The Sphere Project aims to improve the quality and accountability of humanitarian assistance. It developed a Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards for key sectors including water, sanitation, food, shelter and health. The standards represent a consensus on best practices and assert the rights of disaster-affected populations. The handbook is meant to guide humanitarian organizations in their response and ensure basic rights are upheld. It focuses on meeting survival needs while respecting human dignity. Special attention is given to vulnerable groups like women, children, older people and the disabled.
