hundred individuals who were accused of practicing witchcraft. Of those two hundred accused, nearly
twenty innocent souls were lost. This was one of the most severe cases of mass hysteria in recorded

deduced. Partly due to fear and also not being able to diagnose these fits, members of the community
suspected witchcraft to be the culprit. Little did the community know what was about to transpire in
their town over the next year.
The Salem Witch Trials officially began in February 1692 when the afflicted girls accused Tituba, Ms.
Good and Ms. Osborne of witchcraft. Tituba confessed to witchcraft. Not only did she confess, she
also said there were many others who were working for Satan. This triggered the beginning and that is
when the fears of the Salem colonists were realized.
These girls did not all show symptoms at one time. The first girl to start experiencing symptoms was
Betty Parris. She was followed by Abigail Williams, Ann Putnam Jr., Mary Walcott and Mercy Lewis
(History of Massachusetts). These girls were throwing tantrums, hiding under furniture and contorting
to pain. Since panic and fear set in, witchcraft was the easy choice to make. In today s medical

war, engage in foreign relations, or print and issue currency. Currently there are about 565 sovereign

I have been through a lot of events that have impacted my life dramatically. Something that happened
last August changed my outlook on a lot of things. August 10, 2016 was a life changing day. This day
started an event that made me appreciate life more, and taught me that even the smallest thing could
be a big difference in any outcome. August 10, 2016 was a life changing day. This day was when I
found out that my family needed to pack our cars with things such as; clothes, personal items, and
other accessories to move to a more safe area. Around nine O clock a.m. was when we got the news
that we needed to evacuate the area. We knew that this flood was gonna be nothing to joke about, so
we packed our things fairly quickly and made the decision to drive to a friends house. Later that day,
we showed up to their house with the idea that it was not going to flood the area. The next morning, I
woke up to my parents telling me that our house has just been flooded and had gotten around two feet
inside the house and I knew that we would not be back in our home for a very long time. Next,
everyone in the house was told that we needed to sandbag the house because the flood might reach the
inside and of course we would help, considering that they took us in. After all, their neighbors and
family members started grabbing bags and filling them with sand to stack in front of the house.

Language is a powerful tool that the average person uses on a day to day basis. There are many
dialects and accents within each language in the world. Sometimes people manipulate the way they
speak in order to achieve a goal. This paper will serve to illustrate a particular dialect that is being
manipulated in order to achieve a goal. I chose to analyze the speech of Larry the Cable Guy and will
attempt to explain the language bias he employs. Larry the Cable Guy is a famous stand up comedian,
actor, voice artist and country music artist. He is best known as a member of the Blue Collar Comedy
Tour where he performs stand up. His real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, although he usually is
referred to by his stage name. He was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska. His father was raised in a
farming and cattle ranching family from Northeast Kansas. As a result, Whitney s father became a pig
farmer which is what Whitney was raised around. Then, Whitney moved to Florida in high school
where he gravitated towards people similar to his family. This is when he first began to pick up on the
Southern American English dialect. He then attended Baptist University of America in Georgia where
he majored in drama and speech. He claims to have really picked up on the southern dialect during his
first year of college. He credits his roommate for influencing the way he began to speak as he was
from Dalton, Georgia and had a thick southern accent. Whitney calls himself a linguist chameleon as a
result of always speaking like those that are around him (Graham Bensinger 2017). His ability to
