2. THE AIM OF RESEARCH :
• To review the role of information and
mothers education in minimizing
pediatric medication errors in both
inpatient and outpatient settings.
3. INTRODUCTION
• Patient education is the process by which
health professionals and others impact
information to patients that will alter their
health behaviors or improve their health
status.
• Education providers may include:
• physicians, pharmacists, registered
dietitians, registered nurses, advanced
practice nurses, hospital discharge
planners, medical social
workers, psychologists, disease or disability
advocacy groups, special interest
groups, health advocates and pharmaceutical
companies.
4. METHOD OF RESEARCH
• in tikret teaching hospital and during the
period (1010-20112012) in pediatric ward
I asked 41 mothers that administered their
children ( or infants) with different diseases
as a random sample.
• , and I get this result :

8. DISCUSSION
• Most of the population that come to this hospital from the
village so most of them have poor education for example in my
sample most of mother just read and write this may drop and
interfere with the development of health care .
• High proportion of mothers had previously admission to the
hospital , as a percentage 60% of them had the 2 nd or third
admission (from 41 mother –sample- 25 mother had previously
admission) .
Patient education or mother education is very important here due
to it will reduce the medication error leading to faster cure of her
child .
9. DISCUSSION
• 29% of the mother say that they children received the
same drugs at 2nd admission .
• 63% of the mothers ask the pharmacist about the name
of the drugs this is a positive point that may reduce the
medication error for example : patient can not take this
drug , patient have allergy from this drug ……etc.
• 92% of the mothers ask the pharmacist about the
accurate dose also this will lead to minimize the
medication error and give rapid cure result .
10. DISCUSSION
• About the drug that induced allergy 46% of the mothers asked
the pharmacist so minimum cases of allergy will occur in their
child.
• According to my data only the highly educated mothers (have
high study) may equal to 7% of them asked the pharmacist
about the side effect of the drugs .
• Most of mothers asked the pharmacist about the proper time of
administration of the drug (97% of them) this may help in
reducing the drug-drug interaction or drug-food interaction .
11. CONCLUSION
• According to the population with low medical
knowledge or poor education he medical staff
specially the clinical pharmacist must give the
mother more and easily information about the
treatment for example the accurate dose, the
suitable time for administration, and the main
side effect that occur with the drug this may lead
to developing the health care .
12. ABSTRACT

as random sample) in a 40 days in pediatric word and I get many

knowledge of the mothers
• ** high proportion of mothers had previously admission in this hospital
