This document discusses the prevention and treatment of deviated nasal septums. It proposes that septums can be straightened early through gentle manipulation, especially in infants under 1 week old. For older children and adults, the author advocates a submucosal repositioning technique that mobilizes and realigns septal structures rather than resecting cartilage. This preserves support while correcting the deformity. Outcomes have been good with improved nasal breathing for many patients and low complication rates compared to more destructive techniques. Early intervention may prevent permanent bony deviations from developing.
