Development and design of technical
curriculum/training courses.
I always start the creation of my courses
by utilizing the A.D.D.I.E. needs
analysis method. The A.D.D.I.E.
method is an approach used by
Instructional Designers and Content
Developers to create instructional
course materials. This is the standard
approach used by most ID’s and also the
approach I would use when starting off
at your company.
 The “A” stands for Analysis.
Here, objectives are established
(by direction from management,
evaluations and surveys from
staff are reviewed and discussed
and focus-groups are held) and
issues, such as learner skill level
are identified.
 The first “D” stands for Design.
A variety of concerns are
addressed at this phase to
achieve optimal courseware
design and systematic
development of the training
program. They include learning
objectives, content, assessment
instruments, exercises, subject
matter analysis, lesson planning
and media selection. Each is
pursued under a logical and
orderly method of identifying,
developing and evaluating plans
for meeting instructional goals.
8 Years 4 Using the A.D.D.I.E.
Needs Analysis Method, I
Developed curriculum
around our Custom
Reporting Module within
EPS when working for
SunGard Insurance
Systems.
Also, because of a
complete rewrite of
FulCircle Media’s internal
customized software
(BookIt!), I was tasked
with the development of
the technical curriculum for
ALL internal and external
users at all access levels.
When I arrived at DPS, I
was tasked with the
compilation and
development of the very
first HVAC-101 Training
manual. I saw no reason to
stray from my use of the
ADDIE method and in fact,
my manager preferred my
use of it. She knew that by
doing so, I was always
going achieve the objective
set before me and that I
would do it in the most
efficient and effective way
possible.

 The second “D” stands for
Develop. Here, I would create
the content following the design
phase’s blueprinted. That
includes design of storyboards
and graphics, as well as
integration of any eLearning
technologies. Many times (in
my past) I used what is
commonly referred to as “Rapid
Prototyping”. This sort of
follows the Agile PM method so
that if the “look-and-feel” is
wrong for the Stakeholders, not
a lot of time and energy has been
placed into that versions’ effort.
I could easily, and without much
‘pain’ go back to the drawing
board and start again, with your
feedback in tow. The drawings
and copy are rough in this phase
(to say the least) but that is
expected. This is a time-saving
method of development and
looks (other than placement) do
not matter at this point.
 The “I” stands for
Implementation. This phase
focuses on developing
procedures for training both
facilitators and learners.
Preparation of learning materials
including books, tools, and LMS
software is conducted, and any
external websites and portals are
tested. I usually take a deep
dive on this portion of the
process if at all possible. User
Level Acceptance Testing has
proven invaluable preparation
for ‘Go-Live’ in my past
experience, and I would plan to
perform as much ULAT as I can
before our Go-Live at your
company as well. I believe in
doing things right the first time.

 The “E” stands for Evaluation.
The evaluation phase is ongoing
throughout the design process.
Its purpose is to ensure that all
stated goals of the learning
process will meet the specified
needs. Another objective of this
phase is to identify on-the-job
performance (for not only the
trainee/employee but also the
trainer/facilitator) following
completion of the course, and to
ensure that business needs are
met. This is very important and
something that I would continue
to do while working for you.

FulCircle Media and DPS,
I utilized the Captivate
(Adobe) software
application to create an
interactive, easily
accessible and data-driven
training program for our
largest customer (Jostens
Yearbooks) and all levels
of users therein (both
internal and external). For
DPS, I venture to
accomplish the same goal,
however we were a bit
slower to launch because of
our delay in selection of
LMS. Once that was
selected by the powers that
be, I proceeded as
expected.

and editing

Typically, a classroom of
Trainees contains 30
percent visual learners, 25
percent auditory learners
and 15 percent kinesthetic

learners. The remaining 30
percent consisted of
trainees with mixed
learning styles. What this
meant to me as a
Curriculum
Developer/Writer and
Trainer is that, to best reach
all Trainees, my entire
training program must
incorporate all three
learning modalities. This
understanding was carried
and strengthened while
working for SunGard,
ClearChoice, FulCircle
Media and DPS. Over time,
my courses tended to
include not only graphics
and illustrations but also
narration, music,
screencasts and videos. The
applications I utilized the
most to add things like
audio and video were
Captivate, Camtasia, SnagIt
and Vimeo.

Jamie Avery 1 Qualification Document Requirements/Qualifications Years of Experience Knowledge Ranking (1, lowest – 5, highest) Example of use Development and design of technical curriculum/training courses. I always start the creation of my courses by utilizing the A.D.D.I.E. needs analysis method. The A.D.D.I.E. method is an approach used by Instructional Designers and Content Developers to create instructional course materials. This is the standard approach used by most ID’s and also the approach I would use when starting off at your company.  The “A” stands for Analysis. Here, objectives are established (by direction from management, evaluations and surveys from staff are reviewed and discussed and focus-groups are held) and issues, such as learner skill level are identified.  The first “D” stands for Design. A variety of concerns are addressed at this phase to achieve optimal courseware design and systematic development of the training program. They include learning objectives, content, assessment instruments, exercises, subject matter analysis, lesson planning and media selection. Each is pursued under a logical and orderly method of identifying, developing and evaluating plans for meeting instructional goals. 8 Years 4 Using the A.D.D.I.E. Needs Analysis Method, I Developed curriculum around our Custom Reporting Module within EPS when working for SunGard Insurance Systems. Also, because of a complete rewrite of FulCircle Media’s internal customized software (BookIt!), I was tasked with the development of the technical curriculum for ALL internal and external users at all access levels. When I arrived at DPS, I was tasked with the compilation and development of the very first HVAC-101 Training manual. I saw no reason to stray from my use of the ADDIE method and in fact, my manager preferred my use of it. She knew that by doing so, I was always going achieve the objective set before me and that I would do it in the most efficient and effective way possible.
  • 2. Jamie Avery 2  The second “D” stands for Develop. Here, I would create the content following the design phase’s blueprinted. That includes design of storyboards and graphics, as well as integration of any eLearning technologies. Many times (in my past) I used what is commonly referred to as “Rapid Prototyping”. This sort of follows the Agile PM method so that if the “look-and-feel” is wrong for the Stakeholders, not a lot of time and energy has been placed into that versions’ effort. I could easily, and without much ‘pain’ go back to the drawing board and start again, with your feedback in tow. The drawings and copy are rough in this phase (to say the least) but that is expected. This is a time-saving method of development and looks (other than placement) do not matter at this point.  The “I” stands for Implementation. This phase focuses on developing procedures for training both facilitators and learners. Preparation of learning materials including books, tools, and LMS software is conducted, and any external websites and portals are tested. I usually take a deep dive on this portion of the process if at all possible. User Level Acceptance Testing has proven invaluable preparation for ‘Go-Live’ in my past experience, and I would plan to perform as much ULAT as I can before our Go-Live at your company as well. I believe in doing things right the first time.
  • 3. Jamie Avery 3  The “E” stands for Evaluation. The evaluation phase is ongoing throughout the design process. Its purpose is to ensure that all stated goals of the learning process will meet the specified needs. Another objective of this phase is to identify on-the-job performance (for not only the trainee/employee but also the trainer/facilitator) following completion of the course, and to ensure that business needs are met. This is very important and something that I would continue to do while working for you. Experience designing eLearning materials 3 Years 4 While working for FulCircle Media and DPS, I utilized the Captivate (Adobe) software application to create an interactive, easily accessible and data-driven training program for our largest customer (Jostens Yearbooks) and all levels of users therein (both internal and external). For DPS, I venture to accomplish the same goal, however we were a bit slower to launch because of our delay in selection of LMS. Once that was selected by the powers that be, I proceeded as expected. Experience in audio and video recording and editing Audio - 2 Years Video - 2 Years 3 Typically, a classroom of Trainees contains 30 percent visual learners, 25 percent auditory learners and 15 percent kinesthetic
  • 4. Jamie Avery 4 learners. The remaining 30 percent consisted of trainees with mixed learning styles. What this meant to me as a Curriculum Developer/Writer and Trainer is that, to best reach all Trainees, my entire training program must incorporate all three learning modalities. This understanding was carried and strengthened while working for SunGard, ClearChoice, FulCircle Media and DPS. Over time, my courses tended to include not only graphics and illustrations but also narration, music, screencasts and videos. The applications I utilized the most to add things like audio and video were Captivate, Camtasia, SnagIt and Vimeo. Experience with Articulate Storyline or Captivate Articulate - 0 Years Captivate - 3 Years 3 Please see my answers above for more information on my experience with the Captivate software application. As for Articulate, my experience is negligible at best. This is because the companies I previously worked for selected the Adobe Suite of Business as the preferred application for design and development. Experience with Adobe eLearning Suite 3 Years 3 Experience with Project Management 4 - 5 Years 3 - 4 Used Microsoft Project and Clarizon Works as my Project Management applications.
