This document reports on a study that assessed awareness of common non-communicable diseases among intermediate school children in rural Varanasi, India. The study used a questionnaire to survey students from 8 intermediate schools in the Chiraigaon block. It found moderate awareness of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. For example, around half of students correctly identified excess sugar intake as a risk factor for diabetes. However, awareness of other risk factors and complications was lower. The study concluded that students had a basic but incomplete understanding of common non-communicable diseases, suggesting the need for health education interventions targeting this group.
