Introduction
The ADDIE model is a set of organized and sequential process that is used to develop training
programs. The model can be traced back to the mid-1970, and it has evolved several times since
then. There are a few development areas in the model, therefore, a number of spin-offs and
variations can be found in the market practices.
The following 6 pages are a quick summary of the main elements of the model.

This phase is to establish the
instructional goals, objectives,
and targeted outcomes. Also, to
analyze the learner’s
environment, and to identify the
existing knowledge and skills of
the training audience to make
sure there is no duplication of
knowledge and useless
repetition.
At the end of this phase, a
training plan with training needs
analysis should be completed
and ready for the design phase.

In this phase the focus is on the
learning objectives, the content
framework, and the structure.
This phase is to determine the
following:
• Delivery methods.
• Duration.
• Content elements &
presentation.
• Exercises & activities.
• Assessment types & tools.
• Media & visuals.

This stage is for building the
course content using the plans
and guidelines form the design
phase. At this phase all the
needed assets should be
created (e.g. video, audio) to
support the learning delivery. If
technology is used in the course
delivery, then programmers
should work to develop and
integrate technologies, and
testers perform debugging
process etc.

This is the delivery phase, it is
where the learning services are
actually delivered to the
learners.
This phase may sound like the
easy part after all the effort put in
the previous stages. However, it
can be the hardest part, highly
competent trainers can make
poorly designed programs work
well, and well-designed
programs work great. While
incompetent trainers can make
neither work!

The main goal of the evaluation
stage is to determine if the
learning goals have been met,
and to establish what will be
required moving forward in order
to further the efficiency and
success rate of the learning
program.A feedback mechanism
is necessary to ensure that the
course has met the learning
needs of the organization and
the students, and has been
presented as effectively and with
all the necessary tools and aids.
