This injunction can be conveyed to a child by parents who have a boy when they wanted a girl or vice versa. Their non verbal message is “Don’t be the sex you are”.
People carrying this message may become panicky when they are asked to take on any kind of leadership role. They may “Dry up” when called upon to speak in public.
It is often the youngest child who gets a Don’t grow up injunction. The parents, in their Child ego state, may not want to let go of having a young kid around in the family. They may define their whole worth in terms of being a good father or a good mother.
A boy has been given Don’t exist injunction by his mother. To his little professor, the main priority is to work out a way of staying alive. One way is to take a counter injunction and use it to cover up the Don’t exist.
This injunction is given by a parent who, in his own child, is jealous of the accomplishments of his son or daughter. Suppose father comes from a poor family He had to go out to work when he was fifteen years old, and he never got a chance to go to the college.
Your Mother and Father both had their own parent, Adult and Child ego states. They transmitted script messages to you from all three of these ego states. You received these messages and filed them away in your own three ego states. From this realization, Claude Steiner developed what is now one of the central model of TA: the script matrix.
Some people may take one of their script messages and turn it round to its opposite. They then follow this opposite instead of the original message. Most often, this is done with counterscript. When we act in this way, we are said to be in antiscript.

Don’t exist was not the only injunction Jack got from his mother. She also gave him Don’t be close. Jack might use this lighter injunction to defend the heavier one. As an infant, he might make the compound decision: “It is Ok for me to go on living, so long as I don’t get close to anyone.”
In their work as therapist, Bob and Mary Goulding found that twelve themes emerged again and again as the basis for people’s negative early decisions. They developed the list of these twelve injunctions.

Last year 2013 I was studying about Attitude, then this year 2014 I discovered that is not about 'Attitude' BUT 'Ego'; Hence I was very interested to study about Ego, I came across one very interesting Theory developed by Dr. Erick Berne in 1958 known as 'Transactional Analysis'. The theory outlines how we have developed and treat ourselves, how we relate and communicate with others, and offers suggestions and interventions which will enable us to change and grow. Many times we think that its because of our attitudes that we can't relate well with others, NO it is because of our Ego. In case you need practical tests to discover your EGO, don't hesitate to write to me Through my Email address: kvndhillon@gmail.com.
Father did not hand Jack a Don’t exist message. Instead, he gave the lighter injunction Don’t think. This afforded Jack yet another infant strategy for staying alive. He might decide: “ So long as I play stupid for father, I wont have to drop dead for my mother.”
The don’t think injunction may be given by a parent who consistently belittles his child’s thinking. Little James proudly shows Father his first efforts at writing his own name. Father snorts: “ Huh! Clever – pants, you are!”.
We have emphasized that a parent’s injunction cannot make the child write her script in a particular way. It is the child who decides what to do with the injunction she receives.

The parent ego state plays a particularly important part in the formulation of the frame of reference. This is because our frame of reference consists of definitions of the world, self and others.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. Don’t Feel
Don’t Feel may be
modeled by parents who
themselves bottle up
their feelings.
Sometimes, there is an
embargo on any show of
feeling in the family.
4. Don’t Feel
More often, particular
feelings are prohibited
while others are allowed.
Thus the Don’t feel
injunction may be
interpreted as “Don’t
feel anger”, “Don’t feel
fear” and so on.
5. Don’t Feel
Sometimes the message
is read as “experience the
feeling but don’t show it”.
Other children receive
more extreme version
which enjoins them not
even to experience a
particular emotion.
6. Don’t Feel
Little boys, for instance are
often instructed time and
time again by their fathers:
“ Big boys don’t cry” or “Be
a brave soldier”. These
mottoes translate to “Don’t
experience sadness” and
“Don’t experience fear.”
7. Don’t Feel
In some families, the Don’t
feel message implies “Don’t
experience physical
sensations”. This injunction
is often given in early
infancy, if given powerfully,
it can be the source of
some severe problems in
adulthood.
8. Don’t Feel
For instance, a child
enjoined against feeling
hunger may later develop
an eating disorder. In the
opinion of some TA
therapist, the Don’t feel
sensations message lies at
the root of certain kind of
psychosis.
9. Don’t Feel
Some parents covey a
version that goes : “Don’t
feel what you feel, feel
what I feel.” Mother say to
young son: “ I am hungry.
What do you want to eat?”
or “ I am cold, go put on
your sweater.”
