Essay For Death Penalty
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay for Death Penalty" can be a challenging and thought-
provoking task. The death penalty is a complex and controversial subject that elicits strong
opinions from individuals on both sides of the debate. Crafting an essay on this topic requires a
careful examination of various perspectives, legal considerations, ethical concerns, and statistical
data.
One of the difficulties lies in navigating through the intricate web of arguments surrounding the
death penalty. On one hand, proponents argue for its deterrent effect, justice for victims, and the
importance of retribution. On the other hand, opponents emphasize the risk of executing
innocent individuals, ethical considerations, and the possibility of discriminatory application.
Researching and presenting accurate information is crucial, as the death penalty is a deeply
emotional and polarizing issue. Addressing counterarguments effectively while maintaining a
clear and coherent narrative can be challenging. Furthermore, understanding the historical
context, legal frameworks, and international perspectives adds layers of complexity to the task.
Additionally, the emotional weight associated with the topic requires a nuanced approach to
engage the reader's empathy and understanding. Balancing the need for facts and emotional
appeal is a delicate task, making the writing process even more demanding.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the death penalty demands careful research, critical thinking,
and a nuanced understanding of various perspectives. It is a task that requires sensitivity to
ethical considerations and the ability to present a well-constructed argument. For those seeking
assistance in navigating the intricacies of such topics, it's worth noting that similar essays and a
variety of academic writing services can be explored on platforms like HelpWriting.net.

Immersion Stage Of Racial Identity Development
We got into an interesting discussion about the Tatum article. What are your thoughts
on the stages and where do you see yourself in these charts? Think critically and not
only in the Black/White binary.
I think that the stages of racial identity development are incredibly interesting because
openly acknowledging them has the potential to make people extremely
uncomfortable. Yet, I also experience mixed feelings towards them because they fail
to account for identities that fall outside of the racial binary.
For example, as a biracial woman, it is nearly impossible to entirely limit myself to
one of these charts. Last year, as a freshman taking courses such as African American
Studies and Race Literary Texts, my naГЇve bubble was popped and I was thrown
into a world wherein social constructions and racialization were inescapable
realities. As a result, I began to limit myself to the types of shows I watched, the
music I listened to, the viewpoints I held, and the parties I attended all of which
exclusively involved people of color. In hindsight, I now recognize this time as my
experience in the Immersion stage of Black identity development (Tatum, 1992, p.
11). Yet, the privilege I experience as a result of being half white also allowed for
my ignorance of these oppressive realities, so it can be argued that I was additionally
experiencing Helms Pseudo Independent stage (Tatum, 1992, p. 16). At this point in
time, I would like to see myself at the
Psychological Aspects Of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
In this paper I look at psychological aspects within the study of willpower which can
be used to improve and strengthen existing cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.
I m specifically interested in applying empirically supported self control concepts
which will serve to fortify the willpower of patients and make the therapy more
effective overall. First I will cover the basic foundations of cognitive behavioral
therapy, then I will give several examples of relevant willpower constructs, establish
their basis in psychological research, and highlight their potential applications to
CBT. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a class of psychotherapy which involves self
monitoring of how we individually think and how our thoughts ultimately affect our
feelings and behavior. This monitoring is used to illuminate certain maladaptive,
irrational, and biased beliefs in order to lessen their negative, possibly recursive effect
on behavior stemming from emotions like anger, anxiety and depression. During
therapy, counselors work with clients to give insight on their patterns of thinking,
identify flawed connections, and address them using examples of empirical evidence
and logic.
Research has shown that people who are past focused have higher satisfaction but
lower motivation about their goals, while people who are future focused have lower
satisfaction but higher motivation toward their goals. In a study by Dr. Ayelet

Disruption Of The Body s Circadian Clock
The circadian clock in humans has influence over many processes in the body. The
most prevalent of those arguably is its determination of our sleep and wake cycles
(Joseph et al. 2008). Sufficient sleep is an essential part of human health and a
lack of sleep can have severe repercussions on the human body and mind (Hamet
and Tremblay 2006). Disruption of the body s circadian cycle, by genetic means,
can cause: ineffective homeostasis of the sleep cycle, imbalances in the amounts
of time spent awake and asleep, and the timing of sleep s onset, all of which can
contribute to dangerous sleep related disorders (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). (Joseph
et al. 2008) states that he circadian clock is composed of a 24 hour cycle called a

The disorders discussed, FASPS, FFI, and narcolepsy, are examples of how single
gene mutations can completely off put the body s circadian rhythms (Borbley et
al.1999; Joseph et al. 2008). Additionally, these disorders support the main concept
that the master of homeostatic balance in our body s sleep cycle is the clock gene,
and that even the smallest of changes on the molecular level can result in significant
changes in physiological out put (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). Complete human
health is reliant on sleep, and sleep is reliant on the clock

ACC: Advanced Auditing
Outside auditors play a crucial role in our nation s financial system. As the watchdogs
of corporate accounting, they are supposed to protect investors (Hilzenrath, 2010).
The question is how effective are these outside auditors in protecting investors? When
you think about the failures that have occurred: Enron, WorldCom, Adelphia, Tyco,
and Global crossing to name a few, one would really question the effectiveness of
these outside auditors. As a result of these failures, Congress pass the Sarbanes Oxley
Act of 2002. This act in turn created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board
(PCAOB) to police the outside auditors and ensures they are protecting the investors.

There were multiple risk factors present in the Nextcard Inc. case. Thomas
Trauger, auditor, had authorized an unqualified opinion on Nextcard s 2000
financial statements although the evidence did not justify an unqualified opinion.
Nextcard had huge operating losses and had been reporting much smaller
allowances for bad debts than they had been observing. Their management
regularly made material understatements of the company s allowance for credit
losses. Also most of the financial decisions rested solely in the hands of Jeremy
Lent, Chief Financial Officer. Another risk factor was the fact that the executives
had large amounts of stock and immediately sold them after the lock down from
the initial public offering was made. Events from 2000 that were notable include
the following: * During 2000, more than $1 billion of credit was issued to
customers but it did not translate to immediate profits and this fact was
downplayed to the media and ignored in public disclosures. * In February 2000
Nextcard announced they continued to beat aggressive growth targets and boasted
an average of $2000 per account. They omitted the fact that in 1999 they had a loss
of $77.2 million. * Insider trading Lent and other colleagues sold large amounts of
stock after the lock up period had passed. They took the company public knowing
about the large losses.

Genie Play Monologue
In my younger years I was highly involved in show choir and school productions.
Any way I could get on stage and strut my stuff I would take it. My sixth grade year
of elementary school, the year before I would make the massive leap into middle
school, I decided I would perform in my final production. The play was Aladdin
and I had my eye on the role for the Genie and I wanted this role so much. I
practiced this role day and night from singing to dancing to even some impressions
anything that would ensure my little mind that I would get the part. A week and
half goes by and it s time for tryouts and I was beyond nervous. Anytime someone
even mention the tryouts my body would tremble and quake. I didn t know why I
was so nervous I mean I had
Assisi s Franciscan Values
Quincy University is based on set of Franciscan values that define the school and
its teachings. These values here at QU were based on St. Francis of Assisi himself.
St. Francis of Assisi looked at the world in a different light than many people of his
time did. Even though Assisi s values are apart of Quincy Universitymany students
still do not fully understand his teachings, his writings, his ways of life, and the
order he created. St. Francis was a very interesting man, which led a very interesting
lifestyle that many people were not fond of. Everyone has their own opinions about
St. Francis of Assisi, some believe that he was crazy and others believe he might
have been a scholar. Assisi might have had a different way of life than others,... Show

Francis of Assisi was able to create an order for his followers, he was also able to
come up with a set of Franciscan values. These values are important to the way that
he believed led the best life. Five of the most important Franciscan values to me are
service, peace and reconciliation, creation, transformation, and inclusion. Service
is not only giving, but it is also about receiving. When volunteering your service
you are helping other, and you are learning more about yourself at the same time.
St Francis of Assisi lived in poverty so he could love and care for everyone. St.
Francis was always helping out people out of the kindness of his heart; he never
expected any service or money in return. Peace and reconciliation is also another
important value that Francis believed in. Peace and reconciliation means that if I
hurt someone I should ask for forgiveness, but if someone hurts me I should be
able to forgive them. St Francis of Assisi lived by these words knowing that he
wanted to live in peace with all and to be reconciled to all. Next, Francis believed
in and loved all things created. Francis believed that creation is a reflection of God s
goodness and beauty, which led him to believe all humans are members of the same
family. Understanding creation allows for us to understand each other and all of
creation better. The value of transformation is the way of growing, creating or
destroying. Transformation allows us to encounter new thoughts, people, a

Michael s Story: I get into so much trouble just by walking : Narrative Knowing and
Life at the Intersections of Learning Disability, Race, and Class
Introduction
The purpose of the article s introduction is to highlight the challenges that students
from minority go through in special education schools. Linking his personal
experiences as a former special educator, Connor strives to explore the intersection of
learning disability, race, and class. The author collected data by conducting
interviews with a participant researcher to get his side of the story. Connor planned
to compare his LDs experiences with his own.
Valuing Narrative
Connor opted to use a narrative as a means of expression since most people
understand issues better when they are conveyed as a narrated story. Michael, the
participant researcher, narrates the discrimination he went through during his time in
school. Being a student with a learning disability, he was segregated from the other
normal students, and they always taunted him because of his condition. The fact that
he is black, physically challenged and comes from a working class background
makes him feel less entitled to receiving a decent college education (Connor, 2006).
His situation that even in the education sector, the playing field is not fair as far as
minority groups are concerned.
Choosing poetry

Police Officers And Police Enforcement Officers Essay
Law enforcement officers are authorized to use different forces based on its situation.
Officers face many circumstances during the period of their job when use of force is
necessary. For example, making arrests, restraining unruled combatants, and while
controlling disruptive situations. Incidents involving the use of excessive force by
the policefrequently receive media attentions, legislators and sometimes even
criminal courts. To serve better for a community or country a small percentage of
police interactions with citizens involve use of force to server better and protect
others from illegal or criminal minds. NIJ sponsored research explains that police
custody arrests (handcuffing) used less than 20 percent of 7,512 arrests. Even in
those cases police used weaponless techniques like grabbing or holding can be
view as minor types of force statistics on police us of force on citizens. The further
support by the research, it indicates that the incidents contain resistance by
suspects, their injuries resulting from the police use of force were typically
minor. As part of the police force trainings, officers are trained to use force
progressively along a continuum and policy requires that officers use the least
amount of force necessary to accomplish their goals. The use of force typically
occurs when police are trying to make an arrest and the suspect is resisting. And
when injuries occur because of the use of force, they are likely to be minor. This is

Theme Of Guilt In The Reader
The Perpetual Guilt of the Holocaust Displayed by Hanna Schmitz and Michael
Berg in The Reader by Bernhard Schlink The theme of guilt is portrayed by both
Michael Berg and Hanna Schmitz in The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. Hanna has
a lot of guilt for her role in the Holocaust. She also has guilt for what she does to
Michael and because she is illiterate. Michael s guilt stems from what he knows
about Hanna s past and also what Hanna blames him for and pushes onto him
during their relationship. The Holocaust created a web of guilt for those living in
Germany. Many Germans who participated in the war felt a lot of regret and sorrow
for what they had done, but it didn t end there. The children of these people would
have to face a lot of guilt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hanna takes the blame for other crimes to hide her illiteracy and Michael later says
he wishes he had spoken out about it to the judge to help her, but he didn t. When
Hannah is in prison she commits suicide after educating herself about the
legitimate horrors of the war. Her suicide acknowledges her understanding of what
she had done. After Hanna commits suicide Michael asks In the first few years
after Hanna s death, I was tormented by the old questions of whether I denied and
betrayed her, whether I owed her something, whether I was guilty for having loved
her. Sometimes I asked myself if I was responsible for her death. CITE Even after
he no longer had to deal with the guilt he felt because of his past romances with
Hanna, after he knew everything she did in the war, after she confessed
completely and was sent to prison Michael thought he could be the reason she had
ended her life. Michael is the type of person to let people take advantage of his
emotions and his kind personality, usually leaving him feeling guilty and sad. This
develops the allegory of Michael as a symbol of the younger generation of children
in Germany after the war. They faced a lot of guilt trying to cope with what the
generation before them had done, they needed to move past it and still love their
older relatives but it was often hard, as it was hard for Michael to handle knowing

Odyssey And The Trojan War
There are few works of literature that hold as much meaning to the definition of
Greek culture as the two epic poems credited to Homer: the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Both works, albeit more so the Iliad than the Odyssey, serve as the chief source of
information about a pivotal event in Greek history: the Trojan War. Whether this war
happened exactly as it has been narrated is subject to debate, as any answer holds
very little evidence to be supported. However, the Greeks saw the Trojan War as the
first time there was unity within their culture as they all fought for a common goal.
As such, many regarded the Trojan war as an important event in defining the central
values and virtues of Greek culture; they would revisit these epics time and time

Courage Definition Of Courage
The definition of courage is the quality of spirit that allows a person to face
difficulty without fear or doubt. This quality is what drives those who have a
purpose to survive. In the short story The Sniper; By Liam O Flaherty and, in the
excerpt of The Trouble with Geniuses, Part II, By Malcolm Gladwell courage is
displayed as an act of commitment. In the book Outliers, Chris Langan had a knack
for mathematics and philosophy. Many people described him as being gifted. His
younger brother Mark Langan often compared him to Robert Oppenheimer, a
physicist famously known for the development of the nuclear bomb in World War
II. Chris however, did not have the determination to become a famous physicist. He
was kicked out of college more than once for unnecessary reasons and eventually
gave up on his education. The sniper however, was a soldier and did not feardeath. He
used his wits to fool the other sniper and managed to buy time for his escape except
it did not pay off in the end as his brother was his enemy. So, in both stories courage
is brought up as a description and almost like a goal for both characters. This trait is a
prime example of a quality required to overcome adversity in life.
Adversity in one s life can affect many aspects of their personality, with these
obstacles this person could use courage as a path to conquer their own goals. In the
Sniper the main character had been in a lethal situation as he was under fire in a city
in Dublin. But the

They found that women are worst at this, but are also better at selling the clothes

sales, window shopping, outlet visits or browsing the internet shops for ideas,
when not having anything better to do. Instead, prepare a shopping list in advance

reduce impulse buys is; leave the debit cards at home when you are shopping and

Hairtyle Definition
Proportion is the comparative relationship of one thing to another. A well chosen
hairstyle can create the illusion of better proportion. It is essential when designing a
hairstyle to take into account the client s body shape and size. Challenges in body
proportion become more obvious if the hair form is too small or too large. A general
guide for classic proportion is that the hairshould not be wider than the center of the
shoulders, regardless of the body structure.
Proportion is also defined as any portion or part in relation to the whole. No one
certain feature or style produces beauty but rather the relationship or harmony created
when all components come together into a total image. Why does a hairstyle, for

Many have a side of the face that appears heavier. Many have one eye that is
slightly smaller or one flare of the nose that is slightly larger. And so, adaptability
becomes the first design consideration. During your client consultation, take the
time to make notations of the asymmetry to the face. If we design the hair towards
the low side of the face, we will accentuate it. If we duplicate the head form with
either fullness or the lack thereof, we emphasize it. Feel the bones of the head and
take note of the growth patterns in the outer and inner perimeters. Remember that
the outer perimeter creates the strongest influence to the features. Be very careful
about the hair that touches the face. Will it point to an unflattering feature, such as
a pointed nose? If there is a protrusion of the frontal bone, the fringe area will lift
and dry shorter than anticipated. We have found that working with two mirrors is
of tremendous benefit: one for the frontal view and one for the profile. Watch that
you do not accentuate a poor profile with an extension in that area. The mirrors will
tell you things that the eye cannot see directly. In addition, using a haircutting chair
gives the best view of the back and sides of the head because you are looking
directly into them. If you are looking down at the hairline, your vision is altered.

Juxtaposition In Devil In The White City
In Devil in the White City, Erik Larson details the favorable and heinous aspects of
Chicago during the progressive era. The characters in the novel contradicted each
other because of the nickname given for the World Fair White City and the nickname
for Chicago, Black City . Erik Larson effectively conveys in Devil in the White City
through diction, characterization and juxtaposition that although the there are two
contrasting plots, they both left a mark on society and impacted individual s lives.
Throughout the entire novel, Larson uses juxtaposition in many ways to show the
contradicting natures of good and evil in Devil in the White City. An example would
be the title itself. Devil in the White City . The White City is the a nickname... Show

This foreshadows to the audience about his malicious psychopathic personality,
which completely differs from the aura he gives. Larson writes a hidden allusion
to Jack the Ripper in the novel, a famous serial killer in the London area,
comparing the many similarities that H.H. Holmes and Jack the Ripper have in
common. Larson does this in order to compare the two serial killers and to show
the many hidden evils that Holmes is about to reveal in Chicago. Another allusion
towards Holmes was a comparison between him and the Devil. A confession by
Holmes in 1896 said I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I
was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to sing (1). This
confession explains the allusion between him and the Devil, because he mentions
how he can t help the fact that he was a murderer. This allusion alarms many
individuals because the Devil is the evil spirit that brings

ways in which they are able to reflect on their self awareness as one of the key
components between good verses great teachers. I believe a teachers ability to both

The Ideal Trend In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
Ideal happiness within a society varies greatly depending on the time period and
trends that are found influential at the time. During the time the novel, Brave New
World, was published many of the current trends include newly advanced scientific
research that Aldous Huxley heavily used throughout the novel; Huxley is a humanist
horrified by the theories and accomplishments of extremists of his own time, but in
the novel by using contrasting points of view, he makes no explicit statement of his
own position ( Brad Congdon). By putting a vial twist on the current discoveries in
his own time, Huxley displayed the utopian civilization by tugging at fears, people

The Brave New World creates a community that has no reason to ever doubt the
purpose of any of the caste or people in power, ...Each of these events are designed
to evoke a sense of loyalty towards the caste to which the citizen belongs and to the
greater society (Huxley 33). By eliminating the curiosity of each individual s

Late Night Show Satire
Just a few years ago, late night shows were a way for celebrities to promote their
new movie, TV series, or music. The host would just conduct light hearted interviews
and harmless, interactive games. Jimmy Kimmel has had guests read hate tweets;
James Corden has sang karaoke while driving guest stars; Jimmy Fallon has
competed in lip sync battles against guests; SNL has invited guests to temporarily
replace Pandora. Now, instead of simple comedy, some hosts are injecting political
commentary in their news updates and monologues. Over the last year, late night
television ratings have shifted. Fiery shows like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and
The Late Show with Stephen Colberthave seen an influx of viewers; whereas the
apolitical Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon has begun to decline. TV preferences,
show content, and social dynamics have transitioned to be more political,
demonstrating that our society is becoming more tribal, more group oriented. Last

Case Study of Seven-Eleven Japan Company
Supply Chain Management Case study of Seven Eleven Japan Company A.
Background Seven Eleven, a famous convenience store, was established in 1973
and had its first store in Tokyo in May 1974. It was found by Masatoshi Ito while
he thought that superstores were the wave of the future after a trip to the United

much smaller than the United State, compare with the number of stores, there are
13049 stores over the Japan and in United States are 6726. The smaller size of
land, the greater number of stores of Japan means that the density of stores in
Japan is very high, therefore customer can assess to stores more easily. On the

The Simple The Better By Wranke Analysis
The Simple the Better In a place filled of talented people, Italy was the location in
which performance was vital in a rich or important person s life. Wranke s article
explains how important it was to have talent, in Italy, during the renaissance. The
renaissance is known as the rebirth of painting, sculpting, and almost everything we
could possibly think off. During the renaissance, most artist had a common enemy
known as the court, which was ruled by the most wealthy and powerful families in
Italy. The court was in charge of one s position in society. When an individual would
be born in a royal family, that individual was able to experience life to a new level.

The lords preferred having a good time to relax rather than having a piece of art
been done in a complicate way. This lead to the point in which artists preferred to
be ranked together with philosophers, because painters preferred the intellectually
elite status of poets and philosophers... (pg. 28). Even though artists would have had
a poor quality lifestyle, for them it was a lot better than been a buffone because a
buffone was a career that lacked respect. The overall purpose of Warnke s article is
the explanation of the financial status that one could expect as a painter, singer and
buffone, during the renaissance time. The author explains his thesis thoroughly, but
the reader ends with more questions regarding the situation that performers would
have. The struggle of having work and been paid not only for the need of money but
for the social status as an artist. In this article, the point of view is that as an artist in
the category of paint, doing something that was less time consuming would leave an
individual with better life opportunities, rather than an artist doing complex frescos
and putting their soul into

Persuasive Poetry Essay
A large portion of the poems come from the elven race. The poems of the ancient
race create a sense of longing and acceptance of fate, develop motifs of light, water,
and stars, and show racial values of history and the journey across the sea. A
sweeping theme among elven poetry is the sense of longing and acceptance of
destiny. Whenever the fellowship is about to leave the elvish land Lothlorien,
Galadriel sings of her desire to cross the sea to return to the land of the Valar. Her
song, both a lament for her land of Lorien and a love song for the land across the
sea, echoes a distinctive conflict among elves between staying in the land of Middle
Earthwhere they have built lives, fallen in love, and fought for good, and going on
the last journey of their lives to their homeland across the sea (Tolkien,... Show more

However, Tolkien also attempts to show that everyone and everything has its time,
and once one feels that he or she has completed his or her fate within this world, he
or she can prepare themselves to move on. Whenever Galadriel sends messages to
the Fellowship once the Fellowship reach the land of Rohan, Galadriel warns
Legolas, a fellow elf, to Beware of the Sea!/If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the
shore,/Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more (Tolkien, Two Towers 112).
Legolas later acknowledges that his longing to cross the sea developed when he
sings of the beauty of the coast and the sea, and laments that the sea began to call
to him as Galadriel predicted (Tolkien, Return 156). The singing of the poem about
the beauty of the sea indirectly draws the reader s attention to Legolas desires and
his racial destiny to cross the sea, exemplifying the racial theme of longing. Motifs
are also prevalent as symbols for elven racial

Key Issues And Challenges Of Students Experience
Identify the key issues and challenges that students experience when they transition to
university that are presented in academic literature
Student transition to university introduces a lot new experiences and challenges for
example, they struggle to get used to doing independent learning as they come from
a system where teachers explain everything step by step. In a research study,
Bingham and O Hara (2007) found that students struggle to become autonomous
learners, and argued that therefore they should not be spoon fed (cited in Leese,
2010, p 241).
Predicting students expectation is another issue students go through when they
transition to higher education. In a questionnaire, students stated that they had mixed
feelings about coming to university, and this was because they expected it to be
different to what they had experienced so far in education (Leese, 2010, 244). Wintre
and Yaffe (2000) have stated that real students experience in higher education is much
tougher and demanding than what they expect it to be. Students also specified that it
was hard to comprehend academic personnel choice of words used when
communicating. There may be mismatch between the students pre transfer
aspirations and the reality of their п¬Ѓrst year at university (Tranter, 2003; Smith and
Hopkins, 2005), which causes difficulty in adapting to higher education (cited in
Briggs et al., 2012, p.5).
Adapting to university life is another challenge student s face as they have to
How Culture Helps Drive Business Results Within Facebook
With the exponential changes in technology and continued evolutions to business,
businesses exist today that we had no idea would be possible just a short time ago.
The relatively new companies are found in the industry of Internet Information
Providers and Social Media. These businesses are challenged on how they could
possibly drive revenue and if growth was sustainable. Facebook and Twitter combine
for a current market cap of 320 billion dollars. Proving thus far, that the industry has
been successful. To get a better understanding and help compare the two companies, I
will look at how culture helps drive business results within Facebook and Twitter.
Then I will go on to discuss the operating performances of the two companies....

The act to bring employees over to a new location for the sole purpose of setting up
the culture shows how much emphasis Facebook puts on culture. Another practice
that Facebook uses to help define culture is to let employees have a say in the
culture. They do this for example, by letting the employees paint the office walls
at new locations and help give specific names to the conference rooms. These
practices allow the employees to literally create the culture and build a sense of
ownership (Facebook Innovated Company Culture). A final major point of
emphasis to the Facebook culture is that there is no hierarchy within the
organization. This helps to promote the sharing of ideas from all individuals. The
overall summary of the Facebook culture shows that it is a fun fast paced
organization developed to draw the most out of creative young minds. Twitters
culture has many of the same points of Facebook in regards to a fun fast paced
atmosphere devoted to the younger generation of work force. However, twitter does
have a few differences as well. Twitter was voted the number one culture and work
place environment by its employees in a 2014 poll by glassdoor.com (Twitter Tops
all In Culture). Some of the reasons that this might be true are that employees receive
benefits such as unlimited vacations, yoga while at work and free meals (twitter Tops
all in culture). Many of these amenities that other Fortune 500 companies would

Questions On Increasing Disciplinary Reading
1.Increasing Disciplinary Reading Biancarosa (2012) states in the introduction to
this section that as students progress up through the grades their reading in content
area courses becomes progressively more distinct (p. 47). A student in a fourth grade
science course will encounter different terminology in a fourth grade social studies
course and even more diverse terminology by the time they reach high school
biology. However, I have often found, and Biancarosa (2012) as acknowledges that
many schools do not focus on readinginstruction across content areas. Biancarosa
elaborates, too often, schools do not explicitly teach students how the reasoning
processes, strategies, and rules for achieving comprehension vary across the content
areas (p. 47). In order to develop adolescents literacy skills we need to increase their
interaction with diverse disciplinary texts. Looking at this from the higher education
lens, once a student moves from the college prep classroom to the collegiate
environment they will be required to demonstrate comprehension and research skills
in their specialized field of study. The best measure that teachers in the K 12 arena
can do to assist them for this transition is to increase their interaction with these texts
during the duration of their elementary and secondary school years.
2.Help Students Achieve Proficiency in Digital Reading This was rather a common
sense recommendation given how much technology and digital reading students are
Rhetorical Analysis Of The Devil In The White City By
Erik...
Book are magnificent things. Fiction books are created with such details, they only
hold small or no real life facts or events. In contrast, nonfiction books do the
complete opposite. Nonfiction books contain facts or events from the past that
occurred, they are also incorporated with details to make the story more interesting,
to give it more imagery, feel, and a better tone. When an author does so, they
manage to make the book have a timeless quality, which is incredibly important to a
nonfiction book. An author is capable of getting this quality in their books by
incorporating the facts or events, alongside rhetorical strategies to give life and
meaning to their book. Not every author can manage to do this, although, the author
by the name of Erik Larson did so, in his book, The Devil in the White City: Murder,

Larson uses imagery to describe how the fair looked, and to describe parts or areas
that were not as pretty. Imagery is descriptive language to give an idea what
something looks like. For example, in the story, when describing the sky, he says,
The shared color, or more accurately the shared absence of color, produced an
especially alluring range of effects as the sun traveled the sky. This imagery gives a
beautiful and alluring effect on the audience. This allows the audience to picture the
beautiful sky, that looked the same, the sky that was above the tall and mesmerizing
skyscrapers that stood proudly. In this quote, there is also a little bit of
personification. Personification is giving a human feature or trait to an inanimate
object. In this sentence, he mentions the sun that is traveling the sky. The sun does
not travel, thus giving it a human trait. Both personification and imagery help give
the audience a better picture of what is occurring in the story, allowing the audience
to imagine what is happening, which would let the image stay in someone s mind
longer and to be

An SRAM cell usually consists of six transistors and every cell is used to store one
bit. Therefore, this memory is not dense and consumes a large area of the CPU
real estate. There is no nonvolatile replacement, at least nowadays, that can match
the switching speeds of the SRAM. The closest rivals switching speeds are at
orders of magnitude slower [12], [13]. The second element in the memory
hierarchy is the Dynamic RAM (DRAM), each DRAM cell consists of a single
transistor and a capacitor (1T 1C) and only stores one bit. Hence, compared to
SRAM it is much denser [14]. The access time of DRAM is in the order of ~10ns.
DRAM requires consistent refreshing due to charge leakage and destructive read
(i.e. the information is lost upon the cell reading. The embedded version of
DRAM (EDRAM) is used as a last level cache (Figure 1 1)[1]. Magnetic storage
Hard Drive (HDD) is the densest and the slowest storage element in the memory
hierarchy as it provides terabytes (Tb) of memory at very low cost at the expense
of very long access latencies with regarding to a random access operation [1].
NAND flash is the solid state counterpart of the magnetic HDD with three order of

Gun Culture And The American Identity
Gun culture is engrained in the American identity; there are about 300 million guns
present in the United States, which is about one gun for every citizen (Birnbaum,
2013). While guns have a strong presence here, there have been an increasing
number of violent tragedies in which the assailant used firearms. On April 16, 2007,
Seung Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus (Lipka 2008;
No Guns Left Behind, 2007). The question quickly became how do we stop guns
from coming on to post secondary campuses? to prevent such tragedies. The gun
debate has been around for decades, but only after the Virginia Tech Massacrehas the
focus increased (Lipka, 2008). Colleges and universities quickly placed their focus
on the topic of gun control. There is a great deal of confusion among institutions are
to what their rights are in developing and implementing firearms policies on campus

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states, A well regulated

stated that determines how individual states should handle gun control in higher

The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies
The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies Overview and History The
Walt Disney Company is a major media and entertainment enterprise that is based in
Burbank, California and operates in more than forty countries with a worldwide
appeal. After going bankrupt with his first cartoon company Laugh O Gram in 1922
Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California to start over (Campbell, Martin, Fabos

and they signed a contract with M.J. Winkler to produce a series of animated
comedies which became known as the Alice Comedies (Walt Disney). In 1928 they
debuted Steamboat Willie, an animated film with synchronized sound that features
the character Mickey Mouse who would go on to become the world known icon for
the Walt Disney Corporation (Walt Disney). The following year the brothers replaced
their partnership with the creation of four companies: Walt Disney Production, Ltd.;
Walt Disney Enterprises; Liled Realty and Investment Company; and the Disney Film
Recording Company (Walt Disney). From a struggling cartoon studio the company
grew and expanded to include motion pictures, documentaries, and television
programs. The continued successes enabled Walt Disney Productions to make an

Life Is All About Taking Risks
Life is all about taking risks. However, there is a fine line between risk taking and
playing it safe. When a certain activity becomes dangerous to the health of a body, it
is time to step back and evaluate. The human skull can protect your brain to a certain
extent, but concussions occur when there is significant impact to the head without
protection to shield it from the blow. Concussions are a dangerous risk factor that
affect most teenagers involved with sports that call for physical contact, especially
football, but with cautious thinking and protection, it should be enough to prevent
them. A considerable amount of factors play into the cause of a concussions. The
human skull can protect your brain to a certain extent, but concussions occur when
there is significant impact to the head without protection to shield it from the blow.
The brain slides along the walls of inner walls of the skull, and bleeding may occur
if the impact is violent enough. The thickness of the skull, more cerebrospinal fluid,
presence of Arnold Chiari malformation, and the characteristics of the cervical spine
such as limited strength, range of motion, and flexibility may add to injury. Those
involved in a sport without certain protection are at more of a risk, especially young
people. Every concussionis different, so it is hard to predict how long someone s
recovery will be or what damage may be done. When an athlete gets injured in the
head, he or she should report it immediately rather
Difference Between Seizures And Epilepsy
Blog: What is the difference between seizures and epilepsy?
By Dr. Sanjeev (Neurology)
What is a seizure?
To understand what a seizure is, you must first understand how the brain works. Your
brain is comprised of thousands of neurons cells that process and transmit information
by interacting with each other. These interactions can be observed and assessed
through an electroencephalogram. Seizures, abnormal movements or behavior due to
unusual electrical activity in the brain, are a symptom of epilepsy. But not all people
who appear to have seizures have epilepsy
In most brains, neuron interactions occur in a chaotic but balanced, orderly fashion
with few disruptions. Occasionally, small disruptions (neuron misfires) may occur
with little

In most cases, they are created on location, but the decision is influenced by the size
and nature of the project, taking into account the restrictions of the site.
3.1Casting Process Prior to the panels being cast to size, a concrete slab is poured to
use as a base for the tilt up panels to be cast onto.
An engineer is then required to set out boundaries and help in the set up of
formwork, which is then erected in the shape of the panels. This includes making
space for openings such as doors and windows within the design. Formwork is
positioned for all panels, in a jigsaw like formation on the slab, as to allow for steady
project flow. Formwork is to be created to such a height as to allow for multiple
castings to be made on top of each other.
The slab is then coated within formwork with a bond breaker as to allow for the most
comfort when tilting up the panels.
As in regular concrete construction, reinforcing is positioned where necessary.
Once everything is positioned as required, concrete is then ready to be poured. When
the concrete has been poured, manual labour is required to trowel for a smooth finish,
either by hand or machine trowel. This can leave a smooth finish, or textured, but

Poehler Antique Mall In Empori Unpacking The Object
1.Unpacking the Object
What is this object? An antique wooden chair
What does the object look like? Antique, old, worn wood. There are curvy edges
on the backrest portion. The wood is very worn on the seat part, and there is a lot
of dust on the chair. The right side of the chair is broken in a jagged break.
Where did you obtain this object? I found this at the Poehler Antique Mall in
Emporia, KS. The antique mall is located on Commercial Street.
Where can you find similar objects? At this antique store, there were tons of old chairs
. You could find more there. I would assume that a lot of antique stores have old
pieces of furniture like this chair. There are probably a lot of these types of chairs in
older style homes. They could be found in table and chair sets, or they could be
possibly found in a church.
What is it made of? Wood and screws.
Who made it? Back in history the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this object because I like upcycling. Taking old antique items and turning
them into something more modern and useful. I think restoring an object and making
it personal to yourself.
Who or what does this object represent? I think this object represents middle class
people. Often the middle class is overlooked and are considered average. This chair
is overlooked too because it is a piece of furniture that almost everyone has, and we
don t often think about how the chair got there or how the chair was made. I think
this is similar with a lot of people in the world. Many people go unnoticed. I hope
that by adding color to this old chair, will be like the colorful personalities many
people have, which makes them stand out above others.
What does this object mean to you? I became invested in this chair, I spent a lot of
time and money on this project. I hope the chair will add a new style to my room. It
means something special to me because I took something old and gave it a new look,
but the object still does the same

Martin Luther King Leadership Speech
Martin Luther King Jr. Essay The father of the Civil Rights Movement in America
is unquestionably Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. How effective were Dr. King s
strategies in the Civil Rights Movement? In the Sanitation Strike of 1968, Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. gave the speech I ve Been to the Mountain Top. In that
speech, he outlined for us the strategies that he recommends for the fight for Civil
Rights. Most people believe his strategies were effective so do I. However, there
are some people that think his strategies were not the reason for success in the
Civil Rights Movement. This essay will show you how Dr. King s strategies were
very effective in the Civil Rights Movement. To begin with, the strategy that Dr.
King introduces first in his speech I ve Been to the Mountain Top is unity. To me
unity means to do something as one or to do something together. I know this
because in the text it states We ve got to stay together and maintain unity . This
quote proves that Dr. King wants the sanitation workers to protest peacefully and
work together to get their point across. Unity would be the best way to get this done
because if they don t work together Dr. King s strategy will fail. Power in numbers
gross income is bigger this means that the more people the more power and therefore
more money. Dr. King brought the ministers, the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Southern Christian Leadership Service
(SCLC), The American Federation of State,

  • 2. Immersion Stage Of Racial Identity Development We got into an interesting discussion about the Tatum article. What are your thoughts on the stages and where do you see yourself in these charts? Think critically and not only in the Black/White binary. I think that the stages of racial identity development are incredibly interesting because openly acknowledging them has the potential to make people extremely uncomfortable. Yet, I also experience mixed feelings towards them because they fail to account for identities that fall outside of the racial binary. For example, as a biracial woman, it is nearly impossible to entirely limit myself to one of these charts. Last year, as a freshman taking courses such as African American Studies and Race Literary Texts, my naГЇve bubble was popped and I was thrown into a world wherein social constructions and racialization were inescapable realities. As a result, I began to limit myself to the types of shows I watched, the music I listened to, the viewpoints I held, and the parties I attended all of which exclusively involved people of color. In hindsight, I now recognize this time as my experience in the Immersion stage of Black identity development (Tatum, 1992, p. 11). Yet, the privilege I experience as a result of being half white also allowed for my ignorance of these oppressive realities, so it can be argued that I was additionally experiencing Helms Pseudo Independent stage (Tatum, 1992, p. 16). At this point in time, I would like to see myself at the
  • 3. Psychological Aspects Of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy In this paper I look at psychological aspects within the study of willpower which can be used to improve and strengthen existing cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. I m specifically interested in applying empirically supported self control concepts which will serve to fortify the willpower of patients and make the therapy more effective overall. First I will cover the basic foundations of cognitive behavioral therapy, then I will give several examples of relevant willpower constructs, establish their basis in psychological research, and highlight their potential applications to CBT. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a class of psychotherapy which involves self monitoring of how we individually think and how our thoughts ultimately affect our feelings and behavior. This monitoring is used to illuminate certain maladaptive, irrational, and biased beliefs in order to lessen their negative, possibly recursive effect on behavior stemming from emotions like anger, anxiety and depression. During therapy, counselors work with clients to give insight on their patterns of thinking, identify flawed connections, and address them using examples of empirical evidence and logic. Research has shown that people who are past focused have higher satisfaction but lower motivation about their goals, while people who are future focused have lower satisfaction but higher motivation toward their goals. In a study by Dr. Ayelet Fishbach, a Korean agency was divided and asked to reflect
  • 4. Disruption Of The Body s Circadian Clock The circadian clock in humans has influence over many processes in the body. The most prevalent of those arguably is its determination of our sleep and wake cycles (Joseph et al. 2008). Sufficient sleep is an essential part of human health and a lack of sleep can have severe repercussions on the human body and mind (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). Disruption of the body s circadian cycle, by genetic means, can cause: ineffective homeostasis of the sleep cycle, imbalances in the amounts of time spent awake and asleep, and the timing of sleep s onset, all of which can contribute to dangerous sleep related disorders (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). (Joseph et al. 2008) states that he circadian clock is composed of a 24 hour cycle called a primary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The disorders discussed, FASPS, FFI, and narcolepsy, are examples of how single gene mutations can completely off put the body s circadian rhythms (Borbley et al.1999; Joseph et al. 2008). Additionally, these disorders support the main concept that the master of homeostatic balance in our body s sleep cycle is the clock gene, and that even the smallest of changes on the molecular level can result in significant changes in physiological out put (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). Complete human health is reliant on sleep, and sleep is reliant on the clock
  • 5. Nextcard, Inc. Assignment 1 Nextcard, Inc. ACC: Advanced Auditing Outside auditors play a crucial role in our nation s financial system. As the watchdogs of corporate accounting, they are supposed to protect investors (Hilzenrath, 2010). The question is how effective are these outside auditors in protecting investors? When you think about the failures that have occurred: Enron, WorldCom, Adelphia, Tyco, and Global crossing to name a few, one would really question the effectiveness of these outside auditors. As a result of these failures, Congress pass the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. This act in turn created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to police the outside auditors and ensures they are protecting the investors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were multiple risk factors present in the Nextcard Inc. case. Thomas Trauger, auditor, had authorized an unqualified opinion on Nextcard s 2000 financial statements although the evidence did not justify an unqualified opinion. Nextcard had huge operating losses and had been reporting much smaller allowances for bad debts than they had been observing. Their management regularly made material understatements of the company s allowance for credit losses. Also most of the financial decisions rested solely in the hands of Jeremy Lent, Chief Financial Officer. Another risk factor was the fact that the executives had large amounts of stock and immediately sold them after the lock down from the initial public offering was made. Events from 2000 that were notable include the following: * During 2000, more than $1 billion of credit was issued to customers but it did not translate to immediate profits and this fact was downplayed to the media and ignored in public disclosures. * In February 2000 Nextcard announced they continued to beat aggressive growth targets and boasted an average of $2000 per account. They omitted the fact that in 1999 they had a loss of $77.2 million. * Insider trading Lent and other colleagues sold large amounts of stock after the lock up period had passed. They took the company public knowing about the large losses. Ernst amp; Young s motivation to
  • 6. Genie Play Monologue In my younger years I was highly involved in show choir and school productions. Any way I could get on stage and strut my stuff I would take it. My sixth grade year of elementary school, the year before I would make the massive leap into middle school, I decided I would perform in my final production. The play was Aladdin and I had my eye on the role for the Genie and I wanted this role so much. I practiced this role day and night from singing to dancing to even some impressions anything that would ensure my little mind that I would get the part. A week and half goes by and it s time for tryouts and I was beyond nervous. Anytime someone even mention the tryouts my body would tremble and quake. I didn t know why I was so nervous I mean I had
  • 7. Assisi s Franciscan Values Quincy University is based on set of Franciscan values that define the school and its teachings. These values here at QU were based on St. Francis of Assisi himself. St. Francis of Assisi looked at the world in a different light than many people of his time did. Even though Assisi s values are apart of Quincy Universitymany students still do not fully understand his teachings, his writings, his ways of life, and the order he created. St. Francis was a very interesting man, which led a very interesting lifestyle that many people were not fond of. Everyone has their own opinions about St. Francis of Assisi, some believe that he was crazy and others believe he might have been a scholar. Francis of Assisi was able to create an order for his followers, he was also able to come up with a set of Franciscan values. These values are important to the way that he believed led the best life. Five of the most important Franciscan values to me are service, peace and reconciliation, creation, transformation, and inclusion. Service is not only giving, but it is also about receiving. When volunteering your service you are helping other, and you are learning more about yourself at the same time. St Francis of Assisi lived in poverty so he could love and care for everyone. St. Francis was always helping out people out of the kindness of his heart; he never expected any service or money in return. Peace and reconciliation is also another important value that Francis believed in. Peace and reconciliation means that if I hurt someone I should ask for forgiveness, but if someone hurts me I should be able to forgive them. St Francis of Assisi lived by these words knowing that he wanted to live in peace with all and to be reconciled to all. Next, Francis believed in and loved all things created. Francis believed that creation is a reflection of God s goodness and beauty, which led him to believe all humans are members of the same family. Understanding creation allows for us to understand each other and all of creation better. The value of transformation is the way of growing, creating or destroying. Transformation allows us to encounter new thoughts, people, a

I Get Into So Much Trouble Just By Walking Qualitative Researchers In Introduction Fatimah Almahdi Amy Petersen Michael s Story: I get into so much trouble just by walking : Narrative Knowing and Life at the Intersections of Learning Disability, Race, and Class Introduction The purpose of the article s introduction is to highlight the challenges that students from minority go through in special education schools. Linking his personal experiences as a former special educator, Connor strives to explore the intersection of learning disability, race, and class. The author collected data by conducting interviews with a participant researcher to get his side of the story. Connor planned to compare his LDs experiences with his own. Valuing Narrative Connor opted to use a narrative as a means of expression since most people understand issues better when they are conveyed as a narrated story. Michael, the participant researcher, narrates the discrimination he went through during his time in school. Being a student with a learning disability, he was segregated from the other normal students, and they always taunted him because of his condition. The fact that he is black, physically challenged and comes from a working class background makes him feel less entitled to receiving a decent college education (Connor, 2006). His situation that even in the education sector, the playing field is not fair as far as minority groups are concerned. Choosing poetry Connor elects to present his findings in the form

Theme Of Guilt In The Reader The Perpetual Guilt of the Holocaust Displayed by Hanna Schmitz and Michael Berg in The Reader by Bernhard Schlink The theme of guilt is portrayed by both Michael Berg and Hanna Schmitz in The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. Hanna has a lot of guilt for her role in the Holocaust. She also has guilt for what she does to Michael and because she is illiterate. Michael s guilt stems from what he knows about Hanna s past and also what Hanna blames him for and pushes onto him during their relationship. The Holocaust created a web of guilt for those living in Germany. Many Germans who participated in the war felt a lot of regret and sorrow for what they had done, but it didn t end there. Hanna takes the blame for other crimes to hide her illiteracy and Michael later says he wishes he had spoken out about it to the judge to help her, but he didn t. When Hannah is in prison she commits suicide after educating herself about the legitimate horrors of the war. Her suicide acknowledges her understanding of what she had done. After Hanna commits suicide Michael asks In the first few years after Hanna s death, I was tormented by the old questions of whether I denied and betrayed her, whether I owed her something, whether I was guilty for having loved her. Sometimes I asked myself if I was responsible for her death. CITE Even after he no longer had to deal with the guilt he felt because of his past romances with Hanna, after he knew everything she did in the war, after she confessed completely and was sent to prison Michael thought he could be the reason she had ended her life. Michael is the type of person to let people take advantage of his emotions and his kind personality, usually leaving him feeling guilty and sad. This develops the allegory of Michael as a symbol of the younger generation of children in Germany after the war. They faced a lot of guilt trying to cope with what the generation before them had done, they needed to move past it and still love their older relatives but it was often hard, as it was hard for Michael to handle knowing Hanna s true

Both works, albeit more so the Iliad than the Odyssey, serve as the chief source of information about a pivotal event in Greek history: the Trojan War. Whether this war happened exactly as it has been narrated is subject to debate, as any answer holds very little evidence to be supported. However, the Greeks saw the Trojan War as the first time there was unity within their culture as they all fought for a common goal. As such, many regarded the Trojan war as an important event in defining the central values and virtues of Greek culture; they would revisit these epics time and time

  • 15. Courage Definition Of Courage The definition of courage is the quality of spirit that allows a person to face difficulty without fear or doubt. This quality is what drives those who have a purpose to survive. In the short story The Sniper; By Liam O Flaherty and, in the excerpt of The Trouble with Geniuses, Part II, By Malcolm Gladwell courage is displayed as an act of commitment. In the book Outliers, Chris Langan had a knack for mathematics and philosophy. Many people described him as being gifted. His younger brother Mark Langan often compared him to Robert Oppenheimer, a physicist famously known for the development of the nuclear bomb in World War II. Chris however, did not have the determination to become a famous physicist. He was kicked out of college more than once for unnecessary reasons and eventually gave up on his education. The sniper however, was a soldier and did not feardeath. He used his wits to fool the other sniper and managed to buy time for his escape except it did not pay off in the end as his brother was his enemy. So, in both stories courage is brought up as a description and almost like a goal for both characters. This trait is a prime example of a quality required to overcome adversity in life. Adversity in one s life can affect many aspects of their personality, with these obstacles this person could use courage as a path to conquer their own goals. In the Sniper the main character had been in a lethal situation as he was under fire in a city in Dublin. But the

It is essential when designing a hairstyle to take into account the client s body shape and size. Challenges in body proportion become more obvious if the hair form is too small or too large. A general guide for classic proportion is that the hairshould not be wider than the center of the shoulders, regardless of the body structure. Many have one eye that is slightly smaller or one flare of the nose that is slightly larger. And so, adaptability becomes the first design consideration. During your client consultation, take the time to make notations of the asymmetry to the face. If we design the hair towards the low side of the face, we will accentuate it. If we duplicate the head form with either fullness or the lack thereof, we emphasize it. Feel the bones of the head and take note of the growth patterns in the outer and inner perimeters. Remember that the outer perimeter creates the strongest influence to the features. Be very careful about the hair that touches the face. Will it point to an unflattering feature, such as a pointed nose? If there is a protrusion of the frontal bone, the fringe area will lift and dry shorter than anticipated. We have found that working with two mirrors is of tremendous benefit: one for the frontal view and one for the profile. Watch that you do not accentuate a poor profile with an extension in that area. The mirrors will tell you things that the eye cannot see directly. Legolas later acknowledges that his longing to cross the sea developed when he sings of the beauty of the coast and the sea, and laments that the sea began to call to him as Galadriel predicted (Tolkien, Return 156). The singing of the poem about the beauty of the sea indirectly draws the reader s attention to Legolas desires and his racial destiny to cross the sea, exemplifying the racial theme of longing. Motifs are also prevalent as symbols for elven racial

  • 32. Key Issues And Challenges Of Students Experience Identify the key issues and challenges that students experience when they transition to university that are presented in academic literature Student transition to university introduces a lot new experiences and challenges for example, they struggle to get used to doing independent learning as they come from a system where teachers explain everything step by step. In a research study, Bingham and O Hara (2007) found that students struggle to become autonomous learners, and argued that therefore they should not be spoon fed (cited in Leese, 2010, p 241). Predicting students expectation is another issue students go through when they transition to higher education. In a questionnaire, students stated that they had mixed feelings about coming to university, and this was because they expected it to be different to what they had experienced so far in education (Leese, 2010, 244). Wintre and Yaffe (2000) have stated that real students experience in higher education is much tougher and demanding than what they expect it to be. Students also specified that it was hard to comprehend academic personnel choice of words used when communicating. There may be mismatch between the students pre transfer aspirations and the reality of their п¬Ѓrst year at university (Tranter, 2003; Smith and Hopkins, 2005), which causes difп¬Ѓculty in adapting to higher education (cited in Briggs et al., 2012, p.5). Adapting to university life is another challenge student s face as they have to

How Culture Helps Drive Business Results Within Facebook With the exponential changes in technology and continued evolutions to business, businesses exist today that we had no idea would be possible just a short time ago. The relatively new companies are found in the industry of Internet Information Providers and Social Media. These businesses are challenged on how they could possibly drive revenue and if growth was sustainable. Facebook and Twitter combine for a current market cap of 320 billion dollars. Proving thus far, that the industry has been successful. To get a better understanding and help compare the two companies, I will look at how culture helps drive business results within Facebook and Twitter. Then I will go on to discuss the operating performances of the two companies.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The act to bring employees over to a new location for the sole purpose of setting up the culture shows how much emphasis Facebook puts on culture. Another practice that Facebook uses to help define culture is to let employees have a say in the culture. They do this for example, by letting the employees paint the office walls at new locations and help give specific names to the conference rooms. These practices allow the employees to literally create the culture and build a sense of ownership (Facebook Innovated Company Culture). A final major point of emphasis to the Facebook culture is that there is no hierarchy within the organization. This helps to promote the sharing of ideas from all individuals. The overall summary of the Facebook culture shows that it is a fun fast paced organization developed to draw the most out of creative young minds. Twitters culture has many of the same points of Facebook in regards to a fun fast paced atmosphere devoted to the younger generation of work force. However, twitter does have a few differences as well. Twitter was voted the number one culture and work place environment by its employees in a 2014 poll by glassdoor.com (Twitter Tops all In Culture). Some of the reasons that this might be true are that employees receive benefits such as unlimited vacations, yoga while at work and free meals (twitter Tops all in culture). Many of these amenities that other Fortune 500 companies would deem cost
  • 34. Questions On Increasing Disciplinary Reading 1.Increasing Disciplinary Reading Biancarosa (2012) states in the introduction to this section that as students progress up through the grades their reading in content area courses becomes progressively more distinct (p. 47). A student in a fourth grade science course will encounter different terminology in a fourth grade social studies course and even more diverse terminology by the time they reach high school biology. However, I have often found, and Biancarosa (2012) as acknowledges that many schools do not focus on readinginstruction across content areas. Biancarosa elaborates, too often, schools do not explicitly teach students how the reasoning processes, strategies, and rules for achieving comprehension vary across the content areas (p. 47). In order to develop adolescents literacy skills we need to increase their interaction with diverse disciplinary texts. Looking at this from the higher education lens, once a student moves from the college prep classroom to the collegiate environment they will be required to demonstrate comprehension and research skills in their specialized field of study. The best measure that teachers in the K 12 arena can do to assist them for this transition is to increase their interaction with these texts during the duration of their elementary and secondary school years. 2.Help Students Achieve Proficiency in Digital Reading This was rather a common sense recommendation given how much technology and digital reading students are
  • 35. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Devil In The White City By Erik... Book are magnificent things. Fiction books are created with such details, they only hold small or no real life facts or events. In contrast, nonfiction books do the complete opposite. Nonfiction books contain facts or events from the past that occurred, they are also incorporated with details to make the story more interesting, to give it more imagery, feel, and a better tone. When an author does so, they manage to make the book have a timeless quality, which is incredibly important to a nonfiction book. An author is capable of getting this quality in their books by incorporating the facts or events, alongside rhetorical strategies to give life and meaning to their book. Not every author can manage to do this, although, the author by the name of Erik Larson did so, in his book, The Devil in the White City: Murder, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Larson uses imagery to describe how the fair looked, and to describe parts or areas that were not as pretty. Imagery is descriptive language to give an idea what something looks like. For example, in the story, when describing the sky, he says, The shared color, or more accurately the shared absence of color, produced an especially alluring range of effects as the sun traveled the sky. This imagery gives a beautiful and alluring effect on the audience. This allows the audience to picture the beautiful sky, that looked the same, the sky that was above the tall and mesmerizing skyscrapers that stood proudly. In this quote, there is also a little bit of personification. Personification is giving a human feature or trait to an inanimate object. In this sentence, he mentions the sun that is traveling the sky. The sun does not travel, thus giving it a human trait. Both personification and imagery help give the audience a better picture of what is occurring in the story, allowing the audience to imagine what is happening, which would let the image stay in someone s mind longer and to be

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An SRAM cell usually consists of six transistors and every cell is used to store one bit. Therefore, this memory is not dense and consumes a large area of the CPU real estate. There is no nonvolatile replacement, at least nowadays, that can match the switching speeds of the SRAM. The closest rivals switching speeds are at orders of magnitude slower [12], [13]. The second element in the memory hierarchy is the Dynamic RAM (DRAM), each DRAM cell consists of a single transistor and a capacitor (1T 1C) and only stores one bit. Hence, compared to SRAM it is much denser [14]. The access time of DRAM is in the order of ~10ns. DRAM requires consistent refreshing due to charge leakage and destructive read (i.e. the information is lost upon the cell reading. The embedded version of DRAM (EDRAM) is used as a last level cache (Figure 1 1)[1]. Magnetic storage Hard Drive (HDD) is the densest and the slowest storage element in the memory hierarchy as it provides terabytes (Tb) of memory at very low cost at the expense of very long access latencies with regarding to a random access operation [1]. NAND flash is the solid state counterpart of the magnetic HDD with three order of magnitude higher access speeds. It is the highest density memory [15], and is commonly used in high speed disk systems [16]. Integrating the main memory onto the CPU can drastically improve the computation speed by eliminating the I/O bottleneck to off chip

Gun Culture And The American Identity Gun culture is engrained in the American identity; there are about 300 million guns present in the United States, which is about one gun for every citizen (Birnbaum, 2013). While guns have a strong presence here, there have been an increasing number of violent tragedies in which the assailant used firearms. On April 16, 2007, Seung Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus (Lipka 2008; No Guns Left Behind, 2007). The question quickly became how do we stop guns from coming on to post secondary campuses? to prevent such tragedies. The gun debate has been around for decades, but only after the Virginia Tech Massacrehas the focus increased (Lipka, 2008). Colleges and universities quickly placed their focus on the topic of gun control. There is a great deal of confusion among institutions are to what their rights are in developing and implementing firearms policies on campus (Alger, 2008). The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed (Amendment II, 1787), there is not explicitly stated that determines how individual states should handle gun control in higher education. The federal government has left it up to the states to decide and it varies across the country (Alger, 2008). The major of states have developed legislation in response to the recent gun tragedies that focuses on creating a safer

The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies Overview and History The Walt Disney Company is a major media and entertainment enterprise that is based in Burbank, California and operates in more than forty countries with a worldwide appeal. After going bankrupt with his first cartoon company Laugh O Gram in 1922 Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California to start over (Campbell, Martin, Fabos 456). Walt and his brother Roy created the Disney Brothers Cartoon studio in 1923 and they signed a contract with M.J. In 1928 they debuted Steamboat Willie, an animated film with synchronized sound that features the character Mickey Mouse who would go on to become the world known icon for the Walt Disney Corporation (Walt Disney). The following year the brothers replaced their partnership with the creation of four companies: Walt Disney Production, Ltd.; Walt Disney Enterprises; Liled Realty and Investment Company; and the Disney Film Recording Company (Walt Disney). From a struggling cartoon studio the company grew and expanded to include motion pictures, documentaries, and television programs. The continued successes enabled Walt Disney Productions to make an initial public stock offering in 1940 (Walt Disney). When a certain activity becomes dangerous to the health of a body, it is time to step back and evaluate. The human skull can protect your brain to a certain extent, but concussions occur when there is significant impact to the head without protection to shield it from the blow. Concussions are a dangerous risk factor that affect most teenagers involved with sports that call for physical contact, especially football, but with cautious thinking and protection, it should be enough to prevent them. A considerable amount of factors play into the cause of a concussions. The human skull can protect your brain to a certain extent, but concussions occur when there is significant impact to the head without protection to shield it from the blow. The brain slides along the walls of inner walls of the skull, and bleeding may occur if the impact is violent enough. The thickness of the skull, more cerebrospinal fluid, presence of Arnold Chiari malformation, and the characteristics of the cervical spine such as limited strength, range of motion, and flexibility may add to injury. Those involved in a sport without certain protection are at more of a risk, especially young people. • 42. Difference Between Seizures And Epilepsy Blog: What is the difference between seizures and epilepsy? By Dr. Sanjeev (Neurology) What is a seizure? To understand what a seizure is, you must first understand how the brain works. Your brain is comprised of thousands of neurons cells that process and transmit information by interacting with each other. These interactions can be observed and assessed through an electroencephalogram. Seizures, abnormal movements or behavior due to unusual electrical activity in the brain, are a symptom of epilepsy. But not all people who appear to have seizures have epilepsy In most brains, neuron interactions occur in a chaotic but balanced, orderly fashion with few disruptions. Occasionally, small disruptions (neuron misfires) may occur with little

An engineer is then required to set out boundaries and help in the set up of formwork, which is then erected in the shape of the panels. This includes making space for openings such as doors and windows within the design. Formwork is positioned for all panels, in a jigsaw like formation on the slab, as to allow for steady project flow. Formwork is to be created to such a height as to allow for multiple castings to be made on top of each other. The slab is then coated within formwork with a bond breaker as to allow for the most comfort when tilting up the panels. As in regular concrete construction, reinforcing is positioned where necessary. Once everything is positioned as required, concrete is then ready to be poured. When the concrete has been poured, manual labour is required to trowel for a smooth finish, either by hand or machine trowel. This can leave a smooth finish, or textured, but must be compliant with designs for consistency. Martin Luther King Leadership Speech Martin Luther King Jr. Essay The father of the Civil Rights Movement in America is unquestionably Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. How effective were Dr. King s strategies in the Civil Rights Movement? In the Sanitation Strike of 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave the speech I ve Been to the Mountain Top. In that speech, he outlined for us the strategies that he recommends for the fight for Civil Rights. Most people believe his strategies were effective so do I. However, there are some people that think his strategies were not the reason for success in the Civil Rights Movement. This essay will show you how Dr. King s strategies were very effective in the Civil Rights Movement. To begin with, the strategy that Dr. King introduces first in his speech I ve Been to the Mountain Top is unity. To me unity means to do something as one or to do something together. I know this because in the text it states We ve got to stay together and maintain unity . This quote proves that Dr. King wants the sanitation workers to protest peacefully and work together to get their point across. Unity would be the best way to get this done because if they don t work together Dr. King s strategy will fail. Power in numbers gross income is bigger this means that the more people the more power and therefore more money. Dr. King brought the ministers, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Southern Christian Leadership Service (SCLC), The American Federation of State,
