Sarah-Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper
Sarah Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper 5/9/18 Final Paper The two behavioral concepts I recognized in
the DeWaal paper were true altruism and empathy. Altruism is defined as altruism without obvious
advantages for the actor (DeWaal). Reciprocal altruism is the act of giving aid or preforming an act of
kindness in order to receive delayed benefits or even immediate benefits (Lecture 23: Empathy and
Altruism). In order to participate in altruistic acts the species must have empathy. Empathy is
important because in order to perform these acts of kindness one has to understand the emotion of
another and be able to imagine what someone else is going through. Dewaal discusses how altruism in
animals must stem from something other than actions with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead, he allowed his new friend to protect him and help him ward off competition when it came to
eating. Because geese mate for life the tortoise was lucky enough to find a companion and protection.
It can t be determined if the tortoise understood the actions of the goose. I choose this example
because it lacks the feel good feeling or helping someone in need of aid. I do not see examples of
empathetic behavior in this scenario. Another relationship that was less altruistic was the dog and the
cheetah. This is because they never performed beneficial acts at their expense in order to help each
other. They had companionship built over many years no doubt, but they appeared more like orphaned
siblings who have developed their own ways of communication and no true acts of altruism or
reciprocal altruism were demonstrated. As outlined previously, acts of altruism require the actor to
have self awareness and the ability to have empathy for another. I think it is because Atlas the Gibbon
and the Capuchin troop are cultural close and their forms of communication and playfulness allow
them to understand each other altruism and empathy are easiest to spot in their

The Lost Boys And The Pirates Of Neverland
All children, except one, grow up (Barrie 69). Right at the start of Peter and Wendy, J.M. Barrie points
out that childhood always comes to an end, that is for most people. Barrie uses characters Wendy, a
very mature and mother like figure for an adolescent girl, and Peter, a lively and stereotypical
childlike boy, as foils to each other. Wendy, at the age of two, realizes her childhood will come to an
end, but Peter never faces that reality. Mr. and Mrs. Darling and the pirates of Neverland are the
depicted adults throughout Peter and Wendy. The Lost Boys and Peter exhibit what happens when a
child lives without an adult. Although the children survive on their own, they still feel the need to
bring Wendy to Neverland to become their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, once Wendy does kiss Peter, Peter suggests she follows him to Neverland, because the lost
boys are rather lonely and have no female companion (Barrie 95). The relationship between these two
characters represents the need of men and women in each other s lives. The novel s climax begins
when Wendy, a preteen girl, is taken into Neverland to become a mother to the Lost Boys. Following
gender stereotypes, when Wendy is introduced to Peter, she fixes his lost shadow, by sewing it back
for him. At first, Peter attempts to take credit for Wendy s work, but he realizes that has upset Wendy.
Then Peter responds to her kindness by saying, Wendy, one girl is more use than twenty boys (Barrie
91). This statement by Peter is very surprising to both Wendy and the reader. According to stereotypes,
especially during the early 20th century, women typically need men, but in this situation, Peter admits
the need of women to men, especially young boys. This is due to the fact that none of the Lost Boys
have a family, especially a mother, to look out for them. Peter admits that the Lost Boys are in need of
parental guidance, and Wendy then follows Peter back to Neverland to become the boys mother,
something all children evidently need. It becomes very clear that the Lost Boys need a parental figure,
whether it be Wendy or someone else. Even before Wendy arrives, the evil pirates attempt to set a trap

Film Analysis Of The Breakfast Club
Joohyun Cho Introduction to Psychology Film Analysis of The Breakfast Club Introduction The film
The Breakfast Club was directed and written by John Hughes and was released in the year 1985
(IMDB, 2016). The film s running time is 95 minutes and can be categorized under the genre of
comedy and drama. It follows five teenagers, who all vary in personality and stereotype, get stuck in
detention on a Saturday morning. They are all different types of people in nature but when stripped
down and seen through without a stereotypical lens, they all have something to share and have
something in common amongst themselves despite being so different from each other. In the movie,
they are stereotyped as, a basket case, a brain, an athlete, a princess, and a criminal (IMDB, 2016).
The setting takes place in a library and whilst they are in detention, they go through varying phases.
They start off with solitude, then proceed to share a few words, and later into the film they start to
disclose information about themselves that normally would be very difficult to disclose. While they
are in the library they start off as complete strangers and barely talk to each other. As the movie
progresses, they start doing a lot of things that a normal group of friends would do such as dancing,
playing music, sneaking out together, and even smoking a joint together. The main issue that the
movie raises is the idea that being subjected to peer pressure and malicious parenting

Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison
Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison
When a business decides to venture internationally into different countries with its products, services,
and operations, it is very important that the company gains an understanding of how the culture of the
different societies affects the values found in those societies. Geert Hofstede conducted one of the
most famous and most used studies on how culture relates to values. Hofstede study enabled him to
compare dimensions of culture across 40 countries. He originally isolated four dimensions of what he
claimed summarized different cultures power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism versus
collectivism, and masculinity versus femininity (Hill, 2013, p.110). To cover aspects of values not
discussed in the original paradigm Hofstede has since added two more dimensions Confucianism or
long term orientation and indulgence versus self restraint (Hofstede, n.d.). Because of the way
Hofstede s cultural dimensions are given an index score from 0 100, it is easy for a company to get a
general comparison between the cultures they are expanding into and the culture they are already in.
United States versus France
For example, if a company based in the United States were going to expand into France, the company
could use Hofstede s 6 cultural dimensions to get a general look at the differences between the two.
Then out of those differences, the company could see what approaches may or may not work, or what
they may need to change,

Whatcom Fall Park Gasoline Pipeline Explosion
On June 10th, 1999 a gasoline pipeline ruptured in Whatcom Falls Park. This park is located in
Bellingham, Washington where the pipeline was controlled by the Olympic Pipeline Company. This
break in the gasoline pipeline let over a million liters of gasoline flow into a nearby river in the park.
After about an hour and a half the gasoline in the river ignited and caught on fire. The fire burnt along
the river for one and a half miles. As a result of the gasoline catching on fire, three people were killed
with another eight people injured. It has been estimated that total damages to property reach as high as
45 million dollars. This pipeline explosion was a horrible disaster that could have been avoided for a
variety of reasons. There are multiple important people and organizations involved with this gasoline
pipeline explosion. The most important would be the Olympic Pipeline Company itself. The Olympic
Pipeline Company is operated by BP Pipelines. BP Pipelines is the second largest pipeline company in
the United States. There were a few important employees involved in this case that worked for
Olympic. There were the inspectors of the gasoline pipeline, which were to inspect the pipeline s
mechanics. Also, there were the employees who were responsible for installing a pressure relief
system that did not work. In addition, the computer system administrator was very important since this
person was working on the software development of the pipeline s control system during

Cell Phone Safety And Safety
Cell phones have been a major part of everyday life by helping people connect with each other
instantaneously. Even though cell phones and their benefits are easy to recognize, the safety of cell
phone use has been debated because of the safety of the cell phone radiation. The safety of cell phone
radiation that is emitted from cell phones is a controversial topics, debating claims such as whether it
has a correlation with cancer or tumors, if children are affected by it more than adults are, and by
whether or not it is safe cannot be decided because of how recent the adoption of cell phones are
(procon.org). One large debate in the topic of cell phone safety, and the safety of the radiation that is
emitted from cell phones, is whether or not it can cause cancer. The radiation emitted from cell phones
is a radiofrequency electromagnetic field, and is the controversial topic at hand. Some believe that cell
phone radiation cannot cause cancer of any kind. The argument here is that the cell phone radiation
that is emitted from cell phones in not powerful enough to cause cancer, while others believe that it
still could. The radiation emitted from cell phones is argued to be non ionizing, which means that it
produces molecules called ions that have either too many or too few electrons. The imbalance in ions
is what is blamed for the development of cancer. Even though the argument could be true, there is no
credit or no support for how the conclusion of this argument, that cell phone radiation is non ionizing,
has been found (qtd. in procon.org pro 2). On the contrary, a study was conducted by the IARC, or the
International Agency for Research on Cancer, that labeled cell phone radiation as a possible
carcinogen. The study was conducted by 31 scientists, and concluded that the radiofrequency
electromagnetic field that cell phones, radios, and televisions emit are group 2B carcinogens, which
are possibly carcinogenic to humans. This study provides more sound evidence than the other side of
the argument because it gives credibility to the argument by citing research that was completed by an
institution (qtd. in procon.org con 6). The opposite viewpoint states that there are not any government
agencies in the

But those are hard to control, and may create conflicts. Colgate Palmolive uses the Multichannel
distribution. 1.1.5 Recommendation
Dentist plays a big role in the distribution of oral care products. Colgate Palmolive should more focus
on distribution of toothpaste in dentists offices.
Colgate Palmolive should focus more strongly on other retail locations, even it adapted intensive
distribution there is still scope of other retail location where small unknown brand capture the market
share.
Colgate could direct market the toothpaste by sending special coupons in the mail to consumers, or by
offering rebates to consumers who purchase other Colgate
Palmolive oral care products.
The toothpaste could be distributed through plastic surgeons because many people who visit a plastic
surgeon are concerned about their appearance, and would likely consider the different options
available to them that will enhance their appearance, such as their teeth.
It could be distributed through make up departments because most people who shop for make up at
large department stores are also concerned with looking their best.
The company can approach the government to distributing the products in military canteen or other
organisation which needs these oral care kind products.
The company can come up the concept of forming a retail chain of oral care products across all over

1.1.5. Type of Dystopian control in the Hunger Games It is usual, for dystopian fiction, to incorporate
some kind of societal control, which is oppressive in nature and the main purpose for which it is used
is, to keep public under control. The Hunger Games presents the technological control in which a
society is basically controlled by technology through robots, computers, surveillance and/or scientific
means. The specialists designed the arena through computers and other complicated softwares. A
tracker chip is installed in the bodies of each tribute so that the game makers are well aware of the
whereabouts of the tributes. If the tributes decide not to kill each other, the game makers control the
artificial environment causing a fire, for example, to cause the deaths of the people to make it all

How can powerful groups control social discourse? 2. Can social inequality (a consequence of such
control) lead to a violation of power discourse and cause an uprising in the less privileged? 1.3.
Research Objectives The objective of the study was to highlight how establishing and maintaining
power discourse in a society leads to glaring situations of inequality and when this happens, the
masses are subjected to constant tyranny and oppression. People do comply with what the powerful
establishes but this circumstance of discrimination and inequality leads to a changed thinking pattern,
which causes a rebellion. Based on the Research Questions mentioned in the previous section,
Research objectives for this study are summed up below: To find out whether social inequality in The
Hunger Games lead to a violation of power discourse To study the power discourse in the novel and
understand how it is socially constructed To evaluate the power structures in the novel in the light of

Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization
Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of
heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic.
The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of reaction or the
enthalpy of reaction (ΔHr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by allowing the reaction
to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of neutralization when an acid
and a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is exchanged only between the
reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may be absorbed the calorimeter. All
calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This amount of heat is called the calorimeters
heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its temperature 1∘Celsius). We are going to
pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter.
Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in
Kilojoules.
Materials:
Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to transfer
liquids Paper cups
Procedure:
Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the calorimeter.
Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated cylinder with some
tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Completely
dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M
HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial temperature of acid. 27.8∘C Rinse
the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure
the initial temperature of the base 28.2∘C Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter
being careful not to splash any acid on the upper sides of the calorimeter. Stir the mixture gently with
the thermometer observing the temperature every 15 seconds for the next 2 minutes. Seconds: 15s: 31,

Immediately after settling down, they started planning and preparing for the attack. They gave
themselves a few days time to closely observe the daily routine, activities and movements of their

risk the lives of innocent people by making an attack at the court during working hours. That led to the

scholar Gary Dorrien, when Murray thought about King, she thought about his ethical religion how it
drove and sustained him. Her ethical example and sermons offer critical insight as a future where
America shines as a beacon of hope for a more inclusive and democratic society. During her tenure as
priest of St. Titus Episcopal Church in Durham, North Carolina, Murray had a strong sense of what
preached and what was appropriate in the pulpit. A sermon, in her Episcopalian context, was never
more than fifteen minutes and never the central thing. She was there to ask herself and help others
discern what it meant to follow Christ in the modern world. That was King s question, as Murray
emphasized. In sum, the Christian ethics of the social gospel influenced Reverend Murray s sermons

Dbq Middle Passage
Middle Passage Reflection Essay Triangular trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas spurred
economic growth, increased intercontinental diversity, and was a prime example of a globalizing
world. It also spread and exacerbated the brutal and inhumane practice of slavery to the Americas,
where it took root and became a cornerstone of the American way of life for years. The middle
passage between West Africa and the West Indies was a voyage of misery, pain, and illness for the
slaves being shipped, and while their misery does not compare with that of the enslaved, the journey
was not pleasant for the white crew either. Conditions on slave ships were miserable, and disease
spread through the close quarters like wildfire. Document B starts to explain the massive impact that
disease had on ship dwellers. The document begins by simply stating the death count on an average
voyage from the first day when they buried 14 to the last when the death count totaled 320. The
document then goes on to identify and explain the causes of the high mortality ... Show more content

The Importance Of The Bronze Age Collapse
Between 1,250 and 1,150 B.C.E, there were many factors that contributed to the Bronze Age Collapse,
allowing the area near the Fertile Crescent and throughout the Mediterranean to transition into the Iron
Age. Not only does the emerging Iron Age bring about the development of advancing technologies
and discoveries, but it also provides opportunities for new societies to replace the fallen civilizations.
Understanding the strengths of these rising societies can reveal what it took to be successful in the
context of this time and place. Similarly, looking at the cultures of these empires can point out the
importance of this period, in the way that religious, social, and political elements are carried on,
preserved, and remain relevant in an entirely new environment. The combination of technological,
environmental, political, military, and economic elements worked together to prompt the Bronze Age
Collapse and eventually the downfall of the Hittite and Egyptian Empires. One of the more obvious
characteristics differentiating the Bronze and Iron Ages is the sort of metal being most commonly used
to construct technologies such as various weapons and tools, as the respective names imply. Historians
believe that long periods of drought in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the area of the Fertile
Crescent, along with destructive seismic activity near ancient Greece, led to damage to places of
agricultural importance. Being unable to grow their own harvests, this may have contributed

My Favorite Experience
My childhood was never something that seemed to be a typical boy s childhood. I never watched
sports as kid since the T.V. channel was dictated by my parents so all we watched were shows like
Law Order, CSI, and Fear Factor. I never learned about cars whatsoever and talking about girls always
perplexed me. I never understood how someone could base their feelings about someone based off
physical appearances, but that could just be because I was very pessimistic and was always very
distant of people in general. Video games are something that I loved to play and was something I
thought would a normal guy thing. While I had played video games, they mainly consisted of
Nintendo games which are generally much more docile than games than what most guys played,
which consisted of first person shooter games such as Halo and Call of Duty. This lead to awkward
moments when trying to have conversations with other guys, especially when I was going into high
school. One hot summer afternoon, one that exemplified the extremes that Kansan weather can
produce, exemplified just how bad these conversations could get. Band camp had started up and we
were learning the basics of marching and practicing the music for our show for that year. After a while
of rehearsing our marching drills, we were told to take a water break to prevent dehydration in the
intense heat. These water breaks also served as a chance for everyone to get to know each other
through idle chit chat. Most people stayed in the

The Aggression Scale Movie
Aggression scale is a film about trauma. Specifically, coping with trauma by using anger. An unjust
event shattered Owen and Lauren s lives. Mobsters are coming to reclaim money stolen by their father
and kill the family for the father s sins. When the mobsters arrive Lauren in the shower and Owen is
already scheming a plan of attack. What the mobsters do not know is that Owen has a diagnosed
behavioral problem. Aggression.
The trauma we act out is guided our place in ideological systems. Gender interprets our trauma in
terms of weakness and power. Masculinity teaches trains boys that manliness is defined by toleration
of pain. A boy proves manhood by taking more pain then the next guy. But if a boy flinch s or is
swayed by tragedy his very genitalia is called into question. A girl, on the other hand, is expected to
show weakness and avoid showing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What does set him apart from traditional slashers is his enjoyment of violence. While the film justifies
Owen s violence as vengeance against home invaders and attacks by bullies this does not tell the
whole story.
Lauren, Owen s stepsister, on the other hand, reacts to trauma differently. The only clue we are given
about her history is the scars on her wrists. Some unknown event has rattled its way into her brain. In
all likelihood, she was the victim of someone s whims or dealt a bad hand of genetics. Whatever is the
cause of Laurens tragedy, she directs her aggression inwards. Internalizing the aggressor and re
victimizing herself.
The scene about midway through the film where Lauren respectively stabs one of the mobsters is
telling. Unlike Owen who is calm and numbly collected when he traps and hunts the mobsters, Lauren
screams while she repetitively stabs the mobster. From her depths, something larger than the violence
is bellowing. The opposite of relief. Lauren is crossing a line from victim to something

occur between the months of April through October. Tornadoes can be the most brutal of storms.
Winds speeds can reach speeds nearing 300 miles per hour and can destroy anything in its path.
Tornadoes form rapidly and can travel for miles along the ground and lift up from the ground, and
then suddenly change directions and touchdown again! There is little you can do to protect your

Princess Diana Conspiracy Theory
In many historical points of death or national tragedy, conspiracy theories tend to come out and alter
the way people view a specific instance or person. Scholars characterize conspiracy theories as
attempts to explain the ultimate cause of an event[,]usually one that is political or social[,] as a secret
ploy by a covert alliance of powerful individuals or organizations (Douglas The Hidden ). Diana, the
Princess of Wales, married into royalty by marrying Prince Charles, the son of the Queen of England.
On August 31, 1997 Princess Diana was killed . This tragic incident shocked the United Kingdom, and
many parts of the world. Diana s death, and life, are still common topics in the world today, mainly
brought up around the anniversary of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every year since her death, new conspiracies have been shared around the world, and many books
have been written. A popular theory is that the army killed Diana. The theory suggests that on the
night of August 31, 1997 ¨just after the black Mercedes that was carrying Diana and Dodi Fayed
entered Paris winding tunnel a black motorbike and two cars (one dark and one white) entered the
underpass in a tight formation (Engleheart 30). The theory states that the one of the cars nudged the
mercedes off course and then used a blinding strobe light to cause the car to crash into a pillar of the
tunnel (Engleheart 30). It then goes on explaining that one of the drivers of the bike raised his/her
arms into an x formation, the military signal for mission accomplished (Engleheart 30). This
conspiracy is very similar to the events that occurred on that night, making it a very believable theory
to some. Many believe it was the doing of the Increment (30), who are the secret service of the United
Kingdom; they believe that the group planned an assassination of the unruly princess of Wales
(Engleheart 31). This theory is a completely made up account of the tragedy. No vehicles were caught
on the security cameras that matched the descriptions of those in the theory (Engleheart 31). Also,
Diana and Fayed were not the only passengers in the tunnel, paparazzi had been following along; so
the paparazzi would have been affected by the strobe light also (Dickey Night ). This making it very
hard to believe that this theory could be what actually occurred. Paparazzi was chasing Diana and
Fayed when they left from their evening, many were willing to do just about anything for their own
version of the infamous picture of the two lovers (Dickey Night ). Many were chasing the Mercedes
when it crashed (Engleheart

the border of eastern France. During the time of Joan s birth, the French and English had a truce. But
events coming soon, will determine the life and death of Joan of Arc. An internal war had erupted
between two factions of the French Royal family which in turn, would make it easier for the English
to invade once again. One side of the faction was called the Orleanist or Armagnac faction which was
led by Count Bernard VII and Duke Charles of Orleans. Their rivals were known as the Burgundians
who were led by Duke John the fearless of Burgundy. While the French remained divided due to their
factions at war, the diplomats failed to extend the treaty with England that was in place. In August of
1415, King Henry V invaded France and then defeated an Armagnac dominated French army battle of
Agincourt on October 25th. In 1417, the English returned, conquering most of northern France and
gaining the support of the Burgundian Duke, Philip II. Philip II had agreed to recognize Henry V as
the legal heir to the French throne, yet rejected the rival claim of Charles of Ponthieu, which was the
last heir of the Valois dynasty that had ruled France since 1328. At the age of 12, Joan began

Napoleon s Letters From An Italian Nobleman s Family
Acquiring insight into the personalities and feelings of any historical figure is a tricky thing. Often we
are left with secondary, and sometimes very biased, accounts of how individuals conducted
themselves in various situations in their lives. But luckily, we are sometimes left with vivid sources
penned by figures themselves, and that is what we have with Napoleon s letters. Through them we can
hope to gain a better and more well rounded look into the life one of the most loved, and reviled, men
in recent history.
To begin, let us take a look at Napoleon s letters to his immediate family. Letter 71 is addressed to his
sister Pauline, who in 1803 had married into an Italian nobleman s family. In this letter, Napoleon
expresses his love for his sister, and wishes her nothing but happiness, showing a tender and brotherly
side not often associated with the conquering emperor. But this letter is also no simple social call, but
a request that his sister make herself known and appreciated as a socialite in the city of Rome, seat of
the Papal States. This is a shrewd and clever move on his part, displaying an understanding of the
delicacies of statesmanship and foreign opinion.
In letter 109, a brief note penned in 1806 to his sister Elisa, Napoleon urges her to only allow dresses
of silk and batiste to be worn at the court of her husband in Italy. He insists that preference may be
given to the products of French industry , and is fully confident that such fashion will become

The Arctic Ice Sheet Polar Bear Roams The Wilderness
In the Arctic Ice Sheets polar bear roams the wilderness. There may be other bears in the arctic, but
the polar bear is the largest land carnivore in the wilderness. The polar bear may look like any other
bear, but they are different. Now since the ice caps are melting the polar bear are in great threat of
going extinct. The taxonomic group that the polar bear falls under is the Ursidae Group( Tanya Dewey
and Phil Myers). Bears inhabit the world all except Australia and Antarctica. Although, they are all in
the same group they have different characteristics and different habitats. The Ursidae Group can affect
their habitats in good ways and bad ways. The polar bear can hinder the population of breeding seals
and elk which is a bad thing, but the brown bear can spread seeds around in their feces(Tanya Dewey
and Phil Myers). But, without them other species would overpopulate the world. Each bear in the
Ursidae Group is unique, but they all share a lot in common. Bears are strong animals that vary in
sizes, but they all have the same strength. They can range from twenty five to sixty five kilograms or
up to eight hundred kilograms(Tanya Dewey and Phil Myers). In the wild it is most common for the
males to be larger than their female counterparts, sometimes you could run across a male that is twice
the size of the female. When looking at each bear some characteristics show on each one. Some
include small, rounded ears, small eyes, and short tails (Tanya Dewey and

The Depth Of The River Affect Its Overall Ph From Mid July...
Question: Does the depth of the river affect its overall pH from mid december 2015 to early january
2016?
Knowledge Probe: According to.epa.gov/acidrain/measure/pH.html, pH is a measure of the hydrogen
ion concentration of a solution. Solutions with a high concentration of hydrogen ions have a low pH
and solutions with a low concentrations of H+ ions have a high pH. A pH of 7 is the most neutral you
can get and 0 being the most acidic and 14 being the most basic. each level is 10 times more basic/
acidic than the previous level, for example a pH of 8 is 10 times more basic than 7, and a pH of 9 is
100 times more basic than 7. when an acidic substance reacts with a basic substance they counter each

the depth in inches to the pH directly, and the average of each is at the bottom of the table.
Data Analysis: On trial 5 something interesting happened where it did not match the trend of other
data points. you can see this when comparing the depth to pH with the grapHs; for example trial 1 s
depth and pH is lower than trial 2 s depth and pH, and trial 2 s depth and pH is lower than trial 3 s
depth and pH etc. that sort of trend is fluent through the data except trial 5 where depth was lower than
the previous trials but the pH was the highest collected. My data is accurate to a point but when
collecting the depth of the river it presented a challenge to get 100% accurate because it is constantly
changing; also the pH scale only measures to the hundredth of a digit. The pH Scales calibration could
also have been of slightly but all of my trials were collected under the same calibration so it does not
seem to present a change in trend but instead with the actual numbers.
Claim: When the depth on the Looking Glass river was higher it had a higher pH in late december
2015 to early January 2016.

The Revolutionary Suffragette Movement
Feminism is one of the most commonly misinterpreted terms in today s society. By definition,
feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of gender equality, which in this day and
age, seems a reasonable thing to expect from society. However, when the concept of feminism first
became a growingly popular concept in the 18th century, feminism was an extremely controversial
idea, met with disapproval and trepidation. Most people were frightened to break away from their
social traditions and allow the importance and validity of women to be recognised, and so sparked the
revolutionary Suffragette movement. This paper will aim to bring a greater understanding of the
controversial uprising, and to bring awareness as to how it won women the right to vote and how it
continues to change the world for the better.
Women have always had a history with oppression and gender role. Traditionally, the female
stereotype was to marry young to bear children of the next generation. She was to be completely
submissive to her husband; she had to maintain a welcoming home, she had to completely care for
their children. Children of which she didn t even have rights to if her husband died. Domestic duties
were her entire world and her sole purpose was to make her husband s life as ... Show more content on

Many people, including the older generation of women, found the idea of women having greater rights
and freedoms unacceptable and frankly, alarming. They claimed that it went against the will of God to
make woman equal to man, and would eventually lead to the collapse of society. Even some of the self
proclaimed feminists differed in opinion over the types of freedoms to be allowed for instance sexual
freedoms. Many women believed that this was still a basic right that needed to be addressed, while
others disapproved and sought the political and legal rights that were at that point, out of

Film Study
Children of Men (2006), directed by Alfonso Cuarón, is a science fiction thriller about humankind
facing extinction due to infertility, set in a dystopian society. The protagonist of the film, Theo Faron,
is a former political activist who becomes the unexpected caretaker to Kee, who is a young African
refugee woman whose journey commences when she miraculously becomes pregnant. They both
become a part of a dangerous journey, where he ensured to safely send Kee and her baby to the
Human Project, where they will receive sufficient care needed and therefore, restore faith for a future.
Throughout Kee s character development, she conveys themes of hope and courage. The film

to an extremely significant character as she carries the future of the whole human race in her, therefore

with the baby was extremely vital which was only possible through faith. As seen in image 2, it is
revealed that throughout her journey with Theo to reach the Human Project, they faced many
difficulties, especially escaping from the Fishes. This would allow the audience to witness her
persistence and her brave and courageous attitude even though she was petrified. In a miserable and
hopeless world, Kee and her baby are also excellent examples of symbolism, including youth,
positivity and life, therefore leading towards a change. This would make the audience realise the baby

Same Sex Marriage Debate Over The Free Speech Clause And...
Judging from this article from Wall Street Journal, the major conflict that exists in this same sex
marriage legalization debate is between the free speech clause and antidiscrimination law. Technically,
the people who refused to offer their service to the homosexual people based on their religious belief
were not legally wrong according to the first amendment. However, did the homosexual couples do
anything wrong? No, they didn t. They ordered the same services, and they were willing to pay the
same amount of money. What they wanted was nothing illegal. Then here comes the dilemma, how
can neither of them be wrong in a conflict? So, this paper will analyze the rightness and the wrongness
in an ethical dilemma between civil rights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Kantian ethics, the standard is based on if most people are acting the same way. Even though
some people are still struggling on whether they should support the LGBT community, the statistics
give us a clear trend of people s change of their perspective on same sex marriage. According to the
national polling data, the number of people who support the same sex marriage had risen from 37
percent in 2005 to 60 percent in 2015. Apparently, with the development of the modern society, more
and more people are becoming open minded and willing to show their support to the LGBT
community. Moreover, while some religious people against the same sex marriage, some of them
choose to support it due to the different interpretation of the bible they are holding. Jesus never said a
single word about gays or lesbians or same sex marriage, or any of the other social issues that so many
people seem to be possessed with fighting today , said Ducan(n.d),a Christian. Since the number of
supporting the legalization of same sex marriage has an increasing tendency, in this instance, same sex
marriage can be defined morally right standing on the popular belief. For the principle of Rights,
whether a business decision is defined ethical depends on how it affects the rights of stakeholders,
including owners, consumers, employees, the community and the society. For the firms that rejected to

Foucault Discipline And Punishment
When reading this piece, I noticed that book is all about how important and integrated prison is a main
part of our society around the world. It shows how it is impossible to get rid of them, mostly because
of the fact that there is no alternative to prisons really out there, and just like the title suggests prisons
are the main form of Discipline and Punishment . Foucault s main argument is that modern society,
mostly referencing France, are based on the idea of individual liberty. As prison deprives people of
their liberty choices and leaving them in confinement leads to it being the most ethical punishment.
Most importantly, the systems of discipline, and observation that go around inside a prison extend
outside its walls. Although Foucault ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel that There are two images, then, of discipline. At one extreme, the discipline blockade, the
enclosed institution, established on the edges of society, turned in wards towards negative functions:
arresting evil, breaking communications, suspending time. At the other extreme, with panopticons, is
the discipline mechanism: a functional mechanism that must improve the exercise of power by making
it lighter, more rapid, more effective, a design of subtle coercion for a society to come. The movement
from one project to the other, from a schema of exceptional discipline to one of a generalized
surveillance, rests on a historical transformation: the gradual extension of the mechanisms of
discipline throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, their spread throughout the whole
social body, the formation of what might be called in general the disciplinary society. (209) Which
indeed is a very large mouth full. Although this is a lot for one quote I think it was essential to quote in
the explanation of this paper. The reason being is that it shows two extremes on the spectrum of
punishment and discipline. One being solitary confinement or discipline blockade or the other being

When people who suffer from omniomania begin to feel anxious, nervous or depressed the go
shopping to make themselves feel better, they get a high from shopping, a high similar to that of drug
addicts. It is believed that shopping provides a stimulant of beta endorphines in the brain, which give
the person the high feeling. People continue to shop to gain the euphoric feeling and then can become
addicted to shopping. (Intili, 2004)
It is believed that about 6% of Americans have a shopping addiction; of the 6% 90% are women. To a
shopping addict trips to the mall become the main way to cope with stress, even when it is having a
negative impact on the rest of their life. The addiction will affect their relationships and finances.
(Omniomania: Shopping Addiction, 2010) It is a never ending merry go round; the stress from
relationships and finances just reinforces the urge to shop more in order to feel better.
Treatment for this addiction usually starts with financial counseling. The shopper is usually in denial
as to the amount of debt and or effect they shopping has had on their life and they need see it in paper
and admit to having a problem before any kind of counseling or therapy will work.
Gambling addiction also know as compulsive gambling is a type of impulse control disorder.

The Fraud Triangle Consists Of Three Different Parts
In life, there are many times someone sees an opportunity that can better a situation in their life.
Whether morally right or wrong some still take the action to better their life even if it can potentially
be considered fraud. People tend to find ways to look past their morals. These situations can be
something so small as not splitting the tips at your job evenly, fixing an old gambling debt, even
cheating on your taxes. Some even take it as far as creating a fake business to receive money from
people or steal money coming into an already existent company. These opportunities are everywhere
we look. There are not many people in the world who would give up an opportunity to better a
situation in their life. The question is just how far are they willing to go and for what are they
receiving in the end. Most of these situations, if not all can be analyzed through the fraud triangle. The
fraud triangle consists of three different parts. The first part would be the perceived financial need or
the pressure upon the person. This could be caused by the person situation where they may be in need,
or possibly someone in their life pushing them to do the act. It could also be something as simple as a
want that they feel they should go after no matter what it takes or the cost. This will lead into step two
of the fraud triangle which is perceived opportunity or, in other words, the opportunity to commit the
fraud. This is what they do to actually do the crime. How they go about

Women sacrifice as much as men, for example after giving birth they make impressive efforts to come
back to competitive levels while men have not been said to make any of these such efforts. This leads
to another point on how women actually have the ability to do things most men can t. For example,
men don t have the proper body types to perform in figure skating, synchronized swimming, or
gymnastics like women can. The competitiveness is the same. The quality and skill levels are the
same. Different, of course, but not inferior in any way (Ottoway). Even if a female was better than a
male at a certain sport they would still be treated as inferior. For example a female hockey player,
Rachel Fradette states, even if I was a better athlete than the male hockey players, my team still got
the worse ice time and treated as almost a joke when we practiced...women not only have to fight for
their stance, but they also have to be the absolute best at their craft (Fradette). When girls get treated
this way they then start to lose the love of the sport which leads to less and less role models and less
successful female athletes. These female athlete role models are important for future generations as
girls decide to also become athletes they want someone to look up to and learn from and realize to not
give up even if they are treated

Rhetorical Devices In Angelina Jolie Speech
In 2009 on World Refugee Day, Angelina Jolie made a speech about Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan.
Pakistan holds many refugees from Afghanistan who have fled their home country because of the
political and religious conflict there, such as Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Jolie has made multiple
expeditions to Pakistan to help aid these refugees. In her speech, Angelina Jolie uses repetition,
anecdote, and historical allusion to create an emotional appeal and persuade Americans to help
refugees in need.

After telling the anecdote of the women and two children who gave Jolie the last of their drink, she
says, Since before the parable of the Widow s Mite it has been known that those who have the least
will give the most (Jolie 3). The parable of the Widow s Mite tells of a poor widow who gives
everything she had for God. By alluding to the Widow s Mite, Jolie once again reflects upon the
generosity of refugees and those who are in need. By making those listening to her speech once again
think about the generosity of the women giving the last of their drink supplies away, Angelina Jolie
creates a emotional appeal. Jolie uses historical allusion again when she compares what s happening to
the refugees in Pakistan to other situations in the Middle East. Jolie says, Whether it be Darfur,
Myanmar, or Swat Valley, or some as yet unknown crises, mass migrations will be a feature of our
future... (Jolie 5). The allusion to the genocide taking place in Darfur, the displacement of over
139,000 people in Myanmar, and the Malala shooting in Swat Valley gives examples of other times
people like the Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan have been displaced from their homes. Many of those
listening to Angelina Jolie s speech are familiar with the events that she alludes to and have felt
sympathy or even helped those people affected by those situations. By alluding to those events and
comparing what is happening in Pakistan to those events, Jolie creates an emotional appeal to those
listening to her speech by making them feel the same sympathy they felt for those who were affected
by the events she alludes to. Because of the sympathy they now feel for Afghan refugees, listeners are

Prince Qualities
The Qualities of the Prince, written by Niccolo Machiavelli, is one of his most celebrated works
(Prince 219). Machiavelli s work includes two contrasting forces called luck and character. When
Machiavelli mentions luck, he means one s fortune, chance, or fate. Machiavelli also includes
character; one s virtues or life values. Machiavelli writes about how a Prince should be. Many princes
are considered extremely virtuous or extremely cruel: one cruel, another merciful; one treacherous,
another faithful; one effeminate and cowardly, another bold and courageous; one humane, another
haughty; one lascivious, another chaste; one trustworthy, another cunning; one harsh, another lenient;
one serious, another frivolous; one religious, another unbelieving; and the like? (Prince 224) Should a
prince be nice and caring or evil and cruel? This question is what Machiavelli answers through his
writing. Machiavelli believes that a prince should know everything there is about war and needs to be
prepared for an attack at any given time, even if a nation is in a time of peace. Machiavelli proclaims
that a prince should know his own country because he needs to know how to better defend it. This is
an exceptional point because, if a prince does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Implementing A Comprehensive Audit Plan Essay
Abstract
This paper will discuss the hot topics in emerging issues that was discussed in previous assignments.
Several companies can benefit from finding ways to implement a comprehensive audit plan to reduce
the likelihood of fraud occurring. Ideas associated with the SDLC and how to create phases that will
fall in line with this execution are also detailed in this assignment. The SDLC assists in reducing fraud
and cannot be applied lightly; this plan makes the process of fraud prevention and detection easier to
succumb. Updating policies and procedures is an ongoing process that cannot go unkempt.
Establishing a Comprehensive Audit Plan
The acronym SDLC is explained as a software development lifecycle. The phases of the SDLC
include analysis and definition phases, where the purpose should be determined, the goals that need to
be accomplished, and a set of definite requirements. Establishing a comprehensive audit plan is
integral in fulfilling the successful and quality financials for a business. This should be done at the
inception of creating the company as well as routinely checked on a consistent basis. This used in
accordance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act will guarantee that the company has a sure way to mitigate
the fraud opportunity that may occur during the time of day to day operations (Strayer University
2013).
A fraud detection plan will provide the blueprint for a healthy environment in the aspect of protecting
the company and its assets. The plan will give a

Causes Of The Old Regime And The French Revolution
In the Old Regime and the French Revolution, by Alexis de Tocqueville, he detailed the ways in which
the French nation was corrupt and how these led to the chaos of the French Revolution. Among the
causes Alexis de Tocqueville listed, the feudal system s corruption was the root of the French
revolution s turmoil. This feudal system was certain to lead to a revolution because of the anger it was
creating among the peasants. In a document written by Abbe Sieyes, What is the Third Estate, it is
revealed that the peasants were being exploited, as they were doing all of the work for the nation,
while receiving nothing in return from their nobles who had promised to protect them but weren t, and
still obtained all of the power. The citizens of the third estate, including the peasants realized that this
system was unjust and began the anarchic French revolution.
The people of the third estate had finally come to realize the corruption of the feudal system, so they
created the National Assembly. The creation of the National Assembly by the third estate, wreaked
havoc among the French nation and marked the beginning of the French Revolution because the third
estate had no legal right to act as the National Assembly. The members of the National Assembly
wanted to reform the government by writing a new constitution and destroying the old regime, so
taxation could be less for them because they ultimately did everything for the nation. By 1799, there
had been five different

  • 2. Sarah-Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper Sarah Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper 5/9/18 Final Paper The two behavioral concepts I recognized in the DeWaal paper were true altruism and empathy. Altruism is defined as altruism without obvious advantages for the actor (DeWaal). Reciprocal altruism is the act of giving aid or preforming an act of kindness in order to receive delayed benefits or even immediate benefits (Lecture 23: Empathy and Altruism). In order to participate in altruistic acts the species must have empathy. Empathy is important because in order to perform these acts of kindness one has to understand the emotion of another and be able to imagine what someone else is going through. Dewaal discusses how altruism in animals must stem from something other than actions with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, he allowed his new friend to protect him and help him ward off competition when it came to eating. Because geese mate for life the tortoise was lucky enough to find a companion and protection. It can t be determined if the tortoise understood the actions of the goose. I choose this example because it lacks the feel good feeling or helping someone in need of aid. I do not see examples of empathetic behavior in this scenario. Another relationship that was less altruistic was the dog and the cheetah. This is because they never performed beneficial acts at their expense in order to help each other. They had companionship built over many years no doubt, but they appeared more like orphaned siblings who have developed their own ways of communication and no true acts of altruism or reciprocal altruism were demonstrated. As outlined previously, acts of altruism require the actor to have self awareness and the ability to have empathy for another. I think it is because Atlas the Gibbon and the Capuchin troop are cultural close and their forms of communication and playfulness allow them to understand each other altruism and empathy are easiest to spot in their ... • 3. The Lost Boys And The Pirates Of Neverland All children, except one, grow up (Barrie 69). Right at the start of Peter and Wendy, J.M. Barrie points out that childhood always comes to an end, that is for most people. Barrie uses characters Wendy, a very mature and mother like figure for an adolescent girl, and Peter, a lively and stereotypical childlike boy, as foils to each other. Wendy, at the age of two, realizes her childhood will come to an end, but Peter never faces that reality. Mr. and Mrs. Darling and the pirates of Neverland are the depicted adults throughout Peter and Wendy. The Lost Boys and Peter exhibit what happens when a child lives without an adult. Although the children survive on their own, they still feel the need to bring Wendy to Neverland to become their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, once Wendy does kiss Peter, Peter suggests she follows him to Neverland, because the lost boys are rather lonely and have no female companion (Barrie 95). The relationship between these two characters represents the need of men and women in each other s lives. The novel s climax begins when Wendy, a preteen girl, is taken into Neverland to become a mother to the Lost Boys. Following gender stereotypes, when Wendy is introduced to Peter, she fixes his lost shadow, by sewing it back for him. At first, Peter attempts to take credit for Wendy s work, but he realizes that has upset Wendy. Then Peter responds to her kindness by saying, Wendy, one girl is more use than twenty boys (Barrie 91). This statement by Peter is very surprising to both Wendy and the reader. According to stereotypes, especially during the early 20th century, women typically need men, but in this situation, Peter admits the need of women to men, especially young boys. This is due to the fact that none of the Lost Boys have a family, especially a mother, to look out for them. Peter admits that the Lost Boys are in need of parental guidance, and Wendy then follows Peter back to Neverland to become the boys mother, something all children evidently need. It becomes very clear that the Lost Boys need a parental figure, whether it be Wendy or someone else. Even before Wendy arrives, the evil pirates attempt to set a trap on ... • 4. Film Analysis Of The Breakfast Club Joohyun Cho Introduction to Psychology Film Analysis of The Breakfast Club Introduction The film The Breakfast Club was directed and written by John Hughes and was released in the year 1985 (IMDB, 2016). The film s running time is 95 minutes and can be categorized under the genre of comedy and drama. It follows five teenagers, who all vary in personality and stereotype, get stuck in detention on a Saturday morning. They are all different types of people in nature but when stripped down and seen through without a stereotypical lens, they all have something to share and have something in common amongst themselves despite being so different from each other. In the movie, they are stereotyped as, a basket case, a brain, an athlete, a princess, and a criminal (IMDB, 2016). The setting takes place in a library and whilst they are in detention, they go through varying phases. They start off with solitude, then proceed to share a few words, and later into the film they start to disclose information about themselves that normally would be very difficult to disclose. While they are in the library they start off as complete strangers and barely talk to each other. As the movie progresses, they start doing a lot of things that a normal group of friends would do such as dancing, playing music, sneaking out together, and even smoking a joint together. The main issue that the movie raises is the idea that being subjected to peer pressure and malicious parenting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison When a business decides to venture internationally into different countries with its products, services, and operations, it is very important that the company gains an understanding of how the culture of the different societies affects the values found in those societies. Geert Hofstede conducted one of the most famous and most used studies on how culture relates to values. Hofstede study enabled him to compare dimensions of culture across 40 countries. He originally isolated four dimensions of what he claimed summarized different cultures power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism versus collectivism, and masculinity versus femininity (Hill, 2013, p.110). To cover aspects of values not discussed in the original paradigm Hofstede has since added two more dimensions Confucianism or long term orientation and indulgence versus self restraint (Hofstede, n.d.). Because of the way Hofstede s cultural dimensions are given an index score from 0 100, it is easy for a company to get a general comparison between the cultures they are expanding into and the culture they are already in. United States versus France For example, if a company based in the United States were going to expand into France, the company could use Hofstede s 6 cultural dimensions to get a general look at the differences between the two. Then out of those differences, the company could see what approaches may or may not work, or what they may need to change, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Whatcom Fall Park Gasoline Pipeline Explosion On June 10th, 1999 a gasoline pipeline ruptured in Whatcom Falls Park. This park is located in Bellingham, Washington where the pipeline was controlled by the Olympic Pipeline Company. This break in the gasoline pipeline let over a million liters of gasoline flow into a nearby river in the park. After about an hour and a half the gasoline in the river ignited and caught on fire. The fire burnt along the river for one and a half miles. As a result of the gasoline catching on fire, three people were killed with another eight people injured. It has been estimated that total damages to property reach as high as 45 million dollars. This pipeline explosion was a horrible disaster that could have been avoided for a variety of reasons. There are multiple important people and organizations involved with this gasoline pipeline explosion. The most important would be the Olympic Pipeline Company itself. The Olympic Pipeline Company is operated by BP Pipelines. BP Pipelines is the second largest pipeline company in the United States. There were a few important employees involved in this case that worked for Olympic. There were the inspectors of the gasoline pipeline, which were to inspect the pipeline s mechanics. Also, there were the employees who were responsible for installing a pressure relief system that did not work. • 7. Cell Phone Safety And Safety Cell phones have been a major part of everyday life by helping people connect with each other instantaneously. Even though cell phones and their benefits are easy to recognize, the safety of cell phone use has been debated because of the safety of the cell phone radiation. The safety of cell phone radiation that is emitted from cell phones is a controversial topics, debating claims such as whether it has a correlation with cancer or tumors, if children are affected by it more than adults are, and by whether or not it is safe cannot be decided because of how recent the adoption of cell phones are (procon.org). One large debate in the topic of cell phone safety, and the safety of the radiation that is emitted from cell phones, is whether or not it can cause cancer. The radiation emitted from cell phones is a radiofrequency electromagnetic field, and is the controversial topic at hand. Some believe that cell phone radiation cannot cause cancer of any kind. The argument here is that the cell phone radiation that is emitted from cell phones in not powerful enough to cause cancer, while others believe that it still could. The radiation emitted from cell phones is argued to be non ionizing, which means that it produces molecules called ions that have either too many or too few electrons. The imbalance in ions is what is blamed for the development of cancer. Even though the argument could be true, there is no credit or no support for how the conclusion of this argument, that cell phone radiation is non ionizing, has been found (qtd. in procon.org pro 2). On the contrary, a study was conducted by the IARC, or the International Agency for Research on Cancer, that labeled cell phone radiation as a possible carcinogen. The study was conducted by 31 scientists, and concluded that the radiofrequency electromagnetic field that cell phones, radios, and televisions emit are group 2B carcinogens, which are possibly carcinogenic to humans. This study provides more sound evidence than the other side of the argument because it gives credibility to the argument by citing research that was completed by an institution (qtd. in procon.org con 6). The opposite viewpoint states that there are not any government agencies in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Colgate Palmolive should more focus on distribution of toothpaste in dentists offices. Colgate Palmolive should focus more strongly on other retail locations, even it adapted intensive distribution there is still scope of other retail location where small unknown brand capture the market share. Colgate could direct market the toothpaste by sending special coupons in the mail to consumers, or by offering rebates to consumers who purchase other Colgate Palmolive oral care products. The toothpaste could be distributed through plastic surgeons because many people who visit a plastic surgeon are concerned about their appearance, and would likely consider the different options available to them that will enhance their appearance, such as their teeth. It could be distributed through make up departments because most people who shop for make up at large department stores are also concerned with looking their best. Type of Dystopian control in the Hunger Games It is usual, for dystopian fiction, to incorporate some kind of societal control, which is oppressive in nature and the main purpose for which it is used is, to keep public under control. The Hunger Games presents the technological control in which a society is basically controlled by technology through robots, computers, surveillance and/or scientific means. The specialists designed the arena through computers and other complicated softwares. • 10. Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of reaction or the enthalpy of reaction (ΔHr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of neutralization when an acid and a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its temperature 1∘Celsius). We are going to pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter. Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in Kilojoules. Materials: Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to transfer liquids Paper cups Procedure: Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the calorimeter. Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated cylinder with some tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Completely dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial temperature of acid. 27.8∘C Rinse the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure the initial temperature of the base 28.2∘C Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter being careful not to splash any acid on the upper sides of the calorimeter. They did not want to risk the lives of innocent people by making an attack at the court during working hours. That led to the passing of a few more days, and finally they decided that Kingsford had to be attacked either during his ride from his house to the club, or vice versa, when he would be alone. During this time, the two of them wrote to one of their mentors, Barindra Kumar Ghosh, the eminent revolutionary and the younger brother of Sri Aurobindo, whenever they needed money, addressing the Barindra with the code name Sukumar for safety. to assassinate Kingsford, the Calcutta Presidency Magistrate, and later, magistrate of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Throughout her life, Pauli Murray s Christian faith served as a comforting source of spiritual nourishment and an abiding force of religious guidance. Murray s life mission of social equality and racial justice for all led her to cofound the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in 1942. Her ethical example and sermons offer critical insight as a future where America shines as a beacon of hope for a more inclusive and democratic society. During her tenure as priest of St. Titus Episcopal Church in Durham, North Carolina, Murray had a strong sense of what preached and what was appropriate in the pulpit. A sermon, in her Episcopalian context, was never more than fifteen minutes and never the central thing. She was there to ask herself and help others discern what it meant to follow Christ in the modern world. That was King s question, as Murray emphasized. • 13. Dbq Middle Passage Middle Passage Reflection Essay Triangular trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas spurred economic growth, increased intercontinental diversity, and was a prime example of a globalizing world. It also spread and exacerbated the brutal and inhumane practice of slavery to the Americas, where it took root and became a cornerstone of the American way of life for years. The middle passage between West Africa and the West Indies was a voyage of misery, pain, and illness for the slaves being shipped, and while their misery does not compare with that of the enslaved, the journey was not pleasant for the white crew either. Conditions on slave ships were miserable, and disease spread through the close quarters like wildfire. Document B starts to explain the massive impact that disease had on ship dwellers. The document begins by simply stating the death count on an average voyage from the first day when they buried 14 to the last when the death count totaled 320. Due to these atrocious conditions, many slaves decided that death would be better than continued misery and attempted to starve themselves. • 14. The Importance Of The Bronze Age Collapse Between 1,250 and 1,150 B.C.E, there were many factors that contributed to the Bronze Age Collapse, allowing the area near the Fertile Crescent and throughout the Mediterranean to transition into the Iron Age. Not only does the emerging Iron Age bring about the development of advancing technologies and discoveries, but it also provides opportunities for new societies to replace the fallen civilizations. Understanding the strengths of these rising societies can reveal what it took to be successful in the context of this time and place. Similarly, looking at the cultures of these empires can point out the importance of this period, in the way that religious, social, and political elements are carried on, preserved, and remain relevant in an entirely new environment. The combination of technological, environmental, political, military, and economic elements worked together to prompt the Bronze Age Collapse and eventually the downfall of the Hittite and Egyptian Empires. One of the more obvious characteristics differentiating the Bronze and Iron Ages is the sort of metal being most commonly used to construct technologies such as various weapons and tools, as the respective names imply. Historians believe that long periods of drought in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the area of the Fertile Crescent, along with destructive seismic activity near ancient Greece, led to damage to places of agricultural importance. What the mobsters do not know is that Owen has a diagnosed behavioral problem. Aggression. The trauma we act out is guided our place in ideological systems. Gender interprets our trauma in terms of weakness and power. Masculinity teaches trains boys that manliness is defined by toleration of pain. Scholars characterize conspiracy theories as attempts to explain the ultimate cause of an event[,]usually one that is political or social[,] as a secret ploy by a covert alliance of powerful individuals or organizations (Douglas The Hidden ). Diana, the Princess of Wales, married into royalty by marrying Prince Charles, the son of the Queen of England. On August 31, 1997 Princess Diana was killed . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every year since her death, new conspiracies have been shared around the world, and many books have been written. A popular theory is that the army killed Diana. The theory suggests that on the night of August 31, 1997 ¨just after the black Mercedes that was carrying Diana and Dodi Fayed entered Paris winding tunnel a black motorbike and two cars (one dark and one white) entered the underpass in a tight formation (Engleheart 30). The theory states that the one of the cars nudged the mercedes off course and then used a blinding strobe light to cause the car to crash into a pillar of the tunnel (Engleheart 30). It then goes on explaining that one of the drivers of the bike raised his/her arms into an x formation, the military signal for mission accomplished (Engleheart 30). This conspiracy is very similar to the events that occurred on that night, making it a very believable theory to some. Many believe it was the doing of the Increment (30), who are the secret service of the United Kingdom; they believe that the group planned an assassination of the unruly princess of Wales (Engleheart 31). This theory is a completely made up account of the tragedy. No vehicles were caught on the security cameras that matched the descriptions of those in the theory (Engleheart 31). Also, Diana and Fayed were not the only passengers in the tunnel, paparazzi had been following along; so the paparazzi would have been affected by the strobe light also (Dickey Night ). This making it very hard to believe that this theory could be what actually occurred. They named her Jeanne d Arc, also known as Joan of Arc. They lived in a village called Domremy on the border of eastern France. During the time of Joan s birth, the French and English had a truce. But events coming soon, will determine the life and death of Joan of Arc. An internal war had erupted between two factions of the French Royal family which in turn, would make it easier for the English to invade once again. One side of the faction was called the Orleanist or Armagnac faction which was led by Count Bernard VII and Duke Charles of Orleans. Their rivals were known as the Burgundians who were led by Duke John the fearless of Burgundy. While the French remained divided due to their factions at war, the diplomats failed to extend the treaty with England that was in place. In August of 1415, King Henry V invaded France and then defeated an Armagnac dominated French army battle of Agincourt on October 25th. In 1417, the English returned, conquering most of northern France and gaining the support of the Burgundian Duke, Philip II. Philip II had agreed to recognize Henry V as the legal heir to the French throne, yet rejected the rival claim of Charles of Ponthieu, which was the last heir of the Valois dynasty that had ruled France since 1328. Often we are left with secondary, and sometimes very biased, accounts of how individuals conducted themselves in various situations in their lives. But luckily, we are sometimes left with vivid sources penned by figures themselves, and that is what we have with Napoleon s letters. Through them we can hope to gain a better and more well rounded look into the life one of the most loved, and reviled, men in recent history. To begin, let us take a look at Napoleon s letters to his immediate family. Letter 71 is addressed to his sister Pauline, who in 1803 had married into an Italian nobleman s family. In this letter, Napoleon expresses his love for his sister, and wishes her nothing but happiness, showing a tender and brotherly side not often associated with the conquering emperor. But this letter is also no simple social call, but a request that his sister make herself known and appreciated as a socialite in the city of Rome, seat of the Papal States. This is a shrewd and clever move on his part, displaying an understanding of the delicacies of statesmanship and foreign opinion. In letter 109, a brief note penned in 1806 to his sister Elisa, Napoleon urges her to only allow dresses of silk and batiste to be worn at the court of her husband in Italy. There may be other bears in the arctic, but the polar bear is the largest land carnivore in the wilderness. The polar bear may look like any other bear, but they are different. Now since the ice caps are melting the polar bear are in great threat of going extinct. The taxonomic group that the polar bear falls under is the Ursidae Group( Tanya Dewey and Phil Myers). Bears inhabit the world all except Australia and Antarctica. Although, they are all in the same group they have different characteristics and different habitats. The Ursidae Group can affect their habitats in good ways and bad ways. The polar bear can hinder the population of breeding seals and elk which is a bad thing, but the brown bear can spread seeds around in their feces(Tanya Dewey and Phil Myers). But, without them other species would overpopulate the world. Each bear in the Ursidae Group is unique, but they all share a lot in common. Bears are strong animals that vary in sizes, but they all have the same strength. They can range from twenty five to sixty five kilograms or up to eight hundred kilograms(Tanya Dewey and Phil Myers). In the wild it is most common for the males to be larger than their female counterparts, sometimes you could run across a male that is twice the size of the female. By definition, feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of gender equality, which in this day and age, seems a reasonable thing to expect from society. However, when the concept of feminism first became a growingly popular concept in the 18th century, feminism was an extremely controversial idea, met with disapproval and trepidation. Most people were frightened to break away from their social traditions and allow the importance and validity of women to be recognised, and so sparked the revolutionary Suffragette movement. This paper will aim to bring a greater understanding of the controversial uprising, and to bring awareness as to how it won women the right to vote and how it continues to change the world for the better. Whether morally right or wrong some still take the action to better their life even if it can potentially be considered fraud. People tend to find ways to look past their morals. These situations can be something so small as not splitting the tips at your job evenly, fixing an old gambling debt, even cheating on your taxes. Some even take it as far as creating a fake business to receive money from people or steal money coming into an already existent company. These opportunities are everywhere we look. There are not many people in the world who would give up an opportunity to better a situation in their life. This could be caused by the person situation where they may be in need, or possibly someone in their life pushing them to do the act. • 33. Prince Qualities The Qualities of the Prince, written by Niccolo Machiavelli, is one of his most celebrated works (Prince 219). Machiavelli s work includes two contrasting forces called luck and character. When Machiavelli mentions luck, he means one s fortune, chance, or fate. Machiavelli also includes character; one s virtues or life values. Machiavelli writes about how a Prince should be. Many princes are considered extremely virtuous or extremely cruel: one cruel, another merciful; one treacherous, another faithful; one effeminate and cowardly, another bold and courageous; one humane, another haughty; one lascivious, another chaste; one trustworthy, another cunning; one harsh, another lenient; one serious, another frivolous; one religious, another unbelieving; and the like? (Prince 224) Should a prince be nice and caring or evil and cruel? This question is what Machiavelli answers through his writing. Machiavelli believes that a prince should know everything there is about war and needs to be prepared for an attack at any given time, even if a nation is in a time of peace. Machiavelli proclaims that a prince should know his own country because he needs to know how to better defend it. This is an exceptional point because, if a prince does not ... There is no way that I could be a prince because this would be my biggest fall. I care too much for people. This problem has two sides to it; if a prince is too feared things will get bad, which means that people will begin to rebel and cause riots. At this point a prince can be overthrown by the people. If the military does not fear him, they could also rebel. So, a prince must be somewhat tough on the military so they will not attempt to overthrow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Who Is A Father Figure In Death Of A Salesman The importance of a strong father figure in a family can sometimes be overlooked. Kids, and especially boys, idolize their father throughout their younger and even into their adult life. Children take anything that their father says as truth and see what they do as the only way to live. In Death of a Salesman Arthur Miller portrays how the absence of a father taking on the role of raising his children can affect the children for the rest of their life. Willy Loman, the father of Biff and Happy Lowman, is an example of the lasting effect you can have on your children when avoiding the responsibility of raising them. Willy spends his life pursuing the American Dream. He exhaust himself in trying to gain fame and fortune, putting off being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. Causes Of The Old Regime And The French Revolution In the Old Regime and the French Revolution, by Alexis de Tocqueville, he detailed the ways in which the French nation was corrupt and how these led to the chaos of the French Revolution. Among the causes Alexis de Tocqueville listed, the feudal system s corruption was the root of the French revolution s turmoil. This feudal system was certain to lead to a revolution because of the anger it was creating among the peasants. In a document written by Abbe Sieyes, What is the Third Estate, it is revealed that the peasants were being exploited, as they were doing all of the work for the nation, while receiving nothing in return from their nobles who had promised to protect them but weren t, and still obtained all of the power. The citizens of the third estate, including the peasants realized that this system was unjust and began the anarchic French revolution. The people of the third estate had finally come to realize the corruption of the feudal system, so they created the National Assembly. The creation of the National Assembly by the third estate, wreaked havoc among the French nation and marked the beginning of the French Revolution because the third estate had no legal right to act as the National Assembly.
