the sky. He is highly significant as he is the god of the forest. In forests trees
are often seen as Tāne mahuta reaching up to split the earth and sky. All life is seen as being born from
the womb of Papatūānuku, under the sea. The lands that appear above water

  • 2. Essay about John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. He served as President when the country was under war. Abe Lincoln was born in 1806 and grew up in the countryside as a pioneer. His mother died at a young age and he had a sister. His father married a widow that had three children and Abe Lincoln liked her very much. Every day he attended school and worked very hard on his father s farm. John F. Kennedy was born in 1917 and died in 1963. John grew up in Massachusetts in a very wealthy and politically powerful family. But he was assassinated before he could put his plan into effect. Lincoln s Vice President Andrew Johnson, he took over Lincoln s plan to reconstruct, but he changed it a little. One difference was that he tried to take the voting privileges away from planters and wealthy landowners of the South. But, however, the Southerners did like his policies, because he thought that white men alone must manage the South. The South states agreed to Johnson s terms and they then set up new governments and elected representatives to Congress. After the Freedman s Bureau and Civil Rights act was passed, but Johnson vetoed them. But Congress cam back and overrode the presidents vetoes and the also made the 14th amendment. Johnson was impeached shortly after because he removed the Secretary of War and he can t do that. Kennedy was the nominee for the Democratic party, who was running for President. • 3. A Literary Analysis Of The Jaunt By Stephen King The Jaunt The jaunt by Stephen King is a science fiction short story. It was first published in The Twilight Zone Magazine in 1981 . The story takes place early in the 24th century, when the technology for teleportation, also called Jaunting is allowing for transportation across enormous distances, even to other planets in the solar system, and that is what the Jaunt is about. The story contains two parallel running storylines. One that is written in the present and one that is written in the past. The first storyline is the father Mark Oates, who is telling his family a story about the Jaunt, and how it was invented. This storyline is written in the present. The other storyline is where, we are getting all the information s about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this text there is no Antagonist, because there is not any bad guy. The minor characters are Mark s family. They are less important characters, but they still play an important part in the meaning of the story. The text consists of a dialogue between Mark Oates and his two kids Ricky and Patricia. Mark is telling them how the Jaunt is working. He is trying to explain, how the scientist Victor Carune discovered, that you must be a sleep, when you are being transported, after he had tested it on mice. If you are a wake, the jaunting will then feel longer than the 0,067 seconds, it normally takes, when you are jaunting , but Mark forgot to tell, what s really going to happen to you. This dialogue is important to understand to get the point of the story, because in most of the text Mark is speaking to his family. Human VS Technology is the theme in the text. Mark s son Ricky was awake, when the family was going through the Jaunt, which resulted in the fact that he got crazy and acted strange, like the mice Victor Carune used to test the Jaunt with. Ricky wanted to see the travel to Mars, so he challenged the technology, though he knew, it was dangerous and lost . Also because the whole story is about people and technology, and if those two things are mixed, then incredible thinks can happen like the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Starbucks vs. Ethiopia (Csr Issue) Issue Two: Starbucks vs. Ethiopia In March 2005, Ethiopia filed applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to trademark its coffee names, Harar, Sidamo, and Yirgacheffe, which are three coffee regions in the country. The Ethiopian government had hoped that by forcing coffee buyers into licensing agreements would lead to coffee farmers gaining more control over its coffee trade and earn a bigger slice of the pie by receiving a higher percentage of earnings from the retail price of coffee. It is estimated that Ethiopian farmers could earn up to USD 88 million extra per year. Utilitarianism is an ethical doctrine which states that people should produce the most happiness or pleasure for everyone who is affected by those actions. The utilitarian view of justice proposes an economic system which will benefit the society than any other system. Besides, the proponents of this view also hold the opinion that steps should be taken to reduce great income disparities that further polarize our society. Hence it is suggested that an egalitarian allocation of income would increase the income of people who earn less which would eventually boost total happiness (Shaw, 2005) The underlying fact that coffee farmers only get 10% of the profit of each cup of coffee sold and millions of Ethiopians who rely on coffee trade as a source of income and living under extreme poverty suggests that Starbucks did not practice what they preach and should have taken a more holistic approach in helping coffee farmers in Ethiopia earning a fairer share of income from the coffee trade. Proponents of the broader view of corporate social responsibility stress that organizations are integrated with the rest of the society and have a moral obligation to their stakeholders which include employees, suppliers, customers, the community, and the society at large (Shaw, 2005). She ignores the uncomfortable look on his face and tells him to hurry up. He sits in the dressing room in silence, looking at himself in the mirror, the dress hanging on a hook beside him. He furrows his brows, covers his chest with his arms, and stares at the face looking back at him. It doesn t look right, he thinks, trying not to cry. All his life he had been called she and girl and it never felt right. No one told him it was okay to feel this way when he brought it up, instead yelling at him, telling him he was just confused. It made him sick, pretending to be a girl, but no one listened or cared. Due to the many misconceptions about them, transgender people face harmful discrimination, whether being told their feelings are invalid, that there is no such thing, or being killed for who they are. Identifying as a gender other than the one you are assigned at birth is seen as unnatural in a world ruled by a rigid gender binary, so understanding transgender people s experiences is necessary for a safe life for them. Some protections are already available to transgender people, though paltry: Only 15 [states] and the District of Columbia have laws prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity/expression ( Knowledge Center ). I know that you will think this is very lame but I had to chose someone. Hopefully you will enjoy revisiting some of these moments we had together. About 5 years ago you were snowmobile racing, and you were doing super good until you crashed. You were racing with Dalton. I remember it was very cold outside and it was in early January. It was one of the last races of the night; you went off the edge of the track. The snowmobile went as high as the light fixtures; it was terrifying. Everyone ran over to you to check and see if you were okay. The medics arrived and took you in an ambulance to the nearest hospital. The doctors said that you had broken 5 vertebrates and shattered your tailbone. You were on bed rest for many months but ended up having a great recovery. The first maybe 12 years of our lives together you were pretty mean to me. You would make wait 3 feet behind you for the bus, wait to get inside, push me in the snow, and overall just harass me. Divorce Mediation And A Divorce Mediator Keywords: Divorce mediator Broadrun VA, Divorce Mediation lawyer in Virginia, Business Disputes in Virginia, Business Litigation in Broadrun VA The Role of a Divorce Mediator in Broadrun, VA Although a judge and a divorce mediator in Broadrun, Virginia both have the ability to finalize a divorce case, the way they do so is quite different. The role of a divorce mediator in Broadrun, Virginia is more of a helping one. In contrast, the role of a judge is that of a decision maker. In most instances, the parties are more satisfied with the results of their cases when they use a divorce mediator, primarily because they are able to have a direct role in the negotiation of a settlement agreement. A divorce mediator assists the parties in a divorce case with creating a settlement agreement. To do so, the divorce mediator will first meet with the parties to discuss their positions in the dispute. The divorce mediator will next attempt to help the parties find common ground in their positions. Once the parties have reached agreement on an issue, the mediator will make note of the agreement and move on to the next contested issue. Issue by issue, the divorce mediator will discuss the case with the parties and help them settle as many issues as possible. Whereas a judge will make a decision for the parties, the mediator helps them make their own decisions. In fact, a mediator has no decision making power during mediation. The fate of the case is entirely in the hands of the parties. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Truth traps are concerned with the data that are apprehended and are within the boxcars of the train (Prisig (ZMM), 410). The narrator speaks of truth traps and the ability to understand data using a scientific method, though the issue of yes no questions are brought up with a third option of mu which states neither yes or no. Dungeons and Dragons requires the players to think critically about decisions being made and while this thinking is going on questions are often asked to the other players and often to the Dungeon Master. Though in most instances the Dungeon Master does not give simple yes or no replies to these questions it seems as if he or she sticks with this mu to allow the group of players to figure it out for themselves. This is often due to the fact that the Dungeon Master wants to see the way the players handle a situation for possible character development or to make it more realistic as there is no person you can ask in the real world to solve all of ones issues or to tell them what to do next, where to go to, etc. this would make the Dungeon Masters actions similar to those explained by the narrator as Buddha s actions, since if the Dungeon Master were to answer your question it could be incorrect due to the fact the world within Dungeons and Dragons is what the players wish to make it not a straight forward way where the players have to do very specific things in order to move on in a ... • 10. Acute Myeloid Leukemi Symptoms And Treatment Connor Stockman Bio 325 12/2/14 Acute Myeloid Leukemia This year in the United States there will be an estimated 1,665,540 diagnosed cancer cases and 585,720 deaths due to the disease.1 Cancer ranks as the second most common cause of death in the US only behind heart disease. As cancer accounts for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the United States2, many people view the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence. This feeling of hopelessness can lead patients to make questionable decisions regarding treatment options. While current advances have led to increasingly positive prognoses for those diagnosed with differing forms of cancer, the significant death rate among those same patients may deter cancer patients from seeking traditional therapies and treatments. What people often times do not realize is that most of these alternative forms of treatment that have not been proven to be effective may be more detrimental to patients health than the actual cancer itself. In order to fully understand the effectiveness of the treatments that a patient is going to receive, it is important to look not only the physiological effects of the treatments themselves, but also the effects of the disease. Each year in the United States roughly 2.4 per every 100,000 Americans under the age of 65 are diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and 12.6 per 100,000 are diagnosed over the age of 65 10. Up until the 1970s the five year survival rates for affected patients was less than 15 percent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The traditional change model consists of three steps: unfreezing, that is, recognizing the need for change because of some event or threat, the actual change actions and refreezing, that is, incorporating new ways of operating, and thinking into the everyday operations of the organization. Apply this model to the situation at the Coca Cola Company at the point when the lawsuit was served in 1999. As it is stated in the case of Coca Cola, it was a marketing machine ran by bureaucrats and accountants focused more on getting the most out of what they had than of thinking of good ideas (Harvey Allard, 2015, p. 100). At that stage, Ivestor, who was a CEO of the company, was focusing more on the numbers and revenues than on what is really going inside of the company. He was described as arrogant and insecure (Harvey Allard, 2015, p. 100) and refused to listen to his own people, working for him. Instead of solving the real problems in the company, he was focusing on keeping profits on the same level. Case gives an example of passivity of his actions by increasing the price of Coke syrup sales to bottlers to keep it. Of course, it was a mandatory action due to the largest product recall in company history (Harvey Allard, 2015, p. 100) but it only accumulated a racial tension in the company, as he was indifferent to people and focused on financial results. Next, I will explore the relationship between language and emotion. An example that I have noticed of language controlling emotion is while learning Spanish. I have just begun to learn Spanish about five months ago. One of the first things I learned in Spanish was that there are two different pronouns for the word you. Firstly, there is the casual you, tú and the respectful you, usted . This is quite interesting because it may be possible that using these two words when speaking with two different people might affect our emotions toward them. For example, if I am speaking to someone on the football pitch and refer to him or her as tú, I would feel more relaxed and even lack respect to him or her. On the other hand, if I was speaking to my Spanish teacher I would refer to him as usted, and I would feel more respectful toward him. Another example of this that I being a speaker of both English and Hindi, have noticed is the word sukhi , for which the closest English translation is peaceful . However, the most appropriate word for peaceful in Hindi is shanti . Sukhi is being peaceful, but on a much larger scale something that cannot be expressed accurately in English. Perhaps I am only hypothesizing, this is due to the fact that Indian culture is generally more spiritual, and therefore they have a word for being completely at peace with everything. ... Knights had to undergo years of training starting as a young boy. Though they were well trained, knights still needed protection. To protect themselves, knights would wear complex armor that usually took over an hour to put on, and often needed the help of his squire. In order to fight well, they needed strong weapons. A knight s weapons were sharp and durable. In France, England, and Germany, knights defended their lords Usually if a boy s father was a knight or was of a noble family, he would automatically become a knight. Sometimes, if a man proved that he was good on the battlefield, he was pronounced a knight. Young boys, usually age seven, were sent to castles or to wealthy people s houses. There, they would start their training. The ranks of a knight in training showed how long he had been working towards knighthood. The ranks are from least to greatest: page, squire, and knight. An ethnic group is defined as a category of people who identify with each other based on common language, ancestral, social, cultural, or national experiences (Bailey 2010). Currently, the Irish Traveller community is not recognised by the Irish government as an ethnic minority group. This is despite the best efforts from the government funded non governmental organisation Pavee Point which was established in 1985 to improve the human rights of Irish Travellers and to help bridge the economic and social inequalities between Travellers and settled people in Ireland (Pavee Point 2016). Pavee Lackeen is a 2005 documentary style film which captures young Traveller girl Winnie Maughan over ten months as she lived in a roadside caravan with her mother and ten brothers in Dublin. The living conditions of Winnie and her family are common throughout the Travelling community in Ireland, as stated by Pavee Point (2016) that 800 Traveller families live on the side of the road with no running water or sanitation . This film, in contrast to Into The West, which though accurate of its representation of Travellers is a fiction film, not real world. Pavee Lackeen is a very real depiction of how Irish Travellers live in society today. Winnie Maughan is not an actress, she was filmed in her own home with no cinematic effects added to enhance or derail the experience of her surroundings. The result is a real life illustration of the lives of Travellers in Ireland. The film portrays the poverty in which Winnie and her family live, in a run down caravan dangerously close to a Dublin dual carriageway. Just as in Into The West the lack of interest in school shown by children and parents alike emphasizes the stereotype of Travellers but the fact that it is highlighted in the film that a large number of schools refuse Traveller children, all the blame cannot rest with them. An issue which is heavily evident and pressing is the lack of resources available to Winnie and her family by the Irish government. The council cannot even provide housing with sufficient running water for the family. Throughout research for this paper, it was continually argued by those who were against Irish Travellers being recognized as an ethnic minority that Travellers are Irish so therefore cannot be an Ethnic minority group in this country. There is a constant theme which cannot be missed in the film as the people that Winnie comes into contact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each movement also had their own view on the history of the scriptures and Jesus Christ. • 22. The Word Plum Analysis Plums are any of various trees and shrubs (genus Prunus) of the rose family with globular to oval smooth skinned edible fruits that are drupes with oblong seeds (Merriam Webster). To a common home owner, plums are merely household foods. However, to poets and imagists, plums become euphemisms for intense ideas that vary in classical appeals from the ethos of damnation to pathos of sex (Conrad). Two poems in particular This is Just to Say by William Carlos William and The Word Plum , by Helen Chasin take something seemingly trivial like plums and connect to their reader with respect to imagery, rhyme, meter, and theme. William Carlos William s word choice in This is Just to Say is written in three stanzas, two sentences, and 28 words. Nonetheless, this simplicity does not stop him from detailing a deliberate importance to the plums he is describing. Rather, Williams paints the plums as delicious (Line 10), so sweet (Line 11), and so cold (Line 12) . He artistically showcases them onto a canvas, appealing to his audience s own appetite. This is just to say how much can truly be said about something in only a few statements. Like Williams, Helen Chasin centers her poem around plums. She elegantly menus them not just as delicious (Line 1), but also as taut skin pierced, bitten, provoked into juice, and tart flesh (Line 6 8). Only 11 lines, Chasin personifies the word plum through several arrangements of alliteration and onomatopoeias, such as pout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Summary Of The Bird Lady Joshua Samuel 7/31/14 The Bird Lady. Old stuff aren t just said to be old, it s the new stuff that makes it old. Even to a girl in an orphanage seeing new things make me feel young and happy. A white lotus might bring a smile on a poor man s face and the world will seem to be in order. However, the main focus is on something that is old. Never did I have an interest in something like this but because of an old lady, I do now. The sun shined bright when I was walking on a sidewalk to a park. My normal routine and activities laid aside as I held my half eaten sandwich and walked up the steps to the abandoned park. There was a plastic playground and a sandbox that was full of sand as if not used. I shivered as the wind blew and I saw a really big acorn tree. The grass was turning yellow and I looked past the tree to see the pond. The pond was clear as I stood and saw my reflection. I crouched down and as usual, I took my sandwich out and tore a piece and threw it in the water. In five minutes time, ducks started to appear and eventually I ran out of food to give them. As I brushed my hands and stood up, I looked behind me and there was a little boy behind me. At first the boy scared me because I thought it was an oversized duck that didn t get his share of the sandwich but I felt nogalstic when he said something. What are you doing? he asked innocently. I replied to him smiling, Feeding the ducks. He looked at me again and said, Why? Something felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you came out of the closet, of course, you can bet God will strike you down with a bolt of lightning and your family will shun you. You also have to be cautious of when you say you don t believe in God, because really you do, you ve just turned away from him. You get to go to church a little more because your family thinks that Satan has gotten a hold on you. What you need to do is wipe away any free will you think you have and get on your knees and pray to God for redemption. Compare and Contrast 2 Great Newspapers Despite being printed for the same date, in this case January 30th, 2014, the distinction can still be made, and by this it can be said that if the titles of the newspapers were removed it would not be hard to distinguish one from the other. By placing the front page of the New York Times (NYT) and of the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) side by side, the reader can piece together few similarities and a greater amount of contrast between the two. These are especially true when looking at the stories that were covered, the amount of space some stories took compared to others, and the slants many of the headlines took. These were the headlines from that day. On the cover of the NYT: childhood obesity, a Google business move, Russian s testing of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Visually looking at the two different covers, the amount of space given to the 2 3 major stories was about the same. In both, the biggest space was taken by the pictures. In the NYT, an image of stalled cars on the highway in Atlanta took the biggest space and the next biggest was an image of two children crying with a chard car behind them. In the WSJ, there was a collection of charts that displayed data about the stock market and another of stranded people sleeping in a store in Atlanta. Both of the newspaper share this trait, the most of space going to the pictures. Another similarity would be that the written articles shared length, for example in the NYT the story of obesity and Russian missile test were about the same and in the WSJ the articles of Reid and movie productions were also about the same. The clear distinction comes with the content of the pictures and again it revolves around the interests of organizations: money and social issues. One major difference and an unexpected part was the ad for Oracle in the WSJ which took up as much space if not more than the Reid commentary, the Russian test, or even the picture from the Atlanta crisis. The length of the Google article was also distinct, where the NYT gave a full column, the WSJ gave it a small paragraph. Another point to note is the display and position of the headlines or newsfeed. The WSJ had two broad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. My Father Lost My Life In the Summer of 2012, my father lost his job. I was only 12, and I had little understanding as to why my mother was so upset. My parents fought about my father s unemployment for days, leaving me scared for the condition of my family. Eventually, my father went ahead and took out his life insurance money, and I was left wondering why my father could not just find another job. Despite the fact that my father had a side business, my family struggled. I watched as the food in my house diminished and common necessities seemed to disappear. For each week in the month, my family only had fifty dollars to spend on all the food we needed plus toiletries. Being that I was young, I had no comprehension as to why I could not have the newest shoes or iPhone. I envied other kids that had a kitchen filled with snacks and food, and as a result I tried to never be at home in my depressing kitchen. To say the least, I was angry with the world. I felt outraged that I could not get simple things such as a chocolate bar and I pondered on how I use to be able to pile stuff into a cart with no thought about the bill that would be put on my father s bank account. I will admit, I was a spoiled child. I could get away with buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff and feel no remorse for my spending, but alas, the reality of the economy and my father s unemployment hit me. There was a sense of hopelessness in my heart. I often wondered if my parents marriage would survive, if we would have to skip a meal or two, if I would have enough money for school supplies, and if college would even be an option for me. I was forced to swallow my pride and accept that the easy life I once had was now non existent. At the age of sixteen, my father still only had his side business. While this brought a source of income, I knew it was not enough to support our family of three. I was at the age where I could legally work so I sought out every job I could apply for and hoped that I could help my parents in whatever way I could. Perhaps the most defining moment in my life was seeing how my mother and father both sacrificed meals and necessities for me. • 29. Controversy Surrounding The New Immigration Reform Essay There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the new immigration reform that was introduced by President Barack Obama. The issue has been split between politicians because one side wants illegal immigrants to face deportation while others want to make drastic changes to improve the broken system, so President Obama decided to take his own legal action on the issue. Three critical elements of the President s executive actions are: cracking down on illegal immigration at the border, deporting felons not families, and accountability by passing criminal background checks and paying their fair share of taxes (The White House). Every year hundreds of thousands of immigrants come into the United States illegally. These immigrants come to America for a variety of reasons; whether it s hoping for a chance at a better life or escaping violence and poverty in their home country. America s immigration system has been broken for decades. Too many employers cheat the system by hiring undocumented workers who don t have proper work authorization. There are millions of people living in the shadows that are afraid of being caught by authorities and sent back. These ongoing problems are neither good for the economy or the country. Obama has argued that this has been an ongoing problem for decades and that its time to fix this broken system. The President s actions will streamline legal immigration to boost our economy and will promote naturalization for those who qualify (The White ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am saying this as I have experienced it in the past. One of the worst experiences in my life so far was when I broke my ankle in three different places and dislocated it all at once. The actual breaking of my ankle and the process of recovery was the long and painful part, but however, I did learn valuable life lessons to work with for future reference. It was Christmas time... All you saw we re christmas lights outside and Mariah Carey on the radio singing All I want for Christmas is You. December 13th, 2013 was a normal day for many people except for me, an unfortunate event occurred as I attended my volleyball practice 30 minutes from home. For about seven months, I faced pain, depression, and challenges that life comes with that I had no choice but to overcome and be strong throughout. Although, breaking your ankle doesn t seem like a big deal while looking at life as a whole, it actually refocused my view to the right way to continue living life. To continue with the story, the night went on. I ended up in the hospital that night with tears running down my face due to the amount of pain I was in. The last thing I wanted to think of was that my ankle was broken, but the only news the emergency room gave me was that I needed to see an Orthopedic ankle specialist immediately due to my injury. I ended up going home not even being able to shower and falling asleep because of medication the doctors gave me at the emergency room. The next day came and I woke up to my mom helping me get up to get in the car to drive 45 minutes from home to attend to an appointment my mom made with an Orthopedic specialist. Luckily, my mom knew the doctor and he told her to have me come immediately. The doctor s office was so cold but maybe I was also just so anxious to find out what was wrong with my ankle. Was my ankle fractured? Or was my ankle broken? I couldn t stop thinking about it. I couldn t stop thinking about the news I was just about to receive because I knew it was more than just a fracture. It was fairly easy; just put one foot in front of the other as fast as you can and go as far as you can. Feel the burn in your chest? The sweat trickling down your face? The throb in your knees as your foot pounds into the ground with every step? Well then, you re exercising! You re running! High correlations were found between the muscle forces and the VOI time curves for the monoarticular hip, knee and ankle extensor muscles. However, the correlations for the biarticular muscles were low. The results from the model concluded that the active state of the gastrocnemius was high during the stretch phase; the active state of the soleus started out low during the stretch phase, but reached a higher plateau as the stretch phase ended and the shortening phase began. Therefore, the difference in stimulation is a compromise between minimizing energy dissipation and optimal use of the stretch shortening cycle. Nig, DeBoer, and Fisher (1995) did a comparison of treadmill and overground running. Twenty two subjects ran on four different surfaces: overground and three treadmills, each varying in size and power. Each subject was filmed in the sagittal and frontal (posterior) plane. Body landmarks were placed on the superior border of the greater trochanter, the lateral femoral epicondyle, the lateral malleolus, and the head of the fifth metatarsal of the right leg. Subjects ran at four different speeds varying from 3.0 6.0 m/s. It was concluded that the subjects systematically planted their feet in a flatter position on the treadmill than overground. The fraud scheme started to become undone when external auditors extended their investigation (Mangan, 2016). Investigators started questioning the activity of the agreements that were made and discovered that Retrophin had insufficient funds to cover the transactions that took place (Mangan, 2016). More red flags starting appearing causing a huge domino effect when Retrophin entered into four sham agreements and money were being paid out from more faulty agreements (Mangan, 2016). This case was unique because it had numerous funds being transferred between numerous accounts and for an extended period of time, demonstrating a pattern of classical securities and wire fraud. The fact that it involved vital medications price gouging to the public further made this investigation notorious (U.S. Attorney s office, 2015). It became crucial to study each transaction in order to connect the sources of the funds, as Shkreli was accused of medication price gouging, repeated losing investor s money and falsifying report, and then illegally taking funds from other companies to pay off investors (U.S. Attorney s office, 2015). In this scene, the characters follow part of the story of Abraham and Isaac. In the show, Negan fulfills the role of God (which he would, undoubtedly, appreciate), Rick is Abraham, and Carl is Isaac. Negan demands a personal sacrifice of Rick that will protect other people, but cause profound damage to his son and himself. Negan demands fulfillment up until Rick has resigned himself to cutting of Carl s arm. Negan does not need Rick to actually complete the act, he just needs Rick to accept his domination. It functions not only as a test of Rick s sense of duty to his people and the power of his fear, but also makes Rick grateful to Negan. In a very twisted way, Negan saves Carl by sparing him from the fate Negan had demanded of him. This song, by the Beatles, shares the well known idea of being free as a bird. Since the beginning of time, mankind has wondered what it would feel like to fly, to travel around the world, and to be free. Humans have idolised the talents of birds for this reason. They can go wherever, whenever, and always seem happy soaring through the sky at their own leisure. While birds used to all roam free, now, approximately 3,700,000 of the 8,300,000 birds are being kept as household pets in the United States according to www.avma.org. That s about 44% of the birds in the United States that are kept in cages. Naturally, these birds yearn to fly free and be happy, but instead they are trapped in tiny cages, or, for the lucky ones, some are thrown in a cage as big as a living room television. This feeling of being trapped is how Tom Wingfield from The Glass Menagerie and Mamie from the poem Mamie feel. In the Glass Menagerie and the poem Mamie, respectively, Tom Wingfield and Mamie both feel trapped in their horrible, hated lives. Mrs. Nakamura was about ¾ miles away from the center of the explosion. She seemed to fly into the next room over the raised sleeping platform, pursued by parts of her house. Her youngest daughter was buried and unable to move. Mrs. Nakamura frantically tried to claw her daughter out, not knowing of her other children. Dr. Masakazu Fujii Dr. Fujii was the proprietor of a peculiarly Japanese institution: a private, single doctor hospital. He did have some modern equipment an X ray machine, diathermy apparatus, and a fine tiled laboratory. The structure rested 2/3 on the land, one third on piles over the tidal waters of the Kyo. He now only had two patients, women from Yano, injured in the shoulder, and a young man of 25 recovering from burns from the steel factory. Dr. Fujii had six nurses to tend his patients. The first seven notes of the main theme to come are tentatively uttered, but it too is abandoned as the search continues. Once again the theme begins, this time in the woodwinds, but it soon breaks off. Finally, the theme emerges decisively in the basses for a subdued first statement. The second statement is calm, tranquil, confident, and the theme continues onward in the various voices of the orchestra, broad and flowing. The winds make a strong statement of the theme. The flow of the music abruptly halts there are rapid shifts great agitation, until the orchestra introduces the baritone singing the first three lines of the poem, rejecting the feverish discords of the previous passage, calling for a different music, whose nature is suggested by the strings beneath his voice: O Freunde, nicht diese Töne, O friends, not these notes! sondern lasst uns angenehmere Rather let us take up something more anstimmen, und freudenvollere. pleasant, and more joyful. Affordable housing is a key issue in New York City because affordable housing doesn t address the needs of lower and middle income households. The people who do need affordable housing don t qualify for it based on governmental standards and majority of the population aren t able to buy houses at the market price. Affordable housing programs are an essential need to many hard working New Yorkers. Affordable housing aids adults, children, and seniors in feeling secure and stable and contributes to the mental and physical well being of New Yorkers. Something I can do to aid in the fight for affordable housing is spread the word about it and the issues surrounding it. By spreading information about affordable housing I d be educating my fellow New Yorkers on the housing crisis in our state. I d also inform individuals who want to fix it how to do so through word of mouth, social media, volunteering and maybe even fundraising. Everyone needs a place to live. Having a safe, decent, affordable home should be a right for all, not a privilege for select few. We all need housing to be better and more affordable in this country, if it not for ourselves and our neighbors, then for our economy and for generations to come. And there s no better time than ... • 43. The Problem Of Hip Hop Music In the past 2 years alone, more than 3 dozen criminal prosecutions have had rap lyrics be presented by the prosecutor as a vital piece of evidence in the case. [Manly] In many of these cases the prosecutor will use violent lyrics created by the defendant to prove that that person is inherently dangerous and in other cases, will use the lyrics as a direct confession to having committed the crime in question. If you read into these cases you will notice a common theme between them; the defense will claim that the lyrics are freedom of speech and should be considered artistic expression, while the prosecutors will claim that the song is either a criminal threat or has too many similarities to the actual crime that it should be considered a confession. The primary basis for this debate is that hip hop music is a misunderstood cultural practice because of the racial divide between the defendant and the criminal justice system. The precedent for using rap lyrics as evidence can be traced as far back as 1994 in California, when they were used to prove that Francisco Calderon Mora was a member of the Southside F Troop gang. The prosecutor went on to say that since he was a member of the gang, Mora has the motive and intent to commit the killing he was tried for. [O Connor] Since this case many prosecutors through the years have started using lyrics as critical pieces of evidence in these types of trials. Often using these pieces as evidence is unfair to the defendant because they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Traditional Beliefs Of The M ƒÄ Ori And The Rural Urban... Whenua is the Māori term for land, it also refers to placenta (notion of birth). Land was and still is extremely important to the Māori people. From the time the Maori people set foot on Aotearoa, their way of life is highly revolved around the land. They have an immeasurable respect for the land and it holds the utmost significance. This essay will explore traditional beliefs of whenua such as the creation myth and the importance of Tāne. It will also discuss the importance to the Māori and how the loss of land (after the Treaty of Waitangi) played such a significant role. It will also explore the location of Māori and the rural urban drift, from the 1940s and still very much evident in today s society, as well as the influence of Pakeha and other cultures. My theory is that the significance of the land has changed overtime from traditional usage; to the way it is today. The traditional beliefs such as Māori myths play an important role to whenua. The creation myth involving the separation of Papatūānuku and Ranginui created light in a world, which was previously full of darkness. The gap created from Papa and Rangi created the land and the sky. In most creation traditions Tāne mahuta separated the earth and the sky. He is highly significant as he is the god of the forest. In forests trees are often seen as Tāne mahuta reaching up to split the earth and sky. All life is seen as being born from the womb of Papatūānuku, under the sea.
