Nationalism And Personhood
The relationship between personhood and nationalism is a complex and contended discussion.
There is extensive theory surrounding the contested understanding of the ways personal identity
and (national) social identities are mutually informed. It can be argued that nationalism plays a role
in shaping the personhood, as personal identitydraws on the cultural aspects of national identity and
integrates these ideas into individual self understanding (Hearn 2007). Through ethnographic case
studies, this essay will examine the role of Billig s banal nationalism , Cohen s personal
nationalism and Hearn s embedded nationalism in understanding how national identities (as social
categories) are linked to personhood and used to make sense of the... Show more content on

Tajfel s theory is centered on how the individual need for positive self image is consequent to the
outlay of personal identities into positively valued social identities (Tajfel, 1974, 1981). These are
supposedly contrasted with negatively valued identities. To Billig, identities are not simply
organized through processes, but instead ways of habit entrenched into the surrounding
environment, both material and social (Billig 1995). It is argued that personhood is not merely
linked to nationalism as a process of filling psychological needs, but that individuals adapt to the
environment that renders these categories imperative (Hearn 2007, pp.

Appropriate Language In Chris Lilley s Summer Heights High
I am Chris Lilley, the producer of Summer Heights High. I believe that Summer Heights High
has some positives and negatives. The language, behaviours and values that are used in the
several episodes are not suitable for children under 15 years old. This means that your 11 year
old child should not be watching Summer Heights High. The language that is used may
influence children that are younger than 15 years of age to use the inappropriate language said
in the episode such as Sorry, ranga or It s not appropriate because he s homo . This language
used would show children under 15 years of age that it is right to say this inappropriate language
to people. Children over 15 may have matured but children younger might may have not. The
message of using inappropriate language is called satire , this means, the use of humour, irony,
exaggeration, or ridicule to show and criticize people s stupidity mainly in the situation of current
policies and other issues. It is to make the show funny from certain things that the main characters
say but in reality we all know that it is true and not quite funny. By putting inappropriate language
in the episodes is because I want to show how in the world today, language is used in nearly every
school and this is not right.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Others
Film Analysis: The Others
The Others is a horror film released on August 10th 2001, directed by Alejandro Amenabar. The
film received 83 percent positive reviews on the movie review site, Rotten Tomatoes . The
majority of the positive reviews related to an exceptional performance by Nicole Kidman, who
plays Grace Stewart. The website consensus stated; The Others is a spooky thriller that reminds us
that a movie doesn t need expensive special effects to be creepy . The film does have some good
and intense moments, but the 83 percent that people gave it may be slightly more than it s
worthy of. Overall, the film did a good job appealing to the viewer s psychological needs by using
a variety of fear inducing tactics throughout. It did so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, relating to one of Sigmund Freud s Key elements of horror fiction this film creates an
atmosphere that arouses a strong emotional response in the viewer. It does this by causing us to
wonder if all of the characters are simply crazy in their own ways, or if this creepy old house
contains more than meets the eye. We begin to feel horribly uncomfortable at how angry Grace
becomes with her daughter, and slightly creeped out by what s going through Anne s head when
it comes to her ghost stories. Secondly, this story features the theory that the mind finds
pleasure in any kind of stimulation including fear, and we like to feel outside of our element.
This film gave us the creeps and made us feel threatened and slightly uncomfortable. It also had a
few jump scare moments causing our minds to become stimulated with fear. These theories
relate to the article Scared Witless The Psychology of Fear . This movie gives the viewer a lot of
anticipation, giving us an odd sense of cerebral pleasure. Sigmund Freud defined horror as a
fascinated dread in the presence of immortal material . Fascinated is to be irresistibly drawn to
something. Dread is to anticipate something with great fear. Immaterial is something that does not
consist of matter. We the viewers, were irresistibly drawn to find out if Anne s stories were true. We

The Potlatches of Northwestern Tribes
In the Metropolitan Museum of art there is a wide verity of objects for the Northwest tribes. In
the Northwest coast music is highly associated with ceremonies and feasts known as the
potlatches. Potlatches were held by a host to establish or uphold his status position in society.
Other times they were to signify a significant event in his family like the birth of a child, a
daughter s first menses, or a son s marriage. Potlatches are to be successful and guests are invited
to a potlatch to share food and receive gifts or payment. The host provides everything from food,
drink, entertainment and, also his gifts to each of his guests. The value of the gift depends on the
social status of the recipient, the higher the respect for him the more valuable the gift is. If his gift
in not that valuable or wanted it would look bad for the provider. If this happens the host must add
another gift to satisfy his guest. A potlatch can last for several days when celebrating a passing
spirit that contains feasting, singing, performing ritual dances, competitions and other events.
During these potlatches the events is traditionally marked by ceremonial dances and also by songs.
The songs get an extra effect by providing whistles, rattles, and specific vocal utterances. Whistles
are associated with the spirits. A main element used by the Northwest coast is the beat of a drum.
They are known to play individual hand drums with one another instead of playing a one giant
drum like in the Great

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Literary Analysis
Author Information: Maya Angelou, both the writer and protagonist of I Know Why the Caged
Bird Sings, spent the majority of her childhood in Stamps, Arkansas in the wake of her parent s
divorce at the age of three. She, along with her older brother, lived with their grandmother
(Annie Henderson), whom they call Momma, at the only black store in the segregated town of
Stamps. Annie later became a big influence in her life and helped her develop self confidence
and pride. Growing up, Maya had to deal with her insecurities over her looks and the rejection
and abandonment of her biological parents. Southern racism is also a concern and appears
throughout her life in the form of humiliation and lynch mobs. From Momma s store, Maya
watches the pitiful cotton pickers as they travel to and from work every day. At the age of eight,
Maya s father (Annie s son) unexpectedly shows up to take her and her brother Bailey to live with
Vivian, their mother, in St. Louis, Missouri. Vivian makes a living off of gambling parlours. One
morning Vivian s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

students that they are expected to become only athletes or servants. When Maya gets a tooth
ache, Momma drags her across town to the only dentist in Stamps (who happens to be white),
and he proceeds to insult her, saying he would rather place his hands in a dogs mouth than in
hers. An example of indirect racism would be when Bailey encounters the body of a dead, rotting
black man and witnesses a white man s satisfaction at seeing the body. Momma soon becomes
concerned and fears for her children s safety. She saves up money to take them to Vivian, who now

Substance Abuse Case Study Essay
1.Well, it is more than obvious that Jen has some issues in her life that she tries to suppress with
alcohol or that she tried to overcome with marijuana usage. Moreover, it is important to look at
all aspects of her problems. Smoking marijuana in order to reduce stress (more likely to forget
about her abuse as a kid) through her high school time doesn t look like a big issue, but it might
left a pattern that Jen picked up later in her life in order to deal with her problems. She obviously
learned that facing problems through substance usage is her way to go and to deal with the same,
which is completely wrong. In my opinion, as I stated, smoking marijuana does not present a
substance abuseproblem, but rather a core for something that became substance abuse later in Jen s
life. She states that she can go couple of days without alcohol, but also that she uses it in order to
reduce her stress. Furthermore, Jen feels anxious about the times when she does not use the alcohol.

Biblical perspective about drugs and alcohol is interesting. It is well known that the Bible doesn
t mention anything about marijuana, cocaine, LSD, or any other drugs that people are
consuming today. That is the reason why many people do not see it as a sin. However, really the
application to drugs is obvious: all the substances that compromise our bodies and minds are out
of bounds! It is the same with alcohol. Scripture instructs us to avoid being high and buzzed. For
example, Paul writes: Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled
with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). The principle behind the passage is simply this: Stay away from
stuff that will confuse your thoughts, weaken your inhibitions and make you more vulnerable to
sin. If we follow this pattern it is more than obviouse to see the sin in Jen s life. Besides her own
sins, we can that it has been sinned against Jen through her family, from her sexual abuse to
substance abuse that she was exposed

Reflection On Gender Socialization
Through this gender socialization exercise of analyzing how children learn about gender, provides
a sense of social structures and institutions are organized, created, and maintained in society. After
visiting a department store that separates children s clothes and toys by gender it gave me an eye
opening view how society shapes children s mind of what is acceptable for their own gender, and
how these patterns create an inequality between each group. From this group exercise, there was a
obvious division discussed between the two genders in terms of clothingand toys on a daily basis as
these children grow up with these patterns. It was such a normal thing to see that many overlook
and never really thought about the long terms effects it has on young children. While discussing
with my group about patterns that girls clothing are brighter and bolder in color that incorporate
shapes like hearts with an additional component of glitter and sequins. As for boys, there are
limited to minimal pieces with darker, and neutral colors that are made with better material.
Girls toys can be easily spotted in aisles, covered in pinks and purples; tons of dolls, and disney
princesses. Boys had a variety of vehicles and tools that can be utilized for indoors and outdoor
playing. As we further discussed about each question, I was surprised how much of an
inequality there actually is, but society is moving towards change and is overcoming the gender
challenges that one would not necessarily be acceptable in the past. I learned how much of an
impact these social structures are applied at a young age and is carried throughout as these
children grow up with these aspects. Child development is very important through observations
of what is socially acceptable and how these patterns shape who they are as they become adults.
For girls, there are more opportunities to dress up, through the variations of clothing. As applied
to toys, not only girls just have a doll to play with, but accessories that go along with it such as a
doll house, and dress up accessories. Girls develop to become more nurturing and are encouraged
to be indoors, conforming to the stay at home wife that cleans, and has food on the table when the

The Impact Of Material Failure In The Titanic Disaster
The failure of engineering materials is almost always an undesirable event for many reasons include
putting human lives in hazard and causing economic losses. However, even if the causes and the
behavior of materials may be known, it is difficult and not guaranteed to prevent the failures. It is
the responsibility of the engineer to realize beforehand and plan for possible failure and, in the
event that failure does occur, to fix its cause and then take appropriate preventive measures against
future incidents. This essay is going to analyze material failure during Titanic incident, different
measures to take to prevent the same failure, understand the impact of mechanical engineering
solutions. Before writing further about material failure, let s start with short history about Titanic
incident.
Titanic was the largest ship in the time of her construction, 1909. Her dimensions were nearly 900
feet long, and 46000 tons of weight. Unfortunately, the Titanic experienced the worst possible
accident in the sea when she smashed a massive iceberg and sank in less than three hours. The
accident damaged almost 300 feet of the ship s hull, over one thousand people died, and the crash
allowed water to get in the ship.
When the Titanic crashed with the iceberg, the hull steel (watertight body of a ship or boat) failed
because of the brittle fracture. This fracture is a type of catastrophic failure in structural materials
because it occurs without any indication of plastic deformation

War On Terror And Terrorism
War on Terror After the incident of September 11, 2001, War on Terror became a serious problem.
That attack made huge effects on U.S government and many other countries. Many innocent
people lost their lives because of those terrorists. No one knows if an incident like the one on
September 11 will happen again, but we have to know that we are the primary target . According to
Patrick Coaty s War on Terror, the terrorism
has been developed throughout history. So that people
should know to fight the war on terror, and be prepared from another attack like the one on
September 11, 2001. According to Coaty s War on Terror, terrorism can be divided in three
different levels: individual, state, and international environment. During the French revolution,
terrorism was developed the first time, and some groups of people gathered to clean the evils of
monarchy. They want to overthrow the weak government and establish a new one that can bring
them a better life. After that, terrorism was expanded to the Soviet, and it became the best tool for
them to control people, including their lifestyle and their own privacy. Under the Soviet s control,
terrorism has been developed and spread to many other countries around the world. Meanwhile,
the Stalin s policies were applied to control German by Adolf Hitler. Hitler killed all the people
who helped him on his political career. Hitler and Nazi Party control a major Nazi organization, the

Bus Service Is The Most Common Vision
Bus service is the most common vision that comes to mind when one thinks about Urban Public
transportation. The Bloomington Normal area uses Connect Transit, which has multiple buses and
routes throughout the area. Although the Connect Transit system is very helpful for most students,
allowing us to go to the mall with friends, visit target for food and needed items, or visiting the
downtown, it can also prove to be extremely difficult and stressful for people who would have to
rely everyday on it. After riding the busfor more than an hour, making two transfers along the way
and visiting multiple neighborhoods, I came to realize why a stigma regarding public
transportation exists. Public transit situates is so that we are given license to accept what s
right in front of us, but will likely arouse our desire to compare our narrative to someone else s,
to give ourselves permission to speculate upon a person s private space, or life, with no fear of
recourse or punishment (Wilson, 2012). In order to view the barriers that low income people face
on a daily basis when it comes to riding the bus, I rode the available public transportation, allowing
for detailed observation.
I arrived at the Normal Uptown Station at 4:50, prepared to take the Orange H bus through
Normal, to Eastland mall. I knew that the bus would be arriving at 55 minutes past the hour, so I

The Impact Of Sports On Sports Industry
The study of Pitts et al. (1994), the books of Parks, et al (1998) and additional studies including

the products manufactured and offered to its customers are sport, recreation and fitness related and
may be activities, amenities or people.
Sports we support, follow and play today are part of our day to day lives and we forget that over
250 years ago the sports established today did not yet exist and the few that did would be

The Industrial Revolution, beginning in Great Britain, quickly spread throughout the world. This
time period saw the mechanisation of agriculture and textile manufacturing and a revolution in
power (i.e., steam ships and railroads) and had a massive effect on social, cultural and economic
conditions. The Industrial Revolution had an enormous effect on Sport in Britain. Many changes
that may appear far from linked to sport had a direct effect on how sport was played, when sport
was played, and how much more sport was encompassed into everyday life. The revolution saw
mass migration into the main urban, city areas of an area. In order for workers to travel to work
and also for factories and mills to deliver their goods transport was developed quickly. This
development helped towns and cities grow, and it also helped sport surge in popularity. Teams
now had the option, and availability to travel to different towns and play teams from all over the
country. In return supporters were also allowed to travel and support their local team or factory
team. This meant that more people could see sport and gain interest. This was helpful in
encouraging people, which would increase participation levels. The ability to travel quickly and
conveniently between towns and cities improved sporting contacts. However, the industrial
revolution could not have been seen as development. During the revolution a large class divide was

Sexually Transmitted Disease Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement: Today s society enables and encourages teenagers to engage in sexual activity
and because of this; teens are putting themselves at risk for life changing problems that can be
avoided by remaining sexually inactive. Sexually transmitted diseases, or STD s, are something
that everyone is aware of, but few pay adequate attention to. Teenagers that are having sex far too
early are finding out what STD s are firsthand. Sexually transmitted diseases are becoming more
and more common in teens. The rates are becoming so high that it is alarming. Many teen do not

If a teen contracts an STD, they will have to make multiple changes in their life if what disease
they get does not leave them bed ridden in a hospital. The hardest thing for teenagers to
understand is that if they end up contracting an STD, not only are their parents going to be
disappointed, but they will most likely have social problems in school or in public in general.
Most teenagers would not necessarily want to be friends with someone who has an STD
because they would be afraid to somehow get it too. A teen that ended up with an STD would
most likely lose a lot in not all of their friends. An STD is just a giant social burden. Just under
half of the teens in the U.S. do not see themselves at risk for contracting an STD (Henry J.
Kaiser...). According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, four million teens get an STD
every year in the U.S. This means that four millions teens have their social lives destroyed each
year. According to John D. Hartigan in his article Distributing Condoms in Schools Encourages
Teen Sex, he states that condoms are being distributed in schools. This basically enables and
encourages teenagers to have sex; it is like telling them that it is okay when it really is not.
Hartigan also states that teens are not responsible enough to use condoms correctly. Some teens do
not know how to use or cannot obtain a condom so they decide not to use one at all (The Facts of

22 1A management control system is a means of gathering and using information to aid and
coordinate the planning and control decisions throughout the organization and to guide the
behavior of its managers and employees. The goal of the system is to improve the collective
decisions within an organization.
22 2To be effective, management control systems should be (a) closely aligned to an organization

22 12Reasons why a dual pricing approach to transfer pricing is not widely used in practice include:
1.The manager of the supplying division uses a cost based method to record revenues and does not
have sufficient incentives to control costs.
2.This approach does not provide clear signals to division managers about the level of
decentralization top management wants. 3. This approach tends to insulate managers from the
frictions of the marketplace because costs, not market prices, affect the revenues of the supplying

22 13Disagree. Cost and price information are often useful starting points in the negotiation
process. Costs, particularly variable costs of the selling division, serve as a floor below which
the selling division would be unwilling to sell. Prices that the buying division would pay to
purchase products from the outside market serves as a ceiling above which the buying division
would be unwilling to buy. The price negotiated by the two divisions will, in general, have no
specific relationship to either costs or prices. But the negotiated price will generally fall between
the variable costs based floor and the market price based ceiling.

Neurology Career Research Paper
Who can say if it is we who make the choice, or the choice that makes us? I find myself asking
this question in the context of my pursuit of a career in neurology. In retrospect, I have made many
choices, but choices have also made me. I am the child that was born in Lebanon, the boy that
witnessed war, the teenager that got stuck out of his country alone for a while, the young adult that
fled his country, and the matured adult who stopped running away from hardship and faced his
challenges. At this time, I write to make a choice. I choose neurology. I choose neurology as my
first, second, third, and fourth choice.
I have always been passionate about medicine, but I unconsciously took the non traditional path to
fulfill this goal. I loved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My training in business developed my managerial and leadership skills, my ability to work as
part of an effective and productive team, and taught me the value of taking initiative to yield the
best outcome possible given resource and time constraints. My year long volunteer work with a

guiding those who are more vulnerable. My ability to communicate in 6 languages and having
lived in more than 4 countries and 8 cities allows me to care for a diverse population and to adapt
quickly to changing environments. My thirst for knowledge, curiosity for answers, statistical as

medical school shed light on my strong teaching skills.
Accordingly, I am looking for a neurology program that puts the patient first, that encourages high
quality research, that values collegiality and excellence, and that offers a vast exposure to
neurological cases, particularly critical cases. A program that selects me will receive an individual

In this digital age, we rely on technology for all our daily needs. So this article FBI Hunts SF Bay
Area Fiber Optic Cable Cutters written by Richard Adhikari, explains to us how attackers are able
to cut fiber optic cables without a motive, which affects many parts of San Francisco. Also, disrupts
cable companies. In this article he wants us getting involved to prevent these cuttings from
happening around the United States, what is being done to prevent it from happening, and what is
the impact of the cables being cut.
The way Richard Adhikari wants us to get involved in preventing the cable cutting. Is by retelling
us when to first attacks happened. As well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation is asking the
public for help by identifying mysterious men. And how the cable are able to be cut
Right now the only thing being done to protect the fiber optic cable is by trying to go wireless in
order to lessen the exposure of the optical cable. However, there may not be any protection from
any nature or construction events. Also, cutting the fiber optic cable profoundly impact our society,

Why I Enter The Coffee Shop
I enter the coffee shop. As I look around the room, I notice in the far left corner two men
occupying a table. They seem to be engaged in an intent discussion. Both are clearly perplexed;
bent forward with furrowed brows they shake their heads in disagreement at one another. Being a
rather nosey person I can t help but investigate. After ordering a cup of coffee, I pick up a dusty,
crinkled paper and conveniently select the table adjacent to theirs. I chuckle to myself. To an
outsider it will appear as though I am completely engrossed in reading the paper; nobody will
uncover my secret and rather embarrassing intention: to eavesdrop.
I soon gathered that the gentlemen on the right went by the name of Phaedrus (Pirsig s Phaedrus)

According to your belief, because quality is not definable and is is not based on pure
transcendental knowledge, it is false. Nevertheless, I will attempt to explain to you where your
principles seem to fall short. Quality is scientifically immeasurable and therefore cannot or must
not be defined. However this does not mean it doesn t exist or that it cannot be justified. I now
invite you to picture a world where good and bad has been removed. On the principles of realism,
a thing exists of a world cannot function without it normally . I will attempt to show you the way in
which this principle applies to the existence of quality. A world without good and bad would be
meaningless and without purpose. Art, sports, dance, comedy, flavor, in fact all that relies on the
senses would be ruined. The masses would not be able to tell what was good from bad, funny
from boring, bland from savory; life would be utterly boring. Although the world can function
without quality it clearly cannot function normally, therefore, quality indeed exists regardless if it
is defined or not. In fact Quality is what makes up reality, it is the parent of knowledge, the source
of all subjects and objects.
Plato: Such a notion is ridiculous. Truth is based on fixed and defined principles. What you
describe as quality are ever changing sensory experiences and therefore cannot be justified without

Racism Against Indigenous People
Racism Against Indigenous People
If racism to the Canadian Indigenous is over, how is it that 50.7% of Indigenous peoples have
reported moderate, or high levels of psychological stress, while sadly, 22% commit suicide. As
we very much know, racism is a big problem in our world today. It may sometimes be confused
that one can only be racist to another with a different skin colour. Not only can racial ideas be
affected or shaped through skin colour, but also religion and culture alike. That is why it is
commonly misconceived, that there was no wrongdoing or discrimination towards the Indigenous
peoples back when the Europeans first arrived. I believe that the Canadian government is not
doing nearly enough to provide our natives with proper the sympathy they re entitled to, causing
them to fall ever deeper into the hole of racism and misunderstanding. Using our history, I will
explain what happened to the Indigenous peoples of Canada and why they should be given more of
a chance in their lives to command authority and leadership, concluding with how we can help.
As the 16th century began, the Indigenous peoples were living happy and peaceful lives, respecting
the environment and the creatures within it. But with about 5 years time passing, the europeans
came, commencing what would eventually be the cause of all our Indigenous problems now a
days... so, what did they do? As the europeans crossed the border, they introduce many things into
the first nations daily lives. Firstly,

Islamic Art And Hinduism Art
Every religion in this world has their own culture and thereby their own creative forms, like art,
dance, architecture, music and craft. Like the tradition varies from each religion to religion so as
their Art. I chose to compare Art forms of Islamic Art and Hinduism Art, as Art have always exited
me and inspired me in many ideas, and secondly arts have its own history and reasoning.
Islamic Art
Islamic craftsmanship contrasts, thusly, from such other terms as Buddhist, Christian or Hindu
workmanship, for it alludes not just to expressions of the human experience delivered by or for the
religion of Islam yet to human expressions of every single Islamic society. Islamic workmanship
was not so much made by or for Muslims, for some Islamic craftsmanship was made by Christian,
Jewish, or even Hindu craftsmen working for Muslim supporters, and some Islamic workmanship
was made for non Muslim benefactors. The term does not allude to a specific style or period,
however covers an expansive domain, including human expressions delivered more than one fifth of
the globe in the conventional heartland of Islam amid the last fourteen hundred years.
Islamic craftsmanship incorporates the visual expressions delivered from the 7th century onwards
by individuals who lived inside the region that was possessed by or governed by socially Islamic
populations. It is along these lines an exceptionally troublesome workmanship to characterize in
light of the fact that it covers numerous grounds

Implementing Technology in the Mathematics Classroom
It has been over a decade now since we ve been hearing from federal agencies, professional

and other governmental reports of the large investments in instructional technology resources,
computers, high speed internet access and other forms of technology within the country s schools
are yet to be effectively integrated into instruction in most our nation s K 12 classrooms. The true

In summarizing these suggestions, most of school computers and even the ones at poor urban
districts normally come with Excel. Furthermore, many of teachers if not all have personal
computers at home which they can use to learn and practice with Excel spreadsheets. Even if
teachers don t have computers at home, they could also take advantage of computer resources at
the public library (Zhao and Frank (2003). Most public libraries are walking distance from
general population. These libraries are often open all week some of them even on Sundays where
the use of the Internet or spreadsheets can be done easily (Zhao Frank, 2003). Implementation
Specifics 3 It is argued in order to prepare a school for technology integration, the school should

development (Staples, Pugach Himes, 2005). On the other hand, school officials in conjunction
with technology leaders who make the decision regarding how a school will invest in technology
would first need a good understanding on how technology use to boost learning of the curriculum
and technology use for productivity (Staples, Pugach Himes, 2005, p. 285). Once the understanding
is established, the curriculum developer who anchors technology in the curriculum would need to
recognize the need for teachers to have the

Women s Life Of Christianity
The women in the history involved in the church played a variety of roles in their life of
Christianity. During early Christianity, they were mostly health care givers, teachers, and
missionaries. Until recent times, women were mostly excluded from higher church positions such
as episcopal and clerical jobs within the churches. However a good number of women have been
influential in the life of the church from contemporaries of Jesus, to subsequent saints, theologians,
doctors of the church, missionaries, abbesses, nuns, mystics, founders of religious institutes,
military leaders, monarchs and martyrs.
Christianity from the start placed men in positions of authority in marriage, government,
community, family, and pretty much anything. The religiononly allowed membership of priests to
males only. There was a wide following amount of women with an enhanced social status, while
they believed and practiced Christianity, they were only allowed to follow the men. Later centuries,
as religious groups of women and nuns flourished, women came to play an important role in
Christianity through convents and abbeys and have continued through history to be active. They
mostly participated in schools, hospitals, nursing homes and monastic settlements. A lot has
changed in recent decades, with the ordination of women in some churches have become pretty
popular. Focusing on the early century of Christianity, played a huge role in re defining a women s

Analysis Of The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde,...
During the Victorian era, the United Kingdom underwent many social, political and economic
reforms for a more modern society. These series of reforms are directly represented in the
literature of the time. An excellent example is, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by
Robert Louis Stevenson, which gives a direct image of what Victorian erawas like with his writing
style as well as the story itself. Specifically, Stevenson portrays exactly how Victorian social life
commenced as well as displays the main points of social standards of the time. Robert Louis
Stevensonuses individual characters in the novellato accurately depict how people protected their
social standing and reputation during the Victorian era.
Mr. Utterson provides insight on how members of Victorian society viewed and judged one
another. Throughout the novella, Mr. Utterson is partaking in somewhat of a detective role in
an attempt to learn more about Mr. Hyde, who is the primary recipient of all of Dr. Jekyll s
belongings; stated in his will. He first hears of Mr. Edward Hyde from his distant relative while
on a walk one day. His relative, Mr. Enfield describes Mr. Hyde as a deformed and detestable
man (Stevenson 12). However the conversation abruptly ends when Mr. Utterson explains that he
knows of this man and a relationship he has with a one, Dr. Jekyll. As soon as Mr. Enfield
realizes that his relative, as well as, a doctor of a high social standing knew such a hideously

Abstract When you hear the word teaching . You may think about school and student. Teaching I

that teachers should know that they are the guiding to all student s development, intellectual, social

Differentiation is all of these and more. As a student in the class I learned about the different
teaching philosophies, I learned what may fit me is it progressivism. Teaching is a balance of
science and artistry. Taking the information and creating lessons to engage and impart knowledge to
students who are reluctant learners and show them that they have the power of change within them.
I believe it is important in guiding the development of the children as individuals and help them
mature into thoughtful adults who continue to learn.
Worldview philosophy of Life When we hear the world school or teaching or just discussing
education, we may hear teaching is a difficult job or why other jobs get paid more than teachers
especially when teacher deals with students every day. In 1982 in regards to the characteristics
in the educational landscapes, Henry Giroux noted there were severe financial cutbacks,
shrinking job markets, and massive teacher layoffs (p.87) However, some of these issues are still
going on as of today. Many teachers go on strike or just getting layoff because the jobs just do not
want to pay the staffs or a financial cut due to the economy. In my community I listen how an ex

CBA Situation Analysis
To prevent further disruptions of league and staff operations, the recommendation for bi annual
meetings between the NFL and the player s union should be considered. This would provide both
sides a reasonable outlook period in which to improve the conditions of business. This time could
be used by the parties to undergo voluntary mediation for the union s members to come to a mutual
agreement into what the playerswant and feel they need. The main purpose of this suggestion
would be to alleviate the threat of strikes and lockouts due to expired CBA contracts.
The next thing that could have been done differently is allowing for amendments to be placed into
order in circumstances such as the replacement players in 1987 or the 132 day lockout

The Tale Of The Grimm s Cinderella
Have you ever had a dark and gloomy day? Imagine having that feeling every single day. The
Grimm s Cinderella was written in 1812. 1812 was one of the harshest years for America. An
event that formed it was the war against Great Britain and the United States. Not only was there
a war, but there was also a series of disastrous harvests. Taxes got higher, and more than twenty
people who were involved with a Luddite Act were hung. In 1812, there was also the only
assassination of a prime minister, who was shot dead in the House of Commons. The Grimm
Brothers have put the dark times of 1812 into their stories. Some of their stories contain
violence, child abuse, and wicked mothers. They came up with these types of stories after their
father died, and when they struggled out of school. That gave them enough time to research and
put together a collection of folk tales. Now you can see why the Grimm s Cinderella was dark
and gloomy. Although the plot stayed the same, over the years, the story did get lighter. Disney s
Cinderella came out in 1950. In 1950, learning information was not by fear, but by engaging
happiness. Disney s Cinderella transforms the Grimm s Cinderella into a happier atmosphere.
While some similarities between Disney s Cinderella and Grimm s Cinderella are noticeable, the
differences are pronounced, especially when referring to the slippers, her father, and the ball.

The history of Mexico is much different than the history of its northern neighbor, the United
States (U. S.). At one time Mexican territory extended north into the Colorado area and west to
California before ceding the property to the U. S. after the Mexican American War of 1846 1848.
Mexico and most of South America had been settled by Spain upon encountering the New World
in 1492. So South American Spanish colonies spoke Spanish, had a ruling class that was not native
born called peninsulares who were born in Spain but lived and ruled Mexico. Mexican ties with
Europe were strong and in its colonial days the rulers and upper class individuals tended to draw

  • 2. Nationalism And Personhood The relationship between personhood and nationalism is a complex and contended discussion. There is extensive theory surrounding the contested understanding of the ways personal identity and (national) social identities are mutually informed. It can be argued that nationalism plays a role in shaping the personhood, as personal identitydraws on the cultural aspects of national identity and integrates these ideas into individual self understanding (Hearn 2007). Through ethnographic case studies, this essay will examine the role of Billig s banal nationalism , Cohen s personal nationalism and Hearn s embedded nationalism in understanding how national identities (as social categories) are linked to personhood and used to make sense of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tajfel s theory is centered on how the individual need for positive self image is consequent to the outlay of personal identities into positively valued social identities (Tajfel, 1974, 1981). These are supposedly contrasted with negatively valued identities. To Billig, identities are not simply organized through processes, but instead ways of habit entrenched into the surrounding environment, both material and social (Billig 1995). It is argued that personhood is not merely linked to nationalism as a process of filling psychological needs, but that individuals adapt to the environment that renders these categories imperative (Hearn 2007, pp. ... • 3. Appropriate Language In Chris Lilley s Summer Heights High I am Chris Lilley, the producer of Summer Heights High. I believe that Summer Heights High has some positives and negatives. The language, behaviours and values that are used in the several episodes are not suitable for children under 15 years old. This means that your 11 year old child should not be watching Summer Heights High. The language that is used may influence children that are younger than 15 years of age to use the inappropriate language said in the episode such as Sorry, ranga or It s not appropriate because he s homo . This language used would show children under 15 years of age that it is right to say this inappropriate language to people. Children over 15 may have matured but children younger might may have not. The message of using inappropriate language is called satire , this means, the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to show and criticize people s stupidity mainly in the situation of current policies and other issues. It is to make the show funny from certain things that the main characters say but in reality we all know that it is true and not quite funny. By putting inappropriate language in the episodes is because I want to show how in the world today, language is used in nearly every school and this is not right.... The film received 83 percent positive reviews on the movie review site, Rotten Tomatoes . The majority of the positive reviews related to an exceptional performance by Nicole Kidman, who plays Grace Stewart. The website consensus stated; The Others is a spooky thriller that reminds us that a movie doesn t need expensive special effects to be creepy . The film does have some good and intense moments, but the 83 percent that people gave it may be slightly more than it s worthy of. Overall, the film did a good job appealing to the viewer s psychological needs by using a variety of fear inducing tactics throughout. It did so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, relating to one of Sigmund Freud s Key elements of horror fiction this film creates an atmosphere that arouses a strong emotional response in the viewer. It does this by causing us to wonder if all of the characters are simply crazy in their own ways, or if this creepy old house contains more than meets the eye. We begin to feel horribly uncomfortable at how angry Grace becomes with her daughter, and slightly creeped out by what s going through Anne s head when it comes to her ghost stories. Secondly, this story features the theory that the mind finds pleasure in any kind of stimulation including fear, and we like to feel outside of our element. This film gave us the creeps and made us feel threatened and slightly uncomfortable. It also had a few jump scare moments causing our minds to become stimulated with fear. These theories relate to the article Scared Witless The Psychology of Fear . This movie gives the viewer a lot of anticipation, giving us an odd sense of cerebral pleasure. Sigmund Freud defined horror as a fascinated dread in the presence of immortal material . Fascinated is to be irresistibly drawn to something. Dread is to anticipate something with great fear. Immaterial is something that does not consist of matter. We the viewers, were irresistibly drawn to find out if Anne s stories were true. • 6. The Potlatches of Northwestern Tribes In the Metropolitan Museum of art there is a wide verity of objects for the Northwest tribes. In the Northwest coast music is highly associated with ceremonies and feasts known as the potlatches. Potlatches were held by a host to establish or uphold his status position in society. Other times they were to signify a significant event in his family like the birth of a child, a daughter s first menses, or a son s marriage. Potlatches are to be successful and guests are invited to a potlatch to share food and receive gifts or payment. The host provides everything from food, drink, entertainment and, also his gifts to each of his guests. The value of the gift depends on the social status of the recipient, the higher the respect for him the more valuable the gift is. If his gift in not that valuable or wanted it would look bad for the provider. If this happens the host must add another gift to satisfy his guest. A potlatch can last for several days when celebrating a passing spirit that contains feasting, singing, performing ritual dances, competitions and other events. • 7. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Literary Analysis Author Information: Maya Angelou, both the writer and protagonist of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, spent the majority of her childhood in Stamps, Arkansas in the wake of her parent s divorce at the age of three. She, along with her older brother, lived with their grandmother (Annie Henderson), whom they call Momma, at the only black store in the segregated town of Stamps. Annie later became a big influence in her life and helped her develop self confidence and pride. Growing up, Maya had to deal with her insecurities over her looks and the rejection and abandonment of her biological parents. Southern racism is also a concern and appears throughout her life in the form of humiliation and lynch mobs. From Momma s store, Maya watches the pitiful cotton pickers as they travel to and from work every day. At the age of eight, Maya s father (Annie s son) unexpectedly shows up to take her and her brother Bailey to live with Vivian, their mother, in St. Louis, Missouri. Vivian makes a living off of gambling parlours. One morning Vivian s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Maya gets a tooth ache, Momma drags her across town to the only dentist in Stamps (who happens to be white), and he proceeds to insult her, saying he would rather place his hands in a dogs mouth than in hers. An example of indirect racism would be when Bailey encounters the body of a dead, rotting black man and witnesses a white man s satisfaction at seeing the body. Momma soon becomes concerned and fears for her children s safety. She saves up money to take them to Vivian, who now lives in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Substance Abuse Case Study Essay 1.Well, it is more than obvious that Jen has some issues in her life that she tries to suppress with alcohol or that she tried to overcome with marijuana usage. Moreover, it is important to look at all aspects of her problems. Smoking marijuana in order to reduce stress (more likely to forget about her abuse as a kid) through her high school time doesn t look like a big issue, but it might left a pattern that Jen picked up later in her life in order to deal with her problems. She obviously learned that facing problems through substance usage is her way to go and to deal with the same, which is completely wrong. In my opinion, as I stated, smoking marijuana does not present a substance abuseproblem, but rather a core for something that became substance abuse later in Jen s life. She states that she can go couple of days without alcohol, but also that she uses it in order to reduce her stress. Furthermore, Jen feels anxious about the times when she does not use the alcohol. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biblical perspective about drugs and alcohol is interesting. It is well known that the Bible doesn t mention anything about marijuana, cocaine, LSD, or any other drugs that people are consuming today. That is the reason why many people do not see it as a sin. However, really the application to drugs is obvious: all the substances that compromise our bodies and minds are out of bounds! It is the same with alcohol. Scripture instructs us to avoid being high and buzzed. For example, Paul writes: Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). The principle behind the passage is simply this: Stay away from stuff that will confuse your thoughts, weaken your inhibitions and make you more vulnerable to sin. If we follow this pattern it is more than obviouse to see the sin in Jen s life. Besides her own sins, we can that it has been sinned against Jen through her family, from her sexual abuse to substance abuse that she was exposed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Reflection On Gender Socialization Through this gender socialization exercise of analyzing how children learn about gender, provides a sense of social structures and institutions are organized, created, and maintained in society. After visiting a department store that separates children s clothes and toys by gender it gave me an eye opening view how society shapes children s mind of what is acceptable for their own gender, and how these patterns create an inequality between each group. From this group exercise, there was a obvious division discussed between the two genders in terms of clothingand toys on a daily basis as these children grow up with these patterns. It was such a normal thing to see that many overlook and never really thought about the long terms effects it has on young children. While discussing with my group about patterns that girls clothing are brighter and bolder in color that incorporate shapes like hearts with an additional component of glitter and sequins. As for boys, there are limited to minimal pieces with darker, and neutral colors that are made with better material. Girls toys can be easily spotted in aisles, covered in pinks and purples; tons of dolls, and disney princesses. Boys had a variety of vehicles and tools that can be utilized for indoors and outdoor playing. As we further discussed about each question, I was surprised how much of an inequality there actually is, but society is moving towards change and is overcoming the gender challenges that one would not necessarily be acceptable in the past. I learned how much of an impact these social structures are applied at a young age and is carried throughout as these children grow up with these aspects. Child development is very important through observations of what is socially acceptable and how these patterns shape who they are as they become adults. For girls, there are more opportunities to dress up, through the variations of clothing. As applied to toys, not only girls just have a doll to play with, but accessories that go along with it such as a doll house, and dress up accessories. Girls develop to become more nurturing and are encouraged to be indoors, conforming to the stay at home wife that cleans, and has food on the table when the husband ... • 14. The Impact Of Material Failure In The Titanic Disaster The failure of engineering materials is almost always an undesirable event for many reasons include putting human lives in hazard and causing economic losses. However, even if the causes and the behavior of materials may be known, it is difficult and not guaranteed to prevent the failures. It is the responsibility of the engineer to realize beforehand and plan for possible failure and, in the event that failure does occur, to fix its cause and then take appropriate preventive measures against future incidents. This essay is going to analyze material failure during Titanic incident, different measures to take to prevent the same failure, understand the impact of mechanical engineering solutions. Before writing further about material failure, let s start with short history about Titanic incident. Titanic was the largest ship in the time of her construction, 1909. Her dimensions were nearly 900 feet long, and 46000 tons of weight. Unfortunately, the Titanic experienced the worst possible accident in the sea when she smashed a massive iceberg and sank in less than three hours. The accident damaged almost 300 feet of the ship s hull, over one thousand people died, and the crash allowed water to get in the ship. When the Titanic crashed with the iceberg, the hull steel (watertight body of a ship or boat) failed because of the brittle fracture. This fracture is a type of catastrophic failure in structural materials because it occurs without any indication of plastic deformation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That attack made huge effects on U.S government and many other countries. Many innocent people lost their lives because of those terrorists. No one knows if an incident like the one on September 11 will happen again, but we have to know that we are the primary target . According to Patrick Coaty s War on Terror, the terrorism has been developed throughout history. So that people should know to fight the war on terror, and be prepared from another attack like the one on September 11, 2001. According to Coaty s War on Terror, terrorism can be divided in three different levels: individual, state, and international environment. During the French revolution, terrorism was developed the first time, and some groups of people gathered to clean the evils of monarchy. They want to overthrow the weak government and establish a new one that can bring them a better life. After that, terrorism was expanded to the Soviet, and it became the best tool for them to control people, including their lifestyle and their own privacy. Under the Soviet s control, terrorism has been developed and spread to many other countries around the world. Meanwhile, the Stalin s policies were applied to control German by Adolf Hitler. Although the Connect Transit system is very helpful for most students, allowing us to go to the mall with friends, visit target for food and needed items, or visiting the downtown, it can also prove to be extremely difficult and stressful for people who would have to rely everyday on it. After riding the busfor more than an hour, making two transfers along the way and visiting multiple neighborhoods, I came to realize why a stigma regarding public transportation exists. Public transit situates is so that we are given license to accept what s right in front of us, but will likely arouse our desire to compare our narrative to someone else s, to give ourselves permission to speculate upon a person s private space, or life, with no fear of recourse or punishment (Wilson, 2012). The Industrial Revolution had an enormous effect on Sport in Britain. Many changes that may appear far from linked to sport had a direct effect on how sport was played, when sport was played, and how much more sport was encompassed into everyday life. The revolution saw mass migration into the main urban, city areas of an area. In order for workers to travel to work and also for factories and mills to deliver their goods transport was developed quickly. This development helped towns and cities grow, and it also helped sport surge in popularity. Teams now had the option, and availability to travel to different towns and play teams from all over the country. In return supporters were also allowed to travel and support their local team or factory team. This meant that more people could see sport and gain interest. • 36. CBA Situation Analysis To prevent further disruptions of league and staff operations, the recommendation for bi annual meetings between the NFL and the player s union should be considered. This would provide both sides a reasonable outlook period in which to improve the conditions of business. This time could be used by the parties to undergo voluntary mediation for the union s members to come to a mutual agreement into what the playerswant and feel they need. The main purpose of this suggestion would be to alleviate the threat of strikes and lockouts due to expired CBA contracts. • 37. The Tale Of The Grimm s Cinderella Have you ever had a dark and gloomy day? Imagine having that feeling every single day. The Grimm s Cinderella was written in 1812. 1812 was one of the harshest years for America. An event that formed it was the war against Great Britain and the United States. Not only was there a war, but there was also a series of disastrous harvests. Taxes got higher, and more than twenty people who were involved with a Luddite Act were hung. In 1812, there was also the only assassination of a prime minister, who was shot dead in the House of Commons. The Grimm Brothers have put the dark times of 1812 into their stories. Some of their stories contain violence, child abuse, and wicked mothers. They came up with these types of stories after their father died, and when they struggled out of school. That gave them enough time to research and put together a collection of folk tales. Now you can see why the Grimm s Cinderella was dark and gloomy. Although the plot stayed the same, over the years, the story did get lighter. Disney s Cinderella came out in 1950. In 1950, learning information was not by fear, but by engaging happiness. Disney s Cinderella transforms the Grimm s Cinderella into a happier atmosphere. While some similarities between Disney s Cinderella and Grimm s Cinderella are noticeable, the differences are pronounced, especially when referring to the slippers, her father, and the ball. Disney s Cinderella and Grimm s Cinderella are alike in many ways. One of the things that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mexico and most of South America had been settled by Spain upon encountering the New World in 1492. So South American Spanish colonies spoke Spanish, had a ruling class that was not native born called peninsulares who were born in Spain but lived and ruled Mexico.
